Read complaints for SAAB 9-5 (2000)
On 4/15/06, my husband merle was driving my mother and daughter to a grocery store.my mom stepped out of the front passenger seat; as soon as she did, the side air bag lodged in the passenger seat back spontaneously deployed.it did not deploy upon any kind of collision or impact; however, the car had been in a passenger side collision on february 21, 2006, when another driver hit our car broadside.the repair work was completed in mid-march.on april 18, 2006, i took the car back to the auto body shop that completed the repairs from the 2/21/06 incident.they took the car to saab intl motors (703.534.7222), which performed diagnostics on the car's "black box".my understanding is that the diagnostics did not reveal any helpful information to explain the deployment.the side air bag is now being repaired by international motors, at the expense of state farm (phone 1.888.613.3966), the insurer for the driver who originally collided with our car on 2/21/06.the state farm claim # is 206103504-02.
Dt: the consumer'swife was in serious car accident and the side air bags did not deploy.consumer's vehicle was hit on hit the passenger's side, and was hit so hard that the back passenger'sdoor was stuck to the vehicle that hit it. The driver of the other vehicle admitted he had been going at 30 mph when the side impact occurred. This happened on august 17, 2005. Had not contacted dealership, but will be contacting the manufacturer.
Dt*:the contact stated while parking, smoke was noticed coming in through the vents.after exiting the vehicle, it caught on fire.the fire department extinguished the fire and filled out a report. A police report was also filed on the scene before the vehicle was towed.one passenger sustained minor injuries.the dealer has not been alerted.
I used the car only for week end ski trips twice a month or less through the winter.this occasionally required jump starts.the week of the failure the car started okay to move it to the garage so i could take the snow tires off, i then moved it back to its spot.that friday, i drove over 100 miles from ct to brattleboro, vt, where i went to a supermarket, then a restaurant.it ran perfectly, until i finished dinner, and it would not start.it would crank, but there was no combustion.after a few long walks and many phone calls, no one could help with it and there was no place to stay for the night or cars to rent.i took a taxi 20-30 miles to my family ski house in newfane.the next morning, i called several shops and found one that could look at it. (no dealers in the area)the car was towed to them, and i got a ride from my neighbor down the mountain and back into town.the shop determined it was not a simple fix,and could not give it any more time until later in the week.i called some dealers back in ct, and had it towed there.i got my uncle to come bring me and my dog home.tuesday, i called the dealer it was at, and they told me the direct ignition cassettefailed, and would need to be replaced along with the spark plugs.the repair cost $619.01, and fixed the problem.
On 8/11/03 i was driving on us route 9 in hudson new york when my engine stopped running.pulled to side of road.had to be towed to saab dealer 40 miles away.replace ignition cassette.was advised due to my attempt to re-start the car, raw gas got into catalytic converter.tyhat had to be replaced several weeks later.i am writing this so late as i was unaware this may not be an isolated instance.
Blinking check engine light. Happens every time i accelerate hard. The failure was in the direct ignition cassette. Causing misfire and possible damage to the cat. Dealer will not replace.
2000 saab 9-5 sedan suddenly stalled out at 60 mph as 2 tracker trailers nearly collided into my vehicle.no shoulders on this highway leaving my family in a horribly dangerous place.vermont state police responded to provide protection.thecassette whichhouses the ignition failed.both the dealer and other owners have expressed that this occurs al the time with saabs and there is no way to prevent these cars from stalling at any time!
Vehicle quit on highway would not restart mechanic informed me ignition coil n/g and there was a recall from saab but the serial #on mine is not entitled.
While traveling on the highway at a constant 50 mph, the engine stopped running. There was no indication on an impending failure. One moment the engine was running normally and then suddenly it stopped completely. Fortunately, i managed to get the car safely to the side of the road. The engine would not restart. The car was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failed direct ignition cassette.consider myself very lucky that i was able to get to the side of the road in spite of the heavy traffic.
Direct ignition cassette (dic) failure2000 saab 9-5 aerothe dic on my 2000 saab 9-5 aero failed at 65mph causing engine failure and subsequent loss of vehicle control. No restart.viewed owner feedback at www.saabnet.com and realised dic failure rate on 9-5 model (all years) seems extremely high. Owners have commented that saab recognizes thedefect and in some cases provides spare dic's but has declined to recall. Saab refused to comment, to me, on the failure rate or defect trend for this dic.the dic fails without warning causing engine to stall. Failure at highway speed could be catostrophic. I have seen other owners comment that dic failure can be accompanied by a great deal of smoke and possibly fire. Gm recalled saturn ignition modules as did vw. Wondering why saab has not. (1) irratic engine speed with intermittent hesitation during acceleration.(2) loss of engine power and vehicle control(3) replaced digital ignition cassette, defective part is available.
