Dashboard started flashing "check alternator". Shortly after, dashboard started flashing "abs brake system off trak". After turning off car, it would not restart. Car has been in the shop for over a week, and another 10 days is estimated because of backordered alternator. Alternator apparently went bad after only 2 years.
The contact owns a 2006 pontiac gto. The contact stated that the key became stuck in the ignition and was unable to be removed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The dealer fractured the key in the ignition as a result the vehicle had to be drilled to remove the key. The contact was waiting for weeks for the vehicle to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Vehicle shuts off and will not restart do to anti theft deterrent system malfunction. Occurs rarely at first and increases in frequency - leaving motorist potentially strandedso far the ecm has been replaced, the chip in the key fob has been replaced, and the bcm is being replaced - still unsure if fixed.
Remote door lock failed to unlock or lock door and open trunk. I have to place the key in the door lock and then pull it out in order for it to work. It fails to open maybe 1 out of 30 attempts.
Vehicle ignition lock seizes, leaving the car completely inoperable.

2006 gto and had engine mount problem. Only had the car for two years and brought it in to be check out because it was leaking oil. Come to find out with only 17,000 miles the engine mounts were cracked and blown out leaking oil everywhere. Gm technician said a lot of these cars have this problem. Luckily it was under warranty. But there is absolutely no reason why a new car has that serious of a problem.
The contact owns a 2006 pontiac gto. While driving 55 miles per hour the contact noticed the radiator was leaking. The contact stated that there was a leak underneath the vehicle when he shut the engine off. The contact spoke with the dealer regarding recalls for the vehicle. The contact spoke with the manufacturer who stated that he should take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 48000.
2006 pontiac gto engine failure on 05/15/2007. I had already come to a stop when the motor shut off. Went to take off again as traffic moved and saw engine light on. Car finally restarted but had to pull over about 1/4 mile again because of the motor shaking violently. The problem was diagnosed at the dealership as a bent valve due to the valve not being seated properly at the factory. The vehicle only had about 7700 miles on it and was bought new. New head put on car and all new valves installed. If motor would have cut off merging into fast traffic where i live there could have been an accident since there was no pre-warnings that there was a problem with the motor. No smells, no check engine lights, no noises, etc before failure happened. At this point the car has been taken back to the dealership for a miss in the motor and a shredded serpentine belt that occurred within 50 miles of picking the car back up at the dealership for the head/valve replacement.
Remote door lock failed to unlock or lock door and open trunk. I have to place the key in the door lock and then pull it out in order for it to work. It fails to open maybe 1 out of 30 attempts.
My 2006 pontiac cable shifter was inspected some time on november 2014! problem is the cable shifter on may 1 2016! the cable shifter was out of position and my car woudn't start! if the tabs were to fracture and separate, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to 'park' and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in 'park.' the vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior!i contacted the dealership who supposedly inspected that part or even fixed said that they are liable since it was already done innovember of 2014! i would to send a complaint regarding robert brogden buick gmc at 913-782-1500 they did not repair or replace this part!! if they did it was a defect part! they are refusing to fix the problem
The contact owns a 2006 pontiac gto. The contact stated that the clutch pedal became loose and the transmission failed to shift into gear. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.

Brakes system failure.
I took my 2006 gto into the dealer in jan. 2009 for some warranty repair work on the fan switch.while performing a safety inspection the dealer noticed the right front strut was rubbing on the tire and causing significant wear on the inner tread.i had noticed a clunking sound as i went over speed bumps or turned tight like you would in a parking lot for approximately 3 months prior to that.i asked if they were related and the service attendant said possibly, but that all the gtos made noise when cranking the wheel because of the wide tires.i asked if the strut was covered under the warranty and they said no, it was some type of front end damage that caused it.the car had a fender bender in nov. 2006, but it was re-aligned in dec. 2006.no mention was made at the time that the strut rubbed on the tire.i didn't have the money to have it repaired right away so i wasn't driving it until i april 2009 when circumstances made it my only vehicle.after a few days of driving, i noticed the car would sometimes suddenly shudder in the front suspension and pull very hard to the right.on may 8, 2009 after making a left hand turn from a stop, as i started to straighten the wheel the car jerked to the right onto the shoulder.i tried to steer it back onto the road and the car continued to slide into the ditch.a passerby pulled the car out of the ditch and i limped it back to a friends house where we jacked it up and inspected it.it seemed to drive fine and other than the unusually worn tire everything appeared fine.i'm now afraid to drive it and still don't have the money to get it repaired, so it is parked in my driveway.after doing some online research, it seems that i am not alone in this dilemma.is pontiac, gm or macpherson looking into this?
2006 gto only had the car for 4yrs. Couple days ago it started to leak fluid under the car. Took it in to get checked out and after only 31,500 miles on the car gm technician said that the power steering rack is leaking all the mounts are cracked. Power steering rack needs to be totally replaced!!! guy also decided to tell me this isn't the first time this kind of car has had a problem! he said the gto's and g8's have had power steering problems. I said why hasn't there been any recalls? he said gm could possibly have one in the feature. Now i'm stuck with a $1,500 bill the gm knows about. Gm technician also said your power steering could fail at anytime resulting in loss control of you vehicle and possible serious injury. I could of crashed on the highway because of faulty parts.
2006 pontiac gto engine failure at 15,000 miles.front suspension pulls to the left, with tremendous vibration from the steering wheel at highway speeds, vehicle will not hold an alignment. Braking is harsh with further front end vibrations, occasional squealing and drifting from left to right before coming to a complete stop. Can hear the collapsing noise of the compressed strut towers, along with some inner wheel strut rub. The presence of mechanical knocking and popping noise with the vehicle sitting still and just turning the steering wheel from right to left and left to right.rear suspension sagging on the passenger side, rolling over uneven road surfaces causes collapsing of right rear shocks and spring to rub the right rear tire. Normal acceleration from a stop with a full tank of fuel, the rear end bottoms out rubbing the right rear tire. Placing the vehicle in gear from a stop, causes the rear end to drop some 2 - 3 inches. Can hear the sound of a blown shock knocking and clanking on certain road surfaces, hard to duplicate for service manager at dealership.vehicle has been with the dealership for seven days straight, dealership refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem. Gm customer service regional manager has been extremely helpful in seeking out a resolution to fix the problem. No accidents as of yet?dealership stands by lead mechanic, stating that the vehicles suspension is within gm specification, and that the fault is with the fitment of aftermarket wheels and tires.i began complaining about the issue at about 18,000 mi, with factory setup still installed. The vehicle know is at 27,000 mi with after market wheels and tires on for 1,200 mi. Dealership is completely aware of this change and when.
Front struts replaced before purchase 8/07(leaking)front right strut replaced 10/07rear valence flew off on parkway replaced 10/18/07tire rub front right dealer blames manufacturing defect on framedealer also states front bumper sprayed.fraud car bought new no accidents on car.
Front struts leaked after 200 miles, vehicle has been at dealer for two weeks waiting on parts.
Both front struts blown out and leaking on my 06 pontiac gto.
I have a 2006 pontiac gto with just over 14,000 miles on the odometer.i was getting an oil change done and the car was up on a lift.my mechanic told me that i need to come look at something.he showed me that the inside of my right rear tire was worn to the point that the steel belts were showing through the tire.he also pointed out that the insides of my other tires were showing wear but not near as badly as the right rear tire.he stated to me that the only cause of this was to get an alignment.i had the alignment checked by an alignment shop that tells me that the alignment is in factory specifications.i had to pay for four new tires at discount tire company here in phoenix.i have done searches on the internet and many other gto owners are having the same issues i am having.pontiac needs to research this and recall these vehicles if necessary.something is very wrong here.
