The contact owns a 1995 saab 900s convertible. The contact stated that while sitting at a traffic stop when she noticed fumes coming from the under the hood. Minutes later, the air bags suddenly deployed inadvertently and without warning.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 117,000.

I was driving my saab 900 convertible and while driving down the road the passanger airbag deployed. I immediatly pulled over and as i was checking to find out what the noise was the driver's side airbag deployed.the airbag broke my windshield and immediatly after they deployed the srs light came on and the warning light indicator came on.i will be taking the car to have it inspected by a certified saab repair shop.the mechanic is guessing at this point that the computer system failed causing the spontaneous deployment.had i have been driving on a busy road or a highway this could have potentially been an accident causing incident.fortunatly for me and others traveling this was not the case.

While driving 10 mph the vehicles passengers air bag deployed inadvertently.the driver exited the vehicle to let the smoke clear.when the consumer got back into the vehicle and drove about 40 yards the drivers air bag deployed.the seatbelts also locked . *nlm

While driving the vehicle dash lights are continuously illuminated. Took vehicle to dealer, and nothing was remedied. Main computer may be the reason for the malfunction.also, brakes are failing and airbags do not work.*jg

Saab refuses to follow up on a confirmed (media-published) recall announced in nov 2002 (3 months ago) concerning random airbag deployment.saab corporate refuses to specify vins or give any planned resolution, and the saab dealers confirm that my car is likely to be affected, but no one will take any action yet, and saab is dragging their feet!isn't their a time limit for them to start this recall?how do we escalate this situation, pls?

The contact owns a 1995 saab 900 convertible.while the contact was sitting in the vehicle with the engine running, the passenger side air bag suddenly deployed.there were no warnings prior to the failure.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 80,000.

As i was driving the car, a strange odor could be smelled in the car.i opened the driver's side window to determine if the odor was coming from outside or inside the car.as i realized the odor was coming from inside the car, the bottom two or three inches of the windshield began to fog up.iimmediately turned off the main street to park the car and turn the engine off.just after i turned the corner, the passenger side air bag exploded.iimmediately stopped the car, turned off the engine, and got out of the car.when the air bag exploded it ripped apart the top of the passenger side of the dashboard, it shattered the passenger side of the windshield, and it filled the car with fumes (eventhough the driver's side window was still all the way down).the explosion occured at approximately 7:30 p.m. On friday, september 8, 2000.the airbag exploded after the car had been driven approximately 3/4 of a mile.because it was friday evening, i had the car towed home.carter saab was contacted on monday and the car was towed to the dealership on tuesday.the car has very few miles on it and has never been in an accident.there has never been any damage to the car.all servicing to this car has been performed by carter saab, an authorized dealership and repair shop.all manufacturer's service and warranty work was performed by carter.all manufacturer's recall work was performed by carter. When i started the car the srs warning light appeared on the dashboard.before driving the car, i read the section concerning the air bag warning light in the owner's manual.the manual contains the instructions that the driver is to take the car to the nearest dealer immediately because the air bar may not activate in case of a collision.

Timing belt on 1995 saab broke destroying the engine.there was a coolant leak, the sun visor fell off, the battery went dead, the molding was peeling, the srs lights flashed, there was an air valve problem, center muffler rotted and leaked, the water pump leaked, the driver's side turn signal was inoperative, the parking lamp had gone out, there was no heat, no air and no freon in the system, the remote was inoperative, there was a slow leak in the system, the rear muffler bracket had broken, the cd player was inoperative, the exhaust hanger had broken, the water tray gasket leaked, there was a battery remote problem, there was a parasitic current draw, the glove box would not open and the engine completely destroyed.the exhaust system, engine belts, main drive belt, muffler, water pump, flex pipe, compressor, tires, front pads and rotors, valve, air valve, head light, spark plugs, engine filters, de ice switch, evaporator core, brake light, battery, and spark plugs were all replaced.*sc

1995 saab 900 se stalls upon cold start and also cuts off (stalls) while driving. Vehicle is totally tuned and all throttle, fuel injectors are clean etc.i contacted dealer and saab web-site to inquire about recall 95v066000 but i was told this was not applicable to my vehicle.

Recall 95v066000 concerning electronic control unit. Due to the vin this vehicle was not eligible for recall repairs.however, based on the symptoms in the description of the defect this vehicle was having the same problems as mentioned in the recall.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who told consumer that because the recall information did not appear on the saab web page they will not assist the consumer.

