I was coming up the street and could not see the light due to poor visibility. The sun was in my eyes. I didn't not see the red light and ran through it hitting an older jeep. I was going between 35-45 mph and my air bags did not deploy ever though it was a head on collision. The car needs the whole front half replaced. The bumper cover, actual bumper, bumper absorber, bumper support, headlights, headlight bracket, fog lights, hood, and both fenders. I suffered a concussion and severe bruising from hitting the steering wheel.
Accelerating on the expressway in traffic up 40 mph, dry conditions.vehicle in front of me stopped quickly.when i depressed the brake hard, i had no abs assist.upon impact, the airbags did not deploy even though it was a high energy impact.the vehicle damage caused the vehicle to be scrapped and not fixed.based on the vehiclespeed and rate of deceleration, i would expect that the abs system would have been engaged and the airbags should have deployed.if the abs would have been engaged, i believe the vehicle would have stopped in time.the vehicle in question has been recalled for an ignition switch defect that causes the disabling of the abs and airbags.driver sustained a sprained ankle.
I was broadsided by driver who ran a red light and my air bags did not work don't know why they didn't i was traveling w/b lancaster blvd and was coming south bound on a red light there is a traffic collision report is there anything i can do.
On 8/5/08 i was making a right turn when the car accelerated and i lost control hitting an embankment on the left-the car became airborne crossed the road and hit a tree. The front left of the car was destroyed and left front wheel sheered off.the air bag did not deploy.
Me and my partner were driving on hwy 1-20 when a car that was in front of us (we were in the far left lane by the median) in the 3 way lane hwy hit us head on. My airbag in my vehicle did not come out.
I've read online that the vehicle year model and make is set for recall because of faulty airbags. Airbags that can deploy sharp objects causing server damage or possibly death. I need to know more about this information.
Shortly after i got onto i 270 dublin, ohio, suddenly the car started swirling and went from the 5th lane ended up in the ditch. The crash was very hard but the air bag did not come out. The axle was damaged and the car was a total damage. No one could figure why this happened or how. I did not get ticket for this accident because there was no speed involved and amazingly did not hit anyone and the result of this i lost my car.

Right front tire blew on my 2005 pontiac grand prix causing me to lose complete control of my vehicle on a highway, cross over the center line and slam head on into an 8 foot deep ditch.none of the airbags deployed.
My car has been acting up for a while. It started with gauges and info center flickering while going down the road like it was losing power intermittently. Than started doing this thing when you start it and let off on the key it continues to turn engine over. I received the letter for the recall and took it in.i told dealer what it was doing and they snapped back and said that wasn't part of the recall. I said oh i thought the ignition switch was the problem they said no. They took my keys put their stupid inserts in and sent me on my way.i have been nervous about it and than today it happened going down highway at 65mph and everything shut off!!! no air bags no power steering no power brakes luckily i was not in traffic and cost to shoulder shut key off restarted car everything fine again.key never turned to off position. The switch itself is the problem. Why did some get a new switch and all i get is a key upgrade. I am very disappointed and i feel they have not fixed the really problem. I can not let anyone in my family drive this car. I look forward to hearing your response.

General motors should not have to pay for people that were stupid enough to put more than 2 keys into the ignition.any normal person would know that a lot of weight on the ignition key would either turn the car off or eventually, hurt the unit.our car is from 2005 and milllions of cars have had no issues.less than 2 dozen problems were caused and gm has paid.pity, the dumb people are still driving and think the weight on the ignition lock has no effect.
Since we purchased this vehicle in december 2013 there has been four incidents where the engine totally shut down while in traffic without warning. The first two incident occurred while my daughter was driving while away at college with this vehicle. On approximately 5/17/14, while on interstate 287 (60mph) the vehicle shut off without warning. On approximately 6/20/14 in s. Orange, nj the vehicle shut off without warning in street traffic (28mph). The third and fourth incidents happened when i was driving the vehicle on approximately 8/7/14 at a stop light (0mph) while waiting for the signal to change the vehicle shut down totally. On 9/1/14 while driving on interstate 81n the vehicle totally shut off without warning. Once the engine shut down, the check engine light came on, a message read "loss of engine power' came on. I was driving approximately 72mph and came very close to causing a major accident with three other cars and a tractor-trailer. I was in the passing lane attempting to pass the truck with three other vehicles behind me. When i attempted to accelerate the vehicle shut down. The lights on the dash board went black and the steering wheel locked. The car behind me went into a ditch on the left, while the second car swerved to the right to avoid a collision with me. I had been driving for approximately three (3) hours from s. Orange, nj to syracuse, ny. I was using only the ignition key and the car remote on the keyring. No other items were on the key ring. Fortunately there was no one injured and no crash occurred.i am not using this vehicle because i am terrified to drive it. This is especially disturbing since this vehicle was purchased for my daughter who is away at college. This is more than an unintended key rotation as gm is claiming. Please, i need your help. This vehicle is very dangerous.purchase mileage = 56,372, current mileage = 58,824.
On 9/26/14 i took the vehicle in for a recall for unintentional ignition key rotation. The vehicle was supposedly repaired. But when i attempted to pull out of the driveway at bill rapp pontiac service the vehicle shut down again. It said in the information data that "start up failure due to electrical throttle malfunction. Reduced engine power." i waited approximately 30 seconds and attempted to restart the vehiclewhich did start up. On approximately 9/29/14 while entering interstate 81n in syracuse, ny, the vehicle once again shut down on the highway. I contacted bill rapp pontiac service department and was told that i needed to bring in the vehicle again but that i would have to pay for any further services since there is currently no other recall for the 2005 pontiac grand prix except for the one with the key rotation issue. What can i do? my car is still shutting down in street and highway traffic.

