Air bag light comes on. I'm afraid the air bags won't deploy in case of an accident. I was reading other complains of other owner of the same make and model as my truck. *la

The air bag light remains on, this has been repaird twice and to date the problem reoccurs.nlm

Air bag light stays on.the dealer has repairedintermittent problem7 times in 2 years.mechanic stated that design of cables under t driver's seatwere being dragged, causing them to loosen up.

Consumer stated seat belts behind passenger and middle back seats locked up. They did not work.also, air bag light kept coming on.consumer took vehicle to mechanicto have it looked at, butair bag light still came on.

The contact owns a 1998 pontiac trans sport. The contact stated that when accelerating from a complete stop, the front passenger's side air bag deployed inadvertently and without any impact to the vehicle. The driver sustained minor bruises and swelling to the right arm. The vehicle was in the process of being towed to an authorized dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

The vehicle crossed over the center line striking another vehicle at 50 mph and none of the air bags deployed. *mr *sc

- the contact stated that while drivingthe1998 pontiac transportwith 183,000 failure mileage)at 55 mph the driver'sside front tire blew out without any warning.the contact lost control of the vehicle, andthe vehicle hit a culvert on the left passenger side. Upon impact, the airbags did not deploy.the vehicle was taken to a local service center, but had not yet been repaired.

Drivers side airbag deployed when there was no accident involved.(false deployment).

Airbag light has been coming on since september 1998.steering wheel would make a noise, but dealer could never duplicateproblem.dealer put in a steering gear, and steering pump a couple of times. Please provide any further information.

While traveling and without notice air bag indicator light would stay on throughout traveling, intermittently.dealer was contacted, and technician could not duplicate problem.dealer informed consumer that repairs have been made, however consumer does not feel that repairs have been made.

Abs-anti locking brakes are faulty and light comes on for no reason.also the airbag light comes on intermittently.

While driving at57mph and involved in an accident air bags did not deploy.

While traveling 40-45mph & had "t"-boned another vehicle.air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Both driver & passenger were injured and taken to er. Were treated and released.

While making a turn a another vehicle ran into consumervehicle, and air bags did not deploy at any time.please provide further information.

Where do i start?same complaints as all other pontiac minivan owners.since original purchase in 1998, headlight assembly faulty, abs warning light malfunction, air bag warning light malfunction, and malfunctioning (still) passenger automatic sliding door.recently had head gasket replaced due to antifreeze leak, as well as front left wheel hub.this is the worst (and most costly) vehicle i have owned with respect to maintenance.

Consumer was traveling between 45 and 50 mph and hit another car, and none ofairbags deployed.there were 2 injuries due to accident.

While driving driver passed outandhad a direct frontal impact into a brick building, in whichdriver's and passenger's airbags did not deploy, and did not protect thedriver or passenger in this crash.the front end was totaled. Passenger collapsed and was hospitalized . Driver sustainedfractured thumb and bruised cheek, hospitalized three weeks.

While driving 65mph hit a cow and airbags didnot deploy. There was frontal damage. Also, driver sustained injuries. Dealer contacted.

Vehicle involved in a front end collisonat approximately 35-40 mph. Upon impact, both air bags failed to deploy which caused driver to sustain a head injury from hitting front windshield. Dealer /manufacturer notified.

(1) we purchased a used 1998 pontiac trans sport and discovered the next day that the air bag light stayed on all the time. (2) we are concerned as to why this light flashes when we turn the ignition on while the diagnostic test proceeds and all other lights go out.the air bag light continuesto flash which must indicate something. The air bag light flashes until we start the van and then just stays on but does not flash till the ignition is turned off.we are most concerned what this light means to the safety of driving and the air bags deploying correctly.kenny ross performs an advertised 130 point safety check which they show the customer that indicates what was found and the repairs they performed.we would assume that air bag problems would be pointed out if the dealer checked for the safety of the autos that they sell.this dealership has a very good reputation and is why we felt safe dealing with them.(3) the van was purchased "as is" and the salesman dennis miller has yet to respond to our emails concerning this problem.

I have a 1998 pontiac trans sport, the air bag light comes on all the time. This really scares me, can you help?

While vehicle was at a stop it was rear ended by another vehicle. Whenchild was restrained inintegrated child seat, child was out ofcar seat because seat belt unlatched, not holding child.

Consumer statesthe integrated child seat top latch can be undone if tugged on. Dealer contacted.the replacement ordered had the same defect as the original.pontiac stated the latch is for positioning and is not required to latch securely.*jg

Retainer clip onintegrated seat is very loose and can be moved bychild, who able to get out ofseat.dealer / manufacturer notified, and unable to assist in this matter.feel free to provide any further details on this matter .

