Warning light came on in the car indicating a problem with the air bag system.subaru service determined that the air bags would not activate in a collision due to a malfunction with the passenger seat air bad mechanism..subaru service said the the system needs replacement.no recalls for this model and year has been recalled but previous subaru forester models from 2010 to 2013 had a similar problem and a recall was made for them.

I was driving down the highway with my wife in the passenger seat when the airbag warning light turned on and the passenger airbag turned off. In the event of a crash my wife's life would have been in great danger.

2014 subaru forester.attorney representing consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration collision.as the consumer approached a handicap space, he slowed down to approximately 2-3 mph and when he removed his foot from the accelerator and applied the brake to stop, the vehicle accelerated rapidly and struck two parked vehicles and then came to a stop, the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled.

Recently i had an accident where my car was hit by a van. My car was not stationarybut was at a lesser speed than the car which hit. I was taking a left turn when the van hit. The impact was a lot such that the other cars airbags got deployed. More damage was done to my car. The entire front of the car is gone. I was surprised as to how unsafe my car was as the airbags did not get deployed.

Front passenger seat air bag sensor, frontpassenger seat occupancy sensor, front passenger seat airbag computer, red air bag warning light, yellow passenger airbag "on/off" light, seat belt warning and chime.air bag disabled warning intermittently comes on when passenger seat is occupied, seat belt fastened, car out of gear, stationary.sometimes stopping engine, key off and removed, then engine restarted will reset this warning.other times during normal driving, passenger seat occupied, seat belt latched, air bag warning (red) light will occurs and yellow pass airbag active light will indicate passenger airbag inactive. When front pass seat empty or with weight as light as 2 pounds on the seat, seat belt warning light and chime comes on when speed exceeds 5 mph.sometimes this alarm can be reset by sharply striking seat, sometimes not, and trip must be completed with the seat belt buckled.in this case the passenger airbag light usually shows inactive.the seat belt issue has been happening for about 2 years, getting more frequent.the airbag issue has been happening during the last two months, starting just after the stop light switch recall maintenance was performed at subaru dealer in las vegas, nv.

My 2014 subaru forester 2.0 xt has had some issues with the warning lights come on. One of them has been the passenger side airbag light. When no one is sitting in the seat the seatbelt warning will chime the entire time i'm driving, then eventually the airbag sensor light will come on and i'll receive an indicator to have it checked. Upon taking it to the subaru dealer they informed me that i would need an entire bottom seat at the cost of $1,000 plus $400 for install. I was told the part would take a month to come in as it has to be custom made. I was told that when the light is on none of my airbags would function on the vehicle. With two children i can't be driving a car that doesn't have working air bags. I've been borrowing a family vehicle for the last week while i try and work with subaru corporate to get the cost of the repair fixed.it seems to me there should be a cheaper option to replace the computer sensor that's under the passenger seat. I've also read on some online forums that apple products, in particular iphones laid in the seat can impact this sensor. That seems like an issue as well. I'm hoping subaru ends up paying for my seat or covering part of the repair since it sounds like a malfunction that doesn't have an easy fix, and the impact of the malfunction is to not have any functioning airbags.

Air bag sometimes does not detect passenger in seat. Dealer had for three days and could not find or repair the problem. Bevan several months ago but last happened yesterday.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that the "system off" warning message illuminated when a passenger was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The message indicated that the air bags were not activated. In order for the system to engage and perform as needed, an occupant would have to move back and forth within the seat and restart the vehicle for the "system on" warning message to illuminate. The manufacturer was not notified. Lester glenn subaru (1501 nj-37, toms river, nj 08755, (888) 785-0675) was notified of the matter and informed the contact to bring in the vehicle for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.

While driving my car on the highway, (approximate 65 mph) i got a message on the console that indicated that srs system had shut down and the red air baglight went on. I drove it home and then turned the car off.when i restarted it, the red air bag light went away. The next day while i was riding on the passenger side, the red airbag light went off and a note on the console said that the front passenger side airbag was not operational. I took the vehicle to the subaru dealer who could not recreate the issue and turned the car back to us.

While driving on the highway, my passenger seatbelt light was going off & dinging-did not have a passenger-turns out it was my airbag in my passenger seat.-faulty switch. While driving on city streets my abs, hill start assist & vehicle dynamics lights all came on-faulty switch again. While driving and parked my blue tooth disconnects & still says it is connected, drops calls, not able to place calls, not able to listen to anything through my phone that is supposed to be connected to my blue tooth. It is illegal to have a handheld phone and use it while driving-this is not safe-subaru of america continues to say there is nothing wrong with my stereo or car that its my phone well i upgraded my phone to a samsung s9 & i continue to have this problem on a daily basis!

2014 subaru forester. The srs airbag light has come on. I took the vehicle to the local subaru dealership and they claim the cause is a sensor within the passenger seat being broken. This is a safety concern and should be reviewed.

My 2014 subaru accelerated as i pulled into a parking spot hitting a tree. My foot was on the brake when this happened.my air bags did not deploy .

We had the oil changed in july. In the middle of september i added nearly 1 quart of oil. The oil light came back on again october 15th and assuming it is low on oil again. After extensive on-line research, it seems an oil consumption program is an issue that is affecting out vehicle among countless other model years and other manfacturer's as well. It did not matter if the vehicles was turning, in motion, idle or driving location, the low oil light would remain on. The air bag light indicator has been coming on and off for the last 3 months. We brought the vehicle into the dealer the middle of july once this happened. Since the light was not on at the time, the dealer could not diagnose it. Since the indicator light is appears and then disappears, it has been difficult to get to the dealer and time when the indicator light decides to re-appear.the indicator light re-appeared and we scheduled the appointment to get for a diagnosis.the diagnostic confirmed there is a bad switch under the seat. We were asked if we have an i-phone and charge the phone while it is on the passenger seat. Yes, that may or may not have happened. We were told this is not an issue with an android phone. The dealer offered to replace this item but resulted in an approx. $1,000.00 bill. They mentioned they would pay approx. 90% of the cost.it does not matter if the car is on, turing, in motion city or highway driving.

When ever any blue tooth device or battery powered device is held by the passenger, the passenger airbag is disabled.this presents a safety issue as the airbag can not be turned on util after the car has been turned off and on > 5 times.

My steering wheel air bag spontaneously deployed as i was slowly driving in the lot of a sheetz gas station after just getting off the interstate (estimate my speed at 5 mph in the gas station lot)there was no inciting incident.i was wearing my seat belt so only injury was a burn and bruise to my left hand.the vehicle remained on and otherwise functional.

Last week i had an issue when no one was in the passenger seat but the seatbelt chiming continued to go off. This happened even after turning off and restarting the car. The issue seemed to be resolved until i noticed the passenger airbag was off when i was driving my mom. Then a warning, "srs airbag system needs to be checked", came on and has not turned off. I see a recall for 2015-2018 foresters, but none with my vin number. Of course, i've searched online and it seems to be a problem with others. I know moisture could be an issue, but i don't remember spilling anything recently.i wanted to report this in case another recall should be made.

***srs airbag system needs to be checked***this warning has has occurred at least 5-6x's now in the last two months. Every occurrence there has been a passenger seated and occurs immediately as i go from park to drive. A recall was issued for 2015-2018 foresters equipped with heated seats due to an airbag sensor defect. Details of the recall are identical to the problems on my 2014 forester. It's the passenger side airbag having issues and my passenger seat is heated. I have two children and often transport my mother to medical appointments. When the warning message illuminates the passenger airbag will not deploy in an accident. This isserious safety issue and $1200 to fix a safety issue on a vehicle 5-6years old is absurd. The investigation which was done for passenger airbag sensor recall wum-98 needs to be revisited and i guarantee it will find the number of affected vehicles will grow.

My airbag srs popped up when on a road trip and said the passenger airbag was offso i freaked out as my boyfriend was driving and then driving back it just turned off and the airbag light said it was on. Very weird called my subaru and charged me for them to go on and look and said it would be over $1000 to fix but they really didn't know where the issue was coming from and i would be out of a car for a week.

My vehicle has a problem with the airbag system. I was first alerted by my cars warning system, which states 'srs airbag system needs to be checked' and gives me a red warning symbol of the airbag being inflated. Secondly it shows my passenger airbag is off even when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. This warning did not come on due to a collision as my vehicle has never been in a collision or involved in an accident otherwise. It simply appeared seemingly out of nowhere for no reason at all. I have taken my vehicle in several times to different subaru dealerships to ask what the problem is. I was first told there was no problem with the system that perhaps it was just a malfunction in the sensor. Then the other dealerships told me that there was an issue with the passenger seat sensor, but that they are unable to confirm if this is the source of the problem causing the airbag light to come on and the passenger airbag to be turned off. They said i would need to replace the entire passenger seat, but they were unsure if this would fix the issue. I took it to an independent machanic and they also were unable to verify the source of the problem and referred me back to the subaru dealership. I contacted subaru of america about the issue and i never received any communication from them, although they promised to get back to me about the issue. I just know there is nothing i could have done to make this problem appear. I believe this is a manufacturer issue, just based on the fact that subaru could not identify what the problem is or it's cause. So far i just have been told the passenger seat sensor is somehow defective and that it is not covered under any warranty.

This subaru occupant detection system in my 2014 forester is defective. It does not detect my wife and the passenger air bag does not turn on. We have been told by subaru that they have recently changed to an "electrostatic capacitance sensor" to replace the previous "weight sensor". My wife needs to sit on a seat cushion as the seats are too hard for her medical condition. Subaru told us the seat cushion will not allow the ods to verify a person is sitting in the seat and will not turn on the passenger airbag.ialso discovered that wet clothing (wet raincoat) will also defeat the sensor and the airbag will not be turned on. This is totally unacceptable and dangerous to all passengers. The only suggestion from subaru was for my wife to sit in the back seat.subaru customer service advised me that your department is mandating that all vehicles use this electrostatic capacitance sensor. I strongly urge your department to reconsider mandating this sensor as the old "weight sensor " in my 2011 outback works just fine with a cushion.

Passenger occupancy sensor faulty. With an adult passenger present in the seat, the passenger airbag system will frequently turn off while the vehicle is in motion. This can sometimes be resolved by pulling over and restarting the vehicle. Restarting the vehicle does nor reliably resolve the error.

Vehicle driving down the interstate when the passenger airbag warning light first came on and it has been on ever since.have taken it to local subaru dealership and they said that the airbag sensor/passenger seat need to be replaced.they determined that there was no damage (water or blunt force) that occurred to the feature and that it was nothing we had done; however, it would not be replaced under any type of warranty.since subaru prides themselves in safety, it seems odd that they wouldn't do anything to remedy this complaint that has been cited repeatedly, especially since it is no fault to the owner but rather a manufacturing issue.

Passenger airbag was off with passenger on seat.it corrected itself for a while and now is off whether there is or isn't a passenger aboard.

Occupant detection system (ods) malfunctioning. Passenger airbag is off when an adult is seated in the front passenger seat. Sometimes the passenger airbag is on while there is no one (and nothing) on the seat, causing the seat belt warning chime to occur until seat belt is buckled. Supplemental restraint system (srs) light appears on dashboard and shuts down airbag system while driving. These things occur somewhat randomly when starting the car, continue while driving in the city and highway, and don't go away until the car is turned off. Sometimes restarting the car will correct the problem. I brought my forester to the dealership back in 2017 and they reported that the sensors of the ods system were not working properly and will need to be replaces. Cost estimate is about $1,100. They said the likely cause is moisture or the seat got wet. I live in a dry climate area and have not gotten the seats wet at all recently (and barely ever in the past). Through research, i have found a very similar problem has occurred in the 2015-2018 models and there is a recall (wum-98) for those years. My forester is a 2014 and is of the same generation but isn't included in the recall for some reason. Is it possible that the 2014 model should also be included if the same problem is happening? appreciate any help and insight you can offer!

Driving at 65 mph on a 2 lane highway dry conditions in the early morning when i hit a deer in the front, causing major damage and the airbags did not deploy.this is a serious safety issue.

My subaru forestor from 2014 has a faulty airbag system for the passenger seat. It says that it is off when a passenger is in the seat and gives the warning light. When no one is in the seat it still beeps sometimes and i can only stop it by buckling the seat. This is a safety hazard and is subaru's fault. I have never spilled anything on the passenger seat and it just failed. This issue happens more often than not and is random in the car.i took it to subaru and they said that i spilled something on the seat and would have to replace the whole sensor for over $1200.i have seen complaints from subaru models of all kinds with the same issue on multiple websites. It is in a variety of models and different year cars.

My daughter was driving at 40 mph oncity street when a car drove out of a parking lot, across and in front of her, she had hardly any time to applied the brakes and hit the side of the other car, my car suffered extended damage and the airbag did not deployed. I am very concerned about the safety of the subaru.

I was turning left on an arrow and a car ran the red light resulting in a head on collision with me, i was driving about 3mph and he was driving 45mph. His car was totalled, airbags deployed and on fire. I had front end damage and my airbags did not deploy nor did the seat belt lock up. As a result i hit the steering wheel with my knee and my ankle got lacerated and blunt trauma from the brake/accelartation pedal.

My 2014 subaru forrester accelerated and hit a tree as i pulled into a parking space. It tboned the front end and and the air bags did not deploy..i was going into the space very slowly and it was when it accelerated.

Our forester has a problem with its airbag system. It would alert us on the dashboard that 'srs airbag system needs to be checked' and a red warning symbol of the airbag being inflated.in addition, it would show my passenger airbag is off even when someone was sitting in the passenger seat.this happened one time when we were on our driveway just starting to leave; other times while we were driving down local streets; maybe one time on a highway too.it seems to be more frequent in recent months.now no one sits on the passenger seat upfront while we try to find a solution to the airbag problem that our subaru dealership seems to be clueless. We believe this is a manufacturer issue, just based on the fact that subaru dealership mechanic could not identify what the problem is or its cause. So far i have been told the passenger seat sensor is somehow defective and that it is not covered under any warranty.this is a major safety issue that subaru should have it rectified real fast before any life islost.

Takata recall

My 2014 subaru forester has recently started having warnings about srs. Passenger seat sensor occasionally does not recognize a passenger is seated and therefore the airbag is 'off' even if seat is occupied. Both front seats are heated and it looks like this is the same issue that lead to a recall for 2015 subaru foresters. Please extend the recall to include 2014 models. Very unsafe and costly ($900-$1,200 according to other complaints) to repair this sensor in order to have the passenger airbag operational. Passenger seatbelt warning also occasionallycomes on even if there is no one sitting in seat.

Airbag light came on while on long road trip.the light remained on for the 5 hours remaining on the drive.the entire passenger seat had to be replaced.the part, labor and taxes came to a total of $1007.22.

While my son was driving normally with a passenger in the right front passenger seat 2 days ago, the red airbag sensor light came on and passenger airbag sign went to "off". I took it to the subaru dealer in olympia, wa and they claimed this was caused by water damage (we had never spilled water in that seat) and they wanted $2100 to fix the problem by replacing the entire right passenger seat assembly. We are going to have it fixed elsewhere, but then while driving on the way home from the subaru dealership yesterday, the airbag sensor light went off and the right passenger airbag started working again.right now it is working again. While it was not working, it didn't matter whether the car was in motion or stopped. This is a very unsafe condition if a passenger is riding in the front seat. We can't depend on the airbag being there if needed in an accident.

2014 subaru forester.consumer writes in regards to parts not available to complete front passengerair recall notice.the consumer referenced recall # 15v323000. The consumer provided a vin. However, it is for a 2008 subaru forest.

According to media reports "there's an electrical connection under the passenger seat that may loosen over time, according to subaru. That connection is necessary for the detection system to function. Subaru says that only cars equipped with heated front seats are subject to this recall, as those are the only ones equipped with the specific harness where this would be possible."the recall in question applies to 2015 subaru foresters. However,my 2014 forester ia a mid year model that hasfront passenger side air bags and seat heaters.the recall should be extendeded to the 2014 model.

When turning on the car or while driving, a notification appears on the display indicating the passenger side airbag is off.also a light illuminates on the dashindicating the same thing.this has happened 4-5 times in the last few months.the notifications/light usually stay on for the duration of the trip.it happens both when there is someone in the passenger seat and when the seat is empty.the dealer found a stored ods sensor code but since the light wasn't on the day i brought it in they wouldn't go further with correcting the issue.2015-2018 foresters currently have a recall for this issue.i believe my 2014 forester to be affected by the same issue.

2014 subaru forester with defective passenger airbag sensor with warning sign "srs airbag system needs to be checked". The passenger airbag will show that it is "off" with a person in the passenger seat while the car is in park and in motion. Sometimes, the passenger airbag will show that it is "on" with no one or nothing in the passenger seat. This has been occurring on and off for the past month, but has been a consistent problem for the past week. I took the car to the subaru dealership and their scan tool shows a code for "occupant detection sensor matt" failure. They recommended to replace the seat bottom for $900. They reported that "a lot of foresters" have been having this issue. There is not currently a recall for this, but is clearly a huge safety concern as the airbag may not deploy with a passenger in the seat in the event of an accident. All other safety recalls are up to date with my vehicle, and have not had any accidents or issues with my car. The airbag light concern just randomly began recently.

Air bag sensor for the passenger seat does not alway recognize when there is a passenger in the seat, or gives a warning that it does recognize, but is not active. This has been ongoing for two years. I think subaru should warranty their airbag systems much longer than 3 years, 36k miles

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving various speeds, the dual camera system in the vehicle malfunctioned over time. The contact's visibility was affected by the fog build up on the dual camera system feature of the vehicle. The two front cameras attached to the headliner of the vehicle were the affected. Randy marion subaru of mooresville, north carolina was made aware of the issue and stated that there was no procedure or tsb available to assist in cleaning the cameras. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000. Updated 09/19/17*lj

The eyesight, adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking systems do not recognize stopped vehicles - hard braking is required to stop vehicle in time. When systems do function they do not gradually slow vehicle and come to a stop, but do so suddenly and dangerously, causing me to brake hard to come to a stop at a safe distance behind stopped vehicle. Same systems are also dangerously affected by bright sunlight and fail to function without warning. Dealer said they checked systems out and found nothing wrong. Gave me print-out from operating manual stating it is the responsibility of the driver to operate the vehicle safely at all times and that the eyesight system is never a substitute for active driver involvement and may not operate optimally under all driving conditions!!!!!!! subaru corporate customer relations representative said there was no software upgrade/fix available for the forester model. Certain subaru 2015 models are advertised to have an upgraded eyesight system that recognizes lighted taillights, among other improvements. I was told the 2015 system was not available for the 2014 forester. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. A response to my complaint would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed that (while in cruise control mode) the system does not account or compensate for downhill travel at all. While set to ~60mph, the vehicle accelerated in a moderate downhill incline to reach 70mph. As i began to notice and correct this technical error, i was stopped by a police officer and written a ticket for speeding 70mph in a 55mph zone.