On two occasions, there has been a total lost of power to the car.the first time ona side street going about 25 or 30.after having the car looked at a saab dealership, i was told nothing was wrong with the car and sent on my way.over this past weekend while driving on i-95 at about 70 mph it happened again while i was in the middle lane.no steering, no brakes, no nothing.every person i have talked to who has owned a saab (model and year difference do not seem to matter) has experienced this problem.the mechanics are now saying that the problem is the throttle body, whatever that is.my general impression of saab's representatives (mechanics, personnel, etc.) is that this defect is not a big deal.there needs to be a recall before someone is seriously injured or killed.
Just as others have reported: dash lights came on: abs, tcs off, warning triangle and brake. Check engine light came on after intermittent problem became permanent. Speedometer and odometer ceased to operate. Researched to discover a common problem with like vehicles (saabnet.com). Service technician confirmed that abs ecu was inoperative and needed to be replaced. Arroway saab dealer attempted to resolve issue with saab usa to replace $3500 part. I would pay labor. Saab dealer refused to guarantee replacement of abs computer would fix problem. Currently working with purchasing a used until for $900. Wish i had known about the rebuild option. This is a consistent problem which is 1) expensive and 2) potentially dangerous as it affects key safety features.
Repeated failure of saab information display (sid) module.
Consumer would like reimbursement for recall repairs done on a 2000 saab 9-5. While driving the vehicle stalled in traffic.in sept 2004 the vehicle's ignition discharge module (idm) was replaced at a charge of over $500. In april 2006 the consumer received a recall notice from saab for the idm.the vehicle was taken to a dealer who explained that the idm had already been replaced.the records did not indicate where the work had been done.the consumer would like to request reimbursement but cannot find the invoice.
I have a 2000 saab 9-5 se, 6 cylinder engine.while driving my car simply stopped running in the middle of traffic.once towed to the service center it was determined that the coil pack on half of the cylinders was at fault.this was replaced.i have learned that saab has recalled the 4 cylinder coil packs but not the 6 cylinder version. Even though the 4 and 6 cylinder version are different, i would expect the manufacturing of these to be very similar.i have heard rumors from repair shops of a high failure rate of the 6 cylinder version too, as in my case.
My car periodically will not start.the lights come on; there appears to be power; but when i turn the ignition, all i hear is a click.the car will start on a bump start (manual trans) and will take a jump.i have had the car to the dealer several times but they cannot find the problem.happens mainly on cold starts.

While driving in traffic my engine suddenly stopped and would not restart.once towed, the service center determined the failure was in a small cheap (to manufacture) hall effect sensor for crankshaft position.this failure of this little switch stopped me dead in the middle of traffic.give the safety issue of this failure mode and the fact it is small and cheap, i would like to see a redundant sensor in the design.this redundant sensor can serve as a fail over mechanism.
On several occasions (5), i was unable to start my car.i would turn the key in the ignition and there would be no response, not even a crank.it would eventually start after many attempts.i would mention this to the service advisor each time i brought my car in and for the first three (3) times they were unable to replicate this problem.the 4th time they finally replaced the ignition switch.thought this would fix the problem...after two weeks, my car did not start again.my 5th time to the dealer, they said it was a faulty safety switch.

Car acceleration hesitant and non responsive putting vehicle in precarious situations at freeway on ramps.ignition cassette diagnosed as failed and needing to be replaced.4 cylinder models have been recalled but my 6 cylinder model has not.service manager indicates replacing 50 - 60 of such cassettes between both 4 and 6 cylinders and can't explain why my vehicle isn't covered by recall.
2000 9.5 ignition discharge cassette had failed and was forced to be replaced. 04/12/07 add to customer wants more info in the letter**ccthe consumer stated he had to pay for the replacement at his expense even though there was a recall. The manufacturer refused to pay for the replacement. Updated 05/08/07.the consumer states the dealer will not replace the recall item becausehe is only entitled to one free recall repair , but the consumer just wants to reimbursed for the defective item he has repaired. Update 05/08/07
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5. The contact stated while driving at approximate speeds of 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. The failure occurred three times and the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and there were no repairs made to the vehicle. The contact was able to locate a recall for the failure under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v399000 (electrical system: ignition: module) however, his vin was not included due to the year the engine was manufactured. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current was unknown.
