I was driving along and wanted to put my rear passenger window down slightly to let air circulate.i noticed that it did not move when i hit the control from the front seat.later after i stopped, i went around and opened the door and tried the switch on the door.the window would not open.i contacted scion by email and they took down the information and assigned me case #150808054 and told me to contact them by phone.i did and spoke with lauren who was very gracious and took info from me but had no resolution for the problem and told me the dealership would have to give me a price on repairing it.the dealership contacted me and said it would be between $300 and $500 depending on what was wrong to fix it.the gentlemen told me there was nothing more to be done if scion didn't offer to repair it for me.i am a senior citizen and cannot afford this type of cost to repair a window.therefore i am driving with it unable to open.now as far as i am concerned this is a major safety issue.if someone is in the backseat and for any reason would need to get that window down and couldn't it could be very serious.a window should work as long as the car is on the road and there is nothing to override the electrical system to open the window.this looks like a major safety issue to me.i went online and found that there are a lot of people having this issue with this particular car.scion seems totally unconcerned and offered no help.what can be done if anything?you are my last hope for resolving this...it makes me extremely nervous to know that window cannot be opened for whatever reason it might need to be.i will appreciate any help you can give me on this.thank you.

The door locks failed to operate. I was trapped inside and could not open the doors. The key was also prevented from unlocking the doors. After considerable effort i was able to unlock a rear door and exit there. Later i could neither lock or unlock any of the doors. The car was parked. It did not matter if the engine was running or not or if the "key bob" or door lock switch or manually pulling/pushing the lock lever; nothing would alter the locked status. Gratefulthere was not an emergency such as a fire.

Driver side electric door lock failed to fully unlock door mechanism, manual door lock mechanisms (interior pull & exterior key) ineffective, door does not unlock or unlatch (open) when interior handle pulled, occupant (driver) unable to exit vehicle.

My 2008 scion xb lost power steering as i was driving it. Fortunately, i was able to pull the vehicle over without any creating an accident.after having the vehicle repaired, i was informed that the electronic steering control unit failed without any notice. This is a very serious safety issue that needs attention before someone gets killed!

Door locks will unlock half way unable to exit car. Door locks will click open and close independently while driving and when parked, using key remote to lock car and while walking away i hear car locks click. I walk back to car to find all doors unlocked?rear hatch handle assembly very flimsy. Is not strong enough to pull door open. Mine came off in my hand squeezing the release then pulling it open! cannot open from outside without it or in an emergency. Also without the handle there is no illumination of the license plate which gets you pulled over and gets you a ticket!

I have a toyota 2006 scion xb that i purchased new and am extremely fond of it.in march of 2014, the ignition switch started suspiciously loosening up, moving around when the key was inserted into the ignition and progressed in loosening up to the point where the ignition key was able to be completely pulled out/removed after inserted into the ignition to turn the car on and run the engine.the shockingly dangerous thing was that the engine could continue to run and could be driven.it was a huge safety issue due to engine being at risk of shutting off, losing the ability to steer or engage the brakes and being out of control of the vehicle one is driving.i contacted the toyota dealership and had my scion xb assessed and repaired to the tune of $463.00 at the toyota dealership.the toyota dealership reported no recalls wereissued for this malfunction.i know that gm had a big, intentionally delayed recall, related to this ignition/ignition switch malfunction of some of their vehicles which led to a number of accidents with some deaths resulting.this was reportedly due to accidents where the car is being driven, the ignition/ignition switch malfunctions and the engine stops running.i would like toyota and other scion owners to know that this has occurred and could be potentially lethal.

The contact owns a 2006 scion xb. The contact stated that the fuse box underneath the steering wheel was malfunctioning and the wire was hot, which created a possible fire hazard. The failure also caused the light switch, mirror switch, traction control switch, air bags, and door locks not to work after the failure. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 174,000.

The back hatch door handle looks like it is melted and very sticky. Needs to be replaced. Also when i shift into 3rd gear sometimes i feel a light grinding. It seems to only happen when my car is cold and does not happen after my car is warmed up. I hope it nothing wrong with the transmission. I have taken it to a mechanic they said nothing is wrong, very strange.

This is the second time my 2006 scion xb has accelerated when i stepped on the brake. This time it happened when i was going uphill about 30 miles an hour. When i stepped on the brake, the engine accelerated and began racing. I was able to brake to a stop, but the only way to get the engine to slow was to turn off the ignition and restart the car. As with the previous incident, it's impossible that i was accidentally stepping on the accelerator, since i used the brake to bring the car to a halt. It was scary the first time. It was scary this time too.

Jan 31, 2011 - 2006 scion xb with appx. 38,000 miles stalled on the freeway at 65 mph with no apparent cause. I was able to safely coast down an exit ramp and waited appx. 5 minutes before restarting the car. It performed perfectly after that. After looking into it on the internet and realizing that i am not the only one who has experienced this problem, i have now contacted the dealership and am awaiting a response. No corrective action has been taken to date.

Engine: on wednesday february 12, 2010 my 2006 scion xb, while driving on the freeway at approx 70mph. My engine shut off - no power - none!! no warning - just shut off!!! -while driving on the freeway. Aside from vehicles attempting to avoid hitting my vehicle and attempting to also avoid hitting others- i could have been killed and this complete engine failure while driving could have killed others as well. Of course i was over my warranty for this partcular coverage by approx 1,000 miles. Guess what the toyota dealer took care of the issue, which they stated was the "crank sensor". They seeemed hesitant to fully provide an explanation, which of course i want and need as i am very hesitant to drive the vehicle. There has to be some sort of warning, you can't just be driving and have your engine shut off, engine won't turn-over, no steering, very little braking ability!i am very concerned, very - the warranty for this type of service was expired, although the car was repaired by the toyota dealer service department and i appreciate this more than you know. I asked for answers and their lack of communication/information concerns me.

- the contac complainedagainst toyota.the contact ownsa 2006 scion xb special editionshe purchased inmarch 2006.thethe vehicle had a costume muffler that overlaped2 to 3 inches out of the rear passenger side bumper.this partwasan option, but on this vehicle itwas standard.the contact stated that on december 28, 2006, after parking in n the driveway and opening the rear door of the vehicle her 16 year old step daughter suffered a burn when her right leg came in contact with the exhaust pipe.the second incident occurred on january 1, 2007, when her step daughter was in the rear of the vehicle talking to friends and one of them suffered a similar burn on his/her right leg. The contact felt that the manufacturer should be able to provide a safer muffler on this vehicle.

I own a 2006 scion xb and approximately 1 year ago had the accelerated stick to the floor mat after accelerating to pass another vehicle. Upon passingi took my foot off the accelerator and the car continued to gain speed. The gas pedal got stuck in the winter floor mat i had. It required me to use my foot and pull up on the gas pedal to release it. Since theni have always been cautious of this and have not had another problem. However, after reading about the issues with toyota and lexus i am concerned that this is also a problem withscion vehicles. Felt i should report this to someone.

Due to the upright position of the windshield a small rock can cause stars which lead to multiple leader cracks.due to grill design and position of a/c condenser a small rock can puncture causing a leak and require replacement costs of up to $1100 on a 4 month old car.toyota needs to realize that their design has major flaws with positioning.unfortunately, rocks are everywhere and if you drive any at all on the freeway you are surely going to encounter some.

1) general use of vehicle. 2) when using right hand side direction indicator, during canceling, either by hand or automatically through turning the steering wheel back into the straight ahead position, the left hand side indicators may briefly light up, causing potential confusing signaling to other road users. 3) turn indicator stalk has been replaced under warranty, but same problem re-appeared.

Car was parked after being driven in normal conditions.when car was started, stability control, trac off and check engine light were lit.took car to repair shop.lights were reset, indications were there was a loose clamp.two days later, the same thing happened.the mechanic stated there was a possibility i had gotten bad gas. Prior to all this, i had purchased a full tank of gas, but noticed as i was coming home from work after making the purchase that the car seemed "sluggish" at times, almost to the point of stalling out.it never stalled out.he suggested putting an additive in my fuel tank, reset the lights and i went on.the next day, the same thing happened.went back to the mechanic.he did a deeper diagnosis.again he stated the same 10 fuel-related codes came up.he stated i should go to the dealership to confirm the diagnosis of a canister problem.i went to the toyota dealership.they confirmed that the evaporator canister was in need of replacement, as well as the fact i needed a new gas cap.i purchased a new gas cap, and am currently waiting for the evaporator canister to come in to get the car repaired.i am hoping it will be repaired 4/1/11.

In the process of slowing down in order to pull over and park the vehicle, the car began to speed up.tried applying the foot brake, but nothing happened.it was as though the gas pedal was stuck.immediately put the car in park, but could hear the car revving up.applied the emergency brake for safety. Had the car towed to residence.

Sometimes when i need quick response power from the engine it doesn't not have power to accelerate.i have to step on the accelerator a few less than full and the vehicle run like a turtle and after 4000 rpm the power start to come.this is a problem at intersections, traffic lights when i really are a low speed car at traffic when start to run.also the automatic transmission change up to overdrive at 35 mph too quick getting worst the acceleration when you are normal driving.is not "check engine" indication but one automotive mechanic after he drive says than the engine have a bog problem too lean fuel mixture. When he turn off the a/c the problem is less he says is because the idle control valve don't by pass air at throttle and it's less air getting at the engine withouttps registration.

There is a tsb for the xa models of this same year.my vehicle has same design of emision system as the xa and seems to be the same problem.the fuel filler neck allows water to intrude into the charcoal canister evap. System and therefore causing failure of the system.

The handle for the back hatch on my 2006 scion xb has broken.it is still connected by the wires.the handle is very flimsy and there is nothing else to grab onto when trying to open the hatch.i haven't gotten it into the dealer yet, so i don't know how much it will be to fix.

I have a 2006 scion xb. The back latch (made of fiberglass) has completely broken off on one side. It is impossible to use and is impossible to get into the car using the rear entrance. It is expensive to repair. This is a safety hazard in that if some one was in the car in an accident or ifthis was the only access to get into the car to help victims access is not available. I have seen 4 cars of this model just in my area that have the same problem. If you have to wait until there is an actual accident this is a inferior system!

2006 scion xb driver door often will not unlock from the inside. Driver must climb out through window or passenger door. Not repaired yet.