Hello, i would like to send you a complaint concerning the safety of my vehicle. I own a 2006 pontiac gto. My car currently has under 25k miles on it and i have already had two sets of tires blow out on me due to inner tire wear. I have owned my car for less then 1.5 years and i have put under 19k miles on it. As far as i know, i am not the gto owner with these problems. I have been told that the issue which is causing these tire problems has to do with bad suspension. I beg you to help by having gm contact gto owners and put a recall on these cars. How can gm get away this? the first time my tire blow out i figured the tire was bad b/c the car was a couple of years old even though it only had 5xxx miles on it. The second time i had a blow out, i was with a loved and nearly hit a telephone pole after i avoided hitting an on coming car. My tires are rotated regularly and my alignment is set just as often. This issue is very dangerous and i beg for your support, i do not feel safe in my car and this should not be the case.thank you for your time and please please help.
Faulty front struts failed after less than 1200 miles on new vehicle purchased 12 june 2006. Strut failure causes other suspension/steering problems and renders the vehicle inherently unsafe. This problem was known to general motors and to strut manufacturer prior to the sale of this vehicle to me. Faulty struts were not replaced by dealer, nor was i informed of this problem before, during or after vehicle purchase by dealer (hardin pontiac anaheim, ca), by general motors or by the strut oem (monroe). Had to discover myself. Since discovery have asked dealer about this who says i can still drive the car safely while replacement struts are on back-order until october 2006. Dealer re-balanced front tires as likely cause of wobbly steering already (july 2006) but wobble has returned due to strut failure. This is also squirting strut oil onto front brakes causing brake squealing and fading.
Left front strut failure, right front strut leaking on pontiac gto 2006.purchased new from dealer, 125 miles on vehicle.
Vehicle: 2006 pontiac gtopassenger side radius rod bushing failed after less than 600 miles.only noticed due to oil leaking from the bushing. I believe the drivers side bushing failed as well, but could not prove it.general condition of the two bushings was the same with indication the oil had already leaked out, but did not see the oil leak.
Both front struts blew out.
No abnormal event led to failures; context was normal driving. Failures were front suspension components; prematurely worn (1) strut rod bushings (i.e., radius rod bushings), (2) strut mount bushings, (3) lower control arm bushings, & (4) end link bushings. The consequences of (i.e., symptoms caused by) combination of 1, 2 & 3 were excessive, irregular, out-of-spec movements in, & wandering of, front suspension & steering components & front tires (which are connected to suspension/steering components)--both in camber & castor--as evidenced by (a) excessive negative camber, which caused (a1) premature inner tire wear, (b) excessive movement or vibration in front wheels, which caused (b1) some inner front tire contact with front struts, & (c) significantly reduced control, & increased instability, of car on road. Front tires are secured to car by triangulation of three major suspension components: front strut (secured to strut tower through strut mount bushing & bearing), strut rod (secured to front of engine cradle through strut rod bushings), & lower control arm (secured to side of engine cradle through lower control arm bushings), each of which experienced failure. Servicing dealer replaced, under manufacturers warranty, strut rod bushings, strut mount bushings, bearings, & hardware, lower control arm bushings (& lower control arms, since comes as an assembly), & end link bushings (have photos of collapsed, crowned strut mount bushings). Not replace tires or pro-rate. However, gm's replacement with oem parts does not correct underlying problem of poor quality/design oem suspension parts. Substantial out-of-spec movements in geometry of front suspension components in 04-06 gtos serious safety issue not appropriately addressed by gm or ntsb (ntsb action #pe07010). Appropriate solution is safety recall 04-06 gtos to replace front strut mount bushings & radius rod bushings w/high quality, heavy-duty parts (e.g., $350 part number gtotirerubpack at www.peddersusa.com).
Both front struts leaking oil on 06 gto at 875 miles. Due to concern of leaking oil contaminating front brake pads and concern for safe operation, said vehicle has been parked/taken out of service until further instructions from dealer. No replacement parts available as of this date.
Front struts failed.
Front strut failure on 2006 gto.
I have a 2006 gto that was making a loud humming noise between 20 and 50 mph after a 5,600 mile road trip which turned out to be premature tread wear on the inside edge (approx. 2" width) of each tire, with the remaining tread on each tire exhibiting normal wear.these were stock-size, 2 year-old dunlop direzza dz101 tires on the stock 17" wheels with 18,276 miles on them.after seeing this i checked the tires that came with the car that i kept for originality and they exhibited wear on the inside tread as well; it was just not as noticeable.i bought new tires, had the dealer perform a 4 wheel alignment check and everything was in specification.since the dealer could not offer a solution i started checking online and noticed that other people have had this same issue.i then emailed gm priority care and they responded by saying the tires were at fault since they were not original to the car and that gm would take no responsibility for this problem, even though i gave supporting documentation from other people, along with evidence of the same wear on the original tires.i then discovered that the suspension on these cars have quite a bit of negative camber built-in and that the camber is not field adjustable, so the only solution is to replace the suspension with aftermarket parts at great expense that allow camber adjustment.finally, i emailed gm priority care again, explained the negative camber issue to them and asked them which tires i should put on the car to prevent this from happening again (the stock tires are no longer made), but they did not respond.so now i must dismount the tires at every rotation to even-out the wear and hopefully prevent premature failure.as a side note, gm refuses to address the situation with my car in any capacity even though it is still under the extended gmpp major guard warranty until july 2016!
1.i have had the car for just over 3 weeks.after about a week i noticed a puddle under both front tires that looked like oil.2.i took it to the dealer and they said it would be a month before they could get the parts in stock.i have been driving it ever since.the car does not track well on the road and it floats and bounces all over the place.also, if there are imperfections in the road the car bounces around a lot.3.i am still waiting on the dealer to replace the parts.
2006 pontiac gto struts leaking oil after only 1800 miles. Both struts need replacement before brakes, bushings and under coating gets damaged.
2k miles on new 2006 pontiac gto, feb 2006 build date. Both front struts leaking causing oil seepage and loud clunking over terrain. Oil all over inner wheel well causing factory under coating to melt. Potential for oil to leak on to brake pads with brake failure to result. Fire hazard due to extreme heat generated by brakes and proximity to exhaust manifolds. Premature failure of sway bar linkage and stabilizer bushings caused from corrosive oil from leaking struts being sprayed over those critical suspension components. Potential for serious injury or fatality.
Purchased a new 2006 pontiac gto in july of 2006.after two weeks of driving i noticed that the car bounces around on the road a lot more than it used to.took the car to the dealership (andy klein pontiac) on august 3, 2006.dealer states that the struts have failed on the front of the car and the replacement parts are on order.dealer has no idea when the parts will arrive.since the vehicle was raised up off the ground to inspect the suspension, the bushing fell and now the car not only has no shock absorbers left, but no bushing to protect the metal on metal contact.car sounds and drives like it has 500,000 miles on it.very upset that dealer has me driving unsafe car and will not provide a rental until the parts arrive to fix the car.
While driving, front end started to rattle like it was falling apart.front struts leaking fluid contaminated the sway bar link bushings causing one to fail.fluid was on wheels and other suspension parts and all through inner fender and under car.if brake rotors were hot it could have caused a fire.
Failure of the left front strut and subsequent failure of front stabilizer bar mount at strut at 2400 miles. Currently awaiting dealer to obtain parts for repair. No injury or accident due to failure.
Right front strut on my 2006 gto.strut was collapsed and leaking.there is a gm information memo on this - pic4141.car had 1200 miles on it, i am waiting a week and due to many other gto having this problem, i am still waiting for a part.
The front struts failed and slung oil all over the brakes of my 2006 pontiac gto with less than 400 miles on it.i was lucky that i didn't lose control of the car.i even asked the salesman when i bought the car if he had heard of this problem, as i had read of other owner's having this problem, and he said not to worry about it.i am taking my car in to the dealership tomorrow.
