Hello on 3/31/09 my 2001 pontiac montana caught on fire while driving on i-88 highway with 60 miles per hour. The smoke filled the car and fire was shooting up at the back window while driving this vehicle. Apparently an electrical shortage at the windshield viper has started the fire.

The vehicle alarm would sound intermittently throughout the day and night.the dealer had examined the vehicle four times trying to find the problem.the vehicle's headlights also came on by themselves.the consumer isconcerned that the vehicle may catch on fire.the dealer installed an alarm module but the problem recurred.the consumer contacted the manufacturer but they were unable to offer any assistance.

The air conditioner did not work when we turned it on this summer.we took it in to be looked at and paid $72.00 for them to tell us that the condensor was shot and needed to be replaced.the cost was estimated to be $950.00 and after it was actually replaced it cost us $880.00.i am very disappointed that this part is defective and so costly.

Our service engine light came on and also the "change oil", light won't turn off.after, a year of seeing this on (yes, we have our oil changed.) it has become annoying seeing this on all the time. The "abs" light won't turn off as well. (nothing wrong) we have the mileage reading inkilometers, which we cannot change back. We're having problems with this and had this serviced by our mechanic. Still the problem hasn't vanished from our panel. The thermostat temp. Gauge on the panel wasn't increasing while driving or parked and still running ( on 0 ) and service engine light came on for that .had obd reading on that , it read we had to change our thermostat. Several days later, the temp. Began to work properly again . The "service light" went away. We disconnected battery four times and still having problems. Is there an electrical problem? same with the window switches, too.

Gas leaking under the driver seat and under the hood.also, gas was pouring out from the motor. *lathe window failed to open, the consumer is currently waiting on a new motor. The rear brakes were leaking, the tie rods had to be replaced because they were loose, the left rear stuck became stuck, when the gear was taken out of park and placed into drive and the consumer proceeded to accelerate the vehicle jerked, the engine light illuminated, the dealer determined the emission system was dragging, the driver side mirror vibrated, the bumper cover was loose.when the consumer attempted to turn the key in the ignition, the vehicle did not start, the dealer was unable to duplicate the consumer's concern.the fuel pressure regulator was leaking and the fuel filter was replaced.the vehicle would not go over 10 mph, the vehicle shifted and then returned to normal speed. The plastic on the drivers seat was loose.

Electrical system is malfunctioning.rear windows half open and will not close.front windows will open, but will not close.lights (internal and external) will flicker if i turn on the radio, windshield wipers, raise or lower windows. Locks will engage and disengage on their own over and over again, even if the vehicle is at rest.brakes are constantly going bad.i have had to get the brakes fixed 4 times in the past 18 months.a/c is not working.no cold air comes out, only heat.

Power sliding doors open at any given time, whether at slow speeds, or high speeds. Electrical problems with horn, and lights operating intermittently. This is happening on a 2001 pontiac montana van, purchased new in 2001. Sliding door problem definitely constitutes a major liability, in as much as a person can fall out when the door opens.

I backed up to the laundry to wash clothes and proceeded to put the car in park and get out to get clothes out of the back. I pushed the brake and thought i had put the car in park because the key came out. When i started to step out of the van to get my clothes out of the back and my foot came off the brake, the car was still running and backed into a block wall. The wall was destroyed, but no one was hurt. The back door of the van is crushed. After a close examination of the ignition lock i found that the key will come out in any position, including running. I had thought the key was not supposed to come out except in the off position. Is this correct? i attempted to find out if it was in the gm recall from my local gm dealer and they claimed ignorance of anything and everything. Including even what constitutes a defective switch and what it is supposed to do and not do. It's like pulling teeth trying to get them to say anything. They say the factory sends them a list affected cars and they will not touch anything else no matter what the circumstances. The smell of gasoline is strong at times but a cursory examination by a mechanic doesn't show anything. After viewing the recalls concerning gas leaks i am worried. Can you tell me by the vin how many of the recalls shown on your page this vehicle has had and what it has missed before it burns me to death?

The vehicle had an electrical system failure and burst into flames. The vehicle was parked at 7:30 am on march 31, 2008. At 12:50 am on april 1,2008 the horn started blaring and there were flames coming from the dash. The police and fire department said they think that a relay inthe dash shorted out and caught fire. This could have happened with people in the vehicle....

Service traction light stays on. Turn signal lights blinked really fast and they light up everytime i push on the break.replaced brakes. Problem caused tail lamp circuit board and light bulbs to burn out and melt connectors.was unable to drive the vehicle because people on the road would not know when i was breaking and could possibly run into me.knocking sound on right wheel and steering wheel is loose.replaced stabilizers and sensors, rotated and balanced wheels. Scared that i may loose control of the car because it causes thetraction to turn off and the vehicle slides which could lead to a multi-car accident. It also needs new shocks; they are leaking.vehicle is running hot and is eating up the coolant.have already put 2 gallons in the vehicle since sept.water pump is leaking. Passenger window keeps getting stuck.dealership says that the door needs to be replaced because it is an electrical issue.the majority of the problems that i am having are due to electrical issues.if you google problems with this particular model, you will find that the complaints are regarding the same issues that i have stated.i am low income and cannot afford to keep spending money to hypothesize what is the cause.i need gm to find out what is wrong with this vehicle.i can't get out of my contract and this vehicle is a road hazard.i noticed the issue with the door the same that i test drove the vehicle.the dealership refused to repair it even though it was on the inspection report.still disputing issue with them.i noticed the problem with the wheel in april and have been constantly taking it back every since the first repair was done.