Back hatch door handle broken & license plate light hanging.

The electronic door locks on the car will often open only halfway, preventing the occupant from exiting the vehicle. Both front doors are affected, but the drivers door is affected more often. It is difficult if not impossible to unlock the door manually when this happens. Repeating the unlock process several times is the only way to get the lock to open. This was taken to the dealer for repair, but they told us that the locks were working fine when they had it and that they could not work on it unless they saw the problem actually occurring. I keep a window hammer in the car now.

Driver side electric door lock failed to fully unlock door mechanism, manual door lock mechanisms (interior pull & exterior key) ineffective, door does not unlock or unlatch (open) when interior handle pulled, occupant (driver) unable to exit vehicle.

When we attempted to exit the vehiclewe were not able to unlock the doors. The locks would only go up about half ways then lock again.i did some online searching and see there are many people who have had the same complaint.my concern is if in a car accident you can not unlock the doors and you can become trapped in your vehicle.you can notevenunlock the doors manually.

Car doors lock when ignition is turned on. If you try to get out of the car without waiting for the doors to unlock, the driver door will not unlock. If you do not time-it-right the lock jams halfway up and and you can not manually exit the vehicle.the only way you can open the door is three ways; with the power door lock button, turn the car on or use the unlock button on the alarm.problem >>>no manual override in case of emergency!!!

My fiance and i were on our ay home from playing pool in morpark, ca friday night when we got on the 118 freeway going the wrong way. When we realized we needed to go west instead of east, my fiance got on the erringer rd. Exit to turn around. By this time i was asleep and don't remember anything from when we got on the freeway to waking up saturday morning. But,his experience was this, we got off on the erringer rd. Exit, he went to make the u-turn to get on the 118 west. Halfway through the turn, the passenger side door i was resting on popped open and i was sucked out of the car going about 30 mph.the doors were locked and no door adjar light was on, i thoughti was safe. My fiance quickly pulled the car over and carried me to the car.he said i looked dead.he knew i was alive because he said he heard "crying like" noises. I very well could be dead. The next morning we took pictures with the newspaper.the pictures are very graphic and they explain the danger of this defect more than words.

Two occurrences within 3 days, unintended full acceleration - accelerator stuck at full throttle.

On 4 separate incidents, my car accelerated on it's own while sitting still. The last incident was on march 23rd while i was sitting still in a mcdonald's drive thru. My foot was on the brake and the car suddenly acted as if i had stepped fully down on the gas pedal. I had to really push my foot down on the brake to keep it from lunging forward. I immediately pushed it into park and the car stopped accelerating. This is very dangerous and i am extremely worried it will happen again!

Manual transmission clutch pivot bolt failed while vehicle was at speed. Clutch pedal stopped working, transmission stuck in gear and could not be shifted into neutral. Required evasive actions to avoid collision.mechanic disassembled transmission and located sheared off pivot bolt lying loose inside transmission casing. Mechanic stated that in their experience, incident was very unusual and not a common occurrence: in their opinion, cause was likely a manufacturing fault in bolt. Mechanic confirmed that rest of transmission and clutch showed no signs of premature wear or driver abuse.

The drivers side seatbelt where it attaches to the base between the seats is loose. The tailgate hatch assembly broke off. This is the only way to open the trunk and it is a cheap piece of plastic attached to the hatchback with 2 screws. As i was trying to open the trunk, the whole assembly came off in my hand. I have seen this in several other scions around town.

The driver seat suddenly went back skipping multiple seat settings. Luckily, i am fairly strong (as well as the steering column) i was able to hold on to the steering wheel until i was able to come to a complete stop. Before the seat failed, i did not change any seat position (i probably adjusted it a week before it happened). It happened again in february, that time it happened to me immediately after putting the automatic transmission in park the seat dropped back one position back. After all this all happened i took my car to my local dealer (toyota of tampa bay) where they looked at the seat and said they could not find anything wrong. I am slightly suspicious that they did fix something but did not want to admit that there is a problem. This could have caused a serious accident if this happened to someone else or if i was driving faster (e.g. On the interstate) where smaller adjustments to the steering can cause severe injuries, if not fatalities.

Seat release button stays opened and does not lock back up. Safety issue, because the seat will move if not locked in place.

I own a 2006 scion xb release series 3.0 envy green and the head rest monitors that came from factory has failed. The first time the monitors failed to work was back on july 20 and ever since the monitors will not work or it will turn on for a few seconds and shuts off and will not turn on again. I have tried to turn it on every time i have the kids in the back but unfortunately cannot make it work. I am also a member of a numerous scion website forums and spoke to some of the rs3.0 owners and found out that they also had the same problems, and i was surprise to find out that one of the members had the same issue on the same exact date i had mine and we were at the same scion event. I was told by that member that he had taken his to a scion dealership and he was informed by that service dept that scion/toyota knew there was a problem with the unit module for the monitors and the dealership replaced the part for free of charge. My problem is that of all 3 scion dealerships i have contacted none would admit of such issue including the dealership where i purchased mine. Please help resolve this issue and for other rs3.0 owners out there that are not aware of the problem soon to happen.

Was leaving the house, got in car, started engine, put my foot on the brake then put the gear shift into reverse and proceeded to pull out of garage when all of a sudden for no reason whatsoever the car just took off on its own too fast, while my foot was still on the brake, the car accelerated too quickly and i nearly crashed into the neighbor's garage door.

In cold temperatures the brake pedal freezes and you can not push the pedal. The car does not respond.seems to act in exactly the same way that the recall for the 2008-09 models!

Today, 3/19/10 at around 9:30 a.m. I was driving my 2006 toyota scion home from the dentists office.nearing the top of a hill my throttle stuck in the full position and the brake pedal failed to depress.i put the transmission in neutral, the engine revved at high speed, i returned the transmission to drive and the problem persisted.i repeated the gear change and the second time the engine and transmission respond properly.i called my local toyota dealer who offered no help unless i can repeat the problem.p.s.i am (and have been) a state licensed vehicle safety & emissions inspector (ma)by profession.prior to this i was a state licensed mechanic & vehicle emissions inspector (ca).

Bought new 2006 toyota xb feb 14 2006 may 10 steering column froze....while making turn. Hit curb...called toyota they sent a national rep to dealership...looked at car and said "driver fault... Nothing wrong with toyota...so we had the car fixed with our insurance... The car was fixed $1000.00 deductible and state farm was stuck with $6500.00 toyota said" car is running great" drove for 3 day's... Column froze again i was following behind my son, saw what was happening and drove my car in betweentraffic to block him from being hit.... It could have been really bad. They took the car back to the dealer... Now they want to replace the entire steering column... Sending another toyota rep... Who can't get here for 2 weeks.... The car was only $17,000 to start with barely has 4,000 miles...when the tow truck driver came... He said a week ago he wouldn't have believed it was possible... Now he has heard this story before.

The handle for the back hatch on my 2006 scion xb has broken.it is still connected by the wires.the handle is very flimsy and there is nothing else to grab onto when trying to open the hatch.i haven't gotten it into the dealer yet, so i don't know how much it will be to fix.

I bought a used '06 scion xb in aug. '07 & w/in a week my windshield(ws) was leaking bigtime. There were no cracks & the carfax report came back clean w/ no prior accidents. I called the dealer & since it was under warranty they had a local ws co. Replace the ws. That weekend i washed my car & noticed water running down the inside of the ws again by the rearview mirror. Still no obvious reason of why it should be leaking. I was extremely concerned about electrical issues w/ the water & the fact that i live in portland which meant lots of rain. I called the dealer again & this time i asked for another co. To replace the glass, thinking the other co. Had just done a bad job. After the 2nd time of fixing it i thought everything was fine until i noticed loud popping & cracking noises while driving. A couple of the pops were so loud it scared me because it sounded like the whole ws cracked, but there were no visible cracks. Just in case i was hearing things, i had my husband ride along & he heard the same noises. A week or two later, i noticed that when the ws was fogging there were stream lines from water on the left inside and i knew those shouldn't be there because the last co. Had put in a brand new ws. Later, i finally noticed water dripping in the same spot & i knew it was leaking again. Frustrated & not wanting to deal w/ it, i continued to drive the car with a leaky ws for about week, until i went through a car wash & noticed a strong stream of water running down the left inside of the ws inside the car. The following monday (today) i called the dealership. I'm taking the car in tonight. I'm suggesting, some sort of extra strength seal & possibly a sway bar to stabilize the vehicle more. If this doesn't work then i want to trade it in for a newer xb or possibly something else. My warranty is only for 100,000 miles & i'm half way there & i don't want to get to the point where i have to start paying to replace any of this when it is obviously a flaw with the car.

I noticed a few weeks ago that when i tried to open the lift gate, that my fingers were covered in a black mushy substance. The switch to open the door was completely melted and would barely open. My wife and i don't usually use the hatch door, so i don't know how long its been in this condition . We have been very happy with the scion up to this point.i found out that many others are having this same problem and feel totally disappointed in toyota's product. I'm seriously planning on taking this flaw to the media since the door may not even open in an emergency. The others have told me that it is no longer covered by warranty, and toyota refuses to fix the problem. The dealership wants over $200.00 to fix it. I feel it is a flaw that toyota should repair and not me. The part was probably made in china and is junk.the car has always been kept in the carport and never abused.

The front windshield of my 2006 scion xb developed a crack while i was driving and no other cars were in front of me to toss rocks.there was no impact from a rock or anything before the crack appeared.i heard a pop and discovered the crack.the pop sound was not the normal rock on the windshield sound. There is no sign of any impact on the outside of the windshield in this area. The crack developed in the area behind the rearview mirror and is an "l" shaped crack.the first day the crack was about 8-10" in length and has progressed another 2-4" over the last four months.i feel there is a problem with the design of this vehicle that is causing so many xb owners to have the exact same issue.

The contact owns a 2006 scion xb. The contact stated that the rear hatch was disconnected from the body. The contact placed the hatch back into place.the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the two top hinges needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 100,000.

Rear right lip of the bumper fell off while driving.

Dt*: the contact stated there are numerous rust spots located on the lift gate and front passenger side door frame.the dealership and manufacturer have been alerted and denied the problem.they explained this is a paint defect. Updated 6/30/2006 - the consumer believes that the rust may have developed as a result of weld splatter.the rust appeared at the junction between the door frame and opposing rubber door seal.