One week after owning vehicle, noticed leak spots on driveway. After researching on internet car forums, was informed common occurrence for build dates jan-apr '06. Took to dealership to inspect and was told driver side strut is leaking. Told there is a 2-3 month wait due to high demand. On 7/29, strut finally blew while traveling on interstate causing a jolting sensation at high speed. Will take to dealer service dept on monday (7/31) in order to get loaner vehicle due to the 2-3 month wait told to me by dealer. I travel 35 miles to work one way so this is a very troublesome issue. A recall on these struts is way overdue before someone gets hurt or killed due to these blowouts.
My tires on my 2006 gto are wearing on the inside of the tire and blowing out my tire it appears to be rubbing on the struts i have replaced the tires and had alignments done and the new tires are doing the same thing it is a very dangerous situation with a car blowing out a front tire like this i almost caused a sever accident.
Worn tire tread with only 20,000 miles , had to pay for alignment and parts.was told these cars needed to have an alignment every 6 months.
2006 pontiac gto - right front (passenger side) tire making contact with strut. There is a groove being worn into the tire. Car has factory 17" tires, car has 1,200 miles. This is a problem that has been well documented to gm. This can cause a tire failure and potential injury/death.
Front strut failure - oil leaks from strut, resulting in loss of suspension damping on vehicle, as well as oil coating the front brake rotor and caliper.failure occurs with no warning.to date, vehicle is out-of-service and is with the selling dealer. No corrective action has been taken.awaiting replacement strut for vehicle.
I wish to know why nhtsa did not have a recall of pontiac gto's for the years 2004, 2005, and 2006..when 200+ complaints were filed about front suspension and extreme tire wear..
Drivers side front strut leaking oil. Front sway bar end link bushings assembled on drivers side wrong. Washer on lower bushing was installed on top of bushing instead of below allowing bushing to fall away from sway bar.
Front drivers side strut is leaking fluid all over wheel and garage floor. Car has only 430 miles on it 3 weeks old. Dealer said they would try to see me thursday july 27th.
2006 pontiac gtotires worn down to chord on inbard sides - despite alignment and regular tire rotation.suspension bushings the consistencies of "gummy bears" were replaced with aftermarket replacements along with new tires.radius rod bushings have not been replaced at this time.this allows the tires to vary alignment during braking.bushings and one pair of tires are available.
Front struts are loose and sloppy. Struts are leaking and now i have been waiting over a week for parts to fix my car.
2006 pontiac gto normal driving 35-40 mph front end struts both driver and passenger side failed. No accident, vehicle has between 500 and 600 miles on it. Returned to dealership for warranty replacement was told they would order the parts no idea how long it would take to get.
Right front strut leaking oil on sway bar bushings.jan 06 build date. ~700 miles on odometer.
Leaking front struts which could cause major failure while driving.
Test drove a brand new 2006 pontiac gto at the dealership with a suspension noise. Salesperson at the dealer commented that the suspension would settle down and the noise go away. I purchased this vehicle sunday august 19th and took delivery of the vehicle monday august 21st that already had this suspension noise. I brought the car in to check the suspension noise out. The problem is known as service bulletin number 4141 / nhtsa item number: 10020224. Service advisor now says it will now be 20 weeks or more before the replacement struts are available. Gm says not to drive this car with this issue because it is a safety hazard. My gto built date is feb 06. How can gm let their dealers sell my a car that is a safety hazard from day 1. This should be a recall not just a service bulletin. This is ridiculous and unsafe.
The two front struts on the car leak oil, which causes strut failure. The car had 800 miles on it when it first started. The replacement struts are on backorder. The car is unsafe to drive due to the struts being bad, and must sit at the dealership until the parts come in. Dealer did give a rental.
Both front struts failed on car with 2600 miles. Dealer says it will be replaced under warranty.
Had vehicle for less than a week. Front end noise at 300 miles. Replaced the two front struts. Vehicle driven to shop 7-1-06. Didn't receive vehicle back until 7-24-06. After replacing the front shocks under warranty i am still getting front end noise.
Struts leaking on 06 gto with 350 miles.
2006 pontiac gto with 11,500 miles. The inside tread was worn to the belts on all four tires. The rest of the tread looked in good shape. If it weren't for a flat the wear would not have been noticed and i would have run the tires until there was a blowout. These tires had been rotated twice by the dealer without a comment on the tread wear.
While driving down the freeway the inside edge of the right front tire was sliced off by the strut which rubs against the tire.almost lost control on the freeway.the tire was sliced down to the metal cords.the other tires also show the same unusual wear pattern.it is hard to notice this unique tire wear because it is on the hidden inside edge.i found out after this happened, it is a common problem on the 2004-2006 pontiac gto.someone is going to get killed by this defect someday.
Pontiac gto 2006.1st incident happened with approx 4,950 miles on car.front passenger tire blew out when i had just got off interstate (thank god).that was "fixed" by dealership after my car was parked in my driveway for approx 3 weeks while dealership got the specs from gm to re-align the front of my car.2nd incident happened at over 16,000 miles.pulled over after hearing a noise.back passenger tire was severed and a long piece had hit my fender wheel alerting me to the fact before the tire blew out completely.after looking at the other back tire - i found it had similar wear pattern.both were warn on the inside of the tire.dealership told me this was caused from a alignment problem that had been there since the beginning.i am now scared to drive my car!who knows what will happen in another 16,000 miles.
Purchased 2 new 2006 gto from clyde revord motors everett washington. 1st car front strut passenger side failed under 500 miles.2nd car front strut driver side failed under 50 mile.both car were built apirl 2006.
2006 pontiac gto blown right-front strut (at approx. 3180 miles) flatbed towed to dealership burns pontiac -gmc truck, inc. 500 w rte 70 marlton,nj 08053 phone: 856-983-6060 fax: 856-983-4770.
Purchased the gto july 5, 2006.did the first oil change on august 6th at 1983 miles.my husband noticed oil all over the undercarriage and inside wheel.we had been hearing a clunking noise once in awhile and handling started to get worse.he warned me to be careful when driving the car and to get it back to the dealer.took it in to the dealer the next day, they identified the strut problem, ordered parts, wanted me to drive the car until the parts came in, i refused and put us in a rental until it could be completed.called ponitac customer service to complain about the delay in parts availability.after a lengthy call with a lot of on holds, was informed we probably would not get the part until at least sept. 15, 2006.they are on a boat from australia and we were number 238 and only 100 parts were coming in.they agreed to reimburse us our payments after everything had been fixed.we received a call from the dealer on august 23 and had said parts in hand and car was fixed that day. (not the timeline we were expecting even better) they only replaced the drivers side the passenger side seems to be unaffected.we will keep an eye on both.they replaced the strut and the linkage (bushing) due to contamination.
Front macpherson strut leaking hydraulic fluid.
2006 pontiac gto engine failure at 15,000 miles.front suspension pulls to the left, with tremendous vibration from the steering wheel at highway speeds, vehicle will not hold an alignment.
Somewhere between 300 and 400 miles on vehicle the driver side strut began to leak. The oil has damaged the under coating. Was told 6 to 8 weeks for part to come in.
The car had been taken to the dealer in march 2008 regarding an issue of the front tires rubbing against the struts. The dealer identified the problem as an alignment issue and made a correction, however the excessive wear on the inside edges of the tires was not addressed. The excessive wear is not a tire defect and is a direct result of strut rub and alignment. Even when within alignment specs the excessive wear on the inside edges of the tires continues. At the time, in march, the front tires were rotated to the rear.in november the right reartire, previously left front which had rubbed the strut, began to shred while driving 60 mph. The tire did not go flat. The inside edge of the rubber peeled away from the tire in a 1/2 inch wide strip, exposing the steel belt. I am concerned that the other rear tire, previously right front, is about to do the same.i took the car to the dealer again and the dealer acknowledged the problem but said that because the alignment is within specs it is not a warranty issue. The dealer did offer to replace the one shredded tire at the expense of the dealership, but would not replace the other worn tire. The dealer also offered to recheck and adjust the front alignment because the front tires were again showing signs of premature wear on the inside edges.this is not a tire defect and is not normal wear and tear. This is a manufacturing and design issue that needs to be addressed by gm as many people are having the same problem. I want to be able to drive a car that i feel safe in, and this car has an increased risk of blowouts due to this problem. Gm not only needs to replace tires, it needs to determine how to solve the alignment/strut rub problem to prevent new tires from excessive and premature wear.
