Takata recall. The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v323000 (air bags); however, the dealer refused to repair the vehicle due to scheduling. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer did not order the parts until two months later when they were contacted again. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Passenger airbag sensor is faulty resulting in the car not realizing when a person is in the front passenger seat. This will not allow the front passenger airbag to go off when involved in a collision

June 2012 - replaced front control arm bushings which were worn after only ~80,000 miles, earlier than would be expected. Rear control arm bushings are also wearing and will need to be replaced.august 2013 - airbag warning light on dashboard came on and stayed on while driving with a passenger in the front seat. Brought the car to the shop who informed me it was a faulty map light assembly. Was also informed that this is common with subaru's which research online confirmed.

Our car was recalled due to a safety hazard with the passenger side airbag in 2016, so severe that the letter stated that death could occur should the airbag deploys.after an initial appointment, we were told we had to wait about a month for the replacement to be delivered.during this time, we were not able to have a passenger in the front seat.we had to arrange for other transportation on the day that our car was repaired as well as when it was originally inspected for the replacement part.after the work was done, we had to take the car back a third time because in the course of fixing the airbag, the dealership damaged our keyless remote (which they fixed). We lost valuable time from work.now, less than 3 years later, the same car is being recalled for the same issue:the passenger side airbag posses a safety hazard, this time due to the replacement airbag.we are taking it to a different dealer, but again, the soonest they can get it into the shop is march 11.again, we are left with a car that cannot transport a front seat passenger for over a month.this time, the dealership is offering a free loaner car on the day that our car will be in the shop, but we are still losing valuable time due to this.this is the third recall on this vehicle since we owned it.the first was a brake line recall.

Helloin march 2007 while driving back from boston,ma i was 14 miles from home when a car came around a corner in my lane i looked to my right and there was a telephone pole, so i had to go in to his lane i thought i had it made but we clipped back bumpers so i had slam on the brakes and when i did the car seemed to go faster and now with recall i wonder if my brakes weren't working. Also none (zero) of the 6 air bags deployed and i thought that was odd and the seatbelt gave me all my injuries broken ribs, thumb and a burst fracture of my l2 vertabrae.the last injury was crushed lt foot from the tire and alloy she'll came through the fire wall the other factor was the dealership were i bought my car was trying to find another car for my car because it had so many problemsi contacted soa talked many times to [xxx] and the most they would do was give me an extra $500.00 if i bought a new subaru.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, another vehicle crash into the passenger's side of the contact's vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and the passenger sustained injuries to the shoulder. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileage was 106,000.

Takata recallgot recall letter, emailed (no response) then called....told them we are on an island in se alaska-no road, only amhs ferry. The nearest subaru retailer is in juneau (we had a retailer which closed a few years ago), juneau is only reachable by plane or ferry. The cost for us to take the car there is over $1,000.00 just to get there and return--no food, no lodging in juneau. The ferry does not run every day, so overnighting is mandatory. You cannot put your car on the ferry without a driver. My husband is disabled and i am not able to work due to health issues, we aer on a fixed income, and cannot afford the fare to get the car to the juneau subaru retailer. To take the car south to washington state is over $2,750.00 just for the ferry round trip!!! subaru did state if we sent them the amhs invoice they would reimburse us $500.00! it is not our fault the subaru retailer isn't local anymore, nor is it our fault the airbags are being recalled, but why do we have to foot the bill to have it fixed.we had a place locally that would be willing to do the replacement-if subaru would reimburse them the cost of the airbag and labor, but subaru said no!! so we have a car we can't use for what we bought it for!!neither of us can ride in the back and buckle up due to space and our physical issues (we are in our 60's)...the recall only seems to be done if it is convenient for subaru!this was my 2nd subaru, it will be my last!we are at a loss of what to do next...

The passenger airbag status light is intermittent. In cold weather, it does not work, generating an airbag fault. The problem is poor solder in part #84621ag41a. Others have experienced the same problem. Http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/airbag-light-sometimes-console-problemi-149073p2.htmlit is unknown if the passenger airbag system is functional though the light is off.

The contact rented a 2006 subaru legacy.while driving 55 mph, the contact struck a moose.the air bags failed to deploy.there were no injuries.a police report was filed.the vin, purchase date, engine size, number of cylinders, and mileages were unknown.

I continuously receive error p2138 on my 2006 subaru legacy. This error is associated with throttle/pedal position sensor/switch. This appears to be a common error related to the sensor on the gas pedal or the throttle body for this make and model and other subaru models around the same time frame. This issue causes the vehicle to loose power/abilityof the gas pedal of the vehicle at unknown times. This has happened while driving on the highway at 60+mph, i am lucky no accidents have occurred so far. If i am unable to pull off to the shoulder, i have to stop the car in the middle of the highway or road and turn the car off and try and restart. See links attached as this appears to be a common issue for the past 5 years for other subaru users.http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/66-problems-maintenance/24906-code-p2138-throttle-position-sensor.htmlhttp://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1209810http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/p2138-and-warrantyi-61407.html?p=2370840http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/p2138-throttle-pedal-position-sensor-switch-150344.html?t=150344.

