I was alone, preparing to get on the turnpike access road when a car/van hit the right front passenger side of my car. Details of the accident were recorded many hours after the crash. I was never asked to provide details. My car rolled over twice down a steep-angled but shallow embankment and then righted itself upright.my seatbelt was fastened and snugged but at no time did the retaining function engage.the seatbelt functioned like a bunji cord.and the airbags (neither front airbag) deployed until many minutes after the crash, as i was sliding across the front seat and console as i began to exit the passenger side.i was and am still injured, have lost much use of my left wrist and hand, suffered a blow to the back of my head which temporarily left me deaf. I still have severe contusions of the left and right legs, and abdomen both externally and on the inside of the abdominal wall.
1. Started the car and the air bag light on the dashboard would not stop flashing. I bought the car new. The car never been in an accident, never had any damage and was properly maintained. Still under 60,000 miles and is under warranty. 2. It would flash non stop when the car was operating3. Took the car to the dealer to see if they can resolve the issue. They found out that the wire under the passenger seat became loose. I was told that a water bottle under the seat could have caused the wire to disconnect, but before i checked the car in there was nothing under the seat.apparently moving the seat back and forth can cause the wire to disconnect.i believe that this is a safety hazard in both cases. I feel that somebody should look into this. The dealer reconnected the wire and reset the system
The air bag warning light has come on a few times and stayed on for about half a day, or a full day, before going off. This has happened a few times over the past couple of years. Because the light goes off, i have figured it was just an electrical malfunction and everything was fine. But i am concerned after seeing yesterday's recall notice about other toyotas in which a problem with an electrical connection between the steering and air bags has meant that the air bags will not deploy. A warning light is associated with this problem. Do 2006 scion xas need to be included in the recall?
In motion on highway hit black ice driving 55 mile per hour safe for conditions that day drivers front impacted cement barrier airbags deploy on impact seat belt failed to restrain driver in proper seat due to seat belts and airbag failures , severe brain trauma resulted
My scion ax 2006 was recalled due to a flashing airbag warning light. The dealer made the light go out, fixed it last year 2018. Now the light came on again and they want to charge me $199 to just check it, no repair included. It appears to be an additional airbag defect and i should not have to pay for that. There is no reason for the warning light other than a defect. What can i/you do????kind regards, [xxx]redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*cc
Is my car safe?
Takata recall.why is the scion xa being excused from the airbag recall, when it most likely has the exact same airbags as the scion xb model?has nhtsa ignored the xa just because it was sold in lesser numbers than the xb?this car has the same engine and transmission in a slightly smaller body.
While driving my 2006 scion xa westbound i80 utah accident occurred at mile marker 150 while taking a left hand turn passengers front tire encountered black ice sending the car into the cement barrier. Bounced off that cement barrier into the oppisite barrier on the passenger front bothwere blown out and a frame of the vehicle was collapsed in the vehicle the driver's seat belt failed to lock or engage. Resultingi impacted windshield with forehead cracking it, then as i was coming back into the driver's seat the steering wheel airbag deployed late and resuluting hit me in the left side of jaw resulting i was shot across the car and the right side of my face shattered the passenger side window on to the road. I landed across the gear shift andbroke my back as a result. Of the safety systems failing to function properly i was thrown around the car like a rag dolli blew out the mcl in my left knee and suffered three traumatic brain injuries within 30 seconds. Resulting from the crash comatose for 6 hours i have no clear memories for up to 3 months after the accident. Also a fractured back, how much is and by the age of 24 and had to have all my teeth pulled and recieve dentures. To this day this accident affects my daily life and long term consequences of the 3 tbi are still developing. I was 20 years old at the time of the accident.i'm 27 now. I found out only a year ago that recalls shoukd be inplace.
The contact owns a 2006 scion xa. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph in snowy conditions on december 20, 2009, the vehicle suddenly slid off the road and crashed into a ditch. The air bags did not deploy. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. The current mileage was approximately 47,000.
