I called toyota about 4 months ago and they said there is no fix for it. And i got another letter today. The passenger side airbag light comes on sometimes for no reason.

Takata recall - received recall notice in march and still no resolution yet.we are told that we can't drive the car with a person in the passenger seat.this is ridiculous that this fix is taking so long.we rely on our car for family transportation and this is preventing us from riding in the car safely.

Tankata recall it's a potentially deadly recall and it is taking toyota 9 almost 10 months to get my car repaired. This should be unacceptable to toyota and the nhsta. I cannot use my passenger seat for 10 months? ridiculous.

Takata recall: pax side airbag. Notified 6 months ago. Use car intermittently to transport elderly father and obese brother, neither of whom can get into the rear seat area. Toyota offered a loaner car, but will not give me a similar model (they want to give me a tiny corolla); and, will require me to turn in my car. If turned in, i can't get my car back until repaired, and, they will leave it outdoors, exposed to hail and sun (texas). This is unacceptable. I am being deprived of the right to use my car in the customary manner in which it is used.

I own a 2008 xband air bags never deployed when hit in passenger front side of carby a deer and back shoulder restraint didn't lock on impact allowed person to hit back of driver seat . After crash motor stayed running but hazard lights wouldn't work and just glad no one was killed. I just want someone to be aware that this could have been a bad outcome and to check out the safety of a vehicle to save lives.i did enjoy my xb lots room and great handling in snow.

We were informed of this recall in august of 2016, and we were advised not to operate the vehicle with a passenger in the front seat. As a family of four, this is extremely inconvenient. It means we can never have an extra passenger, and it means that one adult is always crammed in the back seat with two kids, even on long car trips. We haven't heard a word from toyota since the recall notice, and we're increasingly frustrated, irritated, and unimpressed. By now, toyota should have 1. Kept us updated about fixes, and 2. Offered us a loaner vehicle, since our use of our car is so limited by the recall.

Takata recallbeen waiting for toyota/scion to fix airbag problem since summer of 2016. Last time i talked to them they said poss jan. Just called again jan 24,2017. Now they say they cannot given a time frame. How long are we suppose to wait? feel like its an inconvenience because no one can ride w me in the front passenger seat. Which seems ridiculous when its only me and one other person in the car.

Takata recall: received notice of this recall june 2016, toyota dealer we bought from still cannot make repairs/replace airbags. It is a major danger and inconvenience to not be able to use the vehicle. They and toyota seem un-interested in getting this done and should be held liable for the loss of use. If it cannot be reppaired in a timely manner they should provide a loaner or replacement vehicle.

Driving on u.s 23 in michigan, trying to slow down from 55 mph to 35 due to approaching au gres, mich.could not slow down, started weaving in and out of traffic to avoid cars then turned off engine, took car out of gear, car kept going.the only way the car could be stopped was to hit a tree.the car was totaled.the air bag did not deploy.

Takata recall - recall notice was issued on may, 23 2016 and as of december 10, 2016 no remedy is available from the manufacturer. This is far beyond what should be considered a timely resolution to such a severe safety risk.

Takata recallmy complaint is there is no date as to when the defect regarding the takata airbags will be completed.the recommended resolution from toyota is to not have any one ride in the front passenger seat. This is a huge inconvenience. Is ridiculous to expect my family to continue to do this for some undetermined amount of time. There must be something else done now so i can continue to use my vehicle driving my family and friends as i should be allowed to do without fear of possible injury or death from the airbags.

We cannot safely transport our family in either car now.we need takata to expedite the repairs and provide us with free transportation in a vehicle that does not put our lives at risk.

Maybe its time for a recall!!!

Takata recallthe toyota dealer is refusing to help me locate the part to fix the recall. My car was in zone a and i moved and now i am being told it could take months to get it fixed. I have to drive disable people to work and i can't do my job or ensure the safety of people till this is done.

"takata recall" we received a recall on our takata airbags the day of my accident. I came to a stop on the street and one car was going to make a left hand turn when i was rear ended by another car. Causing damage to me and my passenger. For some reason the airbags did not deploy. Creating a dangerous situation either way. We could've been both severely injured and the fact that they didn't deploy we was still injured. I have never been late on a payment, i bought the full service package for the vehicle and our vehicle was never fixed properly over the course of 6+ months that toyota had the vehicle. No we have a vehicle that we are uncertain about driving because it can harm me, my wife and my son while we are all in the car. We feel that the takata airbags are not in just the passenger side but its on the drivers side and the whole car. So we are still driving in fear. We also have a limited edition scion, 849 of 2500 made in the us.

Takata recallon wednesday, october 19, 2017 at 7:40am, i was driving by myself south bound on alabama street in houston, texas. This street is a two-lane street on each side. I was aware that i was abiding by the speed limit, going around 25-30 miles, because i had just left a stopped traffic light and was heading into school zone that had a flashing warning light.another driver, driving south bound on a cross street of live oak street, ran the stop sign at high speed and crashed into me on the drivers' side of the car. I had seen the car coming and tried to swerve away to the right to not hit her but she was going so fast i could not avoid her. The other driver admitted it was her fault both to myself, the police officer who arrived on the scene and in the accident report. The other drivers insurance has claimed full liability to the accident.the airbag in my car, the 2008 scion xb, did not deploy at all. As you can see in the documentation, it was a direct hit to the driver's side door and was extensive. The damage was so extensive i could not open the door and had to get out of the car on the other side. If i had not been wearing my seat belt, i would have been severally injured. I do not understand why the airbag did not deployi did have to go to the hospital for an examination but was cleared that i had not suffered any major trauma to the head or neck.

Takata recall - my complaint is that i've been told not to use the front passenger seat until the airbag is replaced. I called my toyota/scion dealer and they have no date when the repair can be made but it may be months. So meantime i'm stuck with a car with limited functionality since i can't carry a passenger or even put heavy objects on the seat (as that would activate the airbag). And given this limited functionality and age of car, if i tried to sell it now, under this recall, the resale value is being hurt. I'm not satisfied with the time it is going to take to get my vehicle back to normal. What can be done to make toyota act faster or compensate us for the inconvenience?

Takata recall-received notice of airbag recall in june 2016.it is now february 2017 and on 2/24/2017 i called the hotline to inquire when the problem would be solved.the remedy that the notice gave us was not to have anyone sit in front passenger seat.this has become a problem for us as this is not always possible. I was informed that no remedy has been found yet.since june 2016 i have received numerous mailings from toyota offering to buy back my car at a low price. It seems like toyota wants us to either turn in our car for a new vehicle or wait until the vehicle is too old to fix.when will this problem be resolved.a temporary fix should have been in place when the original notices were sent but that is not the case.i was told that the dealership should give us a loaner.i am sure that this would not be the case especially when no repair is even available.can you please advise when the remedy will become available??

Using excessive oil. I even use the factory recommended weight with full synth. Uses ~2 1/2 quarts per 3000 miles. No smoke. No visible leak.

Takata recalli received a recall notice in the mail june 2016.a year later i have still not have a fix for this recall.this is my primary car and i have to drive my kids in this car.my daughter is now a new driver and she has to drive this car.the recall states " until the remedy becomes available we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat.this is not an option for me and my family.i have to have someone in the front passenger seat as we are a family of four.i do not feel safe with me or my kids in this car and i think a year is plenty of time to have afix.i am very unhappy that toyota has not had a fix for this problem.

Takata recall. I received notice sometime around june/july 2016 of the airbag recall. I have been calling toyota of northbrook, the dealer we purchased the car from, and they have been unable to provide any information as to when this air bag will be repaired. We are planning a trip in august 2017 and need either to have the airbag replaced or a loaner at no cost for the trip.

Takata recallwas notified of airbag defect in july 2016.it is january 2017 and no replacement or solution has been offered.recall recommendation was to have unoccupied passenger front seat until airbag is fixed.this is a major inconvenience for a family vehicle.a call to toyota this morning resulted in no eta for the fixing of this part.this is absolutely unacceptable.

"takata recall". I received the toyota recall notice and warning about the takata recall on 2/13/17. I have called toyota and the dealer they are unable to give me a reasonable time when my car will be repaired. I am told that they are focusing on cars in the south where the humidity impacts are greater. I have had my car in the humid south. I am very nervous driving the car. Can you help me get it fixed?

I receive a recall letter for my air bag. I took the car to the toyota dealership about five months a go and was told that i have to wait for toyota to send me a notification.ihave not receive any notification from them. I think that five monthto wait for them to fix a problem that can result in serious injury or death is unacceptable.

Takata recal as a uber driver there needs to be a replacement available now not years past i am demanding toyota pay a portion of my car payment till the recall is fixed !!

I was in an accident involving front end damage only (i.e. I left the roadway and struck a tree in the area of the grill of my vehicle, while attempting to avoid a deer).the airbags failed to deploy. I was a properly restrained driver of this vehicle with no occupants, as i was on my way to my place of employment. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. I was transported to the hospital by pov by an off duty psp trooper.i lost time at work, and experienced a low back injury, as well as had to replace my vehicle.

Takata recall: i got a safety recall on m car for the passenger side air bag, i am not able to drive my car because i have a family of 5. The dealership has had my car since the end of july 2016, they have been nice enough to provide me a rental, however they have had my car for 8 months now, what is going on? i am making car payments on a vehicle that i am not able to drive. What is going to be done about this? i think i needthe dealership to give me a new car and give me what i have paid into my car for the last 8 months, on top of what the vehicle is worth private party. Why is this taking so long? this is not my fault for the safety recall.

Takata recall. We have 3 company scions that have had a recall for over six months. Toyota still hasn't called us to have the air bags replaced. When we call, they say their out of stock. I would like them to buy back these vehicles, as it is effecting our company business! the vin's are [xxx], [xxx], [xxx]. I just received 2 more scion recalls for a total of 5 vehicle in our fleet where we can't take a client or passenger out. I have 7 more scions that i'm sure will be on the recall list, which they are slow to send out and could cost lives!!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The safety recall notice from toyota had been received in may of 2016. It statedthat recall had been issued for takata front passenger airbag inflator. It highly recommended do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat due to danger of inflator rupture during airbag deployment. This rupture can happened any time due to degradation of the propellant in these inflators after prolonged exposure to high humidity and fluctuating temperatures. Seven months later there still no remedy had been issued.i made two phone calls to toyota customer center. First time in october 2016 and second in january 2017 and still did not get any reasonable answers on when this recall would be fixed for our vehicle. Our family just as many others are experiencing extreme inconvenience due to this recall and toyota has not showed any empathy and/or ability of trying to fix this problem. It takes a very long and unreasonable amount of time.

I was involved in an auto accident when someone pulled out in front of me and i hit the front end of the car that pulled out. Aprox 35-40 mph. The airbag never deployed and i hit the roof and bent the steering wheel with the impact of my body. Police arrived and i was transported to the hospital via ambulance. My 2008 scion xb received substantial damage in the amount of $12,000. No airbags deployed in the accident and this concerns me.

"takata recall" it ia about a year from the recall. Owners were called to avoid using passenger seat instead, otherwise any person there would dead . So i became "uber" driver?how can guarantee the safety of my family seating in front? the car now is just for 4 passengers....for ayear...we need a solution, i can not even sell the car like that....

The ecu went bad , when i went over the high way all lights come up and the power steering stop working and the brakes light went up and the

Brake, abs, vsc & trac warning lights on all the time. Excessive corrosion in passenger side rear hub sensor connector that corroded electrical contacts inside connector. Toyota dealer was aware of this problem but stated there was no recall and also toyota was not paying for out of warranty repair. This should be a safety recall.

