My sister was driving my 2004 pontiac grand am when she was rear ended by a car behind her because a car hit the car behind her and causing my car to hit the car in front of my car. My carhas a lot of damage to the front and back and is now considered a total loss and my air bags never deployed. For the amount of damage on my car the airbags should have deployed.
Air bag light illuminatedwhile drivingconsumer pulled to the right. Took vehicle to the delarship.
The contact owned a 2004 pontiac grand am. While the contact's daughter was driving and attempting to turn, the power steering failed without warning. The vehicle became difficult to steer and caused the driver to crash into a snowplow. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. A police report was filed. The air bags did not deploy and the front end of the vehicle was severely damaged. The driver did not receive any injuries. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) after the failure occured. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

My husband was involved in an accident shortly after purchasing our vehicle at which point a trailer (rear of a pick up) hauling dirt was released from and oncomingvehicle (traveling approx. 45-55 mph) and my husband driving at 35 mph (braking as he saw it coming towards him) the trailer slammed into the front end of our car. This caused the frame to be bent with several other damages including broken axle, and driveshaft with other minor repairs. The car would have been considered totaled had it not had gap coverage and due to fault the other drivers insurance would have had to buy the car out from our credit agency. Approx. Damage was a little over $5000. My concern is with the airbags (even or repair shop said they should have deployed) and with gm's recent recalls (my make and model included but the vin has not been flagged yet) they are claiming the issue with our car isnt like the recent colbolt recall a few months back. But our vehicle can be jarred into acc. While still in motion causing the vehicle to become difficult to control . We have always had minimal key on our rings (house, car, work keys with a single ring) gm explained to me this last wk that the car was just added on the list for unintended key rotation not the faulty ignition and i would need to wait and see if our vin was involved but they assured the car was safe. After reading up on the recent complaints of the year make and model i see this is not just our car and i highly doubt in anyway it is a coincidence.we also have the directional issue were it sometimes doesnt work and when it does it has a long lasting clicking after use and to our knowledge this part was replaced atleast twice by pervious owner as well as once by us.
I was the owner of the car and someone else was driving and filed a claim. I want to know why i did not get anything in the law suit her name is [xxx] at the time she lived at [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
9.13.13 i have been in contact with the local gm dealership, my extended warranty company and gm.com representative directly since february 2013 regarding my horn.several mechanics told me it is a safety issue.the horn is surrounded by the air bag and if it is not working properly, it could be compromised during an accident. Prior to me purchasing the car (which was not on the car fax when purchased used) and may not work properly when i need it to.the horn works under the hood (the lock / unlock remote works properly with the required beep) but when the center of the steering wheel is pressed it does not work.it worked for 1 year and 18 months consistently and then it quick working all together.i am afraid, if i am in a wreck, the steering wheel air bag will not save my life (i do wear my seat belt).i have been advised, by dealerships, mechanics, my extended warranty company, and a representative at gm today 9.3.13 this will need fixed out of pocket - and it will be costly to order the part and repair.i was also advised to file a complaint with the nhtsa.are vehicle owners reimbursed for items that compromise their safety that should work properly (the horn and airbag in my case)?

Vehicle shuts down as it did during recall. They supposedly repaired it. I then bought it from previous owner who did not mention the problem as being on a recall. We found out but dealer says it was repaired. Obviously the fix did not work as vehicle still shuts down and says airbag warning. What recourse do we have when they say it was previously repaired but wasn't.

Car just will not start after the security light came on.. I stop at the grocery store, came back and the car would not start.a guy give me a booster but nothing happened. I had the car towed. This is the 5th times i could not start my car.the security light comes on and the car would not start.my mechanic started it up but itdoesn'twork for me. The pass lock system is bad. General motor knew of the issue but they never issued a recall on it. I am sick of towing and getting struck in a parking lot in cleveland. This car has a security system on the key or ignition.i need help very bad.i am 61 years old and can not affordto repair my car.i called gm customer services to get help in starting my vehicle.they tried to help by telling me the procedures to follow to get it start.it still will not started. This last time, my mechanic told me to take it to the dealer forservice on the security system.do not tow it to his shop.this seems costly!
On multiple occasions, i have to go through a timely security re-set procedure due to the system disabling my ability to start my car.i have read that this is a recurring issue with other car owners like mine. The vehicle is stationary when this happens. It happens at random times.
Fire started under hood and continued through dashboard.

2000 pontiac grand am.consumer writes in regards to ignition switch recall problems.
My 2004 pontiac grand am wouldn't start, changed a few small things, fuel filter, etc, but still wouldn't start.had to have it towed. I read about the passlock system and it worked.when i got to the dealer, their diagnostic didn't find anything wrong.i have not had it happen again, but am afraid to drive it because i also read that after the passlock system fails multiple times, it fouls the computer and the car could die when i'm driving down the highway at 70, and not be able to control the car.
Driving my 2004 pontiac grand am home form grocery shopping and tried to get into left hand turn only lane, but car wouldn`t slow down and i didn`t want to rear end the person ahead as there was a lot of traffic that day so i veered to the right to get into a parking lot to pull my emergency brakes, but was broad sided. I have over $2,300.00 worth of damage tomy car and my mechanic said it is the ignition switch on the 2004 pontiac grand am, and there should have been a full replacement of that when the recall was done regarding the ignition. All that was done for me wasa plastic insert was adhered to my ignition key. Gm needs to recall these cars and replace the ignition switches. They also owe me a lot in repairs done to my car.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. After turning off the ignition switch off, the vehicle was still running. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact took the vehicle to waldorf chevrolet cadillac (2298 crain hwy, waldorf, md 20601, (301) 645-7000), but they refused to perform the recall repair because the rubber covering on the key was fractured. First i want to inform you that your website does not work correctly with internet explorer. I tried to file a complaint and the affected parts : section would not work.i'm using safari and the affected parts: section works.gm recall 14350 / nhtsa 14v400 should be amended to have gm proved two cut keys with two key rings and the inserts listed on the recall.i was a gm service manager and tech for over 17 years and know how the recall system works.the problem with the recall is:1: vehicles over 10 years have had the ignition lock cylinder replaced.2: aftermarket replacement keys are not the same design as the oem keys to allow the inserts and are flat metal.3: the recall uses a insert in the cut slot that does not work in aftermarket keys.on 10/14 /2014, i went to my local gm dealership to have the recall done. The service advisor informed me that the recall could not be done with the aftermarket key.do i need to have the dealership cut me two keys at a cost of $30.i can get a replacement key cut at ace hardware or wal mart for $2.00.aftermarket ignition lock cylinder replacement kits include a flat metal key.please contact gm on the number of completed recall 14350 / nhtsa 14v400. The large number of uncompleted recalls is due to the contents of my letter.thank you
My 2004 grand am i have a clicking noise from the dash area and ever so often smoke from the steering column. Also the driver side weather stripping does not fit right. Weather stripping flew off while driving on the highway.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the ignition made a clicking sound and started to smoke. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Problem with the passlock system on '04 pontiac grand am. Car won't start and is unpredictable. The temp fix is to turn ignition on for 10+ minutes then turn off and car will start. This is a big problem when you're at places like a gas station. There are reports all over the internet of this same problem and pontiac needs to recall and fix the problem.
Vehicle is blacking out while driving at a stopping happened once now key does not turn do to ignition lock not being replaced at recall old key get stuck as well as new key if i die driving at least i can say i still like my poniac
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.upon starting the vehicle she noticed that the security light located on the dashboard was illuminated. After driving for approximately 30 minutes the warning light shut off. The failure continued to recur intermittently for approximately two weeks until the vehicle would no longer start. The failure wasnot diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. The failure and current mileages were 92,000. The vin was unavailable.
Security light flushed 2 days ago, and when i turned the car engine off the car would not crank or start. Took the battery to be charged, and it still would not crank or start.i spent all night on the internet to find that the pontiac grand am's from 1999 - 2005 can have security passlock issues that cause the car not to crank or start. With the key turned on the lights will come on and the windows will go up and down, but you can't crank the car. I found a procedure that will temporarily bypass the security passlock, which involve following the sequence of turning thekey to on position wait 10 - 12 min. Turn car to off (hopefully the security light in display will go off completely) then turn the key to start. That work for me, but the security light display in the dash panel did not go off. I have to hope that i will later be able to crank the car up again. I think this is ridiculous, and dangerous. You could be somewhere far away from others and stranded. Thus you could be in potential dangerous from the elements or environment or could become a victim of violence if the right person(s) approach you when you are stranded.
Gm vats/passlock system shuts down vehicles anytime, anywhere, without warning....even in -10 degree temps in blizzard conditions ten miles from the nearest house. The dealers soak people for $600 - $1200 to replace fuel pumps, key cylinders, ecms and bcms but the problem persists. Your organization shows a post for a few drops of oil while braking but this passkey issue is a danger to anyone who owns a 1999-2005 gm vehicle. The car just stops right in the middle of the thruway, during rush hour, in some cases.thousands of people are having this problem and gm refuses to issue a recall or even offer a reliable solution that we're more than willing to pay for. Our cars turn into lawn ornaments and that's about all.
The passlock system in my 2004 grand am keeps acting up.i go to start my car and i have to put my key in the "on" position for 10 min.this could be a safety issue.my car shut off while driving it the other day.power steering was not working.had to glide to a stop.was told this was a malfunction of the passlock system.i think that this is a recall situation and needs to be addressed.dealership cannot figure out what is causing this problem other than it is a passlock system malfunction.
I had all issues service ,the vehicle continues to have electrical issue burning out fuses car wont start. There is no check engine to indicate cause if faulty fuse. Took the car to several mechanic no one can solve the issue car wont start.

This problem is been happening for a few months and i have taken my pontiac grand am 2004 to different mechanics with not luck..one day driving to work earlymorning my car sitting for 8hrs didn't want to crank or start...battery was dead so i replace it...my car start but after driving for 15 min while driving engine shut off. Mechanics have check and changed fuel pump and filter, water pump ,crank shaft sensor , temperature sensor, sensor behind alternator, fuel pressure check and regulator is new, thermostat change.i have spend hundreds of dollar between parts and labor.i was really happy with this vehicle but the quality of american cars is something to consider before buying one.if there is any fix known in this site i need to know , i have a family and don't want to loose it in a highway in a accident.
There is an intermittent click from the turn signal, even when i am not operating the turn signal. It may click many times in a row, especially right after i have used the turn signal to either direction. I am not sure at this time if the light is also flashing with the noise, but the indicator on the dash does not flash. The problem is becoming worse with time.
Ignition switch failed.as i was driving down the interstate, the car turned off, and i had to fight to get the car safely to the side of the road without power steering.luckily i was able to and no one was hurt, and no damage occurred to any car.the car would not start again and it had to be towed.the ignition switch had to be replaced.
My 2004 grand am is having several ongoing problems. It wont start and when it does it dies constantly. I almost ran into a ditch after it lost power going 50 mph. Another time it lost power in the middle of a three lane street with a green light. I was barley missed by two different vehicles going 45mph. Mypontiac grand am' has a security problem involving a passlock failure. I got in my car today, and it wouldn't start again. Pontiac says to turn the key on for 10 min and reset the computer every time i try to start my car. I work late nights. I can't take the chance to see if its going to start or i have to sit in the dark for ten minutes and wait for my car to start. I also have had to replace the hazard relay and the multifunction rely like hundreds of other grand am owners. In 2003 pontiac recalled cars with the same issue. Im not sure why they aren't taking care of the 2004 problems.
We own a 2004 pontiac grand am. Wondering why it is not included in the gm recall. We have had 3 separate incidents while driving where we lost power and the car was hard to control due to loss of power steering and brakes. My 17 year old son was driving and lucky for us he was in the neighborhood going extremely slow or it could have killed him if he was on a highway going at a higher rate of speed. Doing an internet search turns up hundreds of people having the same problem with their grand ams. Could you please explain why this vehicle is not also being recalled. Thanks.
I filed a safety report on 9/11/2013confirmation # 10543131 and i have not heard from nhtsa at all since filing the report. Please advise me of the report status.turn signals work intermittently.
On 02/23/2008, vehicle would not start and was taken to gm certified auto center.performed diagnostic circuit check - passlock systems failure.replaced passlock cylinder and switch.on 05/22/2008, taken to a different gm certified auto center.diagnostic found ignition cylinder loose internally causing loss of contact.replaced ignition cylinder and switch for the second time in only four months.on same day (05/22/2008), driver reported a clicking type noise as if turn signals were on when they weren't.diagnostic found internal failure in multi-function switch - replaced.on 12/29/2010, clicking noise returned and vehicle taken to gm certified auto center.diagnostic found internal short/failure in multi-function switch and it was replaced for a second time.when leaving auto center, "service engine soon" light on.diagnostic indicated ignition switch needed to replaced, for a third time.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the security warning indicator illuminated and the engine stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 179,053. Updated 4/30/15
On several occasions the ignition switch failed to turn, which locked up the steering column, many times the key would not release from the ignition switch, therefore it would not turn off.
Every year that we fix the intake valve on the car not even a month later the check engine light will come back on and it will be the same intake valve. This clogs all the valves in the system causing the car to sometimes it's slow or cut off. Car will not pass emissions even after you fix this issue. I have contacted gm and notified them of this issue and they state that it's not an issue. Also the blinkers will stop working you have to hit the hazardous blinkers for the blinkers to start working again this could cause a rear-end accident i also told the manufacturer about this issue and they are not wanting to fix it.
Turn signals work intermittently, sometimes can press hazard button to activate turn signal for a moment. Power windows quit working all together at once with no warning. Headlight adjusters broke off (crumbled into pieces), can no longer adjust headlights which causes a danger with reduced visibility at night partnered with the intermittent turn signals this causes quite the hazard.

