The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc.when the contact closed the passenger door on the vehicle, the passenger side air bag deployed without warning.the vehicle filled with chemicals from the air bag.the contact received a recall notice, but the dealer stated that the repairs for the air bag would be at the contact's expense.the vin and mileages were unknown.

Our daughters 2005 scion tc was in an accident that was a head on collision she lost control on black ice and hit a pole.her car has been deemed totaled by the insurance and body shop due to the severe damage to the car.she has numerous injuries from this accident and the air bags not deploying.it is very strange when i called toyota they claim there are no recalls for airbags which i see in fact there is by this website.they also state that the airbags would not deploy in this type of accident ,with her hitting the pole direct and the car being totaled because of the damage how can they say this?they have not even seen the car and over the phone they are stating the airbags would not go off in this type of accident.sounds like toyota needs to get their facts straight.thank god my daughter is still here, she had an angel looking after her that night because it certainly was not toyota.

Takota recall. I was recently in a potentially fatal accident and my airbags didn't deploy and i hit my head on the steering wheel pretty hard. I was on the highway and a deer bolted out in front of my car and my initial reaction was to avoid it and ran into a traffic sign and smacked the guard rail going around 50 mph.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc.while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy.there were no injuries. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to a salvage yard.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 142,000.

Hi, i was involved in a car accident december 2, 2009.i own a scion tc 2005 model.i was traveling on highway 440 outer beltline near ext 7 glenwood avenue.it was raining heavily at approximately 6:30pm when i hit a puddle in the left far lane and began hydroplaning, i hit the car next to me on my passenger side and started spinning approximately 4-5 times and hit the cement barrier on the bridge of crabtree creek.i hit the barrier head on and the spun around again and hit the back drivers side on the cement as well. My car ended against the cement barrier on the far right side of the road facing the wrong direction.my complaint is that my airbags never deployed. Luckily i was not severely injured but hitting head on it is my opinion and that of the owner of the collision repair shop that my car was brought to, that the air bags should have deployed for safety reasons. I was driving at a speed of approximately 50 miles per hour, no more then 55. I have done research that shows it only take speeds of 8-14 mph that the air bags should go off at a sudden deceleration, and i was certainly going faster then that.there were a few recalls on the airbags on my make and model of vehicle but these were mostly pertaining to the side and knee bags. I have filed a claim with the toyota/scion customer service representatives and sent them pictures and i do have a case number with them. The dot people that came to the site of the crash had mentioned that this site of road is being investigated for previous accidents.

05 scion tc collided with another vehicle on the highway.after impact scion spun out of control and hit guard rail.air bag in 05 scion did not deploy, driver of scion had an injured neck, bruise on left thigh and lump on forehead from hitting it in on steering wheel. Driver of scion was taken to the hospital, and has to undergo physical therapy due to neck injury.

I was rearended in my 2005 scion tc, by a 2003 ford explorer and pushed(sandwiched) into an f350 truck in front.the car was totaled.the airbags did not deploy and both driver and passenger seatbelts did not lock.

Takata recall??airbags failed, during accident. After being cutoff and going down route x. Lost control hiding concrete. Car flipped, was dragged a few feet's - no airbags. Passenger still has anxiety when getting into vehicles-the one thing you'd think would respond didn't. How do we ever get the sense of security back. *dt

The passenger seat and passenger side curtain airbags deployed after a passenger exited the vehicle and closed the door. I was still in the drivers seat at the time. My right arm and right cheek were scratched.

Purchased 2005 scion tc new on 12/29/2004 have had several problems with interior trim and paint. Then last june (2009) when opening the trunk (hatch back) the latch plate came off the car in my hand hanging by a cord. This plate is made of very thin plastic and attached to the car with thin plastic clips. The clips are not strong enough to with stand the constant use and amount of upward pressure it takes to raise the hatch. In december 2009 the lever on the drivers seat back to move the seat forward to allow passengers in the back stuck and wouldn't move. Couple days later the lever would move but didn't work. The seat back can only be moved now using the lever at the side of the seat bottom. The car had less than 50,000 miles on it when the trunk/hatch piece broke off and under 60,000 miles when the seat lever stopped working. All the interior trim pieces that line the hatch window have broken off and they are also only held in place with these very flimsy plastic clips. The drivers side front pillar airbag cover has been falling off since the 3-4 month i owned the car the dealer has "tried" to repair and still when you shut the door or just driving the cover falls off.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc.the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, another vehicle crashed into the drivers side and caused the contact to crash into the guard rail on the passenger's side.the air bags failed to deploy and the contact sustained back injuries. A police report was filed.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the defect.the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

The contact owned a 2005 scion tc. While the contact was accelerating from a traffic light, her vehicle was t-boned by another vehicle that ran a red light. The entire driver's side of the vehicle was smashed in and the vehicle was totaled. There were no injuries. The side curtain air bags and driver's side air bag did not deploy. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to a body shop. The manufacturer was contacted and reminded by the contact that there was an unknown recall for the side air bags for which the vehicle was repaired for in 2006. The manufacturer responded with a letter, stating that they assigned an engineer to diagnose the vehicle. Based on their inspection, they did not find enough frontal damage to command the deployment of the side air bags. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 91,400.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc. The contact stated that the driver's side air bag warning indicator was illuminated. The contact also stated that the horn and the cruise control was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the module was defective but did not disclose which module. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

My son was involved in an accident involving his 2005 scion tc hatchback. The right front tire left the road and he attempted to correct this. When he corrected, the back end of the car went out from under his control. He crossed the center line and entered the ditch on the left side of the road. He hit a driveway culvert head on. The car then flipped end over end and turned sideways before it landed nose down in a ditch approximately 40 feet from initial impact. Neither the driver or front passenger airbags deployed. He and i have attempted to contact scion for assistance, they have given us no help. Could you please help us out?

Consumer was hit from the rear, then collided with a guardrailon the left quarter panel. The air bags did not deploy. The driver hit his heads on the steering wheel and the front passenger hit his head on the dashboard and sustained a broken shoulder.

2005 toyota scion was involved in an accident and the air bags failed to deploy.*mrthe driver and passenger were seriously injured.

Dt*:the contact stated that the front driver air bag did not deploy in a collision that occurred when the vehicle was stopped in traffic. Another vehicle ran into the back of the contact's vehicle driving 25 mph.the seat belt was worn and the airbag warning light was illuminated prior to the crash. There were injuries to the contact's back. The vehicle was deemed totaled.updated 07/31/06

Scion admits there is a problem with the combination of accessories:1) auto-dimming mirror and 2) side curtain air bags. When the mirror is installed there is a chance that the wiring obstructs the air bags. They claim a tsb will be issued but can give me no time line for the issue of a new wiring harness. Dealers will not even pull the driver's "a" pillar trim to see if the wiring happens to be correct. So, we just wait ... And wait ... And wait and pray that there is no need for the airbags to function.there is also a problem with the "lid" covering the radio. It functions when it wants - often taking many attempts to get it to open. On the open road this is quite a distraction. We all know how many accidents are cause by such "minor" distractions as tuning the radio, talking on my phone, etc.

Four way flashers start and stop while driving.

The contact owned a 2005 scion tc. When the contact entered the vehicle, she noticed a flickering light and smoke coming from the console. The contact stated that the console and roof of the vehicle were melted. The fire department was called and determined that there was an electrical fire. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was not towed or taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 172,000.

The car burns an excessive amount of oil and only has 163000 miles.

My 2005 toyota scion tcturned off while i was driving. I put vehicle in park and re started it.moments later the brakes failed and i turned into a plaza.at that point the steering failed. I did not know the vehicle was on fire until this point.i had no control of the car so i reached back and grabbed my two year old who was strapped in her car seat.right before we jumped out the car stopped completely ( tires melted), the flames were visible in front of me and the car filled with smoke.we jumped out and ran. Moments later the entire car was in flames. Witnesses told me that i was on fire for a while and they turned around to get my attention.no injuries or fatalities were suffered with this fire but it was way too close for comfort.