Car parked and dashboard electrical unit caught on fire, the car was engulfed in flames within 3 minutes.fire department has a real concern with this make/model they responded within 3 minutes and the car was gone.if my son was in the car while it was on fire he would not have had a chance to get out.that is how fast the car fire spread.the vehicle had all original factory components (radio, speakers, etc.)there is a serious problem in the electrical part of the vehicle.since this was an isolated incident toyota does not want to do a "forensics analysis" on the vehicle because it "costs too much money" and they do not want to invest their resources into a single isolated freak incident.i was told by toyota's total loss dept representative "that it was just not worth it to them to investigate".

Scion xb 2008. Great so far 9000mi. No defects. This is a design flaw. Lights do not shut off when key is turned off. Very low warning beep to remind.i can't remember last vehicle i owned that did not shut with key.

I was driving at 20mph off a ramp onto another road and the steering locked up and i had to jam on my brakes to stop my car fast or the car would have went off the side down a hill and crashed.thank god i was not going fastor i wouldn't be here. That was the first time here we go again 2nd time after i fix it replaced the steering computer behind the steering wheel under the dash, worked great for about a day,now i start the car the power steering light on dash comes on iput the car in drive and the lightgoes out but i have steering.put the car in neutral light comes on,put the car in reverse light goes out.im so pissed off about this i still owe money on this car and nothing but trouble.what kind of cars do toyota sell. They should pay for these steering problems not me.there should be a recall before someone gets killed.

My wife and i bought a scion/toyota expecting better reliability. While my wife was in a parking lot the steering light came on and lost power assist. She was unable to drive the car in this condition. It is going to be a fairly costly repair. It is unfortunate toyota has not done something to help its customers. Due to the fact it is a known problem with a high failure rate.

While driving down the road all of these lights came on. The lights on are the brake light, the abs. The skid control, and the vsc. These lights came on during the winter and went back out several times. During january they came on and have not gone out sense. When i purchased the car the car fax report had said that the car had been in for a electrical problem previously. I am unsure if it is causing any problems but wonder if there are any safety problems connected with these lights.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. While making a right turn at approximately 15 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver and the vehicle stalled without warning. In addition, the contact mentioned that the windshield wipers operated independently. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. While driving the wires sparked then abs light came on then fire started the whole half of carwas burnt by the time fire department and police arrived. Fire department was able to control fire thewhole front was melted i waslucky to make it outof the car a live every thing happened very quickly.

I my 2008 toyota scion xb into shop for its 30k checkup.had to bring the car back to marina del rey dealership for failing to put bolt back onto bottom of car.at the time told the dealer of problem with radio, intermittant power problem (radio would cut out), static, speaker problems.was told that the car was driven around and had no problem.2 months later fire started in the electrical harness area and burned the car to the ground.

After purchasing my car i had to bring in to be serviced due to static speakers.the back speakers were replaced but that was not the last problem i would have with them.a few months later my ipod jack went up in smoke and melted my ipod.the service center had to special order the ipod jack and cable which took 30 days to arrive. After replacing said parts i tried them out.they did not function properly and i was told that was the best they could do.a few more months later when i went to turn up the volume on the radio it sent i shock through my finger and out the speaker that my legs as well as my boyfriends were next to.after the shock every speakers started emitting static and i had no choice but to turned the whole radio off.i brought the car in and was sent out the door with no resolution b/c the service center could not duplicate the problem.2 months went by and the shocking and static happened again.i brought the car in while the issue was present and they tried to sent me home until i begged an associate to please sit in the car and experience what my family and i had.the minute he touched the radio he was shocked and the speakers turned to static.due to this safety hazard i was given a rental and my car is currently at the service center awaiting repair.however, they do not know where to start and informed my that i should be entitled to a replacement or refund which is the step i am working on now.

We had a 2008 scion x b we took it to stevens auto mall on farmington ave bristol ct on to separate occasions complaining of a burning smell i was told that it was a new car smell and it would go away with mileage. It had 39 miles when we bought on 1-27-2008 and on 5-25-2008 it caught fire and only had 5500 miles on it. When i went back to the dealer to get copies of the work orders, the first thing they said when they saw me was what was wrong with scion and i told them it was up in smoke and totaled by my insurance company.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, all of the service lights on the instrument panel began to illuminate and the electronic power assist failed. As a result, the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, where it stalled. The vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer, where the contact was informed that the battery died. The battery was replaced. The failure recurred approximately two months later. The vehicle was not yet taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000. The vin was unavailable.

After a snowstorm, my abs, vsc, stability control and traction control lights came on. Stayed on.took to mechanic, they went out. He suspects ice build up.ran scan.it shows right rear wheel sensor problem.lights come on intermittently.son's car is in shop for gm ignition recall for over a month now. So he drove my scion to college.called me and said lights were on again.i called mechanic, he feels it could be wheel bearing or speed sensor in that wheel, either rust or corrosion due to intermittent lights.he checked it again.now vsc and traction lights are on anytime car is drive.i am taking it in today for wheel bearing replacement. After reading multiple complaints on this site, i am very upset and disappointed in what i thought was my dream car!!!toyota needs to issue a recall and fix this problem immediately!

Vehicle's rear wheel speed sensor connectors get corroded by road salt, resulting in failure of car's computer to register speed of rear wheels. Therefore, the anti-lock braking system and vehicle stability control may not function correctly in snowy conditions.toyota released a technical service bulletin regarding this issue and corrected the design flaw on later scion xb models.(s-sb-0040-09 july 6, 2009).

The arm where the windows go up and down on the driver side just caught on fire i was driveing down the street still smell smoke in my car i need some help please i paid 30000 for this car

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. While the vehicle's engine was running with the key in the ignition, the doors independently locked without warning. When the ignition key was removed and the contact exited the vehicle, the doors independently locked without warning with her grandchild in the vehicle. The contact called the police to unlock the doors. The contact called a local toyota dealer where an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and the dealer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

The initial incident occurred while driving the vehicle on partially snow covered pavement.as i applied the brakes to stopat an intersection, the vehicle began to skid.the vehicle stability control and abs systems did not work, and the brake, abs and vsc lights came on.the warning lights remained on for approximately one day as i continued to drive.after the warning lights turned off, they remained off for approximately two weeks, then the abs and vsc systems failed again and the lights came back on.this problem occurs fairly regularly, six to eight times per year.i was quoted a cost of around $1200 to replace the rear hub assemblies and wiring harness replaced, with no guarantee that would solve the problem.

I called toyota about 4 months ago and they said there is no fix for it. And i got another letter today. The passenger side airbag light comes on sometimes for no reason.

After around 50k miles, i noticed that the engine oil was about a quart low when taking it in for an oil change. At the time i was told pretty much what the owners manual states about oil consumption. I've owned many vehicles in the past, old and new, and never had one that used this much oil. If any of them did use oil, it was a small enough amount that you can't tell from the dipstick.so, with their explanation i moved on. As time went on, it seemed more and more oil was being used by the engine. Now after the warranty would no longer cover such a thing, i was told that i could bring the vehicle in for an oil consumption test, which i did not do since any problem they discover would come out of my pocket.as time progresses, the vehicle is at the point where i have to check the oil every week and add oil. I learned that if i wait for the next oil change @ 3000 miles, there is no oil left in the engine. What's even more disturbing is that there is no indication on the instrument cluster that anything is wrong. I would suspect the oil light would come on at some point, but never have i seen this light, or any other light come on indicating an issue. To sum it up, there are no leaks, the engine will consume all of the oil within 3000 miles if not monitored, and there are no warning lights indicating a problem.

The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The vin was not available.

I own2008 scion xb which currently has 87000 miles on it. 4 weeks ago today i was pulling out of my driveway and from 1st gear to second gear the car jerked hard and all vsa, abs, check engine lights came on, and car wouldn't shift out of gear and steering began to act funny. I had vehicle towed to mechanic in fear of driving it ant further. Mechanic ran diagnostic on car and code read transmission sensor no good. They replaced and problem is still occurring, lights on as well. Mechanic had 3 other mechanics come and evaluate and as well inquired with local toyota dealership who suggested only that it may be wiring harness below battery which is a recurring problem, also that they would gladly look at the car for 90 per hour! mechanics looked at harness and all looked to be in good working shape. The car is still parked and not repaired 4 weeks later.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. The contact stated after having his vehicle in for routine service check the mechanic advised him that the wiring harness on the front driver and passenger side needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and he was waiting for a response from them. The failure and current mileage was approximately 90,000.

Sensor harness corrosion.

The contact owns 2008 scion xb. The contact was driving 25 mph in snowy weather when all of the warning component lights illuminated as the vehicle lost all traction control. The contact was taken to the dealer and the dealer discovered corrosion on the speed sensor and harness.the vehicle was not repaired. The contact located numerous complaints online regarding the speed sensor harness. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 48,132.

I was on a fourway stop at 36 st and 7th ave the car to my left on the driver side ran the stop sign and i hit the car on the back passenger door.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that while reversing, flames were seen from the driver's side window switch. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb.on two different occasions, while driving 60 mph, all of the instrument panel indicators (abs light, brake light, air bag light, traction control light) illuminated for approximately ten minutes.afterwards, the vehicle restarted.on four occasions, the vehicle stalled.while idling at a traffic light or stop sign, the vehicle would sometimes vibrate and shake.the contact also stated that the vehicle burns a lot of fuel.the window sticker claimed that the vehicle would get 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.the vehicle actually gets 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.on the fourth visit to the dealer, the contact was informed that the vehicle misfired on the second cylinder.when he researched the lemon law and went to arbitration, he was informed that, by law, gas is not a warranty factor due to changes in weather.the current mileage was 23,400 and failure mileage was 16,000.updated 03/26/08.*lj

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb.the contact started the ignition.immediately, the anti-lock brake system (abs), visibility stabile control (vsc) and traction controlwarning light indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the warning light indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection.the technician stated the failures were contributed to the speed sensor and wire harness corrosion.the vehicle has not been repaired at this time.the failure mileage was 90,000.

Abs system / vehicle stability control system failure.faulty speed sensors, harness, and wires / both left and right sides.defect results in permanent loss of abs braking and vsc control systems.

I have a toyota scion xb and i was driving on a snow covered road.i had a deer jump out in front of me.the anti-lock brakes failed and my wheels locked up and i slid into the ditch.i contacted the dealership and they said a speed sensor went out.i ordered the part and was going to have it replaced for $90.when they went to install the part they found a short in the wiring and that is what caused the sensor to fail.they wanted me to pay over $1000 to have the wiring fixed.they gave me a copy of the service advisory from toyota stating they knew they had this defect and had a redesigned part to install because of corrosion which caused the short.i refused to have the new parts installed because i don't feel i should have to pay for their design flaws.

My tires slipped in the snow in march, very light snow.not sure of the exact date. My brake light, abs light and traction control light came on.a few days later they went off.now all three are on most of the time even on clear, dry pavement.my anti lock brakes are not activating correctly and i was told that the senor is bad.i looked online and noticed this is a problem with this particular make and model.the car does not stop as it should.i also noticed from my research that toyota is not taking responsibility for their defect and it is costing the consumer up to and over a thousand dollars to repair.i don't have that type of money to repair their defective part.

While driving on snowy and salted roads, the brake, abs, and vsc lights all came on at the same time.they remained on while driving on those same snowy and salty roads.the next day they eventually went off.weeks later they came on again in wet weather and remained on.the local toyota service center duplicated the issue and pulled the diagnostic codes c0210 & c1238.the toyota service center said the entire hub and bearing assembly had to be replaced as the internal abs sensor which they said was at fault was not sold separately and only came as part of the hub and bearing assembly kit.their quote to repair this issue was $915 for the replacement of one hub and bearing kit!this is ridiculous.brake sensors should not fail due to snow, salt, or water coming into contact with them.this is a dangerous flaw in the design of this vehicle and one that is not commonly found with other makes and models, but is commonly reported all over the internet from other owners of toyota's scion xb.toyota should issue a safety recall for this vehicle and cover the cost to replace the sensors with ones that do not fail due to weather conditions.

