2006 pontiac grand prix: vehicle engine shuts off while driving regardless of the speed you are going example: 10-65mph, steering wheel locks up so you can't pull to the side of the road to avoid crash. A month or so before engine started shutting off my airbag light an tone was appearing and alarming... I've almost been crashed into 4 times by semi's an school buses. This is very serious an dangerous it almost caused my life an i am 7 months pregnant with a 6 year old who has also been in the car with me. I hope this gets resolved i wasn't warned of any recall good thing i started googling an found out that there has been a recall on my ignition/electrical system.

I was driving west bound on i-10 towards tucson arizona. I was in the right lane and there was a pickup truck in the left lane. The pickup truck cut me off and moved into my lane without checking his blind spot. I quickly swerved to the right into the lane for the upcoming exit to avoid being hit, and when i tried to correct to left in order to not hit exit sign the brakes felt as if they did not work right and i couldn't get control of the vehicle. The car went into a roll and landed on the passenger side. None of the airbags deployed. I had left town the day before and was on my way back. When i contacted my parents about the accident on the 21st they told me that a recall had come in the mail the day before for my vehicle. The recall was the gm recall notice. Because i was unaware of the recall i had many keys on my key ring. I feel that although the reason i had to swerve was because of another car, the reason i couldn't get back control was a malfunction in my car.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the air bag warning light flashed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,110.

I bought my car used, and a few weeks later it was having a problem with "charging system failure" when i would try to turn it on and it would not start, in stationary position. At the time, my car key had 3 other keys plus a small keychain, and a clasp to hook onto a belt loop or something. After i took off the clasp, i haven't had any major problems, just every once in a while. I'm wondering what can be done since there was a recall specifically for this and it was never taken care of prior to me buying it.

Got cutoff on a busy highway going 70mph and they slammed their brakes. I had 6 car lengths between us and immediately started braking but we were just skidding. I had the choice of hitting the vehicle or swerving left towards the median. I chose the latter. The steering locked up, the abs did not kick in and the airbags did not deploy. We hit a median at 70mph and no airbags?! i was point of impact. It hit the front drivers side, destroying the light and entire front. The car spun around and it hit again but this time it was the back passenger side/light. Again, no airbags deployed. So my abs, steering, and airbags all had issues. We are so lucky no one is hurt in severeity but i am beyond fuming, scared, and confused why all of those locked up/failed to serve their purpose!most severe injuries were me with contusions, strains, and a herniated disc in my neck (likely to cause chronic pain, per doctor.) cop already found me not at fault so no ticket/points, to give an idea. Person kept driving. One person stopped and happened to be 4 cars behind us and verified what happened to us. The vehicle is totaled. We are sol on a car now as insurance said it wasn't worth having collision considering how old it was... Never had an accident or ticket in 10+ years of driving. The car failed me.

While driving my car on street i was struck on the passenger side in a intersection when a chevy maxi van struct me when running a red light. My airbag did not deploy and my vehicle was totalled. I sustained body injuries such as back and neck and financial hardship. I have never recovered from these injuries.

The vehicle slid on ice therefore spinning into a 360 whereupon the vehicle impacted with a bridge then the opposite side of the bridge with the initial impact at 70 mph.the vehicle hit the bridge with the front end and the rear end, however the airbag never deployed and the seatbelt did not tighten.

I purchased a 2006 pontiac grand prix, i have been reading the complaints on this site about airbags not deploying in severe accidents. I have also noticed that there was a recall on the 2006 buick lacrosse which is mechanically identical to the grand prix. In theory because the two cars are basically the same but have different names and different sheet metal it is quite likely that they suffer form the same problem. However, the grand prix has not been recalled.

My sister was driving my car which is a 2006 pontiac grand prix.she was traveling south bound on a highway, when a jeep cherokee pulled out in front of her.my sister was going about 55 to 60 mph, when the accident occurred.the airbag on the driver side steering wheel did not deploy.however, my sister was not injured too bad from the accident.i called the pontiac manufacturer, and they said that because she was not seriously injured that they were not too concerned about it.however if she was seriously injured then they were going to be concerned and look into it.i would think that a vehicle collision at about 60 mph the air bag would deploy.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving 20 mph, the headlights failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hdm relay overheated and melted the fuse box. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Low beams went out , when i got home and turned off car, i noticed smoked coming from under hood of car my relay fuse box was on fire ,low beam relay was melted. Pontiac says there are no recalls on this carbut there seems to be alot of people with the same problem.

Headlights started off jumping when driving. Then when parked starting car sometimes headlights would come on and times it would not. I would have to turn on high beams to get headlights on to stay on. Then that didn't work any more. Now headlights are gone and dash board light are also out.

Headlight and low beams are not working again. Replaced this problem about three - four months ago and again stopped working after spent 300.00. I was coming out of the store got into the car and started driving and went out again. I see there is lots of people having the same problem and something needs to be done. Now again i am without a car and cant drive it again at night.

Headlights go outwhen driving. Normallyat night time and when traveling above 40 miles per hourthis has been going on for over 24 months and it has started to get more frequent over the last 6 months.(not sure this is because of more night time driving i have been doing] this is a serious safety hazardi am now spending $580 on a computer issue and on top of all the other issues to deal with>i am hoping this solves the problem

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac. Grand prix. While driving at night, the low beam headlights illuminated intermittently. The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that there was an intermittent electrical short that was affecting the low beam lights and burning fumes emitted from under the hood. The failure progressed to the point that the low beams failed to turn off manually or by using the auto feature. A mechanic attempted to remove the low beam relay and replaced it with a new low beam relay. Shortly after, it melted into the fuses. The vehicle was to be taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,500.

The bright lights stay on, my horn doesn't work, the instrument codes will blink off and on.. There is a windshield wiper motor that causes a power surge that blows out the blower motor to go out.. It has burn marks..

My lights go off on there own no warning an then the brights come on an stay on an when i try yo use the signal lights all the lights in the car cuts off and when i was driving my brakes. Sometimes not all the time they've been checked several times and each time they have been checked there's nothing wrong with itand now my steering column have a problem with it don't know what's causing it don't know what's wrong but its hard for me to turn my car now.

Pontiac grand prix that i owned was flipped two times and still runs but the cars air bags never went off. Plus had a varity or electr problems. And speed rpms never seemedto work properly. But dont get me wrong i love the car to deasth but its saftey has become an issue.

The pontiac 2006 grand prix will remain running withkey out of ignition, also at times the key will not release from ignition switch in off position key wont come out.also the car has shut down while driving 30 mph 5 miles from home.the car is in excellent condition,128000 miles now well cared for.

The ignition/key was bumped during driving and the engine, power steering and power brakes all turned off.luckily i was able to safely pull over and re-start the car.this is the second occurrence.this seems to be the same issue that there is a major recall around for gm but they are not including the grand prix in the recall as of yet.

R reading some of the complaints that have been submitted, i don't know where to begin or if i have enough characters to express my frustration with my 2006 pontiac grand prix gt supercharged.my recent issue is that the car keeps cutting out and stalling.i took the car to the dealer and spent $110 on a diagnostic after 4 other local mechanics could not duplicate the issue or pinpoint the problem. The result from the dealer's diagnostic was: p0300 multiple misfires; needs 3 coils and ignition module replaced $1090 installed; also has a bearing going out in the super charger and there is a harsh 1-2 shift. I just spent about $1000 getting fuel pump, back wheel bearings, right brake hose, and valve cover gaskets replaced. Rack and pinion had to be tightened although it was replaced twice last year (bad part the first time). I have had power steering pump replaced, water pump replaced, air intake tube/valve replaced. Paid dealer for diagnostic because no codes or indicator lights were on and 4 different mechanics couldn't pinpoint issue. Dealer stated they have up-to-date equipment and code p0300 came up. Car intermittently hesitates to start. Car acts hesitant after car starts after hesitating to start. Interior seats and dashboard has cracked. Abs/traction seems to be failing, car still moves after applying foot on break...slides a little, no immediate stop, even after i have had complete brake work performed (wheel bearings, pads, rotors, hubs, etc.). Supercharge switch has been replaced and elbow tube off the motor block (think that is correct, it's an l-shaped small tube).a lot of repairs have been made.the car runs smoothly when necessary repairs are made. Hate to get rid of the car with all the money and care that has been placed into the car. I am not in a postion to purchase a new vehicle but with the miles i don't want to put extensive $. Gm won't assist.

Low head lights started flickering then went out, still had high beams. Pulled into driveway and the fuse panel under the hood was smoking, disconnected the battery and lifted the lid to fuse panel and the relay had exploded and burnt through the panel that holds the fuses. A brown liquid was all over smoking.

Multiple electrical system failures causing error codes of "charging system failure", "traction control failure", "stability control failure". Dealer verifies failures however, since they are unable to duplicate failures; no service is being performed.two failures previous and third occurred this date.prior service appointment oil leak service request resulted in main seal failure which was replaced as warranty item.only consequences to date have been time and monetary loss.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to engage. As a result, the contact's vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle, which then crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained minor injuries to the head. Medical attention was not required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 158,000.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the electronic throttle and reduced engine power warning messages illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact mentioned that the vehicle started experiencing the failure after being repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The failure recurred multiple times. In addition, the contact mentioned that the headlights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 115,000.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving at highway speeds, there was a drastic reduction in speed, the reduced engine power indicator flashed, and the vehicle would not exceed 30 mph. The vehicle was extremely difficult to maneuver when the failures occurred. The dealer was not notified. An independent mechanic diagnosed that there were 14 diagnostic trouble codes and stated that further diagnostic testing was required. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted and had not issued a recall campaign. The failure mileage was not available.