Front struts are leaking and not working. Entire front end of car is making terrible noises.
2006 pontiac gto both front struts failed with less than 400 miles on them.vehicle has been at dealership for two weeks with replacement struts available in 4-6 weeks.
Built 01/2006 gto - both front struts have failed, resulting in strut oil coating underbody and wheel wells.
New 2006 pontiac gto delivered 7/21/06. Noticed front end making clunking noise over small bumps 8/5/06. Took to dealer on 8/8/06 with 360 miles on car and told front struts and sway bar bushings had failed. Still waiting for parts and repairs.
While driving on a local highway, the front driver's side tire blew out. The blow out was caused by tire contact with the strut. This is the second occurrence of blow outs on this car due to the same issue. The last fix was to replace the tires and realign the car per updated specifications. The first blow outs occurred at 17,000 miles. This one was at 35,991 miles (18,991 miles after new tires). This "fix" of realigning the vehicle is inadequate, and someone should have to be held accountable to fix this issue from gm.
When replacing a "flat" tire on my 2006 pontiac gto with standard 17" wheels and original tires (approx. 26k miles), i noticed that the whole inner side of the tire was shredded beyond the belts. When i had the tire replaced, two additional tires were found in even worse condition - all were shredded on the inner side. One tire that had previously been replaced, was in good condition.i remember that when i bought the car, there was a manufacturer's service bulletin addressing "strut rub" on the inside of the front wheels. I made sure this was addressed and that the vehicle received an alignment at the dealership according to manufacturer's specs. Tires have been rotated at every oil change in accordance with maintenance procedures in the owner's manual. It appears that even thoughthe manufacturer is aware of the defect, the solution is not a cure. We have a vehicle that keeps on shredding tires - that is not very safe.
Struts leaking oil- struts bushing collapsed- no recalls from gmc seems alot people are having this problem with 06 pontiac gto.
I purchased a 2006 pontiac gto june 10, 2006.approx 4 weeks later i noticed front end noises and a degradation in front end vehicle stability.even modest bumps would cause the car to bounce repeatedly.the dealership has confirmed both front struts failed yet they felt comfortable having me drive the car while i waited for new struts.i have parked the car and will not drive it until it is repaired.
Was driving a 2006 pontiac gto with 19,100 miles on it and the car steering felt funny. Noticed extreme wear on the inside of the two front tires. Also, noticed slight rubbing on the front strut bar. Took car to dealer because cannot drive on these ruined tires which were ruined due to strut bar defeat. Now, i have to buy new tires and get an alignment. Dealer says i do not need a new strut bar which makes no sense. And they will not help me.
Both front struts on the car have failed causing oil to leak all over the front wheel well and destroy any rubber it comes in contact with.the suspension is not working and there is a very loud clanking coming from the front end whenever any uneven surface is traveled on.the front end tends to bounce often and even during hard braking.
Front struts replaced before purchase 8/07(leaking)front right strut replaced 10/07rear valence flew off on parkway replaced 10/18/07tire rub front right dealer blames manufacturing defect on framedealer also states front bumper sprayed.fraud car bought new no accidents on car.
I was doing an oil change and noticed that the inside of the front tires were worn to the steel belts. I removed the wheels and noticed there was bare metal showing on the inside of the strut tower brace.i replaced my entire set of tires and the same thing is occurring. I brought my car to the dealership and they tell me itis an alignment issue. I just had my alignment done 5 months ago at pep boys auto parts store.now the dealer told me that they did it wrong. I am being charged for inspection of my vehicle.
Blown front right strut.
While driving both front struts blew and stripped insides off each front tires. Could have been fatal if i didn't hear the strips of rubber flapping against wheel well. Please find a way to recall these cars before someone is killed. Pontiac is no help. Will no even return calls for information.
I have had my 2006 gto for 3 weeks and it has <1200 miles.both front struts are leaking oil all over the wheel well.the dealership service department told me that it is safe to drive.
The excessive negative chamber and the inadequate strut bushings caused the front tires to prematurely wear out. The car was under warranty but i was told by the dealer this was not covered.i had to purchase new tires and pay to have the front end aligned.
Both front strut failed!gm has acknowledged that all struts put on gto's from january to may 2006 are bad but has not yet recalled the vehicle to fix the problem.due to the low numbers of vehicles produced, they have not received enough complaints to voluntarily recall the defective cars.the struts leak oil from the factory and degrade/destroy all non-metal suspension components that the oil comes in contact with.the oil also degrades the undercoating when it comes in contact with strut oil.
Front end strut and bushing failure.
1)no events2) struts leak, car bounces in front, very hard to control at 200 miles.3) replaced under warranty however no recall on the many others that have failed on the same car.
2006 pontiac gtostrut braces on both left and right sides rub onto tires causing inside of tires to have significant wear. Very concerned for the health of myself and my family.
Car was parked. After starting the car and backing out of the space there was a loud clunk. Looked under the car to find that on the front suspension, the struts had dumped their oil out (failed) and had gotten all over the bushings which caused them to also go out (failed). Had to drive my 3 week old car to the dealership (they would not tow it) to get them to look at it. Checked out what was wrong and said they would order the parts to fix it. Finally got the car back 10 days later with replacement parts.
I bought this vehicle brand new in the middle of july, 2006.several days ago i noticed the left front strut appeared to be leaking fluid.the vehicle did not yet even have 500 miles.the leak does not appear to be hazardous and the car is drivable however it does not ride correctly.i took it to the dealer today, 8-8-2006, and they confirmed it was leaking and said they would order one.they said it was to arrive in a week.
With less than 1000 miles on my '06 gto my strut "blew" and started leaking. This is a very well know issue. The cause is known. The exact cars affected can be identified. There should be appropriate action taken. I am fortunate enough to be web-savvy, so i was able to identify the problem, but others may not be so lucky. They might find out when one of these things fails at a lethal time. It's bound to happen...
My 2006 pontiac gto drove normally for about 7,000 miles before the left front tire began rubbing against the strut. The rubbing has caused excessive tire wear on the inside of the tire and left visible marks on the strut where the rubbing has occurred.gm warranty service says that no recall has been issued on the vehicle regarding this problem, although an "enhancement" was performed on the vehicle prior to my purchase in july 2007. There are many reports of continued problems even with the enhancement and gm appears to have no intention of addressing the issue.this is a severe safety issue as blowouts and crashes are inevitable. I only noticed the problem when it came time to rotate the tires. Others may not be so lucky to catch the problem in time. There is a known issue regarding the strut bushings collapsing and with the cars being sold with wider tires than designed for.the car now has less than 8,000 miles and is unsafe to drive. The dealer is going to repair the problem, however the problem is likely to reoccur without more adequate parts installed.
Strut rub in my 06 pontiac gto...tires rubbing against struts and causing dangerous wear on inside of tires.dealership takes no responsibility and claims reason is alignment.