Vehicle was rented from a national car rental agency.engine stalled while accelerating just after decelerating at red light changing to green."battery charging system" light was illuminated.resulted in accelerator and brake failure. Vehicle was brought to a stop using emergency foot brake.no accident or injury.car restarted and functioned normally several minutes later.

While driving atnightheadlights and interior lights would occasionaly dim. Dealer has advised consumer thatdefectwas due togenerator that dropped power from control module, but did not have a remedy.

While driving, the front end of the vehicle vibrated.the vehicle would hesitated when accelerated after a complete stop or when slowing.the dealer was unable to remedy the problem.the consumer requested a refund for the vehicle.other problems are as followed:the vehicle felt as if it was going to stall when idled due to dirty injector(s), there was noise on driver side of the engine, the horn would go off by itself/dealer unable to duplicate, the cover in the rear hatch on the left side did not stay in place and reinstalled the panel door, the transmission had no reverse and grinds when placed in forward gears/removed transmission assembly and disassembled, there was clunking when in gear, the planetary gears were rounded, the transmission acted as if it wanted to take off, found a loose motor mount on the driver side and was tightened, the steering was stiff, and was noisy when turning right.*scc

I was coming back from pennsylvania to north carolina in july from a trip and when i arrived at my destination. I shut the car off and took the key out of the ignition, and i could not get out the car, did not unlock on its own. When i did get the car door open the radio was still playing, the windows were going up and down, and the on star was still on it was like that for 2 hours. When i finally got home from my friends house the same thing happened... We did hit a huge rain storm the whole way down. I have taking it to the dealership (brian pontiac), and they can not reproduce the problem.

Horn sounds on its own while driving, with no input from driver.also, alarm sounds (usually only 4 times) for no reason even when no one is near vehicle if key is used to lock the doors, as if it was susceptible to electrical interference.dealer can not find cause of problem.dt

June 16, 2001 while driving in parking lot vehicle shutoff and did not restart. Vehicle was towed to dealer. Dealer wrote on invoice wiring starting relay to pcm/and fuses were bad. On july 3 same defect occurred in parking lot, vehicle shut off. Towed to dealer .

Consumer stated left side brake light failed. Found that the circuit boardmalfunctioned and burned out. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer. Consumer was waiting for parts for the vehicle.ordered brake light circuit board on feb. 25th as of april 12th the part has not come in.

I think there must be some electrical malfunction in my van's wiring. I would like to know if other's have reported such trouble. This first started with my turn signals. They would come on by themselves while i was driving. Either the right or left or sometimes both would just start blinking, or nothing would show on the dash column but you could hear the clicking. That was 02/02. On august 28,2002 i had just started the van and pulled away from my daughter's school when a small stream of smoke begin to leak from the odometer area of the dash. The dealer is just across the highway so i decided to try and make it. I had not even gone a block before white smoke had filled the front cabin area and was filling the van. I pulled over shut off the ignition, got my 2 children out and called the dealer for help. They think when i turned off the switch the fire went out. I waited 30 minutes for them to come across the street to get me but no one showed. The man at the body shop where i stopped took us over to the dealer. They now say the cluster shorted out and has been replaced with a new one. They also say they have sprayed to help the smoke smell. They insist the van is safe but i do not feel like taking a chance with my children in the van. I would like to know if you have had any similar reports because pontiac says this is the first they have heard of such. Pleasegive me your opinion on my van's safety. I am very worried about the van's long term life.

The van when in park will revive the engine and jump, when stopping with new brakes and all that fun stuff when the van is doing this reviving state it takes longer to stop and like the van is fighting it. It sometimes over shifts when in this state when taking off from a light (does the reviving thing when moving. I am afraid one day it is going to jump and hit something or some one or not stop.

Bought this 2001 pontiac montana with 132000 miles a week before. Going to pick up my son from work, early evening, 14 degrees outside. I look down and my temperature gauge shoot up and the red temp gauge comes on. I pull over. Bubbling fluids is all i hear. First we started off with no heat a few days before that. We had the heater core flushed out and that seemed to work. Changed the water pump and thermostat. O2 sensors need to be replaced (1+3). Fuel pump is rusted. And the hydroponic lifters are loud. Like the style but having problems. Noticed a few steering issues.

Dexcool coolant leaked out of the intake manifold gasket overheated and stalled on the highway.had to have the garage replace the intake gasket, valve cover gasket and the cylinder head gasket.

