The van has had multiple air bag system failures and the dealership has been unable to repair the problem.gm refuses to repurchase the vehicle even though it has a history of abs and air bag failures.the gm district manager admitted that they have had problems with the central computer system on the 2000 montana.the dealership replaced the original computer system and the replacement also failed.we are particularly concerned about the air bag failures.we will never know if they work until we need them.at that point it's a little late to discover that they don't work.do montanas have a high rate of air bag failures during accidents?
Driving on the freeway going about 65 mph, a car lost control and ran intocenter divider and i collided with that car. The passenger side belt did not hold my wife back into her seat. Air bags did go off. Her face was badly hurt twice, once buy the dash from stopping very sharply and the seatbelt not holding her back and the other by the air bag smacking her face when we collided.
Was traveling 40-45mph when another vehicle was trying to make a turn around, u-turn, and cut off pontiac.vehicle was hit on driver's rear side. Upon impact with other vehicle, air bags failed to deploy. No injuries.
We were involved in an auto accident on july 5, 2001 in a head-on collision which killed my husband immediately and my son died two days later due to head injuries. I was injured with rib fractures/ low back spinal fractures and my left leg required surgery.i am unable to bear weight on my left leg for approximately six months. A car was going east on i-40 and i was going west. It crossed the median trying to miss a ladder that had fallen out of another vechicle and it hit us head-on.airbags did not inflate upon impact.front passenger did inflate after we were removed, andvan caught on fire. My son might have been saved if the airbags had inflated since the car went down the side of my van. We all had our seatbelts on. My son was only seven years old.

I was stopped at a red light in front of a hospital's pedestrian walkway. A woman in a 1994 silverado truck rear ended me. She was traveling 35mph. Did not see stopped traffic. My steering wheel airbag did not deploy nor any other airbag. The second impact this year and no airbag deployment insurance, deems vehicle still safe. They came and looked at damage. Knowing daughter suffered a tbi in march for same defect they are not recognizing.
Was driving, turned wheel slightly to right, vehicle wouldn't respond and continued to go left, total loss of steering.went across lane, hit at moderate speed a hydro pole severed and moved 4 feet by impact.air bags did not deploy.i received multiple injuries, as well as my 2 children sustained whiplash.
Daughter 23yrs old. Began to cross into intersection with traffic. A white truck came turning left hitting the vehicle to her right and clipping the front right side of the pontiac montana. The vehicle to her right lost a piece of the bumper which was a dodge they did not stop.she lost conciousness.found herself stopped.and traffic was passing by her no one stopped.pieces of the cars were left in the intersection. We have pictures.her air bag did not deploy.
Srs bag light steadily on and seat belt light man on dash chimes for no reason and blinks on/off. Took in to pontiac 6/18/04, they fixed wiring harness that day (unclear on invoice) we just bought the vehicle in may 2004. A few weeks later we had the same problem and took it back in, just to hear that it was a cluster this time, they claim they're were toys under the seat and a plug was broken but the only toys in there were little hot wheels. So, they put in a new cluster and here we are three weeks later and i am still having the same problem with the seat belt man light and the srs bag light on the dash. Pontiac will look at it again, they say, but i cannot see that one part after another needing to be replaced every two weeks and the outcome is always the same with the same item defaulting(seat belt guy light/srs air bag light on dash stays on).
Driving through an intersection and was broadsided by another vehicle and the passenger side airbags did not deploy.*la
While wife was driving about 45 mph another vehicle crossed the mid line andcrashed intoconsumer's vehicle head-on.upon impact, passenger's side air bag deployed, but driver'sside did not deploy.
Consumer states that the integrated child seat top latch can be undone if tugged on. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
The seat that houses the infant safety seat can be lifted to allow passengers in the far back of the minivan.i had let my daughter in the back seat and thought i had locked the seat back in place.i then buckled my 15 month old daughter into the 5 point restraint, built-in car seat.while driving, we came to a quick stop and the entire seat flew forward, hitting my daughter's head on the seat in front of her.she sustained an abrasion to her forehead and vomitted immediately after the impact.she has had no further problems.i am concerned there is no warning on the seat that houses the child safety seat to let you know whether it has been locked in place.the seat is heavy and even with pulling forward, it may seem locked.there should be some way to confirm this seatis locked in place. After two recalls from gm over several months.dealer avoids repairs.right elec. Sliding door recalled for hazardous inside handle. Could brake fingers.no correction was been attempted. Dealer avoids ordering parts so replacement can't take place.
The contact owns a 2000 pontiac montana.the contact stated that after driving and parking the vehicle for 10 minutes she noticed smoke coming from the dashboard.she tried to put the fire out with water but when she did flames started to come out of the vents.wires were melted and the heating system and the cd player were also destroyed.the fire department responded and put the fire out.the police were not called. The manufacturer had not been contacted at the time of the complaint.the failure and current mileages were approximately 158,171. The vin was unknown.
Several days prior to engine overheating experienced electrical affecting the radio -- then engine overheated requiring vehicle to be towed -- two more time that same week after being repaired each time the engine overheated -- on third time mfg. Replaced engine completely.three weeks after new engine installed the electrical problems with radio reoccurred as well as interior & exterior lights flickering followed a few days later with the "new" engine overheating. In repair shop now for fourth repair.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, all of the instrument cluster panel warning lights illuminated.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer, who determined the ignition switch needed to be replaced.after the replacement, the problem persisted.the vehicle was again inspected by the dealer who performed a diagnostic test, which did not produce any failure codes.the manufacturer was alerted.
Vehicle will stall at any speed with cause unknown. Dealership has made changes/repairs which will eventually reoccur from weeks to six months.stalling started at 7,000 miles.please describe details.
Ignition shuts off with no warning, speed slow or fast. Usually restarts after turning off ignition, not always. Info center displays "security" or "service traction soon". Ignition switch replaced 2x.dt
Vehicle stalls while driving, and will intermittently start.also, sliding doors lock up. Dealer inspectedvehicle & moved the spark plug over thinking it was causing the disruption.

Van stalled out two times within a 3 week period. After stalling i would try to start it and it would turn over but would not start. Both times i had it towed to my auto repair shop. Both times i received a call from them and they said while they were performingb a diagnostic test it would start. They returned it to me and i had the same problem all over again.
We were driving our brand new montana van at about 25 miles per hour when the engine just stopped. We had all other electrical working (doors, windows, tv) but the motor would not turn over. It was difficult to steer to the side of the road. This was at 731 miles on the odometer. We had it towed to a dealership and after 3 days they claimed it was a blown fuse. We picked up the van and tried to drive it home. We made it 40 miles and it died again. Appears to be the same problem. Had it towed to the dealership in our home town and they have had it for 4 days and still can not find out what has caused it to stop. In the meantime, they are racking up the miles on our new vehicle and even if they give us the van back, we are not sure we will ever feel safe in it again. Because of the lack of steering and braking control when this happens, we are afraid that there may be an accident, or that we could get stranded anywhere. This is a major concern. The minor problem was that the passenger side windshield wiper flipped over the side of the vehicle and scratched and dented the passenger door frame. A little loss of control. Please inform us if there is a problem with the montanas and the engine quitting.thank you.

