The vehicle was traveling at 65 miles per hour when all of sudden the air bag deployed. Manufacturer was contacted by owner.

On july 26, 2004 my 1995 pontiac grand prix's air bags deployed for no reason. I was exiting my garage and as i proceeded forward about 5-10 feet the air bags both went off shattering my windsheild. It burned my face, hands and my arms. I was taken to the emergency room and diagnosed with multiple first degree burns. I immediately called my insurance company and explained what had happened. I was told that it was a manufacture defect and that if there was no collision that it was not my insurance responsibility. I then called gm and explained to them what had happened. I was told that an investigator would come to check things out. Meanwhile i have to rent a vehicle. Approx. 10 days later gms investigator arrived to take my statement, pictures and took the mdules from the car to bench test. At that time i was told that gm would probably reimburse my rental expenses. 7 weeks into the investigation and now gm wants to purchase my vehicle. I still to date am driving a rental at my own expense.

The u joint steering sphere broke in half and left the steering wheel inoperative. Consumer states air bag light coming on and radio controls are not working, also 2 nd gear start not working, which contain a gear short, also head lamp bezels are warped at bottom, headlamp was replaced .

Alternator failed at 35000 miles and the replacement failed at 78000 miles. Second failure is at owners expense $404.00.failure noted by slowdown of turn signal blinking rate. Measured voltage output and confirmed failure before taking to dealer. This is unacceptable failure rate, either bad design of component or bad location (excessive heat).

Pontiac released a recall of 1997-? grand prix's due to a severe engine oil leak that can cause the car to catch fire.we have a 1995 grand prix with a 3.1l engine that has a severe oil leak also.the leak has been diagnosed from the lower intake manifold gasket with a $1000 repair estimate.i believe the engine is almost identical to the ones used in 1997-? model years.pontiac should include all grand prix's with this engine in their recall!

Intake manifold gasket went out on 1995 pontiac grand prix. Car was in rush hour traffic when the gasket went; causing the oil to quickly leak from the engine and leaving car inoperable in traffic. Did not realize this was happening until car smelled of oil and smoke started coming from under the hood. It created quite a dangerous situation in the middle of the roadway. No prior warning of failure was evident.car was towed to repair facility where both intake manifold gaskets were replaced. Very labor-intensive and very expensive repairs. Gm dealership and ase-certified mechanics acknowledge the fact that this failure is a common problem.

The problem with the abs:usually occurs within the first mile driven after start up.when the brake is applied, the pedal goes way soft and car lurches forward.a mechanical sound is heard and the abs light then comes on.i am unsure if the abs works or not after that, but the light is on.i have not taken it to the dealer as i can not afford to have it looked at at this time.this happens regardless of road conditions (wet, dry, ice, etc.) the cruise control problem has rendered it useless.it will hold a speed, but will not accelerate when switch is depressed.when using cruise control and left or right turn signal is used, the vehicle accelerates until signal is turned off.the brake lights get condensation inside them after rain or a wash, and ther trunk has leaked so bad that it filled the spare tire well (all the way up) with water.i cannot find the source of the leak, but the carpet is almost always wet in the trunk.

Dt*: the contact stated the windshield wipers work intermittently.the windshieldwipers, headlights dimmer switch, and the turn signal are all controlled from the same control arm.in order for the windshield wipers to work all of the above functions have to be performed.once the windshield wipers start working they only work for a short period of time.there isnhtsa recall # 97v017000 regarding the windshield wiper washer, switch andwiring.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin. Vehicle had condensation in the tail lights.

Since the grand prix was purchased in november of 1994 {1995 model} it has been taken into the dealer 10 times for either the left or right tail light assembly leaking water into them. The very first time the car was taken in was december 5, 1994 for the left tail light assembly to be replaced. Then it just continued on for another 4 replacements of the left tail light assembly. Then the right side started to leak. Then both at the same time. The last time it was looked at by the dealer was in 1999. Since then it has been leaking on and off consistantly. Recently i took the assembly out myself and found that the inner molding of the assembly was warped. I have not contacted pontiac or the dealer with this finding, since the manufacturer told me that they would not honor a repair. I feel this is a safety problem because the tail light assembly fills up with water and when the brake lights are activated it causes a major fog and condensation in the assembly, so the lights are not visible to cars behind you. And the water has no where to go so it stays in the assemblies and continues to condensate. I am frustrated with pontiac because they stated the mileage was too far out for a warranty coverage. I'm looking at it from a safety point and that i have taken the car in so many times for repair to both light assemblies. I also feel that because the car was a new body style for '95 there are problems that the manufacturer didn't work out. The light assemblies have both been replaced with new assemblies, but they continue to leak. So this could be looked at as a recall item. I would appreciate any help you can give. Dt