We were driving on i-680, here in omaha, when we suddenly lost power.everything went dark for a second and then started up again.a few seconds later it did it again, this time we did not regain power and had to pull off the road.the odd thing is that, although we hadno ability to accelerate, no lights and seemingly no power at all, we still luckily had power steering so we were able to pull of the interstate safely.i shut the ignition off and re-started the vehicle.we were not far from home and we did not have further instances like this until we got there.we were both very scared but glad that the power loss did not cause an accident.

While driving, consumer commented that the digital indicator panel felt hot, consumer parked vehicle while at dinner, then returned, the power assist brakes failed and then the coolant low light, headlamp out and washer low indicators illuminated, the next morning consumer raised the hood and discovered a fire had occurred, the upper and lower radiator hoses had melted, the electrical wiring below the hoses were bare copper, the battery, power steering reservoir, plastic engine cover, battery cables, vacuum hoses and cooling fins on the electrical cooling motor had all melted, the hood insulation was also damaged, there was additional fire damage under the plastic engine cover, it is uncertain as to what caused this fire.

Vehicle's electrical systemmalfunctoned when trying to open the doors, they lock up by themselves, takes 5-6 times before being able to get out.

On several occasions while driving, the vehicle will shut off, after a few minutes the vehicle can be restarted, the ignition was replaced because of a short, but soon after the problems started again.nlm

Since leasing the vehicle (may, 1995) there has been a number of electrical problems. The batterey has gone dead 3 times, dimming and flickering of headlights and interior lights have failed; taken to dealer many times, cannot state the problem.

Original battery went bad after 3 years replaced in 2/13/99 saab on october 12 battery is bad

The alternator froze, which caused the timing belt to break.

7/18/99 while backing car out of parking spot, it turned itself off.restarted after 15 minutes. Later same day, car turned itself off while driving 25mph. I restarted it after 5 minutes. Next day while driving 85 mph in fast lane on i-15 north of san diego it turned itself off again. Took car into saab of san diego who eventually replicated the problem and replaced the ignition on july 20, 1999. On march 9, 2001 while driving 20 mph, the car turned it self off.on march 12, 2001 while driving 70 mph on i-52 in san diego, the car turned itself off but as i was maneuvering off the road, it restarted itself. Took car into saab of san diego whose mechanic drove the car for 10 days.the problem would not repeat so they declared that they could not fix anything, even though the exact same thing happened in 1999 and 2001. I have a case file # with saab usa - 197868 and have written a lengthy letter describing these events.i am copying nhtsa as well.thank you.

Computer replaced.

Dt: the consumer stated this vehicle is having the same problems as mentioned in recall 95v066000 concerningignition module failure.consumer's vehicle was having problems after starting up. The motor was idling high and the rpms were all over the place. Had this problem for about 3 weeks. The car has not been to the dealer for this problem. The owner did stop by and saw if her car was included in the recall, and it was not.wanted to wait to and see if nhtsa or sabb expanded the recall before she hadit checked.

While driving the vehicle dash lights are continuously illuminated. Took vehicle to dealer, and nothing was remedied. Main computer may be the reason for the malfunction.also, brakes are failing and airbags do not work.*jg

Electronic control module failed, causing vehicle to accelerate when starting.*skd

Clutch became inoperable while consumer was driving.also, there was a small compartment fire. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Started automobile and went 2 car lengths and saw smoke coming from under hood. Shut engine down and opened hood. Cause of smoke was a cable that was on fire. Not hugh, but like bic lighter flames. About 3 to 5. Blew out fire. Went into office got some bottled water. Came back. Restarted auto. Got out and looked at engine. Fire again. Put out with water. Nothing on electronic infor display indicated fire. Called dealer and mechanic advised to have car towed in, which i did. At first saab rep did not even wish to pay for cause of problem, the electical harness. Finally did, but this is a fire. I have drove cars for the past 40 years. They (saab) should not take a fire lightly. I think they should recall the car and investigate why it caught on fire.they elected easy way out. They should provide me with a new replacement and have their engineers go through to find out cause and make remedies. Why does it take a loss of life to get action? my dealership people mentioned that this is the 4th electrical harness that has needed replacing and this in only one dealer. I know this is the first fire that the dealership has seen. Do the public a service and take saab to task. As my new web page states, a fire should be taken seriously. I can only think you will agree.

While driving, the fan belt broke, which caused the engine to seize. This was the third failure under 50,000 miles.ph

Replaced radiator.

Consumer was driving and timing chain snapped causing the immediate loss of power and control of vehicle.contacted saab usa at 1-800-955-9007 and spoke with supervisor lemont. Consumer was informed that saab does not cover costs involved in replacement of timing chain but only for the belt at very specific mileage points as to the history of widespread breakage and safety problems and subsequent costly damage to engines.