Electronic steerin module located under the dash are a danger to peoples lives and can go out without warning and cause the driver to lose complete control of the vehicle. Also these modules on a 2008 malibu, 2009 saturn and many other vehicles are known to have the same problem. The manufactuers of the auto have issued a tsb on this item when they should have issued a recall. If this matter is not taken care of asap someone will lose thier life! just a matter of time! i have 35 years mechanic experience on vehicles and 27 years experience on jet engines with the gov. These same type modules are being used on current model vehicles of all makes and should be deemed unsafe! anything that does not allow you to habdle your vehicle after failure is a danger to lives and manufactuers are aware of this. They would not have issued tsb's if they were not aware!read online in forums and complaints thier has been crashes resulting in serious injuries!

Sudden forceful braking 2 times in a 15 mile commute . Driving 55 mph with my foot firmly on the gas pedal, the car suddenly brake hard enough to tighten my seatbelt. 4 dash lights came on . Abs, brake, and traction control were all solid and vsc was flashing.luckily the car behind me was alert enough not to rear-end me.the dash lights mentioned above come on and go off occasionally.

Parking brakes frozen during drive. It happen only in winter time. First time it happen when odo meter at 9,000 mile then 18,000 and now at 40,000+ miles. I checked with local repair shop and endup in replacing rotor + brakepads. But now i feel now it getting worse and repair shop insist that i should contact dealer about this problem, because it is not normal to replace rotor and brakepads twice with 40,000 miles of driving. Windows also froze during the cold weather.

The anti-lock brake system (abs), visibility stabile control (vsc) and traction control warning light, and brake indicators remain illuminated on the instrument panel. The repair center has advised me on different repairs that are inconsistent.one repair option is a faulty sensor in one of my rear wheels that needs replacing.the other repair was that the wheel bearing was bad on the left front wheel andthat when fixed would re-set the sensor lights.this is an obvious flaw in the design of this vehicle and toyota should make every effort to repair the sensor problem.i an not sure why the bearings need to be replaced at this time at over $500.00/wheel.the brake pads, rotors, calipers and other brake parts need frequent replacement at a very high cost.

Takada inflators. While driving my power steering was extremely hard to turn making it extremelydifficulttosteer including pull over to the side. In motion on 110 freeway going 60 m ph went i lost control.

The abs, vsc and brake indicator lights came on. Had to pay 110.00 to have diagnostics run-they found that the r rear wheel speed sensor wire had frayed and malfunctioned. I am able to drive the car but the consultant at toyota told me that my abs, vsc will not work because the sensor is bad. So i have to pay $ 1070.16 to replace the r rear hub, bearing, sensor and harness. I feel this is poor design and from what i see on the internet, this is not an isolated issue. I feel this is a safety issue due to poor design-toyota/scion is aware of the problem and should recall faulty parts/design.

Vehicle was driven to location and parked.when i returned to the vehicle, restarted and began to pull away, steering light came on and all assist in the steering disappeared making it almost impossible to steer.had to have steering ecm replaced.

My xb was bought on april 2008. 1.on november 2009, the vsc light was on. Dealer fixed it by replacing #3 ignition coil.2.on december 2009, the vsc light was on again, this time dealer replaced #2 ignition coil.3. On march 2011, the vsc light was on again and dealer replaced #1 ignition coil.4. On september 2011, the electric steering light was on and steering will not turn. This time i was out of warranty. The dealer replaced "power steering ecm (computer) and charged me $863.36 including $75 rental during repair. The dealer said there was 4 ignition coil in the car, so 3 of 4 of them failed within the first 3 years. He also agreed that the steering problem is life threatening. However he said he couldn't do anything and it was an individual case.

At random times all of the traction control lights, brake lights and other lights on the dash illuminate. It also seems to get harder to steer the vehicle. I have been told it is a wheel speed sensor and drum that needs to be replaced and possibly an axle or spindle. For a car bought new in 2008 with only 42,000 miles the manufacturer should stand behind the product. I am concerned of the safety of driving this vehicle and having a wheel come off. The dealer wants a bunch of money to fix it. Unhappy toyota owner.

At just over 38,000 miles the brake, abs, traction control, and vsc lights all illuminated on my dash. From what i have read it is most likely the rear speed sensors but also requires hundred of dollars worth of other parts to replace. I looked on many of the scion xb forums and found many many people with the same problem. Since i have owned this car(from new) it has been a pain. I have had to replace the o2 sensor the clutch master cylinder the rear brake pads and the low wheel pressure light goes on when it is cold or wet out. So much for toyota reliability. I owned a 1985 toyota celica that had 185000 miles on it when i bought it drove it for 3 years and put on an additional 100000 miles myself and all i had to replace was an alternator belt. So why am i having so many problems with a car that is 23 years newer. I have also received a recall for the ignition coils. Seems to me as though all of us that own theses xb's have been suckered into buying lemons.

My scion experienced loss of stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes during a snow storm in winter 2012. Warning lights for abs, brakes and vsc on the gauge cluster illuminated at that time. While driving at slow speed in the storm i realized that abs was not working. The warning lights remained lit for about two days, then went out and did not return until december 2013. My vehicle was in california during the winter of 2013, and did not experience any loss of abs, brakes, vsc or traction control or illuminated warning lights. In december 2013 while driving in a light snow, approx 2 inches, exiting a local highway and approaching a stop sign at 25 mph i put pressure on the brakes to stop. My car spun around 360 degrees. I hit a snow bank and came to a stop. The entire time the vehicle stability system did not activate.the three warning lights for abs, brakes and vcs are now continuosly lit. Anti-lock brakes, traction control and vehicle stability control still do not function.

Scion has a tsb on parking brake cables that freeze in cold weather. When the cables freeze, it will cause the rear brake calibers to lock against the rotors. You would have to drive about 10 minutes to warm the rotors to unlock the brakes. This could cause brakes to fail and may not stop at all. I drove the scion about 1 mile when a car made a left turn in front of me and the brakes and or traction control failed to work. I've noticed that the car still has stopping problems when its cold. I was lucky it was a low speed crash that caused about 5000 in damage. Scion toyota has not recalled these cars for brakes and only your toyota mechanics know of the problem.

1. Driving on snow covered roads + salt several times + low temps lower then 30f2. Abs+trac+vsc+brake trouble indicator all come on with the vsc light blinking, this occurs after snowfall and the roads being salted. Loss of traction control, vehiclestability control, anti lock brakes, and electronic brake distribution.causing the car to loose all active safety features. 3. Anti-lock electric connectors were removed cleaned with electronic cleaner and brushed to remove significant corrosion from the abs sensor and plug. This hars resolved the problem for the moment.*ln

Using excessive oil. I even use the factory recommended weight with full synth. Uses ~2 1/2 quarts per 3000 miles. No smoke. No visible leak.

The engine oil level began to drop quickly in between oil changes.often times a quart would be required to bring the level back to its proper point after the vehicle was driven as little as 1500 miles.

Excessive oil consumption, blows smoke out of exhaust pipe, and has very loud engine noise. Sounds like the motor is going to blow. Cant use the vehicle.

Excessive oil consumption.qualified for warranty enhancement.oil consumption test conducted through dealerships is rigged.i have charged the oil usage in my car for over 24 months and it burns through in excess of a quart every 800 - 900 miles.

"too much oil consumption" ever since i bought this vehicle in 2008 i noticed topping off my oil in between oil changes. Over the years i added more and more. I called toyota several times and they told be an engine should consume oil and it is normal. But this is too much. I never in my life had to add so much oil to a newer car. Right now i am adding almost a quart every 1000 miles. I have 110k miles. This can get dangerous if you are on a long trip and run out of oil and engine can seize up and stall.luckily i always carry extra oil with me. Imagine how much money i spent on oil through the years. I am not happy and this will be my last toyota i ever own.

Oil consumption. Ever since this vehicle was new i had to add oil several times in between oil changes. Which i though was "odd" but when i called toyota about it they told me it was normal for my car to consume oil. Got a letter called warranty enhancement program says to bring car in for oil consumption test and is car burns more than 1qt in 1100-1300 miles i would get it repaired under warranty (not recall keep in mind). So the test showed i burned 3/4 of oil in 1300. I get nothing from toyota. Not enough oil consumption for them to do anything for me. I don't understand 3/4 in 1300 miles is (a lot) means i have to add 4qts of oil in between oil changes if intervals are 5000 miles. That is ridiculous!!! i am basically doing a oil change my self by burning & adding because 4qts is the capacity of this car. Toyota set the standard of this test beyond reasonable on purpose. The only people that will qualify for any repairs to the piston rings or block would be people that neglected their engines by not adding oil in between oil changes and damaging the engine more than the good guy constantly adding to save our car!!! toyota is not a good company for reasons like this. I will stick with honda in the future. Honda does not play these stupid games with people. My scion has been consuming excessive oil since it was brand new and toyota knows about issue since they issued a tsb on it and free oil consumption test. Due to this problem this car is not a good car to own. I strongly suggest people with similar problem to come forward and let the world know how ridiculous toyota is handing the oil consumptions issue.

Went to walmart for oil change and they detected oil is off sticker. Have to trade in my car to get a new one.

I've been hearing that my car has an engine oil consumption, and since i've own the car i've been buying 1-2 quarts of oil a week! took my car to dealer recently and found out my extended warranty or factory warranty expired . Now i never received any notice about my factory warrant expiration date ! i was never informed and i would like to fix the problem on my vehicle. I'm a first time car buyer and i'm planing on keeping my car to as long as i possibly can! now i would like to speak with someone who can help me fix the oil consumption problem! i need this taken care of , or i will seek legal matter agains you!

2008 scion xb.excessive oil consumption.first noticed problem when engine light came on while braking.stopping caused what little engine oil was in pan to move out of area of sensor triggering low oil warning.added oil upon arrival at home; dipstick did not show any oil.this continued after multiple oil changes at scheduled intervals.consumption is approximately 1-2 quarts in between oil changes, approx 5k miles.brought vehicle to dealership to have oil consumption test performed.vehicle passed, but was told that in order to qualify as an oil consumption vehicle, the car would have to consume 1 quart per 1000 miles.with only a 4 quart capacity, the car would burn all oil prior to the 5k oil change frequency leading to a catastrophic engine failure - seize.i had to pay for an oil change to have the test performed.i was told that my oil consumption was normal, which i do not accept as fact.this scion xb was purchased as a certified used vehicle from a dealership.i am annoyed that the onus falls upon me to prove that my car consumes oil, only to be told that it does not meet the unrealistic criteria.i have been a toyota owner since 1982.i will never buy a toyota vehicle again and i would not recommend the scion brand to anyone.i do not believe toyota builds quality vehicles anymore.

Engine has used a quart of oil which started at about 40,000 miles

I owe a 2008 scion xb. I have notice the oil consumption over the past 5 years use more and more each time. I had asked the place i get service at about the problem. They had told me about toyota having a problem with different models have problems using oil. I haven't see any oil leaks or has my mechanic.