This problem has been getting progressively worst. The car has been having troubles turning over on cold starts, and has experienced a loss of propulsion and stall going up hill including a loss of brakes since i bought ita year ago. On 9/6/2014 the car was started and was idling high (approximately 4000rpm), check engine light was on, speed control light was on, incline alert light on, sport mode light was on and check emissions system light was on. Had to move the car out of the garage and it barely made it up the incline in the underground garage as it was not responding to the accelerator, called for a tow which never arrived and tried to restart out of frustration all lights were off and car i made it to the dealer which was not far away. Have already had the dealer inspect the car once to get to the bottom of the problem and they reported their diagnostics showed nothing was wrong and that car electrical\computer problems cannot be fixed until they break completely (or someone is hurt or injured perhaps). There was one more report similar to this on carcomplaints.com that occurred at high speed. Seems to me that car is not safe at this point.

The horn would intermittently work then ceased to work at all. If you turned the steering wheel the horn would work but not work if the steering wheel was stationary. This symptom meant it was a high probability the clock spring/ roll connector was bad.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. When the contact parked the vehicle and released the brake pedal, the rear brake lights remained illuminated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Lift gate: the lift gate button on the dash when depressed does not always open the lift gate. Several parts have been replaced by the dealer, and it still fails occasionally. Using the key fob opens the the lift gate 100% of the time, but not using the button on the dash.

Upon starting the vehicle or while driving it the following warning messages appear (it has happened multiple tines over the past few months, they will go away and ten reappear days or weeks later):vehicle dynamic control system needs to be checkedabs system needs to be checkedhill start assist system needs to be checkedtook car to dealership for normal maintenance in july (bay ridge subaru) they could not find anything, messages started reappearing.issue with theses messages is car will not go into gear upon starting unless you pump breaks multiple times.

I was out of the country and didn't start my car few about ten days.when i come back the battery was dead.i had it jump started. As i was leaving the lot and going up a slight incline the car stalled while in drive - the battery was dead again.i could not move the transmission from drive to park with a dead battery.fortunately i was able to get the car restarted with another jump.in the meantime the car rolled backwards until i applied the emergency brake..so there were two issues, you cant move the transmission from drive to park if the battery is dead and the car rolls backward in drive (which i have experienced on other occasions).

January 2019. The issue started as cel came on. Rough idle, surge of power and then cam timing became issue. Was at a stop sign idling when surge occurred lurching vehicle forward. Took to dealer waited weeks for a technical representative to give advice to dealership. Took to other dealer to confirm.they replaced timing chain., cam phasers and other required. Didnt solve issue. Next step was internal oil filters that supply avsc timing. No fix. Replaced ecm as final step in subaru matrix. Ran for 3 weeks and several thousand dollars. Again cel, rough idle, cam issues. Subaru points to dealer. Dealer points to subaru.and i have a inoperable vehicle.i replaced all required parts and have ongoing issue. Soa has been involved but not resolution. It has been 8 months of disappointment. Great car but this is too much to continue to deal with. The xt has been known to have issues, recall on possible cyclinder cracking and issues relating to engine performance.

Driving 65 mph on highway. Car suddenly no longer responsive to accelerator and speed drops. Recovered in a few seconds. Dealer examined and states it was due to defective condition in brake light switch that was installed 6 months earlier due to recall. Dealer states car went into "limp" mode. Switch condition resolved without replacement according to dealer.

The ignition cyclinder will not release vehicle key. Upon turning off vehicle and attempting to remove key from ignition the key will not turn past on to the off position. It can take several tries of cycling on and off before the key can be removed. Issue is intermittent, moving shifter from park to drive and back eventually allows key to be removed.

Repeated issue with headlights failing after very shorty period of time from installation.replaced headlights 3 times in the past 11 months (have replaced at least 1 additional time since may 2017).bulbs installed correctly without making contact with any part of bulb except plastic end with bulb grease applied to rear connector.

The stop light switch failed which rendered the car inoperable due to not being able to move from park.the stability, hill decent and abs warning lights came on.

2014 subaru forester. The srs airbag light has come on. I took the vehicle to the local subaru dealership and they claim the cause is a sensor within the passenger seat being broken. This is a safety concern and should be reviewed.

I have 2014 subaru forester xt and past couple of months the key has been getting stuck in the ignition on a regular basis. I have to play around turning the car back on, putting it in drive and then back to park, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes i have to move the car in reverse or drive forward a few inches and quickly put it in park and it releases the key. It takes a while for the key to come out after trying different things and/or all of them.

When parked for a two week period, the battery goes dead.has left us stranded at a parking garage at the airport.this has happened multiple times.subaru service claims that it is "normal" for a car battery to go dead when it hasn't been run for two weeks.

At cold starting, approximately one time out of 20, the car is very difficult to start.it cranks for up to 10 seconds before starting.i don't know if it's a fuel delivery or an ignition problem.it has happened at ambient temperatures from 35 to 65 degrees.if i didn't continue cranking the engine to an extent that i think is harmful to it, it wouldn't start.i consider that a safety issue, if i needed to get the car going quickly.

This vehicle is a forester xt turbo. I was operating on cruise control at 78 mph, approximately 900 miles from home, when a sudden loss of propulsion occurred.dashboard had multiple warning lights.engine was still operating, though at very low rpm so i was able to maintain steering and braking control.after maneuvering to the side of the road, i noticed the tachometer was fluctuating between 500-800 rpm.i turned off the engine and was able to restart.the following warning lights were still illuminated:check engine, hill control, cruise control, and operating mode.operating mode was stuck in "sport" mode.i was able to drive vehicle at normal speed to nearest dealer approximately 10 miles away.the service technician stated i had an error code of p0606.this is a voltage issue on the engine control module, (ecm).the corrective action is to re-flash the ecm computer chip.this is a restricted action, requiring a field service engineer to come to the dealer to do the procedure.the technician stated they had already experienced this with a vehicle they sold but the problem with the module usually occurs on engine start.the technician cleared the error codes and i continued on my trip.upon returning to my home, i took the vehicle to my dealer to be serviced.my dealer stated they were one of the first to experience this issue.i am wondering why there has been no recall/notice to owners of this problem since it has been known for a while.it is frightening to lose power when cruising at highway speed.

Safety problems from summer 2014.the car abruptly loses power when accelerating.this is dangerous when overtaking log trucks and other slow traffic on steep two-lane highways.we have taken the vehicle to dealerships several times for repair and except for updating the engine control unit firmware; they have been unable to isolate the cause.in february 2016, subaru of america (soa) mailed us recall wqw-58r.the dealer did not respond to our recall appointment requests. We asked for soa assistance.the dealer was hostile, yet claimed to perform the recall.later, a dealer employee informed us that some employees sabotaged the vehicle with the intent of having the engine explode.another shop confirmed facts and corrected some damage.california bureau of automotive repair case (sa2016005132) cited the dealership .the sudden power loss remains and it is unsafe to operate.it has failed to start on occasion. We are afraid that the original problem or other acts by the dealership may cause us or to be injured or killed in a head-on collision when power fails. It may strand us in an isolated area during a snowstorm or in some dangerous location.we have requested that soa accept the car back as a lemon.they have refused.the instructions toservice departments includes the following:'reminder: engine assembly replacement will only be required in a very limited number of cases.'[soa instructions to dealers includes the words 'reminder' and 'very limited' in bold type]in our opinion, the 'reminder' to dealers was intended to suppress corrective action and reduce costs to subaru of america.the subaru of america wqw-58r recall does not appear on the list of safety recalls.from our experience, this is a very dangerous vehicle to operate, and we request that the nhtsa include this recall as a safety issue for this make and model.

Takata recall: the ignition switch will not release the key when i turn off the motor and push it in to release the key.this happens when i park the car, have turned off the motor and prepare to exit the vehicle.

The ignition cyclinder will not release vehicle key. Upon turning off vehicle and attempting to remove key from ignition the key will not turn past on to the off position.it can take up to 30 tries of cycling key to remove key.moving the shifter and starting the car seem to have any effect on this issue.

The horn stopped working.

Fuel gauge registers 3/4 full even when filled to capacity.i drove 50 miles on may 8, 2017 and it still registered the same when i returned.i tried adding additional gas but the gas pump shut off as it will do automatically when the tank is full.

My backup camera only works periodically. When i put the car in reverse the dashboard screen sometimes just shows a black screen with the distance lines displayed.other times it works fine. Doesnt seem to be a pattern. Many people seem to have the same problem in posted message boards and it seems like certain other subarus were recalled for this issue.

I found that the horn did not work while i was driving.later i found this to be an intermittent problem, which i looked up on line.someone described turning the wheel to the extreme right or left made the horn work again.i tested this in my car; with the steering wheel straight the horn did not work, then when turned to the extreme in either direction, or using the panic button on the key fob the horn worked.since i do not use the horn very often, i found out about this problem during a dangerous situation in which i both pressed on the brakes to avoid collision and used my horn to alert the other driver.i reproduced the problem myself, but it is possible that when i take it to the dealer it may not manifest because it is intermittent. The component has not been inspected by anyone, there were no warning lights or indicators of a potential malfunction. The problem first appeared last week.i will get the vehicle repaired and can make the component available for inspection upon request.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to flow subaru (485 silas creek pkwy, winston-salem, nc 27127), for an inoperable air condition system. It was determined that the compressor failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. The vin was unavailable.

I have a 2014 subaru forester 2.0xt touring with push start and eyesight. My car wouldn't start with the push start button and the brakes were locked.i couldn't push the brake pedal all the way down. When this first happened months ago, the dealer said it was the battery and that was replaced in november of 2016.at that time the vehicle was parked in a shopping center parking lot and i had the radio on for 30 minutes while sitting in the car. I couldn't start the car afterwards and the brakes were locked up at the time as well. I could not press the brakes all the way down. The second time it would start was last saturday, october 21, 2017 in the morning.the vehicle was parked overnight and i had trouble starting it in the morning. And the dealer could not replicate the issue. They replaced the brake light switch with no guarantees this will fix the push start issue.

When trying to close sunroof, normally the roof window would slide back and a set of pin will push the rear side of the window up to seal the gap between the window and rooftop.however the device is defective and the window will not go back to its supposed location.water may leak in to wiring and cause further damage.

Starting from a cold or warm temperature the vehicle cranks excessively and will not start until a second or third attempt. This has happened at random and about a dozen times in the past five months.

I was driving my 6 month old 2014 subaru forester at about 50 mph at night and my driver's seat began reclining. I almost lost control of the car and had an accident because the mechanism to stop it was not working. It happened three more times after that occurrence. Also, the power lift gate was inoperable. I had to crawl into the back cargo area to try to open the rear lift gate. It would not open, even from the inside. It was reinitialized several times by kingery rye subaru in rye, ny and they failed to correct the problem. Eventually they replaced the part but the operation of lift gate remains unpredictable. I need to be able to use the power lift gate at all times to put a wheelchair in the back. I was informed by subaru of america (in writing) that some of the electrical problems that are occurring are because kingery rye subaru installed an after market remote starter into my car without my knowledge or approval.i have written documentation from subaru of america stating the dealers must install subaru parts. I paid a lot of money for a subaru remote starter. Rye subaru put a cheap after market starter into my car. That is fraud. My car is starting randomly and without a key in the ignition. A co-worker came into work and told me my car was locked and running in the parking lot. Recently i closed the lift gate, using the button on the lift gate and the car started itself as i was walking away from it. The car has started on its own many times. There are multiple dangerous electrical problems that are putting myself and my family's lives at risk.the side driver's and passenger's windows fog up when the heat is turned on. The de-fogger does not remedy the problem at all. I am unable to see anything out the side windows which poses a big safety issue especially during the winter. I bought the car because it had a high safety rating. This car is not safe.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. Upon taking the vehicle to don miller subaru (west 5822 odana rd, madison, wi 53719) for an inspection, the dealer diagnosed that rodents had chewed the soy-based wiring in the electrical harness and damaged the wiring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.updated 12/13/2017 *lnconsumer stated vehicle remains @ dan miller west as of 10-30-17 being repaired. Started car all warning lights came on and started flashing oil, and, awd, emission control need to be checked, check engine light on, cruise control indicator stays on. The stop light switch failed which rendered the car inoperable due to not being able to move from park.the stability, hill decent and abs warning lights came on.

While driving my vehicle several lights came on in the instrument panel, abs, and a picture of an auto on a hill.i then pulled over and put the auto in park.it locked up in park and i couldn't get it out of park.i called the dealer, they walked me thru a series of steps to get the car out of park.not an easy task.i took the auto into the dealer and they replaced a switch stop,i knew there had been a service bulletion put out on this problem and was informed the switch had been redesigned.of course it was out of warranty and i had to pay for the switch and labor, although it was only out of warranty for a month.i feel this is dangerous!what would i have done if it had been on the interstate or i wasn't able to contact a dealer.there are many complaints on the internet with this same problem and i was told at the dealership they had replace many of these switches. There should be a safety recall on this switch.it's dangerous.when this happened i was aon a city street, pulled over and put it in park.it would not release and come out of park

My 2014 subaru accelerated as i pulled into a parking spot hitting a tree. My foot was on the brake when this happened.my air bags did not deploy .

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving, the oil low warning light illuminated. The contact discovered that the oil level in the vehicle was extremely low. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who acknowledged there was an oil consumption issue with the vehicle and offered to perform an oil consumption test. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 22,900.

The problem i am encountering has to do with the engine oil consumption. Since i have owned my 2014 subaru forester, i have had the low oil level detected for the entire time i have owned this vehicle.in early 2015 i had a oil consumption text performed by the dealer. They had me bring the car back in after 1200 miles. They said i did not meet the criteria for the oil consumption test that would have made my engine be replaced.i now have to add oil every 2,500 miles, at a cost of $9.00-10.00 a quart.they stated that it was the norm for this model car. I indicated that i have a vw passat that goes 10,000 miles between oil changes and never losses a drop.i am very dissapointed that the oil consumption test was only for 1200 miles. That did not prove that there was not a problem.why did subaru only have oit for 1200 miles. There should have been more focus on offsetting customers out of pocket expenses for the rest of the time they own there car.as i do drive a lot of miles for my business, i spend on average $140 a year just on buying oil for between oil changes. It is also inconvenient if i am traveling and i am somewhere were i can not find full synthetic oil in the proper weight which concerns me as i my family and i like to vacation in the many different camp grounds around maryland and the surrounding states.

Vehicle hesitates upon acceleration from a stop with slight shuttering. Car now has 6,600 mile and still has the problem. Dealer acknowledges the problem but claims this is the way the car was designed.

2014 subaru forester stopped running while driving down the freeway at 70 miles an hour.engine just quite running.lost power.had to pull over in median.very scary.this is second time this has happened.did not throw a code message.dealership can not detect problem.first time was 4 years ago when driving at 35 mph on city street coming into town.did not throw error message at that timewas told to drive it until it did it again.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that the oil warning indicator illuminated when the vehicle had approximately 2,000 miles left before the next oil change. The vehicle was taken to john hine temecula subaru (4050 dlr dr, temecula, ca 92591, 951-553-2000) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact took the vehicle to another dealer (dch subaru of riverside, 8069 indiana ave, riverside, ca 92504, 951-428-2314) where it was diagnosed that there was excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would pay a portion of the repair cost. The failure mileage was approximately 119,412.

Oil is constantly having to be checked because this vehicle goes through lots of oil. I've put a newer engine in the car due to the first one doing this. Also the front right cv joint is about to need replacement and is loud. Both of these issues have happened as soon as i bought the car april 2020.also, cruise control works on and off literally back windows won't come down, horn won't honk and bluetooth is horrible.

Driving on interstate 70 mph, car engine stopped running, rpm's were still up as if car on, coasted out of traffic, no check engine, no sputtering, had gas, but acted as if i had run out.turned ignition key to off and removed it, attempted to start the car several times within an hours time, it acted as if it was going to start but didn't.had it towed to mechanic, on a flat bed tow truck.it started up and all systems were checked with no evidence of failure.diagnostics were run with no active codes, electrical was checked, no evidence of failure.this could have been a huge safety event, if i had not been in an outside lane and was able to get out of traffic.i have had three mechanics look at it and no issue found, but in fear of driving on highway.guesses have been fuel pump faulty?cam shaft sensor faulty?electrical?

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously included in an unknown recall for detonation of the engine. The dealer (randy marion subaru, 301 w plaza dr, mooresville, nc 28117) reprogrammed the engine control module. A year later, the spark plugs were replaced and the contact noticed that they were burned. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Attempted to startthecar on a cold morning. Battery had good charge, but car would not immediately start as normal.after several attempts i placed a battery booster inline with the battery, again after several more attempts nothing but a few spurts.. This happened over a 20 minute period. At no point was there not enough cranking voltage or amperage.weather conditions were cold -10, but mind you no colder then the 2013 winter in which many many mornings and days when the polar vortex was upon us did the car ever fail to start. This is a 2014 turbo xt model, in general turbos are hard starters, as i recently owned a 2009 acura rdx turbo, but again never had starting issues with that car. I spoke to my dealer , but he offered little help, also called and contacted subaru of america, who tried to write of off as a bad battery, but as i mentioned plenty of crank, to dtc's error, nothing , just hardto start.. This car has a proven history of starting in colder weather.the car has experienced rough idles on an off, but i believe there is a tsb for this.what is important to note is the car under the conditions should have started first few cranks, not over a dozen attempts in a 20 minute period.

Oil light (yellow) came on to signify oil level is low.this is an ongoing problem and requires approximately one quart of oil every 1200-1500 miles driven.subaru was notified from the beginning and has made many excuses over the past 18-months.i have now been asked to leave the car with the dealership for at least a week, for them to be able to further investigate.

My 2014 subaru forester burns an excessive amount of oil. For a new engine, i shouldn't have to worry about checking the oil every few days to make sure it isn't a 1/2 quart or more low. I'm extremely worried that the oil is going to get too low between checks, and the engine will seize on lake tahoe's icy winter mountain roads just at the wrong time.