Near 100,000 miles, the airbag light came on and stays on.car has never been in an accident; light just came on one day upon starting it up.i understand that this light can represent an error in crash sensors, air bag system, seat belts, seat occupancy sensor, etc.internet forums say that often one of the wires under the passenger seat has just worked loose.took it to dealer and it was not a loose wire.they say a certain "box" in the srs system is not working, and the replacement will cost $1300.i note that ~17,000 of these same vehicles were recalled in 2018 for a same/similar issue, but my vin was not included in that recall.
Could not get the form to pull up, but i need to complain. My 2 kids and i were turning off one side road to turn onto another. Well i didnt want to hit the dog that ran out in front of the car so i dodged the dog. Well i hit a telephone pole and i completely messed up the front end of my car. The airbags never deployed, they should have from where the car hit and how much damage i have done. Luckily no one got hurt but i'm like 100% positive those airbags should have deployed. I did a good $1,000 repair just to get it moving again
Our scion xa was involved in a accident resulting to injuries to the driver. The vehicle was running, but in park when it was hit in the driver's front side. The impact of the collision pushed the vehicle into a parked van which then did serious damage to the front and passenger side of the car. The driver's head broke the windshield and resulted in dental, facial injuries. A concussion and back injuries. Neither air bag deployed even when both driver and passenger were seat belted in the front seats.a call to scion on the 14th was not returned until today when i made a follow up call. I was told the air bags were not designed to deploy unless the vehicle was traveling a certain speed. I think that is a terrible design.
Was driving 2006 toyota scion xa to work in morning going around curb i have driven for 8 years.after braking to take curb no longer had control of vehicle.drove long way on curvy road and could not gain control of car. Ended up going off road at approx 40mph hit a tree stump and then flipped vehicle.no airbags deployed or seat belts locked up.called toyota and was told that airbags only go off if vehicle reaches a certain rate of deceleration at point of impact.this happened 2 weeks prior to news of acceleration problems. I had no clue why i lost control of car at curb.everyone around me said it was probably black ice from fog but my son who was right behind me did not hit ice or lose control.after researching the web, i find hundreds of toyota owners whose airbags did not go off and they were all fed the same line i was.did our sensors not detect deceleration because of bad acceleration sensors?did i lose control because my car did not decelerate when i put foot on brake at curb.i have been driving for 35 years and have never lost control of my car.i was lucky and my injuries were not life threatening or crippling; but i would like to know what happened and why i was not protected by my airbags when my car hit a tree dead on.i do have photos from this accident and this vehicle is still available at insurance tow lot for viewing and testing.please call for details.

Engine is suddenly jolty and jumpy immediately after starting, and bumpy especially at an idle but also higher speeds, in any direction of movement.check engine light is flashing, and then solid, then back to flashing (repeat) but every diagnostic test done just reads "error."
Hello,i have already replaced three electrical motors for my 2006 scion xa. I see several other scion's on the recall for this. I would say my scion xa should be on as well. I have spent over $1,300 on these repairs, as well as other repairs.
My power window master switch went out. I could not put my right rear window up. I went to my local toyota dealer where i get my maintenance done and this was there assessment. I see today on line that toyota is recalling vehicles due to the power window switches malfunctioning! i checked and my model year is not on the recall. I find this a very odd coincidence i am having the exact same problem with my vehicle. I contacted scion customer care and they said i was not part of the recall and my car was out of warranty. Obviously this problem to me extends beyond the model years listed. What is my recourse.thank you
I own an 2006 scion xaand i having trouble to start the engine when it's get warm or normal operating temperature.when the engine is cold like on mornings it star right away with a few cranks but after it's gets warm i to crank times stop cranking and crank it again until engine start, cars run fine and got no check engine code on it.
I own a 2006 scion xa. I have had to replace three of the electric window controls, and the emission system keeps having problems. Check engine light keeps going on. This happens when the vehicle is running, in motion and stationary.