Scion vehicle was hit in an accident by another car on 1/15/2015.vehicle that hit scion failed to stop for a red signal and collided into scion hitting first the right front corner of passenger side, then hit again head on.air bags did not deploy.we have 2 witnesses that saw the accident and all witnesses including the police officer noticed the air bag was not deployed.police report: [xxx]police information: (240) 773-6200; officer [xxx]- montgomery county police departmentlocation: montgomer county, mdinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. The contact stated that the vehicle was burning oil excessively without warning. The oil had to be replaced three to four times after an oil change. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

Dates and mileage are approximate.i have been going through oil for over a year and i have less than 90,000 miles on my scion.i also have a power steering leak.when i first start the vehicle, it makes an awful noise, but when i take it in, no one can find anything wrong.i have another 2,000 miles to go before i need to change the oil again.i checked it once, then checked it again on 11/14/2014 and it was 3 quarts low!i took it to where i get the oil change and that's what i was told - they checked for leaks - none except the power steering.i don't see the vehicle smoke nor do i smell the oil burning.i have had 2 other toyota and have not had problems - they ran with over 150,000 miles.

My vehicle is consuming an excessive amount of oil. This issue started at roughly 58k. I have never been low on oil at any oil change. I was approximately 3qts low at 58k with no signs, at all of an oil leak. I took my car to toyota where an oil consumption test was performed. I was then informed that my engine is having the oil consumption problem as listed in a tsb issued by toyota on august 11, 2011. Because my car is no longer under the power train warranty, toyota is refusing to cover the costly repairs.

Engine oil cumption is too high at about 1 quart per 1,000 miles

I purchased the scion xb 2008 new and have had all oil changes and recommended service performed timely.at approx. 45,000 miles (but after the 5 year warranty had expired, (i am a low mileage driver) i noticed that it had consumed two quarts of oil within around 1500 miles after the oil change (recommended to perform every 5000 miles).i had an oil change and took a road trip so that i put more than a 1000 miles on it in about 10 days, and when i was on a steep incline the check oil light came on.my mechanic said it was possible that the oil had not been filled properly after the change and topped it off.it was low again when i had it changed at the 51,000 mark; after about 1,500 miles it needed two quarts of oil which was added.after another 1,500 or so miles it needed another two quarts of oil, which i added.i contacted toyota, and without reciting the initial runaround, they set up an oil consumption test after confirming it was not leaking oil.the oil consumption test is not completed - it may not be a true reflection of oil usage as it seems to be worse when driven a long distance at one time which will probably not happen during this 1,000 mile cycle.i then got a notice in the mail that they had a program to reimburse owners for the parts (not the labor) if they believed the vehicle met certain (unspecified) criteria after the owners had the repairs done for the defect which, apparently, they already know specifically exists and how to fix it.the notice said they are making as many replacement parts as possible before encouraging us to get our vehicles repaired. My numbers are not exact but the information is generally accurate. Please investigate this and have a recall issued.thank you

There no visible leakand losing or burning oil ,we dont use the our car that much problem started when it reach 100k , i took for change oil at dealership they say its normal and still having the same problem..

Excessive oil consumption. Took vehicle into dealership and spent seven hours waiting while they "tested" the car. Finally, after paying for an oil change was told to let the engine run and come back in when either the oil lamp came on or it was time for an oil change. Lamp came on before mileage was through so went back to dealership and was told that our car "qualified for recall procedure." was not given dates or anything, just told we would be contacted when the parts came in. The car seems to be getting worse, engine shudders and feels like about to stall every once in a while. Called dealership to let them know and girl on phone said that if repairs were needed before parts came in, it would be out of my pocket, and that loaner car would also be at my expense. Finally got word that parts are in and now should be scheduled soon for repairs. Will never buy from toyota again.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. While driving 60 mph, a loud noise was heard underneath the vehicle. The vehicle stalled. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic lot where it was diagnosed that there was a hole in the engine, which caused the engine to fail. The engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled while pulling off without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power and the contact had no control over the vehicle. The failure also occurred while driving 80 mph on the freeway. The contact had no control over the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The vin was not available.

Engine locked. My car was diagnosed with "oil starvation", which was due to scion's "oil consumption" problem. Because i did not have my oil changes done at the dealership, they found a loop hole to avoid paying for a new engine. There has been a tsb issued on this problem and scion refused to take responsibility.

I just purchased my scion xb in january 2019and within three weeks i had the oil light flashing so i took it to get an oil change at midtown toyota in chicago. Within a few weeks i noticed that my oil light started flashing again so i checked motor oil and came to find out that i didn't have any oil.i called midtown toyota where i had my car serviced and asked him if my vehicle had a recall as far as the oil problem that i was having?he said yes there was a recall on my vehicle, however the recall had expired in january 2018. Now i've had the car.now i've only had the car for two months which i'm financing and the service department told me that i will have to pay out-of-pocket for this car to get that recall fixed. I do not feel that it's fair for any dealer i do not feel that it's fair for anydealership to sell a vehicle that has recalls and that have not been taken care of by the previous owners in the past. Is there anything that toyota can do for me to get this re-car fixed free of charge as i am done new owner of this vehicle?

Within the first 3 months from buying my scion from hammer toyota my scion sway bar breaks and come to find out there is a recall on that, but toyota never sent me a notice till i took my car in.then there was a electrical problem as well that something was burning inside my car within the first 3 months and then a hammer toyota employee brings me my car and they had crash my driver side doors.my next problem is that my car is only 4 years old i bought it with 0 miles off the lot and now the car charcoal canister breaks and i bought the extra warranty on my car only for them to tell me that the warranty doesn't cover it and it cost me $1800.00 for them to fix it.now the next problem is that the engine is burning to much oil within a month 1 qty of oil.i take the car to get service and check the oil before the month end and its burn just about 1 qty and that's only driving within the city not driving highway.now i am getting calls from toyota wanting to buy my car back from me for less then what i bought my car for.this car has cost me more money then anything and problems.something is wrong here for them to be calling me to buy my car back from me why is my question? after so many problems i pay my car in full and only 3 to 5 months old when all this problems started and toyota giving me the run around each time i took the car into them and told them about the oil problem for them to tell me just to check the oil every two weeks why should i check the oil every two weeks when the car is new at the time dozen make any sense if it gets oil service every 2,500 miles.

On 1/11/19 i took my 2008 scion xb to toyota one of oakland for 150,000 mile service (my mileage was 104,809 at the time.) at the appointment, i explained i noticed my car using more oil than usual. I had the 100,000 mile service completed on 8/10/18 and noticed i had to add additional oil to the engine since then, approximately 3 to 4 quarts. The weekend of 11/11/18, i noticed the oil was low when i checked the level, but the oil light never came on to notify me. The technician told me that toyota had an excessive oil extended warranty which expired last year and asked me if i was notified by toyota. I had not received any information regarding the extended warranty. I had been notified several times by mail and even a phone call regarding the takata air bag recall and the trd brake kit recall but never about the excessive oil issue until told by the technician. The technician suggested i call toyota customer service and maybe they would offer some consideration since i was never notified by toyota. I called and spoke with two representatives, both very nice but would not offer any assistance with the excessive oil extended warranty, since i had no issues until now and the warranty was over. I reviewed the toyota website at https://www.toyoheadquarters.com and found a letter that had allegedly been sent out to all owners of vehicles with excessive oil consumption issues. I never received this letter. I also found the toyota excessive oil consumption class action lawsuit dating back to 2011 and they had issued a tsb which again i never heard about until now. I have consistently been taking my scion to toyota for regular services and never was it reported to me. Had i known excessive oil was an issue, i would have been alerted to pay attention to the oil level in my car. Since the oil light never went off, i don't know how long my car has been needing more oil.

Excessive oil consumption

My scion xb 2008 model was recalled a couple years ago for excessive oil consumption. And i went twice for service at the toyota of naperville, i was told to come back after a certain amount of miles traveled, so that they could recall the car that obviously had a problem with consuming oil. This was impossible to appease due to the distance of my work from my home. I have to travel 30 miles a day. I have been rejected due to that, because i was over about 11-13 miles each time. In consequence of those events, i put oil in the car every week so that i could keep the engine running. Despite my efforts, the engine seized right after i paid off the car. I feel like i was swindled by the dealership, and the least they can do is replace my engine. I need a car to make it to work to provide for my family of 5 and the way toyota has treated my issue has been unsatisfactory at best. Thank you for your consideration.

Extremely excessive oil consumption. The vehicle uses over 3 quarts of oil between oil changes (5000 mile oil change interval.) we are concerned that the engine may seize while driving, due to lack of oil, causing a crash.(toyota issued a tsb regarding this issue in 2011, due to a design defect.)

1. Incidentthe driver was driving the 2008 scion xb alone on east-bound i-80, approaching carquinez bridge, vallejo, when the vehicle stopped working. The driving speed was about 70 mph.time of the incident was around 12:45 a.m. On december 25, 2014.he was driving on the 1st lane, and to the best of his knowledge, there was only one compact car passing nearby, when the car stopped all of a sudden . He tried to reach outfor a tow truck without success, but later on he rememberedhe was an associate member ofa classic membership card registered in the name of his mother. But he did not have the card on him at that time, but gave his name to aaa to prove he is an associate member. Finally, the aaa tow truck arrived on the scene around 1:45 a.m. He towed it to home, and days later had it towed to a mechanic shop, east bay auto located on north texas street. The mechanic diagnosed the problem and said the engine got broken and the car needed replacement of the engine.2. Scion sideon feb. 10, 2015, the owner of the vehicle received a letter of warranty enhancement notification from scion. The owner did not take an initiative to call scion before receiving this notification.the next day, the vehicle owner called scion and filed a claim for engine failure due to excessive engine oil consumption. Case #[xxx]. The customer service rep at scion arranged for toyota dealership in vacaville to inspect and diagnose scion xb to see if the engine failure was due to excessive engine oil consumption.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My 2008 scion xb is burning through oil at a crazy rate.i drive 100 miles a day and every two days i have to put a whole quart of oil.i have read online about all the complaints but toyota will not publicly acknowledge the problem. My scion is now at 175,000 miles and engine sound becomes worse and worse. Please issue a recall.

Oil consumption, i went to fewer and apparently my warranty has expired, which i was never informed or never received a notice! now i'm screwed because i was planning on keeping my car forever and it a problem that needs to be fix by th manufacture! i never was notified and never revived any letters. I was told by toyota customer service that it was probably sent to original owner! now i need this fixed or i need my full refund if the car can't be fixed without any charge!

We are victims of the oil consumption issue toyota was having with certain models. We did not know about this problem until we went to the dealership complaining about low oil after we had to put oil in the car after we had an oil change done. We then figured out this issue had been outstanding for years but we were never notified about the issue. We contacted toyota and they explain the warranty expired last month and they would not help us out at all. How could they abandon a customer when a known issue has occurred. We were told by the dealership that several cars had come in with the same issue and that it was common. How could toyota get away with a faulty product and not be held accountable. They have lost my support since they will not support me. We now have a car that is not worth anything because of the cost of repairs. This financially sets us back and will now put my family into a financial bind since we are forced into looking for another reliable car to commute to work in. Thanks for nothing toyota.

