Recall 98v146000.98026. Consumer contacted the pontiac manufacturer, and the contact person did not know anything about the recall on airbags. She stated that she did not have any information on the recall, and she could not help her withproblem,she also she did not know where any of the information came from regarding the recall.

Driving down the driveway onto road, approximately 5 miles an hour, suddenly both air bags deployed at the same time. Called gm and took car to gm dealer for inspection. Gm called to report that it was a gm failure and requested to (private party) purchase the car back from us at a current vehicle value of around $900.

The airbags have failed to deploy on two separate occasions and i have statements proving they should of. The fuel injectors damaged in the accident were fixed by newby auto 2 weeks later they were broken again they refused to redo them saying it wasn't the same one they fixed. They also refused to add an airbag check onto the estimate saying there wasnt enough damage to deploy them i have two other estimates totalling my car they refused to look at them and insisted it was ok and they would fix it unfortually they did not and it has had many problems since. Newby auto a pontiac dealership was located in richfield utah at the time they had my car they are no longer in business in richfield.

My wreck happened in 2006. The air bag deployed and crushed my face i had to have titanium plates put in my face crashed my legs broke many bones.

The dealer stated that the estimate repair cost would be $2,100. There were no warning lights present on the dashboard. There was no damage to the vehicles involved in the crash.

I was a passenger in the car, so i don't know specific mileage, or vin number.the car had approximately 80,000 miles on it.the accident occurred on july 5, 2002.it was a fairly low speed crash, mye estimate is we were going about 30 mph at impact.we struck the car in front of us. The airbag deployed in my face.i was wearing my seat belt and was not sitting particularly close to the airbag.the force of the impact from the air bag, broke my nose and resulted in permanent damage to my eyes.i was the only person injured in the accident.

-the horn on 1996 pontiac sunfire has quit working and been repaired threetimes.the people at the shop said that it was getting wet apparently everytime i went through water because of it being pointed downward.-the muffler has been fixed three times -there are more that i can not remeber right off hand-their is an electrical problem with the whole car.the light on the radio time and staion display has not worked since i bought it, the driver's rear door light has not come on, the passenger rear window lets down but will not let up when needed since right after i got the car, the lights in the dashboard go on and off without even being touched, while riding down the road, the widshield wipers will just come on without being turned on and then stop halfway down impairing vision, the passenger rear tail light blows all of the time, it has never stayed with a bulb that works, etc.-the valve cover gasket leaks and has leaked since i got it-the gas light will not tell you when you are running low on fuel -the radio will eat your tapes since i got the carthe transmission has been replace on the car with less than 80,000 miles on it -the rack and pinion had to be replaced a few years ago along with the complete brake systemthe power steering has leaked fluid and will stop turning in the middle of a turn. I have almost wrecked on it sveral times because of it and the brakes.-the air conditioning compressor works when it gets ready to if even then and has always done that.

Headlights go out intermittently while driving. This has been repaired numerous times, the problem is a splice in the wiring.the high beams were inoperative and the daytime running lights flashed while driving. The dealer replaced the instrument panel cluster.the vacuum actuator was sticking which caused the heater control not to blow on the setting selected.the mufflers hanger broke and the baffles were loose which caused rattling at idle.*scc*nlm

When the consumer attempted to start the vehicle the ignition failed to turn, when all of a sudden smoke emitted from the steering column. The consumer contactedthe fire department and they disconnected the cable and battery. The key no longer turned the ignition, the car was sent to the dealership , however they refused to fix the vehicle, because they claimed that smoking of a vehicle was not under warranty. The fire department had to fax them a notice that is was a fire. Dealer notified.

Horn assembly volume is very low.in an emergency it will be impossible for one to hear the horn. Consumer has contacted the dealer. Horn was replaced by dealer due to it sounding distorted.front brake rotors out of round and were replaced.