After mycar, a 2006 scion xa, had sat in the parking lot all day at work, i drove about a block to a stop sign waiting to cross two lanes. It was cold and rainy that day. When i came to a stop, all of sudden there was a clunk from underneath that i heard and felt and was immediately followed by the car bucking, as if it was trying to leap ahead. I had my foot hard on the brake. It kept doing this every 5 seconds or so until i was able to make the turn. Clunk, leap ' clunk, leap.it was all i could do to control the car. It was dieseling really hard during all this. Once i made the turn and started driving, it settled down and it warmed up within four minutes and was fine again.i think i noticed the brake warning light while this was going on but i can't be sure about that. I didn't notice if the check engine came on. I was too busy trying to control the car to notice what else was happening.the next evening, after i had been parked for about an hour,i was able to start the car but it wouldn't shift. Finally after trying a few times, letting out the emergency brake, and starting it again, it shifted.there is definitely something not right with this vehicle, whether or not the codes say so. Perhaps there's something wrong with the code system.i took the car into my dealer for repair and though the codes didn't register anything amiss, one of their mechanics was smart enough to recalibrate the ecm program which fixed the problem. This is similar to what i am reading about the toyota recall problems, though not as severe. Scion is made by toyota. It definitely was an electronic problem. The dealer reported this to toyota last year when i brought it in for repair. This was a used car i purchased in november 2008.
Engine is suddenly jolty and jumpy immediately after starting, and bumpy especially at an idle but also higher speeds, in any direction of movement.check engine light is flashing, and then solid, then back to flashing (repeat) but every diagnostic test done just reads "error."
The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xa. The contact stated that there was a small fire that erupted in the engine while driving 35 mph. The contact merged off the roadway and opened the hood to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but had not been repaired or diagnosed to determine the cause of the fire. The manufacturer was not notified of the incident. The approximate failure and current mileage was 49,000. The vin was unavailable.
I own a 2006 scion xa. I have had to replace three of the electric window controls, and the emission system keeps having problems. Check engine light keeps going on. This happens when the vehicle is running, in motion and stationary.
The check engine light came on had canister replacedthis is the second time it has come on and told the same part needs replacing it has been approx 5 years water keeps getting in the canister notified toyota nothing they can do this is not cheap to replace.
The contact stated that 2006 scion xa. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was in the fuel/propulsion system. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred. The details of the repairs were unknown. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,000.
Hawaii in the house ...i own a 2006 scion xa andrecently the check engine light came on. I had it diagnosed at hilo toyota.."p2401 evaporate leak detection pump control circuit". The charcoal canister and some otherparts are ruined due to water leakage. I am one of millions scion owners who now has to pay major parts and labor charges to have this fixed.i live in hawaii and it rains alot here, i find this as a defect and toyota should take the right actions to fix this on going issue. I love my scion but i hate knowing this will re-occur again and again and again... As many posts have paid for new parts. This is my first time and i payed over $1,000 in repairs for this codes. "totota" handle this issue already. We are loyal customers, but u guys need to take action. Not every one has a few thousands to fix this on going issue.
Bought a 2006 scion xa that previously had the charcoal canister assembly and fuel filler pipe cover replaced under tsb eg047-06.cel was on when i bought the car, and the codes p043e, p043f, p2401, p2401, p2419 indicated the same components were damaged again.i replaced the components affected by the tsb, which included un updated part number for the fuel tank filler pipe cover holder (77248-52050).after clearing the codes, the car was fine for several thousands of miles until the cel came back on with the same codes.it doesn't make sense to continue replacing the charcoal canister every time these codes reappear.i cannot find any new information to indicate toyota has a permanent fix for this recurring issue, and i haven't come across any alternate fix on the internet that resolves it.i am contemplating some sort of work around to seal the canister and the electrical connections to prevent the water intrusion into the canister, but i also don't want to doing anything that will prevent the canister from functioning properly.i also don't want to ignore the cel in the event the cel stores other codes unrelated to this issue.