My car started on fire while on a city road because of the power steering pump pulley completely sprung off serpentine belt melted coolant reservoir melted fuse box be melted from the fire how many other things something to do with the power steering pump leaking fluid and hitting my exhaust causing a fire in my car

Indicated "charging system failure".this is the fifth time this error code has presented.in october 2007, additional failures presented causing vehicle to stall while negotiating a curve.vehicle has been taken to pontiac dealership for problem.first time at dealer, the alternator was replaced, second time, the battery was replaced.dealership is only prolonging another failure.

My low beams will go out without any warning, not consistent.this happens on highway or city.they will come back after a few minutes, or sometimes days.i still have high beams

Car has been continually overheating, radiator has been flushed and refilled with fresh coolant and new thermostat was bled. Car is fine while driving over 50mph but overheats when in traffic at a light. Driver back window motor is out, the window goes down but won't go up. The car stopped abruptly while driving and had to pull on the side don't know what happened but it won't start up but the lights come on inside the vehicle. I have had trouble since purchasing this vehicle. Gm needs to take this vehicles completely off the road they have stop making them and i can see why they're nothing but money eaters.

When doing 60, my car would shut off while driving suddenly in the middle of the highway and i would lose power steering and would have to fight steering to get off the road to prevent accident. I would never know when it would happen it just did without warning. This happen multiple times until one day it wouldn't start. I called harper motors, where i bought the car in 2006 and they came and took my car to fix it in 2010. They had to replace my ignition switch and replace my computer. It cost me over 800dols. Don't know why my car wasn't put in the gm recall but it should have. I thank god that i wasn't on a major hwy. Each time this happened.

Vehicle shut down at 55 mph while inside eisenhower tunnel colorado. Husband calmly placed automatic transmission into park and restarted car. This type of incident has happened twice again since the original incident. Prior to the first incident car lost power coming up the grade at 65 mph. We were forced over to the side of the interstate. After waiting for a tow (which was slow to respond) approximately 20 minutes, tried the ignition and the engine turned over. Never received an adequate answer from dealer. Suspect fuel problem with altitude, or ignition problem. Incidents always seem to happen at higher (55+) speeds.

When using the turn signal, the vehicle's high beams may turn on without intent. This could potentially blind other drivers on the road and cause an accident. This happens when the vehicle is stationary, in motion, and turning. Cold weather amplifies the issue. The issue is demonstrated in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36scdplz3dk

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign id number: 14c400000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed was unavailable to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that he had headlights and a blue tooth installed in the vehicle.when he removed the key from the ignition, the stereo made a loud popping noise that could be heard through the speakers.whenever it pops, the contact experiences electrical failures and the clock, instrument panel gauges, and the stereo would reset.oftentimes, the head and tail lights will dim while driving at night.the dealer could not duplicate the failure.the tail lights have blown on the vehicle at least nine times.the windshield was blurry, which resembled driving under the influence and prevented clear visibility.the windshield was replaced under warranty.the manufacturer instructed him to take the vehicle to the nearest dealer.the contact stated that he had already been to the dealer a minimum of nine times and the failures could never be duplicated.thus far, the battery and dashboard have been replaced.the molding for the driver's side window has been replaced as well; however, the failures persist.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 6,000 and current mileage was 27,000.

While driving at night the low beams starting flickering on and off already change out really 35 approx 6 months ago for same problem.

Ongoing issue with the hdm relay #35. I've had to replace this item at least 4-5 times since owning this vehicle. Low beam headlights shut off unexpectedly while driving or sometimes will not shut off. Recently the low beam headlights did not shut off. I smelled something burning in my garage and upon inspection the headlights on the vehicle were on. I opened the fuse panel (burned my hand) removed the melted hdm relay. Allowed everything to cool and replaced it. I shouldn't have to be replacing this item this often! i was lucky it didn't burn my house down!

Was going home after work one night and headlights, and instrument panel turned off by themselves.i could not turn them back on ( i was going 60 on the freeway).i kept driving and they turned on by themselves after about two or three minutes.it got worse as time passed, and now only the high beams work, the low beams do not work at all. Low beam fuses, and low beam relay are all good.no one knows what is wrong with it.also sometimes there is a loud pop sound from the speakers when starting the car up.when this happens it seems there is some type of power surge, and then i have to keep enteringthe correct time and date because it always goes to jan. 1st.. Need all these electrical issues fixed, there is a serious safety hazard involved here.

My 2006 pontiac grand prix experiences headlamps turning off without warning while the vehicle is in motion, and not being able to get them to turn back on again.i drive country roads home from work at night where there are no streetlights and the speed limit is 45-50 mph.this is a serious safety hazard ! ! !it is socially irresponsible for gm to ignore this issue.for some reason 2006 pontiac grand prix is not part of gms product safety recall (recall number: 14291 which only replaces the headlamp driver module hdm fuse). I have had to replace the hdm relay twice already, which only lasts for about 4 months before burning out again.obviously the problem is not just with the fuse but likely with the electrical wiring or the fuse box itself.this serious problem must be investigated more thoroughly before somebody is killed.i did read that 2006 pontiac grand prix was offered an extended warranty program for problems stemming from the headlamp modules for 12 years or 150,000 miles, whichever happens first.unfortunately, the headlamp problem just began for me in 2019 at which point the car was 13 yrs old and was not covered by the extended warranty program or the safety recall, which is simply absurd !at the very least gm should now include the 2006 pontiac grand prix model in the 14291 product safety recall.but gm really needs to release a permanent fix for the problem rather than a temporary fuse replacement every couple months.has anyone investigated if these overheated headlamp driver module relays have caused electrical fires or melted the under hood bussed fusebox?if gm is not willing to step up and take responsibility, i hope we consumers can count on the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) office of defects investigation (odi) to force gm to do the right thing.thank you in advance for looking into this serious matter.

While driving display flashed about 4 alerts, from traction system, abs brakes engine would shut off, and i would lose power steering. This happened around a dozen times in the span of a week. I was able to pull the car over, by using all of my strength on the steering wheel, and shut the car off, then restart it. I had to take it in to the mechanic and they had to replace the computer, and some other parts costing over $800.

Low beams don't work inless they want to n the left turn signal don't work

You can turn the key on and have complete power inside the car the dash everything but no power to the motor. Then you can sometimes turn the key and the car will have three to five second delay cranking. Or you can turn the key off and there's a 3 5 second delay in the car dying. You can be going down the road and the car will die. It takes it 5 to 45 minutes to crank. My friend who is an electrical engineer figured out the issue and added a new wire to supply power to the motor. There is an electrical issue with the key ignition. I need this fixed. I have a two-year-old grandson and i doordash. It happens constantly.

Key turns over but won't start

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While traveling less than 15 mph to enter a drive thru, the steering wheel locked to the right and the vehicle crashed into a wall. The contact had extreme difficulty unlocking the steering wheel and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The contact was able to get the vehicle to restart the next day and it was driven to a repair shop. The insurance company repaired the body work. The ignition switch failure and power steering failure were not inspected or diagnosed. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system), but the contact had not received the recall repair appointment. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09e005000 (steering). A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Soon after purchase, transmission slips gears coming out of a stop. August 2013, transmission dropped out, driving 30mph. Car was not drivable; no gears. Transmission was replaced. Now one year later, slips gears at 40mph. Headlights went out while driving in the dark. Use of turn signals causes high beams to activate. The cabin fan (a/c and heat) never shuts off. Heat works intermittently.car seems to shake at times. Feels like a flat tire but when checked, tires are fine. Car rolls when in park, even on flat surface. Car rolls back when in drive, even on slight inclines. Never certain of brakes; at times, works as normal, other times, pedal must be pushed close to the floor to activate brakes.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

I was driving and my car just stopped this message appeared starting disabled due to electronic throttle control took to dealer they put in new ignition switch drove it about 60 miles did it again took it back they couldn't find any thing wrongwith it lubed the controls now im afraid to drive it cause it happened in the dark we could have been killed cause u have no lights nothingleave it set for some time then it will start but i don't trust it we were on the highway when this happened the last time

Driving down the road early morning or late night my low beams will turn off and come back on 20 minutes later, this is a very big safety issue. I have replaced fuses and everything possible to do with headlights and they still continue to fail. I have had my car looked at by a certified mechanic and they will not mess with it due to the fact that there are to many wiring harnesses. I have read every forum for grand prixs with low beam issues and nothing solves it. This issues needs to be resolved.

After a few minutes of driving the low beam lights will turn off and cannot be turned back on.high beams will work, but low beams cease to operate without warning.problem occurs randomly, operating fine one day and turning off without warning at other unpredictable time frame.

My grandparent gave me the car a few years ago, and i lost power to all functions of headlights. I could not turn them at all, whether the car was stationary or moving. I then replaced a fuse that fixed the problem briefly. After awhile, my headlights began to stay on after i have shut the car off. During this time, my high beams were the only function that worked. Due to this ongoing problem, i have had to replace multiple batteries at least three times. I have done research and the 2007 grand prix models were recalled for this same exact issue. Ifm asking that gm extent the recall to the 2006 model year so this issue, that i have dealing with for years, can finally be resolved.

My car is on the recall list for ignition - which has shut off on me while in drive. Lucky i wasn't in an accident. Now today, i find out the gm fix is a part for my key that stops me from putting another key with it? or you kidding?? a coffee cup, pack of cigs, anything could fly up and hit that key if i have to stomp on the brakes and possibly shut the car off?i just paid this car off... Over $12k. I am beyond disturbed!!!!

