The "service air bag" indicator in the driver information center came on during the normal course of driving and has remained on constantly since that time, approximately 1 - 1.5 yrs.this was not related to any accident.diagnosis using on obd scan tool was completed by a reputable local mechanic, who indicated that the passenger side seat sensor is defective and needs to be replaced.this appears to be a major safety concern since, at a minimum, the passenger side air bag has been compromised and may not deploy in the event of a crash due to this faulty seat sensor.further research completed by myself indicates this faulty passenger seat sensor may be a common problem in the pontiac solstice and saturn sky.this is a relatively expensive repair ($800+) by an authorized dealer, and the associated repair costs should not be the responsibility of the consumer to correct this safety issue.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. The vehicle was previously taken to roger dabb chevrolet (located at 1501 w government st, brandon, ms) where it was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired again due to the diagnostic fee. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000. Consumer stated light came on few months later after it was repaired. Updated 11/27/18
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact stated that upon starting the ignition, the passenger side air bag indicator illuminated intermittently with an occupant present. The dealer informed that the failure could be related to the inappropriate weight of the front seat passenger. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000. Updated 8/26/13
The airbag light will not go off.this is something that needs a recall as there are too many people with the same problem and it cost $1000 to repair.that is crazy for a car with only 40k miles on it!!!!
There seems to be an issue with the sensor that determines whether there is a passenger in the passenger seat.currently, the light signal that indicates whether the air bags are on or off when there is a passenger is in the vehicle shows the air bags off with a passenger present.i would assume that a sensor determines when a passenger is in the seat.as a result, if there was an impact, the air bag for the passenger seat would not deploy.this appears to be very dangerous and would cost a life if the impact was severe.
Service air bag light came on while driving with no passenger in the seat. Taken to gm dealer, was told that the passenger seat sensor failed (pss error). The vehicle has less than 16000 miles and the passenger seat was used perhaps 5% of that time. I was quoted $800 for repair since the bottom passenger seat requires replacement. This is in addition to nhtsa action number: dp16001
The air bag sensor in my vehicle failed shortly after i purchased the vehicle through a certified pre-owned program at a local gm dealership. Fortunately this module and needed repair is covered under the certified warranty, however, exactly one month after the initial repair i am getting the service air bag warning again, which denotes failure to the system. While the repair will again be covered under certified warranty, at this rate if this problem persists, eventually i will be out of the warranty period and this is a very costly repair for a part known for continued failure. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $800), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. Any passenger in the vehicle faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It has also been confirmed by gm that not replacing the module can lead to arbitrary inflation of the airbag.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact stated that she had received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags). The contact mentioned that she called the number provided in the recall notice and a representative informed her that her air bags were fine due to the fact that her air bag warning light had not illuminated. The contact was then informed that there was no need to have the vehicle serviced. Shortly after receiving the letter, the contact then stated that her passenger air bag off and service air bag warning messages had illuminated on her instrument panel. The contact called the same number back for a second time and was then informed that there were no recalls on her vehicle despite receiving the recall notice for her vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Got in one day and the air bag sensor light came on. Now it comes on and dings at me every day and until i get this fixed, do not feel comfortable driving my son to school..
Passenger seat air bag sensor failed on vehicle out of nowhere. I do not carry passengers in my car yet the sensor failed on me. I am not the first to have this problem and it actually seems to be a very common problem in pontiac solstice's and it's simply disheartening to see it. Http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/f12/panssenger-airbag-sensor-75353/look how far some of us have gone to attempt to fix this problem. From what we've discovered this is a problem that cannot be repaired and instead forces us to replace the entire seat cushion out of pocket. To make matters worst the point of failure seems to lie with gm. A defective sensor design has caused a very large amount of solstice owners to have issues. I don't think it's acceptable to make us pay upwards of $800 for repairs on something that is a common failure on so many of these beautiful cars.
Rear ended a vehicle, totaled car, airbags failed to deploy, broke ankle and heel.
The passenger air bag status indicator light will not come on when a person sit in passenger seat. The airbag readiness light on the instrument panel cluster is on the time and the service air bag display on the dic. The problem has to be in passenger seat system as it is separate from the driver seat.there has been a lot of problems this electrical and modules with the passenger seat that could result a death in a crash. A lot of drivers have had complaints on this airbag hazard on all 06 thru 10 pontiac solstice notedin the solstice forum. Please review the complains declare it recall. Thank you
Passenger presence module failed.
While making a low speed left turn passenger seat air bag "on" light dimmed.145 lb passenger was in passenger seat.dic warning message came on: "service airbag".1/2 hour later while going straight with same passenger in seat passenger seat air bag "on" light dimmed and then "off".stayed "off" for about 1 minute, then went back to "on".
The passenger air bag status indicator light will not come on when a person sits in the passenger seat. The service air bag is displayed on the digital instrument cluster. The early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. Any passenger in the vehicle faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It has also been confirmed by gm that not replacing the module can lead to arbitrary inflation of the airbag or failure of all air bags. I had it repaired todayfor $793.16a very expensive repair. For 47500 miles.
The airbag sensor under the passenger seat is malfunctioning. "service air bag" light is comming on it is my understanding that this is a very common problem for these cars and happens between 20k and 50k miles on car which is unacceptable. And extremely unsafe for a passenger in a convertible. This repair can cost up to $800.on top of that there are many documented cases where the new sensor failed within a year or two of being installed. This should be a recalled part. People shouldn't have to put in hundreds of dollars every few years just to make sure their lives ones are safe!
Dic alert to service air bag system. Comes on repeatedly and regularly and sometimes goes off. Many owners reported dealers diagnose as the following: faulty passenger seat weight sensor could be disabling air bags while passenger of appropriate weight (above minimum i.e. Child) is present.
I received the original recall notice in march 2017. In january 2018 i received a notice that the part was finally available. I still am continually being told by the dealer, devan chevrolet/buick wilton ct, that the part is not available, and that there in no eta for when it will be. The passenger side airbag does not function as a result of this issue.
Passenger air bag service light came on at 67k. The car was never been involved in any accident and has no damage. Took it to gm dealer, they want $900 to fix the faulty sensor what it should be a manufacture recall.
Don't know if this is related to takata recall or not. I want to know how safe am i driving a 9 year old car with no air bags working.cannot get it fixedbecause dealers say they cannot get the part from gm.meanwhile i feel i am driving an unsafe car with the airbag light on and a message stating check airbag settings.i assume this will not go away until the problem is fixed.i just have to hope that i don't have a serious accident.
Passenger seat weight sensor failed causing "service airbag" light to scroll on information display
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags). The part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated for approximately one year. Service air bag in dicturned on andairbaglight indicator for passenger seat turned off while the auto was zero (0) speed, driver's seat and passenger's seat were both occupied .this is a despicabledesign error as well as a real world operational flaw, a potentially fatal safety issue that thousands of solstice owners are experiencing and that thousands more will experience. How many fatalities must the american public endure before gm accepts full responsibility and finally, however reluctantly, cowardly, immorally, and deceitfully , correct this quintessentially death trap vehicle?
Check air bag light is on for 5 years now. I contacted general motors when it happened but they said it was not their problem, take it to a dealer. This just came on without any incident at all. Otherwise everything else is okay. Gmc refuses to help in any way.
The passenger airbag sensor in my vehicle triggered a "malfunction" light without any provocation.the stock part responsible and its identical gm replacement part is known to have a high failure rate.a pontiac service station quoted the repair at a prohibitive $800 and requires gm service device to be able to communicate with and read the cause of the failure rather than providing any specific information to the vehicle owner.documentation on this part states that it should be replaced immediately due to risk of arbitrary inflation or injury to passengers.
Passenger airbag sensors failed at 50,000 miles
After 60,000 miles, "service air bag" light came on referencing to the passenger air bag sensor in seat. Clearly this is a reoccurring issue. It needs to be addressed via the recall process.

