My daughter and i was involved in an accident. We were going 40-45 mph, when we struck two trees. The airbags did not deploy. We hit right in the center of the car, right at the airbag sensors.

On march 1, 2017, while driving down la vita pass, on hwy 160 east, in colorado, the roads were solid ice. I tried to break lightly, in a touch, release, method, but the sensor on the dash stated (no traction), and would lock the breaks, during the light applied pressure on the breaks, causing me to slide a bit. I hit a vehicle in front of me, (speed aprox. 35mph) causing me to spin into on coming traffic, going west bound. My vehicle was struck in the front, and back, my air bags never deployed. Wanting to report: break problem with my vehicle, and non-deployment of air bags.(can not send you pictures as you only allow 5mb files, and i guess, my pics are larger, and they will not let me send them to you.)

The consumer is reporting that the 2001 pontiac grand prix is an unsafe vehicle, which caused the death of his wife, where the airbags did not deploy, and a trunk that was pushed all the way to the drivers seat. It appears that the passenger in the back had no chance of surviving because of the fragile structure of the vehicle . To the consumer it seemed that the dealerships are longer worrying about the safety of the vehicle but how it looks.please investigate on quality and protection of the vehicle.updated

I have a 2001 pontiac grand prix that had a recall for an oil leak.they did the recall on 6-6-2009.yesterday about 20 to 30 minutes after driving it the car erupted into flame primarily on the right drivers side of the engine.looking at the internet it looks to be identical to others who had this problem. What should i do?

My vehicle caught on fire while in motion. This happened during a trip to nuevo laredo, tamaulipas mexico. It was reported to gm in detail and extensively, a copy of the title, an affidavit and the invoice where the remaining were sold to a junk yard were all mailed to an address provided. I never received a response from gm. Every phone number that has been provided to me leads nowhere. I emailed mr. Jeffrey m boyer vice president of global vehicle safety at gm this afternoon with cc to mr. Anthony foxx the secretary of the department of transportation. See the attached notice. *the date that i am providing is estimated since it happened a long time ago and i don't have my notes with me.

Currently, i'm having some electrical problems with my vehicle with the power windows and hazard lights. Also, i'm having an issue with the fuel system this started occurring three months ago and i feel it's not safe, at times with all issues that my car has it can be terrifying to drive but i can't afford to fix these problems or buy a new car. There are a few leaks coming from my car as well i know one leak is due to the power steering and the other the fuel tank, there might be another leak. Most of the issues i have figured out when my car was parked but some like the electrical problems and fuel issues, i've noticed either turning or driving on the main highway.

The contact owned a 2001 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle bursted into flames. A police report was filed. The fire department extinguished the flames. The vehicle was destroyed. There was no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 189,000.

The vehicle is running and the auto lights turn on at nite, with the fan speed on off position, the lights shutoff when turning on fan. Thenthere is no fan or lights on when to attempt to turn on 1-5 position. Manual lights will work but no fan. Have found out recently it only works on 5. I have installed a new resistor but no luck.has occurred many times and as well has no vent control.

My father helped me purchase a 2001 pontiac grand prix just over a month ago. Originally i noticed a hesitation that would happen twice just for fractions of a second. After the second time this happened i noticed that my tac would drop to 0 then the "trac off" light would come on. On march 9th i was driving through an intersection when the car started hesitation. I was surprised when the car did not pick back up, i am not sure if the engine had completely stopped but my power steering was gone and pushing the gas pedal did nothing. I had to milk the car up to a spot where i had to force the car to turn. I turned the ignition off for maybe a minute then started it back up. My 3 year old was in the back seat crying that she had to potty so i turned around in hopes that the car would make it up to a gas station. When i pulled out the "trac off' light came on and the tac dropped but the car ran fine. I have drove the car another 60miles since and have not even the trac and tac issues since right after the incident. I bought this car because i was scared to have my daughter riding in my old one but now i am more worried about this car. I have spent a lot of time and have found hundreds upon hundreds of post about people having this same issue.

The coolantand abs light stays on. It used to be the engine light but since i have gotten that fixed this is the on-going problem. At least it doesn't affect me passing a smog test now. My biggest issue is the fuel gauge. It will read full or empty and nothing in between. I used to be able to estimate, by checking my mileage when i was near full but it is hard to tell now, because it bounces bath and forth at times. My last issue is heat. It used to work well but now it won't give me heat. The air conditioning system still works great.

On jan 9, 2014, i was parked in my car having lunch with the motor running. For no apparent reason, the engine caught fire, causing the fuel lines to burst. The car was not drivable after that.that evening, when i got home, i had a recall from gm for my vehicle in the mail. (code 07035) i called gm the following day, told them of the incident and they became my best friends, especially when i told them no one was injured.gm made an appointment and had me tow (at my expense) my car to sam swope auto center where it was evaluated.at no time did sam swope say the fire wasn't caused by the recall issue. The bill to repair was going to be $4,700.sam swope said they could not fix without authorization from gm.after 2 weeks of getting the runaround and being asked questions like, "how many pontiacs have you owned" and "how loyal of a customer are you", they decided the car was too old and had too many miles to repair and stated that gm's liability ends 4 yrs after purchase, but did offer to fix the recall. I asked why if they didn't assume any liability after 4 yrs, why send a recall.the rep stated that they are computer generated. I explained that i didn't want to sue anyone, i just wanted my car either fixed or totaled out so i could purchase something else. By the way, i've owned 7 pontiacs, and 12 gm cars total.i'm 62 yrs old. And, the car wasn't a worn out piece of junk.it had every option gm offered including heads up display, bose sound system, heated 6-way seats, sun roof and more.the car is mint. When i purchased in 2005, it had 10300 miles on it. I'd be glad to supply photos as the body wasn't hurt. The gm rep asked me if i had fire and theft on the vehicle and i told him no.in his sarcastic voice, he commented, "well, i guess you should have.i also hired a lawyer, but gm wouldn't budge.can you help me?this is so wrong.

This is not the first incident, this is just the most recent. On monday, 4/7, i was driving on the freeway going home from work in the middle of storm around 5 pm and the shut off. Its as if the key was only turned enough to turn on the battery. This has happened on numerous occasions going as far back as 2012 when i purchased the car. It happens more frequently if i don't remove my car key from the rest of my keys. My power steering locks and the car is unable to turn.

I had the recall work done in nov or dec of 2010. I am driving down hwy 311 in houma, la. I went around another vehicle and as my car went into passing gear i hear a noise from under the hood. I stopped and put gas in my car. As i'm driving down savanne road i hear the noise again. As i'm driving the noise gets louder and worse. On june 10, 2020 the car starts getting hot so i pull over and shut the engine off. Smoke starts coming out the hood and water is all over the ground. Can't find where the water spewed out at or a crack or anything. Fans are constantly not working.this is the second time this happens. Car wouldn't start. Get it started and immediately went straight home. The bearings are going out in the engine. I bought the car in february 2013 and have had problems since march 2013. Ac goes out. I fix it. It works a week or 2 and stops again. Abs light is on but a mechanic cannot diagnose the problem. Service engine light stays on no matter what. The pieces on the outside of the doors have fallen off, once while i was driving. I always have trouble starting it. Changed the battery 3 times.the headlights are not bright and the housings for them are horrible. The sunroof leaks into the dome light. The driver side seat belt gets stuck down and i have to fight with it to get it up to buckle it. The whole car should be recalled and on the list of worst cars numbers 1 thru 20 with others after. I'm getting rid of this car and never buying another pontiac grand prix gt.

Our 2001 pontiac grand prix, which has roughly 125,000 miles on it, stalls and dies at various speeds. It is not supercharged, but it does have the 3.8 liter series ii engine. The vehicle will shudder momentarily and, if the car's going fast enough, the momentum of the torque convert spinning manages to restart the engine in default, allowing it to keep running. However, the tcs "trac off" light comes on and the tachometer drops to 0 until the car is shut off and restarted. Sometimes, the car will stall at low speed and, minus the shudder, everything else occurs as described above, except that the car simply dies. The ses light has lit up a few times, but there is no clear reason for it to do so, since, once restarted, the engine runs just fine. Occasionally, however, idle is a little rough; the engine sometimes drops to almost 400 rpm when sitting with the engine running, then slowly climbs back up to about 600-750 rpm. More alarming personally, however, is the fact that roughly 11 days ago, the car completely died twice on the same day, in a 15-second period. While coming home from work on the freeway, the car completely died (the oil pressure light came on and everything). Having pulled onto the shoulder and restarted, i did not travel more than 100 feet before it happened again, this time on the freeway off-ramp. I restarted again, and it drove home normally.lately, the car is sometimes next to impossible to start. Depending on the circumstances, one of two things will happen; either the engine will turn over but not run; or the engine will not turn over, and the starter solenoid will simply "click" behind the firewall. The battery was replaced less than a month ago, and no serious electrical faults have occurred since it was replaced, aside from the above problems.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.updated 04/20/16*lj

Driving to work december 1, 2011, i noticed a burning smell and then a fire through the dash. I immediately pulled over and removed dash panel and threw snow into dash trying to put out the fire. Within a number of minutes the engine fire was out of control and the car was completely engulfed in flames. This resulted in a complete loss of the vehicle. It is believed the underhood fire was a result of the issue of gm safety recall #09047. The safety recall work was performed by a dealership on may 18,2009. I do not believe this "fix" has prevented the underhood fires on many of these recalled vehicles.