The contact owns a 2006 scion xa. While driving various speeds, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the gear shifter made a loud noise while driving in reverse. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
Engine is suddenly jolty and jumpy immediately after starting, and bumpy especially at an idle but also higher speeds, in any direction of movement.check engine light is flashing, and then solid, then back to flashing (repeat) but every diagnostic test done just reads "error."
Check engine came on around 47,000 miles, mechanic said problem with emissions, would cost at least $500 to fix, but not covered by toyota federal emission warranty anymore since mileage is over 36,000.
The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xa. The contact was driving 45 mph when a burning smell emitted from inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired.thefailure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 25,576.
The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xa. While driving at approximately 35 mph she heard a noise and the vehicle stalled. She notice smoke under hood. There was no warning lights before the failure occurred. The fire department was on the scene. The vehicle was towed the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact insurance company will investigate the failure.the current and the failure mileage were 23,000.updated 01/14/11 the consumer stated the vehicle stalled and smoke began to emit from the vehicle.the vehicle was totaled. Updated 03/28/11
Check engine light came on at about 50k miles.dealer checked it out and the sensors indicated that the charcoal canister assembly was defective, along with the charcoal filter.including parts and labor this repair coasted me $557.my car is only 3 yeas old!!!moreover, for the assembly part i was charged $327 whereas i found the part on-line for $230.
Charcoal filter is sending check engine message causing car to fail emissions test.
My check engine went on and i checked for all possible problems.gas cap etc. I drove for several trips and when the light didn't go off i called my scion dealer. I told him what was happening and he said to bring the car in at my convenience to have it checked. I asked him if i was still under warranty and he said yes because i only had 27,000 miles on the car. They inspected it and found it to be the charcoal canister which he said had a pin hole in it. He said it would cost $531.03 plus tax to replace it. I then said that it should be covered under my warranty. He said no because it over the warranty time. I purchased the sionxa on dec 5th 2005, but did not receive the car until the 28th of dec. Any way this is an emissions problem which is covered under my 50 thousand mile warranty.he said it is not an emissions problem and i will have to pay $45.00 for the check up. And the $531.03 for the replacement. I will not be paying that money for and obvious manufacturer defect. I will be getting rid of my scion xa and getting a vehicle which fixes defects. Toyota replaced all charcoal canisters with a good one after they found the defect in my vin # area for the 2006 xa's. There should be a recall on this part. Since the soul purpose of the filter is for emissions than it should be replaced by the manufacturer at no cost to the consumer!!!
Scion xa 2006 with just 46000 (mostly highway!) miles did not pass emissions test due to diagnostic codes: p2401, p043e, po43f, p2419, p2402 indicating 'evaporation leak/emission problems.toyota customer relations stated the repair was not under warranty and refused to help me with the cost of repair - see case #: 1310120509.the dealer charged me $588.39 (after a discount of $95.00 diagnostic fee) to install 'charcoal canister, fuel filler neck, fuel tank filler holder, & charcoal filter sub-assy.' the fact that it is standard for a car with less than 50,000 miles to fail an emissions test should not be considered in compliance with epa standards.toyota is charging consumers the cost of repairing a defective evaporation system in order to comply with epa standards therefore the nhtsa should issue a recall of the defective product(s) - see tsb #: eg047-06.updated 02/04/14
Well, i too have a 2006 scion xa with less than 5,000 miles on it!the left tweeter and mirror combination must be a bad design because mine is leaking and it also caused the tweeter to fail.the ventilation system for heating/cooling and defogging is woefully inadequate. I'm very concerned about the person who stated that his scions have improperly gaped spark plugs!! doesn't seem like toyota and now, scion is building cars the way they used too. Dealers and service people aren't very friendly and both dealerships in this maryland area are less than amicable or skilled about service-not very knowledgeable or don't really care. I'm very disappointed with this scion product-it rattles and squeaks on the interior, but it's hard to pinpoint where they are coming from and not the usual expected toyota quality. Brakes seem to take too long to stop and are mushy even at low speeds. Car is basically a modern-day disappointment and i read about the fuel filler tube needing to be replaced on a scion forum because poor design causes fuel to spill over when filling the tank to near full-happened to me on several occasions. Thought i was supposed to enjoy my new car, but it it worrisome and will probably spend a lot of time getting the defects straightened out. Also, on a scion forum, the radio controls on the steering and radio/cd head unit have been known to fail. Car seems poorly engineered and low quality. Headlights in particular are a very poor design on dark streets and also in the fog-provide little illumination for any distance.