During an oil change this week. I was told that i was down 1.5 quarts. I called the dealer and requested an oil consumption test. They denied my appointment and told me thatthis"was the new normal". I do not accept that my 2014 subaru should be using this much oil. I checked the class action subaru oil consumption lawsuit, but my vin number is not included in the action. I believe there is still a problem and this needs to be further addressed.

I got my regular oil change. One month later my indicator came in reading 'system detects low oil'. Took it back to the shop where i got my oil changed, they told me it was bone dry and that my car is burning oil. They said that i'm not the only subaru owner who has that problem. They just top their oil off every month. I cannot afford this. Found out it's a defective piston ring that subaru knew they were selling. I was driving for 6 hours on the highway with this indicator. The car could have exploded. But i assumed it was just reacting to my long drive. I honestly could have been extremely hurt or killed. I don't know if i should sell the car or pay to take the entire engine apart.

First notice this a couple of years ago but is happening more frequently now. Started when you would have a low speed hard left turn such asin a parking lot a/c would stop working, power steering would shut down and then everything would come back to normal. More recently it's been happening while driving down the road. It feels as though the engine quits and usually after a few seconds everything comes back on. The other day i had 4 or 5 occurrences with in 7 miles, the last time was turning onto the street i live on and it was mid left turn almost ran into the street sign pole when the power steering failed. I stop by a suburu dealer and the service writer acted as though he had never heard of it. It is all over the internet. This is not safe and i have had to many issues with my suburu.

Car engine consumes unreasonable amounts of oil during use requiring constant monitoring to avoid engine failure.car burns through one quart of oil per 2000 miles.i have tried to work with the dealer and company to resolve the issue.i was told by them that it is "normal" for the car to burn up to one quart per 1200 miles.to put this in perspective, the car holds seven quarts of oil and the manufacturer's maintenance scheduled specifies changing the oil every 7500 miles.this means the car would have to burn six and a half out of seven quarts of oil between scheduled services to meet criteria.

My 2014 forester has a problem with the rpms of the engine. In cold weather & after the engine warms up (dash blue light turns off) & while city driving, the engine rpm goes up 300 to 400 rpms when the climate control (heater) is turned on. Then if i stop for a traffic light or a stop sign or adjust the heater fan speed, the engine rpms will go up another 500 to 600 rpms with the cv transmission going into a lower range (transmission whines quite loud at this time).i am now driving with the engine rpm at 1000+ over normal rpms (normal rpms is considered the rpm with the climate control off). This condition will continue for close about 20 minutes of continued driving and then stop. If i turn off the heater while driving the rpms revert to normal. If i again turn on the heater, the rpms again willgo up 300 to 400 rpms and not go up the additional 500 to 600 rpms until i would stop again. The 1000 rpm plus condition appears to be dangerous on slippery roads.

I was on an on ramp onto the highway when the computer in the center of the dash started alerting that several systems needed check.all the dashboard indicators went off and the vehicle lost power even when i pressed the gas pedal.after turning the car off and then back on again it was idling hard and it several warning lights remained on.the car was towed under warranty to the nearest dealership.upon investigation the dealer said there was a bad coil.after replacing the coil the vehicle still didn't work.now they claimed there was a bad fuel injector.after replacing that the car continued not to work.the problem they kept seeing was a misfire in cylinder 4.they changed o-rings, they cleaned the engine, they even ordered a new engine and replaced the engine and it still suffers from the misfire.the car has now been in the shop for 34 days and they have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it.

In october of 2013, i purchased by way of lease, a brand new 2014 subaru forester.right after purchasing a 2014 subaru forester i began to have issues with the oil consumption in my vehicle.in example, before my first oil change of 3,000 miles, i had to have my car assessed by the oil technicians as the oil light kept coming on.the oil technicians would ?top? off my fluids and along i went.sadly, after having my 3,000 mile oil change, i continued to have issues with oil consumption.i think i paid a visit to the oil technicians at least once every 6 weeks or so; so much so that the oil technicians were tired of seeing my vehicle.i practically developed a personal relationship with the oil technicians.if they did not know me by name, they were at least familiar with my vehicle.to make a long story longer, this month (september) or better stated less than a year of having a 2014 in my possession, while still being in the year 2014 with 3 months left to go in this year, i had some major work done to my vehicle.up to and including a replacement of the engine.please see the attached invoice to see all the items that were replaced.now you are problem asking well how many miles are on the car?there are only 7,600 miles on the vehicle.in other words i put maybe 760 miles on my vehicle per month in less than a year.opportunity:clearly, i was sold a high priced lemon; a dud.in order to improve on customer satisfaction, it is in my opinion that subaru should provide me with a 2014 subaru forester that is not defective or one that does not have design flaws.no vehicle with less than 8,000 miles and less than a year old should require an engine replacement.please be advised that after the work was done now the car has a vibration and feels as if it is going to shut off.

Starting from a cold or warm temperature the vehicle cranks excessively and will not start until a second or third attempt. This has happened at random and about a dozen times in the past five months.

I started the vehicle, put it in reverse and nothing!! it didnt move. Stepped on the gas, nothing!tried this 4 times.after about one hour it started and went in gear.took it to the dealer, they tested it , said nothing wrong.second time, which was later that night, i had the car out. Started up, put it in reverse, nothing happened.car was on a slight incline, car then rolled forward and almost hit a car in front of us.tried 3 times before the car would back upthird time, which occured on december 31st, 2013. I was driving to work. Stopped at red light.light turned, istepped on the gas and the car didnt move,it then jumped into the intersection of a major highway!lucky i wasnt hit from behindor head on! i could not get the car to go.called the dealership.after about 5 minutes i was able to get the car going.the car is at the dealership now and i have a loaner car. They called and said again that they could not find anything wrong!!! i could have been killed!!! i do not want this car back until it is fixed or i get a new one to replace it.i am not very happy with the new 2014 forester!

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed excessive amounts of oil with the check oil warning light illuminated on the instrument panel while traveling at various speeds. The contact took the vehicle back to the independent mechanic where she purchased the vehicle and had two o-rings and crank seal replaced under warranty. Despite the repairs, the failure persisted and the check oil light would continue to illuminate after every 1,500 miles. The contact took the vehicle to center subaru (45 winsted rd, torrington, ct 06790) to have the vehicle serviced under nhtsa recall number: 19v149000 (exterior lighting). The contact was informed that the dealer could not assist with the excessive oil failure due to the vehicle no longer being under warranty and no other recalls being placed on the vehicle. The manufacturer had been notified and gave her the same information as the dealer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 121,286.

I purchased a brand new 2014 forester in 2013. It now has 20,000 miles on it. It has excessive oil consumption. I need to add a quart to a quart and a half about every month. The dealership says that it is 'normal' for the car to use a quart of oil every 1200 miles. Subaru recommends changing the oil every 7500 miles.that means that i am adding over 6 quarts of oil between every recommended oil change. That is ridiculous. The oil is synthetic and very expensive. After having the low oil light come on several times when i was alone at night on the interstate, now i carry several quarts of oil with me at all times. This is a very expensive vehicle and it is ridiculous that subaru knows of the problem and will not address it. Excessive oil consumption is a problem with a number of subaru models over a number of years. Hopefully nhtsa or epa (whom i also notified) willhelp persuade subaru to address the problem and recall their defective cars and fix them.

At 106,000 miles the check oil level light illuminated on 3/22/2017.at that time after checking i added 1 at of oil.i reported this to the dealer after reading online that there were multiple reports of my vehicle model having oil consumption problems.an oil consumption test was subsequently performed which was negative.it was suggested to me by the dealer that i could contact subaru directly if i still had concerns which i did.i was told that it was not unusual for cars to use extra oil and there was nothing to be done about it.since then the check oil light has regularly illuminated prior to my next oil change and has required the addition of 1 qt of oil at decreasing mileage intervals.i am now down to seeing the check oil illuminate and adding oil at 3000 miles.i have followed the subaru recommendations for service.i have owned cars made by toyota, nissan, honda, ford, jeep, chevrolet, volkswagon, mazda and subaru over the last 45 years and have never had a car require oil additions.i have a friend with a 2013 subaru forester that was told at her last service that there was no oil registering on the dipstick.that year model has no check oil warning light when 1 qt down.for my year model the vehicle was redesigned and a check oil light was added which may suggest there was a problem developing.

The car completely looses power and stutters. The engine does not shut off, but there is no power going to the wheels. At this point this has happened dozens of time. It began around 20-30,000 miles, and continues into 90,000+ miles. It can happen going 20-40 miles per hour or 55 or 70. It's under load usually, and happens more when it is hot outside. Sometimes it happens once, then i don't have it for months, and other times it has happened repeatedly for mile after mile of driving. I have to let my foot off the gas and re-apply multiple times to keep the car moving. It's happened in neighborhoods, driving on the freeway, and trying to pass on the highway. I have taken it to my dealership numerous times and they refuse to keep it long enough and test it enough to replicate the problem. It is still under the extra warranty i paid for it and subaru refuses to help as well.

I reported this incident on august 19, 2018 -complaint number 1120961.i had suv towed the following day to dealer where i purchased it brand-new.the dealer service dept is trying to tell me there is nothing wrong with the suv, but that is impossible.the dealer has arranged for subaru of america from nj to contact me, but i need your help to get this resolved.the problem is intermittent and they say they have not been able to replicate it.when the incident occurred in my daughter's driveway when i placed it in reverse and it acclerated at such a high rate in reverse with brake depressed and i could not stop it when my foot was depressing the brake, i had myaccident running intothe back of my daughter's suv in which was parked in her driveway - causing over $2,000 damage to her suv - my suv was damaged in the rear bumper but dealer has not told me the estimate of damage.subaru is having accident rep contact me within next 48 hours.this suv is so dangerous that i could be killed and so could others in my car or other vehicle passengers.please please take this complaint seriously because it is a very serious safety issue.please refer to my initial complaint..thank you

I was at a stop light and my engine turned off. Later in the day when i was driving on the freeway going uphill, my car lunged forward as i was driving. The next day when i started my car, all my warning sensor lights went on. I took my car to the dealership and they said i need a new transmission. After doing some research, it seems that this is a common issue with my transmission that people have experienced. Subaru extended the warranty from 60,000 miles to 100,000 knowing that this is a common issue. Unfortunately, my car is at 107,000 miles and subaru won't cover it. Instead of extending the warranty, there should have been a recall on this transmission because the transmission issue is a safety hazard. I was fortunate enough not to get into an accident, but other people might not have the same luck. Please look into this issue and have subaru recall these transmissions. Thank you.

On cold start the vehicle will rollover and over and not start.it happens in all temperatures.it does seem to start on subsequent attempts.this is a new car.it should start!

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled multiple times and the brakes failed upon making a complete stop. The contact had to apply excessive pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but the failures could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

Excessive oil consumption.down 2 quarts of oil before oil change is due.

I bought my brand new subaru forester 2014 in august, 2013. Aftermy first oil change i noticed the engine was overfilled with1 - 2 quart oil. I spoke with the service agent at the same dealership and he was trying to convince me that was the appropriate amount. On my second oil change i clearly asked them if there is any oil consumption problem with my engine and if this is the reason for overfill . The answer was no problem with oil consumption. I made a complain for this oil consumption to subaru usa. Their answer was that this is a normal oil consumption. On my third oil change i couldn't make even 3000mi.without adding extra quarter +the extra one i had from the dealer. To be fare i don't see any smoke from the exhaust, but i'm sure that's going to cost me emission problems in the future.according to the 2014 subaru forester manual -1 quart for 1200 miles is considered normal oil consumption..today the vehicle is over 12 000mi. And i'm constantly adding oil and paying out of my pocket and wondering how this is going to end.after short research i realized i'm not alone.if i knew for this problem earlier i'd never buy this expensive subaru forester.

Vehicle is unstable due to stalling and lurching forward under all throttle ranges.vehicle may "chug" at variable driving speeds.the failure is intermittent and varies from subtle to heavy effects.severe effects causes vehicle to shudder and/or stall then abruptly accelerate. Issue does not appear to be related to "turbo lag" as it occurs under low boost conditions.transmission also produces "clicking" sound when engaging from neutral or under changes in speed.condition occurs throughout all driving modes (i, s, s#).condition occurs mostly under acceleration from dead stop, but may also occur under "pick up" acceleration, ie off throttle to decelerate (55mph-45mph) then light throttle to resume driving speed.vehicle may also backfire under acceleration.vehicle may hesitate for several seconds before acceleration from stop or at highway speed than upon resuming acceleration vehicle may have a flat/slow acceleration in spite of heavy throttle.factory authorized repairs attempted to remedy condition by cleaning throttle body and "upper engine" cleanse and states unable to replicate failure.condition has been on-going from purchase with approximately 30k mile to current with 74k miles.

My 2014 subaru forester's engine at times acts as if it is going to stall.it acts as though it is getting no fuel.i have had the fuel filter/fuel pump assembly replaced and it seemed to run ok for a short time.the stalling action does not always happen.sometimes it runs smoothly.then it starts the sputtering/stall action again.the mechanic who replaced them in an effort to correct the problem is not able to tell me what else could be causing it.my vehicle gets 93 octane gas and only has 32,000 miles on it.please help.

I have had ignition problems turning off the engine after stopping also i have to keep puttinga quart of oil in when the oil light comes on while driving

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode and failed to accelerate while the accelerator pedal was being depressed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer nor an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,574.

I also have oil consumption problem with my 2014 subaru forester, purchased at early 2014.though, my forester's oil consumption rate is about 1-1/2 quart per 5000 miles.i visited this site because i received a settlement notice in the mail, per district court of new jersey.i was hoping there are some official post to go along with the settlement notice for getting a no-charge fix from the dealer, if there is one.i suppose the notice itself will have to do.a official posting appearing soon on this site would be nice.here is the url for those that did not get the notice: http://www.oilconsumption.settlementclass.com/

Subaru engines are using excessive amounts of oil even when new, up to 1 quart per 1500 miles. A 2014 lawsuit required them to fix this problem, which they are only barely doing. Hundreds of others with this problem are being required to simply add more oil at $9 - $12/quart 3-4 times each oil change. As the car ages, the consumption causes the car engine to seize when at highway speeds, creating the potential of serious accidents. Again, subaru has officially acted to not address this issue in their tsb 02-157-14r, titled surface treatment change to oil control piston rings. Prior to this, dealerships were instructed to change out the piston rings. This tsb states: "concerns related to a possible oil consumption condition are generally initiated when the customer believes the engine oil level on the dipstick has dropped since thelast time it was checked or when the low oil lamp illuminates. These types of complaints by themselves do not directly indicate a concern with the vehicle exists."

While driving on the freeway under excellent conditions, the engine 'revved' and then stalled. I was able to pull off onto the shoulder and put the car in "park" and turn off the engine. Before i did so, the insrument panel indicators were (almost?) all lit. I tried to restart = unsuccessful. After waiting about 5 minutes, i tried again and was able to proceed normally. This is the second time this has occured; previous episode about three months ago (unreported) under similar conditions. The only "common" element i can surmise is that the gas level was < 1/4 tank in both instances. I was not concerned about the gas as the gauge and "miles to empty" were more than sufficient to get me home. I did refuel within ten miles of the temporary breakdown and was able to drive without further incident.

Started car all warning lights came on and started flashing oil, and, awd, emission control need to be checked, check engine light on, cruise control indicator stays on. Had been driving on a hot day stopped to get gas when i started the car all the check engine light came i checked gas cap it was tight, i started driving and all the lights started flashing

While driving vehicle on highway speeds in temperatures around 85-90 (or greater) degrees vehicle will not allow acceleration.vehicle stumbles, detonates and will not allow the driver to apply power without hesitation and engine stumbles.this problem can be recreated at will and yet the vehicle will not throw a cel unless a larger failure happens, which typically is the #3 cylinder burns off the spark plug electrode and damages the engine.subaru is aware of the issue but considers this condition normal.the vehicle is not appropriately mapped for the subaru suggested fuel octane level, has turbo boost piping leaks according to numerous individuals.

Excessive oil consumption. I bought this 2014 subaru forester sometime in august 2013. This was the very first vehicle i ever bought, not knowing any facts about lemon laws.i was driving back from south dakota sometime in july 2014 on a sunday night when the low oil lamp turned on. I was on the freeway in the middle of nowhere, so i had to drive maybe 3-4 hrs more to find an open mechanic. Mechanic came back to me and said that when he dipped the stick, the oil barely registered. I had about 8,000 miles at this point. I should've filed a lemon law complaint at this point. But i was too young and naive.i went to the dealership and we did an oil consumption test, maybe 3-5 more times. Sometimes the lamp wouldn't light up, sometimes it lights up at around 1500 miles or past it. Around dec 2015, subaru finally decided to change my short block. I never had a chance to fully drive my vehicle as i got stationed overseas in march 2016.i came back from overseas in april 2017. Issue persisted again in march 2018. Did about 2-3 oil consumption test until the new subaru dealership i went to got an approval to change the short block for the second time.now, a month later after short block overhaul #2, the low oil lamp turned on again. I've pretty much gotten to know the service reps at my local subaru shops.subaru has no response to this issue. Except to top my oil off. Waste my time everytime i go past 1000+ miles and give me anxiety. I've emailed subaru of america about the issue as well. All i have is a complaint ticket from them with no real solution.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving various speeds, the oil light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (al serra auto plaza in grand blanc, michigan) and the oil was changed at 50,557 miles. The dealer had the contact return at 52,062 miles to check the oil consumption. The contact was informed that the engine was not burning enough oil for it to be a failure and the vehicle passed the oil consumption test. The vehicle was below .2 quarts of oil and the oil light illuminated again at approximately 55,000 miles. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 50,557...updated 08/23/17

After i purchased my vehicle, i noticed a hesitation between 20 - 40 mph.this is the first year for the forester's to have a cvt engine so i thought it needed broken in.i also went through 3 cycles of filling up my gas tank from 3 different gas stations and the hesitation continued.the first time i brought it in the technician said he overfilled the oil a slight bit, removed it, and i should notice a difference.no difference.i brought my vehicle back to the dealership addressing the same issue.they performed the tests subaru of america (soa) suggested and nothing was found.the last time it happened, > month ago, i feared an accident because it hesitated through an intersection.i returned the vehicle wanting answers.subaru sent out their own technician to gather information to send to fuji and what i was told was that their equipment did not find anything wrong and that it was normal for a cvt engine.i test drove several more foresters and they all had varying degrees of hesitation and all had different mileage on them.