I was pulled over by police for no rear lights. Upon investigation, found multi-function switch bad/jammed. Hazard light button stuck in up position. If pushed to the side and held, lights operate as advertised for some period of time, but will at some point stop working without my knowledge. Multi-function switch is dealer only part. Price is $500 + labor for installation.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. While driving approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle stalled. The battery and oil warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the vehicle was repaired. The details of the repair were unknown. The failure recurred. The vin was unavailable. 2001 pontiac grand prix has lost all lights -- interior and exterior -- at night on highways.this began in february/march 2002 and has continued randomly since for a total of seven different occurrences to-date.it has been in the shop on four occasions, with equipment replacement on three occasions but no resolution.now we are being told that unless the problem is duplicated while in the shop, pontiac can do nothing.considering the fact it only happens after the shops are closed, getting the vehicle there while an occurrence is happening is veryunlikely. *nlmthe consumer stated while stopped at a light, all interior and exterior lights would go out for a few seconds, then flash in a sequence of four times, they would go out for a few seconds and come back on for a few seconds, the scenario continued through the evening.there was also a clicking sound coming from the dash area, as if there was a switch trying to connect. The consumer stated she experienced the lights going out and coming back on for a period of 10 years. The repair shop stated a headlamp lighting circuit breaker located in the dash on the right side needed replaced.the consumer stated the problem has since resurfaced. Updated 04/01/13

I was driving my car in a suburban area at approx 20 mph when i noticed smoke coming out from under the hood.i immediately turned onto a side street and within 15 seconds of noticing the smoke there were flames shooting out from under my hood and the drivers side wheel well.i threw the car into park and got out. A passerby was already calling 911 and within less than a minute of my exiting the vehicle the entire front end was on fire.the fire department arrived and put out the fire and stated that there was so much damage to the front end of the car that they were unable to give a definite cause, but suspected electrical.the entire car is totaled, the fire was so hot it melted the driver window and the windshield and destroyed it within minutes.no electrical issues were noticed immediately prior to this incident, only change noted was that the passenger window rolled up a bit more slowly than normal.

Sometimes the headlights and air will not come unless you stop and restart. It appears to be in the ignition switch.

Vehicle parked over 48 hrs. After last driven passerby honked to let us know car was on fire. Unlocked car and opened hood. Flames present at abs module and surrounding area. Wiring harness and plastics from there across firewall to main fuse box and electrics and plastics on top of engine melting.extinguisher used to put out fire and disconnected battery cable. Removed powder with water hose and surveyed damaged it appears to have started at or very near the abs module/relay box area and spread to fire wall and around towards the battery area from there. This is the gtp edition of the grand prix.

Key stuck in ignition twice first time they replaced ignition switch second time they replace shift modular. Seems to be happening in 2000-2004 model according to my research on the web.

My gas gauge doesn't work and the only time it does is when the needle floats back and forth between e and f. I'm not sure why this is but when i research about it there are many of complaints regarding the same issue. I would just like to know if the reason is a faulty gm part or if this happens all the time.

The drive lights on these vehicles turn off when the heater/ac blower motor is turned on. The headlights will flash on and off and the blower motor does the same. I contacted pontiac and the gal told me that i was out of luck and to take it to a dealer for repair. Other drivers repeatedly flash their lights back at us to let us know that the headlights are flashing on and off.

On my 2001 pontiac grand prix, the all three brake lights are out because of a "multi function switch" failure.lots of owners of pontiac grand prix have this failure.pontiac grand am have a recall -- but not the grand prix. Potential failure mode that causes crashes.

Driving my 2001 grand prix gtp home at approximately 4:15 pm on friday january 18th.the car started loosing power and i pulled over to the side of the road. Heavy black smoke quickly began to come out from the front end of the car and within 30 seconds the car was in flames. Fire rescue proceeded to extinguish the flames. The car appears to be a total loss. This car was in premium condition. 80,000 miles and maintained with records immaculately. The temperature gauge did not indicate any above normal temperature as well as the battery and oil gauges.

The wiring harness under the hood is routed next to the engine, which causes the wires to melt and then the car cuts out/stalls.these stalls happen both at stops and while going down the highway.if not corrected the car may stall causing lose of power to the steering and brakes and then a crash.this first happened at about 36000 and then again at about 70000 miles. I believe that it takes about 30000+ mile before the harness is melted enough to cause the issue. It happened just outside of the manufactures warranty. I called gm twice and asked that they recall it but they informed me that it was not recalled and that i had no way to get it reviewed for recall.the dealers have a service advisor on this issue and i am sure they are seeing several (1000) of these issues a year.also, at about 70000 miles, the positive lead on the battery began leaking acid.gm states there is not recall, but i have found that this is a common is on pontiac grand prix.*sc

I bought the car oct 2003 it had 23000 miles on it and then when it hit 30000 miles that's when trouble started my husband went to check on his brother and turned the car off and was off for 1 hour and went to start the car and it wouldn't stay running took it to the local repair man and he worked on it and nothing 250.00 dollars later he hauled it the gm dealer in independence ks. Where they said it was the anti theft device had me locked out and the had to replace the module. 480.00later. Now when i drive a distance my check engine light comes on and my car acts like it tries to cut out and shifts hard and jerks. And my tract off light stays on now all the time. My last grand prix had 160000 miles on it before it started acting up. My local repair man said that i need to replace the brain module and all my problems well stop. And now when it rains my car feelup with water on the passenger side floor board 2 inches right now so if there is a recall on this car it needs to be the whole car. Right now the car has 51000 miles.

The key gets stuck in the ignition,it does not always do this ,but it's becoming more frequent.i took it to the dealer 30 days after i bought it and they told me nothing was wrong cause the key came out for them ,2 months later it started again and now they are saying the warranty won't cover it and the cost is 600.00 for new ignition.

The key sticks in the ignition.at first, at was intermittent but progressively became worse until the key would not come out at all.took to the dealership and it cost $500 to fix.

This appears to be a common problem.i found many people with the same problem i have and we are screaming for a recall.the ignition switch will go from the "on" position to "off", but will not any further. Therefore, i cannot remove the key from the switch. It does not always do this, but it is becoming more frequent. I can usually leave the key in for a while and when i return, the switch will rotate and the key will come out. This is very frustrating. Any help is appreciated!one person says: i'm having the same problem with mine. Is your problem intermittent? mine is, started one day and works off and on, whenever it feels like it really, works more in warm weather than cold weather. It's weird. My two thoughts are either a loose connection (ground or otherwise) or maybe the btsi solenoid at the shifter base.and the only recall that is current is one for the envoy, trailblazers where you disable the shifter and column over ride feature.please help us - this is very upsetting and i am tired of wondering if day to day the key will come out of the ignition.

Key sticks in the ignition.took the car to the dealership where they replaced a switch in the transmission.this did not fix the problem.the car can be shifted into gear while it is off because of the key stuck in the ignition.

I was sold a lemon car after loosing my vehicle in the flood.first night i drove it after turning ignition lights started flashing rpms dropped, found underneath front of the vehicle is loose as well as water was located in the drivers side tail light and a lot of condensation in surrounding headlights.

2001 pontiac grand prix gtp engine fire. Car was turned off. 5-10 minutes later it caught fire. Was able to get a extingusher and quickly to put it out. Car was parked and engine was off.

Sparks and smoke began coming from the engine compartment.as the police officer tried to open the hood, engine compartment ignited into flames.the fire department had to extinguish the fire.the car was driven approximately five miles.the car ignited while sitting in front of a school.