While driving down the road with my girlfriend in the passenger seat my check airbag light came on and the oassanger air bag turned off. When i brought it to the shop they said the passenger air bag sensor in he seat broke.
There has been an open recall since at least jan. 2017. Passenger airbag. If an active fault exists in the pps system and a crash occurs, the sdm will not deploy the front passenger airbag. If an adult is occupying the passenger seat, the suppression of the front passenger airbag could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.manufacturer recall number n162080281. No remedy has been developed yet!remedy plans are currently under review. Gm will supplement this information when remedy plans are finalized. How much longer ???? every day it gets more dangerous!
Service airbag light is turned on while backing car out of driveway.after doing research online, i discovered this was a common issue.

Receiving check airbag message from passenger seat, mileage is 63k and 80% of the mileage was with only the driver's seat occupied.
The air bag sensor in my vehicle failed shortlyafter its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $1000), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. I believe this should be a recall, and the dealer should have to cover the costs not the car owners.this seems so much like consumer fraud to me.a thousand dollar part going out at only 35k miles that is an incredible nuisance.
Passenger air bag sensor has been improperly functioning.i thought it was because my daughter was too light to activate it.it finally quit working completely.the air bag warning light stays on and there is a warning every time you start the car.this tells me that the sensor is not working and the air bag may not work.research online shows many of this exact problem with this exact car.the gm dealer says it will be $900 to repair.i feel unsafe driving the car, as this is a very small 2 seat car and my daughter has no other choice of where to sit.this car has never been in an accident and has only 25,000 miles on it and has been very well taken care of.i do not understand why gm does not want to accept responsibility for this issue and replace the air bag sensor.an accident with this situation with the airbag not functioning could cause serious injury or death.
I took my 2008 solstice out of storage and was going down the road and got a message on the dic display saying the airbags needed service. I thought it was odd with only 25000 miles and being driven about 4 months out of the year. I looked it up on line and found it to be a common problem with the solstice. After about 10 calls to pontiac they agreed to have the dealer diagnose it and the dealer said the sir coil was defective and needed to be replaced at a cost of $212.00. My warranty has run out do to time and not the amount of miles. I have since been going back and forth with pontiac about them paying for the repair, however they always call back and leave a message at a time they know i'm at work. I paid over $30,000 for this car brand new and have had it dealer serviced regularly and feel pontiac should be held accountable for this problem. I car has now been sitting in the dealership torn apart for a week waiting for pontiac to give them the okay to fix it, this is criminal.
The issue started happening on a afternoon i arrived home with a passenger and thru out the time no lights/ message came on at all. So it was time to leave. I got on the car so did the passenger. Turned on the car and everything worked fine. As im driving ready to hit the stop sign all i hear is the chime, and the dic displays "service airbag" was pretty freaked out never had i seen that message before. So i turn off the car. Wait for about one minute. Have the passenger get of the car and i turn on the car back on. And no message came on. So the passenger comes (passenger weighs 140lb) and sits down and were driving off and then the message comes on again. Ever since then the message comes on every time i turn on the car. Honestly, its annoying. The worst part about it is that it went out at 29000. How sad is that? not even half the life of the car. If please can take consideration into this faulty part. Thank you.