Exterior lighting/tail lights - there is moisture build-up and heavy condensation in both tail lights, again .i've already had the tail light assembly replaced twice on both sides, and have to pay for it again.the cost for just one (1) tail light assembly is in excess of $250.00.although there is a service bulletin for this same problem which many, many people have experienced on this make and model car, there's no recall.there's definitely a safety issue with this problem during the daytime because it causes poor visibility for other drivers on the road who can't see my brake lights.i already have one herniated disc in my neck due to a rear-end collision, and i don't need another one!*la

The door locks are only supposed to automatically lock when the car is put into drive.however, they lock automatically even when the car is in park.thusly, i end up locked out of my vehicle w/ keys and everything else inside.has happened to me on several occasion, the buttons are not in the right position for me to "accidentally" hit it.has also happened several time to a friend who owns a pontiac gran am 1991.

I purchased this car with low mileage and have cared for it exceptionally well and i have had two major equipment failures.these should not occur at such relatively low mileage totals. I understand some models of pontiacs have had recalls for the brake system, but i was told this model does not have a recall for that equipment. I will defintely consider another model of car other than this one within the next year because of my frustration.

The transmission failed prematurely.it went into the transmission shop twice to get repairred.the dealer subcontracted the transmission shop.

Transmission failed while trying to accelerate onto the interstate , slipped out of drive into neutral . Put the shifter into park and then into reverse and there was no movement of car. Tried to put into drive again and a grinding noise started.

For a car with only 80,000 miles on it the transmission should not have failed especialy since it has been in the shop about 8 times since i bought it 2 years ago.the car is always kept up with scheduled changes and never abused but still the car breaks down and gm should consider the 1995 grand prix a lemon.

I was the retrained passenger in my vechile on 5/5/99.we were t-boned by a van.the air bag did deploy but my seatbelt failed causing me to hit the windshield.i sustained numerouse injuries.i currently have tmj, cervical radiculopathy, lost a tooth, headaches, etc etc.i feel the seatbelt & the air bag should of held me back.if they would of worked i would of not hit the windshield.

I had submitted a complaint about a week ago but i typed in the wrong vin#.i was a passenger in this vehicle when a van failed to yield & t-boned us.i was wearing my seatbelt but unfortunately it did not work & i hit the windshield.my airbag did deploy but i'm not sure if it even deployed properly.if one of them would of worked correctly i figure i would of not hit the windshield.i have multiple injuries such as lost a tooth, tmj, dislocated jaw, cervical facet syndrome, cervical radioculpathy, severe whiplash, daily severe headaches etc etc.but i never had any bruises from the seatbelt.my husband who was the driver did. My car was totaled. I'm am still going through pain & frustration.i feel this needs to be looked into.thank you for your time.

Was trying to use passenger's side seat belt when it broke. It failed to lock or release. Sometimes would release, but not retract. Sometimes would latch plate, can be locked in buckle. The seatbelt will not retract from the stowed position, or is very difficult to retract. The dealer said it is defective. Ihave purchased a new one, but have not had the dealer install it yet (just got it). The dealer says i am financially responsable. Is the manufacturer responsible for this replacement?

Both rear shoulder belts will not retract from retractors. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that nothing can or will be done due to vehicle out of its warranty.

I got into my pontiac and as i sat down the seat broke and i fell back to the rear. I got out of the car, looked under my seat and saw that a metal bracket had broken in two. I thought i should report this because i was lucky it didn't happen while i was driving. Especially when i'm driving up to the coronado bridge toll booth reaching for my wallet in my right rear pocket.

Disc brake pads and rotors on the rear front had rusted,causing loss of braking and extended stopping distance.

I purchased this car with low mileage and have cared for it exceptionally well and i have had two major equipment failures.these should not occur at such relatively low mileage totals. I understand some models of pontiacs have had recalls for the brake system, but i was told this model does not have a recall for that equipment. I will defintely consider another model of car other than this one within the next year because of my frustration.