Gas gauge fluctuated and antifreeze leaking.diagnosed as leaking intake manifold gasket and wiring harness for fuel assembly was corroded due to exposure to moisture - repair bill $1400.
I would like to report a possible manufacture defect of my 2000 pontiac montana.there was electrical damage within the engine compartment due to the factory (where the vehicle was assembled) miss routing of the harness from the positive cable of the battery.the harness was found, by the mechanic, to be routed over the air conditioner, which in-time burned through to the bare wires, which in-turn shorted out causing damage to the pcm and battery plus burned out most of the wiring connected to the positive cable of the battery.according to the mechanic who preformed the repairs, this problem appears to be a manufacture defect and considering the year and mileage of the vehicle this should not have happen.the pcm, battery and wiring had to be replaced, with new harness; in addition the mechanic had to re-route the harness under the engine in order to prevent it from burning up again in the future.the vehicle would not start and had to be towed to a local pontiac dealer.total repair bill $823.00 not including towing.
Consumer noticed smoke coming from the rear vents. Dealer determined the rear wiring harness had melted, caused by water intrusion in rear quarter panel. Ts
While traveling and when running over trash on highway fuel wires become undone, causing vehicle to stall.the wiring under the body between front to back frame support and fuel tankwas exposed to road hazard.
A fire started in the engine compartment while parked. Dealer andmanufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further infromation.
Vehicle experienced stalling, dealer repaired the harness located under the driver's side, there was a space that was too large for the connector that would cause it to ark and stall the vehicle.

I did not realize every owner of a pontiac montana all had same problems. Every owner. Here is one of the websites. Http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/comment/3340529. The dealer sold me a pontiac montana. The second day i drove it, i ran out the gas because the gas gauge read full, but actually it was empty. I did not realize the gas gauge stops working until every owner had the same problem. Every owner had a condenser problem. Every owner. Which in turn makes the head gasket go. I am a single parent and did not understand that numerous calls to gmc were made and no recalls has been done. It is shameless, how people like me are struggling and these car dealers made billions with faulty equipment. If you google pontiac complaints. Every owner had the same problem. Every owner. I cant afford to replace a motor because of the head gasket. I am still making payments on this car loan. Isn't their a law that can help victims like us. It should be shameful how gmc has sold pontiac vehicles with so many faulty equipment.i need help. If every single owner had the same condenser, same, heating problem, same gas gauge, same blown head gasket as a result. Pontiac gmc should be forced to pay.
This is a addon from the previous one i submitted just now. I want to point out. I was almost killed when i ran out of gas on the highway, because the gas gauge read incorrectly. When the engine become hot, it almost started a fire. I am a single parent with a ten year old. Dealers are still selling these pontiac montana's. We do not know how many deaths it may have already caused. Or how many women and children were stranded, because the gas gauge reads incorrectly, it will say its full but it is actually empty. The condensers go, which cause a blown head gasket. I cannot afford to replace the motor, and i already put out close to a thousand dollars already. The first month i bought it from a dealer. Every owner has had the same exact problem. Every owner. Here is one of the websitesi did not realize every owner of a pontiac montana all had same problems. Every owner. Here is one of the websites. Http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/comment/3340529. You can google pontiac montana complaints and their are hundreds of website complaints on the same exact problem. But gmc refused to recall since the complaints first started.