Passenger air bag sensor failed. Service air bag light on.
From the beginning upon purchasing this vehicle we found the passenger sensor not functioning properly, duplessis gmc in gonzales, la could not locate the problem so after many efforts with them we got a local shop to install the new sensor that we purchased from duplessis. We are looking for compensation for that device and the labor to install it.this was an intermittent problem but never went away until we had this work done.i have records to prove this was done

Passenger airbag sensor located in seat failed, expensive part replacement, and recall on same style sensor in different cars.
Air bag sensor light came on. Dealer states that sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced.why has it gone out with minimal use?
Dic service air bag message came on. Passenger air bag off light came on with a passenger in the seat. Car was in motion in a parking garage.
The vehicle was in to the local gm dealer for regular maintenance service on 8/7/14.shortly after that, the indicator light came on showing that the air bag system was inoperative, apparently due to a failed passenger presence sensor on the passenger seat.took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told the repair was approximately $1,000.the car had fewer than 13,000 miles of use over six years.there is no excuse for a major safety component of the vehicle to fail.i also understand that this component has been recalled by gm on other vehicles.why has it not been recalled for the pontiac solstice?
Passenger air bag sensor failed at 67,000 miles.vehicle meticulously maintained and never involved in an accident. Dealer quotes appx $1000 for repair.incredible...

The contact mentioned that the air bag warning light remained illuminated after the recall repairthe manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. Due to recall had pps mat work performed (without air bag light ever coming on), only to have passenger side airbag warning light come on two years after recall work.airbag light now comes on upon startup.dealer says total sensor replacement required.pps mat failed - recall did not work.use vehicle only in summers putting limited mileage on
2008 pontiac solstice.consumer writes in regards to ignition switch , air bag and check engine light problems.the consumer had to replaced the ignition switch, the air bags did not work, the check engine light illuminated, and the radio would come on and go off by itself.the dealer cleared the computer for the engine light, and informed the consumer there was nothing wrong. However, after driving less than 10 miles, the check engine light illuminated again.

Passenger airbag sensor fault. Gm part number 19124219.passenger airbag remains at off all the time. Passengers are not protected.
My complaint is that the part is not available to fix the recall.i was informed it maybe 6 months or more until it is available.this being an airbag i feel that is unacceptable and a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, another vehicle crashed head-on into the contact's vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact mentioned that after the crash the air bag warning light illuminated. The driver from the other vehicle was taken to a hospital where there was one injury reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The airbag passenger sensing system has failed in my 2008 pontiac solstice with less than 20,000 miles on it. This car is near museum condition and there is no reason for this failure.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator did not indicate a passenger was present while the contact's wife was seated in the passenger seat. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The sungo dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The contact also refused to perform the interim repair due to the driver's occupant not being over 150 lbs. The "service air bag" indicator in the driver information center came on during the normal course of driving and has remained on constantly since that time, approximately 12 months. This was not related to any accident. Diagnosis using on obd scan tool was completed by a reputable local mechanic, who indicated that the passenger side seat sensor is defective and needs to be replaced. This appears to be a major safety concern since, at a minimum, the passenger side air bag has been compromised and may not deploy in the event of a crash due to this faulty seat sensor. Further research completed by myself indicates this faulty passenger seat sensor may be a common problem in the pontiac solstice and saturn sky. This is a relatively expensive repair ($800+) by an authorized dealer, and the associated repair costs should not be the responsibility of the consumer to correct this safety issue.
Air bag light came on. Both driving and stationary. Dealer told me it was an internal circuit short in the passenger presence module. Cost for repair was $1,000.00.vehicle only has 23,000 mi. On it.
At approximately 72k miles, the passenger air bag warning light has lit up on my dash, and it will not turn off. It happened at start up one morning in my garage.the warning now stays on all the time whether the car is stationary, in motion, on a city street or highway, turning, or any other type of vehicle situation.
Passenger airbag sensors failed at 50,000 miles, outside of warranty time limit. As a safety issue, this is something that gm needs to acknowledge in good faith.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact received a notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. Passenger seat airbag sensor failed. Gm issued no recall, yet did so for a known faulty sensor in a cadillac model. Safety is never out of warranty, yet gm refuses to address this issue in mine, and other model years of the gm solstice and sky. A detailed report was issued with nhtsa calling for an investigation: http://b17queenofthesky.com/sky/resrch/output/final_work/final_draft_20160209.pdf

