My turn signals have been acting up lately. After doing some research online, i decided to file the claim-seems i am not the only one having the same problem.when i use my left turn signal, more often then not it doesn't work,my dash lights flash and my windshield wipers will not shut off. When i use my right signal, the dash lights flash but my windshield wipers only stay on for about a minute. If i have my headlights on (for night driving) the wipers are on constantly. Also, my windshield fluid does not spray.i had the wiring replaced some time around when i purchased it 4 years ago (old part not available). It corrected the problem for about a year, however since then it has been a come and go issue.

I have had my vehicle in for brake repair several times in the past 3 1/2 yrs. At least 5-7 times. My car is now experiencing several electrical problems with a plug under the harness and with the computer system and wiring. My car will not start for several days and then it will start, only to breakdown againwhen it heats up. It has also cut off while i was driving 70 mph on the expressway.it has been towed 3 times in three weeks for repair due to these problems. I've spent several hundred dollars trying to fix these problems and nothing seems to work. The plug under the harness was melting through my back floorboard, melting my carpet with the potential to catch on fire. I was informed by the service men that i'm experiencing computer and wiring problems. They advised me to contact my insurance company regarding totaling my car out because it has great potential to catch on fire. I contacted gm's customer assistance center regarding all of the problems i'm having and they are not willing to help due to my car being 3 1/2 yrs. Old. There have been several other small issues with this vehicle, but this car is very dangerous and i cannot afford to keep wasting money on repairs. I think a car should last more than 3 1/2 yrs! july 26th 2003 was the last tow date and it's still in the shop. Can you help?*ph

While on active duty in the army, i purchased a used 2000 pontiac sunfire in georgia. The car began giving me problems only 6 months after the purchase. Luckily, i forced the dealership to pay for a warranty because i had to have 3 major repairs within a 11/2 after that.unfortunately, shortly after the warranty was up, i discover numerous other problems with the automobile, including the recall.this car is truly a lemon! i do not believe i should have to suffer with this defective car.i owe over 3 times the value of the car.even though i have all the documentation to support my good care and maintenance, no one will touch this car because it has so many other defects besides the recall (front end suspension issues, fuel tank). I am a disabled veteran now with only a small pension to support myself and two children. This car has been a nightmare since i bought it and fixing the ignition switch is not going to fix this lemon. I have put over $3000 in repairs on this car over the last few years aside from the monthly financed payments of $282 x 3yrs=$10,152 and i still owe $7800. The car is only valued at $2150. And when dealers look at the history of problems behind this car, they don't even want to give me $2000.

I would like to report a pattern of small (but annoying) complaints with the 2000 pontiac sunfire i recently owned. I state "recently owned" because i gratefully traded it in last week with just 56,234 miles on it on a new 2006 subaru impreza. I bought the pontiac new in 2000 and cared for it up until recently, when problems began cropping up on it like snowflakes in a blizzard. My sunfire ran well until about six month ago when i began to notice a burning oil smell from its vents. It turned out that it needed a new valve cover gasket that was causing a minor oil leak. Its exhaust system was also beginning to rust out. However, recently, a few lights on the dash cluster that illuminated the car's tachometer and shifter console went out-no reason given-garage said it would be a difficult repair. Then, about two weeks ago, the digital odometer began to go blank and show symbols. I had had enough, so i traded it in last week (after revealing to the dealer the problems that it had). I hope they can fix it up and provide it with a new owner-it was a nice car, but i don't think a car should begin to wear out that quickly-my previous car, a 1993 ford escort bought new, lasted me for over 120,000 miles before i traded it in on the pontiac. Again, gm needs to look into its quality-no wonder they are losing customers (like me) to foreign car companies.

Noticed thecoolant light kept coming on and off.added some even tho it said not before 5 years or 150,000 miles.car did not heat up on long trip from nm to ca. Dealer said maybe it was the computer chip. After checking it was told the bottom hose on radiator had a leak cause by loose motor mount and dogbone. Pontiac sunfire 2000will be driving the cars, it stalls out, then restarts without turning the key. Have talked to the pontiac dealer. Bringing it in on 12/20/2004 for further diagnosticsfrom what i have read this is a common problem related to a collapsed fuel strainer thatwill caost in the area of $200 to repair.odi action no. Pe02-66 was filed in 2002, needs to be pushed forward to hold pontiac accountable for their poor design.see (http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_42762.html) for further confirmation.

