Multiple sporadic issues with the front passenger air bag indicator.1) when a passenger is seated with seatbelt fastened in the front passenger seat, once the car is in motion the passenger airbag indicator will change status to off and a red airbag/balloon indicator light will show on the dash as if there is no-one in the passenger seat. 2) when someone sitting in the front passenger seat exits the car, after driving away the passenger air bag indicator will turn on as if someone is sitting in the seat and the fasten seat belt chime will continue sounding even through the passenger seat is empty.3) with no passenger in the car, if you place a cell phone directly on the passenger seat while it is plugged in to the usb port charging, the passenger air bag indicator will switch status to on and the fasten seat belt chime will sound.if you pick up the cell phone from the seat (still plugged in to usb port charging), the indicator will change back to off and the fasten seat belt chime will stop.if you place the cell phone back on the seat, the air bag indicator will switch back to on and the fasten seat belt chime will sound.issue #1 seem to occur most often in high humidity or rain.issue #3 occurs if the cell phone is greater than 35% charged.
I was involved in an accident while driving my recently acquired 2013 subaru impreza, where another driver hit my vehicle in a side impact on the driver side front wheel and driver door (i can send the pictures via email).the good news is that i was able to get out on the other side of the vehicle. The bad news is that the side air bags did not deploy, and this was also noted by the emergency crew who arrived on the scene. I believe that this may be a design flaw or defect that subaru engineers need to have a closer look at.
The dashboard 'airbag malfunction' light turns on and the passenger airbag light switches to 'off' while there is an adult passenger in the front passenger seat of the car.this happens upon starting the car and continues until the car engine is shut off.i am afraid if there is a crash that the passenger air bag will not deploy.
When a passenger is in the seat, when driving or parked, the airbag sign illuminates off. Occasionally the airbag indicator will illuminate on the dashboard. At times the sensor will sense the smallest things, such as a small box of tissues, and the airbag will turn on without a passenger. This is an ongoing problem for the last 3-4 months.
I recently began to experience an issue with my 2013 impreza - in the beginning, when the passenger seat was occupied, the detection system would failed to detect the passenger, and the passenger airbag light would come on, indicating that the passenger airbag was not activated. I had the issue diagnosed while in for my regular maintenance, and it was determined to be a malfunction of the occupant detection system. Over the course of a few months, the frequency of the issue increased, to the point that the passenger airbag is rarely activated. I understand the occupancy detection system is under recall for subaru's forester model; though my seats are not heated, and my car is slightly older, my vehicle is experiencing the same malfunction, i believe it too should be subject to the recall and repaired by subaru.
Takata recall.having cell phone on seat will activate the airbag on and will set off seat belt light and sound. After getting the seat wet, airbag would not go on with someone sitting in it and light would be on the dash. I had to let the seat dry and that seemed to make it work again after getting wet. This is passanger seat. I see that there's a recall for that on the 2012 model. The 2013 model is equipped with the same sensors as the 2012. Would like to see this get updated and moved to a recall just like the 2012 models.
I have been having airbag problems with the passenger seat. Whenever there is a passenger sitting, the amber indicator light is in the 'off' position and there is a red airbag light on the dashboard. It doesn't matter if the passenger is dry or damp, if the car is stationary or driving on the street/highway. Sometimes, when there is no passenger and i place my cell phone on the seat, the airbag indicator light turns on as if there is a passenger. This is a serious issue in case of an accident. Nice to know that subaru cares so much about 'safety'. The 2012 was recalled, please recall the 2013 also before someone dies or has a serious injury!
The srs sensor was lighting up and the airbag indicator light began to switch to off even when the passenger seat was occupied.i took my car into the dealership and they confirmed the switch has gone back and needs replaced.luckily the car is still under warranty so i am only responsible to pay for the $100 warranty deductible.after much research, i have found that this is the same srs switch used in the 2012 subaru impreza that has been replaced due to a recall.
My airbag light turns on and off intermittently. The passenger side sometimes says "passenger airbag on" inappropriately (nobody is sitting in the passenger seat). Also it sometimes says "passenger airbag off" if somebody is sitting in the passenger seat. I am nervous if i get in a crash my airbag system will no protect my passenger. There has been a recall issued for 2012 subaru impreza airbag systems, and the same system is used in the 2013 model, so i'm not sure why this is not being fixed.
While driving on the highway the dashboard air bag light activated while both front seats were occupied. The lights went off when the vehicle was shut off and restarted but activated again within approximately two to three miles of driving again.
There is an intermittent issue where the "passenger air bag off" light erratically comes on when an occupant is seated in the passenger seat, and then the red dash light looking like a balloon will come on. Neither the weight/positioning of the occupant nor restarting the vehicle change whether the passenger air big off light will turn on or off.
To start off i have an extended warranty on my vehicle felt my clutch starting to shift they told me i needed a new clutch flywheel and throttle bearing. Took it to a independent repair shop. They replaced the throttle bearing which was completely warped clutch was good but replaced anyway because at that point why not the entire transmission was out. Called subaru nothing was done. Also just got into an accident vehicle was totaled and my airbags did not inflate.
My passenger airbag sensor never turns on. Even if i have a passenger in the seat, the light still remains off. I know that the 2012 models used the same occupancy sensor as the 2013 impreza but the 2013 models haven't been recalled. This doesn't make any sense because they're the same exact models so they should also be recalled so they can be fixed. The seat has never been wet and i haven't been in any accidents, so this is a faulty occupancy sensor. I don't know why i shoul dhave to pay $1500 for a faulty sensor.
The passenger air bag illuminated with an off. It should always be on. The bought the car new with less than a year driving it and the passenger air bag illumination light turns to off. Its really scary to think of what might have happen if there was an accident during the malfunction.
When the passenger seat is damp, the passenger occupancy sensor stops working and deactivates the passenger airbag when an adult is occupying the front passenger seat.when this happens, the front passenger's frontal airbag indicator (located in the center display) turns "off" (even if an adult is sitting in the seat).the red srs airbag system warning (light located in the instrument cluster) turns on when this issue occurs. Eventually the light shuts off by itself. This issue happensregardless whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion.
Complaint regarding: subaru passenger-airbag occupant detection system (ods).passenger airbag signal turns on and off unexpectedly during the following circumstances: passenger in the seat and the car is stationary, no passenger in the seat and the car is stationary, passenger in the seat when car is in motion in the street, passenger in the seat when car is in motion on the highway, no passenger is in the seat and car is in motion in the street and highway.passenger seat was not wet at any time.laptop and cell phone was on the seat (backpack or passenger lap), or in close proximity in most incidents.any passenger occupant has always been an adult meeting the state and federal safety regulations.resource to explain concern in greater detail. And to express deep concern that the impreza 2012 sensor recall was not extended to the impreza 2013 year:https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15353278/subaru-recalls-32000-imprezas-for-airbag-sensors/resource for impreza 2012 and 2013 ods mechanism:https://www.stanleysubaru.com/blog/2012/august/6/how-does-the-occupant-detection-system-ods-work-in-my-subaru.htm
While driving on the highway with a passenger, the air bag light came on and the passenger air bag indicator switched from on to off.i had already driven probably 35 miles at highway speed (65mph) at the time this occurred.i was in motion at the time, changing lanes as i prepared to exit the highway.after the vehicle was turned off, the lights behaved as expected but the vehicle had to be turned off to fix.
Srs airbag warning light illuminates and passenger airbag turns off even with passenger in the front seat. Car was in motion. This is a well known defect and a recall was issued for the exact same reason for the 2012 model, which has the same components as the 2013. Is the nhtsa going to issue a recall or ignore a known and very dangerous fault?
Takata recall - i purchased my car used from a dealership in may 2018 and almost immediately the airbag light began to malfunction.the airbag light will shut off regardless of whether a purse, backpack or person is sitting in the passenger seat.in some cases there are no electronics, others there are.it can also shut off if someone sits in the car with wet clothing (after a rain storm or after swimming).this is extremely dangerous and not acceptable that this has not been addressed as a recall issue.this vehicle was manufactured in 2012, but is a 2013 model.with the exact same airbag and seat features as 2011-2012 subarus with recalls issued, this is extremely negligent on subaru's part. I should not have to make passengers sit in the back seat.this is my first subaru, based on friend recommendations, but it is highly unlikely i would buy another due to the lack of responsibility taken by subaru to repair this extremely dangerous defect.i believed that subaru took pride in making safety a number one priority with their vehicles, but no longer believe that to be the case.i also don't believe that spending $1,100 on a replacement seat, with no guarantee of this fixing the problem, should be my out of pocket expense.please issue a recall and prove you are the reputable company i believed you to be.
Passenger airbag light activates/ illuminates/ stays on when passenger with wet/ moist clothing sits in passenger seat. This also occurs after cleaning the passenger seat with upholstery cleaner and the seat has not fully dried. Upon reading about this problem, i found that a recall was issued for 2012 models. Please include 2013 model as this is a serious safety issue.
Passenger side airbag disabled because the under seat sensor is faulty in 2013 subaru impreza. The dealer charged me $154.95 just to read the code to explain the fault. Codes b1760 and b1761 indicate the "sensor mat is abnormal." tech recommends to replace the passenger seat bottom. The issue is that this costs $1181.85 to replace. Subaru should issue a recall on this model because many of us are putting our passengers at unreasonable risk due to a faulty sensor installed by subaru. The cost to replace it is extortionate. I love my car and i hope that subaru will do the right thing and help restore my trust in their safety record.
The passenger's seat ocs malfunctions with terrifying frequency. The car will be in motion with the passenger's seat occupied and the airbag light will illuminate on the dashboard. Once again while the car is in motion. I have seen many posts detailing the same experience. Subaru has recalled other cars for this problem. My 2013 impreza needs to be included as well.
The front passenger airbag turns off when there is a passenger in the seat and the car is in motion.
I was involved in an accident on i-10 on 11/27/2019 at 2 pm. I was traveling at 60- to 65 mph and hit a suv that had stopped in the left hand lane. The airbags did not deploy ( passenger or driver side) i have reported this to subaru and so far they have not been helpful. I received contusions from my right hip to my left clavicle but no broken bones.
Passenger driver airbag is off even though somebody seating . This is safety issue and i discover it recently. Subaru dealer charged me for inspection and repair because item is out of warranty.
The passenger air bag light does not come on or activate when someone is sitting in the passenger seat.the air bag light in the dash by the speedometer also comes on randomly.the exact same thing is happening that other people have commented about on this website. The 2012s were recalled, but not the 2013s with the same parts?? get it together subaru...
Air bag is disabled when moisture or humidity is present on the passenger seat. Specifically the airbag red light illuminates and the amber passenger side air bag off light illuminates. This is a problem that presented itself soon after purchase. It has happened while stationary & while driving. It has been triggered by both humidity in the air & perspiration by the passenger. I believe the problem has to do with moisture compromising the passenger seat switch. The incident has happened many times. Most recently i had left the rear window open it was humid but there was no rain, when i went to work in the morning the red airbag light was on. The problem may be getting worse over time, in the past a towel or trash bag would prevent it but no, as mentioned it is being triggered by humid air. I videoed one example and have attempted to include it but it is too large i would be glad to email it if you are interested, my daughter is in the front seat, the airbag light is on and the passenger side airbag indicator shows off. The video was taken on sept 30th 2014, the vehicle had 35,212 miles on it at the time.
The airbag indicator sometimes indicates "off" whena passenger is sitting in the front passenger seat. This is inconsistent and is a real safety issue. Obviously dangerous to the passenger if the airbag does not deploy because the airbag system does not recognize that there is a passenger sitting in the front passenger seat.this is serious and needs to be addressed.fyi: this happens on start up or while the engine is running and a passenger gets in the front seat.
After cleaning front seats with upholstery cleaner and seats damp air bag light red comes on also shows passenger air bag as off even though someone in seat.happens ifcar stationary or moving.
The passenger side occupant detection system has failed. When someone sits in the passenger seat the airbag is not activated and the airbag warning light comes on. This seems to be a common complaint.
Passenger air bag red dash light remains on weather in motion or stationary with a passengeror without.amber air bag center dash light remains "off" in motion or sationary with or without a passenger in the seat. Turning the car on or off does not change the issue. Car has 112,000 miles.
Sensor for air bag in passenger seat not working correctly. Works 80% of the time, but will put a warning on my dashboard randomly while i'm driving and disable airbag. It could happen when stationary or driving. Doesn't seem to matter the speed or if anybody is in the seat or not. It's been happening on and off for almost 3 years. Please help, the fix is very expensive and it seems like this is not the first time there have been problems with subarus passenger side airbag sensors. The k you very much.
Passenger air bag does not register as 'on' when a passenger is present. Even a 15 pound backpack will cause the vehicle to show that the passenger airbag is off. It never comes on. It's gotten to the point where i will not allow people to ride in the front of my car with me, because i am worried they may be seriously injured in case of an accident. Why have such a spacious vehicle if its occupants aren't safe? also, the recalled sensor in the 2012 impreza cars is the same technology in the 2013 models. Why has this not been taken care of? *dt
The front airbag passenger sensor malfunctions. It turns the airbag off while a passenger is sitting in the seat. This happens while the car is in motion, both on city streets and on the highway. Restarting the car and repositioning the seat does not reliably turn the seatbelt back on. This happens even when the seat is dry.
Periodically the "passenger air bag off" signilluminates even though someone is in the passengerseat. I bought the car from enterprise rental severalyears ago and brought to their attention. Somehowtheir mechanic got light to go off. Problem has persistedbut didn't pay much attention until now. My daughter willbe driving the car. Do not trust the airbag or seat sensor.on passenger side.
Our subaru impreza air bag & seat belt censor malfunctions regularly when the car is in motion.when no passenger is in the front passenger seat, the sensor buzzes to indicate the presence of a passenger.the sensor malfunctions when my purse is on the seat.it malfunctions and buzzes when i simply touch the seat with slight pressure.once it seemed to go off because of condensation from a cold beverage bottle resting on the seat (that is it buzzed after the bottle was no longer on the seat, but it was damp to the touch).conversely -- and less frequently -- the sensor malfunctions when a passenger isin the front passenger seat. While the car is in motion, the sensor will change its status, suggesting that there is no occupant in the seat. This seems to imply that the air bag will not go off in the event of an emergency.this seems like a malfunction with potential to be life-threatening.
I was driving straight on a city street and the airbag light came on, i don't know why, but i do know the airbags will not deploy if i get into a accident. The car only has 95000 miles on it seems like a defect, never own a vehicle that had this happen
Passenger airbag not engaged when the passenger is in the seat with the belt on/off. Continues even after the vehicle is turned off and started on again.occurs most often if the humidity is high, seat is moist, or raining.brought to the attention of subaru dealership while having service performed.was told this is normal.recall only issued for 2012 impreza even though the same sensor and airbag is installed in this model year.
The passenger air-bag on light illuminated and the fasten seatbelt warning sound was sounded even though there was nothing in the passenger seat. This has happened multiple times, the most recent at 21,793 miles.
I purchased my 2013 subaru impreza as a certified pre-owned vehicle with ~54,000 miles on it in august 2016. Over the last year, i've noticed an intermittent problem with the occupant airbag sensor in the front passenger seat. Sometimes, when there is a passenger sitting in the front seat and when the vehicle is in motion, whether on a highway or on a side street, the passenger airbag off light will come on, and the red air bag light in the driver information center will come on- meaning that the airbag is off when someone is sitting in the seat and the vehicle is in motion. Initially, i thought this could have been a fluke so i took the wait and see approach.this past spring, the problem started happening more, so i've since started documenting the problem every time it happens.i noticed that this problem happens more when the passenger side is damp, whether it is because i'm driving in a hot and humid location, or passenger has damp clothes due to coming back from the beach or river, exercising, or just being plain warm & sweaty. There is a recall for other 2012 imprezas for this exact problem, but my car, which i believe has the same sensors as the recalled ones for the 2012 impreza, is not covered by the recall.
I really feel my 2013 impreza should fall into the takata recall. I made sure to check my vehicle didn't qualify, but it appears to be doing similar things presented for those currently in the recall. The first time i have proof of my airbag indicator light was 7.4.2016 at 45,896 miles. At the time, i was the only person in the vehicle. When i went to the local subaru dealer to have it checked, they said they couldn't check it unless the light was lit (which it was not) and suggested the seat might have been wet. Most recently, i have had a front passenger in my vehicle and the indicator light has come on and the air bag light switched to off at least 3 times in the last two weeks. I purchased my subaru for the safety and this is a huge issue if the airbag does not deploy if for some reason i get into an accident. Just continuing driving with this light on caused me a great deal of anxiety for fear of the unknown. I like to think i am a good driver, but i couldn't live with myself if a defect of my vehicle was responsible for losing a precious passenger. Please try to review more of these cases and update the recall list.for the first documented instance, the vehicle was in a driveway and parked without a passenger. These last couple of incidences have been both parked and in motion along roadways ranging from 50-70mph.
I had to replace the passenger seat airbag because of a sensor malfunction. This is the very issue that the nhtsa is investigating for the subaru impreza 2012, yet i own a subaru impreza 2013. It is less than two years old and i should not need to replace something that is a known defect.
I received a legal notice from auto airbag settlement about takata recall on the airbags in my car and ishould make an appointment for repairs by a local retailer as soon as possible.
Warning lamps for stability control air bag randomly light up on my dash board panel. The passenger air bag will also switch to off even when a passer is sitting in the seat or the passenger seat belt warning sound will go off if a small object is placed on the seat. My mechanic can't find the issue as i cannot recreate the circumstances that cause the lamps to switch on or the warning siren to chime. Computer readings do not return any "codes" if the lamps aren't on.
The seat bag indicator light in my 2013 impreza (manual) goes on in humid weather -- all fall, winter, and spring it's fine; as soon as humid summer weather comes... The light goes on. I assume that because the light is on the air bags won't work!!... This seems like a pretty bad problem to me; and from what i can see i am not the only one with this issue. Mileage if you need it is: 107005
My motherhas an issue with her airbag lightin her subura impreza car off and on first time last yearandshe brought into subaru and the light went off they toldher next time it happens to bring in right away thenshe was driving last week and the light popped onagain she called subaru america headquartersabout they told her it was a safety issue sheand sent her in the subaru dealer in bloomfieldnj to get a diagnostic test to see what is wrong with the carafter a couple of hours of checking they said it was nothingwrong with the car but when my mom asked the ladyif she got into an accident would her airbags deploythe ladyresponded with she is not sure it dependsso they released her car without being 100% surealso, i've heard my mother complain about theseatbelt tightens up around her neck while she wasdriving certain things in this car is unsafe andi fear for my moms' safety and my owns when i ridein this car now because on the unclarity if theairbags are gong work or not my mom's phoneautomatically records so i have attached the convoso you can hear the employees uncertaintythe car was sold to my mom pre-owned and i'm not sure if the car came with issuesbecause the cars history was not providedto her, some of the issues the car has can be from whatever happened to the car before my mom owned itbecause my mom does not drive much so the car shouldnot be having glitches and malfunctions they claimthat the glitch in the car came from a water spill on the seatnobody spilled water in the car since my mom ownedit so that is a mystery as well only two peopleride in that car she's the driver and im the passengerneeded you can download recording at this link https://vocaroo.com/i/s0zen2x5[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*pm
When the passenger seat is unoccupied and no electronic devices or personal belongings are in the seat, the seatbelt alarm comes on and the airbag goes from the off position to on, this is same thing that was happening in with the 2012 passenger-airbag occupancy sensor, recall.
Cleaned upholstery and seats slightly damp, when i started car the red air bag light came on and passenger seat showed air bag off even though a passenger was in seat.it has been two days and air bag light is still on and passenger bag shows as off even if passenger is in seat. As soon as i start the car the air bag light comes on and stays on while driving.
In regard to the recent recall for the 2012 subaru imprezapassenger-airbag occupancy sensor you should know that exactly the same problem is happening in my 2013 subaru impreza.
My car is having the same exact behavior described in a recall for the 2012 model year (nhtsa campaign number 15v419000, subaru recall number wqt-55). My car is not covered by the recall, but it seems like it should be since my problem appears to be identical to that which is described.
Seat occupancy sensor does not register adult human male, gets tripped if cell phon e is in proximity to the passenger in the front passenger seat. Front airbag is therefore off and will not go off in case of accident. This occurs if the front passenger has a laptop or cellphone. Upon inspection by dealership i was told that the sensor is broken but due to water damage which has not happened - if a damp user is enough to cause damage to sensor i believe subaru is purposefully releasing poorly designed and engineered parts. This issues first appeared in 2017 and was intermittent and is not occurring every time a passenger rides with me.
I had my dealership investigate an issue with the passenger airbag in my 2013 subaru impreza. They diagnosed a short in the ods module in the passenger front seat. The dealer stated they need to replace the passenger seat. After the diagnostic fee and labor, this would cost $1500.i did some research and discovered the ods module was recalled in the 2012 subaru impreza, nhtsa campaign id 15v419000. The summary of that recall describes exactly what happened: "subaru of america, inc. (subaru) is recalling certain 2012 model year subaru impreza 4-door and station wagon vehicles (except wrx/sti models) manufactured april 21, 2011, to february 16, 2012. In the affected vehicles, the occupant detection system (ods) may deactivate if a front seat passenger operates a device that is plugged into the power outlet such as a music player or cell phone, or touches a metal part of the vehicle such as the forward/rearward seat adjuster lever." my wife plugged her phone into the power outlet when the passenger seat airbag indicator switched to off.