Driving on major highway and noise started and immediate shutdown of engine which forced me to drift to side of road-- could have been seriously injured as all other cars going well over 65 mph.now being told engine dead on a 5 year old car!!!??? can you help me?i also bought a 2004 sienna and its awesome with no issues.i want to know why this happened and where am i going to get 5000$ for a new engine when living pay to pay already??thanks for your help and consideration.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle to the dealer for routine maintenance, the contact was advised that the pistons in the engine were not retaining oil as it should. The dealer made repairs to the piston assembly. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered to pay for the part and the contact would have to cover the labor costs. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Updated 02/03/12*ljupdated 02/10/12

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that the oil warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that there was a defect in the motor. As a result, the engine would have to be rebuilt. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle "puttered" as if it would stall.the vehicle would not move when the accelerator pedal was depressed and nearly caused a crash.the check engine warning indicator illuminated.the issue occurred a total of five times and the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three occasions.on the first visit, the dealer replaced the engine harness.on the second visit, they moved the coils around and then replaced the coils during the third visit.none of the repairs remedied the failure.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was approximately 11,000 and failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

This vehicle had a lot of issues, first the front passenger seat belt fail 12/26/09 toyota fixed/replaced now 4/3/12 discovered oil is burning to the point the oil light came on. Checked oil no oil show on oil dipstick then went to autozone bought the oil and topped it off 4/3/12. Before this both rear wheel bearings fail worn out. Replaced both sides cost almost $900 just parts alone. I've never own a new car before that has so much issues like this one. This vehicle is poorly made and toyota should do something about this. Is this mean i will have to topped off my vehicle every other week or change my rear bearing and hubs every 50-70 miles or sooner? this is ridiculous and this is not toyota it used to known for. I own honda/acura and nissan never have this problem before. Not even once and have the vehicle more than 5-7 years already. Now my rear door/trunk don't want to open like there is time delay or some type. Why aren't toyota warn people of the know issues or fixed it before they sell it?

The 1st thing i noticed after starting my car after work was the heater was blowing cold air, even after 4 miles on the road (2 lane road - 40 mpg). About 4 miles further on (freeway - 60+ mph), i noticed a thin grey cloud behind me, but the evening mists were evident, so i wasn't sure at first if it was coming from my car. I checked the temperature gauge which showed flat cold - unusual! i checked my rearview mirror again, maybe 200 yds later, and there was a paler grey cloud following me. I checked the instrument panel again and there were no warning lights showing. About 200-500 yards farther, the vsc light came on, the traction control light came on and another light that is not shown in the owner's manual started blinking: the symbol was a car with a recycle arrow inside the body. I took it to mean that the controls were acknowledging the heater wasn't working (the symbol is the same as "air intake selector" on the heater/air conditioner controls).i felt that i still had good control over the steering; it was a clear evening and the road was dry, so i felt i could get home safely (2 miles). The car was running quite rough when i got home and there was what seemed to be steam coming from the front quadrant on the passenger side.the dealer says the water pump failed, causing the engine to overheat, so now the engine needs to be replaced ($6800). Why did the warning lights and temperature gauge not let me know the engine was overheating????? or why did the water pump suddenly fail?? no warning lights to indicate failure of a critical part!!!!!??!. (car has been regularly maintained, all recommended service performed by certified mechanics). No sign that the water pump was leaking prior to this incident.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion. The contact stated when depressing the brakes, the brake pedal would fall into the floorboard and would feel spongy and soft. In addition, the vehicle was consuming large amounts of engine oil. The dealer was unable to duplicate or locate any failure within the vehicle. The manufacturer confirmed that the vehicle was operating as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 18,000 and the current mileage 46,000.

Foul smell 5 days after purchase of new car, been into service 9 times deal does not know what to do replace cooling /heating vents and replaced with new.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact started the ignition and applied pressure to the brake pedal, followed by an unintended forceful acceleration. The driver side floor mat was underneath the brake pedal, and it covered the accelerator pedal surface. The engine was turned off immediately. The failure was contributed to a floor mat clip that disengaged from the floor which resulted in themovement of the mat. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The vin was rejected from the system. The vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer's engineer who replaced the floor mat clip. The failure mileage was 31,688.

I called toyota about 4 months ago and they said there is no fix for it. And i got another letter today. The passenger side airbag light comes on sometimes for no reason.

08 scion head lights are not visible after 75 ft. ( low beams) complete darkness after that limit. Series of crack wind shields all starting at the bottom.

The reverse lights are only placed on the driver side. There is not a reverse light visible from the passenger side because it does not exist. This has nearly caused me several accidents with pedestrians and vehicles.i have noticed the newer models have fixed this safety hazard and have placed reverse lights on both sides.we are extremely concerned. This definitely needs to be recalled/fixed on these models. I have attempted to contact my dealer and scion corporate several times with my concerns, with no response.

Low beam headlamps on the 2008 scion xb do not project out far enough from the vehicle.there is a clearly defined line about 75 feet from the vehicle where the light ends and the dark begins during night driving.the solution according to toyota/scion was to purchase fog lamps as auxiliary lighting they do help as do the high beams.however the so called "halogen headlights w/ projector low beams' do not do exactly that project enough light.i can not get them to understand how dangerous the situation is when you can only use the low beams.they claim the lights have been adjusted to the maximum.and are designed as urban lights so as to not be intrusive to opposing drivers or pedestrians.i however live in a very rural area and the lights are not adequate for rural driving.the problem seems to be caused by both beams pointing down and to the opposite side of the vehicle.i think this is a serious safety issue that toyota/scion needs to resolve, or be forced to resolve.i suspect as the days get shorter more owners like me will discover how poorly the low beams perform.there have been no crashes, injuries or deaths unless you know something i don't.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb.the contact smelled sulfur inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle.initially, he thought the smell was coming from the water in the battery.he took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that he needed to change his selection of gasoline.the contact took the dealer's advice, but the smell still persists and makes him nauseas.he called the toyota corporation and informed them that the smell could be from any type of gasoline; therefore, it was not something that he could control.toyota refused to assist with the issue.the failure mileage was 200 and current mileage was 4,500.

Open the side door or trunk and shut the door. The driver door locks and the other doors are not locked. The only way to open the driver door is key remote..the drivers door will lock when it wants too.i have had toyota to look at it and they say they have to see it happen.i have had it in the shop many times and over night and they don't see the problem.they tell me it is brain problem and changed something but it did not save the problem. I am tried of getting out of my car and this door locking on me. Any door can be open except the drivers door. This a safety issue to if i can not get in my car right away. Please help me get this issue solved. I would hate to be in an accident and thedoor not open because it looked itself.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)hello, my name is[xxx], i live in [xxx]and i am experiencing vehicle trouble. This is a model of a 2008 toyota scion xb. Well, as i speak right now my vehicle has 49,409 miles and it is still sitting in their shop since 05/10/2010 for the transmission to be replaced. They thought it was a sensor problem but then they told me that my vehicle is having already a transmissions problem. I brought my vehicle to them on 05/09/2010 because i was driving on a 30/45 mph lane and it starting to vibrate pretty unusual. The next day the service department called me and said that they did not hear anything wrong with the vehicle so then i took it back left on my way out. Well, the next day it started to occur again and this time, the vibration was much heavier.so, i took it back to the same person that i've have dealt with on this issue.i had explained to him that the issue is not fixed. I explained to him that "i still feel the vibration on my vehicle you need to test drive it yourself so you'll know what i am trying to explain". Well the guy did test drive it and of course he did describe it that it is an unusual noise that the scion xbis doing. He also indicated to me that it is too soon for this vehicle to be having a transmission issue. So they will have their toyota technicians guys to take a look at it. And the 3 weeks are almost here and my car it is still sitting in their shop to be fixed. Now, the big question is " will this car be safe for me to drive with my family on the highway? yes, they are changing the transmissions but what will happen if this transmission breaks down on me 1 year from now or even months from now.i will really be worried especially when i am with my children. Can you please help me with some suggestions or any tips that i need to do?i feel very unsafe now that this vehicle it is not going to be safe.updated 07/06/10. *ljupdated 07/09/10.

Excessive oil consumption. I have to add two quarts of oil between every oil change and the vehicle is still a quart low when it's changed. I received a letter from toyota to have vehicle tested for excessive oil consumption. Test results show it uses .6 quarts in 1000 miles, toyota says that's normal.

Defective brakes or related problem with 2008 scion xb model.when vehicle comes to a stop, a loud, low/downward pitched sound occurs and it feels like either the brakes are grinding or something related to the drive train is having a problem.this is an intermittent problem, but occurs most often after the car has sit idle for awhile.toyota technicians drove the car for 2 days and said they experienced/heard the problem, but were not sure what it was or how to fix it.they lubed the front brake glide pins and adjusted shim pan and charged me $120 even though the car is under warranty.unfortunately that did not fix the problem and i am worried that the car braking system may fail while i am driving the car.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact statedwhile driving at 70mph, the front passenger tire experienced tread separation.

Discovered two wires that tore through the fabric on the back of the drivers seat. These exposed metal wires are sharp and can easily cut somebody if they should rub against them. Something has failed inside the seat. Multiple people have the same issue on a dedicated online forum for this vehicle. Not isolated.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. The contact stated that the rear seats were extremely covered with rust. The contact was concerned that the seats were fatigued and would not hold up in the event of an accident. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the rust was caused by the elements. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer when the complaint was filed. The current mileage was 7,657. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

Malfunctioning right rear wheel speed sensor causes abs and vsc lights to go on and when lights are on the abs and vsc do not function. Was told that i needed to replace the right rear hub, bearing, sensor and harness. Vehicle had only 52939 miles on it and was off warranty so would cost over 1000.00 to repair. Several months later, lights have gone off without repair. Noted that this is a common problem with xb ,yet no recalls.

All safety devices are off when salt is used on roadways.salt and snow causes error codes c0215, rear speed sensor lh circuit to malfunction and shuts down the abs, traction control, and air bag deployment. All safety devices are off when salt is used on roadways.this is a know problem with 2008-2009 scion xb, toyota tsb s-sb-0040-09, july 6,2009**the connectors for these sensors are exposed to the environment, causing non deployment of safety devices leading up to, and during a crash**

I looked to see how fast i was going (30 mph) and when i looked back up there was a car stopped in the road approximately 35ft ahead of me. When i applied the brakes my car never slowed down and i hit the other car.

Speed sensor failed due to shortening of wire.this has caused abs system stop functioning.there are no re-call by toyota scion yet.this type of problem has caused by defective part.notice other people had same problem on same day.also, many people posted same problem on web.

Power steering shut off and the light is on on the dashboard with the break light too.car was ok and then start to drive it on highway and all at a sudden the steering light went up and he brake light too and it shuted off the power steering

I was coming to a stop and my brakes stuttered and seemed as if they locked up.immediately after my brake, abs, vsc and traction control lights came on.minutes later they turned off but since then keep coming on and going off.the roads were very dry no rain or snow conditions.it has happened multiple times in the past week.now i am scared to drive my car for the time being before they can get me into look at it.$120 to diagnose it and who knows how much afterwards.i have had this car for almost 5 years with only 80 miles on it when i purchased it.i am very upset for how much i've had to replace on this car.i only drive it to work and home with the occasional errands.is it worth shelling out another $1000.this should be looked into for a recall.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the traction control monitor and the brake warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to be repaired but the details were not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000. The vin was not available.

2008 scion xb - brake, vsc & abs warning lights all coming on together and then going off intermittently while driving - when driving in rain or snow i feel like i may lose control.

Vehicle brake, abs, vsc, traction control lights on dash.intermittent during winter for a few weeks, then all lights on solid.there seems to be a known wheel speed sensor problem on these cars, but no recall or extended warranty period.i bought my car used, and thus did not know that the car was out of warranty by 6 weeks when i took it to the dealer for service, even though it was not out of warranty by mileage.dealer refused to even diagnose the problem without being paid.there should be some leeway for known problems, especially concerning the brakes, but not with this company and dealer.