A few days after we purchased this vehicle we noticed that the engine made a "grinding, rough" noise when put into park.there is also a vibration that can be felt inside of the car.the first time the dealer looked at the car he said it had a "miss" and he pulled up information in his computer and noted that we were the 16th people to complain of the same problem.he pulled a car off the lot and compared it to ours.it did the same thing.he said there was nothing he could do to correct the problem.the second time we took it in for this problem they hooked the car up to the computer and said it was within specs.again, we were told nothing could be done to correct this problem.we purchased a new vehicle in hopes that there would be little problems with it.this problem with the engine will run into bigger, expensive problems. Car has had numerous problems since day one.brakes chatter, overheating, service engine light, cd player and speakers did not work.now it stalls with no warning at all.stalls at 70 mph going down highway.has stalled while driving 3 or 4 times in the past two days.checked out at service station on computer, and shows no problems.have read many complaints here about the exact same problem.bad fuel pump or something is causing car to stall.then it takes from 10 to 15 minutes to start again.some days it just won't start at all.have had car checked many times, and no one can seem to find the problem.anyone that can help here???i think gmc owes many, many consumers an explanation and repair of this very serious and potentially dangerous problem! *ph

My car is a 2000 pontiac sunfire, and twice within 12 months i have had the same problem with this vehicle. The day time running lights and the bright lights quit working , the 1st time the dealership said it was a badwire and replaced it, within one year it happened again, but thedealership said that the part was only warranted for 1yr or 12,000 miles of which the vehicle had been driven over the 12,000 miles, therefore i am having to pay again (twice in one year ) for the same problem. This is ridiculous!

Rear passenger side turn signal socket it is getting very hot and is melting bulbs and socket.have replaced bulbs various times with and without proper grease and no change.

"takata recall" while driving at night on a county road and switching from low beams to high beams, the headlights went completely dark and did not come back on until switching back to low beams.after inspection, noticed the day runners also were not working.all fuses were plugged in and good.replacing the relay did not fix the problem described herein.

Passenger tail light or brake light have been replaced several times. Fuses replaced several times. Once replaced bulbs defect within an hour or so. Dome light or over head light repeats same process. Vehicle's battery and terminals replaced with no change.$$$

Vehicle: 2000 pontiac sunfire the daytime running lights do not work; when the vehicle is put in gear, the lights "flicker" as the relay fires, but the lights do not remain on, then the "service" light comes on. About 75% of the time, the headlights will not turn on, and if they do, the bright lights do not work at all. You can "over-ride" the system by pulling the dimmer switch back partially, which then allows the headlights to come on. I have replaced the headlamp bulbs, and the drl relay, but the problem is still there. As i have been researching this, i saw a website called "carsurvey.org" where there are numerous complaints about this same problem on sunfires and cavaliers (1998 - 2002). Many of these comments say that according to gm dealerships, this is a wiring harness problem, and that gm is aware of this problem, but will offer no assistance in correcting it. My question to you is this: does your organization have to wait until people die as a result of this problem before you will get involved? i do not know if there have been any accidents as a result of this, but i have to believe that there will be. Please help!!!!!!

Dt*:the contact stated the service light illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealership.the dealership performed a diagnostic test and determined the wiring harness for the headlights needs to be replaced.

While driving during the daydaytime lights will work properly. However, when driving at night lights are unable to stay on,causingdriver to hold switch in order to have lights stay on.

For my car being a 2000, i have had more than enough problems with this car.for starters, i had a defect in the side window on the drivers back side, i had the line the antifreeze runs through replaced due to a hole being burnt through if from the battery, i had the molding in my passengers side door fixed twice, then i had a problem with my lights inside and outside not coming on,so the switch was replaced, and that wasnt the problem so then it was back a second time, and the computer was replaced, then they had to order me a new cd player because there is a problem with that as well. Then there was shaking in the car as i drove it, they tested it and said there was not a problem, a week later it was back and had coil wires and other things replaced due to the shaking, then the glass in my drivers side mirror needs replaced because now that isnt working.i am really tired of going back and forth to the dealership and i am hoping something will come out of this.i cant believe that buying a new car can have so much aggrivation, to be honest i am afraid to drive it long distances, considering i drive an hour to work every day.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac sunfire. The contact stated that the vehicle's turn signals would intermittently fail to operate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall that involved a similar failure (gmc recall number: 03043); however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 164,283.

