The passenger airbag module stopped working in my 2006 pontiac solstice.there's only about 80,000 miles on the car.the dealership told me its not a recall item or covered repair item.cost to replace $1,000.00.i called gm/pontiac and told them that this should be a recall/covered safety repair especially since there are hundreds of complaints of this exact issue.they told me that there are not enough complaints to issue a recall and that they would not cover repairs or offer discount for replacement parts.my car has been sitting in the garage parked for over a year.it will not pass inspection until the airbag system is replaced.this is a safety issue!! this should be covered by the manufacture not the consumer.i'm still paying for a car i can't drive.... Passenger side airbag warning light came on @83,000. Gm should fix this as a recall considering all the of the same complaints i'm seeing !!

Air bag module went out.i have heard this is happening too frequently in these cars.i fear for the safety of the passenger.repair is over $800.
After approximately 36,000 miles i get a "service air bag" message which inhibits the passenger airbag from arming regardless of how much someone weighs in the passenger seat. This appear to be a common issue with the pontiac solstice and directly affects the safety of an adult passenger should an accident occur.
Dealer diagnosed warning light to faulty air bag sensor, part #19124219 and quoted over $800 to fix.quick google search indicates this is a common and known issue, but as of yet no recall issued.given the vast number of complaints, and the fact this is directly tied to safety issue, its appalling that nothing has been done to rectify the known issue.i'm going to buy and install the part myself, which will still cost $400 but will ensure that the vehicle meets the safety standards it was designed and tested for.how many complaints does it take before any action is taken?
Initially my service passenger air bag light would malfunction then work. Finally it has stopped working all together about the date noted. I currently have no evidence if the passenger airbag will work or not as the sensor is not working to show occupancy in the seat. I have read hundreds of complaints about this. Maybe when enough people die or are injured gm will admit it is a faulty seat wire and recall it. According to my research, spending $850 to replace it will not prevent it from failing again. Therefore the customer will not continue to replace it.
At 33800 miles , the service airbag warning light came on and indicated an off condition for the passenger seat even with an adult passenger seated. I consider this as a very serious safety problem. If an accident were to occur, the passenger would have no airbag protection. The sensor replacement is very expensive and the passenger airbag remains off. Upon starting our 2006 pontiac solstice around the first week of feb. 2013 to pull it out of the garage to let it run a bit since it has not been driven for the last few months due to us living in an area that has cold winter temperatures, i noticed the service air bag message showed up on the dic and did not go off. I shut the car off a couple of times and restarted it thinking the service air bag message would go away, but it hasn't. Our pampered 2006 solstice only has 28,000 miles on it. Not sure why this message would be showing up now out of the blue when the car was just fine when it was parked in the garage 3 months ago. From what i've been told the service air bag message is due to a failure of the passenger seat sensor. How does something all of the sudden fail just sitting there not being driven? after doing some research and reading hundreds, probably over a thousand complaints about the same issue, i found that this is a very common safety issue that i along with too many others have had to happen to our car's. Seems like it is a defective passenger seat sensor part that just fails randomly which could put a passenger in grave danger, and it seems from what i've discovered gm is not offering to do anything about it, leaving the owners to pay the high cost to have it replaced and repaired. Most people cannot afford to have the repair done and should not be responsible for the cost of a procedure that should be recalled because of a very high number of these type passenger seat sensors failing.

The air bag indicator light does not come on when a person is setting in the passenger seat. This car only has about 19800 miles on it (passenger side) it was working earlier i don't drive very often

This is a safety issue that a large portion of saturn skys and pontiac solstices share and is very expensive to repair. Since so many other solstice owners are experiencing the same malfunction, i feel gm should consider this for recall before people are killed as a result of their faulty airbag sensors.
On nov 2014 i bought this pontiac roadster from the original owner with the air bag lights on with a mere 32500 miles on it, i drove the car 1 month & parked it for the winter, last week 3-30-2015 i took it to my shop to have the air bag lite code scanned &it readfaulty seat rear seat belt module gm part # 15874981-15838918 & would not clear, i called gm to find out it was not under warranty or recall & it was over a 800 $ fix, i was shocked ! i looked up this problem on the internet only to find alot of the same complaints from the 3 years in service on the solstice & sky's all saying the same thing, faulty air bag passenger seat module, this is a gm problem that is totally unsafe car to drive, it needs recalled asap as i understand i have no air bags & no seat belt tensioner also , im scared of this car & i am on a fixed income and can not afford to fix it, there gotta be a way gm can fix this so at least i can have air bags & seat belt tension to the driver at the very least, my wife is afraid to drive in this car with me, i refuse to sell this car until its fixed & safe , if gm will not fix this i will not buy another gm, they only made this car 3 years & they need all the safety features it can have up & running properly, how dare gm not to fix this car in nov with the faulty ignition switch & not fix this air bag safety feature while it was in the gm shop, also am i correct that the seat belt tensioners upon impact will not work w/o the air bags working ? do you realize how many of these cars are on the road with the seat belt & air bags not working. Warning light on dash came on for an air bag problem (indicates passenger bag is off) while my wife of about 150 lbs. Was in passenger seat.it went out briefly and then came back on permanently.it has remained on any time the engine is running, and the warning light in the speedometer warns that the air bag system needs maintenance.from readings on the internet, i have learned this is a common problem with this model, that the passenger seat sensor has failed, that the entire seat must be replaced at between $600.-$750, that the air bag will in fact fail to deploy and that any replacement sensors likely will also fail.it is absolutely unsafe to drive this vehicle with any passenger.
Same problem as stated by many solstice customers...air bag warning light for passenger side is constantly on...certified dealer says passenger side air bag sensor is defective...this is a severe liability issue that can result in serious injury or death...gm should announce an immediate recall to have this defect repaired before injury or death is caused by their negligence...lawsuit waiting to happen.

We purchased the 2006 pontiac solstice approximately 2 years ago and for the past year have not been able to drive the car because it fails inspection in massachusetts for the passenger air bag sensor, i have spoken with gm about the issue and was told that they are aware of the problem but at this point are not being made to correct it. How can that be allowed. We enjoyed the car very much when we could drive it but just taking up space in the garage is not what we purchased the car for. We have replaced the air bag sensor now twice and currently the car is at the gm service department now to have the air bag sensor replaced yet again, is gm ever going to step up and take care of this?
Air bag service light came on. My vehicle has never been in an accident. The passenger side air bag will not come on when an adult sits in the seat. This is a problem because i have a teenage daughter whom sits on the passenger side.