When exiting the interstate, the car suddenly lost power and the check engine light came on. There was then a smell like an overloaded or burning electrical or electronic part. We drove to the first safe place to stop the car, checked under the hood and found no fire but the smell was very strong. We called the nearest saab dealer and had them make arrangements to tow the car in. After checking the car, they found that the ignition module had burned-out which in turn allowed raw gas in the exhaust to damage the catalytic converter. There is an existing recall (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v399000) which seems to describe the exact problem that i have experienced, but i have been told by saab that my vin number is not covered by this recall. I feel that this incident and failure should be covered under this recall.
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.the contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the temperature gauge indicated that the vehicle was overheating. The vehicle was safely driven to the side of the road and the engine was shut off. After waiting for the engine to cool, the contact dispensed oil into the reservoir. The vehicle resumed and the temperature gauge increased rapidly to the hot level reading. The engine began to overheat and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 05v399000 (electrical system: ignition: module) however, the dealer advised the contact that the vin was not included in the recall campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 134,000.
Car lost power on interstate, noticed engine light on. Obdii scanner gave two codes, 1306 and 306, which indicated misfire cylinder 6. I removed the saab direct ignition to visually inspect cylinder 6. I notice engine oil in the vicinity ,and a cracked idm. It mated with cylinder 6 spark plug. Idm replacement resolved misfire.
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.while driving at any speed, the vehicle suddenly stalls.the vehicle has stalled immediately after the engine was started or even before the vehicle was moved.the contact took the vehicle to a repair shop and the ignition module was replaced.the failure recurred six months later.the contact took the vehicle back to the shop and the ignition module was replaced once again.the failure recurred six months later.through research, he found nhtsa campaign id number 05v399000 (electrical system:ignition:module); however, the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in the recall.the contact believes that the vehicle should be repaired according to the recall since the failures were identical.the failure mileage was 85,000 and current mileage was 130,000.
Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.there was an odor of smoke and the vehicle was pulled over.the vehicle would not restart and was towed to the dealership who determined the ignition discharge module failed and was replaced.there was an nhtsa recall, #05v399000, regarding the ignition module.the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 09/20/06.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph the engine stalled.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v399000, regarding the electrical system: ignition: module.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.
My car engine stopped, twice in the middle of a busy road almost causing an accident once, and a third time coming down the side of a mountain leaving me with no ability to steer.the third time i had it towed to a repair place other than the saab dealer.the repair shop diagnosed it as a faulty ignition cassette.i had it repaired by the shop at a considerable expensei was told by the dealer that there would be a saab recall for my year car.i called saab customer service and was told that the recall would be in march 2006, but that i should submit my expenses for reimbursement review which i did in january 2006.today i was advised that my car was not part of the recall and i was denied reimbursement.see nhtsa campaign #05v399000 for summary.
Idm cassette failure on a 2000 saab 9-5 se (6-cylinder). The car had reduced power and rough operation, lurching with acceleration, and nearly stalling. I was afraid this pregnant woman was going to be left stranded on the side of a dark, country highway on a cold winter night!the next day, power was reduced even further and eventually, the car stalled and will not start up. It was towed to a mechanic who thought the recall on the part (recall 05v-399) would replace the defective idm cassette. The car was then towed to an authorized dealer for replacement. This part is not covered in a 2000 9-5 se. The recall only applies to 2000-2002 saab 9-5's which are 4-cylinder and 2001 9-5's with the 6 cylinder. This is the same part as in those recalled vehicles and should be replaced and included in the recall as well.
While driving, the vehicle stalled without warning. No restart. Internal failure of cat. Converter, replaced cat. Converter. The problem was the r & r ignition module.after the ignition repair, the consumer felt a loss of power.the consumer was informed that the catalytic converter was clogged. *sc
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power.the contact was able to pull off the road before the vehicle completely shut off.the vehicle was towed to his residence.the mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that the cause of failure was the ignition module.this failure was the same as noted in nhtsa recall # 05v399000 (electrical system:ignition:module).the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in the recall.the current and failure mileages were 100,000.
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.on nov 18, 2008, the contact was informed that the vehicle had a faulty head gasket, which was replaced at that time.six months later, the vehicle began jerking while driving 55 mph on the highway.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who stated that the ignition cassette was causing the vehicle to jerk.the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 05v399000.the contact feels that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs since the failures were identical to those listed in the recall.the current mileage was 125,000 and failure mileage was 115,000. Updated 05/13/09.*ljthe consumer stated when she started the vehicle, it lunged forward and then stall.updated 05/13/09.
Ignition discharge module failed . I have a v63.0 model of this car.4 cylinder and later year modes of this car are covered for this defect.however mine is not.i believe it should be as this is a clear defect in the ignition discharge module. Please contact me.