We have two built in child safety seats and both of them show the same problem. The buckle that goes across the child's chest can easily be pulled open without using the proper buttons to open it. My one year old can open the buckle and get out of her seat. I have spoken to 7 others with the same vehicle and they have the same problem our children would be unprotected in an accident.

The contact owns a 1998 pontiac trans sport. The contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact mentioned that the abs, air bag and check engine warning lamps illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 105,000. The current mileage was 119,317.

Problem: last fall i noticed that the cruise control would turn off when i used the turn signal?slowly i lost the 'trip computer' then the turn signals would flash quickly when the brakes were applied.i assumed that there was a bad bulb somewhere with the brakes and turn signals.i would also notice that the clock on the radio would dim when the turn signals and brakes were used.long story- short, more and more things seemed to be failing over time.i was starting to think it was related to the alternator. Solution: i pulled the taillights and took a closer look.i pulled the plugs on the top of the lights and i found melted contacts on one of the six contact points.i was going to tin the contact points put that didn't work very well.i took a screw driver and realigned the sockets and scrapped off the melted plastic on the pins.tested the lights and they worked perfectly!all the other problems went away! :)what i find strange is this is the second gm van that i have seen melted contact points either on the plugs or on the sockets of the bulbs.seeing there is n o recall on this i hope this info helps someone else with the same problem!

Failing of air conditioner 2x within a 1 year time frame.resulted in buying 2 new air compressors and parts.left front headlight continues to fog resulting in buying new one every couple of months.constant electrical problems, ie., navigator, windows (rear and front),cd player.had to replace the radiator 2x within 2 month period.this van drives good but it "nickle and dimeing" us to death.i hate it.every month or even every week its always something!!!!!it's hard to make our monthly payment due to all of the expenses we are shelling out for this vehicle.i litterally pray for our van.we have three children and we needed all the room we could get but, i will never own another mini van again.

The contact owns a 1998 pontiac transport.while driving at various speeds, the passenger side automatic door would open and close intermittently.the door would appear to be closed, but when the vehicle was placed into gear, the alarm would sound to indicate that the door was not latched properly.the dealer has not been notified.the bulletin number is 020864011.the current mileage was 100,245 and failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 1998 pontiac transport. The contact exited the vehicle and when he returned, the vehicle was engulfed with white smoke. The contact rolled down the windows to release the smoke. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failure was the result of faulty wiring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000.

Rear doors will not unlock, andhorn will not work when vehicle was off, causing a passenger to be locked inside of vehicle, and was unable to notifybystanders. Dealer notified.

The horn will unexpectedly blow out without manual operation which nearly caused a collision to occur, cause unkwown.please give any further details.

After driving over 200 miles and stoppingvehicle constantly stalles. Vehicle will start back up, but continues to stall. Dealer can't solve problem.

Wiring harness shorted and cut power to fuel pump - vehicle immobilized.

Consumerwas traveling about 65mph onhighway and without prior warningconsumer noticed black smoke coming from underneathvan.he was able to pull over toshoulders. Liftedhood andflames were coming out.within a second vehicle bursted into fire.the vehicle was totaled.dealershipwas aware of problem.

While driving 20 mph consumer heard loud noise, and then the vehicle completely stalled.vehicle was towed toconsumer's home. A mechanic came toconsumer's house to inspect the vehicle, andinformed the consumer that the vehicle has a blown head gasket. Thisproblemcauses the cam shaft to seize.dealer was not notified.

Intake gasket leaking and replaced in january 2005 at a cost of over $600.cam shaft snapped in half in april 2005 resulting in total engine failure and replacement - cost of $3400.this should be recalled by gm and anyone that has had this occur reimbursed.

Total engine failure occurred while driving on highway on vacation with wife and three kids.71000 miles on very well maintained van. We bought it with 8,000 miles on it. No warnings, no noises, no smoke, no overheating. Engine just quit running and we coasted to a stop on very busy interstate. This could have caused a major accident. Dealer promised "at least 50% warranty" then retracted offer two days later pending tear down and diagnosis.diagnosis spun crank bearings/ bent rods due to coolant in oil.cost $2050 after 50% warranty. Two weeks later, told camshaft was broken in half and that our engine could not be repaired. I asked why they didn't know that before. Svc mgr said they just pulled the engine out that day.this was not true since my wife and i spoke with the technician three days prior and he was all but ready to reinstall our engine. The bare block was on an engine stand when we spoke with him.svc mgr then said warranty was in question. I had meeting with mgmt about "bait & switch" tactics. Svc mgr then said pontiac would install brand new "crate" engine for the $2050 we were quoted two weeks prior. No one from the svc dept ever called us about delays or when our van was done.took 34 days to complete repairs. After getting it back, it was discovered that the axle retaining nuts on both sides were only finger tight/ready to fall off. Went back and have them torqued to specs. They wonder why go to a local shop for routine service rather than the dealer. This was the most absurd fiasco i have ever seen.we are seeking restitution.gm should be forced to recall these engines for intake manifold gasket failures as this was determined to be the root cause.