Pontiac sunfire erratic fuel gauge.check gauge light on when it happens. *nlm

Consumer stated the vehicle would stall at highway speeds, the fuel filter intank strainer and fuel pump were replaced, also the vehicle had no power, the fuel filter line was replaced.

Fuel strainer clogged.fuel sending unit malfunctioning.erratic fuel gauge readings.the automobile has stalled 4 times due to a clogged fuel strainer.i stalled on interstate 10 in ms, alone, and was stranded a total of 4 times in the proceeding 3 days.even though there is an open investigation into this problem, pontiac service center claims they do not fix the problem free of charge.

I own a 2000 pontiac sunfire - purchased new.i had no problems until 2003 when my car would deccelerate for no reason while driving at any speed, hesitate while driving at any speed, or, after stopping at an intersection, simply would not allow acceleration.this has happened while trying to go through busy intersections.very scary.one day in 2003 the car would not start, so i had it towed to a mechanic to research this problem.he replaced my fuel pump but the car was out of warranty, so i paid for this repair along with the tow.it did not take long for the problem to occur again.what is going on?i take good care of this vehicle and, if the fuel pump was the problem, this should not be happening again so soon.second issue - early in 2004 i noticed the low coolant light coming on and off with no consistency.i checked the coolant reservoir and it was low.i added the proper coolant mixture but it didn't take long for the light to come on and off again - with no consistency.shortly thereafter the check engine light was coming on and off.i again took it to my mechanic who reset something relating to the check engine light.but the very next day the light was on again. Now, it is always on.please explain what is going on.i owe one more year on this vehicle and can't afford to have any major problems.the biggest issue is the hesitation and stalling of the car at anytime.there is no warning - it just happens.this is a disaster waiting to occur.my children ride in and drive this car.i don't need this worry on top of everything else.one more thing, about 1 year ago the air conditioner started malfunctioning.not sure if it is related to the other complaints.it only works if you have the fan on the 3rd or 4th mark.if you put it on the 1st or 2nd mark, it will work (but not to capacity) only while the vehicle is moving.if you stop, it stops.

Repeat issueon12-28-04 -cold weather, expressway speeds - no warning car lost power and stalled on expressway.finally restarted after tow truck arrived.stalled again on 12-29-04 same conditions - would not restart - towed to gm dealership. Fuel pump and system replaced.

Problems with 2000 pontiac sunfire engine.*mr the vehicle would crank sometimes but not start.on one occasion the vehicleattempted to crank and stalled in the process.the problem continued.the consumer was told that the starter had gone out, maybe there was an electrical problem, or the fuel pump.the fuel pump and sender ring was replaced.there was a burnt coolant smell and the valve cover gasket ruptured leaking oil. *sc

2000 pontiac sunfire experiencing fuel pump malfunctions at vehicle age of 3.5 yrs. Car has been taken to muliple mechanics, all of whom suggest pump malfunction and reccommend replacement of fuel pump, filter and relay valve.manufacturer warranty of 3 years or 36,000 miles has expired for this vehicle.car initially taken into pontiac dealership for servicing a problem with ignition. Engine would turn but not fire resulting in no ignition. Car owner paid for replacement of fuel pump, filter and relay valve.

Fuel was leaking underneath vehicle, contacted dealer, who towed vehicle and replaced fuel tank.tank was leaking around seals.

My car was driving perfect until 3 weeks ago, it has since then wont start back up. Thought it was something to do with spark, then tried spark plug wires, new battery, checked alternator and fuses, coils all good. Then i was lead to maybe the gas that was in it. Dropped gas tank, put new fuel filter, checked fuel pump, gas lines, it did stay running one time since but was shaking roughly with a flashing check engine light. Will not run anymore since then. Have not been able to drive my vehicle for 3 weeks now and it is my only car..also before the car started having the above problems my brakes kept getting tons of air also losing a ton of brake fluid, abs light stays on and all brake lines are good. It's dangerous. Also have bled the brakes. Not much help other than temporarily.