My 2008 scion tc has been having braking problems since i bought it in 2007. The brake is slow to stop the vehicle, and i have many times been in a situation where my car crossed over the stopping lines at the intersections. Every time the problem occurred, i was panic and terrified because i pressed hard on the braking pedal but it did not immediately stop the vehicle. The problem is worse when it is raining. When i pressed hard on the braking pedal to stop the vehicle, the brake seemed to touch the road. I could feel something in the braking system crashing on the road until i stop pressing the braking pedal. I have driven many different cars, and they did not have braking problems i my scion tc has.

This concerns my leased 2008 scion xd. The first time my brakes failed was about a week prior to receipt of the recall notice. I was going downhill at a very low rate of speed in very cold weather, dry ground. I put my foot on the brake & nothing happened. I had to swerve & bump the curb to slow the car and after about 15 feet, i was able to bring the car to a stop.the recall involves moisture collected on the positive crankcase ventilation port, seeps into the brake system vacuum port & freezes in colder temperatures causing brake failure.i had the recalled part replaced, & then the brakes failed again. Again at slow speed. This time on a flat surface. Very cold temperatures, but no inclement weather. I immediately called to schedule service. But before my appointment the brakes failed four times in one hair raising drive to work. I am amazed either myself or someone else was not hurt.i called the dealership & told them there was no way i would drive the car again. They sent a loan vehicle out with a driver to pick up my car & drive it back to the dealership.now the mechanic is saying they can find nothing wrong with the vehicle. They are 'unable to recreate the problem.'i have a year left on the lease of this vehicle. There is no way i am going to subject myself to the danger of driving this car again .six brake failures is more than enough. I met with a dead end trying to work with my dealership regarding my scion xd. They could not duplicate the conditions under which my brakes failed to work. According to them, there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.it did not matter to them that their mechanic took it for a five minute spin in temps that were nearly 30 degrees warmer than the temps were when i encountered this problem. I spoke with a sales manager, the general manager and the head mechanic. I could tell the sales manager felt badly, but he was forced to tow the company line. The general manager was horribly condescending. They offered no solution to my problem.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. While driving approximately 30 mph, the abs, traction control and stability control warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. In addition, the parking brake began to illuminate. The malfunction occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated to the contact that the rear driver side abs sensor connector was faulty and would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 69,700.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. The contact stated he noticed an unusually loud screeching when depressing the brakes. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and advised the vehicle was safe to drive. The contact stated when the manufacturer discovered the vehicle was covered under an extended warranty he was advised by the dealer that the vehicle could be repaired and advised bringing the vehicle back for further testing. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The failure mileage was 21,355. The current mileage is approximately 53,000.

Dashboard warning light for brakes, abs, and tcs light up randomly so the driver cannot determine if there is a problem with the brakes or it is a false warning.the car was examined by don joseph toyota/scion in kent, ohio on march 1, 2010.they said the right rear sensor was malfunctioning and it would cost approximately $700 to repair it because the car has 53,000 miles on it and is out of warranty.this failure has been occurring intermittently for one month.

Winter brake problems-on cold days (30 and below)the right rear caliber locks and will not release.this problem occurs when the emergency brakes are on and the tempature is 30 or below.when the emergency brakes are released, only the one right rear caliber stays locked.i had to drive the vehicle to get the caliber hot enough to release the brakes.i can not use my emergency brakes at all!

In my 2008 scion tc (scroll down options would not allow me to select this model), i experience momentary failure of the brakes. This occurs when i drive over a pot hole, railroad tracks, etc. & attempt to brake at the same time. The brakes do not "catch" so to speak, and gives a feeling that they are just "bouncing" around, instead of actually slowing or stopping the car. This has occured at least 3 times since i purchased the car in 2008. It most recently occured last month.

At about 49k miles, brake light, vsc & abs warning lights starting coming on intermittently and simultaneously and remained on while driving..per owner's manual took to dealer and was told cause was a defective speed sensor and that failure to fix could cause abs and vsc systems to fail or not perform as designed.dealer could provide no explanation for failure and cost of repair was over $1,000.

I had been drivingmy 2008 scionxb in stop and go traffic for approximately and hour, then entered a toll road with speed of 65 mph.i had to go through two toll plazas, slowing down for each. I was approaching the exit ramp for my destination, applied my brakes to slow down and the car continued at high speed.the road conditions were dry.i was unable to bring my vehicle under control.fortunately there was a snow pile that had been plowed to the end of the rampat the intersection which softend my crash.the car was towed to an auto body shop. The brake line was examined and no ruptures were in the brakeline. I am waiting for more information from the insurance adjuster.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)my 2008 toyota scion has always had a master cylinder problem. When you are waiting at a light with your foot on the brake pedal, the pedal gradually sinks toward the floor. Ordinary braking is o.k. I have had the dealer look at it several times and he (gettel motors) always says it is all right. I reported it to toyota in california with no results. I think it is a defective master cylinder that allows the brake fluid to by-pass.[xxx]

The contact owns a2008 toyota scion xb. The contact was driving approximately between 50-55 mph on normal road conditions. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to slow down. The vehicle crashed into the proceeding vehicle. The police was called to the scene. There were no personal injuries. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to the authorized dealer. The previous day before the failure occurrence the anti-lock brake system engaged without warning and the road surface was dry. The cause of the failure had not been determined at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000. Updated 06/17/10.*ljupdated 07/12/10

Electronic power steering failed during driving. Power steering light remains activated.

I got into my car to leave the grocery store about an hour ago, went to back up and it was impossible to steer and the power steering warning light was on. Luckily i was able to make it home but it was insanely difficult to steer being that i'm a small female with little upper body strength. This is a 2008 scion xb with 82k miles on it. I haven't had any issues until now and then suddenly this??? my husband is going to look at it but after reading all the other complaints, looks like it'll be an expensive fix..

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. While braking at an unknown low speed, the power steering light illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering wheel became very stiff and difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the electronic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 40,000.

I drove the vehicle on saturday evening and experienced no problems. Returned to the vehicle on sunday to attend church and the power steering would not function. I checked the fuses and they were not blown. The vehicle is almost impossible to drive without the power steering unit working. I live forty (40) miles from a dealer repair shop. It will be very expensive to have a wrecker service pick up the vehicle and haul to the dealer.

Lost power steering while making a u-turn. Was able to gain control by steering hard on the steering wheel!almost crashing onto another car. Found out that they're are so many complaints in regards to this matter online. Scion would not recall, or investigate further.cost of repair, tow, diagnostic is in the $1500+!

I bought a 2008 scion xd in september 2008. 6 weeks after i bought the car, i totaled it when steering on an on-ramp to the highway. It spun three times and finally stopped after hitting the guardrail. I was alone. I got whiplash. I am a very experienced driver but the car lost absolute control at a low speed (under 25 mph) but on wet blacktop in the fall in new england.. The car was $30 from being classified as a total. The body shop was owned by the dealer - not sure if the $30 discrepancy had anything to do with that. They also said the frame/unibody was slightly off and left me with a totally valueless car with 3,000 miles on it. Since then i do not trust the steering of the car. It does seem to swim at speeds over 55 - 60 mph - almost a hydroplaning feel to the steering on dry pavement. I wonder what it will take for it to be recalled?

Steering problem on the 2008 toyota scion xbwe bought a 2008 scion xb that have been working fine until this scary problem took place. We cannot explain how problematic the electric power steering can be. We are filing this complaint because safety is our main concern and the steering problem is life threatening. As we started the car, the power steering light illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering wheel became very stiff and difficult to turn. Immediately we contacted the dealership. We spoke with their service manager and he confirmed that the problem is not unknown and there is nothing they can do. We asked for a price estimate and he said that without warranty it will be proximately $800.00.we towed the vehicle to a very well experience mechanic. He confirmed that the electric power steering needed to be replaced and it should be taken directly to dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. Imagine such problem taken place while driving on a major highway!!!!!!in all fairness if they've designed something that's prone to failure, the ultimate pricing should clearly reflect that fact. They should be held responsible not only for the repair damage but for every innocent lives that were lost. Today (april 23, 2015) i stopped at a store, everything was fine. After returning to my car i started it and proceeded to back out of my parking space and realized i had no power steering and noticed the steering wheel light was on. I took it to sears and they diagnosed that it was the ecu. I was told by sears that i had no choice but to bring it to a dealer to be repaired. I dropped it off about an hour ago and am waiting to get hit with the repair costs.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact started the ignition and attempted to turn the steering wheel however, here was no response. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who advised that the steering computer was faulty. The vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

In addition, the contact mentioned that the windshield wipers operated independently. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 153,063.

Started the car after being parked overnight and the power steering light came on and it had a total loss of power steering. I took it to a toyota specialty mechanic and he diagnosed that the power steering ecu had failed at it could only be fixed properly at the dealership.

I was backing up into the garage when all of the sudden the power steering light came on and i lost all the use of the power steering

Power steering went out. Google search shows it is happening to many 2008 scion xb owners. From parked, turn key to start, power steering no longer works and warning lights flash. Too many 2008 scion xbs on the road today are encountering the same problem, and should be fixed at no charge to the owner.

2008 scion xb.power steering failure as a result of power supply relay failure.loss of power steering occurred upon start up.power steering warning light on.was told at local garage that there was an electrical issue that could only be addressed at dealership.car will need to be driven to dealership, but without power steering it is potentially dangerous.i am lucky this did not occur unexpectedly while driving.what a lemon.

Total loss of power steering. Warning light was displayed on the dash. Toyota is aware of this issue. There was a tsb issued but i'm told my vin isn't one effected.problem is a defective computer (ecm) under the driver dash.loss of power steering is a major safety concern. Toyota downplayed it as an isolated incident. It only took me 4 minutes to diagnose the problem because of the amount of complaints.

Vehicle was driven to location and parked.when i returned to the vehicle, restarted and began to pull away, steering light came on and all assist in the steering disappeared making it almost impossible to steer.had to have steering ecm replaced.

On 9/14/15 around 7am my power steering was working great, but 30 min. When i turned my car on i saw the steering wheel warning indicator has turned on. Not knowing anything i drove my car to an autobody to have it checked and they told me it was the electric mechanism that needs to be fixed and to bring my car into the dealer for further investigation. Later that day i drove my car to the dealer with a really stiff steering wheel. The next day the dealer called and told me that the power steering will need to be replaced because it was inoperative, so i had them replace the part and the total has put a hole in my wallet. I have had this car since july 2007 and it hasn't even been 10 years yet that part is not functional anymore.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the power steering suddenly failed causing the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. Power steering died without warning car became very hard to steer dealer says it isthe power steering esu failureand that it is very unusual for this to happen but i see numerous complaints herehave to wait to get it replace due to the very high cost to replace this part.

After pumping gas in my 2008 scion xb, i proceeded to turn the engine of my vehicle on and tried to pull the steering wheel to the right. The steering wheel had become very rigid and extremely difficult maneuver, in that moment the electric power steering light came on. Miles on the vehicle when failure occurred is 89,000.

Electronic power steering failure while parked. When i parked the car my steering worked. When i started my car and preceded to back up, the power steering light appeared and it was nearly impossible to turn the wheel.

My 17 year old daughter was driving 30 mph through an intersection, attempting a turn, when the power steering went completely out. She wasn't able to complete turn, almost had a wreck. She was completely overwhelmed and scared out of her mind when she made it home(her calls to me on cell weren't coming through for some reason). We purchased this car used, but had been very well maintained and had only 24k miles on it, so didn't think an extended warranty was needed. Unfortunately, it had 71k on it at the time of incident. I have seen multiple cases of this make/model with this same issue. Is someone going to have to die before this part gets recalled??? it could've been my daughter!

I turned on my car and was slowly backing out of the driveway when the steering wheel icon lit up. The steering suddenly became very difficult to turn and i was barely able to park the car on the street. I'm unable to use the car for anything else as i can barely steer at all.

