This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. I bought a car from budget auto sales and i had numerous issues including brakes, air bag, electrical, gas leaking,brake lines, steering problems, muffler and exhaust problems along with bad tires and getting motor mounts replaced, changing all fuses and both driver and passenger and driver side mirrors, tire rods and axle shaft also. The car was in the shop constantly while i made consistent on time payments. The car was supposed to have had an airbag replaced when i paid for a rental car. My car was in the shop for 4 days . Later on i got into a bumper to bumper accident because my brake lines were incapable after sending them into the shop.after going to the pontiac dealership and paying 200 dollars to hook my airbag up it was coded that my car had been in an accident on one of the days the car was at the dealership getting serviced. The dealership told me that they would clear my dash board so none of my lights would appear. When i took the vehicle into numerous auto shops multiple companies informed me that they either couldnt fix thecar or that it wasn't worth fixing. The vehicle is barely running today and i am still putting more money into it. I asked the dealership numerous times to give me my old car back or give me my money back. Even after i payed the vehicle off early the dealership told me that they have the right to refuse service and that they didnt want the car. I believe that i was taken advantage of and that the car is unsafe and they put me in a death trap so they could line their pockets and take advantage of a single disabled mother just trying to have decent reliable transportation. I would have filed a report with the attorney general but the car is over 8 years old and i wasn't aware that i could file a claim until just recently.

Sustained facial injuries in a single vehicle accident (car vs. Telephone pole). Was wearing seatbelt when contacted black ice, vehicle left the road and struck a telephone pole head-on driver side which totaled the vehicle and broke the pole in half. Upper torso struck steering wheel and head struck center console resulting in loss of consciousness and deep facial laceration/ avulsion over left brow. Shoulder restraint did not engage and neither driver side nor passenger side airbags deployed at any time. It is in the opinion of unnamed professionals that the airbag/ shoulder restraint might have prevented or limited/ reduced the injuries sustained in the accident. No citation was written for failure to control or speeding, neither was there any suspicion of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The vehicle was purchased used from a reputable dealership and was certified that all safety devices were intact and functional at the time of purchase.

As a result of being 'cut off', my vehicle swerved on a busy interstate and ultimately struck virtually head-on a concrete barrier dividing the n and s bound lanes. I suffered a right broken wrist (in 3 places), my passenger suffered a concussion, my grandson a broken leg and my granddaughter only emotional distress. Neither airbag deployed. It is clearly stated in the owner's manual that they are deploy when crashing into such a barrier at between 9-14 mph.

The car that crashed into me was a deputy not on duty disregarded a stop sign hit me head onfrom front to side totaling my vehicle, the air bags on either side never deployed. I suffered from my hips being off line and had gone to the chiropractor for 6 months.

While traveling to an appointment with my 5 month old daughter, i saw that there was some slush on the road ahead so i let up off of the accelerator so i could slow down. The car started to swerve so i tried to veer to the right of the road because i noticed 2 tractor trailers coming at me in the opposite direction. The car then spun out of control, did a complete 360 degree turn and ended up in the other lane of traffic where one of the tractor trailers slammed into me almost completely head on, spun me around, hit me in the rear, then spun me around again and ran over the front end of the car. Neither air bag deployed. I turned 90 degrees in the driver's seat and hit the steering wheel with my left side and shoulder. My left leg took out the complete center console including the gear shift and the e-brake. My daughter was not injured, but i am going through physical therapy to regain strength in my left arm because i severely damaged the muscles that attach to my shoulder. Because of this i am not permitted to work. The tractor trailer was also totaled upon impact and 150 gallons of deisel fuel were spilled. On 12/21/01 i was involved in an auto accident where the individual at fault ran a red light and crashed into my vehicle.upon the arrival of the paramedics, i was restrained and told i had to be removed from the vehicle immediately, because my airbags never activatedand to avoid further injury.even after my removal from the vehicle, the airbags never activated.i was told that if i were not wearing my seatbelt i would be dead today, but somehow i must have incurred the chest pain upon contact with the steering wheel.the car is totaled.presently my only injury is with my lower back, the pain in my chest has subsided.

The consumer recieved recall notice to have the low voltage light serviced, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired, since therepair the consumer has been experiencing problems with the turn signals and digital display of the radio, the turn signal only work about half the time and the digital display is only partially lit on start-up, the vehicle has been back to the dealer two times but the problem still is not fixed.

All of my gauges only work occasionally, as well as the turn signals, so far no accident and i haven't taken it to the dealership yet. This has been happening of and on for about 3 weeks.

The security light comes on and then i can't start the car. The dealership says to put it in the acc mode until the light is solid. But that takes 10 minutes. The failure to start comes in daily, and take me ten or twenty minutes to star my car. The pass-lock feature for the car in malfunction. And now i have to reset daily. I purchased my 2000 pontiac grand am used.i've had it 3 years and have had break problems for at least 2 of the 3 years.my mechanic can not find any reason why i've had so many problems and when i spoke with pontiac headquarters they informed me that since i did not have a documented case through a car dealership there was nothing they could do.i informed them that my private mechanic kept detail records but pontiac informed me that even if i did use a dealership the problems i'm having are part of the normal wear and tear of a vehicle.my breaks have been grinding, squealing, thumping and now the whole front end is creaking.i've gone through several pairs of breaks front and back.i've gotten new rotors, have had the rotors cut.i've gotten new calipers but this still hasn't fixed my problem.at times i feel i am riding in an unsafe vehicle.my car has been looked at one month and less than 30 days later my brakes will be fully worn down.i just don't know how to have the problem corrected.on top of it all, the ignition has been changed, the drivers side seat springs are coming through the seat, the radios volume will go up and down for no reason, i've had to replace the whole turn signal / hazards signal part, the trunk leaks and of course none of it is under warranty.i still have a little over a year left to pay on the vehicle and pontiac could care less.

This car will be going down the road and the car will stop running! this has been going on for months,you can be going 60 or 20 miles per hour and the car will shut off put it in park and most of the time it will start right back up. Security light comes on and car won't start.from what i have investigated it sounds like the passlock module is having issues.this has happened numerous times over the past 2 years and the mechanics trouble shoot by changing out part that have cost me over a $1000 but still the problem persists.gm doesn't recognize the passlock system as a problem but there is one and there is no good way to diagnose it.just because no one is injured it is not right that we have to experience this type of problem.from what i have read itis not only my 2000 grand am but a lot of other pontiacs have experienced the same problem..

