Front passenger seat airbag sensor began not recognizing passengers sitting in the seat shortly after purchasing my brand new 2018 subaru forester. This started occuring while driving, turning off and on. After a while, it completely stopped recognizing any person sitting in the seat even after only just turning the car on. The dealership replaced it since it was in the warranty period but blamed us for it malfunctioning saying that we must have gotten the seat wet, causing the sensor to fail. We told them that we hadn't ever gotten the seat wet. One year and 3 months after we'd gotten our forester back from the dealership after the airbag sensor repair, a passenger that sat in the seat brought to our attention the fact that the part of the seatbelt that sits to the left of the front passenger seat was loose. We took it to the same dealership again and they told us that the technician had reinstalled the seat belt incorrectly after the airbag sensor repair and that it was missing a part and that's why it was loose and not anchored properly. They were ordering the part and it would arrive within a week. When we returned a week later they informed us that they ordered the wrong part and now we'd have to wait another week for the seat belt to be anchored properly. Still waiting for the correct part to arrive for the seat belt to be anchored properly.
Passenger side airbag sensor malfunctioning, vehicle has heated seats. Sometimes when passenger is seated the passenger airbag does not turn on and the airbag malfunction light comes on. There is a recall for the same issue for the same year model subaru recall #19v701000.however, my particular subaru does not fall within the date range listed on original recall, though it appears to be the exact same problem based on the description.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The air bag system was deactivated. The seat belt alert was activated. The vehicle was taken to subaru of kennesaw (905 ernest w barrett pkwy nw, kennesaw, ga 30144) however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was later diagnosed and the contact was informed that there was a wiring harness connection failure, brake pedal sensor and that the seat bottom needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that she felt unsafe operating the vehicle and requested that the manufacturer buy back the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown.
Passenger side seat sensor detects person sitting in seat and turns on the airbag when the seat is empty. Notifications turns on at car startup and will turn on while vehicle is moving. Car was bought may 31st, 2018. This behavior started on the first cold day in my area (roughly late november/early december 2018).
Nhtsa recall 19v-701 (subaru recall wum-98) includes only foresters with seat heaters manufactured from 1/20/15 - 8/1/17.my forester was manufactured on 6/6/18 and is not currently included. Page 3 of product campaign bulletin wum-98r revised 11/20/19 (copy attached) states if the date code on the front passenger seat cushion wiring harness is 18074 (74th day of 2018) or before and the supplier code is 6578, "the harness is ng and the seat cushion assembly must be replaced". As you can see from the attached photo (img_1295), the date code on the harness label in my vehicle is 18019 (19th day of 2018), the supplier code is 6578, and the subaru part number (64084sg020) matches the part number on the defective harness label on page 3 of wum-98r. Also, how can the cut off date for defective wiring harnesses (74th day of 2018) be 7 1/2 months after the last recalled vehicle was produced on 8/1/2017?what happened to all the defective wiring harnesses made in that 7 1/2 month period ? after several emails to subaru customer service, subaru still refuses to admit that the wiring harness in my vehicle is defective, stating only that the vehicle was not manufactured between 1/20/15 and 8/1/17, even though according to page 3 of wum-98r the harness is clearly defective. Note also that page 3 of part 573 safety recall report 19v-701 claims the wiring harness defect was corrected on 2/19/2018, and lists 17 recalled part numbers, but does not include the part number in the photograph of the defective harness label on page 3 of wum-98r (and the harness label in my vehicle).this recall clearly warrants further investigation by nhtsa.
The airbag system became disarmed and seatbelt warning light came on when smartphone weighing 3lbs was on front passenger seat. This occurred multiple timesthe passenger front seat sensor is supposed to become armed when a 40lb passenger sits in passenger front seat only. Reading through the owners manual states that both driver and passenger airbags may not deploy which puts driver and passengers at risk for injury.
Passenger airbag occasionally shows as 'off' even though an occupant is in the seat. The info center (as shown in the attached pictures) also indicates an issue with an airbag and to check the owner's manual. A similar airbag defect was reported in nhtsa bulletin - 19v701000 - subaru wum-98, however for whatever reason my vehicle was not included even though it has similar symptons.
For 2 months since may 19, 2018, the airbag warning sensor light goes on my dashboard while driving and the passenger airbag 'off' warning light also goes on ' see attached photo.this occurrence happens almost every time i drive my vehicle.i brought the vehicle to the dealer twice for repair but the problem still exists.subaru ' starlink program has notified me with numerous emails that i should have this serious safety issue fixed as soon as possible.after not receiving any satisfaction from the dealer, i called and written twice to subaru usa headquarters in cherry hill, nj explaining this serious safety issue of having no active passenger airbag while driving.they stated that a part has to be ordered to repair this serious issue but it has now been 4 weeks since my initial call to headquarters with no results.i feel that they are stalling as there may not be an easy fix available.i'm extremely concern to drive the vehicle without an active passenger airbag protection for the safety of my wife if we were in an accident and there was no airbag deployment.
The passenger seat airbag has not been working for about 9 months making it dangerous for a passenger (or not available for passenger seat occupancy). The parts have been on order for months but still not delivered.there are many of these on backorder indicating to me a significant safery problem.
My 2018 subaru forester is experiencing faulty activation of the passenger seat air bag light since june 2018. Vehicle was purchased new in august 2017. The dashboard reads that there is no airbag onfor the passenger while someone was seated there and the car was sitting or in motion. This has happened on and off since june 2018. The light reads periodically that none of the airbags are on. After bringing it to my subaru dealer in august 2018, i was told that a part would be ordered and that it was the passenger seat cushion that needed replaced. After waiting a month, i contacted the dealership and they stated that subaru has to create and manufacture this seat cushion still, and they had no idea when this would be done. I have been unable to drive my forester for almost 6 months now due to the safety issues of driving without the guarantee of airbags deploying. The dealership has no answer as to when subaru will even start creating this new part. I am surprised it is not a recall since it is an airbag issue, and the dealership stated they had at least 7 other customers currently with the same issue. I have now been without my new vehicle and driving a loaner car from the dealer. There seems to be no end in sight as to when this issue will be fixed or even addressed by subaru.
Airbag light comes on, passenger side airbag says 'off' on panel when person is on seat. Starlink emails me that there is an airbag issue.
When my husband shuts off the car, gets out and refuels, i remain seated in the passenger seat. He starts the car and drives off. The passenger airbag light reads that the airbag is off even though i am seated in the passenger seat. The first time it happened starlink told us to take the car in to be checked, but the didn't find anything wrong with it. This has happened so many times that i get out when he gets gas, so we don't have to pull over on the highway and shut off and get out to reactivate the airbag. I have taken the car in to the dealership at least 3 times for this.
When a passenger sits in the front passenger seat of my subaru forester, the airbag notification light indicates that the airbag is "off". It is my understanding that there was a recall for this very issue but when i contacted subaru to get it fixed, they said that my vehicle wasn't on their list of recalled vehicles and would not service it under the recall.
Some time in august 2018 i noticed that the air bag warning light would randomly come on indicating that the air bag on the passenger side of my new 2018 subaru forester was turned off even when an adult passenger was seated.i called the dealer who at first couldn't explain it.it happened again a few times, after which i notified the dealer who determined the passenger side indicator switch was likely faulty, and around october 1, 2018 they ordered a replacement part.the indicator light comes on randomly (indicating the bag is turned off) when an adult is in the seat - i have had the passenger shift positions which sometimes turns it back on; i have pulled over, turned off the engine, had passenger get out of the vehicle and get back in, turn on the engine and sometimes that turns the bag back on.sometimes the indicator shows the bag is on (with passenger in seat) but in the middle of the drive, the bag will suddenly turn off and we have to do the "in-and-out" dance to get the bag to turn on again.at least one time, the bag turned on when no one was in the seat!these things happen sometimes when the car is still in park (but engine turned on), and sometimes when the car is in motion.totally random.this occurs (so far) during city driving.the dealer originally said the part would probably arrive mid october, then late october, etc.i called subaru hq and talked to them about the issue.they will "attempt to expedite" but said the part is "on back order" with eta mid november, then late november "maybe," but they really aren't sure when they can get the part.in the mean time, i am nervous about driving with passengers in the front seat without proper protection in the event of a crash.i have been in touch a number of times with both the dealer and subaru hq in nj regarding this issue.
Dealer is unable to get parts for the recall.safety recall: wum98|nhtsa campaign: 19v701000autonation subaru is saying it's going to be about 2 months for them to get parts. This recall has been active since october 2019.address.9955 e arapahoe rdcentennial, co 80112
Oct. 25, 2018. Car in garage stationary/started vehicle/ dashboard red warning light of seat with belt/airbag. Turned vehicle off. 1/2 hour later, returned to car, saw headlights on, two front doors locked/didn't start car. Called dealer and took in. Said airbag problem and need passenger seat replacement-but on big backorder/months and months. No firm date. Said choice: drive it at risk/ or take a rental. Gm gave us loaner. Gm said this is first one he has heard of at their dealership.
The passenger airbag system intermittently turns off even if someone is sitting in the seat. It can be while parked or during driving. There's no set cause or circumstances that trigger this.
While driving the vehicle with a front side passenger, intermittently over the past three weeks, the display screen indicates "passenger air bag off", the display briefly gives a message to have the srs checked, and the red airbag dashboard light illuminates and remains illuminated for the duration of the trip. (these trips included both city and highway driving.)the dealer (adventure subaru of mentor, ohio) was unable to replicate this problem. More troubling though, the dealer stated that a scan revealed no active or retained alarm codes.this car was built after the end date of recent nhtsa campaign 19v-701, but this problem is exactly as described in that campaign.
The forester has an automatic system that turns off the airbags for the right side front passenger seat when no-one is sitting there or when they do not weigh enough to activate the system.should a person need to sit on a cushion in that seat for whatever reason, the system does not think anyone is there and turns off the airbags.i know several people that need various cushions for back support or other health related reasons or because they have short torsos and feel more comfortable sitting highter.if they use their pillows or cushions, they are not protected by the airbag system.if they don't use their cushions, they are in pain.i have contacted subaru and they say they cannot change the system.i feel this is a safety issue in that passengers will usually use their cushions to avoid pain and hope there is no accident that would need airbag protection.in my opinion, there should be an override to the airbag disable system so adults needing seat cushions can still be protected by the airbag system.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact took the vehicle to annapolis subaru (149 old solomons island rd, annapolis, md 21401, 888-409-1189) because the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently when the vehicle was started. Although the vehicle had been serviced at the dealer, the failure continued. While the contact's wife was driving 55 mph, the preceding vehicle suddenly slammed on the brakes. During this incident, the contact noticed that both the side passenger air bag and the driver's air bag warning indicators were illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a representative would call him back. The contact had not heard back from the manufacturer. The dealer was not notified of the recent failure with the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 8,300.
