While drivingdriver noticed a puff of smoke coming fromsteering wheel.dealer will be notified.this smell of something burning had occured twice. The dealer indicated the 1994's were recalled for this problem and it should be recalled now too.

At least once a week the vehicle has to be jump started because it just dies. When jump starting the vehicle, smoke comes from the steering column. Continous problem with vehicle, vehicle towed several times, however vehicle is still not dependable, vehicle check gauge light illuminates now, possibly related to electrical system. Cj

Failure of either the battery or/and alternator at least three times. I have owened car since new.

This 3.4l dohc is known for frying alternators. I've heard many cases.

Upon starting,noticed smoke coming out from steering column, vehicle caught on fire in the ignition switch area.

The steering column had been smoking when the turn signals were used then one evening the ignition switch caught fire. The whole dash and steering wheel column, and instrument cluster had to be replaced.if your steering wheel smokes when you use your signals have it checked.

While driving in town heard a clunking sound, and could no longer steer the vehicle. Then stopped, looked underneath, and the engine was on the ground.towed to the dealer. *ml

There were bolts missing or not put in at the manufacturer to cause the upper an lower gasket to go bad right were the two bolts were messing . They said that there wassupposeto be 14bolts an i had 12 bolts thatswhy the upper an lower gasket blew right ware the to bolts were messing. Now when i got this car it had 32100 mileson it the clear coat was coming off then took it to ato bolts and i had 12 an ware the to bolts were messing is were the gasket blew out. So i had to pay 678.63 .and then theclear coat started peeling and chipping on the car . Now when i got this car , it had 32100 miles on it

When using hazard lights, upon turning off, noticed smoke coming from steering column above hazard switch, not fixed..

Ocasional smoke emitting from the steering column.took to a dealer to repair.they replaced the hazard light switch.problem returned about 3 months later.i am very concerned about the possibility of a fire staring in the steeringwheel.

I own a 1993 grand prix. Ever since i bought it used in 2001, i have had to pull the turning signal mechanism forward to make them operable. About a month ago, my 19-year-old daughter was borrowing the car. When she used the turning signal it started to smoke. The whole steering column caught fire and flames shot up through the vents in the car. Fortunately, she was close to home so we could extinguish it with a fire extinguisher. The fire department was called to disconnect the battery. I have since heard of various problems with this model. I friend reported that her 1993 grand prixs turning signals were smoking before she traded it in. I have contacted gms litigation department. They are not interested in investigating the problem any further. They told me because of the high miles and because i was the second owner of the car they cannot make a determination. I have only lost a car, which is unfortunate, it is my hope in contacting this office that a life will not be lost due to what i believe to be a safety defect in gm s product.

Driver side door handle broke off without any force being used.consumer then tried to open the door using the handle on the inside which also broke off. The passenger side door handle rod broke, and the door could notbe opened.

Seat belt mounted to the door failed to restrain my son in the vehicle when he got into an accident. The door opened caused for him to be ejected and my son did not survive the accident. The door linkage got pushed down when the vehicle cab crushed down kinking the door between the latch and outside door handle.

Trans axle seems to slip (asif shifted into neutral) in sharp corners and when leaving stop lights causing a dangerous sudden jerk when the steering returns straight often launching the car into the other lane or on to the shoulder of the road.

Vehicle starts up fine. It hesitates whenpressingbrake pedal,gets real stiff, and starts to pulsate. It hesitates when changing gears.it does this evry 10,000 miles.

While driving 20-30mph vehicle was involved in a frontal collision, andseat belt did not did retract, resulting in minor injuries. Manufacturer has been notified.

While driving,without warning the front seat would unexpectedly move from side to side.the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle drove to the dealer.the driver noticed that the right side seat would repeat the problem as well.the mechanic informed the driver that the left and right seats needed replacement.please provide additional information.

The vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle and the driver's side seat collapsed; and the back of the seat went in the back seat of the car, causing injuries to the driver.