The rear hatch handle on my 06 scion xb has broken off on the right side and now just hangs there. I can hardly ever get into my trunk because of this. I am worried that it will come off completely as i am driving down the road and become a dangerous hazard for another driver.also the rear latch button rubber cover becomes so hot that it begins to melt. When you push the button it will leave black reidue on your hands. This prevents the button from working and unlatching the back hatch.not sure if it is melting due to electrical problems or the sun. Worried could get to hot and catch fire sometime.

The vehicles rear hatch handle has a design flaw which makes the part fail.the rear hatch handle is fastened to the trunk/hatch with plastic clips.when the release button for the hatch is pressed, it only unlocks the hatch door.it does not spring upward like other vehicles.in the manual it shows to hold the release button and lift with the hatch handle.because there are no springs to help lift it applies lots of pressure to the clips which weaken them.eventually, they just snap.they are also known for snapping when the hatch is locked, in cold weather, and there are even reports of the release button melting. Another problem develops when the hatch handle is completely removed after failing.there are holes for the clips which are left open if this piece is not attached.these holes can allow exhaust and other emissions into the vehicle.lastly, there is a possibility of becoming trapped in the vehicle.if there were an accident that left the side doors inoperable and the person(s) in the vehicle were able to exit safely through the hatch, they are unable to do so.this vehicle is not equipped with any type of manual release (which is not required by law).however, rescuers cannot open the hatch from the outside either.this is because when this defective part breaks off, it leaves the dangling release button.consumers are capping the wires so it doesn't rip off while driving. There is now no way to exit the vehicle.

Problem #1: front windshield cracked. I replaced the windshield and it cracked again on the replacement. A small pebble hit the windshield while driving on the freeway that caused it to crack. Problem #2: rear hatch handle broke when it was used. I opened the rear hatch handle and the plastic piece broke off in the process almost injuring my hand. I contacted scion about the situation they that they were aware of. They required me to receive an assessment from the dealer. I drove to my nearest dealer and they did not require an assessment because they said the problem was already known. I contacted scion again and they get back to me for a solution. The solution was for me to replace the rear handle with a high price amount. The rear handle expensive should have been taken care of on scion's end, especially when a near injury could have take place. I received case number for my records.

Takata recall:vehicle was stationary.back trunk failed to open. Trunk door switch release button cover w/ screws are hanging along with wire. Button is stuck.

The handle to my back trunk door is made of some sort of plastic and living in the south has possibly caused it to start melting.it has slowly melted, dripping tar like material onto my rear bumper of my scion xb.every time i open my trunk, the black tar material will end up on my hands and i am unsure of how safe this product is to my health.

The rubber piece that covers the switch for the rear hatch has melted for the third time.i had it replaced under warranty the first time and then again when the whole garnish fell off and was replaced under a "warranty enhancement".in other words a recall because it had happened to so many scion xb owners.i am very disappointed that they continue to replace a defective part with a defective part!now i am supposed to fork out $90.00 for another part that is going to eventually do the same thing.this is clearly a widespread problem.all you have to do is a search for "melted swich covers on scion xb" on your computer and it brings up many sites.there are blogs and even a facebook page dedicated to the faulty handles!when there are companies who are making a profit producing enhanced replacement parts for your car because toyota won't something is wrong.i will be buying my replacement parts from them.very disappointed in toyota.

2006 toyota scion xb rear hatch release. It broke without any faulty use. The toyota replacement is not substantial enough to repair the problem. The broken part interferes with the plate lights, the electric hatch release and allows exhaust fumes to enter vehicle through normally covered holes. I just want to list my complaint along with the other several thousand having the same problem. Thank you.

I purchased my scion xb 2006 in august of 2006. Last week, wed. July 9, 2008, an l shaped crack appeared on my front windshield. It appeared overnight out of nowhere. I discovered it in the morning. There are no signs of trauma to the windshield. The crack starts at the very top edge of the windshield and goes in an l shape. The next morning (thur, july 10) a second l-shaped crack appeared in my windshield in the same fashion. This one is on the lower left side and also starts at the very edge of the windshield. Again, there was no trauma to the windshield and the crack appeared out of nowhere. The two cracks are now heading toward each other, and i am worried this defective windshield will crack. After researching this issue online and talking to mechanics, i have found out that this is a common defect in the scion xb 2006 model. Many owners have reported l-shaped cracks appearing out of nowhere and filed complaints. The mechanic i spoke with said that he has replaced many cracked windshields on scion xb's. He attributes what he termed this design defect to the fact that the car sits so low and the steep grade of the windshield. I know you have received numerous other complaints about this problem, and i urge you to take action.

Jan 24 2006 i was driving to work (around 45 mph) in my 2006 toyota scion and my windshield started to crack. I pulled over to see if it was cracking because of some type of impact (say a rock), or just looking to see what was happening. And at the time i did not see anything but the 6-7 inch cracking of my windshield. I came to work and asked other people to look and they did not see any type of debris damage.i called the toyota dealer were i purchased it...and then told me to bring it in. Jan 25 2006 i took my toyota in, and they informed me that the crack (and continuously crackingstill today) was caused by impact of a stone (or something) and my warranty would not cover it. I explained that there was no way the windshield should crack like that, and if it was not a stress crack--then the windshield is defective. [i mean were the safety--what if i as in an accident]. They sent me on my way and recommended that i get it fixed. I asked if it was safe to drive and they told me yes. So i came to work. I was looking online...only to discover that i am not alone...that this seems to be a problem with a lot of 2006 toyota scions...and i found this web site.

Hello to whom it may concern: this has happened twice first time it was fixed they (dealer) never explained just what they fixed, second it happened again both times it broke upon opening they(dealer) the second time wanted 285 bucks to repairit appears to be just simple clips that broke?this isclearly safety related for emergency exit if locks fail or airbags fail to deploy or even if the bags deploy the electrical component(s) may have a system failure and exiting out through the rear or even doing an emergency evac if there is a engine fire opening from the outside is more than likely not possible even if it's possible how about break ins? i have a question any mandates for repairs at dealer cost of the rear door latch handle and lock?

I was driving very slowly in a parking lot and had braked at a 3 way. I turned slowly with my foot gently on the gas pedal to go into a parking space and the car suddenly accelerated and went into the abutment of the parking space. I was able to brake.

A rock went thru my grille stright into the air condition compressor.although not a safety issue, this same thing happened to my granddaughter who lives in another state.the repair costs are around $700.00i believe there are more of us out there and that the grille is an unsafe issue for my car.

I was pulling into my driveway when my car accelerated uncontrollably. I applied the brake with both feet and could not stop. I hit my other car in the driveway and that stopped me but damaged both vehicles. Since this occurred on private property i did not contact police.

While braking car started to slid and suddenly accreted what seemed like full throttle. I managed to get the car in park while engine was revving and tired continued to spin. I had to turn switch off to stop car from lunging forward and tires spinning. All of this happened on a city street and i tried to turn left to get car off of main road.

While the contact was stopped in traffic with the vehicle placed in park the vehiclesuddenly accelerated without warning causing the contact to crash into the vehicle in front of her. No one was injured, a police report was filed for the incident. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 97000.

We were driving down a seattle boulevard at about 40 miles an hour on the way to the airport when i put my foot on the brake pedal to stop for a red light. Instead of slowing, the engine sped up. I managed to get the car to stop by stomping on the brake, but at full stop the engine started revving toward 5000 rpm, the car was straining forward, and the only way to solve the problem was to turn off the ignition. On restarting the car, the problem went away. I called the dealer, whose service folks said there were no service notices about the issue. The next time i took the car in, there were no error codes in the electronics. There hasn't been a recurrence. But the incident was more than unsettling; it was downright scary.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xb. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The contact was able to decelerate after force was applied to the brake pedal. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was not notified of the acceleration failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xb. While driving in a parking lot at approximately 4 mph , the contact struck a curb. The vehicle experienced unintended acceleration going through several curves, down an embankment, crashed through two metal fences, and landed in a fountain of approximately three feet of water. The front air bags failed to deploy. The stability control system did not activate. A police report was filed and no injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to a lot. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

My car, a 2006 scion xb, while driving on surface streets began to rapidly accelerate out of control. When i tapped on the brakes several times, it slowed down and stopped the acceleration. I brought the car to bev smith toyota & scion, where the technicians determined that the cruise control software malfunctioned. It is important to note that the cruise control was off when this occurred. They believe that the software caused the issue.

When i was pulling up to the car in front of me at a light, having just exited a highway, my car accelerated instead of slowing to a stop. I was able to pull into the next lane over to avoid hitting the car in front of me. Luckily there were no cars coming or in that lane already. I was not hurt nor did any damage. This is one of three instances of unintended aceleration. The other two were while parking. No injury or damage has occurred with any of the incidences.

The contact owns a 2006 scion xb. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly accelerated while her husband was driving. The engine began to rev up so the driver depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle would not stop accelerating. He turned off the ignition, re-started the vehicle and pulled to the side of the road. After re-starting the vehicle, the failure no longer occurred.the contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealership but did contact the manufacturer; she was told that her model was not included in recall 10v017000. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date. The current mileage was approximately 21,717. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000

The spring which brings the gas pedal back up after you push it, fell off it's mounting.so when you push the gas, the gas stays pushed.i went to the dealer and they reinstalled the same spring.but i feel this part should be mounted more securely.i found out about the problem while my car was in "park" in my driveway.had it happened when i was driving, i could have been hurt or killed.is this a pattern, are dealerships required to report this.i do not believe there was a recall pertaining to this problem on this vehicle. - thank you [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2006 scion xb--- we have experienced same gas pedal problem on four or five occasions in the last two years.the vehicle either did not slow when the gas pedal was depressed and in two instances the vehicle actually began to accelerate while going uphill approaching slowing traffic.re: toyota recall not on scion models?

In the process of slowing down in order to pull over and park the vehicle, the car began to speed up.tried applying the foot brake, but nothing happened.it was as though the gas pedal was stuck.immediately put the car in park, but could hear the car revving up.applied the emergency brake for safety. Had the car towed to residence.