The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix.when the window defogger is activated and the windshield wipers are engaged, the vehicle shuts down.while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalls and loses power.the mechanic stated that the o-ring was missing, which causes the vehicle to lose power due to lack of heat.the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure.when the contact took her vehicle to the dealer, it was still under warranty.however, when she picked up her vehicle from the dealer, she noticed that 100 miles had been added, which put the vehicle out of warranty.the failure persists.the current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 35,000.
I was driving down the highway and my gauges in my display stopped working. I hit a bump in the highway and they came back on again. Takata recall....keep getting a message saying reduce engine power. Took it to a mechanic and dealer and claim they don't know. Car loses power after reduce engine power displays on vechile. Was driving on highway at 50 mph with my three children when message displayed and car shut off. Very dangerous. This has happened more than several times in and off the highway... It did it again today 2/3/2016 while just sitting at a gas station. I have kept up on all maintenance in the car. Can't seem to figure out while it's doing it. Reading online many many other gm owners have same issue.

I apologize as the date of my first incident is only approximated. However, i have had several since then. While driving in the rain, my wipers began to stall frequently and continue to do so. Then, my dash lights became i uncharacteristically dim followed by intermittent stopping of my air blower. After many trips to the car mechanic, no solutions have remedied my problem. After my own research through internet forums and a last discussion with a former gm employee, i believe the problem is with a faulty ignition switch. With a gm recall now in place for my vehicle, do i qualify to receive the repair even though my vehicle is a 2005 model? thank you much!
The car will not always start. Have to turn the key many times and then it finally starts. Sometimes it starts right up and then sometimes i have to turn the key many times to start.
Driving in town at @30 mph and the car lost power, luckily there was a business close by that when i lost power i was able to muscle the steering wheel to get my car off the street.ignition was no longer in the run position.car was able to start back up and i was able to carry on my way.i use only a key with no key chain, no extra weight on the ignition.

The approximate failure mileage was 83,300.
"charging system failure" has appeared at least 12 times on the driver's message console that i have documented. It is also accompanied by the fan blower repeatedly cutting in and out when turned on. This has happened just about every time the fan is turned on. Have taken the vehicle in to have the problem checked at lambert pontiac-buick in cuyahoga falls, ohio, and they stated they ran a computer diagnostic and could not determine what the problem was, and stated there was nothing they could do about it. Also, one time while accelerating it sounded as if the engine were about to cut off, but it did not. Vehicle only has 3200 miles on it.
Abs, traction control, variable effort steering error lights on at same time.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact received notice of nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The dealer was contacted to schedule an appointment. I have an ignition problem which i feel should be in the recall.my make model and year meets the requirement for the gm ignition recall yet my vin does not meet that requirement.the ignition has been messed up for a few monthsas to where thekey will only go half way into the ignition.after several attempt the key would go all the way into the ignition.it has gotten to the point as to where i can not take my key out of the ignition as it may not go back in.i feel that my vehicle should be in the recall.i work a minimum wage job and cannot afford to have the ignition replaced.i check gm web site each day for my vin number.how do you determine which vehicles to recall?
"takata recall" my vehicle will not go in drive as i was mommy way home it was stuck on a city street for 2 months due to transmission slipped. Also my my electrical system is giving out my car will not pick up speed fully it jerks and shakes as well if i lay my foot on the gas.my brakes touches the floor because my brake fluids are leaking out.

Gm recent admission and the nhtsa confirmation of accidents and deaths cause by ignition switch turning off in general motor vehicles is also applicable to pontiacs too which was not mentioned. I have a 2005 pontiac gran prix in which i had this happened twice to me. The second time almost causing me to almost get side swipe by a large truck while going around a bend on a bright sunny day in florida. As describe by the incident of these events. I was driving and operating my pontiac normally, and when i entered the corner the car lost all power as it kept on going. Everything shut down. And because of the lost of power to the steering and power brakes i had to literally manhandle the vehicle from going directly into oncoming traffic and getting smashed. An even that was very scare and now i know the cause. I do not know why gm model from saturn, oldmobile and pontiac are not mentioned in the recall. But obviously they all use and incorporate the same ignition systems, parts and components. Because of neglect of general motor i almost lost my life driving one of their vehicle. I still have the vehicle and i have had one other inside of lost of power that could be related. By i believe that pontiacs are also susceptible to the same problem with the ignition switch as the cars that are all being recalled and involved in deadly accidents.

Every since i have had this vehicle off and on i've had this problem, i would try unlock my car door with the key and it didn't open i was at the park with my granddaughter and there was a dog chasing me and i had my granddaughter with me but i couldn't get in so i climbed on the car that's when i first found out. The second time is when i was out with some friends & the car wouldn't open with the key again! that was embarrassing so my friend took me home i had to have it towed because i didn't know the cause, later that day i tried again & it still didn't work, my remote lock stopped working for the car i've replaced the batteries had it checked even purchased another still no luck, had pay locksmiths plenty of times to the point where there were dents across the top of both my doors until i finally had the car painted, ran into the same issue again and noticed that if the car was to hot or cold from the weather this would happen, now i can't get into my car and i have and important training class that i can't miss but i don't have a choice because i can't get into my car, i've also contacted gmc i have a reference number it is [xxx] i also asked if the recall on the ignition the reason why my car does this the rep assured me that it's not & there is no recall on my vehicle at all. On 2/3/2007 car stalled on freeway and steering wheel lock up rolled to the side of freeway. Could not accelerate car. Waited a while placed car into park turned on ignition switch car started back up but engine light came on this time my 2nd time complaining about car stalling out on the highway . Dealer could not find out why. Paid for car to be checked.
On 1/23/12, while backing out of a parking space on a level lot, my 2005 pontiac grand prix lunged forward.i immediately hit the brake.the car was in reverse not drive! i attempted to back out again and the same thing happened!the second time it lunged forward so quickly i was afraid the car would not stop, even with the brake fully applied.this second lunging incident damaged/cracked the air dam, as it was now wedged against the concrete parking space divider.at the same moment, the dashboard flashed/lit up like a christmas tree....and the engine stalled.i put the car in park and turned the ignition off..then got out to inspect the damage.upon re-entering the car, it would not start!it finally restarted on the third attempt and i was finally able to back out of the parking space.

