The passenger air bag on my new 2008 subaru impreza hatchback which i purchased july 27, 2008 is set for a 125 pound person according to the dealer.my wife weighs between 120 and 130 pounds so the bag goes on and off intermittently and randomly.
Takata recall. I received a notice months ago that my vehicle is affected by the airbag recall. The notice states that currently, parts are unavailable and that subaru is in the process of acquiring parts necessary to perform the repair. I am still waiting to see when parts will be available. Any idea when this is going to happen?
Takata recall: was told it could take up to a year for the parts to become available. What is the approved timeline. How can i remedy this faster
2008 subaru impreza front passenger air bag sensor turns off and on while my wife 5'1" 110 lbs sits in front passenger seat.dealership originally stated the sensor is set to detect 80lbs.dealership is now stating sensor is set to 125 lbs and nothing can be done to remedy this situation.
Takata recall.subaru issued notice in july that the vehicle was not safe and would be repaired, but now has not followed up.i called the number listed on their website and with the nhtsa today to follow up (during their listed business hours).the message states they are closed and disconnects my call.they have not taken measures to repair the vehicle and will not answer my call.
Sensor for passenger airbag will not keep the airbag armed at all times. Passenger weighs 110 pounds.
I was notified by subaru in june or july of 2016 that the passenger side airbag in my vehicle may have a defective takata inflators.i was instructed to not have anyone ride in the passenger seat until it is replaced.i have contacted my dealer (where i purchased the car) several times (in person and over the phone) and been told there are no replacement parts available from takata and no time-line for reveiving them.this is my 25 year old daughter's only transportation.she has been driving this potentially life-endangering car since she was 17 years old. ?this is ridiculous!!!how long will we need to wait to correct this flagrantlynegligent act on the part of takata and the auto industry?there has been no offer from subaru or takata to compensate us or provide another vehicle.i was told that because my daughter was not yet 25 at the time of the recall that they would not even offer a rental vehicle. This is ridiculous and takata should be held more accountable.
Takata recall. Subaru dealership has been unable to estimate when the remedy will be available, more than two months after notifying me of the defect with the takata-sourced passenger side frontal air bag.in the meantime, we are told not to allow passengers in the front passenger seat. The loss of passenger capacity is disruptive to the transport of my family and a school carpool.i believe subaru is obligated to tell customers exactly when thesevehicles will again be safe.
Takata airbag. Took the vehicle to the subaru of richmond located at 9177 west broad street 23294, where tried to get the airbag replaced. The airbag sensor was flashing and they said they wouldn't replace the airbag with the sensor blinking, saying that the airbag sensor and the airbag recall had no correlation. They then proceeded to try and charge $1700 for the sensor to get fixed.
Takata recall
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v358000 (air bags). The parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Takatata airbag recalli received a letter stating the tk holdings inc. Was filing a chapter 11 and doing an airbag recall that may affect my car.i looked it up on airbagrecall.com and was then directed to this website.there is no exterior damage to the car nor was it damaged at all while driving.this is all to check if i need my airbags replaced.
Takata recall- i was driving in the slow (right side) of the freeway going about 68 mph (between 65-70), there was a small amount of traffic. There was an extra lane (temporary 3 lane for entrance, but normal 2 lane freeway) to my right and i began merging (or possibly swerved from looking over shoulder...and a bee flew into me while i was driving also causing me to swerve a bit). I ended up in the fast (left) lane that was going slower due to an unknown reason...which caused me to slam on the breaks, but i rear ended the car in front of me at an angle (my driver side front to their passenger side back) because i swerved back into the luckily empty spot next to me, but it wasn't fast enough to not hit the car in front of me. I didn't see my exact speed when i hit the car but i was going over the documented (on previous page) speed that the airbag should have deployed with the amount of impact our cars struck...this vehicle was going less than 20 mph and i was going somewhere between 50-60 mph and the impact was all on the front driver side so from what i've been reading that the airbag should have gone off....especially since i had the recall fixed/serviced in december 2018, where i had to bring the car back to the dealership about an hour later because some "hosing" wasn't correctly reinstalled. So i'm curious if anything else wasn't installed correctly that caused the airbag not to go off. I had just taken full coverage off my insurance to save money three days prior to the accident because i am in the moving process-now with no coverage to my damage (which my insurance quoted around 2900$ had i had full coverage still), as well as medical insurance for myself and i spent about 8 hours in the er. Which also won't be covered. I am not 100% certain of how the accident occurred because i wasn't sure why traffic was slowed so suddenly; the airbags should have gone off?
I was involved in a direct head-on mvc traveling 35 mph(at time of impact).the front passenger was wearing the seatbelt appropriately.the airbags did not deploy and the front passenger's head made contact with dash.this passenger did sustain a moderate neck injury presenting the following morning requiring evaluation and treatment in an emergency department.there was significant damage to the front of the car and the car is not drivable.
The contact owned a 2008 subaru impreza. While driving in inclement weather, the vehicle was involved in a side impact collision. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was deemed destroyed. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The driver suffered from a concussion from hitting the driver side window. Medical attention was required. The failure mileage was approximately 80,500.
Letter from congresswoman frankel on behalf of constituent re 2008 subaru impreza takata airbag recall issues.the consumer received a recall letter, regarding the air bags. However, the parts were not available. Updated 09/21/16.

Vin tool confirms parts not available.
2008 subaru impreza with bad airbag protection on passenger side. Passenger airbag sensor sporadically goes on and off when his wife is in the passenger seat. He states it isn't safe for adults that may weigh 125 pounds.