Prob #1 - intake leaking - needs intake manifold gastket replacement. Local dealer will not pay for. Prob #2 - i have lost two headlamp lense covers in the past year - dealer said this happens "a lot!, and that it was probably a problem with the adhesive"i had to replace two complete headlamp assemblies totalling over $200.00

The air conditioning may have never worked, we hadn't tried it until 10 mths after buying the van. The low coolant light came on and we brought the van to a mechanic who said the repair would cost 800.00. He added stop leak, which worked temporarily. The problem has just reoccured and we have not driven the van since. The abs light had come on in august, we have full use of the brakes, just our abs is not working. We can't afford to fix this. In november of 2001, our fuel pump had to be replaced. I was crossing a busy hwy. Here in winnipeg, and the van just died and came to an abrupt halt. I phoned a dealer in winnipeg (vickor chev olds) and the mechanic told me that this happens, sometimes the fuel pump will work for a while and all of a sudden it will malfunction for a couple of weeks. We phoned the used car dealer auto town in winnipeg that we bought the van from and they felt awful, and offered to cover the labor if we paid for the part. The part alone was 400.00

Seat belts "sticking", steering making loud "pop" noises when turning wheel, transmission shifting very hard from park to reverse on a angle.now my engine locked up, was hesitating when accelerating.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and would not restart.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, where it was determined the plastic head cracked and the engine needed to be replaced.

The intake manifold gasket has begun leaking.i am concerned this could contribute to intake manifold failure with the possibility of fire.

Van stopped suddenly on expressway.dealer towed it away and diagnosed problem.he said that cam shaft was seized or broke.all fluid levels were ok.car had no leaks .found no evidence of sludge in the motor.found that van was properly maintained by owner.quoted new engine cost of $4693.

The contact owns a 1998 pontiac transport.the contact stated that the vehicle's intake manifold is leaking internally and externally in between the intake and the block.he has not contacted the manufacturer due to prior issues with the transmission.as a result, the vehicle consumes a large amount of coolant which contaminates the oil.the engine size was unknown.the current mileage is 65,150 and failure mileage was 65,000.updated 06/08/07

After i had the radiator replaced $350 job the intake gasket sprung a leak. Therefore i had to have not only this replaced but the valve cover gasket as well which cost a total of $867. I also had to rent a car for 3 day which cost an additional $30 per day. My mechanic said that the recommended dexcol coolant used in this model car, over a period of time, will eat thru the gasket thus the leak. I need to know if there was a re-call regarding this problem and if i can be compensated. I am a hard working individual with limited resources. I have always maintained regular maintenance on my vehicles not foreseeing this issue that arose. Please get back in touch with me as soon as possible regarding his matter.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While driving on interstate, camshaft broke.problem was traced back to a leaking intake manifold gasket, that over time, had contaminated the oil with orange coolant, causing camshaft bearing failure.after replacing the engine with a used, 60,000 mile, replacement, and driving the van for another 16,000 miles, now the replacement engine is leaking coolant internally, and had contaminated the oil in this engine.obviously it's the same problem, however gm has issued a service bulletin changing the gasket design, and no replacement gaskets are available yet.so, i can't drive it, and can't repair it due to lack of parts.

Vehicle kept over heating. Took it to a mechanic and they changed out thermostat, water pump, temperature sending unit, catalytic converter. Was still over heating. The mechanic checked the engine and found blown head gasket and cracked heads. This problem started out on interstate 15 northbound right outside of barstow, ca. Had to pull over to the shoulder and wait for it to cool down several times so we could get to an exit.

Engine was losing coolant and had a ticking sound when brought into gm dealer.repairs included replacement of head gaskets and intake gasket.cooling system also had to be flushed and refilled.mileage quote above was actually 110927 km and repair costs were can$1965.

While driving at any speed the check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.vehicle hesitated while driving.driver took vehicle to dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the head gasket, valves, and lifter needed to be replaced.

Diagnosed with intake manifold gasket failure on 1998 pontiac trans sport with 3.4 v6 engine. Oil and antifreeze mixed and fixed by dealer at cost of $890. With no assistance from general motors. All to common problems on this engine and the 3.1 v6 with speculation that the dexcool antifreeze deteriates gasket. Could possibly be true since gasket is now made out of a diffrent material. At this time it is imperative that nhtsa forces general motors to recall these engines and reimburse all owners who have paid out of pocket for repairs. This vehicle in question was well maintained and items were changed way above recommended service schedule. Vehicle also developed a rough idle with no obvious cause with possible explanation of internal engine damage. These intake gasket failures could be the reason for numerous engine fires witnessed on the highway. Also i am the original owner. Thank you .