Consumer complained about vehiclecutting off.tookvehicle to a mechanic, and mechanic stated water was getting into the oil.
I purchased the vehicle at 72,000kms (45,000) miles and shortly afterward noticed that coolant needed to be topped up occasionally over the subsequent six month period. There was no evidence of coolant leaking into the crankcase, but there was a pool of coolant collecting externally under the intake manifold. After some on-line investigating, i contacted my local dealer, inquiring as to whether this was a common problem. I was told that it was likely the intake gaskets and sometimes the gaskets "get old and dry up" but that it was not overly common. They quoted me apx $800 to repair. ($350 for the intake gaskets and "numerous" other gaskets that would require replacement plus labour). I politely commented that i was baffled how a 3 year old plastic gasket could be classified as "old and dried up". I subsequently had an independent mechanic replace the gaskets using the newly issued version of the gaskets for a total of apx $450. (he had coincidentally run into the same problem a couple of weeks prior on another gm v-6 product, but apparently the coolant leakage was internal and too late to salvage the engine). Mileage at the time of repair on my vehicle was apx 86,000 kms (54,000 miles). He confirmed that upon removal the only evidence was external leakage. I have another 10,000kms on the vehicle since repair and no leakage is apparent at this point.
Gas gauge fluctuated and antifreeze leaking.diagnosed as leaking intake manifold gasket and wiring harness for fuel assembly was corroded due to exposure to moisture - repair bill $1400.
Van had the same problem with the intake manifold gasket that is apparently extremely common with this vehicle. It cost me about $800 to have the repair done at a local mechanic. It would have cost more than $1200 to have it done at the dealer. Shame on gm for not issuing a full recall for this obvious defect!
My parents bought a 2000 montana van in november of 2002. It seems to be leaking antifreeze. The local gm dealer where they purchased it, says it is the intake manifiold gaskets. For $2,500 they could repair the problem. I took the matter up with the owner of the dealership, and showed him a copy of a gm service bulletin which talks about the problem with the gasket material and asked him what they would do about it. He said he would look into it but could not promise anything. An update is that he said that gm would possibly cover 99.9% of the bill. The reason he gave was that the origional owner of the van purchased it at the same dealership and had it regularily serviced there and they have all the service records. The van had 97,000 km when my parents purchased it, since then they have only added 1000km, my parents also figured it was leaking from the day it was purchased. I am not sure if the dealer did an inspection, you would think they would and a leak would have been found.the van is being repaired at the moment, so we will see what comes of this.
Transmission went out at around 44000 miles. Dealer said the "lip seal" failed inside transmission, after taking it in several times for diagnosis. Would not assist with repair cost. Ended up having it repaired at aamco.a/c is currently out on the low setting (#1).not yet repaired.just repaired the cooling system.dealer said it was an internal leak. Van kept getting low on coolant, had to keep filling it up, however never saw a leak. Dealer said problem with the manifold, and coolant was leaking thru and being evaportated, therefore no telltale leak.cost $600 to repair (at 53,000) miles.i hate this van.this is the worst one i've had.unfortunately, i did not buy an extended warranty.
I won a 2000 pontiac montana and i noticed over the past year that i was loosing a little anti-freeze over time. The rate increased over the past month until the "engine overheated light" came on. When taken to the repair shop, they told me that the intake manifold gasket was leaking and i was loosing anti-freeze through the gasket. They also said this was a common problem for gm 3.1 and 3.4 liter engines.
Fuel gauge reads full when empty and empty when under 3/4 of a tank. Message center alarms telling me that i am out of fuel but when i stop at the gas station it will only hold no more than five dallors. Also i have had to have the break lights replaced sevrel times. The rear motorized window on the driver side does not always shut when pressing the button. And engine is quick to overheat. Also the passanger sliding door does not always latch properly, lock and unlock when buttons pressed. The sad thing about it is i have only had the van for just under a year. The van is only five years old and i am already having this kind of problems out of it. Needless to say i will never own another pontiac (gm).
2000 pontiac montana; 3.4ltr 6cyl: "service engine" soon light prompted service visit. Tech told us that codes indicated that intake manifold gaskets had failed and that engine oil and coolant were leaking. Such leakage caused oil contamination of the coolant as well as coolant contamination of the oil. Technician further commented that this was an extremely common problem with the gm 3.4 ltr 6cyl engine and had been known to gm for several years, but had never been fixed. Repair costs approx$800 and must be done since the related codes will cause failure of annual emissions testing and vehicle license tags will not be issued. Internet research on this defect confirmed that problem is widespread and well known. Gm should be forced to recall all affected vehicles.
2000 pontiac montana with faulty intake manifold gasket at 42k
My 2000 pontiac montana with a 3.4 litre engine was leaking fluid on the garage floor.i took it to a local mechanic and the technician said that the intake gasket was the cause of the problem.he replace the intake gasket and bolts.the total cost was $674.94.the technician also mentioned that this is a common problem with gm v-6 engines.
Problems with paint, gaskets, brakes and cooling system. *mr there was a hissing noise which had come from the tire area due to misalignment, low coolant light had come on, the gaskets ,oil pump and drive o-ring were replaced, the brake pedal had gone to the floor while stopped at a light which happened more than twice and seemed as if they weren't going to work at all and had to pump the pedal to bring the pedal back enough to allow stopping.there was an incident where the consumer had to activate the emergency brake to avoid an accident.the warning light never had come on.the master cylinder was replaced, the front brake pads, resurfaced rotors, cleaned and adjusted rear brakes.other problems are as followed:the trim on the driver side windshield had come apart, the handle on the back latch had come off, and both turn signal bulbs needed to be replaced. *scc
Loosing coolant, coolant in oil.problem was diagnosed as intake manifold gasket leak.problem still exists after repair on 04-01-03, 24,535 miles.current mileage 26,000.extended warranty covered $301.21 of the repair.rowan pontiac/gmc did not want to honor extended warranty for the rental car, zero deductible, or the repair itself.
Engine spuddering and died. Will not start. Garage found coolant in oil. Had internal engine damage. Engine being replaced. Suspect premature failure of intake manifold gasket or dex-cool coolant causing problem. Need to investigate.*nlm
Consumer states that while driving and without warning the intake manifold cracks causing fluid to leak. Dealer notified. Ts
My montana has had problems since i bought it used at a certified gm used car lot at lindsey cheverolet. It has been buring through at least 2 quarts of oil or more with-in less then 700 miles. I took it in to the dealership and they checked for leaks but could not find any. There is no smoke from the engine or tail pipe. There is no leaks on the engine anywhere or at the oil pan. They would not do anything about it. I have browsed the web and have found other owners that are having the same problem with their 2000 pontiac montana. I do not have the kind of money to spend on oil like it is going out of style. Is there any recalls on this problem or can anyone else help me.
Head gasket failure, which alot of other people with 2000 pontiac montanas have complained about also...gm is doing nothing about this and they know about the problem.
Lower manifold and water pump are both leaking on vehicle.*mrthe water pump and the manifold gaskets needed to be replaced. The first major failure occurred the day after the consumer took delivery of the vehicle. The vehicle wouldn't come out of first gear. This was the result of thevehicle being shipped without transmission fluid.the transmission had to be replaced.*ph
Engine - vehicle was leaking coolant through intake manifold gasket into engine. Intake manifold needed to be resealed.pontiac assistance is refusing to help at this time. This is a common problem with the v6 and gm is refusing to acknowledge it.emission - secondary air injection pump failed at 33025 miles and was covered under warranty. This pump failed again at 44000 miles, just 8 months later and cost 160.00 for labor. Emission pumps should last longer than 8 months.power window - drivers side power window motor failed 9/2002 at 38500 miles.faulty wiring cluster needed to be replaced at 12528 (n/c).
My wife and i were on a rural road in northern michigan when our van stopped running with no prior problems. We ended up walking almost seven miles in bitter cold to get back home. Later on we learned that the dex type coolant had leaked into the engine and caused the cam to fail.
At 26,000 miles my van started leaking coolant, alot of it. I took it to the dealership nearby and the mechanic took a quick look and said it would need the engine pulled and all the rubber rings or gaskets in the engine replaced because they were leaking and it was a common problem with this vehicle. He said they need to be replaced with better quality ones because that was the reason they were leaking, that they broked down quickly because they were inferior. And all this would cost me around $1,000. Updated 07/24/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
2000 pontiac montana 3.4 liter numerous coolant leaks at intake area at about 60,000 miles. Also coolant cooler allowed oil to get in to the coolant system. I retorqued intake and aleviated problem for about 10,000 miles and then came back.ended up having dealer replace intake gaskets and they informed me that gm had redesigned the gaskets because of an epidemic of this exact problem. The dealer designated 1 mechanic to specialize with this defect and i talked to the mechanic and he ingformed me that he had done this so much that he could do the wokk in about 3 hrs versus the original 6 to 7 hours it took him the first time his quote "you do it as much as i have and you get very efficient". Gm should have recalled and made good on the repair.in the last 20 years i have bought 6 new gm vehicles and i am very dissappointed that the dealer/corporate would not make good on the repair. It cost me $550.00 for dealer repair. I want to be reimbersed for the repair cost for this is a known defect that gm chose to ignore other that making sure that the newer montanas (3.4l) have the new designed gaskets.
Intake manifold gaskets failed at 50k, were replaced in january of 2002.now in april 2003 we have the same problem with the intake manifold gaskets leakingand have antifreeze leak in the water pump as well.
1/3/04 van failed to start-reason unknown. Took to mechanic to check out and discovered oil leak in the engine at 50,000this is crazy, this type of thing should not happen at 50,000 milesthis is obviously a problem in the engineering or part that are being used.
1.while getting my tires rotated, carx noticed my coolant was leaking.2. Antifreeze was getting into the engine, and if not fixed would damage it.2. Took car to pontiac dealer.bill to fix was $650. Replaced the lower intake gasket.
I have 3 children, one disabled.i should have known from day 1 when the manual sliding door broke two weeks after purchase.almost killed my disabled child when it sprang open on him.dealer, said he broke it, a child with full body muscle disorders who can't lift a brick.now we have had unending problems with the engine, coolant levels, the car smells like burnt plastic often, times when i went to start it, nothing happened.now i am told that the engine will seize soon.interesting since i always changed the fluids on time and i have only owned it for 5 years.both side doors do not work, automatic works sometimes, manual comes off the track.one of the rear passenger seats does not fold properly.the car often feels as though it has "bad gas" jerking back and forth while driving it.i am afraid, i have three kids in the car usually.i needa car and now with no money and no ability to buy a new one, i am told that the car will seize if i do not spend $4000 to replace the engine.i am getting a second opinion but from what i am reading, it seems feudal.shame on gm!! why wasn't this car recalled??? this is a van, a family car!!!you want to kill children????i am writing my congressman and the better business bureau.this car should have been taken out of circulation until the problems were ironed out.if something happens to my children, i will make it my personal crusade to shut down all gm plants.the amount of money i put into this car is ridiculous when i had a 20 year old volvo that is still running.shame on america!this is why our industries are failing and we must turn to foreign countries.so i have a car that i do not know what to do with.i seriously have no money to replace the engine nor buy a new car.i have children in 3 different schools the oldest needing therapies each day that i must drive him to.what am i to do?
2000 pontiac montanaintake gasket failed...i've read all the other complaints and just wanted to add mine. I called gm and they said they did not have any complaints relative to this problem, and there was no recall either. I have never used anything but dexcool in this van, now it is going to cost me to have it fixed for following directions....now i understand why pontiac is being dropped by gm they would not be able to pay all the repair bills if the owned up to their mistake...goodbye pontiac!!!!!!!!
Dealer replacedlower intake manifold and related sealer. Also, replaced the water pump, and flushed the cooling system. Coolant went into the engine.
Intake gasket leaking coolant.this is a gross misconduct on behalf of gm allowing these to fail without any compensation.no events leading up to this failure...just drive normally.consequences are $1200 to replace a gasket that should have lasted more than six years.
My 2000 pontiac montana has coolant leaking into the engine through the intake manifold.i noticed the problem today when i changed the oil.problem has not been corrected yet.at about 50,000 miles i had to start adding a little coolant to the reservoir with every oil change, but it wasn't enough to notice the water in the oil.now, with nearly 80,000 miles the leak is bad enough that the coolant light recently came on.
2000 montana leaked coolant from lower intake gasket.
I have a 2000 pontiac montana and have had a coolant leak problem.my van has only 66k miles on it and has been in 2 times for coolant leaks.on 11/26/04 i had a coolant leak and had to have lower manifold gasket replaced.on 12/2/04, leaking coolant into the interior and now have bad heater core.i have been researching and there are many other problems of the same exact cause.i believe this is a manufacturer defect and should be compensated back what i paid out.
00montana has been at dealer 3 times in 8 days.the low coolant level light came on & would not go off.took veh to dealer on a tues was informed would have back in 2-3.after review there was a leak in the lower intake manifold but leak was not external since no fluids were on ground.supposed parts were replaced along w/gaskets.advised dealer coolant had to be going "somewhere" if not external; so requested for an oil change to be done since bad coolant may have gotten into oil. Dealer refused but service mgr approved.veh was ret'd to me on fri.upon leaving dealer engine had a chirping noise not there previous.spoke with salesman and he confirmed there was a noise & to bring veh back in next day for service to look at.on way home, low coolant light came on again;problem not fixed.upon taking vehicle to dealer following day they claimed their was coolant or some form of liquid on belt and would clean off.service department stated the low coolant light did not come on.assured us vehcile safe to drive.the rest of weekend low coolant light kept coming on at sporadic intervals.contacted dealer monday morning;was advised to bring in on wednesday for further investigation.dropped vehicle off & dealership had vehicle for additional day & advised the sensor was bad and was replaced.dealership states chirping noise was gone as they took apart belts and fully cleaned again.engine at time of drop offwas running rough.dealer states after computer and diagnostic testing engine is fine.recv'd vehicle back w/ sensor replaced;chirping noise somewhat dissipated-however not fully & was advised vehicle is safe to drive.vehilce appears to be okay but still notice not running as crisp as before.dealer affirms since vehicle under warranty to see how things go & advise if any further problem.another pontiac dealer w/in 15 miles had 3 montana's in service depart. For same related issues.one of those vehicles sustained $5,100 on a 99 modelmanufacture defect w/engines &/or parts?mll
Since 10/25/00 when the first time this van proceeded to overheat and the theromstat was changed in ohio on vacation.brought it back to the dealer in mo and was told they had to tighten a clamp and check the theromstat and they said problem solved.its been in the shop for various other problems but always smelling antifreeze and then the air conditoner wasnt cooling the way it should and the radio was replaced due to the fact the lcd screen went out.on 9-13 - 01 was back in the dealer ...different dealer than it was purchased from ...for various items and one to check on the air conditioner for we were going on a trip...was told everything was fine.went on trip and on the way home ..the van started to overheat again...stopped pulled over and let the van rest and shut off ac and proceeded to hotel and then drove home the next day and in the dealership it went only for them to tell me it was a defective raditor cap and debri in between the raditor and condersor.
Dexcool antifreeze leaking from engine.took vehicle to my mechanic and was told it had a faulting intake gasket.replaced all gaskets at a cost of almost $800.was told gm redesigned gasket but did not place a recall on the part.old parts are not available.
Manifold intake gasket failure at 125,000 miles replaced at cost of $1100, mechanic told me this was common problem for vehicle, because original gasket was plastic and failed often. Would like at least partial refund for repair.
Intake manifold needed to be replaced at 84,000 miles.very costly repair $1,500.00.
Blown head gasket at 107k miles in a 2000 pontiac montana.this is an expensive repair caused by faulty design or the use of dex cool.this is one of many failures on the vehicle.
Pontiac montana 2000: my car only has 49,000 miles yet has a major problem.i just got a repair estimate for my intake manifold gasket which is leaking dexcool out and into my engine.repair, which after researching on the internet, appears common yet has not been recalled by gm.
The intake manifold cracked while driving, which caused coolant to leak onto the engine.
Consumer complained aboutengine problems. A variety of gaskets were replaced; however, engine problems still exist.
Heavy valve lifter noise - indicating possible early engine failure
I own a 2000 pontiac montana that needs an intake gasket replaced.the company specifically advises that no other coolant is to be used in this van but dexcool.i never used a different product than dexcool.now dexcool has destroyed that gasket.my car is leaking fluids and barely heats. Cost for repair is outlandishly expensive.the recommendations by gm were followed and they were wrong! this is a manufacturing issue, not a consumer one.the onus should be on gm to recall and repair the intake gasket immediately! they have gotten away with this problem for years and every montana has this issue.please help. Thank you.
Lower intake gasket failed. Mdealership repaired at my costshortly after, the cam shaft broke. I will not pay to fix.
Newmarch 2000.van always receives regular maintenance.the following is a history of repairs:4/00 windshield wipers would not return to closed position - dealer fixed.12/03 (37,179 mi) tps sensor breaking down causing idle to surge - dealer replaced throttle position sensor, completed reprogram ($255.14)12/03 (37,182 mi) air bag light coming on - dealer replaced right front seat belt buckle under warranty (labor $134.51).12/27/03 (37,555 mi) was in collision (other vehicle pulled out in front of me as i was coming down small overpass, he was cited).my van sustained $4,500 in front end damages, his car was totaled. My air bags did not deploy.no one injured. 5/04 (40,983 mi) rear hatch would not stay up - dealer replaced both hatch props ($258.73)7/04 (43,437 mi) van was "shifting" hard, would not pick up speed correctly.dealer replaced pressure control solenoid, flushed transmission and replaced front brake pads and machined rotors ($986.48).12/04 (48,284 mi)van would not start on several occasions. Known independent repair shop replaced battery, checked oil leak. ($114.90).4/05 (51,646 mi) low coolant light /check engine light coming on. Same independentrepair shop replaced intake gaskets, thermostat, spark plugs and filter, and oil pump shaft 0-ring.corrected air bag light ($791.03)6/05 purchased new tires and were told needed all new tie rods.we went on vacation july 9, 2005 (ohio to virginia and back).concerned that the van shook terribly when applying the brakes on long downgrades through wv and va. We were towing nothing.the very next day, after returning home, thevan would not start consistently.7/05 (56,533 mi) told that the computer crashed.same independent repair shop replaced ecm, crank sensor, ign module and machined front rotors which if you remember were just done in july of 2004 ($982.02).after researching the track record ofpontiac montana, have found that many consumers having the same problems.
I own a 2000 pontiac montana,in the past 2 years i have had to replace the waterpumpx2 and intake manifold gasket x2.the gasket lasted 18 months and the waterpump 3 months.i feel that putting 1400.00 dollars into a vehicle within 18 months for the same parts is outrageous. The serviceman however stated the warranty was 1 year.something seems very wrong with this picture.
Lower intake manafold leaking coolant into engin oil.
Noticed that coolant had to be added even though no aparent leak or overheating on my 2000 pontiac montana. I was told by the dealer it was an intake manifold gasket leak and would cost $970 to fix. I found that this is a common problem on this model engine either due to the dex cool coolant or the gasket. If this sin't fixed, it could lead to being stranded or stuck in a dangerous loacation.
Consumer was traveling25mphvehicle just stopped. Last friday while travelingthere was a loud cracking noise, and vehicle just shut off.electrical system was fine, but the engine wasn't operable.
Vehicle will not start. Second occurrence. Fearful of vehicle safety and reliability. Informed on previous failure that problem was fuel pump. Fell vehicle has too few miles to be having these types of problems.
Whilevehicle was in park in garage withoutkeys inignition, vehicle caught on fire.police report stated that firebegan inengine compartment.fire spread from vehicle to the garage and also melted the neighbors vinyl siding.
Vehicle stalls at any speed, has stalled 10 times so far. Consumer noticed it never stalls in sunny weather, always when it rains or after it has rained. Vehicle taken to dealer 4 times, cannot find acause for problem.
Vehicle stalls while driving, and will intermittently start.also, sliding doors lock up. Dealer inspectedvehicle & moved the spark plug over thinking it was causing the disruption.
On sept 26, 2006, i have my pontiac montana my 2000 vehicle service in a dealer for issue of engine vibration occasionally.the repairing fee is about $1000 to replace spark plug and coils.at 5:36 pm of during my driving back home in i-696, my vehicle engine suddenly stop running at about 75 mile/hour which made me almost become involved in a deadly accident.at this time, i called the dealer to inform this issue and dealer made a note. When the engine stopped running, the dic was lighting up without any information. I came back to the dealer and they were not able to find anything wrong.i was asked tousa a recording data tool, however, the next a month, the vehicle was running ok without incident.therefore, i stopped recording data for the vehicle. In january of 2007, the same problem began to happen again.3 times when i driving the vehicle at 60 to 75 mile/hour, the vehicle engine stop running suddenly if the brake was pushed.then i went back to dealer again for trouble shooting on 1/4/07.they still can not find anything wrong and then schedule to a full check on 1/9/07.however on 2:30 pm of 1/8/07, the vehicle can not be running and has to tow to dealer again. In the meantime, i called gmand dealer to report this incident.i had twice in a very dangerous situation and put my family and myself life in a very harmful situation. Gm give me a case number 71-476-171970.the dealer informed me that they can get vehicle started but can not resolve the issue of engine suddenly stopping with brake pressed.i need to pay $711 for the vehicle running and then go from there.the dealerand gm had a talk, then gm representative told me she will pursue to reimburse me the repairing fee.then after 4 days gm told me again they will not to reimburse me the money now since i am scared for the engine stop issue,i can not drive vehicle over 65 mile/hour.
Intake manifold gasket leaked coolant into the engine crankcase. This caused hydraulic lifter damage - lifters had to be replaced and gasket replaced.additional engine damage is unknown at this time.
A malfunction is present in the exhaust system that causes exhaust fumes to escape intopassenger's compartment that causespassengers to become ill. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.
Low coolant light intermittently illuminates.dealer diagnosed problem as a leak in the lower intake manifold.dealer has attempted to repair several times, but problem still occurring.ph
Upper and lower manifold gasket coolant leaks.(dealer claims that they are doing 10 a week on this vehicle).
Dealer replacedlower intake manifold and related sealer. Also, replaced the water pump, and flushed the cooling system. Coolant went into the engine.
I have a 2000 pontiac montana with a 3.4 liter engine.i had the intake manifold gasket replaced in january of 2003 because the coolant was leaking out.it cost about $600 to do this.i recently changed the oil on february 29, 2004 and noticed coolant in the oil again.i am now working with the mechanic again to fix the problem.apparently there is a quality control problem at gm regarding their manifold gaskets.i know other people with the same problem.a friend of mine owns a 2003 grand am with a 3.4 liter and they had to have their intake manifold gasket replaced twice.my brothers rich and steve also owned gm trucks that needed the intake gaskets replaced.
Intake manifold gasket leaking coolant. Replacement of intake manifold gasket, cooling system flush, oil and filter change.
Consumer complained aboutintake manifold gasket whichwas causing a coolant leak into the engine. Intake manifold gasket was replaced by dealer.the consumer feels this part should not have failed at 48,000 miles.
The intake manifold gasket had to be replaced on my 2000 pontiac montana at 109,000 miles.my daughter has a 2001 pontiac montana with about 47,000 miles and she needs to replace the intake manifold gasket also.sounds like the gasket may have been substandard.
While driving the check engine light came on.consumer pulled off the road , called the mechanic, who told them to check the water level, which was fine , the antifreeze level was empty.consumer refilled the antifreeze and drove to the dealership, who indicated that the intake manifold gasket had gone out, and needed to be replaced.this was a common problem with this vehicle.
Consumer noticed that vehicle had a low coolant level.took the vehicle to the dealer, who determined that the intake manifold was cracked, and had tobe replaced.
There have been many problems, most notable recently when the driver's side sliding door feel off at 45000 miles.gm won't pay, it's not "under warranty".this door has had continual problems with hitting the front door upon closing.repair was supposed to have been made but obviously ineffectual due to evidence of chipped paint at the site where dors collide.could this have precipitated the door falling off?supposedly their was an adjustment made, could this adjustment been made incorrectly to damage the door?i feel it is unacceptable that this door has fallen off my car at 45000 miles.