The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza.while stopped at a red light, a drunk driver struck the contact's vehicle head on towards the front passenger side.the drunk driver was traveling 55 mph at the time of impact.the vehicle sustained a large amount of damage and the air bags failed to deploy.the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer of the vehicle.the vehicle is currently located at a shop being repaired.the driver and one adult passenger were both airlifted to the hospital; however, the injuries were non critical.a police report was filed.the current and failure mileages were 15,000.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact stated that another vehicle came across three lanes of oncoming traffic and caused a crash. The other vehicle crashed into the front of the contact's vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained major injuries. A police report was filed.the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the impact did not meet the specifications that would warrant air bag deployment. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.
Takata recall ntsb 16-359 zone bdriving with small children in the vehicle and my dealer, annapolis subaru, tells me they don't have the replacement air bags yet. Very concerned
Subaru is unable to repair my vehicle for almost a month, i use my vehicle for work and this recall is potentially deadly.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza.the contact stated that the air bag light illuminates to the on position intermittently.the vehicle has been taken to a dealer twice, but the cause of the failure was not identified.there are no recalls on the vehicle relating to this failure.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 5,500 and failure mileage was 3,000.
My 24-year-old daughter, who is 5'2" and weighs approximately 100 pounds, was sitting in the passenger seat of my 2008 subaru impreza for the first time when we discovered that the passenger occupancy sensor does not register her weight and shuts off the passenger-side airbag. By moving around and adding weight to the seat we were able to turn the airbag back on temporarily -- but when she is just sitting in the seat as she normally would, her weight is not high enough to trigger the sensor.i called the subaru dealer, who told me that there is no way to change the calibration of the weight sensor. The sensor cutoff is unreasonably high; there are many adults who do not meet this weight requirement (a google search turned up many similar experiences with subarus). This miscalibration could have dangerous -- even fatal -- repercussions.
Immediately after purchasing a new 08 subaru impreza, i noticed that the passenger airbag on/off warning light will intermittently switch back and forth from on to off when a person 5'11' and 160 lb was sitting on the passenger seat. I went to the dealer and they recalibrated the cushion seat weight sensor. This did not solve the problem. I went back and, according to the dealer, following subaru's instructions, they replaced the seat cushion (including all the sensors in it). This again did not solve the problem. The dealer maintenance manager told me that the weight sensors are very sensitive and all the imprezas exhibit this (don't know why they would replace the seat cushion if they all exhibit this). I requested to meet the regional service manager, which has not happened yet. This is a severe safety failure with potential catastrophic consequences. My vehicle has now less than 3,000 miles.updated 10/03/08
The front passenger airbag off light turns on and off randomly when my wife is in the seat....she is 5ft 2in and 119lbs. Often as we are traveling down the road with her in the front seat the airbag is off. This failure occurs frequently and despite the fact that she is restrained and seated as outlined in the owner's manual.after multiple discussions with the dealer and subaru customer service we are advised that there is nothing they can do as the car is designed this way. For our purposes this vehicle does not consistently provide the safety benefits of a front impact airbag.....is the manufacturer not responsible to remedy this?
The passenger seat airbag in my 2008 subaru impreza wrx sti does not turn on when a passenger sits in the seat.
Passenger air bag light goes on and off. My wife weights 120 and it some time goes on and stays on then the next minute it goes off. I have had the dealer address this issue twice now and same response. "don't worry it will deploy regardless if the light goes on or off".honestly can't believe that. They also said (sherman oaks subaru" that they have addressed the problem to subaru and they said its a light issue and don't worry about it. That is not a good answer since this is a safety issue. Plus they say they can't duplicate the problem. In the iwsti chat room their are about 10 complaints of the same problem for the 2008 subaru wrx sti. This needs to get addressed!
Passenger side airbag goes on and off, when my 18 year old daughter sits in seat!she's 5'2" 130lbs.took to dealer and they had her ride in two impreza's off the lot and they all did it!
Passenger airbag failures in 2008 subaru impreza outback sport:i purchased a 2008 subaru impreza outback sport one month ago, 4/17/08. I realized a few days after owning the car that the passenger airbag is only activated by passengers over 130 pounds. I am 49 years old, 5'4" and weigh 125#. The airbag is off anytime i am in the passenger seat, no matter how i sit in the seat. Same result (off) happens with my 16 year old daughter who is 120# and a couple of her friends who are between 105-115#.i then had two children, 87# and 95# sit in the passenger seat. The passenger airbag was off. The passenger airbag light is on when my sons are in the seat. They weigh 150# and 160#.i called subaru service and they said the passenger airbag is set to be on for persons over 80# and they recommended i bring the car in to get checked.i took my car to subaru service and they said "the passenger airbag is operating properly according to government standards." i called subaru corporate office and they said the same thing. I went back to the subaru dealer and sat in two identical impreza outback sports and the exact same result that the passenger airbag was off. I also sat in four 2009 subaru foresters and the passenger airbag was off in 2 of the 4. I sat in two 2008 legacy outback wagons and the passenger airbag was on. I sat in two 2008 tribecas and the passenger airbag was on. Subaru is not being cooperative in resolving the situation.
Passenger airbag on/off light cycles between off and on when a passenger of 100lbs is seated in the seat.
Front passengers sitting correctly that weigh between ~95 and 120lbs do not activate the airbag or the airbag light is intermittent.
The passenger frontal airbag periodically turns off when my girlfriend is sitting in the passenger seat.she weighs approximately 125 lbs and when she is sitting in the passenger seat the passenger frontal airbag will haphazardly change from "on" to "off" when it is supposed to be remaining in the "on" position.
Bought new subaru 2008 imprezaoutback sport wagon- passenger side frontal airbag does not turn on if passenger weighs 100-107 lbs (that is us)and only noticed wk 3 since no passenger until then. Only works with heavier guys. No fix per subaru. Apparently i see online that there have been earlier complaints of same problem in subaru for past 2 years, even other models. Why is this not reported or fixed. Other makes do it well for any person >65 lbs.
2008 subaru impreza with bad airbag protection on passenger side. Passenger airbag sensor sporadically goes on and off when his wife is in the passenger seat. He states it isn't safe for adults that may weigh 125 pounds.
2008 subaru impreza. Consumer states problem with vehicle clutch *tgwthe consumer stated there was a screeching/rubbing noise when the clutch was applied and a loud pop noise from neutral to 1st gear. The vehicle would pop out of 6th gear at high speeds. The engine made a loud rattle noise on cold starts, the right rear window washer was inoperable, the passenger air bag occasionally did not recognize a passenger in the seat. The hood was loose and rattled, the right rear door was difficult to close, the left rear wheel studs would not secure the lug nut, the battery and power steering pump was pumping.
Passenger airbag sensor stays in "off" position when my daughter - who is 5'7" and 136 lbs. - is in the seat.we have driven the car over long distances and i slammed on the brakes hard enough to employ the abs, to no avail.the sensor continues to stay in the "off" position.
Passenger side airbag goes on and off, when my 18 year old daughter sits in seat!she's 5'2" 130lbs.took to dealer and they had her ride in two impreza's off the lot and they all did it!
Vehicle check engine light, stability control assist, and cruise control light come on all at the same time rendering those system useful. Also sometimes the hill start assist and abs light come on rendering those unavailable as well. Making the vehicle not as secured as advertised. It started in 2010 took it to the dealership and they just erased the codes, but the problem continued, still happening today.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact stated that while parked with the engine off, the vehicle suddenly caught on fire. The fire department was called to extinguish the flames. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined the fire was caused by a faulty relay/fuse box. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
According to the dealership the catalytic converter in my 2008 subaru impreza has prematurely failed.the vehicles check engine light came on and the car went into "limp" mode while driving, in conjunction with the check engine light my vehicle has been experiencing very poor gas mileage for the last month.the dealership has quoted me over $2000 for the repair of my car. It was brought to my attention that several other same modelyear subaru's have recalls due to the catalytic converter not performing to emission standards.some of these cars have the exact catalytic converter part number as my car, i do not understand why car would not be recalled also.
High beams fail, vehicle has not been repaired. Dealer states unsure what problem is, after 1 hour charge of diagnostics, sent me on my way.
Car was parked and locked in my driveway .the horn started blaring and headlights came on.not car alarm.interior was filled with smoke.called fire department then tried to open car with remote to extinguish fire.had to use key to unlock door.fire origionated from guages/dash area on drivers side.there were several explosions from car as it burned.horn continued to blare after fire department extinguished fire.fire fighters then pried into hood and cut battery cables before horn stopped blaring.total loss of vehicle.
I was out all morning running errands. I came home from about 4 hours of doing the run around. At 12:25 pm i got home , took my babies out of the car and put them down for a nap. I went out about 40 mins later to the car and the key fobs were not working so i then went to unlock the driver door with the key and when i opened it black smoke started rolling out. I then called 911 and reported the fire. The fire itself was out but the inside of the car all under the driver seat was burned up. The fire department started going threw the car and said they are claiming it as electrical. I reported it to my insurance company and now they are investigated it as well. The car was totaled out by the insurance company since there was so much damage to the inside.

I started to get a film on the windshield of my 2008 subaru. I took it into the dealership and they did a test and found a problem with the a/c unit; they told me the film on the windshield was safe and car was safe to drive. I took the car in again while they were waiting for parts, for another issue, and i requested a copy of the tech notes and the film that was on the windshield was freon!- health hazard. They fixed this problem with the freon film, and now not a month later its back, and worse. I again took it into the dealer and he told me this is natural, that the gas in the upholstery needed to get out and that the gas is again safe. I asked the salesmen that i got the car from,he never heard of this. Still not fixed as this is a natural issue, there is also a foul odor coming out of the ac/heater system.i have also had issues with the traction control when activated the vehicle loses power in all of vehicle, has a loud noise coming form the right side of the car when the system is engaged; nav system when its turned on will go to blank white screen, will also not respond sometimes;need seat belt system replaced on the passenger side, was retracting when not needed; issues starting- hard crank over, sometimes had to repeat to start,or turn key over for long period of time.i am now having health issues as i drive the car everyday for hours.i have almost been in many accidents due to this issue. Wiping off don't help.