1998 pontiac montana with a gm (generic) 3.4 liter engineevents leading to failure were normal driving conditions and regular maintenance. The failure is the intake manifold gasket. The consequences currently are exterior leaking coolant. The probable future consequence per the dealer, is coolant leaking into the crankcase causing the failure of the crank bearings. Which documented cases have resulted in engine failure while driving which can cause a unsafe situation.what will have to be done is to replace the intake gasket at a cost of $500-$700.

Coolant leaking into engine through intake manifold gasket.

1998 pontiac transport minivan 3.4 liter, coolant leaking fromthe intake manifold.mechanic believes it is a general problem with the gasket.major expense to repair on vehcile with 75,000 miles.

Currently i have 56,187 mile's on my 1998 pontiac trans sport and have been experiencing excessive oil useage since the second year of ownership as well as just recently experiencing the temperature gauge going past the 210 mark despite it only being 60 degrees outside and driving short distances. I have found a numerous amount of complaint's regarding issues comparable to this including a bulletin that was in fact distributed to g.m dealers in canada and the u.s (bulletin # 03-06-01-010) dated march, 2003.titled engine oil or coolant leak (install a new design intake manifold gasket. This bulletin describes comment's from owner's as followed. An apparent oil or coolant leak. Additionally , the comments may range from spots on the driveway to having to add fluid. Cause, intake manifold may be leaking allowing coolant, oil or both to leak from the engine. I have discovered that this has been a well known problem since 1998 but has yet to be an actuall recall on these van's. Many of the complaint's mention coolant found in the engine oil. I have come across several complaint's of motor's having to be replaced in these vehicles due to this problem with the consumer having to endure the costly repair financially. I primarely use my van to transport my 16 year old severely disabled son to and from school with his wheel-chair as well as to dr appointment's. The recent problem's with ticking sound's as well as at times idling rough and chuggling while driving with the temperature gage amping past the 210 mark is not a good sign. At 56187 miles i should not be experiencing major problem's with this vehicle. With the numerous complaint's on this matter being considered i am requesting an investigation that willlead to a very much needed recall on the 1998 pontiac trans sport as well as the other year's that are affected by this major flaw from the manufacturer. *la

The vehicle experienced oil leak.nlm

A well maintained 1998 pontiac transport with a 3.4 liter engine developed a coolant leak.this was diagnosed by a local service center.as they explained that my vehicle has an intake manifold leak, it was also mentioned that they have seen many manifold coolant leaks with this engine.i decided to have it repaired at a gm dealer where i purchased the vehicle.they also explained that they service many of these type of leaks.they explained that the repair calls for a new type of manifold gasket and new bolts.the mechanic even showed me where on the old gasket the failure usually occurs.although it may seem as if these comments where anecdotal, it still appears to point to a general failure in the design of the manifold gasket.this repair was very expensive.why haven't these 3.4 liter been recalled?are only inexpensive manufacturer defects recalled?had this coolant leaked into the engine which in some cases it does, based upon my research of this issue, then even more damage and possibly risk to the vehicle operator and passengers could have occured.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

My 1998 pontiac trans sport minivan has developed a problem where the dexcool coolant is leaking into the engine...my mechanic found coolant in the engine oil. I called my dealer, the man from whom i bought the car, and he experienced the same problem on his gm minivan. I did an internet search and found numerous others (www.gm-v6lemons.com, and other places) who have experienced this problem.it seems clear that the manifold gasket in these vehicles develops leaks when exposed to the dexcool coolant. In my case, the vehicle is 5+ years old, and has 59,000 miles...so there is no warranty in effect. Gm should be forced to recall these vehicles and repair this problem.

While driving vehicle overheated. Check engine light flashed and then vehicle stalled.consumer tried to restart vehicle but was unable to do so.consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic replaced the water pump due to mixture of antifreeze and corrosion.

On 12/26/05 i smelled coolant when exiting my vehicle.after investigating, i found that coolant was leaking.i took it to a mechanic, and had the internal gasket replaced for $575.the next day i saw that it was still leaking coolant.i took it back, and had the water pump replaced for $166.the next day i saw it was still leaking, and i had no heat.i took it back to the mechanic, who told me that it is leaking at the timing cover, and the lack of heat could be due to an air bubble, or i may need my heater core replaced.he gave me rough estimates of $900-$1500 for the leak, and probably about $400-600 if my heater core needs replaced.gm needs to recall this vehicle for this problem.