2006 toyota prius--headlamps have gone out on passenger and driver side six times dating from 2008 to the present. The lights have gone out at night creating a safety situation especially one incident on a dark bumpy desert road. Replacement cost varies from dealer to independent repair shop---$100.00 plus to over $300.00 for each headlamp.toyota dealership paid for first four replacements but will not longer pay for the replacements.
Charcoal canister/evap/fuel filler tube problem. Same as was listed on the technical service bulletin for scion xas and the like. I have a 2006 scion xa. I am still under warranty and they're telling me they won't even cover this under the warranty.
I own a 2006 scion xa and very recently the check engine light came on. I had it diagnosed..."p2401 evaporate leak detection pump control circuit". The charcoal canister and some other small parts are ruined due to water leakage. I am one of many scion owners who now has to pay major parts and labor charges to have this fixed. It should most certainly be covered under warranty for the life of the car, not just for the first 50,000!
As many people have already reported i have a 2006 scion xa. The check engine light came on so i took it to the dealership. The car only has 52,000 miles on it and i bought it brand new. They stated it was a charcoal canister that needed to be replaced and it was not under warranty or covered by anything. They want $784.00 plus tax to fix the issue. With so many people having this problem i do not see how they can get away with making customers pay for this on basically brand new cars.
Check engine light comes on. Dealership comes up with codes p043e, p043f, p0456, p0401,p0402, p2419 evap codes related to tsb eg047-06. However, this is not restricted to just this model and is caused due to a defect in the design of the fuel system, that allows water intrusion into the charcoal canister and the filter, leading to expensive repairs. Many other scion models as well as other economy sized toyota vehicles share the same defect in the design leading to the service bulletin, which actually should be a recall so that this design defect can be fixed properly at the dealership by toyota. If neglected by consumers or if the fix is postponed due to it being so expensive, it can lead to serious safety issues related to the fuel system of the vehicle.

2006 scion xa- check engine light at 89k miles; codes indicated "evaporative system" issues. Brought to the dealer; was told charcoal canister needed replacing as there was water in it that shorted out a purge valve. Did a search online and found a toyota technical service bulletin (tsb eg04706) that described retrofitting a new fuel vent tube collar to prevent water intrusion and all subsequent cars after a certain vingot a new design. Since the car is well out of warranty i ended up spending $750 to fix. If the tsb was implemented earlier as part of normal servicing it would have only been .5 hrs labor adding a small part (collar) at much lower cost. The fact that toyota lets the consumer take the car to failure before rectifying the issue is just not right.
The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xa. The contact stated that the check engine warning lamp was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that there was an evaporation leak in the fuel system.as a result, the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 37,000.updated 04/11/12*ljupdated 04/23/12
My question is has the toyota scion xa-2006 , with its many many complaints of a fuel tank problem been recalled yet.i ask that because with a mere 37,000 miles scion has offered me $235 out of the $800 required to repair the fuel system because of an evap. Problem.i initially agreed to the amount and now think thatis not enough, taking into account of the many many toyota, scion xa 2006 with the fuel system problem.i did file a complaint on about feb 27th.the o.d.i number is 10449553- if that is pertinent.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Vapor canister and filter failure due to unknown causes, this effects the emissions and mileage per gallon drop. After contacting multiple dealerships they told me this has been a common problem with my model car and all dealers have been flooded with this kind of problem with toyota's as well. I was told that a technical service bulletin had been issued on this problem due to the design problem in the evap system.