This is addendum to odi # 700647:on may 14, 1997, i had my brakes relined and paid for the following:rear pads, front pads, boot kit, retainers, cut rotors, slide pins and anti-rattle clips.on my way home, the right rear brake overheated and began smoking.i called the dealer and scheduled an appointment.after he worked on the car, i still had problems.i returned and he charged me for a new caliper and said the problem was solved.total cost of the repairs including trial and error was $369.34. The problem continues and the dealer installed a new brake hose at no charge.when the same right rear lining wore out prematurely and broke in half, the dealer relined the rear brakes at no charge, but the brake still overheats on damp days.i contacted pontiac and asked them to assume some responsibility, but they refused. The dealer also refuses to assume any responsibility, but admits that this is a problem with many gm automobiles--that it's not a good brake system.

My problem is that the brakes on my car do a substandard, unsafe and unpredictable job of stopping the vehicle.in emergency maneuvers, they have repeatedly proven themselves to be inadequate, and i feel like i am driving with an accident waiting to happen. Sometimes, i will stand on the brakes (to the floor), but the car is stopping as if i had been moderately braking.other times, the brakes pull the car to one side.of all the cars that i have ever driven (including many gm that my family owned), this car has the worst brakes, and by a far margin.on several occasions, i have had mechanics inspect the brakes (dealers and local mechanics). I have been told by them that there is nothing i can do to improve my situation; that it is just a "problem with the gm w-bodies." i have been complaining about these brakes to mechanics for over 60,000 miles, with no help (i have documented this -- the car was still under warranty when i started).i have had rear calipers replaced, brake pads replaced with ones of different compounds, rotors turned, all to no avail. I have had friends drive the car and tell me they thought the brakes were bad.i feel that i have run out of options with this, short of selling the car and buying a new one (which i should not have to do for this).

Bought in 1999, rear brake rotors were warped and replaced in fall 1999, slide pins were found to be frozen up and causing the calipers to not release the brake pads there for warping and destroying the roaters, all parts were replaced in feb 2001 and now in aug 2001 the front brakes and rotors (possibly the calipers and slide pins also) will be replaced again. The slide pins are not releasing the calipers and is a safety issue if they were to lock up my brakes while on the road. This has happened before on an interstate road! all parts were replaced 3 times and no help from gm. Thank you.

Loss power steering in standing water or rain.ttconsumer stated while driving through rain puddles loss stering suddenly and unexpectedly.

When driving over water or whenwater splashes under thevehicle, power steering is lost momentarily, cause unknown.

When driving 45-50 mph there is a vibration in the front end. When the vehicle was serviced the outer tie rod ends were found to be worn out.the outer tie rod ends have been replaced.the older tie rods could not be lubricated, which was the cause of the problem.

The contact owns a 1993 pontiac grand prix.the contact stated that he cannot make a left turn due to rack and pinion failure.he stated that nhtsa campaign id # 02v286000 (steering:rack and pinion) should include his vehicle.the contact called the manufacturer who stated that his vehicle is not covered.the current and failure mileages were 145,000.

After consumer started their vehicle, put vehicle in drive gear it accelerated at a speed of 70 mph without consumerapplying gas. Please provide more details. Ts

Found out that my main problem with my steering and suspension is that the cradle that holds the engine is cracked and rusted out ready to breaki replaced the cradle in june 2003 but i had it welded in jan of 2002these is same defect as in gm geographic recall for 1991 model

Several problems at different times.olt fell out of rear of engine cradle causing loss of steering.went into the ditch and could have been serious if it had happened at a different location.severe oil leak in engine, origin unknown.ilting mechanism in steering column is loose which caused bracket to break and allows steering wheel to move up and down.while steering wheel is down and being turned, the car dies.seat tilt mechanism on front passenger seat does not hold seat back in upright position.white smoke comes out of steering column after the car is started.rear brake calipers rust causing brakes to lock up and score the rotor.

Left rear power window inoperative.

Power window switches failed.

Alternator and mirror switch failed.

Brakes were replaced four times by the pontiac dealership mechanic.when consumer applied brake pedal, steering wheel will vibrate andbrakes make a grinding noise.front rear brake pads, rotors, caliper, shoes and drum replaced.right rear lug nut and stud replaced too.