Problems with engine's head gaskets and intake gaskets.*mrwhile driving the vehicle began making a ticking sound.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer where it was later determined that the head gasket and intake gasket failed and caused coolant to leak into the engine.the dealer replaced the gaskets.*nlm

A noise had begun sounding like the engine was not receiving oil.however when the oil was checked it was full so the mechanic did not pursue further.two days later the engine stopped working which resulted in a towing off a major highway and a replacement of the engine $4000.00.it was discovered that the oil pump had failed and there was no indications of the engine needing service for lack of oil or the oil pump needing replacement. *la

Everytime vehicle takes off from a dead stop or while in traffic, it would die out for no reason. This can happen also while making left or right turns.

Coolant leak and intake manifold gasket failure.dealer diagnosed coolant leaks from intake manifold gasket, valve cover gasket and waterpump and recommended coolant flush - dex cool.

My wife was driving home from work. The temp gauge went up and the engine had no power. She pulled overhand parked. After the car cooled down i tried starting it and the temp stayed down so i drove the car to the dealership. I felt all that was wrong was the thermostat stuck. Then i get a call that the head gaskets had failed and that the damage was going to cost me $2400 at least that because of the gasket failure all kinds of damage was done.

Overheating on highway, caused vehicle to shut down to 3 cylinders. Caused a major power loss. Cracked head due to cooling problems.

1998 transport intake manifold gasket failed causing leakage of the engine coolant. This failure occurred twice.

Complaint on repair issue on 1998 pontiac transport van. *ph(nar)the consumer engine was low on coolant and coolant was leaking from the intake manifold gasket area which cause a malfunction in the engine. Dealer was notified.

Failed head gasket.

Motor mounts failed.

I own a 1998 pontiac transport, bought new, and has 80000 miles on it. Was just told that the intake is leaking, ans will need manifold gasket replacement.was told that there have been numerous reports of this happening. Alled local pontiac dealer (matthews pontiac, vestal, ny 607-798-8000) and they confirmed this, and that there is a new and improved gasket, but they wouldn't help with the cost of replacement.also reported that my headlamp lenses have been lost (lost 2 in one year) and had to replace entire headlamp unit at my own cost. Dealer said this is common also, and they believe it was a problem with the adhesive!! they will not help with that one either.

This is the second major problem with the vehicle.at 60,000 miles the engine spun a crankshaft main bearing with the result that the entire engine required replacement.

The serpentine belt broke completely. Luckily, the car was able to be stopped without incident.

I have had problems with my intake manifold gasket that has just been replaced.also my steering wheel is very difficult to turn when i am moving from a stopped position.dt

While driving 70 mph consumer proceeded to accelerate. Vehicle lost power completely stalling out.intake manifold gasket leaked and coolant mixed in with the engine oil.consumer was aware of other complaints in conjunction with this engine.

Intake maniflold gasket leaking anti freeze, dex cool. It cost 1010.27 to repair the engine but now my oil presurre light is flickering when engine idles so there may be some bearing damage. ( cam, rod or main bearings ) the oil presurre sending unit was replaced to see if it had failed still does it. Anti freeze mixing with oil can damage bearings and cause engine to lock up bracking cams and or crankshifts. This can strand us on busy highways.

While driving vehicle reached high temperaturesdue tointake manifold failure. Dealerreplaced the cracked intake manifold at consumer's expense. *mr

Upon exiting the vanconsumer smelled anti freeze. Dealership inspected the van,and noticed antifreeze was leaking into the engine from a crack in the intake gasket.

After the recall repairs were completed for the power sliding door, the problem reoccurred.per-pontiac recall, they simply install a new un-latch actuator assembly to the power sliding door.which is only a one time performance.nhtsa#01v067000the consumers concerns other concern were with the volume button on the radio, the left front window/, and the brakes.*scc

Defective headlamp assembly- the left headlight lens came off the headlight assembly. The dealer says that this is a common problem. The gmc customer service people also know of the problem, but say that not enough complaints have been filed to warrant a recall. This is bull. Also the plastic on the lens crystallizes, causing reduced light output from the headlamp.

Head light collects moisture and causes bulb to burn out. According to dealer there is a shortage of the assemblies available because of the high demand for replacement. Mine was covered under warranty but not all replacements are.

Headlight lamp covers fell off, exposing the wires.

Loud thumbing noise in rear of auto that vibrates up to drivers seat upon starting carand or stopping car.gets louder and louder.

03/01 left headlight lens fell off 12/24/01 right lens fell off while vehicle was stopped.glue appears to have dried up.pontiac customer service said that they have not received enough complaint to do anything about it.they also state that because it is a used car and& milage is higher then waranty allows there is nothing they can do.service department said that this isa common problem and have replaced many headlights usually getting insurance companys to pay.dealer service department said that gm/pontiac knows about the problem but won't correct it. Pontiac customer service stated that there is no releif at this time.

Very costly replacement for poor bonding of the assembly.

Headlamp failed.

