Car was involved in a car/deer accident. Speed was aprox. 40 mph. Hit on right front, air bag did not deploy.

We just bought a new car and i would like to have permission to have an on/off switch put on the air bag on the passenger side of the car because i have 9 grandchildren and often i have 4 of them with me.the back seat only has 3 seat belts.would it be possible to have the air bag unhooked or do i need the on/off switch?meralyn chipman.

I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire and i was in a car/cow accident in may 0f 06 i was going at speeds of 55 mph we hit head on and the air bags did not deploy. Now what's up with that??? thank god now one was hurt.

My son was driving home the night before his wedding, was not drunk according to the coroner. The police report said he must have went off the road, overcorrected and began spinning and rolling.the car went 469 feet before it came to rest on top of him, the report says he must have been ejected through the sunroof. My son was 34 very muscular. I do not believe that unless there was something mechanically wrong with the car thar he could not have controlled it. I have seen other reports of the same thing happening to other people with the same car. Also the airbags did not deploy that alone might have saved my sons life. There were two other people in the car, both hurt seriously. Please let me know if this same thing is happening to other people and if there is anything i can do. I still have the car exactly as it was, in storage.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire.the vehicle was parked with the engine running as the contact placed her child in the rear child seat.when she pushed the passenger seat back, the air bags deployed unexpectedly. She called gm and was informed that someone would come out to inspect the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 47,000. Updated 03-04-08

My 2002 pontiac sunfire stalls at random times, whether in motion or at a complete stop, when ever the clutch is put in.issue began in the standard warranty with only 33,817 miles, but after multiple testdrives and just normal driving, this issue has carried over onto the extended warranty.the initial day i took my car in for this issue was 10/8/2004, last time it was in for this same issue was 3/4/2005 and still not resolved.the service advisors flat out say, "honestly, we have no idea what is causing this and have no idea on how to fix it."so, i continue driving this car that does and can stall out going 60-70 mph on the freeway.i am currently 7 months pregnant and have stressed and worried about this issue for majority of my pregnancy.

Day time running lights flicker service engine light comes on some kind of headlight short and i see online this is a common problem i have it on my 2002 sunfire and there are hundred of forums on this problem.

This car was bought brand new.since it's purchase we have had many issues.we had to replace the transmission at less than 20,000 (it was still under warranty though).my power windows have all stopped working and have been replaced (i've had to buy 7 different ones), my cigarette lighter fuse has been replaced twice, i have also had the problems with my headlights and they have had shorts and the wiring has needed replaced on both sides, and last finally my switch on my driver door that turns the dome light on and the radio off has needed changed 3 times now!we have had many problems with this car and i would never recommend this car to anyone!!

Vehicle has cut-off or couldn't be started 7 times.also, the vehiclewas towed 4 times due to its stalling problems. *la pontiac had been given 4-5 chances to fix the problem since may 2003.the mechanics could not duplicate the problem.the power train module failed intermittently and the pcm assembly was replaced, the cd player did not function properly, and the engine would crank, but not start.the mechanic(s) found the fuel pump shorted. *sc

When brake pedal was depressed brakes made a loud noise, and excessive force had to be applied to stopvehicle.this was caused by the rotors continuously cracking.dealership resurfaced and replaced the rotors. Also when slowing down or at a complete stop, vehicle would stall without warning. Dealership reprogrammed the computer chip. In addition, power windows malfunctioned. They would engage by themselves and slide up/down, and stick in either position. Dealership replaced the motor, but the problem still exists.