2000 pontiac grand am: at any given time the cars security light comes on after starting the engine, sometimes i notice it is on while driving down the road. Other times it comes on before the engine starts and i have to wait 15 minutes as the manual states, very inconvenient especially when you have just finished pumping gas.also i have been having problems with my turn signal clicking while i am going down the road. Even when i don't touch my signal it just clicks constantly. The light however doesn't come on while it is doing this. I cant count the number of times this has happened. I did take the car to the dealer for the turn signal sound and they couldn't find anything wrong.

1.the vehicle has had a gas smell since purchase in 03.i had it into dealership whom said there was no problem.i found out from internet pages this is a common intake seal problem that should have been repaired while under 2 year extended warranty.smell of gas has made persons sick.2.fan control switch fails and only works on #3 setting or higher.3.turn indicators fail intermittently.4.electronics computer fails intermittently and has to be reset by turning the car off and restarting.(was this made by microsoft?).

The security passlock is malfunctioning again, i have spent $1,500.00 trying to get it fixed which was 4 times in the shop and each time they said they thought they got it fixed.the passlock cuts off the gas to the engine i can be anywhere shut off the engine come back and try to start the car and it will not start and the security light is on.

Replaced recall ignition switch had to always jiggle key after that. 2 years later getting worse shuts off by self perioducally ignition switch never replaced right.

I was driving along a highway at about 70 mph and the engine just died on me.fortunately, traffic was light and i managed to coast onto a slip road.once i had stopped, i put the car in park and tried to start the engine.the engine wouldn't even turn over.a few minutes later, i tried starting the engine again.this time the engine turned over fine (normal speed) but wouldn't start.i left it another 10 minutes and tried again.this time the engine started fine and i could continue on my way to work.i suspect there is a problem with the security feature ("passlock") on my car, as i have had occasional problems starting my car in parking lots when the "security" light has come on.but this is the first time i've had a problem while driving (at high speed) so of course it could be something else.

In the end of august 2006 i started having trouble with starting my 2000 grand am gt. It would not turn over as normal. After a couple of tries, it would work normally except the "trac off" light would stay lit. Then it started to stall while i was driving it. I thought perhaps something was wrong with my alternator. I took it to a repair shop to have the diagnostics ran on it.they could find no reason and advised me that it could be a computer problem. They said it seemed that the computers were not communicating and the accessory computer would probably have to be reprogrammed. On september 22, 2006, the car would not start at all.i had the car towed to the dealer for repair.after they ran their own diagnostics, they advised me that the "fuse block in the engine compartment was corroded and had to be replaced".is this a normal thing for a six year old car?i had stalled out while on an expressway traveling at 50 mph. Fortunately, i was able to pull to the side and restart the car.looking at the recall investigations, i noticed several that referred to stalling and fuel pump problems.the dealer told me that the wiring inside the "corroded fuse block contained the wiring to the fuel pump and was not allowing the computer to send the fuel pump the correct messages". Perhaps my problem is not unique.i am currently waiting for the new part to come in and will request the old part.thank you.

On my 2000 grand am the turn signals will work ok for a while then they will stop.at this time the hazard warning switch also will not operate.since this problem was started "both" fog lights will not come on (both has been checked out twice and can find no problems).now the power door switch on the driver side will work off and on along with the keyless remote (the only way to lock and unlock door is manually).all these problems started about the same time.i noticed there is a recall #03v327000.spoke with gmc today and was told that it would be maybe april before letters would be sent and they were not sure my vehicle would be included.this is the second complaint regarding this vehicle.in 2003 i tried to get rotor replaced while auto was covered under warranty.i had a repair shop tell me it was bad rotor that caused pads to go bad.gmc advised me to take it to a dealer (were purchased it).dealer said no the rotor was ok but the pads were bad which made the rotor go bad.this recall notice was vsg19990282.however because dealer disagreed with repair shop i had to pay for the repairs.i wrote to gmc on april 9, 2003 and never received a reply.

I purchased my 2000 pontiac grand am used with 27000 miles on july of 2001.in october of 2001 i had my first brake job, february 2002, july 2002, march 2003brakes checked on 2 other occasions for noise.car was serviced in march 2003 for brakes and alignment - 5 weeks later car caught fire driving in traffic.the smoke was coming from under the hood, the fire dept. And police wereon the scene in less than 10 minutes - the car was totaled.cause is under investigation.

The turn signals only work some of the time. I can turn the hazards on and this fixes the problem most times till i try to use the turn signals again. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find a problem. My mechanic has looked at it, witnessed the problem, but can't determine the cause. Both the fuses and relay have been replaced to try to fix the problem. It seems to be worse when it rains or is damp out.

It is my belief that this vehicle may also have had a ignition switch problem like later models. I believe that looking into these faulty ignition switches in earlier models should be investigated. For the last 3.5 years i have just explained my daughters accident as just an automobile accident, but after seeing some of the crash scene photos from a newer vehicle accidents they seem too familiar to what my daughters accident looked like.the airbags were never deployed, the abs brakes did not work, the skid marks showed no sign of braking only sliding. If you investigate fatality accidents with earlier model gm cars the death toll will most likely be greater than the 13 that gm is currently admitting to. Please investigate older model cars so that people who have lost loved ones can have real closure and not just speculation.

Sometime when i try to start my car the security light comes on out of the blue. Why it comes on randomly i have no idea. I have to wait 10 minutes to try to start the car. Last year in may i tried to start the car and the security light can on so in 10 minutes i tried again. This time the security light cam on again so i waited 10 minutes again then i tried that and it started. So basically i waited 30 minutes in a parking lot in a bad section of town. Today i had to go to school to do lab work when i was trying to leave the security light when on so i waited 10 minutes and i tried it again. So the security light came on again and i waited another 10 minutes. I tried for a third time and the security light went on. I have yet to try again because i'm afraid the security light will come on for a fourth time. What is the world is wrong with this picture? what's the point of having a security system if it thinks i'm trying to steal my own car. If i'm going to steal a car don't you think i'm going to steal something better and more expensive than a pontiac seriously!

My pontiac grand am gt1 was parkedin the driveway. I had driven it 45 -60 minutes before i parked it for the night. I heard a knock at my door and it was the fire dept. Extinguishing out a fire on the rear end of my car! i couldn't believe what i was seeing i sure didn't hear anything prior to this event. All the tail lamps ,spoiler.essentiallyall that's left of the rear end is the metal all the plastic burned into a molten pile of the driveway. The car was parked and locked up for the night so i would like to know who is responsible for this.the fire dept said most likely electrical fire. I just need my car fixed. I have no other means of transportation.