At 95,000 miles, my 2001 pontiac montana van began to leak water and i took it to a local mechanic.he informed me that the intake manifold gasket was leaking and that it needed to be replaced or that it would damage the engine permanently.in order to verify the problem, i took it to the local pontiac dealer and the diagnosis was confirmed.both garages told me that they had repaired the same problem on many of the same engines that were used in chevrolets, pontiacs and oldsmobiles.the cost of the repair was in excess of $830.if these are inherent problems with these engines, why hasn't gm issued a recall?i repaired the same problem with my 1997 pontiac transport montana twice.when are they going to stand behind their product and repair the flawed design?

Pontiac montana--found a coolant leak around the intake manifold--this is a known problem that gm does not seem to want to address (much info on the internet pertaining to very angry gm owners)--luckily (maybe) the problem will be fixed "forever".

I own a 2000 chevy lumina and a 2001 pontiac montana both have6 cylinder engines and i have had to replace the head gasket on both of these vehicles. One has 50,000 miles and the other has 70,000 miles. The mechanic that did the repairs said he is replacing the head gasket gm's 6 cylinder vehicles all the time.

A/c condensor replaced in april 2002....evap core has large hole in it has to be replaced june 2003..currently no a/c service engine light has given false signals since ownership ..problem cannot be identified..

Engine on high idle at all times, vehicle runs even with the brakes applied. Difficult to handle during slow turns.

The air conditioner compressor has failed and my mechanic said he has had a rash of failures with the gm products, in fact he received a tech notice to the effect that he could expect a lot of trouble with this product. I called gm with no satisfaction, with so many failure they should take some responsibility for this failure. The cost for this item installed is over $800.00 and for anyone on retirement this is a major expense. I would like to know how many failure occurred and how many complaints gm has received over this. I would think they would be afraid to recall this product maybe it would put them out of business as they already are in deep trouble for not selling a good product. Thanks.

Leaking dexcool, needs mainifold gasket, very common problem with montanas and gm is aware of it and released a service bulletin on it # 03-06-01-010requiring a new intake manifold gasket be installed but at owners expense.crazy!

Vehicle was not producing heat for occupant compartment.noticed that coolant was low.took vehicle to dealer with prior knowledge from your site regarding the intake manifold issues with the montana and other gm vehicles.the intake manifold on my vehicle has failed, and is leaking coolant.no coolant ever reached the ground, as it was evaporating on the engine.there is a petition in line with over 10,00 signatures requesting a recall for this issue.

I bought a 2001 pontiac montana w/40,900 mi.in july 2004, on 8/18/2005 the head gasket blew out w/44,800mi.i towed to local garage where i was told to take to the dealer where i bought it, because of the "well known problems with the 3.4l engine cooling system" i have been quoted a price of $1325.00, gm said that they will pay $300.00

2001 pontiac montana with 38k mi. Observed coolant loss with no visible leak. Dealer diagnosed intake maniforld failure, repair cost of $971, no warranty coverage.

Coolant leak at intake manifold gasket.

Dexcool coolant leakage signs out of intake manifold, service professional reported it as a problem with gm 3.4 engines and would lead to costly engine repair if not fixed. Replaced gaskets etc cost $956.66000 klm.

The compressor for my 2001 montana, having only 68k miles was diagnosed as defective by jones pontiac service in lancaster.there was a crack in the compressor, which wasn't caused by wear & tear. The manufacturer, pontiac refused to replace this at a discounted cost.the replacement cost was $1,200.the compressor doesn't work, and would leak freon into the atmosphere if used.i haven't had this fixed or permitted freon to be filled into the compressor, so i haven't used the compressor.the compressor is needed to defrost the windows in the winter, which could cause a hazardous situation.i believe pontiac should hold the manufacturer accountable for this abnormal defect, and offer a 75% discount on the part.

Intake manifold gasket leaking causing dexcool to leak into engine.gasket had to be replaced. Gm has issued a service bulletinabout this problem and will do nothing to help the consumer.service bulletin # 03-06-01-010be aware!!!!!bulletin says new gasket must be made from a different type of material in order to correct problem.if this is the case why should we have to cover the expensive repairs???? somthing has to be done!

I had no heat in my van and took it in to see what the problem was. The automotive place that i took it informed me the gasket was leaking fluid and needed to be repaired immediately or it could seize the motor. I was also informed that these vehicles were know for this problem. The cost was to repair it was in excess of $850. A sum which i could not afford but had to put on credit as i need the vehicle to go back and forth to work. If this make and model are famous for this problem why have they not been recalled. It would sure be a gesture of good will on pontiac if they did.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana. The contact stated he noticed engine coolant leaking from the head gasket. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and the dealer advised the head gasket was defective and would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The approximate failure and current mileages were 102,000.

Oil filterlocated next to the starter w burned a hole inair conditioner line. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

Bought a 2001 pontiac montana with 102,400 miles on it and within three days of ownership the intake gaskets are blown. Repairs are estimated to be $700-$900 without knowing it has done more damage than that. Looked online and found a website that over 9600 people have signed that they had problems with that same engine 3.4l v6. There has been no recall from gm and i think that there should be. Why are we stuck with a bill that high, when it supposedly got rectified in 2002 vehicles. I am sure that there is more people out there that have had the same problems with the head and intake gaskets on these vehicles that has not yet signed the petition. The website address is: http://www.petitiononline.com/gmcnsmrs/petition.html please review! thank you.