Came home, parked on driveway. Went inside, heard noise outside. Went back out and the engine compartment was on fire. By the time the fire department put the fire out the car was totaled.

I was on my way to work and had driven it less than 3 miles. I had stopped and turned off the car when i came back approximately 2min later i noticed some smoke coming out of the hood area. When i opened it the center of the engine was on fire, near the engine cover. The best the insurance company could tell it was an electrical fire. None of the original wiring has ever been changed nor had the car been modified in any way.

Car had been parked since previous night until approx 2:45 pm on feb 16, 2007.daughter started car to go to work.car started, immediately followed by dull pop ("like opening a jar of pickles").gray/white smoke appeared from under hood and she immediately killed ignition.smoke continued, she raised hood to find top of engine engulfed in flames.university groundskeepers crew nearby and able to put water on fire until fire dept arrived.fire contained to top of engine and nearby accessories.extent of damage unknown at this early date.

Rear brake lights not working, but third center brake light is working.took to mechanic (pep boys) who changed the brake pads, rotors, brake fluid and replaced the bulbs and fuses, (as well as a motor w/reg for the driver's side rear window, serpentine belt, alternator drive belt, tie rod outer and oil change). When i got the car back, realized they never fixed the problem.returned the car and told it was the multifunction switch at a price of $450.00.this is great considering my bill for everything was $1,500.00, and the problem i brought it in for (brake lights) was never fixed.on web site:http://www.autoweb.com/content/research/forums/index.cfm/action/posts/fid/2831there are approximately 119 complaints all about the multifunctional switch on pontaic vehicles.i am hoping that at some point the issue will be addressed to save other unsuspecting poor souls that bought a pontiac (grand prix gt).

Sometimes the headlights and air will not come unless you stop and restart. It appears to be in the ignition switch.

Engine compartment fire approximately 15 minutes after shutdown.incident 2015-00006331

Got in car and turned ignition key. Heard a loud kaboom and smoke started pouring out from under the hood.no warning lights activated.flames shooting out from under hood. Vehicle was stationary. Sitting in my car port.. Fire company called. Fire extinguished. Engine blown up.

My daughter arrived home: ten minutes later someone was banging on our door letting us know the car was on fire.the fire department arrived and extenguished the flames.it is a total loss and we had liability.we bought the car on february 13, 2014 from an individual.we did not know, but are now aware that there is a recall on this particular make and model for under the hood fire.we had no warning and had not detected any malfunction in the vehicle until this.we are out $3,000.. Will gm reinburse our expenses because of the recall?

It was driving fine and i pulled into a parking lot and noticed that the steering became really hard then smelled something burning so i parked then started seeing smoke come from underneath the hood so i opened it and saw a small flame toward the back of the engine luckily i had a jug of water in the trunk and put it out and there was power steering fluid sparyed all over i'm assuming the fire melted a hose. I had driven my car a short distance and came back home, within 30 minutes it was in flames. The neighbors were outside when it happened and called the fire dept. It burned up the whole front end, state farm isn't coming to investigate because i don't have enough coverage. Gm/pontiac doesn't seem to be too interested, but i am very upset. They made this car, they should have to answer for this. Cars don't just burst into flames for no reason.

I purchased this car in the beginning of november 2016. The first time i started the car after bring it home, it exploded and the motor started burning. The car was parked at 38059 judd rd, belleville, mi 48111 when i turned the key over it exploded. I found out that there was a recall on the vehicle motor leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold that could catch on fire. I called gm on the recall. I sent pictures just as they asked me to. They responded to me that they found the incident was not from the recall, however i could take the vehicle to the dealership and get $650.00. How can they determine the recall from pictures? i have over $2200.00 invested into this car that i purchased less then two weeks before the car exploded. I didn't even drive the car one time after brining it home. I believe that i am getting cheated. I feel that they should at least replace the car with something similar. What can i do to get a better resolution? if you email me i can forward pictures. I am not able to attach the pictures on this page.

Second request...on jan 9, 2014, i was parked in my car having lunch with the motor running. For no apparent reason, the engine caught fire, causing the fuel lines to burst. The car was not drivable after that. That evening, when i got home, i had a recall from gm for my vehicle in the mail. (code 07035) i called gm the following day, told them of the incident and they became my best friends, especially when i told them no one was injured. Gm made an appointment and had me tow (at my expense) my car to sam swope auto center where it was evaluated. At no time did sam swope say the fire wasn't caused by the recall issue. The bill to repair was going to be $4,700. Sam swope said they could not fix without authorization from gm. After 2 weeks of getting the runaround and being asked questions like, "how many pontiacs have you owned" and "how loyal of a customer are you", they decided the car was too old and had too many miles to repair and stated that gm's liability ends 4 yrs after purchase, but did offer to fix the recall. I asked why if they didn't assume any liability after 4 yrs, why send a recall. The rep stated that they are computer generated. I explained that i didn't want to sue anyone, i just wanted my car either fixed or totaled out so i could purchase something else. By the way, i've owned 7 pontiacs, and 12 gm cars total. I'm 62 yrs old. And, the car wasn't a worn out piece of junk. It had every option gm offered including heads up display, bose sound system, heated 6-way seats, sun roof and more. The car is mint. When i purchased in 2005, it had 10300 miles on it. I'd be glad to supply photos as the body wasn't hurt. The gm rep asked me if i had fire and theft on the vehicle and i told him no. In his sarcastic voice, he commented, "well, i guess you should have. I also hired a lawyer, but gm wouldn't budge. Can you help me? this is so wrong.

Our car burned up almost completely, starting in the engine area. The fire appeared after driving and parking the car.policemen and firemen came to extinguish and said car was so destroyed any further investigation would be possible.we have photos of the car and other witnesses.after we had it towed and crushed, gm recall 15757 came out.however they are not applying this recall to our car.do we have any rights?

My car is overheating even though it shouldn't be overheating and i just found out my car was in a recall but for some reason even though i am experiencing the same problem as the recalled ones, it's saying my vin isn't in recall which isn't fair since i am dealing with literally the same issue. Last year it started overheating and my husband and i just started car-pooling with his car. A few months ago everything on the car got fixed and the car was fine until about a week or two after then it was overheating and so now i have to run the heat to keep the car from getting too hot. I had a few people looking at it and they cannot explain why it's overheating like that because the coolant fluids are moving and everything but there is no explanation as to why it is still getting hot. Someone suggested i look into a recall and now i am but it's saying that my model wasn't affected, which clearly is affected.

After driving the vehicle for less than 30 minutes i parked and shut off the vehicle. Within 5 minutes my engine was on fire. The fire department came and put the fire out but the engine compartment and everything in it is a complete loss.

I recently received a recall notice from gm, recall# 15757, first week of march 2016 regarding the engine's front valve cover and gasket to be replaced with new parts due to drops of engine oil that may deposit on the exhaust manifold which could cause an engine fire.i called dealership and was told parts were still not available and i was placed on a waiting list.on april 9, 2016, my car started on fire due to oil leak.the car was parked for 5 minutes before smoke and fire started to come from under the hood.the fire dept. Did come out and put the fire out, however, the entire engine compartment is totaled.i contacted the dealership on april 11th, in which the dealership still did not have the recall parts available.i was given general motor's phone#, contacted them and explained the situation, in which we were told that someone would come out in 48 hrs to assess damage.however, on april 13th, i received a phone call from an advisor stating that further information is needed from me.no one has come out to assess damage as originally stated, as well, i had to email several pictures and paperwork that was requested.when i attempt to contact the advisor through email or phone, she does not respond to any of my inquiries.i explained we are in need of a rental since i'm out a vehicle, however, i was told that is not their concern, as well, it could take 20-30 business days to determine anything.i'm not sure if i should entrust gm to take care of this situation or get legal advice.i also have pictures available from my phone, however, the form would not allow me to upload due to the size.

After having the transmission replaced 2 times by dealership, we had to replace it at 99,000 miles again out of our pockets. The intake manifold exploded in my husbands face in 2012! we also had that fixed for $480.00 out of our pockets. Then on february 22,2013 after parking the vehicle , the engine caught fire within minutes and completely engulfed the car!( we had taken it in for the engine compartment fire recall at our pontiac dealership previously to be fixed.) fire was so severe it went under the car and down the street. We have 4 children and this has been not only a constant inconvenience for us, but a danger to my family! it is time that this be taken seriously.

I was driving on the expressway and as i was exiting i noticed smoke coming from under the hood. As i pulled over to a side street the power steering went out, battery light and check oil lights went on and the car completely died. When i looked under the hood there was a fire. I have not had any problems with the vehicle prior but did take the car in a few months ago for gm recall 15757.