Bought new 2006 pontiac gto in june 2006 from hardin pontiac, anaheim, ca.brought vehicle back to dealer in july for squeaking brakes and misalignment. Brought vehicle back to dealer again in august 2006 for failed front struts, destroyed bushings, misalignment, and continued brake squealing problem.two service reps at dealer (ernie and matt) informed me they had no replacement struts until october 2006.service rep (matt) recommended i drive the car in this condition during a 3,200 mile vacation trip. I declined due to safety and creating more damage to the car. Dealer would not put me in a rental car despite warranty.i then offered to pay for the aftermarket replacements, covering the difference in oem and aftermarket parts myself. I provided dealer with all information concerning aftermarket parts, along with installation instructions and technical contact information.the dealer service manager (darin) agreed to put me in a rental vehicle until the aftermarket parts could be installed.the dealer then waited more than a week to order the aftermarket parts, at which time they became backordered for an additional two weeks.i then was forced, because of dealer delays, to cover the rental car.i finally picked up my car some five weeks after taking it in for installation of aftermarket parts. I found (and have documentation to prove) that my car had been driven for 90 miles with bad struts while in the dealer's possession.i also had to pay for the rental car. I was told by the gen mgr at hardin pontiac this was because his regional mgr would not authorize the rental car to be paid, even though this was authorized prior to rental by the service dept mgr at the same dealer.i have since learned that the installation of the aftermarket parts was not done per written instructions provided by myself and the manufacturer, which has caused the aftermarket components to fail, and premature wear on the tires.
2006 gto with 850 miles, both front struts leak oil. Bushing for sway bar to control arm has broken because of oil exposure. Dealer will replace both struts. Have read that cars with build date of jan or feb 06 are affected.
I purchased new 2006 pontiac gto.within 300 miles i noticed degraded handling characteristics and vehicle undercoating washed onto my driveway.took vehicle to dealer and was told it was air conditioning condensation.i returned vehicle a second time after inspecting myself and finding oil leaking from both front struts.
The feb 06 build of the 2006 pontiac gto.both of my car's struts have failed after 1200 miles and require replacement.apparently many people who's gto was built on this date have had the same problem.resulted in a clattering sound while driving, the parts in question will need to be replaced.
Nhtsa report, numerous web sites, television reports are all reporting premature or excessive tire wear on the pontiac gto.i requested an independent certified mechanic inspection. Mechanic reports wheel alignment readings on my gto show "not recommended" or excessive camber on the front wheels, which is causing excessive or premature tire wear. If not corrected the condition will cause premature tire failure.
2006 gto began leaking fluid at 160 miles. Told by dealership service that the vehicle was safe to drive, leaking steering fluid. At 200 miles began shaking, vibrating, making loud noise. Returned to dealership service. Advised design defect in struts, not safe to drive. Research since shows many, many gto owners are having strut failure almost immediately.
Driver side has oil on wheel well area. March 06 build date. 1000 miles. All struts are on backorder.
Right front tire is rubbing against front strut, wearing out side of tire. Vehicle is being brought into the dealer under warranty for repair.based on widely known information, concern is that this is a repetitive problem.
I took my 2006 pontiac gto in to get tires rotated and balanced. As the mechanics took the tires off the car to balance them they observed severe tire damage on the inside of the tire. The mechanics stated that the front tires have been rubbing against the struts on both side of the car. I have replaced the original tires on the car prior to this incident due to the mechanic stating tire failure because of improper alignment.this is ridiculous my car is currently at the dealership as they look for a reason to not warranty the problem.
My car has worn out three sets of tires since 8/7/2006 when i purchased it new. I had a flat tire today. When i took the tire off the driver rear side of the car it was badly worn on the inner threads again. It looked to me that the tire had actually rubbed something as opposed to tire wear. I was so aggravated when i finally got home i went on [email protected] and was advised by other members that the issue is called strut rub. I will be contacting gm when they open today. I am in the process of finding out what parts will correct the problem.
I have a 2006 pontiac gto with just under 24,000 miles. While doing a brake job i noticed that i had major wear on the inner sidewalls of my tires due to contact with the struts. The driver's side front tire had major wear on the inner edge as well as shredding along the sidewall diameter. The passenger side was not as bad on the sidewall, but there was still wearing of the sidewall. The inner edge of the tread had also worn greatly.the dealership refused to do any repair work for this stating that i would have to replace the front tires and to get an alignment.i have done a lot of research regarding this subject and have found many other gto owners having the same issue or worse.
I purchased a 2006 pontiac gto and from the start i heard a clunking sound at the front end while driving or slowing to stop.it appears to be the struts or control arms.this does not sound like a car without any problems and my friends have noticed the odd sounds like the car is getting ready to breakdown.
Purchased a 2006 pontiac gto on 8-13-06. Both front struts leaked oil and totally failed by 8-15-06. Less than 100 miles on vehicle.
Right front strut blew out, oil all around wheel well and under vehicle.right front very bouncy over bumpsvehicle only has 425 miles on it.
Both front struts leaking oil, sway bar bushing missing andend link installed backwards.very poor customer service from pontiac.
Left front strut started making clunking noises and leaking all over my parking lot.
Front passenger side suspension strut failed. Oil leaked out on smooth road surface. There was no activity prior to failure that would lead to unit being under abnormal stress. There are only 19000 miles on vehicle. Both front struts were replaced with monroe units as i would have no faith in standard units.
Front struts on my 2006 pontiac gto failed after only 20 months of use.this failure results in loss of directional stability and causes an increase in stopping distance.the car has seen no track time.it is my daily driver, mostly highway use.
The contact owns a 2006 pontiac gto.while driving 70 mph, the contact traveled a distance of only 200 miles.after returning home down a dirt road, he heard scratching and rattling noises.the contact looked under the vehicle and noticed oil leaking.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the struts failed.the contact searched gmc's website and discovered that the struts were supposed to be replaced before the vehicle was sold due to a recall on both front struts.he is in the process of getting the struts replaced.the contact feels this is a safety issue because a serious crash could have occurred due to the faulty struts.the recall number was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 7,100.
Purchased brand new 2006 pontiac gto and after only 500 miles the drivers side strut started to leak and make alot of noise. I took it to dealership at about 1000 miles once they got the part in stock and they decided to only replace that one. Not sure if they replaced any bushings from the oil be all over them.
2006 brand new pontiac gto , struts blew out and oil all over braking system. Car is thes than 1 month old.
*i purchased my new 2006 pontiac gto from "henry brown pontiac" dealership in mesa, az (march, 2006).*based on the gm published (and blog) information i reviewed in november 2007, i understood my vehicle build date (9/05) was supposedly not affected by the communicated issues.*while the vehicle was in the dealership (same dealership as purchased), their 'n' point inspection yielded vehicle steering rack leakage (since repaired), as well as premature tire wear on the right front tire (inner third of the tire).*i took the vehicle to my personal mechanic for review, and was highly advised to replace the front tires - while considering options for suspension bits replacement to compensate for the gm warranted parts.i was convincedthe after market parts were of higher quality, and would have longer life then the gm warranted parts.*i talked to the dealership service manager about the issue, and shared some of the information i had for his consideration.the service manager confirmed there had been vehicles returned to the dealership with the same issue(s).* i elected to have the entire vehicle suspension replaced at my expense, as well as replace all four tires on the vehicle.parts & tires taken off the vehicle have been preserved for future review.i have receipts for the work completed and tires purchased in the neighborhood of $5,000.00.*my expectation is to be compensated for my expenditures.
I am the original owner of a 2006 pontiac gto with 17" wheels.the struts rubbed the front tires until a chunk of rubber and metal coils were loose swinging around behind my tires.both of my front tires have to be replaced, even though the right tire has a lot of tread left, because the strut rub has eaten almost all the way through the tire.i was lucky i didn't have a blowout, but i noticed it in time.pontiac will not warranty anything, only offering me a free alignment in which they told me they were going to adjust to the maximum negative camber to try to move the tires as far away from the strut as possible.i have less than 24 thousand miles.i have had strut problems before.one side has been replaced 2 times and the other side once, not for strut rub.this sucks.