I am having problems with my rear brake light bulbs melting in the sockets. I replace them and they work for a short period until they melt resulting in the bulb burning out and melting again.
I own a 2000 pontiac montana and i am having problems with my brake light bulbs melting in the sockets. I replace them and they work for a short period until they melt resulting in the bulb burning out.i feel that this problem needs to be looked into before it results in a fire or an accident. Any help with this problem will be appreciated.
The contact owns a 2000 pontiac montana. The contact stated that the tail lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated the circuit board wiring would have to be replaced. After the repair, the failure recurred twice. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Rear brake-lightsub assembly holds brake light bulbs. Evidently when used in stop and go traffic in metropolitan areas such as new york metro and los angeles, bulb heating melts the bulb holding sub- assembly directly releasing the bulb contacts and causingbrake light failure. Bulbs continue to test ok!!! isual inspection reveals melted plastic. Wrong plastic formula.
While drivingand without warningheadlights will dim.then, return to normal status. Dealer has been notified; however seemed not to be able to duplicate the problem.
When headlights are turned on at night, lights insidedashboard are so bright thatthey cause distraction to consumer while driving.consumer attempts to dim the lights, butlights inside the dashboard would be very dim, and difficult forconsumer to see dashboard information. Dealer and manufacturer have not recognized the lighting as a defect, and will not provide any remedy.
I bought a 200 pontiac montana last year. As part of the purchase the dealer replaced the right front "daytime running light" assembly due to water being in the light. I now have water in the same light assembly as well as the left front head light which has blown due to the water in the light assembly. After seeing this same problem in other general motors vehicles using the same light assemblies i spoke with two different service managers at different gm dealers. Both suggested drilling holes in the bottom of the light assemblies so the water can drain out. This seems to be a temporary fix to a problem that needs to be addressed. I also emailed pontiac about this problem and i was not able to resolve the issue.
*scc
We were in a collision (not at fault) in which we hit head on at approximately 50 mph.none of the airbags inflated.the vehicle had major front end damage and we are waiting if it is repairable or will be totaled.since owning the vehicle, we have had the airbags checked on three separate occasions.we were very fortunate to not have major injuries, but do feel the injuries we did receive would have not happened if the airbags had worked properly.many of the emergency personnel at the scene of the accident were shocked that in such a collision the airbags did not inflate.we feel there must be some type of defect with the air bags.dt
Fuel gauge does not work properly, power window on driver side will not properly roll up.fuel gauge will show full tank when it is almost empty.
Power sliding door needs a tremendous amount of pressure to reverse closing and could cause serious harm.fuel level indicator moves up and down randomly once the tank gets below 1/3.pressure control solenoid failing after 65000 miles causing very hard up-shifting after transmission warms up.
Husband and children in vehicle when major gas leak was detected on hot exhaust system.garage that reattached fuel return line and installed retaining wire ties indicate that this is an uncommon life-threatening event.reported to dealer--dealer to check vehicle this week and to notify manufacturer.
Consumer states the fuel line is leaking fluid. Cause unknown dealer notified.it was found that the fuel line was leaking from the fuel filter assembly.it was removed and reinstalled.*jg

