Vehicle driven by daughter.45 mph road.two (2) vehicles in front of her.1st vehicle made an abrupt right turn, causing vehicle #2 to abruptly decrease (braking) speed, which cause vehicle #3 (scion) driver to react quickly and brake.during braking, all four (4) wheels locked and vehicle skidded straight forward.angle of skid shows both wheels sides were straight with an approximate two (2) to three (3) degree angle offset to the right; may be due from curvature of the road.both skid marks were completely solid and both tracks were in a straight line.upon front end impact with vehicle #2 in front of the scion, the following issues are of concern:1. Front driver and front passenger airbags did not deploy.not know if impact (deceleration) was high enough to activate.however, visual inspection of vertical sensor support beams (both left and right) are significantly displaced and bent.2. Seat belt restraint system (front - driver and passenger):the seat belt restraint system appeared not to function as designed.according to the driver and passenger, both were wearing their seat belts.upon impact, the driver's lower body propelled forward and her knees impacted the lower dash assembly.additionally, her upper body was propelled forward, the seatbelt did not lock, and then braced herself with hands and arms to prevent her head from striking the steering wheel.additionally, the right front passenger experience the same propelling of lower and upper body with out the seat belt locking.he also had to brace himself from striking the dash.called scion corporation headquarters on 14 september and opened a new case; stating exactly wasstated above.thank you for what your agency does and any assistance you can provide.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6.

Takata recall - i have tried to get my airbag replaced at the dealer and they won't schedule a time to get it repaired, they say they don't know when they will be able to replace the air bag after multiple requests. I'm personally worried because my car is 7 years old and i live in dallas tx., we have extremely hot summers here. The inflators degrade over time in hot climates.

Takata recall. Recall notice was received in january 2017 for passenger airbag. The recall directed that the passenger seat not be used. When calling toyota to ask about a tentative time frame for a remedy a toyota representative informed me that a remedy will not be available until about september 2017. I appreciate that this is a massive recall across the country. However, i am a one car owner and regularly need to use of the passenger seat. I have no recourse but to use the car. I am a volunteer worker and cannot afford a rental for a week, let alone 6 months. How am i to drive safely in this circumstance? what happens if the airbag deploys due to an accident because i had no choice but to use the passenger seat? the toyota representative informed me that loaner vehicles are not being provided with this recall. However, in the "frequently asked questions" document (copy attached) published on october 13, 2016, with a revision date of march 10, 2017, page 4, question 9, it states "if this recommendation is not feasible for the customer's personal or business needs, alternative transportation may be made available." what must one do to qualify? i do not feel safe driving as things currently stand.
Takata inflators.i just took my scion in to the dealership for an oil change and two recalls.they fixed the one recall for the master window switch, which was great.however, i was informed that they are not aware of any future date that the air bag would be available.their remark was that it was only the passenger side, not to worry, driver is ok.also in the recall letters i received, it was suggested that i "not have someone in the passenger seat".the problem is that i do have passengers, and some of the time the passenger is me.i live in florida, high temperatures and humidity.i travel to texas, also higher temperatures and humidity.my car is now 8 years old so it is getting up in the danger zone as described in the recall letter.why is toyota not being made to replace the vehicles if they can not repair them.this is worse than the lemon law where dealers are made to replace a vehicle if it is deemed "a lemon".