My 2014 forester has stalled on me 5 times in the past 3 years while traveling between san antonio and el paso tx.while traveling at highway speeds (80mph on this part of i-10) with and without cruise control, the engine suddenly would make a hard downshift, then another, and allowed me about 10 seconds to pull over to right shoulder, then stalled. During the downshift no warning lights came on until i was completely stalled and then they all turned on. One time it gave me a warning light that my transmission oil was hot, after it stalled.i have traveled to other places in texas with same variables other than the inclines/ declines of that part of i-10. This vehicle cannot handle inclines at highway speeds after driving an hour or two. I have been lucky that the 5 times my forester stalled i was not surrounded by heavy traffic.this is a very bad situation and very dangerous!! a couple of years ago i notified my subaru dealer when they did an oil consumption test (because i have to add a quart between each oil change) and they did nothing. The manager speculated some work they could do at my cost but had no answers or suggestions. I have also had to replace the ball bearings in the rear right wheel.these things should not happen to a new car with high ratings.my 86 honda civic could go between el paso and san antonio with no problems.

I have had ongoing issues with the oil consumption on this vehicle.i have had a couple of oil consumption tests run on this car and they claim that it passes,(even though i can barely make it 4k without having to add more oil to the car)today the car is back at service to fix the front engine cover seal.one has to wonder if this was the oil issue all along, however it will cost me almost a grand just to get this repair done.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the warning lights illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer for inspection but had not been repaired or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 47.

While parking this vehicle on the street, in front of our apt., smoke came from under the hood, once parked and hood opened, engine caught on fire, fire dept. Was called. The car is totaled.(i do not want to upload pictures, due to identifiable info. In the pictures.)

I have an ongoing issue with my 2014 subaru forester that was manufactured in 2013, in which the check oil light routinely goes on approximately half-way through a 6k oil change.there was a class action lawsuit against subaru that stipulated an oil consumption test could be initiated following an oil change.the oil levels are checked at 1,200 miles after the oil change and if the levels are low the vehicle will fail the test and qualify for a new engine at no cost. I've had 2 oil consumption tests completed on my car, with the first one done 1 year ago.my vehicle passed both tests at 1,200 miles, but routinely is low on oil well before my next scheduled oil change.i have filed 2 complaints with subaru of america with no success.i last had my oil changed at 71,308 miles, and brought it back for the test 1,200 miles later.i am now 3k into the same oil change and my check oil light went on yesterday and today.i brought it to the dealer to check the level and it was 3/4 of a quart low, which subaru of america says is normal oil consumption at 3k into an oil change and they will not replace the engine. This is not an issue for subaru foresters manufactured in 2014, as subaru of america changed the pistons in the engine to address the issue.i am very stuck; the dealer won't help me, subaru of america won't help me, and the car is worthless given the service records indicating that it uses excess oil.i work full-time.i am also the main transportation for my 2 young children.i drive with extra quarts of oil in my car and have to add oil approximately 3-4.5k into a 6k oil change when the light comes on.i have spent a lot of time and energy on this issue with no success and i just don't know what to do anymore.i am hoping you can help.i can provide you with all emails to subaru of america and maintenance records for the car.updated 11/07/2017

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving 70 mph, the engine revved and stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (williams volkswagen inc., 2845 east saginaw st, lansing, mi 48912), but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that they would look into the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.

Vehicle unexpectedlyaccelerated upon stepping on the brake pedal after stopping for a red light.

Air conditioning works once turn on car then after driving for 1st five to ten minutes, air conditioning stop working, this issue started happening in 2018.

While driving our 2014 forester xt 2.0 uphill on the highway at about 50 mph, the cel, hill-assist, eyesight-disabled and another warning light all came on. I pulled off the road, stopped and called the dealer, who said the car could be safely driven in for inspection as the cel was not blinking. Apparently the cel light sets off a bunch more to get your attention. The obd codes the dealer pulled said the catalytic converter had failed (no further explanation was offered). They said a new one would be ordered and installed under warranty. So the dealer put in the new catalytic converter yesterday, and now the engine performs extremely poorly compared to before service. The electronic turbo boost gauge now shows negative boost (i.e., no activation) until over 20% throttle position in i mode (before, turbo boost was obtainable at 8% throttle). There is a humming sound (rather like the alternator belt noise ford vans make) that drowns out the engine purr when gently revving the engine in park and, when driving, the cvt shifts very irregularly and at much higher rpms in i mode (e.g., staying in one gear until tach hits 2000 before shifting where before the tach never went above 1500 at any speed unless we were in s/i or s# mode and shifting manually with the paddles).i have notified subaru of america of the situation and this car is going back to the shop first thing monday morning.

The adaptive cruise has not recognized stopped vehicles, and did not slow the vehicle down thus potentially contributing to a crash and injury. The car has been evaluated multiple times for this by the dealer and has not found a problem. The dysfunction continues; there were 4 incidents today where there was failure of the adaptive cruise control system to initiate any safety maneuvers to avoid a crash.

When someone departs road on an exit and they are decelerating even if they are clear and out of the lane the car will practically stop on the highway, slamming on the brakes hard. Even under normal use of the cruise control the eyesight system does not engage the brakes slowly in a progressive pattern it hits them abruptly.i am in a congested area and have often had to override the system by hitting the brakes manually to disengage the system or floor the gas to prevent someone from rear ending me on the highway. I brought it to the dealers attention they say it is operating as it should and have brought it to subaru corporate customer service attention on at least 3 occasions asking for a software update and have had no response. I believe the system is good but needs refinement of its software before someone gets hurt or killed.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v149000(exterior lighting). The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Byers subaru alexandria (2301, 7416 richmond hwy, alexandria, va 22306, (703) 768-5800) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The low beam head lights are very poor, they only project 100 ft . Because of this we hit a deer which caused $4000 damage. Plase tell me you are looking into this problem. The dealership refuses to correct this problem

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v149000(exterior lighting). The contact called an unknown dealer and was informed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

My high beam/daytime running bulb blew on the passenger side. When replacing the bulb i found it had actually melted, and had a large bubble in the glass.approximately a year previous the drivers side bulb had blown and i had found the same bubble, but didn't report it at that time, assuming it was just something weird that happened once. Now that it's happened twice, once on each side, i'm more concerned there's a larger issue with the electrical components for the blurb to get so hot that it actually melted the glass.

Low beam headlamp has been replaced twice in 12 months.there have been warranty extensions on older subaru's for this problem but it has not been addressed for newer models

Repeated issue with headlights failing after very shorty period of time from installation.replaced headlights 3 times in the past 11 months (have replaced at least 1 additional time since may 2017).bulbs installed correctly without making contact with any part of bulb except plastic end with bulb grease applied to rear connector.

I have my back light on by itself without hit breaks and back door poton does not work and i have light on my board always light up

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While depressing the brake pedal, it would not activate and caused the brake lights to fail. The contact also stated that the vehicle exhibited issues starting due to the brake switch activation failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the switch that activated the brake lights failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v366000 (exterior lighting, forward collision avoidance). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 19v149000 (exterior lighting) regarding a brake lamp switch replacement. After the recall was serviced, while driving 75 mph, the hill assist warning indicator flashed and the vehicle drastically slowed down. The contact attempted to drive the vehicle to subaru of georgetown (7501 i-35 frontage rd, georgetown, tx 78626, 512 930-2111) with much difficulty and the abs warning indicator illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the recall repair was faulty. The dealer adjusted the brake light switch to the correct specifications and repaired the vehicle. The recall repair was performed by cleo bay subaru (2125 e stan schlueter loop, killeen, tx 76542, (254) 634-3175). The manufacturer was notified of the initial recall, but not of the defective recall repair. The failure mileage was 76,032.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. When driving at 90 mph during windy weather conditions, it was difficult to control the vehicle. In addition, the 'check fuel' light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the mike shaw subaru dealer, located at 1650 w 104th ave, denver, co 80234 where the failure could not be duplicated. The failure could not be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not provided. The vin was not available.

I was turning right to park at a state park. The parking area is sandy and full of pot holes. I was almost stopped when the car accelerated violently. My car mounted a flat boulder, one of many in the parking area. I still don't feel like i could have stepped or stomped on the gas pedal vs the brake pedal, but it is a possibility. I am a very cautious driver.could this be a defect in this car? i feel that it should be reported and noted in case others have the same experience.

Vehicle hesitates upon acceleration from a stop with slight shuttering. Car now has 6,600 mile and still has the problem. Dealer acknowledges the problem but claims this is the way the car was designed.

At/about 1230 central time on 31 oct 2019, my wife [xxx] experienced an uncommanded acceleration event in our 2014 subaru forester and narrowly escaped being killed.context:my wife was taking the car through an automated carwash at the caseys gas station at 9911 s. 71st st in papillion ne. When she reached the end of the conveyor belt and when signalled by the attendant to move forward, she stepped on the brake and attempted to move the automatic transmission from n (neutral) to d (drive). She encountered resistance moving the gear lever but was able to move it to d. Upon doing so, the car abruptly accelerated and lurched forward despite her foot remaining on the brake. The car rapidly accelerated and tore through the closed garage door at the end of the carwash and continued outside, across an access road and up a small hill, before losing power and rolling backwards down the hill to stop in the access road. No other vehicles or persons were involved or injured. My wife was uninjured other than being sprayed by glass fragments from the windshield as it was punctured by the garage door as the car tore through it. Our insurance company (usaa) declared the car a total loss.neither my wife nor i had ever experienced anything like this incident before; we both have excellent driving records. Weather at the time of this incident was clear, dry and sunny. The car to the best of our knowledge was in excellent mechanical condition. The papillion ne police dept responded and filed a report, and we filed a drivers motor vehicle accident report. Both are on file with the papillion ne police dept. There were also several witnesses to this incident per the police report.*lninformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving 78 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. The fuel indicator displayed that the fuel was low. The contact called the police and was escorted to get some fuel. The contact added fuel to the vehicle, restarted the engine, and drove 400 miles without further incident. The vehicle was taken to subaru of daytona (650 n nova rd, daytona beach, fl 32114, (386) 255-2252) where they diagnosed that the vehicle was overheating and replaced the fuel pump. The dealer informed the contact not to drive the vehicle with less than a third of a tank of fuel since that caused the fuel pump to overheat. The fuel reader later displayed unusual readings and started illuminating constantly. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the contact believed nothing was done during the week it was in their possession. The manufacturer was contacted and provided investigation number: 1-38017139050. The manufacturer stated that they would call the contact back, but had not in four weeks. The failure mileage was 17,000.

Sudden unintended acceleration.the vehicle rapidly accelerated as though the accelerator pedal had been floored. This occurred immediately after i shifted from reverse to drive to leave my driveway without my the accelerator.the vehicle wouldn't respond to braking.i had to immediately turn the wheel to avoid going into the culvert directly across from my driveway.the road then is an immediate right-hand turn but the car was already going too fast for me to successfully stay on the road.the car went into the culvert across that road, deploying all the airbags, and essentially demolishing the car (>$20k to repair).my wife and i were taken to the hospital via ambulance for various tests and ct scans; fortunately, not too much damage beyond what the seat belts and airbags did to us....updated 09/22/15

Letter from congresswoman kathleen m. Rice on behalf of constituent re recall on eyesight driver assist system on a 2014 subaru forester.the consumer stated when the system detected a car slowing down in front of him to get onto an exit ramp, it slows down his vehicle to a dangerously slow speed. The consumer had to slam on the accelerator pedal in order to avoid being rear-ended.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the hood inadvertently unlatched and opened without warning. The vehicle was taken to new motors subaru (8670 peach st, erie, pa 16509) to be diagnosed. The mechanic had not found any part that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and promised to provide a callback which was still pending. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

While travelling at 50 miles per hour in heavy traffic, my car just stopped on the highway.it was during rush hour and it wouldn't move as i pressed the gas pedal. After about one minute the car started to move. Today, the 21st, my wife experienced the same issue while being on a highway. The car won't roll, it just stops dead. You don't have to start again, it will start itself.

I had just gassed up at bj's in farmingdale and was pulling into a parking spot adjacent to and facing the pump area i had just left. Separating my parking space and the pump i just left was a curb and a short uphill embankment of about 45 degrees , and 20 feet to the roadwaway in front of the pump i had just left. As i "stopped" the car, it instead lurched forward , up and over the embankment, ripping out the undercarriage protective shield. This was all a distance of about 30 feet. With my braking it, the car stopped and i was able to drive to a safe area and inspect the damage. There was no leakage, but scraping on the underside of the front bumper, and i then realized the protective plastic shroud had remained at the embankment scene, so i retrieved it.the speed i noted is a guess, but the car had to climb a height of perhaps 8 feet in a 20 foot distance!very fortunately, there were no injuries, but, my "landing spot" was 20 feet in front of the car gassing up in the spot i had just left, adjacent to 6 double rows of gas pumps! had i selected1 or 2 parking spots adjacent, my car would have crashed into them all! i have brought the car to hicksville ny suburu this am and they found no problem with the car, other than to reattach the shroud. I and they have no explanation, other than possibly the driver floor mat, which had a recall but appears to be in its proper place, and i have pictures of same which i took upon retiring home after the incident.

The steering wheel "leather" coating has been disintegrating for over a year now. The subaru service said it is a common issue with 2014 subaru forest. & should be recalled. Eventually, the undercoat foam material will also disintegrate, he said. Also, both front lower control arms, bushings, band drive, (something like a drive shaft), strut & axel joint had to be replaced at only 69k miles. My car has never been in any accident or hit anything. Subaru paid for failed control arm replacement. This is an extremely unsafe car!

Subaru automatic transmission--- when backing up on a hill and shifting from reverse to drive the transmission does not lock up. The car continues to roll backward and can only be stopped by using the brakes . It acts like a standard shift transmission. This does not seem normal.

Failure of the continuous variable transmission (cvt) is a known and dangerous defect for certain models of subarus. Subaru of america issued an extended warranty in 2018 which partially addressed cvt problems, but fell short of a recall, which is what customers deserve and are owed. Additionally, this extended warranty only recognized problems with specific cvt components, but omitted other cvt components that are known to fail. In december 2020, the cvt on my 2014 subaru forester failed in motion and the vehicle became undrivable. The dealership (casey subaru of newport news va) made the necessary repairs, which subaru deemed not covered by warranty, at the cost of $1931.36. The receipt is attached. Subaru of america has demonstrated negligence on this defect, and disregard for its customer's safety and satisfaction. I am asking nhtsa to address this problem on behalf of all affected subaru owners by issuing an immediate recall.

Cvt 2.5i 70k mileage. On 8/12/17, while driving on interstate highway nonstop for 310 miles, with cruise on 76 mph, transmission suddenly and without warning went "out of gear." engine rpms raced to over 5,000 but car was out of gear. No propulsion whatsoever.it felt exactly like when a manual transmission pops out of gear or is shifted into neutral by accident ay speed, but this is an automatic transmission. Shift lever had not been touched. Transmission just felt like it "gave way."i shifted into neutral and coasted to the shoulder and engine died."check engine," "vehicle dynamics control," and battery charge warning" lights lit ... Maybe others. Engine died. Put in park.waited a couple of minutes and then restarted engine.it ran rough for a few seconds then smoothed out and we drove 2 miles to fill up gas and proceeded another 100 miles or so without difficulty. 2 dealers never responded to my inquiry. Drove around town for a few days without incident. Then, on 8/20/17 while again driving non-stop for over 300 miles and again with cruise control set on 74, the exact same thing happened again. No warning. Suddenly "out of gear." engine revs spiked. Warning lights came on. Coasted to shoulder. Shut down engine for maybe 20 seconds then restarted engine and proceeded on without incident to refuel and resume trip.was almost rear-ended by a tailgater this time since he was driving so close to me when i suddenly lost propulsion. Bought car new over 70k miles ago and had never experienced anything like this before 8/12/17 and now it has happened twice within 8 days and under very similar conditions. Very dangerous situation.

Car revved too much and was not moving. Was able to pull over on the shoulder from the fast lane due to the momentum of the car. Avoided a fatal injury for sure. Apart from this, 1. Car sometimes speeds up way more than it should. 2. Subaru changed the short block due to excessive oil consumption but intermittently it still is out of oil way too soon.

Cvt transmission failure of my 2014 subaru forester touring 2.0 turbo model. When i put the car into park and turned off the car after driving, it did not turn off the dashboard lights, the belts were still spinning and i had to remove the battery to shut it off. 1 week later the battery was dead. I jump started and the engine light and other alerts were all lit. When i brought the car to my mechanic, he ran diagnostics and said the transmission will need to be replaced. The car is only 5 years old. Top of the line subaru andi only have 56,860 miles on the car.

1) cvt valve kit damaged (3 years old) 2) but main reason for this compliant is rear coils breaking, i do not know but they have been broken for some time causing rear bearings and rear shocks damage.did some research and found everyone w/ 2014 thru 2015 foresters are having this problem at any mileage.told dealer and they said subaru knows of this problem but has not issued a recall?the average person will not realize their coils could be broken like me until bearings and shocks fail ..... This sounds like a major issue to me?

Stopped for red light, when i tried to acceleration heard a loud thump and the car would not move. Abs, transmission light came on.i thought i lost my transmission. Had to be pushed off busy highway and then called triple a to have car towed.was on route 113.after researching internet found that subaru extended warranty.

The transmission failed completely in july, 2018.i contacted a subaru dealer on july 30 for service, but the first appointment available was on august 1st.i found out that subaru had been having some of these problems and extended their warranties.because my actual service was on august 1st, subaru said i missed the extended warranty by one day!corporate subaru offered to pay half of the $7,500 cost for a new transmission, but i was left to pay the rest.they said if i had been a "more loyal" customer they would have paid more than half.i left the car at the dealership for 3 months trying to negotiate the price down.eventually i had to pay for $2,000 of the repair.i don't understand why subaru has not had to recall the vehicles experiencing these transmission failures, or at least pay for repairs once it fails.when we first felt the vehicle not responding normally, we stooped driving.it was not safe.

Valve body solenoid inside the cvt transmission failed and fully locked up. Subaru states that their cvt transmission never needs to be serviced but covers the cvt to 100,000 miles.shorty after a hundred thousand miles, the valve body solenoid failed and subaru of america denied coverage. Had a third party mechanic replace the cvt and upon inspection, the cvt fluid in the old cvt transmission was dark, dirty and thick. Chunky or gooey what describe it.subaru states the cvt transmission never needs to be maintained, yet no motor oil or transmission oil can go on forever.