I was driving in traffic going about 65mph. Traffic began to slow and when i tried to slow my car the engine began to rev up. Traffic came slower and i was able to turn off the engine, put the car in neutral and then restart the engine. After restarting the engine it reved again and again turned it off and on and the engine reset and ran smoothly. This happened once before about a year after we bought the car but i don't remember the date. We did not take it to the service center.

I was on my way home from work and when i came to a stop light, i tried to come a stop and when i tried to brake the car kept driving and i wrecked in to a fence and crashing into a tree.

Sudden acceleration of car while transitioning from the accelerator to the brake in a 2006 scion xb.

I was in motion going about 35 miles per hour. I accelerated rapidly up to 40 mph and when i eased off the gas, the car continued to rev/accelerate. I tried pushing the brake but the car resisted. I changed gears into neutral (i have an automatic) and though it revved really loudly, when i put it back into drive, it was responsive again to the gas and brake.

The cruise control does not respond to the on/off reset button being pushed. The events leading up to the failure are difficult to describe because the failure occurs randomly when i am driving on the expressway and engage the cruise control. Once engaged the cruise control does not respond to the on/off button and on at least one occasion the car had tobe turned off twice to get the device to reset. We contacted aftermarket quality accessories that installed the cruise control and the dealer kerry toyota scion of florence where we bought the car. We were told by aqa there is nothing wrong with the cruise control. The cruise control continues to be a problem with the most recent incident occurring on 12/11/10. We learned through a search of the internet that there was a recall on this cruise control on the 2006 scion xb but we were told that recall applied only to factory installed cruise controls. The cruise control on our car is a rostra model and was installed at the dealership prior to our taking possession of the car. The consumer discovered a recall had been issued regarding the cruise control. When the consumer arrived at the dealer, he was informed the recall only pertained to cruise controls that were installed at the factory. Updated ivoq 02/18/11updated ivoq 03/18/11

17 inch crack just behind the rear view mirror. Long crack starting at the rubber of the windshield going 7 inches down, crack turns in a 90 degree angle 10 inches towards the passenger. No impact, crack was not there when i parked my car. Crack present when i got in my car the next morning. Will be getting the windshield repaired tomorrow. Will not have it replaced at this time since there has been a lot of issue of the windshield cracking again from other scion xb owners. I don't have the resources to keep replacing windshield as many other have had done.

2006 scion xb. While parked in driveway overnight, a large crack developed running down behind the rearview mirror and then making a 90 degree turn towards the driver side.

I own a 2006 scion xb and parked the car in a parking lot. Upon my return i found a crack in my windshield that started on the lower right side, went in about 2 inches, up about 6 inches, and then left about 12 inches. It does not appear that there was any impact or rock chip to initiate the crack.

The windshield on my 2006 scion xb has been replaced twice and currently has a crack in it. The first crack appeared 6 weeks after purchasing the car and the dealer replaced it free. The second time it cracked i wasn't aware that there were problems with other scion windshields and replaced it myself 2 weeks later for $226.63. Now i have another crack in the windshield but haven't fixed it because i know it will crack again.

Front windshield developed an 'l' shaped crack from the top center ofthe windshield behind the rearview mirror extending to the passenger side. At first i thought something hit it on my way home and for some reason i didn't notice... When i inspected it, there was no sign of anything hitting it, no ding no anything, it seemed to just appear overnight. I took it to the dealer only to be told that i had gone over the 36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty by a couple hundred miles. I love my car, but the more i read the more discouraged i get. It seems if i pay to replace the windshield, it will only break again. If i don't have it replaced, i could be decapitated or crushed in an accident. For only having 36700 miles that shouldn't have happened unprovoked.

I was referred to this site by another website, myscioinsucks.com, and i am so glad i was! i have been waiting for my dealership to do something about this and have not been in real pursuit of any justice until recently. I have a cracked windshield on my scion 2006 xb. I really wanted justice when i almost got into another scion exactly like mine the other day with the same crack in it's windshield. I have now been waiting for almost a year on something to be said by them about a recall when i go to get my oil changed. Not one breath of anything yet. I am a very passive person, sometimes too passive but not anymore with this issue. I got the crack in my windshield in the end of november of 2007. I am financially strapped, or check to check as most say and could not afford to get it fixed and didn't see a need to if it wasn't my fault. As i said, why spend my money when toyota wont admit to anything. I woke up to find this crack in my windshield on a very mild temp. Day of about 70 i believe. Neither hot nor cold. I remember vividly. I got in my car to go to work and noticed this l-shaped crack starting from the passenger side curving down and going toward the driver's side. I drove about 2 weeks later after having the car looked at in toyota dealership, on a 5 hours trip and another crack started appearing from the bottom midline.... And progressed upward and left toward the driver side, and by the end of the trip it was over a foot in length. Appearing to be stress from an 80 mph speed majority of the trip. I have asked toyota about it many times and never once was it their fault. I just recently go online after seeing my 5th 2006 xb cracked windshield identical to mine. I am wanting it fixed and nothing more and cannot get any answers.

On september 25 th my family and i went to the fair in our town in our 2006 scion xb. Came home parked it in the drive way and the next morning we got up went outside around 10:00 a.m. To wash our cars and the windshield in the scion was broken. There is a crack from the rear view mirror in a v shape going half way down the windshield. I have been looking line and have found that this happens with this car.there was even a class action law suite on in.

My 2006 scion xb has a crack on the front windshield, starting from the center top extending straight downward approximately 6 inches and then proceeds to crack in the direction towards the drivers side which again extends another 6 inches.the crack has no visible point of impact from a rock or foreign object and originates from on top of the windshield behind the trim. Upon further investigation and searching online i found many other scion xb consumers who share the same exact crack similar to mine.it is clearly due to the toyota oem windshield being defective, causing the windshield to crack on its own.the scion xb was parked in a parking lot in residential when first noticed.

Windshield cracked from top center down 5"turned to pass side went 13" , 2nd same time started on right pillar across center ended just under other, happened when defrosters were on for about 15 mins and outside temp was 10 degrees or a little less. This happened while driving 25-30 mph on major road ,wakefield area, making a slight turn (bend)in road to right.

I purchased a new 2006 scion xb in july 2006.in february 2007, i turned on the defrost for the first time and the windshield cracked exactly in the middle about 5" straight up curved toward the driver for about 9" and then curved up again about 1 1/2".there were no other cracks in the windshield.i took it to the dealer who ran a pen digging into the crack saying there must have been some prior damage.there wasn't any prior damage to the windshield.

I have a 2006 scion xb with only 9,000 miles on it, and i am about to replace the windshield for the third time with the same exact l-shape crack that begins at the top center goes down about 6 inches and then to the left 6 inches. No rock damage or other damage can be attributed to this. There is some kind of defect to cause a windshield to constantly crack in the same place every time with the same look.

Parked my car (2006 scion xb) outside one evening.woke the next morning and there was a large l-shaped crack near the rearview mirror.no rock or impact damage occurred, just a crack appeared.about 4 days later, not only had that crack grown, but i now had a new crack jutting in from the passenger side.both cracks exceed well over 18 inches.there is nothing of my doing or of an accident involved in these cracks.i have visited a number of online forums, and this appears commonplace with these xbs and their owners.it seems there is too much stress in the design on the glass, and it cracks at will.anyways, it appears to be a defect, and i do not want to pay $500 for a new windshield that is only to crack again at the slightest temperature change.please help us.scion needs to fix this issue.this isn't a spark plug...these windshields are $500 and we shouldn't have to replace them.

I came out to my car and the windshield had an l- shaped crack, thats it. The car was sitting in my driveway.

My scion was parked in a garage. The next morning when i went to get in the car i noticed a 12 inch crack in my windshield that started on the far drivers side and curved a little then went straight towards the middle of the car. The date of the crack was 4/19/08. Toyota replaced the window on 4/22/08. I got into my car on 4/27/08 to go to a friends house 1 hour later i got into my car and there was another crack in my windshield. It started at the bottom of the window in the middle of the windshield and came up about 5 inches and curved towards the driver side for about 5 or 6 inches.

My vehicle has not been driven but approximately 0.5 miles in 4 days. On the 5th day i got in my vehicle to drive and there was an "l" shaped crack across my windshield. This crack was not there the last time i drove my vehicle. The origin of the crack begins under the seam where the windshield meets the top of the car a few inches towards the driver's side of the vehicle. The crack then goes straight down for approximately 6 inches and then angles sharply towards the passenger side of the vehicle and continues for approximately 12 inches. There is no chip, crack, or nick that appears to be the cause of this large "l" shaped crack. The reason for the crack is completely unknown.

Found a l-shaped crack in my windshield. It starts from the top of the windshield on the driver's side and ends right underneath the rear view mirror. My windshield did not have a crack when i left my car the night before. It is a very fine crack and doesn't look as if something hitthe glass. Took my car into the dealership . The service manager proceeded to run a ballpoint pin through the crack and told me that it would not be covered because there was pitting.

A crack appeared in the windshield of my car while it was parked in my driveway.there was no trauma to the windshield prior to this crack appearing.

Around march 2008, i pebble hit my scion xb windshield and caused a small crack. About a week later the windshield cracked in different places and i had to get it replaced. Recently, on august 4th, 2008, another pebble hit my windshield and another crack. And today august 27th, 2008, my friend who has an xb also got a crack on her windshield from a small pebble. I looked online for some sort of explanation and it seems that tons of scion xb owners are complaining of such a defect on their windshields. So i am also here to complain about this problem since im going through my 2nd windshield.

I own a 2006 scion xb. The windshield cracked (at the edge) for no apparent reason in march 2008, and it was indicated by the dealer that it was due to installation. The windshield was replaced at no charge. It has cracked once again, december 2008, once again along the edge of the windshield. I have not had an opportunity to have it looked at to see if the dealer will replace it once again for no charge. This is also an inconvenience as the dealership is one hour from my home.

Window has an l shaped cracked that appeared. I took it to the dealership, they said there is a small chip at the top. I cannot find the chip. My father in law looked. The man spent 30 years making automotive glass and could not find it.

My car was parked in my driveway over night.the next day when i went outside to wash the car i noticed there was a very large 'l' shaped crack running the length of approx. 3' from the top of the windshield down, then curving and running for another 17' towards the driver's side.this large of a crack happened overnight!!the crack has seemingly appeared out of nowhere as there is no other damage that the crack would have originated from; it appears to begin under the trim of the windshield. I have done quite a bit of research and discovered that this same problem has been experienced by many other scion xb owners.this would lead me to believe that the windshields toyota installed in the xb model are defective. Again, my car was parked in my driveway overnight and i live in a very quiet residential neighborhood.