According to toyota service the engine had a catastrophic failure lower part of the engine due to no oil in the engine. According to the service department this was caused by excessive oil consumption. The problem occurred on the highway while driving to work. The car stopped on the middle of the 210 fwy without any warning lights on the dash panel.

I was driving and the car just died.

2005 scion tc.consumer writes in regards to vehicle vin# not included in oil consumption program to repair the existing oil problems.

I purchased a red 2005 scion tc for my daughter in february, 2019 from toyota auto nation in davie, fl.they had it priced in good condition, so i expected to get some use out of it.i paid almost $6,000. Month later it overheated on the highway (595) and my daughter had to pull over late at night on the highway and i had to have it towed to my home. Very scary and unsafe situation for a teen. Had it towed back to their service stationand it turned out to be a problem, that cost me $600. I find it hard to believe that this company would not have seen any damage under the hood.shame on them for selling me a car that broke down in one month. I have called them and they will not help with the payment.it is 'as is' i called and text the sales girl and never received a call back or response. Finally put a bad review on their website and received an e-mail to contact manager to help with the situation, only to find out that was an automated email and again told 'too bad'. It is now july and yet again it broke down on my daughter as she was at the gas station.it would not start up after she turned it off.tried to jump it and nothing.once again headed to go to the dealership service station. At first was told it was only the battery, so i say go ahead, i will pay the $140 and replace it and we will go from there. Only to get another callback from the manager stating that there is more wrong with the car, that after the $89 five point check on the vehicle and replacing the battery that it still did not start.they would have to keep it over the weekend.it is costing me an arm and a leg and i need help with this.i feel like they lied about this vehicle and allowed a car that is not safe to be bought at their business.i am concerned for my child's safety and only want what is fair.

I do not understand why toyota knows that there is a defect in their engines on these cars but they would not recall them. They recalled the camry with the same engine but not the scion tc. They redesigned the engine in 2007 to fix the defect. The known defect is the head bolts were too short, causing them undue stress and eventually stripping out the bolt holes for the heads. This causes the car to overheat blow the engines. This is a safety issue as many people have had this happen in the middle of the road and at intersections where the car dies. People can be rear ended and broad sided because of this. Toyota knew about the defect because they fixed recalled the camry which had the same engine. This is no small fix. For most owners this out of pocket expense is between $3000 - $6000 dollars depending on how much damage was caused by the over heating.there are complaints all over the internet of this happening but no one in the government is doing anything to push toyota into fixing their known screw up.

The throttle body stuck open causing it to rev to excessive rpms and then would finally die.this happened while driving at highway speed in 7/08.the throttle body was replaced and then once again it failed, this time sticking closed causing the car to die in an intersection.this was in 3/11 (this year) with only 73k on it total miles ( only30k on this throttle body).when we received the new part this time, it had been obviously redesigned with a vent allowing corrosion not to occur.this is a real hazard when you have no control over engine speed while driving.with the redesigned part ( a toyota/scion part) it is obvious this was a "known" problem, yet no recall was ever issued or received.

The vehicle started shaking uncontrollably and a loud knocking noise had come from the front of the vehicle.the driver was able to control the vehicle, and took it to the dealer.however, the mechanic maintained that the problem could not be duplicated.the vehicle would knock and shake after being started.when driving on the freeway, the vehicle would rattle and felt as if the vehicle could not be controlled due to the shaking of the motor.the mechanic found various problems with the air hose mounts, air cleaning housings and later the motor and engine mounts needed replacement due to weakness.the transmission mounts and the right side engine mount were removed and replaced. *sc

Both catalytic converters failed and need replaced.dealership ( fort bend toyota ) stated the failure was unusual and premature.defective equipment for that model/ year / and mileage.

The manual transmission toyota scion tc has a violent cold start jerking and bucking at a slow speed when it is started until the engine is warm. The dealership has tried to replace sensors and it continues to do the same thing. Toyota claims it is operating as designed as there are no computer "fault codes" displayed. Others have driven it and claimed that it is not normal, but toyota refuses to do anything about it - "it is operating as designed." many dealers have looked at it and have not been able to fix it, although they agree that the manual transmission vehicle is not as popular as the automatic and few people pursue the problem. Autoweek magazine wrote about the problem in the september 19, 2005 issue and the official response from scion was that there was no problem with the vehicle although it would buck and jerk for them as well.

I own a 2005 scion tc (manufactured by toyota).recently the driver side power window was unable to close.the window would go half way up and then stop.it would go down fine from the half way up position.the motor was in good working order.i took my car to a local garage and they said that the window had come out of the run channel and that the metal piece which holds the run channel was bent and cracked.as the door and window mechanism has never had any kind of trauma and as the parts are all within the structure of the door i can only assume that the parts and/or installation of the window pieces were defective.i surmise that over time (vehicle is just 3.5 years old with 45k miles) the force of the normal window operation has warped the defective parts holding it in place.in my research i noticed that toyota issued a safety bulletin (nhtsa action # ea08004) for 2004 on their corolla and matrix models for a power window problem on these cars.i think myproblem may be related to this.my local toyota dealer is not being cooperative saying my car is out of warranty so i intend to take up the issue with the regional representative.ps my mechanic said that he'd guess that my car wasn'tthe only scion tc that had this problem.

Paint peeling, chipping, undersurface "scratches" appearing in the paint. It seems toyota has a bad batch of paint on thier scion line of vehicles, as i see that there are many more complaints of problems with defects in the paint.

In stop & go bumper-to-bumper traffic, my client took her foot off of the brake of 2005 toyota scion xa, and car accelerated on its own.after crash, client could not shift car from drive into park position.

Cd player malfunctions and won't play cds. It reads error 4and completely shuts down all cd functions including eject.

The rear trunk hatch molding panel broke off and the electrical cord with latch release is unsecured and dangling. It has to be secured to car with tape but that covers brake light. I was pulled over today by a california police officer , who informed me that it "is a safety hazard and unsafe". There are thousands of scion tx and xbs from 2005-2011 with the same problem as seen in this facebook page and petition for recall.http://www.facebook.com/pages/scion-tc-and-xb-defective-trunk-hatch-handlei have visited multiple scion toyota service centers and contacted customer service by phone (including 1-18-2012). Scion will not replace part with the re-engineered/ improved scion part or cover the cost of repair/instillation unless you qualify for "customer loyalty" and have serviced your vehicle at scion dealership service center. They will not make a recall; denying it is a safety issue which is contrary to what the california police department says.

I was on my way to work when the vehicle in front of me came to a complete stop. I was approx. Three car lengths behind her (which is plenty of distance at 25mph) when i applied my brakes though nothing happened. They made a grinding noise (like the pads were gone, but they are new ceramic pads). I ended up hitting the vehicle in front of me. I got a citation for following to close, which is $260.00, my insurance was increased by over $100.00 a month, i had to pay for her car plus $3750.00 of damage on mine. She didn't have insurance and was driving on a suspended license.when i told the officer what had happened with my car he just looked at me as if i was stupid.this is a major problem that is and has cost people a lot of money, not to mention being without a vehicle.

