I experienced dual air bag failure in my 2003 pontiac grand prix in january 2009. I was driving about 45 miles an hour and hit a tree head on. The impact was hard enough that the car bounced off the tree and spun around in the road. The insurance company totaled out the car after determining that the cost to repair it would be well over $6000. All the damage was done to the front passenger side of the car and the engine. Luckily, i was wearing my seatbelt which saved me from being seriously injured. I am not looking for compensation but i do want someone aware that the 'safety measures' the manufacturer installed are not reliable. Had i been fatally injured, i am sure that my family would have sued for the manufacturer's negligence. Unfortunately, until the airbags are needed, you won't know they are faulty.
Recall on engine pulled into driveway open hood car with smoking then it united fire there is oil on the drip pan but that's been going on for years never got a recall note in the mail
While driving on the highway head lights went out, heard a very loud pop as if something burst, no longer does the rear defroster, air conditioner, heated seats, or information panel work. Running daylights no longer work as well.
There were several problems with my car beginning with rear defrost not working. The air would only work on high. Then as i was driving home one night i turned the fan to the air/heat offand my headlights went out nearly causing me to run off the road. Then at some point my car would not start and i would have to keep trying. Then it would not start at all.at first i was told it was the starter so i had that replaced, only to find out it was not the starter. Finally the problem was solved amazingly enough it was the ignition switch. There should be recalls on all these vehicles before more people are injured or killed because of a faulty product.
I have a 2003 grand prix se and everytime i turn my ac/heater on my headlights go off, its 80+ degrees in the summer time. I can't keep driving with my windows down its too hot, not to mention i carry my friend and her kid around. I worry every night driving down the road that my headlights won't work. This is very dangerous for me and other traffic. I've read many forums and websites containing people with the same exact problem. Please make a recall. I've been told it the ignition switch and blower.
-the contactstated thatwhiledrivingthe 2003 pontiac grand prix on a sunny day at 35 mpha deer ran out in front of the vehicle he swerved in order not to hit the deer andran into a tree.the air bag deployed, the car caught on fire and was consumed by the fire.he had a hard time getting out thedriver'sside door, it would not open. He had to crawl out through the back window.the failure mileage was 87000 miles.
Ignition switch circuit faulty checked on line seems like there is a lot of complaints pertaining to the same problem.
I have a 2003 pontiac grand prix that has not been included in the recall, i went to start my car and right before i pulled off it shut down. Thank goodness it happen before i drove off because my mechanic found a faulty electrical system and the wires had melted which could have resulted in a fire. More over the ignition cylinder needs to be replaced now.

While i'm personally unaware of any crashes or people dying due to this problem on this model, gm has a well documented history of bad ignition switches on other models that are not included in the recall that they have known about for many years.the effects of the bad ignition switch with this model are: 1. The a/c - heater fan blower works intermittently, if you're lucky, and then only on high speed if it does. None of the other speeds work at all. 2. When you try to turn the fan motor on to run the heater or a/c, the headlights go out.while there are different schools of thought on the cause, after researching the internet, one component seemed to correct the problem every time.you must replace the ignition switch.the problem is not the resistor as some seem to think, but the ignition switch.those who replaced the resistor always had to come back and replace the ignition switch.those who replaced the ignition switch had fewer, if any, problems after that.i write this to you because i believe someone "up there" needs to know this information.i simply hope it doesn't fall on deaf ears like most things.i withhold further comment.regards,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
The contact owns a 2003 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the key would inadvertently release from the ignition switch and would continue to operate without it. In another occasion, the key failed to release from the ignition. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed the ignition switch and the wire from shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
Abs brake and trac light in a 2003 pontiac grand prix stayed on.we took the vehicle to a pontiac dealer and he stated that it would cost $925.00 to replace the computer system.it also stated that he would call gm headquarters and see if we could get some help from them.apparently he received word from headquarters that if we had a 50,000 mile check-up at his dealership and pay $425.00 then he gm wouldn't charge us to correct the abs and trac light problem.of course we opted for this because it saved us money.but i wonder if this was a scam and gm wouldn't have charged us anything to fix the abs and trac light system.
When i turn on the blower switch, the blower doesn't work and the headlights go out. It mainly happens on the lower speeds but occasionally happens on high speed also. It is intermittent but happens around 75% of the time. This has been going on for about a year. I have checked all fuses and relays that seem to be related and find no problems there.

