Pontiac/gm has issued several recalls for the airbag and components. (recall #13030, 13113, & 14491.)the dealer does not stock the mandatory parts for recall #13030, and the parts for recall #14491 are not available yet. (they are still "making" them.)so at a minimum i would have to take my car in twice to get it fixed, and probably a third time since the parts for recall 14491 are not available yet, even though i received a notice to take my car in for it.this is horribly inconvenient for the consumer.while it is "no charge", there is a huge time penalty to get these recalls fixed.

Took my car for three recalls at herb chambers in warwick they kept me there for hours in did none of them then told me they would call the next day and i haven't heard from them it's been over a week.

My husband was cut off on an exit ramp on 62east. When he crashed he hit a tree head on causing the airbags to deploy and cut open his head. He still has pain and issues within his accident area and i think this is related to the air bag recalls and feel that if there are continuous checks and issues that we should be involved in any lawsuit against the company for the negligence upon the issues with the airbag.

I have been dealing with gm for well over a year in reguards to multiple recalls on my cars air bag system. During this time i have repeatedly been given the run around by them and they're dealer, o'neal buick in warminster,pa, with reguards to what needs to be done, availability of parts, and overall lack of concern that a vital safety system does not operate properly. To add insult to the situation, after the intial round of recalls when they worked on part of the electrical system,my air bag light was triggered.i had a mechanic diagnose the problem and the system now has a short in it.the dealer will be happy to repair the problem for a fee.

This vehicle was in an accident in december of 2009. It was totaled. I broke my sternum because the airbag did not deploy properly. This was before the recall. It was on black ice and i hit the meridian strip twice and spun out, did not hit any other vehicles. It is too late now to do anything, but i wanted to stop getting recall notices. Thank you

I have complied with the recalls on the airbag for this vehicle. After we got the last recall on this vehicle completed, about 3 weeks later the warning light for the airbag came on and does not go out. The owner manual tells me this is a danger and the airbag could deploy at any time. After researching i found multiply vehicles with the same issue.i took it back to them and they told me it was nothing they did.now they want $1000 to fix the issue.sound bogeys to me>i do not have any photos but i do have my paper work

Takata recall.been waitingfor 6 months or more for the parts to come in from dealership..backorder.

Received a recall notice on vehicle airbag module.brought vehicle to a gm dealership to do the work, work was performed to place a radio harness on the module. Suddenly the airbag light came on and has stayed on intermittently since this repair. Brought car back to dealership, they proceeded to tell us that it had nothing to do with the recall and that the module was bad. This is not accurate as we had replaced the module. The will not repair the problem without charging us hefty diagnostic fees. There were no issues with the airbag system prior to this recall work. Repeated requests for assistance from gm have not been answered.

I received a recall for 13030. After they 'fixed' it my air bag light turned on. I received a recall for 14877. I took it to the same dealership and the light is still on. They are now fighting with me saying that they did not do this and they will not fix it as it has nothing to do with the recall. After arguing with them, they did run a free dx text which would of costed me $90.00. As of today my vehicleits now codingb1181 and that they are now trying to charge me $1,000.00 to replace the airbag and coil. However i did not have any issue with my airbag light before they did the recall

Takata recalltwo times tried to get this recall fixed for air bags, as my precious daughter drives this car. Been screwed around from the dealership. Wasted so much time on the phone and taking the vehicle in to the dealer. Both times they were unable to fix the recall saying they didn't have the right part. I believe this recall is a fake and gm is going through the motions only to appease the nhtsa, the reality is vehicles are not being fixed as promised! so disappointed.

Airbag recall, so i took my 2003 pontiac vibe to a gm dealerto fix the problem, but it was never fixed. Now my car fails inspection because airbad light is on.

We were told that we were not included in a recall notification we received in june. We got another notice in november from pontiac stating that indeed we were. So we are concerned why we were told no the first time. Thank you

I was driving south on nottingham dr. At the intersection of north westover blvd ( i had a green light ) when a white lexus turned left on to n. Westover blvd in front of me.the lexus was too close to avoid and the front passenger-side corner of my car impacted the rear passenger-side door and rear wheel of the lexus, turning it 180 degrees clockwise.the side air curtains of the lexus deployed but the air bags in my car did not deploy.i believe the air bags in my car should have deployed.

Takata recall; i received a recall notification directing me to go to kool chevrolet for repairs.parts were ordered and a service person called and an appointment was made.the service manager jason immediately called me to say they would not honor the appointment and work on my car because of an incident at kool toyota next door relating to incompetent work performed on my 2012 toyota rav4 two years ago.are toyota and gm now one and the same?why solicit my business and then refuse to do it after all arrangements have been made? can a gm dealer "blackball" a consumer trying to complete a life threatening recall repair? i will contest in advance any excuse that kool chevrolet comes up with that they say justifies their inaction to perform this life threatening recall repair.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. While driving and making a right turn, the air bags deployed without warning or impact. The air bags did not inflate. I was in a accident on 11/29/2013 on crow canyon, san ramon, ca and the individual in front of me slammed on her brakes so i in turn did the same and my vehicle hit the vehicle in front of me and totaled my front end.the airbags did not deploy and my body slammed into the steering wheel which in turn hurt my chest.the san ramon p.d was shocked that the airbags did not deploy.i received a recall notice on 1/2012 stating the parts were defective.never was resolved by gmc/pontiac.had i not been wearing my seat belt i would have gone thru windshield.the airbags should have deployed.the gmc people should have resolved the problem about the airbags.this is just not correct.someone should be held accountable for the defect.updated 12/18/13

My 2003 pontiac vibe received over $10000 in damages and was judged totaled due to a collision with a lincoln towncar on july 13, 2014.the lincoln struck the front of my car at an angle while making a left turn into my path from oncoming traffic.i was traveling approximately 40-45 mph and had little time to react and brake prior to the impact.the impact drove the front bumper into the radiator and the radiator into the engine doing a considerable amount of damage under the hood.there was no obvious physical damage to the passenger compartment but my concern is that the air bags did not deploy to prevent me from being injured.the police officer responding to the incident also indicated surprise that the air bags would not deploy in this type of accident.there had been prior recalls on my vehicle that were air bag related and i had responded to all of them by taking the car in for servicing.

Takata recall

I have a2003 pontiac vibe which had atakata recall. In january 2020, i took the car to a gm dealer called"quality buick gmc of englewood" located at"406 grand ave englewood nj 07631 us" to do the recall repair. Since the day of the repair the lid on top left side of the dashboard had poppedup and did not close fully. That is where the passenger's airbag in the upper left of the dashboard is located.i thought this was just a cosmetic issue that could be ignored. The car startedmaking intermittentnoises similar to a clock sound shortly thereafter. I have rarely driven the car due to the pandemic since the repair was done. But recently the noise has become steady. I had my mechanic who specializes in toyota cars check the car in april 2021. My mechanic happens to be familiar with the takata airbag issue. He says that the airbag repair done on the car in 2020 is the root cause of the noise. That is to say my car was messed up as a result of this so called recall repair. The manufacturer now refuses to check the car to determine whether or not the recall repair has been done correctly.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. While operating the vehicle, the air bag sensor remained illuminated. The cause of the failure was not determined. Walser buick (2775 long lake rd, roseville, mn) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

"takata recall", i have had my airbags replaced per takata request however the airbag indicator is still indicating a problem; is it safe or not, the mechanics have no answer for me?

Takata recalli took my vehicle in for a takata recall.after the work was done, my srs light came on.when i went to the dealer, they said it had nothing to do with the work they did.they didn't look at the car, they didn't diagnose the problem, they just said it wasn't their fault, but i could pay to have them hook up their computer to diagnose the code.i diagnosed the code myself and it is for an "airbag stage 2- open circuit."i find it hard to believe that the dealer (an authorized gm dealer - bill pierre chevrolet in seattle) worked on my airbag system and their work has nothing to do with this airbag system fault that popped up after the work was performed.they didn't diagnose the code, they didn't look at the car, they just dismissed my complaint, and told me to pay to have it repaired or even looked at.

Takata recall received recall notification for air bag being faulty; however have not received any notification when or where to have it replaced or any monetary compensation, car rental and all that is listed on the class action filed?

While crossing an intersection consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy. No injuries reported. The consuemr was involved in two other accidents in which the air bags did not deploy.

Dt:consumer'svehicle was hit and front of the vehicle was smashed in.the force of seat belt left a bruise. The air bagsnever deployed. The insurance company stated the air bags were a pontiac issue. Pontiac wanted consumerto pay for towingvehicle 110 miles. This happened on august 1, 2005.

While driving 55 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy. As resultdriver and passenger sustainedminor neck and shoulder injuries.

19 jan 2009, 2003 pontiac vibe was involved in a front end collision with another vehicle crossing a intersection. Air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Vehicle was towed to a salvage yard. While removing the contents, i was able to take a look at the front end, one air bag (rh) sensor was completely missed and the left sensor (lh) was unable to be seen, but the location of the (lh) sensor appeared to take a direct hit. Three people were in the vibe.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact stated that the driver side air bag warning indicator illuminated. Airbag module failure at 49000 miles....dealer nor pontiac will do nothing to correct problem unless i pay the $520.00.

I came out one morning to start up my vehicle, which it did smoothly and without hesitation; i then noticed that my instrument panel was completely dead. The back lighting was out, the indicator needles on my speedometer, fuel meter, etc... Are none responsive. At first i thought it may have just been a problem with the fuse...so looked up the fuse diagrams in my owners manual and switched out all the fuses which could possibly result in the issue but to no success. The car runs perfectly fine and is a problem with the electrical/computer system somewhere. However, it is extremely unsafe to drive without knowing how fast your going and how much fuel you have.

The red interior dashboard lights turn on initially when the car is started but then turn off, occasionally turning back on for a few seconds. When the lights are off the odometer, gas gauge, and all other dashboard gauges cannot be seen in daylight or at night. I noticed that this started occurring after i had the car washed and the oil changed (had not previously used this garage). It appears to be possibly a sensor problem.the only problems that it has caused is not knowing the how fast i am driving and how much gas i have. The light works that shows that the gas is close to empty. Have not taken it in to the dealer yet.