The engine cut off while the vehicle was stopping, which was caused by timing belt failing.please provide more details. Ts

Driving @ 40mph lost all power in car - according to mechanic, timing belt jumped off (didn't break) . Engine valves were destroyed.i have found some information (via internet) that this has happened frequently in the 95 v6 models, yet saab claims no safety recall and will not tell me if it falls under the "service campaign" in spring of '95 - they told me to call a saab dealer!any help in determining if i have an recourse would be greatly appreciated. This car had only 30k miles on it!

The engine on vehicle failed and is now rendered useless.consumer was later informed that this was a known fault with these vehicles and it could have been corrected.the dealer however, did not inform consumer of the defect with the engine in these vehicles.*jg

Daytime running lights failed.

Brakes light portions of the taillight melt and deform. While the optics of the taillight lens is degraded there is also internal deformation that makes it impossible to remove and replace the bulb, when it burn out.the deformation of the lens causes it to be nearer to the heat of the bulb causing continued deformation.ultimately the lens will contact the bulb and probably cause it to break.when the bulb burns out or break the entire taillight assembly will have to be replaced. All due to design flaw that manifests itself whenever the brake lights are on for an extended period of time.

Daytime running lights operate at full illumination, causing bulbs to burn out excessively.

I am contacting you regarding saab cars usa inability to notify me of a timing belt recall relating to certain pulleys.pursuant to a conversation with mr. Grant hessman of saab cars usa (saab complaint # 1-57069705), i was notified that saab will not pay for the part now that it has been brought to my attention by the dealer since my car has gone over the saab imposed mileage limit. It is my intention to determine why saab will not pay for this problem since it is their engineering problem and their inability to notify me of this problem.the car was purchased brand new and i have taken it to authorized saab dealers for maintenance since i purchased the car, which was confirmed by mr. Hessman.it is disturbing that saab can view recent maintenance information yet claim they don't have access to my mailing address that has been in effect for 6 years.it is this reason they claim that i did not receive the recall notification.it would also be helpful to understand why saab contacts me via my mailing address for sales and service material yet can't for recall information.

While traveling on the highway and without prior warning there is vibration coming from underneathvehicle.shift lever light appeared on the dash panel, and the vehicle shut off.dealership is aware ofproblem.

Unexpected gear shift from reverse prior to recall (95v-0687).

Transmission pops out of gear when stick shift is lightly touched.

Problem with gear shifter.

Vehicle vibrates upon starting ignition.

Stopped car at gas station, placed shifter in reverse position (supposed to be necessary in order to remove key), applied parking brake, took key out of lock, got out of car to pump gas.as i walked around the car to get to the gas pump, the car began to roll forward with my 6 yr old child in the back seat.i ran after the car and was able to open the door, jump in, and stop it, before it hit a truck which was parked at the gas station.the car is designed so that the shifter must be in reverse in order to remove the key.however, occasionally the key can be removed when the shifter is in the reverse position but the reverse gear is not engaged.this problem has been "adjusted" twice.it continues to recur.it is a safety issue which should be fixed or disabled.the problem was compounded by the fact that the parking brake did not keep the car from rolling.

Rear axle failed.

Axle bearing house cracked, causing rear noise.

Clutch failed catastrophically late at night while driving on a rural road. The problem was diagnosed as a manufacturing defect by a saab mechanic.

I experienced a catastrophic manual transmission failure at 38,324 miles.the cause was a seized bearing/bushing that subsequently caused the clutch cable to break when i attempted to shift gears (i was accelerating away from a stoplight on nj state highway 46e at time of failure).repair cost was ~$1k, but upon complaining, the dealership provided the parts (goodwill) and i paid the labor:$600 out-of-pocket.their receipt copy indicated that the parts were being reported as a warranty repair.

The vehicle could be in the reverse position, and the key will be out of the ignition which may cause a roll away.alsowhen in reverse, the vehicle seems to be in neutral just as the recall 95v068000 indicates.mfr stated that this vehicle is not included in the recall, but experienced the same problem.