When i go to press on the brakes it would pull to the right ,and when i go to put on my signal light to the right my bright lights comes on and when i turn on my heater the door or something the shop toldme was not opening for my heat to come out,and that's the problems i am experiencing, with the pontiac they are excellent cars but has few issues, can you please help with fixing these problems.i've reported the problem three and a half years ago and i have not heard from anyone yet my number is [xxx]thank you for your time.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Engine shuts off in the middle of driving and says starting disabled due to electric throttle control, reduced engine power, abs traction control off. This happens while moving at the correct speed on the highway, stopped at a stop light in the city, and while making turns. Sometimes when it happens i lose power steering and have almost o control of where my car goes. At first this only happened about once a week, but now it can happen up to 10+ times a day

I was driving down the hiway when everything just stopped the lights ,powering steering message on dash said starting disabled due to electronic throttle control took to dealer said i had a short in my iginition so put in a new 1 drove about 60 miles did it again went back they couldnt find nothing wrong with it lubed the controls & now im scared to drive it & cant really afford a new car right now as im on ss why cant they find out whats wrong with it

Bought a "nice" used pontiac grand prix gxp in 2008 (an 06 model). The car only had around 17,000 miles on it. This car has been the biggest money pit ever. I am so disappointed with this vehicle. I have prided myself in buying american made vehicles, but not anymore!first of all, the tire sizing and the price of the tires, ridiculous! the power steering line broke, and of course it wasn't the line that was covered under recall, there has always been a noise in the front end, especially going at a slower speed and over bumps, kind of popping, i've always felt that there was something wrong in the front end. In oct. 2010, the hubs and bearings were replaced, they were still under warranty, but we had to pay a deductible, which was quite a bit, then in july 2011, with 60,000 some odd miles on it, the traction control light, the abs lightcame on, took it to the dealership, they say it's a sensor, in the left hub (that we just had changed, less than a year ago), the warrant had ran out on it, so we paid almost 500 to replace that, then surprise, surprise, it has happened again the lights are back on! also, sometimes when i accelerate at say a stop sign or stop light, there's sort of a "grabbing" and the car doesn't want to go, like it could be the transmission slipping. These are actually just a few of the things that i've had go wrong, there's been odds and ends things that of course have cost a fortune to fix, everything on this car is...oh, the tie rod end, that was something else that had to be replaced...i could go on and on money pit. I want to get rid of it, but it's one of those things, i've got too much invested in it..i'd never get out of it what i need..no wonder they no longer produce pontiacs. From the things i've read, it seems that i am not the only person who has had trouble out of this vehicle. It seems as though there should have been alot more recalls.

Engine dies abruptly without warning at any speed leaving the driver without brakes or power steering; very dangerous down hill, on curves, changing lanes, at signals, at stops, during t;urns, etc.

Bad engine had while driving almost caused an accident bad knocking noise within the motor do to faulty parts mechanic says a part failed while driving car starts but has bad noise within the engine and now vehicle is rendered useless.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the electronic throttle and reduced engine power warning messages illuminated on the instrument panel.

Vehicle was stationary, had been parked approximately 10 minutes.the vehicle caught fire and was a total loss.the cause is unknown, but we believe it has something to due with the recall about grand prix's catching fire.

I brought this car january 12th 2015 the next week i had to take it to the shop to get work done to the engine i got it back it ran goodfor like an month and i had to take to a different shop and they told me i need a new engine and my warranty company didn't want to cover it so i had to pay to get my after the warranty company said they would pay to get it fix that was almost 1500 for nothing i had to pay another 700 for engine and on july 27th 2015 the transmission stop going into drive and the lowest price i have for that is 2500 this alot of money to be making payments on and online all i am seeing is bad reviews of this car i need to know is there anything that can be done about this because this is ridiculous.

My car began to emit white smoke and an odor of burning antifreeze. I began to lose power so i pulled over.i had my car towed to the garage and they replace my intake manifolds gaskets, which had completely been eaten away.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving approximately 45 mph, the battery warning indicator illuminated and white smoke appeared from the hood. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 228,000. The vin was not provided.

Vehicle uses excessive oil, "oil level low" light will come on 1,500-2000 miles after oil changes.oil dipstick will show no oil when it reaches this point.has occured regularly with this vehicle.

While driving car shuts off "dic" states " starting disabled due to throttle control. Reduced engine power". I took it to mccarthy dealership in lees summit mothey supposedly fixed recall-key only but the recall#14350 states "dealers will install 2 key rings & an i insert in the key slot or a coner over the key head on all ignition keys" it ran ok for a while then started doing it again. Took it back 12/8/2016 & was told to do a diagnostic ck it would cost 130. Was told the recall was for the keys only not the ignition.my daughter drives this car too it stop running in the mistake of an intersection. Please help

I was driving home from work and when i turned a corner, the engine cut out. I believe it was from the key flipping to accessory.i've heard that this has caused crashes that have killed people and would like this fixed. This is the first time it happened, but now i'm worried every time i drive it that this is going to happen and i don't feel safe letting my wife drive the car now.why are the 2006 pontiac grand prix vehicles not part of the recall from gm?

Driving on the interstate going about 65 mpg when all of a sudden i lost all engine power and the engine stalled. Check engine light came on and traction control system remained on. Pulled over and shut off the engine. Restarted the engine, lights remained on and was only able to go about 15 mph. Had to drive it very carefully about 10 miles into the next town. No shops were open at that time of night. Had to stay the night and took it into a shop the next morning. Error code said that the mass air flow sensor was bad. Replaced and drove it around for about 5 miles. Seemed to be running ok. Drove not even 60 miles and the same thing happened again. Took it into a sister repair shop and they replaced the other part of the mass air flow sensor. Was able to drive to my destination and back with no real issues. Here it is 7 months later and driving on the interstate again when the same issue happens. Check engine light came on and traction control light came on. Was able to get off the side of the road but this time. I couldn't even get it to drive 3 feet. Sat on the side of the interstate for 2 hours at night waiting for a tow truck to come get me. Got it into a shop the next morning and same issues. Needed a new mass air flow sensor. Replace and picked up but then the engine started getting really hot. Watched the transmission fluid go from 108 to 258 degrees in a matter of minutes. Pulled off the road and watched the fluid bubble out of the overflow. Got the engine to cool down a bit. Started it and drove 4 miles and the same codes came up and the engine did the same thing. Had the car towed back to the shop and was told that the computer needed to be replaced. Did that and it now surges upon start up. The super charger is not registering as being either hooked up or working now. I am being told that there are several issues that could be causing this.

I have had this car for 5 years without really any problems. I get oil changed regularly and fluids checked at same time. A couple of days ago i noticed that my car seemed to get hot and the temp gauge was about 3/4 way to hot.the next day i drove to work which is about 16 miles and had no problems.i was coming back from my lunch break and my car all of sudden had bells going off and said my a/c shut off for engine protection and my temp gauge was half in the red.i drove straight to the mechanic.he looked at vehicle and told me the intake manifold gasket and few other gaskets went bad and had water coming out everywhere.i have never had any problems of this sort in any of the other vehicles i have owned and have driven them to 170000 miles plus.this is the first time i have bought any other vehicle besides a ford taurus.i have read several complaints about this happening to others and gm wont do anything about it.this just makes me think that i will never buy gm again because of poor quality and not caring about customers.

My car started on fire while on a city road because of the power steering pump pulley completely sprung off serpentine belt melted coolant reservoir melted fuse box be melted from the fire how many other things something to do with the power steering pump leaking fluid and hitting my exhaust causing a fire in my car

Were traveling and without warning the car stopped running and we were on a very busy highway and barely were able to get off the road and out of traffic area.had to have the car towed (this expense i think gm should be responsible for now that there is a recall.also, how can they justify that we wait until october 1st to have their goof-up repaired.at times it is difficult to even get the key in the ignition to start the engine.

Engine compartment caught on fire.

I was on an interstate heading home in the rain. Traffic was moving about 10 mph. I tried to accelerate, but i didn't go anywhere.my car died and the entire dashboard was blank-no lights at all. I was able to get to the shoulder of the interstate. I put the car in park, shut if off, and it restarted with no problem. Has not occurred before. Obviously, a very dangerous situation to be in.

The events leading up to the failure, > the gmc manufacture failure to provider adequate coolant to the vehicle. The manufacture is already aware of the issues and fails to admit or correct the problem from occurring to unaware motorist. The issue is the dexcool coolant that destroying the car performance, radiator, water pumps and main fold gaskets. Once this damage has started, there is no stopping it. The car is a complete lemon and it is too late or expensive to fix the damage. There has been a class action law suit on various gm models due to this dex cool issue. Unless you know about the issues and research them, this can be happening to you as a gm car owner/lesser and you would not know it. The gmc dealers down play the problems you explain to them and blame the driver or just weather conditions and state" this is normal and it just happens sometimes. Thisshould be against the law and review further because nobody should have to go through this horror. Themain problem is that you don't know that your creating damage to your car because you are just driving and then one day you get a message on the dash board that the car is over heating. You do not know why, hoe or even what would cause this. By this time its too late. The radiator, water hoses and main fold gaskets have been all damaged by this acid eating dexcool component and then its financially the drivers fault to pay out of pocket expenses, ranging from ($400-$4000+). I am a single mother who purchase a new vehicle so i would not havethe problems of being broke down on the road or havinga used car with some one else's problems. I am no stuck with a damage 2006 grand prix, car note for the grand prix $400, insurance for the damage grand prix $300 and repair cost so far est. $3200.i can not even use or drive the car until i find a way to pay to fix something i did not know was happening.this can not and should not be allowed.