Blower motor not closing or opening all the way makes noise goes away when recirculation is engauged comes right back when turned off

I had been having problems with acceleration on my 2003 pontiac vibe and i was leaving my place of business a few days after the problem started and my rpms dropped to 0 while driving approximately 35mph and then it seemed to of "caught" and i drove to where i needed to go, i took my car to the shop and once it turned off it wouldn't restart. They seemed to think it was the fuel pump and recommended i take it back to where i originally got the vehicle 6 months ago since it was covered under warranty, so i did and they agreed it was the fuel pump they changed the fuel pump and was still having the same problem with not starting they took it to a dealer and after it sat there for 3 weeks leaving me without a car , i was then told it was the main computer for the car and will cost me $1100 to fix. However i still don't have my car back since i don't have the money to fix it. However i just received a recall notice for my car and one of the 3recalls is for the ecm. Isn't that the same as the 'main computer' in the car and shouldn't the dealer fixed it at no charge and been made aware of this. So now i have been withouta carfor a month for what should of been fixed before i even bought the car.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. While parked, the contact noticed that the instrument panel gauges failed and would not provide a reading. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic stated the instrument panel would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unable to find the part needed for repair. The approximate failure mileage was 95,400. The vin was not available.

An overly sensitive ambient light sensor turns on the headlights and dims the instrument cluster display on a bright sunshine day if the shadow from the a-pillar falls across the sensor.the dimming of the instrument cluster display leads to an inability to read the instruments on a bright sunshine day, thus creating a potential safety hazard.from my research on this problem, this seems to be a problem with both the 2003 pontiac vibe and its sister car, the 2003 toyota matrix.toyota has a tsb addressing the problem (el007-02), gm does not have one for the vibe.

Over the past couple years, my battery goes dead when the temperature approaches or goes below freezing. I replaced the battery about a year and half ago because i thought that was the problem. Unfortunately the incidents have continued. I used to keep my car in the garage and the incidents were more limited. I now keep my car outside and the frequency has increased to almost every time the temperature drops below freezing. Such an incident in january 2011 caused my cd player to stop working. December 2011 and january 2012 the incidents continued. I removed the stereo head unit in case that was the source of the problem. The incidents of the battery going dead have continued whenever the temperature is around or below freezing.

Car was purchased new 40 days ago. With only 613 miles driven, car failed to start.driven during the day no signs of any problem. The car was parked for one hour and after that time could not start engine.battery, shift inter-lock wiring looked fine, but starter motor had no power.towed to dealer still awaiting service. Service department said "never had one not start!"*nlm

I have owned my vehicle 20 months, in that time, the headlights have failed 7 times at 3-4 month intervals beginning about 3 months after purchase, usually alternating between right and left.this was not life threatening but it could have been dangerous had it occurred while driving at night.*sc

Whenever the car is parked outside overnight, and the air temperature drops below about 30 degrees f, the headlights turn on with the headlight switch in the off position.this leads to a dead battery and an inability to start the car the following morning.from my research on this problem, this seems to be a problem with both the 2003 pontiac vibe and its sister car, the 2003 toyota matrix.toyota has a tsb on the problem for the matrix (el003-03), gm does not have one for the vibe.

On november 28, 2015 my car died on me while i was driving home from the store. After going through two mechanics, the gm dealer ended up replacing my entire fuse panel. The root cause of what happened was never determined.

Odometer; speed;temp and other gauges cannot be seen in any daylight conditions with or without glasses.*la

My car currently has 225,000 miles on it. 3 times at approximately 70,000, 140,000, and 215,000 miles, my car stalled while driving. The first time was on a mountain road going downhill at 40mph. The second time i had just made a right hand turn at @ 20mph to get on the freeway, the third time i was going straight down a city street at 10mph. In each case, the car just stops while driving and i lose control of the car and steering wheel. The car can be started up after without a problem. My mechanic believes it is a computer issue, outside of that, he can't come up with anything else. No error gets logged on the computer system in the car. This car has a manual transmission and has been maintained over the years very well. I am concerned because i drive a lot of freeway miles and if this occurs while i am in traffic i am sure a traffic accident will occur.

I recently found out from other pontiac vibe and toyota matrix owners that the odometer stops recording at 299,999 miles...this was a factory goof and quite a few people have tried to get with their manufacturer about it and said that it was the owners responsibility to have the problem fixed/odometer reflashed at owners expense...we know that the other vehicles that are being driven today, their odometer can max out at 999,999 miles...in most to all states, it is illegal to alter the odometer in any way and should have correct mileage stated every time we renew our registration, but how can we when their is still alot of these vehicles on the road, but cannot truly address their correct mileage because the manufacturer programmed the odometer incorrectly....please open a case and consider a recall to have the manufacturer fix their problem....thank you

When the engine is started under the following conditions, the interior gear lights do not come on.(1) headlight switch is in the off position.(2) engine is started in the dark (no daylight)when the enging is started, the dashboard lights illuminate but the gear lights (p,r,n,d.l)do not.when the parking brake is released, the headlights come on (even though the headlight switch remains in the off position...this is because of the automatic ligh sensor)but the gear lights do not come on right away.there is a 30-45 second delay for the gear lights to appear.this means i am sitting in the car with the option of putting the car in gear, but the gear indicator lights are not visible.when i purchased the car, the gear lights came on simultaneously with the dash lights.now, there is an increasing delay.i believe eventually the gear lights will not come on at all.to me, this is a safety issue. I firmly believe that whenever the engine is running, the gear lights should be visible.my dealer and general motors tell me that this is normal operation of the car and they refuse to repair it. My sister's 2004 pontiac vibe does not operate this way.

The 2003 pontiac vibe has the worst dashboard lighting of any car i have ever owned. On a sunny day it is difficult, if not impossible to read the speedometer, and odometer due to the faulty lighting. It is a dangerous situation asthe driver has to take extra time to try and read the poorly lighted instruments. As to the incident date below, it happens every time i drive when bright sunshine washes out the dashboard information. I personally have not had any accidents, but the design certainly increases the chance for a driving mishap. I spoke to pontiac officials at my local dealership. They just shrug their shoulders and say that's the way the car was designed. I have spoken to other vibe owners, who voice the same complaint, as well as owners of the toyota matrix, which has the same unsatisfactory dash lighting.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. While driving during the daytime, the contact could not read the instrument panel display. The lighting was adjusted to the highest setting. The dealer diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer wasnotified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 900. Updated 6/3/15

The smoked glass covering the instrument panel makes it very difficult to read the vital information such as speed, etc., on bright sunny days. This poses a severe safety problem for the driver as he tries to read the vital information while driving in any traffic condition. This is an ongoing problem since i bought the car new in 2003. Both general motors in detroit and my local dealer say there is nothing they can do about correcting this fault. The incident date i listed below is when i first notice this design fault after buying the car new from the dealer.

2003 pontiac vibe.consumer writes in regards to vehicle odometer defect.the consumer stated the speedometer froze at 299,999 miles. When the consumer contacted gm, he was instructed to take the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer had a service bulletin, which stated they were aware of the problem, and the cost to fix it, was $830 and gm would not take responsibility for any of the cost. The fix, was to replace the instrument cluster and put a door plaque on that stated the actual mileage.

My 2003 pontiac vibe engine was ruined because it ran low on oil.the oil level warning light never came on (and no other warning light came on either).since i was 3 weeks past the end of the warranty i had no recourse with gm.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.the contact stated that the check engine light illuminated five times.the vehicle was repaired.the contact only paid for one repair because the rest were under warranty.the engine size was unknown.the current mileage is 70,000 and failure mileage was 65,000.

I bought a new 2003 pontiac vibe from a local pontiac dealer back in march of 2003. I use the car as a service vehicle for the company i work for and have kept the maintenance up on it for the past 8 years with great dependability. On 11/17/10 around noon my odometer finally reached the 299,999 mile mark and i waited for it to change over to 300,000 but it never did. I went on line to see if there were any complaints about the issue and found that there was. The only solutions i found were to either have the odometer set back to zero, or pay several hundred dollars to have it replaced. My concern is breaking any odometer fraud laws if i were to sell or trade it in. It should be the manufacturer's responsibility to fix the problem at no cost to me, i feel. I plan on driving the car as long as it lasts. Thanks for your site.

Regarding the automatic headlight sensor -- this sensor is located on the top left side of the instrument panel at the base of the a-pillar.on very bright and sunny days, the sensor turns the headlights on and off because of shading by the a-pillar or state inspection sticker.depending on the angle of the car relative to the sun, this has occurred between 10 and 20 times each day that i have driven the car and occurs at all hours of the day.when the lights go on, the dashboard lights dim making the speedometer and other gauges unreadable.this is a real safety concern since i cannot see my speed under these conditions.the dealer knows of no way to disable this sensor and pontiac has not responded to my e-mails yet.

I purchased this 2003 pontiac vibe for $4000 on 7/27/2013 from 49th street auto sales & repair. This car had incorrect engine installed. Vin: [xxx] was installed when i purchased. Gm dealer verified the engine vin # is from a 2007 pontiac vibe 4 cyl 1.8 l automatic transmission engine. Not a 16 valve 6 speed vehicle. Therefore thermostat sensor can't be attached, temperature sensor for radiator can't be attached, engine light has been disabled and transmission errors can't be corrected.warning ask owner why he this vehicle was advertised to have a 4 cylinder toyota celica gt-s motor installed. Per mechanic ([xxx]) inspection my son was assured by him it only had 900 miles on it. It did notafter $1241.20 in repairs just to make it safe to drive after the axle shaft fell out of the transmission at 70 mph. I'm from michigan and drove this death trap of a car home with intense shaking on front right because axle wasn't even attached. My mechanic had to weld the axle. I have documentation from gm stating this engine should not be installed into this vehicle. Video from mechanic who identified engine vin detailing all problems. I received a refund from this dealer through mediation with consumer protection agency of pinellas county.

Rotten egg smell in cabin of 2003 vibe.the dealer said that gm is aware of issue, but does not have a fix.this smell is unacceptable, we are going to sell the car.no more gm's for us.