Vehicle was not stationary, it was being tuned and the fire wall got to hot and started to smoke. In addition the third cylinder in the motor went bad as well and the motor was replaced due to a rod knock and the 3rd cylinder going bad. The vehicle has 80000 miles on the vehicle.
Oil leaking from premature head gasket failure. Oil leaking on a hot engine can cause a fire. This is common for this make, model and year, due to incorrect sizing of the gasket. It is defective from the factory and may result in a fire.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle lost power. There were no warning indicators illuminated during the failure. The contact stated that the failure occurred every 20,000 miles. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (grand prix subaru, 500 s broadway, hicksville, ny 11801) and the engine block was replaced. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to purchase a new vehicle. The failure mileage was 79,000.
Blew 3 valve gaskets within two weeks after buying car. Blew 2 tires within 2 months of having the car. They 'fixed' an oil control valve and then it needed another. Sway bar links needed replaced, cv joints need replaced, brake pads are extremely low. Ac doesn't work. Had to buy all new tires.

As a result, the contact was unable to drive the vehicle in snowy weather. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the engine air valve failed. The contact replaced the engine air valves himself, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was also taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine valves needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the engine valve design caused the traction control system to fail. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 58,000.

Head gasket prematurely leaking oil.leak finds itself near exhaust.a little bit of research finds that this problem is very common up until 2010 and the introduction of the newest engine. An improved gasket is available, but replacement is very expensive.this is clearly a defective part and the affected cars should be recalled.
A loud squeak is occurring when i press and release my clutch.i had my clutch replaced about 10k miles ago due to a seized throwout bearing.i brought it to the dealer, they lubed it all up but squeak is still there.the tech said the noise is actually coming from the bracket that is mounted to the firewall under the dash.after a few hours of research, i have found numerous posts about this issue and it lies with the welds holding the bracket being faulty and breaking.this causes the firewall to flex and your whole pedal assembly, clutch and brake, to move around while in operation.
My clutch bracket broke on the welds. This is an oem product that has a defect and it is well known on the internet and forums. Subaru of newton nj refuses to fix the problem and was well aware. This was very dangerous for me since it happened on a highway at speeds of 65 mph. The bracket is broken and the clutch will not engage. I have noticed the firewall is cracking also. The brake pedal moves inches to the side when the clutch is pressed. This is a very dangerous problem. I am very disappointed with subaru and the car only has 73k miles on it. I also filled with subaru and i am awaiting answers.
The head gasket is leaking.this will cost over $2000 to fix.this should not be occurring.
The fire wall broke and the pistons had nothing but problems then it blew the crank
For at least 20,000 miles now (i'm at 55,000) i have had a very stiff clutch pedal and terrible squeak with every depression of the clutch.my clutch is slipping in 3rd, 4th and 5th.this was reported and diagnosed under warranty around 30,000 miles by the pembroke pines subaru dealership.subaru of america requested that the pressure plate and possibly the clutch be replaced (ignoring my statement that the tack welds holding the clutch assembly in place were snapped -- which they are, effecting engagement and likely damaging the clutch/pp/flywheel).after moving to asheville, nc right at the time of soa making this request, the subaru dealership (prestige) refused to honor soa's request stating they were a franchise dealership and did not have to listen.i expect the pressure plate & clutch, along with the firewall welds, to be repaired under soa warranty.
I own a 2008 subaru impreza sti which i purchased in feb. Of 08'.2 months ago the car went into limp mode when i was driving home.i took it to the dealership to have it checked and they said it only had 1 1/2 quarts of oil in it.i had checked the oil the previous week and it had shown full.they requested that i give them record of my previous oil change so i did.unfortunately, it did not have mileage documented because it was a small shop that did it for me.they refused my claim on the grounds that i did not maintain the car.they then sent me a re-call form in which it stated that the ecu was causing the car to run dangerously lean and was causing ring failures.i told my lawyer about this and sent him a copy of the letter.when he called the dealership, they told him that they were unable to make any repairs necessary and that it was my issue.
This 2008 subaru impreza has been plagued as have many others by a manufacturer chassis defect. The firewall/bulkhead between the driver and engine has 5 spot welds broken which initially are meant to secure the clutch and brake assembly. These weld breaks are a serious safety issue as they are causing difficulty in engaging clutch and brakes, as well as a squeak noise every time the clutch is depressed. As this is not an insignificant wear item but part of the chassis/frame which is a dangerous defect as complete failure during operation of the vehicle can cause catastrophic accidents, further investigation and action on this matter should be taken by the nhtsa. This is certainly a recall issue.

The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. While driving at 35 mph, there was smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact noticed oil leaking from the engine. The contact was an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the valve covers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact then replaced the clamps on the oil return line however the failure persisted. The contact then diagnosed that the oil feed line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 08v460000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact stated that two weeks after the repairs, while driving at 60 mph, there was a noise coming from the engine. In addition, the contact noticed smoke in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000. Updated 7/1/15
Car began 'stumbling' at 3k rpm under very light load/throttle.had substantially less power at highway speeds.small trace of white smoke during startup, only happened once.compression/leakdown results; cyl1 = 115 / 10%, cyl2 = 125 / 10%, cyl3 = 117 / 18%, cyl4 = 100 / 23%.driving habits are mild, i-mode 90% of the time, shifting at 2800-3200 rpm... Car is currently at dealer, they have confirmed an issue and we're awaiting response from subaru of america on whether or not this will be warrantied.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza.while driving between 5-10 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the engine revved up to 2,500 rpm's.the failure occurred soon after the vehicle was purchased.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer three times for this failure.it has since improved, but the engine still revs from 1,500 to 2,000 rpm's.the contact is concerned that the failure will worsen in the winter.she filed case number 1121875 with subaru.the current mileage was 1,107 and failure mileage was 400. 2008 subaru impreza.consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine shuts down after pressing down on accelerator.the consumer stated when her husband adjusted his pant leg, it caused him to press down on the accelerator. When that happened, the vehicle let out a loud shuddering and immediately shut the engine down. All the lights stayed on and the vehicle started right back up. The consumer stated the incident happened twice.the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. However, they did find a valve was leaking oil, which was covered under warranty.
Smoke coming from the exhaust, rough idle, oil consumption were my first signs. The dealer wouldn't do a compression check on the motor since there was no check engine light on, so i had to pay with my own cash and take it to a private shop and found out that in fact cylinder #2 had a shot ringland. They replaced the piston but the motor doesn't seem to be right still since i have a car that was involved in a "stop sale" that involved some engines having some debris in the motor and was causing knocking and throwing bearings. Subaru should have replaced the short block but didn't.
Engine started stuttering and would almost die when trying to accelerate, then started blowing smoke out tale pipe.car had 3400 miles.dealer diagnosed as ringland/piston failure.
I own a 2008 wrx sti subaru that had complete engine failure due to fact the dealer could not perform a critical ecm recall that was a direct result of engine failure. Subaru refused to cover it under warrenty. The car has been a problem from the start also had brake system issues they refuse to repair.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza.the contact stated that the engine vibrates and rumbles every time the vehicle is started.he took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that nothing was wrong.the contact also stated that the vehicle had 19.5 miles when it was purchased but, when he received the paperwork, it read 99 miles.he believes that he was shown one vehicle and was sold another.the vin and mileages were unavailable.
2008 subaru wrx manual trans. 22,500 miles.between the time the engine comes off high idle (after being started cold) and when it is completely warmed up, the engine will drop its rpm to 0 causing an engine stall when the clutch is depressed in order to change gears.this recently happened when entering a roundabout when i was going to shift down from 3rd to 2nd gear.at this point i only have my left hand on the steering wheel and right on the shift lever. The engine stalls and i loose power steering.power braking also seems decreased as i was unable to prevent the car from running into the central island of the roundabout.this happens consistently in cold weather.dealership has tried repairs, but is unable to find anything wrong (3 separate admissions for service for this problem over last 9 months).computer error codes returned were 301,302,303,304.as of today the car is at the local subaru dealer for the second day this episode.
All-season rubber floor mats fail, creating a crease which can become caught on the accelerator pedal.
Vehicle started with a noise in the clutch pedal. Went away with lubricant. Then began to make a clicking sound and the clutch and brake both started to move as i depressed the clutch . The shifting of gears became difficult from the start of reverse or first gear. Then it be came real loose i had a mechanic look into it and mentioned that a weld has broken and did not recommend him fix but to have the dealer take a look at it because its a safety issue and if it breaks completely that it may cause the car to be unable to stop . So i took it to the dealer and mentioned it was out of warranty. But they will look at it.currently they mentioned they cannot fix it under warranty so currently i cannot afford to get it resolved so im unable to drive the car.