December 19, 2013, i purchased a subaru impreza from koeppel subaru in long island city, n.y. The dealership told me the car was "brand new" and used only for test drives. After 5 months of driving the car, the car began to have problems to start. Putting the key in the ignition, there was no response. The car door had to be opened manually. The airbag warning light on the passenger side would not go off regardless of the seat being empty or occupied. Someone gave me a "boost" which started the car. I was able to drive and then parked the car. I went on vacation for two weeks. After the car being unused for two weeks, again the car would not start. I informed the dealership of this problem and was advised by them to have the car towed to any subaru dealership for repair. The car was towed to bayridge subaru which evaluated the car and said that the car had a dead cell in the battery.subaru dealers were informed in april of 2013 that impreza had a defect which cause electrical problems in the car leading to the battery dying and engine problems. Koeppel subaru did not inform me of this recall before i purchased the car in december of 2013. They also did not inform me that the car was previously corporate owned. I believe that koeppel should have informed me about the recall as well as the fact that it was used as a "loaner" before i purchased the car. I believe koeppel subaru committed consumer fraud by not informing me of the recall and the car's history before purchase. I do not feel safe driving the car and simply want a refund of my down payment ($5,000) and car payments made up to current date. Koepell subaru should be investigated for their practices in selling used cars. I refuse to pay bayridge subaru $35/day for storage of this unsafe car. Koeppel subaru isin violation of consumer protection law.
When passenger ( adult over 130 lbs)sits in front passenger seat the airbag sensor enables.while driving with the passenger the airbag sensor will disengage thus rendering the airbag useless.also happens if seat is slightly wet. This was a recall to the 2012 subaru impreza's and the 2013 models use the same airbag sensor.
Every time it rains or is wet outside my air bag light comes on and acts as if i dont have a passenger next to me, but i do. They are sitting with seat belt on in passenger seat. But the lights on my dash say otherwise. This issue only happens when its wet out. And it shows the light on dash when im driving, not when i first start the car.
On a hot, long drive with a sweaty friend in the front passenger seat, the passenger airbag turned off according to the dash indicator. The airbag error indicator also turned on. It was a long, highway drive and outdoor temperatures were 80-100f, though i was running ac inside.
I've been having issues with the passenger airbag light for years. I have brought it into the dealership many times over the course of 4 years and they cannot reproduce it, and often state that there is no record of others reporting this problem. When i have a passenger in the seat, the car doesnt register them and the airbag is turned off. Whether the seat is damp or bone dry, moving or not, it still fails most of the time, which is very worrisome. While the 2012 model have been recalled, the 2013 has not, despite the fact that they use the same exact technology. This has made me unlikely to buy another subaru in the future, because it is a very dangerous and serious issue. The 2012 was recalled, please recall the 2013 also before someone dies or has a serious injury!
Recall in other impreza in same year model, but not mine specifically. Same issue occurs with airbag occupancy sensor in passenger seat. Airbag light comes on with any amount of weight in passenger seat, airbag however does not turn on. Stays off with passenger in seat. This was recalled in many other 2012-2014 impreza. Subaru confirmed that passenger occupancy in my impreza is same part as occupany sensor recalled in other impreza. I was sold this car by an authorized dealer with this issue (not the company listed on the receipts provided). Had to pay to get it fixed for inspection. Have to replace seat bottom, almost $700 for seat alone. This is dangerous and unfair. Subaru acknowledged the problem by giving me $500 goodwill repair certificate, but not full price of repair even though this has been recalled in many other vehicles.