When braking the engine would start racing. Dealer has been notified. Ph

Hello my name is [xxx], i bought a 2003 ponitac vibe in dec of 02 since then i have had multiple minor problems with this car. I have been back and forth to the dealership so many times now i think that they think i work there. Since i have had this car i have had three hub caps replaced due to them turning a yellow color (from silver). The passenger seat started to tear in the seams..(i weigh 150 lb i don't think im too heavy)the seal on the drivers side window warped and had to be replaced, now the drivers side seat is starting to tear at the seams and will need to be replaced, the engine is starting to chirp like i have friggin crickets in first and second gear.....i don't know what the heck is going on with this thing but its down right annoying! i love the car its great but the constant trips to the dealer and on top of that they never once have offered to loan me a car while they fixed the defects in their products . This has been an inconvenience to me and my family. I want to know if anyone else has noticed these types of defects in their vibe or if i got he lemon of the bunch. Please respond. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have a 2003 pontiac vibe with 40,000 miles and the engine threw a rod. The dealership claimed that sludge in the oil caused by improper maintenance was the reason the engine failed. I believe this is the same engine that is in the toyota vehicles that had the problem with sludge in the oil. Toyota has agreed to repair engines in toyota's damaged by sludge in the oil. Pontiac stated they will not fix this problem. I beleive this was caused by an engine deect and is not due to poor maintenance.

When the brakes were depressed, the engine idled high. *ph

Strong sulphur odor from exaust, seems worse in the warmer months. Dealer initially said it was the type of gas, but now claims all vibes have the odor and that it is normal for this car! i called customer care at pontiac who called the dealer, and then agreed with the dealer. *mr

During sporadic times, the inside of the car will start smelling like rotten eggs.there is no correlation to how long we have been in the car or a certain speed.the smell will come and go.sometimes the smell is noticeable from the outside of the car once we have stopped at our destination.dealer says that this is normal for this car.

The consumer indicated that thecatalytic converter produced hydrogen sulfur that caused a rotten egg smell.the odor then entered the cabin of the vehicle through the air vents and made the occupants sick.the manufacturer denied there was aproblem. *sc

Pontiac vibe 2003 presents "rotten egg" smell. This is hydrogen sulfidegas, which can be harmful, even deadly. Smell gets inside the driver's cabin via a/c.

After having the recall done on my 2003 vibe, for the replacement of bolts in the power window mechanism. In august i again began experiencing loud cracking noises and screeching upon operation of the windows. I was told to return to the dealership that performed the recall to have it checked. They examined the windows and the mechanics heard the noises but weren't able to determine a cause. They lubricated the mechanism, for which i had to pay,and said i should not have any further problem.however, if i did have any more trouble the cost would be my responsibility.i used the windows very little because i had no confidence in the repair.i began to hear the noises again. Yesterday, upon returning from taking my mother to her heart specialist, i stopped near our mail box. My mother opened the passenger side window about 2/3 of the way. As she started to reach through the opening, to the get the mail, the window exploded. I say exploded because the force at which it shattered was so great the it threw glass onto the roof of the car. Fortunately no one was hurt. My mother was covered in glass, as was the passenger side of the car. Glass also hit mydaughter who was in the back seat.

Pontiac vibe 2003 has a very poor a/c system, not capable of cooling the vehicle's interior when external temperatures are around 90f. Also, the a/c system presents an annoying hissing noise when the a/c is operating.

Dash lights go outthen come back on after a period of time

I have complied with the recalls on the airbag for this vehicle. After we got the last recall on this vehicle completed, about 3 weeks later the warning light for the airbag came on and does not go out. The owner manual tells me this is a danger and the airbag could deploy at any time. After researching i found multiply vehicles with the same issue.i took it back to them and they told me it was nothing they did.now they want $1000 to fix the issue.sound bogeys to me>i do not have any photos but i do have my paper work

Every several months both headlights (right and left) burn out at the same time. This has effected only the low beams so far. When the bulbs are replaced, they work fine for several months.

Numerous complaints have been documented by nhtsa regarding inability to read the instrument panel in bright sunlight on early model pontiac vibes.re: 567158, 767385, 10005009, 10034473, 10056016, etc. I am unaware of any solution being offered by gm for this obvious design flaw which should be classified as a safely issue.

Automatic headlight sensor is mounted on left side dash.shadows caused by left side roof pillar and/or texas inspection and registration stickers cast shadows over sensor at certain times of the day and orientation of the sun causing headlights to turn on with resultant dimming of dash lights and instruments to an un-readable level.the effect is quite shocking and leads the driver to initially believe that the car has lost all electrical power.dealer has indicated no known fix has been identified.a similar sensor on my buick rendevous is located in the center of the dash where shadows don't present such a problem.

-the contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.while traveling at night the contact noticed that the headlights of his vehicle became progressively dimmer. On further inspection he realized that the plastic cover on the headlight was becoming clouded. The dealer stated that the failure was in the lens it's self and tired to buff the lens clear to no success.the dealer stated that they would sell him new lens at a cost of $100.00 apiece. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 133,981. Updated 4/25/08

Automatic headlights turn on in daylight - can't see dash.in the morning and evening when the sun is low and in your eyes, i wear sunglasses like most drivers.the automatic lights come on and dim the dash making it impossible to see.you can fiddle with the dash intensity and read it again, but it is annoying to do this all the time.the radio stays dim and is unadjustable by the dash intensity lights, making it impossible to see.you have to move your head to funny angles or remove your sunglasses to see the radio.i feel fiddling with the dash lights and/or removing your sunglasses to operate the radio are distractions to the driver and increase risk of accident.the dash lighting on the vibes is critical as it is because the dash lights must stay on all the time.this is because they are in a tunnel and you can not see them, even in bright light, without the dash lights on.couple in the fact that pontiac uses red backlighting for the dashboard and the dash gages are already at a sight disadvantage.throw in a touchy light sensor that turns on your headlights (and dims the dash) and it is not a good situation.the sensor is too sensitive and i noticed complaints on forums such as genvibe.com and matrix-vibe.net that make mention of the same problem.sensor should be disactivated or replaced with less sensitive type.i have a 2000 pontiacmontanna with automatic lights and it works flawless.only comes on at dusk.never comes on with a low sun (dawn, dusk) shinning in your eyes. Please note that my light sensor in my vibe is in the upper left corner of dash and it is not blocked in any manner.this location seems stupid for a light sensor also, as shadows from the a-pillar make it come in of the sun is blocked from the a-pillar.keith nelson

Automatic headlight sensor is too sensitive.

Have had to replace headlamp bulbs (either right or left) 3 times within the last year.i have bought the more expensive ones thinking that the cheaper bulbs were the problem and it is still doing it.have had 2003 vibe since november 2002 and have 125,000 miles on it.first set of headlamps lasted 2 years.

Chronic problem of overly sensitive "automatic" headlights turn on during daylight hours making instrument panel lights unreadable.

2003 pontiac vibe.vehicle has a sensor that turns on the interior lights and taillights.these lights are not illuminated until 15-20 seconds elapse.i noted my wife driving away with headlights but no tail lights after she started the car after sunset.the tail lights came on as she was two blocks down the street.i believe this is a very danger design flaw that should be corrected immediately.thanks

Consumer has problem with the fuel line.dealer notified.there was an engineering design problem on the pontiac vibe and the toyota matrix. The fuel fill tube hose was connected to an opening inlet at the bottom side of the fuel tank. *scc

Smell of gasoline in passenger compartment. Took vehicle to a mechamic, he said, fuel rail was leaking.do not know operating fuel pressure, fine spray could cause engine fire, possible after this many miles, metal fatige, this could happen to all vibe's mechanic has not given full evaluation of trouble. Which parts needed.

Began noticing strong gas smell in garage, took car to shop to check what was thought to be a gas line leaking and was told that the tank was full of rust and rotting. I had them replace the tank with a used tank and took the rotting tank home with the thought of placing a complaint with gm. The repair shop said the rotting was highly unusual on a tank that was only 5 years old. Gm refused to look at the tank and offered oil changes, saying this could happen because of the winter conditions that we drive in. My 2 year older aztek sits next to it in the garage and tank looks much better.

Vehicle cannot be refueled in a normal and safe manner.pump nozzle cannot be inserted into filler neck while refueling.doing so, results in an immediate back up of fuel in the filler next and spillage on ground and on individual.pontiac says it is a known problem with no resolution.this makes car nearly unusable and presents both a health and severe safety hazard.dealer reports no fix known at this time.

I own a pontiac vibe, purchased new in 2003. Shortly after purchase i noticed how difficult it was to read the red lighted instrument panel on sunny days. The speedometer numbers and odometer readings are sometimes washed out on sunny days. I recently took a four thousand mile trip through the southwest, and was very concerned over my inability at times to read how fast i was going on the speedometer, and how far i was from my destination due to the difficulty reading the odometer. Trying to read this information going at speeds up to 75 miles an hour was very nerve-wracking and dangerous. The service personnel at my local pontiac dealer said there is nothing they can do to increase the lighting on the instrument panel, adding, nobody else has complained about this. I have seen, however on one website, several complaints about this troublesome dashboard design. I am currently stuck with the vehicle and am still making payments on it. It is a nice car, but pontiac need to redesign this instrument panel before someone is seriously injured or killed. It is the most unusual, and unsatisfactory instrumentation i have seen on a car, and i have been driving for over 56 years.by the way, i pass my illinois driver's license vision test without the need of glasses. Thanks for reading this.sincerely:

I own a 2003 pontiac vibe gt. There is a constant problem with the visibility of the instrument panel, during sunny times wearing sunglasses and during morning and evening hours when the light sensor turns on the headlights and dims the panel lights.i shouldnot have to struggle to read readily available information such as speed!i can't avoid driving my car in certain lightning conditions.

Dt*:the consumer stated the dashboard lights were not bright enough during bright sunny days.the gauges were digital and unable to be read.the dealership and manufacturer determined there was no repair available since this is how the vehicle was manufactured.updated 2/28/2006 -

March 12, 2011 the main hood latch failed to maintain a latch lock on a 2003 pontiac vibe while vehicle was merging on a highway and the safety catch failed to "catch" and the hood opened.this action prevented the driver from seeing the road. Fortunately the vehicle was brought to a safe stop.