Submission from subaru of america, inc. Re consumer complaint- 2008 subaru impreza.the consumer stated on january 24, 2014, the high beam lights would not come on. However, she did smell a burnt plastic smell coming from her vehicle.she purchased a replacement bulb from an auto parts store.the consumer later went to a lube establishment, to have the driver's side replaced. But, when the hood was opened, it was discovered both headlight plastic covers had melted . The mechanic informed the her, the headlight assemblies needed to be replaced.when the consumer called the dealer to explain the situation, she was given an estimate of $1300 to replace the headlight assemblies. Soon after, the passenger high beam light would not come on.she went back to the auto parts store and purchased another bulb.on february 24, 2014, the consumer was informed, subaru would pay 50% for the replacement, as a courtesy because the vehicle was out of warranty.
High beams fail, vehicle has not been repaired. Dealer states unsure what problem is, after 1 hour charge of diagnostics, sent me on my way.
I find the hid headlamps on my 2008 subaru impreza sti to be aimed and/or throw a light pattern that is dangerously low. At night, objects only very close to the vehicle are lit up. I feel unsafe driving the vehicle on unlit roads at night, particularly in the rain. An inquiry with the dealer indicated that several other owners of this make and model have made similar complaints, but that the headlamps cannot be adjusted by the dealer, and subaru has offered no solution.
Fuel leak at flange joint of fuel pump/tank assembly or nearby location accompanied by significant corrosion of flange retaining bolts. Leaked fuel causes odor to accumulate in passenger compartment by way of nearby air exhaust vents while vehicle is parked.vehicle is out of warranty due to miles driven. Dealer service department unable to schedule appointment in timely manner to resolve issue due to workload.
The clutch pedal on my 2008 wrx makes a loud creaking noise every time it's depressed (it will also pop if cold out). After reading other complaints online i found the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly (attached to the forward firewall) shifts approx 1/4 inch every time the clutch pedal is depressed, also causing the brake pedal to flex to the left. I can see at least two of my three spot welds securing the clutch pedal bracket to the forward firewall are broken. The whole clutch pedal assembly pulls away from the firewall every time the clutch pedal is depressed, the slave cylinder unit visibly moves. This allows the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly to move, causing the creaking noise. If the bracket completely separates from the firewall, the clutch may become completely inoperative, it already frequently feels like i cannot push the clutch in far enough to get it into gear.feedback from the online forums shows subaru is not addressing the problem of the faulty welds leading to expensive consumer repairs or alternative diy fixes.
Fuel pump connector burnt , gasoline in connection and pump stopped working. No start.

The spot welds under windshield cowl broke causing the bracket holding clutch pedal assembly to break. Because of these issues, i can only engage my reverse gear half the time and while shifting gears in motion, it tends to be a bit difficult. I've almost crashed a couple times because of this issue. My car is a 2008 subaru wrx sedan with only 74,000 miles and i'm currently making payments on the car. Money is really tight due to me being a full time college student and full time worker so i'm not sure how to go about this really big problem. My car is everything to me right now and if it fails on me, i have no means of transportation. I also have no modifications to the vehicle other than wheels, and a blow off valve. The vehicle tends to give me the most difficulty engaging reverse every morning.
This car is a lemon.i previously owned 2 subarus (both used), that i had virtually zero problems with, then bought this new from apple subaru in york, pa.it has experienced problems before it even hit 50,000 miles.the tranny they replaced under warranty; but it took them 3 weeks to do so, and only completed job when they needed the loaner car back within 24 hours.less than 6,000 miles later, on christmas eve, the clutch throw out bearing failed, i had to pay for towing to and from the dealership.they called on12/26, and informed me that it would not be covered under warranty ( even though they easily could have rushed the tranny job and caused this), that it was a "wear point."when i heard $1700, asked to speak with the service mgr., who inferred that i was ignorant, and hung up on me!i have never replaced a clutch in nearly 40 years of driving manual transmission autos.motor now taps at 69,000 mi.; needs replacementbecause one of the connecting rods is bent, and i am beginning to lose oil.because of this, i am going to take a 50-75% reduction on the sale/trade value of this haunted vehicle.i am the third family member that subaru has screwed, sure hope they treat their other loyal , decades-long customers better than they have treated us.
I noticed about 3 months ago my clutch assembly starting to squeak and started to stick when fully depressed. The past month driving is almost impossible with having trouble starting the car and almost having to jam gears just to shift. Took it to transmission shop 2 days ago and they told me that my clutch is completely gone. After going to them they found out what the issue was. The firewall where the master cylinder sits is completely cracked 2 ways. With ignition off you can pressing the clutch is see the firewall completely flexing without the car even being on. They told me there is nothing that they can do and told me to get in contact with the manufacturer.
The fire wall is cracked and the welds are broken which is causing my clutch to not disengage properly and the clutch pedal to not function correctly.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. While driving at various speeds, the clutch was difficult to engage. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the clutch well assembly that was attached to the firewall needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,800.
Failed welds connecting pedal panel to the firewall.results in loud squeaking when clutch pedal is depressed/released and the panel welds may fail entirely on my '08 sti.

Clutch pedal on 2008 wrx has developed a creaking noise every time it is depressed. Brake pedal shifts forward and to the left upon depression of clutch pedal. This is a reasonably well documented problem of the clutch pedal assembly spot weld joints failing.this is a safety issue that should result in a recall.
2008 wrx firewall welds are bad.dealership wrote up "dangerous. Should not drive vehicle" and gave me an approximate price to fix it telling me they've never seen or heard about this before.forums state this is an ongoing problem since 2008 and many people have attempted to spot weld it in place or have done non-ome fixes.dealership told me basically corporate won't help because the car has 137,000 miles on it so its my problem.car is too dangerous to drive or sell in this shape.i have called the dealership and complained about this problem starting 6 months after i purchased the car new and they always said the same thing "we have no known issues related to what your explaining".6 years later and now its turned into a dangerous situation where clutch will go while driving.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact stated that after engaging and releasing the clutch, he heard a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that the throw out bearing and clutch were defective and needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 49,000.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. While driving at any speed, when the clutch was depressed, it became stuck and made an unknown noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the clutch assembly was peeling away from the firewall. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the warranty was extended until november of 2015, but could not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 148,000.
I bought used 11/2009 with approximately 27,000 miles. The clutch was always very stiff which i assumed was normal. Shortly after purchase i began to notice a squeak when i depressed the clutch. The squeak was fairly intermittent but became progressively worse for a time and then turned into a clicking noise. It was frequent enough to be annoying but i just assumed the clutch assembly was squeaky and there was no other problem. Over the last few months i have been having more and more difficulty engaging the clutch and assumed that i needed a new one. I took the car into a mechanic to replace the clutch but was turned away because of what he found: when the clutch pedal is depressed, it, along with the brake pedal, move to the left and forward. Furthermore, the slave cylinder inside the engine compartment moves out and up when the clutch pedal is depressed. After doing some research online i have found that this is not an uncommon problem for the subaru clutch assembly, though no recall has be initiated. What happens is that the welds on the firewall break, causing the abnormal movement of the clutch and brake pedals and even a warping of the firewall, not allowing the clutch to disengage.
The pedal assembly of my vehicle has disconnected from my firewall due to faulty welds. My clutch and brake pedals now have an unsafe amount of play and is causing issues with braking and disengaging my clutch. Subaru of america refused to repair the problem with my car.