6/1/2018-driving from kc to st. Louis-drove 1.25 hours-stopped for break-drove another 1.5 hours and air bag light came on unprovoked.turn car off and back on fixed.return trip 6/3/2018 from st. Louis to kc - same scenario-drove approx 2.5 hours-stopped - drove additional 1 hour and air bag light came on.turn car off and on and is off currently.was driving around 70 mph when both instances occurred.
While driving with a passenger in the front seat, the srs warning light came on and indicated that the passenger side airbag was off.i pulled over, turned the engine off and restarted the car.the srs light was off, passenger side airbag was on.several miles later, the condition repeated itself.repeated this process two more times with the srs warning light coming on again both times.i asked my passenger to transfer to the rear seat.the srs warning light did not go on anymore.it has been two days since the incident and the srs light has not come on even with a front seat passenger.this had happened the first time approximately two weeks ago but i thought nothing of it when the condition corrected itself after turning the engine off and turning it back on.
Sometimes while i'm driving and when a person is in the passenger seat the air bag randomly turns off. Also twice the seat belt alarm has sounded while i'm driving and non one is in the passenger seat. I had the issue checked out at the dealer today and the sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced at a $800 plus cost to me. I understand this is the same sensor that was recalled on the 2012 models.
There is a recall for other 2012 imprezas for this exact problem, but my car, which i believe has the same sensors as the recalled ones for the 2012 impreza, is not covered by the recall.i do not think that i should have to pay for a repair of something that is a known, widespread issue among subaru imprezas. I think that my car should be repaired under this recall. This problem is alarming, given that the air bag may not function properly if the car was involved in an accident.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact stated that the occupant detection system malfunctioned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v419000 (air bags). The contact experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 30,000.
The passenger seat sensor that controls airbag is faulty.sometimes with a passenger in the seat, the airbag light will go on indicating that the airbag is disabled even though passenger is in seat and belted.this can always be reset by turning igniotion off and on again.also sensor incorrectly thinks there is a passenger in the seat even when very light packages or groceries are on the seat weighing 2-12 pounds. I've called subaru and they claim sensor is set to 27 punds or more, which is clearly not working here.subaru will not fix this under warranty so i think nhtsa should look at all the similar complaints here and investigate.
After cleaning front seats with upholstery cleaner and seats damp air bag light red comes on also shows passenger air bag as off even though someone in seat.happens ifcar stationary or moving.
*dt

The wire harness for the blower motor switch melted and created a dangerous fire hazard.the wire harness and blower motor switch has to be replaced due to the condition.
Tail lights don't turn on , first time the whole electrical harness was burned out , dealer changed the whole thing , this is second time tail lighting is completely off when the switch is on , i am afraid it will burn out the whole harness again !
When car is put into park the key cannon be removed from the ignition.it's an ongoing intermittent problem.this is a defect in design and subaru should pay for all repairs.this has happened about 20 times now.car cannot be trusted.

Vehicle has had multiple incidents of not starting, engine losing power, extended engine cranking and other electrical issues for what was unknown reasons, documented in numerous dealer reports. Was informed that the issue is due to oil leaking from oil control valve (ocv) leaking into wiring harness. Vehicle has had issues when in motion, before running and while trying to start.
Cannot remove the key from ignition , takes severalattempts of turning the steeringwheel before the key can be removed ,also car will not start must attempt to move steering wheel and hope that it starts
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact stated while having the vehicle inspected at a local mechanic, the mechanic informed the contact that the wiring harness between the fan motor and climate control fan speed switch burned out and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.*dt