I am wondering if there was a complaint on any other vibes 2003. As i was on a trip to ky. I went to open my back door on the passenger side and heard something fall inside between the door panel,i cant open the door from the outside but can open it from the inside. I already received a recall notice for the bolts on the front door of my vibe and was wondering if this will end up being an issues and if it will be cover under the recall notice.please let me know what i need to doty, miss mahady

2003 pontiac vibe.power door locks will lock on their own and cannot be over-ridden either manually or with key fob.a person inside the vehicle cannot exit.

While driving home on the expressway (during rush hour) at around 65 mph there was a sudden extremely loud noise.i had no idea what this was and looked around the vehicle and discovered that the sunroof had completely shattered.it being michigan and in the 30's it has been closed the entire season.i was not driving near or under an overpass at the time so i do not believe anything was dropped on it. After searching online i discovered i am not the only one who has had this happened to them.the vehicle was involved in a safety recall (07273) with the driver and passenger windows as they would suddenly break as well.this service was completed.could this be related?

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.the contact stated that the rear brakes would not adjust and that the vehicle only stopped using its front brakes.the dealer was unable to offer any assistance.the vin and speed were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 75,000. The consumer stated the front brakes were excessively hot.the consumer stated the brake drum fell off in his hands when he removed the production tab off the left rear wheel. The rear adjuster was closed tight.the consumer stated the rear brake mechanical adjuster is inoperative. Updated 09/18/07.

While leaving a stoplight, the transmission broke and locked up both front wheels/axles completely stopping the car and making it not movable except by a wrecker truck.

Just leaving for a trip from michigan to tenn. Driving 70 mph on i-75 south when coming down a steep over pass, i heard rattling in my engine and thumping. This is a very dangerous spot on i-75 with many trucks traveling at high speed coming down from this overpass. My first thought was, it was a flat tire. When i barely coasted to a semi-safe spot my daughter got out and said the tire is not flat. I shifted my manual transmission 6 speed vibe gt into 1st gear let off the clutch only to find it didn't respond. Upset because i had just become unemployed 3 mos prior and voluntarily returned my 2012 chevy sonic back to the credit union. Withdrew what i had in my 401k to purchase this vehicle to ensure transportation that was paid in full only 6 weeks ago. I have seen many complaints regarding transmission failure with this year pontiac vibe. I believe this needs to be investigated instead of allowing the consumer to absorb the cost of this repair which is an obvious flaw at the manufacturer level.

2003 pontiac vibe 5-speed manual transmission. Bearings failed resulting in grinding noise. Mechanic says this could've resulted in catastrophic lock-up of transmission leading to a serious accident at highway speeds. Please don't wait for someone to be killed before investigating this problem. It seems to be endemic to pontiac vibe and toyota matrix 5-speed manual transmissions.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle will not accelerate at all, working very hard to shift into any gears.it appears to be the accelerator pedal assembly that is the defective part.car isn't drivable due to not being able to pick up and go.no indicator lights have appeared on the dashboard.

2003 pontiac vibe. Has a toyota engine and transmission. My wife and child were traveling down the road when the transmission suddenly quit pulling in the middle of the roadway, with no warning. The complete failure left them stranded in a heavy traffic flow location where a collision was probable. Neither were injured and a collision was avoided. After research on the web i found a lot of similar stories reported in regard to this problem with the toyota transmissions.

The vehicle had not been taken to an authorized dealership for inspection and the contact had not called the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The contact referenced recall 02v074002 (power train:axle assembly) as he believed that it was related to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. The current mileage was approximately 134,800.

I have a 2003 pontiac vibe gt.i experienced clutch slippage/failure at 30,000 miles.i contacted gm (file number 1-357754321) and explained that i took the car to gm dealer and was shocked to find that a) my clutch needed to be replaced at 30,000 miles and b) it was not covered under warranty as it is considered to be normal "wear and tear".the cost of the replacement was roughly $1400 and when i complained to gm i was told, very nicely, that it was "up to my discretion as to whether or not i approve the diagnostic ($700) and subsequent repair" .of course, not repairing the problem could result in a safety issue as the part becomes more worn.i have encountered several vibe gt owners who have experienced similar problems ... On your web site alone, 5 of the 15 postings regarding the vibe complained of similar problems.another site http://forums.genvibe.com/ has several postings that address the above problem.i firmly believe that this is flaw in the design of the vibe clutch and could potentially become a safety issue if the clutch fails on an inexperiencedand/or unaware driver ... Given the fact the gm markets the vibe to college age students this scenario is very likely.i am an experiencedmanual transmission driver, having owned 3 (including the vibe) and this is the first time that any of them have needed a clutch replacement before 80,000 + miles.

My clutch has been acting up with a strong burning odor since june 2004 around 32,000 miles. It now has 53,000 miles and it constantley slipping.on june 26th 2004 genvibe.com had a meet at joseph pontiac in fenton, mi.jeff strausser, the vibe brand quality manager, came to the meet along with 7 other gm nummi engineers.i have photos to prove it, there posted at genvibe.com!jeff strausser admitted at the meet gm knew there is a problem with the clutch failing in the vibe gt models and he was in contact with toyota trying to resolve the issue. He also told me when my clutch goes out he would take care of it.i informed jeff strauser my warranty was running out, he stopped me and said don't worry about we knows there's a problem, i'll take care of it.jeff strauser has been recently promoted to another model, and now gm refuses to admit to any issues, or to cover it the repair.but they'll fix it for $1,400.00.many people are having the same issue or have had it replaced, many more people will have this same issue until they change there flawed designed parts. Why should the consumers have to pay to fix there defects.this is a safety issue and if something happens to anyone in my vibe gt, we'll let a jury heard about it.

Clutch failure at 39,980 miles.

Clutch slippage/ failure @ 27k miles especially when maneuvering difficult traffic and neighborhoods with the increasing instance of smelling clutch particularly in reverse into a driveway.problem was rectified before critical failure with a center force dual friction clutch.there was some concern that my tempor may have over bought, but i could not have been happier.

2003 vibe with 33k miles.clutch failed.having new clutch assembly installed.why would a car with only 32k miles need this?thank goodness my dealer is covering the repair.

Clutch began slipping in fall 2004. I purchased vehicle in december 2002 with 325 miles on it. Sold to me as new with full bumper to bumper warranty, that of course excluded brake pads and clutch liner.idriver with almost 30 years experience ofmanual transmission.this is my 4th vehicle with manual transmission. Took vehicle to dealer after being advised in march 2005 that vehicle couldn't pass ny state inspection due to clutch problem.inspector would not even hook it up to machine. Of course dealer service said they never hearda noise or any vehicle needing clutch replacement at 30000 miles. They would not absorb cost, and i had to replace to the tune of $1300.00after their generous discount of 10%.after i complained about original quoted price of nearly $1500.00.i say this, without sarcasm, they were very nice, just wouldn't allow warranty coverage. It should be noted that when i first purchased this vehicle it was after having a different one overnight that i drove off the lot with less than 15 miles on odometer that exhibited problems shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear.dealer tried to say it just needed an adjustment, but i refused to keep the car, and had service manager at that time check vehicle.he admitted that it was a defective transmission problem, and the dealership replaced the vehiclewhen i refused repair.that service manager is no longer with that dealership, so i had no way to collaborate this information without going back to sales.i am halfway through a four year lease.did not drive much between novemberand february2003 as i have another vehicle.

Clutch slipping and is nearing failure.vehicle only has 15000 miles.appears many are experiencing premature clutch failure with the 6 speed transmission.

I'm filing a complaint about insufficiently engineered clutches in pontiac vibe gts/toyota matrix xrs.my girlfriend (who's name the car is under) and i have a 2003 pontiac vibe gt that we purchased new.we're both experienced stick drivers, and have driven the car conservatively, but by 10,000 miles the clutch started slipping.our dealer claimed that it wasn't possible that it was slipping.it started lightly, but the clutch was completely gone by 12,000 miles.now in the shop for replacement, we've been inconvenienced by days of having only one car (no loaner car if they think it's your fault), and also have been informed that this repair will not be a warranty repair because it's our inability to drive a manual transmission properly that has resulted in the premature wear.i have many years with standard transmissions, and have never known an abused clutch to go as fast as this one did.

Bought car with 500 miles, could easily slip manual clutch and result in 'burning smell'. Could easily slip clutch anytime after purchase. Around 24k miles clutch has hard time holding in gear, very easy to slip clutch. At 26k miles, clutch no longer holds uphill in high gear. On way to honeymoon the clutch slipped at speed with cruise control causing the car to jump to red-line on the tachometer for several seconds before i manually cleared the cruise control.many other people have reported the clutch on this car (2003 pontiac vibe gt) to be highly problematic with a short life-span. Gm would not cover the clutch and called it 'user wear and tear', even though many other people have this issue, and those same people have had cars whose clutches have lasted 100k+ (including myself). Dealer charged $600 to replace clutch (labor), and wanted another $800 in parts, which were found for around $150 elsewhere.gm knows the clutch in the vehicle is defective yet does nothing about it, and it continues to be a problem on newer models, as well.

Pontiac vibe gt 6 speed transmission inferior or defective, from the show room to 20,000 mile the car shifted funny and rev. High service said it was fine and then i had to pay for a new clutch at 20,000 said that i burnt the clutch up and the warranty did not cover the clutch. You will see alot of customers with the gt with the same problem.

The clutch started to slip so i took it into the dealership and was informed i would need a new clutch and plate.asked would not this be covered by the warranty because i have only 47,000 miles on the car.i was informed that the clutch is a wear and tear item so it would not cover it, even though the clutch should not of worn out this fast.the mechanic agreed with me on this issue.in order for this to be repaired it cost $1000 for the labor, clutch, and plate.

Hydraulic clutch failure on vibe gt (6speed manual) at 32,000 miles.flywheel requires extensive resurfacing according to dealer.dealer has declined to cover repair under warranty, claiming this is normal wear on a 15-month-old vehicle.clutch began exhibiting symptoms of difficulty as early as 10,000 miles, but no one would believe us.i have driven manual (hydraulic and cable) for 20+ years, and this is not normal wear.

2003 pontiac vibe gt - replaced clutch once and dealership after 25k miles they told me it was normal wear and tear.10k miles later it needs to be replace again.