I have had this vehicle for 14 years & have multiple issues with it in that the ignition switch has been replaced 2 to 3 times in the first 3 years of owning the car and never did work property; i had to have the intake gasket done & the head gasket done; i too had an issue w/ the abs light being on and a wire or something was off.luckily i have a relative who is a mechanic and did not have to endure the upcharge of the dealership however, these were costly expenses none the less.i contacted gm about the ignition switch & was told my vin was not part of the recall.i also contacted my local news station to try to investigate later model ignition switch issues with no result.i believe this needs further review.my car currently has 185k miles on it but only had about 150 3 yrs ago when the intake & head went. And as i stated the ignition switch never worked property (always a clicking sound like the turn signal was on coming from the ignition - i was also able to remove the key from the ignition & drive the vehicle w/ the ignition in the on position).

Sometimes my blinker will stop working. You can hear it going but you will not see it appear on the dash and the it will start working again after a while.also there is times where i've just used the blinker and then it will continue to sound like it's still blinking but it's not on just the sound of the blinker is still going. I also have a problem with the key turning at all until i turn the wheel a bit.

Passlock/security light malfunction.when starting the car, the security light will flash and not allow the car to completely start.engine will crank but not turn over.leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes and the system will reset and the car will start.a couple days later the same problems will happen.sometimes during driving, red security light will come on, but will not affect anything to impair driving.was told ignition needs to be replaced, but problem still happens after it has been fixed.

The security light would come on and i was unable to start the car. I took it to a pontiac dealership for repair and they replaced the ignition switch and the body control module twice. The problem is resolved now but took several services to rectify the problem. I have also had to replace the water pump, head gasket. Thermostat and valve cover gasket 3 times. Replaced all gaskets twice. Headlight stay on at all times when car is running.

When using the turn signalsconsumer noticed that the turn signals would work intermittently.the hazard light also worked intermittently. If the dash were tapped above the flasher button, it would sometimes make the turn signal begin to work.when the key was turned in the ignition the trunk lid immediately opened and a security message was displayed on the dash.once the trunk lid was closed the car would not start.a later attempt to start the car was successful, however after shutting off the car, the next attempt opened the trunk lid again.the left front window quit working around the same time that the turn signal started to act up.

Replaced passlock cylinder because security light would turn on and unable to start vehicle, engine wanted to turn off when driving ,after replacement, had to replace low coolant sensor, now radio, clock, and wipers don't work and car is wanting to stall while driving, battery light comes on and have to put on park at a light and press the gas so it won't stall .

This car had this problem when i bought it but i had no other choice, i had to buy something. Besides, they told me that they "thought" that they may have fixed it....wrong! when they had the problem with the car, apparently everything was checked & replaced but with no luck. The 02 sensor was replaced a couple times, tune ups, fuel filters, etc....they even hooked it up to a diagnostic machine and it didn't detect a thing. I am no expert but............1st of all; the car only stalls when i take my foot off the pedal. I could be doing 65 down the highway, but as soon as i take my foot off the gas....dead! the car totally cuts off. No funny sounds, hesitation, smells, etc. It just dies. When i 1st start the car (the initial start up), i make it about a couple blocks before i have to drive "two footed" so the car wont stall. There were a few more problems with the car when i first bought it that have since stopped or just got worse. All electrical issues. For example: the car has day time running lights. At times i would have to actually turn the lights to the "off" position b/c the high beams would start going nuts and flash like a police car. But that has stopped, so idk wth that was. My blinkers stop working whenever they feel like it, and then will work again just like that. I have a "service engine soon" light and a "check engine" light; both light up on occasion. So does my traction control, etc...... But nothing is wrong?!?!?! i beg to differ. However...........if there is already a really screwed up electrical problem, would the diagnostic machine actually be able to find a problem?? this car is a death trap.

The vehicle does not start. I was told by the pontiac dealer to put the ignition in the accessory position to reset the computer for about ten minutes and it works. This has happened a dozen times since i've owned the car in 2004. I fear this is related to the gm recalls on the unintended key rotation which my car is covered and the cylinder lock replacements on certain vehicles which i am not covered.i wonder why gm is replacing some cylinder locks and not all the defected ones. I want mine replaced, i know this is a safety hazard and fear driving this vehicle! can you help me. Thank you!

I have had constant electrical problems in my vehicle.it started with the turn signals working intermittently, then my power windows would work intermittently, then my sunroof would do so as well.i have had the switch replaced for my turn signals, and they have worked fine since.i had the motor replaced for my sunroof, and it has also worked fine.however, the power windows still work intermittently, and the motor has been replaced 3 times.gee, maybe it isn't the motor?!?!?!i have also had brake rotor wear problems, which almost caused an accident.dealer said rotors looked as if i had been storing my vehicle for years they were so rusted.i urge anyone considering the purchase of a pontiac to re-think their decision.

I would like to report yet another customer that has a pontiac grand am with the pass key security system defect. It occurs at random intervals. There is no rhyme or reason for it. I am on a search and rescue team. My ability to have a reliable vehicle is essential to me performing my duties safely and reliably. This is unacceptable to have thousands of complaints for the same reason and yet the manufacturers do nothing to resolve it. I cannot afford to replace my vehicle yet, but rest assured, my next vehicle will not support a company that permits this to continue. I am also being very vocal about this issue and notifying everyone i know via word of mouth and social networking.

Blinkers & hazards do'nt work properly brakes always making noises and rubbing sounds

Brakes will not hold when being applied, and vehicle does not stop. Consumer stated part was replaced 7 times. Problem still reoccurring.. Vehicle also had a suspension problem, the battery was replaced, and consumer was complaing of poor acceleration, dealer replaced the pcv valve and filter.

Abs lights and "warning" lights are coming on dashboard, and there isvibration coming from vehicle during normal operation. Dealership has examinedvehicle,and has replaced brake rotors and front wheel bearings. The steering wheel shakes and the vehicle pulls to the right when brakes are applied.the vehicle fuel milage was poor about 17 mpg, also the speaker and alternator are noisy.

My car has been in the shop repeatedly for the brakes grinding and shaking when i brake. The rotors have been replaced twice for rusting and warping and the brakes once, under warranty. I have had water leaks, my dash has been replaced for warping, 2 door panels have been replaced for warping. I have 2 more that need to be replaced, but the dealership says "it's a common problem, but it's not covered under the extended warranty". I have lots of wind noise. A rotten egg smell in my car when driving it. I took my car to the dealer last week and they replaced a gasket/seal for a intake gasket leak. I went to pick up my car and it reeked of gasoline. They kept it another day and had to replace my fuel regulator. Now i cannot keep my windows closed because there is a odor of gas in my car, which causes my eyes to burn and water and my throat to burn. My hazards/blinkers have gone out once already. Two other times i had it in the shop for a clicking noise in my dash area and it was something with my hazards that had to be replaced. My passenger seat would not adjust, they say they fixed it? the transmission slips on occasion and that has been since i took possession of the lemon. My horn quit working and was finally fixed after repeatedly taking it into the dealer. It is hesitant to start at times and when it finally starts the front end shakes, like the motor mounts are bad.