Electrical system failure in 2004 pontiac grand am:the electrical systems in my 2004 pontiac grand am seem to have gone haywire.a few of the dashboard indicator lights have come on for no reason.these include the security indicator, brake indicator, and service engine indicator lights.the power locking system will lock and unlock randomly as well as with the vehicle's dome light.i fear that if it is a short in the system that it will spread to more vital aspects of the vehicles electrical system.these issues will occur whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion, and there is no pattern or order to how this events will occur.
My concern is about my future safety in my pontiac grand am. Since these recalls have been going out i have checked to see if this car will be on the list. I have had to replace my ignition three times last replacement was in 2011, i was lucky that when the replacements took place my car had failed to start and i wasn't driving, however in jan of 2014 when driving during a snow storm trying to get home, my car hit an ice patch and slide into a guard rail. The impact was so hard that it damaged and bent my left side bumper, breaking the headlight to pieces. To replace the headlight the bumper required to be pulled out and straighten. My air bag did not deploy on impact, even though i hit my head on the headliner, and there was major damage to the car. I live in the mountains of va, how fast was the car going, i am not sure but i can guess impact was about 20/25 mph. Even though the police did come (only because they witness the incident) no police report was filed, i have been looking for this car to be recalled and sure enough its on the list as of july 3 2014. I have not received a letter on the recall, nor does it show up on thecars vin. The roads in my location are mountain roads with curve after curve and up and downs, although the speed limits are reduced in order to drive safely, my worry is that if i lose control of my car because the electrical system, i will be going down the side of some mountain. I called my local dealer for help, and was told because the recall was not on the vin# they will not help me. I already know my air bags do not work, i already know i have had ignition problems, so if the ignition stops working, this is an accident waiting to happen. I don't understand if this car make and model is on the nhtsa list why can't i get it fixed?
Car runs great shut it off next morning won't start wants to but won't that was the 1st incident the 2nd time ishut it off go to start back up an half hour later and does same thing changed everything again still doesn't work tried resetting the computer myself still didn't work.
There are times when i go to start the car and nothing happens, all light work fine just don't start. The security light flashes and you wait 10 mins and then the car starts. I had the sensor replaced and now a year later the same problem. I have done lots of research online and this is a huge problem and gm never owned up to by doing a recall. This affects pontiac, oldsmobile and several others. I think they need to step up here and come up with a solution to what is their problem. Thanks
2004 pontiac grand amgot in car, and car would not start.lights come on, radio on just wouldn't start. I had to be late work because i didn't have a ride and googled the problem, finally found out it is a problem with the security system and lots of people are having it.it has since happened one more times since the first time (first time was 12/15/09) today is the 16th.twice in two days.it is winter and i hope this doesn't happen when i am with my kids.it's to cold for that.i have heard when people take their cars in to gm to have it fixed it costs about $600.00 and there is no way we have the money for that so right now we are having to put the key to "on" position and wait 10 minutes for the security system to reset.it will start then but that is so frustrating and if it happens when we are away from home this winter it will be cold as well.i can't believe when i searched online the amount of people having this same problem as me!
The turn signal switch in the car or the hazard switch seem to be defective. It constantly keeps clicking after i use it and sometimes rarely i can see smoke from the steering column. I have seen multiple complaints on this issues i am not sure why it hasn't been recalled.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while trying to start the vehicle, the ignition key failed to turn to the on position. Also, the contact mentioned that the security warning light continuously illuminated. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced and the security system. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.
2004 grand am will randomly not start. I have had the fuel pump and key switch replaced and the car still does not start sometimes. Twice the car has shutdown while driving. The door locks will unlock when the cars shuts off while driving.
Clicking noise that sounds like turn signal, though turn signal nor hazards come on. Sound is very unpredictable, and very annoying. Have notices small wisps of smoke coming from steering column, but thought it was only dust until reading other complaints. Have taken to dealer and was told they had no idea what the problem might be.
Car randomly will not start. Passlock system if flawed, with time the electrical terminals/connections start failing and causes system to think you are trying to hotwire the car and it engages security override.sometimes comes on while you are driving and you must pull over and turn your car off or else it will stop while you are driving. You must put in the key turn to the on position for 15min then start car, that doesn't always work either. Passlock system is bad and apparently from research the issue runs across the board for gm vehicles from this time frame.
Report receipt date: july 03, 2014nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000component(s): electrical systempotential number of units affected: 6,729,742key wouldn't turn in ignition. On june 10, 2014, i got the key to turn on and start the car but it would not turn all the off. I had to disconnect the battery when the car was parked.on july 11, 2014 i took the car to fischbach tires 1200 n spring st, beaver dam, wi 53916(920) 887-3711 to fix the problem. They replaced the ignition switch and gave me two new keys and i was charged $369.20.can i be reimbursed for this charge since it is part of this recall and if so, how do i go about it?
The car has approximately 34,000 miles. Twice i had to install a new ignition switch, most recently sept. 2013.both times the car would not start and had to be towed. Last ignition installed 10/28/2013, mileage 32936
Takata recall. I was at work and i went out to start my car and it would not start. I had it towed to the dealer ship to have it worked on. They told me that i had a short in the wiring harness. I have talked to several people that has has a pontiac grand am and the same thing has happened to them and they didn't know what it was. All the symptoms of each car was the same. My car will not start, my temp guage doesn't work, my turn signals doesn't work, my horn doesn't work, at night when my lights are on my cruise control doesn't work, my for lights doesn't work,my security alarm doesn't chirp when u lock it,my rpm fluctuates up and down at idle. All this happened when my wiring harness got a short.
I own a 2004 pontiac grand am. There is an electrical problem with the car that causes a security malfunction. On numerous random occasions when i put the key in the ignition and try to start my car and security light comes on the car will not start. I have to wait 10 minutes until the security light turns off and then re-start the car. I have not been able to correct this failure. I bought the car august of 2010 and have had the problem the entire time.
After turning car off for 3 minutes, key would not turn in the ignition. On june 11th i took it to a mechanic. He said that weight of keys was the likely culprit in damaging tumblers inside ignition switch. It cost $369.20 to replace ignition lock cylinder. All i had on my key ring was car key, fob, and house key, which is all i have ever had on any key ring for any car i've owned and i've never had this kind of problem with any other make/model of car. Recall # 14350 will change out the key stating that "if the key ring is carrying added weight and the vehicle...experiences some other jarring even, it may unintentionally move the key away from the 'run' position." this sort of "jarring event" messes with the tumblers, which is what happened with my car over time. Changing the keys should help to prevent the key from damaging the tumblers thus causing it to move from the 'run' position but if the factory key holds "too much" weight causing damage to the tumblers, this damage, in my opinion, should be addressed by gm as well!
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that when the security light came on, the vehicle stalled. If the key was left in the on position, the system would reset itself and the vehicle would function normally. A mechanic told the contact that resetting the system could cause the electrical system to fail. The contact previously owned a grand am that caught fire because of this failure. The dealer stated that the pass lock system was failing. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileages were 52000.
My vehicle's turn signals quit working properly last year, sometimes they would work, sometimes not, i spent $200 out of pocket to fix the issue, there is now a ticking noise in the same area and i'm reading online there should be a recall because 100's are having the same issue. The ticking noise makes my car not only unbearable to drive/ ride in but makes me uncertain whether my turn signal is on or not. I'm constantly distracted by driving to check my turn signals and this is a safety issue. Gm's website was not helpful.
I drove home sunday night and monday morning when i attempted to start my car it would not start the radio and lights came on but the engine would not start.i was told it was the pass code and now that i look it up online there are many other people with the same problem.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage and vin was not available.
On my 2004 grand am noticed after using turn signal... Clicking noise coming from dash behind hazard signal started and now smoke has started coming from the steering column with only 43k miles on car... Noticed several other complaints of the same problem and that this was recalled on earlier models... Shouldn't this recall be extended??
2004 pontiac grand am. Car failed to start when the key would not turn in the ignition lock cylinder. *tathe ignition lock cylinder was replaced.the consumer is seeking reimbursement, due to the recall.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that all the electrical components remained on and illuminated when the vehicle was turned off and the driver side door was open. The contact stated that the electrical system was supposed to shut off once the vehicle was turned off. The vehicle emitted a fuel odor and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 171,000.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while stopped, she began to use the vehicle cigarette lighter and the vehicle became engulfed in smoke. The contact attempted to exit the vehicle, but the doors and windows would not open. The contact then attempted to sound the horn, but the horn would not function. The contact was able to successfully unlock the doors and exit the vehicle after repeated attempts. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but the vehicle was not examined. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 95,695.
Vehicle won't start. It doesn't happen every day, just when i'm in a hurry or late for appointment. Called dealership. Funny this is, they knew exactly what to do! turn the key to the on position and wait 10 minutes. It always starts....for now! i don't understand why gm hasn't recalled this. Also, the dash is warped and putting pressure on windshield. I'll never own another gm vehicle.
On my way to work security light came on and car shut off in the middle of the highway and i had to coast to the side of the road. Tried to start car and the security light was flashing and car would not start. Had to put the key in the on position for 10 minutes before car would start. I was really lucky no one was on the road since i work at night and the road was deserted. This is the third time this has happened in two months and it is getting frustrating because one day the car will start fine then the next it won't start at all and i have to wait 10 minutes.i called the dealer and it will cost almost $700 to fix. There really needs to be a recall on this before someone is seriously injured or dies.
My 2004 pontiac grand am makes a constant clicking noise like the turn signal is on, but they are not. The noise varies from a very slow speed to really fast and just starts and stops at random.
Fast clicking noise coming from radio/hazard light area.this happens when no signal lights is on.
2004 pontiac grand am with approximately 65,000 miles.clicking sound normally associated with directional/turn signal is being heard, even when directional is not in use.sometimes the clicking is activated by moving or turning the steering wheel.the clicking is not constant or consistent, but it does occur every time the directional signal is used.the sound appears to come from the dashboard area (near the radio and hazard light button).the dealership is aware of the issue and has diagnosed it as a faulty/dirty multifunction switch, which he says he replaces frequently.if this is a known issue, i believe general motors (pontiac) should address the issue before it turns more serious.
Got key fob recall done, now the ignition switch is not accepting the key at all making it very hard to turn the key to on and start position as if the switch is in lock position before driving. After driving down the road a bit the ignition switch shuts the car off making me have to restart the car while im driving down the road. This should be a recall not only for my car but for all pontiacs like mine that are 2004 and up. This could cause serious injury or an accident if its not fixed. I drive safe and have kids in the car at all times. I shouldn't have to fight with the ignition switch to turn my key to start position. Another thing to get fixed, the traction light and abs light comes on automatically in reverse and stays on until the car is parked.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. On several occasions, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition switch module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The local dealer (neil huffman auto group, 3810 springhurst blvd #310, louisville, ky) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 162,000. *consumer stated car failed to start on many occasions. Online complaints include not starting possible ignition shut down write operating car. Passlock code faulty. Vin is invalid updated 10/26/18
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed and the contact experienced extreme difficulty turning the key in the ignition. The failure progressed for months and the contact later received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). The remedy for the recall repair failed to repair the vehicle. The dealer was unable to inspect or diagnose the failure with the ignition switch. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer provided no remedy for the contact other than to get the vehicle diagnosed and repaired by an authorized dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
I pulled up to a stop light and my car just shut off. I tried to start it several times but all i got was a click. The ignition isn't catching.
Car randomally will not start. Looked up online this is a huge issue with grand am, you must put in the key turn to the on position for 15min then start car, that doesn't always work either. Passlock system is bad. Chevy knew of the issue but they there is no recall on it.
Turn signal switch clicking, when after using the turn signal and during driving. I took it to the dealership they said it was the turn signal switch. I see that in december 2004 gm issued a policy covering turn signal/hazard flasher for a replacement. We did not receive a letter about this. I would like you to look into this and see if the 2004 grand am is also included in this recall, if so how do i go about to get the dealership the proper papers to fix this issue at "no cost" to me. This has been an occurring issue since early 2009, i just had time today to get it to the dealership to have it looked at, because the clicking is getting worse.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start because pass lock system activated independently.the contact was able to start the vehicle after approximately ten minutes. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.updated 4/15/15
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The manufacturer was contacted and had a computer technician inspect the vehicle at the contact's home. The technician ran a diagnostic test and determined that the pass code needed to be replaced within the ignition system. The technician was able to start the vehicle but did not guarantee the failure would not recur if the pass code was not replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Car started popping fuses for the parking lights and dash lights then my wife was at bank and lights came on automatically then the harness under dash started smoking i had to cut power from battery to stop fire.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that when the ignition was turned to the on position, the vehicle did not start. Security light stays on in dashboard.at times car does not want to start. Read on line numerous complaint about this issue.however, when i put in my vin numberit says no recall.on another site, their is a recall for 2004 pontiac grand amhelp!!! i am confused.