Failure of emissions in scion x-a.check engine light comes on.told it was gas nozzle and charcoal canister.

Check engine light came on, had it checked by an independent mechanic, who told me the related code indicated a problem with the emissions sensor. I took the car to the dealer and they charged me over $900 for a faulty charcoal filter. I have since come across this site http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2006/toyota/scion_xa/fuel_system_gasoline/problem.aspx detailing that this should have been a recall by the manufacturer because of a known defect., however it never was.
I own a 2006 scion xa and like many others, have had to replace the charcoal canister, etc. The check engine light came on again, and again the codes say it is the same problem. Why does toyota get away with this? it seems like a class action suite to me!!! thieves!!!
Started up the car and smelled a strong smell of gas. Discovered that the fuel line had ruptured spewing fuel onto the engine causing a potential fire hazard or explosion. Thank god we stopped the engine immediately or we would have been incinerated once we had reached highway speeds and engine was hot.vehicle is now not safe to drive and has to be towed in for repairs.
The contact owns a 2006 toyota scion xa.the contact stated that the latch located on the top of the back seat, which holds the seat in position, failed.this poses a huge safety hazard for occupants seated in the back seat because they could become injured if the seat falls out of position.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure and current mileages were 15,000.
Took my car to lipton toyota ft lauderdale with a clicking noise when making a hard right turn. They misdiagnosed it as a bad axle. After the repair the car drove worse. Lipton said that i needed new motor mounts. Mounts replaced & car was still bad and they sent me away with a faulty car. Car started to drive so badly as the new axles were failing.a different garage replaced the axles found thatclicking was from brake pads not installed properly '12/23/17-i took my car in to lipton toyota concerned with a clicking noise when i turn right from a stopped position. Was advised by lipton i needed new front axles '10/17/18 had the axles and stabilizer replaced (as i was moving to nc and wanted a road safe car for the long drive)paid $1059.30 '10/18/18 returned car to lipton as it did not sound or run right(lipton could not correct)'10/25/18 returned car to lipton as the car sounds were getting worse. Lipton advised that the problem was i needed motor mounts replaced. Paid $864.01. When i picked up my car there was no improvement and the service technician said he could not do anything more for me.'10/27/18 i moved to nc and drove my car 800 miles (car sounded bad, rode badly and felt very unsafe)' 11/20/18 my car driving was gets worse and right turns were becoming scary. I took it to fred anderson toyota in asheville. Had left front wheel bearing($491.87)and left front axle seal replaced.'12/10/18 had right axle and seal replaced at fred anderson (warranty) still driving poorly and new axles seals still leaking.'12/13/18 took my car to fred anderson toyota to have the left axle replaced, but refused to do the replacement as they thought it was a faulty transmission.'01/03/19 took car to jack smith transmission. They found transmission was ok. Replaced left axle ($339.86)car fixed.they found the original complaint was a badly installed brake pad at lipton not the axle
I had driven into a left turn lane to perform a left turn and had waited for the light to turn green. When the light turned green i stepped on the gas as usual and the car moved backwards instead of forwards. I immediately braked but still hit the car behind me that was also waiting to turn left. The car behind me had no visible damage but my rear bumper was pushed forwards just enough that my rear left passenger door cannot be opened.
I had parked the car but my friend said that i was too far from the entrance of the restaurant so he offered to move it closer. After he backed out of the parking spot he changed gears to d[rive] but the car continued to move backwards. He called me over and showed me what the car was doing. He then put the car into p[ark], turn the engine off then started it back up again. This time when he put the gear into d[rive] the car moved forward and things seemed have gone back to normal.