While driving engine light and cruise lights come on and vehicle will not accelerate. I almost got rearended because of it. It set a code #p2138. It is very dangerous and there should be a recall on it.

Rear window defroster ceased functioning. The problem was due to broken wire in a wiring harness that passes through a rubber accordion boot between the car body and the tail-gate (near the right-hand tailgate hinge). The left hand tail-gate boot was removed and a previously repaired wire was also found ( this is a previously owned car).research at an online forum for subaru owners showed that many other owners of 2005 and 2006 subarus have experienced similar failures due to broken wires in this wiring harness. I suspect that it is an under-reported problem. I believe that subaru should be asked to issue a safety recall notice.

I was driving with my son (9) during the evening of 12/16/14 on side roads looking at christmas lights. I was going 15-20 mph. Night was dry and clear. Suddenly, the check engine light came on steady, cruise control light began flashing and i had absolutely no acceleration! i pulled over and put the car in "park". Engine revved between 2000-3000 even though i was not pressing anything, just idling in p. Turned car off for a min, back on, dash lights still on - ce & cc. Still had no control over the gas pedal but when taken out of p, car got itself up to 15 mph somehow. We were very close to home so coasted home and into the driveway. When shifted to p at home, engine revved again. Next morning i drove it to school, ce & cc light still on but car drove ok. When i drove it again, dash lights were off and it drove fine. Same exact issue happened again on 12/23/14, again at a low speed on a side road, thankfully. Error code on the car is p2138 - throttle position sensor.there is no warning before this happens, car is fine and then suddenly it is not. From what i see online, this has been a common occurrence lately with this car. I am terrified that it will happen while i am in traffic or on the highway and cause a serious accident! please investigate this with subaru, i see that a lot of people have trouble getting it resolved and i don't have the time or money to pay for something that appears to be a common subaru defect.thank you for your time and attention to this serious issue!

While traveling at approximately 55mph, my legacy's throttle became unresponsive, the check engine light came on, and the cruise light began to flash. I was able to safely coast off the road and a subsequent code check revealed a code 2138 (throttle position sensor). In the ensuing months i replaced the tps, which didn't help, then reseated the connection on the throttle itself, which worked for about six months. The problem has recently recurred and seems to be a common problem.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact stated that while driving at different slow speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact called the johnson subaru of cary (919-238-6864, located at5010 old raleigh rd, cary, nc 27511, where it was informed that there was no recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall under the vin. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately. 136,000.

I was driving with my 6 month pregnant wife. No indication of impending problem. Suddenly the at oil temp indicator lighted up and split second i loss engine power with steering became stiff. Good thing i was not in the freeway yet and was able to safely pull over with residual momentum. This could be worse if i am passing thru my daily commute of using the bridge or if it happened in the freeway because i do not have total control of the carbrought the car to the dealer to diagnose the er-hc error in the dash and was advised that the issue was due to melted wiring harness connecting all the computer systems. Their only reason is that it has been driven for 133k miles that's why we saw the issue. I think this is a reliability/safety issue that needs to be taken into consideration.

While crossing a four-lane road, the accelerator pedal went limp and caused the engine to become unresponsive. The car would not accelerate and barely made it across the lanes of traffic to the median safely. The check engine light illuminated and when placed into park, the engine revved to approximately 2500rpm without my foot being on the pedal. I turned the engine off, and restarted it only to have it rev again on its own to 2500rpm. It took 5-6 attempts to restart it before the engine idled appropriately and the accelerator became responsive again. The check engine light remained on and obd code p2318 was returned when i plugged in a scanner to the port. This is not the first time this event has occurred; it has been random and sporadic for about 8 months now, sometimes occurring as often as 3-4 times per week to going 2 months in between episodes. Speed does not seem to be a factor, it's happened at both freeway and parking lot speeds, in all kinds of weather and at various temperatures, with the cruise control on and with the cruise control off.

I was traveling about 20mph during rush hour traffic. My vehicle lost it's throttle capabilities. This was very dangerous as i could only change lanes at idle speeds. I was nearly rear ended and side swiped. From what i can tell this has been a problem with several years of legacy/outback models.