The problem that i am having with my vehicle is that the security light comes on when trying to start the vehicle and will not let me start it. I have two children and am pregnant and was stranded in the middle of a storm because of this problem. After the light comes on, i usually have to wait for 30min.- 1 hr. Before it will go off and the vehicle will start. This problem has happened 7 times now in the past 6 months. I have complained several times to the service dealer, and they keep giving me the run around and say nothing is wrong and can't find anything. If nothing is wrong, why does it keep happening?? a friend of mine has the same vehicle and is having the same problem. I have bumped the key in the ingition 3 times with my right knee since i have had the car and it shut the car off while driving or stading at a stop light...i am almost 6 foot tall and my seat was adjusted properly.this really caught me by suprise the first time it happend..i was getting adjusted in my seat at a stop light and my knee must have bumped the key and the car shut off... This happend 2 other times while driving.... I think this could be a very seroius problem.all 3 times i shifted into n and was able to restart the car of coarse the brakes and stering were not power assisted...i had no other keys on my car key ring except the key less remote which would be standard to have on my key for the car.

If there should ever be an emergency where i had to hurry and start the car, and this happened, i would be out of luck. Something needs to be done about this. It is a common problem with several gm cars.

I was in the parking lot at work, and luckily a man stopped to ask if my security light was lit on the dashboard. (i thought it may be ignition/fuel pump/etc.) sure enough, the security light was flashing. He explained to me that he also drives a gm, and this had been occurring with his car. He said that after researching with the gm dealer, he learned that if a person waited 10 minutes the car would most likely start, which it did. (the anti-theft device actually cuts off the fuel pump, and due to lack of gasoline, the engine won't start.) the next day, i called the pontiac dealer myself, and was told that the problem was most likely the anti-theft controller, and was quoted approx. $500-600 to repair. I have been reading more and more incidents like mine, and frankly don't have the $600 to spend to repair, however, i am very concerned that this defect may leave me stranded somewhere in an unfavorable situation. Is there anything you can do to help have this issue looked at as a possible recall, and have the manufacturer fix? thank you for your help.

Faulty security system;the car will start and run one minute and the next time the car will not start because the anti-theft feature will activate for no apparent reason the only thing the dealership tells me is the same put the key in the ignition turn to acc position wait ten minutes and try to start, and it usually does.i had a friend take his 2002 grand am to the dealership for the same reason and they replaced a chip on his computer and charged him 400.00 dollars which did not fix the problem, and they tell him the same thing put your key in turn to acc position and wait ten minutes , and low and behold the car starts, i could have told him that and not charged him 400.00 dollars.basically no one seems to know how to fix this issue, i was told how to deactivatethe anti-theft device by removing two yellow wiresand hooking them together the problem with that is the security light stays on all the time, but will always start.this problem is really starting to wear on me and as i said their is a lot of other grand am owners from the 90's to present that have the same problem . G.mdoesn't know how to repair the problem, or doesn't care.

My 2000 pontiac grand amgt will, sometimes, not start and when this happens, my security light flashes. After about 10 minutes, the light will stop flashing and theni can start the car.at times, while driving, the car automatically shuts off.i have to pull over and then restart the car. So far i have not had an accident because of this. I have replaced all that has been suggested, battery, ignition switch, and battery cables.i continue to have this problem and have searched other sources on internet. Hundreds of other customers have reported having this same problem and one found out it is a security passlock system problem. Pontiac dealer in my area said they no longer bypass the security system which is suppose to fix this problem.

Dt*:the contact stated when the anti-theft controller light illuminated the vehicle failed to start upon the first attempt.after waiting ten minutes and turning the ignition on a second time the vehicle started.the problem occurred intermittently.upon inspection the dealership determined the anti-theft controller sensor needed to be replaced.the consumer stated it would take at least 5 attempts to get the vehicle started. Passlock failure. Passlock shuts down fuel supply. It is suppose to if the passlock/ignition reports to the computer that the ignition has been tampered with.hundreds of times passlock comes on and i cannot start my car without waiting and doing the 10 minute procedure. Happened while i was at a 7-11 one time, some unsavory looking characters same over to me, i flashed my pepper spray and cell phone and said i am calling the police. Luckily they ran off.also comes on while i am driving which is extremely dangerous. Car would die completely or run ok if not on a hill or incline. Happened so many times that the fuel pump needed to be replaced at 50,000 miles. Two pontiac dealers suggested new ignition to be installed to "see" if that will fix it. I will not pay to "see" if that will fix it. As i research the internet over 17,000 people have had the same problem and reported it to various sites. Those are only the people who think of looking on the internet to see if it is a common problem. I did write gm recently to see if they could do something. Have not heard back yet.can you help? as i research i have found cars and suv's that have had the same problems since 1999. Why hasn't gm discontinued or fixed that passlock issues in all those years? must cost to much have a recall. Does someone have to die? hope not. Pontiac grand am.

The passlock system in the car is failing for the third time since we've owned it. The security light comes on and won't allow the car to start for 10 minutes. It was about $400.00 to fix the last time and is starting to fail again after about one year.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac grand am. While drivingapproximately 35 mph the security light on the instrument panelilluminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the entire security system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure continued to occur. In addition, the vehicle would not start without turning the ignition into the on position and allowing it to remain in the on position for approximately 10 minutes. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 118,000.

On the day i bought the car i took my family out to dinner. We returned to the car after finishing our dinner and the car would not start. We tried for almost 1/2 hour then called for the road side assistance. They came and picked up the car and we went to the dealership. They told me it was a computer component and the car would be ready the following day. After arguing on how we would get home since the dealership was now closed as was the rental car place they finally agreed to let a porter take us home, the porter had a small car that would only hold 4 people and there were 6 of us. Theis meant 2 trips and we lived nearly 30 minutes away. Long story short a very dissapointing first day with my new vehicle.within a few months my drivers window would not work or worked when it felt like it. I took it in and they replaced the window regulator. Problem solved, then a few months later the window would not work again with the regulator. It worked for almost 2 years then it started up once again and still being under warrenty (gmpp)they took the car in to look at. I left it for a day and returned to be told the window was fine and yes it was working. A few more months go by and the window is not working so i go in again and again it works for them not me. This goes on with me taking the car in and the button works when the tec looks at it then after i leave it does not.i was in town 05/03/2004 and the window went part way down and stuck, i quickly went to rally chevrolet, where all the repair services have been done, and showed them the window would not go up or down. I thought finally this will be taken care of but no i was told taht the warrenty was out and i was over mileage and the cost for the front and rear window would be nearly $1,000.00. I told the service manager that the problem existed before the warrenty ran out and i felt that they should honor that and not charge me.