The air bag senor in my vehicle failed after a car wash and interior cleaning. I'm afraid for my passengers that have to ride with me that includes my wife, i've seen the repair cost ($500-$800). I have been trying to book a recall appointment for a year now to have my issue resolved.every time i speak with kuni chevrolet, they let me know the airbag part is not available.i called customer service for pontiac, only to be re directed back to kuni chevrolet with the exact same outcome. I am part of the gm ignition recall... And have done extensive research now on how it may be tied to the airbag issue i seem to be having. The warning that my airbags do not work and need to be serviced keeps coming up. (so i am driving with no airbags according to my dealership, they said it seems to be a common complaint, but of course there is no recall!!).

My car had a recall on it when i bought it for the air bag sensor in the pass seat. I took it in and they patched it...not fixed it but a patch... It has been sat in about 20 times since and now has the light on. I will not pay them to repatch or fix this as they should of fixed it properly the first time, if you oked the use of a tape patch than you can pay for the proper fix. These should never of been patched. They should of been fixed.it will not go back to the dealer that did the patch as i got the car back with grease on many portions of the neer new like leather as well as the new like exterior of the car along with scratch,dent etc.so somebody needs to find the correct fix and have these cars fixed!! not a patch that last 20 times sat in. This is a low millage car and garage or carport kept, still looks about like a 2 month old car. Is is despicable that any body could be permitted to patch something like this!!it was patched by perston hood chevy in fortwalton beach florida.

Almost immediately (within a couple hundred miles) after receiving product safety recall 17036 passenger presence system to add a reinforcement strip to the passenger pps sensor mat, my "service air bag" light came on. When i visited my dealership, they denied that their service could have had any impact on the failure and attempted to charge me a diagnostic fee that would not be applied to a repair.

Beginning march, 2012, my airbag service light flashed on and has continued to send a warning.prior to the service light, the passenger side on/off indicator would periodically not recognize that someone was in the seat and had the seat belt securly on.i am very concerned that i do not believe that the passenger in my car is safe in case of accident.i am especially concerned now that i learned that the ignition switch also has a serious problem that could actually cause my car to cease running.the combination of the two very serious safety issues is of great concern to me and my family.i love this car and do not want to get rid of it.in addition, i would not feel confident that i would be selling a save car to a new owner.i have read several solstice web sites and this seat belt problem is wide spread.why is it not recalled???
I took my solstice in to dealership for ignition and airbag recall sept 2018.they fixed ignition but said i needed a new part for the airbag sensor (my airbag light is also on).it has been 9 months and i have repeatedly called the dealership (frederick md) but they tell me there are no parts to fix it.i've also called 2 other local dealerships who have said the same thing.my understanding is that the time limit for these repairs is 10yrs from original sale date, which in my case would be 2016, for the dealership to remedy the recall.what can i do to get this fixed so i can have a passenger ride in my car?

During my search i noticed many customer complaints, numbering in the hundreds if not thousands. I have been a loyal customer to gm for many years they make great vehicles and i will continue to buy gm. But this air bag light bugs me every time i drive it. The fix is expensive and with so many people having the same problem i cannot help but wonder if this is a factory defect or design flaw.my last six new vehicles were general motors and i own two now no others have had this problem, or for that matter any problems at all.
The passenger side inoperable warning light is constantly on . I understand this is a common defect with most pontiac solstices. Why isn't there a recall requiring this manufacturing defectto be fixed? i'm sure gm has been aware of this since 2006 , but have decided to settle law suits rather than recall cars to fix the problematic sensors with reliable sensors. Passenger side airbag apparently is inoperable as dashboard indicator light is now always off, indicating that there is no passenger when in actuality my wife is sitting in the seat and seatbelt buckled. This has occurred often over the last 5 years but now it always is "off". However, now, the red airbag warning light is lit, also along with the check airbag message.according to several solstice forums on the internet, this seems to be a common problem with many solstice and sky owners. I firmly believe that gm should recall these vehicles and fix them asap as this is a safety problem. The red light and check airbag message came on while driving down a highway, and stayed on for the duration of the ride. And every time we use the vehicle these warnings come on.

Passenger seat air bag sensor has gone bad for the second time. Only lasted about three years. About 80% of the time there is no one setting in the passenger seat.
My 2006 pontiac solstice has a recall notice (gm safety recall notice 17036).a couple of months ago i took it to the chevrolet dealer (sunset in sarasota fl) attempting to get this problem repaired.service said it was repairable and quoted $150.00.i choose to wait and drive another car.since then i received the a recall notice.i called the dealer and they said i have to wait until the parts are available pertaining to the recall.this problem is a definite safety issue since the passenger side airbag stays in the "off" position and will not deploy in an accident.seems strange that the dealer has the parts if i wanted to pay for the repair a couple of months ago and do not have the parts for this recall.i want to start using my car, but do not because of the safety issue.please help.

Petition for nhtsa to commence proceedings for an investigation of the 2006 - 2010 pontiac solstice and the 2007 -2010 saturn sky, specifically the area of air bags electrical system (cd enclosed).the consumer stated the above mentioned vehicle had repeated failures of the passenger sensing system (pss) sensor mat. Over time, the mat will kink and fold with use and eventually a break will develop in the circuitry of the sensor mat causing a failure and possibly leading to the passenger air bag not deploying in the case of an accident.

The light on the dash came on that is an "air bag service warning light" and says to service the air bag. I just looked up other cars with this problem and find a lot of similar or exact problems. This should be a factory recall in my opinion due to being such a safety hazard. It also appears that the dealers don't know how to fix it and are willing to charge you for attempted repairs only to make you spend more time and money to bring it back several times and keep trying to correct the problem. At 80,000 miles and very little time spent with a passenger, the airbag sensor located in the passenger seat failed. This disables the passenger airbag and continually displays both a warning on the vehicle's dic and a light on the dash. I feel that this is unacceptable for the age and use of the car. The sensor was removed and examined to try to determine the cause of the fault. A breakage was found of the internal electrical contacts at the center of the sensor mat. The fault displayed without warning and has remained since.