Takata recall. I received a notice to not use the front passenger seat until a remedy becomes available. A toyota customer service rep informed me that the company had no idea when a remedy might be available. I is unacceptable that i can't use the front passenger seat of my vehicle indefinitely. Takata recall (nhtsa recall no 16v-340 i received this subject recall 07/23/2016 advising me not to drive this car with any occupant in the passenger side seat as it could cause death or injury. I have called thesparks toyota , the dealer i purchased the car from to disconnect the passenger side air bag. The dealer stated toyato will not permit them to disconnect the passenger air bag. I am 83 years old and have driven vehicles without seat belts since 1948 to 1962. I drove vehciles with only seat belt protection until the late 1980s. I perfer to drive my scion with only sealbelt protection for the passenger then to have the occupant killed or seriously injuryed via a exploding airbag.i paid good money to buy a safe vehicle from sparks and toyato and i expect them to follow my instructions to save my occuptants life which is me as i will not let my wife sit in the death seat with a defective air bag. You and toyota are guessing when the airbag degrades in my scion because you do not have the facts to make that estimate when my air bag may explode.my scion is black and i live 2 blocks from the ocean. Inside the vehicle the temperature is excess 180 degrees in the summer. There is so much moisture in the air that metal paint cans or other metals in the garage rust due to the salt moist air. So nhtsa nor takata have no idea if the air bag in my vehicle is safe or not while operating in the environmental conditions my vehicle is subject to!!!!!you should direct toyota to disconnect my air bag as soon as possible to make it safe to drive untill the airbag is replaced.
Traveling north on i-75 in independence twp, mi south of ortonville rd at 10:55am in a snow storm, driver used the passing lane to overtake a slow moving vehicle in the center lane. Accelerating to 70mph, driver began to merge back into center lane but encountered a heavy buildup of slush between lanes and began to loose traction. Vehicle started to veer to the right. Driver removed foot from the accelerator and turned wheel slightly to the left to correct the skid but the electronic stability control engaged and the vehicle immediately entered into a rapid 360 degree spin to the right. No other vehicle was struck. Driver recovered from the spin momentarily and car was facing northbound between the center and right lanes but still veering to the right. The front wheels contacted dry pavement while the rear wheels were on wet pavement causing the vehicle to make a sharp right turn head on into the guard rail at 60 mph. The guard rail gave way and the front end of the vehicle sustained heavy damage. However the vehicle rebounded and remained in the road way, sliding sideways and eventually spinning another 270 degrees after again striking the guard rail. The initial high speed impact with guard rail appears to have ignited the sodium azide as evidenced by a gunpowder like odor in the vehicle however no airbags deployed. Additionally, the seatbelt while properly fastened did not retract and restrain the driver. The seatbelt extended all the way out and remained in this position. This made it difficult to control the vehicle and caused the driver to impact the steering wheel when the guardrail was struck. This resulted in injury to the right side of the rib cage, with possible hairline fractures to the ribs, torn muscles, and bruising of the liver. Driver's head also impacted the ceiling. Upon second guardrail impact, driver's left arm impacted the steering wheel.

Takatarecall: some months ago i made an appointment for the dealer to fix the car reference the recall.at the time i made sure they knew i was a senior citizen and need a loaner car... It was agreed they would call prior to my appointment time to assure me a loaner car would be available...no call.... When i called them again they said the would call... Well, as of 5/29..still no call
Takata recall. There is no part available to fix my car.i requested a loaner car and was told that the local dealership in orlando would take my 2009 scion and park it in an "unguarded unfenced lot" with no protection from the extreme fl heat and weather. In addition, the dealership would not start or service the motor for approx. 6 months (when the part "might" be available). If the motor/car is damaged, the dealership told me that they are not liable fix it. If the car is stolen, they are also not liable!these are unacceptable conditions. Toyota is not authentically offering a solution to this life threatening recall. First, there is no part available to fix it! then, toyota knows that the consumer will not take a loaner under the conditions that their personal vehicle will be kept under. It's a scam! we the consumer are forced to drive cars that have recalls that killed several people by metal projectiles slicing throats and causing head and brain injuries! why is toyota getting away with this?
Air bags did not deploy on our 2009 xb release series 6.0. One car was traveling at 45-50 miles and the xb was going at about 15 miles per hour, no air bags deployed. Emergency personnel commented on why the air bags did not deploy.

Takata recall.i received notice of the recall of my front passenger airbag inflators. The advice in the letter is to not allow any occupants in the front seat until the remedy becomes available. It has been more than 7 months and there is still not a remedy available. Please investigate - i need my car fixed and safe!
Takata recall - this recall for the passenger side airbag was issued in january 2017.i have been calling to find out when we can get the vehicle repaired.it is now may, and there is still not a remedy available.we need to have a passenger in that seat because we use this vehicle for work purposes.