Unsure of the day in april of 2002 the car was purchased. I don't know the exact date the problems began. The problems are with the heating/air conditioning system, brakes, all seat belts, windows, roof leaks, electrical system and radio.the electrical system shorted out, had to be repaired.problems continued with the heating/air system so i took it in again. It still wasn't repaired properly. One vent over the radio does not blow the air out effectively like the vent next to it. When the heating/air conditioning system is turned off the air continues to blow air out the floor vents that increases with acceleration.the car doesn't cool properly unless the recirculating air is on. The window of the cd player/radio became too hot to touch.i was told this was normal and nothing was wrong with the radio. Since this time,1/2 of the window display is faded.the electrical windows do not work properly. The passenger has problems similar to the driver window but it doesn't occur continuously as in the driver's window.in order to roll the window up, the operator has to wait for at least 5 minutes, depress the button, the window will roll up less than 1/2 an inch. This process continues until the window is up. It seems as though the motor is overheating , has to cool down in order to operate properly again. The seat belts have been fixed once but now the shoulder harness on allseat belts do not lock into place. The brakes grind and squeek at times. The roof leaks where the rear window meets the roof. When going up a hill the car has difficulty at 20 - 30 miles an hour. The dealership stated i should have spent more money for a car, and not bought a cheap one. I have been to two dealerships without any luck. I also have contacted the pontiac customer assistance service center and they refuse to assist me in locating a dealership with the proper staffing, all they will provide is a list of dealerships. I feel as though this is a safety problem for investigation.

The contact ownsa 2002 pontiac sunfire. The contact stated that the ignition seized in the "on" position and the vehicle failed to turn off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 151,000.

When trying to put car into park, shift cable broke and it was very difficult to get into park. Had to use emergency brake to keep car from rolling. Then, because car wasn't fully in park, ignition wouldn't restart. Had to replace cable.

This is not the first issue we have had with this vehicle and electrical issues. It spent 6 weeks in the shop the first time back in late 2011 because the wipers, lights, power anything in car went on the fritz and locks failed. Now the drl lights quit and the service engine light comes on when they fail when you put the car into gear, high beams quit, rear light connectors are rotted and shorted out and the ignition switch is screwed up and that is only the beginning. It has gone into week 7 now with no results. I feel general motors owes us some solution to these problems especially since i am finding out i am not the only owner of this type of vehicle that has had the exact same electrical issues. These are safety issues not to mention very costly repairs and being without our vehicle to go back and forth to work. Out of the 70 complaints i read there are 20 plus issues with the same electrical issues i am having. Why has general motors not done anything to address these issues or at least help with the repair costs?? in the last year and a half my car has been in the shop 13 weeks and counting for these electrical issues.

The gauges stopped working when the lights and heater was turned on thus causing me to have the vehicle towed home where i was able to identify the problem as the wiring harness for the vehicle.

I own a 2002 pontiac sunfire and i constantly have trouble starting it and there are no problems with the battery. After i play with the wiring for a bit it eventually starts yet when i'm driving it it stalls out and it seems like my car has a hard time shifting gears because it jolts as i speed up or slow down. And sometimes it jolts when i'm not accelerating nor decreasing speed. This has happened ever since i purchased the car in mid 2006. And after researching it i found that the same make and model of my car has been recalled for various reasons.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire. The contact stated that whenever starting the ignition, the abs and engine warning indicators illuminated continuously until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the canister vamp solenoid and evap canister were both replaced. The failure persisted after the repair was performed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Fire hazard, rear light sockets melting and smoking.

Turned off the vehicle, got my fuses and relay's all checked and turned the car on the next morning, nothing on my dash panel is working. No mileage, none of the gauges work, fuses and relays are all good.

Steering column began to smoke and car engine stopped. Dealership determined the cause to be a short in the ignition switch wiring harness due to rubbing on the steering column.

I have been the only owner of my 2002 pontiac sunfire; well back in 2011 it just would not start; took it to a trusty mechanic who told me i had to go to the dealership cause most likely i needed an ignition switch; so i took it to the dealer in town; being they are a gm dealer; i mentioned what it needed; they looked at it for several days and told me i needed a new computer system; and it was 703.00 for labor and everything; okay so we decide to fix it; get it back and guess what several weeks later it dies on the interstate while my husband was going 70mph; he had to throw it into neutral and pull over; cause it almost caused an accident!!! take it back to same dealership; they can't find anything wrong with it; they have me come pick it up and it wont even start!!! so i leave it there; then they call me that monday; you need an ignition switch and we will replace this for free; did i even need a new computer??? gm this car is dangerous and needs to be on that recall list; cause its next; also; i have had a broken trunk; a broken moon roof; and in the winter when its really cold out; good luck getting inside the car; these doors freeze like no other; its not meant to sit outside; i have had overheating issues; got that fixed finally; now the ac compressor is shot and the ac won't work; that is 800.00 to fix; but before with trying to run the ac the car would rev up really bad when sitting idle and sometimes it just shuts off; always starts back up; thank goodness; but the computer and compressor could not keep up with each other is what i was told; the body on this car is horrible; expect rust unless you keep it in a garage and the paint peels like no other; if there is an ignition switch problem; why is this car not on the recall??? this car almost caused an accident; my husband knew what to do; also sometimes the seat belts almost choke you, be careful!