City in heavy traffic in front of the waldof astoria hotel on park ave accompanied by daughter who i was taking to mt. Sinani hosp. For treatment.the engine warning light began flashing it flashed about twenty times i then heard a loud pop sound and lost power toa 10 mile an hour speed.this was a servere saftey problem for myself my daughters ,other motorist and thegeneral public at large other cars and trucks had to execute evassive manuevers to avoid hitting my disabled car i was able to direct my car to a safe side street.this car is a time bomb becauseof general motors inability to resolve my persistant and inherient problem that has caused this auto to be towed to their repair shops three times as well as driven in 3 times for the same problem i am still paying off this car and the dealer has informed me my last bill including towing which came to $500.00 is my responsibility because of the cars current miliage. Aside from that this car is a danger to the public at large by me notifing you of this condition i am hoping that if myself or anyone of the general public suffers damages or loss of life general motors will become liable.thank you james w. Consumer tried to start vehicle,but itwould not start. Consumer tried again, and noticed smoke coming fromignition area, engine was shut off. 10-15 minutes later, vehicle started on its own without key in ignition, consumer shut off engine again. Damage to vehicle unknown at this time, recall letter was received after this incident.

Vehicle would not restart after being turned off 1 minute.vehicle restarted involuntarily when key was turned to lock position. Vehicle repeated the same. It was driven for 7 minutes, and after it was turned off it failed to restart. Recalled nhtsa 02-v-070-000/ manufacturers recall 02008 concerning ignition. Responded for appointment.

Low beam headlights go out without warning, we have replaced bulbs and checked fuses.

I read in the sunday march 3, 2002 chicago tribune, about the l8 reports to date alleging a steering column fire in pontiac sun fires.i wish to report the same incident for my l996 sun fire.i am the original owner.

I purchased a 1996 pontiac sunfire in july of 2003.i previously owned a 1997 sunfire and didn't have any problems like this.the most serious issue is when i turn my headlights on, the fuse blows and the tail lights and the dash lights(lights for speedometer, tachometer, fuel and temp gauge) do not work. I almost got into an accident when my lights and dash failed me.when i was trying to replace the fuse sparks flew out and the fuses blew immediately.i feel it is a manufacturer defect.it is going to cost me a large amount of money to have this fixed.gm also wont give me the time of day when i call and complain.i think that there should be at least an investigation.( * number of failures is approximate there are more.i thought it would be fair to state the very least amount i have counted.)also my vehicle has been inoperable for several weeks. (this vehicle has 106,000 miles on it)thank you for your time.

The contact owns a 1996 pontiac sunfire.within a week of purchasing the vehicle, it began overheating.in addition, the headlights would remain illuminated when the vehicle was turned off, wiper fluid was leaking, and the muffler made a loud noise.the contact has not been able to reach the dealer since the vehicle was purchased.the failure mileage was 136,050.updated 10/03/08 updated 10/06/08.

Head gasket on my 96 pontiac sunfire blew and caused my car to stall in traffic and almost caused an accident with my family aboard. My car went from 195 operating temp to 260 with in 1 minute. The car could have caught fire and caused tremendous injuries.

Water pump had to be replaced at 43,000 miles as it had a hole in it and was leaking. Oil leaks in several places, oil coming out of exhaust pipe, check engine light keeps coming on.replaced gasket between the transmission and engine due leaks. Currently,the clutch sticks intermittently and i sometimes can't get the transmission to go into reverse.had to replace high-pressure power steering pump due to leaks. Electrical system currently has a problem whereby i can't turn on the car alarm, the sensor alarms don't function right,drivers-sidewindow only works intermittently and i've burned-out about 5 fues in six months. Driver's leather seats rippedat the sewed ribbing at around 15,000.the trunk hydraulic lift pumps stopped working at 25,000 miles,and the trunk-lidwouldn't stay up and it's a heavy trunk lid to hold open and try to put something it at the same time.back-up lights stopped working at 10,000 miles. Driver's-side seatbelt is twisted, and the seat casing holder for the seat adjustment broke-off. There has always been a rattle in the right rear trunk area?

My car is barely three years old. This shouldn't of happened.the garage where i took this to said a week ago another sunfire was brought in with the same problem. Also, a friends brother last summer took his 95 sunfire into the dealer also with the same problem .