Key gets stuck in ignition and cannot be removed when in park.this is a know issue and documented in service bulletin 16-112-18r.
The wire harness for the blower motor switch melted and created a dangerous fire hazard. The wire harness and blower motor switch has to be replaced due to the condition. They now have to replace the whole wire harness.
Warning lamps for stability control air bag randomly light up on my dash board panel. The passenger air bag will also switch to off even when a passer is sitting in the seat or the passenger seat belt warning sound will go off if a small object is placed on the seat.
Vehicle has known defect where the oil control valves on front of engine fail and leak oil onto main wiring harness. The defect manifests itself in electrical shorts, lighting failure, engine not being able to be started, engine function failing while in use, battery failure due to short circuit created among other issues impacting starting, running, safe useage and potential dangerous failure while operating vehicle. Previous complaint logged, no evidence that problem is being investigated - although manufacturer has acknowleged knowledge of issue by issuing a service bulletin.
Passenger air bag red dash light remains on weather in motion or stationary with a passengeror without.amber air bag center dash light remains "off" in motion or sationary with or without a passenger in the seat. Turning the car on or off does not change the issue. Car has 112,000 miles.
My car is having the same exact behavior described in a recall for the 2012 model year (nhtsa campaign number 15v419000, subaru recall number wqt-55). My car is not covered by the recall, but it seems like it should be since my problem appears to be identical to that which is described.
Lights continue to burn out (main headlights, brake lights) with frequency (every 6 months). Moreover, once one burns out, the second light tends to burn out the next day. Have replaced the headlights 5 times in the past two years, even buying high quality replacement bulbs.
Subaru service bulletin 16-112-18rkey stuck in ignition. Have to keep putting transmission into park in order to get key out. Known issue but no recall.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. When attempting to remove the vehicle from the ignition, the contact had to use more force than normal. The failure caused the key to bend. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
2013 subaru impreza. Consumer writes in regards to engineering defect. *ldthe consumer stated that the vehicle attracts rodents that chew through the wiring. The manufacturer was contacted and denied any responsibility. The vehicle was not repaired.
On 07/08/2019 i took my subaru impreza to a local dealership to have recalls wue90 and wty84 competed. It now seems that whatever work was done to satisfy the recalls has been causing the car to malfunction.the recall service was completed on 07/09, and i picked it up that day. Beginning on 07/10, however, the check engine and vehicle dynamics control warning lights started coming on intermittently. So far, these warning lights have displayed for a portion, or for the entirety, of 22 of the past 32 days. Both lights (check engine and vdc) have displayed together every time, and are usually on or off when the vehicle is started. When the lights are on, the cruise control does not function and i have noticed a significant (-21.6%) decrease from my average gas mileage. On four occasions that i am able to recall, the warning lights also came on under braking (i.e. They were off when i started the car and then turned on at some point during my trip when i pressed the brakes).whether the warning lights are on or off, i have no way of knowing what isn't working (other than the cruise control as i mentioned). I have taken the vehicle back to subaru twice to try to resolve the issue: first on 07/10 and then on 08/07. They scanned the codes, did some work on it, and gave the car back to me, claiming that it was fixed. The one thing they are failing to consider is that the problem may actually be related to the service performed to complete the recalls because i've never had an issue with the vdc since i bought the car almost six years ago, and i don't believe the check engine light has come on during that period either. At this point, i don't even know if the car is safe to drive.attachment: photo of warning lights after leaving the camelback subaru (phoenix, az) service shop on 08/07/2019.
Brake failure at low speed coming to stop at traffic light, traction control light came on,brake light came on and check engine light on. Returned to dealer to repair. Dealer took 2 days to repair . At witch it lasted till today(12/30/2013). The same thing has happened again. Very scary you wonder if the car is reliable and always afraid to travel now. Have grandchildren and cannot trust this car. I hope someone can help. Have to return to dealer (again) to have them look at it (again). Wonder if they know how to fix it.
Tail lights don't turn on , first time the whole electrical harness was burned out , dealer changed the whole thing , this is second time tail lighting is completely off when the switch is on , i am afraid it will burn out the whole harness again !
The brake sensor switch fails to report position of the brake and turns off anti locking breaking system. If fails you car turning the car apply brake and the following lights turn on. Hill assist, abs, skid control. When this comes on abs does not work. It sometimes locks the car in park.this happen then tried to stop quickly in the rain and braking system did not work correctly. Rear-ended a car. Reported this to a dealer year ago they did not know what caused it. I found it quickly when searching the web. Common issue that could be deadly.
Oil drips from gasket on too hot part of engine causing a serious fire hazardthis has not happened to our vehicle yet but we were informed by our mechanic that there's a possibility that this could be a problem if not repairedhave any incidents of this nature on subarus been recorded to this day?
I received an 'important safety recall' notice regarding my vehicle's engine issue that needs to be resolved. Per the instructions on the notice, i called my local dealer to schedule an appointment. Despite the stressed importance of the safety issues regarding this recall in the letter received via mail, the person at the dealership seemed to have no real concern or care for my vehicle's or personal safety, and told me i could go on a waitlist for the next few months as they wait for the parts to come in. I tried discussing my dissatisfaction, worry, and upset with the person at subaru, but all she said was that i had to wait. So i added my name to the waitlist, and contacted subaru directly, per the letter's instructions. Same answer from subaru, claiming that they cannot repair my vehicle because not one single dealership has the parts to do so. I reiterated that this mean i had to hope my car wouldn't have an issue resulting in my personal safety or injury, and they agreed that yes, that's all i can do. Absolutely ridiculous! if there is something dangerous enough about my vehicle that there is a nationwide recall, why is it that there is no rush to get these parts in to service those who have received your 'important safety recall' which states that 'you should immediately contact your subaru retailer for an appointment to have this important repair preformed' as it is in regards to a 'defect' in the engine of the vehicle that transports me and my family daily. Absolutely not okay. Good on subaru for notifying me, but absolutely not okay to have us wait months for a repair on an engine defect and instruct us to just 'hope nothing happens' in the meantime.
Recall work to replace the valve springs was performed may 13th. Check engine light came on may 14th. Less than 500 miles and one month later it threw a piston rod and blew the engine.
I was driving and the cruise control light started blinking, the check engine light came on, and the traction control light came on.https://youtu.be/zujiggdqq5e
Car consumes oil excessively.every 3000 miles i need a quart of oil.it's ridiculous.this has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the car.
Driving along and started making bad noise from motor.lost power.the same thing happened about 2 yrs ago wiyh around 52000 miles on it.then subaru fixed it.this time they are using all sorts of excuses.to get out of fixing it unless i pay an undefined amount. ..just as last time i had all my maintenance logged.that isnt in question but bec there are heat shields that were rattling i just took off and some bolts i replaced like when i put a new exhaust flange gasket.they want to get out of it by saying it looks as if it could have had performance products on it.
There have been repeated and reoccurring issues related to oil consumption as well as a faulty cvt transmission. Subaru has issued an extended 100,000 mile warranty, but this information was not provided directly to me. I found out about the extended warranty when i took the car in to a mechanic and they had knowledge of the extended warranty. The mechanic recommended i take it to a subaru service center to try and get it covered under warranty. The car had 94,000 miles at the time i was made aware of this on 6/22/18. Since 6/22/18-11/2/19, i have repeatedly had reoccurring issues with both oil consumption and the cvt transmission. The service department has claimed to have repaired issues, but i have never had resolve of any of them. Instead i feel as though i have been told each item has been repaired. If similar issues have occurred, like the oil light illuminating after the short block replacement, i been given the explanation that it is due to software issues that need updating. These excuses have been given repeatedly until the 12 month warranty of the parts in question has then passed. This same thing has occurred with the slipping cvt transmission that i reported on 6/22/18, and now i am being told the transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $8,000 out of pocket. The car is not even valued at $8,000 anymore. I would strongly advise research into these faulty parts and the consumer deceit that has occurred to myself and millions of other subaru owners. Deceiving consumers until extended warranty periods pass, and requiring consumers to pay out of pocket should be illegal. I see now why subaru opted for this extended warranty for both of these issues rather than admitting fault and providing a recall. This allows the deceit and subaru taking financial responsibility of repairs to occur by looping in the service department into this scam. Do not buysubaru
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v772000 (engine and engine cooling). Napleton's arlington heights subaru (1555 east rand rd, arlington heights, il 60004, 847-255-5700) was contacted and confirmed that parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
After 7 weeks and multiple cosmetic attempts to repair the damage they did to my car i am still driving an unsafe car that smells of gas. All of this occurring after a faulty recall repair (that they do not deny) that nearly caused a multi car crash on rt495. What i want from patrick motors/ subaru of america: i want my car repaired as soon as possible to the satisfaction that the car is not dangerous to drive. Can you help me!
I have had a problem with the car burning oil since i bought the car. My oil light comes on after every 1000.00 miles and it is down at least a quart and a half each time . I change the oil every 3000 miles but i still have to put oil in in between. I ordered this car from a dealership rt from the factory. The oil consumption has been a problem since day one. I have brought it to the dealerships over 5-7 times. They will not acknowledge the problem .
I was driving into work in the morning and as i entered the parking area i noticed my oil light come on. I parked the car and checked the oil, and to my surprise there was nothing on the stick. I had just changed the oil less than 2000 miles prior to this and i was concerned. I proceeded to check for leaks and found none. I took the car in to the dealer and was informed that my engine is a quart low on motor oil (0w20), and that this is normal because 2.0i fb engines burn a quart of oil every 1200 miles at the most. This is absurd, i am a former ase certified mechanic and this was not something i thought to be normal. This cars is rated to go 7500 miles between oil changes, and if i am burning a qrt of oil every 1200 mile then i am essentially changing the oil in between oil changes. To call this a common/normal occurrence is like saying that they care nothing about there customers. The dealer essentially toped off my oil, put a sticker in the window and said in 1200 mile come back and we will start an oil consumption test, but not at the cost of the dealer or subaru. This initial cost would be charged to me the customer at a cost of almost $100.00 dollars which i find ridiculous since the car is under warranty and this is a diagnostic of a failure not a normal oil change.when i contacted subaru of north america i still got the run around, and i feel as if they are hiding the fact that they have a whole fleet of vehicles out on the road ready to blow engines and they are going to do the same thing they did in the past with the 2.5 and blame the customer.
Subaru - the valve springs located inside of engine.called two weeks ago for the parts and called again if the local repair shop knows when the part will be coming in.they had no idea. Called subaru recall center.they have no idea how the parts are handled and how many are ready to shipped out for the repair shops.

Valve spring recallsubaru dealership "fixed" my car due to this recall back in february 2019, according to manufacturers procedure. This included adding oil and also coolant to my vehicle. It was returned to me as soon as it was completed (took 4 days approx.)however, recently, the week of the 20th of may 2019, that is about 3 months after the "repair" done for the recall, my engine stalled while i was driving on the road. Fortunately i was close to home and after struggling it turned on and i drove it home. Had to tow it to the dealership to get it fixed again.i am afraid the issue with the engine, is far more serious, and subaru is not acknowledging the issue as they should. Stalling in the middle of the road can be extremely dangerous.this needs to be fixed in a better matter.to which i think, all affected vehicles with this serious issue, need a new engine.