Dt*:the contact stated after the vehicle was parked, it started smoking from under the hood on the passenger side near the windshield.the fire department was called to the scene and filed a fire report.the fire marshal determined the cause of the fire was a defect in the fuel line.the dealership and manufacturer were alerted.updated 3/9/2006 -

I was told by a ga mechanic that i need to purchase a "vapor emissions canister" for my 2005 scion tc in the amount of $520.96 (parts & labor)i see there is a recall/technical safety bulletin on this belowbulletin no: s-sb-0030-09date of bulletin: 08/30/2010summary description: scion: some tc vehicles may exhibit a mil on condition with one or more of the following dtcs: p0455, p0441 or p0456. *pe 2005 toyota scion tc fuel system, gasoline service bulletin 288332nhtsa:action number: 10033635 service bulletin number: 288332report date:jun 02, 2009component:fuel system, gasoline summary: scion: some tc vehicles may exhibit a mil on condition with one or more of the following dtcs: p0455, p0441 or p0456. *pedo i really need to purchase this or can this be corrected by scion/toyota?

Hatch handle broke as it has on many scion tc's.

During cold weather, the latch on the trunk of a 2005 scion tc won't stay closed, keeping the hatch opened until it warms up, then it will close, but if it's cold outside it will stay opened.

Purchased 2005 scion tc new on 12/29/2004 have had several problems with interior trim and paint. Then last june (2009) when opening the trunk (hatch back) the latch plate came off the car in my hand hanging by a cord. I have had numerous problems with my 2005 scion tc since purchase on 7/16/2004.the day after purchase the front tire was sitting on the rim.terrible problems with scratches it seems as though you look at it and it scratches and the paint is peeling and bubbling all over, the power lock button fell inside the door within the 1st week i had the car.have been to dealership 3 different times concerning the sunroof making terrible rattling noises and it sounds like the whole top of the car is moving when you make a turn, then after it rains, i live in fl and no visible water is on the top, open the window and water on the lip of the sunroof leaks water all over you. They have took the car apart for sun roof and can't fix, tore out the headliner. Also the inside metallic parts scratch easily, the dealership tech destroyed the part around the gear shift.my car insurance has doubled since i bought this car because of accidents i have less than 9,000 miles on this car, have met with gm, and everyone thinks your crazy. This is the worst car i have ever purchased and it has been nothing but a nightmare, the people at the dealership say oh your the only one with the paint problem , it's wear and tear, yet we have another new vehicle that gets driven to work every day and the paint looks better than my car.i am very disappointed with toyota and i traded in a toyota to get this car, i guarantee you i will never buy another scion, i have wondered why they are not advertised on tv, now i know why.i spend my time going to the doctors and the dealership being treated like an idiot.they kept my car 5 days last time and want it again.if your car leaks like mine please report it as they have had an outside rain doctor check it out an it says it's designed that way, yat it did not do this in the beginning.i hate to trade it in and pass this nightmare on to someone else.i have come across tons of complaints and many service advisories.

Car: 2005 scion tcpurchased: mcgee toyota of hanover, ma in may 2007. -emergency brake failing 2 weeks after purchase, which caused an accident.-the dealership misdiagnosing the wheel bearing (2-3 times, finally fixing it).-we've been to mcgee toyota probably 5+ times now, and woburn toyota twice, all for problems with a 2005 scion tc.one of the other issues was when my wife bought the car, she bought a toyota extended warranty. We noticed a few weeks after purchase that the weather stripping was dry-rotting, and woburn toyota said they wouldn't replace it since it wasn't a factory windshield. We were originally told by mcgee toyota that we could take this car to any toyota dealership and the warranty would be valid. Why were we not told by mcgee toyota when she bought the car, that the windshield had been replaced? mr murphy said he would do anything in his power to make us happy. Mr murphy said he would replace all four tires on the car (because we also noticed there were 3 different tires on the car), as well as replace the windshield for us. We picked the car up yesterday, to find her seats leaned back (it looked like some teenage kids just got done joy-riding), two bubbles in the middle of the new(another aftermarket windshield, which is not covered under warranty ? again!) windshield, a loud squeal coming from the engine when revved, and the clutch making a very loud and noticeable squeak when depressed. It seems that when we bring the car in for something, we leave with 2-3 more problems. When addressed by a manager, it comes to no avail. I attempted to talk with a manager about those issues, and when i refused to shake his hand, we were asked to leave!there are many more issues with this car, which are too many to list in this initial complaint.

2005 toyota scion developing a potential seat problem. *mr the consumer experienced the same problem with two different vehicles.both were purchased at the same dealer.in both cases the vehicles would roll backwards.the second vehicle was the consumer's mother's vehicle in which the vehicle had rolled backward after the parking brake was applied and struck the garage door opener (this occurred twice and caused significant body damage).the consumer noticed with her own vehicle that with the parking brake fully applied, the vehicle would still roll backwards, if not placed in park.the second incident with the consumers vehicle occurred when placed in neutral, the vehicle rolled backwards as if the brakes weren't applied. *sc

The car would stall when trying to accelerate more quickly than normal.this occurred three times in approximately 10 days.this occurred twice on town roads, and the third time while entering the interstate to deliver the car to the dealer for repair.a diagnostic test was done which produced code #p2112--throttle actuator stuck closed.three new parts were replaced: hose, throttle body; body assy, throttle; gasket , throttle bod.

The contact owns a 2005 scion tc. While the driver was at a stop light, the clutch pedal failed and traveledto the floorboard. Prior to the failure, the clutch pedal was sticking. The driver had to pull the clutch pedal up with her left foot. The vehicle was pushed over to the side of the road and later towed to the contact's residence. The contact stated that an independent mechanic came to his residence and diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 166,367.

As i was driving down the highway i accelerated to pass and it seemed as if my throttle shorted out.my car's rpm's dropped and i started to decrease speed.i removed my foot from the accelerator and it seemed to catch again, but as i pushed the pedal again my accelerator went out for a second time. At this point and my engine shut down.i shifted into neutral and tried to restart my car multiple times while rolling with no success.i had to try to maneuver my car through traffic with no power, rolling at a speed of about 40 miles per hour and decreasing rapidly while on the highway with a speed limit of 65.after i made my way over two lanes to the shoulder i tried to restart my car and it would catch and then turn off.i waited a few minutes and tried again, it started as if nothing had happened and i continued on.i could not take my car to the shop but planned to take it the next monday.on my way home on a sunday evening i was driving on one of the busiest streets in arlington, tx and the car started to shut down on me again.i pulled over and turned the vehicle off and waited a few minutes as i have done before and headed home.as i was driving again the car's throttle went out completely and i could do nothing except roll down the street.as i pushed the throttle my car would not exceed 2,000 rpm's and the max speed was 25 mph.i made it to a safe spot after rolling for about 2 miles at 12-20 mph on a 45 mph road.i had to wait until monday before i could have someone tow it away.the salesman and i did the research on the scion tc and assured me before purchasing the car, that acceleration was not a problem. I was concerned due to the problems toyota was having however i did not see any recalls or major problems except airbags, windows, and the sunroof recalls.i was expecting a great car, with great safety features and durability but issues with a throttle body going out while on the highway is a major concern that needs to be investigated.

*sc

In stop & go bumper-to-bumper traffic, my client took her foot off of the brake of 2005 toyota scion xa, and car accelerated on its own.after crash, client could not shift car from drive into park position.

Automatic transmission hesitates to shift gears everyday. Dealer states they cannot duplicate the issue. This started about a month ago (11/05). Paint chips on front of vehicle as well as scratches in the paint. Only drive on paved roads and highways. Noticed this within three months of having vehicle (05/05).

I was rearended in my 2005 scion tc, by a 2003 ford explorer and pushed(sandwiched) into an f350 truck in front.the car was totaled.the airbags did not deploy and both driver and passenger seatbelts did not lock.