Takata recallwaiting on a fix... Waiting...
Takata recalli was notified several months ago of the airbag recall, but there is still no remedy available. This is causing a significant inconvenience to me, as i am unable to carry passengers in my front seat. I am also unable to participate in the class-action lawsuit against takata because i have not been eligible to have the problem repaired.

Takata inflators and window recall. My complaint is i have two active recalls on my scion xb, one dating back to 2015, with scion/toyota not being able to fix either recall. In january 2017 i got a letter about the defective airbag that stated do not let anyone ride in passenger seat. This is a family car, my only family car, i cannot indefinetly not have passangers in my car. The 2015 recall involves a window issue that can cause a fire. The windows work but squeaks and has rub marks on the glass. Toyota has had ample time to fix both issues. How long has this airbag problem been? several years at least and now the airbag manufacturer has gone bankrupt. I paid for a fully functioning car yet i can't put anyone in the passenger seat?!?!
Takata recalli was notified by toyota that my vehicle was affected with this recall over 6 months ago and have not heard anything else. I am a single mother with an 11 & 13 year old and am paranoid of letting them ride in the passenger seat.this is my only vehicle and need to know when can they resolve this problem/make repairs on the air bags. I live in south florida, high humidity, high heat. Please help.thank you.
Takata recall - no word yet from toyota on a remedy for this.
Takata recall -my daughter hit a parked car and over corrected making the vehicle flip. No airbags deployed. My daughter had a cut on her head, huge bump on forehead, black eye, huge bump on top of her head. Her passanger fractured three finger and had her nails ripped off. She will be having surgery. We had the passenger air bag replaced due to the takata recall in november.
Takata recall - i went to trade in my scion xb and was notified that there was a recall on the airbag and no remedy is available.since the recall is from may 2016 i have concerns about when this will be remedied. I am "stuck" with the scion and cannot sell until this is resolved.is there a time frame for the resolution?is there any recourse for toyota as this is now causing a financial strain in purchasing a new vehicle, not having this the ability to trade in this vehicle for the purchase of a new vehicle?any information is greatly appreciated.

Takata recall- the mfr has failed to take care of this in a timely manner- received notice of recall almost 6 months ago and still have not found a solution- i am driving an unsafe vehicle and they need to fix it.
Takata inflators: on june 9th, 2016 i received a letter from toyota giving notice of the air bag recall. It has been approximately 8 months since i received this notice "recommending that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat". After a approximately three of months i began calling the dealer ship every month or so checking on the recall. They just keep saying they are still working on a fix and i am supposed to receive another letter when the remedy is available. I called toyota customer experience center also receiving about the same info. In my opinion this has gone on way too long and toyota should be reimbursing their costumers for their inconvenience of not being able to fully utilizetheir vehicles during this time period.

The takata brand air bags were recalled some time ago and i have not gotten any notice from toyota about any replacement time or product. I am aware that it is a 30 minute job but i need it replaced before my life is endangered.
Takata recall - toyota has failed to remedy this defect within a reasonable time. The dangerous issue with takata airbags has been known for a long time and toyota should be forced to replace the front airbags that are equipped with defective inflators. Toyota sent a notice out on 1/9/2017; however, it did not include a replacement remedy.
Takata recall:why is there no remedy after jan 2017 recall announcement.this model was recalled earlier in other states.there should be a remedy by now.we cannot use the passenger seat, why have a car if you can't sit someone in it!!!please let us know why there is no remedy at this time.an inflator is not rocket science.i cannot even buy a new airbag myself to have installed.

I received a recall notice dated in may advising that the front passenger airbag needed to be repaired and was deemed to be unsafe.it was recommend that we do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat.it is now almost 7 months later and i have contacted toyota and was told they do not have an estimated turn around time for repairs.i think that this time frame for repair is unreasonable as we are advised not to transport passengers.