Clutch slippage / failure -- at 43,000 miles (bought used certified at 30,000).huge number of same problem listed on matrixowners.org and vibematrix sites.drove 1984 honda accord 115,000 miles with no clutch replacement -- not an operator problem.dealer wants to charge $1200 for replacement clutch.

2003 5 speed trans went out at 103,000 miles after i was told was due to faulty bearings.

With no advance warning, manual transmission catastrophically failed on interstate highway.vehicle jerked to stop and was unable to be driven.mechanic found a broken transmission drum requiring complete transmission repair.

Trans went out again, this time after 55,000 miles. Currently 158,000 miles on car and have to replace with a 3rd trans.

We have a 2003 pontiac vibe with the standard 5-speed transmission.routine maintenance was performed (by myself, not the dealer).transmission had to be replaced at roughly 82,000 miles.yes, this really ruined our christmas in 2006 as it happened on christmas eve with my wife and (then) 2 year old daughter in the car.yes, it really stunk that it was just enough out of warranty to not give us any protection.here's a funny thing, though, that i thought was interesting.when we went to get the car after being repaired (at a little country garage in the middle of nowhere) the mechanic told us that he had the exact same problem the previous month with another pontiac vibe with the 5 speed transmission.strange coincidence in a town where the population is less than 2000, i think. What are the chances?we had the transmission replaced to the tune of $3000 and still have the old one- thinking that it was just a matter of time until a recall was placed on this faulty transmission.

While driving my 2003 pontiac vibe on the freeway the manual transmission froze up causing sudden deceleration and the engine to die.i briefly loss control of the vehicle and narrowly avoided an accident before getting the car to the side of the road.the dealer inspected the transmission and described it as a catastrophic failure of the transmission.this transmission failure issue is apparently a known issue with 2003 transmissions made by toyota in pontiac vibes and matrix.

2003 pontiac vibe 5-speed.transmission bearings failed, causing the transmission to grind itself up and strand the car.fluid changed every 30k miles.first transmission died at 70k miles and the second one now died at 110k miles.third transmission getting installed to correct a faulty design.buying a brand new one this time and it has cost me thousands of dollars so far.

Catastrophic transmission failure on 2003 pontiac vibe (5 speed manual transmission) resulted in difficult vehicle control while pulling to the side of i-95. Mechanic diagnosed as due to faulty bearing in transmission. Correlates with many reports in online forums of same vehicle having transmission failure at approximately 100,00 +/- 20,000 miles.

Clutch on 2003 pontiac vibe gt burned out at 52,000 miles.parts were not covered under warranty.after 2 weeks at dealer for repairs, i picked the car up and it was not shifting properly.returned car to dealer.the second clutch they installed in car was defective.the third clutch was ok, but car is still not shifting correctly.called pontiac about the problem.they said i should check with the dealer about any problems with transmissions.the dealer said that they had no factory warning about the problem.clearly there is a problem with the clutch fly wheels.

A slight noise was detected in the vehicle.the noise worsened over the course of a 800-mile trip.the nose was a rhythmic sound that was detectable when the transmission was in gear.the car was towed to a transmission repair shop for diagnosis and repair.the mechanics were familiar with similar problems on this model year car with this transmission.upon inspection, they found a cluster shaft bearing was destroyed.we were lucky and had stopped driving the car soon enough that there was no collateral damage in the transmission.had we continued to drive the car, it is likely the bearing would have been totally destroyed sending balls and fragments into the transmission.ultimately, this could have caused extensive damage to internal components of the transmission which, in a worst case situation, could have caused the transmission to seize.had the transmission seized while traveling at highway speeds, a crash would have been likely.once the damaged cluster shaft bearing was found in our transmission, it was replaced with a new part.the transmission was reassembled and returned to service.

Grinding noise began to occur under vehicle. Upon investigation in online forums, many other toyota matrix and pontiac vibe owners had the exact same experience resulting in totaltransmission failure caused by a defective main shaft bearing.

Pontiac vibe with about 80,000 miles. I was driving at about 35 mph when the transmission seized causing the front wheels to lock and the car to loose control temporarily. Luckily no injuries due to lack of speed and traffic situation. I made several complaints to general motors, and they made no offer to fix the problem. The local gm dealer wanted $3500 to do the repair. I did not have that money, so i opted to by a used transmission and have a local shop install it for a total of $1300. I do not have the broken transmission anymore. I now have about 140,000 miles on the car and the transmission is seized again. I have not repaired the vehicle. My concern is that someone is going to be killed as a result of on of these transmissions seizing and causing the car to loose control into oncoming traffic. I have heard of many other people with the same issues. Please act before someone is seriously hurt.

Consumer called complaining about the transmission also describes that while the gear is on park the vehiicle will roll. Dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Mr

I have a 2003 pontiac vibe gt and am experiencing a manual transmission problem. I have noticed a rattling/grinding noise coming from the gearbox that began at approximately 13k miles. The noise sounds like a grinding sound or something loose in the gearbox on decelerating or constant speeds in first, second, third and forth gears. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the grinding/rattling noise goes away. The noise can be replicated by keeping the engine speed at 1600 rpm'si sent a fax to the service manager of parks automotive group, inc on 09/23/2003 describing the gearbox problem in detail and i spoke with him via the telephone. He assured me the problem would be addressed. I brought the vehicle to parks automotive group, inc on 09/24/2003 at 0740 hours. The service department at 0945 hours contacted me and they stated they found the problem and it was fixed. The service rep stated the problem was with a loose clip. The service manager stated they found cargo fastner clips in the rear cargo area that were the cause of the noise. The service manager stated they heard the noise from the gearbox when the car was in neutral and it was normal. The service manager stated the vehicle was test driven by two people after the cargo fastner clips were removed and the noise was gone. I spoke with a pontiac customer service representive on 09/25/2003. The service rep contacted the service manager in regards to the problem and was told the same diagnosis. The service rep agreed with me their diagnosis is not logical for a noise coming from the gearbox. The noise was not caused by cargo fastner clips located in the trunk. In regards to the cargo fastner clips they have been removed since september 2002; the clips screw into a rail on the floor of the trunk and come with straps to secure cargo in the trunk.since picking up the vehicle from parks automotive group, inc on 09/24/2003, the noise from the gearbox still exists and nothing was repaired by the dealership.

My 2003 pontiac vibe manual transmission failed at 58,000 miles.the car started making a clunking noise.two blocks later it came to a dead stop in the middle of an intersection and could not be pushed out of the way.this is a potentially fatal problem if this had happened on a highway.pontiac will not acknowledge a problem.this is the same car as a toyota matrix.there are many, many incidents of both matrixes and vibes with manual transmission failures at low mileage.

2003 pontiac vibe with manual transmission failure. Consumer stated that the transmission failed in the middle of the intersection. She would like reimbursement because a used transmission will cost her about $2,000.

My 2003 pontiac vibe (toyota matrix sister vehicle) tranmission failed.after researching this problem, i discovered this is a very common problem related to a defective output bearing in many/all 2003/2004 vibe/matrix vehicles equiped with 5 speed manual transmissions.this is not is not a high volumn vehicle or common configuration but discussions on the internet lead me to believe toyota and gm are ignoring a major (expensive) vehicle recall incident.please investigate.thank you for your time and assistance.

While on vacation 900+ miles away from home, my friend reached over to buckle the seat belt on the passenger side of my 2003 pontiac vibe (i've owned for 2 years) and the entire latch apparatus came off, leaving nothing there but a thin black cord.ireally thought she was joking, until i got into the passenger seat myself and tried to buckle it.there was nothing left to buckle the belt into.i know that things break on an automobile but the seat belts are something that you hope you can trust when your life depends on them. There was no previous problem known with this belt latch, and as a single person with no children, the passenger belt is not even used frequently.fortunately, we did not have an accident during this 3,000 mile vacation, but anyone in the passenger seat was without the protection of a seatbelt.i am getting ready to call the dealership and/or contact the manufacturer to see if they will fix this.i am sure they will fix it but at my expense.this is obviously a huge safety problem. A minimum consequence would be that i could receive a ticket from police for the passenger not using the seatbelt and the worst consequence would be that the unbelted passenger could be killed in an accident.this defect is worthy of further investigation!

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact stated that the driver's seat belt failed. The contact was unable to fasten the seat belt. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The seat belt was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 110,000. Updated 09/29/16*ljupdated 10/04/16.

Buckle came unlatched and latch will not lock at all

Dt*: the contact stated while driving around a corner the vehicle collided with another vehicle which resulted in a frontal impact.the driver's side air bag did not deploy.also, the driver's side seat belt did not restrain the occupant.injuries were sustained.the vehicle was not inspected to determine why the air bag failed to deploy. The manufacturer has been informed. There are police reports.

The rear outboard shoulder belts constantly tighten.the occupants have to constantlyrelease the seat belts in order to losen strangle hold.the consumer was told by the manufacture that "this is a safety feature.please describe details

The problem experienced resulted in a crash, although the experienced problem has happened intermittently and is difficult to predict when it will happen.there is a loss of power steering and brakes (seems like a hydraulic issue?).the engine doesn't cut off.you can restart the vehicle and steering feel is restored.when power is lost to the steering wheel, the vehicle is difficult to steer.not sure if this is related, but occasionally, when coming to a stop with the foot on the clutch, the vehicle also stalls, and then of course, you lose all power.unfortunately, we had a slow speed crash while my son was driving this week where this very infrequent, intermittent problem occurred.this is a 2003 pontiac vibe gt purchased july 31, 2002.the experienced problem has happened only a few times over the almost 90,000 miles but unfortunately for us, the power steering failure this time resulted in a crash.when this happens, the engine generally does not stall but you are put in a very scary situation.

I was driving my 2003 pontiac vibe in cleveland, oh when the brakes and steering suddenly went out on the vehicle.i had no indication whatsoever that there was a problem with my car.this resulted in an accident.the police agreed with me that i was not at fault and it was the vehicle.i was not cited.