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire. The contact stated that the key took thirty minutes to eject from the ignition switch after repeated attempts. On a separate occasion, the ignition key failed to turn in any position or release from the ignition switch. An independent mechanic replaced the ignition switch. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire. The contact stated that while parked, the key became stuck in the ignition and the vehicle was unable to be placed in drive. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced and programmed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds at night, the head light high beam was inoperable.the vehicle was driven to the dealer, who determined the wiring harness needed to be replaced.

I have a 2002 pontac sunfire i bought on 10/22/2003. Every since i have owned it, i have had to keep taking it back for electrical problems. As a matter of fact ,it is at the dealer right now , for a problem in the fuse box. The car had only 23,000 miles when i bought it.*la

I have had the car since august of 2002, and have only had a problem with the rear defroster. It would work when it wanted to.i was told that it was a fuse, that wasn't the problem.i figured that it was a short in the wiring, but it wasn't covered by the warranty, and i don't have the money to let a mechanic go probing around my car to find out what was wrong.on 11/28/07 while i was driving only a few miles, upon starting the car - smoke started pouring out of my vents and the gas gauge (which the tank was full) started dropping down to 'e'.took car to dealership and they say that the two things are unrelated.exact quote from invoice about what caused the smoke "burnt smell electrical, found harness to rear defogger on left lower kick panel melted replaced connector with butt connectors".i told the dealership about the gas gauge and that it happened at the exact same time that the smoke started coming out of the vent, and the invoice about that says "needs sending unit in tank ordered parts 200 parts 240 labor".making the price come to around 440.00 to fix the gas gauge!i called around and found a mechanic that charged me $300.00, only to find out that the sending unit wasn't defective!when the harness to the rear defogger melted - it melted out the cluster for the fuel gauge.i spent $300.00 for nothing, and i don't know how much i will have to pay to get the dashboard cluster fixed.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine stalled and the track off warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart after several attempts and was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

I purchased a 2002 pontiac sunfire brand new in 2001 thinking i could save money on gas..at around 20,000 miles the timing chain broke and messed up the whole engine.the engine is a no tolerance engine and when one thing breaks it messes up everything.service fixed the timing chain because it was still under warranty.i returned regularly to the dealership stating i could hear a noise, and being a woman was not taken seriously.i even sent the vehicle home with the service rep for the week-end and was told he couldn't hear a thing.as it turns out at this time 62,000 miles the engine blew at 55 mph in the middle of a us hwy on the way home from picking up my grandson.this vehicle has been in the shop more than it has been at my home and is now dead...not running...broken..guess i knew what i was talking about after all..even if i am female.thanks gm for making such quality products.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle is driven at any speed, there is a fluttering noise from the front end.the noise ceases when the vehicle is stopped.the dealership has rotated the tires, aligned the front end, changed the oil, flushed the engine, and repaired the rear rotors in an attempt to stop the noise.however, the noise has gotten worse.these repairs have not fixed the problem.

Intermittently while driving at 50mph vehicle will shut down, losing all power. Contacted dealer., cannot duplicate problem.i

Pontiac sunfire 2002, stalled, replaced fuel pump strainer. The oxygen sensor was also replaced.