Hello,i had bought a 2006 subaru legacy 2.5 gt limited and i live in the hills of western ma, so my car saw2 winters. Coming back from boston, ma 14 milesfrom home (out of 135 miles) as i was entering charlmnti slowed down to 30 mph. As i approached a corner with a car coming in my lane. I thoughtif i went into his lane best case scenario i could make it. But we clipped back bumpers and when i put my brakes on the car started going faster at that time i just said there was puddle with ice underneath. But now with the recall about the brake lines in certain states being recalled, thatmakes since because when i slammed onto my brakes the car started to go faster not slowing down. I contacted about the accident [xxx]vp of subaru of america or soa. All he kept on doing was denying about thisand offering $500.00 if i bought a new subaru and now with the recall of the brakes it makes sense and even the recall he won't replace my vehicle in closing i would like to say that my subaru was a lemon and at the time of accident they were looking fora carlike mine to swap it out with. [xxx]ps: i bet that never will i fillinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I had run into a few small problems this winter, like my steering wheel not turning when the car was cold, but i experienced my first major problem while my vehicle was stationary, but had been running. I was going through a drive through, had to put my car in park, then when i went to shift it back into drive, nothing would happen. It was stuck in park. I don't think the problem was temp. Related, it was about 40 degrees outside. After turning the car on/off four or five times i was able to get it going, but my headlights went out, which i thought was strange. While driving home i noticed that the "brake" light was illuminated. The next day, i started my car before work to defrost my windows. The car started just fine (all the electrics worked and the engine was on and running), and i went inside. About 15 minutes later i came back to my car, and the engine had turned off. At first the electrical components worked. My friend came and tested the voltage anyway, because a dead battery is common when it gets cold, and the battery was fine. The warning lights that i noticed were on were the "brake" light, as well as the "abs" light. After trying to turn it on a couple times, all the electrical components stopped working as well. It will start if i leave it for a few hours, but i am terrified to drive it anywhere to figure out what is going on.

My 2006 subaru outback ll bean has been cutting out on me while driving. One incident was on the highway at high speed. The gas pedal went limp and i had to navigate over 2 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. Gas pedal was completely unresponsive. Check engine light came on and the cruise control light began flashing. Every time this has happened it was either raining or snowing outside. Took the outback into the dealer and was told they weren't sure what the cause was because they have never seen it before. They suggested replacing the gas pedal assembly, but they were not certain. The same situation happened once when i turned on the cruise control.

After driving for about 30 minutes, the acceleration pedal suddenly became completely unresponsive. I attempted to accelerate by depressing the pedal twice but, to no avail.at this point, i was coasting but, the car was idling at exactly 2k rpms. Luckily, the road i was on wasn't too busy and i was to safely pull off the road, into the grass.after which, killed the engine.i waited about five minutes, started the car, tested my accelerator, and it worked again.so, i waited five more minutes, tested again, and drove home.no other incidents thus far.i'm going to test the throttle position sensor's (and accelerator pedal sensor's) seating, clean the connectors and, if necessary, replace one or both of the sensors.

Car loss power and went into limp mode with a solid check engine light and blinking cruise on the dash. The rpm jumped high with out the gas pedal being pushed down.vehicle was in motion driving at 25 mph before the aforementioned happened.

Vehicle wiring for rear wiper is faulty and damaged. Have seen the same thing on other outbacks and legacy wagons. Dangerous because this car is supposed to be optimal for all-weather driving. Hard to see out back in heavy rain.

I was driving my well maintained vehicle in the left lane of the highway during rush hour at 65mph when the car suddenly decelerated.nothing happened when i pressed the gas pedal. The engine continued to run.the check engine light came on. Traffic was very heavy and aggressive.somehow i managed to get across the lanes and off the road.i turned the car off and waited at least 5 minutes.i turned it back on and the check engine light was still on.i drove it to the dealership (over 20 minutes) without incident.when the car was serviced the check engine light was out, but there was a record of p2138 which is a throttle position sensor error.the technical couldn't find any failure or connection issues.no repairs or replacements were made.after reading numerous accounts of the same dangerous problem, i believe my car is unsafe.

Travel position sensor fails when driving causing driver to loose control of the vehicle.the accelerator stops responding, the car goes into fail safe mode ignores all inputs from driver.the car may coast at about 15mph.this could happen when making a left turn or on the highway at high speeds.

I experienced two issues with the electronic throttle position sensor in my 2006 subaru legacy. The first time i was traveling at approx. 35 mph and the rpm's began increasing rapidly. I was in traffic and unable to pull off to the side safely when the engine completely stalled. I sat there thinking that the motor was going to blow up if i attempted to start it again. I called my mechanic and he thought that it could be the throttle position sensor, as he has replaced many of them on subarus. I was able to start the car and move off to the side of the road to make sure that it was not going to do it again. The car was then taken to the mechanic where he cleaned the sensor and said if i have a problem again then i should replace it. Fast forward 4 months later and i experienced the same problem on a busy street where the car lost power and completely shut down after rpms skyrocketed and i was left with no control. Upon start up, the check engine light came on, obviously triggering a code that says the car is a death trap with a really poorly designed throttle. I plan to have the part replaced immediately, but this could be a serious safety issue for someone not in a position to move to the side of the road, as it just happens randomly with no warning signs.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. In addition, the check engine and the cruise control warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart after multiple attempts. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 181,000.