Passenger air bag sensor, intermittent failure. This has happened multiple times while my wife has been seated in the passenger seat. This is a known and common problem with the pontiac solstice. The air bag sensor does not always recognize a passenger and turns off while passenger is seatedin the passenger seat. This is a known defect throughout the solstice community. The average repair cost is $600-$800 dollars for a safety product !! this must be addressed by nhtsa before someone is killed or maimed by this manufacturing defect !!! this is totally unacceptable for a manufacturer to continue to allow an inferior product to be used. This failure has occurred in all different age and mileages in this vehicle. The system may also not recognize a passenger depending on their weight distribution on the seat. A simple fix is a software flash to "always on" or a keyed switch like other vehicles where the airbag can be switched off if required. This issue may cause as many deaths and or injuries as the ignition switch recall which was implemented almost immediately. What will it take for the government to step in and force gm to fix this known defect?

In may of 2017 dash warning showed service airbag remained on.took to dealer and it as replaced for $991.20 plus tax.in 2018 received recall notice that stated i would be reimbursed as part was recalled.took car to dealer to see about reimbursement and did paper work on 7/17/18.while i as there i requested an appointment with the dealer to see if the repaired recalled part was done with the same old part that is under recall,they checked out the previous repair and discovered that the previous repair was made with the same recalled part.dealer replaced the repaired part through recall campaign 17036.gm has not reimbursed me for the original repair.as i was not made whole by gm, i am asking for a determination for reimbursement

Dear nhtsa csr,i am filing this complaint because it appears gm is ignoring a critical safety issue. Please review the complaint i filed with gm below and additional information. Dear gm csr,on august 27, 2015 i had my 2006 solstice in for service at rentschler, slatington, pa. The issue is the passenger side air bag is not activating for my wife but does for me. She weighs 119 lbs. Rentschler reported passenger side air bag working fine. I asked what is weight of person that sat in passenger side seat? they indicated a male tech. I stated works for me also but not for my wife. They said they would have one of their girls (robin) try. They then were able to duplicate the problem. Robin weighs 110lbs.the rentschler service person then shared they called gm and were told by gm that the air bag activation sensor is working within normal parameters. I find this difficult to believe. The air bag sensor worked fine for my wife from the year i purchased the vehicle in 2006 until approximately 3 months ago. This seems like a serious breach of safety protocol when air bag is not being activated for a 119lb adult. I did not argue with rentschler since they contacted gm,felt most expedient to contact gm. Sincerely,[xxx]in summary, the air bag sensor indicator worked fine for nearly 9 years then suddenly it stopped working.gm / rentschler claim the airbag sensor working within normal parameters. This just seems like a very serious breach of safety protocol. I cannot believe that a 119 lb adult would not activate the airbag sensor and be protected by the air bag in the event of an accident. Coincidentally the problem started after the ignition switch changed per recall. On june 9, 2015 i was driving the vehicle with a passenger. While driving the ?service air bag? message appeared on the dashboard as well as the red light air bag indicator. I stopped the vehicle turned the engine off then back on. The ?service air bag? message and the red light did not re-appear. I drove the vehicle home with no further problems....sometime later that day i started the car without a passenger, ?service air bag? message did not come on. I then drove the car with a passenger and again the ?service air bag? message appeared. The next day i started the car without a passenger and the ?service air bag? message did not appear. However later on in the day, the message re-appeared without a passenger in the car. From then on the ?service air bag? message appeared constantlythe car was taken to thomas pontiac gmc in cobourg ontario on june 11, 2015. The fault was diagnosed as a defective passenger air bag sensor which was replaced on june 13, 2015....i obtained the old part from the dealer and found the issue to be a hairline crack in the copper mat that makes up the air bag sensor....when searching for similar instances on a pontiac solstice forum, i found that not only are passenger air bag sensor failures common, but they are also occurring at an early age. In addition the type of failure is similar in most instances right down to the same spot on the sensor....updated 09/22/15updated 12/05/2017
The service air bag light is on by itself.sent the car to the dealer, and it is said the air bag sensor module is broken and it costs around $700 to fix.searched the internet, and there are a huge bunch of complains about this problem, but the manufacture hasn't done anything to it.the air bag is directly related to the driver and passengers safety. The airbag not functioning light is coming on intermittently. When the vehicle is moving or idling. I took it to the dealer today and they reported there were no active codes. After reading online about this i am now concerned that i am driving a car without airbags functioning and either a dishonest dealer or an incompetent tech.

I called gm they informed me that not have some one seat up front, informed them what other seat are they going to sit in then. Went for dq, wife purchased our ice cream. Upon her return to the car and sitting down, the dash passenger air bag indicator light stated system was "off" with her sitting in the seat engine running.this condition continued on the drive home.no sir failure light indicated.when at home, vehicle shut off and she existed.i restarted the car and she go back in the car and sat in the seat.indicator light stated system was "on". Car is presently at just over 24,000 miles.very, very limited passenger seat usage. Gm does not acknowledge this problem a chronic, however, numerous complaints have been listed on websites. The repair estimates are very high to replace the faulty sensor (about $750 from a gm dealer). Since this is a critical component for safety of the passenger, it should be given serious consideration for a recall. Since gm will not step up and take responsibility for this chronic problem, i petition government to look into this matter for resolution. A recall is justified and critically necessary for this air bag failure.

It is absolutely a safety issue.all of the complaints seem to state the problem has occurred with well under 100,000 miles. The price to fix appears to be anywhere from 400.00 to 800.00.add to that the declining value of our cars, due to recalls and other safety issues, i feel gm should issue this recall as well.this serious safety hazard must be addressed before someone is fatally injured due to a faulty airbag system that gm is clearly aware of.