I had the oil changed and then a few days later the van developed a leak of a red/pink fluid. I took it in to the place where i had the oil changed and then to a local pontiacdealer who also found the same problem. The problemis that thelower gasket went bad. It would take 1200 to 1500 usd to replace it. Both the local pontiac dealership and the goodyear tiredealership that first changed my oil said that it they found it a commonreplacement on this engine, the 3.4 l gm.

I was just driving to the store and all of a sudden without warning my van started to overheatand smoke the temp got to above 260 and it just stopped in the road. I had my children with me and had no idea what happened. My 17 year old son had to push me out of the road and i called my brother and he drove out to me and checked things out who is a mechanicand he said i blew a head gasket, he said these things happen but it should not have happened at 79,000 miles. I called around to see how much it would be to fix and so far no one will do it because it is alot of trouble.

Car began leaking engine coolant from the back of the engine with only 60,000 miles on the odometer.upon examination, it was found that the coolant leak was coming from the lower intake manifold gasket.this car has always run hot (between the half way mark and the red area of the gauge).the car finally overheated.the dealership said that there was no coolant in the engine, however the burp tank was nearly full, with no spillage.the dealership insisted that it overheated because of the leaking intake manifold gasket.we reluctantly agreed to replace the gasket to a tune of $1,376.00.the car still runs too hot in my opinion, but has not yet overheated.

The vehicle has stalled5 or 6 times in the 4 1/2 months since i have owned it. The first time i had just left work. About 1 mile from work at about 20 mph it stalled.this was a 2 lane residential area.i was able to fight off the panic, put on my flashers, and had just enough momentum to make it to the next block and coast into a storefront parking area.my husband suggested that i should shift to neutral and restart the vehicle.stalled on residential 4 lane highway.i had just exited the highway and was traveling at about 30 mph.the vehicle stalled.i shifted to neutral and restarted. Stalled at about 35 mph through rush hour traffic and i was on a 4-lane bridge.this time i was in the right lane, thank goodness, because again without any noise or warning lights/messages the vehicle stalled.stalled traveling to work on 4 lane divided highway at about 65 mph.i was coasting down a long hill toward my exit.the vehicle stalled, i shifted to neutral and it would not restart.i was able to coast to the exit and then to the side of the road.the vehicle did restart after several attempts.stalled on my way to work on a 6 lane divided highway at roughly 70 - 72 mph.i was in the center lane with vehicles on the left and right. When the vehicle stalls, the headlights, radio, heater, etc... Continue to operate without interruption.the motor completely stops working, however there is no power brakes and no power steering.

A malfunction withinexhaust system is causingfumes to escape, and resulting indriver and passengers becoming ill. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.

When driving my 2001 pontiac montana at highway speed i start to feel very dizzy, get headaches, almost faint.i was told a certain valve near the engine needed to be replaced, along with the oxygen sensor, the maf sensor, and the spark plugs needed to be replaced.after researching the internet it seems that many 2001 montanas have the same problems.which seems to me to be very dangerous.i have ended up in the urgent care and almost passed our several times.i have three young children and they are also affected by it, as well as my husband.i think the dealership needs to do a recall on this vehicle or something needs to be done.i have outstanding medical bills and am lucky that my and my family are still alive.so i am going to still research and see what i need to do because i am going to need to get this fixed, get another van which i can not afford, or get an attorney.thanks for any advice.

Intermittently when air conditioner is operating, we get a noxious chemical smell from air vents. Odor lasts for several minutes. This is not coming from outside because we are circulating inside air. We see no pattern to this. It happens at times when the temperature is very hot and also when temperature is moderate. We have had the montana to the dealer three times. They cannot come up with any fix. We are concerned that this may be detrimental to our health. The car stays cool, it's just the awful smell. The cabin filters are perfectly clean.

2001 pontiac montana brake system failure.customer states that her brake system failed unexpectedly. She wants general motors to reimburse her for fixing the vehicle.the consumer stated the brake line leakedonto the electronic brake control module which caused an electrical short. The intake manifold gasket had to be replaced previously on the vehicle. Updated 12/12/2007updated 12/12/07

After checking this web site,i found 8 recalls on my vehicle.i have never recieved a notice from gmor pontiac on any of these recalls.in addition, while the car was still under warranty, there was an antifreeze leak into the manifold and that problem has not been listed in the recall items.i was told it was a common problem by the dealership.additionally, after several complaints about my car horn - honking sporadicallythe dealership was unalbe to find the problem.i have had the car 4 years and this has occurred at least 10 times.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana.while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle began to overheat.the contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and it shut off completely.he waited approximately 30 minutes and then restarted the vehicle.the vehicle completely shut off again and he waited 30 minutes before restarting it to drive home.two days later, the vehicle was towed to a mechanic and he stated that there was water in the engine and the manifold intake gasket was cracked approximately two inches.the dealer has not been notified.the current mileage was 178,000 and failure mileage was 177,950.