On 1-23-2000, my automobile, which is just 4 months old, started showing problems. Every time you applied the brakes, all the interior lights inside would go out.the following morning, i went outside to start my car to let it warm up, when i returned in about 15 min.the interior was filled with smoke and had a very strong odor like plastic burning.i took it to the local dealership here in town, they first said that they checked everything out and could not find anything wrong, just as soon as i got in the car and hit the brake pedal, all the interior lights went out.after leaving the car with them agian they found that the lead wire had shorted out on the passnger side and burnt through the carpet at ground point.i feel this could have been a major problem had the carpet ignited and especially beings it is a new auto.i feel this should be checked out and see if any other similiar problems have occured and these auto's should be recalled.

The transmission failed at 62000 miles.the consumer requested reimbursement from the manufacturer but was denied.

My daughters car was having starting problems (not enough gas getting to the engine to start, had to pump the gas). I took it for a test drive in a empty parking lot once it started. I was going approx 10mph the first time i pushed the gas pedal to the floor. When i released the pedal it stayed in place at full throttle. I pushed the breaks to stop the car and had to throw it into neutral before the throttle released. Scared the hell out of me!! thank god my teenage daughter never pushed the throttle all the way down!! i tried it several more times with the same results. Somehow the throttle sticking is tied to the transmission because, everytime, the throttle would released as soon as i put it in neutral. I donot have the vin because we took it to a shop tonight. Just thought i should warn anyone else with this vehicle. I had my daughter meet me in the parking lot and told her to floor it with the same results, and as i thought would happened she panic and only pushed the breaks yelling "ow god, ow god. I had my hand on the shifter and moved it to neutral. Against her will made her do it again and again so she could learn not to panic and put it in neutral in case this happens to her ever in the future. Should be a training in drivers ed.

Since purchased in april 24 2000, having transmission problems and defective transmission pan gasket and defective transmission pump has been replaced, grinding noises when car is parked.entire transmisson had to be taken out of vehicle and brake failure with in the 8 months of ownership.

My 2000 sunfire automatic car stopped moving on december 19, 2004 with 64,000 miles on it.i had it in the dealership in viroqua, wi on mon., dec. 21.they told me on dec. 22 the transmission went out and the part would be in at the beginning of january 2005.i called them every weekin the beginning of the month. I was told "i was on the top of the hundreds list to get the part."then the date was moved to the end of jan. 2005.i called them back on feb. 1, 2005 and they told me they didn't know when the part would be made and they have moved the place where they make the parts.i have a loaner car from the dealership, but i want my car back. Is there a major problem with the automatic transmissions in gm vechiles or in the sunfire car directly?

Prior to the transmission failing, i did get aengine check light about two months previous.when the dealership checked it out, they said the light indicated a problem with the transmission, but when they ran the computer checks they couldn't find anything wrong with the transmission.with no warning light on, the reverse gear went out on this car.when i talked with the dealership i was informed that my car was the second sunfire that they themselves had to replace the transmission in.when i called pontiac to inquire as to this specific problem i was told by them that "they don't keep those statistics".if that information is not kept by them, how do they ever know if/that they have a problem with their product?do they not have quality control??thank you for your assistance.

I was driving straight through a residential neighboorhood at about 15-20 mph, when i lost control of my vehicle, and crashed into a parked car.the cause of accident was unknown at the time, but there were several people including mechanics that have looked at my car and stated to me that the axle snapped in half. This would of occured before i hit the other car, because i was knocked unconscious from the deployment of the airbags, due to the snap of the axle.i have tried to ask many people to look at it, to see what they think would of been the cause, but they have said that they are not able to.many mechanics have stated to me that the impact of my car with the other car would not of caused it to snap.also, with the ways that the cars ended up together, there is no possible way.i would just like to know if there is anything that can be done to determin the cause of the accident.

Driving in a residential area at 15mph, car made a griding sound. Clutch froze, and transaxel fluid was dripping from car. 1st mechanic said differential pin came loose and blew off transmission cover, lodging itself in the transimission. 2nd mechanic confirmed. Both said that they have seen this before in pontiac sunfire's.there is no recall as of this date. Repair will cost me over $2000.

Consumer stated vehicle would not shift out of gear, the dealer replaced the transmission.