We returned home from grocery shopping and as we were bringing groceries in, my wife could smell something burning. She thought at first it was the neighbors burning trash but then noticed that the smell was coming from the garage. She seen smoke coming from under the hood. She opened the hood and seen small flames. She quickly extinguished the fire. I pulled the car outside to investigate and as i was disassembling the cars front lighting system, the fog light electrical system was melted and the plastic on the larger light fixture was melted also. I did take photos of the damage.
March 2006- driving home from work in school traffic, running speed limit, obd failed, car cut off and locked up after guiding it to shoulder of roadway. Vehicle was towed to local dealership. Obd replaced.vehicle intermittently will reset passenger compartment temperatures on climate controls, clock will drastically change it's time from the time it's parked to the time it's started again.march 2007- after i left work, i drove approximately 5 miles and parked in a public parkinglot. Vehiclecut off for approximately 30 minutes, i unlocked my vehicle with the remote, got in and started the car. The car fired up without hesitation. As i put my seatbelt on, my computer started warning me to check abs system, check stabilitrak system, and the check engine light came on. When i realized what was happening, the car cut off and would not start, it wouldn't even turn over. I waited an hour or so for a wrecker. While i waited i would turn the key to listen to the radio to occupy my mind until it timed out, then i would turn the key again and repeat the process. The radio, door locks, windows and trunk all operated efficiently by remote and door controls. Vehicle was taken to the same local dealership as before. The diagnostics computer stated that the battery was bad and the battery was replaced. Since then, i have still had the intermittent issues with the climate controls. I contacted the manufacturer to ask about a buyback and could not get the initial customer service representative to call back. I finally got disgusted and spoke to anyone who could look up my information and tell me what decision had been made regarding the electrical issue. The manufacturer stated that there would be no action taken, as the issue had not recurred within the week of the pending request from the time that the battery was replaced.

My horn has failed on 5 occassions.pontiac has issued a service bulletin to fix this intermission horn failure, but the fix does not work.i have had several close calls where other motorists have pulled out in front of me and i have not been able to warn them, as the horn failed.i hope this issue can be corrected properly before and accident occurs.also, pontiac has a problem with a known defect in their steering gears that they only replace when it fails and only cover if it is in the warranty period.this problem is caused by an internal leaking of the power steering fluid that is not detected because there are no external signs of the leak.this too is a safety concern.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that his horn worked intermittently.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that they needed to diagnose the steering column in order to locate the failure code.without it, they would be unable to determine why the horn worked intermittently. The current and failure mileages were 33,000. Updated 11/12/08. *ljthe dealer stated there was most likely a loose or defective connection inside the steering column going to the bcm. Updated 11/14/08. The consumer stated the horn occassionally worked only if he pushed the pad at an angle. Updated 11/14/08.
Key stuck in ignition.
Why is my 2005 pontiac grand prix vin not in the recall.the ignition is messed up.pontiac is paying for potential vehicles to be repair but not vehicles which already has a default ignition.
My car started having very erratic shifting, and revving.
The issue that my pontiac grand prix is having is that its the abs/ traction control system stays on and is hazard when it is working. I have taken the vehicle to be serviced to check the hub bearing and system the bearings were changed and the service light turned off. When the service light is off the vehicle traction control light flash when the vehicle is turning even at speeds 3mph! when the traction light flash i do not have control of my braking system bc the pedal pushes back against me, and in some cases there is a rubbing feeling when the car is put in drive. I noticed that this issue is not only for the pontiacs, but it seems to be an issue with maybe all w-body frames. I drove a 2011 chevy impala as a rental and it did the same thing where the traction light would flash when the vehicle is making a full turn then the light would go off with a light brake delay. The same issue was recent (june 2013) on a 2013 chevy. Impala where if i make full turn the traction light flash. Let me also say that this issue was noticed on "dry pavement" not wet surfaces or snow, and ice. Im reporting this because im not sure how many others may experience this problem but i feel it may be serious especially with the brakes not working when the car is turning.
Lease vehicle from drivetime temple texas , complained several times as car stalled while in drive putting my life in danger as car wouldn't stop and it rolled once into traffic as a semi truck swerved to miss me , and once off the highway coming to a stop light i had to turn vehicle with all my might to miss a car with a family two children in the car, because i was unable to pay for the tow, diagnostics, and maintenance plus their payment due to this situation i lost the car, my job apartment and drivetime refused to reimburse me or fkx the problem , they have been warned about this recall and possibly trying to resell the vehicle that is still registered to me to someone else , they kept my trade in and all the money i invested in the car , having to get a lawyer to look into this situation.
The traction control feature is unsafe.when it comes on it causes the wheels to lock, prevents braking, and proper steering. This always happens in the rain.it has in the snow and even when it is dry.once pulling into a parking space the wheels locked causing me to slide into the vehicle parked in front of me.when it happened in the snow it caused me to lose control and slide across the entire intersection luckily no other vehicles were present.and yes, i know how to drive in the snow. I was only going about 15 mph and lightly tapped the breaks at the stop sign. When i remember to turn the button off after starting the vehicle it does not happen but sometimes it is hard to remember since it is automatically activated when the car is started.the times this has occurred i was either turning on coming to a stop and speed does not seem to make a difference.it has happened on a city streets, freeways, parking lots, neighborhood stop signs, and driveways.this has been randomly happening the entire 5 years i have owned the car.

I was driving down the road when my engine started smoking i pulled over add a friend who was is mayor of the next town over to let it cool down so that i could look to see what it was when i walk to the garage i turned around and looked and there was flames shooting up from under my hood

I am having an issue where i am getting a message that says reduce engine power. Took it to dealer they do not know what is wrong. Many other people are having the same issue and no recall? car completely dies no matter where you are. I happen to be doing 50 mph on the freeway with three children in the backseat. Thnak god we were ok! from what i read about this issues this should have been a recall. But i assume since no one died yet its just a complaint
During hard braking, engine oil drips onto the engine exhaust manifolds. There is a strong smell of burning oil when parking the car after driving. The vin was originally listed as being eligible for nhtsa recall # 15v201, but a recent search does not list it any longer even though it exhibits the condition. I am concerned with the risk of an engine compartment fire if this is not repaired soon.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the emergency brake was applied. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the throttle body failed and the entire electronic system fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my car lost power and said "reduced engine power" i was pressing the gas going 55 mph and it suddenly lost all rpmsand speed dropped. I was almost rear ended by another vehicle traveling behind me. I was very upset on the side of the road with my son. I was told about many others who have had this problem with pontiacs. What is being done about this? and if nothing why? my son and i were very lucky we weren't i'm an accident. Want answers and why there isn't a recall getting these cars fixed. It is very unsafe.