I took my van for a free safety check and the mechanic said i had an intake leak which could do some major damage if it wasn't repaired. I took it to the dealership, and they agreed it was leaking, and found a tie rod problem. Along with those problems theysaid my tensioner on my front seat beltbroke. These repairs are over $1,000. If all these other people are having the same problem i would sure like an explanation. My dealership said it is a common problem with these vans. That sure sounds like the vehicleshould be recalled!

In june of 2004, the air conditioning failed in my 2001 montana mini-van. One day it worked, the next it didn't. Took it to a mechanic and was told the a/c condenser had to be replaced. Also was told that this was a common problem with the montanas. We were 10,000 miles past the warranty and had to pay $800 for this fix. If this is a common problem, why hasn't it been recalled?

One day my air condition was working and the next day it no longer work have taken to repair shop and was told i needed to get a new air conditioner was wondering if this is common in 2001 montana why haven't they did a recall on this van.

The air conditioning in the van doesn't work.stopped over a year ago.took it in for service and after 360.00 air still doesn't work.took it to another shop this year and they told us the condenser needs to be replaced and there is a leak in the line.were told the estimate to repair would be approximately $1100.00.when the shop called for the parts, they were told they were the 14th person ordering a condenser that day.why isn't this a recall issue?in the heat of the summer driving with windows open causes drag on the vehicle and diminishes the fuel consumption, never mind the discomfort of small children in the back who can open windows for relief.almost 1500.00 spent on a 6 year old car for air conditioning is obscene!

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana.whenever the contact would activate the air conditioner, either while driving various speeds or at a stop, only hot air would come out of the vents.the contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the air conditioner failure.also, on both of the sliding doors, the rubber bumper falls off whenever the doors are opened or closed.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 119,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.

Water is leaking from driver's information center in headliner of vehicle during and after rain.gmc has a service bulletin out to dealers but have told the dealers that they do not know how to fix it yet.i took the vehicle in last week to be fixed.the dealer thought it was.today (10/23/01) it leaked again fromthe same spot .

Headlights are opaque and water inside, requiring replacement.

Headlights became opaque also watergot inside. Headlights were replaced on my pontiac montana van.

The vehicle's brake lights and turn signals were not working properly. I found that both rear tail lamp housing assemblies connectors were badly burned, no water was entering the housing by the wiring harness.

I just recently purchased a 2001 pontiac montana and started having problems with the wire mounting in the tail lights.when the headlights are on and i push on the break the turn signal light dimly light on the dash, then when i have my right turn signal on and put my foot on the brake it blinks fast, also when the left turn signal is on the right one lights up on the dash.i feel that this is hazardous and should be addressed by your company.when you built the vehicle you used plastic wire mountings and they can't withstand the heat, this also shorts out my traction control in which it then shuts off.this is a manufacturing error and should be fixed by the company to keep your customers happy.the part to fix this problem is $55.00.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana.while driving noticed that the headlights provided inadequate illumination on the roadway.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer.the headlight lens exhibited excessive corrosion which was contributed to the weather.the current mileage was 120,000.the vin was unavailable. Dt: the contact states that her 2001 pontiac montero was having a problem with the headlights filling with water when it rains. This happenedfor three years. The vehicle was repaired by a dealership three years ago. Now there is the same problem with the headlights getting wet when it rains. The inside of the vehicle is getting wet also. The dashboard and instrument panel is getting wet. Hadto put a towel on the dashboard to keep it dry. The transmission iwasnot working, and in order to take it down, the mechanic will have to have the vehicle towed. The contact did not want to pay that high price to have the vehicle fixed.

Noticed that when the headlights were on and the turn signal was activated to the left or right that the turn signal indicator on the instrument panel was blinking as though my hazards were on.with the turn signal on, i circled the vehicle and observed that the commanded light was blinking appropriately but the opposite light was also blinking dimly.i proceeded to disassemble each turn signal indicator to search for corrosion or other damage and discovered that there was charring on the right rear circuit card at the connector.i contacted my pontiac dealer inquired if there was a recall for such an item and they told me no.i bought the part from pontiac installed it myself and have had no further trouble.i have seen other vehicles in traffic at night with evidence of the same indicator problem.