The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated at all times while driving. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v061000 (air bags); however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to charles clark chevrolet (801 u.s. Business, mcallen, tx 78501, phone: (956) 307-6557) and bert ogden buick gmc (4216 us-281, tx 78539, phone: (956) 348-1113). The parts for the repair were unavailable so the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 77,635. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
I recently started a relationship where my significant other has children (about 4 months ago). I previously did not have passengers very often. While driving with my stepchild age 12 in the passenger seat the air bag system failed. While driving on the highway at 70mph the there was a chime from the car and the dash display said 'service airbag'. The air dic light came on, and the passenger airbag activation light switched to off. It turns out that the sensor in the seat is bad. This causes the passenger air bag to be always off, putting all my passengers at risk or serious injury or death. My car only has 56k miles on it, but a brief search has shown that this is a very common problem for 2007 and 2008 pontiac solstices -- often with miles in mid to high twenties. The failure rate of this critical system and the fact it defaults to always off with no bypass for selection presents a serious concern for the safety of my family. The cost of diagnosis and repair is just short of $1000, which means that a critical safety feature of the care that fails regularly with low miles and in my case very low use of the passenger side until recently will cost a much more than i can afford in order to keep my family safe. I have owned numerous vehicles with air bag systems and never had any issues.
In january 2014..my passenger airbag light came on the dic saying to service airbag??? i have very few passengers from time to time..maybe three a month..none are heavy enough as to plop down on seat with enough weight to inflict damage on whatever the problem may be!!! also, when i clean the car, i make certain as to not kneel or put any sort of weight as to break the circuit in which i've been reading about all the many others!!! has anybody given any thought that maybe it's a default?? it happens so very often with many of the other automobiles...so what makes our car any different??? it happens!!! as my word, i did nothing in any way, shape or form to damage it!!!! i love my solstice, but if nothing is done about this, i , my family, friends and whoever else i may informwill never do business with gm again..sorry, but this just isn't right...safety!!!lol

Car has 46k miles on it. Service air bag light comes on when key is turned on. Passenger airbag status is off with adult passenger. Light stays on with no passenger so airbags will not work. Passenger sensor has failed as it did in cadillac cts that were recalled. Why is my car not recalled since it is the same year and same part as the cadillac cts?
Air bag light came on. Dealer recommended replacing passenger present sensor which detects the weight of a passenger to turn the airbag on or off. The cost was $885.i can't afford to fix it, so i am riding around with nonoperational airbags with a car with only 34k.based on pontiac solstice forums, this is a common problem with pontiac solstice, but no recall to fix this obvious safety flaw. I would be glad to send you a copy of the dealer invoice with the error codes from 11/14/14.
Service air bag warning comes on intermittently while driving. Have taken car tofour gm dealer service departments. All told me that attempting to diagnose is futile because there are no fault codes stored in the car's computer (other than a general 0013 indicating driver's air bag deployment loop). Only when the service air bag warning is displayed will there be a fault code detailing the circuit involved. All service managers have told me that the car is dangerous to drive because the driver's air bag will not deploy when the service air bag warning is on.
Passeger air bag turns off with someone sitting in seat.
Car has been in for service 3 times for the passenger air bag turn off when it feels like it now the dealer tell me 120 pounds is not heavy enough it does not turn off in my other chevy's say they can do no more to fix it.
Ignition repair is still pending parts 6 months after recall is unacceptable for safety issue.day for day penalty should be imposed on gm for unacceptable delay is completing recall repair.