First at 10,496 then at approximately 17,163; 19,031; and 21,182 miles the low oil light illuminated in my car. Between 19,031 and 21,182 miles i added approximately 4.0 quarts of oil to my engine. This oil consumption is excessive.
While traveling on the highway (i-79 in pa, just south of exit #68 mount nebo road), my engine lost power.i was traveling in a straight line at the time.i had it towed to a subaru dealership which confirmed it had seized. *dt added cspcshortly before this, i had received notice that i am a member of a class action settlement concerning subaru connecting rod bearings and main bearings.my car is a 2013 wrx, and wrx engines made between 2012 and 2017 are in the class.the dealership informed that although they had not yet inspected the engine to determine the cause, they guessed the cause was a turbo failure: which happens to be excluded from the settlement.("guess" was the service manager's word, not mine.)i was further informed by this same service manager of my local dealer that a full engine inspection is required in order to determine the cause - which means it will cost me close to $900 for subaru to determine whether or not they will cover my repairs under the settlement.milage at the time of the engine failure was approximately 46,500 miles.
Received a notice about safety recall (nhtsa id 18v-722) involving risk of valve spring failure that could lead to engine stalling and risk of crash. Called our local subaru dealership in golden, co to have the issue resolved. Was told that the earliest that they could get to it would be may of 2020 (15 months). "too many cars are being recalled at the same time. 150 ahead of us in the queue for this repair." this translates to only 10 recall repairs performed per month. Said that they hope to move us earlier, but no promises were made. No comment about their liability should the failure occur during this over-one-year timeframe while waiting for this safety recall to be performed.

My wife and i were driving from california to colorado last saturday, and our car stopped running halfway across utah. A valve spring blew a hole in our ignition and we had to get our vehicle towed 50 miles to the nearest car shop. My wife later found out that their was a recall on the vehicle for that exact same issue. I contacted subaru this morning about the recall and they said that i would have to get it towed to the nearest subaru dealership to get assistance. Moreover they stated that because of my high milage it will depend whether or not they provide some coverage for the damages. My wife and i purchased the vehicle last year from heuberger motors, and were never informed about the recall. The vehicle is currently still being held by the towing company in utah, furthermore i'm currently stationed in fort carson colorado about 600 miles away.
When i listed my vin number my car did not show up as being recalled for the subaru valve spring recall. My five door impreza has a build date of 06-2013. The recall goes thru june 13 of 2013. Nhtsa campaign number: 18v772000 i don't know the day my vehicle was manufactured and i don't know how to determine the day. However i do know mine was equipped with the weak springs. While my car was still under warranty i had a valve spring break while driven at approximately 50 mph on the hwy allowing the valve to travel into the cylinder. This destroyed one head and the piston. Also scratching the cylinder wall. This required the replacement of the short block assembly and one head.now i still have one original head and one replacement head that i don't know the build date on. I think the recall should be expanded to cover cars built later than june 13 2013.
2 belts came apart at 65k miles & were replaced on 4/14/2018. Then again not even month after on 5/19/2018 2 belts were replaced again at 66k miles, and 3rd time on 8/18/2019 at 94k same 2 beltscame apart and this time ruined radiator, engine and many other parts in the vehicle (vehicle would need to be taken apart to determine the damages) waiting to hear back from subaru's asking to fix the vehicle st ubarus expense.

The dealer researched the vehicle in their system and informed the contact that they could not perform the recall repairs because the vehicle had a salvage title. The dealer further stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and that the contact may have been ripped off when purchasing the vehicle. The contact stated that the dealer from where the vehicle was purchased (auto sales ct, 1320 wolcott rd, wolcott, ct 06716, (203) 441-4911) did not disclose that the vehicle was salvaged. I initially called my local dealer to fix the recall (engine valve malfunction) on january 18, 2019. They soonest available date to schedule the repair was today, may 13, 2019 citing a back order on parts. Almost 5 months later. Attached is the screenshot of the day i made the phone call. They also indicated in the phone call when i made the appointment that the repair would not take long and i would have my car back the next day. Today, they tell me that they will likely have my car for about a month because they are backlogged and the amount of work involved is "more than anyone anticipated." i feel that nearly 6 months cannot be considered a "reasonable amount of time."

I received notification of 2 safety recalls for my vehicle:subaru recall wty-84 (nhtsa id 18v-772) and subaru safety recall wue-90 (nhtsa recall id 19v-149.)i purchased my car on the island of o'ahu and live on the island of moloka'i.servco subaru will not pay for my car to be shipped by barge for repairs.since the valve springs affected are a defect in the engine upon manufacture, i feel that i should receive reimbursement for the cost of shipping.my budget is tight and this will be a hardship.
Cannot get dealer (carter subaru in ballard) to schedule repairs for recall wty-84 (nhtsa id 18v-772). A month ago they said they'd get back to me in a few days. Now they don't respond to voicemail or email messages.

High rpm when starting car in cold weather. When engine warms up rpms return to normal. Choke issue? it's been this way since new.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of engine power without warning. The contact was able to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine was defective and needed to be replaced. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
Was driving on i-70 in colorado going 60-65 mph uphill when all indicator lights came on and at (automatic transition) oil temp light began flashing. Check engine, hill assist, abs, and traction control lights all came on steady on. Had to pull over and had significant power loss during driving. Googled what at oil temp light meant and called a tow truck to take to my mechanic. Mechanic initially indicated it could be valve body problem which in his words is a "known issue with subaru cvt engines." code pulled was p2764. They ended up pulling the pan and draining fluid and found excessive metal built up on magnet in pan. This pan and headgasket were repaired less than 6k miles ago (october 2020) and at that time they said everything was in good shape so something drastic happened to cvt in less than a year. Mechanic unable to say what caused the excessive buildup in that time. Safety compromised as left on side of very busy highway waiting for tow - we were also concerned with whether or not car would overheat/catch on fire due to at oil being over 200 degrees. Problem confirmed by our mechanic and indicated that we need a full transmission replacement. No other warnings prior to this event. Maintenance is current and in 2018 performed recall service indicated by subaru for valve spring issue.
Vehicle will not start after an extended period of attempts.appears to happen most often when vehicle is parked (either indoors or outside) for more than several hours.car will crank over for 10+ seconds and will not start.after multiple attempts, car has started eventually.have communicated with dealer and sia offices that i have noticed the car will make whirring noises that come from the back rh side of vehicle - and also a clicking noise near center of dash when turned off and sitting.this will go on for over 5 minutes at a time, which must drain battery since car is not turned on or engine running.was told by dealer that this is the emission system "purging" itself - and is considered normal for this vehicle.sia offices confirmed this and also stated that nothing is noted in the current owners manual which explains this feature.my concern is that the car is unable to start when required to - and am guessing that it might be related to this unusual feature... .regardless of origin, safety issue with car not starting and being ready to operate when normal starting procedures are followed.
Factory recall for a valve spring and brake lamp switch replacement was completed on sept.25, 2019.the car engine caught on fire while i was driving on october 18, 2019. I was stopped at a red light on a city street. The police and fire departments were called to put out the flames.the fire marshal was present to document and take photos. My car was towed.i understand this has happened to cars involved in the recall.
Excessive oil consumption.vehicle needs to have entire oil reservoir refilled every 3 or so days. When on highway, vehicles seizes up. The car slows way down by itself and the hill assist indicator light comes on as well as the check engine light.it loses control and the car starts shaking.i have seen too many people with this same exact issue and subaru refuses to help. This is an ongoing subaru problem and should be recalled!
Mikes garage in goshen did my inspection in oct. Inspecting my car he let me know i needed a serpentine belt because it was cracked and would most likely last 3 months. On nov 29th i drove home from chester and the car broke down. On nov 30th i towed it to the mechanic and i rented a car. He told me it was the belt issue and i needed an oil change. Car was ready for pickup on 12/3. On 12/8 the car broke down in middletown and it was towed to subaru. On 12/10 subaru told me that the car diagnosis was a blown engine due to no oil. If i wanted to have it completely checked they would charge 1000 to take it apart and properly diagnosis it. I gave them the ok to do so. On 12/17 i went to mikes garage and showed him the estimate from subaru and asked him what was going to be done on his part. He said he had cameras to see the proper oil change and what was supposed to be reliable for my engine since he did what was supposed to be done. He told me about the recall on my car and that i should look into it. Week of the 17th of december i called subaru and a case was opened for me. She called me back on december 27thher name was ms.quinn and said they couldn't do anything for me because i had taken it to this outside mechanic. They offered me a 500 coupon towards a brand new car. Lol!the first week of jan i reached out tosubaru again to speak to a mgr. After reviewing the case and reaching out to subaru he stated that he could not assist because the engine had failed due to no oil per subaru. He also stated that the recalled part was not broken in my subaru. At this point i had already spoken to mike who stated he had an engine for me to place in car for 500. I gave him the ok out of desperation. Mike in goshen called feb 1st to let me know car was done we picked it up on saturday the 9th and on tuesday the 12th the car had leaking fluids and currently is not drive-able.
Subaru recall from october 2018.the car is starting to stall while driving.subaru is now telling me that i have to wait until late may to have my car repaired.this is unsafe and is my only vehicle for work. During driving on the expressway between 30 and 60mph or on city streets between 20-30pmh, the car just slows way down by itself and the hill start/assist warning light keeps coming on and periodically the vehicle dynamics control light also comes on. These issues have been ongoing and periodic but more and more frequent since december 2018.
Vechile burning oil at a rateof a quart every1500 miles, subaru stated that this is normal, mechanics told me this is not normal..i have had old clunkers with high millage that did not burn this much oil.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. While driving approximately 60-65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, there was no forward momentum. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but a fault code was unable to be retrieved. Previously, the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 18v772000 (engine and engine cooling). Gurley leep subaru (5302 grape rd, suite #2, mishawaka, in 46545, (574) 258-7700) was contacted by phone and an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. Ever since the vehicle was purchased, it started to consume an extreme amount of oil, more than approximately a quarter every 1,200 miles. At approximately 5,500 miles, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil and a test needed to be performed at 30,000 miles. Per the dealer, the vehicle had to be taken every 1,200 miles for an oil consumption test. After the seventh test, it was determined by the dealer that the small block needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.
After 3,000-5,000 miles engine oil light came on.i went to a mechanic and they said it was down 1 quart of oil.i asked surprisingly, " how can this be?"" i just had my oil changed and it's a new car."after adding a quart (and keeping an eye on) the same thing happened again 3,000 miles after my next oil change.this can't be right.i have never owned a car that burns that much oil, unless there is a problem.i believe that this is the case, and subaru iscovering their tail by stating that its normal for the automobile to "consume" that amount of oil." just look in your users manual."i don't believe so.i think they need to address this issue if they are to continue claiming customer satisfaction.i am one who is far from it!
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 18v772000 (engine and engine cooling). A loaner vehicle was not offered. The manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