2005 grand prix 11,000 miles car started to have severe hesitations and stumbling problems, took car in several times between two dealers and still the car is not right, i have spent close to 3,000 dollars and my secondary warranty has put about 4500.00 dollars all in repairs and the car now only has 33,000 miles on it, it has almost caused me to crash because of loosing power and not able to accelerate into traffic, gm is not helping resolve this at all they keep saying they don't know, i have been told it is the fuel pump or fuel pressure but that they are unable to prove this to warranty company so that they will replace it, so far to correct the problem my car has had the " catalytic converter replaced, mass-map-pcv replaced all plugs and wires replaced, complete engine combustion cleaning and most recent the transmission, this car has been a complete nightmare not knowing when this will act up and what will happen next, it has also had the steering system replaced under a defect, i have also paid included in the amount i have spent over 600.00 in diagnostic fees, they are telling me that the fuel pump could cost around 700.00-800.00 dollars because mine has the pump, filter and regulator all in one unit, please check into this as this has become such a strain on me and i am not sure where to go from here.
Dt:consumer purchased the vehicle in september 2004. He noticed that the headlights shook when driving at night which cut down onvisibility.consumer has had vehicle to dealer three times, and dealer stated that all that type vehicles were the same. Consumerwent to another dealer and found that they were not all having the same problem. When the consumer went to the dealer, where he purchased the vehicle from, he was shown 10 or so other vehicles that were like hisand they all had loose headlight assemblies, but when the consumer went to other dealers to see if problem was with all grand prixhe noticed that all the vehicles he looked at were free of this problem. Consumer was not sure of how this is possible. Vehicle was purchased at union pontiac in union, new jersey. Other dealers where the consumer looked at werefree of problems such as difeo pontiac, jersey city, new jersey.the consumer was shown bythe dealer that problem is the headlight assembly was loose in the vehicle causing the headlights to vibrate while driving. Dealer said that they did not know how to fix the problem.
Engine would not start in the initial try but would start on the second attempt. Fuel pump was not producing the necessary pressure. Fuel pump was replaced.

The contact owns 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the vehicle only had one lock for entering and exiting the vehicle which had failed. The remote key fob was previously replaced three times for the exact same failure but to no avail. The contact believed that the key fob was poorly manufactured and was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 63,000.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the vehicle only had one lock to get in and out the vehicle which did not work. She had the remote key fob replaced twice since 2008 but the failure occurred again. The contact called the dealer who offered no assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 63,000.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. While idling at a stop light, the contact's child opened the rear passenger door although it was locked. The issue occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose or repair the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the gear lever shifted from park to drive without the brake pedal being depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 148,000.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized. The contact mentioned that when attempting to start the vehicle, the key was difficult to turn and difficult to shift into another gear. In addition, the contact stated that when driving, the key would release from the ignition and the vehicle would decelerate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 119,300.
While trying to cross an intersection my car would not take off from stop, transmission then grabbed and jerked into first gear.this has been a problem for a while, it also jerks into second and third gear.seems to only do it when transmission is hot.this seems to be a common problem with this transmission and when i brought the car to gm dealership they told me that i had to have my transmission rebuilt for around $3,000, my car had the extended warranty run out at 72,000 miles and i now have 80,000 miles.i did purchase the extended warranty.
My 2005 pontiac grand prix gxp transmission just stopped while i was driving.i have read how about 225 people have documented on a website of their transmission issues with this same make and model vehicle here http://www.gmls4.com/index.php/topic,33.0.html with my car only having around 80,000 miles and has not been driven hard i am really disappointed in gm for making a vehicle like this. The transmission is now whining and i can drive it about ten yards and there will be lose of power and it will not drive in any gear on the vehicle. I am very disappointed and need this corrected and will ultimately need a new transmission which will ultimately have the same problem down the road.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a scheduled transmission flush. The contact also stated that the transmission fluid utilized by the vehicle was dexron 3, but the dealer utilized dexron 6, which had a different viscosity. The contact also stated that the vehicle started to jerk when placed into drive. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for diagnostic testing and the results were that the transmission solenoid was faulty and needed replacement. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was85,000.
I bought this car from an older man who rarely drove this grand prix kept it in great shape after a yearwhen i bought it i noticed the transmission would go up to 212 degrees and it would shift very hard out of first and out of second then it started doing it at 180 degrees i took it to a gm dealer to get a transmission flush and they said i would be doing more harm then good because of all the broken down gears in the transmission. It slips a lot now and they want me to buy a new transmission after a year of owning it when their was absolutely nothing wrong with it when i purchased the car.
My car started having very erratic shifting, and revving.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, there was a sudden loss of acceleration power. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Also, the contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to a dealer for the same failure on three occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 86,000.
The car was about to enter the mass pike when all forward motion stopped.the transmission was in 'drive' but it acted as though it had slipped into neutral.the car was dead in the middle of the road and there were a number a near miss collisions before the emergency vehicle arrived.the car is now at a gm dealership awaiting a transmission rebuild.we bought this car new and have had a number of transmission issues starting at 12,456 miles.within the first year of ownership we reported a 'clunking' noise to the dealership - they said they could not recreate the problem.we had additional issues where the car would 1) not move when starting from a traffic light or 2) would act as though it was in neutral when coasting and then 'bang' into gear several seconds after stepping on the gas pedal.these issues were reported to the dealer at 33657, 45381, 51284, 56446, 61543 and 72552 miles.in each case, except for the one at 56446 miles the dealer said they could not replicate the issue - but they charged for the time.at 56446 miles we tried another dealership and they spent over an hour testing the car.finally, they did experience the problem.they replaced several transmission parts but we experienced a shuddering problem less than a year later.they detected a possible torque converter problem at that point but said it the could be driven and no other parts of the transmission would be affected.there is a common issue with the transmission in gm v8 cars - there are many reports of failures and expensive repairs.it appears to be a design issue.the symptoms started early on, and despite our multiple reports of problems and exact adherence to the maintenance schedule there was almost a serious accident.
I have a 2005 grand prix gxp in which the transmission has failed. I took the vehicle in for service last year because it would hesitate from a stop and slam violently into first gear. At the time the dealer could not reproduce the concern and told me to bring it back when it got worse. My extended warranty that i purchased separately from gmpp expired on the 22nd of september. This is a dangerous flaw when you are unable to accelerate when pulling into traffic, especially on the gxp model which has over 300 horsepower and torque steer that is hard to control when it finally shifts into gear.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the transmission failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was confirmed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that the transmission failed while driving.the contact stated that little pieces of metal were scattered as a result.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure.a local mechanic replaced the transmission.the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.
Torque converter failed causing abrupt stop in acceleration while merging on expressway.the damage to the torque converter also caused damage to the transmission as well.