Direct ignition cassettes failed on my saab, year 2000 95 wagon while driving in sarasota.fortunately, i was able to coast onto a side road to park the car and then (unfortunately) walk 3 miles home.i had a $50 tow charge along with the bill to replace the dic, plus i lost the use of my car from monday until friday.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine light illuminated and remained on.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v399000, regarding the ignition module.the contact spoke to the manufacturer and received pre-approval to have the recall remedy performed at an authorized dealership.upon taking the vehicle to the local dealership for repair, the service manager contacted the manufacturer for approval.the manufacturer told the dealership service manager they reconsidered and would not be including the vehicle in the recall remedy. The vehicle has the same problem as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.
Di cassette failure on my 2000 saab 9-5 aero.this part has been replaced at least twice previously, and the saab dealership is recommending a third replacement now at 84k miles.additionally, they state that the catalytic converter has been damaged because of the di cassette failure.total cost for these repairs nears $2000, which is egregious for the type of failure and the apparent frequency of replacement.
2000 saab 9-5 failed ignition cassette. Saab said they will not pay for repair even though the part had been recalled. Recall # 05v399000. *dtalso the fuel pump failed.
(1) vehicle was purchased used from dealer with valid inspection. Car was started 5 times prior to failure, taking longer to start each time. (2) ignition discharge module (idm)e vehicle was running and moving at roughly at 25 mph. Failure left driver stranded without a usable vehicle for several days. (3) the crank position sensor was replaced on the vehicle in an attempt to remedy the problem, to no avail.,an obd ii reader was used to diagnose the problem afterwards. A p1310 code was produced. Once the code was cleared, attempting to restart the engine resulted in the p1310 code being produced again. Two idm cassettes (saab part number #9187436 ) were purchased and installed by owner to remedy the problem.
Check engine light came on as i was leaving the maintenance shop.personnel diagnosed it (using tech 2) as a bad direct ignition cassette.loss of engine performance.
I own a 2000 saab 9-5 v6.just recently, about a month ago, my check engine light came on in the car.when this happened the car began to hesitate and "buck".i had a car computer hooked up to my car to find out what the problem is.the code came back as a cylinder misfire on cylinder #2.i asked the auto technician what could cause that to happen.he told me to replace the spark plugs and in that did not fix the problem that i would have to replace the coil pack.so i replaced the spark plugs and the problem continued.i went online to research prices of coil packs or ignition cassettes for my car.while doing so i came across the fact that this part has been recalled on many saabs.i then called the dealership to find out what should be done to find out if my vehicle was in fact one of the vehicles with a recalled part.he then looked up my vin number and told me that my car did not fall under the recall.i do not know how else to investigate if this is in fact true.if i am not under the recall, i do not understand what makes my failing car part different from the other parts that were recalled for my vehicle.
On 2/21/06 my saab 9-5 se v6 was started, was running rough as cylinders were obviously misfiring. Brought in to dealer immediately. Told ignition cassette needed to be replaced. Told to call saab for reimbursement as many of these cassettes were failing and should not be.
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.while approaching a stop light at 10 mph, the vehiclebegan vibrating excessively and the engine light illuminated on the instrument control panel.minutes later, the interior lighting dimmed, the vehicle dramatically decelerated, and a burning smell was present.the vehicle lost power, but was restarted 15 minutes later.the vehicle was driven to a local dealer and they stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure as stated in nhtsa campaign id number 05v399000 (electrical system:ignition:module).the contact would have to pay for the repair.the vehicle is currently being repaired.he filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer.the vin and engine size were unknown.the failure and current mileages were 59,000.
Electrical system:ignition:module failure caused overheating of the engine. The engine stalled while on the interstate highway. This could have caused an accident as lost all power steering and power brakes. Auto mobile was 2000 saab 9-5 with a v-6 reference recall notice 05v399000, saab denies this vehicle was under the recall.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle started to run rough.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who replaced the ignition module.there was a nhtsa recall, #05v399000 on the vehicle regarding the electrical system: ignition: module.the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.
Two months ago one of the two ignition coil packs on the 2000 saab 9-5 se failed and left me stranded on the road.i had the car towed, and diagnostics indicated multiple misfires on a few cylinders controlled by one bank of two.then, a few weeks later the throttle body failed and left me stranded again.this was replaced.then ,last week the car indicated errors again, and i limped into the service station and discovered the second bank of ignition coils was misfiring.the 4 cylinder version of the saab ignition coils have already been recalled, and i think the 6 cylinder version should be too.
Dt*: the contact stated one year ago the check engine light illuminated.the dealership determined the ignition discharge module needed to be replaced.the part was replaced and later the contact discovered there was a nhtsa recall, # 05v399000, regarding the electrical system: ignition: module.the vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however was not included in the recall due to the vin.