The contact stated that after the repairs were performed, the vehicle failed to start. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Security light came on while driving in interstate 80 to kearney nebraska. Dealership in fremont told me not to turn off car until i got to destination. Told it may not start again. Talked to two different dealerships one in kearney nebraska and one in fremont nebraska. The dealership in kearney said they could not get to it due large volume of business. Told me to leave it in on position for 10 minutes then restart car. I got back to fremont and the dealership in fremont verified the problem. The security sensor was having trouble acknowledging the key and thought someone was stealing the car. The car possible not start again or shut down.the fremont dealership replaced the ignition cylinder and wiring harness. It cost $630.00. I asked if they had heard of this problem. They said yes, that they had seen it quite frequently. I checked the internet and there were numerous blogs and statements to the same situation that others had experienced the same problem.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it failed to start. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure mileage was 154,000.
Passlock system 2004 grand am pontiac, the security light is blinking and read the manual follow the steps but my car wont crank up
This is the 2nd time my car is running fine when i turn it off and when i go out to run an errand, there is no power at all. When i turn the key, there is nothing at all. Everything is completely dead, nothing lights up at all. It happened the 1st time earlier this winter and the garage was able to reset it and it started right up. I have tried putting the key to the on position and waiting 10 minutes and turn it to the off position and then trying to start it. There is still nothing. I assume i will have to have it towed to the garage and possibly have the ignition switch replaced. I figure that is what it must be because i have been doing research on the internet and alot of consumers have had the same problem and that is what was wrong and i also noticed that it can happen again at any time leaving people stranded. I just happened to be that both times i was in my own yard when it did it to me.
I had my ignition lock cylinder tumblers replaced by a lock smith because key kept sticking and now my car does nothing when i go to start it with key. It starts w/ remote start but odometer hand and etc go side to side really fast. My head lights, heater and dash lights don't work. Security light is not on. The key will turn the car off when i use remote starter. Car turned off while driving twice before and after tumbler replacement.
Car will not start. Passlock security system bad. Have to leave ignition on for 10 minutes to let system reset. Found pages of complaints about the gm passlock security system on the web. I guess nothing will be done till somehow there is a death. With the gov. Now owning a part of gm the nhtsa is now really in gm's back pocket and will not do anything.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while approaching a stop light at 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. As a result, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. A police report was filed and no injuries were sustained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). However, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The failure mileage was 109,658.
There is an intermittent click from the turn signal, even when i am not operating the turn signal. It may click many times in a row, especially right after i have used the turn signal to either direction. The turn signal light is not flashing nor is the indicator flashing. However the signal indicator noise just continues. The problem is becoming worse with time.
Car did not start, security light flashing. Called mobile mechanic, he had no clue, cost $85. Decided not to tow the vehicle to dealer as recommended by user manual. Did my own research online, wow, a lot of people with the same issue! used 10-minute fix seen online, which worked. This happened approx. 1xweek almost every wk., keep using 10-minute fix. 6 months later, while making a right turn in a parking garage, the engine stopped dead, the security light flashed - i almost hit another car as the steering went out. Afraid this will happen again on the road. Still having pass lock issues about once weekly, scary not knowing when it will occur or where. I cannot afford $1,000+ to get this 'fixed' (no guaranteei'm told); this is a product defect and should be recalled before someone gets hurt, whether by being stranded in a dangerous situation (night, weather, location) or in an accident while driving. Just because the car hasn't burst into flames doesn't mean this isn't dangerous.
The ignition system or sensor doesn't work.some time it want start.after waiting for the security light quick flashing it will start sometime.
I love my pontiac gram am, the car not starting has been the only problem with the car. Just called the dealler ship and they said it would cost about $419 to fix the problem.i already spent $1000 or more on towes and new battieries, etc. Till i learned the 10 min trick.i'm getting sick and tired of waiting the ten minutes for my security light to reset. What does it take for a recall this problem. I can't imagine how many more people have had to have this problem.
My daughter went to start her pontiac grand am 2004. It would not start, and the security light in dash was flashing. This happened 3 times in 1 and half hours. It was parked in front of the house 2 times, and once when i accompanied her to fill up for gas. This has happened 3 times with me driving her car in the past 8 months. And has happened atleast once a week with my daughter the past 4 months. I found out on line after doing some research into the problem that this is a recurring issue with the pontiac the car does not start, not even a click. The security light flashes. Reading up on this. You have to turn the key on and wait approximately 10 long minutes. In the cold and heat. My daughter is a new driver, and should not have to deal with this known gm problem. If it stalls or does not start and an emergency arises. Now she has to wait. This is unacceptable for anyone, let alone a young driver. Gm needs to own up and fix this issue.
My daughters 2004 grand am recently started experiencing an annoying problem.whenever she used the turn signals, the clicking noise coming from the dash near the radio and hazard light switch continues for several seconds (anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds or longer!!!) after the blinker is turned off.the problem is gradually getting worse as time goes by.
2004 pontiac grand am. Problems with car key ignition and starting up. *tathe consumer stated she was only able to drive the vehicle for a mile, before it completely shut off.the repair shop replaced the ignition lock cylinder.
Turn signal keeps making a clicking sound minutes after signal is off, also theft light comes on once a week not recognizing key.
Passlock security system is failing. Car will start up perfectly one day but then the next day it may not start and the security light will be flashing. Takes ten minutes to reset. Basically you don't know when and what day that your car will start and its a huge nuisance. I'm not spending over 600 dollars to get this fixed when this product should have already been recalled. It's ridiculous.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Transmission solenoids burnt out due to overheating tcc solenoid pressure solenoid will not let me go in reverse or drive
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. While driving various speeds, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering wheel began to smoke. The instrument panel gauges failed to work. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Regular occurrences started at 120k miles, these are all issues which previously complaints have been filed by current 2004 grand am owners but have not been corrected and i have called every 6 months filing these complaints. 1) gas fumes are coming in the car when it is running or sitting still idling, 2) blinkers start blinking on their own around 80 degrees f outside temperature, mechanic said it was because grease in steering column becomes thin and shorts out other wiring causing the smoke (fire) which comes from steering column, this occurs every summer to fall when temps are 80 degrees or higher), 3) horn does not work, mechanic replaced horn mechanism but it did not fix the issue & i am concerned the air bag system won't work either since they are inter twined in the steering column, 4) the dash is warping, cracking and breaking horribly, it causes a sticky haze (gas) on my windshield causing issues when driving at night, i continually wipe off but it does not help, 5) the service engine soon light has been on for 2k miles, the mechanic states it is a fuel system indicator code, indicating the fuel cap is not fitting correctly, which he has confirmed is incorrect.starting at 142k the car overheats (i just got the water pump and thermostat changed), the car shakes tremendously and shuts off while driving when temperature gauge is indicating this overheating, leaving the car unable to be driven since no power steering etc, the replacement of the parts has not corrected the issue.i am very tired and worried about my family's safety in this car.please assist as i have been calling since 2013 about the #'d issues.thank you. Security light comes on - car won't start - let set for 10 minutes - turn ignition off and back on - security light comes on going down the road. - something to do with passlock according to info on internet.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact received nhtsa campaign 14v400000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the recall remedy was not a permanent fix. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact did not experience a failure.
Won't start without holding key to on position for 10 minutes. Turn signal keeps making clicking sound for up to 2 minutes after turning off signal.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact indicated that after restarting the engine, the vehicle resumed normal function.the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition cylinder lock was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The failure mileage was 60,230.updated 8/29/2014
In january 2009, the ignition switch locked on my grand am without warning or reason. It required me getting the car towed to a shop and paying $438.61 to have it repaired. Recently gm announced that there is a known issue w/the ignition switch. I've made several attempts to speak with someone about being reimbursed for the repairs w/out success. I'm being told that the only thing i can do is have the "key" covered so no other keys can be attached. I have my dated receipt showing the ignition had to be replaced including the lock cylinder. Please contact me back regarding this matter.
During traffic my 2004 pontiac grand am just shut itself off! moments before i did hit a pothole. Suddenly, the lights in dash illuminated, bells sounded, and my key independently moved from the on position to off.i lost power steering, brakes.the car slowed to a stop. I called 911 in desperate fear of being hit.-car wouldn't restart, key wouldn't come out of ignition. I became angered and pounded on the ignition area and near the radio. The car then was able to respond and turn on. I learned that my car had been recalled in july, but there is no remedy on how to fix it. I was towed to the dealer.mechanic, at dealer, said no codes came up to indicate a problem.he said though i had some miles on my car, the car was in terrific condition and didn't appear to be this old.i told him that i have been impeccable with my car.the service manager told me they aren't going to do anything because there is no remedy.however, the service manager said my car is not safe.i was never so scared in my life.all i could think about was my children.my life was endangered as there was no way to make my care indicate there was a problem- flashers weren't responding.on may 23, 2014, i hit a pot hole pretty hard while entering a parking lot (i was going slow), my car shut off and on in moments, lost power steering momentarily. The key was stuck between on and off, not coming out of the ignition. I was towed to the dealer, they replaced the ignition. According to my paperwork and repair by the dealer, gm has advised me that my car in involved with a recall and i should seek reimbursement for the ignition switch i had repaired.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. When the contact inserted the key into the ignition switch, the key could not be turned. In addition, the driver and passenger side air bags deployed inadvertently. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Pontiac grand am 2004 - the vehicle's security passlock system is malfunctioning.there is also a warning light that indicates this and inconsistently by lighting "security."when this system is malfunctioning, the car will not start and is completely disabled / immobile.this causes many factors such as no use of necessities like heat, if you were in dangerous cold temps.you can not get away from a dangerous or potential dangerous situation.i believe this issue is widespread and should be a recall and fixed by gm.i've researched this issue online and found many, many other owner's of the same model with the same problem.this non-starting of the car can only be over ridden by turning the key to the "on" position for 10 minutes.then the system will allow the car to start.i recently had a recall performed on my car "unintended key rotation" 14350this recall does not deal with the passlock security system.but i think it is related because since that recall was completed it caused my security passlock system to fail more often.in conclusion i believe gm should issue a recall for "faulty security passlock system."
Second complaint regarding the turn signal electrical problem.this problem is a result of a defective multifunction switch and is present in other years of the grand am as well as other gm vehicles. In researching this problem i have learned that it is not a matter of "if" it will happen to your pontiac but rather "when" it will happen.my pontiac was repaired janurary 18, 2008.the following is the description of the repair from the mechanic:diagnose clicking noise in dash, dismantle dash face and check wiring and switches, check tbs's and recalls.problem caused by short in multi function switch that damaged flasher unit.r&r steering column covers and air bag to gain access to replace multi function switch, replace hazard lamp switch/flasher unit.part description:multi function switch assembly (headlamps, wipers, turn signals, dimmer all in one unit.)hazard lamp/flasher unit assembly.total cost $474.31.my cost to rent a car $59.85. If you will refer back to 2000, gm recall no03043 and 2001 gm recall no03043 you will see these vehicles were recalled for exactly the same thing!in addition to the consequences of a possible crash as a result of the defective switch that you noted, you might want to add that 1) it is very distracting 2) if the vehicle is not repaired, the brake lites start failing, the steering assembly starts smoking....and best of all, if you take it to certian pontiac dealers they have actually stated that the smoking was normal during the summer months!!!i sincerely hope that something is done about this before someone is killed.think of your family members and give this some attention.this is not about money anymore.
On my 04 grand am after using turn signal, clicking noise started coming from behind hazard signal and now sometimes a puff of smoke has started coming from the steering column with only 43k on car, replaced hazard switch, fixed for only 2 days then same problem, noticed complaints of same problem and this was a recall on earlier models, shouldn't this recall be extended?? please go to www.mycarstats.com there are many complaints of the problem. More complaints from other owners.2nd complaint ofturn signal electrical problem. Result of defective multifunction switch also present in other years as well and other gm vehicles. In researching this problem i have found it is not a matter of ifbutwhen it will happen. Car was repaired1/18/08. This is the description of the repair from the mechanic: diagnose clicking noise in dash, remove dash face - check wiring, switches, tbs's and recalls. Problem caused by short in multi function switch that damaged flasher unit. R&r steering column covers and air bag to replace multi function switch, replace hazard lamp flasher unit. Part description: multi function switch assembly (headlamps, wipers, turn signals, dimmer all in one unit.) hazard lamp/flasher unit assembly. Total cost $474.31. If you will refer back to 2000, gm recall no03043 and 2001 gm recall no03043 you will see they were recalled for the same thing! in addition to a possible crash due to the defective switch that you noted, you might want to add that 1) very distracting 2) if not repaired, the brake lights start to fail 3) steering assembly starts smoking. I hope something is done before someone dies. This safety issue needs to be addressed before some gets hurt or dies. I made pontiac aware of condition with out resolve. Problem with passlock system, car not turning on, has left stranded 6 times with my son at night, costed me tow charges, new battery, missed days from work, car is only 50,000, bought it brand new from dealer, driver side window motor will not work, rear view mirror fell, turn signal continue to click even after turn made, ac regulator bottom fell of.this car is a lemon.