Car would not accelerate upon entering the highway after pushing on the gas pedal the car wouldn't do anything . I was able to get off to the side and missed being hit from behind from on coming traffic...i notice check engine light and flashing cruse control light... Second time some weeks later it did the same thing this is very dangerous because you never know when this will happen.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lost acceleration and the check engine and cruise control warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technician could not find a code to identify the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

While driving the check engine light came on and the cruise control started flashing, with no response from the gas pedal, only a high idle. Had the check engine light cleared and everything was fine. Out of town for the second occurrence same thing happened, now subaru has the car and i was told the engine harness has to be replaced at a cost of $1883.36. It seems to me that this should be covered under my extended warranty.

Was in cruise control around 45 mph, came to a stop and ce and cc lights illuminated, and gas pedal was dissabled, so a fellow motorist helped me push the car away from the intersection.after turning engine on and off several times throttle control came back and i could drive home (ce and cc lights still on).i replaced the gas pedal and reset the lights.similar problem reoccurred on way to work, ce and cc lights came on but still had throttle control and cc was inactive.i suspect a disconnect in the drive by wire logic for the gas pedal versus the cc.

The vehicle stopped responding to throttle pedal input, resulting in having to pull off the road, across lanes of traffic. Engine light comes on and cruise control light flashes. After restarting 3 times the lights go away. Dealer couldn't replicate so would not cover under warranty. This has happened on several occasions since, usually only in summer. Code is p2138 and appears to be a consistent problem with subaru vehicles.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the cruise control and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle would not accelerate and engaged into limp mode. The contact shut the engine off and after restarting the vehicle, the contact was able to drive without failure however, the warning lights continued to illuminate. The failure recurred three times intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 72,300. Updated 1/30/13 the consumer stated the vehicle didn't immediately go into limp mode, but it did after a period of 2-10 minutes after the hazard lights illuminated.updated 01/31/13

The turbocharger in my 2005 subaru legacy gt has needed replaced multiple times.each time the car becomes un-drivable and has also cut off while in motion in the middle of the road.the vehicle had this occur in january 2011, august 2012 and now again in october 2012.the car has been serviced regularly and has been driven under normal conditions.subaru has acknowledged that isdefective but has not issued a recall for this safety concern.i am one of quite a few customers reporting the same issue.despite having the vehicle serviced by subaru each time they have been unable to rectify this recurring hazard.there should be no reason that a vehicle should have an issue of this magnitude or severity at 63000, 68000 and again at 69000 miles.aside from the expense involved the issue is certainly of great safety concern.

This only affect 05-06 legacy gt owners.the up-pipe for the subaru legacy gt in these given years have a catalytic converter in there and after a certain mileage, the debris of the catalytic converter breaking down would shoot back into the turbocharger. That would cause the turbo failure and stall the vehicle unexpectedly. The catalytic converter in the up-pipe does not have any indication of % of wear and most non-car enthusiasts would not know what the issue is caused by except for an expensive turbo replacement and up-pipe replacements. Most of the owners of these issues turn over to catless up-pipe but that would cause the check engine light coming on and overboosting or the engine run rich, further damaging the engine. This can be pretty dangerous if a person is on a road trip and having a long drive as it directly impact the drivability of the vehicle. Subaru has recognize the issue and therefore 07+ turbo models all have a catless up-pipe with the ecu tuned to that specification. I believe it is not fair for 05-06 legacy gt owners to have to suffer from such a critical issue without some sort of compensation or recall.thank you for your time

The cylinder head gasket went out with only 67,000 mileage on the engine and i hear this happening on this style and year of the car. I have heard that subaru is recalling many of the engines from 2012 to 2013. This is a major issue and subaru should recall the engines and fix this problem free of charge.

The engine shutoff while my wife was driving this car in traffic.the resulting problem was a failed crankshaft position sensor.this failure shut the engine off and the car was without power to pull to the side of the road.had she been making a left turn in front of oncoming traffic, this could have resulted in a major multiple car accident.my question to subaru (given they like to tout their automobiles' safety record) is why would any engine sensor failure leave the car without power?isn't this the same as the infamous gm ignition switch tragedy?since the sensor was replaced, my wife is afraid to drive the car for understandable reasons.

Before this - engine replaced with very few miles - subaru claimed no warranty - insurance paid based on tiny leak in radiator - car just quit. Never knew of any leak - not water in garage floor ever. Then on 12/28/10 had heard loud knocking noise in front end. Subaru sent wrecker (2 hrs_ 1-way) to pick up car - replaced front end problems. Continued/constant problems with this vehicle - truly a lemon. I am 77 - have been stranded more than 2 x's recently - car just loses power - ck engine & cruise lights - also10/9/12 dash lights on drove 6+ hours to service in new braunfels, tx. Nearest dealer is 2.5 hrs away 1-way. Need dealers no one else will even look at subaru. This is truly the subaru from hell!!!!!limited income cannot buy another car but i should would if i could.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy.while the vehicle was stopped, the contact noticed smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle.once she pulled the vehicle over, she opened the hood and noticed flames coming from the radiator.the contact was able to extinguish the fire.the vehicle was towed to her local mechanic and repaired.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.the vehicle was never diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 36,700.