I leased my 05 grand prix gt new in 2005 and purchased it in 2008 after i purchased thevehicle i too noticed the change in shifting gears loss of poweror no movement then all of a sudden the transmission would pop into gear when the vehicle had approx 68k miles.i had taken the vehicle to several dealers, and theytold me either they could not replicate the problem or they soldme on something else including transmission flushes.one mechanic informed me quit as few vehicles been in for complaining about the same thing. There seems to be a problem in the design of these transmission.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 45 mph, there was a long lag in the vehicle acceleration.the vehicle was pulled to shoulder, shut off, and restarted.when the vehicle was shifted into gear, it was not able to be moved in any direction.the vehicle was towed to a service dealer who was unable to determine the problem.later on that same day, the same problem occurred a second time.the vehicle was taken to a second dealer who determined that the transmission had locked up due to the heat.the dealer informed the contact that they would be unable to repair the vehicle due to the contact purchasing the vehicle from a different dealer.the vehicle was then taken back to the original dealer, who rebuilt the automatic transmission.this was the third time the transmission had been rebuilt due to the same issue.updated 10/17/2006 -

1. Events leading up to failure = regular day-to-day vehicle use.2. Failure = transmission, when accelerating from a stop, transmission seems to slip and then slam into gear.also, occasional hard slam into 2nd hear under part throttle.3. What was done to correct failure = repair shop inspection with pan removed 1-year ago, nothing found.problem still exists..
Transmission is slipping for several seconds, then catching with a sudden "thunk".apparently this is a common problem for gm cars (pontiac grand prix gxp, chevy impala ss & chevy monte carlo ss) equipped with an ls4 engine and transmission. This is a dangerous situation as it comes and goes without warning.sometimes everything is fine, but if you are pulling out into traffic and the problem occurs without warning you may not be able to accelerate appropriately and result in a crash.
My car at only 54k miles, transmission failed, causing to loose power in traffic. I had the transmission rebuilt ($2400), 8 months later it failed again ($1200), 2 months later, failed again ($0-warranty). Mechanic finally figured out it was some pressure relieve valve on the transmission, causing pressure to build up, causing the torque converter to explode, sending debris throughout the transmission. I did not go to dealer as car for that model year was out of warranty, but went to transmission shop who has been in business for about 30 years. I wrote to gm, but got no monetary satisfaction.many people i've read about online with this type of transmission have had similar problems. I've never had transmission trouble in all the cars i've ever owned. It would seem there is a defect in this model, and would like to recoup the money spent on this issue. It seems it's on gm models with a v8 front wheel drive transmission. Like the pontiac grand prix gxp, and monte carlo ss, buick lucerne v8.
Transmission slips or shutters from a stop, then slams into gear.shift from 1st to 2nd is slow. Shifting manually works ok.this is a common problem with the gm 5.4l engine 4t65e-hd combination and has been happening nearly every time i drive the car.local transmission dealer says he sees this all the time and is a known issue.this has been happening for quite some time, but because it started after the warranty expired the deal would not do anything.
Transmission showing signs of failure despite using the best synthetic tranny oil and regular tranny oil changes. The car has only 117 000 kms and slams into gear after a slow start. Also shudders sometimes before a gear locks in. Apparently these are common problems that occur just before complete transmission failure.
I have a 2005 pontiac grand prix sometimes when i press on the pedal the car hesitates.there is also a whining noise coming from under the car.at first i thought it needed a tune up so i had the spark plugs changed.i thought this would correct the problem, but the car continues to stall.just the other day i was driving and the car would not go.it felt like the transmission was slipping.so i took it the shop and they said i have a problem with my transmission which i already knew that. I have talked to other people with this same car and they have also had transmission problems.i would like to know if pontiac is aware of this or did i get a bad car.
Dt*: the contact stated after accelerating to 65 mph to change lanes, the vehicle speed continued to increase after the foot of the contact was removed from the accelerator and began depressing the brake pedal.the tires continued to spin in a forward motion.the transmission was placed into neutral in order to stop the vehicle, but the engine continued to race until the engine was turned off.when the vehicle was restarted, the vehicle drove normally, but the brakes had been damaged when stopping the vehicle.the service dealer repaired the brakes, but was unable to detect the problem.the manufacturer was notified.the 3rd gear of the automatic transmission burned out, causing the vehicle to accelerate badly.the vehicle was serviced but the vehicle continued to have problems and stalled when the vehicle speed was reduced to 45 mph.the vehicle was coasted to a stop and then taken to the service dealer.
I own a 2005 grand prix gxp ls4 v8 with 60kmi. The transmission has shuddered on the 1-2 shift and sometimes delayed on the 2-3 shift since 40kmi. Every time i have taken the car in out of warranty, and even while it was in warranty, the problem could not be replicated. I know the 4t65e-hd transmission in this car is subject to failure as i am a member of many online forums that have cars with the ls4 v8 and 4t65e-hd and the transmission failure is the number one topic of discussion. It will leave you stranded without warning, and may break in the middle of traffic causing a dangerous situation to be in. It seems to be too much for a transmission that was designed to be mated to a v6 engine to be mated to a 5..3l v8.
My transmission has blown once, and the replacement (factory warranty) is acting up and getting ready to go again. (excessive slippage, grabbing, and fail to engage). I am not an aggressive or spirited driver, so there is no reason to have transmissions fail this often. In researching online, it appears this is common with this vehicle/engine combo.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix.the vehicle has been experiencing transmission failure since june of 2007.while driving 15 mph, the vehicle jerks into gear and surges unexpectedly, making it difficult to control.the contact took the vehicle to two different dealers because they could not determine the cause of the failure.the failure mileage was 23,000 and current mileage was 33,000.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix.the contact noticed that the rear passenger side seat belt buckle worked intermittently.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the seat belt buckle at the cost of $160.68.she will contact the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 54,499 and current mileage was 54,550.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. While merging onto an exit ramp, the brakes failed and caused the vehicle to hydroplane, spin around, and crash into a pole. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 179,000.
When turning at low speed such as into a parking space the anti lock brakes activate then the service brakes indicator goes on.this has been occurring since i purchased the vehicle and i have had it check twice out of the numerous 50+ times it has occurred and the service tech's have found nothing wrong with the braking system.when this error occurs it also caused the traction control system to deactivate.
Abs traction control, anti -skid lights come on from time to time .than i replaced pads (front and back) replaced caliper, lights comes on all the time and front makes noise ,fells like brakes are grabbing as if they want to lock up.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while approaching a stop, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle seized causing the contact to crash into the rear of three vehicles. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained bruising to the chest area which required medical attention. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was involved in two crashes with the same failure. Also, the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, an abnormal clicking sound emitted from the vehicle and it would fail to start. The contact had to retry starting the vehicle for five minutes before it would start. The vehicle was included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was unavailable.
Coming to a stop around 5-10 mph and brake peddle will depress to the floor like it's losing pressure and make a sound like the abs kicking in and it's random when it does it.