I slowly pulled into a parking space at walmart and the vehicle suddenly accelerated violently and jumped the median.the car crashed into metal racks with plants on them.the car was suspended on the median.witnesses saw that the car surged forward while my brakes lights were on as i slowed to enter the parking space.earlier on the day of the accident and the day before i noticed that the car hesitated (chugging while i was driving about 20 mph), but that stopped when i entered the highway.i now think this is somehow related to the acceleration surge.

A few weeks ago the vehicle began to have difficulties shifting/accelerating from a stop it would feel like it was slipping and not responding to the accelerator . It has been evaluated as a transmission failure at a cost of $10,000.i purchased the vehicle new and purchased an extended warranty that would cover the power train up to 100,000 miles. The vehicle has had all scheduled maintenance performed and all of it at the same dealer service center with documentation. This includes a 90,000 mile service where the transmission was included in the preventive maintenance check and indicated as no issues. The vehicle has only been used for normal driving. No hauling or towing and no heavy cargo. The transmission should not fail only 12,000 miles outside of the warranty that i purchased and having been serviced appropriately and inspected within 20,000 of the current issue. Subaru of america is not covering the replacement under warranty for what appears to be a known safety issue that required them to extend this same 100,000 warranty coverage to all vehicles from this model year under what i understand to be a class action lawsuit settlement. The loss of acceleration and slipping in the shifting when powering away from a stop is dangerous if the vehicle stalls or suddenly slows due to loss of power and this is due to a known cvt issue. Subaru should be held accountable for all the vehicles they produced with this defect and not be able to hide behind a a lawsuit settlement that allowed them to leave vehicles like mine on the road as ticking time bombs all because the symptoms of the issue didn't show up before 2018 or a only 12,000 miles outside of their own warranty that they sold.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving at various speeds, the transmission gears were grinding. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the cvt transmission needed to be replaced, which had been previously replaced twice. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 58,000.

Transmission/computer malfunction.initially driving through mountains, using sport # mode in low speed curves on old road.had one 'surprise' episode where in a straight section of highway, transmission dowshifted suddenly, with rpms racing up to nearly 5000rpm, although i didn't touch the paddles, and didn't even have my hands on them. After reaching a normal straight highway out of the mountains, an hour later, while simply driving at 75mph, the engine lost power, gas pedal became unresponsive, rpms fell, vehicle was coasting down from highway speed, and transmission did several odd shifts with varying rpms, and decelerations.coasted to a stop, flashers on, off the highway.engine was not running.starter motor worked. Engine would not start. Flashing lights on cruise control, check engine, and "at temp", and possibly others not recalled.called spouse. Contacted towing service. Opened hood: fluids, oil level, etc all appeared normal when checked. Temp display in vehicle showed normal (219 degrees radiator temp).tried turning key on/off repeatedly to see if computer would reset: no luck.spouse called 30 min later: online research found removing plug next to transmission shift lever in center console, and using long screwdriver to press switch at bottom might reset some device. Tried it different times: key 'on', key 'off', etc, reset appeared to take effect with key 'off',then turned on.vehicle now cooling down (45 minutes on roadside, not running). Now restarts when cranked. Various lights "check engine', 'at temp', cruise control light no longer flashing. Warning on panel stating "vehicle hill start assist not available" no longer showing.car appears to run. Drove ~ 5 miles to roadside business. Cancelled tow. Checked car again. Drove gently to home city. Rescheduled flight to alaska vacation because of the delay.

Also, the seat belt angled from the roof diagonally, therefore limiting rear view vision.the center head rest was only two inches high, rather than the lateral head rest being eight inches high.

When i bought the car in 2016 the drivers seat cover had cracks in the bottom left seat cushion cover.the left bottom seat cover was replaced.now 4 years later the same area on the replacement seat cover is cracking.in addition the passenger side seat cover is cracking on the right side seat cushion cover.

Airbag warning light is lit on the main cluster behind the steering wheel and also on the center display. I believe the system is faulty and i'm seeing an overwhelming number of similar complaints online. I'm worried the airbags will not deploy in an accident. My car has never been in an accident, i have never spilled fluids on the seats which seems to be a common phrase coming from mechanics at subaru service centers.subaru should be responsible for their safety systems. They should diagnose and fix this safety problem. This is not a part that that experiences wear and tear like brake pads.if it was, i'd happily pay out of pocket to replace. I don't want to wait and see if airbags go off in an accident.subaru has already issued a recall for 2015-2018 models. This tells me they have problems with their airbag systems and neglected to address issues on 2014 models.

2014 subaru forester. The srs airbag light has come on. I took the vehicle to the local subaru dealership and they claim the cause is a sensor within the passenger seat being broken. This is a safety concern and should be reviewed.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While exiting the car wash, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning and crashed into a pole. When the brake pedal was depressed, it failed to operate and the steering wheel seized. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The dealer was not notified and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.the consumer stated the vehicle was considered a total loss. The manufacturer reimbursed the cost of the rental vehicle. The consumer stated the floor mats could not have caused the failure. Updated 9/13/18

2014 subaru forester. Consumer writes in regards to battery being drained abs fault light being illuminated. *ldthe consumer stated multiple failures began after having safety recall wue-90 performed on the vehicle. The vehicle's battery repeatedly would drain due to the tail light being illuminated with no apparent cause. The hill control warning light, abs warning light, and the anti skid warning lights all illuminated. Occasionally, the vehicle would not accelerate when depressing the brake pedal.

Warning lights keep going on while driving including the "abs warning light", "hill assist" and "vehicle dynamics control" . This always disengages the cruise control and often happens after driving for awhile. This didn't start happening until i had the dealer replace the clock spring due to non working horn and cruise control and trouble with steering roll connector. They also replaced rear coil springs and rear left wheel bearing and backing plate.

I have my back light on by itself without hit breaks and back door poton does not work and i have light on my board always light up

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While the vehicle was being reversed, the accelerator pedal was slightly depressed and the vehicle accelerated very quickly. The contact's vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to slow down or stop the vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v159000 (equipment). Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

Rear wheel backing plate design. Nhtsa id #10185064. Occurred on my 2014 forester with 34,000 miles (garaged).made a howling noise at low speeds. Replaced by dealer $700 parts and labor.never had this on any other car i have owned. Clearly a design issue. Please support a recall.not safe for cars to be making that kind of noise, even though technically passed pa state inspection. Thanks. .

The stop light switch failed which rendered the car inoperable due to not being able to move from park.the stability, hill decent and abs warning lights came on.

Acceleration while braking and it's sporadic

Upon starting the vehicle or while driving it the following warning messages appear (it has happened multiple tines over the past few months, they will go away and ten reappear days or weeks later):vehicle dynamic control system needs to be checkedabs system needs to be checkedhill start assist system needs to be checkedtook car to dealership for normal maintenance in july (bay ridge subaru) they could not find anything, messages started reappearing.issue with theses messages is car will not go into gear upon starting unless you pump breaks multiple times.

At vehicle start, or while driving, the following warning messages appear on the vehicle information panel:1) vehicle dynamic control system needs to be checked; 2) abs system needs to be checked; and 3) hill start assist system needs to be checked.these warnings appear, go away, and then reappear randomly.when these warnings appear at vehicle start, i am unable to put in gear without pumping brake pedal multiple times.when these warnings appear with the vehicle in motion, i am unable to utilize the cruise control.i have taken the vehicle to my local mechanic, warnings were not being displayed at the time, and they could not find anything wrong, i will be taking the vehicle in to the dealership for service soon and will address these issues at that time.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that he experienced a failure related to nhtsa campaign number: 14v311000 (service brakes). The contact stated that the vin was not included and that his state was excluded from the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,000. The vin was not available.

On summer 2015, i had a problem with my 2014 subaru forester xt. I'm a subaru fan.my car is equipped with eyesight system, which will apply brakes for me in case i don't or will increase brake force to avoid a collision in case i didn't. This is one of the strongest selling points of the eyesight system: frontal collision avoidance. That day on a busy highway, during rush hour, i was noticing some sponge effect in the brake pedal so i decided to increase the distance between me and the car in front of me. Suddenly, the brake pedal stopped responding to my proportionality (controlled force applied) and i end up rear-ending the car in front of me. I work testing landing gears for planes and helicopters so brake fade was not new to me. I immediately recognize the problem and reported to the dealer. The problem was reproduced by the dealer's technician and the car was interned for further revisions. 2 days later, they told me that the lack of service in the brake system was the cause of the problem but the service was done in another dealer on time. That was the last excuse i heard from subaru. Customer service told me that they will not replace any part in the car if a dealer doesn't approve it, so i took the car to the same dealer where the 20,000km service was done, 1 hour away from my town. By that time, the ambient temperature was lower from summer 33c to autumn 17c. The dealer put more than 20km on the car just to tell me that he could not reproduce the failure so there's no failure at all. I explain to him that the failure cannot be reproduced at 17c temperature. I even show him that the brake force is so weak, it never activates the abs system, but also in vain. Subaru cant explain why an eyesight equipped car ends up rear-ending the car in front of it, in busy traffic conditions. They simply didn't answer me anymore.

My car had an unexpected acceleration when applied the break to park on the parking lot. As a result vehicle went and collided into a restaurant, damaging the restaurant glass wall and front bumper, passenger front wheel/tire of the vehicle.

July 6, 2018 driving on city street when my foot had the brake depressed and the auto suddenly accelerated so much that i had to turn into a curb to avoid a collision with another vehicle - i hit a curb with one tire to avoid accident and had to get four new tires because it is awd. Today my brake was depressed and it accelerated when i was in reverse then attempting to get suv into drive - driving down my daughter's driveway today, it accelerated so rapidly unintended that pressing the brake would not stop vehicle - engaged emergency brake and it still did not stop it - placed it into park and pressing brake continuously and emergency brake engaged, finally stopped the car at roadside after turning off ignition - very hazardous safety issue - lucky no one was hurt or killed - this suv is a dangerous vehicle - having it towed by aaa tomorrow morning to dealer.what can i do about this?it has only 41,870 miles on it - bought it brand new from the dealer in may 2014 and i am only driver.help!

Vehicle unexpectedlyaccelerated upon stepping on the brake pedal after stopping for a red light.

Steering doesn't return to a neutral state when turning at speed.

Subaru corporate recently purchased my 2014 forester back under the lemon law. This was after i had 4 documented incidents of the vehicle veering sporadically out of control around 55 mph. It was inconsistent but the mechanic was able to determine that something was pulling it out of alignment/after this happened it was always out of spec. It was quite dramatic. As in the entire back-end would start to pull out of control. This often happened within icier conditions. While subaru corporate was responsive in getting me a new subaru, i do not feel they at all acknowledged or took my complaint serious. They kept referencing my inconvenience with an alignment issue. If it was as simple as an alignment issue, they could have fixed it the first time. My concern is that others are having this same issue but since it is difficult to replicate and extremely inconsistent, it'd be easy to not acknowledge the seriousness of this issue. Since mentioning my frustration to random acquaintances, two individuals have contacted me for additional information because they are having a comparable problem with their forester and/or cross trek. I sent a lengthy description about my safety concerns to subaru corporate which they ignored. Perhaps that is an appropriate response but i want to make sure that somebody is looking into this/making sure it is not a more serious issue.

Power steering failed on warm start. Car was drive-able but steering took considerable effort and may have not been possible for person without sufficient strength.

Power steering apparently defective.a grinding noise will be heard when steering on a frequent basis when moving.

We had the oil changed and car inspected at the vista automotive group subaru of silverthone, colorado on december 29, 2014.everything about the car was reported to be in good condition.upon departing for california on january 2, we were on interstate 70 when the car began to yaw (pull to left and then pull to right) in both directions.there was some residual snow in the center of and on the sides of the lane but the pavement under the tires was dry. After about one hour of this phenomenon, and after the pavement was completely clear, the yawing ceased.we took the vehicle to mccrae subaru in eureka, california upon our return and were told the following day that the speed difference in the drivetrain was apparently caused by the rear tires having less tread than the front tires.after contacting subaru national headquarters, we were told the rear tire wear resulted from the failure to rotate the tires.subaru referred us to yokohama tires for replacements.we purchased two new yokohama tires and when mounted by tp tires in arcata, california, were advised that the rear wheels were out of alignment.we then had the car aligned by simply performance automotive of arcata, ca and they confirmed the rear two wheels were out of alignment, causing the tires to wear unevenly.we still are concerned that the yawing could be the result of the car's computer system, but have no confidence that subaru will diagnose the problem honestly, as they continue to maintain it's a tire rotation issue.

The steering control module has failed twice in the last 4 years and 2 months.the power steering is lost and the steering wheel becomes very difficult to turn.the two times this failure has occurred has been in colder temperatures and during local driving.the car becomes very difficult to steer, and for a small person it could be dangerous.the steering module code per the dealer's service department is 2532.both times when i spoke to the dealer,in 2014 and 2019, they acted as though they never heard of this issue.i am having the module replaced for the second time.

I started the car and the steering felt like it was incremental when you rotated the wheel. It was colder than normal out but not that cold. The temp was probably in the 40'sf. This has been an intermittent problem since then. I have had it at the subaru 4 times at two different dealerships and the last thing they told me was call subaru. I believe it is the control module for steering.

14 subaru forester and it has been intermittently having issues with the key in the ignition getting stuck.started with moving the steering column and jiggling the key to now it's become a huge issue. Gets stuck all the time! takes up to 30 minutes to remove the key!subaru needs to fix this!it's becoming a common faulty issue!!

A grinding noise occurs when the car is steered while in motion.

The 12-16 impreza, 13-17 crosstrek, and 14-18 forester have a known issue of the electric steering rack becoming compromised, leading to steering issues. The issue is described in the issue bulletin as just "uneven steering effort" and that it is not unsafe and so is not a recall item, however i came to learn about this issue with my car after it suddenly starting this problem while driving, causing me to jerk wildly to the other side of the road with only the slightest left turn of the steering wheel, which could have very definitely caused an accident (this all being in front of a police officer, of course). I am 8 months pregnant and now all of a sudden have a possible dangerous issue with my car but cannot afford the fix immediately- i am hoping this can become a recall item in order to feel safe in my car again.

Power steering failed.car was parked in the wa state ferry line in anacortes, wa.when car was started, a computer message appeared that the power steering needed to be serviced and a warning light appeared on the dashboard.my husband was driving and he could barely steer the car onto the ferry.he told me that it took everything that he had to get it onto the boat.we parked the car.when we reached friday harbor, my husband started the car, and was able to drive it normally - the warning light and message was no longer displayed.i took it to the subaru dealership in burlington, wa on 2/20/18.a diagnostic was done and the code was found for the power steering system.i was told that the power steering gear needs to be replaced - $1,000 for part and at least $600 for labor plus taxes.first of all, my car only had 30,000 miles warranty or 3 years (past that) and it seems like if a gear was having issues, why would it work and then not work and then work.safety concerns, and wondering why it would fail so soon.i have approximately 24, 500 miles on the car.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the steering wheel moved back and forth while on cruise control with the tires wobbling. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the front driverā€™s and passengerā€™s side tires were able to move 6-8 inches without effort. The steering gear and all four tires were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

The power steering light comes on when the car turns on. Unable to turn the steering wheel unless a ton of force is applied. Turn the car off and on again a few times and messages goes away. But does it multiple times a day.

I purchased my 2014 forester in july 2013.i love the vehicle except for the design of the climate control dials which i consider to be a safety hazard because it is so difficult to ascertain at a glance what the current setting is for each function (heat/ac temp, fan speed, fan direction.)staring at the dial(s) or repeated glances takes the driver's attention off the road for too long, and therefore is absolutely a safety issue:each round dial has a rubber grip surface that the user contacts. On the front face of the dial is a shiny chrome bezel ring.this ring is quite narrow and has 7 small, equidistant indentations around the radius. One of the indentations is yellow plastic, which indicates the setting.at a glance, the small yellow plastic indicator is very difficult to locate among the other six indentations.what the purpose is of the indentations is a mystery (some marketer wanted sparkle?) and why subaru chose pale yellow against shiny chrome makes no sense.i have successfully altered my dials by putting a tiny drop of white fingernail polish on the black rubber grip directly above each yellow plastic indicator. Now, at a quick glance, i can easily see at what position each function dial is set.it's great.i feel much safer.i know this sounds like a small, unimportant problem, but it was a huge concern to me.i hope no forester owner is involved in a crash because he/she took his/her eyes off the road for too long trying to figure out one or more of the climate control settings.the forester might be a "top safety pick" but not on this. Thank you.

2014 sabaru forester.consumer writes in regards to vehicle seat head rest, seat belt and rear view visibility issues.the consumer stated there was limited rear view visibility with two large blind spots due to a 64 square inch head rest. Also, the seat belt angled from the roof diagonally, therefore limiting rear view vision.the center head rest was only two inches high, rather than the lateral head rest being eight inches high.

I was using my key to open the back trunk when all of a sudden it slam down quicklyon my arm as i went to place an article in the back of the car. I called the subaru dealership and made an appointment for august 8th 2018

In parking spot, foot on brake, car suddenly surged.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester xt. The contact stated that her friend who was driving, placed the vehicle in park, exited the vehicle, and the vehicle shifted into reverse independently rolling over the driver's foot. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a tree and damaged the hatchback.unknown warning lights illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. The driver required medical attention for their injury. The vehicle was takento lake forest subaru (23663 rockfield blvd, lake forest, ca 92630 (949) 837-3500) where it remained there for 6 weeks and the results indicated that there was no failure with the vehicle. The dealer mentioned that the vehicle was inspected by a specialist and was also unable to detect the failure as well. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000. The vin was invalid.

The top nut of the rear left lift gate piston ball snapped/rusted off causing the back hatch to drop violently as we were unloading the car. Hitting my daughter on the back and my husband on the head knocking them to the ground. The car was parked in our driveway on a flat surface. I took it to ruges subaru in rhinebeck ny to have it fixed. I was charged for it and got home to find out they never fixed it, stating i declined replacement, which i did not, but was still charged for it.

When trying to close sunroof, normally the roof window would slide back and a set of pin will push the rear side of the window up to seal the gap between the window and rooftop.however the device is defective and the window will not go back to its supposed location.water may leak in to wiring and cause further damage.

My 2014 subaru accelerated as i pulled into a parking spot hitting a tree. My foot was on the brake when this happened.my air bags did not deploy .

I was driving up my driveway. I was braking when the car jerked forward and hit the garage door. I was able to stop the car by applying the brakes. The garage door was damaged as was the front bumper and grill of the car.

My car had an unexpected acceleration when applied the break to park on the parking lot. As a result vehicle went and collided into a restaurant, damaging the restaurant glass wall and front bumper, passenger front wheel/tire of the vehicle.