Front passenger airbag has been intermittently on and off, with and without a passenger, with and without items on the seat. This is the third or maybe fourth occasion vehicle is at the dealer. One of the first times they inspected the car, and their solution was to relocate the "module" (whatever the module is) for that seat. They stated it will solve the problem. A month later the car started to do the passenger airbag warning light on and off again. Car back again to dealer but then light was gone off. Yesterday, sep 23, 2019 car was dropped again at dealer with light on and the car still on, in order not to lose the situation at restart. They just called me and state the seat airbag was replaced $1,100 under warranty, car is 6500 miles or so. That we could not locate anything other than a passenger on that seat. Any item, cellular, tablet, computer, battery, bags, pursues, shopping items, papers, documents on that seat will possibly cause the situation again and they wont cover it under warranty. Also nothing in front of that seat by the floor..??? not possible to recline the back of the seat.... What? this is my first car doing that. I don't care what they say to us, it's their responsibility and a deadly risk drive this car with the passenger light on and a passenger in it and been involved in an accident. This happens with the caron, but parked, stopped waiting for a light to change, moving, going forward, going reverse, and is intermittent.
Subaru forester 2018 air bag won't turn on with adult in front passengers seat. I have several photos to show that it is off for several minutes.not the first time this has happened but the first time i was able to document it.
Airbag alert issued by car computer: 'airbag system needs to be checked'.passenger was in seat and buckled in. Came on when car was started and remained on for duration of drive. Intermittent. Turned off when i went back to take a photo of the message.
There is a current recall affecting 2018 subaru forester's (nhtsa campaign number: 19v701000).i currently own a 2018 forester that the vin number does not match the recall.however my vehicle i doing the exact thing that the recall is for, the passenger side airbag turns off, light comes on and an srs airbag warning message comes on. Took my vehicle to the dealer while still under warranty, they said there was nothing wrong with it, even though there was a trouble code for the passenger side airbag that they just cleared.six months later and now not covered under warranty, vehicle is doing the same thing, turning the airbag off, error message coming on.i feel as though subaru didn't include all of the correct vin number of vehicles that were affected.it creates a safety issue for the passenger, being that the airbag turns off and will not work in the event of a crash.i also don't feel like i should have to pay to fix something that is obviously a problemwith other vehicles of the same year model having the same problem just cause my vin number is not included.they should extend the vin's to all 2018 models.
Ever since i purchased the car, the passenger air bag indicator light has shown 'off.' the nhtsa site shows numerous people have had the same experience.some of those people were advised by subaru service technicians that they must have spilled something on the seat, affecting the sensor.i was told the same when i took my car in.subaru techs ran a diagnostic that indicated no error codes.i discovered on my own the apparent cause of the problem with my car.i have dogs and customarily place a towel on all seats to keep them clean.when i removed the towel my human passenger was seated on, the air bag indicator showed 'on.'if you look at the 2018 subaru manual, this is mentioned in section 1-56.in addition to not using seat covers, cushions, etc., the passenger is advised to take off 'unnecessary items' or sit in the back seat to ensure the air bag will activate.this seems to be a serious design flaw, one which should be brought to subaru service techs and customers' attention.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. While driving at an unknown speed, the front passenger air bag indicator illuminated and flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to prime subaru hyannis (508-778-5066, located at 24 ridgewood ave, hyannis, ma 02601) where it was diagnosed that the seat was wet. The dealer reprogrammed the air bag indicator, but the failure recurred when a passenger occupied the front passenger seat. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensor underneath the seat needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the part was back ordered. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
Takata recall passenger side airbag indicator showed a problem within first 200 miles of driving the new forester.
Passenger air bag light came on two weeks after the 3 year warranty expired.vehicle was purchased on august 4th 2018 and light came on last week on tuesday august 24th.no previous issues.passenger air bag is deactivated even with passenger in the seat.resetting ecu and other basic troubleshooting did not solve the issue.wiggled wires and connectors under seat and light went off but came back on during driving.upon research, this is a known issue with my car that has heated front seats, which mine does.however, for whatever reason, my car vin is not associated with the recall.ods issue.the nhtsa campaign number is 19v701
Srs warning light comes on while vehicle is stationary or in motion at random intervals. Based on my knowledge this means the srs airbag system is completely deactivated. When bringing it to subaru's attention they blamed moisture on the seats messing with the sensors, but the seats have never had a spill on them.
I was in an accident in which a car t-boned my passenger side. No airbags deployed and we suffered injury as a result. The other car that hit us had all air bags deployed. This was a malfunction in the subaru i drive. The accident occurred while i was in motion going 40mph and a car hit me after running a red light going 45mph

The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated that the backup camera's picture quality had become extremely poor and objects behind the vehicle were not visible. The vehicle was taken to wheeling subaru (1 national rd, wheeling, wv) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 5,000.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru foster. The contact stated while parking her vehicle she shifted into park, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a building. The contact mentioned no warning light was illuminated and no strange sound happened before the crash. The vehicle failed to deploy the air bags. The contact sustained whiplash and neck pain but no medical attention was required. Emergency officials were contacted and a police report was filed. The vehicle 's front bumper and headlight was damaged and the building door was broken. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was not notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. Failure mileage was approximately 65,000. The vin was not available.

A few incidents have happened since the latter half of 2020: while at a stop light that turned green, my car stopped moving for a few seconds despite pressing on the gas pedal and the rpm went up to 6/ loudly revved. I was almost rear ended at this light.the car has also had this lack of movement issue on the freeway while in traffic. My car jerks several times on slight inclines especially after surpassing 40 mph. Often times, i cannot accelerate past 40 mph regardless if the drive is on a flat surface or an incline. The rpm will increase, but the gear feels like it will get stuck and the car makes a loud noise. This is the most noticeable going from 40 mph to 50-55 mph. These incidents are on city streets. However, power often gets lost going on to freeways for the same reason. I cannot surpass 40 mph when entering a freeway and was almost sideswiped on the driver's side by an impatient person entering too early where the on-ramp merges with the freeway because of this. While on a freeway, the car will continue to accelerate despite attempting to slow it down by pressing on the brake or coming to a complete stop. This has also happened on city streets and poses a safety issue. The acceleration when this happens is much faster than when i try to manually accelerate the car myself in other contexts, like mentioned above. I believe it is the cvt as this seems to be a common problem with cars of my make, model, and year.
Went to start my car and battery was dead. Got a jump from aaa but since none of the eyesight safety features worked, i had the car towed to subaru and they replaced the battery. I was told i'd need to drive it every day to keep the battery charged. That's absurd. To make things worse, remote start will only work for 2 starts. On the 3rd start, it won't start unless you start the car manually. What's the point of having a remote start if you have to start the car manually every 3 days?
Ikey will not come out of the ignition switch after the car is stopped, put in park, brake [peddle depressed.
While in reverse, audio control is lost.alteration to channel or volume or turning off audio is disabled - which can be highly distracting if the setting were left extremely loud since the audio will initialize several seconds after starting and reversing is already in progress at that time.
Would go to start car and it wouldn't start. Multiple days thought i was doing something wrong g leaving something on, got battery checked they said it was ok just low. It kept doing it, went on for like 2-3 months . Finally i had enough and bought a new battery. Since it happened and replaced battery vehicle idles high like 1-2 in park.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated that after leaving the vehicle parked and undriven for several days, the vehicle failed to start-up. The vehicle had to be jump started. The contact took the vehicle to smith cairns subaru - yonkers (900 central park ave, yonkers, ny 10704, (914) 377-8100) who replaced the battery twice however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.
Outside temperature readings are between 3-7 degrees off. Dealer says that is normal. An i to assume the tire pressure, engine coolant temperature and oil pressure gauges are also off ?
Battery keeps dying without daily use. I drove my vehicle less than a week ago, no lights left on, nothing in the charging ports, no doors open, and still the battery didn't have enough power to start. I've had to call aaa and have neighbors jump start my vehicle a few times but when i get my battery tested i'm told that my battery is fine and that i do not need a new one. Something is draining my battery and i don't know what.
Battery drains for seemingly no reason. The radio or lights are not left on that would make the car drain while the car off. I had to replace the battery on 5/14/2021.
Forester was parked in under ground parking garage for between one and two weeks. The battery was completely dead, no sound at all when i tried to start it. The only door that was locked was the rear hatch door.neighbor brought a battery charger and got the forester started. Following that, i drove it to the local subaru dealer and ask them to check and see if anything was draining the battery. They check everything and did not find any problem. The fellow at the service desk said that starting a car is the biggest drain on a battery and if the car isn't driven enough between startups, it tends to bring the battery down. He recommended particular battery charger which he said i could purchase at walmart.since i only have a little over eleven thousand miles on my forester, and i have never had this situation occur with any of my other automobiles in the past. I do worry about what would happen should i leave my car parked at the airport for a couple weeks and there is no place to plug in a charger. I still love my forester.
It seems that my car has a poorly designed/not-current-limited usb jack, which fails to prevent a phone charging cable with shorted or shorting-intermittently interval power wires from burning up and possibly causing a fire. The details of my burnt-cable event:on tuesday evening oct. 9, 2018, i got into my car in my garage.i then started the car.the usb part of my iphone cable was already in the car's usb port, i believe. While the car was still idling in place, i then plugged the lightening end of the cable into my iphone's port to charge it.i was still idling in place when i heard a sound similar to a plastic bottle popping inward or outward and started to look around in my car for what's going on.i then, within seconds, i believe, started to smell a burning smell.i opened my center console, since that was the most recent thing i had handled, and had ports in it, and i smelled the burning smell more.i quickly pulled out the cable from the usb port and the iphone itself.i went onward with the night's activities, and then later that night, back at the car, inspected the cable and saw that the lightening end (iphone end) was distorted, with a wire protruding, and a brown burnt spot. I believe this could have turned into a fire if i hadn't quickly removed the cable from the usb port.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. While driving approximately 80 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost engine power. The vehicle was coasted to an exit ramp. The contact stated that the engine was still idling extremely low and the vehicle was turned off and restarted. Rimrock subaru (324 s 24th st w, billings, mt 59102, (406) 651-5200) replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump control module; however, the failure continued. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer and offered a trade-in for a 2018 subaru outback. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 4,200.*
Multiple times, i've had the car parked for several days and when i try to start it, the battery is dead.i've had the dealer check the battery twice, and the entire charging system once. They couldn't find a problem.this doesn't happen every time consistently, but it's happened enough that i wanted to report the issue.
First, driving on the highway the air conditioner stopped working. Second, the very next day, the vehicle began to make noises (squealing) when driving it anywhere. Streets, turns, hills etc. Then it began race and it felt as if the back tires were racing to catch up to the front tires. There was lurching forward. Shuddering. No dashboard warning lights came on. I called the dealership, then took it to the dealership. It was scaryto drive it there. I felt like the transmission was going up. Third, the tailgate,( in or out) release buttons were not working consistently (repeat complaint). I left the vehicle at the dealership and telephoned subaru of america. This 2018; i had owned for exactly two months. I had only driven the car approx 1200 miles total.mileage 47,000. The dealer has repaired the ac and cvt transmission. The ac is a known problem and it was the condenser that was leaking and needed replaced. The cvt is also a known problem. The service tech test drove the vehicle and able to duplicate concern. He found the rpm increased and the squealing could be heard. Vehicle would shudder. When he removed the pan he found metal in the oil. Confirming the cvt (transmission) needed replaced. Repairs were made under the extended warranty.given the information found on the web regarding these problems it was important to report that these problems continue.safety is concern.