Bought 06 pontiac gto new on 6-30.noticed puddle under driver side on 7-1-06.contacted dealer on 7-3-06.took into dealer on 7-3-06 and told not to drive car if possible and bring back when parts arrived.garaged car until returning to dealer on 7-20.noticed another puddle on passenger side on 7-20-06.dealer states car is unsafe due to strut oil on brake pads, has had car since 7-20-06.pontiac states this is the first they've heard of it.i later find out it's a problem on all 06 gto's and parts are unavailabe to fix.still at dealership waiting for parts as of 8-8-06.
The contact owns a 2006 pontiac gto.while driving 20 mph, the vehicle veered from side to side and began shaking.the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected and they discovered a failed strip in the front passenger strut.the failure affected the alignment and the wheels, including the tires.in addition, the front passenger side tire had to be replaced because it was worn down to the steel belt.the contact wanted to be reimbursed for the repair.the failure mileage was 24,700.
Normal driving and after only 2900 miles, both front struts leaking oil and damaged the link bushings. Vehicles ride became very rough and noisy. Dealer replaced all parts and repaired it under warranty but would not elaborate on the cause of the failure. Did not return old parts.
After only 800 miles, my drivers side front strut has failed.
Tire wear on 2006 pontiac g.t.o. Hitting struts causing tires to separate. Taken to dealership, out of warranty so no repairs can be done. Car was in for the same repairs during the warranty period. All tires were replaced at that time, but problem still remains.
Oil leaks from both front struts after only 500 miles logged on 2006 pontiac gto. Dealer said part is on a national back-order and can not tell me when they will be available. Vehicle has been un-drivable for more than 2 weeks. No loaner was even offered until repairs could be made and i continue to make monthly payments on a $33k vehicle.
Bought 2006 gto w/ 50 miles on it. At 270 miles front struts failed by leaking oil and clunking in suspension.dealer says they'll try to get parts.. Have read that there is another strut mfg that will match gm warranty "gto forum".
Front struts leaking.
Buy new 06 pontiac gto, 3 days latter drive car to salt lake city, get there and have oil all down both sides of car and oil dripping from front wheel wells, cant see oil source so we turn around and head home. First canyon we hit there was bumps in road, front tires start bouncing and car slides sideways right off the road, we got the car to a stop without hitting anything, it was late so we decided to try and continue cautiously, that's when we noticed the bounce in the front end and realized we no longer had shocks, only springs in the front end. We made it home safely and contacted the dealer, i have been getting a run around from them ever since, i argued with the service manager for a loaner vehicle and he insisted the car was safe to drive, the struts have to come from australia and are on back order so there's no telling when they will be here, after researching this problem on the internet i find this is a common problem with all new gto's, see ls2gto.com.
New 2006 pontiac gto with 3700 miles.both front tireswere rubbing against the struts straight from the factory.i could feel the drag , and the local tire shop removed the front wheels to check it out,and saw the wear onthe struts from where the tires were rubbing.
Driving 60 mph on freeway and had a blow out. Almost hit two cars as a result of control loss. Removed flat tire (front passenger) and noticed the inside of tire was excessively worn down to the metal while the rest of the tire still had plenty of tread. Tire still had half its life left. Asked tire company to return the tire to me but they sent it to recycler before i picked the car up. I did take a picture of the tire and it does show the inside wear. There is a corresponding mark on the shock where the tire rubbed the paint off in one specific area on the shock. I have no alignment problems which is what the dealer said caused the blow-out. There is no question that the rubbing is what caused the problem. I don't feel safe driving and will have to prematurely replace tires which wii be expensive. There are alot of problems with the gto and gm should be responsible and accountable for the products they make. This isn't an isolated case like gm and its dealerships would like people to believe.
Front struts leaking oil after 800 miles.
Front struts developed leaks through normal driving.anti-sway bushing destroyed by fluid leak.vehicle is at dealership awaiting new parts.2500 miles on vehicle currently; problem developed with less than 2000 miles and has gotten progressively worse.
I purchased a brand pontiac gto after only 300 miles i have to replace the struts!!! i have owned the vehicle 10 days & for the last seven of those days its been in service with no promise of getting out anytime soon! i traded in a premium model vehicle for this junk!! im also concerned that after the problem is fixed it will happen again.
When removing my summer tires, and installing my winter tires i noticed that my front right tires inner shoulder was worn down to the steel belt.i was very concerned, as the car has been aligned by the mfg regularly, and the tires had low mileage on them.the tire was in a condition such that it could lose pressure at any moment.after research, it appears as if the front radius rod bushings and front strut mounts have failed.a major contributor to this failure was the fact that the vehicle was made in australia and shipped to the us for distribution/sales.during the shipping process, the vehicles were strapped down such that their suspensions were fully compressed.this extended load allowed for key suspension components to fail prematurely.another contributor to the failure is the fact that the tires mounted to the vehicle in the us are wider than the tires included with the vehicle in australia.the wider tires infringe upon the clearance between the tires and front struts.the early failure allows the tires to wear unevenly, and permits the tire to contact the strut mount during cornering, breaking and acceleration.countless other owners of this vehicle have seen the same issue, and the mfg "fix" is to align the front tires such that the camber is so large that it spaces the tire away from the strut.this is a band aid repair, as the front suspension performance is now limited, and the tires wear the outside shoulders prematurely.
2006 pontiac gto had to have all 4 tires replaced as the car has the strut rub problem that i have heard and read about since i bought the car. One of tires developed a slow leak and i took it to the local dealer where it has had its regular service done. They called me out to look and showed me how all of the tires had wear on the inside and one in particular was virtually shredded. I have had frequent rotations done on this car as a precaution since learning of this problem.although with each rotation i would ask the dealer if there were any signs of this abnormal tire wear and they always acted like they never heard of such a thing.it is obviously a design flaw as what vehicle needs all new tires every 10-15 thousand miles because of inner tire shredding? i find it hard to believe that there has not been a recall on this automobile to fix this problem. I am just thankful that i did not experience a blow out on the highway because of this obvious design flaw.
Right front strut is leaking oil after two weeks of ownership.gm has recognized that there is an issue with this part, but will not issue an official recall.this is clearly a safety issue as it affects the handling of the vehicle and could be detrimental in an emergency situation.
Strut rubbing on inner wall of front tires.my 2006 pontiac gto has 28k miles and i had to replace all four tires.even though i had the car serviced directly at the dealer since the original purchase, they only reported a concern with alignment.come to find out the root cause was a rub on the struts which now requires me to replace all four tires.i had to park the vehicle for months to save enough for the $900 replacement.had this done today only to be told they still rub.i plan to address this with the dealer bit don't expect positive results.after reading up on this from the internet it sounds like i'll need to purchase a camber kit ($350.00 retail) plus installation fees and re-alignment.this design flaw should be compensated by the vehicle's manufacturer not the buyer.appreciate any advice or assistance you can offer.
The contact owns a 2006 pontiac gto.the contact stated that there was premature wear on the inner shoulders of his two front tires.the failure causes both front tire belts to be visible from the struts.in addition, the contact noticed sparks coming from the front tires while driving various speeds.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure.the repair will cost $1,000.the vehicle is still under warranty; however, the dealer will not honor the warranty.the failure mileage was 30,000.
Front strut leaking. There is a small pool of oil on my driveway from 2006 pontiac gto.i checked and it's coming from my front driver's side strut.
Drivers side front strut leaking oil.
1. Driving 500 miles lead to the failure of front struts on my 2006 pontiac gto.2. The struts are completely gone and it causes a safety issue that would be considered a safety inspection failure in massachusetts.also, not having front struts that work properly can cause serious damage to the car, including tires, rims, front end and frame damage.3. No one seems to be able to get any replacements to fix the problem.there is a huge safety problem here that needed to be address as soon as possible before people get hurt.
2006 pontiac gto --250 miles-- front struts are defective all fluid has leaked out on to wheels, brakes, suspension parts and rubber bushings and grommets. Numerous other owners are experiencing the same problem. Possibly damaged during shipment from australia.