I purchased a brand new pontiac sunfire back in 2002.i started having several problems shortly after. My main concern was a foul odor in the vehicle.the odor was so strong it made me sick. I had to ride with the windows down.which this wasn't noticed until the summer months when the tempatures heat up. It was taken to the dealer to be checked out. On the second attempt they dicovered a leak underneath the car. I was told there was a crack at the seem and they would repair the crack and then replace carpet. However once again the odor is back and the car is back in the shop. This time they claim they found standing water underneath but cannot find a leak. I have been told they will fix it and replace carpet once again. I have been very patient up until now. Instead of having a new car smell, i drive around with a mildew smell. Correct me if i'm wrong but mildew can be harmful. Needless to say, it is a odor that will not go away.when i exit the car i notice that the smell still lingures with me. Although the carpet has been replaced the smell is still very noticable. I have had several other problems with this vechicle such as anti-lock brakes (twice), brake ligths, problems with radio and speakers, cutting out while driving on the interstate (sputtering),tempature gage reading high. I was even told that the rotors are bad which easily could be wear and tear but i feel they could have been bad from the get go.to me this is all minor, my main concern is the leak and mildew.my car which has been to the shop more than the gas station should be classified as a lemon. Especially with only 26,000 miles on it. I strongly believe that i should be given a refund or a new car. When you purchase a new car you should be satisfied. In this case, my story leaves a sour taste in my mouth and nasusa feeling in my gut. Please help...kimberly stevenson.

Informationin owners manual is wrong.manual states that there should be 5.8 quarts of oil in vehicle, butconsumer found out that there should only be 4 quarts of oil.

The drl lights on my daughters pontiac sunfire malfunctioned and quit working. The problem with the drl's is that they are wired into the headlights, and when the drl"sshort out they disable the left headlight. I have trying t to get it repaired but haven't found the problem yet. I have replaced the drl relay, the headlight switch, the bulbs, with no luck.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds at night, the head light high beam was inoperable.the vehicle was driven to the dealer, who determined the wiring harness needed to be replaced.

Consumer states: blinkers malfunctioned, whenturning on blinkers at times they will not work at all.then, other times, they will work and blink 2 or 3 times, then quit.also, windshield wipers will come on without touching them. Happened no matter what the speed. Dealer didn't attempt to look at vehicle, and not under warranty.

The consumer 2002 pontiac sunfire stalled and wouldstart up after being off for a little while.the dealer replaced the fuel pump.the consumer read about an ongoing investigation in reference to an in tank fuel strainer which could collapse causing stalling.the consumer believes this may be the cause of her vehicle stalling and request that the manufacturer recall and repair the vehicle.

The gas gage on the pontiac sunfire is not stable.it will move up and down when the car is in park and still running.i have ran out of gas when the gas gage was set at 1/4 of a tank left.this needs to be fixed and i don't think i should have to pay for it.this is a dangerous thing to be happening, it could have ran out of gas on the highway in the night.sandra

Oct. 2003 2003 ponitac sunfire refused to start. Had towed to mechanic cause 400 miles over warranty, replaced fuel filter but mechanic said needed fuel pump replaced. Jan. 2004, same problem, except had family member replace fuel filter as cheap fix, but didn't work. Trying to find out why this is happened without having to buy fuel pump from gm at cost, too much money. All these problems with gm vehicles and nothing being done about it, yet all are the same. Please help fix problem.

Was not notified by pontiac that my sunroof should be serviced yearly to prevent leaks. I contacted the dealer where i purchased the car and was told gm has no recommended service yet everywhere i have asked has told me it needs serviced or you will have leaks. Dealer said there is nothing they can do for me. Now i have clogged drain lines and have water leaking into my trunk, and the water has damaged my back speakers. Also, i am very upset with the design of the shifter light. I have called around and the only place i can have it fixed at is the dealer and i am looking at $130.00 just in labor for a bad light bulb. I think it is unfair to your customers to have a part, such as a light that will burn out, unreplaceable by anyone but the dealers who then in turn charge outrageous prices to do the repairs. So now i have water in my trunk no back speakers and can't see what gear i am in at night on a vehicle that is only 3 years old with 42000 miles on it. I also have been told that the vehicle looks wrecked and i am having to replace front struts and mounts as well as rack and pinion. I never wrecked this vehicle and no one else drives my car!