"takata recall"we received our recall warning on the passenger airbag and the solution for now is not to sit in the passenger seat. We have called several times and have a case number (1609063378).we were told there is not current solution and there is not any information as to when the part(s) will be available. This is one of our main means of transportation and driving around like chauffeur and passenger is getting very tedious. We recently had death of our family and had to travel out of town in our dodge truck. Only to find out upon returning home, the dodge truck has a recall on the passenger airbag, too. Now, both vehicles are waiting for parts.when we contacted the scion dealership, we were told that upon emergencies, we could possibly get a loaner for travel, which is very inconvenient . We want some answers, that is, when will a solution be found and how long is it going to take for the parts to get to the dealership. We both are senior citizens, have our medical issues and we do not need the stress of this issue.
Takata recall.received safety recall notice (interim notice) over a year ago.contacted toyota 3/16, and again 8/17 and was told "parts not available" for repair.why is it taking so long for toyota to correct a dangerous recall?
Had someone pull out in front of me when i was traveling. Unable to stop in time even after locking up the brakes. Was doing apprx. 42 mph hitting the truck, impact with both vehicles traveling apprx 25 yards into the ditch. My airbags did not deploy at all. None of the airbags. Luckily my seat belt did the job to protect me. Was escorted by ambulance to local hospital.

Takata airbags. I've called for the recall and they told me i have to wait.so if i crash with my children and airbags deploy it won't matter because they aren't ready. I live in arizona where it's hot and humid both conditions they said would make the airbag worse.
Takata recall -- recalled in 5/2016, but no dealership has the parts/ability to fix my potentially deadly airbags yet? is that legal??

I purchased a new 2009 scion xb on 17 july 2009.i immediately noticed the "warning buzzer" associated with key in ignition, seat belt warning, lights on, and door ajar was inaudible.i returned the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the "buzzer" was very quiet and there was nothing that could be done.the mechanic could not even find it.on 27 july 2009, i called scion customer service and they informed me that the "warning buzzer" was indeed quiet and there was nothing they could do about it.i consider the 'warning buzzer" to be an important part of the safe operation of the vehicle and scion's response was unwarranted.
To much consumption of oil.
Intermittent panel lights come on including battery, slip indicator, vsc, abs and sometimes lose speedometer while driving. Has been going on for about a year. Have replaced battery and alternator. Dealership and several car repair places don't know what is going on. Also, one time at night while driving, the headlights would dim intermittently. The car mechanics say that my car is tracking good. I have 175,441 miles on my scion. Sometimes everything is fine for days, then lights will blink or stay on for an extended amount of time.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota scion xb. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact noticed that the warning chime for the seat belt would not sound if the seat belts were unbuckled; he stated that it was not loud enough. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who told him that the vehicle was designed that way. The manufacturer had not been notified. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 10 and the current mileage was approximately 13,500.
The scion xb 2009 was driving on the highway, at speed limit, 10 miles after the "needs maintenance" oil light came on. After 15 minutes, the car made a loud bang noise which we think came from the engine.after the bang, car pulled over. Another car pulled over too, since a piece of flaming debris from my car came out from underneath and broke that car's windshield. That driver indicated that my scion was on fire and to get out of the car! ~5 seconds later the first of many explosions happened. The car quickly, within one minute, became completely engulfed in flames. By the time the fire department arrived the car was "fully engaged" (100% burning). It is a total loss.
I took the vehicle to my dealership because i have four warning lights illuminated, they were brake, traction control, abs, vsc. The dealer diagnosed the problem to be the right rear and left rear abs sensors and cables with a replacement cost os $1357.04 plus diagnostic fee of $59.66. I asked why the sensors were defective and needed replacement, they told me it was due to corrosion from road salt. This seems like a manufacturing issue!! i've seen a scion service bulletin (s-sb-0040-09 dated july 6, 2009) that addresses this issue. I have asked the dealer and scion if they could help me out in any way and they're answer was no. I realize my car is our of warranty but why should an owner of a vehicle have to spend $1400.00 to replace components that the manufacture has since corrected the design due to this problem?
The issue i am having with my vehicle is the traction control.there is no way to disable it permanently.i have contacted the manufacturer several times to resolve this issue but they were unable to help.the intersection exiting my neighborhood is often busy and occasionally there is loose sand and gravel at the exit.at times, to cross the intersection safely, i will need to step on the accelerator a little more than usual.if my tires so happen to be sitting on a patch of loose sand or gravel, the traction control will activate when i accelerate.this cuts the power from my engine and instead of briskly crossing the intersection, my car, at a snails pace, crosses the intersection.the more time my vehicle spends in the intersection, the greater chance of an accident.the power is cut for too long in my opinion and i feel that my vehicle would be much safer without it.a little spin of the my tires would occur when i'm on the loose sand and gravel but once on normal pavement, it would be business as usual.with the traction control activated, there is a delay and once on normal pavement, it still has reduced power.the car does allow the driver to turn off the traction control at a stop but it reactivates after reaching a certain speed.i do not always know when i happen to stop on a patch of loose sand and gravel and i won't always remember to turn off the traction control at every stop.
2009 scion xb. Almost empty by the next oil change.it took a while to realize after years of oil changes that by the time it was time for the next oil change, the engine was almost without oil. This went on for years. I took the car to the dealer to perform a test. The dealer performed a test and stated that it was normal for this vehicle to use 1 qt per thousand miles. I then asked him how many quarts does the car have. He answered about 5. If the oil changes are every 5k miles then the engine has no oil by the next oil change. He stated that was toyotas rule. I took the car a second time and they stated know i have a leak that wasn't there during the first test. I believe the leak was caused by the engine running on so little oil.