I have a 2006pontiac grand prix gxp, purchased brand new and never had any problems with my headlights except for them being replaced after the burned out. I don't drive my car very much at all. I only have 53000 miles on it. Just in the last two years i never really know about my head lights going in and out. The low beams would stop working for periods of time and i really didn't know because i don't drive much at night, then just recently they started on and off all the time, but during the daytime the running lights worked and the high beams worked fine. I was told that it might be the hdm relay, i replaced it and it still didn't work and now money is starting to get wasted. I did some research online to see if anyone else was having this same issue and i was totally surprised to find several people had or is having the same issue. I was told about a recall that consumers were trying to get gm it identify this problem. The recall number i was provided was recall # is 14291. I searched for this number and any recalls that might pertain to this and couldn't find recalls since the ignition switch involving the key. Is there anything being done or investigating this problem? my headlights have been going off for 2 years and i'm trying see if someone could pinpoint the problem.

After a few minutes of driving the low beam lights will turn off and cannot be turned back on.high beams will work, but low beams cease to operate without warning.problem occurs randomly, operating fine one day and turning off without warning at other unpredictable time frame.

Bought the car in january the low beam will not work have replaced bulbs and multi function switch

While driving at night the low beams starting flickering on and off already change out really 35 approx 6 months ago for same problem.

In june 2015, traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour straight on a highway at night. The low-beam headlights went out. After pulling over and stopping, i attempted to get the headlights to work by trying and re-trying the headlight switches. I discovered the high-beam headlights did work and proceeded using my high beams. Intermittently i tried reverting back to low beams and, after about 15 miles, low-beam function returned. However, twice more before my 50-mile trip was completed, the low-beam headlights failed, forcing me to revert to high-beams for several miles. Since that time, this low-beam failure has occurred approximately ten times.

My vihicle turns off the low beams when i am driving and i can have an accident

The bright lights stay on, my horn doesn't work, the instrument codes will blink off and on.. There is a windshield wiper motor that causes a power surge that blows out the blower motor to go out.. It has burn marks..

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the headlights failed without warning. The high beams work intermittently and completely failed when the blinkers were engaged. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they were unable to find a failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Low beam headlight failure.55,000 on a garage kept vehicle.wife returning from funeral services when the headlights went out on an unlighted roadway at 55mph.the event caused a panic and nearly lost control.the failed part that caused this is gm#15016745 and readily available at auto parts stores for 35-50 dollars.gm did recall a mess of gm products for the defective part.in conversation with gm they have yet to offer to replace my part with the $300 replacement part under that recall nor offer to take action to recall the part itself.how many unknowing people are exposed daily to this risk daily?

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving 35 mph, the low beam headlights became inoperable. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The failure occurred when driving over bumps in the road. The vehicle was taken to graff chevrolet (located at 3636 wilder rd, bay city, mi 48706, (989) 391-5231) where it was diagnosed that the lighting module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after two months. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 290,000.

While driving at night, on a busy road, the headlights simply went off.after trying to turn them back on without success, we had to continue driving with the high beam headlights on to get home.the next day the headlights worked. This continues to happen periodically.sometimes, the headlights will not come on from a cold start.other times, the headlights flash off and on while driving.this is a critical safety issue.

I'm seeing a lot of cars on the highway running with headlights on but no tail lights on. I'm assuming this is due to the "day time running lights" on various cars. Either they are defective or the operators have the daytime running lights on and they think the regular lights are on. This is surely causing accidents and should be investigated.

Low beams went out , when i got home and turned off car, i noticed smoked coming from under hood of car my relay fuse box was on fire ,low beam relay was melted. Pontiac says there are no recalls on this carbut there seems to be alot of people with the same problem.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the headlights failed without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle needed to be restarted in order for the headlights to reactivate. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed but the dealer could not determine a remedy. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000. The vin was not available.

Low beams shut off randomly while driving and won't come back on, even if you try to turn them on manually. The high beams will work and the fog lights work. It seams to happen alot when it is raining, and when it is warm outside. Doesn't seem to happen as much when it is cold. Have replaced the multifunction switch and checked the grounds associated with the lights. Have also checked relays, fuses. Am currently checking wire connections and tracing down wires from power source thru to all areas associated with lights. After that, the last stop is the vehicle body control module. Is getting to be very expensive and time consuming. The safety hazard, in my opinion is huge due to the fact that you can't turn on manually when they go out.

Low beams don't work inless they want to n the left turn signal don't work

The headlights keep turning off/on at night on their own, whether i'm driving or stationary, if it were not for the fog lights on the car i would not have been able to see!this has been going on for a month now!i would like to know if this issue needs to be a recall and what can i do about getting this issue resolved without paying for it out of pocket?

I own a 2006 pontiac grand prix.when driving at night the headlights go out and the headlamps suggested indicator goes on.this happens when i have the lights on auto or manual.the lights don't come back on even when i try to turn them on using the light controls on the steering column. The lights will stay off for 15-30 seconds then come back on.this happens on dark roads, in town and on the highway.this has happened at least a dozen times. Now when i drive at night the lights will flicker.no accidents yet but i am nervous to drive the vehicle at night.i have taken the vehicle to the dealer twice now and they can't find a problem.

The low beams on our 2006 grand prix go out with out warning while driving. We do have high beam lights.the vehicle is moving when the lights go out. It happened on the highway and on city streets. There is no warning when it will happen. It has happened a number of times but will come back on could be hours or day before they start working again. When i take it to the shop it is working and they can't find the problem.

The headlamps of the vehicle intermittently turn off while one (either with the daytime running lights on, or the lights manually turned on). This is only low-beams.i received a notice from gm/pontiac that they will cover the replacement, however, it's only if it's under 150,000.if this is a known issue, it should be covered under a recall, regardless of the mileage (ours is almost 199,000).the lights first turned off while i was idling at a gas station.they turned back on sometime days after that when we first drove it again at night.i was less than 2 miles from home when this first happened..the next time we noticed this, we were about 15 miles from home, driving for about 10 minutes, and the headlights turned off as we were driving.we had to drive with the high-beams on.we got about 3 miles down the road and we were the only ones on the road.i turned off the high beams and the low beams were back to working.this is clearly a safety issue, and should be covered, since they acknowledge the issue, regardless of mileage.

My power steering went out and when you try to go over 40 the car lunges forward and has a hard time shifting and will continue while in cruise control. I already had work done on the fuel line cause the line was clogged and the vehicle would lunge forward cause the fuel wasn't getting pushed through. My power steering went out after my boyfriend parked it. He only noticed it when he tried driving away and he couldn't turn the wheel like usual. The cruise control does its thing while in motion. Also the headlamps! the brights stay on, you have to hold the dimmer switch back to get the brights to turn off but if you let go of the switch they turn on and flash people. It only turns off when turning left. The ac compressor blew too. I had bought the vehicle 3 years ago during the winter so it was blowing cold air, but when summer hit is when i noticed it was only blowing air from outside into the cab. The heater works, but the ac doesn't. My boyfriend was driving home recently and couldn't move the steering wheel and almost had a head on collision because of the power steering. The power steering happened in town at his place of work and had to drive on the highway to come home. The cruise happens on the highway. The headlamps is a constant thing, we pulled the fuse that controls the brights and the dims worked just fine, but it's hard to drive at night without brights.

While driving in the dark with auto low beams on, and on a highway the lights would just turn off. The parking lights stayed on, and high beams still worked. When i would turn the switch there was no change. I had to drive with the fog lights on. Then about a mile down the road they turned back on. This has happened several times and at different speeds. Now, the low beams will not come on at all. Several posts online suggest replacing relay #35(low beam relay) and that fixes the problem, but then many other people post having fires at relay #35 shortly after replacing it. There are swarms of posts online of people having issues with low beams unexpectedly turning off, and this should be addressed. I don't know if i should replace the part, because of the risk of fires.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving 55 mph, the headlights suddenly failed. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hdm relay overheated and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred where the fuse box was burned and caused a fire. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who replaced the fuse box, the hdm relay, and battery, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 153,000. Djr

I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix gt. 3 yrs. Ago, 75 mph on freeway at night, low beam headlights go out.brights still work. After the car sat overnight, lights came back on. This happened off and on for several months. Diagnostics could not detect problem. New steering column and lightswitch was installed. Worked for a while, then started again. Last night it did it, so i read online to replace #35 relay in fuse box because tons of people were having same problem. It works for today. Thousands of people are having problem with this on the 06 thru 08 grand prix. Also reports of fuse boxes starting on fire. My car was extremely hot last night after being turned off for 2 hours. Love this car, except it is very dangerous to not have lights in nighttime driving!

Having same issue as others on this website in regards to 2006 pontiac grand prix headlights.i have been driving and all of a sudden headlights will shut off.can be off for 20 to 30 minutes then kick on again, or here recently doesn't come back on at all.i have replaced the fuses, headlights and switches.my car is currently in the shop to replace the switch again for the second time in less than 2 years.

Dave cross motors would not assist said until lights failed.mcarthy very helpful but still have not got parts in since may 26th- lights are malfunctioning. Why send recall warning of danger if nobody wants to fix it or unable to get parts in.

When i'm driving the lights will go off sometimes they'll come back on and sometimes they stay off!the automatic lights do not come on sometimes when the ignition is turned on...i changed the dimmer switch twice and the lights still do not work even if i turn them on manually.

Headlights started off jumping when driving. Then when parked starting car sometimes headlights would come on and times it would not. I would have to turn on high beams to get headlights on to stay on. Then that didn't work any more. Now headlights are gone and dash board light are also out.

2006 pontiac grand prix low beam headlight failed during night time driving ,almost caused a crash. Took vehicle to dealer and problem was failure of the low beam headlight relay. Have seen this same failure many times in the past on the same make and year car. Vehicle has only 40,000 miles. Old parts not available.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While operating the vehicle, the low beam headlights suddenly shut off. The contact indicated that the lights illuminated, but then shut off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.