There have been several times that the car will not lock due to a type of trip or wiring with the locking system. While the car is turned off and stationary, right before locking the door, there is a clicking sound and the driver's side door light flashes. The driver's side door is closed, even if the electrical system acts like it is trying to close the door. This prevents the car from locking, due to some type of trip in the door sensor. It might be a trip between the karr alarm system and the door sensor installed in the car. I've attempted to repair or resolve this since i bought the car and it is has yet to be repaired.
While getting a 2 hr dental procedure, there was an unexplained battery drain, leaving the car dead. I paid aaato give me a roadside emergency jump. I had had no previous issues.
Windows get locked and i'm not able to use the switch to unlock the windows and either side.issue was reported.subaru corrected the issue but it still happens. Once subaru dealer helped via phone conversation to reset but this is a constant issue.i feel trapped in my car and i have to open my door to reach for a ticket while at a parking lot.can't role down my window at the gas station.this can happen stationary or in motion.this is definitely a safety hazard.also, while driving the music goes to a high to low volume and vise versa either on it's own or when i hit a bump.very disturbing and scary at times especially when i'm on the highway.
The eyesight had been manipulated to a warning even when there's no obstruction while driving forward, while backing up it gives a warning that someone or a vehicle is adjacent to my car.these are just a few of the problems i encounter.i have an idea who's behind this.but i cannot prove it. Someone very knowledgeable in computer security within my vicinity.it compromises the safety feature of the car while driving and even backing up in my garage.
I have had numerous times that my car would not start because the battery was dead. I upgraded my battery at purchase because i had the dealer install a remote start. Withina few months my car was completely dead and had to be towed to the dealer, 2.5 hrs away. Subaru replaced the battery with the biggest battery that would fit.the next winter, the same dead battery issues happened. It was suggested that i get a car starter jump pack, to keep on hand, which i used often. Then the battery stopped holding charge for even four days. So they recommended that i get a trickle charge battery tender, so i did. The dealer thought it might be the remote starter, and replaced that. So far, it has been okay, but it is warmer weather now too. They also recommended that i keep the battery tender plugged in all time, year round, which seems crazy for a new car. I tried several times and ways to download my invoices showing these repairs. All failed.
[xxx]05/19/2019[xxx]- clear day @ 10am est. While in my lane and traveling straight and within the lane lines, two (2) vehicle safety systems activate at the same time: lane keep assist, lane departure warning. The lane keep assist was the strongest "pull" i've ever felt and pulled/steered the vehicle to right causing me nearly cross into the lane on my right. My hands were always on the steering wheel and was able to immediately correct it. The departure warning also activated at the initial 'lane keep assist' feature activation. Attached is a picture of the road from the inside of the vehicle. The windshield has dried insect residue but nothing i considered visually impairing. If my hands were not on the steering wheel or otherwise was distracted, i have no doubt i would have steered completely into the lane next to me.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Windshield cracked and is now half across from passenger side. No known rock hit same. Googled and noticed dozens of windshields cracked from structural defects. Subaru claims this is why eyesight cuts off " eyesight cannot see it don't work." so i guess it doesn't work at night?
Brand new vehicle.driving on an interstate at 55mph and made a slight left turn at a bend in the road, well within the clearly painted lane markers. Clear weather, temp about 50 degrees f. Heard one beep and lost control of the steering for a second while the car steered itself slightly left.my hands were on the steering wheel and i was active operating the vehicle.startling!happened two more times. Took it to a dealer and he explained that i might not be used to electronic steering.the same day, on a two lane road at 35 mph, at a slight left bend in the road, one beep and lost steering for about a second but enough to take the vehicle to the edge of the shoulder.i was startled again and turned sharp left, crossing the double yellow line into the oncoming lane. Fortunately, there were no vehicles in the lane.the culprit seems to be the "lane keep assist" feature of the eyesight system where the vehicle's computer takes over control if it detects a lane departure under certain conditions. Obviously, it is not functioning correctly and could have caused an accident or worse.turned lka off.
Eyesight shuts off , in rain when most needed. Dealer states it is ok.
The speedometer information is very difficult to see in sunny daylight. Numbers are "red". If "polarized" or regular sun lenses are used, (info. (numbers) can not be read. 2019 models, the speedometer is changed, with "white" characters. Finally subaru got the message. It is critical to be driving and you can not see the speed that you are driving !
While driving at 60 miles an hour on a 4 lane highway, i was going around a slight curve when the lane assist came on.i was in the left lane and not near the left line in road, but centered in the middle of lane.i heard one beep and then the steering wheel became very loose in my hand and it took me a few seconds to gain control of the steering wheel.this also happened while going on a slightly curved city street going about 40 miles an hour. It scared the dickens out of me as it was not what i expected the lane assist to do. I went back to dealership and told them about the steering and they said i just needed to get used to how the electric steering worked.after it happened a couple more time i made appointment for someone to take a test drive.the technician felt a slight swaying but said it was the type of steering of the lane assist.he suggested i turn it off and not use it for a while and see how car then handled.the technician filed case # 26296330423, no problem found with vehicle, system is operating as designed, no repair attempt performed.(eqmr was also filled out and submitted.)i have not driven my forester with the assist on since this happened.i have not had this loose wheel steering happen again.i am convinced it is the lane assist and feel it is not working properly in my vehicle.i will probably never use it again.lane departure is fine, does what it's supposed to do.i have no complaints with the dealership or their technician, they were very thorough and kind.this lane assist is just an aspect of this safety technology that i don not like how it works.or is there something wrong with it in my car that this has not happened to others yet?i do understand how lane assist works, i did test drives having it on and it would bring me back to my lane if i went over the line without a blinker on.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. While changing the oil in the vehicle, the contact noticed fuel inside the engine oil. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Upon entering a parking space, with break peddle engaged, the vehicle lunged forward at extreme speed hitting a protective barrier. After a rest period, the vehicle was put in reverse and with break peddle engaged lurched backward at the same excessive speed hitting another object. After a long period with engine turned off, the operator was able to drive the car slowly. The vehicle is to be examined to determinethe problem.
Cam shaft seal leak. Under warranty but the vehicle has only 37,000 miles. Was told that they replaced felt sesls with a silicone seal therefore there are more problems. My friend brought his 2019 forester in that same week. Same problem
Exhaust gasket leak. Only notable when cold as it makes a whistling sound. Issue has happened 2 times
I turned into a parking space covering the brake and came to a stop. I went to shift into park and when the gearshift lever started to move the car accelerated uncommanded and ran into the building.
Had subra 2018for 2 weeksoil lights come on all lights been having this oil burning for a year. Now the steering freeze up while drivingit last week couldn't move carat all on the highwayturning. It wouldn't move good thing we weren'tgoing fast on a interstate. Sat on side of road with it. Read book trying to see what was going on no steering that car at all. I didn't buy a brand new car with problems like that. The oil issue been going on since i got car in 2017.been back a forth to deal shipnothing done what so ever
When driving, sometimes my car loses power temporarily. It happens at times when i am going up an incline, but it has also happened on flat surfaces.
Exhaust manifold gasket leaks at both 30,0000 and 65,000 miles. Car was making whistling sounds when starting that are exceptionally notably only in cold weather. Unknown how long leaks were there as they only loud during the cold months. Noise would go away once engine was warmed up.
2018 subaru forester 2.5i automatic cvt: defective low gear - safety issue. 21 days after purchase took it to durango colorado mountains, put it in low gear before descending and the low gear never kicked in to slow the vehicle down. Stopped multiple times to re-attempt and low gear failed each time. I dared only 40mph on the gravelly switchbacks. Manufacturer & dealer refused to acknowledge defect even though i recorded another instance on texas hills. Mechanic shop in the area said that the car has no low gear failure light so diagnostic machines will never be able to pick up a code that does not exist. The manufacturer refused to fix issue and dealer said diagnostic machine did not find anything. I gave both the video of low gear failure and a japanese & usa article on how low gear works. I offered even exchange for a manual premium. No resolution.
When applying gentle gas pressure at low speed car does not respond for 2-4 seconds, then lurches strongly forward as tho full throttle has been applied.happens at random times. Dealer said nothing wrong when first happened 2 years ago.was rare until today when it happened 6 times within 50 miles of city driving.will see dealer tomorrow.no warnings of any kind.grave safety hazard as could be hit by traffic when tryingto enter street or get out of somebodies way when car does't respond.
Vehicles driver seatrail has become loose causing seat to slightly move when laying back.. Could be hazardous while driving.. At initial take off, acceleration jerks, acceleration is not smooth, after slightly pressing on the acceleration pedal, i have to sometimes brake because acceleration is jerky and rough. I just purchased this pre-owned 2018 subaru forester with 14k miles and it is already blowing smoke at start up.
During the winter of 2019 i was driving during a heavy wet snow storm. I had to stop every 5 -10 minutes to wipe off my headlights as they were covered in heavy wet snow.this was a safety issue as i needed to get out of my car on the side of the interstate near hardin mt, where often many vehicles would pass near the car. For an all weather suv, this is a safety issue. The lights did not produce any heat to melt the snow so that i could continue to drive in a safe manner. Have never run into this issue before with any vehicle.i have written subaru about this issue after this occurred, but have never received any response.
Cracking windshield once a year since last year.
Sunday april8 2018, the 'eyesight' which is a safety device was possibly turned off remotely, thus rendering this safety device inoperable and could cause the vehicle to get into an accident without any warning, the safety device warns you if you cross over the center or shoulder traffic line. This is the second time it happened and was reported to fcc, subaru and their dealership.i have an idea who's behind this dangerous manipulation but i don't have the talent or resource to prove it.
The 2018 forrester xt was taken to subaru dealer (gwinnett) for a routine 42,000-mile service.there were no issues with the car.shortly after picking up and driving approximately 30 miles the car stalled twice at traffic lights. The engine was restarted but started to exhibit sluggish and erratic acceleration, especially from 0-45 mph.the car was taken back to gwinnett subaru the next day. They did some data retrieval and found a mass airflow event, cleaned the air filter, test drove the car, and released it to us. The next few days, the same problems were experienced but the car did not stall. At one point, at a traffic light, the car would simply not accelerate even with full pedal pressure which was gradually increased. When it finally did, it was uncontrolled and erratic. Highway driving once speed was reached seemed normal, but any acceleration from a slower speed was problematic. On monday 6-14-2021 the car was taken back to the dealer due to serious concerns about safety and the possibility of the loss of power when critically needed or when on the highway. The dealer promised to investigate the problem further. That evening, we were informed that it was their assessment that the car would need a brand new cvt transmission. The car has approximately 41,100 miles and we were told that it would be covered by the 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain warranty. Expected to take 7-10 days for repair.