Tire pressure monitoring.this spring i took my car out of storage and reconnected the battery.i first noticed the remote entry fobs no longer would lock or unlock the doors.i started the vehicle and found the tire pressure information was not available on the dashon 8/10/17, i took my solstice to the chevrolet dealer in omak wa to have them troubleshoot the tire pressure monitoring system.a quick review by a technician told me that the remote entry needed to be reprogrammed.after personal research i found that this is a common issue to this year and several other models.gm wrote a technical service bulletin, 08-03-16-001b on july 31, 2008, acknowledging the issue of bad firmware but hid the information from their customers regarding this key safety system.it is my contention that gm did knowingly and willingly sell me a vehicle with known a faulty safety system and now refuses to correct the issue.i am asking the gm be held reasonable for their deceptive practice and provide all repairs required to correct the faulty safety system.i am also asking that i be reimbursed for all time and expenses incurred due to gms negligence.i also believe that due to gms deceptive practice of hiding known faulty safety systems fault should include punitive damages.
On a trip 6/14/14 half way to my destination, there was a light on the instrument panel showing a car/lock symbol. I checked all doors, trunk and hood, all were closed. Appx. 10 miles later i felt the power suddenly stall. The speedometer, tachometer and gas gage were all going up and down. The fuel light came on and started a warning signal. All system lights were flashing on and off. I pulled over and waited for a few minutes. In about one minute the lock symbol came on again. As i proceeded the same gauges started to go crazy. On approaching my turnoff, i eased off of the gas pedal and started to apply brakes. About mid-brake, the brakes suddenly locked and i was jolted. The following 2 stops were a repeat. I drove home next day at about 35 mph. A normal trip of 2 1/2 hours took over 4 but i was afraid of having the brakes lock on me. The local gm dealer was contacted for recall.it took from mid-june to sept. 12 for the parts to come in and be installed. The trip home was uneventful except for the key being very hard to turn. On 9/22 i had to make an approx. 400 mile trip. Feeling assured that all problems had been fixed, i drove the normal speed limit. Upon reaching my first destination the brake seemed to stop sharply. Believing that i was just overly concerned i continued to my 2nd destination. About 20 miles later lock light turned on followed quickly by the other monitored system lights flashing. The brakes locked as soon as i applied pressure. I was unable to use my cell or on-star. I went to the nearest gm dealer in pueblo. I had no money to pay for a diagnostic check. I was told by the same service agent that had changed dealerships that i would be safe as long as i didn't do anything "wild". I made the same 4 + hour trip. As i reached my home the car was breaking by itself. Replacing the recalled part didn't fix the problem. A recall on the recall?

Millage when replaced, 60,500. Date of repair service, 1/25/2013. What is most concerning is: 1.) dozens of such occurrences of same nature for the pontiac solstice have been reported to nhtsa year after year and still no recall. 2.) how many cars have not been repaired because of the high cost of the part and owners are driving around without an operable passenger side airbag? this is a safety related failure. It is also related to a part that should never fail. The part failure and cost has reinforced my lack of confidence in the gm brand. Unless i am eventually reimbursed, i will never buy another gm product for as long as i live. The absence of a recall brings into question the effectiveness of the regulatory mission of the nhtsa. If this doesn't qualify for a recall, what does?

Girlfriend sat in passenger seat and a "service airbag" light cam on my info screen. Turned off after a few seconds then turned back on and has been on since.
Thank you

The solstice maintenance light on the dash comes on intermittently reading "esc service".with that the brake lights would come on and stay on without the brake pedal being pushed.after shutting the car off it would reset itself. Now, as soon as we start the car,the brake lights come on and are staying on withought the brake pedal being pushed and there is no esc service light indication light illuminated.the brake pedal is high and hard to press.in addition we've experienced difficulty shutting off the cruise control.all of these symptoms are called out on a gm recall #13036 for over 2 million vehicles but the pontiac solstice is not listed under the recall.it appears it should be.all of the problems noted on this recall are symptomatic to what we are experiencing with our car.the car is not drivable at this point.it's noted on the recall that any of the above condition increases the risk of a crash. We contacted general motors and opened a claim.we are being told that any repairs / adjustments that are done will need to come out of our pockets as the pontiac solstice is not listed on this recall.this is a very dangerous situation and should be addresses expeditiously.

Passenger presence sensor failed on seat bottom after passenger sat on seat during freezing weather. Apparently an all too common failure for this model of car. No fix offered other than replacing entire seat bottom at a cost upwards of $1000. Car was stationary and in park.

Passenger airbag sensor located in seat failed, expensive part replacement, and recall on same style sensor in different cars.
The driver seat has excessive movement. When driving it feels as though you are not in full control of the vehicle as the constant changing of position during breaking and turning. After bringing this defect to the dealership they attempted to secure the seat with no improvement. After checking the stability of the driver seat on new stock cars in the showroom, they were all loose, and in one case the seat moved up and down and back to front worse than mine. I was informed that this is normal and not considered a warranty item given the comparison to new vehicles. Having seen this problem on other new vehicles it's evident that this is a serious defect. Driving that car with the seat moving as it does creates nausea and motion sickness.