Vehicle accelerated, 6 times, applied brakes, but would not stop vehicle. Consumer has to shut off ignition. Took vehicle to dealer 6 times, replaced computer twice, could not remedy situation.

I own a 2000 pontiac grand am gt.at about 15,000 miles my blinkers starting either just comming on by theirself or would not work at all. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced the hazard switch.then, about 6 thousand miles later, my front end started shaking and making noise.i took it to the dealer and they said my brakes were down to the rotor and i would need new brakes and rotors.i asked if it would be covered under warranty, and they said the warranty only covered the brakes until 20,000 miles and it would cost me $500 to fix the problem.i took the car to my mechanic and had performace brakes and rotors put on my car for $375 (i had read a few reports of others having problems and having to go back to the dealer every 5-6 thousand miles and did not want to go through that, and concider myself luchy that they lasted as long as they did.).i have put another 15,000 miles on my performace brakes and rotors with no problems.my mechanic also saw that i had a plug in my right front tire.i have never had to take my car in for a flat since i have owned the vehicle, so my guess is that the dealer put the plug in the tire. I have been reading similar complaints from people that own 2001, 2002, and even 2003 grand ams. Apparently they are using cheap parts on a "performace car" and are ignoring the problem and something need to be done, before someones brakes go out completely.there is also a problem with the passengers front seat not locking in place.if you do not push the seat back all the way fairly hard and check the seat lever to make sure that it came back up, the seat will slide all the way fwd during even light breaking.the seat has done this since i have owned the car.if they used better components on their car and would stop cutting corners they would not be having theses problems.

While driving vehicle locks up and stalls out. Unable to start it back up, and hesitates to catch. It feels like it was about to start, but it doesn't. Next day vehicle will not start, doing the same thing.contacted dealer several times, they could notfindcause. Gmc employee sad this was a common problem involvingignition switch.

On 2 separate occasions the key failed to turn in the ignition.vehicle had to be towed on both occasions.vehicle sat for 2 days before itwill turn in the ignition. Dealership was unable to identify whatwas causing this to occur.

The key in my 2000 grand am would not turn to start the vehicle.the tumbler fell out.to fix this problem the whole ignition switch had to be replaced. *la

On 3-14-12 the ignition switch had been on and i took it in to get looked into at the don ledford's car dealership in cleveland tn. On this date they ran test and found no leaks at all. They said it was ok to drive the car. On 07-27-12 i took the car in to get a new ignition switch because they told me at the dealership i needed a new ignition switch.the car would not start periodically and it was causing problems getting to work. They fixed or replaced it and a couple of days went by and i was still having problems with the car starting. I do have a witness on this incident that the car would not start with the new ignition switch. On 08-09-12 and the electrical part on the ignition switch shorted out and they replaced the switch. What would have happen if i had gotten in an accident because ofthis default. I paid over five hundred dollars for this ignition switch and now 2014 they are recalling the ignition switches on these cars and fixing them for free at no cost. I do believe they need to give me my money back for these repair cost when the part was bad at first when they made this car? i tried to get a in touch with the manager of don ledford's on north lee hwy. And he will not call me back. Should i get a lawyer??

My car has electrical problems. It started two weeks after i purchased my 2000 grand am brand new. It started with the check engine soon like coming on and giving a code that i was running the car with the fuel cap off. After the third time they realized it is an error. Then the doors started locking theirselves. I have had 3 stereos installed, all having electronic problems and now my airbag light keeps coming on randomly and not giving a code when hooked up to read it. No one can give me a straight answer. I have been into the dealer so many times.i have now had the car 2 1/2 years. The warranty will be off soon and they still cannot fix or even explain my problems.ts

My wife was driving my car to work at 6:30 am on highway. It is a 2000 pontiac grand am with 88,000+ miles.never had a problem like this before. The factory installed cd stopped playing. She reinserted it. It stopped again. She glanced in her rear view mirror to see what appeared to be a silvery glow at the rear passenger side speaker. Then a fire from the speaker. By the time the car was able to stop along side the highway, the flames filled the whole rear window. She tried to open the door, it remained locked. She tried to open the driver window, it would not release. The flames were now over head and along the passenger seat . She shut the car off, pulled out the key and the door finally opened. She got out of there, opened the back door and got out her purse on the floor. She beat it down the highway. She looked back and could see flames now under the car and the inside completely burning. Two trucks had stopped and the guys had fire extinguishers to put out the fire. Then the fire truck and police arrived. The fire was completely doused out. The only thing not burnt was the front end and the engine. She came seconds from losing her life. National will treat this as a total write off but i almost lost my wife (it could have been me that day). Have you ever heard of anything so freaky? a speaker on fire?

I contacted general motors about a recall onthis vehicle. It has to do with the hazard signal, preventing the turn signals from working correctly. It only works intermittently. They had recalled the 2000 pontiac grand am, which wasthe car i drive because of this defect. When i called them they told me thatthe vehicle's was not recalled due to the vin.since this is a defect, and can endanger my life i think they should fixthe car for free. I can't afford to get this fixed on my own. As you well know the dealerships charges a lot of money to fix anything onthe car. I can't buy a new hazard signal from autozone or o'reiley's auto parts, and just have my friend put it on since the only placeonecan purchase thisparticular hazard signal is from the dealership.i wonder why?i ambeing sarcastic!.there has been no incident/accident as of yet.

Veh started on fire fire in the engine.

Recurring problem with water getting into passenger side fuse box. We have repaired 4 for the same problem. Gm has a tsb letting you know about this problem, due to either a defective water deflector in the door or a passenger side "a" pillar seam problem. Should be a recall as we have already repaired one customer once and they are coming in again for the same problem.

Consumer states:that when they turn off blinker lights that there is a tickng sound inside the dash, as if the blinker were still on. It also does it even when just driving without using the blinker and so as you start vehicle

While driving in inclement weather water leaked into fuse box and ran onto the floor of the vehicle. Consumer took vehicle to dealerfor inspection, and mechanic informed consumer that this vehicle was not onrecall and warranty expired.

Turn signals will not flash and work intermittently, dealer not contacted yet since problem only shows up every 2-3 weeks. Pressing hazard flasher button seems to help fix the issue.