As it stands in p (park) it has a really high idle even in neutral as if it wants to go. Then in drive it will lurch really fast. Or i have my foot on the break and it starts to rev high then after 3-5sec of seeing rev cycle in the 2000-3000s it calms down. I almost rear-ended a car yesterday. If you slightly pull off the brake the car will want to jolt forward. When it revs high and i take my foot off the brake it jolts forward then slows as if it recognizes i never had my foot on the accelerator. In all of these times i never had my foot on the gas pedal. I don't have pictures because obviously it's scary and i'd rather focus on the driving then my car acting strange. But i realised that when this was happening more and more frequently my brakes completely wore out. I went from a 7/10 to a 1/10 in between a 3000 mile service! it all became more apparent after the 30,000 mile mark
Strong fuel odor is detected in garage after parking as well as within the cabin while driving.believe fuel is entering oil from undetermined location as odor is especially pronounced around dip stick. If oil is changed the issue dissipates but returns within 1000 miles.there are plenty of online reports from other 2015 - 2018 forrester xt (turbo) owners reporting the same issue and in most cases their dealer is unable to determine an issue or provide a solution.in one report, however, the owner indicated their dealer finally resolved their issue by replacing a faulty injector seal.

When attempting to accelerate to make a left-hand turn the car stopped - the engine would not get above idle, even when the accelerator was pressed to the floor.the car stopped in oncoming traffic.it did accelerate after completely removing pressure from the pedal and pushing it partially down again it began to pick up speed.

I have trouble making turns for it hesitates before it will kick in,yesterday i was almost hit by a police car going on a call, lights/siren on .i just made a turn and it hesitatedicouldn't get out of his way. This is an ongoing problem with this car.
Occasionally when i slowly accelerate from a stop, as when i pull into a driving lane from a parking lot a stop sign, the car will move a few feet and then stop. The engine will still be turning approx. 2000 rpm but the car will not move . When i apply the accelerator the rpm does not change and the car still will not move. After anywhere from 3-5 seconds the car will accelerate normally. Otherwise the car performs normally and there is no hesitation at higher speeds. As a result, i am sitting helpless in a traffic land with cars bearing down on me. S far we have not been hit. I have been unable to replicate this problem and it may occur a few times in one day or nit for several days. I took it to my local subaru dealer and they were unable to duplicate the problem on a test drive. However, a service writer with the same model did describe a similar experience. The service dept. Ran diagnostic tests and said that everything is normal. Subaru customer service said that unless they can duplicate the problem there is nothing they can do. When i googled this problem i found several similar complaints involving several subaru models and also that subaru is aware of the problem but apparently has not found a solution.
The car will periodically stall for a second or two on occassions when starting out and then accelerate with a jolt. When in traffic this is unacceptable.i understand this may be common with cvt transmissions. If that is the case i question why they are allowed on the road.i wll not purchase another subaru or any other car with a cvt.
Follow up-to complaint #11420905 submitted 6/14/2021. The car was taken back to the dealership due to stall, hesitation, slowness, and erratic uncontrolled acceleration. Safety was the main issue. The dealer confirmed the concern and replaced the transmission with a remanufactured one. The problems still remain with the exception of the stalling. We believe this situation requires further thorough investigation and possible recall or new transmission installation.
When on an incline, and orentering a highway while accelerating the car will go into the hill decent mode. Every light on the dash will light up! i am forced to pull over because the engine is now screaming!!! i then need to turn the car off and on two times in order to be able to drive it. Now half the lights are still on. But the car is running normally. It will take to more times turning off the engine before all the lights go off. The dealer claimed i was driving two footed. Left foot on brake and right on gas. Not true i do not drive like that. You can verify this behavior with starlink which i had the first year. Stamford subaru has had the car a week now and i have heard nothing! the second issue is the front end. When going over a bump or turning into a driveway there is a loud clunk. To me it sounds like ball joints. Stamford subaru has told me it is the all wheel drive system lifting one wheel off the ground, that's bull. I'm doing five miles an hour. Both issues have been going on for over a year. I do not feel safe in my subaru. Stamford subaru has given me an impresa as a loner and i am loving it. I have put six hundred miles on it and no problems. Please get in their butts to fix or replace my forester!!!thank you in advance...ps, the computer code said incorrect gear ratio for the transmission problem. In addition this has happened five times in a year and four months. Very scary!!!
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. While driving over 40 mph, the vehicle shook violently and vibrated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (suburban subaru, 1821 maplelawn dr, troy, mi) where it was diagnosed that the failure was caused by a build up of dirt and debris in the wheels and wheel wells. The contact was advised to power wash the wheels and wheel wells to prevent the failure from recurring. In addition, the engine idled while the vehicle was on a slight incline. Suddenly, the engine began to rev high and the vehicle erroneously drove forward. The failure occurred as the driver was getting back into the vehicle and the accelerator pedal had not been depressed. On several occasions, while on a slight incline with the engine idling, the vehicle would suddenly roll backwards once the brake pedal was released. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who found no failures with the vehicle. The manufacturer was informed of the failures and did not assist. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 2,500. Consumer stated violent vibration and shaking at 45mph or greater especially in winter months with snow and mud build up. Automatic brakes slamfrequently when in reverse. While at a stop sign, when car is in drive on an incline engine starts revving. Vehicle went backwards while foot was on the brake.updated 11/19/18
The cvt transmission is begining to fail, the car has come near stalling several times and has a very rough/lurching shift while accelerating onto highways and merging. Subaru dealership says it does not qualify for a warranty replacement even though subaru extended the warranty specifically for this problem.

The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and sometimes lost power. The vehicle restarted after it was shut off. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to subaru sherman oaks (888-690-1521, located at 5747 van nuys blvd, van nuys, ca 91401) where the technician test drove the vehicle, but was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that someone would follow up with the dealer. The contact was not called back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not provided.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. While driving 20 mph in stop and go traffic, the vehicle jerked and decelerated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to johnson subaru of cary (5010 old raleigh rd, cary, nc 27511, (833) 287-8912) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.
On august 23, 2018, i purchased a brand new subaru forester (vin # (xx)) from southern states automotive in raleigh, nc. On october 30, 2018, i received a notice from subaru of america stating that subaru of america is implementing a warranty extension of 10 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first) for my vehicle's continuously variable transmission (cvt). On october 31, 2018, at 5:13 pm, i spoke to eric in subaru's customer service division. I asked eric how long subaru had known about problems with their cvts. He stated "two weeks." i stated to eric that i bought a subaru because of its reliability. I asked eric to offer me a lifetime warranty on my cvt. Eric stated there was no way he or anyone in his department could do that. At 7:09 pm on october 31, 2018, i spoke to virgil - a subaru customer service supervisor. I asked virgil to provide me with a lifetime warranty on my cvt. Virgil offered me a $500 service voucher with an expiration date of november 2019. I asked virgil how much it would cost to replace my cvt. He stated "six or seven thousand dollars." he stated there was no one else capable of reviewing my concerns. On november 13, 2018, i spoke to donnie (x) and derrick (x) in the sales department at southern states subaru. Both informed me that they were unable to provide me a lifetime warranty for my cvt. I have paid subaru $11,200 toward the cost of my brand new 2018 forester. I specifically purchased it because of subaru's reputation for reliability.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I have ac problems, refrigerant leak, actuator problems, bad compressor.i have serious cvt surging and suspension problems that make vehicle unsafe to drive.the car literally begins to hop like you are stomping the gas and breaks back and forth and can easily make you lose control. It sometimes does nothing when pressing accelerator for way too long making it dangerous pulling into traffic.windows roll down without pressing button and won't roll back up unless you roll them all the way down first and usually it just rolls right back down again. Aweful trying to drive while fighting with windows that won't stay up.suspension is so destroyed from the surging and hopping that it cannot be aligned.the vehicle destroys tires rapidly and unevenly. Gas mpg is terrible, especially if you run ac.steering assist is dangerous and will sometimes jerk wheel away for no reason causing you to scrape curbs and nearly hit a pole once..breaking assist is also dangerous as it will slam breaks for no reason.lane departure beeps a lot for no reason.wipers are garbage. Windshield glass is too soft and all dust scratches it making visibility poorthe trunk often will not open no matter if you push button on key, inside car or on trunk. The door seals fell off, cheap clips fall off that are supposed to hold important things in place, glove box shock broke. I'm sure there are other issues too. Suspension is a big issue however, completely shot from surging. Far too expensive to get whole new suspension. Dealership ignored all complaints and purged all records of visits so i couldn't file lemon law. Subaru is very dishonest. So many things need recall that it is a lemon pure and simple.
Seat warning buzzewhen the driver or the passenger seat belt is not fastened the buzzer sounds for approximately 8 seconds. However, after this interval, if either belt is still unfastened buzzer continues to chime in ever increasing volume. The manual states that this disturbing second chime can be disabled by a subaru dealer. I went to two dealers on four different occasions and they refused to comply. I called subaru and i was advised that the company has no control over the actions of their dealers who are independent entities. Refer to page 3-14 of the owner's manual. I want to disconnect this feature as it is a hazard to safe driving.
Oct.
Windshield cracked with no causing damage. Short crack in motion that grew over several nights while parked. The brake pedal went to the floor while stopped at a light. Had towed to the dealer
I was in stop and go traffic. I don't remember if i was taking foot off brake, or gas pedal. This happen within seconds. Car started to accelerate, i slammed on brakes still moving, i pulled emergency brake, still moving, i hit back end of pick-up truck. By then i had put car in park and turned off ignition.
The contact leased a 2018 a subaru forester. The contact stated while driving at 25 mph up a hill, the brake pedal was applied but failed to respond and vehicle rolled backwards and crashed into a tree. The door failed to open. There were no reported injuries. A police report was filed. No air bags deployed. The vehicle was taken to subaru sherman oaks (5747 van nuys blvd, van nuys, ca 91401 (818) 670-7450) where the vehicle was working as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 35,000.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated that while attempting to switch from drive to reverse, when they pressed the brakes the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward. The vehicle crashed into the contact's garage door through the garage door and partially through the cement wall inside the garage. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed however it was still being determined whether the vehicle would be deemed totaled. The contact's wife received injuries the hip and leg area. Medical attention was needed. The contact had spoken to the dealer (castle subaru burnsharbor mi) who referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who requested the black box and opened a case regarding the matter. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
Vehicle unexpectedly accelerated upon stepping on the brake, while stopping at a stop sigh.
2018 subaru forester. Consumer writes in regards to braking issue. *ldthe consumer stated the brake pedal became spongy/mushy after driving several miles. The pedal would continue to travel to the floor after being depressed. The consumer stated the manufacturer and dealer were notified. The dealer stated the vehicle was operating as designed. The consumer was unsatisfied with this response.
On several occasions while driving on the highway, my eyesight feature suddenly disengages and my cruise control ceases to work and no lane assist or other safety features contained with the "eyesight package" work for extended periods of time.this has occurred when it is raining or snowing.
While parking in a lot: when pulling into a space, hit brake pedal and car accelerated resulting in minor damage to my car and others cars. I believe the car malfunctioned resulting in this accident.
Vehicle has 50k miles. Window motor on driver window replaced twice. Keeps failing. Also uneven tread wear on brand new tires indicating something wrong with vehicle.
Since i purchased my vehicle in 2018, when i'm driving on the freeway at a speed between 65 to 70 my tires feel unbalanced. Sometimes it feels like my car is swerving and it feels like it's hard to control the car .