I ended up getting a recall card in my mailbox i called the local dealer for my 2001 pontiac grand prix gtp your tried to make a appointment with them they told me to be would order the parts call me back when they arrived and set up an appointment date well maybe about a week or less later as i was driving heard a loud bang lost most of my compression more than half my horsepower started to spit and sputter and die when i was coming up to a stop sign or light pulled over stopped expected what was going on had the inclination due to the recall notice that the valve cover and valve leak causing oil to drip on exhaust manifold and catch on fire other mine did not catch on fire it did blow my piston up i instantly called my insurance company to get a tow truck to bring my vehicle when i get back home had my insurance company note that there was a recall i did call the company and have been waiting a week or so for a return phone call this was on a friday night i then decided to have to wait till monday for the service department to be open again as i called the local dealership to inform them what happened and that i believed it was part of the recall notice i got they informed me that i could go ahead and pay their outrageous inspection charge and then if it deemed not to be part of that problem i would be liable for all parts and repairs including the recall issue or i can wait another month or two with my blown up motor in my vehicle park in my driveway i told them it was kind of ridiculous that they would literally take a month or two to get me my parts when i could go across the street to an autozone or o'reilly's auto and pick the parts up for them they informed me that if i wanted to bring it in for the inspection right and pay the fees fine if not i would have to sit and wait or i can bring it in and if it was part of the recall fault unfortunately i could not...

I drove to the grocery store, parked, went inside. Five minutes later i walk out to the fire department putting out a fire under the hood of my 2001 pontiac grand prix. The caris completely totaled and was told by the fire department and numerous people that there is a recall on this vehicle for doing that. As of now nothing has been done to correct the problem.

'01 pontiac grand prix gtp caught on fire in my garage 5-10 minutes after being turned off.i had driven the car approx. 7 miles before i got home and parked it in the garage. The fire caused extensive damage to my home and my neighbor's home.

I have read numerous reports of pontiac grand prix's from 1997-2003 catching fire. The remedy offered by general motors was to replace the failed valve cover gasket in the front of the engine (radiator side). The problem is that the failure it is not unique to the front gasket, as the front and rear valve cover gaskets are identical, and the rear one fails and leaks just as much as the front. The reason general motors repairs only the front gasket is that it is fairly easy to replace and is easily accessible. The rear valve cover gasket, however, has a myriad of components in the way that have to be removed and disconnected for access to the valve cover and gasket, which is a much more time consuming and costly repair. Gm denies this fact and forces us to believe that it is only the front gasket that is troublesome. I own three grand prix gtp models (1999,2001,2002) and every one has leaking valve cover gaskets, with sometimes the rear one leaking more than the front due to its close proximity to the firewall, resulting is less cooling and airflow, making it more susceptible to damage from heat, especially for a poorly designed or made of inferior material gasket in the first place. Now i agree that the age of the vehicle may be an issue as gaskets dry up and perhaps crack due to the many heating and cooling cycles over the life of a vehicle, but since gm has acknowledged a gasket problem and has redesigned the gasket, both should be replaced as a measure of responsibility on gm's part, and as consideration for the safety of their customer base. Why gm doesn't do the right thing is anyone's guess, but ignoring consumers complaints on such a serious issue is shameful!.

I bought the car in december 2006 from lafontaine 4399 highland rd, waterford, mi. Some time in february/march i took the car back to them do to the service engine light on. I never was told what was wrong because they said that did not fall under my warrant and plus my warrant supposedly expired. With in the next month my car started to leak oil really bad, i have to put at least 2 quarts in it with in about a week time. Come to find out when i went to get my oil changed i was told that my oil pan looks like it is rusted through. I spoke with a gm employer and was told that the only way an oil pan would do that is if the metal/material used to make the pan is defected, other than that, an oil pan should last it s life time. On top of the them telling me this, i was also advised that it looked like someone had tried to use something to stop the leak, like some sort of weld. Not sure what they meant by that. Next is the wipers, my wipers turn on when you start up the car and then stop at an upright position. I am being told that the wiper motor is going. Come to find out every time i see someone with my type of car, i just have to ask if they have any problems and they do especially with the wipers. I called ponitac on this and for them to consider fixing it, i have to go pay for the dealer to inspect it, then fax it in, and they may cover the fix, but it is not a guarantee. I priced what it would cost and it is a lot of money over 1300.00 for all to be fixed. I do not have this type of money, so for now i just keep putting oil in it, push my wipers down, and hope it does not ran, because the wipers get caught up, and hope the car last. I still owe money so i will do what i can to keep it running. I believe that someone put a quick fix on the oil pan and it was never revealed until i found out myself the hard way. If it is a defect part i do not think i should have to pay to get it fixed.

3.8 liter supercharged engine coolant leak - lower intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant. I have read about the recall or class action suit about the coolant leaks on 3.8 liter engines that are not supercharged. I would like to know why they never included superchared engines. I have a 1997 buick regal and a 2001 pontiac grand prix that were both at a gm dealership and they have this problem and it needs to be fixed.

My 2001 pontiac grand prix, gt and i called the recall number at gm and they said my car was not covered.i want to know why??????????????my carwas smoking like it was on fire. I opened the hood and i found lots of oil on the front rocker panel, around the gasket.the oil was so bad it had leaked down on top of my spark plug covers. I am really scared to drive it. I have also smelled the odor of gas too. When i get into my car to drive it i make sure my doors are unlocked, just in case it catches on fire while i am driving down the road. So i want get trapped inside. Thank you for reviewing this. I hope to hear something back from you soon.

Catalytic converter failure , drive shift failure and o2 sensor failure while driving..complete loss of vehicular power , car locked up.

2001 pontiac grand prix gtp caught on fire after parked at work totaling vehicle and damaging car parked next to me.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix.after the vehicle had been parked for ten minutes, the contact was informed that it was overheating and a small amount of smoke was coming from the engine compartment.she walked to the vehicle and heard a small sound before flames shot out of the hood and underneath the vehicle.the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire.both front tires and all the wiring underneath the hood were completely melted.the vehicle was towed to a shop and has not been repaired.an investigation was found that explained this exact failure, but no recalls were available.the failure and current mileages were approximately 160,000.

For 6 years my 2001 pontiac grand prix gt 3.8l v6 was the ideal car.i never had any problems with it.i fully expected the car to give me at least another 5 good years of service.the car was properly maintained - oil/fluids checked and changed regularly.i had new tires/brakes put on the car 8 mos. Ago and they commented on how great the car ran, especially for it's age.i had them also check all of the belts, hoses, etc. While they were there and they assured me the car was in great shape and i was not even scheduled for a tune up for another 20,000 mi..on sept. 6, 2007, iparked my car, turned off the engine, went inside my home for approximately 5 min., then returned to my car to find smoke and flames coming from under thehood.the fire dept. Responded quickly but the car was a total loss.itwas parked under the carport and had i not been thinking clearly and opened the hood to try to extinguish the fire myself, my home could also have been severly damaged (at best).i have learned over the last 24 hrs. That this very thing has happened to many others.after everything i have read, i don't understand why a recall was never issued or at the very least why i was not made aware that there was a possibility of this happening. I had absolutely no warning.this is more than a minor malfunction or inconvenience.the car is a complete loss and had i not been leaving so soon after shutting off the engine, my home could have been destroyed as well.as it stands, i am without a car (insurance is providing a rental),my carpet is stained with soot, and there is that very distictive odor that greets me when i pull in to the carport and enter my home.a friendly reminder, i guess, to not let my children sit in the back seat while i run inside (15 feet from the car) to grab that letter i need to take to the post office.

My fiance drove our 2001 grand prix gt home yesterday morning at 6:17 am - the car was driving and acting the same way it always did - it was in good condition no signs that there was anything wrong. He parked the car & came inside- the car sat in the driveway till 6:45 am when i drove to work which is 10 miles (at the most) away - i parked it and got out- i drove it the same as i always had & the car itself acted & drove the same way as well - like there was nothing wrong with it - about 7:12 am we got a phone call saying someone's car was on fire - after they described the car & where it was parked i immediately knew it was mine & ran all the way to the parking lot - as soon as i walked outside you could see a huge cloud of smoke pouring out of the hood of the car - as i got closer you could see pieces of material melting & dropping to the pavement, also orange flames where visible under the hood-the fire department came & put it out fairly quickly - the damage of the car was contained to everything under the hood! but it is considered a total loss!!i have seen by browsing on the internet that this has happened to alot of pontiac grand prix gt's.