I walked behind the vehicle that was parked on side of the street, and pressed the button that activates the powered tailgate and causes it to open. As the tailgate was opening, the left tailgate gas lift support broke off from the tailgate. When the tailgate reached its maximum height, it slammed down in an unrestrained manner. Now whenever i try to use the automatic tailgate, it opens to the maximum height, then abruptly and without warning slams down with great force, with a potential to injure someone.*dtconsumer stated pushed button to raise liftgate; appeared that when liftgate reached maximum height, it came crashingdown. Complainant was standing back waiting for the liftgate to open when incident happened. Tried to open the liftgate using button again a couple more times; liftgate would open, but would come crashing down again when it reached maximum height.looked to see what was the problem and saw on driver's side that the strut was broken at the side where the ball joint connects to the vehicle. Saw rust all around the ball and the top part of the ball had sheared off. Unscrewed the remainder of the strut to remove. Used the program on the vehicle to adjust the maximum height of the liftgate so that it didn't open as much (approximately 3-5' lower) and then it would open without crashing down. Ordered a liftgate replacement part online and repaired himself. No problems since. Did not replace the passenger side strut. Consumer will send photos of new driver's side and original passenger side rear liftgate struts at connector points.*dt

Just pulled into a parking spot, foot on brake, car surged.

Tailgate problem - car was in stopped position. I was unloading groceries so opened the tailgate. The tailgate opened and paused in it's highest position for a second and then slammed abruptly with intense speed. The speed of the closure is enough to injure someone orcause death. This is a very serious issue. Others seem to have have reported this for 2014/2015 forester as well https://www.carproblemzoo.com/subaru/forester/2014/tailgate-problems.php

My 2014 subaru forrester accelerated and hit a tree as i pulled into a parking space. It tboned the front end and and the air bags did not deploy..i was going into the space very slowly and it was when it accelerated.

My drivers side door seal has repeatedly come loose from the door.this usually happens in very hot or cold conditions. I struggle with it on an irregular basis.recently my passenger's side door is doing the same thing and is more resistant to being put back into place.

I opened the trunk of my subaru forester limited edition with the remote. While i was removing the luggage from the trunk, i heard a noise as the liftgate was closing. Before i turned to see what was happening, the liftgate landed on my lower back. I realized that theright support of the liftgate was broken.

On june 22, 2016, my husband parked the car on our driveway, located at 1264 hancock place in pocatello, idaho.i got out on the passenger side door and stepped to the side and closed the door with my left hand.i was not farenough away from door and the corner caught my leg andthe cut required 11 stitches.the corner has no rubber protection on it, i feel it is a design flaw.the consumer stated manufacturer was notified and had the door inspected. The inspector suggested having the door filled/cut off. No further assistance was offered.updated 08/23/2017

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While attempting to open the liftgate, the contact stated that the left strut on the liftgate fractured which caused the liftgate to independently close. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that strut bolt was corroded which led to the liftgate failure. Left rear coil spring broken not due to heavy load or rough terrain driving vehicle only has approx. 27,000 miles on it .from what i'm seeing on line and hearing from other owners and dealers, it is a pretty common problem.

On may 13,2019 i pulled the car into my driveway and parked the car behind the house. As i was getting out of the car there was a bang on the right side (passenger side) of the car. Upon inspection on the ground were two pieces of the coil spring. There was a noticeable difference in the height of the car. The following day i took the car to my repair shop. They are replacing both rear coil springs.

Both rear springs broken. Went to mechanic to fix both rear bearings , mechanic discovered both rear springs were cracked.

My 2014 subaru forester was sitting in my garage. I heard this horrible, almost explosive noise and found that my left coil spring snapped! this car has 68k miles and has never carrier heavy loads or traveled rough roads. I drive all highway. Super shocking to have this happen while it is just sitting, but i cringe to think if this happened 1 day earlier driving 22 miles from work or with my family.the coil was just completely sheared off. My car is sitting on the crossbar very close to sitting directly on my tire. Waiting for the assessment from subaru to see if it caused any additional damage.

There is metal clicking noise from driver side rear end when running on bumpy or rough roads. Driver side rear door felt as if it is not closed properly when this happened. Rear end bottomed out when this happened. Car feels unstable. This is a consistent problem and it is getting worse and worse.

Driving at about 60 mph and car starting vibrating violently for a few seconds. Continued driving and 10 minutes later same thing for same length of time happened again.

Bottom of both left and right rear coil springs broke - at the point where they sit on the lower spring seat of the strut.they both fractured at exactly the same spot on the coil - at the first 1/2 loop of the coil (about 4 inches) and in the same diagonal type of shear.pictures attached of the pieces that broke off each coil.car has only 58,000 miles and never driven off road or overloaded.not exactly sure when they broke - was discovered by my mechanic while doing other work on the car.

Both rear suspension coil springs broke and need to be replaced and so do the struts. Both broke while driving on a well paved rode going 35 mph. I did not hit or run over anything. They completely snapped apart. This is clearly due to defective part as there are 100's of complaints for this happening to 2014-2015 model foresters and coming from a family of mechanics, this does not just happen. The car has 50k miles and is only driven on well paved roads. Springs broke while driving kids in back. Car very unstable and cannot stop as quickly. Really unsafe. These need to be recalled.

I was driving at a low rate of speed in my paved apartment complex road when i heard a loud metallic ping.i thought i had just thrown a rock or something. But the next day my car was making squeaking noises when going over rough roads and over speed bumps and seemed more difficult to handle when driving.i took the car in to the dealer to find that the right rear spring had sheared and that both back spring were badly rusted.i only had just over 21,000 miles and do not drive off road or do any towing.both springs had to be replaced. This seems to have happened far too soon in the life of car -- i believe it is a manufacturing defect given how many other people i've heard having the exact same issue. Repair bill was ~$780.subaru did reimburse a good portion as a good will gesture - acknowledging that this was a premature failure.

Rear driver's side coil spring broke while vehicle was stationary.it broke in the same spot as so many others have reported recently, having completely rusted from the inside out in a small spot on the bottom.unacceptable to happen with a 5 year old vehicle and very, very dangerous as this could have happened while driving causing a loss of control over the vehicle and/or a tire blowout from the spring breaking.this is a defective part on the 2014 subaru forester and really should be an official recall asap before someone gets seriously hurt.

Drivers side rear damper spring broken approximately 1/2 coil from the bottom of the damper.this approximately 3 to 4 inch piece of spring was rusted in the area of the break, resting on the lower damper "hat".the break was complete. This sharp piece was easily lifted off the damper. The spring displayed peeled paint an rust on several locations.found at around 46,000 miles only upon inspection while replacing brakes.unsure of any specific time of breakage.vehicle was inspected at 30,000 miles.no remarks about the damper spring.dealer and subaru corporate replaced the spring.

As i was turning right, to pull into my driveway, i heard a loud noice like heavy clanging sound and felt my car drop. I stopped and when i got out of the car, i found a circular shaped piece of metal in my driveway. When i looked at the car, the driver's rear side of the vehicle looked like it was nearly touching the tire on that side. I picked up the metal and took photos. The part was rusted on the inside. The vehicle only has 39000 miles and was just inspected three months ago (9/2019). I made a service appointment and had the car towed to the service center because i had safety concerns about driving a vehicle with a suspension problem. It concerns me that this could have happened on a highway going 55-65mph and could've caused a terrible accident. The service center confirmed that it was the suspension (spring coil and strut needed to be replaced). Repairs cost approx $1400.

Vehicle was in for front and rear pads and rotor replacement (at 30k miles!) mechanic informed me that i had a broken rear coil spring and sent me a picture of the broken piece. It was half of a coil that had completely rusted through and snapped off the bottom of the spring. Car now sits unevenly and has compromised suspension and possible safety issues. Further research finds many complains of exactly the same issue with 2014-2015 foresters. No one makes replacement springs and subaru dealers are backordered with nationwide repairs, leaving us no recourse

2014 subaru forester was parked when the left rear coil spring shattered. Made a large noise and upon investigation discovered car at an angle in wheel bed. Car undriveable.on vacation at the time and had to drive 5 hours (roundtrip) to buy two new rear coil springs on advise of mechanic who towed car to his garage. He stated that the right coil spring was very rusted and showing signs of disintegration as well. Was advised that this part is very difficult to obtain as this is happening a lot.our car had just over 41,000 miles on it.driven primarily in the dc metro area.single owner of the car.given the amazed reaction of many, we are surprised that this part has not been recalled.i have been driving for over 50 years and have never had a problem like this.i do not haul heavy loads, nor do i use the car to tow anything.this is my "grandma" mobile, chosen because of subaru's supposed safety and reliability record.

My left rear spring let go.my car has been in the shop for two weeks now.the suburu dealer stated that they do not have the parts in stock and do not know when they will have them available.i asked them to repair the right rear spring as well because i want both springs replaced at the same time so the car will not be harmed.i did not feel safe driving the vehicle and am disappointed it has taken this long so far.i have not heard from the dealer and am concerned at how long this is going to take to repair.they cannot tell me anything.i feel the springs on the vehicle are not safe and they should be recalled.suburu should pay for the replacement of the springs and not charge me.i did not go over any pot holes.i have very low mileage on my vehicle.i have always been happy with suburu cars (this was my third purchase) but after this incident, i am not certain i will purchase a new suburu vehicle again.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving into the garage, the contact noticed metal on the ground. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the rear passenger side spring fractured. The contact called capitaland motors (37 saratoga rd, schenectady, ny 12302, (518) 631-5792) and informed them of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 29,000.

Rear passenger side spring coil was broken i don't know when. My mechanic saw it when she was replacing my breaks. Every person i spoke to about this said it had never happened to them, even with cars they basically ran into the ground, let alone a 5 year old car. Most of the complaints about 2014 foresters on nhtsa seemed to be about this same issue. I brought it to the dealer, since most garages didn't have the parts needed, and i was hoping that subaru would pay since they seemed to use shoddy steal on the springs that rusted prematurely. Subaru of wakefield in ma gave me the best deal of any in ma that i talked to, i pay for one side ($750 for wheel bearings, strut and coil) and subaru paid for the other.make sure to mention all the complaints on nhsta that seemed to help me get this deal.

I found half of the coil in my garage.this was to the driver side rear shock.i am not sure about the condition of the other 3 shocks.looks like the coil just rusted out.

I had my 2014 subaru forester at the local dealership for the recall repair for the brake lamp switch replacement. They notified me of a broken left rear coil springs and stated that the "vehicle is unsafe to drive". They recommended replacing both. It has about 31,000 miles on it.

At 67000 miles rear drivers side coil spring is broke. This is a gently used vehicle that is garaged always, do not believe corrosion was the issue. Having to replace with subaru parts that have been modified to be more robust, meaning subaru recognizes an issue with potentiallysafety related part.

During a brake check, the mechanic discovered the right pass spring was broken on my 48k mile forester. He felt it was a safety issue as the part could have broken off completely and possible injured someone else or caused an accident. The parts on others cars of the same model all break at the same point, it seems, and the opinion is that the springs are rusting from the inside out (see attached image of broken spring.) on online forums, i see this is not an isolated incident and my mechanic has seen many others with the broken springs in foresters of the same year. I called subaru america, mentioned that i believe this should not happen in such a newish car, and more concerning it's a safety issue. They agreed to pay for the part only, not the labor since it was not done at a dealer. Because they are reimbursing owners, they seem to realize this is an issue.i believe this is a wide spread issue, and deserves a look by the nhtsa. Thanks for you consideration.

Both rear coil springs have broken at the bottom coil that rests in the bottom spring base of the strut assembly. Mechanic found cracks during safety inspection during brake replacement. As technician was backing vehicle out of the bay a piece of the right hand coil at the bottom of the coil separated from the vehicle. Photo attached. Lh coil still in the vehicle.

When getting rear wheel bearing replaced mechanic advised that both rear coil springs were broken. No known cause.

Driving down the highway at approximately 70 mph and the drivers side rear coil spring collapsed. We heard a loud metal bang and when we got home i noticed the coil spring was broken.

The right rear coil spring broke and a portion fell off in our garage.my wife left with the vehicle and i found a portion of the coil on our garage floor.when she returned, i could see that the right rear of the vehicle was "sagging" lower than the left side.

Both coil springs on my 2014 forester failed local subaru dealer replaced both springs at a cost tome of $561.00 for parts and labor. In addition, i was charged 99.95 for a four wheel alignment mandated by the replacement of the springs. Vehicle had only 51,972 on the odometer. The vehicle was in motion on a smooth street when the springs snapped. The result of the broken springs was a sagging rear end of the vehicle making it unsafe to drive. This is a safety failure and should have been repaired without charge to me. I contacted subaru customer service and was told that there was no known problem with the suspension...however, there seem to be very many similar incidents reported on subaru owner websites.

At approximately 57,000 miles, on my 2014 subaru forester, i have experienced my second rear coil spring failure. The first, on the right rear, occurred as i put the car into reverse to back out of my driveway.i have a piece of this coil spring in my possession and clearly shows metal fatigue/stress failure. The second, on the left rear, i believe occurred while driving.as i notice the car tilting again as i went to reenter it and looked under and could see something wrong with the spring.it was towed to stohlman subaru of tysons at 8435 leesburg pike, vienna, va and they have told me the left rear spring is broken and they are replacing it. I have called subaru and up receiving documentation of repairs, they will reimburse me. However, i notice from doing a search on the internet that this is a know problem and often leads to failed rear struts. Therefore, i believe that subaru should be made to recall the foresters to replace the coilsprings, reimburse customers who have paid for repairs, and provide us with extended warranties for the full rear suspension.

Vehicle was parked in my driveway last night, i heard a loud metallic bang but couldn't see anything outside. This morning i found the rear of my vehicle sagging and a pile of pieces of my rear driver side suspension coil on the ground under my car. Vehicle had not been driven in two days before breakage. The cracked edges where the coil broke are quite rusted, so this has obviously been developing for some time.

While vehicle was parked in garage discovered a piece of metal on garage floor which looked like a piece of a coil spring. Later found vehicle to handle poorly. Felt unstable and slammed hard over small bumps. Later figured out what happened - rear passenger side spring failed. That corner now sits 2+ inches lower than opposite side. Now sitting on strut bump stops with no suspension. Vehicle feels unsafe to drive. Called subaru of america and they offered to help with repairs on a "good will" basis but refused to acknowledge as a known issue. Found internet forum with dozens of reports from people with the same problem. See: https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t61866_ds789686

Rear coil springs broken right and left 01/07/2019 - 27811 miles on car, replaced by dealer during state inspection i did not know they were broken until told by service advisor

The driver's side rear spring on my 2014 forester with 39,500 miles broke spontaneously while driving under normal conditions.when the car was placed on a lift and raised up at the repair shop the suspension dropped down and the passenger's side spring broke as well. I have never gone off road, towed, or carried heavy loads.looking around online, many others have had this same thing occur.the replacement springs were back-ordered from subaru for several weeks, indicating that many others have had this happen.i believe this is a manufacturing defect and a nationwide recall should occur.luckily i was driving at low speeds when my spring broke but this could potentially be very dangerous.

In late may 2019, i went outside to drive my forester to the store.underneath the driver side rear bumper, i found part of a coil spring, roughly a 1/2 turn.i looked around a bit, and found that it had come from the driver side, rear coil spring, bottom.the spring at the break was very rusty - both the fragment and from the broken spring still in place. The vehicle was parked in my driveway for approximately 14 hours before i noticed the spring fragment on the ground.this car has always been adult driven and never abused.

Rear coil spring failed after 56,000 miles.it was not a result of any incident.car was well maintained and not driven off road, mostly highway miles.

My car has 43k miles on it and during a brakes service at the subaru dealership they called to tell me they found the left rear coil spring severely cracked and about to break.they recommended that i have both coil springs replaced immediately, that the cracked one could break at any time causing the car to sink and potentially puncture the tire.they recommended that i not drive the car home while awaiting this part to come in - it was that serious a risk.they quoted almost $900 to replace both coil springs plus the cost of an alignment.when i looked up more about this, i found discussion boards where many other people had also experienced this and said it should not happen with so few miles on the car, and that people had found these springs to be rusted and faulty, causing this problem.some dealerships were covering this repair as "goodwill."i called my dealership back and they said they would not cover it as goodwill, but i could ask subaru head office if they would.i called 1-800-subaru-3 and started a claim.they called my dealership and then called me back within 20 minutes and said they would cover the cost of the repair in full, and give me a loaner car while awaiting the part.i wonder if this should be a recall.i also wonder why subaru is not being up front about covering this repair if it is indeed a faulty part on their part.i was quoted $900+ for the repair, and it was only because of looking up the history of others with this problem, and escalating the issue to the head office was this repair covered.my dealership was not forthcoming that this problem should not be happening at 43k miles and seemed unusual.

2014 subaru forester was in shop to replalce both rear wheel bearings, and mechanic informed me that one of the rear springs was also broken. This seems to be a very common problem with 2014 foresters, and a part that should break this easily

Went in for state inspection and my 2014 subaru forester with 28000 miles was found to have a broken coil spring.got it fixed, but i was very surprised.my car is garage kept and i only drive city streets. Goggled the topic and found that other subaru forester owners had similar issues and related early corrosion.hoping you can look into the issue as this could happen on other wheels.thanks.

Rear coil spring broke while car was parked in garage. Left rear of car sagging. Unsafe to drive.

I found a metal piece in my driveway, it is a piece of the rear coil spring. A repair shop advised not to drive the vehicle until the part is replaced, as it is unsafe..the shop has been unable to locate the replacement part. So i am without transportation

Rear coil spring broke under 40mhp over small bump.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the rear of the vehicle swayed abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

At 60,000 miles, while making a left turn in a level parking lot, the rear passenger spring broke causing the car to sag and shimmy. My mechanic informed me that there was the potential of the broken springthrowing off a piece and that piece rupturing the tire. My driving does not involve rough roads.