I came to a complete stop to wait for oncoming traffic before making a left turn.i only had about twenty feet to go to access the angled parking space for the business on the corner.as i turned into the space, my forester suddenly jumped the curb, mowed down a sign pole, and crashed into the building window.after replaying this incident over in my mind, i truly believe this was a case of unintended acceleration.fortunately, no one was injured.i was on a city street and was totally shocked that the vehicle accelerated like it did.
The steering locks up on this vehicle and will not allow me to turn it but give me a steering wheel emblem with the! and it doesn't weather is hot or cold sometimes i have to turn it on and off six or seven times before it will unfreeze
Eyesight shuts off , in rain when most needed. Dealer states it is ok.
On straight highway sometimes will give a jerk to the right.had vehicle in for issue they found steering shaft bolt loose. They retorqued to spec. Drove to florida still has same issues.when in a banked turn does not hold turn properly.when on absolutely straight highway steering wheel appears to be slightly to the left of 6:00. Making appt with dealership again. Don't know when it started, wife had been driving due to my medical issue. 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
When driving forward on level road, the vehicle drifts or goes to the right. I must keepturning the steering wheel to the left to correct this problem. I notice when the vehicle drifts to the right side, steering wheel maintains a centered position.
This car has a manual transmission and only has been driven 3,370 miles. Every so often after startup, while beginning to move forward, the steering becomes extremely difficult. This effect lasts, perhaps, for up to 5 seconds or so.
Cracking windshield once a year since last year.
Windshield cracked unexpectedly while going 35 mph on a surface road.
Spontaneous crack in windshield
I was in stop and go traffic. I don't remember if i was taking foot off brake, or gas pedal. This happen within seconds. Car started to accelerate, i slammed on brakes still moving, i pulled emergency brake, still moving, i hit back end of pick-up truck. By then i had put car in park and turned off ignition.
Vehicle was being backed out of the garage to replace the trash can. After backing part way out of the garage when i put the car in gear it shot forward and i was unable to stop the vehicle until it hit the back garage wall.when the vehicle was then put into reverse it shot backwards, also.i was unable to stop the vehicle until it was totally out of the garage.the vehicle seemed to accelerate on its own. Damage was done to the front end of the vehicle, the garage wall and the inside utility room and hallway.
I turned into a parking space covering the brake and came to a stop. I went to shift into park and when the gearshift lever started to move the car accelerated uncommanded and ran into the building.
Parked the car in a protected lot.when i returned there was a 2-foot long crack down the middle of the top of the windshield.it required replacement with no help or coverage from subaru.this was with 12000 miles on the car.

Front wheel drive barring's lt side, worn out under 19,000 miles, rear gate lift motor replaced twice-in motion! lt backinterior framepopping out!
I was driving down i-40 east between morrisonville and cary in north carolina where the speed limit is 65 mph and had a plow out. There were only 20,000 miles on the tires, i just had the vehicle serviced in may of this year. The yokohama tire shredded just leaving the tread and the rim.fortunately, there were no injuries except for the fear of my seven-year-old grandson, on an interstate with vehicles speeding down the highway on a friday afternoon, for the weekend. I had to purchase a new tire and now i am told i will have to buy 3 more because the truck is a 4 wheel drive.there was more than a half a penny of tread left on this tire and now i have to delay a trip because of the problems with my tires. I did not run over a nail nor did i rub against any that would cause a tear in the tire.these tires are defective and as a subaru owner am disappointed with the product i purchased.i have enjoyed my subaru and have a long admirer of the vehicle for years.i plan to trade this vehicle in the next 2 years for another vehicle and was planning to retire with this one.
I heard a loud pop when driving on a major road. Just driving. I looked up at the rear view and saw the windshield had a very large / long crack in it. I called subaru dealership they told me to call my insurance company.no mention of problems with windshields.
Windshield cracked about 1130 pm on 29 march 2020 when it was sitting in the driveway.nothing was around, nothing hit it. No one or animal was in the vehicle nor anywhere near the vehicle.
The windshield cracked as i was driving down a street. Nothing hit it. There were no other cars near me. The crack started at the outer edge of the windshield.
Windshield cracked and is now half across from passenger side. No known rock hit same. Googled and noticed dozens of windshields cracked from structural defects. Subaru claims this is why eyesight cuts off " eyesight cannot see it don't work." so i guess it doesn't work at night?
Windshield breakage 2018subaru forester. Our windshield was hit twice by small rocks in exactly the same place twice within 30 days. One break on the original windshield and again on the replacement windshield. It appears the design of the hood facilities the damage or the design of the glass is fragile. These breaks occurred while driving on the interstate with speeds of around 70 mph. When speaking to the subaru dealership of our concern they informed us that subaru windshields had a tendency to crack easily and needed to be replaced often. When we asked them if this seemed like a safety concern they did not some to think it was.
When putting the car in park and attempting to turn the car off and take the key out of the ignition, the key is stuck. I typically have to shift back into r or n and then back in park a few times before the key is able to be released. This has been happening off and on for about 6 months and seems to get worse in the heat.
On random and unpredictable occasions the key will not turn in the ignition to start the vehicle apparently as an issue with the anti-theft mechanism. When this occurs, nothing works to try to resolve except to exit the vehicle and wait for 10-15 minutes and the mechanism will reset itself and then work normally. This has occurred several times and the dealer has been unable to resolve the issue.
Subaru forester battery dies repeatedly after sitting for very short periods of time. Three times within the first year of owning the vehicle (bought it new). First time, dealer told me it must be my fault because it tested fine, 2nd time they said it was an issue with a start stop fuse (car doesn't have that feature) draining the battery, 3rd time they said it was starlink electrical issue draining the battery. I cannot recall if they replaced the battery each time, but i know i was told that it was replaced at least twice. Worked fine for another year after the starlink solution and has again been acting up. Car doesn't want to start and left me stranded in a remote mountain location in the dead of winter.
Vehicle has 50k miles. Window motor on driver window replaced twice. Keeps failing. Also uneven tread wear on brand new tires indicating something wrong with vehicle.
The windshield has several small cracks in it and it was not hit by rocks or any other debris.
The windshield cracked with no reason, drove to work windshield fine. Found broke after leaving work while parked. Since then it has been replaced. Date of the break was approx. 6/2019
Exhaust getting into the car coming from the outside while car is stationary or around other cars. Only stops sucking exhaust in if we change the air ventilation mode to inside the car only. It makes it very hard to drive around because the car gets humid fast and the windows fog up and it is dangerous to drive with decreased visibility because we cannot change the ventilation system to the button that takes air from outside.
I'm currently on my second windshield on my 2018 subaru forester.the first windshield cracked for no good reason and the second cracked with a minor rock hit the windshield.
I woke up one morning to find a crack in my windshield in the bottom right (passenger side). I park my car in our driveway, not in the street. I rarely even drive on the highway as i work a half mile from my house.
While in motion on a highway, our windshield has cracked twice in under 24,000 miles. These were two separate windshields - the original and the replacement from a subaru dealership. We can assume a tiny rock hit the windshield since we were on a highway - however, it appears that it does not take much for the windshield to crack. This same scenario has happened to our windshield twice. Our car was not following closely behind another car or large vehicle that could have been kicking up debris.
Ignition steering lock is difficult to clear.we have had 5 instances where it is very difficult to start the car because the steering is locked and the key will not turn.it takes a large amount of force on the steering wheel while turning the key to the extent that it takes two people.one twisting the steering wheel and the other the key.the subaru dealer says the car is working as designed.
I owned this new car only 2 weeks and it developed a crack in the windshield.i had the crack repaired at a private shop.i was driving the car on a residential street when this happened.
The ac system has failed, most likely the compressor at 76,000 miles. This problem is widespread across subaru models 2017 & 2018 and repairs cost at around $1,500.00. For a less than 3 year old, very maintained car components should not be failing this soon. Having no working ac is a safety hazard to be in while driving in 100+ degree weather and also the windshield will fog over because moisture is not being taken out of the air now.
The key would not pull from the ignition.we took the car to a subaru dealership and they had to replace the shifter assembly.this would have cost $650 had it not been covered by our 30 day limited warantee.we had just bought the car a week prior.there was no recall on the required notice we got when we bought the car because subaru had not issued at that time.i discovered this when visiting forums of others with a similar experience.the owners know their experience, but that knowledge has not risen to the level of public acknowledgement by subaru.the windshield cracked in 3 places for no discernable reason.we had it looked at, and they are not deep enough for service, at this time.however, we anticipate having to get a replacement windshield with estimated costs of $1000 or more.another discovery found in the forums, but not from subaru directly.the general public relies on the credibility of manufacturers and dealerships when making this long term investments.subaru concealing information this information is quite concerning.if they do not disclose then neither do the dealerships selling them.in the end, the consumer ends up with the expense.
The windshield was so pitted when i bought it that i had it replaced within a few months of purchasing the vehicle.visibility was limited especially when the sun hit it.
All my cars from 2001 thru 20176fords toyotas mazdas etc. All had automatic door locking weather when put in gear or when the car proceded to 10 mph i just leased a 2018 subaru forester it does not do it! went to the dealer they stated the car does not do that only the legacy and the outback . This is a majorsafety issue and i will take legal motion against subaru my cell number is [xxx]please call me there is a module box that can be installed at my own expence and im ok with that for 125$ i am in law enforcement and safety is a big issue with me please all mefor direction me personally they should recall and have that safety issue installed the salesperson did not mention that the car didnt come with out that option gee whiz its like not having an air bag in your car.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Bought the car new in 2018, in 2019 a small piece of gravel hit the windshield and a huge crack appeared a few weeks later. Had it replaced. Now 10//27/2020 there is a crack that just appeared in the windshield again. No rocks have hit the windshield. .i drove the car and did not see a crack. Parked in my driveway for an hour and went outside to clean the inside of the windshield and there was a crack. They appear when the car is just sitting in the driveway..the first cracked windshield and claim were from 9/19 claim 06-b531-7m4 with state farm.
Windshield------ 2018 subaru forester. On 2/29/2018 when entering the car in the morning which was parked in my driveway i noticed a cracked windshield on the drivers side. Crack ran from the bottom of the windshield up about 10 inches. When leaving the car on the night on 9/28/2018 the windshield was not cracked. Inspection showed no signs of a chip in the glass.when driving the car on that morning the crack extended toward the passenger about 8 inches.my insurance company sent me to safelite auto glass to have the windshield replaced. An aftermarket windshield replaced the cracked windshield. Safelite was unable to align the cameras for the starlight system. The windshield was then replaced with a subaru windshield. Safelite again was unable to align / calibrate the cameras. Was sent to the subaru dealer for the calibration.. They were able to calibrate the cameras after 4.5 hours. I have read that other subaru foresters have had the same problem with the windshield cracking for no reason at all. I believe they wind shields are defective. I do not have a photo
Directional lights only turn off when mating 90 turn. Taking exits or crossing lanes light won't turn off automatically elderly people cannot hear the blinkin. Never had this problem with other cars i have owned
A number of tiny chips developed on the front windshield. Counted at least 6 spots. The car was mostly parked on a city street when the chips seem to have occurred. Have driven less than 100 miles on highways and less than 20 miles in the city.