On the solstice website there are many many complaints of this same problem. The passenger present sensor fails. The have airbag serviced warning light is on. Passenger airbag light is off when a passenger is present. This means my passenger is not protected by the airbag in the event of a crash. This is a major safety issue.
Our solstice now has a passenger seat seat bag sensor light on. We took it into the dealer and were informed this is a common problem. They promptly told us it would be over $1000 to fix. The car has been well maintained and only has 23,000 miles on it. This light remains on at all times. We were told that our air bag will not deploy. It is my understanding that even replacing the sensor may not be a permanent fix as the sensor goes out frequently. When are they going to recognize this problem? will it take a few deaths for the recall?

If the bag in the steering wheel also does not work this is something that needs to be fixed. If an active fault exists in the pps system and a crash occurs, the sdm will not deploy the front passenger airbag. If an adult is occupying the passenger seat, the suppression of the front passenger airbag could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.

Estimate to repair was $779.00 plus tax. Did not repair due to cost. Internet search reveals many, many of the vehicles with the same problem.this is a defective piece of safety equipment and needs recalled. It could fail at any time, thus disabling the passenger airbag, and many such as mine have already failed.

I purchased the care three years from a dealer. The first year and a half i had no problems. That all changed as the check air bag red warning light came on relating to the passenger side air bag. That followed by the catalytic converter needing replacement without ever receiving a notice that there was a recall notice sent only to the dealers, not the owners by gm. Upon going to the dealership they acknowledge and replace the converter. Most recent was a mailed notice in reference to the ignition switch being recalled and waiting for the part to come in. However, after writing the new chairman of gm and informing her of my problem with the air bag about two months a reply came back with any resolve to the problem. As of recent acknowledgement gm is in the new again with passenger side airbag problems with their sport vehicles such as the cadillac escalate. In owning cars or over 50 years i have never encountered a check air bag warning light. I strongly feel that my car was equipped with the same air bag sensing system as placed in their sport vehicles. I find it difficult to comprehend that i am the only one with this problem and i am deeply concerned that others may be in forlethalaccident if such air bag deployment does not occur during an accident. No accident yet! the above date is when the warning light first came on and still on. This is a very expensive repair for a senior citizen. Please help me!

I took my pontiac in and had ignition switch replaced and they installed a reinforcement strip on the air bag passenger seat .this did not fix the problem .i took it to crossroads chevorlet ,mt. Hope w.v. The internet said that if the reinforcement strip fixed it that was good but if it didnt that they would have to replsaace the sensor.now crossrads have turned it in that is has been repaired and it hasnt. I ask the mechanic when i picked up the car that if i went out and set in the seat if the light on the dash would change butn when i went out and set in it it was still the same .they told me that if i wanted them to keep it or make another appointment that they would run a diagonase on the car and charge me 95.00 dollars and if it was the sensor that they could fix it but it would cost me labor and parts . I had a computer hooked to the car before i took it there and it threw up code p0081 which is the sensor. My car has the same results as it did when i took it there . It still has a warning to service air bag and the light won t change when somebody sets in the passenger seat . Is this something yall can help me with or do i need to get in contact with bbb of wv just wanting recall repaired withoutn any cost . We just purchased a 2006 pontiac solstice and we are having problems with the passenger air bag indicator showing the air bag is off with a passenger in seat weighing over 160 lbs. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't and we have tried getting in the car and sitting in the seat different ways. Not sure what we need to do. I have read on several web sites that this is a problem and i worry when it shows not on and i'm sitting in the seat. This is a safety problem and feel gm should take care of this even if not under warranty.our bumper to bumper warranty expired june 2, 2009.don't know if the previous owners have problems or not. Incident could have been under warranty but we don't know when or if it happened to them.

I received a letter on the ignition switch recall and how important (bolded and underscored) that it was to contact the dealer and get the report completed.however the dealer won't take an appoint because the parts are not in.the thinks next week, but now he said i'd need another letter from gm before i can schedule an appointment.also the gm guy won't schedule an appointment even if he has the parts in.if i want to schedule an appoint for a date next week i would have to purchase service -- like an oil change to secure that day/time.i called gm customer service specific to the recall and they said that parts should be at the deal in about a week and likely receive a second letter.so now that i've wasted an hour of time going thru all the steps the first letter asks, i'm going to be driving a "dangerous vehicle", until i get a letter -- regardless of the parts are in. Purchased this car used 2/4/14 from a local reputably dealer.this 06 solstice showed only 36998 miles and had a clean car fax report. Have driven the car only a couple of hundred miles due to the following . The few times that the vehicle has been driven there seems to be a grinding noise in the rear end only at low speed and only while turning ,mostly parking lot speed .the car will grind and "violent snatch" as if something is binding or catching. The local mechanic says this is a defect in clutches of the rear end on these models (06) and that gm should have repaired it a long time ago .well, apparently mine was not .added the required gm additive to the rear ,but car continues to grind.i have read many horror stories on line from other owners who have had there rear wheels" locking up "at speed and causing loss of control in these cars (.i am not about to let my wife ever drive this car again.) problem #(2) i thought was insignificant until i saw this car was recalled last week ,and now my experience makes sense. Not only will these switches shut off during operating they will also unintentionally start due to weak detente in switch. ( no harm no foul )...so far....problem#3my pass side airbag light on this car works about half the time. Meaning the pass side bag is active and operating about half the time.(my daughter has had her last ride as well) the real problem here is that i still owe 14000 on a car that looks great but can't be safely driven . This purchase is my first since bankruptcy 2 yrs ago ,and it looks as if i will be giving it back to the finance company and will be out my 2000 dollars down payment. After purchasing this car i have researched and found these problems i am having ,have been an ongoing for gm.why are they still out there being sold to the consumer? and to think i cheered when gm was bailed out!! blame goes to me for trusting gm?
While routine driving of the car a tone indicates and the battery/electrical light comes on for a brief period of time. Manual indicates service is required. Dealer unable to duplicate the problem, yet it does it again as i drive home from the service call, and again the next time i drive the car.

When applying brakes, vehicle would come to a slamming stop jolting body and transmission to a complete stop then proceeding to normal driving mode until applying brakes again. Took my vehicle in to service 4 times for same repair.codes p0013, p0014, p0700 & p2637 on diagnostic revealed all 4 times when service dept. Checked for issues.also, powertrain differential in rear makes dragging noise since day one.