I recently bought a 2000 saab9-5 se (v-6) (less than 2 months ago) and i was driving down the road and i could not accelerate. I tried to pull her over and put some dry gas in her hoping that would fix it but it did not. I nursed her into a garage (not a saab garage) and the mechanic diagnosed it with a ignition cassette failure. I checked on your web-site and called the saab number and the guy said that the recall was outside of the normal recall. I found this very odd because it was the same part just on a different vin. I have never heard of these parts going before and it seems odd that it would go especially when the car is in great shape and has always been well maintained.
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.while driving 5 mph through ez pass toll lane, the engine light illuminated and remained lit.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and the electrical system:ignition:module was repaired; however, the dealer stated that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v399000.the current and failure mileages were 78,015. Updated 11/02/07.
The contact owns a 2000 saab arrow 9-5.while driving between 25-55 mph, the vehicle stalls.the failure has occurred on several occasions.on march 15, 2007, the vehicle stalled and was towed to the dealer.nhtsa campaign id number 05v39000 (electrical system: ignition: module) did not apply to the vin.the purchase date and powertrain were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 109,000.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 50 mph the engine stalled without warning.the vehicle coasted off the road without incident.it was restarted and the check engine light illuminated.the vehicle would not exceed 35mph and was driven to an independent repair shop. The mechanic determined the ignition module had failed and was replaced.the vehicle was driven only 30 miles more when the check engine light re illuminated.the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined the catalytic converter had failed.there is a nhtsa recall, 05v399000, regarding the electrical system: ignition module.the vin was not included in the recall.
My direct ignition module failed right as i was exiting the freeway. The car started shaking violently and i picked up the burning smell of electronics coming from the front of my car. If it had happened moments before, i would not want to imagine what would've happened. This has been a widely reported issue and a recall has been issued for nhtsa campaign id number : 05v399000 . However, i believe that saab is skirting on their responsibilities since the v6 model uses the exact same part as the one covered under the recall. This is a very dangerous defect and should be addressed for all saabs with these part numbers.

Failure of distributor ignition cassette (ignition coils).
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.the contact believes that the ignition discharge module was the cause of her vehicle catching fire.the contact stated that before the fire occurred, the check engine light flashed.the contact's husband was driving when he noticed smoke rising from under the hood.he pulled over and exited the vehicle as it caught fire.the fire department extinguished the fire and the vehicle was towed.a police report was filed.the purchase date and speed were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 92,000.
Engine misfiring would hesitate and stop other times drivable but not without concern for safety.determined to be id module which was replaced.saab refused reimbursement for recall stating vin not included.
Water pump failure, transmission mount failure may have attributed to ecm module failure, turbo seal failure, catalytic converter failure. Car died and had to towed off a highway.
The contact owns a 2000 saab 95. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph approaching a traffic stop light the vehicle stalled and suddenly the engine completely shut off. The vehicle restarted after waiting for a period of five minutes with the illumination of the dashboard. The dealer was notified and stated the vehicle operated properly. The failure mileage was 77,000. The current mileage was 103,000.
While driving 55 mph, vehicle lost all power.ecm was replaced but problem still exists.(nar)*la
The contact owns a 2002 saab 9-5 (gary fisher edition). The vehicle stalled intermittently without any prior warning while driving at various speeds. The failure increased the risk of a crash and serious injury. In order to restart the vehicle he had to unplug the fuse to the ecm, re-insert it, then the vehicle resumes normal function. He has not had the vehicle repaired because the technicians cannot properly diagnose the cause of the failure. The failuremileage was 132,000 and thecurrent mileage was 135,233.
There is a very strong polluted smell of fumes coming from the exhaust system.odor has caused the driver to be very uncomfortable while driving.
While driving, the vehicle stalled without warning. No restart. Internal failure of cat. Converter, replaced cat. Converter. The problem was the r & r ignition module.after the ignition repair, the consumer felt a loss of power.the consumer was informed that the catalytic converter was clogged. *sc

Catalytic converter failure.
Direct ignition cassette failure...this causes the car to sputter like the engine is going to die and burns the electrical inside of the direct ignition cassette.we had the car hooked up to the machine and tested and got a misfire code (p0325) and once the check engine was cleared it worked again for a few minutes.the car will then stop operating, the engine stays running but when you try to accelerate the car does not move, goes into limp mode.this happened to me on the freeway this morning and thankfully i could coast to the side of the road.saabservices.com shows that a recall was issued on this make and model but the serial numbers on mine fall out of the range of the serial numbers the recall covers.