Vehicles stalled at any speed without warning. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, and dealer saidthere was a problem with the fuel pump.the fuel pump was replaced twice.
1.) there was no prior indication that a failure would happen.2.) fuel pump failed.consequences: engine stalled at highway speeds and would not start or run which left us stranded by the roadside - this was the first incident which occurred at 36,000 miles and 3 years after the purchase of the vehicle on 12-24-2002.the second incident occurred at 56,500 miles and 5.5 years after the purchase of the vehicle ( on 7-26-2005, on 8-8-2005, on 8-9-2005, on 8-11-2005) and again the fuel pump failed and the vehicle would not start nor run.3.) for the first incident the vehicle was towed to a local service station where the fuel pump was replaced ( i may still have the old pump ).for the second incident the vehicle was towed repeatedly (3 times) to a dealer facility because the fuel pump would only work intermittently.the service technician could not duplicate the no start condition the first time.the second time it would not start for the mechanic so he diagnosed it and declared that the fuel pump relay switch was defective and replaced it.after receiving the vehicle and driving it the car was parked and it would not start which resulted in my wife and kids having to walk home.i went to the vehicle and it started for me so i drove it back to the repair shop and the mechanic could not duplicate the no start condition.we received the car back and the next day it would not start and was towed back to the repair facility and this time would not start for the mechanic who then diagnosed that the fuel pump was bad and replaced it.
While driving at any speed, the vehicle jerked and vibrated uncontrollably.thevehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and themechanic determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. However, the problem recurrerd.*er
No summary listed for above vehicle.
While driving on highway, vehicle ran over a rock, and rock came up and hit the fuel tank, causing the tank to leak, there are puddles of fuel in consumer's garage. Contacted dealer and the dealer was going tp pick up the vehicle. Consumer states the rock hit the filler neck going into the tank which is unprotected just 13 inches from the left rear tire, the tank leaked in the seam where the neck is pressed into the plastic tank.
Consumer complained aboutgas gauge problem.sometimes gas gauge registered empty when gas tankwas full, and full when it was empty. Took vehicle to the dealer, and was told that the cost to repair the problem was over $500.00.
Dt: contact states the gas gaugeis reading full at all times.it doesn't show that gasoline tank is empty until the vehicle runs out of gas.the vehicle has not been to a service dealer.this has happened since the vehicle hit 50,000 miles.the vehicle now has 58,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac montana.the contact received a recall notice regarding the door handles on her vehicle.she was experiencing issues with the locks on the rear driver's side doors because they could not be opened from inside the passenger compartment.nhtsa campaign id number 04v597000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors) was similar to the failures the contact was experiencing; however, the manufacturer stated that they would not repair the defect under this recall because the failure was not involved with the previous recall that was issued.the current mileage is 116000.updated 02-18-09 the sliding door didnot open from the inside. The contact owns a 2000 pontiac montana.the contact stated that the power sliding door does not lock.the dealer stated that no recalls were available.the failure has been ongoing for five days.the vehicle was taken to a body shop, but the mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure.the mechanic removed the door from the vehicle.when it was placed back on, the failure stopped for only a few days.the failure mileage was 113,546 and current mileage was 113,600. Updated 09/01/09. *ljthe power doors would not lock. Updated 09/04/09.
*scc
Owner's child was climbing inside of vehicle through the sliding door. When the child pushed the button to close the sliding door, child's fingers got caught inthe door sensor. Sliding door did not stop from closing, causing the child's left ring finger to be cut off.
While drivingsliding door opens which is caused by a failure in the latch locking mechanism. Dealership replaced the sliding door latch. Problem still exists.
Consumer complaint is againstdesign of the power sliding door.a child would not be capable of stoppingdoor from closing becausechild could not use enough pressure to stopdoor.*consumer did receive notification for a recall, stating that door can automatically open while in operation. Consumer is takingvehicle in for repairs. However ,this is a separate issue.the sliding door closes very forcefully and the consumer was concerned ablout the potential danger of the door.
Vehicle stalls while driving, and will intermittently start.also, sliding doors lock up. Dealer inspectedvehicle & moved the spark plug over thinking it was causing the disruption.
Power sliding door will not latch - openswhile vehicle is in motion. Started off about a year ago to be occasional in hot weather - now cannot get the sliding door to latch at all.
When rear door opens you can't stop it, it broke my wrist whenmy braclet caught on handle.
All door latches will lock without prior warning.as a consumer he his concerned. Dealership has been notified.