Headlight lens has fallen off due to poor seal and no screws. This is now the second headlight that this has happened to on this van. In addition, we had a 1997 transport and both headlight lenses fell off that one as well. After months of complaining and letter writing, pontiac corrected the other 3 headlights at no cost but will not do so with this one. This is clearly a product defect and judging by the numerous other complaints on this site for the same problem, it is a common problem.

Headlamp leak causing water to accumulate inside the lamp.

This is the second time that headlight lenses have fallen off. Lenses were just replaced a month ago.dealer was notified.

I have never had any accidents in my 1998 montana. I've had to replace the headlights 2 times on the right, and once on the left.the front lens on the lights seem to just fall off. These parts are $100 or more. Why are the poorly assembled and have there been other complaints?

Rh headlamp lense fell off. Vehicle never involved in accident. The lense just fell off. Vehicle no longer under warranty. Upon investigating replacement, found out that this is a common problem. No salvage yard has any used available, however they are willing to sell new ones at a price between $100 - $165. I was told that gm wants $250 for the replacement. I also understand that gm is aware of this problem and has done nothing to correct it. This can be seen just by the number of complaints showing up in this website.this could be a serious problem if the light(s) failed at night. It defintely is an expensive problem for the consumer.

Moisture accumulated in head lamp.

Right side headlight lense fell off vehicle. Conversation with a pontiac dealer parts manager and a pontiac dealer service manager indicated that this is a common problem. The problem is that the lense is "glued" to the housing and that the adhesive material dries out causing the lense to separate from the housing. You can not purchase a replacement lens, you can only purchase an entire headlight asssemble, approximately $240.00 plus labor. Additionally, when moisture enters the now lense free assembly, the halogen headlight fails. Halogen lights have been the cause of several house fires because of their high operational temperture. The chevrolet venture van uses the same headlight assembly. This same assembly is used on both of these vehicles for several years. For the manufacture yer of 1998, your site lists 11 complaints for this defect for the pontiac van and 17 complaints for this defect for the chevrolet venture van. I have not researched all the years that this part has been used for both of these vehicles. This assebly may also be used on the oldmobile siloette van.

Head light dome comes off leaving lamp exposed to elements. This is a hazard. If lamp is exposed to rain, it may burst leaving only one functioning headlight. This has happened to both headlights on my vehicle. Dealer has informaed us that this is indeed a problem on this and other vehicles by pontiac. However, no recall has been issued.

Drivers side headlamp fell off - literally just dropped right off of it - i had no idea what it was, sitting at a light, thought it could have been a passing auto - i stopped, looked, thinking it would be the blinker, and kept going- only to find out it was the cover to the head light!this is an ongoing problem, from what we're finding and no junk/salvage yards have any - and they all say the same thing - they're gone before they get there, junk headlamp!these and the grandams!this van has only 50k miles on it!not like it's got a ton of mileage!

Headlight cover ondriver side ofvehicle fell off.when elements contacted headlight bulbs, failure ofheadlight was the result.consumer had to replaceentire headlight assembly. Consumer has been informed thatpassenger's headlight sealantwas drying and was beginning to crack.please provide any additional information/attachments.

Headlight lens fell off.drivers side replaced twice.currently, bothneeded to be replacedat cost of $150.00for each for headlight.

I purchased my montana new in 1998.i have had good service, except for a premature battery failure, up until now.i was in the process of changing the headlight bulb when i noticed that the headlight assembly was degrading to the point that the lens was detaching from the headlamp assembly.now i know that this vehicle is 4 years old but there is no reason for the lamps to fall apart.what good is rust through warranties if the bonding material holding the parts together fail prematurely?i believe this problem has been around for a couple of years.about 2 years after i purchased my montana i noticed a fogging inside the headlamp after driving through rain.the dealer told me that was normal for that type of headlight.now, looking back, i believe that the seal was already deteriorating.--- i do believe this is a material defect that could cause accidents, if the lens falls off during rain or snow.i hope that this is not a purposely designed in defect and i believe that gm would want to correct this problem, even in an older vehicle. --- the response back from gm was that due to the age of the vehicle they were not responsible for the fault as follows: -- although we do understand your position, our experience has been that a defect attributable to the original manufacturing and assembly process generally makes itself apparent quite early in the life of the vehicle.after a vehicle has been in service for several years, many factors such as usage, owner maintenance, age and wear, can contribute to difficulties with the vehicle that are beyond the control of the manufacturer. -- i believe this is a material issue, the material used should hold up for 10+ years under normal usage.this material must have started deteriorating after two years, when i first noticed fogging in the head lamp assembly.i know that my vehicle is not the only one with this problem.

Moisture condenses on the inner lens of the head light, lessening the ability of the head light to illuminate the road. Yh

Pontiac trans sport 1998 --exterior lighting:headlights visibility extremelypoor. Own vehicle since 2005.