Power steering shut off and the light is on on the dashboard with the break light too.car was ok and then start to drive it on highway and all at a sudden the steering light went up and he brake light too and it shuted off the power steering

I was driving my car down the road and, all of a sudden, the power steering completely stopped working which really caught me off guard.when this happened, i couldn't maintain control of the car but slowed down enough so that i eventually could steer it (very hard to steer).this could have caused a very serious accident or injury or fatality since it caught me completely by surprise.i wasn't very far from my scion dealer and i carefully drove right over there and they told me that the power steering ecu computer had failed (the car has electronic steering) and would need to be replaced at a very high cost ($800).so, my car is sitting and waiting for a new computer which they didn't have and had to order.this is a terrible and very dangerous safety problem.i'm a fairly strong male and was able to regain control of the car, but if an elderly person or someone small and not strong was driving, they might not have been able to avoid an accident or fatality.this absolutely should not happen (especially in a car like mine with around 73,000 miles) and is, in my opinion, an extremely serious safety issue which needs to be investigated and compensation needs to be made by the manufacturer for repairs involving this problem.this is not an isolated problem involving 2008 scion xb cars, and many others have experienced it as an internet search clearly shows.again, this is a serious safety issue which needs to be investigated immediately and a recall is clearly justified in this case.

He confirmed it had rained three weeks prior. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but there were no repairs made to the vehicle. In addition, there was a fracture in the rear bumper which he believed to be the source of the water entry. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 37,617.

Approximately 3 foot horizontal crack appeared on the bottom right side of windshield, beginning at the extreme base of the windshield (around the black defrost vent) as it sat parked in an enclosed garage.the crack extends left toward driver's side.aeronautics expert who examined the crack confirmed that the crack was not due to a rock or other foreign object, but that there is most likely a design flaw, or that there is a bolt or other piece of equipment fastened too tightly.

When the car had about 37,000 miles i started hearing a rattle coming from the back of the car.the car now has 50,000 + miles and i hear the rattle all the time.i searched every online forum regarding rattles coming from the bumper with no findings.in conversation with a toyota service rep, he told be it could be the roof brace at the b pillar.i further investigated the problem on line and saw several reports where the 2008 through 2009 does have a problem with the left side roof brace at the b pillar not being welded to the frame.i removed enough interior parts to confirm the roof brace is not welded to the structure on the left side.is seems the roof support not being welded would weaken the crash resistance in a side impact.i also noted several complaint of stress cracked windshields which may be related to a loose b pillar roof brace.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that there was a leak in the rear floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis however, the cause of the leak was not identified. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to return the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection. The vehicle was returned to the dealer but the cause of the leak was still not identified. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least five times with no remedy. In addition, mold began to grow in the vehicle and emit an offensively strong and distasteful odor. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable. The current mileage was 35,000.

I was driving on the highway doing about 65 mph when the hood unlatched and hit my windshield. I couldn't see for about 10 seconds before it flew off and over the car onto the highway behind me

Strip of plastic molding on exterior roof rack, passenger side, fell out sometime during travels.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the front hood flew open and struck the roof of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact that they would send an inspector to further assess the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000.

I was behind a pickup truck in a left turn lane .the truck turned and hit a motorcycle which then hit my bumper, left front wheel, drivers door ,leftpassenger door, leftrear wheel and left rear quarter panel. $5700 damage. Not one air bag deployed. I suffered concussion with vision loss in my left eye and a herniated disc in my neck from the whiplash.the motorcycle was moving at traffic speed. I was stopped.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb.the contact stated that the brake system, air bag and the anti brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel.the dealer diagnosed that the speed sensor, wire, hub, bearing assembly and rear axle would need to be replaced.the manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 42,000. The current mileage was 46,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contacts owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, there was an abnormal noise and the vehicle veered to the right. The contact discovered that the control arm was fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

The car sustained a n l shaped crack in the windshield passenger side from no apparent impact . Clearly a design flaw and is likely to happen again according to how many people have complained about this .

Using excessive oil. I even use the factory recommended weight with full synth. Uses ~2 1/2 quarts per 3000 miles. No smoke. No visible leak.

For the 3rd time in 18 months the clutch pedal sticks making the vehicle not drivable. The linkage has broken, or according to toyota service representative, dirt has collected underneath the cable which prevents the clutch from engaging properly. This seems to occur after the vehicle has been parked, but i dread it occurring in traffic or on the freeway. After the first occurrence, it did happen after i left the freeway from just having it repaired. Every incident requires a vehicle tow.

Abs system / vehicle stability control system failure.faulty speed sensors, harness, and wires / both left and right sides.defect results in permanent loss of abs braking and vsc control systems.

I recently experienced a "sudden acceleration incident". Our 2008 scion xb was driven over 122,000 miles without major malfunction until3:30 pm on september 26 2014. Then, after stopping at our mailbox on the left side of the road, i proceeded 15 feet to our driveway entrance and made a left turn to position the car to pass through our gate, about 20 feet ahead. My speed was under 5 mph. I may or may not have touched the brake and/or accelerator pedal to adjust speed. Suddenly, the engine roared into wide-open-throttle and the car lurched forward. The car went through the gate, grazing the left gatepost, which shattered the left-front hubcap and sheared off the left mirror mount. The car then careened down our driveway while i attempted to steer and apply the brake. After about 2 seconds, during which the car traversed about 100 feet down the driveway, the engine abruptly slowed to normal and the brakes stopped the car. Damage included the sheared-off left mirror assembly, left-front hubcap, and minor denting of the left-front wheel well.the car engine has behaved normally since but has not been driven beyond our driveway. I experienced no impact or injury, aside from shock.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated while stopped with her foot on brake the vehicle surged forward and accelerated on its own hitting another vehicle in front of her. There were no injuries and there was no police report. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and they diagnosed it stating it was a power surgewithin the computer mechanism. They repaired and reset it. The failure has not occurred since therepair was done. They also checked the brake and stated that it was not an issue. The failure mileage was 8232 and current mileage was 31570.

The contact owns a 2008 scion xb. The contact was driving 60 mph and attempting to pass another vehicle. The vehicle abnormally accelerated from 60 to 70 mph. The accelerated pedal had become stuck in the open throttle position and would not release. The contact stated he had previously experienced the failure and was advised ny the dealer that the pedal most likely had become stuck under the floor mat causing it not to release. The manufacturer was not contacted on either occasion. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 49,600.

The toyota scion i was driving suddenly sped up causing me to crash into a hedge in a parking lot.i had come to a complete stop in odor to turn into the parking lot when the accelerator stuck.

2008 scion accelerator problem.car was at afullstop prior my turninginto asmall parking lot, when the brakes released the scion sped forward. I wasunable to stop.the scion. My car was totaledthe driver seatpushed forward throwing me into the steering wheel and pining me there. Although the air bag deployed i was injured when i hit the steering wheel.my neck also was affected from the impact. Unfortunately the car hit a parked car which brought the my car to a full stop throwing me into the steering wheel.i was takento an emergency hospital where i underwent 3 cts and was seen by a doctor.upon discharge i went home with instructions.i have since had a physical therapy help with my neck.

My 2008 scion xb has been through two windshields in a year. I was told at the dealer i am lucky because they have replaced and many as five windshields on other xb's. The windshield seems to crack very easily.

Front windshield developed l-shaped crack on passenger side, starting at top molding.car was sitting in driveway, no evidence of impact.took car to dealer for eval, at first they could find no reason for crack.service manager then used a pen to find a minute imperfection in the crack line.he claimed it was an impact, however, it was less than 2mm long by 1 mm, not circular in shape and follows exactly the line of the crack.in my opinion he broke off a tiny shard when he did the pen trick.after i made him look at it again, and a rock impact on another one of my cars (with no crack), he could not explain how such a tiny chip could look so different and cause such a crack.he refused to acknowledge any defect or knowledge of scion problems with windshields.ironically, i found an entry for another 2008 from the same dealership.i am following increased escalation of the issue, next step is an inspection by the factory rep.after that, i will call the national toyota customer service.if i can get no action, then i will call the attorney general of the state.

My windshield in my 2008 scion xb cracked at an angle starting around the mirror and curving to the right. It occurred hours after i had driven it, from no apparent reason.the glass appears to be substandard or similar to the honda element, a design defect. I had it replaced already.

Two separate cracks on windshield 1st on occurred at 4000 miles on passenger side and is now 14 inches long.the 2nd one is on the drivers side at 17000 miles and is 10 inches long.

I have a 2008 scion xb. It developed a crack in the windshield. This crack started in the seal, and formed a perfectly straight crack, which then curved, and cracked straight across the windshield. I was told by the scion dealer that it was due to a rock hitting my windshield, but there is not impact crack visible. There is not spider webbing of any kind, just a line straight across the windshield.

Walked to car to drive to work at 0730 hours.noticed "l" shaped crack in windshield beginning at the base of the windshield (passenger side) about 10" from the a pillar.travels vertically to 3" above passenger wiper blade.changes direction horizontally about 10" moving toward drivers a pillar.outside air temp 53 degrees.

2008 scion xb windshield cracked without anything coming in contact with it. The following morning the crack extended the full length of the windshield.

My 2008 scion xb developed a large crack and has hundreds of little tiny holes on the windshield where small pebbles have struck it.toyota wants $1000 to replace, and wouldn't do it under warranty, although i believe it's a defect.

My windshield has a "l" shaped crack on the passenger side top. I don't recall hitting anything, so i am not sure what caused it. I called the dealer and they quoted me $500.00 just for the windshield plus labor to install. I cannot believe this. Something needs to be done.

Cracked windshield on 2008 scion xb....just walked out one morning and the crack was there.

I was advised to contact the nhtsa regarding my windshield crack on my 2008 scion xb. My windshield sustained a impact from a pebble so small that i did not even notice the impact while driving. The resultant impact pock was less than the size of a dime and located within an inch of the center bottom of the windshield. That small pock has turned into a diagonal crack that three days later is 10 inches long and growing. My research has turned up that this a common problem that toyota has so far not corrected and that a class action lawsuit is developing in order to force a recall. I will be contacting my purchasing toyota dealership, toyota of san bernardino, ca in an attempt to get this repaired under the 36 month full warranty.

Car was sitting still, had just started it.heard a "pop" and my windshield was cracked.scion xb 2008.i have been reading about numerous complaints with the l shaped crack going from the dash by the drivers wiper across to passenger side.no rock hit the windshield there.

Poor quality back-up light could cause vehicle to be unseen while backing up.scion xb has only one back-up light mounted on the lower right side of the bumper.this light could cause a serious hazard to children and pets that are walking or playing at night.toyota has installed a very safe light assembly on the same vehicle sold in japan as a (toyota rumion).the lights on the toyota are a direct fit with the scion xb and cost toyota very little to fix.please note that single light on the bumper can illuminate theground and the toyota version lights up the rear completely.these toyota lights can be found on the internet and some members of scionlife. Com has installed them already. The cost of these lights shipped to the us areway beyond what most are willing to pay. Please look into this safety hazard!

I have a large crack in the front windshield of my 2008 scion xb.i bought the car in may so it is a little over 3 months old.i do not believe that it was caused by anything hitting the windshield.my scion dealer says that it is not covered by my warranty.they want to charge me $1010 to replace the windshield and the molding.