After a hard brake on the highway, the car stopped fine with the abs brakes kicking in as needed.however, after the car came to a complete stop, we started to move forward, and the brakes would no longer function properly.as it came time to stop again, i pressed the brake to the floor, and nothing happened.i then proceeded to attempt to pump the brakes, but by that time, i was right up on the car in front of me, and i rear ended that vehicle resulting in damage to both that car and mine.given that i always had issues with the brakes not seeming to function properly after the car sat overnight or for long periods of time, i am unfortunately not surprised that this happened.the car sat all day while i was at work on a relatively cold day for me to have it on the road, and i hadn't used the brakes since the morning.just recently, the abs light had come on in the car, but after taking the car to the dealer, i was told that the issue was somehow related to the battery (which i subsequently replaced) and that there wasn't anything actually wrong with the brakes, but now i am thinking that was not the case.i own a 2008 pontiac solstice gxp and have had the car for about 3 years.
Parking brake does not prevent vehicle from rolling when parked on a inclined surface. Handle is extended to it's maximum position.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The contact statedthat while driving in reverse at approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The vehicle did not stop until after repeated force was applied to the brakes. The failure occurred only when driving in reverse. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 27,000.
On two separate occasions (the second date was about 2 months ago), i have had to make very hard stops at freeway speeds.both times, the car came to a stop with the anti-lock brakes functioning properly (brake pedal vibrations indicating correct modulation).once the car comes to a complete stop however, the brakes suddenly failed completely.the brake pedal goes to the floor with absolutely no back pressure.the car begins to roll again, indicating the brake caliper/pads have released the disk.the only way i was able to stop again was to pump the brake pedal, activating the stability control module to boost hydraulic pressure to the braking system.this seems related to the previous issue of brakes not functioning on start-up due to low vacuum.following a hard stop, the vacuum boost to the brakes apparently becomes depleted, causing braking system failure.i have reported this to my dealer and they have been unable to re-create the problem.due to the potential dangers this presents, i felt it important to report this since the dealership seemed unwilling to pursue the issue.
2008 pontiac solsticegxp brakes will not hold on cold starts and has been a problem since i purchased this car in 2007, however, the dealer has told me they haven't heard for the manufacturer regarding a brake problem.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice gxp. The contact stated that while reversing at 5 mph, he applied the brakes and the pedal depressed to the floor. The contact had to shut the vehicle off and restart it to regain brake control. The failure occurred at least three times. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who inspected the brakes and could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 39,800.
2008 pontiac solstice with brake problems. Consumer states that the brakes do not work first thing in the morning. Dealer told him it is due to rust on the rotor that needs to burn off. They also stated it was from being parked outside.
The brakes on our car have been an issue since day 1. They pulsate, don't fully stop at times and in a panic stop pull the steering wheel severely to the left, almost out of your hands. The dealer has tried, unsuccessfully, a computer download and telling us to warm the car up for 45 seconds before driving.
Everytime i start the car in the morning or when it has been parked for about 4-5 hours brakesfail to work, i have to leave thetransmission on "parked" for about 1 or 2 minutes or else i would have to press the brake pedal very hard to keep the car from moving, thisalmost caused a crash the first daysi had the car, this is a very dangerousissue.
Brake issue-i had no breaks when the care was cold.the dealer "reprogrammed" the brakes last week (7-19-08) however the reprogramming has made the brakes unusable when the care is cold.dealer said i just have to live with it, the car is a turbo and that is how a turbo works!please do something.
2008 pontiac solstice has no brakes when you first start up early morningpontiac say`s this is normal for this type vehicle. When is no brakes normal for a new car to have no brakes when you first apply.
Poor cold start braking on our 2008 solstice. If you forget to let the car warm up there is hardly any brakes at all.
Brakes, system on pontiac solstice .
I purchased my 2008 pontiac solstice on september 29, 2009. I didn't have a problem until i started it up and began to pull out of the nearby mall parking lot and as i went to press the brake, it made a low grinding noise, almost like the abs was locking up except the light wasn't on, and i was merely cruising, not even on the gas pedal. I rear ended the person in front of me - not bad, just knocking off my pontiac emblem on the hood, and denting it in slightly. The very next day, the same incident occurred. From these two wrecks alone, i received four tickets, resulting in my license being suspended, my insurance canceling on me, and setting me back a good couple of thousand dollars in court fees. I filed a claim with general motors in january once i did some research and found a bulletin on here about the brakes. They still have yet to do anything, even after i have faxed them numerous documents including my tickets, the bulletin, bill of sale, paper stating my license being suspended, and so on. Also, i even broke my toe from one of the collisions from where i had actually pushed down harder on the brake to make it stop. Robert bronson, my claim adjuster for general motors has spoken with me since january, (when i am able to get in touch with him) and has done absolutely nothing to solve this problem.
Brakes require excessive pressure on cold start. Brake is spongy at first then becomes hard causing the car to creep. Upon harder application they then snatch. Feels like that you don't' have full control of the vehicle and fear that you are going to hit something. After driving 100 yds the breaks function as normal.

