I bought my saturn in may of 1999, at 20,000 miles.it was previously a lease vehicle.at 73,000 miles, the engine started to burn over 2.5 quarts of oil every 3000 miles.the car was under warranty and the engine was rebuilt.at approximately 150,000 miles the engine started burning again.i have to have my oil changed every 1500 to 2000 miles now. I have been told, by multiple mechanics, that this is a common problem with the saturn sc2s.i've also had the ignition replaced.i started having problems with starting it up at about 45,000 miles.every time i started it up, it would take a while to turn over, until one morning when i tried to go to work, it wouldn't start up at all.i have also been through 3 alternators and three batteries. I have taken good care of my car and have never had these problems with cars i have had prior, that have been twice as old, and almost double the mileage.of course, those cars were not gm products.i think i will go back to my pervious brand.

While driving our saturn sc2 at approximately 30mph we heard a loud explosion and the vehicle stopped moving.my husband and i exited the vehicle to see what the problem was.the only sign at that time that something was wrong with the vehicle was that there was fluid leaking from underneath the car.we had the vehicle brought back to the house to see what was wrong.my husband looked underneath the car and found a large hole in the rear of the transmission.we then called saturn service and asked that the vehicle be towed.when the vehicle was looked at by a member of the saturn service team of saturn of greenfield, wisconsin they said they had only seen this problem one other time and that they would have to call in a specialist.when i contactedthem on the morning of saturday nov. 21, 1998, they said they would not be able to pay for the repair.the reason bieng that we had to have caused it.their explanation is that this type of problem only occurs if you get stuck in snow or mud and quickly shift your car from drive to reverse several times causing the transmission to blow.however on the date of this transmission failure there was no rain to cause mud and no snow. On the date of nov.19, we were toldthat if we had been going at a higher rate of speed we could have lost control of the car therefore possibly causing an accident and that we were lucky that did not happen.this brings on a question in my mind if we could have been going at a higher rate of speed how could this only be caused by being stuck in snow or mud and shifting from reverse to drive quickly several times?i would also like to note that we had previously had our vehicle in to saturn of greenfield on nov. 3, 1998 for an oil change and a noise in the engine.when the car was looked at they said that the motor mounts had collapsed and needed to be replaced.i feel that this was a minor remedy to keep from repairing a major problem.we have been advised by a lawyer to take pictu

We bought a used saturn 2 years ago from a dealership.sincethe day we got the car home wehad transmission problems. Mainly when my wife would drive it to get our small childrento day care, and she would go to work. When the transmission warmedup it gave her a hard time getting it into gear. Countless times of sitting in the middle of the intersection waiting to turn thelightturnedred and the opposite traffic gotgreen and startedheading toward her honking, she was franticly trying to get the car into gear. Then she would have no choice but to have to injure her hand to slam it into gear to get out of the way as my little oneswere crying in the back and she was shaking and upset. We have had vehiclein repairshops countless of times complaining of it, but the extended warranty refused to repair the problem because it was still drivable, according to them. Now as my wife drove our kids to the baby sitters so she could go to work the transmissionsnapped. About 1 week ago found outthe extended warranty expired, and they refused to help. They said we shouldhave fileda report of the problem before it expired,. We explained that we did somany times andthey were denied. We have proof from dealerships, but they refused to let us fax the proof.

Manual transmission shift linkage broke while driving. The shifter got into the linkage and then broke off. Consumer contacted the dealer, and purchased a new shifting linkage and had the defect repaired by himself.

When driving at 50 mph and upon making a normal stop brake pedal traveled to the floorboard, causing extended stopping distance, and resulting in vehicle running into a field over a railroad.vehicle was totaled.*ml

While driving about 40 mph onhighway and upon depressingbrake pedalpedal went straight to floorboard, causing extended stopping distance , and resulting invehicle veering into another lane. Consumer hadvehicle towed todealer.

While driving with cruise control activated the vehicle was braking and the vehicle accelerated up to 80 mph.the braking system was inoperative, causing a frontal accident with the barriers in which the driver's and passenger's airbags did not deploy, failing to protect the occupants in this accident.

At 21,000 miles the brakes started to pulsate.the dealer replaced the warped rotors and scored pads.at 42, 000 miles the same thing occurred however the dealer would only pay half of the cost.they replaced the rotors and said the pads were fine.now at 51,000 miles the brakes are again beginning to pulsate

Disc brake system failed, rotors warped.

I took my saturn in for routine maintenence and requested they check my brakes.upon inspection they found both front rotors with many cracks.the bearings nor spindle were replaced, and brakes were fine.i suspect manufacture defect.they said possibly i could have been on long trip which would heat up rotors and driven thru puddle of water which could have cause steel rotors to crack.luckily i caught this in time before an accident could have occurred.

Front rotors went out. Dealer had to replacerotors and brake pads per consumer's cost. Dealer has advised consumer thatrotors were defective.this problemcould havecaused an automobile accident.

Trunk latch failed.

Not for sure if original tires. Approximately 6/32" oftread on the tires. They are rated traction "a". On wet roads they are extremely slippery. This complaint comes from experience after the street has washed off the top oil. What would be considered a "mild" stop, the tires will break loose and slide. On curves, the rear wheels will slide in the direction of the cyntriphical force. Upon acceleration from a stop sign in wet weather, the front wheels will spin with out much accelleration. This condition has been present with the car since it was purchased used in 1998. It appeares the "a" rating for traction in wet weather, has been misrepresented. I have three other vehicles in the household which i typically use "b" rated traction tires of another brand, and never have these problems. I have not replaced them, but will wait untill comments from this complaint. (tiresize: p195/60r15)( dot number:tire size: p195/60r15 )