The lens (headlight) cover fell off!dealer stated the lens cover is not a separate piece. Entire assembly needs to be replaced. I was told by the dealer that this was not covered by the extended warranty we had purchased. No one could tell me why this since the lens cover fell off! it was not hit, not involved in an accident; simply fell off! lens cover was on the car when i left for church. 15 minutes later it was gone! why is this not covered by the warranty? the halogen bulb it not to be exposed where it can be touched!

Headlamp covers fly off because of poor gluing, water hits bulb and it blows out.

I brought my 1998 pontiac transport minivan in for recall repair arriving at 7:30 am.my vehicle was returned to me around 9 am and i was told that the work was completed.i pressed the automatic door and it didn't release, so i let someone know.my vehicle was swoshed away and i stood there not really knowing what theperson said quickly before jumping in and taking off.i simply stepped back out of his way.finally, i went back in the waiting room and about an hour later he came in.he told me that i needed to bring it back during a week day where he would have more time to see what's going on with the door handle/lock.he also informed me that it would cost me $95.00.i don't know what to do at this point except call the phone number on the recall letter.i truly feel that there should not be a charge, because the recall letter clearly states to replace the exisiting handle, lock, etc. So the door can openand close as it should.i asked twice if he needed to see the letter and he said no both times.

Drivers power seat has a poor design. The side trim (right) bottoms-out on the vehicle floor at the back when lowering the power seat. This causes the seat to tilt laterally. As a result, the tilting over time has loosened the entire mechanism. I suspect that if this vehicle were to be involved in an accident, this seat mechanism would not retain the seat. Wouldn't this create a hazard for the driver?the increased mass would be incurred by the driver and the seat-belt.*la

The air conditioning may have never worked, we hadn't tried it until 10 mths after buying the van. The low coolant light came on and we brought the van to a mechanic who said the repair would cost 800.00. He added stop leak, which worked temporarily. Paint on hood of van is peeling and coming off right down to the metal. I've seen the very same issue on many other vans like mine the same year, make and model. This is a factory paint problem and pontiac should fix this.

This is the second time i have had this overhead console fixed in two years.

Since 1973, i've driven a series of 8 cars (about 20-24,000 miles per year) in all kinds of weather, and never hydroplaned until purchasing transsport in 1998. I've hydroplaned 3 times in it, in shallow water, but managed to get control of car and avoid accidents.this car was purchased with the idea of giving it to my daughter as a used car when she turned 16 in 2001. (we had given our son the family caravan when we bought the transsport.) because of the transsport's tendency to hydrplane, we did not feel it was safe to give an inexperienced driver, so we bought a different used car for her instead. My husband was driving the transsport to beach on saturday and hydroplaned on a 4-lane highway at bottom of a hill, spinning, going backwards across median, and ending up in far lane facing oncoming traffic. Miraculously, despite labor day weekend traffic, no one hit our car as it crossed 4 lanes of traffic and no one was injured.my sister had problems with my mom's transsport hydroplaning when she drove it on a trip.she was so scared she actually stopped travelling and spent night in hotel before reaching her destination. Could this be a design flaw or a problem with steering or what? both cars had good tires (steel-belted radials), not ones that came on vehicle, and we had just had our car inspected the week before my husband left for the beach.have you had other reports, or have tests been done re this?the other minivan we had, the caravan, did not have this problem.

Have had three flats with the same tire.concerned since there have been firestone recalls. (tiresize: p215/70r)( dot number:tire size: p215/70r )

We replaced our original tires at 37,156 miles with these cooper tires.our local expert tire store is where we purchased them and they also did the mounting and balance.this was done on 06/22/99.on 09/21/00, we took the van back to our dealer's service department for an oil change and rotation.upon inspection, the service supervisor advised us not to drive on these tires until replaced, as there was steel cord showing through on 3 of the 4 tires.the wear was on the inside area of the tires, which could not be seen unless up on a hoist.we left the van and had the tires replaced.unfortunately, we did not have them save the tires.we were upset that these had to be replaced so soon, and that the wear seemed to happen so intensely, so quickly.we have the oil changed on a regular basis and also the rotation, alignment, etc.when we questioned cooper about the tires, their reponse was, "it sounds more like an alignment problem with the vehicle".we then saw on the news where questions were being asked of cooper tires and the way their tires are manufactured.we are lucky that no one was hurt, as these tires obviously could have blown at any time.we have other passengers in our van from time to time, we were very lucky. (tiresize: 2157or15)( dot number: tire size: 2157or15 )

Defective tire is causing the tire to separate from sidewall which could result ina tire to blow out.