The brakes often do not adequately slow the vehicle when applied. Occurs at any speed and intermittently.in to dealer for problem many times.still bad.scary.we've only avoided a collision due to extra care taken in following distances and with luck.

Anti-lock brakes lock up resulting in an accident on one occasion.

The problem with the abs:usually occurs within the first mile driven after start up.when the brake is applied, the pedal goes way soft and car lurches forward.a mechanical sound is heard and the abs light then comes on.i am unsure if the abs works or not after that, but the light is on.i have not taken it to the dealer as i can not afford to have it looked at at this time.this happens regardless of road conditions (wet, dry, ice, etc.) the cruise control problem has rendered it useless.it will hold a speed, but will not accelerate when switch is depressed.when using cruise control and left or right turn signal is used, the vehicle accelerates until signal is turned off.the brake lights get condensation inside them after rain or a wash, and ther trunk has leaked so bad that it filled the spare tire well (all the way up) with water.i cannot find the source of the leak, but the carpet is almost always wet in the trunk.

Engine oil fumes escaped from the engine into vaccum hose which went into brake power assist booster hose, and caused the hose to clasp and loss of brakes.also,the pedal became very hard.

When the vacuum hoses get heated up, the hose gets weak and also collapses. After a period of time, it will pop off the engine,and will cause the enginenot to run.

Consumer states that their vehicle is experiencing the same defect for the power steering stated in recall number 02 v 286 000, but their year vehicle is not included in recall. Ts

I have a 95 grand prix se and the steering feels loose, but the mechanic cant find anything wrong wire the alignment. It may have the same defect the 96 models have. Please check this and let me know if i have the same steering system. Thank you.

Vehicle pulls to the left, due to steering wheel being out of alignment.

Power steering hose leaks, causing steering fluid to spill on catalytic converter, which could result in a vehicle fire.

Tail lamps/air spoilers and acelerator cable failed.

Screws missing on drivers door panel.

Housing broke on all four switch covers. Very brittle material poor design. Not the first time we saw this.

Door panel loose and needed to be installed properly.

Power locks do not release at times due to foreign material interfering with mechanism.

Trunk leaks, due to panel failure.

Welds connecting the trunk to the fender walls/body were not correctly alligned, resulting in vehiclebeing unstable.

Right ball joint disengaged while driving. Dealerhas been notified.

The lower left ball joint had a total failure.this failure caused the lower a-arm to disconnect from the steering components.the design on this component is such that you have no directional control. I was extremely lucky in that we were going very slowly when this happened.i have worked on cars for a good while, and i have never seen a ball joint that was pressed together as opposed to being bolted together. This also created a transmission failure that is going to cost a lotto repair. If this incident had happened at highway speed, it may well have been fatal. Rear ashtray fell out, due to missing part.

Vehicle came with 2 remotes, had 1 extra never sychromized, replaced under warranty 10-97, 5-98, plus sychronized my spare 3-99, all 3 i now have now are bad {6} total have gone bad.

Center console is loose due to misalignment.

All of the paint on the trim molding has come off. After repeated attempts to talk to the manufacturer and told basically to get lost i gave up and haven't purchased another pontiac since. Of course, our family has made three new car purchases since then but none of them pontiac.

The washer/wiper switch failed on my 95 pontiac grand prix.i made an appointment with moore pontiac buick to have it repaired.moore pontiac buick said they are not obligated to repair the washer/wiper because there is no recall for it.i showed them the report from nhtsa website and they still refused to repair the problem.i then contacted the manufacturer, pontiac, who replied that there is not a recall for the 95 models.the recall only applies to the 97-98 models.

Windshield wipers will fail intermittently,causing poor visibility. It is same defect as stated inrecall 97v017000;but, this vehicle is not included due to vin.

Dealership was charging the consumer $260.00 to repair the windshield wipers becausethe failure was not caused by the recalled part as indicated inwindshield wiper recall 97v017000.

Dt*: the contact stated the windshield wipers work intermittently.the windshieldwipers, headlights dimmer switch, and the turn signal are all controlled from the same control arm.in order for the windshield wipers to work all of the above functions have to be performed.once the windshield wipers start working they only work for a short period of time.there isnhtsa recall # 97v017000 regarding the windshield wiper washer, switch andwiring.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin. Windshield wipers only work when putting on the left turn signal. The windshield wiper switch has been replaced at owner's expense. Vehicle not included in recall # 97v01700 gm/washer/wiper switch due to win.