Consumer was traveling about 60mph on the highway and another vehicle hit consumer's vehicle from behind , anddriver's side seatbelt broke.driver went throughwindshield.dealershipwas aware ofproblem.

Consumer was having problem withbrakesbeforeaccident. While traveling approximately 15mph another vehicle stopped suddenly in front.airbag didn't deploy, and seatbelt restraint didn't lock up.consumer had complained almost a year about brakes. Dealer claimed they had checked brakes. Vehicle was take to another dealer, and they foundfactory seals still onbrakes.consumer suffered some serious injuries.

Iin december of 2004 my son was in the backseat putting on his seat belt and an it broke. Since then he has been sitting in the middle. About 3 weeks ago the same thing happened to the seat belt. On monday the 21st of march i was putting my other sons car seat in the car and was tightning up the belt and that one broke too. Now i have no seat belts that work in my back seat. I cannot beleive that they would break that easily. What if i would have gotten into an accident prior to this i am sure they would have broke. I have the car in for repairs to have the seat belts looked at. I just can not understand how they are made to brake when they are suppose to save your life!

I have put over $3000 in repairs on this car over the last few years aside from the monthly financed payments of $282 x 3yrs=$10,152 and i still owe $7800. The car is only valued at $2150. And when dealers look at the history of problems behind this car, they don't even want to give me $2000.

*ph

Last year i took my 2000 pontiac sunfire to the dealer due to it's leaking break fluid and loss of breaking power.the dealer replaced the break line going to the right rear brake.i was told that the crack in the line was due to "oil's and other fluids from driving on the road caused it to corrode and brake.i was charged approx. $250.00 for them to replace it.they said it was not covered under the 30,000 mile warranty.about a week ago i began to experience the same problem and had my son who is a mechanic, examine it since it is no longer under warranty, (it now has 35,000 miles on it.)he found that the left rear brake line is now broken due to the way the line was routed (by the factory.)it is broken just on the inside of the front, driver's side wheel due to rubbing against part of the strut mount.it seems to my that a care with so few miles which has been taken very good care of, should not be having this particular type of problem twice now in one year, on two separate brake lines.i checked your recall list and found nothing.i have spoken to several mechanics regarding this problem and all believe it to be some sort of factory defect.due to this information and the seriousness of this type of problem, i am filing this formal complaint with you and the ca dmv.please contact me regarding this complaint as soon as possible.thank you very much for your prompt attention.sincerely, ingrid c. Tipton.

The front and brake brake line rubbed through from rubbing against the left transmission mount, because a part was not installed during production. Had to make new brake pipes from bpmv back to the left rear of the racn and from the bpmv to the right rear of the car. By the time the brake indicator lights came on my son was almost without any brakes.he was just getting ready to leave for phoenix, az.if this would of happened on his trip, it would of resulted in his death.

While driving it was hard to turn left/right.dealership wasnotified, but did not resolve the problem.

Engine light always goes on and it is replaced constantly but still each new one comes on. My car is only 2 yrs. Old and i have replaced so many. Power windows work so slow and have repalced 2 already. Windshield washer delay hasnt worked.finally replaced.

While driving 5 mph, the vehicle acceleratedon its own. Uponparking neara stop with foot off accelerator and on brake pedal, the vehiclejumped onto the sidewalk.thefront needed to be replaced, and will cost $4,700.no police report.

No memory of the night of the accident i sustained life threatening injuries and my boyfriend died. My specialists out of state believes it was something known as sudden acceleration. This is a problem why does nhtsa keep ignoring that there is amore serious problem here instead of blaming the drivers.i'm still facing criminal charges due to this accident though the family has not pressed charges and has been very supportive of me ever since.something is really wrong with this picture that i'm being prosecuted for something that wasn't my fault and was car defect.

While driving heat indicates overheating. Would be leaking. Gives off an odor. Been to dealer & mechanic found nothing. Drove again & vehicle started smoking. Light came on for overheating. Put coolant in vehicle and called roadside assistance which was no help. Problem has happened at least 5 times. After visiting dealership 2nd time nothingwas being resolved.

While drivingconsumer was opening sun roof because it was locked up, and a piece fall off,and hit consumer on the face.dealer tried to repair it, placing it on track.