The accident occurred in republic, mo at the intersection of hwys. 60 and p. I entered the intersection traveling west on hwy 60, making a left turn (south) on a green arrow onto hwy p.a driver traveling east on hwy 60 ran a red light (she claims it was yellow) and struck my vehicle on the front passenger side. At the time of the accident, i was wearing my seat belt.but, as the airbag deployed and the momentum of the crash was set in motion, i was thrown sideways into the passenger seat.my right leg struck the gearshift (my car is a standard), shattering my right femur. I underwent surgery to have a rod installed in my leg and spent 5 days in cox south hospital in springfield, mo.i believe the seat belt failed (was sprung) when my elbow smashed down on the seat belt mechanism when my car was struck.one injury recorded at the time of the crash was an indentation on my right elbow and horrible bruising--an injury incurred i surmise when my elbow struck the seat belt mechanism, releasing the belt. On the xa, the seat belt mechanism sits up high--i often rested my elbow on it when shifting--which i now realize was unsafe.i have found no evidence of recalls for this extended seat belt mechanism, but obviously it is a safety issue during an accident, as my accident shows.after the accident, my nephew "tested" my theory by striking his elbow on the seat belt mechanism in the manner i had described. He reported that the belt popped open easily.
In motion on highway hit black ice driving 55 mile per hour safe for conditions that day drivers front impacted cement barrier airbags deploy on impact seat belt failed to restrain driver in proper seat due to seat belts and airbag failures , severe brain trauma resulted
I own a 2006 scion xa. I have owned the vehicle since new bought oct 2005. My car has an inconsistent braking system. The brakes feels as if they have a gap of air that prevents them from stopping the car and the pedaljerks beneath my foot. I live in boston and the failure appears more often in cold and slush/snow conditions. The brakes are frightening because they have failed at several pedestrian crosswalks and under "needed" or accident prevention circumstances. I had the brakes checked at the local woburn toyota dealer and was told they were fine. Upon a second maintenance service the same toyota dealer told me it was due to "hot spots". I complained to toyota because the vehicle was under factory warranty. Even though the vehicle at the time has less than 20k miles, they stated that it was my fault. I argued my point on the phone with no response. I filed an e-mail complaint through toyotas customer survey and then for safety reasons and concern of the well being of my children and myself, i did as suggested by the dealer and replaced the rotors and brake pads. By the next winter of 2008 my vehicle braking systems heartbreakingly enough had the exact same brake system failure. This has been a continued problem since owning this vehicle. The date listed below is the most recent incident however there have been no less than 20 other occurrences. I will always try to test my brakes to make sure they are still working before leaving my driveway in bad weather conditions.
The interior front disc pads constantly rub, grind and wear out on my scion xa 2006. I was told by a toyota technician (there is a defect in the design of the front brakes) that if the brakes are inspected and i am told they have lots of wear left - they are not reporting the wear on the inner wheel pads because of a defect in design. This has caused i believe much brake fading during normal city freeway stop and go.
- the contact called regarding a 2006 toyota scion xa.the contact stated that when stopping the vehicle the brakes will lock and the car would skid.therewere no warning indicators.this failure occurred intermittently. The contacttookthe vehicle to the dealer ,and the problem was diagnosed as hard braking .the contact stated that all four tires wore outand needed to be replaced at 7700 miles.she took the vehicle to the dealer recently, and was told that the brake padscracked and worn and need to be replaced.this is due to heavy and hard braking.

2006 scion xa comes from the factory with improperly gaped denso spark plugs they are gaped at 23 thousandths this causes the car to run rich causing tons of potential sensor failures. Denso specifically states that their plugs are to be gaped to 44 thousandths we own two xa the same year and both cars had the same plugs both were gaped wrong and both cars had plugs that were fouled out at less than 400 miles this is a major problem that needs to be corrected scion acknowledged the problem to me but refused to repair it under warranty and refused to issue a recall they don't care that this is a major problem effectingcars and the environment i pulled the plugs on a friends 2004 model and they were gaped improperly as well and he has had to spend thousands replacing sensors that were all caused by his car running rich please help cnn is looking into running this as a breaking story and it needs to be addressed. Also the paint on these cars have already begun to chip this is highly unusual for a new car i suspect a very cheap paint job with insufficient clear coat please investigate.