Driving slowly in heavy traffic, i noticed a loss of power when i attempted to merge with freeway traffic. The gas gauge needle was dropping quicker than normal, and the gasoline fumes became apparent after cracking a window. The engine stalled for the third and last time as i exited the freeway. Upon inspection, i could see that the fuel 'line out' from the pump under the back seat had come out, forcing fuel out onto the road, just in front of my right rear wheel. I was able to push it back in as the retaining clip was not broken. With air in the line, it took a while to start up and get to a nearby gas station. Double zip-ties when i got home. Called my saab guy who said there had been a recall, and i need to get their late fix bracket. It will never come out again of its own accord, and i'm thankful that i didn't have to get it towed - this time.
Noxious terrible smell --sue to a poorly designed catalytic converter---replaced cataltic converter w/new design nothing helped--sulphurous smell that irriates wife's lungs
Driving in heavy traffic after leaving work, i noticed no loss of power until i attempted to merge with freeway traffic. Soon enough, though i did notice that the gas gauge needle was dropping quicker than normal, and the gasoline fumes became apparent after cracking the windows. The engine stalled for the third and last time just as i escaped off the freeway. Upon inspection, i could see that the fuel line out from the pump under the back seat had come out, forcing all (of that oh-so-precious) fuel out onto the road, just in front of my right rear wheel. I pushed it back in (fuel tank 'roads?), as the retaining clip was not broken. Now with some air in the line, it took a while to suck enough fumes to start up and get to a nearby gas station. Smooth as silk after a dose of fuel. Double zip-ties when i got home. Called my saab guy who said there had been a recall, and i need to get their 'after fix' bracket. It will never come out again, and i'm grateful i didn't have to get towed this time.
2000 saab 9-5 failed ignition cassette. Saab said they will not pay for repair even though the part had been recalled. Recall # 05v399000. *dtalso the fuel pump failed.
Consumer saab aero 9-5 clip hold the gas tank broke, spilling gasoline all over the car, the road and exhaust lines.***nar***a clip that was holding the gas hose in place broke, which required the replacement of the entire fuel pump.
I was traveling north on route 93 north of boston in rush hour.someone started flashing lights and honking at me.i pulled over (fortunately 150 feet before the breakdown lane is used as a travel lane) and smelled gas.the high-pressure fuel line had popped off the fuel tank under the access plate under the rear seat.i cleaned up the mess as much as possible, pushed the fuel line back in, let it sit for 15 minutes and then proceeded home. The white retaining clip is not broken.i don't know how the fuel line came out, but this is now the second time, it also happened october 29 to my wife and we had to have the car towed home.i added stainless wire to keep the bracket from allowing the fuel line to pop out again and ordered the bracket that saab has to address a similar problem on the 9-3.
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5. There was a strong fuel odor leaking from the vehicle. The contact observed that fuel was leaking from the gas tank. The vehicle was towed to a repair facility the following day since all of the fuel leaked out of the vehicle. A mechanic advised him that recall 07v087000, fuel was related to the failure; however, his vin was not included. The vehicle was repaired at the owners expense. The manufacturer also confirmed that his vin was not a part of the recall. The current mileage was 191,535 and the failure mileage was 190,708. Updated 12/30/09. *ljupdated 12/30/09
The contact owns a 2000 saab 9-5.the contact stated that the fuel line loosened from the pump and caused fuel leakage.the dealer attributed it to the tabs holding the fuel line.the fuel pump line was completely disconnected.the engine stopped while driving approximately 35 mph.the contact exited the vehicle and noticed a puddle and fumes.the vehicle was towed.the contact experienced the same failure as described in nhtsa campaign id number 07v087000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings).the current and failure mileages were 68,690.updated 04/23/08.*ljupdated
My 2000 saab 9-5 with approx. 30,000 miles stalls without warning while driving.car restarts immediately.this has happened about four times in the past few months.it also surges then stalls while stopped at traffic light or in traffic.car restarts immediately.have had car in for service at dealership three times in the past two months and they cannot duplicate the problem.surging problem is getting progressively worse and happening most every day. Have not been in accident (my driving is local and alot of stop and go) but i will not drive car on parkway for fear of stalling.
A loud noise is coming from the gas tank as gas moves in the tank. *mjs
The check engine light came on in my car and based on previous experience i immediately drove to the repair center.they checked the codes and discovered 3 errors related to the throttle body.they cleared the codes, drove the car and the light came on again.since they did not have the part in stock i attempted to drive it home but the engine would barely start and even after starting it ran rough.i refused to drive it since my experience so far has been when a component on this car fails, the car does not degrade gracefully but rather stops abruptly (using in the middle of the road).