Catalytic converterfailed at accordian-like shock absorber at high speed. Was upset to learn that replacement part was dealer-only item and cost $420.00 dollars plus $40.00 dollar core charge. Wheel studs (three)on passenger side front wheel failed during highway trip in june of 1999. Two more failed during august of 2000. Have been told, could be overtightening issue, but have not had problem with remaining studs on other wheels. This could be very serious safety concern. Interior dome light has intermittent malfunction which causes light to remain lit indefinitely. Has happened several times. Had to turn light off by pulling dome light fuse or disconnecting battery each time.

The vehicle was parked and the consumer noticed oil was leaking from underneath the vehicle. The consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer for analysis and the mechanicnoticed that the head gasket neededto be replaced due to deterioration.the vehicle had also been losing coolant for the past year and exhibited a coolant smell. *sc

At 72,000 miles the head gasket blew and the head was cracked. Only had the vehicle since february 1999. All previous recalls on vehicle were not handled by dealer before purchase. This information was discovered several months after purchase. Information obtained determined that gm recalled the quad 4 engine for previous vehicles 1992-93 due to the same problem with the engines.gmc refuses to accept blame.the repairs of the engine will cost $2,650.00 due to this problem.

Thumping noise in front of vehicle--wheel bearings replaced. Pan/oil gasket replaced. Corroded wiring for gas gauge. Repaired rear chassis. Exhaust system and sender assy replaced. Heater pipe leaking. Worn tensioner replaced. New engine. Pistons replaced.

Head gasket leaks and antifreeze is leaking onto engine.gasket and antifreeze needs to be replaced.

Vehicle has a cracked enginehead gasket which is causing an oil leakage. Manufacturer has been notified.

Engine spun the # 4 rod bearing, causing the rod to snap and putahole in the block the size of an orange. Previously replaced engin epistons/timing chain and sprocket.

Engine oil pan gasket failed, resultin gin an oil leak, also replaced transaxle and stereo.

I am filling this out becase i am trying to find the information on the head gasket reall on my car. The head gasket has blown again, and i believe i am still covered.

Electrical system currently has a problem whereby i can't turn on the car alarm, the sensor alarms don't function right,drivers-sidewindow only works intermittently and i've burned-out about 5 fues in six months. Driver's leather seats rippedat the sewed ribbing at around 15,000.the trunk hydraulic lift pumps stopped working at 25,000 miles,and the trunk-lidwouldn't stay up and it's a heavy trunk lid to hold open and try to put something it at the same time.back-up lights stopped working at 10,000 miles. Driver's-side seatbelt is twisted, and the seat casing holder for the seat adjustment broke-off. There has always been a rattle in the right rear trunk area?

The engine in my car has literally failed on the freeway 2 times.i could have been killed and general motors will not help me and the dealer will not replace the engine free of charge.i cannot believe that gm will not stand by their product. While driving at highway speeds vehicle completely shuts down without warning. Dealer replaced the ignition controlmoduleand the right lower control arm, which did not correct the problem.please give any further details.

I have constant problems with this vehicle.major difficulty stopping when pavement is wet.my complet brake and rotors have been replaced on at least 3 occasions.i've also had problems with leaks, right rear window has been replaced.problems with vibration when at a standstill, almost losing power.smell of gas fumes.problems with the transmission.

Noise from the exhaust system continually, replacement of the muffler on two occasions and tail pipe did not remedy noise.

The airbags have failed to deploy on two separate occasions and i have statements proving they should of. The fuel injectors damaged in the accident were fixed by newby auto 2 weeks later they were broken again they refused to redo them saying it wasn't the same one they fixed. They also refused to add an airbag check onto the estimate saying there wasnt enough damage to deploy them i have two other estimates totalling my car they refused to look at them and insisted it was ok and they would fix it unfortually they did not and it has had many problems since. Newby auto a pontiac dealership was located in richfield utah at the time they had my car they are no longer in business in richfield.

Have been told, could be overtightening issue, but have not had problem with remaining studs on other wheels. This could be very serious safety concern. Interior dome light has intermittent malfunction which causes light to remain lit indefinitely. Has happened several times. Had to turn light off by pulling dome light fuse or disconnecting battery each time.