Blower motor resistor shorted out and melted and also melted the wiring harness as well. This occurred while driving down the highway. I smelled smoke and then seen it coming out from under the dash on passenger side.this seems to be a common problem see link. Petition for nhtsa to commence proceedings for an investigation of the 2006 - 2010 pontiac solstice and the 2007 -2010 saturn sky, specifically the area of air bags electrical system (cd enclosed).the consumer stated the above mentioned vehicle had repeated failures of the passenger sensing system (pss) sensor mat. Over time, the mat will kink and fold with use and eventually a break will develop in the circuitry of the sensor mat causing a failure and possibly leading to the passenger air bag not deploying in the case of an accident.
Vehicle was in dealership for ignition switch recall work (recall 14063 and 14113).when vehicle was returned to me upon completion of the work, the vehicle would sometimes start, and sometimes not.i start with the transmission in gear, clutch depressed.this may or may not have any impact on the issue, which the service technician reported was an issue with the hall effect devices in the key head.i am an ex gm electrical engineer - i understand neutral safety.this is not a clutch/transmission neutral safety issue, this is a key switch failure to engage crank issue. The old ignition switch always started in this crank configuration.at this time, i have my vehicle at home, and both recall keys have demonstrated a refusal to start the car at times.turn the key, no crank.great, if i dump the clutch and stall the vehicle, i may be in a road condition that is very dangerous and be unable to start my car.it "could" be a walk home failure per the technicians comments if i understood him correctly. In returning "one" of the "two" supplied keys so they could order replacements, the comment was made they have seen this issue with hall key heads before. Excuse me, i would think a "no start" condition is a recall condition -- you can get someone hurt in traffic.i would also think all key head should be checked for performance prior to installation in service. When i apply the brakes to slow down or stop and the car gets to about 20mph the car suddenly brakes hard and jolts.if it were not for the seat belt one could go into the windshield.this happens with each braking.this is extremely dangerous.i see through research online that people have been reporting this issue with this car for years...why isn't there a recall? what is the problem?this is a small car if a semi or just any moving vehicle was close behind me when this happens i and my passenger would probably be crushed.the two engine indicator lights go on and the low engine power light also goes on and stays on.the repair facility seems to be stumped.someone must know what causes this because it is not an isolated problem that we are experiencing.

They took it to their pontiac/gm dealership for investigation. That dealership said it was the rear end and it was normal, however mine was excessive so they re-placed the rear end/driveshaft and differential. When car was returned to me it still was making the noise w/ a letter from gm stating this was normal for these particular cars. This is not normal, there is definitely some kind of defect going on w these makes and models, if you search the internet you will find numerous complaints on the subject of this car and others for this exact issue. When driving itbasically sounds like the back end or transmission is going to fall out or something is sticking, the gears are always getting stuck when shifting and it is a fight to get it into gear most times. Additionally when trying to turn corners or come to a stop the car appears to be locking up, steering gets tight and breaks just don't feel to be working properly. This car has never been in an accident and is in mint condition for it being a 2006 and under 26k miles(w/ the exception of this complaint). All the previous recall have been done and the newest one has yet to be done even though the pontiac/gm dealership ordered it for me 2 months ago and gm sent me a letter last week to get the recall performed, there still are no parts and im still waiting and im basically according to gm stuck w a car that clunks and doesn't shift properly and sticks in between gears which they state is normal. Someone needs to investigatethese models, i don't feel safe driving.

In march, 2007, my 2006 pontiac solstice had a catastrophic catalytic converter failure without warning.i was traveling on the freeway at 65mph one second, and the next second the car slowed to 30mph without any warning (no warning lights, no prior engine power issue).i was able to get the car to my dealer at a maximum speed of 25mph.the sudden loss of power could have easily caused a serious high speed rear-end collision.pontiac has sent a letter to 2006 solstice owners extending the warranty of the catalytic converter to 10 years or 120,000 miles, but they do not want anyone to take their vehicle to their dealership unless the converter fails (possibly causing a serious crash due to the sudden loss of power as previously described).there should be a full recall of this converter before someone is seriously injured or killed.

The emergency brake does not engage at all, i had it fixed more or less 3 times at dealer now i am out of warranty they don't want anything to do with it. This is a severe safety hazard.
Vehicle was in dealership for ignition switch recall work (recall 14063 and 14113).when vehicle was returned to me upon completion of the work, the vehicle would sometimes start, and sometimes not.i start with the transmission in gear, clutch depressed.this may or may not have any impact on the issue, which the service technician reported was an issue with the hall effect devices in the key head.i am an ex gm electrical engineer - i understand neutral safety.this is not a clutch/transmission neutral safety issue, this is a key switch failure to engage crank issue. The old ignition switch always started in this crank configuration.at this time, i have my vehicle at home, and both recall keys have demonstrated a refusal to start the car at times.turn the key, no crank.great, if i dump the clutch and stall the vehicle, i may be in a road condition that is very dangerous and be unable to start my car.it "could" be a walk home failure per the technicians comments if i understood him correctly. In returning "one" of the "two" supplied keys so they could order replacements, the comment was made they have seen this issue with hall key heads before. Excuse me, i would think a "no start" condition is a recall condition -- you can get someone hurt in traffic.i would also think all key head should be checked for performance prior to installation in service. How many of the recalled "fixed" vehicles have these unsafe keys in customers hands?i challenge this solution as a "fix", and question the recall solution.