Turn signals failed while taking car for service for the service engine soon light. Drivers side front window also failed at this time. Occasionally, headlights won't operate on bright. Dealer has replaced window motor once, multi-function switch twice, and hazard switch twice. I still only have turn signals about 10 percent of the time.drivers side window will not open.the steering has also locked up on one occasion. At that time , the horn also started blowing repeatedly.dt

Consumer parkedin the driveway and shutvehicle off.a family member informed consumer thatvehicle was on fire. Consumer called the emergency rescue department to put the fire out.fire department informed consumer that the fire started from the dashboard.

Turning signals / flashers / hazard flashers don't work, also dome light inside of car does not work

First incident was in 2005 - intake manifold gasket leaking oil, car overheated on my way to work could not drive home.car towed to mechanic - after evaluation it cost me $700.00 to fix.then in 2007 my abs brake system was not working properly, mechanic told me that left wheel hub was damaged and sensor was not working, so i had it changed $300.00.then in 2008 i had the right wheel hub changed due to same problem as left side $300.00 more.in 2009 the power steering belt was problem left me stranded @walmart in pa, had car towed to mechanic he changed power steering belt plus other time running belts at same time.cost me $375.00.now in dec. 2013 i have a problem again with intake manifold gasket leaking oil & antifreeze making car overheat, left me stranded in allentown, pa, had car towed to my house in stroudsburg, pa cost me $225.00.now i have been trying to get my car fixed and have been to several mechanics here and they want to charge me from 1,200 to 2,000 for the work.i think this should be a recall issue because there has been many other owners with the same issue.i also make sure that i service my car for oil changes, all fluids and state inspection on timely basis.get new tires when needed i rather donate it then spend more money on the car.many mechanics i went to say that this particular model has these issues, the cost of the parts is under $100 but the labor is the most because it takes about 6 to 7 hours to do work and half the engine has to be removed which makes it difficult to do work quickly.word of advice when buying a new car, find out about repair cost for car because once your warranty is over the cost are outrageous.if you know of a good mechanic that doesn't charge an arm or a leg please advise, thanks.

Intake manifold ,lower gasket rotted away, mixing oil and antifreeze, like a blown head gasket, i hear there are many complaints on the same engine. I feel gm should do something about this ,like a recall. It made me feel very disgusted ,i feel i will switch to a different make of car. Or at least compensate. 900.00 later.

Last month my car started revving up randomly while in park. Once i put the car in drive it would pull forward on it's own speeding up to 40 mph in the worst case. It ran so rough pulling and stopping the only thing i could do was put it in park until the rpms came back down to a normal rate. From that point on, every time i started the car when it wasn't warmed up this would happen. It used to only take about a minute for the rpms to settle and the car to run fine. Now it takes about 5 minutes of warming up, settling and then drives very poorly in first and second gear. One month later the car hesitates when given gas, begins to "rumble" slowing down, and feels like it will stall out as the cars rpms approach 0. I took the car to a mechanic and they found no problem. They said the rpms were lower than normal on idle. I read online that there could be a vacuum hose leak causing air to be forced into the engine causing the issue but that doesn't make sense. Today while turning in an intersection my steering wheel locked, pressing on the gas no longer moved the car but my radio, air conditioning and engine... Was still running. Luckily i didn't hit anyone (or was hit by anyone). After restarting the car i regained control over the steering and gas. Driving home after that the car wouldn't accelerate properly and hesitated constantly. It was as though i was driving a manual transmission car and shifting gears poorly...

When turning a corner the car will die and loose its power steering. It sometimes will happen just going down the road as well. After putting car in neutral it will restart.

Vehicle stalled intermittently while driving 30-35 mph. Vehicle was takento the dealer on several occasions, and they were unable to duplicate the problem.

Hazard/signals work intermittently, intake manifold gasket devolped a leak resulting in antifreeze leaking into my engine oil which caused a $1000.00 repair, as well as both front bearings went resulting in a $1000.00 repair as well. This is on top of the 4 windows severly scratched and loose in their tracks, radio stopped working & brakes/rotors constantly need to be replaced due to warping. I found a few recalls on 2000 grand am's, but unfortunately they keep telling me that my vin# isn't one of the ones included in the recall???... I don't have the money to continue pouring into this "lemon"!

Intake manifold gasket failure causing coolant leak on 2000 grand am gt.

My vehicle is a 2000 pontiac grand am se. When i drive for long periods of time, the car will sporardically turn off. Sometimes the trac off light comes on, sometimes it doesn't. Then i will let it sit for about 10-15 min and then try to restart it. Usually it will. I then can go only 1 or 2 miles before it occurs again.

Intake manifold gasket failure on my 3.4l v6. It was pointed out to me by the service manager, who happened to know right where to look. Being on a tight budget, i couldn't afford the $800+ dollars i was quoted. Now i carry a gallon of dex-cool to top off the system and pray the cooling system doesn't give out because of the dex-cool problem with these engines. My car was just out of warranty and they would not cover it or even offer a 50/50 deal. Gm should be held accountable.

Past vehicle warranty.estimated costs through the dealer were well over $900.00 for a blown intake gasket on this vehicle.combuination of dex-cool and an inferior gasket material is what cause this.thousands of consumers have the same problem and gm admits the intake gaskets on the 3.0,3.1,3.4 and 3.8 liter motors are bad and failing way before their supposed life expectancy.the gaskets are failing and ruining motors just as most of the vehicles are past the warranty mileage.the dealer will fix but will charge me full parts and labor.i am a mechanic and will perofrm the repair myself.

My grand am is in the shop for manifold gasket repairs caused by coolant.i had a small leak last fall 2008, didn't know there was a problem until i took to mechanic for steering repair.

The intake manifold gasket has gone bad and my car has never gotten hot or over heated for anything like this to occur.i believe it is defective gaskets in the 2000 pontiac grand am.

Pontiac grand am 2000 stalls out while driving without any warning, i don't even drive the car on major highways anymore, only drive on the back roads. The last time this happened i was lucky but this has happened too many times, 5 in all and i am afraid the next time i won't be so lucky and i will hurt not only myself but anyone who happens to be behind me when it cuts out at 60 or 65 miles an hour. It was also hard to start the car at times and the weather had nothing to do with it, and it didn't seem to matter, hot, cold , muggy, rainy, cold or damp the coolant light had been coming on intermittently and 3 days after i had it in for service the car stalled out again and the coolant light came on and stayed on, i was in a parking lot so i was safe. My husband came and found red gooey stuff in the coolant reservoir tank. Took back in for repairs and they supposedly fixed a leak and can you believe this one, put the same red stuff right back in, dex-cool, so the problem is not fixed. I also feel they should have flushed the system since i am sure it went all through the system, but iam just a woman and what could i know?? the service dept. Also reworded every repair i asked them to do, such as if i said tires were wearing unevenly, they worded it, customer states tires losing psi. I have all of my repair orders and the last one i made a copy of since i sent it to pontiac, i have proof this time in writing of my wording.this grand am has 19,967 miles on it and is 3 years old, this tells you just how often it is driven.it is too dangerous to drive any where but on back streets.