Having same issue as most with 08 wrx . Firewall brackets have come loose and clutch will not actuate properly.

This car was purchased by myself brand new with a few miles on the odometer. The clutch pedal was always stiff and squeaky and two local dealerships reassured me this is normal and nothing to worry about. Since about 50k miles my clutch pedal has been unresponsive and requires constant lubrication and bleeding of clutch master and slave cylinder. When pressing either clutch or brake pedal, the other would also move which causes loss of rod travel thus reduced fluid volume to necessary hydraulics. With clutch pedal fully depressed and in gear, the car will roll as if clutch is dragging. With clutch depressed and in gear, the car would lurch forward when turned on. While shifting normally the gears would grind and i'm certain this has worn my synchromesh gears. Dealer continued blaming one part, another part, and my driving habits. They charged me out of pocket for repairs and replacement with no actual progress fixing the issues. Today i stopped by the closest dealership requesting more information on this common clutch pedal assembly to firewall problems. They acknowledged this is an issue and gave me a verbal estimate of at least $900 to fix the broken welds. In my neighborhood i am leaving a stop sign as usual and go to shift into second gear. The clutch pedal linkage broke completely with pedal stuck on the floor. Clutch is now 100% inoperable, luckily i was on a quiet street and this did not break while on the highway. This is a very real safety issue and the manufacturer should fix this without charging we the customers. There were numerous symptoms for years on this exact problem, each getting progressively worse until this final breakage.

My sons vehicle started off with a squeaking noise when he depressed the clutch.this went on for a couple of monthshe is now having difficulty shifting the car into gear and it nearly caused an accident the other day.when the vehicle is stationary, and the clutch is totally depressed it is extremely difficult to get the car into gear.when driving it is less difficult, but still very tricky to get into gear. We also noticed that when the clutch is depressed, if you raise the hood, you can see the firewall flexing quite a bit where the clutch master cylinder is located.we replaced the clutch slave cylinder and it did not help the issue.in my reading online, i have noticed many complaints from people related to the factory welds holding the clutch assembly to the firewall are failing.it seems to be a widespread issue for subaru imprezas 2008-2014.i would expect this to be a factory recall.my son can no longer use the car and we are unsure on how to fix the issue.thank you for your assistance..
For several months now on my wife 2008 subaru impreza wrx when the clutch is depressed i have heard a cracking/squeaking noise. I brought it to a mechanic and he told me that he sees the firewall flexing when the clutch is beginning to engage. It looks as if the welds on the firewall are cracked and no matter what parts he changes it will not fix the problem that is why it is hard to get the car in gear and will eventually break completely. We looked online and this is a common problem with this car, dealerships are changing several parts and nothing will fix this safety issue. This is most definitely a manufacturer issue and should be recalled since it is a major safety concern.
The fire wall broke and the pistons had nothing but problems then it blew the crank
I bought my car used, 38 months old and 33,000 miles, and noticed the clutch was very hard to press down.i thought since its a performance driven car, that's just the way it was.after driving for about 3000 miles i was shifting from 1st to 2nd and when i pressed in the clutch there was a loud pop.the throwout bearing seized and completely disabled the clutch assembly.i was told that the throwout bearing wasn't sliding all the way out so the clutch was always somewhat engaged and this is what caused the failure.they said everything needed to be replaced; throwout bearing, clutch plate, pressure plate, and flywheel.
The welded clutch bracket behind the dash board broke, making my clutch pedal useless and my master cylinder flex forward badly. This is unacceptable. My car is not under warranty anymore and this is a 14 hour labor job. Any other power train related repair would be expected at this mileage, but there should never be a welded bracket that breaks.
The car began making a loud squealing noise when the clutch was depressed, it stalled out 5 times in 11 blocks, and it started to smell. I stopped at the nearest mechanic to my work and they were nice enough to let me leave it there for the day even though they do not do clutch work. After numerous discussions with subaru service, they finally seemed to agree to work with me and investigate why this happened. At first, they seemed to want to disregard the problem because i am a woman and they really made it sound like i was to blame (ie, bad driving). I explained to them over and over that my other car is a 15 year old manual jetta with the original clutch, so the problem is not bad driving. After much back and forth, subaru paid for the entire replacement of the clutch and throwout bearing, as well as some hydraulic hoses and even the tow to the dealer. In the end, i was happy with the end result, but i really think that subaru needs to own up and admit that something is wrong with the 2008 impreza clutch.
Had a squeaky clutch pedal for the past few months. Yesterday it became very hard to shift into gear. I noticed when the clutch was depressed, both the brake and clutch pedals moved about 2" to the left. Looking further, it looks like the sport weld have given way where the brace mounts to the firewall. Researching i found many people with the same issue. Car is almost undriveable and unsafe.
Cpsc:i1490369a. 2008 subaru impreza. Consumer stated the welds that hold the clutch bracket to the firewall failed, causing creaking, popping and increased pressure to fully depress the clutch pedal. *ln
There started to be a clicking / squeaking sound when depressing the clutch.brought the car to multiple dealerships to diagnose the problem without any answers - they continued to apply lubricant.made it to 106,000 miles on the original clutch, had it replaced as routine maintenance with the goal of the sound going away.the sound and clicking continued, yet the car continued to drive normally.at the time of clutch replacement, the entire pedal assembly moved as one unit when depressing the clutch - this continued to be an undiagnosed problem (yet the car continued to drive normally).brought car to dealership for routine maintenance, again complained about the noise - was informed about the firewall weld issue being the cause for the noise.firewall welds were replaced without cost to me.upon picking up the car, the squeaking and clicking noise was still present.upon inspection under the steering column / dash, it was noted that a connecting bar (clutch / brake) was fractured and flexes upon depression of the clutch.estimated cost of repair is about $1000.i have called subaru of america, and they are investigating about whether or not this will be covered.i will not purchase a subaru again.this is my first subaru, and it will be my last.
While getting into gear and switching gears, the clutch pedal was squeaking. The squeaking would come and go. The clutch eventually gave out making the car undriveable. The car was difficult to put into gear at low speeds and experienced a slipping clutch at high speeds. I took it to the dealership and the mechanic discoveredthat the welds in the firewall were broken which caused the clutch failure. The mechanic estimated the cost of repairing the welds to be approximately $2,000 and the cost of repairing the clutch and flywheel approximately $1,600. The total approximate cost of the repair would be $3,600 for defective welds in the car's firewall. I have yet to have the car repaired as the dealership is attempting to contact subaru to find out if they will cover some of the costs of the repairs.
We had a new clutch installed and the brake pedal and clutch pedal now move together. Simultaneously this not only is a safety issue but has potential to cause premature clutch and brake failure.
Welds on clutch pedal assembly failed causing poor clutch feel and excessive noise. There are several spot welds on the assembly the clutch pedal mounts to which attach it to the firewall. Some of these welds broke and now give the car an unusual feeling response to the pressing of the clutch. In addition there is now excessive noise from the clutch assembly that is persistent. With some of the welds no longer functioning the clutch assembly is no longer adequately secured to the firewall and there is a risk the remaining welds could break. This would cause complete clutch failure possibly during use on the road. With a sub-par connection to the firewall now there is noticeable bending and flexing of the firewall inside the engine compartment near the clutch cylinder and the brake master cylinder. The flexing of the firewall could eventually impact the ability of the brake master cylinder to performance at top performance or possibly fail.
I own a 2008 subaru impreza wrx with a stock clutch.for approximately 2 years i have been hearing creaking and/or clicking noises when engaging the clutch pedal.in april of 2013 chatham subaru in ga replaced my clutch due to the metal clutch fork wearing through at the pivot point within the bell-housing.they also noted a very hard clutch pedal and spongy brakes before the repair.they replaced the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, fork and master cylinder (i replaced the slave cylinder before i brought it in) all of which i paid for.initially the clutch felt great (brake feel was unchanged), but has since began to harden again.i began to look online for a solution and found that there are spot welds that break between the firewall and the mounting bracket the clutch pedal assembly is attached to (https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=wrx+spot+welds).i removed the necessary items to inspect the welds and they did unfortunately fail.
My clutch pedal starting squeaking in january.i thought it was squeaking because it was cold outside and thought that the problem would go away once the weather got warmer.however this is not the case and upon inspection, my spot welds are broken where the clutch attaches to the firewall.after a search, i have found that this is an extremely common problem with this model car and no recall has been issued.i have also found that many people have not had any luck at all by trying to get the dealer to fix the issue.it is definitely a flaw with the car and not an isolated incident with just me.
Since i have purchased this vehicle brand new with only 85 miles on it.i have been having issues with the clutch being extra tight, and after a month or 2 the clutch kept making a squeaking noise. I have sent it to subaru many times and they have always stated that the clutch is fine and they did not hear anything.i would like something to be done...it has cost me over 5,000.00 to try and fix the problem over the course of 5 years and i still have the same issue as when i first purchased the car.
A loud squeak is occurring when i press and release my clutch.i had my clutch replaced about 10k miles ago due to a seized throwout bearing.i brought it to the dealer, they lubed it all up but squeak is still there.the tech said the noise is actually coming from the bracket that is mounted to the firewall under the dash.after a few hours of research, i have found numerous posts about this issue and it lies with the welds holding the bracket being faulty and breaking.this causes the firewall to flex and the whole pedal assembly, clutch and brake, to move around while in operation.
As many others have noted regarding the subaru impreza wrx, the welds that connect the clutch to the firewall have been broken. Took it into a local dealer and he said that this was a common problem and that i would need to take it to an auto body shop.
Clutch pedal on 2008 wrx has developed a creaking noise every time it is depressed. Brake pedal shifts forward and to the left upon depression of clutch pedal. This is a reasonably well documented problem of the clutch pedal assembly spot weld joints failing.