My son lost his life on dec 11, 2008 he was riding passenger in his own car, when his friend whom driving lost control of vehicle, the vehicle slid side ways, passenger side into a utility pole slid around and rear ended a tree, at which time my son was ejected out through the back window as a result to his death. He had his seat reclined, in which you see people doing this all the time while traveling. The auto manufacturer needs to not only put have this there owners manuel (which people don't read unless there is a problem)the auto makers need to put a sticker on the sun visor to warn drivers/passengers not ride or drive with the seat reclined. I have check on the internet and found that the auto makers are aware of this problem and congress are the feds has yet to make the auto makers do anything else about this problem, how many more kids will it take before something happens... By the way i only had one son, who i loved very much and now he is gone...please if anything make the auto makers do something.

My daughter making a left turn was struck by a pickup truck.the driver's door was torn from the car, the drivers seat belt shredded causing her to be ejected from the car.the resulting injuries caused her death.2005 scion tc.

3 days ago drivers seat back lever could not be used to restore seat back position and had to use lever located next to seat bottom. Today lever could be moved but did not work and seat back again had to be repositioned using the other lever. Airbags are located in the seat so an appointment is scheduled for the 22nd of this month with the dealer.

I love my scion however i bought brand new from expressway toyota in dorchester ma in 2005 and with all the recalls i see on here i've only done one, and that the glass windshield.every other time i go the dealer and tell them that there are recalls, they ignore me and say that there isn't .i have some rattling noise going on under my car...i fixed once at the dealer and it came back again but now the dealer wants me to pay again to fix it and i think it's a safety concern in the car,the tires are also uneven, i keep having to change tires too often, the hatch lift in the back keeps breaking...major failing and cheap. It feels like it was glued on.i would an answer from the dealer where i bought the car as to why they keep denying my visits on the recalls and why in being charge the same safety work that i've paid once to get fix and now the same rattling noise keeps coming.i never get any information in the mail from my dealer either informing me of these recalls.i guess they are refusing to fix them.

When the consumer attempted to apply the brakes, the vehicle continued to accelerate which resulted in an accident.the consumer states that previous times when applying the brakes they seem a little slow and occasionally heard an unusually thump noise. The consumer never thought anything about something being wrong with the brakes because it is a brand new car.*sb

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 40 mph, the vehicle's front brakes made a loud screeching noise when the brakes were applied and caused increased stopping distances.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6 occasions and the front brake pads and discs were replaced twice.this did not remedy the problem.the manufacturer was not contacted.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 20mph on february 27, 2006 the brakes pulsated and there was a rattling noise present.the brake failure caused the vehicle to slide off the road.there was 15,040 miles on the vehicle when it was towed to the dealership.the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.the second time the brakes failed was on march 3, 2006.while driving 65mph the brake pedal would not depress.there was 15,200 miles on the vehicle when it was towed in the second time to the dealer.the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem again, because the vehicle computer had reset itself.there were no repairs made.

On august 17 @ about 4:30 p.m. In ther afternoon the wheels on my scion tc locked up going about 35 mph on the hyperion bridge.i applied the brakes in order to slow down on a slight turn at the end of the bridge and the rear of the car fishtailed and my rear right wheel hit and scraped the curb. Nothing yet has been done to correct the problem.i have reported the incident to toyota/scion.it has taken them a week to even get back to me to tell me that a field engineer will be inspecting the vehicle. The car is still at the dealership (toyota of glendale.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 45 mph on the interstate, the brakes failed.the brake pedal went to the floor.the vehicle skidded and hit a bump which caused injuries to the contact.a police report was taken. The vehicle was currently at an auto body shop.no lights were illuminated on the dashboard prior to the incident.

I noticed that the front right brake was wearing faster then the left because of an increase in brake dust on that rim.i took the car to a dealer and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the car and it was just wear and tear.i continued to drive the car for another 1000 miles or so and then i noticed that the car would make funny noises and shake and also have a harder time stopping from highway speeds.so i took the car into another dealer and theytold me that the car had a faulty, sticking caliper and that the car was unsafe to drive.

I took my 2005 scion tc to dealer to have a routine warranty oil change.tech told me that power steering fluid was completely black.when pressed for an explanation, i was told this was normal wear (even at only 25,000 mi).i had the fluid replaced for a hefty fee, but called to speak w/ a service manager and was again told that this is a normal wear issue "for all toyota's" and was assured that nothing was wrong with the steering system.i have never heard of this being "normal" as this is a contained system.another friend mechanic said it sounds as though something within the system is corroding or wearing (possibly metal chips or wearing of black rubber hoses).i am in the process of writing a letter to toyota/scion headquarters, as i haven't been able to find a reasonable explanation or a service bulletin and my warranty will be up in another 5000 miles.i don't want to find out something is wrong in a couple years, but be out of warranty by then.if you've had this same problem, please make a formal complaint!

2005 scion tc hatchhandlebroke from normal use.

I purchased my car at the end of nov in 04, about a week after i noticed a ton of scratches on my vehicle. I took it to the dealer and had the gm look at it, no help. I made an appointment and they said they would look at it. Still has not been looked at and it is now jan of 05. My car has over 500 small scratches and the clear coat is bubbling off the paint. I have done a lot of research and found this is a big problem with the 2005 scion tc. I was treated like a complete moron and no one wanted to help me and i was dismissed out the door.

I was driving approximately 65 mph on a highway during a somewhat cold, wet evening when all of the sudden my sunroof shattered.at the time i was not using my sunroof and it was completely closed.unfortunately my sun shade was not closed and as a result i experienced a shower of glass while driving on the highway surrounded by moderate traffic. This could have caused a major accident! the noise that came from the sunroof was similar to a small handgun going off in my car and for a minute or so i thought someone had taken a shot at me.after searching throughout my car for evidence of any type of road debris that might have caused this i could find none. Right now i am driving around without a sunroof and without the money to pay for the repair.this sunroof mechanism was designed poorly and i have read many other complaints and case descriptions similar to mine.

Incident occurred on 9/30/08 at ~3:15pm.i heard a loud bang (sounded like a shotgun blast) while driving on the highway at ~60mph.my immediate reaction was to duck...i literally thought someone was shooting at me.after a quick second to collect my wits, i looked around and saw no damage.once that "soaked" in, i realized i heard wind noise (i remember thinking that was odd because windows were up and sunroof was closed).i pulled back the sunroof screen and, to my astonishment, saw that the sunroof had spiderwebbed into thousands of tiny pieces...pieces that were already starting to fly off into traffic behind me.i pulled over and got out to look at the damage.the sunroof looked like something had blasted it from the inside out.i cleaned up the glass the best i could on the side of the highway and headed straight for the dealer.i had heard of deflector shattering (recall was completed on my deflector), but not the sunroof.the dealer refuses to pay for the sunroof even though i have the extended warranty.they claim that it was caused by a road hazard.the weather was mild, nothing hit my sunroof from the outside and, based on similar instances filed here, i firmly believe there is a defect with the design.toyota should do the right thing, fix this issue and honor their warranties.

To save for space regarding the number of characters i am allotted i have put a very detailed list of things that happened at this url:http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124643please take the time to review it since i know that the nhtsa has been querying this topic before.

Paint is chipping, was informed by dealership this is normal ware. I look at other vehicles that drive the same routes that i do and do not see chips on their cars. I would like for this to be investigated. There seem to be many complaints regarding this matter.

While driving down the road at about 10-15 mph (going very slowly because it was a dirt road), i heard an extremely loud pop which sounded like a gunshot.immediately stopping to inspect, i discovered that the moonroof had shattered completely.the webbing of the broken glass was more clearly visible from the inside than the outside.there was absolutely no sign of any impact.no other cars were around anywhere and nothing that could have hit the glass.as i continued to drive home, the pieces began to fall into the back passenger seat and finally the whole thing started to fall inside.i called a local toyota dealership and they told me a glass replacement would be $1158.00.i had previously noticed that in my daily driving, whenever the car structure flexed in any way (as in on uneven terrain and sometimes even on highway or interstate driving), i would occasionally hear popping sounds as if there was some type of strain on the frame.i suspect some type of manufacturer defect, especially since i see that other people have experienced the same type problem with the moonroof or sunroof exploding without cause.on a different note, the rear hatch lift keeps falling off.in calling toyota to complain about the moonroof issue, i was informed that they did issue a warranty enhancement for the hatch lift.i had received no information in the mail about the enhancement, but the representative said it must be because the vehicle was still registered under the previous owner in their system.don't know how that happened since we purchased from a dealership and have the title.