While leaving for work this morning, i noticed a crack on my windshield on the lower passenger side, right above the front speaker. It appears the crack is only on the inside and is not caused by any outside damage or force.
Cracked/dents in windshield
The windshield is pitted and crackedi first noticed the pitting in 03/2018and it is continually getting worse. The windshield now needs to be replaced as it has a huge crack in it!
2018 subaru forester has a crack in the windshield, passenger side for no apparent reason. First noticed in august 2018.
The subaru (nav) navigation system is dangerous and should not be used. It gives you no advance warning of upcoming highway exits or upcoming turns. The nav system will easily be the cause of sever life threatening accidentsdue to its poor operationalability to safely give clear instructions in advance of the actual direction. I am an experienced user of other nav systems andcan honestly tell you that the one in the subaru is worthless.i love the car but hate the nav system!
My 2018 subaru forester xt shut off while driving 2 times on 7/26/18. Nothing happened, no warning lights,it just shut off while driving. And came to a sudden stop in a matter of seconds -i was going 40 mph. After it shut off the battery light came one, the check engine, and the esp electronic stability light came on. Extreamly heart stopping to have your vehicle shut off/stall, whatever, while on a road, especially a highway. Luckily i was on a street where i could get to the side before it completely stopped. But i had just gotten off the freeway however i commute to work one a freeway. If this happens again today, i pray i'm not on the freeway or anywhere where i can't safely get over on time before i'm hit. It started again no problem, then stalled again in my driveway 10 minutes later. My vehicle is an automatic cvt transmission and shouldn't stall while driving.
Page 9-6 figure 8 of the owners manual shows how to place the jack on the frame to raise the car to change a tire.the problem is that when you reef down on either loosening or tightening the tire, the car will rock either forward of backwards and slide off of the jack.the car will then fall forwards or backwards dropping the car to the ground, potentially injuring the person changing the tire.the car fell twice when i was trying to change the tire.this can be easily resolved by having a jack that fits snugly with the mount points on the car so that there is no possibility of the car moving as the person is tightening or loosing the lire lug bolts.the car was in park with the hand brake set, yet will still move slightly as the person presses hard on the lug wrench.the car could fall onto the person either injuring them or trapping them under the car.the car needs to come with the correct jack, which would solve this problem.photo 109 shows how the jack is too narrow for the slots on the frame, the jack head should be about a half inch wider to fit snugly with the car frame.file 105 shows how close the jack head when centered is next to the frame slots.
Went into the doctors office yesterday and when i came out the rear hach was open.the car was locked and secure when we went in.
I purchase a 2018 subaru forester and 5 month later the side/back radar warning systems went dead.i returned it to the dealer and was told because of a scratch on the bumper the car was in an accident and the part was not warranted and would cost over $2k to repair. This part warns me from going back or changing lanes because of blind spots or excessive speed of others drivers and prevents accidents.i brought it to several repair shops and had the part replaced and paid out of pocket.recently i found in my papers that the dealer had included in my price an extended warranty for the same period as the manufacturers warranty and charged me over $300 for it.i re-applied to have the repair covered by the new warranty and again denied.i reported this to consumer reports if they would be willing to test the original defective part to show it was not made defective by a scratch/bump to the bumper. Because this piece is such an integral safely piece of the car, like a computer or tv electronic parts don;t go defective in such short periods and with no real physical damage. I noticed the defective device when backing out of my driveway and when on the streets and vehicles were passing and device not warning me.
While parking in a lot: when pulling into a space, hit brake pedal and car accelerated resulting in minor damage to my car and others cars. I believe the car malfunctioned resulting in this accident.
Vehicle was stationary when "srs airbag system needs to be checked" warning appeared on console. Passenger was present in passenger seat. Vehicle was driven and turned off. After restarting vehicle, error message appeared again when car was stationary and in motion. Message was present both when passenger was present and no passenger.symptom matches existing nhtsa campaign 19v701000. Performed inspection per https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2019/rcrit-19v701-0743.pdf, found passenger-side front airbag occupant detection system (ods) harness that matches defective part description provided by subaru (date code is before 18074, supplier code is 6578).owner concern is that the vehicle vin does not appear listed under recall provided on nhtsa or subaru website, even though the defective, recalled part is present in this vehicle. Owner believes that scope of recall is incorrect and did not include all affected vehicles.
The windshield, after being in a garage for a whole weekend cracked. There was no impact, it just split up the middle. This issue has had a class action lawsuit brought up against subaru, and is something that sadly happened to me to. I am now stuck with an almost 1000 bill. There were no warnings or causes. It happened with no indication this would occur.
Front wheel drive barring's lt side, worn out under 19,000 miles, rear gate lift motor replaced twice-in motion! lt backinterior framepopping out!
There is a crack in the glass of my moon roof and the moon roof is not properly sealed so water leaks in to the car. I purchased the vehicle on 6/18/21 and noticed the crack today (6/25/21) as i was examining the car when i was showing it to a friend of mine. I noticed the water leaking in to the car on 6/19/21 and 6/24/21 when i took the vehicle to get washed.
Sun glare that blinds the driver when sun reflects off the sound system screen while driving.
Windshield has easily cracked multiple times and is very expensive to fix.

The vin was not available.
I turned into a parking space covering the brake and came to a stop. I went to shift into park and when the gearshift lever started to move the car accelerated uncommanded and ran into the building.
While parking in a lot: when pulling into a space, hit brake pedal and car accelerated resulting in minor damage to my car and others cars. I believe the car malfunctioned resulting in this accident.
I had my foot on the break (riding the break and was slowing down to take a left turn onto a residential road, and as i left off the break to start turning because i was now going slow enough, the car accelerated for a second. Rpm randomly shot up and the car jumped forward. It happened quickly and subsided just as quickly.
As i was easing into a parking space in my townhome community in front of my neighbor's house, the car suddenly accelerated on its own and jumped the curb, landing on the sidewalk and pushing in the wall of the house. Airbags did not go off and luckily nobody was home or standing on the sidewalk. I was not injured. The car sustained minimal damage (bumper was askew) but the house wall needed to be replaced and the tenants were unable to live there for two weeks.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle independently accelerated. The vehicle was taken to mark miller subaru south towne service located at 10920 state st, sandy, ut 84070, (888) 791-4530, to be diagnosed which was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted nor informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 26,457.

On several occasions while driving on the highway, my eyesight feature suddenly disengages and my cruise control ceases to work and no lane assist or other safety features contained with the "eyesight package" work for extended periods of time.this has occurred when it is raining or snowing.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, with the cruise control activated, the vehicle would accelerated independently without warning. The contact stated that the failure occurred for approximately 3 seconds before resuming normal operation. The vehicle was taken to mark miller subaru (3535 state st, south salt lake, ut 84115) and an unknown dealer in austin, texas, however, neither dealer were able to provide a conclusive diagnosis of the vehicle. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
Vehicle was turning right into residential garage. Driver experienced sudden unintended acceleration and struck the wall of the garage, causing extensive damage to the structure and the vehicle.the airbags did not deploy, despite the fact that the vehicle struck the residence with sufficient force to shear several 2x6 studs and 1/2" osb siding. The front end of the vehicle sustained approximately $15k in damagethe driver was well-rested and had 20+ years experience driving a similar size japanese suv with no accidents.
I was driving on i-95 in fairfield ct and started to accelerate to merge with traffic when my car started to race. I immediately tried to brake, i needed to press very hard on the brake peddle for the car to stop accelerating. As soon as i took my foot off the brake, the car accelerated again at a very high speed. When i was braking, i could not control the brake speed, it seemed like the car was shutting off so i removed my foot from the brake.this happened four more times until i was able to get over to an off ramp and shut the car down. The car smelled like something burning. I had the car towed to subaru dealer.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the passenger's side window shattered without warning or impact. There were no injuries reported. An independent mechanic replaced the window provided through the insurance company. The dealer was not informed of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
My car was sitting in the driveway and overnight a windshield crack of 8-12 inches appeared out of nowhere.
Windshield cracked while parked
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. When the contact pressed the defrost button, a small crack was noticed on the windshield. The crack progressively grew larger and developed into a crack from the center of the windshield all the way to the roof. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. The vin was unavailable.
Cracked windshield for no reason. Vehicle was parked.
Encountering 2 issues: windshield was cracked and front wheel alignment caused uneven wear and tear on front tires
Second crack in windshield in 5 months. I been driving for 20 years, and never had any issues. Now with the 2018 forester i have second crack in windshield from a tiny rock in 5 months. First occurance happened in il on normal road, second happened 2 days ago in wi, on normal paved road.
A crack started in the lower passenger's side of the front windshield and has continued to move across to the driver's side in the middle of the windshield obstructing view.i noticed it while driving back from vicksburg, ms. It was under a lease and then i purchased it in march of 2021.
Windshield has two cracks on opposite sides extending from bottom of windshield upwards. One appears to be impact-related. The other does not. Cracks are extending toward the location of the subaru eyesight safety system cameras.
Windshield cracked due to an unknown reason.13" crack in the center of the windshield starting at the base.vehicle was stationary.my only speculation is that snow covered the windshield during the night and the sun heated the interior of the vehicle in the morning causing an abrupt temperature stress on the glass.defective windshield.
The windshield cracked over half way across due to no apparent reason. Noticed it in the morning after vehicle had been parked in a protected area. The crack continued to get bigger over the next day and now covers over half of the windshield.
I encountered a chip in my front passenger windshield with cracking going up and down vertically. My car was stationary.
Windshield cracked for no observable reason and was replaced
I was scraping ice off the windshield with a plastic/typical ice scraper and it shattered at the edge of the windshield on the driver side, which then caused a 5" crack which has continued to lengthen.the car was stationary in my driveway at the time.
Driving in a highway at around 45-50 mph, heard a sound, and windshield was cracked for more than 12 inches long.
Windshield cracked and is now half across from passenger side. No known rock hit same. Googled and noticed dozens of windshields cracked from structural defects. Subaru claims this is why eyesight cuts off " eyesight cannot see it don't work." so i guess it doesn't work at night?
Cracked and chipped windshield for no apparent reason. Replaced 2-14-20
Cracked windshield from a tiny rock. Came from a car going opposite direction. Hit drivers side bottom left corner and ran all off the way across.
The windshield has a crack stemming from the bottom left (driver side) going across to the right (passenger side) and there isn't any signs of it being caused by road debris. It just appeared as i was getting home
I've had my 2018 forester for just one year and two windshields have cracked from minor rock strikes. The factory windshield was replaced at 11,670 miles on 12/17/2018 and was replaced with subaru oem glass. Now at 24,000 miles the replacement windshield has cracked from a minor rock strike. I was driving the vehicle when a car passed me. The sound of the rock strike was barely noticeable and i didn't notice the damage until my passenger pointed it out to me. Subaru windshields are too fragile and break easily which is a safety risk. I will be replacing this second subaru windshield with aftermarket glass.
Windshield has numerous cracks and chips from several events. It chips and cracks too easily. All events happened while in motion with speeds between 35 and 70 mph.
The windshield cracked as i was driving down a street. Nothing hit it. There were no other cars near me. The crack started at the outer edge of the windshield.