I have a 2004 grand am.i bought it from a dealership used with approx. 36,000 miles on it.i have had it for only 4 months and have already replaced the ignition sensor, and have been told to replace the o2 sensor as well.now the car randomly loses all power when driving at low speeds.this annoyance is accompanied with the car also not even turning over on some occasions.the car cannot be counted on.i'm taking it in for testing.

The security light comes on and won't allow me to start the vehicle until i let it sit for 10 minutes with the ignition in the "on" position.there are internet message boards with tons of complaints about this and gm won't repair it. The cost for the repair is $400.00 and the dealer says it is a common problem to have the passlock fail. The car only has 49,00 miles on it. What can i do to get this fixed?
In may, my ignition switch completely locked up.the ignition system is integrated with the passlock system.my dealer performed the repair of the ignition system, and now, just a few months later, i am having passlock problems.after researching the problem on the web, i have discovered that the passlock issue is a long outstanding problem the manufacturer is aware of, yet they have done nothing to resolve the problem for the affected customers.the cost of repair for this type of problem is approximately $380.this fee is not justified as it is the result of a defect in design or manufacture and should be subject to a recall and not foisted off on the customer.
Car will not start sercurity light flashing passlock problem.
Security system failure...no warning.security light on as i went to work.the car sat all day...then it wouldn't start.the car does not recognize my keys.in doing some research i have found that this is a major problem for all grand ams, not just for 2004 models.why does pontiac continue to use defective passlock systems in their cars.cost to repair runs approximately 450.00.in my research i have found that even after it is "fixed" it can and does happen again.i would think that pontiac should quit using them and putting them on their cars, or pay for the repairs since they know it is bad and going to go bad over and over again.it isn't like the car is a bmw or rolls or something.i for one could live without the passlock security system.
I have a 2004 pontiac grand am gtand while i was driving the security light came on and when the ignition was turned off the car would not start back up.i had to end up paying $578.16 to have the passlock sensor and ignition cylinder replaces.
There is a problem with the vehicle not starting all the time. No warning to the problem and it seems that there is no pattern. Also have a turn signal issue, the sound goes on continuously. After some online research i have found the problems to be common. The starting issue has something to do with the security system which i have heard referred to as passlock. Have contacted gm on many levels, in person and over the phone, with no solution that suits me. Charged me $40, to tell me the turn signal would be $300 to fix, or so they say. Have not had an estimate on the ignition problem but have seen what other people have paid and could be between $400 and $1000. To have the part replaced with the same junk from gm. Will never buy another gm vehicle again. It is a shame that our american cars pale in comparison to their foreign counterparts. I hope that this information is useful and that this problem can be resolved, with gm recalling all of the problem vehicles and standing behind their terrible product. If i can be of any further assistance do not hesitate to contact me.
2004 pontiac grand amwill not start. Have to reset some security code. Leaves you stranded for at least 15 minutes. Pontiac will not tell you how to fix. Many trips to repair shop, lots of money spent with no fix.
Ignition defective - will not start/unable to turn key in ignition.seems like tumblers in ignition are not activating to recognize key.have tried to start several times per day - has been sitting for 3+ weeks and cannot put into neutral to tow.no problems leading up to this event.
The passlock anti-theft device installed in the ignition switch of my '04 pontiac grand am se will engage and make my car impossible to start. It happens several time per week since i passed 36,000 miles, now at 36,868. I thought mine was an isolated case, but after reading complaint after complaint from customers who have this device installed in their vehicles it's obvious that this device has a design flaw since many have had their ignition switches replaced only to have the same problem happen again and again. Gm even lists a procedure to "reset" the anti-theft sensor in my owners manual. I have a pregnant wife and two other small children. What am i supposed to do in an emergency when i get into my car and can't get it started because of this faulty device? wait 10 minutes for this contraption to "reset" itself while precious time is ticking away? when this anti-theft sensor isn't keeping me from starting the engine the ignition switch and everything associated with it works beautifully. I would like for gm to come with a solution to this annoying and possibly life threatening faulty sensor and replace the the ignition switch with a more reliable switch or pay to have the dealership disable this useless headache altogether.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start as the anti-theft and the air bag warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,130. Djr
Security light comes on - car won't start - let set for 10 minutes - turn ignition off and back on - security light comes on going down the road. - something to do with passlock according to info on internet.
While driving my 2004 pontiac grand am the car failed at 30 mph.it completely shut off leaving me with no power steering and no way to regain control of the car until coming to a complete stop to restart it.once i had stopped it did restart without incident.one week later the car failed to start at all not even turning over.when the problem was diagnosed at the garage it was found to be a faulty "ignition control module" in the car.at this time the part was replaced only to fail again within 2 months time again while i was driving this time in a much more hazardous condition being that i was on the highway and was traveling at 50 mph and had to travel across two lanes of traffic to even pull over to try to restart it.the car continued to start and shut off all the way to the service garage where it was again found to be a faulty "ignition control module".in another two weeks time the car failed to start and when diagnosed this time it was said to have "electrical problems"possible the "power control module".at this time the car is still undriveable and unsafe for travel.
Vehicle will not shift out of park, and the key sticks whenthe consumer tries to remove it or place it into the ignition. Vehicle has not been serviced for the existing defects.

I purchased a 2004 pontiac grand am from car corner dealer in roanoke rapids, nc 27870 on or about 10/9/05.i have had the car for 1 month and the ignition system locked up.i was informed by a person the dealer sent to work on the vehicle that he was called to another incident recently it the same problem with a car that was purchased from this dealership.at this time the person stated that it was a recall on the same problem i am experiencing with my vehicle.i contacted pontiac and they stated that there is no recall on the vehicle problem.i was told by the dealer that he is not going to be full responsible for the repairs of the problem with the ignition system.what rights i have at this point. I am seeking help with this matter.

Automatic locks keep going out.this has happened 5+ times since i bought the car in 2004.and it seems to only happen when the weather gets cold. It happened 3+ times in the winter of 2004-2005 and twice so far in winter of 2006-2007. The dealer has worked on it several times to try to find what was wrong and they cannot figure it out. All they do is change the fuse and give the vehicle back to me and tell me to monitor it and bring it in if it happens again.date of incident is the most recent occurrence. It has something to do with the electrical-keeps blowing the fuse.
The turn signals continue to click when not in use.i took it to the mechanics and it was diagnosed as a multifunction control switch, which is $200.00 canadian for the part alone only available at the dealer.it is 2.5 hrs of labour to replace it as the steering wheel has to be pulled.
I have a 2004 pontiac grand am with 40,000 miles on it. The other day i was signaling a lane change and now the clicking sound behind my hazard warning switch is constantly on and off. Sometimes my hazard lights and turn signals turn on and off by themselves. Not only are these things very annoying but are dangerous. I know this has been a problem on earlier model years of my vehicle and an investigation was conducted for those vehicle. This is an ongoing problem that the manufacturer refuses to correctly address. Please expand your investigation to more model years of my vehicle.
I ownedthecar for 2 years , and in the 2 years thedome lampfell down 4 times. It just recently fell down again on the 16 of july. I parked thecar outside of my house and in the morning the dome lamp was hanging by the wires. Thefirst time ithappened i went to eat at a restaurant, and when i was done i got into the car and saw the dome lamp hanging by the wires.
Fortunately, my complaint does not involve any deaths, injuries or crashes.my inquires regarding an electrical problem have gone unanswered and before i spend a great deal of money having my dash board disassembled, i am turning to you to see if you have received any related complaints.
I had all issues service ,the vehicle continues to have electrical issue burning out fuses car wont start. There is no check engine to indicate cause if faulty fuse. Took the car to several mechanic no one can solve the issue car wont start.
On several occasions the ignition switch failed to turn, which locked up the steering column, many times the key would not release from the ignition switch, therefore it would not turn off.

Car runs great shut it off next morning won't start wants to but won't that was the 1st incident the 2nd time ishut it off go to start back up an half hour later and does same thing changed everything again still doesn't work tried resetting the computer myself still didn't work.
Keep having to change ignition switch and transmission went out.
I purchased a car from an individual who advertised a car for sale by stating"ac works heater works" unfortunately within 45 min after purchasing the vehicle i was left stranded on side of the road in extremely high heat due to car dying because it overheated but i wasnt aware of it because it never got hot on temp gauge because i later found out there was no thermostat in the motor.. I was unable to get the seller to answer her phone or return my calls. The ac can't work without a thermostat and heater needs heater core in order to work in which the car hasn't one. I'm stuck with a vehical that i can't drive and the seller was aware of the problems concerning the car but failed to mention anything was wrong with car.