On june 24, 2008 my 06 subaru legacy lgt wagon suffered a serious engine failure.my oil pickup tube completely sheared off from the engine block due to a design flaw.apparently this is a known problem with these pickup tubes for the subaru legacy & impreza models.i called the dealership to report my oil light was flashing, and i was told by the dealership rep "to drive it in and they will check it out".i asked again are you sure its ok to drive and was told yes.later that day i called the dealer and asked what was going on and was told "my car would not be able to be looked at today but i could come get it and bring it in tomorrow".i again asked what was wrong and was told "they pulled a couple of cam timing codes but the car was ok to drive".then 20 minutes later the dealer called me and said "we have to put you in a loaner car because we drove your car into the shop checked your oil level which was fine, but when we tested your oil pressure we found it to be zero so the car is not drivable, and if i did i would blow the motor".i explained to the rep again but what about me being told to drive it in here.again was told "don't worry your car can go sometime without oil because of the new oils today & the way engines are built".without an oil pickup tube your engine has no oil pressure, in some severe cases the only indication that there was a problem is your oil light will flash then boom you blew your engine.the dealership insists "my engine is fine and it can run without oil pressure for sometime without causing any damage".every mechanic i talk to states your engine can not last with out oil, and it has caused harm to the engine or components of my engine. Subaru did replace the part under warranty but now i am left with a damage motor no extra added insurance. Subaru refusing to either rebuild my current motor or put a new one in.please someone help my car is only two years old with 37000 miles on it.sincerely, desperate

I have an 06 subaru legacy gt.at my 30,000mile checkup the report states good except the rear brake pads & rotors which is rated; may require follow up attention.the rear rotors were machined. At 37,778 miles the radio was replaced due to it shorting out. At this mileage my coolant cap is no longer holding pressure & has to be replaced. At 44,542miles, the invoice says replace rear brakes as only the brake pads were replaced & the rear rotors were machined 6,000miles ago. At 47,560 miles fourth gear is grinding.the invoice states; found low/dirty manual transmission fluid.the transmission fluid was changed at 30,000miles & the fluid levels are to be checked at every visit which was last at 47,478 miles.transmission fluid was replaced.at 47,560 miles; found rear brake rotors warped excessively.this was not mentioned at 44,542miles when the rear brake pads were replaced. The rear brake rotors were resurfaced at this time again; as the front rotors were to thin & were replaced. From 3-5-08 when the last major inspection was done the front rotors were marked;may require follow up attention.on 4-17-08 the rotors are too thin and need to be replaced.at 50,129 miles the wheel bearings were replaced.the leaking inner axle seals was unnoticed by the technician until i mentioned it. The invoice states;the technician found the front inner axle seals leaking. Found knocking noise coming from both front axles caused by lack of grease due to leaking boots. The axle boots were replaced. At 53,455 miles found front rotors warped, resurfaced front rotors as they were just replaced at 47,560 miles. The clutch feels that it is not working properly, fourth gear is grinding again & is difficult to get into gear.when shifting at times, clutch will be completely disengaged and vehicle revs to 5000+rpms for no reason.i picked my vehicle up to take to my transmission specialist for a 2nd opinion; the hood wasn't closed, it was only latched.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at night, the projector low beam headlights provide limited visibility when traveling up or downhill.the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer's service manager determined this was a design issue.

(1) fuel system ceased to operate while vehicle in motion.this was the second occurrence of this problem (supposedly, servicing corrected the problem after the first time)(2) car was stuck inside a nature reserve that has limited access.although i have the full warranty package, i could not get appropriate service to tow the car out for 1.5 days, and so missed 1 day of work.(3) the first time this happened, the fuel pump and related parts were replaced.this time, i found and replaced a burnt-out fuse for the fuel pump, and the new fuse immediately burnt out when i tried to start the car.it has now been towed to my dealer (1.5 hours away from where the problem occurred).(4) i have no faith in the safety of this particular (brand new) vehicle.if this had happened on the freeway, i would likely have been hit by vehicles from behind.i do not know whether this problem has occurred with other cars of this same model.

Complaint pertains to a 2006 subaru legacy 4dr sedan. In 2009, we experienced several instances of where the vehicle shut off completely when the driver stopped at a light or stop sign. Could not re-start for a minute or two. Multiple trips to the dealer over 9 months until finally diagnosed as a defective crankshaft sensor. Replaced by dealer (n/c). My reason for the report is that this could of occurred (but did not)on a major highway when a driver would come to a stop due to traffic. A stall on a major highway could put the driver in an unsafe situation.

While driving, the check engine light comes on and there is no power to the gas pedal. The car is unable to accelerate or maintain speed and the driver needs to avoid potential collisions by pulling over on the road or freeway.