Date below is just winter. Seems to be the same problem as the 2009-2010 toyota matrix brake freeze up problem i own a 2003 pontiac vibe 1.8l engine and for the past 2 years in really cold weather my brakes take extreme pressure to apply the pedal to stop for the first few times after sitting outside when i leave work. The car is garage kept the rest of the time and i do not have a problem. I had previously called the dealer, no info or solution could be found. I did call toyota this past week to see if the recall fix would help in my case but was told no technical help available through them but to call the dealer which hasn't helped in the past. My feeling is this problem goes back further than 2009 my and back to at least 2003. If it wasn't for heavy foot pressure and no traffic in front of me i'm positive there would have been an accident. Please investigate if this brake problem is on file for the earlier vibe / matrix freeze up problem prior to 2009 my. I find it very dangerous. Regards, greg kirchner

Fast acceleration occurs when brakes are depressed. The dealer said the problem was determined that the gas pedal was to close to the brake pedal . *mr

The windows didn't "wipe" clean of the rain drops when the consumer rolled them down.*phthe rubber window guards at the bottom of the window did not wipe the window when the window was rolled down.this condition caused poor visibility out of all four windows. The vehicle is still covered under it's 36000 mile two year warranty but the dealer refused to provide any assistance.

I noticed my vehicle does not handle well at all in snowy weather. In 4 inches of snow i got stuck three times and finally just had to stay home. I took my vehicle to my dealer and asked about this and it was stated to me that other people had been complaining about the same issue. I am very dissatisfied by this, if i had known the vehicle handles so poorly i would have never purchased it.

Dt*:the consumer stated the dashboard lights were not bright enough during bright sunny days.the gauges were digital and unable to be read.the dealership and manufacturer determined there was no repair available since this is how the vehicle was manufactured.updated 2/28/2006 -

My 2003 pontiac vibe was involved in safety recall 07273:"the bolts in the front door that attach the window to the window regulator may begin to loosen, resulting in a popping or clicking sound when the window is operated.the glass may shatter during window operation, which could cause possible injury." the date on the recall notice is may, 2008.the window on the driver's side of my vehicle was in fact making a "popping" sound when operated. I first scheduled an appt. With the pontiac dealer (did not include name of dealer here, as instructions state not to include names) on june 20, 2008.my car was in service for 1 - 1 1/2 hours; however, when i received it back from the dealer, the window on the driver's still made the same "popping" sound when operated.the dealer agreed to look at the car again, and i took it back on july 22, 2008. The dealer claims that to fix the "popping" sound, i must pay approximately $230 for a "link" in the door. I do not believe that they in fact did anything at all to repair my car for the safety recall.

While driving, the consumer noticed the sun shine reflected on the dashboard, which resulted in poor visibility.in bright sunlight the dashboard instrument, including the speedometer, engine monitor gauges, and the radio were not visible due to the design and red illumination. *scc

There was a recall to replace bolts that hold the front windows onto the door window regulator of the 2003 pontiac vibe.i had the bolts replaced at the dealer, so the window would not shatter while driving or fall into the door frame.well, replacing the bolts does not prevent this from happening.the window still fell into the door frame anyway and can shatter at anytime.the plastic clips that the replacement bolt screws into breaks easily which results in either the window shattering while driving and/or falling into the door frames.therefore, the recall did not preventthis very unsafe event from happening.please institute a recall for the plastic clips on the front windows to solve the problem that the initital recall was supposed to have addressed, but did not.*ln

Instrument panel is unreadable in daylight while wearing sunglasses.

Dash lighting is very hard to see during bright sunny days. *ph

Recall on pontiac vibe # 07273a, may 28, 2008i own a 2003 pontiac vibe, which has the above recall. The recall consists of defective bolts, which attach the front door windows to the window regulator. The recall states that the defective bolts could loosen and the window may become loose and shatter.the above-mentioned problem occurred to my vibe january 8, 2008, before the recall was announced. The glass did drop out of the track and i brought it to a dealer for repair. The window glass was scratched when the window fell from the track. I have an extended warranty and the repair was completed but the glass was not covered.in early june i received a recall note on the vibe describing the exact problem and brought the vehicle in to have the work completed. I advised the service consultant of the previous repair and showed him the scratch in the glass. He stated that he did not think gm would pay for the glass but would ask the service manager. The manager stated i would have to call pontiac to see if they would replace the glass.i called pontiac (800-620-7668) and was given a case number of (71-637104061). After speaking with five different people over the course of seven days i was advised that gm would not replace the window because it did not shatter. I can provide documents and repair orders on request.

2003 pontiac viber.while driving on the intersatate today at 70 mph no over hanging objects, nocars insight, sunroof explodes, showering glass on us, and startling us with loud nosie.has anyone else experienced this.thanks

The glare from the sun causes poor visibility of the numbers on the instrument panel.

While driving sun glares on the dashboard, causing poor visibility of the speedometer and other controls on the dashboard. Dealer found no problem.

I drove on a main hwy in a more remote location at about 100km when all the sudden i heard a big bang. After collecting myself i realized i could not see forward at all the back mirror was knocked of the windshieldand the side mirrors where marginally usable due to too much water and salt on the roads. We barely missed a big truck that was oncoming. I managed to pull partially off the road to then pull down the hood so i could see where i was going after which i pulled over to the shoulder.a nice person pulled over and tied down the hood so we could drive to the next city to call caa and not get stuck on the hwy in the dark, a safer place to be. We made it, but we could have hit the oncoming truck just as easily, we came really close to hitting him head on judging by looking out the side window.this is a possibly deadly flaw in the hood closing mechanism i believe that will some day cost some person there live!! we where lucky. In the end the hood is toast, the windshield is fried and the roof is dented, we also now have a knocking from the engine which was not present before.

Initial recall (#08v162000) for loose window bolts conducted in 2008. Recently noticed driver side front door window again loose and rattling when window is part way down (as before with original recall in 2008).concern is the window glass could become disengaged from lifting track and shatter resulting in distracting the driver and possible accident.

Drivers side window pops when going down air recirculation lower motor not operating properly does this all the time itseems like the window is going to shatter

Took my car for three recalls at herb chambers in warwick they kept me there for hours in did none of them then told me they would call the next day and i haven't heard from them it's been over a week.

I'm the original owner of this 2003 pontiac vibe. The front hood and the whole roof of my car has all of it's paint almost gone.the rest of the cars paint is good but not the front hood and whole roof. Thank you

Driver side window became stuck and shattered when trying to get it back into position.

Vehicle is only 7 months old and has already begun to rust on and around the ''vibe'' emblems.

This dealer is trying to sell this dangerous vehicle again! .49thstreetautosales.com/view/1427/tan-2003-pontiac-vibe-in-clearwater-flinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2003 pontiac vibe gtupon deceleration vehicle jerks to the right and shudders violently! very hard to control vehicle. If gas pedal is pressed even slightly or clutch pedal pressed in problem goes away. As soon as clutch is released violent shudder returns. This only happens after driving approx 15 to 20 miles and will continue until vehicle is stopped for a few minutes. Car is currently at pontiac dealer for 1 week no diagnosis or problem found yet. Car does stop for dealer i have rode with them to show them what it does. Dealer says unsafe to drive but doesn't know what is wrong.

The consumer's 2003 pontiac vibe drifted from side to side while driving on the highway.the vehicle did not handle properly at freeway speeds.the consumer would have to constantly correct the steering wheel to keep it in he middle of the lane.the problem would also occur on smooth level roadway with no windy conditions.the tires had also been affected with uneven wearing of the innermost tread on each. *scthe consumer received two expert opinions and their conclusion was the vehicle was chained down too tight during transportationwhich caused the misalignment.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact stated while attempting to engage the brakes for a stop light, the subframe fractured. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the cross member under the engine, to which the driver side lower control arm was attached, fractured. As a result, the cross member needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 211,000.

I donated this car to kera public radio in dallastexas in about march, 2011. Since then i have received notices of the recall of this car, even though i no longer own it. I want to know that the current owner is getting those notices and having the repairs done.

The contact owned a 2003 pontiac vibe. While traveling on a major roadway, a crash occurred and the contact experienced a failure. The contact was transported to the hospital and did not recall the details of how the crash occurred. A police report was filed and the vehicle was destroyed. The contact sustained major injuries including rods in the neck, memory loss, headaches, a huge laceration on the forehead, and became disabled. The contact cannot turn his head to the left or the right unless turning from the waist in which he still has significant back pain from the crash. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Consumer recently rented a vehicle that has a glaring defect in the design of the vehicle.with sun glasses on, consumer was unable to see the instruments on the dashboard, the display is in red and obscured by the dark glasses.consumer has to temporarily lift the sunglasses or take them off in order to tell the speed at which he was traveling, not a recommended maneuver at 65 to 70 mph.

Reference gm recall no. 07273:window regulator bolts:recall repair done in 2008, recall work failed in 2016 and $311 was spent on window regulator assembly and labor.2019/2020 the regulator is failing again.window is rattling, slow to move up and down, including loud scraping noises.this happens in all modes of movement and non-movement.

Noticed a rhythmic noise coming from behind glove box.sound can only be heard from interior.upon inspection behind glove box found that it was coming from the area where the cabin filter is.there is a felt type filter that is mounted up above cabin filter that is moving, but can not find source of problem.

When the consumer applied the gas, the engine started to roar and increased speed excessively. There were three separate incidents that occurred. Once, the engine suddenly accelerated while at a complete stop. Second, when the brakes were applied to avoid rear ending a dump truck, the vehicle accelerated. The third incident occurred when the consumer paralleled parked and the engine went full throttle. As a result, the vehicle surged over the cement parking curb into the low retaining wall. The consumer shifted to neutral and took his foot off all pedals and turned off the ignition, which was the only way to stop the engine.$4298.96 in damage was done to the vehicle.*ph

The problem with my 2003 pontiac vibe started in late december.i exited a state highway and when i got to the bottom to the ramp and started to stop at the traffic light i had trouble getting the vibe to stop.i ws pusing hard on the brake pedal and finally got it to stop and then realized that the engine was racing at high rpms.i quickly put the transmission in neutral and the tachometer showed that the engine was turring at 3500 rpms. It has happened 4 times since then and on 1/31/05 when it did it i was stopping at a stop sign at a busy intersection and this time when i put the transmission in neutral, the enigne was turning at 5,000 rpms.after a few seconds at this rpms the engine will return to its normal idle rpms.i have taken the vibe to the local pontiac dealership where it was purchased new.they attached their computer to the vibe and no message codes appear.they had it for 2 other days and could find nothing wrong with it.i am only concerned that one of these days it willo act up and i will not have enough time to react and will have a collision with the car or person in front of me or whenmy wife is driving it.the dealership states that pontiac motor co has not had any reports of the rpms increasing during braking like my vibe is doing.i am concerned about the sately of my family and others with this serious problem.