The contact owns a 2009 scion xb. While in traffic, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to shift the gear into neutral and restart the vehicle. The contact drove to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The contact called bell road toyota at (602) 863-0600 (located at 2020 w bell rd, phoenix, az 85023) and was informed to schedule an appointment for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired due to the diagnostic and repair fees. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
My vehicle consume more than 2 quarts of oil per oil change that means my car takes an extra 2 quarts of oil every 3000 miles my engine literally burns the oil there is no leak
The 2az-fe engine in my 2009 scion xb consumes oil at very high rate. The low engine light comes on at about 2500 miles during mixed city/highway driving. I went to a local dealer and they confirmed the oil consumption. Corporate toyota told them not to repair the engine as the time for the recall expired. I bought the vehicle new and was never notified of a problem. If the engine seized while driving it may cause serious injury or death. There are many complaints online about different toyota/scion cars with this this particular engine.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to mike bass ford located at 5050 detroit rd, sheffield, oh 44035 (440) 934-3673, for routine maintenance, the contact was informed that the oil level was extremely low. An oil change was performed however, a month later the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was no oil in the engine. There were no oil leaks evident. The contact was referred back to the original dealer who performed the initial oil change. The technician was also unable to find evidence of an oil leak. The vin tool showed no recalls associated with the failure. While driving at an undisclosed speed a month later, there was an abnormal popping sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an unknown mechanic and diagnosed. The contact was informed that due to the oil related failure, a piston went through the cylinder head and that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the engine warranty covered up to 140,000 miles. The contact was then informed that the manufacturer would decide whether or not to replace or repair the engine. The failure mileage was 138,400.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle consumed a massive amount of oil. The contact stated that six quarts of oil was placed in the vehicle, and all of it was consumed in a short period of time. The vehicle was diagnosed as having an oil consumption failure. The vehicle was repaired at a toyota dealer where new pistons and rings were placed in the vehicle but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000. The vin was not available.
Car using one quart of oil every 1100 miles took to toyota twice for oil consumption test, getting complete run around. They probably dont want to replace engine parts as described in scion forum. Between routine oil changes, enough oil had been consumed to cause my engine to seize. I was on the freeway at 65 mph when the engine began to knock and then stopped on the off ramp, unable to move. I had my car at the dealership earlier this year for a recall and they did not notify me of this problem. Adding a quart per 1000 miles would have saved me from destroying my car. I did not receive a letter or other notification for a enhanced warranty.
The engine oil filter adapter does not provide sufficient threads to safely retain the oil filter on the engine imo. The filter on my xb was held on by 2 1/2 threads after it was tightened by 3/4 of a turn. Because of the way the engine housing and filter adapter are machined, the amount of protruding threads that the filter can be assembled onto is uncontrolled and there may be cases where the filter will pop-off while the engine is running, dumping all the oil from the engine. Here are some fixes; (for existing engines) unscrew the adapter so that the filter can be turned on with 4-5 turns before the seal contacts the mating surface and stake it in place.(for future design) provide a positive stop in the housing or adapter so that the correct protrusion of the adapter threads are obtained.issue was found and fixed by me without the filter coming off in service, but it did concern me enough to fill out this complaint.this issue may apply to other toyota vehicles with the 2.4l i4 engine.