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the right front passenger side door opened without warning.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the door latch was inoperative.after the initial door latch replacement, the problem persisted.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who determined the door latch needed to be replaced again.the manufacturer was alerted.updated 01/17/07.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire.occasionally, the accelerator pedal will not release once it is depressed.the failure occurs while driving at any speed.the failure initially occurred every three weeks, but now occurs once a week or once every two weeks.general motors stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.the current mileage was 51,221 and failure mileage was 30,000.

While traveling at highway speeds the passenger seatbelt locks and has to be unbuckeled- recoiled- and relatched, thus leaving the passenger unprotected.the dealer states the belt is working as designed.i feel this is an usatisfactory and dangerous condition.the dealer replaced the seatbelt mechanism and furnished the seat belt extender, however, the seat belt still locks and has to be removed and rebuckeled at highway speeds, leaving the passenger unprotected.

Vehicle is equipped with a positioning guide to position the shoulder belt away from a child's neck in the rear seats, however thepositioning guide doesn't hold the shoulder belt away from the child's neck.

On november 12, 2008 i was in an auto accident.i was driving my 2002 pontiac sunfire that i had purchased on october 28, 2008.as the car ahead of me began to brake i began to brake as well.however, it did not feel as thought the brakes "grabbed" causing me to collide into the car in front of me.i have a broken foot caused from pushing on the brakes.

Service brakes wore out prematurely, and destroyed the rotors and other brake components. The brakes squealed andmade a grind noise, the left (driver front) hub cap rattled/shaked, water leaked in the back seat.the service technician said the metal brakes didn't have pads.the front end steering shaked, the rotor(s) had worn out, the right inside door panel was loose, the speaker had gone out, the power steering squeaked per invoice, the ac chirped, and a wind noise had come from the front doors. *scc

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire.while driving between 35-40 mph, the brakes failed.the vehicle struck and destroyed the rear bumper of the preceding vehicle.the contact's vehicle was destroyed and towed from the scene.a police report was filed.he was transported to the hospital by an ambulance and sustained injuries.the current and failure mileages were 26,000.updated 01/29/08

The brakes on my pontiac sunfire 2002 grinds, and when you hit a bump it sounds like the front end is coming apart, i believe its the brake system that's causing the awful noise, its embarrassing that a new car sounds like a 1969 pontiac firebird coming down the road.

Turned in driveway and the brakes would not work and i went thru the garage door. Brakes would not work and i had my foot on the pedal. I called a wrecker and had it towed to the dealer where i bought this car. They drove it and checked the fluid, said they checked the brakes but i assume they did not get inside the brake system. This could of had been a larger problem if i was on the highway and could not stop. I know my foot was on the peddle..please check into this. I don't even want to get back into this car it scares me.

When the brakes are depressed in the rainthey will skid. Vehicleexperienced this problem over thirty times since 2002.

Memorial day 2003, when coming to a quick stop a loud gringing noise; this was intermittent and the car went to dealer a number of times since; this has happened 13 times in 15 months; most recently on august 2, 2004, that same noise and the steering was lost/tires locked.immediately brought it to the dealer who dida 1 mile test drive and stated the car was fine and needed the rotors turned and brake pad replacement.this does not account for loss of steering or tires locking up.

Consumer states that vehicle's stopping distance has greatly increased due to defective rotors.rotors have been replaced 3x in a year.

While starting the vehicle applied brakes, and pedal went to the floor.contacted dealer. A rope had gotten around the axle and brokebrake line, causingfuelto run out.

While attempting to slow my 2002 sunfire to make a turn i lost my brakes. The pedal went to the floor without resistance. I was able to coast to a stop then had car towed to dealership. They claimed that the system was contaminated by the wrong brake fluid causing the seals to fail. The oil change facility that had last serviced the vehicle had no record of topping off the fluid and insists that it did not touch the brake fluid.warning light never came on.