When at a complete stop vehicle reaches high rpms and suddenly accelerates.the cause of the problem has not been determined.while parking, consumer shifted to neutral. While in neutral the engine suddenly revved up to 5000 rpm's or so and stayed at this full throttle position for 1/2 a minute. His foot was lightly on the brake when sudden acceleration occurred. Consumer removed his foot off the brake and had the passenger to verify the engine stayed at full throttle with foot on all pedals. Sudden acceleration occurred four times. After the third time, consumer had mechanic to clean/inspect the throttle body assembly and sensors, reprogrammed the power train control module, replace the acceleration cable and disconnect the cruise control. After the fourth incident, consumer had the mechanic to install a monitor to record the electrical conditions for the next incident. No diagnostic codes ever occurred for any of these sudden acceleration incidents.*ph *nlm

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably disabling the brakes. In addition, there was rubber burning from the tires. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,217.

Car was purchased day before. While driving on mar 1stand coming to stop light with brakes applied, car attempted to accelerate. Only hard braking prevented crash. Two hours later with wife in car while braking for stopped car, engine roared violently, all dashboard lightsflashed, smoke poured out of back of car from exhaust and rear tires spinning only hard braking, putting car in park and turning off engine prevented a collision. Car was trying to accelerate rapidly with brakes on.

During normal driving, when you remove foot from accelerator for gradual slow-down car will sometimes have slight to moderate burst of speed.vehicle has been returned for service check and pontiac dealer, before even looking at car, stated, the type of problem described would be very hard to find.i suggested the automatic transmission or the fuel injections, but of course they could not find problem.this problem could cause serious problems or accidents, but no one from dealer seems to be concerned.

While reversing out of a parking space accelerator pedal stuck when attempting to put the vehicle into the drive gear.then, vehicle suddenly accelerated at a high speed, wentinto a brick wall, then through an office window.driver sustained aconcussion/2 broken fractures in the orbit of right eye area, and a sprained neck.the cause of the failure wasunknown. The vehicle was totaled. The consumer has been on medication for high blood pressure since the accident.*tc

When braking my engine revs on occasion. It is called fat foot!! the pedals are to close to each other and both the brake and the gas can be easily pressed at the same time. Luckily i am one of the few that still knows how to drive a manual transmission and all i notice is my tach swing up. Yes the pedals need to be placed farther apart but don't blame the car for something that is your fault.

The glare from the sun causes poor visibility of the numbers on the instrument panel.

2003 pontiac vibe rear power windows will not roll down.the front side passenger windows makes a loud noise when i roll it down even though i did take it to the dealer when it was recalled.

Driver's side window pops when going up & down.it is intefering with the door check link.this will likely break the glass at some point.

Driver window shattered after loud noise. Window shattered in my face. Dealer would not acknowledge gm recall and pontiac has not been helpful. I paid $350 to get it fixed. This was a very dangerous situation on a busy interstate and they don't seem to care their vehicle is defective.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.the contact heard a loud noise after he started the ignition and activated the power window.the vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the failure was related to thedoor check link.the vehicle was repaired.the door glass bolts and window regulator were previously repaired.nhtsa campaign id number 08v162000 (visibility; glass, side/rear) was referenced.the failure and current mileages were 59,626.

Driver's side door glass makes loud snapping noise when glass is lowered.sounds like something will break.took to pontiac dealer, and he reports that i need a new "check link" because it is interfering with the window mechanism.cost is $130 for part and 1hr labor to install.found odi #pe07049 to identify same issue on same make, model, and year of car.

Had the bolts in the window units replaced from previous recall, but did not fix my problem.the drivers side window clicks and pops when being activated up and down.the window will not track right when going up and i have to use both hands to get it into the weather strip.during the bolt recall on the window the dealer said i needed a new window regulator and weather strip.cost around $250.

I read article in the cleveland plain dealer regarding the pontiac vibe front passenger window popping and not going down and shattering.this happened to me.i took the car into a pontiac dealer but they did not acknowledge any other prior complaints?they did call in a glass guy who replaced the window and i paid for it?

Driver side window became stuck and shattered when trying to get it back into position.

Hearing a popping sound at 2 separate times while raising the driver's side window. Have concern that window may bind or break.popping sound has been occurring for the past several months everytime that the windows is raised.window does not show any evidence of damage at this time.

The drivers side front power window shattered while being raised.there was odd noises similar to clicking and the operation seemed impaired just prior to the breakage.the window was replaced in july 2007 and now is making similar noises as before leading to believe that the incident could re-occur.minor cuts to face and hands occurred when the window shattered and in the subsequent cleanup.

Side front windows on 2003 pontiac vibe shattered while raising electric windows. Both sides shattered on separate days this summer. Drivers side caused cuts to face and arms. Both windows were replaced.

2003 pontiac vibe with a recall for power windows. Consumer states that he scheduled an appointment as indicated on the recall. He was informed that the parts wouldn't be available for 3 more days. The consumer stated he experienced the window failure in nov 2007, however his claim was denied, because according to chevrolet, the parts that were replaced, were not the parts covered by the recall.

I have owned this car since 2003, in 2008 i had failure of the power window on the passenger side, it was fixed by the dealer and i was told to return if problems occurred in the drivers side window.yesterday i heard the familiar clunk of the window and know it is the same issue as the recall in 2008.i spoke to a representative at gmc (colin) via email and was told this recall is no longer valid.is this true, i thought recalls were good for 10 years.what to do? pontiac is out of business?

The front bolt that holds & supports the window on the track came loose on both the driver and passenger sides of my car 2003 pontiac vibe. Once the bolt dislodges, the window will come off the track during the rolling down of the window. Rolling up the window with power window option, the window will shatter with a big bang, sending splinters of glass over the driver or passenger.both times that this happen to me, i was driving, luckily i was on a country road with no traffic.

I have a 2003 pontiac vibe and my passenger window has been making popping and clicking noises while being rolled up or down for a few months, then recently it got stuck as it was being rolled back up and it shattered.

2003 pontiac vibe parked, trying to wind up window, drivers side window shattered when 3/4 up. Took it to glass specialist who replaced it ($130.47), then had to go back to dealership as glass was loose ($78).

2003 pontiac vibe driver window exploded in october of 2006.pontiac covered the expense after a fight.they wanted to charge me over $400 to replace the window.i was not injured but there was so much glass all over my car, it was even under the passenger seat.

While parked raised the driver'swindow and it imploded, spraying glassall through the interior and approximately 10 meters outside of the vehicle.cuts were susstained on arms and legs.

Recall notice for 2003 pontiac vibe regarding the bolts in the front and passenger side doors. Consumer has issues with reimbursement. *njthe consumer stated she began having problems with the bolts in the driver side door in 2006. It was causing the window to stick and making clicking noises.the consumer received a recall notice in the mail which stated reimbursement may be possible. Gm informed the consumer she was not eligible for reimbursement since it was already fixed under recall; and gm only pays for repairs once.

In may of 2009 while driving my car on the throgs neck bridge i heard a crash and a thump from the drivers side door.i grabbed onto the glass and held it in place.i was able to lock the window so it would not go down and proceeded on my way.i took it to a pontiac dealership in massachuttes and i was told all damages would be covered because it was due to the recall number 08v162000 the door bolts that hold the window in place broke causing the window to crash and the glass to shatter.i was unable to get the window fixed in massachuttes so i brought the car to the dealership in old westbury, new york.this dealership gm pontiac in hicksville told me nothing was covered except the bolts.i called the pontiac dealership and one person told me that the pontiac will cover the window.the dealership would not take my word for it and called pontiac themselves they spoke with a different individual and they said that it wasn't covered.they then quoted me at 700.00 dollars to get everything fixed.i refused service.currently i have called everyday to see what they mix up is and no one returns my phone calls.

Window made clicking popping noise as it was going up, then exploded.

I just heard about the investigation into the pontiac vibe regarding the front windows.i too have had this problem, it started with the driver's side window and at first it was a popping and cracking nose and then the window just slammed to the bottom of the door.i took my car in to be fixed under my extended warranty and it was.however that didn't stop the problem i have since have had to take the vehicle in 3 different times and every time they had to replace the glass because it had shattered at the bottom. Now the same problem is happening to the passenger's side window.

This evening i put up the passenger window on my 2003 pontiac vibe.when it reached the almost closed point it made a loud pop noise and rattle.i put the window back down to see what happened and when i tried to put it back up it wouldn't go up the whole way.then i drove home w/ the window open. When i arrived home i tried to put the window back down and there was a loud pop and the window just exploded.the glass flew into the car and cut my arm.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.while rolling the front driver side window down, the glass fell completely off track.the contact was able to catch it before it shattered.the dealer replaced the window with sash clips and replaced the window channel with weather strips.the dealer agreed that the repair should prevent this failure from recurring.the contact read about the window failure in a newspaper on february 22, 2008.the vehicle does not have antilock brakes.the failure mileage was 66,484 and current mileage was 67,000.

Driver's side window grinds and pops when it is partially rolled down.i have been researching this and this is a consistent problems with these vehicles.i am taking it to a mechanic before it gets to the point of the glass exploding.this should be investigated further since it could be a potential deadly situation considered their glass could explode at any time while driving.i would like to urge you to encourage gm/pontiac to do the right thing and accept some responsibility for these manufacturing defects instead of letting these costs be passed on to their consumers.

I was rolling up the front passenger window of my pontiac vibe and the glass exploded.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.the contact had her vehicle repaired in june of 2008 according to nhtsa campaign id number 08v162000 (visibility:glass, side/rear).while driving approximately 55 mph, the passenger side front window almost came out of position.the dealer stated that her window regulator failed; therefore, the contact would have to be responsible for the $300 repair costs.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the failure and current mileages were 99,534.updated 07/29/08the consumer stated the recall was perfomred. With no warning car was parked in driveway. Startedthe vehicle and my 11 year old son used the button to raise the power passenger door window in the front and the winodow exploded with ut warning. Son was sprayed in face with exploding glass.thank goodness no cuts.