I have a 2006 scion xb and in february of 2007 app. 4 months after purchasing my car the windshield developed a crack in it, there was no sign of a rock hitting no noise i just looked up and it was cracked. The dealer replaced the window and just yesterday sep. 14, 2008 i got in my car and there was another crack i here a popping noise the night before and the next morning there was an l shaped crack in it.

The windshield cracked on the driver side at eye level. From the side of the windshield at the roof support moving towards the middle of the shield. The crack occurred overnight while the vehicle sat in our garage . It did not experiences any type of impact. No repair has been made only an estimate of replacement cost.

This is my second complaint around this issue.my 2006 scion xb has a cracked windshield.this is the second time!my research indicates this is an unusually common problem in this model and i note that this will be the 89th complaint of this type on this site.i have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles in my life and my windshield has been hit by rocks on many occasions.not once have those strikes resulted in a fatally cracked windshield until my scion.a small nick will almost invariably end up in major crack.i was told by the dealership that this is because of how the windshield is sloped.i believe it is a cheap piece of glass or a design flaw of some kind.at $500 a windshield it is becoming an expensive proposition to own this vehicle.

My 2006 scion xb has developed a crack in the windshield, "l" shaped from the top of the windshield, behind the rearview mirror, going perpendicular for about 6-8" then making a 90 degree turn toward the passenger side, extending for about 12".it has stopped progressing.it seemed to happen for no reason.this seems to be acommon complaint amongst xb owners.

Standard driving down the street, suddenly small chip in bottom left hand corner of the windshield appeared, no other noticeable chips or cracks.car was parked overnight in secure garage and obtained a large crack greater than 6 inches in the top right hand corner of windshield.windshield was replaced.

Tl *- the contact stated that while traveling at 25 mph and turningtoward the sun, the sun isor did not extend far enough to prevent glare.the contact stated that because of this he was almost involved in a crash because he was unable to see.

Two months ago, as i was driving on the freeway during rush hour, i heard a noise. At first, i did not notice anything different until i then glanced at the passenger side of my windshield. There was a crack starting from the top of the windshield to about a 1/3 down. It has slowly been getting longer and is now halfway to the driver's side. When i got out of the car to examine the crack, there is no sign ofa rock or any other item hitting the windshield. My insurance will only cover it after i pay my deductible (which is more than a new windshield would cost me).

Toyota scion xb, 2006: windshield has been cracking ongoing beginning 2 weeks after i purchased this car.toyota/scion refuses to acknowledge this ongoing problem, and offers no replacement. I replaced 2 windshields within a year and lived with another crack for 3 years until now, as i have accumulated 3 cracks.toyota offers me the chance to pay twice as much for their glass as the cost for aftermarket replacement.

Stress crack appeared when i returned to my parked car in the morning.no impact could have happened.this is a reported design flaw in the 2006 scion xb, and i feel that it should be covered by warranty.

Noticed a crack in the windshield after vehicle parked overnight. Crack is "l" shaped beginning at driver's side windshield edge approx. 12" from bottom, extending approx. 3" horizontally, then turning 90 degrees toward bottom of windshield and extending approx. 9". Crack is not from debris and no pits can be felt anywhere along the crack. Vehicle is in warranty but dealer states that since no recall has been issued the warranty does not cover the windshield. As of 6/16/08 the windshield has not been replaced.

I walked into my garage on 9/24/08 and found a l-shaped crack in my windshield. It starts from the top of the windshield on the driver's side and ends right underneath the rear view mirror. My windshield did not have a crack when i left my car the night before. It is a very fine crack and doesn't look as if something hit it (no splinters in the glass). I contacted scion corporate this on 9/24/08 and they told me to make an appointment with a scion dealership. They said that it would be up to the dealership whether the replacement would be covered by the warranty and if the dealership deems that it shouldn't be, then i should get an estimate and contact them again with the information. They opened up a case number for me. I contacted miller toyota in culver city and took my car into the dealership 9/25/08 @ 1:00 pm.the service manager proceeded to run a ballpoint pin through the crack and told me that it would not be covered because there was pitting.i then requested an estimate, which came to $1.019.27.then i contacted scion corporate again and was told that they would arrange a person from corporate to inspect the windshield.scion corporate told me that the corporate rep would be there at noon on 9/29/08. I went to the dealership on 9/29/08 at noon and the representative was not there.and she didn't show for another 50 minutes.i told the service manager that i was leaving around 12:50 pm and he kept saying: "she will be here any minute".then as he gets to my car, i see a short asian woman with her hair pulled into a bun.he gives her a pen from his pocket and she runs a ballpoint pen through the crack (she spent 5-10 seconds with my car).the same service manager that did the ballpoint pen test was the one who wrote up the report to say the same thing. They are unconscionable.the funny thing is when i was researching my car purchase, i saw on edmunds that the 2006 scion xb had problems with spontaneous cracks forming in the windshield.

While driving, a crack began in the windshield coming up from the about from the bottom of the windshield (about 8" from the middle, closer to the driver).after climbing a about 9" it made a 90 degree turn and continued on (making about an 18" crack w/in an hour).there was no chip near that area.there had been a chip on the far passenger side that had been repaired.since then the windshield has gotten 4 other rock chips (including on that caused a crack extending exactly opposite of the 1st crack -- coming from the top-passenger side of center, toward the driver).this car has only been on the interstate for about 2000 miles (it has a total of 20000 miles).it has not driven on any abnormal or industrial roads (all chips/cracks occurred while the vehicle was traveling on an urban interstate at separate times).i would also like an assessment of how many chips/cracks can occur before a catastrophic failure of the windshield.as i will not replace my windshield with every oil change (only when the state forces me to due to the frequent nature of these incidents).

A spontaneous crack appeared in my 2006 scion xb windshield while sitting overnight. The crack starts at the top center edge of the windshield, travels down behind the rear view mirror, and angles towards the driver's side in an l shape. There is no chip or other visible damage associated with the crack. There was no rock impact in days/weeks/months preceding the crack. It's perhaps 8-12" long.the lack of any obvious or accidental cause for this crack is what concerns me and seems to imply a defect.

My 2006 scion xb (as well as every other one out there) has a design flaw in the windshield.i am on my second windshield.cracks happen for no reason, something as simple as turning on your defrost.scion replaced my first windshield because my car was under warranty.now they are hesitant to do it again.i let them know there are thousands of people on the web with the same problem i have.apparently it's the 04-06 scion xb.i cannot afford to go out and replace a windshield everytime this happens, on top of my car payment, and insurance, not to mention my other bills.i think scion owes it to the customers to do something about it.they claim to not know anything about this design flaw, but after some internet searching, there has been a class action lawsuit filed against them for the windshield problem.any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks for your time.

The windshield cracked for no reason a stone or rock did not hit the car . It was not involved in a accident.crack started in left corner of windshield traveled up and across windshield about 16 inches dealer says they no nothing about a problem i go on line to motorbeat.com and find over 100 posts.

1. Maybe a pebble impact2. Windshield crack (one time, i have not changed the windshield yet)3. Nothing yet.

I walked into my garage this morning and found a l-shaped crack in my windshield.it starts from the top of the windshield on the driver's side and ends right underneath the rear view mirror.my windshield did not have a crack when i left my car yesterday evening.it is a very fine crack and doesn't look as if something hit it (no splinters in the glass).i contacted scion corporate this morning and they told me to make an appointment with a scion dealership (i am making an appointment for tomorrow morning).they said that it would be up to the dealership whether the replacement would be covered by the warranty and if the dealership deems that it shouldn't be, then i should get an estimate and contact them again with the information.they opened up a case number for me.the funny thing is when i was researching my car purchase, i saw on edmunds.com that the 2006 scion xb had problems with spontaneous cracks forming in the windshield.hopefully, toyota/scion resolves this issue in a reasonable manner.i will keep you posted on how this pans out.

Windshield cracks on its own (not due to rocks or anything)there is an l shaped crack which starts at the top center of the windshield which is caused most likely by a defect in the design which caused the body to flex.

Windshield on my 2006 scion xb cracked overnight while sitting in my driveway. I discovered a crack starting from the edge of the windshield, approx eye-level on the drivers side. The crack extends about 10 inches downward at a 45 degree angle. There were no signs of a rock chip or other exterior damage to the windshield. This crack was not present the evening before then the car was parked.

Pulled my 2006 scion xb into the garage after waxing it.about 30 minutes later got in to pull it out of the garage and there was a large "l" shaped crack in the middle of the windshield.

Woke up to a cracked windshield behind the rearview mirror. Line crack that is spreading slowly.

The windshield on my 2006 scion xb cracked (full length of the windshield) while the vehicle was stationary.the vehicle was parked in my driveway.there was no evidence of impact.curious why it would crack while the vehicle was parked i searched the internet and discovered that numerous others scion xb owners were reporting an identical situation.

Went to my garage in the morning and discovered an "l"shaped crack in the center of the windshield had formed overnight.i was completely shocked as nothing had previous hit the windshield.after searching the web, it's clear the must be a defect in the design as it can not be a coincidence that many other 2006 xb owners have similar cracks in their windshields.the toyota/scion service manager said he would call me when the dsm inspection is possible.i am going to go theother dealerships to see if i can schedule the inspection sooner.

Windshield stress crack on scion xb. 2006 my. The crack happened spontaneously from the rearview mirror and curving right. From investigating numerous posts, discussions, etc. On the internet, this appears to be a significant defect. Just google "scion xb windshield cracking" and you'll find a plethora of incidents. Some customers report replacing windshields 8 times in one year!

Cameout to the car this morning to find a " l " shaped crack starting from the top middle of the windshield down about 8 inches, and taking a 90 degree turn twords the driver side for another 12 inches. Upon inspection the crack has no impact point and looks to have started from behind the weather stripping. Contacted my local dealer and they refuse to believe there is a common problem. A simple google search of 'scion xb windshield' turns up thousands of results and a class action lawsuit. Repair estimate; 680$.

Windshield cracked on passenger side while vehicle sat in closed garage overnight.