In 2010 ilearned my vehicle had an outstanding recall notice (07v349000) for a defective gas tank. I had the tank replaced by the dealer. Yesterday evening i noticed a strong odor of gasoline when i stepped near my vehicle. I went to my local ase certified mechanic and had him inspect the gas tank. He found it was leaking significantly at the filler neck. I then took the car to the dealer that had done the replacement. I requested they replace the defective tank. The told me the warranty was good for only one year or 12,000 miles. I told them that did not make sense. They replaced a supposedly defective unit with a defective unit. There is no visible damage to the gas tank. I got in touch with gm customer service dept. And they advised me to have the car inspected by the dealer and we would proceed from there. They will charge me $58 ( i don't know if it is taxable or not) to get the ball rolling. The mileage at the time of the original replacement was 122,727. The current mileage is 147,583. That equates to a little over 8,000 miles per year, in florida.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana.the contact stated that the fuel gauge was reading inaccurately and she was unable to determine how much fuel was actually in the vehicle.the dealer advised the contact of a remedy for the failurehowever, the contact was unable to identify what the remedy consisted of.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure.no repairs were performed.the current mileage was 160,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

Fuel gauge inappropriately reports amount of fuel in tank.gauge fails at approximately 15 gallons used.the tank sensor indicates no fuel upon reaching the above amount until the car is restarted which at that time reads full even when less is present.while driving the gauge will again return to the empty state even when adequate fuel is present in tank.this situation will continue until the tank is refilled.when refilled the amount of gasoline measured at the pump and indicated as needed is inaccurate up to 3 gallons more needed to fill tank.

While driving at highway speeds, engine check light illuminated and without warning vehicle suddenly began to jerk really hard. Consumer was informed there was a problem with transmission. There is a clunking/crunching noise from the engine when putting vehicle into gear, shutter under acceleration, dealer found that the fuel sender o-ring was leaking, also the transmission pan was full of metal.

I have a 2001 pontiac montana that is exhibiting the exact symptoms described in recall #07v349000. Pontiac claims that my specific vehicle is not covered under this recall notice. I believe it should be.

Defective throat w/ gasket on top of gas tank, allowingvapors and possibly liquid leakage.

Dt: contact states: the gas tank cracked at the seams and is leaked gasoline.the gas tank was made of plastic and cannotbe fixed..she called a dealer, and the dealer was getting lots of complaints about the same thing.but gmhas not issued a recall.the vehicle has not been fixed yet; but she was going to have it fixedas soon as possible.*sc

Fuel tank filler neck separated fromtank, causing fuel leakage.dealer has been notified.the consumer says the design of the fueltank and filler tube had flaw.

Ever since my husband and i bought the van it when you put it in a gear and step on the gas it would rev the engine and hit hard in gear and causing the van to jerk hard we took it to a mechanic where we were told and he said it was the drive shaft and replaced it and it should not jerk no more but it seems to be worse than it was when they fixed it.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana. The fuel gauge on the instrument control panel inaccurately displays the amount of fuel present in the fuel tank.on some occasions he would hear the low fuel warning indicator while fuel was present in the fuel tank.he had not taken the vehicle to the dealership nor had he spoken with the manufacturer to-date.the current mileage was approximately 133,000. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The tank leaks fuel at the inlet on the tank.customer is able to put no more than enough gas in the tank where is below the level on the inlet on the tank.

For some time now i have been having incidents where my gas pedal is hung up or stuck. I am to the point now i am scared to drive it. I have small children and everytime we get in the van its a danger.

While driving atnightheadlights and interior lights would occasionaly dim. Dealer has advised consumer thatdefectwas due togenerator that dropped power from control module, but did not have a remedy.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana. The contact noticed that when the automatic door lock was depressed to open the doors, they would not open. The contact had to manually push the lock down so that it would function properly. He continued to notice the failure intermittently. In november 2009, the doors stopped locking altogether which progressively became worse until the doors would not close. The contact called the manufacturerwho told him that there was a related recall for the failure but the repair had been performed previously. The contact stated that he never received a recall notice; the dealer informed him that he would have to pay a diagnostic fee to have the vehicle inspected. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. The current mileage was approximately 133,000.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana. The contact stated that the power sliding door would not latch when closing, causing the door to open when driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the latch failed. After contacting the dealer, the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 01v067000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch). The vin was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

I have a 2001 pontiac montana van. Approx 18months after purchasing this vehicle new, i experienced problems with the passenger side power sliding door. I took it to the dealership (3/03) where i purchased the vehicle and they replaced the contacts. In 6/03 i again experienced problems, they sanded the contacts and worked for a length of time. They instructed me to sand the contacts when the problem reoccurs. I have experienced problems with the door opening. I have experienced problems with the door not staying shut, meaning when the button is pushed and the door closes it will reopen. My most recent problem has occured in 2/05. The power sliding door when opened would open and then immediately start shutting again. Again i returned it to the dealer and they have fixed this problem. This power sliding door has been a continual problem since march 2003.

Power sliding door on a poniac montana minivan:the passenger was opening the power sliding door from the inside and got her forearm trapped between the inside door handle and the seat (hand pulling back on the handle and as the door slid open her elbow was pinned against the seatback).since the door did not automatically reverse, it continued to open and eventually broke one of the bones in jonit's forearm.

No events lead up to failure.when my 5 years old daughter opened the driver side sliding door of our 2001 pontiac montana extended minivan from inside, the sliding door fell off and landed on the ground atteched onlyby bottom bolt.if any small child had been present outside the minivan they would have been severely injured by thefalling door.we have been the sole owner of the minivan, the vehicle has been garaged and maintained.the vehicle has ~42k miles. The vehicle was repairedat long's pontiac in framingham, mai am concerned that as these family vehicles age a child may be injured from a falling door.the repairs consisted of parts replacement and repairing damaged caused to outside of door as hit driveway surface.no modifications were known to make sure this event not happen again.