Head lights do not illuminate road effeciently.

While driving vehicle during the day, daytime runing lights would flicker on & off. It does not happen all the time. Had taken to dealer & mechanic had to replace the relay switch & i p cluster.

I had the fuel pump replaced on this vehicle in december 2006.i have been given information indicating this pump is in the suspect group of pumps covered by the delphi recall number 07e-015.i contacted the number listed, and was told that since someone else had entered information on the vin that they will not tell me anything.they refused to tell me how to have the inspection or reimbursement done.this vehicle was wrecked by my daughter in march 2006,and there is an ongoing investigation of the abs system also.

Vehiclehad a gas odor.forpast weekodor became very strong. Consumer took vehicle to dealership, who found that the fuel injector in the #2 cylinder was leaking. Spark from cylinder could have started a fire.as per dealer, thiswas a "fire hazard, " and would not startengine. Manfacturer has advised consumer that repairs will not be covered.

Thumping noise in front of vehicle--wheel bearings replaced. Pan/oil gasket replaced. Corroded wiring for gas gauge. Repaired rear chassis. Exhaust system and sender assy replaced. Heater pipe leaking. Worn tensioner replaced. New engine. Pistons replaced.

Through my experience, and reading the postings of many other owners of sunfires, i have noticed a large number of reports of inaccurate fuel gauges.my experiences are it will jump about a quarter of a tank while driving down the road, and then go down normally from there, but when i start the car again, it will be where it should have been in the first place.but, sometimes, the gauge will jump, and about ten minutes later drop at an alarming rate.then there are times that it operates normally.i don't want to be stranded by an innacurate fuel gauge.i know they aren't calibrated exactly, but it still shouldn't jump all over like it is.thank you for your time.

My vehicle has a very strong gas odor. The problem is with fuel injectors.mechanic states the car could catch fire and will not pass inspection. The fumes are so strong it causes the driver to feel ill and complains of headaches and could possibly become dizzy causing driver to lose control of car. Very dangerous!!

At the end of june (2001) my drivers side door would not shut.i had the lock replaced.this month (08/2001) my passanger side door lock is not working.my door can not be shut .i have to replace the lock.

Defectin emergency brake caused the vehicle to roll into neighbor's house, vehicle was put in first gear ,and emergency brakewas pulled into correct position.

Total transmission failure with no warning at all.

In the morning when moving the pawl from park to drive, and when transmission shifts from first to second gear, vehicle will feel like somebody had bumped it on the rear. Taken to a technicianwhosaid that problem was with the power control module.

The automatic transmission input drum broke where the shaft and the drum was welded together.

When turning off a road onto a highway, i noticed that the car was stuck in 2nd gear.i carefully drove to the nearest gas station.now the car won't engage on reverse, drive, 2nd & 1st.

Transmission lagging time is abnormal.

I have constant problems with this vehicle.major difficulty stopping when pavement is wet.my complet brake and rotors have been replaced on at least 3 occasions.i've also had problems with leaks, right rear window has been replaced.problems with vibration when at a standstill, almost losing power.smell of gas fumes.problems with the transmission.

When driving at any speedvehicle won't shift.also, vehiclevibrates due to the governor gear insidetransmission malfunctioning.

Transmission failure seems to occur with no warning. This vehicle was 4 weeks passed the 3- year warranty when the transmissiom flew apart. Pontiac would not cover any cost of replacement. The transmission had a defective part, and should not have failed. I have owned gm products for over ten years. Gm has now lost a customer.