While driving engine light and cruise lights come on and vehicle will not accelerate. I almost got rearended because of it. It set a code #p2138. It is very dangerous and there should be a recall on it.

While driving at any speeds, lose acceleration and need to coast and pull over. Just before shutting off engine, rpms jump to 3-4,000 when in park. Need to turn off engine for at least 30 seconds before being able to turn car back on with check engine light on and cruise light flashing, but have acceleration again. After driving for around 100 miles, check engine and cruise light turn off, but randomly incident can happen again. Had a diagnostic check, confirming throttle position sensor when check engine light was on.

Two occurrences so far on wednesday march 23 and tuesday april 5.vehicle suddenly displays check engine light and the cruise control light flashes and vehicle drops into "limp mode."problem is apparently due to wear on the potentiometers in the drive-by-wire system.this wear causes different readings which makes the motor think something is wrong with the pedal and cuts the vehicle speed to roughly 5 mph.first occurrence driving along at posted speed of 45 mph.second instance trying to leave from a stoplight, got into the intersection and the vehicle speed dropped, was barely able to get vehicle out of intersection.(cel code p 2138 - throttle position sensor)

My 2006 subaru legacy wagon suddenly loses acceleration sometimes, check engine light comes on, cruise control flashes, and the gas pedal does nothing.the car throws a p2138 code "throttle/pedal position sensor"code when checked. This has happened about 10 times over the last year. If you restart the car, it some times goes away, most times it requires several restarts and time.the car will do this when moving fast on the highway or just sitting.the gas goes limp and there is no revving or acceleration.this is a dangerous problem and apparently discussed on many forums, all involving subaru's from the same era.

Tps malfuntion. Stops acceleration at the highway that almost causes an accident.

While traveling at approximately 55mph, my legacy's throttle became unresponsive, the check engine light came on, and the cruise light began to flash. I was able to safely coast off the road and a subsequent code check revealed a code 2138 (throttle position sensor). The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy outback (na).while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the contact attempted to accelerate.the check engine indicator illuminated prior to the failure.the contact inspected the vehicle and was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure.the manufacturer was notified.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 73,000.

2006 subaru legacy, bought new, it has experienced a stutter since new. The stutter or lack of hesitation occurs every time i step on the gas pedal. It causes me to hesitate at traffic lights and everywhere else as i know the car will not respond properly. I missed the lemon law potential of this issue because i was going through a divorce, changing jobs and moving. The biggest reason i missed the lemon law recovery is i kept believing the dealers comments that it would be fixed at the major tune up. I consistently reported to the dealer at every service visit that the car still hesitates to no avail.i have found only limited information searching the internet for others with the same problem. I believe this qualifies as a safety issue because i cannot drive defensively, if i was required to hesitate quickly to avoid an accident i would not be able to do so.thank you!

Car hesitates for 1 second before moving.

About a month ago i purchased a 2006 subaru legacy 2.5 gt mt.i have two major complaints that most people complain about.1)hesitation under acceleration.this problem is known by subaru.one tech told me that the ecu needs to be reflashed, but that subaru has not come up with a flash to fix the problem yet.2) bad smell from the clutch.happens mostly in stop and go traffic, but occurs at other times too.i've had it happened when i first start the car, after driving it for a long time, cruising on the highway and shifting.it is very bothersome.

Passenger airbag sensor is faulty resulting in the car not realizing when a person is in the front passenger seat. This will not allow the front passenger airbag to go off when involved in a collision

The brake failed to stop. On city road. I hadto push the brake paddle all the way down only to get weak breaking capability. Took the car straight to garage for break repair. The car needed break liner parts. The cost of repair was $300.. Subaru admitted the problem, gave $150 coupon for good faith. Brake failure. Itcould kill me for brake failure..

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. While driving low speeds, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal lost pressure and the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. Brake warning light was illuminated and had to be to grand subaru (125 w grand ave, bensonville, il 60106, (888) 840-3934) where it was diagnosed that three of the brake lines needed to be replaced. The contact stated that two of the brake lines leaked fluid and one was badly corroded. The contact stated that the vehicle was currently at the dealer for repairs. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v311000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and case number: [xxx] was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Have an issue with driving between 60 and 70 mph, steering wheel vibrates, at times very hard and when braking, car shakes a great deal. Can at times happen at lower speeds as well. Made sure all tires were filled to specific psi levels provided by car manual as well as having tires balanced and rotated without much help. This has been occurring just of late over past 2 weeks and is an everyday/travel occurrence.

Car began to shake violently upon highway acceleration at 45 mph and got worse at 55 mph. I immediately proceeded to the mechanic who was only several miles away. Mechanic said that car could not be pushed in neutral to get it on the lift because brake calipers were seized. Upon further inspection by mechanic it was determined that corroded brake line had burst.mechanic said he has seen this before and that it was most likely due to salt used to treat roads during the wintertime. Calipers, rotors, pads, and brake lines all needed to be replaced. Very strange because i just had new calipers put on the car two years ago.