Shifting out of park while engine not running without the brake being on/stepped on, which resulted in the van rolling in reverse, thankfully it was in the driveway when this happen, was able to put it back into park (thank god).
The transmission sun gear went out. The transmission had to be rebuilt.

Problems with transmission and molding strips on sliding doors.*mra vehicle with only 49360 miles the solenoidwent out on the transmission costing $914.04 in repairs.on each sliding door, there was a long black rubber molding strip on the bottom of the door frame that kept falling down in to the door track.the consumer hoped that the dealership can resolve problemswith defective vehicles, because it seemed to be a major safety concern and could result in a tragedy.
The transmission and the vehicle lost complete power. The dealer stated the second clutch drum was cracked which caused the problem in the transmission.
Transmission shifts hard from gear to gear.
Power sliding door needs a tremendous amount of pressure to reverse closing and could cause serious harm.fuel level indicator moves up and down randomly once the tank gets below 1/3.pressure control solenoid failing after 65000 miles causing very hard up-shifting after transmission warms up.
Vehicle has had numerous of transmission problems. Vehicle has been taken to dealer on six different occasions.dealer had replaced cables and reinstalled transmission, butproblem still occurred intermittently.dealer has recognized the defect, but has not found an actual remedy.with defect consumerdid not have full control ofvehicle, which couldresult into an automobile accident.
We have repeatedly reported to both the dealer and the mfr. That when our transmission is in drive, our vehicle rolls backward even if only on a slight incline.it also rolls forward when in reverse.when the incline is steep, you are fighting to keep going in the direction the transmission is in gear.it is as if we have a manual transmission with a clutch.it is dangerous if someone is in front of us when we are trying to back up or vice versa.i have never had a vehicle like this.i have test driven other manufacturer'svans and it never happens.i keep being told that this is normal and it is how the vehicle is engineered to conserve fuel.it is a hazard that i can't seem to get fixed.

I stopped at the end of my driveway and got out to get the mail and newspaper.my 2 year old toddler got out of her carseat and jumped into the driver's seat and put the car into drive.the doors automatically locked and the car started rolling across the street.i could only run alongside in horror as the car drove into a ditch across the street.fortunately, there was no traffic comng at the time and no one was seriously hurt.that is whe i learned that our minivan could have the gear shifted on our automatic without stepping on the brake.very dangerous situation for a minivan that carries children all the time.

We purchased the pontiac montana as a family vehicle.we have a 2 year old daughter and another baby due in may.we discovered, after we purchased the van, that the rear bucket seats have a problem with the seat belt system that does not safely restrain a child seat.we consulted the pa state police (trooper daniel white) about the problem.he said that the seat belt shaft is too far forward to safely harness the seat in place.he said that he does not know of child seat that would safely work in this van.he said that our daughter could die in an accident with the way the child seat fits in the van.we contacted the dealership and the manufacturer and they said we could purchase new seats with built in child restraints.we do not wish to do this because our new baby still will not be able to ride in those child restraints until he/she is at least a year old.plus, we do not agree that we sould pay for new seats since it was clear that it was our intention that this would be a family vehicle and we will have 2 small children.the manufacturer stated that they could order us a seat belt extension but, trooper white does not think that will solve our problem.that said, our real purpose for writing this to you is that we would like to know if there is some way to let other owners of the 2000 pontiac montana know about this problem.we drove around for 2 weeks before we realized there was a major problem.we feel it is quite possible that there are parents out there with this van, with child safety seats in them, and they do not realize they are not safely installed.we do not want any children to beinjured or worse because of this problem.we feel that the pontiac people should realize that people buy vans as family vehicles and most often install child restraints in them.we think that there has to be a way to restructure the rear seat belt system so that child safty seats can be used.it is our sincere hope that you can get this problem solved.*

City police let her go. And for mine they had several reports of white truck hit and runs no investigations. Done in city. Lack of funds.