Door does not unlock with unlock switch when door is locked manually.if you lock the door manually -- by resting your elbow on the locking button -- the unlock switch does not unlock the door.the unlock switch makes a noise like it is trying to unlock the door but it does not actually unlock it.the dealer verified that this occurs on other models of this same car.*nlm
Emergency brake cable.it seems the routing of the cable causes wear and has allowed water to enter the cable and freeze, rendering the e. Brake non functional during the winter months.as the vehicle has had the issue since it had app 62,000 miles i have tried to get saab to correct a sit is a saftey item, but to no avail.

Twice in the 4 year, 60k life of my saab 9-5 wagon, the rear center seat belt has locked up, so as not to be usable.both times after fully folding down the rear seat and raising it back to its upright position.the first time, saab made repairs under warranty.i have yet to contact saab or search your service bulletins.i doubt i have folded down this seat more than 20 times so the failure rate, for me, is >10%.
During driving, i experienced intermittent failures of the abs system. Over time it became constant.apparently, the abs control module has failed, as seems to be common with this vehicle.the problem causes the speedometer to shut off, the odometer to stop clocking miles, the abs system to shutdown and the traction control system to shut off.
I purchased a saab 9.5 wagon- year 2000 with 53,000 miles on it. Now it has 63,000 miles. My repair bills currently are over $7,000 excluding maintenance and routine service (the warranty that i purchased w/ the car has not covered any of repairs).one day about 5 lights came on at the same time on my dash. I am talking about the lights/symbols that come on when a particular problem arises with the car. The entire brake system lights came on they are called the abs, tcs and 2 other brake related lights along w/ the engine light. I took my car to saab in santa monica and the mechanic, tony, ran a test and told me that i need to replace my abs computer brake component. The price for the part would be 2,800 plus 200.00- 300.00 for labor, so approx. 3,000 to replace this computer unit. The mechanic explained to me that i should file a claim with saab because of the "tremendous amount of failures" with this component. I did and i was denied by saab. Unable to afford the cost of this repair, mainly because, like i mentioned before, i am well over $7,000 in repair bills already and i simply cannot come up with 3,000 right now. So, i was driving my car home and by accident the ignition key was nudged which caused the key to turn off the car. I completely lost all brake power and was forced to use my emergency brake to avoid hitting pedestrians walking across the street. This wasa terrifying situation, i have never experienced completed brake failure and now i am terrified to use my car at all. Since i cannot afford to have this computer component replaced i make an attempt not to drive my car. It seems to me that saab should take a more serious look at this problem. I have had 3 saab mechanics tell me the same thing about the this abs computer component, that it needs to be replaced often, and that it is something saab should be held responsible for. Is saab aware of the potential danger owner's of saabs have and the general public regarding this specific problem?
While driving inthe2000 9-5 the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree ; abs, tcs, brakes, etc..brought the vehicle to the dealer, and was advised that i needed a new abs controller . The cost to replaceit was$2,700.i asked if they could install a rebuild or an aftermarket part ,and they advised that it would cost $1,600.still aghast, i did some internet research and found that the bosch abs module faile d routinely, and couldbe repaired for approximately $150 to $250.aside from the potential safety issue of this part commonly failing there also appeared to be quite a mark up from the dealer/manufacturers on this part.
I was traveling to san diego when my engine problem light came on along with tcs, abs and speedometer lights came on.i have learned from previous experience with this vehicle that the engine problem light means that this vehicle engine could blow up.after spending the night (not intended) in san diego, i called the local dealer and they explained that this was a common problem and that it was a $2500 fix. They recommended that i drive the vehicle and not worry about my traction control or abs not working properly.i have purchased a new vehicle and am now working on fixing this problem via resources on the web for 1/4th the dealer cost.

It appears that these bosch abs modules are causing problems in many brands of vehicles.searching ebay, i found there to be more instances of this than i could count.
I own a 2000 saab 9-5. I have found there to be an issue with the abs control module. This issue is present and known on many discussion boards for the vehicle. I would like to know why the abs control module on these vehicles have not been recalled? the problem causes the speedometer to shut off, the odometer to stop clocking miles, the abs system to shutdown and the traction control system to shut off. This is a fairly serious issue that may result in injury or death. It is a very well known problem among 2000 saab 9-5 owners. Thank you for your help. To reference one of many known instances of this saab issue, please visit:http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73456.