Original owner of vehicle.in january the car shut off while my wife was driving on a three lane highway.towed to shop and next day the car started fine with no fault codes.a few weeks later the car shut off while warming up in driveway twice.took to autozone to read codes, none again.a few weeks later the car shut off on a three lane highway with two children in car.i was able to get off road safely.a sts auto shop was near by so they took it to the shop.they brought the car in the shop and it shut off once but was closing time so they looked at it the next day.next day the car started fine and they tried to duplicate the problem, but they were unable.no codes again. The car has not been used since.other history, prior to this the car had suffered no start conditions for about five years.each time no codes were present.in the fall 2013 the following parts were replaced.fuel pump, fuel filter, crank sensor, ignition module, fuel pressure regulator.the car is going to have the ignition cylinder replaced next.fyi - i have extensive mechanical background, faa licensed aircraft mechanic with 26 years working on large aircraft (747,777 ect).i would send in cylinder if this is a positive fix.both these shut downs were very dangerous for me and my family.

I am an owner of a 2001 grad prix sedan, 3.1 l v6 engine, with 76,300 miles. On 1 april 2007 i took the car to have an oil change i was told that the coolant leaks head or intake that cannot change the oil to please contact the dealer or a mechanic. On 2 april 2007 i took the car to be service by john hine pontiac, it was then that a service advisor stated that my car needed a intake manifold gasket reseal, and flush/cleaning cooling. I have found out that gm is having a lot of problems with the intake manifold gaskets don't always seal properly. It seems there is a wide problem that gm has not inform consumers and we have to pay to have it fix when it should be the company who should try to resolve this issue at no cost. I am asking for your help in the name of a lot of consumers who are in the same predicament and we all are asking if there is a lawsuit already or how do we ask gm to fix this issue.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that after receiving recall number 09v116000 (engine and engine cooling) she made two attempts to have the vehicle repaired and was unsuccessful. One dealer advised the contact that she would need to have the engine cleaned to have the recall performed which she refused to do. Three months after the contact was denied the recall repair, the vehicle caught fire. The vehicle was parked for approximately 5 minutes and as she proceeded to her vehicle it was in flames. The fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. The fire department stated the a component in the engine caused the fire. A report was filed and is available. The insurance company was notified and paid for some of the expenses. The vehicle was destroyed. I was smelling gas fumes and took the car to a local repair shop and was told i needed to fix it immediately and was advised not to drive it all.the fuel pressure regulator had to be replaced at the cost of $200.i was told that they checked the intake manifold and it was leaking coolant and needed to be repaired soon as well.i contacted pontiac and filed a claim for some assistance since i was told this would cost approximately $700.the mechanic told me that this was a common problem with these cars but usually he did not see this problem at such an early mileage.he told me it happened more when these vehicles had about 60000 to 80000 miles.i bought the car as a certified vehicle with a warranty to 39000 miles.since i barely had passed the warrant miles i called the dealership i purchased the car from.i was told that they could not do the warranty work for me since they were a chevrolet dealership and for me to contact pontiac.i called and asked for assistance on a goodwill warranty or secret warranty.they told me to take it to a pontiac dealership and get it checked.i did at the cost of $37.00 and called them back to confirm what the first mechanic diagnosed.the service manager quoted me up to $900.i asked if they could help me with any assistance.i called several times to pontiac and was told i needed to talk to the customer service advisor i had filed the complaint with.i was unable to talk to her directly and left a voice mail and was told she would get back with me within 24 hours.i have stayed home all day for 2 days waiting and still have not heard from her.i talked to the service manager at buz post in arlington tx and he said he could give me a 10% discount on the parts and would discount it to $600.the additional cost of the $900 was other maintenance items.this is still a heavy burden for me to have to pay.the service manager told me that this was not uncommon to happen at this amount of miles.

In march of 2004 i took my car in for a routine oil change only to be told that i had oil leaking into my radiator, to find out it was trans oil, they put a new radiator hoses and flushed my trans. This was a dealership. Now it is dec 2004 and my low coolant light won't go off and i have a feeling it has too do with something major, i have noticed other people have complained about their intake going. Why doesn't gm doing something about this.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact smelled a burning odor. The contact pulled over into a parking lot. The contact inspected under the hood and noticed flames. The fire department was called and extinguished the flames, which was determined to have originated from the engine compartment. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was repaired prior to the fire under a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 08v118000 (engine and engine cooling). The repair remedy as mentioned in the recall was not performed due to the left rocket cover gasket availability however, the wire loom and spark plugs were replaced. The contact experienced the consequence of a fire as indicated in the recall defect, as a result of the insufficient remedy previously performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

The front passenger side window would not go up. The regulator had to be replaced at a cost to the owner.then antifreeze started to leak onto the engine.the problem has not been repaired to date.*scthe intake manifold gasket was replaced and the fuel pressure regulator was replaced.

My wife drove our 2001 pont. Grand prix gt approx. 12 miles from our home to a pet store. Parked the vehicle and proceeded into the store after approx. 5 mins. Later someone said there was a silver car on fire in the parking lot. Well unfortunately it was ours. A bystander opened the hood and dumped snow on it and another retrieved a fire ext. And were able to put the fire out. Fire originated in the engine compartment. 911 was called and fire dept., police and fire marshall were on scene. Car has been well maintained with regular service. I see no reason as to how this could have happened. Thankfully it didn't happen when my wife was driving along the highway. Looking forward to a response as to what i see this seems to be an almost common occurrence.

September 2007: 2001 pontiac grand prix gtp burst into flames while parked in driveway, about 10 minutes after it had been driven on a trip for about 40 miles.neighbors noticed fire and call fire department, who put out fire.engine compartment destroyed, passenger compartment not affected, but car was deemed total loss by insurance company.six months previous car had been serviced for running rough, mechanic replaced mass air flow sensor, but also noted smoke from the valve cover gaskets leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold, with "a little bit of oil wetness around the intake manifold". Unfortunately we didn't get this repaired because of cost at the time.

On 3/3/07 my 2001 grand prix gtp spontaneously caught fire after being parked for approximately 10 minutes.the fire originated in the engine compartment.

My 2001 pontiac grand prix gtp has had problems with the car stalling and dying without warning.it is very random.typically, the car hesitates/stalls then the "tcs off" light comes on and the rpm meter hits 0. I have researched many forums online that reveal that many owners are experiencing the same problem.when hooked up to the computer, it reveals that the problem is with the crankshaft position sensor.this should be recalled and repaired immediately.it is very disappointing that so many owners are having the same problem without any relief from the manufacturer.

Drive like normal to and from work. Wont drive anywhere else as it constantly smokes from the engine. I have no heat and the smell from the engine is horrible. Still awaiting to hear from gm as to when i can get it repaired as it is a 2001 model which is still awaiting its official recall and parts notice. I live in massachusetts and it is going to be a wonderful winter with no heat. Can not afford to fix myself.

In the past i've owned a 1994 pontiac grand prix gtp which had a oil pan gasket leak and i beleive this is a major problem in this vehicle. Now i own a 2001 pontiac grand prix gt and it is very strange that i'm having the same problem in this car the dealer is asking $671.00 to repair this problem and i think something should be done to correct this and i don't beleive i'm the only person to discover this and if there is a such recall please let me know. My 2001 pontiac gtp grand prix's engine caught on fire 10 to 15 minutes after i walked away to go to work. The car is a total loss.

2001 pontiac grand prix recall for front rocker arm gasket.consumer is having a problem with getting the recall performed. *njthe consumer went to the dealer 2 times to try and get the recall fixed. The first time she was told the replacement was not needed and if she paid $75.00 the dealer would steam clean the engine to verify a possible oil leak. The second time she visited the dealer, she was told she neededto pay $400.00 to replace a seat belt tensioner so the technician could replace the valve cover gasket. The consumer stated the vehicle caught on fire.

The engine/hood area caught on fire. This vehicle was part of the a gn recall. I called it in, and a case was initiated (case [xxx]), it was later turned into a claim, and i submitted all the requested paperwork timely. I never received an update after that. I have been calling the gm customer service line and i was told that the case was forwarded to central claims. The central claims department informed me that since it was pre-2009 i had to contact motors liquidation corporation. Motors liquidation corporation has confirmed that they have not included my claim in the bankruptcy case. I would like to know if you can give me some guidance, or is there any legal authority that can obligate them to reopen my claim, or just provide a resolution. It's frustrating to think that they can just "disappear" such an aggravating incident in the system.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2001 grand prix gtp. Engine fire. The car was driven roughly 5 miles."no hard braking". Parked and was on fire within 10 minutes. Total loss. This happened about a month ago. Roughly a month after getting the notice from gm about a pending recall.