-the horn on 1996 pontiac sunfire has quit working and been repaired threetimes.the people at the shop said that it was getting wet apparently everytime i went through water because of it being pointed downward.-the muffler has been fixed three times -there are more that i can not remeber right off hand-their is an electrical problem with the whole car.the light on the radio time and staion display has not worked since i bought it, the driver's rear door light has not come on, the passenger rear window lets down but will not let up when needed since right after i got the car, the lights in the dashboard go on and off without even being touched, while riding down the road, the widshield wipers will just come on without being turned on and then stop halfway down impairing vision, the passenger rear tail light blows all of the time, it has never stayed with a bulb that works, etc.-the valve cover gasket leaks and has leaked since i got it-the gas light will not tell you when you are running low on fuel -the radio will eat your tapes since i got the carthe transmission has been replace on the car with less than 80,000 miles on it -the rack and pinion had to be replaced a few years ago along with the complete brake systemthe power steering has leaked fluid and will stop turning in the middle of a turn. I have almost wrecked on it sveral times because of it and the brakes.-the air conditioning compressor works when it gets ready to if even then and has always done that.

On 01/30/1999 after makeing a left hand turn my car lost all power.after having it towed to browns transmission service inc, 1035 wells ave, newark oh,43055;i found out that the transmission would need to be over hauled to replace the torc converter.the repair bill was $960.00.

Engine oil pan gasket failed, resultin gin an oil leak, also replaced transaxle and stereo.

Right axle broke out of the transmission jerking the car harshly to the right and into a curb,front right tire was pushed back towhere the front right clip and the door jam meet.

Driver's leather seats rippedat the sewed ribbing at around 15,000.the trunk hydraulic lift pumps stopped working at 25,000 miles,and the trunk-lidwouldn't stay up and it's a heavy trunk lid to hold open and try to put something it at the same time.back-up lights stopped working at 10,000 miles. Driver's-side seatbelt is twisted, and the seat casing holder for the seat adjustment broke-off. There has always been a rattle in the right rear trunk area?

Consumer had the clutch replaced three times, this is the fourth one that's in. Pontiac says clutch slipping cannot be duplicated.

Exterior lights failed only daytime running lights work/ faulty emergency brake constantly having it adjusted/ seat belt cover on driver seat belt broke off will burn skin during summer months/ rear hazard lights do not work took car to dealer for original recal were working fine and have failed twice since and dealer states i am liable for all charges

Consumer complains that position of the shoulder belt causes belt to press on neck.

Driver's seat belt cuts into neck and leaves red marks.

The passenger seat after 32,000 miles will no longer move forward or backward making it a safety issue for the passenger sitting in that seat.when i took the car to taylor pontiac in akron, they told me that the tracking would have to be replaced and told me it would cost around $150.00 for parts and labor.a friend of mine also has the same problem with his 95 sunfire.i find it hard to believe that this is just a coincidence.my car has low mileage and the passenger seat has not been abused for this problem to be happening.i have never filed a complaint about any car that i have owned but i have had several problems with this car since i have purchased it and it has already been recalled twice.i do not think i should have to pay for this repair andwould appreciate any help concerning this matter. My wreck happened in 2006. The air bag deployed and crushed my face i had to have titanium plates put in my face crashed my legs broke many bones.

When applying brakes the vehicle shakes excessively.brake rotors have been grounded down 3 times, and still have the same defect. Dealer says it's no defect.

1996 pontiac sunfire 2.2l. Rear right brake locks. Causes the car to shudder and difficult to stop. This also causes the abs and brake light to illuminate on the dash. Brakes have been replaced. Possible failure to stop is the greatest concern. This may lead to accident.

1996 pontiac sunfire brakes failed while attempting to stop vehicle.the consumer ran off the road and struck a wooden gate.

Brakes failed to stop vehicle when applied, brakes then "kicked in" and vehicle stopped suddenly. Both times conditions were dry and sunny.on rainy days brakes feel "squishy" and extra effort is required to stop vehicle.