I've owned two scion xbs (2008 & 2009). In extremely hot or cold weather the car doors occasionally lock themselves (either when the keys remain in the car floor or when i take them w/me when i get out). I've reported this to my toyota dealer on both cars (when going after a key to unlock the car). Their response is to say such is impossible & they have never heard of any other complaints (i reminded the service rep this was my second visit to him). The latest incident occurred during my return from raleigh during a snow storm.sixty miles from home i stopped to refuel. I exited the car leaving the keys in the ignition (w/engine off). Upon returning from paying for fuel the car was again locked. Not wanting to brake a window to gain access, i called my son to bring my extra key from home. Thankfully i had a warm gas station in which to wait. While this isn't a gas pedal sticking or failing brakes, it does i believe speak to the over-all safety concerns relating to toyota as a worldwide manufacturer.please remember, the scion is totally manufactured and assembled in japan (not by the u.s. Work force).

I drive a 2009 scionxb. At least six times since i bought it in late 2008, i have had trouble with sudden unintended acceleration. At all times thecarwas moving less than 30 miles an hour. It occurred once while slowing down for a light about to go green. I still made a soft hit on the car in front. A second time it happened while easing up to the immigration booth on the queenston-lewiston bridge to canada. I again made of soft hit on the car in front. I did not slip off the brakes, although i was initially willing to accept that responsibility.last month i took my car to where i bought it, hoselton auto mall in east rochester, ny. I was told that the mechanics had driven it twice and found nothing wrong. I was given the impression that i was an hysterical female though no one came out and said it. And this model has not been reported to be in need of recall byv toyota. I have to drive it. I can't afford to take the loss of selling it and the dealership made me feel that it was nothing within their venue, so it must be my fault. I've been very luck but i have also become more than a little scared.i want to be on record with your department if, god forbid, anything else of this nature occurs.

1)defective product. 2)passengerseat (back rest)does not retract from reclined position to upright position. Passenger has to exit the vehicle and lift the back rest by hand to straighten it up. All 2009 scions-xbs have the same problem! 3) toyota claims thatis how they designed this car,and cannot (will not) do anything to remedy this problem! i have comparedthis year's model to earlier models and they all function normally. We have exchanged several e-mails and phone calls with toyota/scion customer representatives, and had car at the dealer, their response was the same its the design. My opinion is that is a defective product, since there is no other vehicle make and model with the same problem!
Scion xb 2009 the driver seat has two wires poking out from the back seat. I have googled this issue and found others are experiencing the same thing.the two wires are very strong and cannot be pushed back into the seat.the two wires are also very very sharp.i have cut myself on it and my child have cut themselves on it.this very dangerous warrenty has expired but i feel that the seats should be recalled as they pose a huge danger to passengers.i have no idea how this would affect us if we did get into an accident.could an impact cause this wires to come through and injure the passenger behind?
The contact owns a 2009 scion xb. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered and vibrated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. When attempting to make a complete stop, the vehicle would continue to roll before stopping. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake system failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle burned four quarts of oil within 3,500 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that it needed to undergo an oil consumption test. After the test, the dealer stated that the engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was unknown.