I have a 2003 grandprix and the first time i used the hazards on for about 10 minutes the column started smoking.if i turn them on now it will start instantly.the outside brake lights have also quit working as a result.i'm told that it is because of the wiring in the column and that everything goes through a central location which needs to be replaced.apparently by steering the car over time it eventually removes the outer coating of the wiring.i feel that gm should repair this at no cost.i'm also concerned that people do not know of this problem and if they turn the hazards on and walk away, they may not have a car.
In feb of 2003 my pontiac grand prix caught fire after i parked for the evening. Since then, insurance refused coverage for "suspicious in nature. In 2003 pontiac claimed no responsibility, gm's 100,000 mile warranty was a refused. After complaining again in 2006 pontiac called again to say they were not at fault and had no responsibility. I asked them for corresponding vin numbers and was refused. I have located over 15 additional grand prix engine fires where gm / pontiac is claiming no responsibilities. Once ? twice ? 10 + ? i read that nhtsa had begun another investigation in feb 07 and would like more information on this. I would be happy to forward copies of any of my materials including 2 separate fire investigations that claim my fire started by the drivers head lamp under the air filter assembly, including receipts that show where gm serviced my fuel assembly 2 weeks prior to the fire...

I purchased a 2003 pontiac grand prix on 9/19/03 with 12429 miles on the 3100 sfi 6 cyl engine, and now at 65,550 miles, the manifold gasket is leaking and filling the radiator with oil. However, this should not have happened to such a new automobile, and i understand others have experienced the same problem with this engine at 35,000 miles.

Car caught on fire in garage 10 minutes after parking it. On checking the internet, there was a recall on this car, but i was not notified. Nhtsa id #08v118000, issued 3/12/08.owner's letters for recall not sent out by gm because of insufficient parts. "edmunds.com" web site indicates that there have been many incidents of fire, some reported to nhtsa. I have contacted gm and they have been unresponsive.since i have insurance they feel that is sufficient. I am a senior citizen, my car was in excellent condition and paid for. Now i must purchase another car, incur debt, all because gm failed to notify me that there was a defect that needed to be fixed.
"sorry if i'm not using this complaint system correctly"lower intake manifold gaskets need replacement on 2003 pontiac grand prix with only 33.4k miles on it. Bought car new. $1100+ to have fixed. Seems to be a big problem all over america and with canadian lawsuit. Dealership did not offer to fix.
Driver's floor mat is not secure.it keeps sliding forward & interferes with brake pedal.
The windshield wipers worked intermittently. This occurred during a rain storm . The consumer tookthe vehicle to the dealer on 3 occasions and the problem was resolved temporarily. The wiper would not go far enough towards the a-pillar.the dealer readjusted the left wiper arm.the vehicle engine stalled. While driving 40 mph and above the vehicle would vibrate.the technician determined that the driver's side front tire was out of balance and the passenger's side front wheel was out of round..the cd player stopped working while it was playing.the turn signal switch broke off the steering column.
The contact owns a 2003 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the rear tail light failed to provide the proper illumination when the brake was engaged. The tail light housing retained moisture and caused the tail light lens to fail. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Updated 04/30/13*lj
Tail lights are filled with condensation and do not illuminate properly.no replacement parts to purchase that are not defective.
While driving a 2003 pontiac grand prix gtp tried turning on the dash lights at dusk only to find that the dash lights as well as the head lights low and high beam would not come on.after having the dealership look at the vehicle it was found that a plug came loose causing the loss of both low and high beam lights.i find that this could possibly be a safty hazard and fill that the low and high beam should be on separate circuits so as to not loose both lights at night.
I constantly get flashes of high beam from oncoming drivers when driving at night when i have my low beams on. Also, when it rains, the passenger side leaks water under the dash.