Problems with pass side power sliding door.it opens back up after it is almost shut.door doesn't unlock itself unless you bang on it.opened once by itself. Has been in for sevice 3 times but not repaired.ts

My five year old son opened the passenger sliding door and stepped out from the van. When the door had been closing, he forgot to remove a toy from his seat, so he reached inside and the sensor didn't register there was something blocking and continued to close. Which thankfully, my husband was there to physically open the sliding door from crushing my little boys arm even further. My son had part of his arm stuck in that door!( right above his elbow.)my little boy won't even sit on the passenger side any longer. And doesn't like even going near that side. Shouldn't there be a better, more sensitive sensor on those doors? one time the door didn't even discontinue from closing with myself testing it.

I would like to let you know about the 2001 pontiac montana mini van that i have. After about 3 months that i owned the van my two sliding doors (not power sliding) the locks on them either started to either not lock or would lock and stick. This has been a problem for awhile as well as the rear power window motors are out and the windows will not open at all this just happened without any warning and i think that this needs to be addressed before something does happen to any one.

While i was on a business trip in october, 2007, my wife called me and advised me that she was unable to close the manual sliding door on the driver side of our pontiac montana minivan after returning home from running my children around.she was finally able to close it after several frustrating attempts. Upon returning from my trip the following week, i examined the door and noticed that it did not close properly due to the misalignment of the latch.it seems that the door may have drifted slightly from its track.i looked closely at the latch mechanism and noticed that the black paint had came off where the latch was supposed to have hooked on.obviously, the concern that i have is that the door will unlatch while the vehicle is in motion potentially causing harm to my children.the minivan is almost 7 years old and i can't afford to invest a whole lot of money to fix what seems to be a manufacturer defect or design flaw.

When openingdoor consumer's right thumb got caught in sliding door handle. Also, handle was trapped betweenconsumer's fingers and thumb, which made it very difficult to release. This was a rental vehicle. Right rear door opened on consumers right wrist, elbow, and shoulder, consumer could not get his hand out of the door handle, consumer states that the driver door open switch should be disabled or inactivated, and also the switch on the door column right side behind the passenger should be removed, consumers finger was injured, vehicle had been rented from national rent a car.

Consumer states while stopped at an incline and foot off the brake, vehicle will begin to move backward, consumer feels this should not happen with a vehicle that is equipped with an automatic transmission.

Vehicle made a clunk on sunday june 19,2005 while backing out of a parking spot and going into drive.drove it home 80 miles without any other symptom.drove vehicle the next day 3 miles, and the transmission had a major internal failure while taking off from a stop light.wife and 2 small children were stranded in an intersection with a vehicle that would not move.had vehicle towed to local dealership.needs a $2800 transmission repair.dealer in possesion of old parts.

Transmission slams into gear ,tranmission surges at freeway speeds.

When the vehicle is placed in gear there is a scraping noise.this noise was first noticeable in reverse only.however it started happening in drive as well.also when braking at intersections the engine completely disengages and free wheels.then when accelerating again it takes a second or two for the transmission to re-engage.the dealership heard the noise and experienced the problem.then the transmission completely broke on their drive during this problem's evaluation.the transmission had to be replaced after only 41,500 miles.there was internal metal debris throughout as well as lots of gear damage.*ph

Sun gears seperated. Contaminated transaxle internally.dt

At 64,000 the transmission broke.i was told it has damaged gears in it which caused metal fragments to damage the transmission and it will have to be replaced.after looking on this website and speaking to previous owners of this vehicle this appears to be a common problem.

Upon starting vehicle, after it had been driven and parked, itlaunched forward.then, after driving for a mile, vehicle wouldn't go into drive or reverse whenconsumer attempted to parkindriveway. Dealership determined that transmission was defective, and needed to be replaced.

2001 pontiac montana.this van is now a paper weight in my drive. After 53,000 miles the transmission is shot! of course the warranty is null and void so i will have to cough up $2000.00 - $3000.00. Not a happy pontiac owner!!!!!!

Automatic transmission vehicle rolls backwards down inclines when in drive. Also, rolls forwards when in reverse. Have had this problem since we bought the vehicle.

The transmission on my 2001 pontiac montana minivan failed at 61,700 miles. I had purchased the extended warranty for 60,000 miles. Through the dealers help, gm will absorb half the cost of the $2,000 repair.

Transaxle slips in stop and go traffic as engine temperature reaches 200 degrees. Slippage increaces as temperature increases over 200 degrees. Dealer cannot reproduce during short test drives. Vehicle only has 35,000 miles on transaxle.

At 60,000 miles the transmission is junk. I took my van to two different transmission shops and both said the same thing, it needs to be repalced or rebuilt! i quote "we see alot of these pontiac montanas come in, the transmission gives out between 50,000 and 70,000 miles." the planetary gears are shot, 4th clutch gone, metal debris through out the transmission!!!!