The windshield cracked for no apparent reason. It occurred while the car was parked. It starts on the driver side and is dog-legged in shape.

2006 scion xb windshield crack in middle of rearview mirror in to a "l" shape ! no apparent damage woke up one morning and was cracked!!

The contact owns a 2006 scion xb. The contact stated that there was a large crack on the driver side of the vehicle. The contact was concerned that the windshield would fracture entirely causing injuries or a crash while driving. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.

The front windshield cracked sitting in the driveway while the vehicle was not being used.nothing hit it or happened to the car.it was just sitting in my driveway facing the sun. I had just been in the vehicle 15 minutes earlier getting something out of it and the windshield was fine.the next time i looked at it a crack developed at the top of the windshield behind the rear view mirror that branched out into two horizontal lines.looking online this seems to be a very common problem with this year scion.

Had vehicle for a year when my windshield cracked for the first time.a year later another crack appeared.i did research and it seems like this model in particular had windshield problems and continuously cracked easily.i believe this is a huge safety issue as it affects visibility tremendously and continues to be an ongoing occurrence.as most warranty have expired by now, a recall on these windshield should be in processed.

Takata recall:the windshield ofter gets hit with rocks/pebbles and cracks the windshield due to the flatness and angle of the windows. Window is constantly cracked.

Tl *- the contact owns a 2006 toyota scion.while driving at 60 mph the contact opened the windowsand the rear driver side panel window began to crack and broke into pieces. The dealer advised the contact to call the warranty company.

2006 scion xb, found windshield cracked after leaving the car parked. The crack was not there in the morning but in the afternoon, an l shaped,4" by 10" crack starting from behind rear view mirror appeared, the car has 7700 miles this is a "weekend car" as it is parked in the garage in most of the time. Showed the crack to local scion dealer and they claim it was due to an impact from a pebble. They used a ball point to demonstrate that there is a pit. I am planning to replace the glass soon.

Rear power windows fail to operate. Safety hazard in hot climates. Toyota has acknowledged in a technical service bulletin, but repairs not covered except under 3 year/36k mile factory warranty. Suggest a recall to repair this safety hazard, especially in hot climates where children can be trapped in the vehicle if unable to operate the windows correctly.

Cracked windshield behind mirror, no none cause. Crack about 10 inch curves towards driver side.

Cracked windshield while parked.

I just replaced my windshield on my 2006 scion xb on 11/30/07 after 2 cracks developed after only tiny pebbles from the road hit in 2 different spots on 2 different occasions and created a cracks that spread like wildfire.this obviously made it impossible for repair because even if the glass company came within a couple hours, the crack had already spread from maybe 3-4 inches to over 12 inches!on both occasions the impact points were no more than 1 inch from the molding edge in the black area of the glass.any other time that i have had anything hit in the middle/in my line of view, it just bounces off like a piece of rubber with no damage.all in all, it has only been about 2 1/2 weeks since i paid about $250 out of my own pocket to have the thing replaced, and i already have another crack!!!same as the last couple of times...a very small pebble/rock hit about an inch from the molding in the "black area" of the glass on my way in to work this morning (12/18/07).and within my hour commute to work, it had already spread to about 3-4 inches.that was at about 8:00 this morning.it is now 10:20am, and when i went outside to look at it again at 9:30am, it had already spread to about 12 inches!!!i guess they won't be able to repair it!!!if it's longer than a dollar bill, they can't fix it according to my glass company that i usually call.this is obviously a design flaw and i would like to see toyota correct this problem.i have seen many many many complaints regarding this particular issue throughout the internet and a very considerable amount of complaints with the nhtsa/odi.this is a violation of the lemon law and have no problem giving it back to them for a full refund of all payments i have made to date since my purchase back in aug 2006 or a new vehicle under my current financing option.

2006 scion just driving down the freeway and the windshield just cracked from driving.

Woke up to find unexplained crack in windshield in shape of "l" about foot long each side. No previous trauma to windshield. A few weeks later several more curvy cracks sprang up, starting from edge of windshield, and not connected to each other. No accidents or debris striking car. Lots of tiny flecks in glass. Paid $200 to replace.

Scion xb sitting in atlanta airport parking lot.left for 12 days, windshield noted as cracked upon return. Vehicle was not/had not moved when the windshield cracked.

Windshield developed a crack approximately 4 inches in length while vehicle was not being driven.crack increased in length to approximately 1 1/2 feet in length the following day.vehicle had been driven but was parked when the crack increased in length.there was never any impact from rocks or any debris.the windshield was not touched in any way that could have caused damage.windshield was repaired by safelite glass, repair was covered by insurance claim.

My windshield developed a crack starting from the top middle, directly behind the rear view mirror.the crack extended downward approximately 6-8 inches and then horizontally toward the driver's side approximately 6-8 inches, forming an "l" shape.i have no idea how this happened as i don't recall having any debris hit the windshield.8tr

The windshield has been replaced twice due to l shaped cracks that developed from the side pillars. I am sure it is not because of being hit by a rock. The first time i thought i could hear the cracking sound while sitting in the car(11-05-07). The 2nd time, the car was in the garage & not driven that day. The day before, it had only been washed & put back in the garage.

On tuesday january 19, 2010 on my way home from work i noticed a small crack in the center of my windshield right behind the rearview mirror of my 2006 scion xb. I was going to take it to a shop to be repaired on wednesday, on wednesday morning i saw the crack had doubled in size and was in the shape of an l going towards the drivers side and was beyond ability to repair. I thought it could have been a rock that caused the damage, but i could not recall a rock causing such damage in so little time. So i did some research online to see that there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints of the l shape crack in the 2004 - 2006 scion xb windshield. I did more research and i was told to file a complaint with nhtsa in hope it could be resolved since this is a safety hazard.

Death rattle noise at upper left, above dash near front windshield. This noise has been there on and off since the purchase of the car.this noise indicates that a crack will appear in windshield shortly.the crack is longer than a foot and will appear suddenly.victorville toyota dealer doesn't believe there is a problem.the crack appeared after i had the noise checked out by victorville toyota after they couldn't find the problem.i believe it is the windshield support brackets that need to be trimmed that will cause the crack.

I own a 2006 scion xb and i believe there is something wrong with the structure of the vehicle.i had to replace the windshield of the car after a 6 inch crack appeared in it instantly and then developed into a 12 inch crack by the next morning.i took it to the dealership because there was no sign of trauma that would cause a crack and the guy took a pen and ran it up the crack and said there was a chip that caused this crack.the "chip" in no way should have caused this damage seeing as the car was inthe dealership on friday and they did not detect any flaws in the glass and for this "chip" to have happened within the next two days and lead to a crack is unheard of as i have experienced chips in other windshields and they lead to no such damage in such a short time.

Windshield developed a crack without being struck by road debris.

Windshield cracked at the top behind the rearview mirror. It went down from the top of the windshield 6 inches then turned to the right and went 13 inches before stopping. I have seen two other scions on the road that are cracked in the exact same spot.

I bought my 2006 scion xb brand new in december of 2006. I've only owned my car for 1 year, but i've had 4 windshield cracks/chips. The first occurred the 2nd week of having my car. A rock hit the windshield in the middle and caused a chip, i immediately had novus stop it before it turned into a bigger problem. I had no problems through the summer and lived with a chip windshield. Then a couple of months ago another rock hit the edge of my windshield (where the frame of the car is behind the glass) and the crack immediately spread to being about 12 inches long. I placed a claim with my insurance company and had the windshield replaced with toyota manufactured glass about a week later. A couple of weeks ago, my windshield cracked again, with no cause or rock damage noticed. The crack grew quickly and is about 15 inches long. I called the insurance company and the people who replaced my windshield. I also did a bit of research and found out that the windshield is apparently cursed because owners everywhere are having the same problem. And now i have a second 15 inch crack on the same windshield. I'm waiting for the original toyota manufactured glass to come in (so that toyota is still responsible when i have to replace it a third time) and then i'll have it replaced. 4 cracks in less than a year... Seems like there could be a serious problem with this windshield.

On the morning of march 13, 2008 i awoke to find a large l shaped crack(approx. 1 ft long/driver's side) in the windshield of my 2006 scion xb.i immediately called my insurance company and they made an appointment for me to have the windshield replaced the following day(costing me a $50.00 deductible).i could offer no reason as to how the crack happened...it seemed to just appear(as most of the other complaints i've read on here suggest).in addition, i have owned my xb for close to a year and a half and in that time i have had the windshield repaired 2 other times due to chips/small cracks.judging by the data i have found on this website and elsewhere, i would definitely conclude that there is a major defect in the 2006 scion xb.and this is definitely a safety hazard, being that the windshield is a major component of a vehicle's safety.

There was a crack in the windshield behind the rearview mirror in the morning when i went out, it has spread downward and across the center over the past two days.

Windshield cracked on a short two hour drive, nothing else unusual happened.

There seems to be a manufacturer's flaw on the windshield design.less than 8 months there was a crack on the front windshield for no apparent reason. I then had to replaced it with a brand new front windshield. About a week later a new crack appeared, there was no rocks that had hit the front windshield. It just slowly started to crack from the driver's edge frame and slowing increased in length. To replace the windshield twice in 8 months wasnot regular. I searched online forums around, and it seemedlike iwas not the only one complaining about the toyota scionwindshield defects. I think scion should be held responsible for all the cracked windshields that occrured with their defective design. There should be a recall to fix this problem.

Windshield cracks without any cause!it's from the middle bottom and it's over 10 inches long.

In the last four months i have developed three unrelated cracks in the windshield.the first one i had repaired.the second, a much larger crack, developed on the other side of the windshield two months later.ithen had the whole windshield replaced.after about one month with the new windshield a new large crack has developed.

I came out to 2006 scion xb in parking lot and found "l" shaped crack starting at the center of the top rubber seal and extending down and toward the passenger side.

Today, 6/13/08, i was washing my car....nothing unusual....after i was finished with the outside and started on the inside, i noticed a crack in the windshield....i wasn't even driving so nothing hit the windshield...after doing some research, i have discovered that this is an ongoing issue with this particular make and model....

The windshield broke on september 12, 2006 due to stress fracture according to toyota. Toyota replaced windshield at no cost to me. On september 17, 2006 the windshield broke again and was replaced by toyota at no cost to me. Again breakage was due to a stress fracture according to toyota.