The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice. The rear brakes had poor functionality during brake application.the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection, but the technician could not determine a remedy.the current and failure mileages were 17046. Updated 3/4/2010 updated 06/18/10.
I own a 2008 pontiac solstice gxp.when the car has not been driven for a while and it is started.. The brakes do not work!i have almost rear ended other motorists before and i have almost backed my car out of my driveway into oncoming traffic because i have been unable to stop!major safety problem!
Lack of braking after a cold start - vehicle inactive for a few hours.intermittent problem.
I just purchases a 2008 pontiac solstice gxp last week.since the first day, i have been experiencing major difficulties with the brakes.this morning, i was backing down my driveway and the vehicle would not stop.i just missed hitting another car by an inch or so. I called pontiac concerning the problem this morning and they related to me that they were not aware of any brake problem with this vehicle.i have an appointment with the dealer in the morning.i'm very concerned and afraid to drive the vehicle.
Pontiac solstice - 2008 gxpafter my car has sat for a period of time when it is started up again the car over revs and the brakes to not work. The first time i noticed it i was putting down the top and by the time i was done it has stopped revving. The second time a day later i was pulling out of my parking spot and headed toward a gate. The brakes would not work almost causing me to hit the fence. After i let it sit for a while it started working ok. Third time my wife was pulling out of our garage while backing down the driveway. The brakes did not work causing her to roll into the street. Good news is she did not get hit. Took the car to the dealership. Took 4 days to figure out the problem. I was told they had to reprogram the car but it should be fine now.after i picked it up from the dealership and drove home. The engine fan ran for 5 minutes after it was turned off.
I have a brake failure problem on my 2008 pontiac solstice gxp with 2.0 turbo engine. After starting car i proceeded to back out of garage, after backing up 5 to 10 feet i stepped on the brake to stop car and car would not stop. Had to push on brake pedal several times very hard and to pull on the emergency brake to finally get it to stop. If there had been anyone on sidewalk behind my at the time it could had resulted in a bad accident. Then i took my car to dealership and they told me they had never heard of this happening. After leaving car at dealership a day or 2i went back and they had found a service bulletin ( document id# 1982132 ) dated 6/04/2007 about this problem which stated that this was normal on the pontiac solstice gxp and the saturn sky and there was nothing they could do. After that i spoke with the general motors rep. And the service manager and he told me the same thing but he would check in to the problem and get back with the service manager with the findings. After a week i received a call from the service manager and was told that general motors was writing a new software program and that it would not be ready for 2 or 3 months. That was on november 3, 2007. After waiting for 3 and did not hear anything from dealership i called they and was told that the software was ready and i could bring my car back and they would install the new software to solve the problem. The new software was install on 3/3/2008. I returned to dealershipto pick-up my car only to find that the "new" software did not solve the problem and was told by the dealership that they could not do anything and that they were at the mercy of general motors to solve the problem. This braking problem was not a one time occurrence and it happens every time you start the car when it is cold, even after driving car and the letting it set 4 or 5 hours it does the same thing. So i consider this a safety issue and would like to have it resolved before someone gets hurt or killed.
1) started car and proceeded to back out of garage.applied brakes to stop car.2) car would not stop and continued to roll down driveway.nearly hit family car parked behind.brakes failed to stop the car until there was constant "pumping" of the brake pedal.3) car brought in to dealer and described problem with brakes.service advisor said the dealer will not fix.service advisor said there is no "fix" for this problem.service advisor admits this is a dangerous situation and someone can get seriously injured during this brake failure.4) vehicle is a 2008 pontiac solstice.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice.while driving 3-5 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise when the brake pedal was depressed.he had to shift into neutral in order to stop the vehicle.the dealer stated that there was a service bulletin for the failure, in which the manufacturer recommends not to repair the vehicle.as of november 20, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the failure mileage was 20 and current mileage was 550.
I purchased a 2008 pontiac solstice gxp.i am having problems with the brakes.if i take off right after i start the car, the brakes do not stop the car.i must wait a while before driving or pump the brake 3 or so times to get them to work.
Stated my 2008 solstice and proceeded to pull out of my driveway.i applied the brakes and the car would not stop.this happens everytime the car sits overnight.imust press down "hard" on the brake pedal and use the emergency brake.again rolled down the driveway.this condition will injure a pedestrian or cause an accident.nothing is being done by gm to correct the brakes.dealer did not explain how brakes work.no warning sticker.
Brakes would lock when i started moving vehicle even after 5 minute warmup.
We purchased the car with 67 miles on it,within a couple of days of driving the car we noticed if it sat for a long period of time that the brakes would not engage at initial start up. We would place the car in reverse and or drive press on the brake and the brake pedal was hard, you could not push it down to engage the brakes at all.we have had to use our emergency brake numerous times after start up to ensure while backing out of our driveway that our car would stop. We have taken the car to the dealership 3 times letting them know that something major is wrong with our braking system, they finally on december 19th replaced the ebcm, but this did not correct the issue, we still have no brakes at start up. Someone could get hurt or an accident could occur if this problem is not corrected.brakes in my eyes are an important feature on a car.gm needs to look into this.i am on a forum that has numerous 08's with this same issue all over the country, this needs to be taken seriously.