The vehicle developed a crack in the fire wall. Every time i press my clutch pedal there is flexing in theassembly and makes a loud crack/squeak sound. Its a daily driver vehicle so its never been raced or tracked. Due to this fire wall crack (which might be dangerous in fire/accident) my transmission gears and syncros have been worn out due to the clutch not releasing properly. I know i am not the only one with this problem, i would hope that subaru of america will one day make a recall for this terrible problem because i don't think that i should be responsible for a huge defect like this, the vehicle is no longer safe for many reasons and is wearing out my internal components every day. Please help me!
Loud groaning noise coming from clutch pedal each time pedal is depressed to shift the car.on closer inspection of the noise come to find out that the entire (clutch and brake) pedal assembly is flexing and the firewall of the car is deflecting each time the pedal is actuated.looking at how the pedal assembly is attached to the vehicle believe that with enough cycles the pedal assembly could become displaced due to failure of the pedal assembly.while my vehicle has high mileage this is due to long distance travel for work.an owner living in an urban area may have a higher duty cycle with the pedals and experience issues sooner.
The weld that holds the bracket for the clutch and brake to the fire wall is cracked.this crack represents a possible safety issue if it should completely fail.without the bracket being properly attached to the firewall, the brakes and clutch become inoperable.this is a known issue by subaru and their lack of action shows a carelessness that is putting american consumers at risk. Thank you for your immediate assistance.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza wrx. The contact stated that when shifting gears, a crackling noise was present. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact notified the manufacturer and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 70,000.
My 2008 subaru impreza wrx has had a "hard clutch pedal". Im an auto tech at a dealer so i took a look at it. I checked the spring and the pedal. I found the pedal would bend the mounting location under the dash when pushed in. I looked on the firewall under my wiper arms where the welds are at. The weld that holds the clutch and brake pedals to the firewall is cracked and now is cutting a hole in the firewall. I checked online for some help with the problem, and i found out im not the only one with this problem. I took the car to my local subaru dealer. The dealer told me i needed a clutch. I ask them to look at the firewall welds that hold the clutch and brake pedals to the car. They told me to go away and not bring my car back to them! i called subaru of america after this all happened. They told me to take it to another dealer. So i did to one " 3 hours away ". The next dealer told me the car is not safe to drive and weld is cracked on the firewall, and they called subaru of america (soa.) soa never called the dealer back and i took the car home and waited. They called me 5 days later and told me i would have to pay 1/2 of the bill to fix the oem defect on the firewall welds. I feel as though they don't care about this safety issue even though after some research online it is clear that im not the only one having this same issue. I have videos and pictures showing the defective welds and can produce them for you. I noticed this issue around 58000 miles. Vehicle now has 60500 miles.updated 02/19/13
This 2008 subaru impreza has been plagued as have many others by a manufacturer chassis defect.the firewall/bulkhead between the driver and engine has 5 spot welds broken which initially are meant to secure the clutch and brake assembly.these weld breaks are a serious safety issue as they are causing difficulty in engaging clutch and brakes, as well as a squeak noise every time the clutch is depressed.as this is not an insignificant wear item but part of the chassis/frame which is a dangerous defect as complete failure during operation of the vehicle can cause catastrophic accidents, further investigation and action on this matter should be taken by the nhtsa.this is certainly a recall issue.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza wrx. The contact stated that he experienced difficulty shifting gears at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the clutch assembly broke loose from its weld. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was 130,000.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. While driving 50 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the stopping distance was increased. In addition, the clutch became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the bracket that holds the clutch and brake assembly needed to be re-welded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,834.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven by a valet service. When the vehicle was returned, the clutch failed and the pedals moved independently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 62,000.
I have a 2008 wrx and i'm getting the apparent common problem in which the clutch assembly is breaking away from the firewall! i noticed early in the year that i was getting a popping sound when i depressed the clutch pedal. It stopped for a while and then started doing it again. I did some research into what this could possibly be, and i found many complaints about this. I looked to see if my assembly had been broken, and sure enough it is! this is clearly a safety issue as stated by many others because of the firewall now having holes in it! this needs to be a recall!
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza wrx (n/a). The contact stated that the clutch suddenly failed as it would grip then not grip which caused the vehicle to shift into neutral and not accelerate. The failure was intermittent. The clutch plate did not seem to be grooved properly. When the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, the contact was told that the problem was driver error. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000 and the current mileage was approximately 20,000.
The clutch pedal on my 2008 wrx makes a loud creaking noise every time it's depressed. When i investigated the noise, i noticed that the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly (attached to the forward firewall) shifts approx 1/4 inch every time the clutch pedal is depressed. I found that the three spot welds securing the clutch pedal bracket to the forward firewall were broken. From the outside of the firewall, just under the windshield wipers, i saw the spot welds pulling away from the firewall every time the clutch pedal was depressed. This allows the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly to move, causing the creaking noise. If the bracket completely separates from the firewall, the clutch may become completely inoperative - especially dangerous while driving.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact stated that the clutch pedal became very wobbly and almost detached. The contact stated that the manufacturer sent him a technical service bulletin extending the clutch attachment component; however, the dealer (subaru superstore of chandler, 1050 gilbert rd, chandler, az 85286) never had the parts to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000. The vin was unknown.
Every time i push in my clutch, within the first few inches there is a "click" that occurs.to my knowledge the 08 subaru impreza has had an issue with the clutch pedal assembly breaking welds on the fire wall, thus causing the "click" sound.
While my air bag was deployed during an accident, the seat belt got unlocked at the same time.
I have a 2008 impreza. Ever since i purchased it thepassenger sideseatbelt locks up right away and tightens to the point that you have to take it off. It has been replaced and still does not work right.
Problem began with a squeaking sound and would click when depressing clutch. Then the clutch pedal would stick and not come back up. Clutch pedal unable to completely engage making it difficult to get the car into gear. Movement in clutch/brake pedal causing hazard while driving due to displacement. Welds in clutch/brake assembly at the firewall are broken.
We had a new clutch installed and the brake pedal and clutch pedal now move together. Simultaneously this not only is a safety issue but has potential to cause premature clutch and brake failure.