While drive at night the low-beans just stop working. Fog & hi-bean still work. Was not able to get low-beans to work.the next day, the low-beasn would come on & off randonly.was noaqt able to lights to work manually.

2006 gm grand prix. Consumer states problem with vehicle headlights *tgwthe consumer stated the headlights went out while driving in a rural area. The consumer exited off the highway and turned off the engine. After 10 minutes, she started the vehicle again and only the high beam lights came on. The next day, the consumer called an auto parts store and they suggested replacing a relay part.

I have 36,378 miles on my 2006 pontiac grand prix and have taken it into the shop for rotors 2 times now.they have turned the rotors but the brakes are still not right and now of course its out of warranty.i have never had a problem with rotors in my life.this is not normal wear.i also have a gas tank problem when i fill it up, it will overflow.the service provider (osbournes in dubois, pa) say they can't get it to do it but it happens to me everytime i fill up the tank.

Low beams don't work inless they want to n the left turn signal don't work

The transmission failed and needs to be replaced.

The transmission bangs into gear and the speedometer goes crazy. At times the car will not start. I have spent over 3k on this fix, with three different auto repair service centers, without it being resolved. The last repair service replaced the ecm (electronic control module), which seemed to fix the issue for about 2 weeks, then it started again. I took it back to the repair place who said he cleaned the condensation from the wires, and it worked again for about 3 days. I let the car sit for 4 days, and drove fine again, for about 26 miles. It seems that no matter where i bring my car to, everyone cannot repair it because the codes provided by the computer, don't fix the problem when the parts are replaced. I know it isn't the transmission, because i had it replaced with a rebuilt transmission since this was one of the diagnosis. I am at my wits end with this issue. I cannot trade the car in because i am an honest person, and don't want to sell car that i know has an issue.

Steering: clicking noise when turningtransmission has a light slip into 1st and sometimes hard shift into 2nd had this looked at in 2013 while it was still under warranty and the dealer didn't want to acknowledge there was a problem. This should be under recall since more people have this same problem.

When taking off from a stop, the transmission harshly jerks into first gear. Sometimes when coming from a stop, it feels the same as a manual transmission - holding the clutch down. I have had a few close calls as the car sometimes fails to give out full power from a stop. I am afraid that i will get into an accident because of this. Gm cannot find any problem.

I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix gxp, i have had all the maintenance done on this car since i owned it.the transmission went out on this car at 80,000 miles and from what i have been reading this has been a problem with all the gxp's that have comeout and gm is not willing to recall this problem or even fix the problem they know about.gm should take responsibility and fix this for each customer.i have seen where people have bought the car and at 39000 miles the transmission is slipping.this is very poor customer service by gm and they should have to have all the gxp models recalled and the transmissions replaced.thank you

The contact owned a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that whenever he drove the vehicle, the transmission slipped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The transmission failed.was told this was a problem that occurs in gm cars.should be recall on cars in transmission that failed.cost $1200 to repair.

While driving my car on street i was struck on the passenger side in a intersection when a chevy maxi van struct me when running a red light. My airbag did not deploy and my vehicle was totalled. I sustained body injuries such as back and neck and financial hardship. I have never recovered from these injuries.

I am adding my transmission failure to this data base. This is a one owner car and driven with care. The transmission failed at appromimately 5 years and at 55,045 miles . This cost $4,343 to replace with a srta transmission so i could get home from vacation. Why is nothing being done about the numerous transmission failure complaints? my car now has 80k miles and i feel as if i am close to losing the transmission again. I have the invoice to back up this claim.

Currently on my third transmission. Second transmission was rebuilt, then replaced. Car currently has 91k on it.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving approximately 70 mph, the transmission began to slip gears and violently jerked. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

4t65e-hd automatic transmission failure.car does not engage any gear to include reverse.according to general motors, this transmission is rated to handle 280 pound feet of torque.however, it was mounted in a vehicle (2006 grand prix gxp) which by general motors' own admission makes 323 pound feet of torque.therefore, by general motors' own admission, the transmission they selected for this vehicle was never designed to handle the motor to which of was mated.max torque for this vehicle occurs at just 3800 rpm.it would seem then that an individual would not need to be engaging in hard or abusive driving to exceed the design specification of this transmission.

The transmission is slipping as i have seen many others with this same complaint however one dealership says they cant find issue. They drove for only 2 miles. It is a serious issue. Currently at a gm dealership to solve issue. However gm knows about this faulty issue and refuses to issue a recall after many have spent thousands to fix transmissions! i am next this is terrible. What if it completely goes while i have my family in the car? are they then going to fix? gm needs to stand behind the consumer and fix this issue.

Transmission started slipping over 70mph. Rpms began to fluctuate sporadically. Based on other posts looks like the tranny is going out. Bought it from [xxx] 2yrs ago and was told tranny had been replaced so i felt confident buying the car with 90k b/c pontiacs have historically been great cars.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I've had to replace the transmission at 67k miles, and it went out on me again at 110k miles.i replaced the transmission at not only a gm certified dealership, but a pontaic dealership (john hine pontaic) in san diego.the transmission was a gm certified refurbish from canada.no recalls from gm, and no reimbursement policy.this is an issue.

The vehicle without warning would not drive forward after coming to a complete stop at a stop light.the engine would rev up but would not go forward.ended up having to put the transmission in park and turn the car off, then started the car again and put the transmission in drive and the vehicle would drive as if everything was ok until i stopped the next time.i would have to repeat this every time i came to a stop.no error code or transmission sign of a problem.

Got my gxp in 2-12-10 with 41000 miles on it. Transmission went out in 56000 miles. Cost 2500 to fix now with 89000 miles the transmission is slipping again. I loved gm cars and if they don't recall this soon. I will be going to dodge hemi power.

As i'm driving on the highway and i reach a speed of 70 mph or higher, the rpm's start to jump around and can feel the car kicking in and out of over drive. At first it started doing it going up a hill or incline on the highway but as time has gone on the problem has gotten worse and now does it even on straight, flat roads. I got on edmonds website and posted the problem on there asking if anybody knows what's wrong with it and how to fix it. I got people replying back to me saying that it is my transmission and they have had the same problem and gmc will not help them pay for or repair it. There are probably a 100 people that i know of alone that are having the same problem. I think this should be looked into, it could become a safety issue and not only that, gmc should be held responsible for making and selling defective equipment to the public and refusing to fix the problem. Something needs to be done, but no matter what happens i will never buy another gmc vehicle!!!!!

Looked at transmission temperature gauge to see the trans temp was 208 degrees. The car was recalled for a trans line replacement which was done. This did not fix the problem. Now when car is cold i feel slippage when giving the car gas going up an incline. If you go to edmounds.com you will be able to see this is a common problem. Many people are having this problem. The trans line that was replaced has a few fins build into the line. This does not help the transmission stay any cooler. 208 degrees is way to hot for a transmission to be run and hold up. It burns up this torque converter up then takes the transmission out. Please help as this is costly to have a torque converter and transmission rebuilt. I was told a trans cooler would fix the problem. Thank you

While driving to work in my pontiac grand prix gxp one morning i came to a stoplight. Car was running normal. I went to leave the light and the car did not move. The engine would just rev up. I was almost rear ended because when the light turned green i let off the brake and pressed the gas and i did not move. I thought i may have knocked the transmission into neutral but i looked down and the car was in drive. This is when i realized i was the next victim of the gm ls4 4t65e-hd combo kit. I was stuck at the light in the middle most lane. I put my hazards on.cars had to go around me, and i could have gotten hit. Being dead in the water sort of speak, i waited for the road to clear and i checked if i had reverse. I did luckily, and i was able to back my car into the parking lot a half a block back. This was a dangerous situation for any driver. I have always been a gm fan but this car is changing my mind. It would not be so bad if gm would take responsibility, and fix their defective transmission problem.

The transmission is constantly slipping in and out of overdrive. It is still doing this after a 2nd transmission flush. The first was done before 50k miles. Then second was done recently. This is still an issues. Both times there were no metal shavings found during the change.

2006 pontiac grand prix gxp. Total transmission failure at 110k. This is a family vehicle which was purchased new. All service maintained, never even close to being abused and this transmission should be well within its life. As i have read, these transmissions are basically(supposedly) a beefed up version of the transmission used in the 3.8l models. It is same as used in the impala ss, where many many failures have occurred. Completely failed at 110k. Took into dealership on a monday, they ran diagnostics, test drive it twice could not find any issue. Vehicle towed in 24 hours later, with a complete trans. Failure. It started all of a sudden, would not shift properly, hard shifts, then would skip gears, then would not go into reverse, then would not engage at all. This is a very serious issue that deserves a recall. Only real option is to replace with a factory rebuilt transmission. Obviously gm will not do a voluntary recall, they are making too much on the sale of rebuilt transmissions.

I have a 2006 pontiac grandprix gxp that i purchased new and as of 5-28-13 i have driven only 54000 miles when on 5-28-13 after coming to a complete stop at a traffic light i turned right and the car only began to crawl into oncoming traffic.thankfully i didn't cause an accident as the left lane was open to swerve around me, but needless to say the cars where beeping and swerving to avoid me as i could only go 5mph.later that day i drove the car slowly to the dealership just for them to tell me the transmission has failed. I would think it should last alot if not double the 54000 miles i currently have on the vehicle and it would cost me 3500 to replace!! after being frustrated and thinking what if the left lane was not open, where would i be then, doing some research there are tons if not all of the gxp version of the pontiac grandprix with the same exact issue, how come there's not an recall, this can definitely cause an accident as you cannot accelerate with no pre warning signs, as i experienced a near miss.

