Monday 7/20/15 (97 degrees hot)the car was in front of the garage. Put groceries inside the house, on my way back for more, i saw white smoke and the lights were flickering and smelt like burnt rubber and horn was making noise even though i had the car keys in my pocket. Next, i see black smoke coming out of the dash area and i ran inside to get the fire extinguisher from my kitchen. I sprayed the dash and it looked liked the smoke had stopped.next thing a huge blaze of fire, so i ran to my hose and sprayed water on the dash. Windshield shattered and my passenger airbag went off. Firefighters and police came and assisted.never thought something like this was possible until i went online and saw how many people's porsches has caught fire due to a circuited fuse.

Porsche has had starting issues for over 5 years. Battery replaced 4 years, retested two time found good and fully charge. Called three porsche dealers and was give a part number for the replacement of a defective positive battery cable/ connector into firewall stud that was not indicated in any maintenance brochures issued by porsche cars of north america, atlanta, georgia, importer.was advised by senior porsche club of america that pcna issued a service technical bulletin that this 12" red battery cable female quick release connector is causing fires in old porsche 911 & 911s.in 2012 and 2103, the 997-1 was brought to two dealers and they tested electrical system, but did not recommend any maintenance on this battery connector nor male terminal in firewall. On arriving after the holidays, 997-1 failed to start, tow operator started, and by movement in the red battery cable the terminal made a low voltage connection. When the pca senior turbo tech found in 5 minutes the issue and a fire could have occurred. He cleaned the male terminal lug, that was rusted to the quick release female end of the red battery cable and then inspected the quick connect end (red quick release lever) and found that the inside of the female connected to have been arc welded (high amperage restriction) had damages all interior connector surfaces.porsche cars of north america has open a case and is pending at this time.the car was stationery, in a failure to start condition, parked in my driveway.