The contact owns a 1995 saab 900.the contact stated that when the reverse gear is engaged, the transmission shifts out of gear.the contact took the vehicle to the repair shop to have the gear repaired, but the mechanic was unable to remedy the failure.the contact found recall # 95v068000 (power train:manual transmission).the manufacturer stated that his vin is not covered by the recall and they could not help.the contact is experiencing the same failure as noted in the recall.the current and failure mileages were 151,000.the consumer stated received a ticket and summons for parking on the sidewalk, the consumer stated the car behind him tapped his car and the vehicle slipped out of gear and rolled onto the sidewalk. The consumer provided a copy of the recall pertaining to his defect, however the dealer stated the vin number does not apply to the recall. Updated 07/18/07

I own a 1995 saab 900 se with a mannual transmission.i would guess as a saftey feature, this vehicle requires the shift lever to be in the reverse position to remove the key.this insures that the vehicle does not move when not occupied if the parking brake has not been engaged.on my vehicle the shift lever can be in the reverse position and the key removed, but the reverse gear is never actually engaged or can be easily moved out of reverse.the first time i noticed this problem was when i found my vehicle had rolled forward and was resting against the bumper of the vehicle in front of it.the second time i noticed this problem was when i closed the hood, heard a click sound and found my vehicle rolling forward towards me.the vehicle came to rest 30 feet away at the bottom of small slope about 5 feet from the neighbors house.it has happened a couple time since then, but i am unsure of the frequency because i now almost always use the parking brake.

Transmission locked up.

The contact owns a 1995 saab 900.the contact stated that it is possible to move the shift lever into reverse while the key is removed from the ignition and the transmission is still in neutral.he can also accidentally disengage the reverse gear by striking the gear lever.the dealer stated that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 95v068000 (power train:manual transmission); therefore, they would not assume any responsibility for the repairs.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the failure and current mileages were 130,000. Updated 10-30-08the consumer stated the gear box was bad. Updated 10/31/08.

Dt:contactstates: when he shifinghis car it is possible to move the shift lever into the reverse gear, remove the key, and still have ransmission in neutral or to accidentally disengage reverse by striking the gear lever. 1) cruise control w/5 spd transmission; system failed to disengage when depressing brake pedal. 2) system disengaged but speed dropped to zero. Please describe.

At about 1000 a.m. ,my daughter jennifer age 19 was driving my 1995 saab 900se convertible on the nys thruway from albany to our home in utica , nywhen she was approaching the herkimer t-way exit. She was going to exit the t-way there , so she started to slow down. She told me that when she stepped on the brakes the vehicle refused to slow down and began to gain speed. She says that when she took her foot off of the brake the car accelerated on its own from 55 mph to 85 mph in a matter of seconds . She says she became hysterical and began to place all of her weight on her foot and applied the brakes fully ,but to no avail. She says that the car was out of control and when the brakes finally slowed the vehicle just enough where she gained a little bit ofcontrol, she threw the transmission into park and turned the ignition off, steering to the side of the road. As you can see this could have had catastrophic results in any other circumstance. Thank god that my daughter was not injured in any way other than her instant fear of driving a car again.the vehicle now is at the place of business where it was purchased and inquiries are being made at this time to see if anything like this has happened before with this saab product. Damage to the vehicle is undetermined at this time , but suffice to say that the brakes were pretty much burned up.we would appreciate any assistance in this matter that you could give us.sincerely, rose mary dougherty*la

Sudden acceleration twice, once causing accident.

While driving on highway vehicle suddenly accelerates.

On july 22, 2005 i was driving my '95 saab on the a1 motorway in united kingdom. I was using the cruise control at 70 mph (posted speed limit) i had never used the cruise control in this vehicle before. (manual transmission) the incident happened during rush hour heading toward london.as i had to slow down, i had absolutely no brakes! i never had any issue with the brakes prior. Depressing the brake pedal did not disengage the cruise control and i was heading toward the rear end of a car at 70 mph. I quickly swerved to the left lane, then off the road to avoid hitting vehicles and causing a multi-car pile up and potentially many deaths. I flew off the road, through a 5" steel sign post and rolled several times in a field. Amazingly, i was only bruised and battered, but of course the car is totaled. This is a potential serious defect! even if the car is 10 years old, if there is some type of corrosion that happens to cause a failure of brakes to disengage the cruise control, many lives will be lost. Ironically, it was saab engineering that allowed me to walk out of the vehicle, while at the same time caused the accident. Police and witnesses were on scene who saw my brake lights come on, yet not slow down. As i said, the brakes were fine and i can only assume this had something to do with the cruise control. The car will be inspected by uk's vosa.please advise.thank youcharles earhart.

Turned the vehicle on and the automatic defroster came on,drove a few blocks and thenthe rear window shattered.please describe details.

Windows leak when raining or when vehicle is washed.*skd

When driving the rear window exploded for no reason, causing glass fragments to enter the inside of the vehicle.also damaging the convertible top.consumer has contacted the dealer. Please provide any further details.

Rear window too high/too slanted.

Rear glass window is attatched to canvas convertible top by silicon type glue only.failure of this glue has allowed water to enter car and possibility of window falling out. Dealer informs me it is a common problem for 95-98 convertibles.

Mirrors fell off while driving.