One month after purchasing my scion xb, a pebble hit my windshield as often happens on the freeway. This made a small "spidery" ding in the windshield. A week later, that ding grew to be over 24" long. Everywhere i go, i see scion xb's and probably 85% of them also have a huge crack in the windshield. Something should be done about this.

I've had to replace my windshield twice in the past six months. The first time was because of a pebble and i went to the replacement place recommended by my insurance carrier. The second time the windshield just cracked. I was driving down the road and heard this "click". Thought there was a crack, but saw nothing. Next morning i got into my car and there was a crack about 3" long on the bottom, left, driver's side of the windshield. No little impact crater indicating a debris hit, just a crack. I went to one of those repair places and they did their thing, but over the course of 2 weeks the crack grew until it was about 18" long. Finally just gave up and replaced it. When i called the windshield repair place they said they get a lot of xb calls. The windshield design is faulty causing it to keep cracking. I love my xb and don't want to get rid of it, but also don't want to keep buying windshields!!!

I bought my 2006 scion xb new.sitting in my driveway one morning i got in and closed the door.my windshield cracked.i had not started the car yet, just closed the door, and not hard.my car was parked on a slope, perhaps 6 degrees.the crack was on the lower driver's side corner about 5 inches from the bottom and only a few inches long. Over the next few weeks it grew and turned down connecting with the bottom edge.now the same windshield has sprouted another crack.i just returned from the dealership, kearny mesa toyota (92111) where they told me there was nothing they could do, that the glass was impacted by rocks.the manager came out with his ballpoint pen and traced the crack.when he found no impact crater he made a chip by running his pen crosswise to the crack, which made a small star chip that looks like a impact mark.he told me this is not under warranty and that it would cost me 700 to 900 to fix my car.i am still driving with a broken windshield.

I have had my xb for over a year, and the only problem i have is the windsheild. I have two cracks that started out of nowhere. I don't know what to do to prevent them from cracking.

The windshield of my 2006 xb cracked on 12.29.07 while driving on the highway after a stone hit it. However, this is the second time i'll be replacing the windshield. The first time, last summer, there was no impact; there was an l-shaped crack behind the rearview mirror one morning. Based on your own complaint database and numerous postings on www.edmunds.com, xb owners have had similar problems with windshields.

I am currently on my second scion xb and have had significant windshield problems. With my current xb i have had approx. 8 cracks over the last 6 months. I had the first two chips repaired through my insurance company. However the third crack went across 50% of the windshield. Shortly after i recieved another crack parallel to the first, also covering approx. 50% of my windshield. Now i have got two new chips. I travel different routes to include the interstate, country roads, and city roads. I have even recieved cracks in various states.

While driving in ohio on vacation we noticed the beginning of a line crack in the windshield. It started in the middle of the windshield at the point where the glass met the frame, exactly over the rear mirror. As we drove, it traveled downward and curved toward the driver's side. We checked and found no apparent chip from any road debri, nor had we heard anything.

Windshield breaks for no reason, seems there must be a problem with the frame area that causes the windshield to break with temperature changes.

The windshield on my 2006 scion xb cracked while the car was sitting in the driveway the temperature was about 68 degrees which was what it had been most of the week. No extreme temperatures at night.this has been a very common problem on this model and is a safety issue for which a recall should be issued.

I own a 2006 scion xb.i noticed an l shaped crack in my windshield the morning of jan.2, 2008.the crack starts at the middle top of the windshield behind the rear view mirror. I have owed the car for 1.5 years.the night before there was no crack.the crack seems to be internal in the glass.there are no external cracks on the glass inside and out.there was no event that led to the cracking.it just appeared.the dealership where i bought the car will not replace the glass.many people have complained of a similar crack in these cars.

Purchased car in september 2006 in north hollywood.sitting at gas station early morning near mt shasta (north california, temperature just above freezing) with heater running.while pumping gas heard a cracking noise, came around to front of car and found crack running horizontally from lower driver side of windshield.within two hours crack had grown almost seven inches, curving up first then running horizontally towards the passenger side.the next morning (again very cold temperatures) the crack had grown almost a full foot further.by the time i got the car to the dealership the "service manager" ran a pen along the crack and declared that a grain of sand had struck the windshield and that the dealership refused to cover the repair.i contacted toyota, they said that they would defer to the dealerships "experts," even though i pointed out the many, many postings on this fault on this website.there is definitely a recallable fault if a grain of sand traveling at freeway velocities can cause a failure of the windshield; were that explanation true no toyota could safely be on the road.the fact that i was at a dead stop when the "impact" happened makes it even more ridiculous.

I have a 2006 scion xb that was purchased in may 2006.last year, in 2007, a crack appeared that started on the edge of the windshield on the driver's side.they crack then grew from a line into an l shape.a month or so after that another l shaped crack appeared coming from the top of the windshield behind the rearview mirror.i replaced the windshield on august 29, 2008.last night the windshield was fine, this morning (september 12, 2008 - two weeks later!!) there is another l shaped crack behind the rearview mirror that appeared overnight while the car was sitting in my driveway.

The windshield of my 2006 scion xb has inexplicably cracked in a large l shape originating from the top of the windshield at the frame.the car was garaged when this happened, and had not been driven in one week.there was no recent impact from any rock, pebble or stone.

Windshield cracks: my windshield cracked, with no one in the car, and no chip. It had less than 2000 miles when it happened. I had parked the car most of the way under a carport, where the front 2/3 was shaded as the sun rose that morning but the back 1/3 had sun shining on it. I had the front windows down a couple of inches each.the crack came from the passenger side at the seal about half way up the window, and traveled in toward the driver's side horizontally then took a turn 90 degrees upward for a couple of inches and then 90 degrees toward the driver's side again. Total length was approx 14 inches.i immediately called the dealer and asked if anyone else had this same issue. Mind you i bought the car from kerry scion in florence, ky. Where they claim the car sells itself and they can't keep them in stock- no one seemed to have reported a similar incident. The service tech laughed at me over the phone!i took a ballpoint pen like he told me and followed the crack and no chip! this was in august 2006.over the course of one year the crack grew to almost the entire width of the windshield. Then just last week, a new crack appeared originating at the top edge of the windshield,on the drivers side of the review mirror, traveling downward then making a 90 degree turn toward the passenger side.the same day the second crack appeared, which occurred as the car was parked(same as the first crack)in the lot at work, the original crack grew approx 6 inches toward the drivers side. This is why i replaced the windshield today: i was told while registering my vehicle this past week that the state i now live in, ks,will ticket you for a crack in the windshield if in front of the drivers line of sight. So if it is safety concern for the state of kansas, then it's a safety issue that toyota need to address.

Windshield cracked for no reason. I pulled up in the garage notice this 15 inches crack coming from lower passenger side window. No impact is visible to cause the crack.i called the dealership in lancasterthey told me it was a rock that causes it, i advised to look in to a possible safety problem on the glass or design they said never heard of it before so i said to do a search in the internet. I don't mind replacing it but not every few weeks..like others did..someone need to look in to this possible safety problem with out being thrown out..

- the contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xb.the vehicle had stress cracks in the front windshield.while driving at 40 mphthe normal debris on the road hit the window and caused it to crack. There were no injuries or collision. The contact stated that the stress cracks and the window failure was normal for this type of vehicle.the current and failure mileage were both 2,800.

Windshield cracked.

3 windshields cracked in 15 months due to weather change.lower left corner of the windshield all 3 times.model: 2006 xb scion.

Driving my scion xb down the freeway, a crack developed from the edge of the driver's side windshield and grew by 18 inches within seconds.after stopping to inspect the windshield, i found there was no impact point and this was a stress fracture.after reading internet forums and this websites complaints, i can see this is a common occurrence.

I have a new 2006 scion xb purchased in september 2006. First cracked windshield occurred on 11/09/06; at 7am , temperature 65-68 degrees, i turned on the heat-low- to get fog off the windshield, took out the thrash and came back to the car and found a nine inch crack from left side under rubber bending toward the right into my line of sight. No objects have hit my windshield and dealer could find no impact point. Toyota replaced windshield under warranty.today, 12/20/06, i turned on the heat-specifically kept it low-to clear fog again (70 degrees outside). Drove 0.2 mile and noticed a new crack coming from under the rubber at the top center near the rear view mirror.nothing has hit this second windshield. Found many internet blogs about scion xb windshields cracking while they just sit in peoples' garage. This appears to be a design flaw. I request a recall on this flimsy windshield.please tell me what can be done about this. I am sure another windshield will not fix the real problem--this is a safety hazard and getting the repair causes me to lose work time.

- the contact owns a 2006 scion xb with an odometer reading of 16000 miles. The contact stated that the windshield would fail under the slightest pressure. The contact was driving under dry conditions at about 65 mph whena pebble hit the windshield and it caused a large crack considering the size of the pebble that hit the windshield. The contact called the manufacturer and they told him to file a complaint.the failure mileage was 12,000 miles.

2006 toyota scion xbcracked windshield....no apparent reason.

While the car was parked in the driveway during the day i came outside to find a 12 inch crack that started at the top near the rearview mirror and curved towards the 'side.there was no impact from any road elements.the crack wasn't there when we drove the car home that day.appeared while sitting outside.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xb.he stated that the windshield was replaced three times due to cracks and stress.the contact felt that there a designed flaw which caused the failure.the manufacturer stated that they are aware of the design flaw and advised the contact that he was responsible for the repair.the current mileage is 30,200 and the failure mileage was 1500.updated 02/01/08.*lj

Out of no where; no trees, no trucks in front of me or any other vehicles, on a clear day, my windshield made a loud pop noise and it cracked from the top passenger side edge to the center of the windshield. It slowly creeped across to the mid-line of visibility on the driver side over the next 24 hrs.-- i was surprised to learn this is a common issue with this year and model!

The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xb.the contact noticed that the windshield had a 10-inch crack.the vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic.the current and failure mileages were 11,000.

An "l" shaped crack that appeared without incident from the top section of my windshield above the rear-view mirror.approx. 10 inches long at this point.appears to be getting larger daily.no chips in windshield that could have caused a crack like this.i have an appointment tomorrow to have windshield replaced.