Driving at highway speed on an approximately 40 degree dry day with no extreme weather conditions. Heard a shotgun like noise at which point the sunroof shattered and glass fell into the drivers side and passenger side areas. Sunroof and wind shield were closed, screen was open. Pain resulted in ears and head however no lacerations were obtained. Falling glass onto driver and behind the car could have resulted in an accident with another vehicle. Cause unknown, no debris was seen or heard resulting in the shattering of the glass. Driver was able to pull over to the side of the road. Glass shattered around the edges and near the center of the sun roof, wind shield was open after incident, not prior.

Back hatch door handle garnish just came offthe vehicles rear hatch handle has a design flaw which makes the part fail.the rear hatch handle is fastened to the trunk/hatch with plastic clips.when the release button for the hatch is pressed, it only unlocks the hatch door.it does not spring upward like other vehicles.in the manual it shows to hold the release button and lift with the hatch handle.because there are no springs to help lift it applies lots of pressure to the clips which weaken them.eventually, they just snap.they are also known for snapping when the hatch is locked, in cold weather, and there are even reports of the release button melting. Replacement costs for this particular piece from the dealer is $170 for the handle and upward $200+ for labor.this price does not guarantee a permanent fix.this is the cost for the same faulty part.because scion owners are aware of this, many have resorted to their own means of fixing which is where the safety issues arise.scion calls this part an exterior garnish which implies it is for decorative purposes only and is not covered by warranty, but it is not just for looking at.this piece is a housing compartment for some vital components.because scion knows about this, they should be held liable for putting their consumers at risk.sign the petition to recall scion defective rear hatch handles and improve our safety..i have heard this is a class action lawsuit going on for this http://classactionlawsuitsinthenews.com/class-action-lawsuit-complaints/toyota-scion-xb-tc-class-action-lawsuit-complaint-filed-over-alleged-rear-hatch-door-handle-defect/

My 2005 scion tc purchased new had several swirl marks in the paint i was told it was from the porter washing the car to deliver to me. I said i refused to accept the car with the paint like that. They said i could bring it back and they would have it buffed out. I should have known then that there was a problem with the paint. This is my 6th new car 2nd new toyota i have never seen paint scratch, chip and bubble like this not to mention on a new car. My best friend owns body shop for high end cars and has cars shown at the concourse level he said that the problem is insufficient layers of paint and poor quality clear coat. My car is washed only by hand with the best available products and waxed the same way. I live in southern california several miles from the beach drive on city and freeway roads there is nothing in my driving habits that would cause the amount of paint damage i am experiencing. I even picked my car up from being serviced at the dealership and there were many scratches down to the metal and the dealership won't acknowledge them. I am on the phone with scion customer experience at least once a month over this car. There are so many complaints filed with the nhtsa for paint issues, this problem will never be a safety issue but it is an issue and i don't know who else to contact that has the ability to make the manufacture/dealership correct this for all the current owners and future buyers. My side view mirrors look like they have been sitting out in the desert for years the paint is completely cracked and faded. The slightest piece of road dirt hits and the paint is chipped all the way to the bare metal. This is not normal. Cars that cost less and are years older have better looking paint. This is an expensive problem to fix butthat expenses shouldn't be the consumers that trusted the reputation of toyota and spent hard earned money for the privilege of owning a new car. Its unfair to the consumer, unjust and beneath toyota.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion. The contact stated that while loading items into the rear lift gate, the lift gate fell and struck the contact in the face. The contact sustained a fractured nose bridge and injuries to the face. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who inspected the lift gate and advised that the hydraulic system had failed.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000 and the current mileage was 100,000. The vin was not available.

Moonroof deflector shattered with a pop sound at speeds 55 with all windows closed. Later inspection that it was cracked around all the edges about 1/2 ~ 1 inches into the center.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc. The contact stated that he attempted to open the rear hatch and the handle mechanism fractured and became detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 54,000.

Toyota talked to the consumer and stated that they did not believe there was a safety issue.the consumer stated the rear hatch would not open on his vehicle, until one day, the stays completely failed and the rear hatch came crashing down.

Around 10 months ago i was driving down interstate 27 with my sunroof completely closed. There were no other vehicles around me. Suddenly i heard a loud noise, i swerved a quite bit and then i noticed glass was falling on my head. I looked up to see my sunroof was gone. I immediately went to the dealership where they replaced the glass on warranty. Since it was replaced at no charge to me i was satisfied. The second incident happened last saturday night (9-16-06). I was driving home with the sunroof closed.there were no other cars around. We heard a quieter noise that sounded like glass shattering; we looked at all the windows but saw nothing wrong. The next day i noticed that the wind deflector was completely shattered. Most of the pieces of glass were still there except the leading edge of the glass. I've had the plastic film put on the car according to the recall but it isn't completely effective because there is glass missing. The dealership wouldn't replace the part on warranty. I am now in a dispute with scion to get them to replace the deflector. My car is still under warranty yet they won't replace the defective part stating that they have a policy against replacing glass for any reason. I have tried for a week now to resolve this with scion. They have told me that a representative will call me the next business day yet they don't call me.i have told them every time that i called that i can't drive my car until this has been resolved. I have done some research and found, on scion's forum (www.scionlife.com), many other people that this has happened too. There are many people that state their deflector has shattered, other people's sunroof has shattered and still other people's moon roof has shattered. Some people were moving when it happened, others were parked.scion replaced the part on most of the other vehicles.with all the glass panels in the roofs of these cars shattering for unknown reasons it's obvious to me that there is a dangerous design flaw.

I was driving my 2005 toyota scion tc at approximately 7am on an expressway at 55mph my sunroof closed as well as the shade cover both closed. I heard a loud pop followed by bits of glass falling in on me and the car through the top vent holes of the sunroof. I pulled over as soon as possible off the expressway to assess what had happened not an easy task when cars are doing speeds of 55-70+ .when i view the damage it appears that some how the front wind deflector of the sunroof had popped up and shattered the glass of the closed sunroof all around the edges along the track of the middle glass and it appears that it may have push the glassupward causing the middle glass to shatter and crumble inside the vehicle on to the shade cover that thankfully was closed leaving about an 8x4 inch whole in theglass and the rest of glass cracked and crumbly with chunks of glass on the inside as well as outside the car. Extremelydangerous but very thankful it did not cause serious injury to myself or anyonedriving on the road with me. I brought the car to my dealer and they claim the car was hit by something that shattered the glassand told me to contact my insurance company to do the repair. After reading about the numerous other complaints for the exact same problem i will be returning to the dealer today to further argue my point , no repair made at this time . My concern is that i have read that people have had multiple incidents after repairing the damage . There isno doubt there is a major flaw in the design of the sunroof . There was a recall on the wind deflectorthat involved putting some type of film over the deflector that would prevent it from cracking if hit by debris while open stopping it from breaking apart and flying off. I had that recall done in 2007 . I was told now that this incident had nothing to do with the recall issue, i disagree i believe the recall should have been for the mechanicsof the wind deflector it some how was forced to open up.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc. While the trunk was opened, it failed to remain open and slammed onto the contact's back. The contact did not require medical attention. The vehicle was diagnosed with a hydraulic lift failure. The specifics of where the vehicle was diagnosed were not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were unavailable.updated 02/24/15*ljupdated 9/12/2017

The trunk hatch handle of my 2005 scion tc broke off one day when opening the trunk hatch.the trunk handle is needed in opening the trunk.it has an electronic button release that must be pressed at the same time that the trunk is lifted.the handle broke off the car without warning and with only normal use.upon inspection of the part i and several mechanics (including toyota technicians) determined that the part is flimsy and of poor design.toyota technicians also admit that this is a common failure.it is a part used to raise the whole trunk hatch and is mounted to the car with weak plastic.i have searched online forums and have seen many people have experienced the same failure.although since most had their hatch handle break in the first 3 years (covered under warranty), the problem has not been specifically addressed.it is a problem for those of us that have failures outside of the warranty period because the part has not been officially determined to be defective.i have had the part replaced at my local dealership.i have tried to get the toyota distributors to determine this part defective, but they deny my claim saying it is outside the warranty.being covered under warranty is not the issue.i would like this part to be determined defective so that if i or other owners find it breaks off in the future it is replaced by toyota as it is an essential part of the normal functioning of the car.