Ignition key caused engine to turn off while car was in motion.power steering and power brakes were disabled.i still own the vehicle and this has been ongoing ever since i purchased the car.no crash has ever occured because there is still some minimal functionality to the brakes and steering when the key shuts off.however, my wife has driven my car and luckily hasn't had this experience.i'm afraid that she would lack the body strength necessary to handle the steering and brakes.at times, i have been able to shift the transmission into neutral and restart with the car still in motion, but it was very difficultto maneuver and come to a stop while trying to restart at the same time.please advise.
Enginelight.
My car will crank but won't turn over and start.

Hi..my name is [xxx] ..i would like to report recall on my vehicle. I bought 2004 pontiac grand am gt last april 7th of 2006 at kelley's northside chevrolet in evansville indiana with low mileage 30,427. I don't know how long the radiator had the problem. Til now last month it appeared that the radiator got worse and can't drive in bad condition. I took my vehicle to 2 different mechanic to look at the radiator. They said that i need new radiator. I can't believe that i had bad radiator because i don't drive that much in 1 year after i bought it.right now the mileage on my vehicle is only 48,400.. Impossible. So that why i want to file complaint report recall on my vehicle..it might be from manufacture ..other reason is that i can't afford to pay for new radiator which i think i shouldn't pay for this..also i had warranty but will not cover the radiator just for the parts..if you reply me back soon as possible.that would be nice if you can email me or call me thur tty..i am deaf. I sure hope you can help me in any way you can..here is my email address is [xxx] my phone number is [xxx] and please use relay 711 first then give my phone number..thanks [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled when she attempted to start the ignition. It took ten minutes for the vehicle to finally start up. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership twice, on the second visit the contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced . The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel pump. However, the vehicle still stalled. The failure mileage was approximately 67,600. The current mileage was approximately 67,700.
Was driving normally down road on way to work. Approached intersection and depressed clutch to down shift and apply brake to stop vehicle. However with clutch depressed, the vehicle began to rev up on its own without the accelerator pedal depressed, until it reached the red line. After pumping accelerator about five or six times vehicle stopped revving up. However several miles down the road the vehicle began to rev up again when clutch was depressed to shift gears. This is an ongoing issue, vehicle has been seen by gm dealerships and gm rep but they claim issue cannot be replicated. Multiple parts have been replaced but issue continues. Will a major accident or death be required for this issue to be addressed?i realize that this is probably not sticking out as a major issue because of low numbers of reports of this same problem, but i would imagine that since this is probably isolated to models with manual transmission which is a very small minority of vehicles. If thought about in the fact that their are few vehicles configured with a manual transmission, the fact of the number of reports of this issue makes it more significant since it would equala higher percentage ofvehicles when compared to the total number of vehicles configured with a manual transmission.

Make : pontiac model : grand am year : 2004 manufacturer : general motors corp. The hazard light switch in my 2004 grand am started making this clicking noise as if they were on but were not then it had become more intense and would not stop until the car was off and would start again as soon as the car was started, now mind you the car is 4 years old with 58,000 miles on it and i just got it barely 2 weeks ago... This had just started a couple of days ago and just recently as the car was in idle i accidentally hit and pushed the key inward and the car just shut off. Now it has come to my knowledge that there was a recall in 2003 for defective hazard lights not only in the grand am but in other gm made cars. My question is, if there was then how come a year later the same problem exist and in not only my grand am?
Problem with passlock system, car not turning on, has left stranded 6 times with my son at night, costed me tow charges, new battery, missed days from work, car is only 50,000, bought it brand new from dealer, driver side window motor will not work, rear view mirror fell, turn signal continue to click even after turn made, ac regulator bottom fell of.this car is a lemon.

Turn signal system keeps clicking. Found pages of reports on the web for this proplem. No smoke or flames yet. Nhtsa needs to get gm to fix this problem.
Was driving down i-80 in ohio and my turn signal click began clicking nonstop, then stopped.it continues to randomly click, sometimes fast, sometimes like the turn signal speed, but with no consistency or predictability.the turn signal lights are not flashing, just the clicking sound.i've found multiple instances where grand am owners are experiencing this issue and supposedly there was a recall on 00-01 models for it, but none that i can find for an 04.the research i've found is that more than just 00-01 owners are having this problem and seems widespread enough to warrant a recall on the part.i'm currently researching pricing for a replacement multi switch (turn signal/wiper combo switch) which was the fix for this problem according to the information i've found.
I have an '04 grand am and there is a constant ticking (sounds like coming from hazard light button).it is always on and doing a search on the internet it sounds like it is the multi function switch which was recalled in older models why is this not being recalled if the problem still exists.i have a friend who's car (grand am also) does the same thing.i don't feel i should have to replace this when it has been an ongoing problem for years.
The turn signal switch in the car or the hazard switch seem to be defective. It constantly keeps clicking after i use it and sometimes rarely i can see smoke from the steering column. I have seen multiple complaints on this issues i am not sure why it hasn't been recalled.
Fuel system recall , strong gas smell inside car exterior lighting recall, hard to see while driving car at nighteletrical sytem ignition recall power cuts on and off
My concern is about my future safety in my pontiac grand am.
Clicking noise in dash panel to which i can't seem to find. It sounds like switch clicking on and off. The lights on the interior flash sometimes and also after the car is turned off,and were sitting outside, the headlights and or park lights flash on and off every few seconds or so. Could be a future fire hazard.
After using turn signal clicking noise will come on and not go away. Took car to repair shop and told about defect on the turn signal or better known as the wiper multifunction switch.total expenses of repair $289.00.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, he attempted to change lanes and the turn signal failed to operate intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The current mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact was driving 40 mph when the turn signals failed prior to making a turn. The contact also stated that the turn signals would only illuminate once the hazard lights were illuminated, before completely failing. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was71,028.
Turn signal on 2004 grand am constantly clicking and ended up not working while driving causing others not to know my lane change not enough miles on car for it to go out want a recall on it see there are others have same problems and charge to fix it is extremely high for an switch that saves a humans life.
Clicking noise coming from dashboard. From researching internet other consumers have same problem said they were told it was multi-function switch. I had not heard the clicking before just started all of a sudden. I have not had it fixed yet because i didn't know what was causing it.
Turn signal keeps making a clicking sound minutes after signal is off, also theft light comes on once a week not recognizing key.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.the contact stated that the turn signals failed intermittently.the dealer was not notified.the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that her vin was not included in any recalls and did not offer any further assistance.the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure.no repairs were performed.the current mileage was 151,000 and the failure mileage was 100,000.
Vehicle has 74233 miles. While driving clicking sound normally associated with directional/turn signal is being heard, even when directional is not in use. Sometimes the clicking is activated by moving or turning the steering wheel. The clicking is not constant or consistent.
My 2004 pontiac grand am makes a constant clicking noise like the turn signal is on, but they are not. The noise varies from a very slow speed to really fast and just starts and stops at random.
Consumer complained thatinterior/exterior lights would dim when applying brakes or rolling down the power window ondriver's side. Dealer was notified, and informedconsumer that it was a normal characteristic of that vehicle.
Fast clicking noise coming from radio/hazard light area.this happens when no signal lights is on.
I filed a safety report on 9/11/2013confirmation # 10543131 and i have not heard from nhtsa at all since filing the report. Please advise me of the report status.turn signals work intermittently.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact was driving 20 mph when the turn signals and hazard lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic. The mechanic replaced the multi function and hazard switches. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 41,000 and the current mileage was 46,100.
Won't start without holding key to on position for 10 minutes. Turn signal keeps making clicking sound for up to 2 minutes after turning off signal.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.the hazard and turn signal lights would not work.on october 24, 2005, the vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense, however, the failure recurred.she spoke to the dealer and they are attempting to charge her for the repair, however, she believes that it is a manufacturer defect for the same part to fail within two years.the current mileage was 86,392 and failure mileage was 41,715.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am se. She stated thatthe hazard lights would intermittently and rapidly turn on and off. The contact stated there was a burning wire smell when the failure occurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs or diagnostic testing. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were 97,366.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. While driving various speeds, the hazard lights became inoperable. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 167,000.
I am writing about the "clicking noise" that occurs on and off as i am driving.i have called the pontiac dealer and they said that this happens very often and that it is the multi-function switch.after doing some research, i realized that 1999 and 2000 models were recalled and were able to get this fixed for free.i have a 2004 model and it is doing the same exact thing, why aren't other years also recalled to have this problem fixed.i visited many forums on the internet, and there were hundreds upon hundreds of people who face the same issue, clicking noice coming from the dash.i figured it wouldn't hurt to file a claim and have you investigate this problem that is occuring in pontiac vehicles.thank you for your time!
On my 2004 grand am i noticed after using turn signal... Clicking noise coming from dash behind hazard signaland now smoke has started coming from the steering column with only 78k miles on car... Noticed several other complaints of the same problem and that this was recalled on earlier models... Shouldn't this recall be extended? contacted gm with no help from them.
The hazard light switch in my 2004 grand am started making this clicking noise as if they were on but were not then it had become more intense and would not stop until the car was off and would start again as soon as the car was started, now mind you the car is 4 years old with 58,000 miles on it and i just got itbarely 2 weeks ago...
Turn signal flickers after turn made or even if no turn was made . I noticed vehicles in 2000 had recalls and these were replaced .
I own an 04 pontiac grand am. At the time of sale all the equipment work properly on this vehicle. The clicking sound started yesterday 11/20/06.having a clicking noise in the dash, after looking into in the problem is a multi-function switch that ponitac will not recall due to a malfunction causing the brake lights not to work or other serious injury.this switch needs to be recalled due to the malfunction of it as the other parts related to it also.
The clicking noise from the blinker clicks almost all of the time.even if the blinker is not on, the noise still clicks.it has been going on for some months now.it is getting worse day by day.for the past couple of months, it has even been smoking.it clicks really fast and smoke comes out.
2004 pontiac grand am se - while the car is turned on and while driving, the turning signals or the hazard flasher unit is clicking somewhere in the middle of the dash near the radio while the blinker switch is in the off position.i have researched this issue on the web and it appears that previous years had recalls on the same issue.i refuse to pay $300 at the dealership for a unit that obviously has a track record of failures.
2004 pontiac grand am defect in the multi function unit. Consumer states that upon her research if the multi function unit has a failure with the turn signals and hazard warning switches is that it cannot be repaired it has to be replaced.the multi-function switch was replaced on the consumer's vehicle.
Also the person whom i spoke to did not speak or understand english very well.please help get this resolved.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. While driving 40 mph, both turn signal indicators failed to illuminate without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (durand chevrolet, 223 washington st, hudson, ma 01749, 978-310-1243) where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. The vin was not available.