Spot welds on firewall that support the pedal assembly have cracked/broke causing the brake pedal to flex and move while pushing down on the clutch.

As many others have noted regarding the subaru impreza wrx, the welds that connect the clutch to the firewall have been broken. Took it into a local dealer and he said that this was a common problem and that i would need to take it to an auto body shop.
My brake pedal / clutch assembly is separating from my firewall on my 2008 wrx sedan at the spot welds. I can see this through my cowl support under the windshield washer motor.i heard lots of squealing and popping and now the assembly moves under light braking and clutch depression.it is now past a noise issue, and now is safety issue.my car only has 42,5000 miles.
2008 subaru impreza wrx sedan abs issues.light snow/wet pavement coming to a stop anywhere from 5-25 mphs the abs system locks the wheels causing it to slide.abs pulsates but does not seem to let go.
I own a 2008 wrx sti subaru that had complete engine failure due to fact the dealer could not perform a critical ecm recall that was a direct result of engine failure. Subaru refused to cover it under warrenty. The car has been a problem from the start also had brake system issues they refuse to repair.
The pedal assembly of my vehicle has disconnected from my firewall due to faulty welds. My clutch and brake pedals now have an unsafe amount of play and is causing issues with braking and disengaging my clutch. Subaru of america refused to repair the problem with my car.
On nov. 20, 2008, flatirons subaru and subaru of america sold me a new 2008 impreza wrx sti with defective brakes. On dec. 15, 2008, while commuting to work i was involved in a car accident. I pushed down the brake pedal, but the brakes failed to engage (the brake pedal was hard). As i was driving cautiously, no one was injured and no other vehicle, except mine, suffered damage to the front headlight.the car was less than a month old had fewer that 650 miles on odometer. The service department inspected the car on dec. 17, the service representative told me that brake vacuum booster hose valve was defective.the dealer's service manager in refusing to accept any responsibility wrote to me stating the problem is intermittent that only occurs in extreme cold weather, and subaru performs most of the inspections at the factory on new cars. The dealer performs a very limited inspection with a quick test drive before the sale.although the dealership repaired the brakes defect under warranty on dec. 22, they took no responsibility for the results of the defect or for not properly inspecting the car prior to selling it to me.the only response i have received from subaru of america is that i should take up my damage with my insurance carrier. If subaru can continue to sell poorly inspected cars with defective brakes without any consequences, they will continue to do so.that's not fair to me and certainly not fair to any person who wrecks because of the brake defect and perhaps injures someone. I think car companies should not sell defective, inadequately inspected new cars to the public and i am asking for your help to enforce this.upon your request, i can provide a copy of the service invoices on the repair done on the brakes; email and mail correspondence with subaru of america and flatirons subaru.
Front wheel shimmy that increases stopping distance and effects handling. Shimmy comes and goes in intensity but is always present. Shimmy causes the wheel and rotor to shake which prevents the brake pads from stopping the vehicle as intended. This problem caused me to run a stop sign and almost get broadsided by another vehicle. The shimmy still exists and has not been fixed despite complaining about the problem to subaru and the subaru dealer. Subaru acknowledged there is a problem and stated that there is an axle balancing problem or a bearing run out problem, but has yet to fix the problem.
Subject: possible car recall subaru imreza - in this model basic brake mount snaps commentsdue to road safety and the possible serious threat that could be caused by cars on roads in the u.s. I'd like to provide the following information. The case concerns subaru impreza manufactured in 2007 and 2009. These cars may have a faulty basic brake mount, which can cause it to snap . The design and strength of the fastening elements turns out to be unsuited to the prevailing tension. Many such vehicles are on the roads in the u.s. And pose a direct threat to human life. Because i am a user of one of these cars (subaru impreza wrx vin [xxx] ) and have personally experienced such a case, i am in possession of all documentation. On your request i will send any information on the car and the event along with photographic documentation. I hope that the case was incidental and related to only this particular model, but there is a high probability of structural defects. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza wrx. The contact stated that when depressing the clutch, the brake pedal would move over an inch. Poor paint durability. Finish appears to be easily damaged by "normal" road "dust".
There is a clicking and popping noise coming from under my dash board on the driver side only when pressing and releasing the clutch. Also, the clutch master cylinder is moving due to flex on the fire wall. This is a known problem to subaru of america and its engineering department and they have also fixed cars with this problem. My car has not been fixed because they have so far yet refused to fix it. The main fault is the clutch pedal bracket which is welded to the bulkhead has a bad weld whichcan lead to the driver being unable to clutchthe car posing a safety issue and the possibility of an accident incurring.
Paint chipped off while washing.

The contact was informed by the manufacturer that there were no recalls and the vehicle was outside of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
Firewall. Firewall broken, do not have the full range of motion that my clutch needs in order for the gears to go in.
Chassis fatigue and cracking resulting in damage/potential compromise of driver controls.welds for clutch bracket have failed resulting in cracking of firewall.
The pedal assembly of my vehicle has disconnected from my firewall due to faulty welds. My clutch and brake pedals now have an unsafe amount of play and is causing issues with braking and disengaging my clutch. Subaru of america refused to repair the problem with my car.
Spot welds on firewall that support the pedal assembly have cracked/broke causing the brake pedal to flex and move while pushing down on the clutch.
3 of 7 spot welds have failed for pedal assembly support bracket.

Clutch pedal on 2008 wrx has developed a creaking noise every time it is depressed. Brake pedal shifts forward and to the left upon depression of clutch pedal. This is a reasonably well documented problem of the clutch pedal assembly spot weld joints failing.
When driven on dry pavement the car behaves normally. However, when the car is driven on hard packed snow or wet pavement the rear end of the car wobbles violently from side to side, making it highly unstable. This problem occurs at relatively slow speeds (below 50 mph). This problem increases when the car is subject to loads such as additional passengers or cargo. Similar complaints have referred to the problem as "ghost walking".
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated and the traction control system failed.

Paint on car easily dulled by normal washing. Lots of swirl marks and streaks.
Firewall. Firewall broken, do not have the full range of motion that my clutch needs in order for the gears to go in.
Manual transmission 2008 subaru impreza wrx, have trouble switching gears, and specifically putting vehicle in reverse from a cold start. For a while heard a popping noise when pushing the clutch down. But switching gears is very difficult/clunky and placing the vehicle in reverse from a cold start is extremely difficult. After doing research this appears to be related to subaru bulletin 12-184-15 (an issue with welds on the firewall). The brackets/welds on the firewall seem to be breaking/are broken.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. While driving the vehicle would accelerate for a half second without pressure being applied to the pedal.the contact took the vehicle to a dealer. The dealer informed the contact that the accelerator pedal was designed for a half second acceleration. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic and the local mechanic informed the contact that the ecu needed to be reprogrammed. The contact has not had the vehicle repaired.the failure mileage was 255.updated 03/11/10while driving at any speed the vehicle would continue to accelerate as though the accelerator pedal was engage for upto 1.5 seconds after the consumer had removed his foot.the dealer informed the consumerthe vehicle was performing within design specifications.the consumer went to two independent mechanics who stated the ecu that controlled the accelerator pedal behaviorwould need to be re-programmed. 2008 subaru impreza, standard transmission.at speeds under 10 mph, when clutch is fully depressed, and transmission is in first gear, engine will rev up to 2500-4000 rpm's.this only occurs when vehicle is coasting forward at slow speeds and when in gear with clutch pushed to the floor.when brake is tapped or gear placed to neutral engine will return to normal idle. This problem occurs 90 percent of the time when coasting forward.the engine speed varies each occurrence but general speeds to around 2500 rpm's with rare jumps to 4000+ rpm's.