I'm not sure on all dates of car problem's. Carfax has all that information. It's been in the shop 6 times, now my service engine light has come on again. This will be the 7th time within 1 year. One thing was fixed 3 time's in same month,i beleave.the dealer ship in tx, said the dealer ship in il never fixed it the first 2 times.

There is a recall notice sent out by gm regarding the possibility of an engine compartment fire for the 2001 grand prix (among other date for the same model). Tonight when i started the car there was an explosion and the engine burst into flames. The fire department was called and they came to extinguish the fire after the car was engulfed in flames. The assistant fire marshall arrived and before he said anything else he said "this was caused by an engine compartment fire." i the n advised him that pontiac has just sent a recall notice for the same issue. There are hundreds of people online who have filed a complaint with gm. Yet, they insist they are not responsible. Why did they issue a recall then if they are not responsible? unfortunately for them, our attorney general is going to take action. I'm not the type of person to sit back and watch when an injustice was done. I had to drag my handicapped son from the vehicle. This, as well as all of the complaints points to disaster. Something must be done now. My son could have been killed if i was unable to act quickly enough to save him.

2001 pontiac grand prix.consumer writes in regards to vehicle fire under hood after recall 15757- under hood fire repairs. The consumer stated despite having the recall performed, on march 18, 2016, the vehicle caught on fire anyway on july 10, 2016. The vehicle was declared totaled.

Lower and/or upper manifold cracked/ gasket 4 times. 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008- leaking engine coolant. The first 2 times the repairs were covered under warranty. In july 2007, had it repaired again at the pontiac dealer for $1000. Discovered problem has re-occurred and coolant is leaking again as of dec. 2008. Cannot afford another repair out of pocket. Just trying to keep coolant levels up by re-filling and keeping it parked away from the house and other vehicles for fear of fire.

I purchased my certified gm used vehicle in october 2004- 2 months later i had to replace the serpentine belt and have the transmission 'solenoid' replaced, front brakes and rotors .some 100+ point inspection . In nov of 2005 i took the vehicle back in due to improper shifting, there i was told they had to do a lot of transmisson work. They had my car for 2 days. Now in april of 2006 my car barely makes it to 40 mph, chugging all the way. The mechanic referred me to the dealership because there is no fuel problem and the computer needs to be checked-possibly replaced. A car with 65000 miles on it should not have this many problems.

The car still start but it doesn't sound good probably melted the spark plugs wires i'm sure .

I have three complaints.1.window issues: i have had to have repair work done on two windows.the first one fell down and was repaired without having to replace the motor or anything, but it still cost about $150 in labor.the second time i had a window not working, it was the switch in the door.my parents have a car like mine and have had to have expensive window mechanics replacement done as well.2.another problem i am having now is with the switch for the rear lights.it has quit working and the part alone will cost about $350.the mechanic says that he has had to replace several of these himself, and he is a private businessman.there should be a recall on this problem that recurs with the grand prix because it is definitely a safety issue.3.in checking after my mechanic said there should be a recall about the rear light switch, i have found 5 recalls for which i have never received any notification.i do not know where to begin to get these corrected.

Sometimes the headlights and air will not come unless you stop and restart. It appears to be in the ignition switch.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that condensation accumulates in the tail lights and the safety flashers cause them to blow out.the failure occurred three times since the vehicle was purchased.this issue has caused the contact to receive a warning from the local law enforcement due to the tail light failure.the contact believes that a recall should be issued because this is a safety issue.the current mileage was 111,000 and failure mileage was 103,000.

The map lights wont turn off. Its not registering my door being shut i have replaced everything on the door but it still gives me this problem. Its dangerous especially when driving.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix.while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the brake lights were not working.the fuse and bulb were replaced, but the failure remained.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and they stated that the multi-function switch failed.the replacement will cost $400.the dealer information was unavailable.the current mileage was 82,300 and failure mileage was 82,250.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix.he noticed that the brake lights were not working and the hazard light switch was stuck.the contact changed the bulbs and the fuses; however, the failure continued to occur.the manufacturer stated that they were aware of the failure but they have not received enough complaints to start a recall. The failure and current mileages were 70,000.

2001 grand prix dual air, heat, radio and cruise control does not work. Abs light remains on at all times. ***nar***the vehicle was leaking coolant. The brake switch had to be re-adjusted. The evaporator core was replaced.

Multifunction switch/hazard switch stuck/not working causing no brake lights.

Exterior lighting:headlights, engine and engine cooling.

Headlight lenses fell off whendriving. Moisture got on bulb, causing it to burn out, unable to see.contacted dealer. Had part replaced; however, problem reoccurred.

I was sold a lemon car after loosing my vehicle in the flood.first night i drove it after turning ignition lights started flashing rpms dropped, found underneath front of the vehicle is loose as well as water was located in the drivers side tail light and a lot of condensation in surrounding headlights.

Tail light seals do not work and keep filling with water not allowing the brake lights to be seen! they were replaced once and are leaking again.

When the consumer activated the turn to signal to indicate a lane change, there was a very rapid clicking of the turn signal relay.the lightindicator on the dash did not flash, but from the clicking noise, the consumer thought the turn signals were operating properly, the consumer finally discovered the rear turn signal light flashed twice of its normal speed, however the corresponding front signal was not flashing at all.*scc

I drive a 2001 pontiac grand prix & in august of 2003, my "service engine soon" light came on..i took it to a dealer, faulkner pontiac, in trevose, pa who stated there were "no leaks found & reprogrammed pcm with updated calibration." then in mid february 2004, my "service engine soon"light came on again. My mechanic said it may be an emissions related problem & to take it to my dealer, in case it will be covered under the emissions warranty. (80,000 miles) i am presently at 44,000 miles. The light was coming off & on and on wed. March 17, 2004, i took my car to fairway automotive group, jenkintown, pa. They said after running a diagnostic, found: "diag scan found po440 performed smoke out test found fuel tank leak! they said my car could have exploded or caught on fire! and this is not a recall? i contacted gm monday march 22, 2004 to no avail, to my satisfaction. I feel i could have been driving a dangerous vehicle for the last few months, or even since february & i'm very concerned about this fuel tank leak. Of course i had it fixed by fairway automotive group, about $370.00 later & feel this should be a recall by gm. Your help is apreciated.thank youdona.

My gas gauge doesn't work and the only time it does is when the needle floats back and forth between e and f. I'm not sure why this is but when i research about it there are many of complaints regarding the same issue. I would just like to know if the reason is a faulty gm part or if this happens all the time.

Our car gas gauge moves up and down. I can fill it up , then the next it goes to e and the fuel light comes on warning you to get gas. The needle goes to full to empty moves back and forth. I saw this is happening on gm models. This is a gm. Is there a recall yet.

The front passenger side window would not go up. The regulator had to be replaced at a cost to the owner.then antifreeze started to leak onto the engine.the problem has not been repaired to date.*scthe intake manifold gasket was replaced and the fuel pressure regulator was replaced.

I own a 2001 pontiac grand prix and maintain my car on a regular basis.yesterday, after returning from a lunch trip during my work day, i parked my car in my office parking lot and a few minutes later i was paged telling me that my car was on fire.i have checked online to see if other 2001 pontiac grand prix owners had a similar problem - and there are.however, the only recall that exists (not by gm) is by delphi - who manufactured the fuel pressure regulator - which i'm told the fuel could leak and result in a fire.i have contacted gm and they told me there were no recalls.i believe this fire was caused by a gm product liability.

Dt:the contact stated there wasa hole in the return fuel line. While drivingshe smelled gasoline ,and the vehicle started to smoke.she raised the hood and saw gasoline coming out on the top of the motor and running down tto he engine.this previously happened, and the dealer told her that a mouse chewed a hole in the return fuel line.the vehicle has not been to a service dealer to determine the cause of the problem.she has not contacted the dealer or the manufacturer for this incident.

Car made a poof noise when cranking then fire erupted from the engine.

2001 pontiac grand prix gtp engine fire. Car was turned off. 5-10 minutes later it caught fire. Was able to get a extingusher and quickly to put it out. Car was parked and engine was off.