I took it in several times for repair until finally in 2007, pontiac recalled the vehicle for the power train being defective as listed below. I did not have any more problems until 2010 when the vehicle begin to make the same noise.i took the vehicle to another gm dealership as the one i purchased from had closed. They told me there was nothing they could do. This problem has gotten progressively worst and now the noise if getting very bad as i am decelerating and braking. The gears get more difficult to change when this happens. This is the same way it was acting before the drive train replacement. I took it to another gm dealership and was told they only replace them once under a recall. I don't understand if they are defective they should replace regardless. Purchased this car used 2/4/14 from a local reputably dealer.this 06 solstice showed only 36998 miles and had a clean car fax report. Have driven the car only a couple of hundred miles due to the following . The few times that the vehicle has been driven there seems to be a grinding noise in the rear end only at low speed and only while turning ,mostly parking lot speed .the car will grind and "violent snatch" as if something is binding or catching. The local mechanic says this is a defect in clutches of the rear end on these models (06) and that gm should have repaired it a long time ago .well, apparently mine was not .added the required gm additive to the rear ,but car continues to grind.i have read many horror stories on line from other owners who have had there rear wheels" locking up "at speed and causing loss of control in these cars (.i am not about to let my wife ever drive this car again.) problem #(2) i thought was insignificant until i saw this car was recalled last week ,and now my experience makes sense. Not only will these switches shut off during operating they will also unintentionally start due to weak detente in switch. ( no harm no foul )...so far....problem#3my pass side airbag light on this car works about half the time. Meaning the pass side bag is active and operating about half the time.(my daughter has had her last ride as well) the real problem here is that i still owe 14000 on a car that looks great but can't be safely driven . This purchase is my first since bankruptcy 2 yrs ago ,and it looks as if i will be giving it back to the finance company and will be out my 2000 dollars down payment. After purchasing this car i have researched and found these problems i am having ,have been an ongoing for gm.why are they still out there being sold to the consumer? and to think i cheered when gm was bailed out!! blame goes to me for trusting gm?
Dt*:the contact stated the day after purchasing the vehicle, with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle began to jump.once getting to the destination, the ignition was turned off, upon entering the vehicle, the vehicle jumped when in put in drive.the dealership was contacted and suggested the vehicle be driven in.while in route to the dealership, the check engine light illuminated.the vehicle was pulled over and towed to the dealership.the dealership determined the computer listed the o circuits for the transmission was inoperable.the next day the dealership alerted the contact contaminated transmission fluid was put in the vehicle at the factory causes the transmission to completely fail.

Pontiac safety recall 07204 2006 pontiac solstice rear axle seal leak,the failure occurred soon after the car was purchased and was taken to the dealer for repairs, axle seal was replaced, upon return of the car it was noticed the rear axle was making a whining noise that was very pronounced and unable to talk over.car was returned to the dealer and they changed the axle fluid and put an additive in for the whine.noise did not go away and is still present to this day.i returned the car to the dealer 5 more times and was told the noise was normal.feb 2008 received a recall letter from gm saying the differential seal needs to be replaced and "damaged bearings will create noise" "differential could jam and lock the drive wheels while the vehicle is in motion" "a crash could occur with out warning"i returned the car for the recall and the axle seal was replaced again, upon return of the car the axle is still whining as loud as ever and is now a very huge safety concern to me that the car may crash without warning.i have called pontiac to advise them the issue is still on going case #71-606320808 at this point they have not offered any resolution to the issue and have stated that the recall has been satisfied by replacing the axle seal.

My wife suggested to me that the accident may have been caused by a malfunction to the car.i didn't really consider that a possibility.however, she has never been able to explain the accident beyond saying "all of a sudden i lost control of the car".while i was looking for the car title, which i've still not found by the way, i discovered a recall notice from early 2008.i reviewed the document and discovered the 3rd condition which may occur sounds like a possible cause of this accident.i'm not sure of the best course of action at this point.i'm not a mechanical expert but it seems to me we could easily discover if the differential is jammed.if so, i suspect the cause of the accident was not my wife.if not, i don't know if these things can jam and release or not.of course, if there is a problem with the car i would like to report it as soon as possible so that someone else isn't placed in jeopardy like my wife may have been.i would also like to work to get the ticket against her dismissed and remove this from our records as an "at fault" accident.perhaps travelers could find some relief if the car really malfunctioned.we had the recall repair work completed by the dealer when we received the recall in 2008.when my wife took the car in to the dealer for an oil change on december 3, 2009 she asked that they also examine a noise she was hearing.the dealers notes on the service ticket indicate the noise was coming from the rear differential which is the same as the recall in 2008.the dealer kept the car overnight and ordered parts.the parts did not arrive so they let my wife drive off - knowing a possible serious problem might exist.

I have had to take my car in for the same problem 10 times due to a rear differential issue. The first time was just a couple of month's after i had purchased it brand new in "06". I return every couple of months because of the same problem.the seal had been recalled and replaced, twice. The tubing has been replaced, trimmed and adjusted and the fluid refilled to many times to count.i am well aware of the deadly consequences this issue can cause, if that seal fails. I have been in contact with gm concerning this issue with no help. The repair shop says the car's a lemon, gm says that the repairs are not being done correctly.
5/15/06 at 5200 miles rear pinion seal is repl due to a bad leak, upon leaving the dealer shortly after noticed a whining noise&felt the rear end binding returned the car same day 5288 miles and was told the wrong gear oil and additive was put in and the seal had to be replaced again.5/23/06 rear end starts leaking again and noise never went away dealer repl pinion seal again&said noise is normal 8/18/068655mileaking again repl pinion seal told noise from rear now worse is normal. Recall was done noise still present dealer states its normal / 3/17/08 car taken to different dealer that has it a week gm factory calls to tell me to pick the car up gave me another bulletin stating noise is normal which is dated back from 07/06 prior to recall 02/08 which contradicts the earlier bulletin gm again states warranty has been denied for any claims on rear end noise its normal.i make 2 attempts over summer to address noise dealer refuses road test or look at the car. Today 02/13 while driving on beltway loud bang w/ no warning loss of control across 4 lanes of traffic sliding sideways before skidding over 300ft with rear wheels locked up very scary.

While driving on i-95 southbound about 2 miles south of st. George, sc a loud grinding noise combined with vehicle jerking occurred, and about 3 seconds later the differential locked,causing the rear wheels to stop turning and the vehicle to skid along the roadway.amidst clouds of smoke and dust the vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder facing perpendicularlyto the roadway.

Took vehicle to dealership for repair on 1/19/06.1/31/06 dealership replaced the pinion seal and returned the car to me. 3/8/06 pinion seal began leaking again, heavily. Took back to service department on 3/9/06.3/16/06 dealership replaced differential assembly (gm case #8733080).7/10/06 rear differential leaking differential fluid again (for the 3rd time). 7/11/06 took back to dealership service department for diagnosis. As of today waiting for info from service department.