2005 pontiac grand prix gt. Braking issue; while appling brake and going over bumpy ground the pads loose contact with disk, peddle softensmore pressure has tobe applied. Has this symtom been reported before?
I had originally entered this complaint under 2005 pontiac grand am but the car is actually a 2005 pontiac grand prix.see original complaint and please relist it correctly under steering complaints.thank you for your time and attention to this mattercomponent: vehicle speed control 10051575details: dt: the consumer experienced sudden acceleration. As a result, she crashed into her apartment. The gas meters were destroyed and electrical wires were cut.the speed was no more than 5-10 mph. When she hit the brake the car went out of control. The vehicle was a rental car. Since this incident the car was checked out by the rental car company's repair shop and no defect was found.i contacted pontiac and general motors corporation and they claimed ignorance of the fact that this is happening to other similar vehicles.i have been charged $5,000 in damages by the rental car company for a car valued at $9,000 and $3,500 by the apartment complex for repair of the apartment.but i could have died from the impact when the air bag never deployed.cause: result: occurrences: 1 injuries: 0 fail date: 07/12/2005 deaths: 0 date added to database: 7/13/2005
Having trouble with the braking system. When trying to come to a stop real fast there is a grinding noise coming from the front brakes.the brakes work fine when coming to a slower stop.i took vehicle to james rivard pontiac in tampa, florida.this was looked at by dealer but dealer was not helpful at all concerning issue due to the fact the car was bought used and not from them.this is still under factory warranty 2005 with 34000 miles,i also purchased the extended warranty when i bought the vehicle of the issue and possibly could be a brake caliper issue.this is very unfair to consumer and a safety issue as well.this should be on high priority to be looked at.
Dt:when the consumerfirst bought the vehicle there was a brake grinding noise. The dealer noted there was heat stress fractures on the brake rotor. This was a new vehicle.they replaced the rotors.the next day, the brake noise returned, the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer again.there was a replacement of the brake caliper which made the noise go away for about 7 days but later returned.took back to the dealer this morning 7-25, dealerstated that gm was aware of the problem because it was happening to other gm models.the dealer said there was a secret technical service bulletin but gm has not made a remedy for this problem as of yet-gm is trying to design a new type of brake caliper for this problem.car is still at dealer because can not offer a fix for this problem until gm complies with a remedy.consumer feels they can not fix vehicle.
The contact owns a 2005 pontiac grand prix gtp. While driving approximately 5-10 mph the steering wheel became very difficult to turn to the left. The contact stated the failure had been on going since friday january 14, 2011. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. He called the manufacturer and was advised that they would contact him on january 18, 2011. The warranty was not valid. The vin was not available.
2005 pontiac grand prix gt 3.8 l v6 engine:the rack and pinion steering system failed to work properly.when attempting to make a left turn, the power steering function unexpectedly failed, causing loss of control.i was able to stop the vehicle in time to avoid running off of the road.also, i was almost rear-ended by the vehicle turning behind me.i was not able to continue with the turn at the location of the failure.it was necessary to back up into traffic in order to adjust the steering wheel so that i was able to pull off of the roadway.the steering wheel was not able to turn to the left (no power assist).the steering wheel was able to turn freely to the right (power assisted).due to the immediate nature of the failure, this issue could result in a severe accident which couldcause significant damage or injury.the vehicle was repaired at a local repair shop.the technician replaced the rack and pinion for the vehicle.during his analysis, he spoke to a local pontiac dealer.their repair shop representative stated that they were aware of similar occurrences, but general motors had not issued any form of safety recall.during my initial attempt to troubleshoot the problem, i read several similar complaints online.most reported an immediate loss of power steering, typically in one direction.the total repair for this item was $521.00.the replacement part was $300, labor was $200, and indiana tax (7%) was $21. I would appreciate any assistance that you may offer in resolving this safety issue.thank you for your time.
I have a general motors 2005 grand prix.it has developed a 'knocking' sound when driving.the same noise corresponds with bumps you can feel in the steering wheel.i took the car to a goodyear service center.they put the car on the lift, removed the front tires and did a complete examination of the "front end".they reported that there was a problem in the steering column.i called pontiac's customer hot-line out of the back of the owners manual.they would not acknowledge the problem.they did state that they would not cover the cost of the repair to the steering column.i asked for that information in writing.the phone operator said he would not provide that to me.i asked for his supervisor.he promptly hung up on me.i called back.i opened a new case #71-663-678745.the operator informed me that they would have to verify the information via an "authorized dealer".we conference called with bob brown chevy.they said they knew of this problem, but would charge me $89 to diagnose it...even though it is a known problem.according to the goodyear service center - thousands of vehicles are affected..and gm won't acknowledge it.they don't want to recall the product.bob brown chevy gave an 'off the cuff' estimate of $300 to replace the lower steering column extension.if it has a knocking sound and can be felt in the steering wheel, i feel that the car is now unsafe.i am afraid to drive the car and will not buy another gm car until i am satisfied that the steering column won't become unattached and allow the car to veer to the side at will.i don't know how many cars are affected, or if any crashes have been attributed to loss of steering due to a design flaw in the steering column.in 30 years of driving, i have never experienced this problem in dozens of cars from all types of manufacturers - either owned or rented. The repair includes replacement of the lower column extension arm. Updated 11/07/08.
Vehicle started disengaging cruise control and traction control , vehicle then started jerking/shifting hardand overheating, followed by vehicle shifting from one set position of drive to neutral, took into shop to look at transmission was told just a dirty sensor , had sensor cleaned , about a month later same thing, had it cleaned again and then dec 2013 the traction control auto disengaged again and then one day it turned itself on again,no there's a coolant leak issue and oil leak and check engine light on for the catalytic converter...[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I purchase mic 73391 defender tires and they are cracking on the sides, i was told they could get a blow out.is there a recall on this tires.i purchased them jan 2013 at tire choice auto car care.i also would like to know about the steering knuckle onmy 2005 pontiac grand prix.