The windshield developed a crack while i was sitting in a parking lot. It emanates from right above the driver side windshield wiper. There is no evidence of rock strike.
While driving my 2018 subaru forester on a highway at 70 mph, an 11.5" crack appeared in the windshield with no apparent cause of the damage. The crack extends from the edge of the glass horizontally. Close inspection revealed a chip about 3/8" from the edge of the windshield measuring no wider than 1/16". Given the immediacy and the extent of the damage, i believe this is a sign of defective windshield material. I am also concerned that this crack will grow very quickly before i am able to get it repaired.
I join complainants with a subaru windshield crack. A crack mysteriously started at the base of my windshield on the passenger side.i don't recall anything hitting it, and there's no sign of any impact (ding, chip, nothing!). I can't determine where or how it may have started (crack runs to base of windshield).since appearing, it's grown about halfway up, and now halfway across the windshield. I understand from a news article a class action suit is pending which includes a vast number of subaru vehicles - multiple models & years - experiencing windshield cracks. My model and year is included in the class. I file my complaint as a result of finding the news story, which suggests a complaint be filed.
A crack appeared randomly in the center of the windshield.
Encountering 2 issues: windshield was cracked and front wheel alignment caused uneven wear and tear on front tires
In under two years, i have had to replace the windshield on my vehicle twice.the first time, a rock hit my windshield which caused a very small chip.the following afternoon, the chip had become a large crack the came down from the top of the windshield nearly halfway down the windshield.i paid the extra money to replace the windshield with oem glass.more recently (less than 1.5 years later), the wiper blades on my windshield were replaced.the one wiper blade would not let go and the blade came back down on the windshield with the spring.no marks were observed in the windshield.the following afternoon, a crack came up from the blade and ran across nearly 1/3 of the windshield.the date recorded is for the second incident.
Defective windshield. No stones or rocks hit it. Just started cracking in numerous locations from cold weather. Seemed like it cracked when the defroster was put on in cold weather. Cracks everywhere.
Windshield cracked due to excessive heat. Car was sitting in driveway when i cam out in the morning a large crack from the passenger side near the body went across to the center of the vehicle my the rear view mirror
Cracked windshield with no apparent cause
My windshield has cracked easily in multiple locations while driving on the freeway. In the little over a year that i have owned this vehicle it has cracked sooner and more often than my two prior vehicles. The ease of which my windshield has cracked is concerning for the safety of the driver due to the integrity of the windshield being so easily impaired.
2018 subaru forester with eyesight.16 inch long curved crack originating from defroster area at bottom of windshield on driver's side, curving up into driver's field of vision.crack occurred while vehicle was stationary, parked in owner's driveway.nothing was seen or heard striking the windshield before the crack suddenly appeared.
I woke up one morning to find a crack in my windshield in the bottom right (passenger side). I park my car in our driveway, not in the street. I rarely even drive on the highway as i work a half mile from my house.
The windshield of my 2018 forester spontaneously cracked eight months after purchase while driving on i-25 eight months after purchase. There was no collision or impact that caused the crack. I had the windshield replaced by safelite autoglass on march 26, 2019. The cost for replacement after insurance was $200.
Vehicle was stationary, parked, engine was off, no one was in the car.crack spontaneously appeared from base of windshield up about 5 inches.there was no crack in the windshield when i parked the car.there was no rock chip on the way up.i looked closely at the crack and there is no evidence of a rock chip, no divot anywhere along the crack, none whatsoever.when i returned, a crack had spontaneously appeared.the service dept at eastside subaru in kirkland, wa, said to call my insurance and that it's not covered though the car has basic warranty and an extended warranty.
I was driving down my street (a side street in front of my house) and the car in front of me spit out a rock.it hit my windshield and broke.it broke from left to right, almost completely across.my dealer had to order the wind shield.it was installed on 9/8/18 which also required a re-calibration of the eye sight system.i have the receipts from the dealer, but didn't want to upload them since it had personal information on them.
Unknown. I drove my car back from a weekend trip and saw no damage during that time. I then parked in my driveway and did not drive my car again for 3 days. When i returned to drive my car, there was a large crack across the driver's side of the windshield. The crack did not seem to have propagated from damage from a projectile and was not present when i had driven my car 3 days earlier. Based on the size and location of the crack, i had to replace the windshield.
An acorn falling out of a tree out a 14' crack in my windshield while parked that i had to pay to replace
Windshield has cracked while vehicle was at idle for no reason and no imapct
On several occasions while driving on the highway, my eyesight feature suddenly disengages and my cruise control ceases to work and no lane assist or other safety features contained with the "eyesight package" work for extended periods of time.this has occurred when it is raining or snowing.
Our 2018 subaru forester has been sitting in our driveway every day since march 2020 when the covid crisis kept us housebound. We make a few short trips around town per week. Just today (july 28, 2020) my wife noticed a big crack in the lower windshield on the passenger side. Then she noticed the same type of crack in the moonroof glass. We have barely been driving the car and would certainly have noticed if a pebble or other debris hit the windshield and moonroof so hard that the two cracks developed. (also there's no chance that a tree fell on it and we simply failed to notice.) we were about to take the car on a 9-hour road trip in two days but are concerned that further damage will occur and we will be stranded. Very disappointing.
Was driving along on the freeway on my way to work, heard a crack, but did not pay much attention. When i got to work, i saw a crack in the bottom part of the windshield approx 2inches in length. When i got back from work and looked at the crack the next day, it appears that's the crack grew another 2 inches. Called my dealer ship and soa (subaru of america and filled a reportand asked if my less that 1 year old car that had its windshield crack spontaneously is covered , i was told not and that replacement parts will cost est $750.
Windshieldcracked from passenger edge to middle of drivers side. Nothing hit it, it just cracked while it was sitting in my carport
Windshield cracked with no causing damage. Short crack in motion that grew over several nights while parked. The brake pedal went to the floor while stopped at a light. Had towed to the dealer
Windshield cracked prematurely at first few months of car being purchased new.
While driving i heard a very loud bang and immediately saw the windshield was cracked. There was no traffic or vehicles in front of me on the local highway traveling at 55 mph.the bang startled me so bad i started to swerve into the other lane. When i reached my destination i was surprised to see how long the crack extended. I took the camera off the windshield to get pictures of the full extent of the crack.
Windshield spontaneously cracked.large crack appeared down the middle of the windshield when car was parked/stationary in driveway.
Cracked windshield appear out of nowhere during the month of july 2019. Vehicle was stationary in my garage. Noticed it next morning when starting the vehicle in my garage. Car not even a year old. No rock or hail was in contact with windshield prior day or even up to this day.
I purchased this car 7/31/18. On 12/21/18 (odometer 3,427 miles), the first morning with a hard frost, i found that my 2018 subaru forester (stationary and parked in my driveway) had developed a crack overnight from the lower left corner of the driver's side upward. (no crack the day before) i drove the car 3 miles to work, called the dealership where i purchased it, and scheduled a service manager evaluation appointment that morning. I drove 12 more miles to the dealership. In under 3 hours, driving total 15 miles, since discovering the crack and arriving at the dealership, the crack had progressed up and across the driver's side of the windshield. The service manager agreed to replace the windshield at no cost to me, "as a one-time good will gesture". He pointed to the base of the crack which began at the bottom of the black area bordering the base of the windshield, claimed he could see a chip, and dug his pen into the glass to enlarge the crack. To me, this are looked more a flaw in the glass where broken windshield may have had a flaw had flexed due to the freezing weather. He described the damage as a chip on my repair ticket, which is misleading if an analysis is done on the crack, but it supports the ticket's note that this was a 1-time repair at no charge, with no guarantee of future similar repairs. The dealer delayed the repair due to christmas, and the crack continued to progress across the windshield. Replacement installation scheduled for 12/26/18. Arriving for my appointment i was told the windshield was ordered but the dealer failed to schedule an installer. They kept my car until the repair was completed on 12/28/19. They provided a loaner car. Researching subaru windshield cracks online, i learned that subaru windshields have a problem with spontaneously cracking, beginning with a 2016 outback recall, but forester owners also are reporting cracks.
Windshield upper passenger side is cracked approx 12" overnight for no apparent reason. It was parked stationary in a covered garage.
While leaving for work this morning, i noticed a crack on my windshield on the lower passenger side, right above the front speaker. It appears the crack is only on the inside and is not caused by any outside damage or force.
Windshield developed a linear crack after being struck by an empty wiper arm during the changing of a wiper blade. The crack grew from 6 inches on the first day to 14 inches on the second day.
Noticed small crack in windshield last tuesday, starting just above a clip on wiper.assumed, at firstit was dirty windshield from light rain & wiper use, but then saturday it moved about 6 inches mid day parked then halfway across driver side a couple of hours later parked. I have not been hit by anything big or small.i have read that this windshield issue has been in everysubaru models. I want subaru to pay for this!
A small rock flew up and hit the windshield while driving on the highway, cracking the windshield. The windshield should be able to withstand the impact of a rock that small.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated while entering the vehicle she noticed a crack in the windshield. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of this issue. The approximate failure mileage was not available.
I was driving through a parking lot and the windshield cracked as i went over a speed bump.
Windsheild cracked on passenger side for no reason
I have had this car since april 2018. During my first week of ownership a small rock hit my windshield while driving on the highway and put a crack in iti got repaired. I'm constantly getting chips. I avoid driving behind semis and other large trucks.i have been reading that this is a very common problem with late year subaru's. I feel subaru needs to improve the quality of glass they use. I want my experience with subaru documented. Hope something can be done. I've never had such a brittle windshield before.
Windshield broken too easily
We recently bought the car certified pre-owned and less than a week later there was a mysterious chip out of the windshield. Nothing happened while we were driving to cause this chip, so i believe it happened while stationary.
Windshield was chipped by a flying rock 1/2 inch from lr corner while driving.next day while parked in a parking lot during the day, a 3 foot crack developed in windshield.the next day the windshield cracked in half while sitting in the sun while parked.replaced windshield and now the passanger side of the front seat floods when it rains.
I was on the highway and my windshield suddenly cracked in my field of view, creating a safety hazard.once stopped, idiscovered that there was a tiny chip near the bottom center of the windshield, near the heating element beneath the wipers, so small that i was unaware of anything ever hitting it while driving.something so small should not have compromised the windshield in such a major way, making it difficult for me to see.
Our windshield cracked spontaneously, starting at the wiper park heater on the driver side. The car was parked in a parking garage when the crack spontaneously appeared.
I was driving on a side street, about 20mph when the rear door window on the drivers side shattered. It appeared spontaneous, i didn't specifically hear anything hit the window, and i don't remember there being other cars around that would've kicked something up off the road...i just heard a pop and all the glass shattering. Earlier that morning i had heard creaking noises that i had thought was just stuff moving around in the back of the car, but maybe it was the window beginning to fail?
Multiple cracks on the windshield. Some cracks are from very small rocks and my insurance covered it . The most recent crack is very large and didnt appear to start from any rock. This windshield feels very unsafe.the vehicle was stationary .