February 2007 had vehicle serviced and was told rear calipers needed replacement.work was completed totaling $875.within a week, the brakes locked, causing the vehicle to skid and failure to stop. Nearly hit a pedestrian in cross walk at 20 mph.returned to service, was told adjustments needed to the abs brakes system.service completed.4 weeks later thevehicles brake system locked up and a grinding noise occurred. Returned for service, pads replaced, brakes adjusted per the mechanic.3 months have passed now and now the abs brake light illuminates periodically and now within three months of replacement of the brake pads and adjustments to the abs system, i again notice the vehicle veering right when applying the brakes and the rear brakes tend to lock at speeds of 20 to 35 mph with a light scrapping and/or grinding noise again.the mechanic informed me they have completed and repaired the brakes to the vehicle specifications and cannot service ore repair it any further.after further research, it appears several others have had the same problem or incident occur, unfortunately resulting in a crash.i am requesting a further investigation to be completed on the gm abs systems for this vehicle.brakes should not have to be repaired or replaced 3 times in a two year time span.there is definitely something wrong with the assembly or design of this abs system.i have replaced the rotors, brake pads, calipers on this vehicle totaling nearly $2,000.i must commute to work on two major freeways in los angeles, which if an abs failure occurs, could result in a crash with severe or fatal injuries to myself and/or passengers in the vehicle.

I had the fuel pump replaced on this vehicle in december 2006.i have been given information indicating this pump is in the suspect group of pumps covered by the delphi recall number 07e-015.i contacted the number listed, and was told that since someone else had entered information on the vin that they will not tell me anything.they refused to tell me how to have the inspection or reimbursement done.this vehicle was wrecked by my daughter in march 2006,and there is an ongoing investigation of the abs system also.

Anti lock brakes failed resulting ina vehicle collision.

Horn assembly volume is very low.in an emergency it will be impossible for one to hear the horn. Consumer has contacted the dealer. Horn was replaced by dealer due to it sounding distorted.front brake rotors out of round and were replaced.

Within a week of noticing this problem, i notice the steering column seemed loose and when it was difficult at times when turning left.in one incident, nearly lost control of the vehicle when another vehicle veered into my lane on the freeway at speeds of 65 mph.i had to over compensate the immediate turn to avoid loosing control of the vehicle and crashing.march 13, 2009 - noise heard when turning or steering the vehicle. Check power steering fluid - slightly low, added power steering fluid - noise went away.march 14, 2009 - noticed power steering fluid leak near both front wheels.noise again heard - it appears the rack and pinion steering is the problem.this was a previous recall by gm (nhtsa no 02v286000) and my vehicle was repaired in 2003 based on the recall.further research indicates this has happened to other consumers after the repairs had been made by a gm certified mechanic at a dealership.the gm dealership does not want to repair their previous work at no charge.i believe this should be repaired at no cost to me, as it was a previous recall, serviced when notified of the recall and continues to be a problem that could or will result in a crash or injuries to the vehicle occupants should the steering lock-up due to the rack and pinion failure.march 15, 2009 - tilt steering does not work and the steering wheel locks in one position, all the way up and tends to extend more left than right.it appears a pin on the steering column has fallen out and is loose inside the steering column.removed ignition covering and found metal pin for the steering column had popped out, now causing the tilt steering to lock in the most upward position and extend left.results in the driver over correcting to make turns and a crash with injury whammy occur.

During operation smoke was noticed coming from underneath the dash board. Resulting in flames under the steering column, and the vehicle burning down.

I called a tow truck and was towed to jk pontiac on ogden avenue in downers grove, illinois.they informed me on july 6th that the rack and pinion had gone out of my car. I feel that my car has very low mileage for this to have occurred.i have never heard of anyone having their rack and pinion going out of their car, let alone for it to go out of a car at this low mileage.when i questioned the dealership they informed me that they actually had a pontiac grand am in the shop with only 30,000 miles on it that had also had the rack and pinion go out of it.this indicates to me that there is a problem that pontiac needs to give attention to.my incident, fortunately, ended with no accident, injuries or fatalities.however, had this occurred one day later, on my way to work, there is no doubt in my mind that i would have been seriously injured, if not killed.i drive five days a week on a major tollway (i-355) in the chicagoland area to and from work, usually at elevated speeds of at least 65 mph.if this had happened on the tollway, there is no doubt that it would be my family writing this, not me.i did contact pontiac regarding this, and they have agreed to pay for the parts involved in this repair.however, i am paying for labor ($350). *

Going around a curve too fast lost control of the vehicle androlled overthree times. Upon impact,airbags didn't deploy on either side.