I have a huge complaint about the 2009 xb regarding the brake system, i ve take the vehicle to toyota back in 4/2011 complaining of the brake system, after having the vehicle inspected i was told nothing was wrong, as i am driving normal speed limit, as i start to brake slowing coming to a stop sign, the brakes seem to not brake properly, i've notice this since i brought the vehicle back in as if though i have to push hard on the brake in order for the vehicle to come to a full stop, also i notice right away when i brought the vehicle back in 6/2012 the pedal is set to low on the gas pedal, when i push on the gas pedal, i've notice that i have to step up more forward on the pedal in order to get a good take off cause if not thecar will kinda give a kick backon me as if those i'm not giving it enough gas to take off. And now i've notice when pulling the vehicle in reverse letting it reverse on it own without pressing the break it make a loud noise and front tire on driver side makes the same noise once in a while when i came to a complete stop and then same days it doesn't do that at all,i've had the brakes checked out again back in 4/3/12they had been checked.
Keep getting recals in the mail my cars hoold latch wont stay so i risk daily the potential to have it fly up and smash my windshield, also burns threw too oil, interior lights dont work for the heating ac area umm if u close the gas cap cover completly as required it fuems up the inside the car makes u sick feelng my airbags are alarming at random times when u wouldmt expect it to or never stop even when u click in seat belt and the o2 sensor is a consistamt replacement thats gettimg annoying to fix or replace

Abs,parkingbrake, traction control, vertical stability lights came on and nose in the car. In same time completely disable abs and vertical stability systems. Lights disappeared later for a week and came back on. Over the time this cycle appears more frequently sometimesbefore lights appear i lost ability to brake a vehicle till i fully release a brake pedal. Brought to toyota dealer they said i have to change 2 rear hub assembles, because of sensors, some corroded wires and computer. Their estimate was almost 15% of the price of band new car. I had to give my car to my relative who works for volvo dealer. One of my rear wheel bearing were bad we replace with genuine toyota part. While we repair we saw wire connection which goes to rear sensor were corroded and sensor connection were also corroded because of water damage which can leak though this type of connection. The hub we had replace of amount of corrode hub connection broke. New hub did not fix the problem so another sensor is also corrode even if the wheel bearing is good. One more thing the abs sensor is a part of hub assembly and could not be replace itself. I talk to toyota representative and she said all those fixes are out my pocket. Even if i am original owneranother problem i have the vehicle it locks itself. Before i thought kids playing with keys but few times happen when keys in my hand, i open the car and it keeps lock itself for quit amount of times. One time it locks with keys inside the car on 90 degree day with baby on board. No police were involved because inside the car was older child who can unlock the car manually.
The contact owns a 2009 scion xb. Whenever the contact drove the vehicle over 50 mph he noticed that the vehicle would slightly sway from the left and right causing the vehicle to occasionally veer into another lane. The contact also noticed that the steering wheel made a clanking sound whenever the vehicle traveled over a rough terrain. Whenever the vehicle was driven after a cold start the brakes made a grinding noise for the first 5 minutes. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for each failure, however the contact was informed that none of the failures could be reproduced or serviced. The contact has noticed the failures since the day he purchased the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 26500.
On 12/08/09 i took my 09 scion xd (your form does not have xd option) into hoselton for the recall regarding the braking system. Two days later (12/10/09), i am driving home and approaching a turn off of route 104 travelling about 35 miles per hour (a 55 mph road) when. I had slowed down from a top speed of 45 mph, blowing snow and traffic was slow. I go to hit my brakes - i have no brakes, the pedal goes to the floor. I pump the brakes a eventually get a rough (da,da,da) grab, this combined with down shifting allows me to take my turn. I called hoselton and they will see me asap. However, i could get no straight answer about whether or not it was safe to drive my vehicle. I was told "i you (as in me) don't think it's safe then you should have it towed." at my expense.please provide me any information on the true safety of my cars braking system. And what action i may take if the braking system is not safe.
2009 scion xb toyota release series 6. Abs brakes. Brought car into toyota danbury connecticut a month or more ago they said no problem with abs. Abs do not engage when applied in snow or bad rain.i skid out several times lights/brakes never came on.

