Battery disconnect failed while driving our 20,200 pound rv at highway speed. The failure resulted in total loss of chassis power (engine stopped, power steering ceased, power steering ceased, all dash indicators non-operational, emergency flasher non-operational, etc.).the failure caused us to coast to a stop as there was nothing else we could do. The failed part was later identified as: battery disconnect solenoid (intellitec 01-00055-00204098bcc relay (printed on sticker placed on top portion of unit), 612-12v797 (printed on bottom of unit). The battery disconnect service manual, p/n 53-00066-100, rev b, 030905 fails to list total loss of power while in motion as a potential problem.
On ford chassis, bolt that hold the driveline which goes into the transmission, sheared off which may cause a crash.
Driveshaft failed.
Ford engineer inspection concluded that manufacturer did not follow ford specifications for extending chasis/ driveshaft was 3 inches too long and not at the proper angle. Also parts that should have been bolted were welded. I have proof of all these all.the driveshaft fell off on three separate occasions due to this defect.