Transmission failed on march of 2012 bad torque converter the whole transmission had to be rebuilt and just failed again on sept 22/2012 last repair in march costwas $2800 this transmission has less then 6000 miles since being rebuilt and failed againpontiac 2006 grand prix gxp 5.3 engine.

Just that my car was jerking down the highway.....come to find out bad transmission in these cars.i haven't had it fixed because i don't have the money.so i will keep driving it until it just goes out or hopefully someone steals it.piece of junk car and gm knows it.i talked to them and they said out of warranty.i knew they would say this but i wanted to tell them i will never buy gm again.i also have to see a chiropractor now maybe because of all the jerking.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix gxp. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle decreased speed and lost power. The vehicle was inoperable and no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was with the transmission, which was not suitable for the engine size. The dealer was notified who stated that in order to diagnose a test on the vehicle, the vehicle had to be towed to an authorized dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who filed a case on the contact's behalf (case number: 71-1090706145). The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 85,000.

The transmission slips & stalls during normal operation. Burns excessive amounts of transmission fluid. Steering while making sharp turns, causes moderate front end vibration. 2006 pontiac grand prix, sedan. Excessive engine heat.

Transmission failure. Torque converter clutch failure causing the transmission to fail.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled upon depressing the brake pedal with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

This is an issue it felt like someone hit us from behind and yet no one was there. Started driving and the next thing we know the car speedometer just slows down to 30 mph. Luckily was able to get out of high speed lane before an 18 wheeler smashing into the rearend and would have killed my two kids!! this is bull crap pontiac gm will not do anything about it!! this happened with a gm envoy that i purchased. I should have known better to purchase another gm product. There are way too many complaints regarding the transmission and steering for gm not to do anything about this this issue, the worst is they know about and will not do anything about it. Some people do not have that kind of money to just crap out and continue to crap out for a known issue!

On more than one occasion, my car hesitated after stopping at an red light. Upon take off while other cars are behind me if feels like my car gears are stuck . I initially thought perhaps it was the weather or maybe my brakes . No, not the problem because my brakes have been checked and the weather is not always a culprit, i even have new tires . The problem is very scary when your grandchildren are buckle up in the back seat and your car hesitate, transmission slipping not changing gears. This has happened far to many times for my comfort and safety of myself and my family. Additionally, there also been times when the fan stop during this time. Both in the summer with the air blowing and just today (11/12/14), with the heat blowing everything stopped intermittently, what is going on with this car!the problem has onlygotten increasinglyworst.

The transmission slips and bangs bad after driving around 65 mph then slowing down and turning on an off ramptrans fluid temp is about 195 degrees at time of incident.this slip happens in low gears sometimes as well after driving around on short trips.also, replaced gear shift sprague lock something two times already.also the ac heater fan motor has burned out ,now new one works intermittently.

Auto transmission is shifting hard and slipping. Shifts hard from 3 to 4 and will slip just driving down road at road speed. Getting worse day by day, and much worse when cold. Started as a whinning noise about a month ago. I have been told by gm dealer that transmission will probably need rebuilt. I am original owner, car has never been driven hard.

2006 pontiac gxp, december 2013 transmission starting slipping on interstate near charlotte north carolina.car transmission then completely stopped working, no forward or reverse.car has 86,000 miles on odometer.vehicles towed to virginia. Had vehicle transmission checked by gm and private auto shop, no codes found, both said trans got hot and burned up.no local trans shops will rebuild the transmission due to repeat failures.

I been having problems with the transmission, it slips and getsto hot, in a normal trip to work o the mall etc, if i drive for 30- 40 mints, it reach up to 240 degrees, i think is a car defect, when i bought the car the transmission died and the dealer replace the transmission, but even though it was a new trans. It also run to hot, i called gmc and they denied any transmission problems.

The initial issue that i noticed was when i was driving at 70mph at about 2000 rpms the rpms would jump up about 300 rpms when i would drive at a steady speed, just flat ground.it got worse and more frequent as a month went on, so i then brought to a gm dealership and they decided to do a transmission service (fluid and filter) and inspect what they could, everything "looked good".now since then this issue has been resolved but the transmission slips and slams into gear, when i am in stop and go traffic or hitting a lot of stop lights, engine temp. Does seem to get a little high, even my mechanic thought so.when it slips it feels as if i hit a giant pothole and the engine/transmission is going to fall out.but this problem is so intermittent no one can pin point the problem, i have had three different mechanics look at this issue and one transmission shop.i have all of this and can't seem to resolve the issue, and not to forget to mention since i have owned the car since 2006, it has never shifted smoothly from first to second gear (when i accelerate from a stop light/sign).i like gm, but when this issue is all over the internet and gm hasn't done anything about it, i am starting to second guess my decision on vehicle manufacture.

My mechanic insisted that i needed to change my transmission fluid in order to keep the transmission running efficiently.i believed him and had it done.from that time, my transmission has been slipping from 1st to second gear.then i was told my car could use a tune up and that would correct the problem?had a tune up in january 2014.the trans does not slip all the time, but when i am in traffic (stop and go) it will slip slightly.i take good care of my vehicles keeping up with the maintenance. I see other complaints very similar to mine and feel that general motors needs to be responsible for this problem with the transmissions. Now, what does it take to get a response on this situation?the way i feel now is that i will never own a general motors vehicle if there is no resolution to this problem.

I bought this automobile brand new ($32,000) from haley pontiac in june of 2006. While driving with my grandchildren in the car the transmission failed completely in traffic. The car only has 86,859 mile on it. I contacted both gm and gmc and they deny any wrong doing or even partial reimbursement. After doing research on the internet i have found over 2000 people who hadthe same issue. Gmc knew when they made this vehicle that the transmission was not compatible with the cars v8 5.3 litre engine but sold it anyway. Also since they knew the issues that would arise this make and model came without the 100k powertrain warranty (which they had before and resumed in 2007). I'm really curious with all the complaints why hasn't this car been recalled and repaired prior to consumers having to pay over $3000 for new transmissions (to gmc service departments). What will it take for someone to hold them accountable and treat consumers fairly? does it actually take a death from the faulty mechanical issue? or perhaps a class action lawsuit? i'm not certain but i truly believe that my complaint as well as all the others out there (i'm certain some have already been sent to you) should be grounds enough for an investigation as well as a recall. I plan on pursing this matter by writing to both the state attorney offices as well as the president of gm. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint.

My transmission has not failed completely as of yet, but i am experiencing a lot of problems with it.the car shudders violently during acceleration. Sometimes more severe than others. Very noticeable loss of power. Had the transmission serviced and the fluid was almost black and there was a excessive amount of metal or tcc material in the bottom of the pan. Car just reached 65,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix.while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle jerked and then stalled at a traffic light.she shifted the gear into park in order to restart the vehicle.afterwards, the vehicle would not accelerate past ten mph.the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and they stated that the transmission was defective.the vehicle was repaired.approximately two months later, she noticed a loud noise and her vehicle was driven to a local repair shop.the mechanic informed her that there was a hole in the water pump that needed to be replaced.four months later, the windows would not roll down.the vehicle was driven to a local repair shop and the mechanic reviewed a diagram of the vehicle.the diagram stated that the fuse for the window was not located in the proper place.the window has not been repaired.the dealer stated that the failure was not under warranty.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was 50,000 and failure mileage was 45,000.

I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix gxp with the 5.3l v8 engine. The car has less than 104,000 miles on it and the transmission does not always engage first gear when attempting to accelerate from a stop. When first gear finally engages it does so with a very physical banging feeling. Also, the transmission shifts extremely slowing from 2nd to 3rd gear at times. This is a major safety hazard when attempting to pull out in traffic, if you are giving yourself enough time to make a turn, and the transmission will not engage, and then forcefully does so, it could cause an accident that results in injury or even death.i know that my car is only one of very many w-body v8's that have/are experiencing transmission problems. We are forced to spend our money and hurt our credit to fix a transmission that should never have been put in the car to begin with. American cars should be built better than this! if the government won't hold gm accountable for this mess, more consumers will have the same problems that i and many others are experiencing.

No major events leading up to the failure, just average city/highway driving with little to no aggressive acceleration. Regular maintenance is always taken care of. The transmission in my 2006 grand prix gxp, with 88,000km, likes to slip every now and then and sometimes fails to accelerate until it the rpms reach about 1800, then it finally catches and pulls hard. This does not happen all the time, but i'm worried the transmission is taking damage everytime it does occur, and may eventually lead to a failure, possibly resulting in a crash. Nothing has been done yet to fix the problem, as it only happens a few times week, and my powertrain warranty has expired. I've done some research, and judging by my sources, the transmission mated to the 5.3l ls4 va front drive gm vehicles is rated at 280lb-ft of torque, while the motor is clearly advertised at 323lb-ft of torque.thank you for your time.

Transmission shudder at cruising speeds. Delay when leaving from dead stop. Car slams into gear hard. Grinding/crushing sound. *ln

I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix gxp. I started having transmission problems last december. The car shudders horribly around 50 mph. Had the car to a few different gm dealerships. One claims they didn't find anything wrong. The other one felt the problem, replaced a solenoid and car continued to do it. At this point they claim there is nothing wrong even though the shudder is still there. Car was under warranty til march. No longer under warranty and is getting worse. I know of over 150 people with w-body v8 gm cars that have experienced trans. Problems. Why hasn't there been a federal investigation???? i guess it may be because of the gm bailout? nhtsa, please launch an investigation and a recall!!!!! i guess you'll just wait until it causes more accidents and deaths! good job morons!! thanks for looking out for the people!