2003 grand prix 3800 seris ii engine compartment firesi found that the connection from the fuel supply line to the fuel rail fails when engine is turned off this pools up by the injectors after the owners are well away from the car.there is a web site www.edmunds.com that talks of a oil leak from the supercharger, i think a closer look at the fuel connection is the place the fires are coming from.
The contact owns a 2003 pontiac grand prix.during routine maintenance, the mechanic discovered that there was only a piece of plastic used to close the etr valve at the fuel injector rail.this is where the fuel line connects with the motor.the failure causes the gasket to overheat, and could lead to an engine fire due to fuel leaking into the overheated motor.the contact is afraid to drive the vehicle.there had been no failure to date.
Letter from senator on behalf of constituent re his 2003 pontiac grand prix and recall campaign #07e021000 (dot/i# s 2012 81). 2003 pontiac grand prix. The consumer requested that his vehicle be repaired under gm recall # 07e021000. The consumer stated as a result of the recall, his vehicle caught on fire. In 2003 i purchased a new 2003 pontiac grand prix 3.5l v6 with automatic transmission. I have had it serviced regularly when the instruments have indicated and the owners manual has suggested. At approx 59000 mile i had to have the top and bottom head gasket seals replaced, and the air conditioner costing $2500.00. Then at 68000 miles the transmission was slipping and had to be rebuilt at a cost of $3000.00 (several part along with torque converter). In each case the mechanics stated that this is a known problem with the vehicles and that these parts were inferior.not to mention that i was sold the vehicle with a soon to be out-dated onstar system even though gm new it would need replace within a couple of years.
Abs & tcs lights on & off, stays on most of the time. Serious shaking of front end. When braking feels like pedal kicks back. Shifter gets stuck in park.

I bought a 2003 grand prix with in the first year i had to replace the transmission they charged me 1300.00.
2003 pontiac grand prix gt of mine has a driver's power adjust seat which tends to move forward on its onmost recent date occurred below.
I had one of the worst experiences happened with my car today. Im on my way to the store to get detergent before heading to laundromat. I noticed when i entered the vehicle to start it up that the driver seat was extremely warm which was strange because the car sat overnight and it is winter. As i let the car warm up i realized that the seat became hot and when i started to drive it became hotter to the point where it felt my thighs and rear were burning. I had to put a blanket on the seat just to get some relief. I made it to the laundromat but by the time i'd finished washing and took my belongings back to the car i smelled something burning. That's when i noticed smoke coming from the drivers seat. I immediately took the blanket off the seat and noticed a burn stain on the seat. The seat was still extremely hot and i was in total disbelief. I was really scared to drive home because i didn't know if the car would catch fire or if i would suffer any burns. The crazy part about this is that i never turned on the seat warmer and had not used it for a few days because i try not to use it all the time. Now i have to take off work and take it to the auto shop to see how i can rectify this problem which im hoping will not cost an "arm and leg". Im so disappointed right now. I've had this car for 8yrs now and can say that i never expected this to happen. I just know that this has totally turned me away from the thought of having heated seats in my next car. So sad!!!!
While driving power seat moved forward. Consumer was able to get out of the vehicle. The seat was stuck in forward position and would not move. Consumer turned the vehicle off.

The contact owns a 2003 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that the brakes failed intermittently. While idling at a red light, the engine revved and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice, but they were unable to duplicate the failures more than once. In addition, the key would become stuck in the ignition and prevent the vehicle from being started. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

The car is a 2003 pontiac grand prix.the problem is that at a speed of 35 mph i get a wind noise that comes from the upper part of the window.i can feed a sheet of paper through the door and the window.i have taken the car to the dealer 3 times for the same problem.they tell me its a built in defect in the design of the car.i did not pay $24,000 or more for a built in defect in a car.i bought the car at the end of august of 2003.