Car shut off and locked steering wheel while driving
Power steering pump is losing fluid, this has happened twice now. Car was taken into dealer and no leaks,or fluid was found under car. All they would do is fill up pump with more fluid.the fluid must be going somewhere? my car makes a very high whining sound when it gets low on fluid. I was told this is a valve problem in pump by other people.
When driving 30 mph up to 70 mph all of a sudden the reduced rngine light vomes on and the car starts decelerating to 5 mph and sometimes cuts off causing power steering to not work. This started after the worked on yhe ignition recall. I asked about it and was charged $75 fir them to put it on the computer. Then was told it would be over $700 for them to find out what's wrong. I don't have that type of money so l let it sit up for awhile only to be yold it could possibly be the gas pedal and wouldn't cost that much to replace... I've almost had two accidents before l could pull over. If it cuts off completely it cranks right back up - sometimes ot will take on off but other times l have to sit and wait because it won't accelerate no faster than 2 to 5 mph, like something has to catch up. I haven't gotten it fixed yet because l can't afford it.
I purchased a 2005 grand prix gt, on april 28, 2009. It was a used vehicle and had 28,000 when purchased from used car dealer. When i test drove the vehicle i noticed a knock with the steering system. They told me that it was a problem and the dealers were aware of. They said they would fix it once the knock or the system got worst. I am going to the dealer that i purchased the car from as the steering system is getting more pronounced. I called our local pontiac dealer that was still in business and he said that there was no recall on the power steering set up. I have found information on the web site that states that there is a problem with the steering. There was a recall id 09e005000 steering, it was related to the dorman company recalling 979 steering knuckles supplied by them. There were also service bulletins referring to the steering problem. There were odi complaints filled concerning the problem.i can reference the numbers if you need them. I have talked to another pontiac dealer who has lost his franchise but stated to me that it was a problem and that he would fix it for me. I told him that where i purchased the car they would fix it.this is a major safety problem and there should be a recall.i am sure you have received complaints on this subject. The system has not failed but until i get this corrected i will not let anyone drive the vehicle but me. Can you help me with this problem, can we get a recall on this.gm has taken stimulus dollars and they will not stand by there product. Thanks for any thing that you can provide me in this safety issue. I did not incur an accident but the steering is acting up and i will get it fixed.

During the second week of april 2007, i noticed my 2005 grand prix gt was making a sort of "whizzing" noise when i accelerated.i noticed this noise was particularly pronounced when i turned.on april 13, 2007, i checked the power steering fluid level.i was alarmed to find that there was little to no fluid!i added fluid to the reservoir immediately and decided to check the gaugeagain ,the next morning.upon doing so the next day, i found the power steering fluid to be acceptable.i decided to check the fluid level for the next few days to track the rate of leakage --- again on sunday, april 15, the fluid level seemed ok.i drove my car to the airport that same day and left it for the entirety of the following week while i was on business.i picked it up on sunday night, april 22 and drove it home (30 miles) with no trouble.on my way to work the morning of monday, april 23, several lights came on in my car -- service traction control system, service variable effort steering, service abs.at the moment these lights appeared, steering became *severely* diminished!it was extremely difficult to turn and drive the car.i immediately took it to shop where the car was diagnosed as leaking power steering fluid in 2 places.the hoses and pump were replaced.the car was returned to me on april 24.on my way to work on april 26, the lights returned and again, i lost the ability to steer. Concerned about my safety, i took the car back to the shop where it was diagnosed as having a faulty sensor (linked to the power steering) on one of the rear wheels.that sensor has since been replaced. To have this kind of extreme degradation and failure on such a new vehicle is extremely dangerous and clearly a quality defect.
Tie rod failure drivers side then leak in tie-rod rack and pinion driver's side as a result of repair. Notified dealer while under warranty that power steering fluid was low and they did not assist in a check.i had to pay after warranty expiration for repair.fuel tank band loose had to be retied.
Dt*:the contact stated when vehicle was turnedin either direction there was a chocking noise. The dealership determined that the intermediate steering shaft was defective. But he dealershipoffered only a temporary solution, the could lubricate the shaft so that the chocking noise will not be heard. But, therewas no permanent solution to the problem.