I took my vehicle in for service on jan 10, 2004 because of the smell of anti-freeze, car not heating up and sluggish behavior during driving. As it turned out, the coolant was leaking in the oil and causing these problems. My mechanic informed me of a service bulletin and class action suit against gm regarding these issues. When i notified gm (dean nelson) regarding the issue, they had no knowledge of the service bulletin. The bulletin number is 03-06-01-010a and superseded bulletin number 03-06-01-010. This bulletin covers pontiac grand am between the years of 1999-2003.in past incidents, gm accepted responsibility for this defect. This case should not be any different.*la

Out of warranty. Experiencing engine coolant leak at intake manifold. Dealer wants to replace $100.00 gasket and also flush & refill coolant @ $130.00. $970.00 for labor seems excessive to me. Appaently the engine has to be removed to perform this repair. Pontiac advertized 100,000 mile coolant on window sticker!

Gm 3.4l v6 intake manifold gasket leak

Intake manifold on 3.4l sfi v6 engine on grand am's have severe problem - lets water out of the system very fast, will let a full tank of coolant out in less than 1 hour of driving time. This causes driver to be stranded, also an environmental issue with coolant leaking everywhere. This has caused my engine to be on fire, and the repairs are extensive. Mechanics know this problem all too well, everyone i have been to has had to fix it multiple times. The procedure takes 6 full hours, requiring pricy labor on the consumers expense. New intake manifold gaskets still don't last long even after they have been replaced. Gm needs to stand behind their faulty product, and fix this problem. I will spend more in repairs on the engine, then i paid for the car - and i bought it brand new.please make gm fix this problem, it is an environmental issue with antifreeze leaking everywhere, it is a hazard to people who have to stop to refill the coolant tank just to drive, and it is a very costly and hard to get to component of the engine.

Loss of power, service engine light and smell of smoldering material. Don't know what failure is, found melted trunk liner and personal jacket.

While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled.this caused loss of braking and steering power.dealer could not duplicate the problem,although the fuel module was replaced twice.

I have replaced various components of my engine cooling system, according to the recommendations of a gm dealershipservice department, those were hoses, belts, water pumps, coolant return systems, etc due to loss of anti-freeze.i have always used the dex-cool type to refill, and surely the dealerships have done the same.yet since my warranty has expired i have spent close to $2,000 in parts and labor for the same problems.my car is sitting right now, and i don't think i should have to pay a 4th time for something that should have been fixed correctly the first time.there definitely should be a recall on this obviously defective system.

I have a 2000 pontiac grandam gt, purchased 12/27/1999.i've had troubles from peeling paint,power window wouldn't let down ,to thread coming a loose on bucket,radio digitial display not showing completed numbers,tires making noises,car hestitate and some times acts as if it wants to continue on after i have applied the brakes,sunroof leaked,now the steering wheel crackes and pops at times like herman monsters back ,oil has now enter into the dexron coolant from the engine,this is my only source of transportation when the dealership gets your car they don't want give you equal transportation to use as long as needed until your vechile has been completely repaired the expect you to continuly runback an forth because the say they can only lend the car out for thus amount of days. Then afterward rental place wants to start calling you about money on the extra time used in the car when it's not your fault your car isn't ready.

I noticed for over a year, there was coolant leakage.when it become more evident, i took my car to two different mechanics and found that i needed to replace the intake gasket.both mechanics confirmed that my problem was due to dex-cool being used and had to spend $624.92 to repair and replace parts and have my system changed over to regular antifreeze to eliminate the problem from happening again.replaced parts: gasket, water pump, thermostat, oil filter and oil, engine coolant, and valve cover gaskets.

Vehicle leaking coolant.

Engine problems and safety concerns with pontiac 2000 grand am gt. Lost all coolant in may 04, had to replace water pump and hoses.august 04 coolant light coming on only to discover the dexcool was sludgy. The sludge had transpired within 2 months and it appears that oil is leaking into the coolant due to a bad gasket.also experiencing intermittent problems with the turn signals not working which is a safety issue.called gm to find out about the recall #03043 only to be told it doesn't apply to my model of vehicle even though the recall states for grand am '00-01, along with the '00-01 cheverolet malibu and the '00-01 oldsmobile alero, all manufactured 02/01/00 to 05/01/01.i was informed my vehicle came out of a different factory at a different time according to the vin # and there may be another recall at a later time which would include my vehicle.this does not help me now with such a serious defect of equipment.is it in gm's best interest for gm consumers experiencing these issues to be involved in a serious car accident with injuries and for the consumer to sue gm for millions as opposed to going ahead and doing the recall and spending $150 per vehicle to replace the defective turn switch and making our highways safer as well as protecting the consumer from injury or harm?knowing what i know now, i would never have purchased this vehicle with this serious of issues.is there an issue with dexcool?what is causing the gasket to go bad in these cars?please help the consumers who are spending hundreds of dollars trying to fix these vehicles in which they have already invested $20,000-$25,000 into when they purchased it!thank you.

I am the owner of a 2000 ponitac grand am.last year i noticed that my coolant was leaking and took my car in for repair.after performing a pressure test on my system, the mechanic could not find the leak.i have since had trouble with coolant loss and occasionally have to add coolant, and have noticed evidence of leakage in my engine compartment.after some internet research and exploring some grand am owner sites, i have learned that there is a common problem with the upper and lower manifold intake gasket deteriorating and allowing coolant to leak out, causing a costly repair of over $1,000.in some instances, the coolant has mixed with the oil and ruined the engine.some grand am owners have petitioned general motors to recall the gaskets but so far there has been no response.i have not yet had the gaskets replaced on my car but after further examination i believe this is my problem.grand am owners like myself hope that gm will make this decision to take care of its customers and take the necessary steps to maintain consumer trust and loyalty.

My 2000 pontiac grandam gt was bought new and with 24,000 miles on it in 2004 the lower intake manifold was leaking dexcool. Kaiser pontiac in deland florida fixed the problem and now in 2009 with 50,000 miles the exact same problem is occurring.after reading several (80) complaints online there should be a recall on this problem.

Radiator is leaking coolant due toa faulty gasket. Cause of the leakage is still being determind by dealer.