The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. The contact stated that while exiting a drive-thru, the vehicles exhibited a loud bang and the vehicle immediately accelerated abnormally. The contact attempted to apply the brakes, but there was no response causing the contact to crash into a tree. The contact was severely injured and was taken to the hospital. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact was told that the throttle had erroneously opened fully and would not close, causing the vehicle to accelerate abnormally. The failure and the current mileages were 20,000.
The fire wall is cracked and the welds are broken which is causing my clutch to not disengage properly and the clutch pedal to not function correctly.
My 2008 subaru impreza has developed a film on the inside of the windshield which causes a very unsafe situation. I am unable to see at night or with on coming cars with lights on. It has been to a dealer twice and they have cleaned it but the problem comes back after about two weeks. It is dangerous!
2008 subaru impreza the windshield gets covered by a film during cool/cold weather and impairs your vision while driving and you need to stop and remove the film on the windshield . Yes a definite safety hazard. Subaru denies any problems. There are several other complaints.
The visors keep breaking.when they break, they drop down, impeding vision.there is no telling when it may happen.the passenger side visor was replaced in 2010.it is now broken again and so is the drivers side.recently, my drivers side visor broke and dropped down while driving on a busy highway.i was lucky i didn't wreck.the visors are over $100.00 each.they are made with a plastic piece that is not able to do the job.a serious driving hazard!
Ever since i purchased my vehicle (new), there has been a terrible film on the windshield and interior windows. Sometimes it is so bad, it is almost impossible to see out of the windows (especially with light reflections and sunsets, etc.). My dealer has informed me that it has had many similar complaints. I have tried cleaning the windows with cleaners and nothing seems to help.the problem is even worse during the winter months when the defroster is being used more often.to date, my dealer (as well as a different one) has been unable to find a solution to the problem.this is a serious safety issue that limits visibility from the vehicle.
Driving in rain with windshield wipers on.wipers crossed and made a "x" then twisted and malfunctioned.
Film on windshield. Brought in car 6 times for the same problem. They washed it, put it in a paint booth 3 times to "cure" the plastic , and last wee they replaced the cabin air filter. The film is still there it may go away for a day or 2 then it comes back. The film is most noticeable at night when oncoming car light hit it and as the sun is setting it is difficult to see through it. This has been going on sincethe beginning of december , we bought the car at the end of october and do not drive it all the time.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza.the contact stated that the windshield wipers will periodically stop working and fail to move altogether, even when they are in the upright position.he must pull the vehicle over and manually pull the wipers down with his hands.the failure has occurred over ten times while driving 20 mph.most of the time the wipers work normally, but during rainy and snowy conditions, the failure can cause poor visibility.the subaru dealer could not determine the cause of the failure.the manufacturer stated that if the dealer could not find a failure, there was nothing to repair.the current and failure mileages were 10,000.
The visors just drop down while i drive. I tried to get it fixed but they told me know recall and out of warranty. What a hazard. I would be driving on the highway at speed limit and thank gosh when it dropped down i didn't lose control of the car.
A fog keeps developing on the interior front windshield and side windows which impairs the driver's ability to see clearly through the windshield. It is impossible to keep the windshield clear of this fog while the defrost is running. This is a serious safety risk that limits the driver's visibility.
At 32,000 miles my drivers side sun visor spring mechanism broke during a cold morning(10-15f).it was replaced under warranty.now at about 85,000 miles it broke again and i need to replace it myself.the dealership surprisingly had several in stock which was odd because this is not something a dealer would normally stock unless there is a trending problem with it.it's not me abusing it as i am don't treat my things in a fast forceful manner, i've also never had a problem with any other vehicle in hundred of thousands of miles.yet, i have 2 of the exact same item failures in less than 100,000 miles.the safety issue here is that when the sun visor breaks, it hangs down perfectly vertical blocking the drivers view of the road.i pretty much had to drive to work holding the visor with my left hand.when i arrived at work i grabbed a screw driver and removed the visor until it was replaced.
The driver side visor failed to remain in position. After hitting a small bump the visor flipped down from it's position against the roof to a completely vertical position blocking my view of the road. I am only 5 foot 7 inches, but when the visor is completely down my vision is completely blocked. The visor would no longer remain up against the roof, nor fully forward against the windshield. I had to pull over and remove the screws holding the visor mount to the roof. When i did this the shaft that connects the visor to the roof mount came out of the visor. The plastic portion had broken completely inside the visor. The force holding the visor in the up position had been getting progressively weaker for more than a year before it failed completely. Searching the web it appears this is a common complaint. Without a visor it is now definitely more hazardous to drive into the sun, i keep a baseball cap in the car for these situations while i attempt to find an inexpensive replacement. My dealer wants to charge me $140 for a replacement visor.
Serious windshield wiper failure of entire linkage system caused by a hold down nut coming loose from main linkage.my wife was driving on the highway during a rain storm when both windshield wipers failed.she narrowly escaped an accident as there was no place to safely pull the vehicle over and she lost total visibility.the 2008 impreza outback sport was taken to a nearby subaru dealer where they fixed the problem by simply tightening the hold down nut which came loose.needless to say, i was very disappointed by this serious safety issue from a new car that was rated this top safety pick.the car had 9800 miles on it when this incident occurred.
Drivers sun visor rotates down unpredictably, blocking vision for average or tall drivers.a small bump can trigger this.
I am getting frost on the inside of my front windshield sometimes in cold weather.beginning about november, it is also covered daily in a film i can't seem to get rid of with my hand.it keeps returning.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza.the contact stated that there is a greasy film that forms on the windows approximately every 1-3 days.the failure was noticed while driving 40 mph.the failure occurs on all of the windows, but is the worst on the windshield.the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer called the manufacturer and they stated that the cause of the failure was unknown.however, the contact was advised to continue cleaning the windows and the failure should eventually cease.the current and failure mileages were 2,900. 2008 subaru impreza.
Windshield wipers sometimes stop working and get caught up in each other, the bolt need to be tightened many times, has almost caused multiple accidents.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza.all of the windows in the vehicle are fogging and creating a thick film.the failure prevents the contact from seeing and she must roll down the windows to make a left or right turn.the films worsens in cold weather.the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times and they stated that there was some type of vapor coming from the interior.the current mileage was 3,000 and failure mileage was 250.
The driver's side sun visor internal cam broke while vehicle was being driven such that the sun visor hangs at the lowest point, and is no longer adjustable.this obscures the driver's field of vision when driving the car and thus presents a safety hazard.this appears to be a common defect in the sunvisor design/manufacturebased upon identical user forum reporting.subaru america refuses to acknowledge responsibility for this defect in design or materials workmanship.
Front windshield defroster.
I cannot keep the windshield on my new 2008 impreza fog free. The dealer noticed a "film" on it and cleaned it. The fogging returned after a day. I've used anitifogging solution that lasts about 3 days and the "film" and fogging returns. This can be very dangerous after dark since when the fogging is most pronounced. There must be something inside the car (possibly a silicone spray) that's causing this. Whatever it is, it hinders the drivers vision and is dangerous.
The contact owns a 2008 subaru impreza. Upon entering the vehicle, the contact noticed there was frost on the inside of the front windshield. The contact also stated a white film developed on the inside of the front windshield when using the heater. The frost showed up intermittently during cold weather and the white film was noticed whenever the heater was operated. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed. The failure and current mileages were 36,000.

Film build up on inside windshield impedes driver's view.explanation given, this is a result of an ozone effect combined with fumes and vapors of new car products and materials.no specific time frame for resolution but only that it should lessen as car is driven for an indefinite period of time.solution given was to allow outside air circulation and continue to clean inside windshield frequently.is there a health hazard by inhalation of occupants?visibility is affected regardless of time of day.

A hazy film continually builds up on the front windshield causing reduced visibility.
Since i have owner this car, every time it rains, the windshield wiper stop working after they have been operating for about 10 minutes.doesn't make a difference if it is abrief shower or a down pour.the dealer informed the consumer, it may be a short circuit.