Steering wheel making squeaky noise, as well as something in the car making gurgling water sound in the dashboard.
Drain holes in top of car got plugged causing interior damage.head liner had to be replaced at a cost to myself for $1100.gm would not back original warranty.was told to have drain holes "blown out" 2x yearly.first leak occurred within first year of ownership.mechanic admitted this was a "flaw" in design of this model in 2006.major leak occurred 10/2009.coleman told me it was not covered under their policies.

Left front lower front control arm started to collapse due to severe rust through.there was no warning, only a sudden creaking and groaning noise and sone difficulty turning the wheels while driving home on country roads.earlier in the day, we had been on the interstate traveling at 65 mph.if this control arm fully fractured at that speed we would have lost all steering ability, this car has only 26363 miles on it.
Passenger side rear suspension strut (spring/shock assembly) suddenly collapsed downward because lower spring retainer ring rusted away, allowing suspension spring to push downward and up against rear tire.happened when we were pulling out of driveway, first heard a thump, followed by a dragging sound and then saw blue smoke coming from rear passenger side wheel well.at first we though a tree branch had gotten caught under the vehicle (we live in a rural area). Vehicle had to be towed from driveway for repair.had this happened suddenly on a highway at 55 mph or more we may have lost control of the vehicle.examination of the strut on the rear driver's side showed it also was significantly rusted and no doubt it too would have collapsed at some future point.both rear struts and damaged tire replaced by local repair shop.
The driver's side rear suspension trailing arm, which attaches to the frame and rear wheel assembly suddenly sheared away due to rust through.the purpose of the trailing arm is to keep the rear wheel ridged and prevent it from moving backwards or forwards.even if the trailing arm did not drop to the ground, the car may not handle properly, especially at high speeds, with a rear wheel acting like a loose cannon.since the break was near the point where it attached to the frame the implications are enormous.if the arm were to drop to the ground while the vehicle was in motion, especially at highway speeds,it could push the entire rear wheel assembly back and cause a loss of vehicle control.worse, it could also cause the car to jackknife up resulting in loss of control.

The car will not always start. Have to turn the key many times and then it finally starts. Sometimes it starts right up and then sometimes i have to turn the key many times to start.
I recently purchased a 2005 grand prix (gp), i very quickly noticed that the bakes were rubbing making a loud noise when pressing the brakes in a hurry, well as a result to this it has nearly caused accidents, after taking the vehicle to the pontiac dealer, they test drove my car and said they were rubbing and made me a appointment to return, and that's when they told me there was nothing wrong that they also drove another 2005 and it did the same so basically they all do that, i really do not think this is safe and it really needs to be investigated. Thank you in advance on this matter.
Vandalism (broken driver side window and alarm did not sound off)
I almost crashed more than once because the vehicle accelerates at full throttle on it's own. Persistent issue. When driving on the express way with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle abruptly accelerates at full throttle, rpms shoot to the red line, and at times the cruise cancels then resumes (at full throttle) on its own erratically and repeatedly within a duration of less than a couple of seconds. This happens at 70 mph and all other speeds even at 25 mph. Almost crashed so many times. When that happens, the speedometer reports random vehicles speed. I have sent an email to gm through their complaint section at pontiac.com with no feedback. Dealer did a courtesy dtc check with no luck. My manufacturer warranty just expired, and i'm not willing to pay the dealer to fix gm's design problem at my expense.
2005 pontiac grand prix gt sedan vin #[xxx]purchased 12/16/2004.intermittently vehicle stalls/ loss of power in the engine.while driving the vehicle it will suddenly just loses power. You continue to press the accelerator pedal and then the engine will suddenly take back off at a great speed. This has happened while driving normally without trying to accelerate and also while trying to accelerate.the car has lost power while trying to merge in traffic.the car has lost power while trying to cross highways.the car has lost power while just driving down the road.gmc has performed the following repairs without fixing the problem.12/30/2004 [xxx]-module, powertrain control-engine reprogramming.01/24/2005 [xxx]-solenoid,pressure control-replaced.02/04/2005 [xxx]-module, pcm/vcm-replaced.02/14/2005 [xxx]-pedal,accelerator-replaced.dealership purchased from capital buick-pontiac-gmc 225-293-3500. Dealership has advised that they do not know what is wrong with the car. We have been told that we have to go direct to pontiac with the problem. Have been in contact with pontiac since 02/15/05. Pontiac advised that they were going to research the problem and see if any other grand pri was reporting like problems. So far the only advice from pontiac is they want us to come in and take another grand prix off the lot and see if we can get this car to duplicate the same problem. This did not impress me at all.so after waiting for 2-1/2 months for pontiac to do something to fix the problem, i have decided to report this to nhtsa.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
On 8/5/08 i was making a right turn when the car accelerated and i lost control hitting an embankment on the left-the car became airborne crossed the road and hit a tree. The front left of the car was destroyed and left front wheel sheered off.the air bag did not deploy.

Dt*:the consumer stated the defroster does not completely defrost the windshield.this causes the windshield to form ice and the windshield wipers to freeze.the area that does not defrost is approximately one and a half to two inches from the bottom and approximately 14-16 inches from the ends.the vehicle has been seen by the dealership and the manufacturer was contacted.it was determined this is how the vehicle was manufactured therefore, no remedy was available.updated 3/28/2006 -

She stated had automatic climate control on the vehicle and when she turned the heater on no matter what temperature it was set to the heat was minimal and luke warm.the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for the failure who advised her that the hvac control head needed to be replaced and that the part was on back order from the manufacturer.the contact stated that the manufacturer could not give them a delivery date.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 81,648 and the current mileage was 81,736. Updated 03/31/11*ljupdated 05/06/11
Wiper motor, when the blower is on high and the wipers are activated the blower stops for a minute and starts again, this occurred for 6 months now the wiper motor just stopped working all together. Waiting on a part for repairs which tells me this is happening a lot. $250.00 for repairs.
Abs, traction control, variable steering effort warnings came on all at once.turned out to be a bad wheel hub/bearing. Have replaced two wheel hubs, one at 40k miles and the other at 61k miles.the car is a grand prix gtp,for the money paid for the vehicle,it should have held up better.