I was driving home from work on friday april 19, 2019 around 7:00pm.i made a left run and heard a pop.the car became squirrelly.i pulled over at napa and called our mechanic and described what was going on.he asked me if the car was leaning to one side or the other.i said yes.he said it was likely a bad spring or strut.when i got home, i jacked up the car and removed the tire.the right spring was broken and fell off of the strut.saturday april 20, 2019 i got 4 quotes from tom wood subaru.one for springs ($120 x2).one for the struts ($191).one for all the hardware needed ($770).lastly, what tom wood subaru would charge to do the job (around $1100).the said they were booked for at least 2 weeks with airbag recalls.i wasn't sure if i lost any parts so i looked at the left rear sides a reference.to my surprise, that spring was also completely broken but hadn't snapped off the strut yet.this seems like defective springs.the car has 54,448 miles and has not carried a lot of weight or been driven hard.in my 30+ years of driving, i have never had a car break a spring, let alone have 2 broken springs.i was really glad i wasn't in an accident since the back end was very unstable.it drifted from side to side erratically.this defect risked my safety and those around me.to make matters worse, i didn't have a car and had to have my father-in-law had to pick me up to go to easter service.this ordeal has been very stressful.

The right rear suspension on the car collapsed sometime between 6/29/19 and 7/4/19. We did not put weight on the car. The coil spring just sheared somehow. The car has 76k miles on it and has been in mi for the last 3 years. The mechanic could not figure out how this happened, and we are frankly puzzled too.we are not the only ones who this has happened to. Https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t61866_ds789686

The right rear spring rusted out, broke and ultimately dropped down so it was hanging below the suspension mount. The vehicle was hanging low on the right rear quadrant. A body shop technician noticed this problem.i do not know exactly when the spring broke or dropped down.once this was detected, i took it directly to my mechanic. I was told it was not safe to drive the vehicle. I had the repair done immediately at the non-subaru shop that i had taken the car to.the mechanic said this suspension system was new to the 2014 forester models and appears to be faulty to cause the spring to rustdue to the design. He indicated it could have been much worse if it had happened while i was driving, so we believe it dropped when the car was stationary.my vehicle is at only 72kmiles,and is 5 years old. I have possession of the rusted spring, but am unable to upload pictures at this time.i can email them if you provide me an address to send to.

When make turns in moving(backward or forward), there is noisy(click) in front wheel suspension

Front wheels would shimmy at highway speed. Dealer identified the problem as failing front left lower control arm. The vehicle has 50,000 miles on it.

Garage kept automobile with less than 18,000 miles, never taken off road.the bottom of both rear strut springs unexpectedly broke causing vehicle to drop affecting steering and stability.apparent cause: defective part failed due to premature rustingcausing

I was driving home from work on april 19, 2019.i made a left turn and heard a pop.the car became squirrelly.i called our mechanic and he asked if the car leaned to one side or the other. I said yes. He said it was likely a bad spring or strut.when i got home i jacked up the car and the right rear spring was broken. I got 3 quotes from tom wood subaru.one for springs. One for struts and hardware.the last was for tom wood to fix it.i wasn't sure if i lost any parts so i looked at the left rear side. To my surprise, that spring was also completely broken but hasn't snapped off the strut yet.this seems like defective springs.the car had 54,448 miles and has not carried a lot of weight.in my 30+ years of driving, i have never had a car break a spring, let alone have 2 broken springs.

Both rear coil springs prematurely fail in the 2014 and 2015 models. The part has been redesigned and is now in a national shortage. This spring can fail at any time during operation of the vehicle and puncture a tire. My incident occurred while it was stationary without tire damage.

While replacing my right rear wheel bearing, the mechanic noticed that the suspension strut was cracked and broken.i've had more issues with my 2014 in five years than i did my 2002 in the lifetime of the car (12 years).

Passenger side rear coil spring broke.this didn't seem to happen while i was driving, at least not in a what that was noticeable.i walked out of work and noticed that the rear passenger side of the car was sitting a couple inches lower than it should.i took it to the shop and they found that one of the coils of the spring had snapped, causing the sagging.

Rear coil spring broke while car was parked in the garage. Prior to this event, the other rear coil spring had to be replaced due to rust damage.

While driving on a straight flat road, the two rear coil springs broke. The broken springs caused the vehicle to rapidly lose ride height and made it difficult to steer. Searching online for replacement parts showed that hundreds of other subaru forester owners model years 2014-2016 have had similar rear coil spring failures. The service writer at the dealership stated that they had seen enough similar failures that he expected a recall.

The driver's side rear spring broke causing the car to sag.i noticed the sagging while the car was parked, i am not sure when the spring actually broke.the spring was replaced by the dealership.approximately seven months later, the passenger side spring broke while making a left hand turn in traffic.this spring was also replaced by the dealership.immediately after the replacement of the passenger side spring, the passenger side rear was making a rattling and banging noise.i brought the car back to the dealer and was told it was just a heat shield.the noise got increasingly louder and the ride degraded and became very bouncy.i looked under the car and discovered the strut was leaking fluid.the dealership claimed that was unrelated to the broke spring.i also had the rear strut replaced at a third visit.

I started getting severe vibration and wobbling of front suspension on sweeping curves on freeway at speeds over 65 mph at about 33,000 miles on odometer. I replaced the tires, yet it continued. Now the mechanics say both front lower control arms need to be removed and replaced. The car has never been used off road or even in snow. Should not be a problem like this. It is like a new car.

My 2014 subaru forrester was parked in my driveway when a very loud sound occurred. The rear, driver coil spring broke and three pieces of metal were on the floor. The car body dropped and the tire was almost hitting the wheel well. I took it to my local mechanic who was very surprised that on a relatively new car the coil spring broke. I did an internet search and discovered that this was a very common complaint about the 2014 forrester coil springs. They were clearly defective but subaru was not helpful in covering any of the replacement costs especially because both had to be replaced.

R rear coil spring broke while turning on a smooth road at low speed. Subaru dealership admitted that several other foresters were awaiting repair for the same problem. They also said that there was a nationwide shortage of that part and i ended up waiting for several weeks before it could be fixed. Subaru did end up paying for half the cost upon request.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for a routine oil change, the rear driver's side coil spring fractured as the vehicle was being hoisted on the lift. The vehicle was taken to mitchell subaru (71 albany turnpike, canton, ct 06019 (860) 693-7723) where it was awaiting diagnosis and repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,235.

Rear coil springs are defective and actually snapped.spring appears to have been manufactured incorrectly so that stress cracks ultimately result in failure. Mine broke at the bottom and the piece fell off.this could really be a problem travelling on the highway.

A piece of the rear suspension coil spring fell out onto the road when i was driving, and came to a halt behind me on the street. It is similar to a piece i found in my driveway a year ago (which i did not recognize or know where it came from. The car's handling has been 'different' but can't tell if it will become unsafe.

Both rear coil springs are broken . The lowest coil has snapped off each spring and the left rear spring has fallen out of the lower pad so it is not functional at allone spring may have failed earlier, but the left failure made the problem apparent.

I have kept up with my car and serviced it when suggested. I took my 2014 forrester in for a 67.5k mile check and was told that both rear spring coils broke off while on the lift. When shown the broken coil, the plastic was deteriorated and the coil rusted through. This is my 5th subaru, the 4 older models have had well over 150k miles - two are still on the road, and none have had this issue. I also find it strange that the dealership quickly offered to replace them "under warranty" when my car is already out of warranty. Almost like they are trying to cover up something. I have seen other reports of this listed andwanted to further verify this issue. Thank you.

Pieces of my rear coils broke off showing badly rusted. Some in street some in my garage. Vehicle started to drive differently. Took to firestone andboth rear coils broke and1 strut as well. Subaru knows about this but i did not and took to non subaru place for repairs. So they refused to make good or stand behind their vehicle because i didnt go to a subaru dealer and offered 500 cost me 1556.00. This should have been a recall used metal that rusted and failed.

While driving my 2014 subaru forester, i ran over a dip in the road while coming to a stop sign and heard a loud 'bang'. I stopped to check if i happened to hit something and the rear of my forester was completely bottomed out as if it was overloaded. While at the garage, the mechanic raised my car up on the lift and pulled out pieces of the coil springs that sheared off completely. The cost of two new coil springs was $160.00 and it took the garage 3 hours to complete the repair. My car does have 126k miles and the springs had slight corrosion but we're not completely rusted. However, while looking for replacement parts, i have found that many other people have had the same issue with their foresters and a lot with significantly less miles than mine. I do not have photos of the coil springs i will attach the two photos i took before the car was taken to the garage.

Rear springs broke. Car never overloaded or driven off road

Front passenger side suspension bushing completely disintegrated. Three year old vehicle with 55,000 miles. Driver side bushing still intact but showing significant signs of wear. The missing bushing is causing sever vibrations while driving on the highway.

At 56,000 miles hit a moderate size pot hole resulting in broken rear passenger side coil spring requiring new spring, shock and alignment.at 67,000 miles heard loud bang coming from car while parked.found what appears to be piece of broken coil spring under car.required new rear drivers side coil spring and strut.appears large number of similar vintage foresters have experienced broken coil springs with springs found with breaks in similar spots.

Broken rear strut spring with only 51k miles on car. Unknown exactly when it happened but was discovered on 8/8. Vehicle is not driven off road or rough road areas.

Left rear suspension coil fractured when car put in reverse

The steering wheel "leather" coating has been disintegrating for over a year now. The subaru service said it is a common issue with 2014 subaru forest. & should be recalled. Eventually, the undercoat foam material will also disintegrate, he said. Also, both front lower control arms, bushings, band drive, (something like a drive shaft), strut & axel joint had to be replaced at only 69k miles. My car has never been in any accident or hit anything. Subaru paid for failed control arm replacement. This is an extremely unsafe car!

Backing up in drive way heard a clunck noise so brought it to the dealership and they said both coil springs on my car were broke the both broke in about the same spot about3/4 of a coil from the bottom of the coil they both look rusted were they were broke under the rubber sleave at the bottom and gave me the 2 prices of coil spring

My 2014 subaru forester with 42,879 miles was sitting in the driveway. I noticed that the rear driver's side looked very low over the tire. When i looked under the car, there was a semi-circle piece of metal on the ground under the vehicle. The car had last been driven about two days before. I just had the forester in my local subaru dealership service department for a nys inspection and to remedy one recall regarding brake lights one week prior. Upon a simple internet search, i have found many, many owners reporting the exact same issue on 2014-2015 subaru foresters. The car is primarily driven around town in a suburban, paved area and parked in a paved driveway.

Left rear coil spring broke while car sat in driveway.

When i purchased my new vehicle last july, i noticed driving it home there was a "clunk" sound coming from the front end when i went over railroad tracks or any bump.i took it back to subaru and they found a bent and twisted part on the right front suspension.i now have 19k on my car a year later.i noticed my right rear tire bald only on the out side.all other tire tread is perfect.so i take it back to subaru and they had it aligned and said the right wheel had been tipped out! i drive my car very easy!i have never hit anything that would cause this malfunction.the tire co. Will not replace my worn tire and i am feeling a bit slighted on this as i feel it was likely a problem from the car hauler or something.perhaps too aggressively cinching the car on the trailer...or something!both incidents were on the right side of the car.i feel that i should have at the least a new set of tires!this has been no fault of mine in any way!

Ac compressor went after 3 years (went at the end of summer last year 2017) and i live in the north east where we only use ac less than half of the year.also rear suspension spring went this year.both of these issues are extremely premature on a 2014 model year vehicle.there are no good after market options for either of these parts so had to use oem (subaru) parts.the springs have been re-enforced with a white coating that is not on the original and they were on back order for 3 weeks (that's after calling about the delay and getting them expedited)showing there is an issue with this part.the springs broke while driving making a very loud bang then feeling very unsafe to drive.

Both rear coil springs failed at approximately 6" along the bottom of the coil.both failed at exactly the same time.the vehicle was up on jacks and as i was removing the brake rotors to replace the rotors and pads i heard a loud crack followed by the metal parts landing on the garage floor.there is evidence of corrosion at the break points (see photos).there are approximately 45,000 miles on the car.

Premature rear spring broke.car is 65k miles.rear spring rusted and broke; causes the entire rear suspension to break.this make the car tilted and almost out of control.i was on a local road traveling at 25 mph going straight.i brought the car to star subaru service and was being charged $890.00 to replace rear driver side suspension.upon inspection, the rear passenger side spring also rusted.

My 2014 subaru forester seemed low in the rear. I took it to my mechanic and the spring on the rear strut is broken. I looked up subaru issues with struts and there are hundreds of complaints. Also research and found that its not safe to drive like this as it takes longer to brake. Why hasnt nhtsa been a consumer advocate for this? this letter serves as notification that i have informed nhtsa of this dangerous part issue as it has been determined that metal weakness/failure is the cause of this malfunction.

Discovered at routine servicing at just over 34k. The front axel seal is leaking. The rear shocks are failing and need replacing. No off road or over bumpy streets driving. This much too early for both of these problems to occur without heavy driving or on uneven surfaces.

Vehicle stalled while driving, both the springs around the back shock absorbers are broken. This vehicle we drive very lightly, mostly for 6 miles (to and fro) work and don't carry any luggage or more than allowed passengers. Very strange to see this happening. Will never buy or recommend subaru to anyone, i have owned toyota and never this type of serious failure occurred.

Vehicle was stationary.while parked in my driveway, the left rear coil spring broke leaving several pieces lying under the car and leaving the left rear end sagging so that the wheel well barely clears the tire.there was some very mild surface rust only.appears to be poor quality metal that simply fatigued and broke.vehicle has never towed a trailer, carried heavy loads, driven over rough terrain, etc.has only about 77k miles on it.quick search on google shows that this is very common failure on 2014 and 2015 subaru foresters.definite safety hazard.if had occurred at highway speed could have had devastating consequences. I've included a picture of the pieces of the spring that were laying in my driveway under the parked car, as well as a horizontal pick of the left and right wheel demonstrating the difference in clearance between the tire and wheel-well.

The bottom coil of the rear spring broke.the metal snapped.the vehicle was driving on a driveway and we heard a pop. We stopped and found the broken coil on the ground.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While the contact's wife was driving 25-30 mph and making turns, the vehicle swayed and was difficult to keep straight. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to budd baer subaru (71 murtland ave, washington, pa 15301, (724) 914-6670) where it was diagnosed that the rear coil springs were fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 80,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving 35 mph, there was an abnormal noise detected from the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the passenger side of the vehicle was leaning. The vehicle was taken to brilliance subaru (1500 n randall rd, elgin, il 60123, (224) 281-4300) where the contact was informed that the passenger side coil spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the driver's side coil spring fractured after the passenger side coil spring was repaired. The driver's side coil spring was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 48,000. Consumer states that when failure first occurred the vehicle was taken to a local auto shop. It was recommended that the passenger and driver side rear coil springs be replaced. Consumer contacted manufacturer and they agreed to pay for the passenger rear coil spring repair, but not the driver side. On 9/15/2019 driver side rear coil spring failed while car was parked. Manufacturer was contacted but refused to assist because vehicle was out of warranty. *dl

This incident is nearly identical to an earlier complaint:nhtsa id number 10574697.i was travelling on a straight portion of interstate at reduced highway speed due to cold weather and light snow when i began to experience a wiggling sensation in the rear end of the vehicle.like described in the earlier complaint it felt like the rear end wanted to step out, first one way and then the other, repeating rapidly.i could see from the reactions of drivers behind me they were giving me a wide berth and could tell something was visibly happening with my vehicle.the front end did not appear to be affected nor was the ability to steer the vehicle.once i decelerated to 45-50 the wiggling abated.it was snowing at the time but there was no more than a trace on the roadway.no other vehicles around me seemed to be having any difficulties with traction and most were traveling at full highway speed (70).my ability to steer and brake, even moderately, wasn't affected as i could slow immediately and change lanes and the front end did not skid. I travelled at no faster than 50 mph for about another 5 miles at which time i slowly accelerated and waited for the wigging to resume but it did not.i was able to complete my journey (another 40 miles) without further incident.i'm very experienced in winter driving but this is my first time with an awd vehicle.i have never experienced anything like this in my life and it was quite unnerving.i don't know if the vehicle was indeed stepping out due to slippery road conditions (although nobody else seemed to be having any difficulty) and the awd system was correcting (or overcorrecting?) as designed and that was the wiggling i felt.it's not occurred again . . . But i've been careful to avoid similar weather conditions (defeats the purpose of owning a subaru) and have not experienced it in dry weather.

Once and a while i can,t remove the key from the ignition . The car is off ,i justcant remove the key. After about 1/2 hour i can remove the key.

Drivers side window will not stay up/closed when using auto up switch.must close window using multiple start stop engagements of window control.dealer tried multiple to repair multiple times when under warranty.now, not under warranty.dealer blamed dirt or temperature but never convinced of exact cause and never offered to replace switch.

Prior surging occurred with this vehicle.auto is due for a normal maintenance and we were going to address this issue.we turned into a parking lot with workers at the corner and slowed down.we continued into the parking lot and made a tight left hand turn into a slot.the vehicle accelerated as we eased into the spot. The brakes were hit preventing further damage.the truck in the front parking spot was hit but not damaged.our vehicle received a dent and scrapings on the front end. There were no injuries but the biggest concern was the surging and the possibility of it happening again.date of incident:8/7/2015 at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Tailgate lift support failures-on nov 3, 2019, my 2014 forester was parked in my driveway. I opened the tailgate and allowed my dog to jump into the back of the car. When i closed the tailgate there was a loud metal-on-metal crunching noise. I carefully opened the tailgate and then noticed that the driver's side tailgate lift support was hanging down because it had snapped off from where it connected to the tailgate. The crunching metal sound was caused by the tailgate being closed on top of the broken lift support. The tailgate door would not remain open on its own which made it nearly impossible to load or unload the rear of the vehicle without another person to assist. My husband was able to locate a new lift support online and he replaced the part himself.on dec 28, 2019, my car was parked in a parking lot and we had just placed some packages in the rear of the car. When my husband closed the tailgate we heard the same awful noise. This time it was the passenger side lift support which had failed. But in this instance, as the tailgate closed on top of the broken lift support, it broke the taillight.

While driving on a highway at 60 mph, the car suddenly lost power, the check engine light came on, and i was unable to accelerate. I was able to safely pull over to the right side, turned off the car, and restarted it - it worked.this happened again, two days later under the exact same circumstances.it happened once before, about a year ago, while driving on local roads at about 25 mph, and the "error code" said that the accelerator module needed to be replaced.