The middlerow center seat belt locking mechanisms broke while consumer was tightening css, without excessive force being used.

Middle bucket seats recline all the way back - this would allow a passenger to slide under the seat belt. Dealer would not fix the problem.
Front attachments of the rear seats had all of a sudden become loose w/o warning. Vehicle was in motion, andrear seats went all the way back.one passenger was occupying the seats at that moment, but was able to avoid injury.the effect of this could cause serious injuries toconsumer's childern that sit in safety seats or to any other passenger.
My abs system activates without warning while at slow speeds and while braking.there are no adverse weather conditions to justify the activation and no service engine or abs lights illuminate when this happens.when the abs system activates, the braking distance increases and i've had to adjust my driving so i do not hit another vehicle or brake into an intersection.since this began happening regularly, i have chosen not to drive my vehicle unless absolutely necessary and never with my children inside.i took my vehicle to the dealership for a repair estimate and they found corrosion on the wheel speed sensor and jumper harness.i refused the repairs at that time due to the high cost to repair.in addition, at times the "service traction system" message will illuminate along with the abs and trac off lights.the illumination of these lights does not correspond to the abs braking problem, so it may not be directly related.
The antilock brake system engaged itself when the vehicle was undergoing a regular, non-emergency stop.this made the stopping distance increase severely and could have caused an accident by causing me to run into another object.evidently, the electronic control module for the antilock brake system is defective.i have temporarily disconnected this control to prevent the malfunction from occuring again.
The front left brake caliper over heats interfering with posse traction and abs brakes.ph
When i started the car this morning and stepped on the brake pedal, it went all the way to the floor. Upon inspection, there was a puddle of brake fluid on the driveway under the passenger door on the driver's side. I inspected further with a flashlight and mirror, and could see that the fluid was dripping from a bundle of brake lines attached to the chassis, of which one was severely corroded..
Severe corrosion of brake lines.there is a short section of the rear brake lines just forward of the rear control arm that rusts out.
Our montana pontiac van had problems from the start.we purchased it as a used vehicle from a gm dealer and everything seemed fine.however within three weeks of having the vehicle we started experiencing problems.we had the started replaced three times, we have had to replace the front struts, replace the brakes twice, we have a noise in the front right side-no one can explain and we have it worked on five times now, then yesterday the side passenger slide door opened in a turn in heavy traffic - we do not have automatic sliding doors.the control panel did not show that the door was ajar.however because we require everyone to wear seatbelts the child did not fall out but it could have had a terrible results had we not make it a rule in our vehicle.i love the room the van provides however, these problems that keep popping up are getting tiresome.
I just wanted to know if it is normal for these to go as soon as the warranty is over. The paint, i argued with the dealer and they finally agreed to pay for it. The abs brakes went just after the warranty, they won't help me there. The passenger sliding door will not lock automatically. No price for repair yet.

On june 17, 2003 while driving near my home my brakes failed, totally, i had to apply the emergency brake to avoid both my husband and i from going into the middle of a busy intersection. No warning lights came on nothing.i had just a few incidents of the brake pedal seeming like it was going down maybe a couple of times the day before. Brakes never made any noises to indicate there was a problem starting. Master cylinder had to be replaced
While driving north on us-57 in illinois, we experienced a failure of our braking system, apparently from a severed brake line. While my wife was driving, we exited the highway at exit #283, gilman, illinois. As we went up the ramp, my wife began braking, and the pedal went all the way to the floor, while barely slowing the vehicle. The brake warning light was not on before this point, but came on after several pumps of the pedal. She pumped the pedal a few times, and got some braking, and stopped at the stop sign at the end of the ramp. At this point we determined that we had enough braking ability to continue to the gas station which was about 50 yards from us. In the parking lot of the gas station i checked the brake master cylinder and found the fluid reservoir empty. I then checked under the vehicle for leaks, at which time i discovered the brake line, coming from the left side to the right, at the point at which it passes in front of and over the top of the square, tubular steel axle housing,to be severed. In this short span of the brake line, which has a spiral steel wire protector at this point, some object,(apparently),impacted the line and smashed it against the axle housing with enough force to not only flatten it, but also sever it, in the middle of the flattened area. I feel that some type of guard should be installed in front of the brake line at the point where it crosses in front of the steel axle housing.
At approximately 25,000 miles on my leased 2000pontiac montana the front brakes began to exhibit what seemed to be a waparage condition.minimal use, and no high speed stops indicated a problem to me beyond normal.brake inspection (on saturday - not at dealer location) indicated extreme pitting and warping of front rotors - with subsequent destruction of the brake pads.replacement was accomplished ($294.30).dealer on first business day following repair denied responsibility for this defect under warranty rules - and service manager stated that his shop could have turned and re-conditioned the rotors so they would not pay for defects.subsequent discussions and research on this problem indicated that g.m. Knows well of this problem, and that they are not disclosing it to the public.further, the rotors were inspected by two independent shops with excellent reputations, and found to be un-repairable by their standards as well as the discard standard given to me by refusing dealer.issue:is it illegal for dealer shops to make such judgements, and send people out on the roads with dangerious brakes?my pressure has gotten re-imbursement for my costs on this issue.the purpose of this notice is to notify g.m. And/or the dealer of their mis-givings.thank you,[xxx].
The contact owns a 2000 pontiac montana. The contact stated that when the vehicle was pulled into the driveway, there was a loud noise under the vehicle. In addition, the steering wheel became loose and the rear axle support bracket detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Dt*: the contact stated while backing the vehicle up in a driveway, the steering wheel became difficult to turn.there was a very loud clunking noise and the steering wheel would turn but the tires would not.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was determined the bolt on the driver's side that holds the steering rod to the steering sector under the vehicle fell off.there were no problems with the vehicle prior to the incident.the vehicle is awaiting repairs.
My 2000 pontiac montana started to shake and vibrate in the front end between 50-65 mph. With 66k miles and driven mainly interstate, something was happening with the front suspension.found both outer tie rod ends worn out with extreme play. Only the tie rods were worn nothing else in the front suspension.pontiac and my dealer seem to think that tie rod wear at 66k is normal wear!its hard to believe when i still have the original brakes.i am just glad that the tie rods did not separate since this would have been disastrous.other gm mini van owners should be aware of this obvious premature tie rod wear.

Welding at the base of the driver's seat separated in my 2000 pontiac montana van. The vehicle had no accident, event leading to the failure is unknown. Base of the driver's seat is moving with the seat, there is a 1/2 inch gap on the bottom of the car at the welding. Took the vehicle to pontiac dealership where it has been inspected. While they could not give an explanation what could have caused the failure, pontiac customer service thinks it is normal to have such a defect in a 5 year-old vehicle due to fatigue of metal...
*scc
Recall 01v067000 repairs were done. Soon after sliding door would open up on its own. Vehicle taken to dealer 4 times, could not remedy. Consumer currently had more problems with sliding door than prior to recall being preformed.consumer states sliding door continues to open while in motion, vehicle is currently at dealer for consideration in a vehicle buy back.
Once the automatic sliding door is activated it can only be stopped by a button, no amount of pressure will stop the door from closing.the manual states that the amount of pressure will have to increase as it gets closer to the closing point, but we (service guy) and myself could not stop after an inch of movement.have tried this on other montana's with the same result.since no force can stop this door, people or things could get caught.looking for it to operate like an elevator door esentially.when enough force is applied the door stops or reverses.there is an override in the car to disable the automatic door, but then it is so dificult to open manually that it is not a desireable situation.
The contact owns a 2000 pontiac montana.as the passenger side sliding door was closing, a child reached into the vehicle to press the button to open the sliding door.however, the sliding door continued to close and smashed the child's right hand.the child's hand sustained cuts and bruises.the contact had to restart the vehicle and press the button to release the door.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.the current and failure mileages were 98,751.