Blinker noise keeps (clicking) going after blinker has been turned off. It is intermiittent and stops and starts again every few minutes. I have already had the blinker replaced once last year and already the problem has resurfaced. It is very annoying.
Since 2006, turn signal continued to tick after signal arm was at "off." often the ticking would begin spontaneously, particularly during hot weather above 90 degrees, without using the signal arm, and without making a turn. On august 20th, a hot day, after making a turn, smoke began to come out of the steering column.a local garage, where i had to immediately park the car and jump out, made the necessary repair at the cost of $421.45 to replace a turn signal switch. At this time, the turn signal works fine without extra ticking. The car mileage was at 95486.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. While driving various speeds, the turn signal lights failed to operate when activated. The contact had to use his hands to signal when making turns. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the turn signal function intermittently worked. At times, when the contact needed to use the turn signal, the function failed without warning. More than one dealer speculated that the faulty hazard switch may need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The failure mileage was not available.
After turning the signal light continues to tick non stop.we contacted the dealer after learning this problem is very common.they stated there is no recall on the switch problem located in the steering column but it is on the bulletin...not sure what that means...then we were told it would be $350 out of our pocket to fix this very common problem.
2004 pontiac grand am. Incessant ticking, such as the turn signal that seemedto come from the emergency flasher area on the dashboard. However, quite a few people i hadtalked to had the same problem that has been fixed with a replacement part in the steering column. The amounts spent varied from a few dollars for a junk yard part, which was still the same manufacturer ,to upwards of $400 for a dealer fix. I am not replacing a bad part with another potentially bad part from the same maker, nor am i paying a dealership hundreds of dollars to fix a problem they should be held accountable for. Thiswas apparently a widespread problem that occurred for many years with these vehicles, yet very few of them were actually recalled.as a noted, the ticking began after.while driving)i suddenly saw a small wisp of smoke coming from the steering column. The smoke had an electrical smell. When i called the dealership about this, i was told this was a normal occurrence sometimes when the temperature was hot. Therewas nothing to worry about. Also, when i called regarding the ticking noises no one seemed to have any idea what i could be referring to... That' was when i began my internet search and discovered lots of nasty stories relating to gm dealerships and the same problem.

Blinker switch continuously clicks/makes noise, even when the switch is not in use.
Turning signal switch keeps making noise even when switch is not being used. 2004 pontiac grand am. I have noticed a lot of similar complaints on this issue all occurring around 50,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the fuel tank was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 04v301000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 34,000.
I have a 2004 pontiac, grand am.for approximately 1 week and 3 daysthe pastweek asi warm up my car in the mornings,an upon returning to leavefor work every morningthere are strong overpowering fumes.so strong my eyes burn and get an upset stomach. I have to roll down the windows to remain in the car.i searched the internet to assess what theproblem may be and i saw that there had been a recall on 2004 pontiac grand am for the same problem that i am experiencing. I have not received a recall letter.
2004 grand am will randomly not start. I have had the fuel pump and key switch replaced and the car still does not start sometimes. Twice the car has shutdown while driving. The door locks will unlock when the cars shuts off while driving.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that she smelled fuel in and outside of the vehicle.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they were unable to diagnose the failure however, they replaced the gas tank.there is a recall for the fuel system, gasoline: storage (nhtsa campaign id #04v301000) however, the manufacturer stated that her vin number was not included.the failure and current mileages were 48,000.
Gas tank rupptured traveling on a road free of debri at a speed of 20-25 mph/ i heard a loud thump in rear of vehichleupon arriving home when getting out i smelleda very strong gas aroma, looking under the car gas was streaming out of bottom of gas tank in about 6 streams approximately 1-1 1/2 inches in front of my exhaust system.no one with gm seems to feel this was an unusual occurrence for the gas tank to fail at this speed or that there was a safety issue.i had been in the hairdresser for about 2 hr so the car was cold at the time of the incident.i am scared to think what could have happened if i had been running a normal day of my errands and the exhaust system was warm with gas streaming over it.they are making me pay $750.00 to replace the tank.i feel that this is unfair also anyone owning this car like myself is in danger, as they are making light of the situation and could happen again to myself and other owners.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.the contact stated that oil has been sprouting out under the hood and the undercarriage.she noticed a gasoline smell when she initially purchased the vehicle.general motors informed her of nhtsa campaign id number 07e021000 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly:pressure relief devices); however, her vin was not included in the recall.the dealer also stated that the regulator was a manufacturer defect and nothing could be done because the warranty expired.as a result, her children became violently ill due to the fumes.the current mileage was 54,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.
My son was driving this 2004 pontiac grand am and noticed gasoline odor/fumes coming into the vehicle cabin area with the hvac system operating.upon inspection of his complaint we noticed fuel leaking from the fuel pressure regulator.this fuel leak was minimal when the engine was at mid temperature but became worse when the engine reached operating temperature.during additional diagnostics we also noticed when the engine was started up cold that the fuel leak was easily identified and leaking profusely.we promptly shut the engine down contained the fuel leak and disconnected the battery until the fuel leak could be repaired.the fuel regulator appears to be the original oem installed component.we replaced the fuel regulator assembly and the leak has now been corrected.the faulty component appears to have a pinhole leak at the top hat area or some type of porosity. This is very difficult to see with the naked eye.if the regulator is pressured up to the correct specified psi i am certain that the leak will be absolutely identified.current ambient temperatures have been in the range of 35-58 degrees fahrenheit.this fuel leak came on suddenly and could possibly result in an under hood fire.i am convinced that if the ambient temperatures were in the summer time ranges this could have resulted in a potentially dangerous situation for the driver of the vehicle.i can send the failed part to nhtsa for analysis upon request.during further investigation of this complaint it seems that several other owners have had similar complaints with this fuel regulator leaking on this v-6 engine vin code "e".i do request a follow up from nhtsa on this complaint and i will ship this component to nhtsa at my own expense upon request.the manufacturer has not been notified at this time and i will not contact the manufacturer unless instructed to do so by nhtsa.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted into the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 43,000.
I had all issues service ,the vehicle continues to have electrical issue burning out fuses car wont start. There is no check engine to indicate cause if faulty fuse. Took the car to several mechanic no one can solve the issue car wont start.
Car runs great shut it off next morning won't start wants to but won't that was the 1st incident the 2nd time ishut it off go to start back up an half hour later and does same thing changed everything again still doesn't work tried resetting the computer myself still didn't work.
Fuel system recall , strong gas smell inside car exterior lighting recall, hard to see while driving car at nighteletrical sytem ignition recall power cuts on and off
My car stalls out from time to time because of the ignition switch i took it to gmc they told me that they couldn't help me because i didn't have the original key
Consumer complained thatinterior/exterior lights would dim when applying brakes or rolling down the power window ondriver's side. Dealer was notified, and informedconsumer that it was a normal characteristic of that vehicle.
2004 grand am will randomly not start. I have had the fuel pump and key switch replaced and the car still does not start sometimes. Twice the car has shutdown while driving. The door locks will unlock when the cars shuts off while driving.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that both rear door child safety locks were engaged, but failed to unlock. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
When engaging the clutch to start the vehicle heard a pop and the clutch pedal went straight to the floor, but the clutch was not engaged. This is the second time this type of incident has occurred during the life of this vehicle, first time occurred when it was still under the original manufactures warranty.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system), but the recall repair did not remedy the failure. The contact stated that the dealer replaced the tumbler in the ignition switch, but it became difficult to shift gears after the recall repair was performed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Engaged clutch to start engine/car - heard pop and clutch pedal went straight to the floor. Plastic joint on clutch rod snapped off. Appears may only have approximately a 40k mile life on this part. If had broken while driving at highway speeds may have caused crash or injury. This is the second time this has occurred on this vehicle.part has been replaced each time.
Transmission solenoids burnt out due to overheating tcc solenoid pressure solenoid will not let me go in reverse or drive
My car stalls out from time to time because of the ignition switch i took it to gmc they told me that they couldn't help me because i didn't have the original key
While driving in city traffic, i depressed the clutch to change gears and the clutch was soft and would not engage.upon inspecting the engine, there was no fluid in the reservoir for the clutch.i added fluid, but it ran right out.after taking it to a repair shop, i was informed that the master cylinder where the company that manufactured it had stamped their imprint had cracked causing the failure.the master and slave cylinder were replaced costing $$$$.
Vehicle will not shift out of park, and the key sticks whenthe consumer tries to remove it or place it into the ignition. Vehicle has not been serviced for the existing defects.
On tuesday november 6th 2007 at approximately 6:11pm i was traveling south on talyor ave. In kirkwood, mo when i went to apply the clutch there was a stiffness and it did not want to depress at first, but then depressed. A short time later i had turned onto south kirkwood rd and at approximately 6:16pm i was approaching the intersection of south kirkwood rd and big bend blvd. There was a red light at the intersection so i applied my brakes and tried to apply the clutch and again it seemed to hesitate and not want to depress and then it went straight to the floor but did not actually engage. To prevent collision with another the vehicle in front of me and i could not get the vehicle out of gear so i had to turn the vehicle off. With the vehicle off i was able to get the vehicle out of gear and coasted backwards into a parking lot. After inspection by myself and a gm dealer it has been discovered that the control rod linkage that goes from the clutch to the clutch pedal is connected to the clutch pedal by a small thin piece of plastic. This plastic component failed preventing the operation of the clutch.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the driver and passenger side front seat belts failed. The driver's side seat belt buckle would not secure into the seat belt clip, causing the belt to become loose. The passenger's seat belt would tighten excessively and the contact was concerned that the belt could cause injury. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 190,000....updated 07-10-13
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.the contact stated that both rear latch systems failed in the vehicle.the failure prevented a child safety seat from being secured with the latch belt system.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the latch system, which needed to be replaced.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 110,000.
Driver hit gas instead of brake exiting from a parking lot and drove into the rear wheels of a flat bed tractor and trailer truck.airbags did not deploy and driver's seat belt popped loose.driver sustained a mild concussion.passenger suffered chest pain and has since been diagnosed with torn cartilage and 2 cracks in sternum.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.the contact stated that the driver seat felt very loose and rolls all the way back.the seat does not lock in any position and he believed that the bolts failed.he also believed that the seat was defective and unsafe in case a crash occurred.the vehicle will be taken to the dealer.the current mileage was 42,984 and failure mileage was 41,973. Received 12/12/07 64200.the dealer stated the metal under the seat had broken in half. Updated 12/12/07.