4000 miles on 2006 pontiac gto and the front strutswereleaking fluid.
2006 pontiac gto driver's side front strut failure.
Both front struts started leaking oil at approx 180 miles on the car.gm and the dealer say it is ok to drive with oil leaking all over the bushings, wheels, and brakes.
2006 pontiac gto front driver's side strut leaking fluid. Bought car brand new on 6/30/06, has 298 miles on it. Noticed oil in garage floor under front driver's wheel on 7/11/06 at about 270 miles.
Driver's side front strut failed on 2006 pontiac gto with approximately 100 miles on the odometer.car was purchased new the day before failure.
Left and right struts leaking!!
Car has 700 miles on it, and there is a terrible noise coming from the front end.it appears that the front strut is leaking.
Purchased 2006 pontiac gto from a dealership on 6/30/06.after 400 miles i found the front left macpherson strut leaking oil.the car is going back to the dealership to have it replaced on 7/11/06.luckily there was no accident involved, but there have been others with the same problem.
Right front stabilizer broke.now both struts leaking, parts will not be in from australia for 3 weeks.what else is wrong because of the delay
Normal driving and after only 2900 miles, both front struts leaking oil and damaged the link bushings. Vehicles ride became very rough and noisy. Dealer replaced all parts and repaired it under warranty but would not elaborate on the cause of the failure. Did not return old parts.
Failure of front struts on 2006 pontiac gto with 3,000 miles.
Leaking front struts on a 2006 pontiac gto silver/black car was purchased new from rogers auto group in chicago on june 3rd. The build date is feb 2006.
(1) car bought new.proper break in procedure being followed, no hard driving! (2)both fronts struts are leaking oil and front suspension makes mechanical clunking noises, especially going over bumps. (3)dealer replaced both front struts during the course of two visits.
Driver's side front strut leaking after only 200 miles.
Both front struts leaking oil.passenger side much worse than driver side. Both the car and the struts have build dates of march 06.problem first noticed with only 120 miles on the car.
Under normal driving the strut leaked, at 600 miles on new pontiac gto. There seems to be no replacement parts!!! could be a safety issue at high speed. Dealer service dept. Told me to drive it until a strut can be found!!gto forum on internet said there have been 26 complaints so far!!!!!!!!
2006 pontiac gto both front struts blew at 100 miles covering entire undercarriage and wheel wells with oil this is happening to 1000's of vehicles and gmc is not notifying dealers or consumers of this.this issue can lead to suspension failure and or vehicle fire. The oil is also destroying front bushings and stabilizer bar. And brakes are also affected. Pontiac is ignoring issue and no recall has been issued.
Myself along with many other 2006 gto manufactured in feb 2006 have leaky front struts and poor ride quality.it seems that gm should be aware of the problem and perform a recall to get this issue fixed.
New 2006 pontiac gto both front struts are leaking oil.
Left front strut failure and leakage 06 pontiac gto.
Leaky front struts.
My 2006 pontiac gto blew 2 front macpherson struts shortly after i purchased the vehicle on 6-6-06.the dealership was not able to acquire new struts because they were on backorder.therefore, the dealership pulled struts out of a new gto on the lot and installed them in my car.one week later they blew out as well.during extensive research on the internet forums, i have found many many people who have blown front struts in their 2006 gto' s.they have all been gto's that have a completion date of either january or february 2006.the dealership that i bought my car from has contacted gm to find out if this has been a problem and their response has been to see how hard am i driving the vehicle.the dealer said they are not admitting a problem with their struts.this is a performance car and as such people will drive them like a performance car and if they happen to blow a strut during a racing maneuver it could be deadly.i feel that they should alert the consumer of theses vehicles with a service bulletin to inspect these january and february vehicles.all that is needed is to go to a gto forum online to see peoples responses i.e. Ls2gto.com or newagegto.com are a couple.for gm not to admit a problem with these struts is aggravating.you don't have a national backorder for no reason at all.it took 2 1/2 weeks for brand new struts to come in for my gto.i also had to wait for other parts that were back ordered because of all the oil that leaks out of the struts causes problems with these other parts.you spend $40000 on a vehicle and to have someone say that maybe it is the way i'm driving the vehicle is insulting.to blow 2 sets of front struts out in a performance car in under 500 miles is a little extreme. I just hope to raise awareness to gm so they satisfy the customer before something bad could happen.
Brand new 2006 pontiac gto - both front struts leak.
06 pontiac gto front passenger tire was shredded on the inside from strut rub. Front passenger side strut found to be leaking after the tire blew out driving down the highway at the posted speed of 70mph on 5-26-07. There was a complete ring ground all the way around the inside front tire when it was pulled from the car. The dealer states that there are no strut rub issues but reluctantly replaced only the passenger side strut and tire. My concern is that i may have another safety issue with the driver side strut and tire if it fails that may cause more than just minor repairs to the car. Dealer provided gm paperwork that states only struts with manufacturer dates between 1/16/06 & 5/4/06 are affected and any others should not be replaced.
Dt*:the contact stated while inspecting the vehicle's struts, there was moisture present on the front driver's side.the next day during further inspection, lubricant from the strut was observed to be spewed inside of the wheel well.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the parts are not available to make the repairs.the manufacturer has been alerted.
2006 pontiac gto with a build date of feb 2006 has had a front strut failure since delivery of the car on 7/3/06.the front struts leak oil all over the front suspension and garage floor and strut dampening ability has been greatly reduced causing unstable highway driving.this is a common problem with the batch of monroe shocks put on the feb 2006 gto's.
Bought the car and the next day started to make occasional noises in the front end when turning. Found leaking fluid on garage floors on both sides where the struts are. Took into the dealer today and they are replacing them.
Right front suspension strut blew a seal leaking hydraulic fluid into the wheel well and body side.
I bought my 2006 pontiac gto with 17 miles on it. I found out through a web forum, that the 2/06 gto's may have had a bad batch of struts. Needless to say, that when i took my car on a short trip with my family, the car started to leak fluid from the right front strut. I think that the manufacturer should put out at least a tsb or recall these cars to make sure they are safe. I had my family with me at the time.
Within a day or two after taking delivery, i noticed fluid leaking from near the front (drivers side) tire.dealer service confirmed the leak is coming from the strut and that the part would be replaced. Part had to be ordered and i was told it was ok to drive the vehicle until part could be replaced.oil is now on my garage floor and the car does not handle as well as it should. There have been many reports of a similar nature regarding failed/leaking struts with the gto.i have never had this happen on any vehicle i've ever owned.
Strut rub in my 06 pontiac gto...tires rubbing against struts and causing dangerous wear on inside of tires.dealership takes no responsibility and claims reason is alignment.
Front strut failure. The front struts on the 06 pontiac gto with a build date 02/06 seem to have strut failure. The car may lose control.
No significant event happened.noticed oil from struts on garage floor.new vehicle with only 173 miles on the odometer.no action taken as of yet.
Front struts leaking fluid and strut rubbing against front tire.
Front struts continuedto make failure noises - was checked by dealership numerous times , each time i was told that this noise was due to high performance tires and 18 inchrims that came on the car. This noises wereequivalent to blown struts. This start on the first couple of weeks of purchasing the car.2006 pontiac gto w/ 6 speed.
Driver and passenger front struts are leaking. Vehicle has just over 200 miles, purchased 5 days ago. Pontiac gto built in january 2006. This appears to be a known problem among other owners of this vehicle.
Took thevehicle to dealerfor oil change and tire rotation.i inspected the vehicle myself while on the lift in service bay.both front struts were leaking fluid ,and tire had rubbed paint offthestruts.
Driving down the road and the left front wheel started to hop, like there was no shock in it and shaking the steering wheel.pulled over and noticed my front struts (shocks) were leaking all over the place.shock oil was all over the front brakes and the rotors. Only had the car 1 day brand new from the dealer. 1 day old
Front strut seal failure resulting in oil puddle on my driveway under strut as well as underside of vehicle.