The windshield cracked and broke without any noticeable other damage and without having been struck while in operation. There is now a large crack across the middle of the windshield. I would have just replaced the glass without further issue, but a friend who is also a subaru owner experienced a strangely similar crack occurring without any other damage, and without any issues while operating the vehicle. It seems odd that the same issue would occur twice in a short span. I am wondering how many of the exact same issues have been reported to subaru and whether they should have launched an investigation at this point. The car has had numerous other (smaller) quality issues for the duration of the time i have been driving it so i would also expect that this is not the first time subaru has been notified of this particular issue. I do not have a photo of the crack with me presently but am more than happy to provide one if it will aid in this review. Thank you.
Changing wipers blades. Blade hit passenger side windshield and creates a 12 inch crack.windshield had to be replaced.
Before entering freeway, at low speed, a crack appeared on the windshield. Seems to stem from the lower black strip on the windshield. There is a small impact point stemming from the black strip along the lower side of the windshield and the crack immediately grew to about 10'' vertically upward from that. The next day, the crack curved and grew another 10-15'' in length across the passenger side. I did not notice anything impact the windshield. A car was ahead of me but was about 2-3 car lengths ahead at low speed as it was a frontage road before entering the freeway ramp.
The contact owns a 2018 subaru forester. The contact stated while entering the vehicle, it was discovered that there was another crack in the windshield. The contact stated there were no rocks or any foreign objects that caused the crack. The contact stated that the windshield was replaced once for a similar failure. The vehicle was not taken to be inspected nor repaired. Neither a dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
The windshield on my 2018 subaru forester had to be replaced on april 16, 2019 and august 13, 2019 due to rock strikes in the bottom or side of the windshield (the black section of the windshield closest to the metal.today, may 3, 2020 a crack larger than 12 inches appeared.the crack began on the bottom of the windshield (again in the black section). I checked closely and there wasn't a rock strike.the crack spontaneously appeared.
I have had to replace the windshield of my 2018 subaru forester (purchased new) two times in less than 3 years due to (minor) rock strikes (highway driving) in the lower quarter of the windshield. I now have a third cracked windshield.i have been driving for 45 years and i don't believe i have ever had to replace a windshield until i bought this car!i have read that this is not an isolated incident with subarus and that one lawsuit was settled and that 1-2 additional lawsuits, involving 2017-2019 foresters are pending
Eyesight shuts off , in rain when most needed. Dealer states it is ok.
I was driving down highway no one was around me. I heard a small ping. The next morning there was a large crack across the driver side. I have never had a windshield crack even with much more force. My first thought was the windshield is defective. The same thing happened to my sister who bought a new crosstrek.
When i was driving on the highway, a small rock hit my windshield in the left corner (from the driver's perspective) of the windshield. Although the initial damage to the windshield was a small dent in the windshield (pictured below) the crack started spreading as we drove and reached over 2/3 of the windshield in length (also pictured below). It seems unreasonable that such a small dent should cause more than half of the windshield to crack. As a result, i think that the weak construction of the windshield is what caused this large damage to it. Although the crack isn't seeming to spread past its current length, it is still a concern that the windshield might break in half at some point in the future, especially during the winter or if another small rock were to hit it.
Windshield got cracked without any visible reason while parked in garage, and crack gradually went all across the window. That made driving not safe. Windshield replacement was not covered by warranty and did cost a bit over $1500 including eyesight recalibration. All paperwork for repair/calibration is available.
Windshield glass suddenly cracked on right side from the edge toward the left side.crack is about 12" long.windshield was not struck from rock or road debris.i noticed when i got in the car when stationary in the garage.
The windshield cracked, the crack is growing from bottom passenger side and up, heading mid shield towards driver. No logical reason for crack. No rock chip market, no accident.
I purchased a 3 month used certified 2018 subaru forester xt from a dealer. After driving for commuting for a month or so, i realized there was a crack on the windshield. I don't know what caused it or how it happened but one day i saw the crack out of no where.
A spontaneous crack in front windshield with no history or evidence of rock whip or damage occurred with brand new vehicle (130 miles),crack began at roof line in area immediately above the rearview mirror and extended below the "dot shading" around the rear view mirror.glass repair person noted no evidence of damage, window was replaced and billed to my insurance.now at 32,000 miles in the same location, another crack has appeared.glass repair person again reports no evidence of rock chip or damage, and he thinks that the crack seems to be on the inside, not on the outside.i am the only driver, and the car is garaged when not in use..i am not certain of the date this occurred the first or second time because it begins in an area where the mirror obstructs my view of it and i don't notice until it extends beyond the rearview mirror.first time it was noted when i took care in to have glass treatment put on (to reduce night glare) and they were unable to do it because of the crack.the car only had 136 miles at this time.second timei noticed it about 11/2/19.scheduled for replacement on 12/5/19.
While driving on a paved road(no gravel or rocks present), my windshield cracked in the lower passenger side.i had the windshield replaced and the safety system recalibrated at a cost of almost $900.i was driving on a straight road at about 45 mph at the time.
Windshield cracks after no apparent reason. No impact or anything to cause cracks. Vehicle was stationary and a crack appeared on the windshield.
We have now had to replace the windshield twice.both times, there was a crack originating from the bottom of the glass and coming up into the line of site.both times, the crack occurred without an apparent rock hit or other issue.both times, the crack was noticed after the car had been stationary with no apparent issues.the first time we took it to subaru, who said it was probably a rock.i saw no evidence of a rock.
Have had to replace windshield full replacements 3 times in 2 1/2 years.usually a small rock kicked up from highway starts the chip and it spreads very quickly. I have had chip filled but it still cracks across the windshield so the whole windshield has to be replaced again.
This is the second time within 2 years of the windshield suddenly cracking where a small chip was.windshield chips very easily.months later the window will all of a sudden crack.once was when we turned on thedefroster; second time was window was cold and temperature outside was warmer.first time happened was 12/2017.second time was 5/2019.
Windshield is randomly cracked and now has a big spider crack on the lower end of the windshield of the driver side.
Cracking windshield once a year since last year.
Windshield chip repaired immediately at approximately 30k miles. Cracked across the entire windshield.
On july 5, 2019, i had my windshield replaced after multiple cracks appeared on both the driver's side and the top-middle part. The driver's side crack was from debris that impacted it directly while driving on city streets. The additional crack at the top-middle part was unexplained as there was no impact on it by rocks or debris while driving. A year later on september 19, 2020, i had the windshield replaced a second time after a rock impacted the side edge of the windshield and frame of the car sending spider cracks into the middle layer of the windshield. This happened in mid-august. A third incident occurred on october 18, 2020, when a small rock hit the windshield in the middle causing the windshield to crack in the middle layer and is now being sealed.
Have had my 2018 subaru forester for almost 4 years now and it has approx. 29855 miles. Before the crack appeared i had no damage to my windshield. While driving down the interstate, i heard a a slight pop almost like a bottle dent popping out because of carbonation at the time their were no other vehicles traveling in my vicinity, shortly after hearing the noise my passenger noticed the crack.
Windshield has easily cracked multiple times and is very expensive to fix.
Driving down the street in the city my windshield suddenly broke.
I am writing again because i have another chip in my windshield.it looks like it is starting to crack; just like the last two times.it doesn't seem right that car insurance should have to cover a poor quality product.it costs almost a thousand dollars each time.it is also a safety issue to be driving down the road and all of a sudden the windshield cracks.i can't imagine what would happen to these windshields if anyone was ever in an accident.
The windshield simply cracked under the passenger wiper and quickly spread across the windshield. There was no viable impact and it appeared overnight. This happened in early september and we are still waiting for an oem replacement from subaru.
Found a 10" crack in the windshield after parking in a garage overnight. It runs horizontal from about the middle of the passenger side window edge toward the center. It happened while the car was parked overnight.
Front windshield glass was cracked unexpectedly when parked, when the replacement was installed, it cracked again.
Within the first several months of ownership the windsheild cracked for no apparent reason. The dealership said is was due to a small chip.
A crack appear on my subaru forester 2018 windshield it was not cause by a rock it just appear
The windshield cracked really quickly. Not normal.
I just read of a class action suit against subaru for defective windshields in late model foresters. We had to replace the windshield on our 2018 subaru forester in august of 2018. We came out of the house one day and noticed the crack in the windshield. We did not know there was a widespread problem with this issue.
I bought my 2018 subaru forester in december of 2018. In august of 2019, a small pebble hit the lower left side of my windshield while i was driving home from work on a city street. The next afternoon, i noticed an approximate 2 foot crack across the left side of my windshield when i got in my car, and it significantly impaired my ability to see as it was right in the middle of my line of vision. I had to wait about a month until a replacement windshield was approved by my insurance, ordered by a local repair shop, and finally installed in my vehicle. Less than four months after replacing my windshield, a tiny pebble the size of a pinhead hit the lower left side of my windshield again. I couldn't even see a mark, it was so small. One day when i was getting in my car, i noticed a foot long crack in almost the exact same place as last time. Once again, it is impairing my ability to see well. My car has 10,000 miles on it and i rarely drive other than to work and back home. I've had several other cars in the past 18 years and have driven them much more than this vehicle and never once did my previous windshields ever crack. It seems like subaru must have defective windshields as they crack far too easily. This seems like a major safety issue and needs to be investigated.
After not driving my vehicle for 2 months due to covid i noticed i have a huge crack that grew by at least an inch a day whilst the car was in my garage. The crack started on the bottom black portion where it looks like it chipped (see photo) the windshield and has spidered from there. I have measured the crack daily with a chalk marker and the crack will soon be across the windshield.
Spontaneous crack in windshield.began as small crack center of windshield on passenger side.spread to the left.no apparent damage at start of crack..crack initially very small and noticed by passengerwhile driving.
While driving glass chips appeared, unexpectedly, on three multiple locations.

Large windshield crack for no apparent reason. Vehicle was parked in our garage at the time.
Windshield cracked all the way across from the tiniest little ding from a rock.
Windshield cracked in one spot, then the crack spread throughout the entire windshield. Had to get the entire windshield replaced.
Drove to diner parked car when we returned the windshield was cracked no apparentdamage inside or outside
Windshield crack/chip.i noticed this while at a stoplight and not in motion.chip seemed to appear on it's own.this seems to be a very common issue on these model foresters, glass isn't up to par.
I heard a loud pop when driving on a major road. Just driving. I looked up at the rear view and saw the windshield had a very large / long crack in it. I called subaru dealership they told me to call my insurance company.no mention of problems with windshields.

Since i purchased my vehicle in 2018, when i'm driving on the freeway at a speed between 65 to 70 my tires feel unbalanced. Sometimes it feels like my car is swerving and it feels like it's hard to control the car .
The tire pressure sensor came on and even after the tires were checked and correct air was put in the sensor would not go off. We took it to the dealer and they said it would cost $170.00 to replace one of the tire pressure sensors they said were faulty. Neither my warranty or extended warranty would cover it. My husband then purchased a tire pressure sensor and took it to a local mechanic shop for them to replace it, which have cost a total of $40.00. The mechanic put it on their computers and couldn't identify a bad sensor, but something showing wrong in one of the computers reading the sensor. We are going to have to take it back to the dealer and try to get this rectified. If it is a computer then i feel it is a safety issue since we can not get an accurate reading and the tire pressure light is staying lit up on the dashboard.