1.driver door required more force to close. Later, i noticed the driver window would not raise more than half way.2. The window regulator arm is bent, and the internal attachment point is broken. The window gets progressively worse over time, and the raised height becomes lower.3. The dealer stated their must have been previous damage to the vehicle, and they were unable to resolve. Maaco said they were unable to resolve. More than a year later, took it back to the dealer, and the new service personnel were able to replace the regulator arm, and weld it to the door in march 2010. It's now june, and the window will no longer go past the half way point when attempting to close. Each time i've attempted to get a resolution, the dealer has insisted the internal door damage is a result of a previous accident (carfax is clear) or due to the previous owner replacing the door mounted audio speaker. Now, i read another complaint with very similar damage that makes me believe this is an inherent problem that the dealer should have fixed when the car was still under warranty.

The frame and every metal component on the underneath of the car including the frame rusts terribly.the rest is completely corroding away and breaking off.even th metal strap holding my gas tank on is completely rusted and if i put n pressure it chips away.i didn't notice this until i went to have my exhaust done and was able to look under the car.

I purchased a 2005 toyota scion tc on may of 2005, which currently has aprox 35,400 miles. The problem i am having relates to the front suspension. When ever i pass over rough surfaces there is a distinct metallic rattling sound originating from the suspension area . I have taken the car in to the hollywood, ca toyota dealership twice to have this problem addressed, but as of yet it has not been resolved. After searching the internet for similar problems other owners of the same car might be experiencing, i discovered numerous complaints describing the exact defect my car has. Attached are a few of the websites where i discovered other person's experiences. Http://social-tc-club.com/index.php?showtopic=4609&mode=threaded&pid=77857 , http://www.clubsciontc.com/forum_thread_13219-suspension-noise--uh-oh-.html. My car is stock. Please investigate this pervasive problem before someone gets hurt in an accident due to unstable front end control.

The sunroof deflector broke while driving with the sunroof open with no apparent reason, toyota inspected and replaced the broken deflector and exactly six days later while driving in the rain the deflector shattered again on i-20 traveling at around 65mph, just above the speed traveled when the first incident occurred

Glass roof shattered unprovoked

After just four months the paint is chipping, flaking, scratching really bad.

While driving on the interstate 8/5/17, at approx. 70-75 mph, the rear moon roof exploded in my daughters car! there was a loud explosion like the car had been shot at.she was able to keep control of the car and then after looking around at all the side windows, the passenger noticed that the moon roof had exploded.after pulling over they removed as much loose glass as possible so it would not to blow off and cause damage to others or an accident.the glass was blown outward and looked like a volcano that had erupted.she did not take any pictures at the time due to shock and disbelief.parents took photos once car was back in st. Louis in their garage. She had to drive from indianapolis to st. Louis with the car dropping pieces of glass onto and into the car .also fearful the other roof might explode.after speaking with toyota they said it happens sometimes.heat, pressure build up, or rocks can cause it.heat could not have been a factor as the temps that day were approx. 68 to low 70's.the liner covering the moon roof was open.this situation could have been so much worse.an explosion like that at 70+ mph could have caused a wrecknot to mention injuries.

My daughter was driving home from indiana on the interstate when her moon roof over the back seat blew up.she was traveling at around 72 mph when she heard an explosion.thank god there were no cars immediately to her side as she swerved but managed to keep control of the car.she had to continue from indianapolis to st. Louis with the fear of the sunroof doing the same.this could have caused an accident or worse.thank god nobody was injured other than some cuts from pulling out large chunks of glass that she was afraid would blow off and hit other cars.when i asked toyota about it they just said " it's been known to happen".i showed them the photos and they said that pressure can build up to cause this to happen or sometimes heat.the temp was only around 68- low 70's.if they know this can happen then maybe these should not be allowed.

I just bought a scion tc a month ago and was surprised by the paint dings caused by rocks.this in itself is not a surprise, but there is only one layer of paint between the top of the car and the primer.i have called scion support and have filed a complaint with them too.the dealership was of no help saying the rock dings are normal (i know that) and didn't mention anything of the quality of the paint, defect in the paint, or defect in the painting process.any type of help would be appreciated to actually see if this is a problem.

All windows seals ( rubber ) are discolored ... I had my car 7 years and every year the rubber around the front windshield sideand back windows are all rotten.. Trying to see if toyota can replace all frames.. Thanks

Moonroof deflector shattered with a pop sound at speeds 55 with all windows closed. Later inspection that it was cracked around all the edges about 1/2 ~ 1 inches into the center.

I purchased a silver scion tc in late july of this year, 2004.i noticed after less than two months of driving on regular suburban roads that there were several large chips on the front of my hood.since july, more and more chips have formed and begun to peel and get larger.even the bumper has chipped badly and there are several chips that actually stick out of the paint- as if they're bubbling.after waiting 2 months to see the "scion" district manager, he blew me off after 3 minutes of being rude and barely bothering to look closely at my chips.i believe there is a defect in the paint and that there are others that are having this problem with the scion brand.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion. The contact stated as she started the vehicleit accelerated and would not stop as she depressed the brakes the vehicle finally stopped. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic.after a diagnostic test they stated that they could not repair the failure and the vehicle should go to the toyota dealer for repair. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer and after running a diagnostic test it showed that the actuator needed to be replaced. The repair cost was $1,000 and the contact wants a reimbursement since her model should be recalled but it doesnot appear on the recall list. The toyota manufacturer could not be reached and this has been going on for over a month. The failure mileage was 47,574.

Occasionally while stopped at red light, my engine will rev unexpectedly without my me touching the gas pedal, this has caused my car to jerk forward on several occasions and has almost made me hit the car in front of me and worst it has forced me into the middle of intersections.

Took foot off gas to slow down when approaching curve. Raked to slow down when entering curve and vehicle failed to slow...fully engaged brake and vehicle failed to stop and kept accelerating. This resulted in the vehicle crashing into an embankment which caused major damage to the vehicle. This is is brand new scion tc purchased 09/01/04.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when the engine rpm's increased excessively with an unexpected acceleration. When the brake pedal was engaged there was a reduction in the speed. The contact was able to continue driving normally. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 110,000. The current mileage was 126,000.

The contact owns a 2005 scion tc. While driving approximately 35 miles per hour the accelerator pedal stuck. The contact put the vehicle in neutral and it failed to stop. The contact stated there was a crash and 3 individuals were injured. A police report was filed. The contact received a $220 citation for failure to control speed. The failure and current miles were not available. The vin was not available.

I was driving on the highway at about 45mph when i heard a loud explosion. I immediately pulled over thinking a tire had blown and found that the moonroof glass had shattered. The glass was bowed upward in the center indicating it had broken due to stress. The windshield and the wind deflector did not break at all nor receive any damage. The glass was not impacted by any foreign object.