Vehicle was parked when the driver's side tailgate strut/support failed just as automated cargo door was closing as owner was removing an item from the cargo area. There was a loud bangas the cargo door that it was supporting suddenly fell down.user got a glancing blow on the top of the head. No medical intervention required, but could have been worse if person was more in the way of the falling cargo door. Passenger side srut support was still intact, but as driver's side broke door could not be fully supported. Tailgate strut swung out as it was still partially attached as bolts on one end did not become loose, but prevented door from closing all the way, as strut was hanging (stuck) out of cargo door on the driver's side. This also caused door open light and vehicle interior lights to stay on. Inspection of the failed showa brand strut number 13i062c revealed corrosion on the black tube as well as on the end of the strut that broke off on it's top end from the vehicle. Further inspection revealed corrosion on the passengers side strut that was still in place. Dealer said it was not safe to leave remaining strut on car, as it would likely fail as well. Ultimately dealer ordered the new parts and installed them.subaru of america reimbursed owner for repairs and dealer had owner sign waiver releasing subaru of america from any personal injury claims as a result of the strut failure.vehicle is less than 5 years old and well-maintained.

My front windshield developed a spontaneous crack. It was cold outside and the car was parked in the driveway. When i started the car in the evening, i noticed a horizontal crack about 24" long, near the bottom of the windshield. The defroster was not on. This is my second forester and both windshields have developed the same spontaneous crack in the same place.

Key gets stuck in ignition, wont come out! the vehicle is stationary

The horn has stopped working

My 2014 subaru forester's engine at times acts as if it is going to stall.it acts as though it is getting no fuel.i have had the fuel filter/fuel pump assembly replaced and it seemed to run ok for a short time.the stalling action does not always happen.sometimes it runs smoothly.then it starts the sputtering/stall action again.the mechanic who replaced them in an effort to correct the problem is not able to tell me what else could be causing it.my vehicle gets 93 octane gas and only has 32,000 miles on it.please help.

While parking this vehicle on the street, in front of our apt., smoke came from under the hood, once parked and hood opened, engine caught on fire, fire dept. Was called. The car is totaled.(i do not want to upload pictures, due to identifiable info. In the pictures.)

We have had two ongoing issues with our 2014 subaru forester.we purchased our car when it was two years oldhave had oil consumption issues and a hard time getting our key out of the ignition after driving.on our last trip to florida from ny and back we had to purchase and use two quarts of oil.we had a oil change just before we left.this has been going on since we purchased the car.in 2019 i never thought i would have to pull over to check and add oil to a car.the dealer says this is normal for the car.we had at least three consumption tests done and they came back negative.i'm currently afraid to take my car anywhere since the key and ignition are unpredictable.i never know if i will be able to get the key out.very disappointed with our subaru.it is our second subaru.we had no issues with our last car.

Hello, my name is [xxx], i am disabled (ada) following brain surgery at mass general hospital (december, 2005, [xxx], md). I have since walked with a cane, was required to retire approx 10 years ago, and have routine seizures.i apologize for this, but i feel the air conditioning should be covered, as in many situations (especially with global warming), the cooling is required for the elderly and for people with medical conditions. Please reconsider allowing the faulty air conditioning systems in 2014 subaru foresters to be covered under payment by subaru. The car referenced belongs to my sister nancy english, who commonly drives me to places i need to go. The cost is not expected to be too overwhelming, but i feel the air conditioning is more important to (many) people, than was established some years ago. Thank you sincerely.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Driving at about 60 mph and car starting vibrating violently for a few seconds. Continued driving and 10 minutes later same thing for same length of time happened again.

The horn stopped working.

Repeated thumping noise when turning left at speed approx. 25 mph. Noticed 2 or 3 months ago. Odometer at about 79000 miles.dealer diagnosed bad wheel bearings and repaired them for $700+. No change noticed. Dealer diagnosed and replaced defective auto transmission at no expense to me. (amazing!) i still hear the noise when i turn left. I am concerned that this might indicate a safety issue. Web search "subaruforester.org" shows several similar complaints but no resolution.

Windshield has cracked twice

I would like to report an incident of sudden unexpected acceleration malfunction. Driving at a speed of about 10 miles per hour, i turned left from the street into a slightly uphill driveway about 16 feet long. The subaru suddenly and unexpectedly self accelerated over the entry way to the garage and run into the garage door.when the car started self-accelerating i switched my foot from the accelerator and stepped on the brake pedal and then i shifted gears, which eventually made the car stop. But the garage door was smashed, the car parked inside the garage was hit and in turn hit the washing machine behind it, which and ended up smashed and lodged halfway into the back wall of the garage.i have filed a claim with my insurance. I have also provided my insurance company with information widely available about recent class lawsuits for similar issues in new jersey (weston, et al., v. Subaru of america, inc., et al.) and california (bare et al. V. Subaru of america, inc.), but it seems that this issue with this brand and model has been reported before many times, starting more than ten years ago (https://www.safetyresearch.net/blog/articles/automakers-blame-drivers-settle-unintended-acceleration-cases). From the information available online, subaru repeatedly blames this on the drivers, but the issue seems to originate from a failure of a car's electronic throttle control, allowing the throttle to expand wide open to an apparent software defect plaguing the controller area network and a flaw hampering the brake override system found in affected vehicles (https://www.classaction.org/news/subaru-faces-another-class-action-alleging-defects-to-blame-for-sudden-unintended-acceleration-problems)

I cannot get the vehicle in gear i.e. From park to reverse or drive

Vehicle stall on a flat straight highway with speed around 40mph. The engine then shutdown after the stalling. Low fuel light is on even gas is more than half tank. Then the hill assist lights is on. I pulled over, restart the engine and drive home. Two days later, the same issue happen on highway, this time the travel speed is 55mph on a flat straight highway.

Horn doesn't work. Only works when i lock the car.

Horn ceased to work . Steering roll connector replaced.

Broken right rear coil discovered during oil change, no known cause

The key is getting stuck in the ignition when i go to get out of the car. Of course the car is stationary and in park.

Car was parked in street. Started it and put it into reverse to back into a driveway. Carsuddenly accelerated at high speed in reverse. I would have had to have stomped heavily on gas pedal to get it to that speed but i'm not sure i even touched it. Traveled 2-3 car lengths before i could stop it. Grateful no injuries or damage. Not related to car mats which were anchored in place.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated that the vehicle independently accelerated, while attempting to park. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to stop.the contact was able to turn the steering wheel to avoid crashing into a building. The vehicle came to a stop when it crashed into two poles. The contact stated that no injuries were sustained. The police department was present; however, the contact was unaware of a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an auto body repair facility where the physical damage was repaired. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact mentioned that when the brake pedal was depressed the vehicle would slightly 'hop'. The failure mileage was 30,000.

In parking spot, foot on brake, car suddenly surged.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While attempting to park, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle and it crashed into a tree. The contact did not specify if there were any injuries or if a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to have the body work repaired. The dealer had not determined the cause of the failure at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 12,000.

Just pulled into a parking spot, foot on brake, car surged.

When switching from the brake to the accelerator, the vehicle surges forward. This happens after coming to a full stop and when switching from braking to acceleration at low speeds such as in city traffic. This issue happens randomly. Driver has been very aware of the amount of pressure applied to the accelerator and surging can occur with very little pressure. Because this occurs when moving forward at intersections, moving forward in heavy traffic, and while parking or leaving a parking slot, the chance of a collision is great. The most dangerous is to surge suddenly into an intersection when moving forward to see around obstacles blocking the driver's view of oncoming traffic.

Acceleration while braking and it's sporadic

2014 subaru forester.attorney representing consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration collision.as the consumer approached a handicap space, he slowed down to approximately 2-3 mph and when he removed his foot from the accelerator and applied the brake to stop, the vehicle accelerated rapidly and struck two parked vehicles and then came to a stop, the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled.

I have my back light on by itself without hit breaks and back door poton does not work and i have light on my board always light up

My 2014 subaru forrester accelerated and hit a tree as i pulled into a parking space. It tboned the front end and and the air bags did not deploy..i was going into the space very slowly and it was when it accelerated.

Unintended acceleration while coming to a stop in a parking space.the force of the acceleration threw the car over a curb and several feet into a heavy duty iron fence, which snapped.the car was coming to a stop.

Vehicle was slowly entering a parking space, suddenly accelerated, jumping curb, crossing sidewalk and impacted a building. Car was then put into reverse, it accelerated in reverse and impacted an adjoining parked car. After the accident the area around the accelerator and brake were inspected and nothing was found that might have caused the brake or accelerator to stick or malfunction. The driver of the vehicle claims that her foot was not caught on the accelerator nor did her foot slip off the brake and accidentally hit the accelerator.

While changing from reverse to drive (foot on brake) the vehicle hesitates very badly especially on a hill- pressing on the gas pedal when in drive does not move it forward until the hesitation is over - very scary. Dealer was informed of this shortly after purchase in dec 2013 - he said subaru was aware of the problem and were working on a fix - is this true?

2014 subaru forester. Consumer writes in regards to battery being drained abs fault light being illuminated. *ldthe consumer stated multiple failures began after having safety recall wue-90 performed on the vehicle. The vehicle's battery repeatedly would drain due to the tail light being illuminated with no apparent cause. The hill control warning light, abs warning light, and the anti skid warning lights all illuminated. Occasionally, the vehicle would not accelerate when depressing the brake pedal.

I was making a routine visit to my mother at her apartment. Turned left into the complex then turned right and went up a small hill.at the top of the hill at no more than 5-10 mph i turned fairly sharply to the right to enter the parking space.at that point the vehicle suddenly accelerated and surged forward.the vehicle hit a tree approximately 15-20 feet away.the force of the crash caused the driver side airbag to deploy and the front end received extensive damage resulting in the total loss of the vehicle. I've been driving for over 30 years with no accidents and consider myself an excellent driver.of course i questioned whether or not i could have hit the gas by mistake, but this visit is so routine and have made this same turn into the parking space so many times, i don't believe that is the case.it's hard to believe that the vehicle could have surged forward and hit the tree with that much force in such a short distance.luckily there were no other people involved as i was alone in the vehicle.i can't help but wonder how much worse it could have been.i did report the incident to the subaru dealer and will be making a report to the manufacturer subaru of america.

After a routine periodic maintenance that was reported to include a software update (unrelated?), intermittent events with uneven and briefly absent acceleration occurred when attempting to increase vehicle speed from slow speeds or from a stopped condition when depressing the throttle. No indicator lights were present on the dash of an electronic control problem or any unsafe condition. After initially denying the problem the dealer was able to replicate it. Electronic data was reported to be collected on the event and examined by subaru. Subaru america is reported to have suggested checking the knock sensor connection. Dealer reported "tightening" the connection. No parts listed as replaced, no reason for "loosening" given (at 11500 miles), no reason given for "intermittent" performance, no reason given for lack of indication/dash light for a presumed uncertain state in a sensor controlling acceleration/fuel ignition. I guess the dealer and subaru america know their product best - and this issue is resolved - but i am surprised that an intermittent connection to a sensor impacting acceleration would not result in a dash indicator or code. Also, since no reason for the "disconnection" was given - and no parts were replaced - i can only assume that a factory assembly defect occurred (manifest just after a software change?). In any case, subaru america indicates this problem is resolved. No accident occurred, but since the performance issue was associated with acceleration control, it deserves to be noted.

Vehicle hesitates for 3+ seconds when trying to accelerate.brought in to the dealer on four separate occasions and the problem "cannot be duplicated." dangerous when trying to get up to speed whether it's entering a local roadway or a highway.

I was driving up my driveway. I was braking when the car jerked forward and hit the garage door. I was able to stop the car by applying the brakes. The garage door was damaged as was the front bumper and grill of the car.

Car acceleratedwhen i was pressing the brake to park my carin a private company's parking lot.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated while entering a parking space at an unknown speed, the vehicle erroneously accelerated and crashed into the wall. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was being repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Driving about 15-25 miles per hour. As i started to take foot off the brake car sped foward(forcing me to slam on the brakes).one time my wife hit car in front of her. This has happened five times in the last month. Dealer states nothing wrong with car. Has happened with both myself and wife driving. Very dangerous. Do not know what to do.

Within a few days of having the car, i noted that it did not move forward smoothly from a dead stop but surged ahead.i had not depressed the gas pedal very far.there after i am very careful to depress the gas pedal very carefully until the engine responds smoothlyto a normal speed.i never had this happen in any other car i have owned and i noted after reading the complaints of other owners that others have the same problem. I have not reported it to the dealer because it was not a big issue but now i wonder if this could eventually become a dangerous problem as the car gets older.i also noted a complaint by another person, about the lines on the climate control knob that are difficult to see which she solved by marking them with white nail polish.perhaps subaru designers will hear about this and have those lines painted a color that iseasier to see then the yellow they are using .also i would like to see on the dash board something that tells one what position the lights are in, running? night time? or high beam? as the lever is shielded by the steering wheel.

On january 26, 2019, at 8:00 pm, in a parking deck at a shopping center, i was in a line of cars making a right turn into an aisle. I tapped the accelerator very lightly to move a few feet forward. The car unexpectedly and suddenly accelerated greatly, and i immediately put my foot on the brake as hard as possible to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I had to swerve to the left to avoid hitting the car in front of me because hitting the brake didn't immediately slow the car down. I was able to avoid hitting anything, but it was a frightening experience because the car was out of control.this was clearly a case of sudden unintended acceleration.

When slowly entering home garage vehicle suddenly accelerated & despite standing on the break pedal & pulling the emergency break it crashed into table & work benches at front of area causing damage to furniture & damaging front of vehicle.previously in november 2016 when pulling into highway rest area parking place the carsuddenly accelerated, jumped the curb a & traveled 15' onto a grassy embankment before stopping with maximum breaking applied.

Cracked windshield. On december 14, 2016, a 6 degree day, the windshield cracked across heater strip, side to side, while parked. No evidence of, or prior damage to windshield. Online reports state that this is a recurring problem with newer subaru models, because or weight reduction in thinner windshields. Windshield manufactuer: agc automotive, lamisafe.

The windshield wiper fluid hose that runs between the wiper reservoir and the sprayers has some cheap white plastic that cracked and broke, rendering the wipers practically inoperable. This is some lousy product usage that shouldn't be breaking on a 6 year old vehicle. The reservoir low fluid light keeps going on and off too so the sensor is probably bad, despite being full.

Windshield has cracked twice

A large nut fell from tree (while driving approximately 25 mph) and hit drivers side windshield which shattered. This vehicle comes with specialty heated windshields, which was on at the time as it happened during winter.the second time, the windshield broke without fully shattering, but produced very unusually large "spider" cracks, after a tiny rock hit the windshield while driving approximately 55 mph. The heated windshield was not on during the second incident. Both windshields were subaru factory new and both needed to be fully replaced after each incident.

Going 60 mph on the highway. My driver side front window spontaneously shattered. There was just one very loud noise and the glass fragments stayed in place, with only a few pieces falling into the car. Nothing suggested that the window was struck by anything.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While attempting to use the windshield wipers, they failed to operate. It was diagnosed that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced; however, there were no parts to remedy the defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 27,183.

If it is snowing and the temperature is freezing or below, the wiper blades almost immediately begin to get ice build-up and the windshield also accumulates ice.after further study, it would appear that there is a plastic trim, almost like a water trough, immediately below and forward of the wiper blades.it appears that as the defrost melts the snow, the water is caught in the trough without adequate drainage and the forward movement of the vehicle creates a mist that then blows up onto the wiper blades causing the ice build-up and also can blow mist onto the windshield further complicating the problem.it happens almost immediately and is extremely dangerous making it almost impossible to see.the only option really is to get off the road and stop.looking at earlier models, it appears that a redesign made the trim deeper, and narrower, while the hood was lowered and a ridge put in the middle of the hood.this has apparently changed the aerodynamics and caused this very bad problem.

Thank you.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, a small crack appeared on the front windshield without impact. While driving, the crack expanded from the passengerā€™s side of the windshield to the driverā€™s side. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Driving at about 60 mph and car starting vibrating violently for a few seconds. Continued driving and 10 minutes later same thing for same length of time happened again.

Windshield has cracked twice

My car had an unexpected acceleration when applied the break to park on the parking lot. As a result vehicle went and collided into a restaurant, damaging the restaurant glass wall and front bumper, passenger front wheel/tire of the vehicle.

September, 2019 - i detected a new and distinct sound, along with an odd vibration feeling in my vehicle.it was on the left side, with the vibration seeming to come from the area under my feet as i drive. It started at about 30- 40 mph and did not subside, even when i was not accelerating, or if i used the brakes to slow down some. Both the sound and vibration maintained while i was cruising at that speed or higher. I took the car to my mechanic, who determined that the left rear wheelhub was bad.i had it replace immediately. My vehicle is 5 years old and the mileage was 79364.additional on this vehicle, i just received subaru service program wut-05, a problem with the rear coil springs, which i also experienced in may, 2019.this vehicle has problems i should not be having at this age/mileage. Theses are safety issues as well and need to be addressed by subaru.

Failed rear wheel bearings twice within 20,000 miles. Increasingly loud noise when in motion.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While driving approximately 45 mph, the front passenger wheel shook severely. The vehicle was taken to coconut creek subaru in coconut creek, fl, 888-459-5432, but the failure could not be diagnosed. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Right rear tire blowout on interstate 40 while driving 70 mph.yokahama tire was shredded by time i pulled over to side of road.tires only had 15,600 miles on them.if not for all wheel drive, i might not be here to write this. After looking at consumer affairs site with many pictures similar to mine of shredded yokahama tires, i replaced all with michelin.tire size was 2256017 which has not been recalled but should be.i have pictures of shredded tire.

The contact owns a 2014 subaru forester. While the vehicle was parked, the contact observed that the rear passenger side tire was extremely worn down, but the other tires had no issues. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed an alignment. The rear passenger tire and front driver and passenger tires were replaced, and the vehicle received an alignment; however, the issue recurred six months (approximately 8,000 miles) later. The contact stated that the vehicle had been equipped with several different types of tires. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on several occasions, but no issues were found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

Heard deep rumble while driving in may 2021 thought it may be start of muffler or exhaust problem but subaru service said it is rear hub bearings. Service says there may be danger of tire falling off while driving.

While the vehicle was in motion, i heard an unusual sound and felt vibration under the rear portion of the drivers floor mat.this was most noticeable at speeds 40 and above, on both highway and side roads. It occurred both when accelerating and when coasting.diagnosis by mechanic resulted in left rear wheel bearings/hubs being replace 9/27/19. This was reported on complaint #11320955.then on 6/18/20, the same thing occurred, with sound and vibration on the right side of the vehicle.the right rear wheel bearings/hub was replaced.i am very lucky that i did not miss or ignore this sound and have an issue with the vehicle while it was in motion. I am very concerned about the front wheels at this time, as it seems it may happen with them also.

When make turns in moving(backward or forward), there is noisy(click) in front wheel suspension