I have had my 2013 subaru impreza for about a year when i started enduring multiple visits to the dealer for low oil. I am being told by the service manager that my oil issue is normal. I have never owned a brand new vehicle that had to be take to the dealer as much as my subaru. I am having my oil changes done every 3-4 months and having to take it in 1-2 times in between to have oil added. Every time i show up for the oil consumption test i am about 1-1/2 qts low on oil. I purchased a subaru because they talked about how efficient and reliable they are. Now, i was told that i just need to carry oil in my car at all times. I could understand if this was a used car off of a lot, this was not. This has been the biggest pain of a car and i will be trading it in and never buying another subaru.
The car broke down nov. 2018 while my wife was driving on interstate highway. Dealer replacedvalve body. Car was using a lot of oil between changes. When asked about it, dealer service dept said "just keep adding oil."car started putting out blue cloud from exhaust when started. Asked dealer service dept, they said "subarus do that. Just keep adding oil."had recall work done march 2019: valve spring replacement. Again asked about oil consumption. Service dept. Recommended adding oil between oil changes.labor day 2019 car broke down again with same dash indicators flashing as in nov. 2018.car was in drive and moving forward at 35 miles per hour on a city street 150 miles from home.dealer service dept said timing chain had jumped, engine failed. According to dealer service department, engine had excessive oil consumption, and said "engine is oil deprived." car now needs a new engine.dealer had promised to fix if issue from 2018 returned. The dealer did not honor the promise.

Received recall notice on faulty valve springs and was told by dealer it would be at least one year before they could make the repair. This timeframe is unacceptable considering the risk of engine malfunction i am assuming while waiting. Why would you allow manufacturers to push out critical safety repairs that far out?????

Subaru issued a safety recall in december of 2018, on january 14 2019 i contacted heuberger subaru of colorado springs co. About this recall and was told that the part had to be ordered, and that it would take approximately 2 weeks for the part to come in. It is now february 18 2019 and i have yet to be contacted by the dealership about this recall. When trying to reach the service department it always goes to voice mail. On the 18th of february i contacted subaru about this and was advised that a subaru dealer approximately 40 miles from home had the parts, but it would be june of 2019 before i could get an appointment.how long is it going to take to have this recall addressed

Recall #18v-772, valve spring repair. On may 9, 2019 roger's subaru performed recall work on my 2013 impreza. Now my engine makes a loud knocking noise. This noise happens when driving & when stationary.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated as the traction control independently disengaged while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The dealer found certain spider species had crawled into the fuel system, creating a web that caused the engine light to illuminate and the traction control to fail. The fuel system was cleaned. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 3,200.. Updated 03/12/14*lj

The failure mileage was 70,215.

Tail lights don't turn on , first time the whole electrical harness was burned out , dealer changed the whole thing , this is second time tail lighting is completely off when the switch is on , i am afraid it will burn out the whole harness again !

This complaint relates to the following recall:manufacturer recall number:wty84nhtsa recall number:18v772000the dealer in colorado springs, co, heuberger motors, has failed to remedy this safety recall in a timely manner.i called on january 17th, 2019 to schedule the work but as of today, april 23, 2019, they have not done so.they claim that "it's just a slow process".i find this unacceptable for a safety recall.
Car was parked directly in front of residential garage. I started the car to pull it into the garage. As soon as i put the car in drive, with my foot still on the brake, it shot forward at full speed and crashed into a trailer at the back of the garage. The impact from the trailer broke a hole in the garage wall. Total distance traveled was about 25'.
My cars break lights are not working. My car will lose power on the road to where it will completely die and i have to turn the ignition off and turn it back on to keep going. My emergency brake light is on my tire sensor lights are on even though tire pressure is correct there are times when i cannot get my car into gear. It will make a very loud clunking noise and then a whizzing noise when you turn the air conditioner on and then you get no power at all to the car. I cannot go up a steep hill on the highway because it will only go up to 35 miles an hour. When it loses power on the highway and i have to the restart the car that's very dangerous.
While going 65 mph on the highway the continuous variable transmission locked up, gas pedal became unresponsive, and the car had to be towed to the dealership. I am thankful that a car was not tailing behind me and that i was not driving during commute hours. Traction assist, hill assist, and check engine at oil temp light came on. At 97,000 miles on the odometer, the dealership said it was transmission failure. Parts in the transmission were replaced; however, due to the nature of the failure and the potential for bodily harm and harm to property, these transmissions should be recalled and replaced as a unit. For a car that has had regular maintenance and that has not driven in severe conditions, it was surprising that a transmission failure should occur at this mileage. While the extended warranty from subaru shows good faith, it does very little to protect the safety of subaru drivers. It is reckless and abhorrent for subaru to be aware of the safety problem and to do nothing to mitigate it.
Diagnosing the check engine light reveals code p2764, which indicates the transmission control valve body needs to be replaced due to a faulty solenoid. This is a known issue with subaru's cvt transmission, which is why subaru extended the warranty for this issue. However, the warranty only covers vehicles with a demonstrable problem. My car just developed the problem, and is no longer covered by the warranty (23,000 miles over the limit). This is a potentially dangerous issue (affected cars may stall at any time), which affects many vehicles still on the road. Subaru should have to replace all of the parts before they fail! you should already have a number of other complaints about this issue.
Was traveling normally and suddenly car abruptly stopped with engine running.
On august 14, 2017, while on the highway driving at 65 miles per hour, the engine began to swiftly shift down and completely seized, causing me to have to pull over on the left shoulder.this was about one week after our original transmission was replaced for free (they extended the warranty but didn't issue a recall- why? they told us that they were having problems with 2010 and 2013 impreza transmissions but we had to ask them about a funny sound, no one notified us). The car is now waiting for another new transmission but it must be a big problem because 2 weeks later the transmissions are still on backorder.
Takata recall: please note shift level gear control locks when car is turned on, in park, foot on brake. The traction control sensors, emergency brake sensors, and hill sensors turn on when this happens. The gear locks and the car will not turn on or off completely when these sensors are on. It will only turn off when the brake has been applied for so long. This has happened on numerous occasions and places, parking lots, driveways, and in areas when changing gears needs to occur and simple will not
Was at a red light, stopped.light turned green started to go, went to shift into 2nd gear and heard a loud pop and the car wouldn't go any more. Had it towed to gerald jones subaru dealer, where i bought it.was told it was driver error and the clutch went out.an independent mechanic said he's seen it plenty of times in the wrx going back to 2008 and that subaru has defective welds on the vehicles' firewall, which results in clutch and/or brake failure.
The problem i am about to describe has been intermittent for the past 3 years but recently has become consistent.the dealership has been unable to duplicate/locate the malfunction up until now.i would like to add that the concern was apparent while the vehicle was still under warranty.when driving the vehicle the transmission bucks and thumps with unreliable acceleration and a feeling of being pushed forward.after a mile or 2, the check engine light turn on, abs, traction and hill stop assist lights all turn on at which time the vehicle's performance is noticeably reduced especially at highway speeds.the engine rpm seems much higher and fuel mileage becomes terribly reduced.a diagnostic trouble code of p2764 sets in the transmission and the safety braking/stability systems become disabled.if what i researched this is a horribly common problem.my vehicle is out of warranty (even the extended warranty subaru offered).the dealership wants $1700 to repair this malfunction which has been diagnosed as a cvt transmission valve controller malfunction.it is my opinion that this malfunction should be recalled rather than a simple warranty extension especially considering the fact that the safety/stability systems become disabled and the vehicle's emissions/fuel mileage is dramatically effected.
You can google the thousands of cases of people who have the same issue i'm describing. Seems to be all models of impreza wrx 08+. I have a graduate poping from my clutch pedal that gradually got loader and louder and louder. Now i can hear squeaking or creeking outside the vehicle when the clutch is depressed and the pedal pops pretty good you can feel on your foot now. My clutch petal feels real spongy. After doing some research on the problem and it's broken spot welds in the firewall holding the clutch assembly in place noticeably effecting the vehicle since 20,000 miles!! at times my clutch cable has gotten so loose and spongy feeling it feels as if it has troubles going into gear at times making it a serious issue that could effect ones power train in the most severe cases by enabling the vehicle to be put into gear properly. This has been an issue by thousands of people i don't know how or why there is any question on a recall. Why should i half to pay for 3-4 hours of labor to fix this manufactures defect i mean it's snapped welds hidden within the inside of a firewall completely no question a manufactor deffect. Thank you.
Hello,it has come time where my loyal subaru has had it's firewall spot welds snap off and my firewall moves about 3 inches everytime i engaged the clutch or brakes. I reached out to subaru of america where they had me get an estimate of 1750 dollars. When i sent them the invoice the best they would cover is 750 dollars of it. This issue is a severe safety concern on behalf of my life and the company acted in bad faith towards it's customer.the car had never been beat on or abused and from just simply driving the car on a normal basis created this issue. At the time this happened i wasn't aware of the what was at stake. I researched the numerous people filing class action lawsuits since more than a third of the production third gen wrxs were probed to this faulty firewall welds. Subaru has been well aware of this and knew that this could happen or when i emailed they would have argued against it but just instantly offered a portion of it. In the best interest of my safety i feel it's necessary for subaru to pay the entire portion of the bill to ensure my life will be safe in their car. If there's anything that you could do to help me that would be much appreciated.thanks for your time, jeremy.
Cvt failing which is a common issue with the a/t.i feel it can lead to a serious safety issue as i travel far and frequently. I will not allow my children to ride in the vehicle as this should be recalled and replaced or repaired.
Faint whirring noise noted, no other problems- no change to performance, no warning lights indicating problem but when brought to dealership for a check told transmission needed replacement $ 7902.88never had any problems with this car previously, had routine oil changes (although one time within the first year oil light came on indicating oil was low but it was only 1500 miles from last oil change- brought in and had that taken care of), this car has never been in an accident either. I am perplexed by the need for a new transmission when it is a 2013 and has no issues other than what was stated here. I still own $9200 on it. It has just under 74,000 miles on it ( highway commute).
Automatic transmission completely failed at 79106 miles. Vehicle was in motion

Passenger side seat belt locked in retracted position.
I just replaced the front passenger seat belt for reverse lock (unable to pull out) for the second time. No other belts are affected. Parked the car unhooked the belt. Upon returning the belt would not pull out. Which of course requires the passenger to not be restrained. The first time this happened i assumed the belt was worn out, or manufacturing defect. It was out of warranty so i replaced it myself. The replacement lasted about two years. Now i have to believe there is a defect in the system somewhere.
Front passenger seatbelt grabs frequently, hitting my wife in her neck or near it.subaru dealer said it is okay. Occurs when i brake the car or go around corners.usually, my own belt is not grabbing at these times.
The passenger air-bag on light illuminated and the fasten seatbelt warning sound was sounded even though there was nothing in the passenger seat. This has happened multiple times, the most recent at 21,793 miles.
Passenger seat belt warning goes off if more than 1 pound is placed on the seat, all conditions.
On a hot, long drive with a sweaty friend in the front passenger seat, the passenger airbag turned off according to the dash indicator. The airbag error indicator also turned on. It was a long, highway drive and outdoor temperatures were 80-100f, though i was running ac inside.