While driving down the interstate, after a hard rain, i came over a hill and noticed that traffic had stopped due to an accident ahead. I hit the brakes and noticed that my speed was not impeding as normal.i didn't want to collide with the vehicle ahead of me in my lane which was completely stopped about 40 yards ahead,so, i tried to go to the left. I figured that if i didn't stop in that distance i 'd stop in 5 or 10 more feet without colliding with the vehicle ahead. The inside shoulder was not wide enoughto safely harbor both front wheels of my car and my left front wheel skidded off the shoulder causing the entire rear end to skid off the interstate while the front axle remained on the shoulder. Luckily the ravine was shallow and i was able to get the entire car off the shoulder into the ravine and was able to drive to the other side of the ravine, which had no incline and get back on the road albeit in the opposite direction.i thought i needed brakes so i had them checked out.i was told that the brakes were in good shape. The rear were nearly brand new and the front had quite a bit of wear. I found out later that the rear brakes were not self adjusting. The emergency brake had to be deployed to adjust the rear pads. This is clearly a defect in engineering design or construction. This is my fourth car and i've never had to use the emergency brakes on either vehicle unless i parked on an incline. Since then i noticed the front of the cararound the windshield seems to have been repaired because part of the trim was left off. I bought this car from enterprise rentals and should have been told if it had extensive or any body work.
While driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to accelerate on its own. The contact exited the interstate and attempted to brake as the transmission made an abnormally loud sound. The contact pulled into a fuel station, raised the hood, and observed smoke coming from the engine. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The contact waited a while and then drove home with the brake pedal down to the floorboard. The contact's husband was a mechanic and diagnosed the vehicle, but no failure code was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while he inspected the vehicle, he found that the steel brake lines were corroded and the vehicle emitted a loud noise from the engine floorboard area. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 119,000.
Problem: the steel brakes line going to the front and back ruptured at the same time during what was to be an emergency stop. They were on top of the abs module and were heavily rusted.hence, there was no braking except by pulling the emergency brake when i was cutoff by another car and had to jump the curb to avoid a collusion. Luckily no damage to me or the car, except two ruptured brake lines. I was in chicago on city streets in the diversey sheridan road area.i had the damaged area replaced and traded in the car....unsafe. These lines should have been coated with some type of rust preventative compound.
No other manufacturer, american or foriegn, has a higher incidence of warped front rotors, and within the last decade this problem increasingly shows itself at relativey low milage. My most recent experience (last 3 years) was a new grand am se developing pulsating brakes at 20k mi.the dealer fought with us tooth & nail and said "that's your fault, we aint paying for anything!"i called the pontiac zone and raised hell, ..no cigar. Finally got with the shop manager to pull the rotors & put them on the lathe and see how true they were.they weren't, but we knew that before we got started.the brake pads showed very little wear.conclusion, i got hustled out of the shop with "we'll take care of it."they did, a new brake job at no charge.the second car was a 2000 malibu.chevrolet, they said pay us for new rotors or take a hike.we hiked.replaced the brakes myself and the problem came right back around 18k mi.i sold the car instead of fixing it.my last gm car is an 04 grand am, and with just 11k mi,...here we go again!!general motors knowsof this problem.it's rampant in the product line- up.to announce a change would be strictly forbiddenas a matter of corporate policy as that might draw liability leading topossible class action suits. Keep in mind that brakes are a safety item not subject to limitations of warranty or liability where it can be shown that gm "knew, or should have known", that this problem exists. Ergo, opened ended liability. Further, gm has known of these poorly performing parts thru their dealerships and high volume replacements ordered thru the dealers and independent parts outlets. And finally, the astonishing thing about this part is that it's as low tech as it gets.it'snothing more than cast pig iron.the fix is in the metal chemistry and casting technique.where gm gets a free ride is to argue that this item is"consumable" and subject to wear and abuse beyond the manufacturers control.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). I have a 2004 pontiac grand am. The other day i had front brakes put on the car. When i drove to the doctor the next day ,i tried to pass a vehicle that was going to slow. The nut i tried to pass did not want me to pass ,so he kicked his motor in and i looked down and saw i was doing 70 miles an hour. I went to brake so that i could fall back in behind the nut, when i applied brakes the car went side ways. I got lucky and straightened the car back. Thank god,or i would be dead. I took the car back to have the brakes looked at and the qualified serviceman said the problem was that the calibers were warped and that only 20% of the brake pad was touching the calibers. Problem is the calibers are made of aluminum and they warp with heat. There is no way of preventing this from happening again as there is no way to change metals. I have been told this is not a first ,or even the first thousand that this has happened. I would like for you to contact me and let me know if this is true and if you have statistics that show this. Will there be a recall? please contact me and let me know what i can do to fix this problem. Thank you for your time[xxx] thanks again.
Lug bolts sheared off passenger front. Oem rotor had roughly 3/16 inch play causing the wheel hub to slam against it. There is lug thread marks on the rotor.
While applying the accelerator pedal vehicle wouldaccelerate uncontrollably on it is own.consumer applied the brakes and the vehicle continued to accelerate.consumer was ableto maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic informed consumer that the problem could not be duplicated.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle brakes had to be replaced on four occasions.on each occasion, the brake light would illuminate at various speeds, and the steering wheel shook and a shrieking noise could be heard like metal rubbing on metal.the condition was permanent, repeatable to worsening under normal braking conditions.the vehicle was taken to a local dealer and an independent mechanic who both determined that they could not find anything mechanically wrong with the vehicle, and that this was an unusual problem for a new vehicle to have extreme problems with the same component.the dealer recommended the contact to file a complaint with the nhtsa.there were no further repairs made.updated 12/28/2006 -
Bolt wore hole through brake line causing brake fluid to leak out and no brakes whets so ever. Cant find a brake line to fit both sides where it screws in at they are two different sizes and they only sell them with the same size. Didn'tjust happen once it has happen 3 times since 2007.
The contact is a mechanic and has serviced four different 2004 pontiac grand ams.he stated that the rear passenger brakes have failed on each vehicle and caused a leak.the leak comes from the wheel cylinder, which prevents proper braking.he believes that the failure could cause a serious crash.the current and failure mileages were 120,124.updated 10/16/08updated 10/21/08.
The brakes tended not operate while driver stepped on the brake pedal. Took vehicle to dealer for repairs four times, but the problem recurred.
While driving down a steep hill, applied brake and car seemed to accelerate rather than brake. Then, turned into subdivision and brake pressure went away completely then came back after finished turn.
I was driving this vehicle on a dry clear day.when i exited the highway and slowed down in the exit lane by tapping the brakes the car turned 90 degrees toward the inside of the circle and proceeded off the road.the car behaved like it was on a sheet of ice even though it was a warm dry day.
While driving at approximately 45-50 mph the consumer applied the brakes and the vehicle did not stop.also, the brake line was leaking and that the mounting of the brake line was too close to the engine which caused thebrake line to leak.the consumer had the vehicle towed back to the dealer and the service manager was very cavalier in his approach, thus irritating the consumer.*sc

The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am . The contact stated while driving 55 mph suddenly the steering wheel became stiff and very difficult to control. The vehicle coasted along 3 lanes, it finally came to a complete stop when it crashed into a concrete wall. The contact injured his shoulder and neck. The contact was taken to a near by hospital to be treated for his injuries. A police report was filed.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the suspension was fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed.the failure mileage was unknown.
2004 gm pontiac grand am with power steering issues that have occurred after 30,000 miles.when the powering steering fails it's extremely difficult to steer when traveling under 15 mph.at that time, it's hazardous to myself and other vehicles as it's challenging to avoid a collision due to steering failure unless the vehicle is accelerated above 15 mph.i previously struck a vehicle while parking due to the power steering failure, however a police report was not filed due to the extent of damage was not significant.gm has recalled similar compact cars with the same issue/ road hazard as my gm model.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that the vehicle was making a clicking sound when attempting a turn. In addition, the contact mentioned that when the clicking sound was constant, smoke was emitted from the steering wheel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 95,000.
Keep having to change ignition switch and transmission went out.
The vehicle went sideways and they were unable to correct it and were t-boned in the drivers door.at the time of the crash is was stated as road conditions, but with this recall and the fact that a lot of stuff used to hang from the key chain, we are now wondering if the car shut off and they were unable to correct the situation.

On several occasions the ignition switch failed to turn, which locked up the steering column, many times the key would not release from the ignition switch, therefore it would not turn off.
Renter car i secured in april 2004 had steering problems which resulted in a crash. *sc
Over the previous several months i noticed a noise coming from the steering during turning the vehicle in park lots and at speeds slower than about 30 mph. Took to gm dealer with 31,655 miles on vehicle. Dealer discovered that the power steering gears had failed and they replaced the power steering.
During low speed manuevers, turning into a parcking space, parrallel parking, when turning at idle speed steering tightens up like it is manual steering. Took to dealership they ordered a new powersteering pump. Car currently has 10,000 miles but has been doing this since new..just a little info incase anyone else has had this problem.
A rampant "clicking' noise near the hazard button, the blinker actual got stuck on and started smoking the other day; i replaced a part for the same problem about 2 years ago.blinkers andhazards still currently work.the noise comes on inconsistently, but almost without fail after using my blinker.
I have had taken my 2004 grand am se to the dealership (mike raisor pontiac in lafayette, in.) atleast 6 times i know of. Every time it was for the same issue (air leak). A gm rep came out to the dealership to drive my car, and that rep stated that my car did have an air leak, but it was acceptable to him. Gm would not take care of this problem. The dealership had replaced quater panel afterquarter panel, lowered the trunk deck, replaced windows and window appliques, fixed dents in the roof on each side of the sunroof and i think thats a little to much.i will never buy another gm product again as long as i am driving. The dealership was full of nothing, but false promises. I have reported this problem several times and nothing gets done.
Dashboard is all curled up and melting from the heat even with covering the windshield...now it makes it hard to see with the sun glaring off and right into your eyes. The dashboard appears to have shrunk..nothing fits even around the gauges.
The vehicle was flooded. Water leaked through the sun roof because of a malfunction in the drains.the path the water went was the floor board, it soaked the computer on the side of the dashboard panel. This caused electrical failure due to corrosion caused by the water. Also, the mold and mildew was making the consumer's child sick. They have had respiratory infection etc.
My 2004 grand am i have a clicking noise from the dash area and ever so often smoke from the steering column. Also the driver side weather stripping does not fit right. Weather stripping flew off while driving on the highway.
I have an 04 grand am gt. The windshield is not sealed, the molding around the windshield keeps popping off, the clear coat on the trunk lid is peeling and now the cigarette lighter keeps blowing fuses. This all happened at 65,000 miles. Dealer accepts no responsibilities.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated the dashboard was deteriorating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 141,000.
I have had to replace the windshield wiper transmission on my 2004 pontiac grand am 3 times, if i go thru a car wash it breaks my wipers every time, my drives side wiper would not work at all, finally i had to get it checked out by a mechanic and he told me it would cost 500 plus to fix, thankfully i found a part at a junk yard for 50.00 and replaced it, about a month later i went thru a car wash and it broke again, i think that water pressure shouldn't break it! also my security light keeps coming on, i have no idea why, it goes off after being on a few mins, also my dashis peeling very bad, which every grand am i have looked at is peeling, it blocks my dash and everything and its putting pressure on my front window! thanks!
I witnessed a truck driver recording videos while operating a tractor trailor, swerving lanes and seemed to be driving faster than an average tractor trailor. Posted videos on social media. Same person also operates there personal vehicle the same way and participates in local street races. This person was released from a different trucking company due to the same actions and still continues to drive unsafely. According to the maryland commercial driving rules, speeding excessively, involving any speed of 15 mph or more above the posted speed limit, driving recklessly, as defined by maryland law, including but, not limited to, offenses of driving a motor vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property, making improper or erratic traffic lane changes are all disqualification for serious traffic violations. Although this person was never reported to proper authorities they have also operated vehicles while under the influence of a controlled substance and had an alcohol concentration of 0.04 or greater while operating a cmv. This concerns me because i am a driver and 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the united states is caused by texting and driving. If texting while driving is 6x more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk and answering a text takes away your attention for about five seconds, traveling at 55 mph, that's enough time to travel the length of a football field. So i can only imagine the outcome of a distracted truck driver who is also a regular irresponsible driver.
I recently purchased my car with the understanding from the dealership that they would fix an air leak in the passenger side rear window.after taking it to them on 4 deferent occasions, the problem was not fixed and i was told that it was a defect in this particular make and model of car and that there was nothing that could be done.i would not have purchased the car if i had known i would have to listen to an air leak.i contacted a representative from gm who verified that there is in fact a defect with this automobile leaking air, but was told that until "enough" people complain about the air leak, there will not be a recall on it.
In relation to odi case number: 10273941 yesterday, july 16, 2009 i also experienced the window molding popping off and was not sure the cause of it.originally i thought someone was attempting to break into the car.noticing no attempt to break in other than the molding popped off i determined it to be possibly related to the heat as yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far.the molding disassembled itself on the passenger side of the front windshield.it was easily placed back into location and have not experienced the issue again.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.the contact observed that the exterior clearcoat paint was peeling.the front bumper area and headlights exhibited excessive peeling.the failure occurred without warning.the vehicle has not been taken to a collision shop for inspection.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 108,000.

Dash began peeling back at the windshield shortly after new warranty expired. Now itso warped that it is cracking and breaking every vent cover, or it pops them out as you drive! (not fun late at night when you get hit by who knows what in the dark!)my latest concern ~ recently it has separated above the steering column, exposing the wiring (incl. Airbag) inside to dust, moisture, etc.local dealer says this would have been covered under original warranty, but not under gm extended major guard. :-( they made me a 'deal' at cost to replace it for $700.gm corporate office declined to help, other than offer $1,000 towards cost of a new vehicle....which at the time was a promotion available to anyone!!
Security light stays on in dashboard.at times car does not want to start. Read on line numerous complaint about this issue.however, when i put in my vin numberit says no recall.on another site, their is a recall for 2004 pontiac grand amhelp!!! i am confused.
Upon closing my car door, the plastic frame around the outside of the side window cut my thumb open.
5 days after i purshasedthe2004 grand am i was driving on the expressway and heard an air leak coming fromdriver'sside door. I called the dealership, but was unable to set up an appointment to fix the leak since the vehicle would be in the shop for a couple of days. I was unable to get a rental car because of my age so i couldn't make an appointment at the dealership. The car was brand new at the time of purchase.