I purchased my pontiac solstice in november, 2005.since then the rear differential has gone out twice (the first time approx. 3 months after purchase) and has been repaired once for a leaking diff seal (shortly after the first replacement).it was replaced twice since it was under warranty.however, i am concerned once the warranty has expired i will be left "holding the bag" for this problem.i am on my third diff for this car and have met other solstice owners with the same problem.in fact, i have not met a solstice owner who hasn't had a diff problem. I think pontiac needs to recall this diff and provide a reliable one!(incident date provided is a "guess" of the last replacement.)
The clutch packs in the differential were binding on the 2006 pontiac solstice with just around 11,000 miles.a major vehicle component like the differential should not bind at this early stage in the vehicle's life.in any case, it made the vehicle harder to maneuver, which i consider to be a safety risk.

The issue is that the passenger seat belt light is on .just one day we got message service air bag.i have seen recalls on 2009 and other complaints 2006 but have not seen recall on my year.there was no one in the passenger seat when this happened.
My car had a recall on it when i bought it for the air bag sensor in the pass seat. I took it in and they patched it...not fixed it but a patch... It has been sat in about 20 times since and now has the light on. I will not pay them to repatch or fix this as they should of fixed it properly the first time, if you oked the use of a tape patch than you can pay for the proper fix. These should never of been patched. They should of been fixed.it will not go back to the dealer that did the patch as i got the car back with grease on many portions of the neer new like leather as well as the new like exterior of the car along with scratch,dent etc.so somebody needs to find the correct fix and have these cars fixed!! not a patch that last 20 times sat in. This is a low millage car and garage or carport kept, still looks about like a 2 month old car. Is is despicable that any body could be permitted to patch something like this!!it was patched by perston hood chevy in fortwalton beach florida.

On nov 2014 i bought this pontiac roadster from the original owner with the air bag lights on with a mere 32500 miles on it, i drove the car 1 month & parked it for the winter, last week 3-30-2015 i took it to my shop to have the air bag lite code scanned &it readfaulty seat rear seat belt module gm part # 15874981-15838918 & would not clear, i called gm to find out it was not under warranty or recall & it was over a 800 $ fix, i was shocked ! i looked up this problem on the internet only to find alot of the same complaints from the 3 years in service on the solstice & sky's all saying the same thing, faulty air bag passenger seat module, this is a gm problem that is totally unsafe car to drive, it needs recalled asap as i understand i have no air bags & no seat belt tensioner also , im scared of this car & i am on a fixed income and can not afford to fix it, there gotta be a way gm can fix this so at least i can have air bags & seat belt tension to the driver at the very least, my wife is afraid to drive in this car with me, i refuse to sell this car until its fixed & safe , if gm will not fix this i will not buy another gm, they only made this car 3 years & they need all the safety features it can have up & running properly, how dare gm not to fix this car in nov with the faulty ignition switch & not fix this air bag safety feature while it was in the gm shop, also am i correct that the seat belt tensioners upon impact will not work w/o the air bags working ? do you realize how many of these cars are on the road with the seat belt & air bags not working. Airbag warning light illuminated in reference to the passenger presence sensor a persistent problem in the pontiac solstice and sister car the saturn sky which causes the passenger airbag not to deploy if the vehicle is involved in an accident with a passenger present in the vehicle, this is definitely a manufacturers defect and not limited to just a few vehicles but mostly all! gm needs to stand by this product which is a major safety concern and issue a recall on this vehicle and have the passenger presence sensor replaced..

My car had a recall on it when i bought it for the air bag sensor in the pass seat. I took it in and they patched it...not fixed it but a patch... It has been sat in about 20 times since and now has the light on. I will not pay them to repatch or fix this as they should of fixed it properly the first time, if you oked the use of a tape patch than you can pay for the proper fix. These should never of been patched. They should of been fixed.it will not go back to the dealer that did the patch as i got the car back with grease on many portions of the neer new like leather as well as the new like exterior of the car along with scratch,dent etc.so somebody needs to find the correct fix and have these cars fixed!! not a patch that last 20 times sat in. This is a low millage car and garage or carport kept, still looks about like a 2 month old car. Is is despicable that any body could be permitted to patch something like this!!it was patched by perston hood chevy in fortwalton beach florida.
Passenger side airbag switch in seat stopped working only after two years, out of warrantee and will cost over $900.00 to replace. Drove solo for most of that time so why did it happen?
The service air bag light came on while driving down the road. I took the car to the dealer, they diagnosed a faulty passenger presence module. They said the passenger side air bag probably won't work in an accident. The repair estimate was over $800.00. This vehicle has only 33,598 miles on it. This is a huge safety issue and after reading numerous websites, there are a lot of other concerned owners out here. Can you please help get a safety recall for this problem ?
Airbag sensor in the passenger seat was replaced by gm dealer and sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't, has done this since being replaced no matter stationary or in motion.
Driving down the street with a passenger and service air bag light came on the dic.took solstice in to buick, pontiac, gmc dealer, for ignition recall and passenger airbag lightdiagnosed as a bad passenger pressence sensor.estimated replacement charge of $850.charged $120for diagnosis.searching online forums shows this is a common occurence due to a faulty designed seat sensor.owners are paying for the replacement only for the part to break again.making this a $970 repair (diagnosis + parts + labor). I am concerned about a problem with the 2006 pontiac solstice that might lead to injury in an accident.the seat back release lever is located in such a way that when the seat is all the way back and reclined as far as it will go the lever touches the plastic back wall of the car and mine is already starting to wear a hole in the plastic.if this proceeds and wears a hole in an accident it may be possible for the seat back release to catch and cause the seat to release when the driver or passenger is thrown forward.thank you for your time and i just thought this was something that should be brought to someone's attention.
When i apply the brakes to slow down or stop and the car gets to about 20mph the car suddenly brakes hard and jolts.if it were not for the seat belt one could go into the windshield.this happens with each braking.this is extremely dangerous.i see through research online that people have been reporting this issue with this car for years...why isn't there a recall? what is the problem?this is a small car if a semi or just any moving vehicle was close behind me when this happens i and my passenger would probably be crushed.the two engine indicator lights go on and the low engine power light also goes on and stays on.the repair facility seems to be stumped.someone must know what causes this because it is not an isolated problem that we are experiencing.
Brake failure car is garaged and not driven in the winter. The vehicle had been parked for 4 weeks at the time and when first driven the brakes were much weaker than normal and pulled the car severely to the right.car was driven for one mile with no change.i inspected the brake rotors and found left front and right rear brakes were not working(cold rotors), right front and left rear rotors were hot. Two days later when backing out of garageto check again, there were no brakes. Peddle went to the floor and car was stopped using emergency brake.brake fluid was checked and the level was normal and the fluid was clean.i pulled into street to test further and after traveling 30-50 feet the brakes began to work, the brake peddle was hard and brakes were functioning normally.same day i visitedthe dealer, poage chevrolet in wentzville, mo.service manager and his associate had no ideas on the cause other than to say "sounds like something was stuck and now it's not stuck anymore". Only suggestion was to replace the brake fluid.dealer said they couldn't do any diagnostics if the problem wasn't present.i asked and the dealer checked and said no technical service bulletins existed on this kind of issue. I did see a tsb on saturn sky(sister car to the solstice) for brake issue for model year 2008. Now i don't know if i can trust the brakes to work when needed. The car has been driven twice since with no brake problems.