As soon as i put the car in drive, with my foot still on the brake, it shot forward at full speed and crashed into a trailer at the back of the garage. The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact was involved in two crashes in 2013. For both crashes, while the contact attempted to stop the vehicle in traffic, it unexpectedly accelerated and rear ended the preceding vehicle. A police report was filed in both cases. The contact was not injured. The air bags did not deploy in either crash. The vehicle was driving 35 mph and towed after the first crash. The contact suspected that she was sold a vehicle with multiple failures in 2013. The contact found out that someone bought the vehicle and returned it prior to it being purchased by the contact. The contact thought the vehicle was brand new. The vehicle was purchased from autonation subaru west (16351 w colfax ave, golden, co 80401, (303) 578-6120). The failure mileage was 2,000.
The contact owns a 2013 subara impreza. The contact was driving 30 mph, the contact stated that the brakes failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where master cylinder was replaced however the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
On friday july 23, 2021 my 1013 subaru impressa experienced a failure of the hydraulic braking system, exhibited by the brake warning light and loss of braking ability.fortunately i was able to safely get to the subaru dealer (bath subaru in woolwich, maine) where they determined that the problem was corrosion of the 4 way joint connector which is totally exposed (no cover or protective shield).this is a particular hazard on my car because both hydraulic braking circuits pass through through this connector.currently the dealer is preparing and estimate for repair but i am concerned that this issue is a design defect and serious safety hazard that should have been subject to recall.i have since noted thata june 27, 2014 letter from subaru to the nhtsa (ref no.: gr14-042) identified this exact issue in many of the other subaru models manufactured between 2005 and 2014.from my comparison of the descriptions and photos shown in the referenced letter, i believe that my car has the same identified defect and should also have been subject to this recall and the exclusion of my car from the original recall was an oversight.i am hopeful that subaru will stand behind their product, provide a timely repair and provide assurance that the underlying cause has been corrected.
In an outside parking lot with parking blocks started the car and moved forward toward and over the parking block at starting speed. The car leaped forward and lost braking power, with the brake pedal going to the floor. Car leaped ahead across the asphalt road to next parking row on gravel with driver turning right, to avoid a pole and standing cars ahead, and non-accelerating steady-speed movement continued over several parking blocks on gravel without ability for the driver to stop using brake pedal.the car could not be stopped, with brakes dropping, even when back on asphalt road. Movement only stopped when shift put in parking position. In total the braking power was lost for at least 5 seconds. The trigger for evidenced brake disfunction was low-speed front-wheel collision with the concrete below-bumper parking block, or pressing the brake pedal when going over the block, or a combination of these and possibly other factors.dealer stated no brake failure, no fluid leak, no error codes. Driver hold responsible for the > $2400 cost to replace damaged exhaust system and scratched driver-side front wheel. However, most of the damage was caused not by the initial collision with the parking block, but the subsequent uncontrollable movement over several (4-6) parking blocks due to loss of brake pedal function. Had there been people, cars or bigger objects ahead of the car, the accident could have caused serious injury or extensive property damage. The height of the parking block was just slightly higher than the height of a standard speed bump. We encourage investigation on subaru impreza 2013 brake and abs function when braking over speed bumps, curbs and other low obstacles or following a low-speed, low-obstacle front-wheel collision.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but hesitated to respond causing a 3-feet stopping distance delay. The contact also stated that the brake pedal was vibrating and would rest on the floorboard when depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the front brake rotors, brake pads, and calipers needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that no issues were found. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The abs warning light and the traction control warning light were illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
Driving up a slight grade into home garage i depressed the accelerator very slightly .the car shot suddenly forward and footbrake did not respond.car sideswiped other car and broke thru rear panel of garage before i could stop it with handbrake.major damage to front end of car.
Spot welds to the firewall fail/break for the clutch and brake pedale assembly so itlll have a delay in actuation over time due to the welds breaking and because of that the assembly bar will fracture and break over time which will need to be replaced or else braking actuation will be delayed when pressed, this is all while in motion over time of pressing and depressing, popular complaint and issue known that outside companies sell brackets to help with the welds failing and the assembly cracking
On two occasions of a rear end collision on dry pavement, while trying to avoid collision and applying the brakes extremely hard, i felt like the vehicle should have come to a complete stop. Instead the vehicle didn't stop but slid into vehicle ahead of me. I know it sounds like i'm blaming the car for my accident but i have had cars stop on a dime. This car did not stop on a dime. I had the brakes applied hard enough that it should have stopped instead it continued to move forward hitting the car in front of me. Both incidences occurred during stop and go traffic under the speed of 10-15mph. I felt like the car just continued to move sliding into the other car while on dry pavement.
Slowing down to pull into a parking space when i put my foot on the brake to shift into park, the car lurched forward and accelerated over a parking barrier and into a brick wall. Unexplained acceleration. This was not driver error. I felt a few unexplained accelerations previously but thought it was a mistake on my end. In this instance, my foot was nowhere near the acceleration pedal. It was very very frightening. I am now waiting for the insurance adjusters. My car was damaged. I damaged the building and another car tat was parked inside the building. This is a significant safety issue. Consumer stated insurance provider stated it is a total loss and wants to take possession of the car.
Brake line is rusted at rear distribution block. We were driving the vehicle on a highway (~60mph). When the driver pressed the brake pedal, it did not respond and we had to pull the emergency brake. When the brake pedal is depressed, it takes much longer (and more pressure) to stop the vehicle than it did previously. We had it inspected by a mechanic who had the brake line at the rear distribution block is rusted out. The car is registered in upstate ny where there is a lot of road salt. Our safety and the safety of the others was at risk because the brakes did not respond as expected making stopping time much longer. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to the problem.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 8,777.
This has happened on numerous occasions and places, parking lots, driveways, and in areas when changing gears needs to occur and simple will not
Brake failure at low speed coming to stop at traffic light, traction control light came on,brake light came on and check engine light on.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. While driving 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but it failed to engage. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,996.
2013 subaru impreza.consumer writes in regards to brake assist system.according to the subaru manual, the brake assist system assisted the brake power when the driver cannot depress the brake pedal strongly and the brake power was insufficient. Brake assist generated the brake power according to the speed at which the driver depressed the brake pedal. The consumer stated while driving in the right lane, on a rural interstate highway, with very little traffic. With the cruise control set at 65 mph, he immediately had to hit the brake, as another driver moved into his lane. The consumer stated the power assist forcefully slowed the vehicle down, against his will. The consumer stated he found himself struggling with the accelerator pedal, to try and gain speed.
Car has 55,000 miles. Steering box cracked and driving assist sensor pulls car abruptly to the left when driving.need to hold wheel tight and fight it to not pull car into oncoming traffic.when parking and braking car wheel will turn several times to left until completely left.
While i was backing the vehicle out of my driveway i became aware the i had no power steering. I parked the car in front of my house and took my second car to a scheduled appointment. Upon returning home i moved the subaru impreza to the front of the driveway. It still didn't have power steering. I called the local subaru dealershipand scheduled a service appointment for the following wednesday 1/8/2020 and left the car parked in the driveway. Fortunately the closest subaru dealership is approximately 2.3 miles from my home. I woke up at 5:30 am to avoid traffic and i carefully (slowly) drove the car to the dealership on local streets. The vehicle was inspected and the mechanic concluded the power steering control module had to be replaced. The parts had to be ordered so i opted to leave the car until it was repaired. The total cost of the repair was $839.95. The car is a 2013 subaru impreza with only 17,450 miles on the odometer. The car remained at the dealership for two days and i picked it up on 1/10/2020. After this incident i researched various websites to determine whether other subaru owners have experienced the same issue.my internet search proved to be enlightening. I discovered that there are/were enumerable complaints on the internet regarding subaru impreza power steering failures. Go to the auto recall for consumers website (arfc) for confirmation of my assertion. The complaints go back to 2009, 2010, 2011,....every year through 2019, there are enumerable complaints recounting power steering failures for the subaru impreza. I also came across a subaru service bulletin number: 04-21-18 dated 07/24/18 subject uneven steering effort. I can't fathom how this potentially dangerous design failure has not resulted in a national recall by the nhtsa.
2013 impreza with approximately 50,000 miles has steering problems. At low speeds steering wheel turns left on its own. At other speeds you have to hold wheel so it doesn't pull left. Much harder to turn right at any speed. Told by dealer has leaking steering rack.
Without warning and while driving on a city street, my power steering went out.the steering wheel is not only more difficult to turn now, but it does not turn smoothly or consistently.at highway speeds this could easily result in an overturn and serious vehicle accident.this is an electric power steering unit (not hydraulic) so there is no way to maintain the system.the repair is about $1900 and requires a complete replacement of the power steering unit, rack and pinion.subaru has not been helpful as i've discussed the safety concern with them.
2013 subaru impreza has 67,000 miles. Steering pulls to the left when driving and then all the way to the left when stopped or turned off. Very hard to keep straight. Subaru dealer told me i needed a new steering rack and electronic steering module. Replacement would be 2000.00. They told me to call 1800subaru3. I did not have it fixed.
The steering became uneven and "sloppy" when not moving.when moving, it was easier to turn one direction than the other.the problem is described in subaru service bulletin number 04-21-18.the steering rack assembly was replaced by the dealer.i retained the part and found that the steering gear box had cracks as described in the service bulletin.
Steering wheel very noise and it pulling to the right.the steering wheel is hard to control on highway speed.i had this problems 2 weeks now.is there any recall on this vehical.(2013 subaru impreza)
The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. While driving various speeds, the electronic steering shifted the direction of the vehicle without warning. As a result, the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel to correct the steering. The contact took the vehicle to quirk auto group (293 hogan rd, bangor, me 04401, (866) 413-4706) where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering gear box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 48,000.
The malfunction described in the following always occurs under the conditions described. This is a potentially life-threatening malfunction that in many cases would result in the total loss of steering control while the vehicle is in motion.1. Car is parked, with the engine off. 2. Driver enters car, depresses clutch pedal, and releases parking brake. 3. Vehicle rolls (even slightly) before engine ignition is turned on and engine starts. 4. Engine starts and the steering malfunction light illuminates and the electric power steering servo powers on and actively locks the steering wheel in position, preventing the driver from turning the steering wheel. This condition continues to exist when the clutch is released and the vehicle is in motion under engine power. This condition lasts 4-10 seconds, and then the vehicle begins operating normally. In order to turn the wheel, the driver must overpower the power steering, something many drivers would be unable to do. This is not a case of "dry steer" (engine off steering) or attempting to steer without power steering. The vehicle can be steered (with increased steering effort, as expected) under "dry steer" (engine off) conditions, the first time this malfunction occurred, the vehicle was moving at approximately 10 mph before the driver (myself) noticed the inability to steer. I narrowly missed crashing into a curb/divider by performing a "panic stop" with the brakes. I was unable to steer to avoid the curb, i was forced to come to a rapid stop using the brakes.
3 x in 10 days, i start the car and the steering immediately feels wrong and continues until i turn it off.i have to grip the wheel more firmly, the tires almost feel like they want to pull away from me; turning the steering wheel feels bumpy, like something is clicking over knuckles, or cogs. No leaking fluid has been seen, or noise, although this evening when i turned into my drive, there was briefly a low, rubber and agn rubber sound (no metal sound, no squeak) the dealer said they drove my car this morning, checked everything, saw nothing wrong, said it was safeto drive, but to come in again when it happens next....but they aren't open 24/7 and are 15 minutes away on hills and in traffic.in between the 3 incidents, the car has driven normally. The car was purchased in july 2013,, and has a bit over 112,000 miles on it. Can someone suggest something for me to pass on tothe dealership's repair department- they seem sincere in their efforts to help.