On sun feb.9,2003 my rack and pinion went out of my car and is now not drivable . I started noticing problems the last few weeks a weird sound and problems turning left. I had it looked at by a mechanic and he said my rack and pinion went out. I do know several people have gotten recalls recently, but i have not and i have a 9 month old baby and single mother. Im just glad he wasnt in the vehicle or i wasnt on the highway wene this happened but now i am faced with the cost of repairing this, what do i do?

Dec 19, 2001 the rack and pinion in the consumer's 1996 pontiac sunfire failed.the consumer then received a recall in the mail and requested reimbursement which was approved.in march the steering rack and pinion failed again to the point the gear was stripped and the housing was cracked.the consumer requested a refund.

Numerous failures with my car i am only listing the ones which have happened more than once1..transmission failure, transmission failed 3 times first time while traveling 35mph car came to a dead stop tires locked up, car would not even roll, causing near accident. 2...window motors failed twice on each each door of my 4 door car3...headlight switch has failed 3 times causing dangerous situation at night4...severe water leak in trunk area , water getting in through fender well or trunk underbody, caused so much to puddle up a mushroom started growing from back seat,...water puddled underneath carpet in spare tire area so it was not visible to naked eye, but was sloshing back and forth with every stop and go of vehiclestill to this day have not been able to pinpoint exact location water is getting in although it for sure is from underbody5...other defects include radio display lights fail on 2 radios,seatbelts and steering wheel become too hot in summerbrake pads wear unevenly,,,, fuel pumps go out often.

Remote keyless entry transmitter fails to open vehicle continually.

Hood hinge failed causing rattle noise.

Convertible top leaks.

Engine runs hot at the very top of the gauge just before the over-heating mark on the gauge. Losing coolant. Car some times has trouble starting and back-fires. Water pump had to be replaced at 43,000 miles as it had a hole in it and was leaking. Oil leaks in several places, oil coming out of exhaust pipe, check engine light keeps coming on.replaced gasket between the transmission and engine due leaks. Currently,the clutch sticks intermittently and i sometimes can't get the transmission to go into reverse.had to replace high-pressure power steering pump due to leaks. Electrical system currently has a problem whereby i can't turn on the car alarm, the sensor alarms don't function right,drivers-sidewindow only works intermittently and i've burned-out about 5 fues in six months. Driver's leather seats rippedat the sewed ribbing at around 15,000.the trunk hydraulic lift pumps stopped working at 25,000 miles,and the trunk-lidwouldn't stay up and it's a heavy trunk lid to hold open and try to put something it at the same time.back-up lights stopped working at 10,000 miles. Driver's-side seatbelt is twisted, and the seat casing holder for the seat adjustment broke-off. There has always been a rattle in the right rear trunk area?

Was towing another vehicle behind the motor home when the frame of vehicle started to rip apart near towing bar. Had been to dealer & mechanic welded part back together. District manager was suppose to come check. Have not heard anything yet.

Cracks in the right front pillar moldings.

I was on vacation in wv.when i slowed to turn a corner i felt a thump under the car and the car lurched to the right.steering felt as if there was a flat tire. Had to pull hard right to straighten car then lost steering control altogether.i observed that the left wheel seemed to be sliding outward while the right wheel remained vertical..at mechanic's the following day we discovered that the subframe had rusted so badly that the left wheel assembly had fallen through it.the steel of the frame has rusted in layers - paper thin layers with heavy corrosion on all edges.i am apalled! i haven't even had to replace the muffler yet and the frame rusts through?very scary.

-the horn on 1996 pontiac sunfire has quit working and been repaired threetimes.the people at the shop said that it was getting wet apparently everytime i went through water because of it being pointed downward.-the muffler has been fixed three times -there are more that i can not remeber right off hand-their is an electrical problem with the whole car.the light on the radio time and staion display has not worked since i bought it, the driver's rear door light has not come on, the passenger rear window lets down but will not let up when needed since right after i got the car, the lights in the dashboard go on and off without even being touched, while riding down the road, the widshield wipers will just come on without being turned on and then stop halfway down impairing vision, the passenger rear tail light blows all of the time, it has never stayed with a bulb that works, etc.-the valve cover gasket leaks and has leaked since i got it-the gas light will not tell you when you are running low on fuel -the radio will eat your tapes since i got the carthe transmission has been replace on the car with less than 80,000 miles on it -the rack and pinion had to be replaced a few years ago along with the complete brake systemthe power steering has leaked fluid and will stop turning in the middle of a turn. I have almost wrecked on it sveral times because of it and the brakes.-the air conditioning compressor works when it gets ready to if even then and has always done that.