The power locks on the passenger and driver's side doors do not work correctly. The driver side door will only unlock and that was that way when we bought it in septembr of 2001. The passenger side door use to lock and unlock but this year it started giving us problems and now will only lock. We also have problems with the engine rattleing when it is first starts up.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

The traction control light is inoperative.nlm

When vehicle is driven, engine check light comes on. Been in shop 6 times for problem. Fuel pump had to be replaced. Been on diagnostic machine & problem not solved.

Extremely unhappy with service from dealers, they can not find the problems

At 71,000 miles, the power window control module on my 1998 pontiac transport was failed.initially, the drivers side power window moved very slowly, and then wouldn't close all the way.finally, it operated with the window askew, and not closing at all.

The third-row seats were knocked out of their anchors when a ford escort hit my van in the rear.i was stopped to turn when i was hit.the escort was traveling at approximately 40 to 45 mph, and my rear bumper took the full force of the impact; afterwards, i noticed that both third row seats were out of their achors and laying back towards the rear glass.the repair shop was only able to re-seat one of the seats; they had to order a frame for the other one.the cost of the new seat frame was $650.00.the total amount of damage to my van exceeded $3,400.00.the seat frame was the second most expensive item.my worry is that if my children had been with me, serious injury could have occurred as a result of the seats coming out of their anchors.secondly, the seat belts are attached to the seats instead of the floor, so these are useless in a rear collision.if the seats come out the seatbelts go with them.i am very disappointed with the performance of both the seats and the seatbelts, i am very uncomfortable with putting anyone in the third row. The bottom line here is that the 1998 pontiac trans sport is very unsafe when it comes to collisions.

Rpms go to 1200 upon starting vehicle and 1500 when put into drive.gas pedal does not have to be pressed, vehicle accelerates on its own.please provide any further information.

Gas and brake pedals are located too close together, causing the driver to apply the opposite of whatever is needed. Dealer says it's the design.

While drivingand trying togive gasgas pedal sticks, causing vehicle to surge.

My 1998 pontiac trans sport, without warning, developed a broken accelerator cable and accelerated full speed out of control.i was lucky to get it stopped without a serious accident.

Driving down a highway65 mph, i turned on the cruise control and set it for 65 mph.after a minute, i noticed i was going75, then 85.going up hill the vehicle was now approaching 95 mph.i tried touching the brake, but that did not turn off the cruise control. I then turned off the cruise control via the switch and that did not work.i tried putting the vehicle into neutral, and braked until the vehicle came to a stop. The engine was roaring at full speed. I turned off the vehicle and put it into park. When i turned on the vehicle i had the same problem. I then turned off the vehicle and waited a longer time. This timethe cruise control stopped.they told me at the shop the cruise control module failed. It is presently disconnected.this is a bad mode of failure.i should always be able to disengage the cruise control by touching the brake. Concerned about the rear glass "exploding."van was parked in driveway when glass "exploded."would have caused an accident had the vehicle been moving,in addition glass showered the entire inside of the van.very alarming!

Drivers side window stuck in the down position.*la

Drivers side window opens but will not close properly. The glass will not go up straight. The automatic rear windows will open separately or not at all. Once open it takes several tries to get them to close.

Driver\\'s power window was initially slow to close, and then wouldn\\'t close all the way.eventually, it began closing erratically, with the glass askew.the dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty power window control module; the part is approximatley $450 and the labor is $250.gm has refused to repair the part, due to lack of warranty history on the claim.they do have an outstanding service bulleting for an allied problem, of sticky window tracks, which probably led to the initial slowness of the window closing.that probably led to a failure of the module in question.in an effort to save money, i tried having it repaired at a local auto glass repair facility, hoping they could just reposition the window.they came back with the same diagnosis.curiously, they indicated that they contacted at least 20 sources for the window module, and that they were told the part is on a national back order.and yet gm denies a problem with this part!

Windshield leaked.yh

After the recall repairs were completed for the power sliding door, the problem reoccurred.per-pontiac recall, they simply install a new un-latch actuator assembly to the power sliding door.which is only a one time performance.nhtsa#01v067000the consumers concerns other concern were with the volume button on the radio, the left front window/, and the brakes.*scc

Braking system malfunctioned, causing agrinding noise when making a stop.alsowindshield wiper blade, after a month of use, didnot properly remove rain which may cause visual difficulty, and result in a crash.dealer replaced at least 8 times, anddelear could not determine thecause. Please provide further information.

Windshield wiper fluid does not hit the windshield when the windshield wipers are turned on.dealer contacted and stated a design flaw.manufacturer contacted and stated they will file the information.vision is not clear when this happens.

Dealer states tires have never been removed by them and wheels were torqued to tight .sounds like smoke to me maybe you have a more serious problem with your design!

While driving about 55 mphright rear tire became disattached fromvehicle due tolugs: nuts shearing off. Had been the second time thatthis hashappened.