The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact stated that the vehicle was bought used in october of 2018. The contact received recall notices for nhtsa campaign numbers: 18v772000 (engine and engine cooling) and 19v149000 (exterior lighting). The contact took the vehicle to center subaru (45 winsted rd, torrington, ct 06790, (860) 489-1301) where it was noticed that the frame had major damage that was covered up to resell the vehicle. The failure mileage was 70,215.

I'm having the issue of my ignition not releasing my keys i have to spen 5 to 30 minutes to finally get my keys out i have to reverse and park and turn the steering wheels back in forth and push my brakes really hard and subaru wants to charge me 120 to diginose it when two out four said it's my gear control shifter and of just oredingme the part and fix it
Shortly after getting valve spring replacement work done at hunter subaru in hendersonville nc the ac condesnser seized up. Shop is not standing behind work done during recall including a ac refrigerant removal and replacement and cleaning of hoses and lines. Ac condensers dont just seize up less than 3k miles after being serviced, they are killed by lack of lubrication or improper pressures. Subaru of america will not respond either. Poor job by both. Dealer wants to charge $1200 to fix their mistake.criminals. I would not have done my warranty work at hunter if i knew they were going to mess around with other systems in the vehicle. Ac is critical to keep vision clear during driving. Car stuttered and nearly stalled when ac unit "seized" and the car smelled like burning plastic. Scary
I started my vehicle after sitting overnight. After backing out of my driveway and driving maybe 20 seconds the passenger window switch began smoking, after maybe 10 seconds the window switch began melting into itself very quickly. Less than 1 minute later my entire car my car was engulfed in flames in my driveway (thank god i made it back). This all happened within 2 minutes of me starting the car.

My horn suddenly stopped working. I googled extensively this issue and it is very common among subaru owners of many different model years. This is a crucial safety concern since most people rarely use their horn, but when you need it, for example, a deer in the road or an inattentive driver crossing a centerline, you really need it!it seems to me subaru is guilty of planned obsolescence. My car reached 144k miles and suddenly the dash is ablaze with idiot lights, multiple colors, some flashing, some not. My local mechanic gave me an estimate of $2,000 to fix everything. A subaru dealer, $2900. I realize many items are wear and tear, but the horn, it should not suddenly quit working. I do not live in nyc and rarely use it. My local mechanic said $200 to fix the horn. Subaru dealer said $800. It is not a simple fuse. An expensive part within the steering wheel needs to be replaced. Thank you for reading my complaint. The glass sunroof exploded while driving on the freeway. There were no external influences that would trigger such a catastrophic failure - temperature was moderate, no other vehicles in close proximity and no flying debris. Luckily, i had the interior screen closed, or i would have been showered with broken glass.
The valve springs recall has been issued since 10/31 with no remedy. This could be a potentially harmful thing! would like an update or at least get my car fixed
Ignition mechanism will not fully rotate completely to allow key to be removed from ignition housing.car turns off but key will not release. Unknown what eventually releases the mechanism for the key to turn and come out but usually takes some minutes, doors or electric locks open/close, starting the car again and driving more... Don't know. All has worked and not worked.
Was traveling normally and suddenly car abruptly stopped with engine running.
Driving at low speed and hit a small bump in very cold weather (5f). Windshield made a popping sound .the car was parked a week later when the windshield developed a spontaneous crack along the drivers side frame. There was absolutely no impact.this is a serious safety and manufacturing issue that needs to be addressed.other folks are reporting a similar issue with these vehicles.
Key won't come out of ignition. If steering wheel locks, key will not turn ignition or come out leaving me stranded for several minutes. This happens more and more frequently.
Once vehicle is parked, ignition switch will not release the key.
When i turn off the car i cant remove the key from the ignition

The contact owns a 2013 subaru impreza. The contact stated that while driving 4 mph in reverse, the vehicle rapidly accelerated in reverse. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle, as it proceeded to crash into a boulder followed by a tree. The rear bumper was damaged however, there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice, initially in november 2013 and again in february 2014 while in reverse. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance with repairing the vehicle. The failure mileage was 6,300 and the current mileage was 7,000.
We were pulling into a parking place, turning the wheel and the car unexpected leaped forward. This has occurred now 5 times--all times moving slowly forward, turning the wheel as we tried to park. This has occurred with both my partner driving, and with myself driving.so far we have managed to slam on the brakes in time--and they stopped the car. But we fear crashing or accidentally hurting someone.
Car throws a p2138 code and car goes in limp mode with the accelerator pedal non-responsive. Have to pull over and reset ecu to get back on road. Have replaced accelerator pedal, throttle body, relay, and ecm at subaru dealership. Happened dozens of times. Car has been completely stock and cobb accessport tuned tostage 1. Happens tuned and stock. Happens sometimes immediately upon startup and other times while maintaining 70mph lm the highway. Happened when i was out of gear coasting to a stop sign. Random occurrence. Subaru has no solution.
While my son was driving in the 95 north suddenly the car lock out! my son brought the car to garavel subaru garage in norwalk ct.where diego who is the service manager at garavel subaru took care of it, that was on november 18/2017 until approximately 11/28 or 29 2017! when he pick up the car at gravel subaru, the car the the same thing with the clutch again! my some brought again the car to the garage on december 23/2017- until january 4/2018,who was check again and the come up that the car doesn't have any thing wrong. My son came back with the car, with the mind set the everything was ok. An he was risk he life and other life with the defective car.! still.and the clutch did again, lock out!!! he brought the car again on january 28 on or about 2018 and currently there! please investigate!
I was driving and the cruise control light started blinking, the check engine light came on, and the traction control light came on.https://youtu.be/zujiggdqq5e
While on the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated.this happened on two separate occasions; both while my foot was on the brake pedal.the first time this happened, i was on my brake at a red light (stationary) and the second time, after i went over a small "lip" on the asphalt, i was braking to park in front of a house when it accelerated substantially, causing extensive damage to the house and car, while almost killing me.
On (3) separate occasions, my 2013 subaru impreza unintentionally accelerated while i was driving (in motion). Each time (shortly after), i took my car to the subaru dealership in glen mills, pa for inspection. Those dates are: 6/25/16, 1/16/20, 2/27/21. Each time the mechanic was unable to locate the problem. The first incident (2016), i was driving to work (within 3 minutes of home). The car was traveling at about 25 miles an hour. I panicked (hit the accelerator harder), but was ableto brake and regain control of the car. The second incident (2020) , i had just left work, was traveling about 35 miles an hour, and the car accelerated as before. Again, i was able to regain control of the car by braking like normal. The third time (2021), i was about halfway home (from work) traveling about 35 miles an hour and the car accelerated. I was able to brake like normal and regain control of the car. Each incident was similar in the sense that it "felt like the car was possessed". It reminded me of a car wash when the car first moves on its own. It felt different from simply "traveling faster". I also mentioned to the mechanic that my car sometimes "lunges" at a red light. This occasionally occurs when i first start the car. A few times i needed to push hard on the brake so it didn't advance forward and hit the back of another car. As a result, i try to "warm up" my car a short while before driving. I don't know if the "lunging" relates to the other incidents. I am attaching the paperwork from the dealership. All (3) reports are included in the single pdf.please contact me if you need more detail or have questions.
Scary
I was driving and the cruise control light started blinking, the check engine light came on, and the traction control light came on.https://youtu.be/zujiggdqq5e