Consumer states while stopped at an incline and foot off the brake, vehicle will begin to move backward, consumer feels this should not happen with a vehicle that is equipped with an automatic transmission.

Van slides backwards while stopped on an incline if the foot is off the brake. This happens while driving and the transmission is in drive,if i stop on an incline and then release the foot brake to resume driving , the van rolls backwards. We spoke with the service department at the koons of manassas. We were told that this is a normal feature for this type of engine and nothing can be done about this. We request.you to look into this problem, thank you

My mom has a 2001 pontiac montana . This weekend, she put my 19 month old daughter in her car seat in the 2nd row seat. At one point during the weekend, mom stopped hard and the seat with my daughter in it flipped forward, with my daughter in it. My daughter's face hit the driver seat back. She got a bloody nose and a black eye, and fortunately that was all.after some investigation, i found that when a car seat is installed with a tether, and the tether is tight, it is very easy to accidentally trigger the release of the seat base mechanism, allowing the seat to tilt forward. The tether bracket is attached to the bar that is part of the mechanism for releasing the seat. When the tether is tightened, it begins to move the mechanism. It only takes a good bump, such as form sliding the seat back on its rails, to completely release the seat and allow it to tilt forward under hard braking or a collision.

The vehicle was stolen and involved in a high speed wreck which neither air bags deployed.the owner indicated that the seats detached from the floor board.nlmthe consumer states that the vehicle rolled several times and slid on its top.the dealer told the consumer that the air bags would only deploy at a certain speed and angle.*scc

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac montana.when the brake pedal was depressed, the contact heard the abs lock up and the vehicle continued to roll forward.she stated that the vehicle would stop regularly, but would continue to roll forward when driving between 5 and 10 mph.on september 24, 2007, the failure resulted in the contact rear ending another vehicle.the other vehicle was not damaged.the contact's vehicle sustained damages to the driver and passenger side headlights and the hood.the vehicle was taken to the dealer in april and june of 2007 regarding this failure.on both occasions, she was informed that nothing was wrong with the vehicle, however, she and her husband believed that there was brake failure.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 114,701.

The brakes on my 2001 pontiac montana wear out prematurely.i had to replace the front pads 3 times in 2 years.in each case the inboard pad had excessive wear and the outboard pad did not.i have been informed the wear indicators are on the outboard pads, this presents a lack of warning to the driver that the brakes are in need of service.the calipers have been replaced once and this did not solve the problem.

Mid may 2011...i purchased a 2001 pontiac montana from an older woman (70-80's).she had purchased the vehicle new and she lived near tuscon, arizona.the vehicle was/is in great condition (no rust, etc.) for being 10 years old...and had only 44,000 miles on it.since i bought the van...i put on maybe 1500 miles.within the first month...i had a few issues...one being extremely dangerous.on thursday, june 16, 2011 as i backed out of the driveway...i noticed a weird feeling with the van...almost a squishy feel.i thought i maybe had a flat tire.i checked and it looked fine.my mom picked up my 14 month old daughter later that day with my van...and as she was making a left hand turn from a stop sign...she said that it felt as though the back end of the van slid out from under her.she pulled over as she thought maybe she had a flat tire.that looked fine.then she got out again and rechecked the lug nuts on the tires.those were tight.then she thought that perhaps she hit something in the road.as she turned the van around to check the intersection she just came through...the van wobbled horribly.upon inspection...the trailing arm on the rear passenger side was broken clean in half.you could move the tire completely around so it could touch the all parts of the wheel well.we've taken it to a few mechanics...and all cannot figure why or how that happened.all of them have said, however, that this trailing arm seems to be pretty thin metal when you consider it's holding your tire on!and...the way it broke...it's almost as if there was a flaw from the manufacturer.since then...we have had it welded.but...i haven't driven the vehicle much.i'm extremely hesitant with my now 15 month old daughter in the van.i'm so grateful this incident didn't happen on the freeway!it could have been a rollover.we are trying to discuss this with gm to see what they can do.

The wiper blades were going and they pushed the falling snow into the compartment, packing it in. There is not enough heat in the compartment to melt all the snow, so it freeze.the wiper blades could not return down therefore stopping in the middle of the windshield obstructing the view. Possible design flaw.

During operation ofvehicle in inclement weather conditionswindshield wipers intermittently freeze in place from packed snow, and will not function properly. Dealership not examinedvehicle.please provide any additional information / documentation.8ak

Driver side wiper assembly began to move the end of the blade past the top outer part of the wind shield a month ago and did not return as far down out of sight as previously. During the rain last night it stopped. Blocked the passenger wiper from moving and the passenger blade snapped off and loosened the washer tip. Cannot drive in the rain now due to poor visibility/failure of the driver side wiper. Waiting for clear weather to have it repaired. I believe this has occurred in later year gm trucks by postings on the internet. Had to wait out the rain for hours last night to get home.

The ponitac montana is a 2001 and i already have bad rims, one is warped and 2 are bent.