Even after taking my vehicle in for the brake line recall, months later after a subaru dealership tested them, my breaks still gave away. It was said that it was severely corroded and it was blown. This happens 3-4 months after i had taken it in to get the recall checked. I ended up having to pay half the cost to fix it. I shouldn't had to. They should've been able to identified it before it had happened. It does not take 3-4 months to be come so severely corroded that my breaks gave away while driving to walmart. Luckily i was right by the dealership so once the warning light came on, i quickly drove it off the city street and into subaru dealership. As i was parking it, i no longer had breaks. I had immediately pulled my e-brakes in order to stop my vehicle in a parking spot.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle did not decelerate when the brake pedal was depressed. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 93,000.

Our 2006 legacy outback was our 4th family subaru, and was recently purchased used. I'm a driver with over 48 years of accident-free experience in new england and the northern us, traveling on personal and business trips during all types of severe winter driving conditions. While driving on a two-lane state road, light snow had just begun. Speed limit (50) and just developing conditions warranted no special concerns, however once or twice the back end felt as though wind was affecting travel (there was no wind), i slowed to 30-35 mph although snow still hadn't covered the road. Minutes later while on a straight-away with oncoming traffic approaching at a distance, the front end began drifting into the other lane. Without braking or any significant change in acceleration, i slowly corrected and the car began to come back to the right, however as i straightened the wheel, the car began pushing hard to the right, and would not respond to my counter steering. The car went off the road and struck a tree near the shoulder of the road. Now i can understand the car drifting to the right after my initial correction, since the road was crowned in the center and the road had snow on it. However, i didn't understand why the car had drifted to the left initially. It was a straight-away, i was steering straight so it wasn't a case of under-steer, and the peculiar thing was that at the time it felt as though the rear end was pushing me out of my lane. None of this made any sense until after the accident when we began researching and learned of similar reports described as 'ghost walking'.the initial experience of the 'wind' sensation wiggling the back end, and the inexplicable 'push' from the rear right seemed to fit well with the experiences of others. One other note, between our two dogs and some luggage, we did have about 250 lbs loaded from the rear seats to the storage area.

I was traveling about 20mph during rush hour traffic. My vehicle lost it's throttle capabilities. This was very dangerous as i could only change lanes at idle speeds. I was nearly rear ended and side swiped. From what i can tell this has been a problem with several years of legacy/outback models.

Many of the subaru vehicles are being recalled because of the front suspension - arm control - and i feel my vehicle should be included in this recall and it is not. It is a defect in so many of their vehicles. What can i do to have subaru reimburse me for this defect?thank you for your help.

Car loss power and went into limp mode with a solid check engine light and blinking cruise on the dash. The rpm jumped high with out the gas pedal being pushed down.vehicle was in motion driving at 25 mph before the aforementioned happened.

The engine light and cruise control light came on & remained. Car slowed to a crawl. When car restarted could drive at a normal speed, but warning lights, listed as above, remained on. Took in to mechanic who stated the throttle pedal needed to be replaced as apparently there is an inherent defect (has happened to many others). Technically should be a recall, but so far is not!

The dashboard surface is extremely sticky, particles of any type of rag or towel used to clean it adhere to the surface and can not be removed.it also causes an unsafe glare when driving at night.

While driving at about 30-40 mph, the driver felt a sudden accelaration that couldn't control and his car crashed against the sidewalk and rolledover.we requested the dealer to inspect the vehicle in order to determine if computers can display any failure, but they rejected to accept it.

Driving at 35mph i pressed the gas pedal to accelerate to go up a hill and nothing happened. Steering became very tight. Had to coast to the side of the road. Shut car off and waited then turned back on. Has happened 1 other time since first incident, with no warning or indication. Researched online to find this is a common problem with my vehicle's throttle/pedal position switch. Had i been on a more busy street or on a highway when this occurred, numerous vehicles may have been effected.

I was traveling about 20mph during rush hour traffic. My vehicle lost it's throttle capabilities. This was very dangerous as i could only change lanes at idle speeds. I was nearly rear ended and side swiped. From what i can tell this has been a problem with several years of legacy/outback models.

While driving the check engine light suddenly came on and the gas pedal stopped being responsive. Luckily i was able to get to the side of the road and put the vehicle in park. When in park the engine revved to about 2.5k rpm and stayed there. I shut off the vehicle and restarted it and it stayed at that level. After several more tries it eventually started up and ran fine. The check engine light code is p2138 for the throttle position sensor.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact statedthat while driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact was able turn the vehicle off and restart it. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the technician diagnosed that the throttle position sensor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000. The current mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy. The contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated while the brakes were engaged at a complete stop.the contact was able to restart the vehicle with the illumination of the check engine warning light.the vehicle was taken into a local dealer where the technician diagnosed that the throttle position sensor had failed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000 and the current mileage was 129,000.