Sunvisor on driver and passenger side of vehicle are detached from inside shaft and now they just dont go up. Not functioning properly.

While driving at approximately 25 mph, the moonroof on my 2005 toyota scion tc burst and shattered.

Rock chips, rusting spots, only had the vehicle for 5 months.

I was driving up i-25, when the vehicle in front of me kicked up a rock. The rock hit the top of the sunroof, shattering it into pieces. A lot of sharp glass landed on myself the driver and in the passenger seat. The vehicles behind me were showered in glass. To repair this i had to purchase a costly new sunroof panel and i am going to have it clear brand so that if it happens again it does not injure any one. I received cuts from the broken glass falling on to me.

2005 scion tc,sun roofexplodedwhile drivingat i-85 freeway. All windows and sunroof were closed when it happened. Theshattered sunroofhave a huge hole in middle front section of the sunroof and shatteredall four sides. On daily driving, i noticedthat thecarstructure flex too much, enough to produce popping sound.toyota dealerinitial assessmentis not part ofwarrantyor recall as of this date 11/05/2010.

I was driving back from work going around 60 mph on the highway, and heard loud bang like a gunshot.first i thought that one of my tires has hit on something and exploded but then i felt something falling from the roof and i managed to pull over right away.when i got out of the car i saw my moon roof shattered in pieces.there wasn't any debrief on the road or any small rocks that could've hit the roof and shattered it. The bang was very loud and very disturbing and i hope this can be investigated and prevented in the future.

The contact owns a 2005 scion tc. While driving approximately 65 mph, a booming sound was heard outside the vehicle. After stopping the vehicle, the driver discovered that the glass air defector had shattered. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 05v483000 (visibility) in november of 2005 to prevent the failure from occurring. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 113,000.

When i returned to my car that had been parked for approximately three hours, i found that the deflector was raised and the sunroof was entirely shattered.the "legs" of the deflector appeared to have broken through the glass, as the sunroof was severely cracked and broken along each of its four edges.i had not used the sunroof prior to parking my car that morning.upon reading similar complaints, i do recall also having heard an extremely loud pop while driving, but the sunroof did not shatter until some time after while the car was parked.

The rear window does not have a wiper.when it rains it is very difficult to see out the rear window.i have had to pull over during hard downpours because vision behind me was at 0.

Moonroof deflector shattered at highway speeds.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the sun roof glass exploded and shattered. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,500.

Every time i drive my car the sunroof rattles and it sounds as if there is shattered glass in there. I looked and tried to clean it all out but i never found any broken glass. But when ever i go over the smallest bump it sounds like the whole sunroof is going to shatter. I have read other reports of this happening and i think there might be a problem with the glass.

I was driving my 2005 scion tc on the freeway with the sunroof closed.i heard a loud breaking sound and saw glass fly onto the freeway from my car.i pulled off the freeway and noticed that the glass from the deflector of the sunroof had shattered.the freeway was empty and nothing, not even a rock, had hit my car.i am not sure how it happened- but now i see lots of reports of this happening.i am just lucky that this happened when my sunroof was closed.i was also informed by toyota that this would cost me $900 to fix.they were not going to cover it.i plan to fight this as it is supposed to be designed to perform under normal operating conditions.it sounds like faulty installation to me.

While driving my 2005 scion tc on the interstate highway, i heard a loud pop.after the pop i heard glass shattering and flying off the top of the car.the only thing protecting me from shattering glass was the sun shade.yet, almost immediately glass started coming through the vent holes on the sun shade and falling down on my head and flying in from the sides.when i stopped to look at what had happened, it appeared that the top sun roof had exploded.nothing had hit the car from the outside that i was aware of.i know that i would have seen it or heard something hit the car, not the loud pop that sounded like an explosion.i looked on your site and was able to see that other owners of scions have experienced this same problem.i am waiting on toyota to determine how this will be fixed and if they will cover it.i will file a claim against them if they do not, as i think this should be a warranty issue or a safety issue with the dealer.i noticed on one complaint that the individual was forced to pay $900. For the repair themselves.phone interview confirmed that it was the sun/moon roof that shattered.

While driving my 2005 scion tc i heard a loud pop and the back moon roof had cracked.it was the same type of noise i heard when my front deflector shattered.the moon roof did not cave in when it first happened it was just spider web cracked throughout.but on the way to the dealership part of the middle ended up caving in.the dealership said because the glass was angled up it was like something from inside or pressure caused it.if something had fallen on it the glass would have been angled downwards.it was replaced but only after much questioning because this was the second time it had happened and supposedly "i have been the only one to have had these problems".i am currently waiting on parts to come in that they broke while repairing the moon roof.

Dt:2005, toyota, scion tc,vehicle's sun roof (not the wind deflector) exploded. There was no apparent cause for this to happen.glass shattered all over consumer and the freeway. Consumer stated that nothing hit the sunroof for it to shatter, but if even a small item could cause that explosive type of damage, it should be different glass. Sunroof is repaired but car paint is scratched everywhere and consumer still find bits of glass in vehicle. The sunroof was closed at the time.phone interview (may 19, 2006): dealer representative confirmed that it was the sun/moon roof that shattered.

While driving with the sun roof open, the front deflector of the assembly shattered, spraying pieces of broken glass into the passenger compartment, causing me to lose control of the vehicle asi was hit in the face and head by glass.i was able to maintain control of the car as a piece of glass hit my sunglass lens, saving me from a possible eye injury. The interior of the car was littered with sharp, jagged pieces of glass and thankfully i was alone in the vehicle, saving a passenger from possible injury.i have yet to contact a dealer or scion but will do so after the weekend.i am aware of other reports and complaints with regard to the same thing happing to others.scion obviously engineered a fragile piece of glass designed to stand nearly perpendicular to the road with the vehicle in motion and sun roof open. Ihave recently noticed a popping sound coming from the roof indicating to me some sort of stress in the structure.while not injured during the incident, i did get cut cleaning the sharp glass from the interior of the car.the vehicle i am reporting is a 2005 scin tc.i might also note that the 888 phone number listed on this page is not operable.

I was driving my scion tc in a normal fashion on the interstate when my glass sunroof shattered unexpectedly.my insurance is covering the cost, the dealer is waiting for the check to order the parts.previously my glass wind deflector has shattered also.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving between 55-70 mph the sunroof shattered.the sunroof was closed at the time of the incident. The contact is unaware of an object hitting the sunroof.the vehicle is at the dealership and they are unable to determine the cause of the failure.email reply on may 19, 2006 shows (pictures) that it was the sun/moon roof (not the wind deflector) that shattered.

I pulled into my drive way parked the car left it running sunroof was open front windows were down. Ran inside to grab something hear a glass explosion ran back out to find my sunroof spider cracked out and the edges gone. Lady that was walking her dog said the sunroof just exploded. Theres no holes nothing just cracks and glass all around the car and inside the car. I have pictures to.email reply on may 18, 2006 shows (pictures) that it was the sun/moon roof (not the wind deflector) that was shattered.

I was driving along government st, the streets downtown needs major repairs. But i didn't hit a bump in the road or nothing to cause my glass to break.i didn't even hear anything hit my glass i had the sunroof open with my little brother and dog in the car when glass begin to fall on us.

While driving with the sun roof open the glass deflector broke covering the consumer in glass. The consumer was traveling at 55 mph.the glass didn't appear to be safety glass because it broke into large sharp pieces.the consumer's eye was scratched by a piece of glass.consumer want the manufacturer to investigate this problem and change the way this reflector is constructed for the safety of all owners.

Driving down the highway at ~65 mph in 2005 scion tc with sunroof open and without warning the front air deflector shield shattered throwing glass into the passenger compartment. No other traffic was around that could have caused a thrown stone or anything else.