Approx. One week of transmission trying to kick into next gear, then one day (after about 4 days of this occurring) transmission completely died. Able to put into drive but trans was not communicating with wheels (per onstar diagnostic report). Had to be towed to dealer who said that there were "several notes on computer system" and that the fluid was "burnt beyond recognition." had car towed to a different shop w/ ase certified mechanic who said that while trans. Fluid was a little burnt, was not that bad. Either way, a new transmission is going to have to be put into car and there is a chance of this happening again. Pontiac/gm is aware of problem due to tsb's being put out for problem, but no recall has been issued yet. Refuse to purchase a 3-4k transmission for this problem to probably happen again before 60k miles.

2006 pontiac grand prix gxp transmission failure at 60,000 and 100,000 miles.

We have a 2006 grand prix gxp. The sight and sound of this machine is wonderful. The transmission issues make me want to drive this car up gm's, well u get the picture. It slams into first from a stop, slipswhen accelerating, and it has less than 70,000 miles on it. I have had this car into the dealer three times for the same problem while under warranty. One "overhaul" and two diagnostic checks later the problem is still there. The fluid was changed at 47,000 miles. I have heard it is a pressure valve problem but this fix will be on my dime, as it is out of warranty now. Way to go gm, another victim here.

Vehicle driven for 60,000 miles -95% highway miles.complete transmission failure - slipping and unable to drive, and oil pouring on ground.walk home failure on highway.pontiac representative indicated that this was "normal wear.

I was just informed by the dealership on april 3 2010 that my transmission needs to be replaced in my 2006 grand prix, which i purchased new. This is a very disturbing discovery being that my car was brand new at the time of purchase and now needs an entirely new transmission. The incident that occurred which prompted me to take my car to the dealership happened appx 2 weeks ago when i tried to press the gas pedal and the car would not accelerate. Luckily, i was on a side street and not on a major highway which would have caused serious incidents. This is the only time this has happened and i have received no notifications through onstar that there is a problem with my transmission. So, i am concerned about this issue and wondered where i can seek assistance.

My car slams into gear from a dead-stop. It grinds very loudly when then tcc is applied. Shifts hard and shakes very violently, sometimes to the point where it is almost undrivable. Gm dealer refuses to acknowledge the problem because they don't want to fix it. They claimed the grinding noise is a tick or rattle caused by timing chain for the displacement on demand when the engine goes from 8 to 4 cylinders. The tsb only states it would make the noise when going from 8 to 4, not 4 to 8. My car only makes the noise when i'm on the throttle, so it would not be going into 4 cylinder mode. Gm are a bunch of lying dirtbags who don't want to fix the problems they cause. They compromised the reliability of this transmission to make it shift smoother. I'm a member of an online forum of just the ls4/4t65e-hd fwd cars and there are over 138 people with these cars who had or are having transmission problems/failures. Why hasn't there been some kind of recall yet? this is certainly a big enough problem to warrant a recall!

Transmission failure, the transmission fails to fully engage in to any gear when it is supposed to, it will slip and catch from a stop, the torque converter fails to lock up and all gears slip under moderate to heavy acceleration.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that both the driver's and passenger side seat belts would not engage and properly secure the occupants.the failure was noticed approximately a week after the vehicle was purchased in march of 2009.the failure occurred every time she was in the vehicle.the dealer quoted her an inspection price, but did not offer any other assistance.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was 86,336 and failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

The contact owned a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to secure the contact in place. A police report was filed. The contact was knocked unconscious and sustained injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was unknown.

Out of the blue,my brake pedal went to the floor and my abs, brake light and service traction system soon message appeared on the dash and display screen. I do not have a warning and i never know when it is either going to go to the floor or the brakes totally lock up and all i can do is try to keep from hitting someone . It is worse when it is raining. I try not to drive in wet conditions. I can be at almost a complete stop and all of the sudden the brakes lock up and there i go trying to keep from hitting someone or being hit because i am thrown through an intersection.i have been dealing with this issue for several months. I replaced both wheel hubs, pads and rotors, and relays. Nothing has helped. Upon doing some research i found that this is a common problem with these cars.. Has there ever been a recall for this and if not, why?

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle did not stop. The contact mentioned that the tracking control and abs warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the traction control and the abs system failed when the brake pedal was engaged. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal sank to the floor.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed.the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,200.

The brakes on my 2006 grand prix gt were not working properly - again.they were "spongy".this time, it wasn't the rotors that were turned; like last time.the master cylinder was leaking.the dealer replaced it.

Twice, my 2006 grand prix gxp has worn out both front brake pads and rotors. The first incident socked me to the tune of almost $700! the first occurrence was with fewer than 13kmiles on the car. This time, i am at just over 30kmiles and have not yet approached my dealership about the problem! neither time was there ever a brake-wear sensor indicator noise; by the time any noise was heard, the rotors were destroyed! i have read other grand prix gxp owners saying the exact, same thing on many automotive-related websites/blogs. Pontiac division of general motors has been absolutely no help with this unacceptably poor performance!!! i feel that this is less of a brake system problem and more of a front suspension defect; taking particular note this time, the only noise is made when i turn the steering wheel even slightly and i get that awful, sickening metal-to-metal grinding noise!!!!!!! updated 2-3-09: web user comments:please note that since i filed my complaint with you on the rotors and pads on my grand prix gxp, i have taken the vehicle to the pontiac dealership where i leased the car. This time, there was barely enough thickness left on the rotors for them to be turned, but i had to have the rotors at all 4 corners done and had to replace the associated brake pads! furthermore, the repair tech noted on the ro that my gxp was missing 3 hub bolts on the front suspension! this is not good! i complained, once again, to the service writer and, this time, to the service manager. The service manager said he'd contact pontiac motor division to see if they would cover the cost of this dangerous, repeating problem. Alas, pontiac refused! i plan to contact pmd myself, as i did in october 2007, and open up another file on my car. If i don't get any help this time, i'll have my attorney draft a letter and go from there.

Wet road conditions, brake applied, no grip felt when braking, car taking a great deal of distance to stop. Did not slide, simply did not slow down. Near accident due to not being able to stop within normal distance. Has happened several times, most notable in the rain. Driver state heard a grinding type of sound on drivers side.

This vehicle has abs and traction control. While applying the brakes approx. 500 ft. Before the intersection, after slowing (by coasting) to 15 mph, no stopping occurred and slid through intersection of busy crossroad. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic at the time or we would have been broadsided. The roads are gravel and had a slight covering of snow( less than 1/2"). Should have been able to stop in plenty of time, pumping the brakes had no effect, holding brake pedal had no effect. This has occurred again while trying to stop at slow speeds. On 1/19/12 my wife tried to stop at a t- intersection at low speed with no brake response on slippery, snow covered paved road and slid through intersection into opposite ditch damaging the front fascia of the vehicle. Reliability of the safety of the brake system is in doubt. No warning lights or dtc when this occurs. May happen at any time on slick or wet roads. Will have to have dealer diagnose but this should not fail without warning.no one was injured in either incident but this may lead to accidents in the future. We purchased this vehicle new in july 2006. It has been well maintained.there is no apparent cause or warning for this failure. It seems to occur soon after the vehicle is started, at the first stop after speed has exceeded 25mph.

2006 pontiac grand prix 34,200 miles on it. Brake system light on, antilock brake system (abs) light on. Traction control light on, service brake/abs/traction/stability message displayed. This happened all at once this morning, car felt like it didn't want to stop. No warning! i only commute 10 miles to work each day with this vehicle. This shouldn't be happening with a fairly new car right? traded my camry for this car. Tried to stay american!!! i would also like to state thati had trouble stopping, when trying to turn a corner and apply brake. (just two days ago) felt like a knocking under brake pedal. Looking back i wonder if this could be related. I bought this car brand new, from in york, pa. I am afraid to drive this car, and i don't see how this problem is related to everyday use. I feel cheated and unsafe.

I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix gxp with 35,000 miles on it.i was just told that it needs its third set of front brakes and rotors.after the last brake and rotor replacement, grooves were being made on the front rotors within 2 months and the dealership said the brakes were wearing normally.i understand that gm knows about this excessive brake wear problem and is doing nothing about it.the last time the dealer replaced rotors and brakes free even though not under warranty. This time they are telling me they know of no problems with the vehicle's brakes and that it is normal for these brakes to need replacing this often.there appears to be some problem with the brake/vented rotor combination that is causing excessive wear.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving 55 mph a deer crossing the road causedthe contact to lose control of the steering as she avoided hitting the deer.also, the brakes failed and she was unable to stop the vehicle.the vehicle rolled over 3 times. The driver and the passenger were injured with broken backs.the vehicle was destroyed. A police reportwas taken.there was no mention of photos. The current and failure mileage was 34000.

I was told by my dealership that my 2006 grand prix gxp needs brakes and rotors already at 15k miles.this does not seem normal to me or to anyone that i talk to for that matter.this car is a year old.i have owned gm vehicles for 10 years and never once had a problem with brakes or rotors, this soon.this seems to me as a manufacturing defect not a driver induced problem.

Master cylinder failed, new one on order, comes in both abs and non abs, car in question is without abs.

Steering: clicking noise when turningtransmission has a light slip into 1st and sometimes hard shift into 2nd had this looked at in 2013 while it was still under warranty and the dealer didn't want to acknowledge there was a problem. This should be under recall since more people have this same problem.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. While driving at various speeds, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become extremely difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. The vehicle also experienced overheating and loss of anti freeze. The cause of the failure was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Was driving down e. Grand river and got maybe 5 miles down the road and it felt like i hit something and i could not keep my steering straight. It got tight all of a sudden and was hard to turn. It was not a flat as all tires look fine. And all belts believe to be fine. Power steering fluid is fine.this happened on july 30, 2014.