I was driving in the left lane of the highway during rush hour when the accelerator stopped responding.i would push the gas pedal and nothing would happen.the engine seemed to be running nominally (idling, since the accelerator wasn't working).no unusual sounds, no jerking, nothing.then the check engine light came on.i managed to get across the lanes of traffic coasting and rolled slowly into a gas station.i turned the car off and turned it back on and everything worked fine again.i finished driving to work without incident.i went after work and had the check engine code read.it was a stored code (no longer actively faulted) of p2138 which is a throttle position sensor error.i've been reading online and this appears to be very common and an ongoing problem for lots of people.it is incredibly dangerous to not be able to control your car randomly in the middle of the road.hopefully you can help make subaru fix this safety issue.

While driving in traffic all of a sudden the gas pedal stops working, the check engine light illuminates the cruise control light illuminates but the pedal has no effect on the engine the car slows very quickly and comes close to causing an accident. I have checked forums on the web and found where many others have had same issues. The forum is subaruoutback.org please check this sight the code is p2138 any help will be appreciated

The contact owns a 2006 subaru legacy outback. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard however, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted nor notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000. The vin was not available.

Ive had a on going issue with my tps i press the gas and nothing happens i've almost gotten into multiple accidents from it happening in the middle of a road/intersection even almost got arrested due to it happening at an air port

Driving at 55 mph vehicle accelerator became unresponsive. Check engine light came on as well as cruise and sport lights. There was no power at the pedal. I had to coast to a stop in traffic lane. Engine surged up and down in rpm's. Shut key car off. After a couple minutes, car started and driving was resumed like nothing happened. Warning lights remained on in dash.

I was driving about 40 mph when i realized that i had no control of the pedal/gas. When i looked at the dash board the check engine light was on and the cruise control light was flashing. I had to pull over and when i put the car in park the vehicle revved high. It took about 15 minutes before the car restarted. I was able to drive home. The diagnostic machine indicated that it was the throttle pedal position sensor.code p2138. The throttle body was replaced. I am still having the same issues.

Vehicle failed to sustain highway speed although pedal was pressed steadily and then variably to regain throttle control.vehicle stalled on freeway, very dangerous situation.mechanic test show error code p2138.replaced accelerator pedal position sensor switch assembly to resolve issue.no prior evidence of failure to provide warning prior to throttle system failure.cost to repair: $282.00 p&l, 296.26 with tax.

Travel position sensor fails when driving causing driver to loose control of the vehicle.the accelerator stops responding, the car goes into fail safe mode ignores all inputs from driver.the car may coast at about 15mph.this could happen when making a left turn or on the highway at high speeds.

Car loss power and went into limp mode with a solid check engine light and blinking cruise on the dash. The rpm jumped high with out the gas pedal being pushed down.vehicle was in motion driving at 25 mph before the aforementioned happened.

Tapped brake pedal to disable cruise control. No throttle control when resuming manual speed control. Coasted to a stop through multiple lanes of freeway traffic. Engine kept running possibly at raise idle speed when stopped. No loss of power steering or brakes.turned key off.restarted after maybe less than a minute. Throttle control resumed.check engine light was on.drove to multiple locations to get codes read. After 2 or 3 restarts check engine light went out. Found a shop to read codes. Code p2138 in memory.have removed throttle pedal assembly and tested position sensor resistance values.some readings may appear to be slightly out of range indicated in service manual.intend to recheck readings and possibly replace pedal assembly. May also check harness resistance and/or consult dealer. Mileage reported is approximate.

While driving, the check engine light comes on and there is no power to the gas pedal. The car is unable to accelerate or maintain speed and the driver needs to avoid potential collisions by pulling over on the road or freeway.

One morning after starting my car i noticed the check engine light was on.as i decided to drive the car down to a local mechanic, i noticed that i had no acceleration power.the car was on, engine was running, but whenever i pushed the gas pedal nothing happened.the car would idle high and coast when put in drive or reverse, but would not accelerate as i pushed the pedal.there have been numerous counts of this happening to people across the country.luckily i wasn't on the freeway when this happened.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds downhill with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated without warning.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined that was the way the cruise control was designed to function.the dealer instructed the contact to disengage the cruise control while descending downhill.the manufacturer was alerted. Updated 9/13/2006 - the cruise control was set at 58 mph but while driving downhill the vehicle accelerated to 77 mph

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling the windshield wipers turned off after 5 hours of use.the wipers came back on and went off again three times before quitting.the vehicle was towed to a dealership and left over night before it could be inspected the next morning.upon inspection the windshield wipers worked.according to the owner's manual there is a safety feature that turns off the wiper motor before it becomes too hot.although the circuit breaker did not appear to be faulty the dealership replaced it.during the return trip the wipers failed again.the vehicle will be taken into the dealership.updated 2/28/2006 - the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the problem was faulty brushings in the wiper motor.