My daughter returned home after a five minute drive and parked our 2001 grand prix gt in our driveway.15 minutes later the vehicle had smoke coming out from under the hood.i tried to open the hood but the latch must have melted.by the time the fire dept came out and pried open the hood the whole engine compartment was engulfed in flames.they put the fire out but it was to late, the car was subsequently totaled by our insurance company.i had a gm investigator come out to see the car and he took many photos.i kept this car in immaculate condition.always hand washed and waxed it.all repairs done at the dealer.at 97,000 miles the car looked and ran like new.after talking to others and doing some research it appears this fire may be due to a fuel leak involving the fuel rail.the last repair at the dealer involved replacement of intake manifold gaskets in may of 2007, which are located around the fuel rail. Gm has not gotten back to me regarding this investigation.this car had the gm 3800 series ii v6 engine on the odi investigation ea07-008.something should be done soon before some one loses their life, home, etc.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix.on september 19, 2007, the contact smelled something burning and then noticed smoke rising from under the hood.the engine compartment became engulfed in flames.the fire was extinguished with a yard hose.the vehicle has not been towed to the dealer at this time.nhtsa campaign id number 07e021000 (fuel system, other: storage:tank assembly:pressure relief devices) was referenced.the vin, purchase date, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 90,300.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix.after being parked for ten minutes, the vehicle was found smoking and engulfed in flames.the fire department extinguished the fire and a report was filed.the vehicle was destroyed.nhtsa campaign id number 07e021000 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly: pressure relief devices) was referenced.the contact just recently learned of the safety recall; however, she never received a notice.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 100,000.

I started smelling a strong gasoline smell - so opened the hood to check what was the cause.i took off the engine cover and discovered that the 3/8" quick connector at fuel rail was dripping fuel all over the intake manifold. Yikes!!!the potential for a fire is/was huge.i do not know how long this has been happening.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. While warming up the parked vehicle in the driveway, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal a few times and the vehicle exploded. The impact caused the contact to black out. The contact noticed flames and black smoke. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. The contact required medical attention due to pain in her neck, shoulders, chest, and back. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the vehicle began leaking oil and smoke appeared under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000

Car just dies while driving replaced mafsensor map sensor was replaced previous. Took car of problem. 2 month later sputtering code came back catalytic converter. Had that cut off. 2 weeks later car won't start changed crankshaft sensor started but misfire coil packs changed and ignition control module. New spark plugs and wire. Car started ran perfect. Next day car wouldn't start. Went back to shop mechanic started looking at some wires car wouldn't still start. Next day car starts up just fine n running perfectly. When its not starting it will crank just not fire. Haven't checked to see if it will run yet today though. Brought it home yesterday. Could a key cause it to crank and not fire.

As i was driving (approximately 1 mile from home) i let up off of the accelerator because i was almost ready to turn o to my destination, when i took my foot off of the accelerator the engine began revving up and the accelerator went to the floor, the rpm needle went up to 7 and it sounded as if the engine was going to blow. I put the car in neutral and had the brake pedal to the floor and the car was scooting as if it was still in gear and trying to pull itself. I had to put the car in park to get it to stop and i turned the engine off.after sitting there and calming down because i was scared to death, i started the engine and it ran normal, i probably shouldn't have but since i was so close to home, i drove the car home without any issues and am now afraid to even start the car anymore. Is this an issue with this vehicle? i had my grand daughter and 2 of my daughters in the car with me and am grateful that no one was injured.

2001 pontiac grand prix had equipment failure while driving. Consumer was able to pull off the road safely.the consumer stated the hood flew up into the windshield blocking his view and caused damage to the vehicle. Ohio traffic report # 10-0364-91.

The egr valve and gasket were replaced. The sunroof was leaking and the alternator was replaced. The left front cv boot was leaking and the left front hub bearing was noisy. The ignition cylinder, parking brake, power steering hose, pump seal, rack and pinion and outer tie rodwere replaced.

I bought my pontiac grand prix gt (3.8l) in late '01, i mostly serviced everything with my original dealership where i bought the vehicle.after about 3 years (under the mfg warranty) the car began hesitating when accelerating uphill & under load at about 50-60 mph, i brought the car to the servicedepartment (at the dealership) the took me for a road test where the problem was duplicated then they did some diagnostics (charged me for it) but they could not find any specific problem (no codes either).my father has a chevy impala ls '00 and he has the exact same issue, so i decided there must be some kind of issue with these cars that gm service people should know about.so i called the gm service center, left a message & a technician called me back only to tell me that there's absolutely "nothing" he can tell me more about it and there's no knowissue / he has no idea why both of our cars (similar makes) have developed the same issue. I went all over the place to many different & independent mechanic shops to no availability.i finally was told that there's a known (& confirmed) issue with these vehicles (this was an issue from '99 to '01) and that the problem was a faulty pcm (powertrain control module).so i called up my local dealership to find out the price, which they told me would be over "$900.00" for the part plus labor charges... I thought that it would be nice of gm to offer me some repair for this faulty part that has driven me nuts for years, but they refused to do anything even a request to simply update the pcm software free of charge was denied to me.so i checked in to a dealrship & ordered the pcm software updated, the problem was resolved!so after going thru all the suggestions & eliminating part after part myself, i finally figured it out! the problem was faulty software on the pcm (power control management) chip that was reflashed & now works flawlessly.shouldn't gm at least reimburse me for this?

Hello, i purchased a 2001 pontiac granprix gt in june of 2004, i paid cash for the car and have been having problems with the transmission since the first week i bought it. I feel i have been getting the run around on getting it fixed properly. I have had to fight my wat through the dealer (laura buick pontiac gmc) in collinsville, il. In getting this fixed. They did finally replace the transmission in december of 2004. At this time then the car was hit on their lot and had to get that fixed and had to argue with them over that repair. They did repair it weeks later.i took the car back to laura buick of collinsville to have the transmission looked at again due to it was having the same problems at this time they stated to me that they drove the car and found nothing wrong with the transmission itself, but did here some wining making aleft turn and that it was the power steering rack needed to be repaired and the cost of that would be $862.00, at this time i don,t have the money to get the car fixed so i went to pick up my car and they told me i had to pay $65.00 to have my car released to me. I don,t feel i owe this money because i was told that he test drove the car so before anything extra was performed i should have been notified of any additional fees. I have not been satified with this purchase since i bought the car and i can go into deeper detail if needed. All i,m asking for is to have the satifaction of my car being repaired-- they got what they wanted and that was the satifaction of selling the car to someone like me.please help!an unsatisfied customer.

After driving from tallahassee, fl to jax, fl car sounded as if was stuck on gravel while leaving from a red light. At next redlite, a loud grinding noise at takeoff. Pontiac grand prix 2001:was hit by another car in the left rear while car was at red stop light waiting for green light, spinned, went on to "automatic" drive and hit fire hydrant on the right side fender. The impact may have been too great to cause the vehicle to move passed median and still hit a fire hydrantand stop sign at the intersection. My wife suffered multiple injuries, i.e., broken ribs, neck wounds, organ burst, etc., that killed her at the scene. I have seen a car that went on "crazy spin" after running over a piece of tire on the road. I have been bothered by that incident which happened just a month after my wife's death and began to question the design of front wheel driven cars that go on to "automatic" drive after any disturbance.the other car that hit my wife's car is smaller and it must have been moving over the speed limit of 35 mph to have to cause the grand prix to develop that much motion and move at random.. And it must be the mechanism or transmission that triggered it to move. Theorize that the grand prix was at stop and brakes applied, car would not move the distance it had if not undergone "automatic". There were previous reports about front wheel cars/engines before they became common.the grand prix's on-star did not activate or function, also the air bag did not deploy. It was not physically possible for the grand prix to move that much distances if attributed only to other vehicle hitting it.the grand prix pro-performance claim was something that have been put together without safety checks. Non-deployment of the air bag also had delayed rescue and the "on star" claim of immediate alert did not work.how safe are the front wheel cars now?i have to read back popular mechanics magazine1978's back issues to find the article on the front wheel drive cars.i feel that the speed of the other car was not the factor that made the grand prix go on random motion. There must be fuel injection mechanism/component problem.

On a cold start the car will not go into gear until it warms up.happens everytime as long as the car has sat for a few hours.

Transmission failure.

Purchased used 2001 pontiac grand prix in june, 2007.complained to auto dealer that cars transmission was slipping.they test drove vehicle and stated it was ok.had vehicle s transmission tested a few months later - it is bad per transmission place.auto dealer states he will put in tranny at cost of 1,700 to 1800.transmission center offered to put in tranny for 1200.he will not match the cost nor pay for it.i feel he is partially liable for this as he sold it like that.please advise me of what legal rights i have as a consumer.