Updated 02/18/09.
The contact owns a 2000 pontiac montana.the contact stated that her daughter's leg became trapped on the rear sliding passenger door.the door is supposed to retract when an object is blocking the sensor.the contact also stated that the driver side door locks on its own.the dealer was notified, but would not provide a free diagnosis.the contact feels that the manufacturer should pay for the repair costs because she is making payments on the vehicle.the current mileage was 150,000 and failure mileage was 120,000.
Electronic door inside ofvehicle opened and closed intermittently.dealership wasaware of problem.
While putting child inbackseatsliding passenger door closed onconsumer, and did not open as it should. Instead it pinned her between door and frame of vehicle. On 20 oct0ber 2001 while driving 70 mph same sliding door opened. Both recalls onsliding door had been done prior to this. Consumer took vehicle back to dealer 3 times after recall repairs were done, unable to remedy problem.
Power sliding door needs a tremendous amount of pressure to reverse closing and could cause serious harm.fuel level indicator moves up and down randomly once the tank gets below 1/3.pressure control solenoid failing after 65000 miles causing very hard up-shifting after transmission warms up.
My three year old daughter was starting to enter our minivan as the power sliding door was closing.she reached in to stop the door and reverse it (by pressing the interior button)and the door closedon her hand and shut.an adult had to come and open the door before her hand could be freed.the door is supposed to reverse when resistance is encountered.i have tried to stop the door and the amount of resistance it takes to stop this door would bruise my arm and definately crush her hand or any other body part including her head.luckily only one side of her hand was stuck and severely bruised and now swolen and bruised across her knuckles and down her hand.the power of this door exceeds any power brought about by a garage door and they seem to have higher safetly standards than aminivan which is geared toward familes with children.i brought this to pontiac's attention and received no explanation or answers.i think there should be a beam, as in garage doors, or an adjustment to the resistance needed to reverse the door before more serious accidents occur.
The power sliding door closed unexpectedly bruising the passenger. The door was unable to open immediately when the owner pressed the button. The manufacturer was contacted and is aware of the problem.the consumer stated that he pushed the button to close the door and it closed on his wifes leg.the consumer requests that the doors include a safety device that stops when contact is made.*tc

I read of your investigation in automotive news.my 12 yr old daughter's wrist was broken last summer while attempting to open the door of our 2000 montana.she grabbed the handle from inside and as the door moved open it bent her wrist backward.it didn't stop, despite the resistance.it was broken in the growth plate and did not require a cast but was splinted for 2 weeks. Consumer states that the sliding door on driver side keeps coming open, will not latch. Dealer contacted , can not identify problem.
The child inadverntly hit the button to close the door and was close to the door when it closed and caught her upper arm
The left front pretensioner was open and had to be replaced. The air bag light stayed on, which was caused by the faulty seat belt tensioner. . also the power sliding door did not return when it was opened
Automatic sliding door has sensor that failed to respond if occupant was not clear of closing.this allowed door to continuously close even with pressure applied by owner. Please describe details.

Driver side rear strut/shock mount, part of the inner wheelhouse assy., rusted at a weld and cracked in both directions, not sure when it happened but it has been like that for a long time. The crack is rusted all the way down the crack in both directions until the ripped part starts where the part finally failed. Then it ripped out driving down the road. Van has never been wrecked.took it to the gm dealership they said it was a defective part, body shop that fixed it said the same thing. After three months and many phone calls to the dealer (s) we have finally got it to the point where they are calling it a product liability. Took a gm rep. To take the time to come and see it. Originally they did not bother since they were originally calling it a warranty issue and were blowing us off. The general manager at the dealership has been very helpful however.after he looked at it he reopened the case, but they dont seam to be very helpful at the customer service number that is supposed to be organizing this whole thing. And no one there returns phone calls. I have taken a lot of high quality digital pictures, and still have the part.
My 2000 pontiac montana started to shake and vibrate in the front end between 50-65 mph. With 66k miles and driven mainly interstate, something was happening with the front suspension. Found both outer tie rod ends worn out with extreme play. Only the tie rods were worn, nothing else in the front suspension. Pontiac and my dealer seem to think that tie rod wear at 66k is normal wear! its hard to believe when i still have the original brakes. I am just glad that the tie rods did not separate since this would have been disasterous. Other gm mini van owners should be aware of the obvious premature tie rod wear. Its time to start shopping for my third set of tires. At 68k i am also using coolant, so i better take a number and have the intake manifold gasket replaced. Thanks gm, i wish your quality and customer no service mirrored honda or toyota!

Vehicle was moving 5mph when there was a loud banging noise. Vehicle violently shook, and the rear passenger's side collapsed. Dealer was notified, and diagnosed problem asrear axle bracket snapping due to stress.*jg

Consumer states vehicle began to make a weird and bumpy noise while driving, the noise is more prevalent during acceleration and deceleration, consumer took vehicle into dealership and was informed there was no problem with the alignment, except the tires have different wear patterens, dealership advised consumer that uneven wear is causing the noise and the general tire model #xp2000gt will cause noise and wear unevenly, consumer took vehicle into dealership a second time and wheel alignment was checked and the tires were rotated and everything was fine, consumer states as she started to drive the noise level became very high compared to the noise level before, dealership was informed and she was advised that there will be noise and just try to get accustomed to it.
My son had his ear hurt when the automatic van door tried to close on it.i did call the manufacture and complained.
Montana van was taken in for oil change and asked to top up coolant since we were getting the low coolant level light.oil was changed and coolant topped up....no mention of a leak.a week later, the low coolant level light was on again so we took it in.we were told that the repair was approx. $1000, but that it would be covered under warranty.we would, however, have to pay approx. $200 for an engine wash and flush - gm said they don't pay for this.they have kept the van and will provide a rental replacement.haven't received an estimate on how long it will take to repair the van.
I just wanted to know if it is normal for these to go as soon as the warranty is over. The paint, i argued with the dealer and they finally agreed to pay for it. The abs brakes went just after the warranty, they won't help me there. The passenger sliding door will not lock automatically. No price for repair yet.

My 2000 pontiac montana (ext) has been accelerating on its own.i have tried to determine the cause and effect, but nothing stays constant.it may happen when the car is cold or hot, early morning or late afternoon, etc.i have taken it into a dealership and they cannot reproduce the issue.in addition, they have told me the computer did not register any codes.when the issue happens the idle.i'll put the car into park and watch the rpm move to 3500 and stay there until i turn the car off.once i turn the car off and turn it back on then the issue stops.i have others verify the issue has happened with them or they saw the issue occur (so i'm not crazy).a mechanic at firestone (was able to reproduce the issue) and he thought the issue was related to the transmission.i'm not sure how he came to that conclusion, but they wanted to charge me $3,000 for a new transmission.at this point i think i will get a new car.very disappointing.
Engine went wide open, had to turn key off to kill motor. Lucky we were on a back road with no traffic,we also have teenage drivers, they may have paniced and it could have turned out really bad!!

Windshield cracked and created a dangerous driving condition. It was caused by the rusted roof corners pushing both top corners of windshield glass forward. Water was trapped between windshield glass and roof metal due to the defect design.
It has happened several times in the past, but when it rains the wipers do not work or if they do, the stop and start on their own. Now they just won't work if it even sprinkles.
When temp is 30 or below the windshield starts to build ice about 4 inches around the whole glass area, wipers start to freeze up and ball of ice around the blades

Because of this i do not drive this vehicle much.the back power windows are messed up. If you open them there is no guarantee they will close.