2002 pontiac sunfire steering wheel.outer cover and foam separated from inner steel frame.in an emergency maneuver with rapid steering (or if power steering fails) outer cover and foam can tear causing loss of ability to steer car.first failure on this car was in august 13, 2004, car had 32,437 mi. And dealer replaced steering wheel under warranty.tech who inspected car said "safety issue".second failure was in july 2010 at 83,000 mi.dealer and gm would not admit to this being a safety issue as well as a defective design and estimated repair cost of $450.gmwould not cover the cost of the repair.

My tilt steering wheel column wobbles from side to side, it would never stay locked in one position and with time it started to move while driving, people have attempted to fix it, but it doesn't last and i can't get a safety inspection because of it, the inspector says it is too dangerous. It has never been wrecked or damaged and was bought brand new, it about 123,000 miles on it.when i turn to the left especially, the steering wheel flops from left to right.

The steering wheel was so loose it had radial and axial play. The car was hard to steer because of the collapsed steering wheel. The car was taken to the dealership where their finding was a "worn part" within the steering column. It was a pin type of component that was used to pivot and move the steering wheel according to the mechanic. The charge to fix the problem was estimated at $729 to replace the whole steering column. The car was driven home and parked in the driveway where a complaint is being filed. How can a component be worn from one of the most critical parts of a car and not be considered a defect? the funniest thing was when the service personnel gave the keys to the mechanic he said, "be careful driving that thing, it's dangerous".driving 65mph on an interstate and your steering wheel collapsing is not anything i would like my worst enemy to experience. I don't want to be the first person to be injured or die in a car crash for this to finally be a recall.

Steering column began to smoke and car engine stopped. Dealership determined the cause to be a short in the ignition switch wiring harness due to rubbing on the steering column.

When a turn was made, the steering made a noise, and became loose, the mechanic stated the problem was the boot and the seal, however the problem recurred two weeks later and the mechanic refused to fix the vehicle.

Steering column locked on me while i was making a left turn.i literally had to pull hard to the left to avoid hitting another car or going right up into park cars.i called to pontiac roadside service so they can tow because the car is still under warranty. Dealership they took it to said they found nothing wrong,i refuse to pick it up and drive it any longer.i have children and their lives are not worth a $12,000 car.this is the 2nd time in 4 months that this car has been returned to the dealership for defects.

My daughter was on her way to college and she was going around a curve and the steering of her 2002 pontiac sunfire locked up and she could not steer.due to this she hit a telephone pole and the car was turned sideways and hit a tree then went over a embankment.the damage is all to the rear of the car.i have called pontiac several times and gotten transferred to several departments and no one ends up helping me.i also have a tried my insurance company and they just want to fix the exterior and not worry about the problem.she is having a very hard time driving.she does not want to get back into this car after it's fixed.she feels if it's fixed on the outside that doesn't mean the problem is solved.i am not having any luck with any of the people i have contacted.there are recalls for early year sunfires but not 2002.if they just found out about the problem in earlier years how do they know that they fixed it in this model year.ts

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac sunfire. The contact stated the vehiclewas taken to an authorized dealer who detected that the entire frame was completely corroded and that the damage was beyond repair. The approximate failure mileage was 64,690. The vin was unavailable.

Dt*:the contact stated while attempting to stop at 10 mph, the passenger side door opened without warning.the contact pulled over and closed the door.the vehicle was not seen by a dealership to determine the problem.

1. Occured without warning;. Lower front wheel control arm retainer bolt loosened allowing control arm to move freely, allowing wheel to contact inner fender liner which locked the wheel causing loss of steering control.there is no positive locking apparatus on bolt (cotter pin or similar) to prevent loosening. Bolt is oriented head down so once loose, vibration and gravity will invariably cause bolt to fall out.3. Bolt was replaced and tightened securely.

Turned off the vehicle, got my fuses and relay's all checked and turned the car on the next morning, nothing on my dash panel is working. No mileage, none of the gauges work, fuses and relays are all good.

Went to a gm dealership and they greased the throttle cable no binds anywhere. The throttle cable sticks. It's a manual transmission. If you push the clutch pedal in and stomp on the throttle pedal it release it and goes back to normal. It is a 2002 pontiac sunfire.