I own a 2006 scion xa. I have had to replace three of the electric window controls, and the emission system keeps having problems. Check engine light keeps going on. This happens when the vehicle is running, in motion and stationary.
2006 scion xa check engine light with diagnostic codes: p2401, p043e, p043f, p2419, p2402 indicating "evaporation leak/emission problems." there apparently are service bulletins out on this issue and toyota will not acknowledge that this is a widespread issue with the xa model. Toyota wants over $700 to repair a known defect and will not help with cost of repair. Toyota is charging consumers the cost of repairing a defective evaporation system in order to comply with epa standards therefore the nhtsa should issue a recall of the defective product(s) - see tsb #: eg047-06. Hi! i bought 2006 scion xa. While driving the vehicle it seems to make noise while i'm backing up and step on the brake. It sounds like something is going to fall off the back. I am scared to go for a long drive. Also, when it's raining i have a feelingthat my car is going to lose control and it could cause an accident. I am willing to get an inspection at no cost to me, so i can keep vehicle without worrying. I greatly appreciate that, thanks and god bless!
Car begins to accelerate at a high rate. Rpms spike.
Our 19 year old daughter was driving the vehicle on the morning of the accident.she was exiting a shopping center complex and although the vehicle's acceleration pedal was slightly pressed the vehicle would not accelerate and acted as the brakes were depressed in place of the accelerator.the vehicle suddenly lunged forward out of control and would not respond when she applied the brakes.the vehicle spun around headed in the opposite direction striking a tree head on with the passenger side of the vehicle.the problem is a result of a defective acceleration system which has been denied by toyota.there are no floor mats in the vehicle which could have caused the car to accelerate without her intending to.
This happened june 28, 2016.while driving under 35 mph speed limit, car speed suddenly accelerated, i hit the brake pedal hard several times, no response, vehicle continued at high speed, vehicle now running left and right uncontrollably, got hold of the hand brake and pulled it up hard, vehicle slowed down just in time before the road ended to a sharp left turn.i was on city road and luckily there was no other vehicle at the time.
Sudden acceleration incident.first time it happened. 2006 scion xa. Driving back from n.m. On i-25. Going approx. 65 mph. Was passing car on right when came to a hill.had to accelerate.suddenly car engine revved up, made a loud noise and rapidly accelerated.i couldn't slow it down because the brakes wouldn't work.i managed to get around the car and tried to slow down the car so that i could get off on the right shoulder and stop the car.somehow managed to slow the car enough (i'm not sure how because the brakes wouldn't work) to get off on the right shoulder.pulled the emergency brake to stop the car and turned it off. Tried to start it again, and it was doing the same thing.turned it off and waited for awhile.finally turned the car back on, and it was operating normally.managed to get to my destination safely. Haven't taken it to toyota.not sure they would do anything.
I was on the highway and using cruise control. When i tried to turn it off, the light went off, but the vehicle continued to hold speed. The i tried to engage the cruise control and decelerate/accelerate, but the only effect was accelerating up to 80mph. Stepping on the brakes only slowed the vehicle down and didn't disengage the cruise control. I tried to shift the gears to neutral and still no effect except the engine revving to the red line. So i floored the brakes and could only slow the vehicle down to 20mph. Worried about what else may happen, i exited the highway and turned on to a street. Seeing no other options, i chose to just turn the engine off. At that point the power brakes stopped working and the car was still rolling. So i shifted the gear to park and we stopped abruptly.
The contact owns a 2006 scion xa. While driving 15 mph the throttle became stuck and the speed increased which caused the contact to crash into the curb, the tire blew out and the front fender was damaged. No one was injured and no police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to her residence. A report was filed with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 19,868.