I purchased my 2009 scion xd on december 30, 2008. On january 4, 2009, my brakes froze up and i wasn't able to drive my car, it wouldn't budge because the brakes were frozen. I immediately called the dealership where i purchased my car 5 days earlier, markquart toyota in eau claire wi, and spoke to the service manager. He said that there wasn't anything he could do because it wasn't a factory defect. I couldn't go to work that day and my step father, a retired mechanic had to take off my tires and thaw my brakes with a hair dryer... Then 10 months later, i get the recall notice for the brake intake manifold!later on in this report i will select scion xb because xd isn't a choice.
The contact owns a 2009 scion xb. While traveling at speeds of 25 mph, the left caliber began exhibiting an unusual noise and would violently grip the rotor. The vehicle was also abnormally pulling to the left. The dealer advised that the issue was with the tire. The dealer deemed the vehicle as unsafe to drive. The vehicle was left in the dealers possession awaiting repairs. The contact did not agree that the failure was caused by the tires. The failure and current mileages were unavailable. Updated 6/1/10 updated 06/04/10.

My hood latch failed and the secondary safety latch also failed and my hood flew up hitting the windshield and the roof of my car
March 15 my scion xb spontaneously erupted in flames, we on our way home at the intersection of union tpke and parsons blvd in queens ny, we were stopped for construction traffic when the vehicle began to emit smoke, we pulled into a kfc/pizza hut parking lot, , within minutes flames were coming out from the engine compartment, one of the fire fighters thought it was electrical
Hear a humming coming from the rear driver side at 40 to 60 mph , almost sounded like a muffler getting louder rear wheel bearing bad , replacingat $210.00 for wheel bearing .

The sunroof flew off the car on the freeway. It was totally rusted

I purchased a scion 2009 xb for my mom.a few months ago, she complained it accelerated unexpectedly in her driveway.i assumed operator error.she was killed in it two weeks ago when it left the roadway at an extremely high speed and witnesses said it accelerated out of control.she traveled 750 feet after she left the roadway and was severely injured when it hit a very deep drainage ditch.she died the next day.there was no evidence of braking at all but she missed several people and several large trees. The contact owns a 2009 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, she began to decelerate and approximately seven hundred feet later, the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis where the contact was told that she must have accidentally engaged the cruise control. The failure recurred and the vehicle was returned to the dealer where it was found that the battery had been disconnected.the failure recurred but the dealer stated they could not find a cause for the failure. The vehicle also experienced brake failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 39,000.
I was driving in a 35 mph zone, i set my cruise control. When i tapped the cruise control up 1 mph my car accelerated to almost 57 mph. I had to hit the brake to get the cruise control shut off. This happened again about 5 months later, i was on the highway, my car accelerated from 65 mph to 80 mph, i again hit the brakes to shut off the cruise control. This resulted in a speeding ticket, since the officer had no interest in my vehicle trouble.

The (toyota) scion xb has the same accelerator problem, i put in a floor mat on top of the issued floor mat and it has gotten stuck 2 or 3 times on the accelerator, luckily i was able to depress the brake strong enough to get into park and stop the vehicle, the worse case i drove over the island in my parking lot.i have since removed the extra floor mat and have not had a problem with this issue since. I know it's late notice but i just found out about this site.
While at a drive thru and foot firmly on the brake my 2009 scion xb surged by releasing the pressure on the brake, i quickly removed my foot and reapplied pressure and it did it again at a stop light same occurrence.vehicle at both these times was not in motion.i took it to the dealership to ask if problems had been reported as both these instances happened within minutes of each other and they stated to leave the vehicle and they would check it out.however, i told them i needed a car they said service was closed and was unable to provide me with a car in order for me and my family to get home and for work the next day.the dealership was open it was 7:15pm at night but i could not get a loaner car in order for them to properly check my brakes and acceleration issues.i asked them to write down that i had approached them on the subject and they said they would.the next morning while going to work the vehicle was in motion going down a hillside when i applied brake the vehicle slowed as it should but again there was a surge in power and it accelerated and i had to remove my foot quickly from the brake and reapply to bring the vehicle back under control.we are again contacting the dealership today for another proper inspection.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota scion xb. The contact stated she believed the foam that held the front and side windows to the vehicle were designed too wide. The manufacturer advised that he would be sent a letter in regards to his complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000 and the current mileage was approximately 20,000.