2006 scion xb windshield stress cracking. There was no impact. I have had two replaced in 4 months. The dealer has taken care of this so far, but i wanted to advise in that it appears to be a common issue. In some parts of the country, the dealers are not taking care of this problem. Its either bad glass, or the cradle the glass sits in, is not matched to the glass profile. Both cracks appeared while sitting. There was no impact.

The windshield on my 2006 scion xb cracked for no reason while parked (2 foot crack). The technician could find no cause. He said they replace these xb windshields daily. The car only has 5,000 miles on it. I have never replaced a windshield or had one crack in 30 years of owning cars.

Our car was parked overnight, when getting into the car the next morning i noticed that the windshield had cracked in the shape of an l.

Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. This is the second occurrence.

I own a 2006 scion xb, the windshield has about 8 cracks in it, due to either unknown forces or the tiniest rocks hitting it. My car cannot pass inspections with the amount of damage to the windshield not only that but replacements for the xb's cost at least 500 dollars. By reading about many other cracked windshields from the scion xb's i know that itis not only me but many people with this same problem. There needs to be a recall on these windshields.** my address and phone number are for the nhtsa only, they are not to be sold or traded to anyone under the privacy protection act, to do so will result in serious consequences.**

I own a scion xb 2006 and have the same problem many other scion xb owners are having.my front windshield keeps cracking in the typical "l" shaped pattern.the first time was last year, it cracked forno reason during the late spring.a rock never hit it, nor did anything else that led to the crack.yesterday, i noticed the same "l" shape crack starting, this morning, it spread across my windshield to the passenger side.the crack is just under 3 feet long.this is exactly the same as the first crack, starts on the drivers side about three inches from the end of the window frame and moves to the passenger side.i've had it replaced by my insurance company using their suggested auto glass repair people.i will have it replaced again, tomorrow.so far, this seems to occur every 8,000 miles.i called scion today to tell them about my situation after finding numerous web-sites dedicated specifically to this problem.it seems to be a structural problem with the car and spans many years models as the newer 2008's have the same issues as my 2006 and the older 2005 models.

I wonder if the scion xb windshield is too thin.i've had my xb only about a year and a half and have had two broken windshields and each occurred on paved roads.prior to that i'd only had one broken windshield in 45 years of driving.

This has to do with front windshield cracking.our windshield has several cracks from a couple of minor hits by what i would consider small pebbles.several cracks have formed and they are now joining together.i have read on line that this is a problem with these car's and therefore may be a defect.

I own a 2006 scion xb and i have a huge crack that appeared out of nowhere on my windshield. This crack started out big, and then only got bigger with time. Upon doing much research, i have learned that this is a very common complain with the 2004-2006 scion xb mofels and i believe it is a safety hazard.

I purchased a 2006 scion xb in march of 2006.i did not drive it much as a student but now that i've graduated i see major problems in the vehicle design.i had one pebble hit the top part of my windshield in dec 2007 and it caused a vertical vein down the driver side of my window.i have since replaced the window and now, two months after, my windshield has again veined as a result of a pebble hitting the edge of the windshield.all of this occurred on a daily commute on the highway.since i actually had two different brands of windshield i can only conclude that this is not a windshield problem, but rather a design defect.the shape of the vehicle leaves the windshields susceptible to cracks more than other vehicles.for a vehicle that is supposed to be economical i feel that paying over 300 dollars every couple months for a new windshield is completely unacceptable and toyota should be held responsible.

- the contact stated thatthe windshield cracked while sitting at a stop sign.the weather was sunny with temperature in low 30's.the contact stated that the crack started in the lower driver side of the windshield and continued to the passenger side of the vehicle.he contacted the manufacturer and filed a complaint, #200701301072.updated 02/22/07.

The was being driven under routine circumstances, to work. The windshield has cracked twice (2) due to stress. And the dealer has replaced it once, will consider it a second time. The parts being used are the same but the windshield cracked a second time.

I bought my scion brand new in nov. 2005. It was my first brand new car, and i love my xb. I have been having unacceptable problems with windshield cracks. I am currently on my 5th windshield, and today i came out and saw a new crack. Approx. 12" on the lower passenger side. The car has been parked in the driveway facing the garage door since about 530pm yesterday. Some one of the previous crack was due to a small pebble like object that lightly hit the windshield. It was instantaneously a 10" crack. My first two windshields were covered by my insurance, that last one i paid for out of pocket. With the new crack i will also have to pay for replacement unless toyota owns up to the defect. The new crack shows no signs of impact. It grows out from under the molding and goes up, then slightly to the right, then up again. I have contacted toyota twice hoping to get this solved. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Windshield cracking in several places.

Scion xb windshield damaged repeatedly.first crack from the top and down most of the driver side, l-shaped towards the driver-side frame.no apparent cause, except possibly extreme heat.replaced.since then, have had two new cracks starting from the top, down and multiple (at least 5 separately occurring) rock impacts.commute the same route as have in the previous seven years, with no similar damage/frequency to previous vehicle windshields.

Cracked windshield on my 2006 scion xb. With only 3,200 miles on the car i started noticing small stress cracks starting on the side of he windshield. After i went to scion they attributed these cracks from rock chips. The company that replaced the windshield said that their where no rock divoys in the crack line and that these was an stress issue.

I own a 2006 scion xb and it continually has problems with the front windshield cracking. This appears to be due to a design flaw.

Crackwindshield: i have(my insurance company) has replaced 3 windshields in my 2006 scion xb and i currently have a (l) shape crack in my windshield, which starts at he top of my rear-view mirror. If i decide to replace this windshield this will be number 4.i have complained to the toyota dealership when-ever i bring my car in for maintenance and i have been advised that the windshield is thicker than most due to the shape of the glass! hah! this is seriously a problem. If i contact my insurance company they replace the glass, if i want to consider a new insurance company they consider this a claim against my policy and this makes my insurance coverage higher with other insurance companies, which of course limits my options! this windshield situation is costly and dangerous!

My windshield suddenly has a crack going all the way across my windshield nothing has hit my windshield, the crack has started from the edge of the windshield and i have talked with other 2006 scion owners that it has happened to. I need to be advised on what to do.

My 2006 scion xb windshield has multiple cracks that aren't from a chip.i have heard that this is a common problem and that toyota will not resolve it for the consumer.

For the second time, the windshield on my 2006 scion xb has developed a large crack and will need to be replaced.in neither instance do i recall anything hitting the windshield. The current crack developed overnight while the car was parked.in my experience, this frequency of windshield cracking is highly unusual.i think the windshields (or perhaps the windshield mounts) must be defective.

My windshield developed a crack sitting in my driveway. Crack is about a foot long starting from the top middle of my windshield into a "l" shaped towards/behind my rear view mirror. Two days prior to the incident there was snow which lead to cold weather. I am planning to take my car to a local scion dealer for repair. I am hesitant to replace my windshield if another crack is going to develop. No pebbles/rocks hit my windshield while driving on highways to and from work. Hopefully scion will replace the window at no cost. There is definitely a design flaw with the2006 scion xb. Others who complained had cracks develop without any material hitting the windshield.

I have had to replace the windshield 5 times on my 2006 scion xb which was purchased in may 2006, i have also found out this is the most replaced glass windshield from our local safelite glass dealer, searching the internet i have found out i am not the only one with issue, this appears to be nationwide. Although toyota/scion will never admit to a design flaw i am wondering what if anything is being dome to address this issue. Although i have not been injured yet, i am sure it is only a matter of time when the windshield will fail completely.

My car was parked in the garage overnight.in the morning i noticed a crack on the windshield, beginning at the bottom where the glass meets the frame, in front of the approximate midpoint of the passenger seat, extending vertically upward approximately 8 - 10 inches, then traveling horizontally toward the driver's side, ending near the odometer.the crack was definitely not there when i parked the car the night before.

- the contact owns a 2006 scion xb with a current odometer reading of 7,000 miles. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked the contact came out and found that the windshield was cracked from the bottom where the windshield wipers rest on the passenger's side about 12 inchesto the top drivers side. The contact stated that nothing hit the windshield to cause this problem. The failure mileage was 6,000.

I purchased a brand new 2006 scion xb in december of 2006. I got a crack in my windshield approximately two weeks ago. There are no chips from being hit by a rock. There are message boards posting similar situations from other scion owners and neither scion nor toyota want to do anything to fix the problem. This is a manufacturing issue and not a cause of a rock chip.

In mid-november 2007 i got a spontaneous crack in my windshield while running at approximately 70 mph on i-94 in western michigan.this crack runs from under the rubber near the rear view mirror, then down and to the right.it showed up as a 5 inch crack.it is now 15 inches long.three days later a small rock hit the windshield in the lower right part of the windshield.within a few hours, the small crack became a multifaceted spiderweb of cracks.over time, some of the cracks grow when the car is just sitting there.

I have a 2006 scion xb and i love the car. For no apparent reason the windshield cracked from the top passenger side the crack started today. It is started at the top of the window at the trim and is moving down to the mid line of the window turning toward the driverside.

Last week i found a foot long crack on the windshield of my 2006 scion xb when i went out to my car after work.in researching replacement options i found multiple posts on on-line forums indicating that the crack may be due to a design flaw.the crack begins near the rear view mirror and curves toward the driver's side with a total length of approximately 16-18 inches.

1. Events leading up to the failure: vehicle sit in the sunlight.2. Failure and its consequences: the windshield cracks because the frame flexes without any impact to the windshield.3. What was done to correct the failure: i had 8 windshield replacements in 6 months.toyota/scion eventually repurchased the vehicle since it was a lemon.

Windshield crack.

2006 scion xb cracked windshield.it is a problem with the scion that they corrected in their 2008 model.

I just went into the garage to move my scion and noticed a large crack in the shape of a j at the top middle of my windshield.when searching for auto glass on the net, i came across too many posts of xb owners with the same problem and see that it looks like a "silent recall".

My rear windshield has cracked and completely shattered 3 time in 6 months. I've had to pay out of pocket, and im tired of it....toyota claims there is no defect, but i've read on other sites that i'm not the only person this has happened to. My front windshield is now cracked from underneath the outside molding....how many thousands of dollars do i have to spend before they recall this issue.

Cracked windshield warranty claim denied by scion.no plausible reason given by toyota warranty inspector as to the reason for crack.