I have a 2003 grand prix and the other day on the 15th of feb, i went to open my back passenger door and the hinge and spring fell to the ground. I contacted pontiac and they just told me contact the dealer. I did, and i had to buy the whole part. My question is why would a part of the car that is designedand expectant to last the lifetime ofcar, so why did the rivet end of the detent break? actually it was the rivet that broke but not the arm or the spring. This wasn't due to any type of accident, just open the back door and the parts fell to the ground. I feel that i shouldn't have had to pay for this because the defect. I think i should have the dealer or pontiac fix this and reimburse me for this expense.
I have a 2003 grand prix se and on 2/15/05, i went to open the back passenger door and the hinge and spring fell to the ground. It's the rivet end of the detent that snapped off. I contacted pontiac via emails and they told me to contact my dealer. I did and they told me the part costs $48.20 plus tax which equaled $50.91. My question here concerns the safety of this car if pieces fall off that should last the lifetime of a car. As long as i have owned this car since 4/17/04, there has been no accidents or anything to make this piece break off. Are there recalls for this? i have looked and no is that answer. I don't feel that i had to pay for this part as we feel this is some kind of recall that should be put in place. I appreciate you looking into this as who knows, maybe next time the door will just open up in traffic or something.thank you.
I bought the car in 2009, it was ok for a few months, the place i bought my vehicle provided a carfax and contained 0 information stating no repairs have ever been made. It was then beginning of 2010. It felt like the front suspension or ty rod came apart orbroke. The steering is off and the the suspension jumps when i drive it and the "off trac light came on and has never gone off.then i started smelling smoke or burning smell that was coming from the vents.now i'm being told when i had a radiator flush that the compartment has massive amount of sludge at the bottom.the only way to get rid of that is to get anew radiator.please advise if these complaints have been reported by other same vehicles. I need to know where to take my car for replacement repairs in the joliet/plainfield il. Area.
I have noticed for some time a clang on the front end when i hit a pot hole. I took it in to be checked out on three separate occasions and to three different service places and no one seen anything wrong. Over time it got louder and louder. I took it in this past time and found that i had two very large cracks in both sway bars the worst being on the front left side. The service technician stated a crash was bound to happen if it had gone undiscovered. I have had this vehicle since it was a few months old and it has never been wrecked in is in very good condition. The service technician also stated that this should of never happened considering condition of the rest of my vehicle and my mileage.

Car was parked. I heard a loud "whoosh" noise and then flames came from under my hood. I quickly cut my battery cables to hopefully save my car. I received a recall notice but when i call the dealership for repair they tell me to contact gm motors since the damage (recall) already happened. Gm sent me back to dealer. Please help!
Three seperate incidents (icy roads) when my 2003 grand prix gtp accelerated on it's own(11,000km). Dealer not able to find the problem. Two of the three were near misses of head on collisions in school zones. They said there was no problem because the computer hadn't coded anything. They put the data recorder into car. I caught one acceleration after winter was over. Then the dealerwas a little nicer and didn't treat me like some dumb woman who didn't know how to drive. (maybe somethings wrong with the computer!!) any way they changed the throttle position sensor. I thought yes finally i can drive this car i paid $36,000.00 for and feel relaxed. Well guess what no i don't get to because that was not the problem the car still accelarates when inlow speeds. They are not changing anything else at the moment and want another snap shot. Well they have one, a new one really isn't going to help because they do not want to look at changing anything else. I am already having nightmares of driving this car next winter because i'll never feel safe in it again!! when i asked to trade it in they only offered me $17,500 on their product that is unsafe on which i paid $36,000.00 is still like new and only has 17,000.00km.so when someone ends up killed maybe they won't be so quick to turn their heads away! when i read the articles written by people who have killed someone and claim their vehicle accelarated on them and they could not control it.i know how they feel. The only way i could stop my car was to take it out of drive !!\frustrated
The contact owns a 2003 pontiac grand prix. While driving over 55 mph, the accelerator pedal would erroneously depress, causing the speed to increase. After numerous attempts, the pedal released and the vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure recurred while driving various speeds in 65 degree temperatures or greater. The manufacturer issued a recall for certain model vehicles under nhtsa campaign number: 04v528000 (vehicle speed control); however, the recall expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 162,000.
I own a 2003 pontiac grand prix today is july 6 and within the last 3 weeks i have had all four windows in my car go down and not come back up i have been told that the regulators are all out and that the cost of repair is approx. 636.00 per window is this a known defect?
My driver window stoped working, i checked the harness and it is on tight. The car only has 40,000 miles on it. Should this be happening? is there a recall? my warranty is past and i dont need to be spending the money to have this fixed when i just got the car 7 months ago.