Sudden multiple display of dash lights indicating failure of the anti lock braking systemincluding disablement of the speedometer and odometer. This failure occurredless than one month after warranty period on car expired. Saab dealer requested $3000 to replace the abs unit as a start, to find out why abs system is disabled.diagnostic checks (two independent shops) indicate no communication with abs system computer so diagnostic of actual cause of failure impossible. I found out independently from private consumer group: www.saabnet.com , that this is common failure with saab 95s that are several years old and that severalindependent companies can rebuild the abs controller for less than $300.i removed the abs electronic control moduleand sent it for rebuild. I am awaiting return of part for reinstallation.
While driving my 2000 saab 9-5 lpt, the warning lights come on and the speedometer goes to zero.the mechanic states that the abs computer has failed due to a defect in the electronics.
While routine driving the abs, check engine light, brake (indicating emergency brake being engaged) and tcs off will illuminate. The speedometer will go to zero. Upon inspection at the dealer, their words, not mine. Is that "your abs control module is fried". Once this was diagnosed, we were told that the car is safe to drive, if we do not need abs or traction control (tcs off). The part is $2800. Now upon doing some research, this is a common problem for the manufacturer of the product, bosch. Supposedly this has occurred quite frequently on saab's , multiple gm and ford vehicles as well. The most dangerous part of the issue is the car sometimes at usually the worse times it goes into limp home mode.
The break booster gave out on my '00 saab while driving causing the breaks to stop working.
Brake booster malfunction in 2000 saab 95 causing the brakes to fail while driving.

I own a 2000 saab 9-5 aero sedan.on june 14, 2007, i was driving this car when i experienced total loss of the braking system.this loss occurred completely without warning.the only way to stop the car was by engaging the emergency brake. Subsequent examination by a mechanic determined that the vacuum pump and brake booster had failed. I was fortunate in that the emergency brake engaged and that i did not drift out into the 5 lane highway that i was approaching.i was also fortunate in that i did not hit other cars or pedestrians in this incident.saab has recalled other models that have had similar brake problems andi believe that the 9-5 should be investigated.
When parked on hill overnight with car pointed down hill, when engine is started and shift lever moved to drive and hand brake released, the foot brake is unable to prevent the car from rolling and hand brake must be used to stop vehicle. After a few minutes of driving, the foot brakes appear to function normally. This could be a serious problem for a woman unable to work hand brake or exert enough brake pedal effort to assist in stopping the car. Saab expert mechanic says this is a common design problem and i should report it as a serious safety problem.
Intermittently, while driving at 50 mph power steering wheellocked.vehicle was towed to the dealer, who inspected vehicle four times, but could not duplicate or resolve the problem.
Engine and electrical system.(the hood burned) *sc according to the report, the fire was a result in the power steering system which allowed fluid to leak on the exhaust which caused the fire.
Complaint about automobile paint.i purchased car recentlyand the hood and top on car is flaky and faded.the color description is gray.i am wondering if this is a problem with cars that were made in the year 2000.the hood and top would have to be painted.it doesn't look like tree sap or any foreign substance affected the paint.it looks like the paint just broke down.
Erik eagleton re odi vehicle safety owner's questionnaire rtd to him with incorrect info, request a new copy of questionnaire be rtd to him w/changes made** transferred to barbara sauers per mrs. Demeter**ccthe consumer stated the window defroster and heat are not working on the drivers side.
Temperature settings/adjustments on the climate control system do not work as intended. When it is cold outside, a set temperature of 68 degreesinitially provides warm air, then it turns cold and the temp has to be raised to 82 degreesfor warm air. Sometimes, the right side operates. The car has been in the dealer shop twice, the second time for 3 weeks, and the dealer was unable to fix it. Car is still under warranty. The dealer says there is something wrong with the design of the heating/ventilation system, and that they have seen other 2000-2001 year models with the same problem, and that saab has redesigned the system since then. After the first year of ownership, during the summer the system provided hot air instead of air conditioning, but that was fixed.
Dt*: the contact stated the defroster no longer defrosts the window on the driver's side. The dealer was alerted who determined there is a current technical service bulletin on this issue. This vehicle has not been taken to the dealer however the contact expressed that this problem was identified by the dealer as an ongoing issue. 08/01/06updated.
When i bought car i complainedthe engine light was on.the sales person told me not to worry about it,and i took it to the dealer today.and they said the engine light was on because of an evaporative. I have had the car a month and they say they can't fix it.
My 2000 saab 9-5 has only 39,500 miles.it has lost the ability to heat the drivers side which is a safety concern while driving in the winter.the system can not generate enough heat to melt the ice on the windshield. I had the car diagnosed at the saab dealer at the beginning of december.the diagnosis was that a motor shaft in a heater box was broken. Last week i found this shaft on the floor.it has extensive mechanical damage.in my opinion the only explanation is that it was defective when it was installed in the car or the design of the heating system was not done properly.