I purchased a brand new 2008 scion xb on august 3, 2008 and only after 2.5 weeks noticed the "l" shaped crack on my windshield.after my initial inspection i could not see any visible abrasions.i took my vehicle to the dealer 2 days after i first noticed and was told that it was due to a rock.the service representative that conducted the test had to literally try to find a "point of contact".he even had to request for someone else to find one.finally after numerous passes with his pen and finger he finds a small chip about the size of a pen tip, an inch down from the seam of where the glass meets the car.the car has less than 600 miles.is parked in a garage (at work and home). The crack is now an estimated 7+ inches.i said to the service rep, "is the quality of the windshield that poor, that a very small rock hitting a brand new windshield would cause this much damage".his response was yes.

L shaped crack in windshield of my scion xb. At about 8000 miles, woke up one morning and there it was.........many people having this problem across the country.

My toyota scion developed a crack in the windshield overnight, nothing appeared to have struck or hit the windshield. Believe that this might be a structural issue based on investigation and notice that i am not alone as a 2008 scion xb owner with this problem. I think this is a manufacturer defect and i am disappointed, i just bought this car used 2 months ago and it has then 20k on it. This is a safety issue for visibility purposes as well as others.

My complaint is about my scion xb 2008. I have had two problems with the front windshield cracking. My first scion xb 2008 had a crack in the windshield that was a stress crack. Toyota of the desert hand my car for a whole month before i got it back and the windshield still wasn't repaired. My car had scratches and was damaged by the company. They even broke the replacement windshield and that's why i had to wait a whole month for it to get back to me. When i complained to the manager he ignored me and just asked me why i had traded in another car that i bought from the there honda dealer. Next my other scion xb has the same issue and now the same company toyota of the desert is saying that this crack is not caused by stress and that i might have to pay $1000.00 dollars to repair the windshield which is not covered by the warranty.

Windshield of 2008 scion xb has cracked three times in less than 18 months. Required replacement of windshield. Safety hazard since these large cracks obscure drivers view of road. Other owners of these vehicles have reported similar situation on various websites (edmunds.com).

Front windshield continues to crack on my 2008 scion xb.

The windshield in the car made creaking noises in cold weather.soon after, 3 large cracks appeared in the windshield.they are each approximately 2-3 feet long.they start at the far edges of three different sides of the windshield areslowly converging in the center.there is no sign of an impact, and i watched the cracks form while sitting in a parking space.i then researched the issue, and now i am afraid to replace the windshield, because from what i hear, i will just have to replace it over and over again.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 153,063.

Driving back from christmas break on december 26, 2009, my radio was playing at a normal volume at aboout 13, and there were no over-passes nor a vehicle within a mile in front or behind me and all of a sudden my sunroof to my 2008 scion tc explodes!it sounded like a gunshot went off right beside my head or a tractor trailor tire blowing beside me but again, nothing or nobody was around.thankfully, my shade was pulled shut since it had just snowed a couple days before then and when it snows i always pull it shut; so it took me a minute to realize my sunroof was missing.glass started coming in through the openings of the shade and the shade itself was blowing crazy since i was driving down the interstate it was catching wind.i pulled off to the side of the interstate to see the damage and the entire glass of my sunroof had completely shattered and there was a huge hole right in the middle where the glass had fallen into the car. I have a picture.once i'd gotten off the interstate and contacted my parents to let them know what happened, i called the police but they said since there was no accident and no one was hurt that they didn't need to be contacted.i contacted my dealer to see if i could store my car over night since the dealership was only a mile away and they told me that this was not the first time a scion tc's sunroof has exploded.so once i got home i researched and sure enough there are several other cases of the exact same thing.i contacted scion and they did repair my vehicle for free but that is not the case.i could have been hurt.if my shade was not pulled i would have probably wrecked.i can no longer drive without my shade not being pulled with fear of the same thing happening again.neither scion or shelor motormile of christiansburg, va could determine the cause of this accident.scion diid apologize but told me the repairs would only be for one time.so if it happens again i'm stuck with a car and a busted sunroof.

2008 toyota scion xb.consumer writes in regards to vehicle window malfunction.the consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer, to have the recall issue addressed. The technician stated there was nothing wrong with the master window switch, but the window motor in the passenger side door was worn and needed to be replaced, at a cost of $ 502.03.the consumer stated the switch malfunctioned months before the recall. The master switch in the driver's door panel for the passenger window would stick in either the full up or full down position and he could hear the electric window motorcontinue to run when the switch was released.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated that while reversing, flames were seen from the driver's side window switch. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

2008 scion windshield crack and no apparent reason.

After owning my 2008 scion xb for 2 months i found a small chip in the windshield.not sure when it happened.that chip has not spread so far.then, my husband and i took a trip to oregon driving on the coast so that we would not get rocks kicked at us from cars on the highway.after 8 days we came home with 3 more chips on our windshield and 2 cracks each measuring approximately 6 inches in length and spreading.we heard 2 separate times where a rock hit the windshield and left the chip; however, the other chip and 2 cracks are unknown how they happened.one morning we came out of our hotel and found the 2nd crack.we were not parked by a lot of cars and we were not by a main street or highway.i have read several sites on the internet where other scion owners are experiencing the same problem with their windshield.this leads me to believe that there needs to be investigation into a recall on the windshield.i plan on getting this windshield replaced in the next month, but if a recall occurs, i hope that i will be reimbursed.

Cracked windshield. Possible design or manufacturing defect. Present in scion xbs years 2006-2008. If you google "xb windshield" you will find numerous posts regarding this issue. Toyota/scion appear to be refusing to acknowledge this issue. I contacted scion and they told me to contact the dealer to look at the windshield. The dealer uses a biased 3rd party glass company who, of course, says the frequency of windshield replacements are no different than any other car. Which, based on the number of internet posts and websites dedicated to this issue and a possible class action law suit, all beg to differ.

Cracked windshield (again!) this is my second xb and i figured the first cracked windshield in my 2006 was a fluke, but no! now i have one in my brand new (2,100 miles) 2008 xb! what the heck?? it has to be a defect.

Cracked windshield...due to stress.

One morning when getting into my (5 mo old) 2008 scion xb i found a 2-3 in. Crack in the windshield that started under the weatherstriping at the a-pillar about 6-8 inches up from the hood on the passenger side.within a short time that day the crack extended up to approx. 12-14 in. In a u shape.due to conflicts i was unable to take the car to the dealer for 2 weeks.by that time the crack had extended about 4-5in. More horizontally across the windshield and a second crack started from the bottom of the u shape extending down to the hood (about 2-3 in).visual examination of the windshield revealed no obvious pits or impact hits.the weatherstripping where the crack initiated also appears free of defects or damage.upon quick review from the dealer they declared that it was cracked due to some impact (rock/pebble/etc...) and refused replacement as factory defect.

2008 scion xb, 5,000 miles, windshield mysteriously cracked, no impact or reason.called dealer and they say they have no reports or recalls.i searched the internet and found many people experiencing the same issue.true safety issue.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota scion xb. The contact stated he noticed there was a fracture on the driver side windshield. There was no evidence of impact on the glass. The dealer was notified and offered no assistance. The manufacturer was notified and instructed him to make a complaint with nhtsa. The failure and current mileages were 22,000.updated 7/13/12*ljupdated 07/17/12

I recently purchased a brand new 2008 scion xb with 125 miles already on the car. I've only had it for a little over 2 weeks and there is a huge crack on my windshield that started on the lower passenger side of the windshield and has now spread to the driver side of the windshield.

Windshield cracked easily.

I was interested in buying a 2008 scion xb. I had heard that the older xbs had a major problem with the windshields spontaneously cracking. They called them "stress cracks" because of the way the frame was and the slope of the windshield. I spoke to a salesman before i bought the new scion about the windshield problem. He told me that the problem was fixed. Today, sept. 12th 2009, i found the l shaped crack that so many people had complained about on the 1st generation xbs. I am contacting the toyota dealership on monday. This is a manufacturer's defect, and i am not about to replace my windshield numerous times (as many other customers have had to do, sometimes 7 or 8 times in 6 months!!!) are there any other complaints about the scion xb windshield?

The windshield on my 2008 scion xb cracked overnight with no apparent stone or impact damage. The service rep at lombard toyota in lombard illinois took a look at it and said it's rock damage. He ran a pen along the crack and came to the conclusion that a stone hit it and will not fix it. The glass is not chipped and there was no sign of an impact, only a crack that runs from the edge of the window to about 5 inches in, on the driver side.at this time i either have my insurance company fix it or pay for it myself. The windshield does not have any stone chips on it and the car only has 15,000 miles.

My scion xb developed a crack in the windshield. There is no reason for it, it just showed up. There is no impact, just a straight crack from the seam that extends about 5-6 inches and then curves to the right about 4-5 inches.

Toyota settled a class action lawsuit for 2006 scion xb windshields, but won't address other years. The windshields are defective and break. Here are my 2008 scion xb windshield problems for the record. In 09/2010 with 20,000 miles, my 1st windshield cracked and had to be replaced. In 05/2013 with 32,715 miles, my 2nd windshield cracked and had to be replaced. This makes my 3rd windshield. Both times a long odd "l" shaped crack, covered a large portion of the windshield. This made visibility and driving impossible and unsafe.

I recently purchased a 2008 scion xb in october of this year (2007) within 2 months of owning the car (approximately on december 20, 2007) i noticed that i had a crack on the left hand side of my windshield that progressively spread in a matter of a day. I took the car to eddy's toyota/scion on december 21, 2007 to have it inspected and fixed under warranty, and i was told that the warranty would not cover the windshield because the service rep. Said that he saw a rock chip that had allegedly caused the crack and rock chips were not covered by toyota. A week and a half later on december 28, 2007 i woke up to discover another crack on my windshield located on the right hand side of my windshield. I took that crack to go be inspected at the dealer, having observed no chips in this one, and i was told yet again that there was a tiny mark that they considered to be a rock chip and that this new crack, which by that time had visibly spread, was also not covered. I am absolutely furious at the lack of responsibility toyota is taking in this matter. I have since called the corporate scion offices and filed a formal complaint which i am waiting to here back on. I also proceeded to do some research and have found that this is anextremely common thing amongst scion owners and they have all experienced the same non responsiveness from the toyota corporation. I bought a toyota product because i valued their workmanship and reliability and now i am beginning to believe that they are cutting corners and not owning up to the defects that are in their vehicles. I have received no customer service in regards to this matter and have basically been told that there is nothing that can be done and that i have to continue to pay whenever my windshield gets damaged. The scion xb windshields are defective and toyota refuses to take responsibility for this matter. This is not only a defect but it is also a safety hazard, one in which i was not told of when purchasing the vehicle.

I have a 2008 scion xb that has developed an" l" shaped stress crack on the upper passenger side of the windshield.there are no rock chips of any kind located near the beginning of the crack.the crack begins under the moulding and continues downward into the "l" shape.i would like to know if toyota will be made to replace this since it seems to be an ongoing problem with scion owners.

2008.2008 scion xb during a 5 hr trip , without getting hit on the windshield by anything at all, the windshield developed a crack starting at the top edge and extending down about 6 inches. I had read about this problem on the edmunds auto website. I went to my local dealer and was told by a service adviser that i was financially responsiblefor the repair, i went to the service manager to complain that this was a problem with these cars, and i was not going to pay for it. He told me that he would contact the toyota rep for the area and would get back to me. They did approve the repair, but i'm afraid this will happen again, its happened more than once to many owners, toyota should be forced to fix this without giving customers a hard time about it.

Rear wheel passenger side out of alignment and can't be fixed. Top side leans inward. Car never been in accident and it has always had a problem of wear on that tire side. It has been brought to my attention by a an alignment technician, that it could be a known issue as he had seen this on many scions. Its been like this since i can remember. Always buying new tires due to this condition. Due to this issue as well, car wants to vier to right most often, even with perfect alignment in the front. Purchased new late 2007