Front control arms on both sides cracked and almost fell off, which may have causedloss of vehicle control and a crash.please provide further information.

While driving at highway speeds vehicle completely shuts down without warning. Dealer replaced the ignition controlmoduleand the right lower control arm, which did not correct the problem.please give any further details.

Strut bearing plate:should not be faulty on a 1996, can cause loss of steering ( dot number: tire size: p195r6515 )

Thumping noise in front of vehicle--wheel bearings replaced. Pan/oil gasket replaced. Corroded wiring for gas gauge. Repaired rear chassis. Exhaust system and sender assy replaced. Heater pipe leaking. Worn tensioner replaced. New engine. Pistons replaced.

Wheel bearing seems to be going bad. The motor has been jumping when i take off from a stop light. I think the motor mounts might be bad. The car is a 96 and it has 109,000 miles on it.

My incident is not a failure, but a constant problem. Since i bought the car used in december of '03, there has been major hesitation when idle or accelerating. In february of '04 my fuel pump died, leading me to assume this was the problem. I purchased a new fuel pump and installed it. I just had to replace my fuel pump again because i was beginning to hear a high-pitched squeal from the pump and the hesitation had worstened (may '04). These problems are still there, leading friends to believe that this is a head/head gasket problem instead of a direct fuel system problem. My car has already stalled in traffic due to this on 4 different occasions (all within less than a week since the fuel pump repairs). I am now not able to use my car for more than small round trips out of fear of my car stalling and leaving me stranded.*mr

Water pump leaking half gallon or more of fluid everyday, causing low coolant light to come on. Local dealer wanted 7 hours and $600.00 dollars or more to fix. Catalytic converterfailed at accordian-like shock absorber at high speed. Was upset to learn that replacement part was dealer-only item and cost $420.00 dollars plus $40.00 dollar core charge. Wheel studs (three)on passenger side front wheel failed during highway trip in june of 1999. Two more failed during august of 2000. Have been told, could be overtightening issue, but have not had problem with remaining studs on other wheels. This could be very serious safety concern. Interior dome light has intermittent malfunction which causes light to remain lit indefinitely. Has happened several times. Had to turn light off by pulling dome light fuse or disconnecting battery each time.

Instrument panel fogs up, possibley due to moisture build up inside dash.

While going around corners, the steering wheel would lock up. The floor mat would get bound up in steering column. Mat is near firewall.

While driving with cruise control, cruise control disengaged, lost control and vehicle accelerated.

Driving onto ramp, braked to make right turn, vehicle suddenly accelerated across 3 lanes of traffic, vehicle hit guardrail, kept straight.

Shifted car into reverse and car accelerated,hit six cars .

While driving at any speed the consumer is having problems with the throttle cable which is causing the pedal to stick, and when applying the accelerator the vehicle isn't getting any speed.there was no prior warning.the vehicle experienced total loss of the throttle almost causing an accident, the problem with vehicle was recall but the consumes vehicle was not included in recall due to vin. The vehicle vibrates while braking due to warped rotors, the right front seatbelt was twisted, front brake pads were replaced.*sb

While driving accelerator pedal was stuck and went to the floor. Consumer applied the emergency brake and was able to pull over to the shoulder.then,had the vehicle towed.

Windshield not tinted, causing poor visibility during daylight driving from glare of sun. *sd

Windshield wipers stay in the middle of the windshield when the wipers are turned off.

During recent snow storm wipers stop in the upright postion. Then continue to stay in the upright position when the off switch is clicked. They do work but won't lay down they stay up. Also have seen on the road other sunfires with same problem. Wipers up. To get them to lay down must turn them on then pull fuse.