Driving on a sunny day without a car around, sunroof shattered and covered the interior with glass.the sunroof windshield was previously fixed as part of the recall.both the sunroof and rails were destroyed.toyota did not pay for repair.

Sunroof makes a continuous rattling noise suggesting that it is not sitting in it's allocated space properly. This noise can be heard while the sunroof is open and especially while it is closed.this happens every day.

Moonroof has shattered for second time. Dealer/toyota would not replace per warranty. Vehicle was brought in for recall approx. June 2006. There were no problems prior and glass was fine before recall. Moonroof has shattered twice since recall with no noticeable impact. Recall fix/material is unsafe as shattering glass may injure driver and or passenger.

I was driving on an interstate highway at approximately 60 mph with all the windows closed, including the sunroof.both the sunroofhad the shades pulled as well.the outside temperature was about 85 degrees, and the a/c was running in the car.suddenly, i heard an extremely loud pop which sounded like a gun shot.seconds later, i heard bits of glass bouncing down the back of the car.i opened the shade of thesun oof only slightly enough to see that the entire sun roofshattered and as i drove, chunks of the glass were flying off the car.when i was able to pull off and assess the window it almost appeared as if it had been hit from the inside.the glass around the entire portion of the window was broken and pulling away from the sides and it puckered up toward the center of the window.this was an extremely distracting incident, and potentially dangerous.i was lucky to have the shades pulled so that the glass did not fall into the car.we had previously taken the carto dealerto have the deflector shield treated because of the recall.

I have a 2005 scion tc, last monday i arrived home and after five minutes while i was by the car i heard a crack and when i look at the car i saw that the back moonroof cracked without any reason.the way it cracked it is very weird because it cracked all the way around and after that over the night it start courving upward and it start feling in to pieces.

Went out to car in the morning and the sun/moon roof deflector was shattered.

The wind deflector for my sunroof on my 2006 scion tc was shattered on sept 22, 20061) i was driving with my sunroof open on the street (no freeway). I closed the roof and went into work. At lunch time i made several stops (never opening the sunroof) and after coming back from the last store, i found the wind deflector shattered. I never heard anything hit my car. I did have the recall laminate in place but therewas glass shards and pieces from the edges and the bottom. Both dealers i went to cannot tell how the damage happened since the whole thing is shattered. There is no sign of a rock hitting it.2) i cannot open sunroof or window for fear more glass will break off into my car.3) i have gone to 2 dealerships (toyota) and both told me to that my insurance will have to pay for the damage. Part has to be ordered through deal only. The first dealer was not helpful and even told me any glass place could replace which turned out to not be true. I am in the process of getting my insurance to pay for repair so i am still driving around with shattered glass (at least the 2nd dealer taped it so i don't lose a lot more glass).

I was cruising in my 2005 scion tc at approximately 40 mph on a smooth road with the moon roof closed.air temperature was in the high 90s and, as i had been driving about an hour, the interior had been cooled by the a/c.there was no traffic within sight either ahead or behind me and no trees, overpass, etc., above.i heard a loud gunshot-sounding "bang" and found, when i pulled over, that the glass of the front wind deflector of the moonroof had shattered.there was no evidence of any object impacting the glass.because the moonroof had been closed, glass particles did not enter the passenger compartment.the moonroof wind deflector glass was replaced by my local authorized dealer under warranty (after i called their attention to similar failures of other vehicles); the fragments of the old glass were removed and disposed of by the dealer.subsequent to that, a "safety recall notice" (#ssc 50s) was received from the manufacturer and a "protective laminate" was applied to prevent glass fragments from entering the passenger compartment in the event a recurrence of the failure is experienced when the moonroof is in the open position.contrary to this manufacturer's recall notice, i was not driving with the moonroof open, i was not driving at "highway speeds" and the glass was not impacted by road debris.i feel there is a flaw in the manufacturing process of the glass used in the tc's moonroof.

Sun-roof shattered while driving on tollway! this was possibly due to debris that may have hit it from the road.went for recall on wind-breaker, but this issue hasn't been resolved with the sunroof!this is clearly a manufacturer defect and another source for a liability for toyota.

I was driving down the highway at approx 70 mph.i had the sun roof opened.while driving i heard a loud crack and glass came pouring in from the sunroof opening.i went straight to the dealership by my house.the front panel that angles up was broken all around the entire piece of glass.they said they could not see a point of impact where something may have hit.he said he could still hear it cracking as we were standing there talking.he said since there was no point of impact it should be covered under warranty. (i've only had the car a month.)i am currently awaiting for the piece to come in.this has happened at least one other time that i've heard of from a scion web site.i can only imagine what could have happened if i hadn't ducked down when i heard the crack.even with ducking down i had glass down the front of my shirt, the back of my shirt and in between my back the the seat of the car.

Dt: contact owns a 2005 toyota scion tc.the contact stated that whilevehicle was being warmed up on january 23, 2005 the wind deflector for the sun roof broke. As he was getting something from the vehicle and shut the door the deflector broke.the contact stated until he saw the investigation article he thought the breakage was due to the temperature or some other type of normal condition.the local service dealer referred the contact to a local glass shop to have the problem repaired.there is an open investigation of this problem, , the nhtsa investigationea05013.the consumer had the wind deflector repaired.the consumercontacted the manufacturer.

Looping to the ramp around 40 mph entering freeway, sunroof shattered due to the side metal frame that was attached/glued to the glass gave in and the sunroof was not even opened.brought to dealership, took pictures of the shattered sunroof and sent to manufacturer.next day, toyota said it was a road hazard.i told them how could that be if the side metal frame gave in and they know there was no evidence of any materials or rock that hits the sunroof.

June 14, 2006.was driving on the highway at around 65 mph with no other cars in front of meor to the side of me.suddenly, without warning, the power moonroof of the car shattered, with a large portion of the glass entering the passenger cabin and striking me (the driver).besides minor scratches and bruises from the falling glass and sunroof assembly, i did not suffer any injury.drove immediately to the dealer, who provided me with a rental car while my car was being repaired.upon picking up the car 4 days later, i was told that besides the glass, the entire sunroof assembly had to be replaced.was also told that they could not find the cause of the failure.pictures of the damage would be available upon request, if needed.

I was driving on the highway 5:30 pm on dec 7.the rear moon roof of my 2005 scion tc shattered with a loud "bang"while i was driving.the glass shattered uniformly through out the entire window.i stopped and inspected the glass and did not find any noticeable impact chips or points.the glass fell in to the passenger area over the following several days.(photos were taken prior falling)

Pits or cracks in windshield.vehicle is a scion xb, but there isn't an option for that car.

While driving 65 mph a small pebble hit the windshield and caused it to shatter.

A youngster weighing 140 lbs. Leaned on the windshield and it shattered. It has been 5 days, and when contacting manufacturer's headquarters, they refused to replace a windshield for free on the basis that they could not confirm it was defective after the fact! it bothers me to think that a 'perfectly good, safe' windshield can be shattered by merely 'leaning' on it! what will happen if i crash? or if a palm tree branch falls on it? i guess i will have to die or get injured to find out!

The tires on the scion have been replaced every 4 to 8 months. Toyota said its not their problem. I spoke to many mechanics and they do not know why the tires are breaking, they believe its the car design and the low profile tires. I do not speed and avoid pot holes. This is a major safety hazard.

Factory wheel cracked after very minor hit on a pothole.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 40 mph as the vehicle was getting onto an exit, while applying the brake to slow down; the car fishtailed and hit a guardrail.the vehicle was totaled as a result of the extensive front end damage.there were no problems noted with the vehicle prior to the accident and there were no lights illuminated on the dash.there was a police report filed.the police report and the insurance company inspected the vehicle and determined the wheel and hub detached causing the accident.updated 6/30/2006 -