My pontiac vibe was involved in a recall because screws were becoming defective and causing damage to the window regulator, and broken windows.the local pontiac dealership replaced the screws, put the door back together, and informed me that the regulator was bent.when i took the car to the dealership the main problem was that the window would fall when i would attempt to roll the window down, and put great pressure on the window. They told me that the regulator was my problem, and that it would costs me $300 to repair.although this was the potential hazard leading to the recall. I am ashamed that gm and their dealers have no more concern for the safety of their customers than they demonstrated to me. I very strongly feel that gm should replace the regulator in the driver door of my vibe. Tonight i inadvertently pressed the button that does roll this window down while traveling down the interstate and it very nearly broke because of the undue pressure exerted on the glass.

Both windows shattered on my 2003 vibe.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact stated that the driver's side front window glass bolts loosened and separated from its housing causing the window to separate from the manual window regulator. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the bolts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was also informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 67,000. Updated 2/21/13 updated 6/13/13 the dealer replaced the regulator assembly. Invoice received 06/17/13

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.the contact hears a horrific popping and squeaking sound whenever the front passenger side window is rolled halfway down.in may of 2008, she received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 08v162000 (visibility:glass, side/rear).the vehicle was repaired according to the recall, but the failure recurred one year later with the same window.the dealer stated that they would have to take apart the window to diagnose the failure; however, they would not be responsible for the repair cost.the contact believes that the diagnostic repair should be free since the vehicle was included in the recall.the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 60,000. Updated 08/14/09.*ljupdated 08/17/09/

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.the contact heard an unfamiliar noise while rolling down the front driver side window.the noise sounded like metal rubbing against glass, as if the window was off track.a dealer has not diagnosed the failure, however, it is related to nhtsa action number pe07049.the vehicle does not have antilock brakes.the failure mileage was 38,000 and current mileage was 41,000.

The driver side power window made a clicking noise during operation and would bind up when it got to the top.the left front regulator was faulty and needed to be replaced.

Window on my 2003 pontiac vibe exploded once and brackets broke again after first repair!!!seems the brackets on the bottom of the windows are poorly made/fastened and break, causing uneven lift of the window and "explosion" of the glass.luckily i was at a stop sign when the window broke the first time otherwise i would of crashed from the shock of glass exploding into my face!!! the second time the brackets broke the window just slid down and i had the dealer put it up permanently because it is too much of a safety hazard to fix again......only to have it happen over & over.

No actual failure, yet. However, front passenger electric window clicks when being put down.if the window is part way down it rattles when the door is closed (the driver's side does not). I am submitting this after having read that this problem is under investigation and possible subject to a recall.it has been occurring for several months.

I am contacting as a concerned parent. My daughters 2003 pontiac vibe has had numerous repair problems from a leaking seal around the winshield to a cd player that quite operating. Other problems seem to be more serious and has been explained by a local glass company that has had the opportunity to replace the front windshield twice. This according to them is in the design of the car that when rocks hit the front end they are accelerated towrds the windshield instead of being deflected. These are not my only concerns as back in september of 2004 the passenger side front window shattered as the window was being raised with the eclectric switch that operates the window. My daughter had the window replaced and i contacted pontic customer service in detroit and a jennifer white at 866 942-4368 x47978 began the process of resolving the matter (service request # 1-257036503) and finally reimbursed my daughter for the cost of replacing the window. It was found that the bolts that hold the window in place inside the door had not been installed properly causing the window to bind and shatter. This was the first incident and now the driver side front window has shattered in the same way (service request # 1-314157308) and jennifer white is again the customer service agent handling the case. My ultimate concern in this situation is the safety of my daughter, her new husband( a young man in the u.s. Marine corp), and the unborn grandchild that my daughter is carrying. My concern is even greater after hearing that the service person who just yesterday examined my daughters car, made the statement that he has never seen anything like this before! i hate to tell him but this is the second time it has happened to the same vehicle.

On 8/17/7 my family was pulled over on the side of the freeway because we heard a noise in the front end of our 2003 pontiac vibe. When my husband was rolling up the power window on the driver's side the window exploded. Sometime before that the passenger window had cocked into an odd position and we physically put the window back into place and locked it. We figured the same thing must have happened on the driver's side but this time the window broke. We contacted the dealer and they said they'd never heard of this happening before and they didn't think gm would cover. When we got into contact that following monday, the man from the body shop told me that gm would not cover any costs because it's a glass issue that would normally be covered under warranty. I then asked for the number for gm and contacted them myself. I was assigned a case worker who could not do anything until she spoke with the service manager from the dealer. Three days later i contacted the case worker at gm who told me that they had never heard of this happening before and because we were not covered under warranty there was nothing they could do. She said i should contact the dealer to see if they'd help. The dealer, of course, said there was nothing they could do and we should contact gm . My husband decided to call a different gm dealer and see if they knew anything about this problem. They had dealt with this problem on at least two other occasions and said that it was a problem with the regulator. Searching the internet i've found that many, many other vibe owners have had the same problems . Gm seems to not be taking any responsibility for this defect by covering the costs of repair for those who need them and recalling these vehicles so it doesn't happen to anyone else. What will it take before gm fixes this problem...injury, death?they should be covering the costs of repair and labor for my vibe and everyone else who've had to be inconvenienced by this issue.

2003 pontiac vibe parked, trying to wind up window, drivers side window shattered when 3/4 up. Took it to glass specialist who replaced it ($130.47), then had to go back to dealership as glass was loose ($78).

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact stated that the front driver's side window failed to open properly. In addition, the window would become stuck and was unable to be closed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the regulator assembly needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 129,000.

My car was parked and i was in the driver's seat.i used the power window button to lower the passenger side front window.the window seemed to hesitate/stick.then the window shattered.the parking lot and the interior of my car was covered in glass.the window glass and window motor needed to be replaced.

The passenger side window on my 2003 pontiac vibe jumps out of position when the power windows are operated.i have had the factory recall on the bolts on this window which the dealer did, but when the dealer gave me back the car from replacing the bolts, the window was worse at jumping out of the window and almost broke.i can not operate the window because it jumps out at an angle and makes a loud noise.the dealer said they think the power window regulator on that side broke although it was not that way when we brought it in.it also looks as if the door stop may be hitting the window when the power windows are operated.this window has made some noises or not operated properly off and on since i bought the car new and i brought it in to the dealer a couple times while under warranty, but since the problem was off and on at that time, they could not find the problem.now it happens all the time and so i can not use the window at all.the dealer wont fix the problem as they say they do not consider it as part of the recent recall even though it is the same problem and it is unclear to me if they did the recall fix properly or if they made the problem worse.luckily no one has been injured yet, but if i use the window, someone would be.

Dt:the contact tookvehicle to dealerto have it inspected. Upon inspection they rolled the window down and it shattered. The manufactureragreed to pay for the labor but not the parts to fix the window.

Window explodes, driver side door due to faulty regulator/door link. I read about similar problems in newsgroups as well. This needs to be on record.

This has been an inconvenience to me and my family. I want to know if anyone else has noticed these types of defects in their vibe or if i got he lemon of the bunch. Please respond. The contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe.when the contact pressed the button to roll down the driver side window, it made a popping noise.he stated that the window could possibly crack and break while driving, which he considered to be a safety defect.when the vehicle was first purchased, the driver side window did not work and was repaired by the dealer.the contact now believes the failure may have been part of the defect.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they installed a new window mechanism; however, the failure recurred.the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 51,000.updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07

Own a 2003 pontiac vibe, car runs great, but have had problems with both front windows going up and down, they want to track wrong in the window guide weather gadget and flutter loudly and violently when traversing. Left front door window switchpack has long ago fell apart (the bezel that holds switch firmly in the door panel) this conditionwas always with this car from day 1 of our ownership. Thank you for your time.

While driving, i pressed the button to roll the driver's side window down.window started to roll down and then "exploded", showering me (driver) with glass.i immediately stopped my vehicle on the side of the road.i was cut on my hands while clearing glass from inside my shirt and off my clothing.at this time, shattered glass is inside my door and will need to be cleared out when i have the window replaced.

- the contact owns a 2003 pontiac vibe. The contact was driving approximately 2 mph and the power window glass abruptly released downward inside of the doors without assistance. Also, the failure occurred whenever the windows were locked. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic test. The failure was related to a defective part that secured the window glass. The windows were repaired on two separate occasions. The failure mileage was 79.000. The current mileage was 95,000.

My 2003 pontiac vibe passenger power window "shattered with a loud bang" while being raised. This happen while driving down the road at 55 mph. All passengers were covered with glass but all were lucky and didn't get glass in their eyes or any cuts. It could have also caused an accident causing loss of control.

Windshield is very easily cracked by small stones. Traveling 50mph a small stone was thrown causing a spider crack. Planned to go and have it filled that afternoon but it progressed into a 13in crack. Obtained another stone crack 3 days later in a 35mph zone. The windshield is far too thin and should not crack under small point loads. I hate to see what will happed if -god forbid- the passenger airbag goes off.

Windshield surface too soft, scratches easily.originalwindshield wipers wore a curved scratch in windshield.dealer and pontiac customer assistance for warranty stated itwas my problem. I replaced blades.customer web sites stated thin windshield and soft surface glass wasa problem on pontiac vibe and toyota matrix.

Condensation builds up on the inside of all windows of vehicle while parked for 6 hours. So much so, condensation was running down the inside of the windshield. This problem is unusual as i''ve owned numerous new vehicles in this geographical area. And none has had this amount if any condensation build up on the inside of the windshield. As i''m not sure if this is a valid complaint. Because yes after about 10 minutes of running the defroster the condensation clears. But i can''t imagine what would happen if the outside temperature went below freezing. Would i have a sheet of ice on the inside of my windshield? this is a brand new vehicle; there shouldn''t be any frost on the inside of the windows.i will contact the dealer to see if they''ve had any complaints of this nature or if they have any ideas of the cause. Also this happened in 2003, that year selection wasn''t available via your web site under incident date.thanks