My 2001 pontiac grand prix gtp has had a grinding noise since 8/31/04.on 9/1/04 it would not go into reverse last night.i took to the dealer and they found the transmission shut.theyre quoting approximately $2,700 to put in a new transmission.i cannot believe that this would happen to a 3-year old car with 45,000 miles on it!

Oil leakage from valve covers, transmission failure, hub assembly failure, traction system failure. Problems with only 60,000 miles gm will not acknowledge responsibility or assist in paying for repairs. Found many similar complaints. Should not have these problems with low mileage on this vehicle which was purchased new and well maintained. Told by certified mechanics that these problems should not have happened.

My front passenger side brake line burst suddenly under braking while exiting the highway at 70mph. It appears all other lines are rusty as well and could result in another failure. I love in minnesota so salt could contribute, but it was definitely corporate negligence. The agency failed to issue a recall for this in 2015 for gm trucks. I think this is a much larger issue for all w-body gm cars as well. I was fortunate enough that the exit ramp had a yeild turn onto the next road instead of a stop. This could have killed me and will kill people if nothing is done. Please take action and look into this.

Came up on a car stopped at stop sign. I applied my brake and felt the brake pedal give. I did not have brakes. No warning light appeared. I had to veer to left of stopped car, go around stop sign onto a highway. Very few cars on highway. Had to let car slow on it's own and was able to go two miles to stop. Brake fluid pouring out from underneath car. Possibly a rusted brake line. However there was no warning. Narrowly escaped bad wreck and possible deadly crash. Will have it towed to mechanic to determine cause of no brakes or warning.

A car sped out from a stop sign on my right into my lane and slammed on their brakes to make an illegal left turn.i had to slam on my brakes.my car slowed to within a couple of feet of their bumper and then i lost braking.my brake pedal continued toward the floor and my car continued forward.the pedal went to within a few inches before the floor where i could feel the brakes "re-engage" and i was able to completely stop my car within a couple of inches of their bumper.was able to make it the next 12 miles to my home and checked the steering fluid reservoir.it was empty and there was a line of big drops behind my car from where i turned to park. Poured over half a bottle of brake fluid in the next day, pumped the brakes.not better.i backed my car out of the space and there was a puddle where the rear of my car was and the reservoir was again empty.looked under the back of thecar and everything was wet from the driver side to the middle.car towed for repair that day and mechanic found rusted brake line.

I have had nothing but trouble with this pontic grand prix gt window motors three abs brake brain leaking coolant ihave spentover 3000 dollars repairing this car and now i have coolant leaking in my motor. By far the worst car i ever had shame on you gm you had to know.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. The contact stated that she had recurring failure with her anti-lock brakes. While braking, the abs and traction service lights illuminated on the dashboard and a "grumbling" sound can be heard coming from the brakes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the hubs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired independently. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000. The current mileage was approximately 72,200. Updated 12/21/10updated 12/23/10

Consumer states of having problems with the abs system .dealer was contacted, it was found that the wheel speed sensor on the right front was damaged by a foreign object or debris from the road which may have caused damage to the sensor wiring, the consumer believes that this component should be protected by a small shield to prevent this from occurring. The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that the normal brakes work, but the vehicle skids occasionally when coming to a complete stop.he stated that the abs and traction control system were no longer working properly.the dealer stated that the wheel speed sensor harness was very hard and brittle.the wheel speed sensor harness was replaced by the dealer.the speed and failure mileage were unknown.the current mileage was 71,000.

The steering on this car exhibits "play" at the center point of the steering (car going straight, not turning) and has from the first day i owned it.it feels as if it has a worn out steering box similar to a high-mileage, old car with recirculation ball type steering box instead of a rack and pinion. This play causes the car to drift to the left or right when driving straight down the road. This condition is exaggerated in rain or snow/ice conditions when the lack of steering input and "feel" causes one to over-compensate thinking the car is sliding. It is very disconcerting.despite my many complaints, the dealers have told me this play is "normal" and "within specifications" and refused to discuss the subject. This is ridiculous. I have driven similar cars, with much higher mileage, and their steering has no play what so ever!although there has been no "incident" as a result of this condition (yet) it is indeed a safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac grand prix. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. In addition, the power steering fluid was leaking from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 140,000.

2001 pontiac grand prix engine oil leak, interior water leak at passenger door *cwthe dealer informed the consumer that the water leak may have been a result of the door being misaligned. The ignition cylinder, parking brake, power steering hose, pump seal, rack and pinion and outer tie rodwere replaced.

My 2001 grand prix supercharge has blinking security light , check engine light, error code po102 and it keeps dying after i drive it for a little bit. I changed maf and it still dies.

When attempting to turn leftsteering column locks.consumer heard a loud thump sound when turning into a parking space. When the consumer attempted to straighten the wheel but it was hard to turn.once the wheel became straight again the consumer drove it home.while in route the consumer noticed it was difficult to make left turns because the steering wheel started to bind. *ph *nlm

When making a turn there is a loud noise coming from steering column. Please provide additional information.

For a period of one yearsteering wheel had been loose.in one instance, steering wheel adjuster button popped off while driving, and the steering wheel fell into the driver's lap. Dealer had attempted to repair the steering wheel, but had not solved the problem.

My key became stuck in the ignition....i can start the car & drive but i have to use the emergency release that you access through the bottom of the steering column.my mechanic told me that it has to be brought to the dealer to fix...

2001 pontiac grand prix with only 40,000 miles the rack and pinion went out.

Rack and pinion (3rd failure) the rack and pinion steering has failed 3 times on my pontiac grand prix gt.

While making either a left or right hard turn the steering fails. After working the steering wheel back and forth it becomes free again. This has only happen at low speeds so far. After checking with the dealership i found out that this is a common occurrence and customers pay to have the knuckle at the rack and pinion replaced. There was a recall on the same item for 1996 through 1998 cars exhibiting the same problems. Would you please investigate further.

While trying to make a left turnin my 2001 grand prix pontiac the steering locked up.this almost caused a head on collision.the steering to the right was unaffected.the local dealer replaced the power steering rack and pinion steering which cost me $971.00.this defect should bea recall item.

Upon making a left turn i proceeded to park.when i left the parking lot to i had no power steering turning left.i took the car to the dealership and it was the entire rack assembly.i had my children with me and am thankful i was not on the highway when this happened.i was only about a year out of warranty with only 32000 miles on the car.repair cost was $1000 for parts and labor.

When accelerating quickly, the first shift of the automatic transmission grinds.

Accelerator pedal got stuck while merging into traffic. After merging into traffic i removed my foot from the gas pedal but the car rpms were continuing to go higher. Inmediatelly hit on the brakes and the car was stopped but the engine was revving. Then i put the transmission in neutral and turned of the engine.with the engine off and my hazzard lights on, i pushed on the gas pedal several times until it returned to the normal position. I re-started my car and the pedal was again fine. This happened in des plaines illinois at around 7:45 am. Not sure exactly how cold it was, but i guess it was around 15f.i noticed that there was a recall for the 2005 model cars for an issue with the springs failing. Gm recall 05018. I called the dealer, but they said there are no recalls outstanding for my car.

The consumer could hear noise while the a/c was on, the vehicle was taken to a dealer twice where they replaced a weak sprig tensioner once and then the alternator, the consumer could still hear the noise but it wasn?t as bad, but while driving with the cruise control on the vehicle suddenly accelerated causing the vehicle to spin around the proceed down a 70 foot ravine and bottom out, the consumer feels the cruise control may have been the problem all along, also during this accident the air bags failed .nlm

I own a 2001 pontiac grand prix gt, 4 door.on three separate occasions the motor on the automatic windows has gone out on three different windows.all three times the motor was replaced by a pontiac dealership.the last time was november 2004 and the warranty was expired.because this was an ongoing problem i fought the $500 bill with the dealership and eventually gm fixed the window at no cost to me.a friend of mine has a government issued pontiac, same year, make & model.she has had two window motors replaced.

A few days ago, i've had a third window malfunction. Three my windows dropped down inside of the door. The first window did this the first week i bough the car(7/06) and was not covered by my warranty. Driver and passenger side front and rear windows have had to be replaced within 1 year. When vehicle was taken in for first window, they could not "duplicate" the problem, worked fine for them, but not 2 days later after the warranty was up, the window would not roll up or down.since then 2 more windows have been replaced.