My power steering went on my 2006 pontiac grand prix that i purchased from a dealership on 09/22/07.when i first got the car the steering column was making noises.dealer repaired and all of a sudden in april my wheel got tight and i contacted the dealer and they said there wasn't nothing much they can do and for me to bring the car in for inspection.i was unable to bring it in due to work schedule conflicts.my husband was driving and the wheel locked up and resulted in my car flipping over and a loss of total damage to the car.there were 4 passengers and we all climbed out of the back window while the car was flipped upside down.me and the other 2 passengers were transported to the er via ambulance.

My car started on fire while on a city road because of the power steering pump pulley completely sprung off serpentine belt melted coolant reservoir melted fuse box be melted from the fire how many other things something to do with the power steering pump leaking fluid and hitting my exhaust causing a fire in my car

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. He heard a rattling noise in the front end of the vehicle while driving 10 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they replaced components in the steering shaft, unknown to the contact. The contact continued to hear the rattling noise in the vehicle and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they replaced an unknown component in the vehicle. The vehicle was released to the contact with the same rattling noise. The contact investigated the vehicle further and found that the lower ball joints were failing. The dealer verified the lower ball joints were worn out and they were replaced under warranty at 33,000 miles. Within 12,00 miles, the rattling noise was back but would only occur while traveling over any uneven road surface. No additional repairs were made to the vehicle. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 33,000 and the current was 46,000.

Went to the local convenience store to get some items, on the way back home the steering got very hard to turn. My brother investigated and found the power steering reseavore empty of fluid. He refilled it and looked under the car and found it leaking, (stream of fluid).

I have a recall on my car that i want fixed the steering is acting up but nothing has happened yet.

The bright lights stay on, my horn doesn't work, the instrument codes will blink off and on.. There is a windshield wiper motor that causes a power surge that blows out the blower motor to go out.. It has burn marks..

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact was driving approximately 15 mph on normal road conditions; proceeding to make a turn. The steering wheel began to make a loud whining noise with a loss of power steering. The speed rate was increased and the vehicle resumed to normal operation. There was also a reduction in the whining noise.the failures occurred whenever traveling at a low speed rate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. The mechanic dispensed an unknown solution in the vehicle. The failures continued with no resolution. The failure mileage was 18,000.

After attempting to restart the vehicle, the front of the vehicle caught fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. A fire report was not filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

I have had 3 service lights come on:service antilock brake system, service variable steering effort, service traction control. I took the car to my mechanic who suggested that the traction system component be replaced by a dealer and that there was a recall associated with the steering component of this vehicle.i have not received a recall notice ever regarding this.now, i am dealing with repairs.the caveat and danger here is that the steering is a vital component to driving abilities and without proper steering and traction control there could be an accident.i have contacted gm regarding this problem and they state that this vehicle is not associated with a recall; that is not what my mechanic has advised me.he said there was a recall on 2005-2006 pontiac grand prixs.

Car makes a groan noise from front end when making a right hand turn at speeds below 5 mph.

My vehicle had 32,000 miles on it when i bought it.it seemed that the steering had a good amount of play in it for only being a year old.my girlfriend was driving my car and hit a parked car. She was not injured. She said she didn't know why she lost control and was unable to steer it.it looked like the wheel came loose from the axle.the damage cost $3,000 to fix.the stabilizer bar and tie rod ends had to be replaced.

The outer tie-rod on my 2006grand prix needs replaced. My vehicle has less than 50,000 miles and i also had to replace my tires after around 45,000 because of the tie-rod problem. All together this is costing me around $700 which is a lot to spend on a problem that i feel is a result of improper manufacturing.

Premature wear of the outer tie rod ends.we purchased this vehicle (2006 pontiac grand prix gxp) new, it currently has 37,000 miles on it.on january 16, 2008 the vehicle was taken to a va. State inspection station for an annual safety check.the technician discovered that both of the outer tire rod ends worn beyond safety allowances.the originating dealer was contacted and the service writer and the service manager denied coverage under the basic warranty, basic warranty expired @ 36,000 miles.contact was made to pontiac customer assistance center and a case number was assigned.the customer assistance center is still processing issue, no decision has been made on whether gm is going to cover repairs under the basic warranty.the tie rod ends are non- serviceable items, they are lubricated and sealed when installed and should last well over 100,000 miles.wear of this part causes premature tire wear. Failure of this part will result in loss of control.

Outer tie rod ends for both front wheels failed at 39,000 miles probably even sooner. Tires were worn out very quickly and had to pay 300.00 to get tie rods replaced. Mechanic said the tie rod ends may have come from the factory without being greased and the did not have grease fittings on them like the new ones he put on. Failure caused tires to jump and sloppy steering, which could of been dangerous.the consumer stated tires were worn out at 35,000 miles which could of happened because of the tie rod end failure. About 6 months after purchasing my car i noticed my dash board starting to creak and make noises, within 2 months the left dash board split and now 2 years later so has the right side of the dash board cracked. My husband details my car and keeps the dash protected but to no avail i am driving around with a creaking and cracked dash board.

I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix, and it seems to have paint problems.it is a blue colored car and the least little scatch shows up.not only that, there seems to be no bottom coat of paint, therefore exposing the metal.also, the windshield cracked without force or hit...it started from the bottom..also the windshield wipers outer layer melted.

While driving my car on street i was struck on the passenger side in a intersection when a chevy maxi van struct me when running a red light. My airbag did not deploy and my vehicle was totalled. I sustained body injuries such as back and neck and financial hardship. I have never recovered from these injuries.

Car makes a groan noise from front end when making a right hand turn at speeds below 5 mph.

The complaints indicated that the condition caused inner sidewall wear to the tires. Seven of the complainants allegedtire failure caused by the interference condition of the strut to the adjacent tire. Four of these complainantsclaimed they were traveling at speeds of40 mph or greater when the tire failed. One of these complainants also stated the tire failure caused a crash.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix.while driving 35 mph, the traction control and abs warning indicators illuminated.the wheels ceased to move and the vehicle began skidding.the dealer replaced the speed control sensor, but the failure recurred.the vehicle was not been repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.updated 8/11/14

Transmission almost cost my family there life and gm knows they are flawec

Driving down the road early morning or late night my low beams will turn off and come back on 20 minutes later, this is a very big safety issue. I have replaced fuses and everything possible to do with headlights and they still continue to fail. I have had my car looked at by a certified mechanic and they will not mess with it due to the fact that there are to many wiring harnesses. I have read every forum for grand prixs with low beam issues and nothing solves it. This issues needs to be resolved.

Yesterday driving home, my cara 2006 ponatic grand prix, 3.6 supercharged " engine reduce power" came on. To find out it was my throttle body, mechanic said its common, when i went to look also online to find out its common with about every car..

I have been having startup issues with my car. When trying to start the car, it makes a clicking sound and will not turn on. I have to jump start my car witb a halo portable charger, every single time i want to drive it. Sometimes my car cuts off and loses power while i'm driving which has almost caused me an accident twice! my car has randomly cut off in motion while i was on the highway, approaching an intersection, and on a rural road in another city. I have called before and was told to file a complaint online. This issue started happening a year ago but only occasionally. Now this happens frequently. I assumed i had a bad battery or alternator or starter, so i replaced all three parts, including spark plugs, wires and air filters. I'm still having the same issue and need this resolved. I need transportation to get to and from work and do not deel safe driving it especially during the winter months, when it randomly cuts off. Please help resolve this issue. I am a long time pontiac owner and do not want to get rid of a fully paidfor car if the issue can be resolved by your company.

Please help

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while traveling 55 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the electronic throttle control warning light.the contact stated that the dealer replaced the throttle body but the vehicle proceeded to stall. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer however, they were unable to determine the cause of the failure.the vehicle had not been repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage and current mileages were 150,000.

My 2006 pontiac grand prix has been in for service 3 times for system charging failure, the car looses power, the light flashings, looses, power, looses radio, looses blower motor for heater.i have brought it into the dealer 3 times, they have had it for 3 day's so far this week and can not find a problem with it.i looked on the internet and found that i am not the only person with this problem and i am not the only person that can't get the problem solved.

The contact stated that the head lights failed to illuminate and the wires under the hood started to emit smoke. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Brights come on when using either turn signal. Sometimes in cold weather the brights come on without touching turn signal lever.

After a few minutes of driving the low beam lights will turn off and cannot be turned back on.high beams will work, but low beams cease to operate without warning.problem occurs randomly, operating fine one day and turning off without warning at other unpredictable time frame.

A/c compressor locked up while driving car, thus leaving the defroster inoperable.was not able to clear frost from outside of window or moisture buildup on inside of window causing dangerous driving condition.

The contact owns a 2006 pontiac grand prix.while driving at various speeds, the contact noticed a reflection in the center of the windshield under the rearview mirror.the reflection is caused by the dashboard and is most apparent when driving towards the sunlight.the failure mileage was 10,100 and current mileage was 10,787. 2006 pontiac grand prix - defective right front wheel bearings. I had my right front wheel bearing replaced two years in a row. Jan, 2009 and jan 2010. This was covered under the drive system warranty. In order to get this resolved immediately, i took the vehicle to my local shop since the davis pontiac went out of business 1 week after i purchased the car. The work was done and i maintained the original invoice and my proof of payment. However,i contacted pontiac and requested reimbursement for the $500 i spent on the labor and parts and they will not honor the reimbursement because i do not have the defective parts. Obviously, there is an issue if the right front wheel bearing went two years in a row. I am very disappointed with gm and don't plan to purchase another vehicle from them since they clearly don't value their customers nor policies and don't want to work to resolve the dilemma.