Air bag light illuminatedwhile drivingconsumer pulled to the right. Took vehicle to the delarship.
Noise coming from front end of car. Dealer investigated and found that a front strut had failed and collapsed with less than 36k miles on the vehicle. Dealer replaced strut. Noticed in searching complaints this is not the first reported instance of this happening on low mileage grand am's.
While driving 30 mph the driver side tire collapsed without warning. The dealer stated the front strut bolt was missing.please provide additional information. *nlm
A 2004 pontiac grand am, driving eastbound on dirt road.driver came around a curve on dirt road and had sudden loss of control of vehicle.driver described wheel being torn out of his hands with loss of control.vehicle then rolled onto its side.while vehicle was up on its side, it was noted that driver's side rear suspension bolt was broken.
The tires loose air all the time, been told it has to do with the rims.
For over a year, my starter does not turn the car on when my factory key is inserted.it takes multiple tries for the car to start.when it finally does starts, there is a clicking sound that lasts from 5 mins. To 5 hours.is this a hazard?
There was no crash, i am just concerned i have a 2004 pontiac grand am gt, the dash is defective and made of inferior materials. It is so warped and curled not to mention broke and lose, that in the event of a collision the dash will become a missile and in its current state it blocks a portion of the passenger airbag. This is a common problem with these vehicles and gm will do nothing about it. The dash is unsafe and was not built to last.
Passlock system 2004 grand am pontiac, the security light is blinking and read the manual follow the steps but my car wont crank up
I own a 2004 pontiac grand-am, which i purchased in october 2003.between the time of purchase and now, my ignition switch has gotten stuck in the "off" position at least four times.each time it appeared that it was an electrical problem with the manufacturer installed theftlock system . The theftlock light would still be on after the car was unlocked using the remote and the key inserted in the ignition.until a couple of days ago, i just waited it out for 10 to 30 minutes and would be able to turn the ignition switch.however, the last time it happened, waiting did not work.i had to have the car towed to a nearby dealership for service.the ignition and lock cylinder have to be replaced.the cylinder has to be altered so my key fits.after researching i now know that this is a common problem with pontiac.*dt
Keep having to change ignition switch and transmission went out.
I got a recall of unintended ignition key rotation. I took it in to gm and they said they could not help me. They said it is for the original keys , which i have. But my plastic on one key is broke on one spot. I told them my ignition is messed up. The key can be pulled out with the car still running and some times it will be turned off and keys in my hand and yet it is still on. No one explained anything to me, except they could not help me, that is was just a plastic piece that they put on the key in the hole where the key ring goes. Yet i still keep getting the recall in the mail.what exactly is the recall?
Dt: the contact owned a 2004 pontiac grand am. She statedvehicle went out of control while pulling into a parking spot. She was going slowly, when the vehicle took off. She hit the brakes and luckily the vehicle stopped, but she almost wentthrough a store window. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, and theywerechecking i. This was the first time this happened.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably without warning.the brake was depressed, but had no effect.the speedometer reached 35 mph before the contact engaged the clutch to slow the vehicle.consequently, the vehicle was involved in a very minor collision with a second vehicle.once the vehicle was stopped, the engine continued to rev until the tachometer needle was redlined.the vehicle also had the same problem on six other occasions.previously, the vehicle was taken to a service dealer where the idle air control valve computer module was replaced.the problems persisted.
While driving down a steep hill, applied brake and car seemed to accelerate rather than brake. Then, turned into subdivision and brake pressure went away completely then came back after finished turn.
I was driving my 2004 grand am and i was sitting in stop and go traffic on an hwy and it was hot outside that day andwhen i let my feet off the brake pedal my car start to accelerate by its self very fast and i immediately press my break to the floor and my anti-lock breaks kicked in and the car continued skid and accelerate fast and i had put my cars transmission into neutral and the motor continued to rev even after my transmission was in neral. I ended up skidding up a side walk to avoid a serious crash or being killed in a bad crash. I believe it was a defect in the vehicle speed control accelerator pedal.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated when starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal increase in engine rpms up to 2,000. The dealer replaced the idle air control valve and another unknown valve. The failure recurred within six weeks. The dealer then replaced the pcm rem and the computer. The manufacturer was contacted and informed her to continues working with her dealer to repair the failure. The failure and current mileages were 127,918.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am.
1. The events leading up to the failurenormal usage2. The failure, how often it occurs, its consequences; and, while on a trip attempted to engage the cruise control and found out the switch went bad3. What was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replacedwas told that the switch will need to be replaced.i here this is a common failure on my model.this failure happened 2 months after the factory warrenty expired.i doubt i will buy another gm car again.
Vehicle is 2.2l 4 cyl manual trans. Acquired the vehicle in november of 2007. On several occasions while driving, slowing down and depressing clutch pedal to downshift, engine speed runaway occurred. Rpm increased uncontrollably past 3500 rpm, only way to stop was to shut ignition off and restart engine.vehicle taken to a service shop, but could not replicate or diagnose the problem and recommended to not replace any parts unless definite diagnosis could be made. The problem persists with a couple of occurrences on a weekly basis.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck causing the vehicle to violently accelerate. The contact indicated that the driver had to depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle from accelerating. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.updated 11/07/16*ljthe consumer stated the throttle was sticking and not decelerating/ a local mechanic replaced the throttle/brake assembly. Updated 12/07/16.updated 12/12/16.
Beginning in december of 2004 the vehicle while driving through a heavy rainfall had the accelerator stick and the car had to be pulled to the side of the road and turned off. At various other times between dec 04 and 3/28/05 the vehicle displayed eratic speed control. On 3/28/05 vehicle was serviced at bommarito south for this same issue, during that service visit, they couldn't replicate the issue.on 4/08/05, vehicle was serviced at dealer for the same issue again and the throttle body and accelerator cable were replaced. This apparently also did not solve the problem. On september 9, 2005 with approximately 9524 miles on the vehicle, while slowing down in 5th gear and leveling my speed out at approximately 30 mph, i released the gas pedal and engaged the clutch in order to downshift. When i did this, the rpm level on the vehicle climbed to approximately 4000 rpm and remained at that level. In order to get it to come down from the high rpm i had to pump my gas pedal several times. On 9/12/2005 the vehicle was towed by gm to the bommarito pontiac south dealer again, this time the dealer stated that they couldn't replicate the problem but that the vehicle was suppose to do this.. On september 15th 2005 at approximately20:00 hrs i was driving the vehicle through a heavy downpour on interstate 44 near valley park, mo. The traffic ahead was slowing down as you could not see very far ahead due to the extremely heavy rainfall. I removed my foot from the accelorator, however the car still continued as if my foot was still on the gas pedal. I applied the brakes, but it did not have an effect. I then applied the clutch so that the engine would not continue to make the car go foward, the tachometer then raised to over 5,000 rpm's i tried pumping the gas pedal to make it come down but it did not have any effect. I almost had an accident becuase of this. To avoid engine damage from the high rpm's i had to turn the engine off and pull over to the side of the interstate.
2004 pontiac grand am trunk popped open and raced out of the drive way while inreverse and foot was not on accelerator.the consumer put in a claim to gm, however the claim was denied. The local dealer stated they couldn't find a problem with the vehicle. The consumer stated a recallwas issued which described exactly what he experienced.

At various other times between december of 2004 and 3/28/05 the vehicle displayed a stuck accelerator. On 3/28/05 vehicle was serviced at bommarito south for this same issue, during that service visit, they couldn't replicate the issue but they inaccurately reprogrammed the pcm following the tech service bulletin #04-06-063 (in reference to idle flair).this service did not correct the problemon 4/08/05, vehicle was serviced at bommarito south for the same issue again and the throttle body and accelerator cable were replaced.this apparently also did not solve the problem.on september 9, 2005 with approximately 9524 miles on the vehicle, while slowing down in 5th gear and leveling my speed out at approximately 30 mph, i released the gas pedal and engaged the clutch in order to downshift. It sounds to me that they don't know what is going on.
While driving in a city area the accelerator stuck causing the vehicle to continue at a high rate of speed even with the brake fully depressed.the driver of the vehicle was able to pull into an empty parking lot, pull up the emergency brake and turn off the vehicle.on restarting the motor, the engine continued to rev at a high rpm.on checking the throttle body, the throttle appeared to remain partially open without the accelerator foot pedal being depressed.after manually pushingit back in place, the problem could not be duplicated, and no apparent cause was found.appears to be a defect that caused problem to occur intermittently.
While accelerating the accelerator pedal stuck. Consumer managed to decelerate the vehicle to shut down, and restart the ignition.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.the consumer stated the vehicle will get stuck in a very high idle causing the tachometer to almost enter the red zone.it was most noticeable went he clutch was depressed during a heavy down pour, however it happened it occasionally happened anytime.the dealer stated a technical service bulletin had been issued regarding the idle flair, however the consumer thought their diagnoses was incorrect. After numerous conversations, the dealer finally replaced the entire throttle pedal assembly and throttle cable. The consumer stated the problem still has not be resolved.
The cruise control on the bottom of my steering wheel has come undone.the case housing around it popped off, and now it won't secure back onto it.the three control buttons used for cruise control now slide out, and the "on" button won't stay pressed.the car works fine, short of the frustrations of not being able to use cruise control, and having that major eye sore inside the vehicle.
Clicking noise coming from dashboard. From researching internet other consumers have same problem said they were told it was multi-function switch. I had not heard the clicking before just started all of a sudden. I have not had it fixed yet because i didn't know what was causing it.
My girlfriends 2004 pontiac grand am (v6)has a problem with her windshield wiper motor transmission link.on the link itself there is a plastic ball socket that connects the link to the motor transmission.this plastic socket is defective and slips off of its connection thus making the driver side wiper useless.in heavy rain it is very dangerous and she had to pull over many times.the part from the dealer is 161.00 and not easily affordable. To prove my case even further i went to a car junk yard and found a used linkage.this car had engine problems and the windshield assembly wasn't affected at all.i took the part home put it on her car and it worked for a few months.it rained today and she went to use it and once again the linkage has slipped off its socket.i really do believe the cheap plastic they used to make this connection to the transmission is defective.they could of used a light metal material or anything but plastic.once again we see big business cutting corners to save money at the consumers expense.
One day i went to roll up my window and when i pushed the up button, the window started going up but it suddenly stopped like it was caught on something. I continued to push the up button and the window wouldn't move. So i pushed the down button and the window went down. So i pushed the up button again and the window went up and made a noise like it got caught again and the window went up. Since that day it has continued to get caught up but continues to go up.
The drivers side window does not work. It has never worked and either has my car lighter even though i have had it in the shop a few times. There is a lot of complaints and they are all the same. The window goes neither up and or down.

Weather stripping around windshield popping off.
The contact owns a 2004 pontiac grand am. The contact stated that whenever it rains or snows, the windshield failed to work; however, during normal weather conditions the windshield wipers operate normally. The contact has not taken the vehicle to a dealer and has not called the manufacturer regarding the malfunction.the contact stated that the faulty wipers could potentially cause a crash during inclement weather. The failure mileage was 60,000.
I have had to replace the windshield wiper transmission on my 2004 pontiac grand am 3 times, if i go thru a car wash it breaks my wipers every time, my drives side wiper would not work at all, finally i had to get it checked out by a mechanic and he told me it would cost 500 plus to fix, thankfully i found a part at a junk yard for 50.00 and replaced it, about a month later i went thru a car wash and it broke again, i think that water pressure shouldn't break it! also my security light keeps coming on, i have no idea why, it goes off after being on a few mins, also my dashis peeling very bad, which every grand am i have looked at is peeling, it blocks my dash and everything and its putting pressure on my front window! thanks!
Lug bolts sheared off passenger front. Oem rotor had roughly 3/16 inch play causing the wheel hub to slam against it. There is lug thread marks on the rotor.
The tires loose air all the time, been told it has to do with the rims.