I made a turn and as i was proceeding i had to slow down due to approaching a traffic signal . When i applied the brakes the car came to an aprupt , jolting stop and a big truck behind slammed on his brakes and narrowly stopped before hitting me in the rear. I will never drive this dangerous car until it is fixed.

However, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 23,000.
I received a letter on the ignition switch recall and how important (bolded and underscored) that it was to contact the dealer and get the report completed.however the dealer won't take an appoint because the parts are not in.the thinks next week, but now he said i'd need another letter from gm before i can schedule an appointment.also the gm guy won't schedule an appointment even if he has the parts in.if i want to schedule an appoint for a date next week i would have to purchase service -- like an oil change to secure that day/time.i called gm customer service specific to the recall and they said that parts should be at the deal in about a week and likely receive a second letter.so now that i've wasted an hour of time going thru all the steps the first letter asks, i'm going to be driving a "dangerous vehicle", until i get a letter -- regardless of the parts are in. But -- if i pay for additional service i will be granted an appointment.
The contact's spouse owns a 2006 pontiac solstice.while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer on the front driver's side door and the convertible top.since the crash, the convertible top does not go into place and lock properly.the top has released and flown backwards without warning approximately six times.the dealer and the manufacturer stated that they no longer make the convertible top needed to repair the vehicle.one person was injured and a police report was filed.the current mileage was 44,600 and failure mileage was 44,200.

After taking the vehicle in several times with an unusual noise at the rear of the vehicle, i was informed this vehicle had a faulty rear end and would need to be replaced. Pontiac did issue a recall and installed a new rear end. The vehicle is now doing the same thing and appears to be getting worse but i have been informed by a gm dealership that it will not be replaced again. If it is faulty i do not understand why the recall would not apply to the second defective part.
October 3, 2008, as i was driving north bound in the slow lane (right lane), about 7:30 pm, with the top down of 2006 pontiac solstice, i heard a loud bang! right before i lost control of the car and was swerving all over the two-lane road. Luckily there were no other vehicles in the other lane or right around me.after i finally got the car under control i pulled over to the right side of the road. My first thought was that a tire had blown. With my hazard lights on i got out of the car and walked around it expecting to see a flat tire.none of them were flat!i was really confused.it was really dark where i was, no street lights.i don't know how many times i walked around it and feeling around it before i found a hard piece of rubber or plastic hanging down in front of the driver's rear tire and it would not budge.then i noticed the tire didn't look straight up and down, it seemed to stick out a little more than the other tires.i had the car towed to the dealership. At the dealership i could see the car better in all the lights and up high so i could look underneath.the driver?s door was dented, black rubber markings on it, the lower corner of the door had the paint scraped down to the metal.the fender well didn't look bad but i could tell it was sort of out of position a tad.the wheel was leaning out at the top and in.the black plastic or rubber wheel-well shield was loose at the top, hanging down at the bottom, and a big piece was missing.when my husband came and picked me up we drove back to the location to see if i hit anything since the bang! wasn't a flat tire.it was too dark to see much, but even the tow truck driver said he didn't see anything in the road or on the sides on his way to pick me up.the next morning we drove there again, still didn't see anything, then drove past again in the afternoon and still didn't see anything.i believe something failed on my car.

I was driving my solstice on the high way at 55mph in the left lane. All of the sudden it seemed like the motor died i started to slow down at a rapid speed, down to 25mph in a blink of an eye. I stepped on the gas peddle again and the car started to shake and rattle it also was jolting forward. As i was pulling off the side of the high way the car again jumped forward causing me to clip the curb with the passenger side and scratch the door. It was only after i shut the car off and restarted it that any of the warning lights came on. I later found out that gm knew about a catastrophic catalytic converter failure back in 2009 and would fix it at no charge. Why did they not make a recall and fix this at that time? after contacting them by telephone they say they will not repair the scratch on my car. How are they not at fault? if someone would have been behind me and crashed into me and killed me, would they have the same attitude? it was their part that failed, and yet i am stuck bailing them out once again.
1. Air bag recall 17036 brought 3 times to chevy dealership told me they cannot do anything because they do not have in stock air bag.2. Passenger door pulley hardware to open door is not working. No part to fix problem
Failure of the air conditioning system in my 2006 solstice . Has been been in for repairs 5 times. The system mains faulty with no idea on the part of the manufacturer on how to repair.
I have noticed that there seems to be a problem with the accelerator on my 2006 pontiac solstice.when i begin to slow down to stop, the engine revs up for a few seconds even with the clutch engaged and my foot off of the accelerator.
I was exiting the freeway after traveling 65 mph for approximately 15 minutes.as i coasted up the exit ramp w/clutch in and foot off the gas the car revved to over 3000 rpms. By the time i stopped at the light at the end of the ramp by using the brake the car returned to idle after a second or two.
Accelerator stuck on two occasions, one foot on brake, the other on the clutch, engine was revving at ~3500 rpm second time at ~2300 rpm.necessary to restart the vehicle.dealer was not able to duplicate the problem so no action taken.