Cruise control has gone insaneone day when driving down the road, the cruise control decided it needed to switch on and that i should be going 50+ in a 35 mph zone.this is on a 2002 pontiac sunfire with 5 speed manual transmission.if i depressed the clutch, the engine of course raced as hard as it could.applying the brakes failed to disengage the cruise control; manually switching the cruise control off failed to disengage; even turning the engine off (by turning off the key) failed to disengage it! luckily, i have a manual transmission, and kept a cool head, so was able to keep the car under control.i pulled over to the side of the road and turned the car off.when i started the engine back up, the cruise control was still engaged, for it was racing as hard as it could.i turned it back off and let it sit for a bit, hoping that once it sat for a bit, all would be well.after about 10 minutes i turned the key and it was fine, except that once i got back on the road, the cruise control would not come on when i tried to switch it on.ever since, the cruise control will not come on when i try to use it and occasionally.randomly comes on by itself when i am not trying to use it.the cruise control has come on by itself at least a half dozen times.

Passenger side window motor stopped working. Driver side window motor working slowly. Upon replacing the bad motor i noticed there was no assist spring on the window lifting assembly on either door. Although there is a spot for one on both assemblies. Assemblies that i had worked on in the past included these springs. I had thought that the assist springs were there to help the motor in lifting the window. Especially in a two door with larger windows.

Window motors are susceptible to water intrusion causing premature failure.

Blower for heater/airconditioner blew after hitting small bump on 5/26/03; fuse replaced;same problem after hitting pothole on 6/21/03 with a burning plastic smell noted on 6/22/03;brought to dealer on 6/23/03 and was told it was not the fuse it was the blower with part on order; returned to dealer and was told that a purple and white wire "melted' and "was cut back" and that a wire on the radio was not "positioned incorrectly" which may have caused the "short"; since then the floor vent blows warm to hot air without the blower on with enough intensity to burn my right foot.also, when the air conditioner is on with the indicator on the fatherest cold section warm-hot air still blows through the front floor vent; went back to the dealer again and they said it was a twisted/disconnected hose/tube; problem still exist.also, on 5/26/03 a small growling noise was noted; this noise continues intermittently when coming to a quick stop and has progressively become louder and longer;the windshield wiper has since been replaced with out further visibility problems.dealer visits: 5/27/03, 5/28/03, 5/31/03 6/23/03,6/24/03, 6/25/03, 7/7/03, 7/16/03, 7/22/03, 7/25/03; 8/1/03, 8/6/03, 8/15/03, 8/25/03/and 8/28/03.

Checked out this site before i decided to post this and saw someone else complaining about it, and frankly, i really thought i would find more people with the complaint.i bought the 2002 pontiac sunfire with 22000 miles on it. Upon purchase i noticed that out of the 5 settings for the blowersthe first one didn't work.honestly, i didn't care that much at that point- all the others worked,so no biggie.through out the past couple of years, slowly one by one all the others stopped working too, except the highest blower.basically, i was either on high or not one at all.still, at this point, i could notcomplain that much. But when i mentioned the problem to both my mother and a friend they both had the same problem.my mom's car, a grand am,was down to 3 settings, and my friends vehicle,a pontiac, was onthe last setting too.when this winter began i figured i should break down and get it looked at.the nice man at the pontiac dealership informed me it was going to be a good chunk of change to fix the problem, though he opted against telling me what exacally the problem is, and i neglected to ask.but after hearing other complains i started to wonder if it was a pontiac thing. And though it may not be considered a 'safty' issue, if not fixed it probably couldbecome one.

I have a 2002 sunfire that i purchased on february 28, 2002, and it has already been in to be worked on several times. Both window motors have been replaced, the rotors have been replaced, the passenger seat had to be replaced due to a broken support in the back, the passenger side door lock had to be replaced, the cigarette lighter fuse had to be replaced, and the trunk latch had to be replaced because the trunk would not shut. Runs good but has had so many problems that i would definitely hesitate before buying another pontiac.