Purchased a new pontiac gto, car was built in february of 2006, took delivery in late may.after ~3100 miles of normal driving, a popping sound started coming from the front passenger side.the sound was caused by a failing macpherson strut that has been reported on other gto's built in february 2006.
Dt*: the contact stated after having the front strut repaired on 7-18-06, less than 1,000 miles later, the strut was leaking again.the suspension was making a loud banging noise on 7-29-06 and the garage floor, where the vehicle was parked, had a large amount of oil.the dealership determined the front strut failed again.
Leaky front struts
Both front struts lost their seals and the sway bar linkage was damaged. The car only had 500 miles and was driven according to the recommended break-in.
1.none, my 2006 pontiac gto was purchased brand new and i only got to enjoy it 600 miles before parts failure.2. Both front struts failed, resulting in no front body movement control and oil all over. The oil also caused the bushings on the front suspension to fail resulting in horrible noises. The car was not drivable until it was repaired.3. The dealership replaced both front struts and the front stabilizer.days later the driver's side is clunking and leaking oil again.the old parts are not available.
Bothfront struts leaking.
Just pickmy new car up drove home less then 20 milescar was hitting hardin the front [ al most skidded around a bendof road ] suspension:front:mcpherson strut both failedat 285 miles.
Both front struts leaking by 1000 miles. Build date 2/06.
2006 pontiac gto front strut failure.there is fluid leaking out of my front strut and also a clanking sound coming from the same area.handling is very loose and can be dangerous.i'm bringing the car in for service at the dealer for warranty work.
Left front strut leaking oil.
1) purchased a new 2006 pontiac gto.2) front struts leaked all of their oil causing the car to become unstable while turning over bumps or while braking.3) the car will have the struts replaced by the dealer under warranty.
With fewer than 900 miles on the odometer since new, my 2006 pontiac gto began leaking oil from the driver side strut into the wheel well and along the underbody of the car.the strut will need to be replaced.dealership will replace with identical part#.
Strut failure on my 2006 pontiac gto (with 67 total miles). Struts are leaking fluid on the garage floor and oil is getting all over the undercarriage of the vehicle.
2006 pontiac gto blown right-front strut (at approx. 3180 miles) flatbed towed to dealership burns pontiac -gmc truck, inc. 500 w rte 70 marlton,nj 08053 phone: 856-983-6060 fax: 856-983-4770.
I had not been driving my new 2006 pontiac gto for more than a week when i noticed the left front strut was leaking oil.the car had less than 500 miles on it, and was not abused during that time.i anticipate the dealer will be replacing the strut under the warranty of the car.
I own a 2006 gto - purchased may 2007. Approx 8,000 miles the front passenger strut went out.dealership replaced.approx 11,000 miles, drivers side strut went out. Dealership also replaced.now @ 31,000 miles our rear tires needed replacing. When we took the old tire off, we noticed that the inside of the tire had worn out.the dealership said that they would check into the problem.we know that the front tires will probably need to be replaced.we have not heard from the dealership in 4 weeks from the date we purchased the new tires.they did do a front wheel alignment @ no charge.we do plan on going to the dealership to see about them replacing our front tires @ no charge.please note that i rely on my dealership to advise me that i should have purchased new tires.i have them rotated every other oil change since we purchased the vehicle.after researching thru the nafta reports, we have found that this problem has always persisted.please advise if there is another way that we should resolve this issue.thank you
Have new 2006 pontiac gto with less than 1000 miles on it.right front strut began leaking and after a few days has failed completely -- i can see that the seal has slid down the shaft and is resting against the bottom linkage.brought it to the pontiac dealer and was told that there are no replacements available right now...was put on some kind of list.i asked if it was safe to drive and the dealer said "i don't know."
Front left and front right strut leak.severe suspension failure.loud metal clanking sound over any form of uneven ground/bump.850 original miles on car.owned for 4 weeks.
Left front strut/shock absorber failure - leaks fluid.
Front passenger strut is leaking all over tire, inner wheel well, and bushings.have been doing a gentle break-in on this car so this was completely an unexpected failure, especially since the vehicle only has 258 miles.am awaiting word from dealer on time to order/install part.none are in stock.
2006 pontiac gto. Strut failure. Have had the car for less than 10 months and the struts have failed. Have read that this is a problem with this make and model. This could cause fatal car wrecks, suspension is important for vehicle stability.
New 2006 pontiac gto right front strut leaking and defective. Dealer service replaced strut.
I bought a brand new 2006 spice red metallic pontiac gto on june 30, 2006.two days later while backing out of my driveway i noticed two small puddles of oil located next to each front tire while it was parked.i notified my dealer and it was checked and it was determined that both front struts were damaged either through shipping or just bad equipment from the factory.the dealer ordered new struts but have not received them as of yet.
Brand new pontiac gto with 300 miles.owned 6 days.both front shock struts leaking oil all over the place and making a mess.replacement parts will most likely take weeks to ship from australia. Meanwhile i'm paying $500 a month for a 6 day old broken car and i traded in my old car to the dealer that sold me this broken car.
The front struts were defective within the first 300 miles. Both front struts leaked all their contents and both front stabilizer bushings collapsed within 2 days of vehicle ownership.
Tires rubbing struts and wearing the inside of tires down. Tires then shred and blow. Struts are also leaking fluid. This is a major safety issue ,and they need to have a recall on this before a vehicle blows a tire and flips and kills someone.
Oil from the left front struts are leaking into the wheel well.the dealership informed me that it is safe to drive the vehicle even with the defective strut, but driving condition may worsen due to the continuing leakage of the strut.the dealer ordered the struts but claimed that the delivery may take more than one month.so in conclusion, the automobile, by the dealer's suggestion, is safe for driving even with a defective suspension part for more than one month.
Right front stabilizer broke.now both struts leaking, parts will not be in from australia for 3 weeks.what else is wrong because of the delay
The front struts were defective within the first 300 miles. Both front struts leaked all their contents and both front stabilizer bushings collapsed within 2 days of vehicle ownership.

I purchased a 2006 pontiac gto in august 2007. After driving for 1 month, i parked the car in my garage and was deployed overseas to iraq for 3 months. After returning, and driving my car for approximately 6 months, with a total car mileage of less than 20,000, my front tire unexpectedly started to fray and caught on to the axle as i was driving on the highway in may of 2008. The tire literally started to unravel like a ball of yarn. I took my car into the pontiac dealership at 16200 frederick rd, gaithersburg, md 20898. The service mechanic informed me that low tire pressure caused the tire to rub against the strut and that is what caused the tire failure. I was also told that both front tires needed replacement. At that time, i just had the one tire replaced and the tires rotated. On october 2, while taking my car in for an oil change, i received a call from the dealer saying i needed two new front tires, as the inner tread had started to wear quite rapidly and was becoming dangerous. My car has less than 21,000 miles on it, with tire pressure inspected, and if needed, filled on a bi-weekly basis. I did some research and it appears this is a common occurrence with my vehicle make. I feel this is a defect in the design of the car. All of the parts on my car are directly from the factory and it has never been raced or abused. I drive my car each day less than 5 miles, as i take public transportation to work. My car is mainly a weekend car, with little use during the week. I have owned 2 separate cars in the past and have never had this problem. I realize my car is a high-performance vehicle, but other cars of the same category do not have this problem.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac gto.while driving 60 mph, the steering column vibrated and shook excessively.the contact noticed that the tire tread was very low.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the failure was due to tire imbalance.a professional technician stated that the tires were rubbing against the struts.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 27,000.
I found that 3 of the wheels on my 2006 pontiac gto have cracks.2 wheels have one spoke cracked completely though and one is starting.there is no other damage on the wheels.these are the original 18x8 optional wheel.