After sitting for extended period of time (3/4 hours) or when cold the brakes do not want to engage.it is almost as if the car is turned off and you are trying to apply the brakes. Had our car to dealer a few weeks ago. Were told that there was nothing wrong with the brakes. They printed out a bulletin that stated that all 2008 solstice, skys, and opel gts are subject to increased brake pedal effort due to low brake booster vacuum conditions. The conditions may exist when the engine is cold for the first few brake applications or when the vehicle has been parked for an extended period of time or at higher altitudes and restarted. The dealership was advised by gm to not to attempt to repair or replace any parts for what is considered normal operation. Some of this same information is buried in the middle of the owners manual. Subscribe to a solstice forum site and numerous people are having the same issue.does someone have to get hurt or worse before gm is forced to fix this problem? unless you sit in car with engine running for several minutes this happens every time the car is turned on.with cold weather beginning its only going to get worse.
On cold starts, when it is on high idle. The brakes are hard to apply, and hard to stop car. After about 20 to30 seconds they work as intended.
This complaint is identical to one already filed with the nhtsa, representing a potentially hazardous safety issue.while backing out of the garage from a cold start in my new pontiac solstice gxp delivered only one week earlier (mileage at one week=200), the brakes failed with the car in reverse and the car continued to roll backward (fortunately without power applied down a slightly inclined driveway.when put into drive, the brakes responded.later in the day, from a cold start, the brakes failed again momentarily while pulling out in drive.the dealer service department was very responsive and diagnosed a failure of the valve in the master brake cylinder that allows pressure to build up in the hydraulic lines.the part is on national back order as a stac order.i was told that no spare parts have yet been stocked to fix this problem anywhere in the country.the dealership put me immediately in a rental vehicle at gm's expense until the part comes in, which could be "2 days, 2 weeks, or 2 months" as the service manager said.could this be a manufacturer's defect present in all brake master cylinders, perhaps outsourced, delivered to the solstice gxp assembly line in delaware?
My wife and i have had problems with the brakes on our 2008 pontiac solstice gxp turbo since purchasing it.dealer has been unable to figure out problem.it is a serious safety issue from our perspective.in addition, the engine light continuously comes on and problem has not been resolved.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice.when the contact first starts the vehicle, there is a loss of brake functionality.he took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that they were aware of the failure, but could not make a repair until gm formulates a remedy.the vacuum boost switches to turbo on the engine and needs to build up.once it finally builds up, the brakes work normally.the failure mileage was 500. I opened the driver door from the inside, and my hand was slashed open.bleeding profusely.the chrome had peeled off the handle.the dealer replaced the entire door panel, stating that it was an expensive, one piece unit.i sold the car, and bought another one from my fiance. (we bought them both on the same week) hers has been fine until now, when the chrome on this one has begun to bubble up. It will also break free and become too sharp to use.the dealer says it is a well known problem and that gm extended the warranties on the trucks with the same problems.they have not extended the warranties on the solstice or the hhr, which share the problem, and a single piece style door panel.the dealer said the single piece panel is a bad design, and so expensive, that gm is refusing to extend the warranties on them.leaving the customers swinging in the breeze with an injury waiting to happen.
Driver's side door handle release is broken and no longer connected to release/open door in vehicle. Now only way for driver to exit vehicle is to have to roll down my window-reach outside to open my door with outside door handle. Safety issue, as i cannot exit vehicle quickly in emergency and only can exit if window is down.have asked dealer to repair multiple times. Have been told parts are on back order, and still not available from gm. It has been over six months with this problem. In scanning solstice internet forums, this seems to be a substantial issue among owners. My vehicle is low mileage, yet i cannot get the gm/pontiac dealer to solve the issue. They claim they are still awaiting parts from gm. Forum reference: http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/f12/door-handle-replacement-how-69171/.
The contact owns a 2008 pontiac solstice.the contact stated that the front driver's side interior door handle was peeling and the chrome was razor shape.the vehicle was taken to dealer but was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vin was unavailable.the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
The interior trunk release does not comply with 49 cfr 571.401 in that it is not designed to release all latches from inside the trunk. The buttress release cables(2) are connected to a solenoid that must be operated electrically and are not connected to the emergency release cable. It is also a known common failure for these cablesto fail and not release the buttress flaps from the exterior. My cables have failed several times and needed to be repaired. The emergency release cable and trunk release design do not meet the safety standards.
Interior door latch on driver's side does not open latch. Cheap parts components for an essential part on the car is what gm is all about. Car out of warranty.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 66,000 and the current mileage was 76,000. Updated 9/10/12 the consumer stated that the passenger side exterior door handle was extremely loose. Vehicle repaired not under warranty. The replacement handle was more loose than the original handle. The handle was again repaired. The driver's side interior door handle's chrome was peeling off in a manner that can cause injury. The vehicle repair is also not covered under the recall. This failure has not been repaired. Updated 09/17/2012

2008 pontiac solstice brakes fail/suddenly connect since day 1 everytime i get in the car. I have been issued directives from gm which basically state that's how it is. This car is not safe to drive and i want to be rid of it. When this info gets out i will not be able to sell it. I am taking it back to the dealer for the 4th time in 3 days to initiate the az state "lemon law'.