About 6 months ago, i noticed my "low coolant" light came on for the first time ever.i filled the coolant filling take to the level as indicated on the tank with dex-cool as instructed.since then, i have had to add additional coolant with increasingly greater frequency.a thorough inspection of the engine and cooling system showed no external leakage.also, when changing the oil, their was coolant in the used motor oil, which has always been changed every 3000 miles.i believe the intake manifold gasket is failing, allowing coolant into the internal engine.i am attempting to contact gm for information for the repair.

I purchased this car new (my first new car) in august 2000.after the first 15,000 miles and the next 15.000 miles the brakes were replaced under warranty.after each additional 15,000 +/- miles i paid for this service out of pocket.in addition, i started paying for wheel bearings andreplaced them too many times to count.next the electrical system with the fan only working on speed 1 and 5.many dealer trips to have attempts to be fixed.problems grew to addissues with fuel pump.new fuel pump added after being stranded for a few hours on a busy highway.newest problem which we became aware of real early on was low coolant or a system which can not keep coolant in the car.the problem revisited us on xmas day as we were traveling to relatives and were stranded in upstate ny in typical climatic temperatures of less than 30 degrees f.have taken the car many times to dealers and local mechanics.problems are still adding up.included exhaust issues.carbon monoxide.what a disappointment for a first time car owner.but i have learned one lesson...will never buy gm again.never satisfied with dealer costs and fixes.after learning about all the other problems on this site that others have had very similar.i am glad that my newest car a honda sits next to the grand am.i see that gm is hurting financially and i think this speaks loudly for what consumers are feeling.i have taken care of my car and selected gm for my first car purchase, unfortunately gm has not taken care of me.i hope gm sees responses like this to help the american car companies understand that americans are not going to put up with the idea that cheap cars are made and sold to americans so that the company can sell cars cheaply and that the car's life will end the day after the last car payment thus leading the buyer to a new loan for a new car.this is a waste!

I have a intake manifold gasket leak on a 2000 pontiac grand am gt with a 3.4l fi motor. It leaks antifreeze and oil. It leaks from the center of the manifold and on to the sides of the heads. I havereplaced the gasket once myself with the help of a gm certified mechanic and after 7 months of the replacement of the gasket it once again leaks. Also when we replaced the gaskets on the intake we put new intake bolts in and had the intake checked for cracks and straightness of the base of the intake.

There is consistent, loud clicking from the internal engine.the warranty was about to expire and the dealer where i bought the car refused to work on the car.after another dealer brought the car to them, they agreed to work on the car.pontiac gm was contacted.gm said that there is a design problem with some of these pontiac grand am's.they said that when the engineers come up with a fix, it will be fixed.this was 3 months ago and nothing has been done.i cannot trade the car in because of these problems.the car has been fixed under warranty three times and been towed in to the dealer twice.i have complained to no avail.

I did not have a vehicle failure, however, after researching the problem, i was bothered by the results. On late model pontiac grand ams, mainly the intake manifold housing/gasket goes bad within any vehicle mileage range especially low mileage. I didn't even realize my gasket had gone bad until my oil light came on. The oil leak doesn't leave puddles on the ground. It gets burned on the engine block as you drive. I researched this problem on gramdamgt.com and a lot of people had this problem as well and at 15000 miles and higher. I know this costs about $800 to fix, but it's a recurring problem for dealers to take care of. Seems like its a way for them to make money by installing faulty parts in their cars, so they get the buyer's money. My warranty expired because i couldn't afford the cost of the extended warranty. I actually bought the intake and exhaust gaskets for my car, but i found that i need to buy more tools and have an extra car (which i don't have) in order to perform this job. I don't make enough money to pay my rent and support my wife and son and pay to have the problems with my car fixed and it's my only car. I rarely have time to work on it. Luckily for me the only thing that i got fixed by the dealer for free was my catalytic converter. It melted at 48000 miles. It's warranted for 8 years.

I own a 2000 pontiac grand am which was purchased at northshore pontiac buick gmc in malden, massachusetts. I have had this car towed a total of 3 times to date since the problem began approximately 2 months ago. The vehicle will stall while driving. I or my mother will drive the car and will be accelerating to approximately 30-40 mph and out of nowhere, it stalls. On 2 occasions, i and my mother were almost fatally injured as oncoming traffic from behind narrowly missed rearending us. I have noticed other similar complaints on the nhtsa website and urge you please to investigate and recall these vehicles as they are bound to kill someone. I work at a local t.v. Media outlet and have spoken with our consumer editor which is going to be looking into the matter and going public if the problem persists. In bringing this car to the dealer, northshore pontiac buick gmc, where we have been dealing with [xxx] (service dept. Manager), he has admitted there is an "intermittent problem" unknown to them. They have replaced numerous items with the hope that the problem is solved, however it continues. On 11-1-01 i submitted a complaint concerning our pontiac gt and i have heard nothing from your office.in a sentence, while driving her 2000 pontiac (34k miles) the engine just quit on her 2 times on her way to work, and the second time she called roadside tow and was towed to palmdale ca. Rally chev..the dealer could find nothing wrong so they replaced the gas line filter.my wife is completely afraid to drive the car now.

Car was running fine and the next minute there was a popping noise (like i busted a hose or something) when i turned it on.i looked on the ground and power steering fluid was running every where and leaked all out within a matter of minutes.then i tried to move the car out of the drive way and the steering wheel was so tough to turn that it felt like the wheel was locked up.now i have to get a new power steering pump, a return hose, and a serpentine belt, and the to top it off it is not under warranty anymore. I have three complaints on my 2000 grand am se:1.i just had to replace my intake manifold.it had a hairline crack in it that the dealer informed me had to be a manufacturer default because it couldn't have cracked on its own.i paid $600 to have this fixed in total.2.my air conditioner hasn't held a charge since the end of 2003.i haven't had that repaired yet so i have no idea what it will cost.3.my "service engine soon" light keeps coming on.i'm never sure if there is or isn't a problem.one day it's on, the next day it's off. I just don't understand why a vehicle that is only three years old can have so many issues.i have replaced the brakes once and already need to do so again.however, i am very upset about the intake manifold and air conditioner.an air conditioner shouldn't go out on a three year old car.that is just unacceptable.i still owe two more years on the car and am afraid of what will break next.i would like to be compensated for this default on a fairly new vehicle.i do want to say that i just loved my car when i got it, but i don't want to constantly be paying for major repairs on a vehicle that shouldn't require them.

At approximately 50,000 miles, the lower intake manifold gasket on my 2000 pontiac grand am gt had to be replaced. I had noticed the low coolant light coming on intermittently, and decided to get the coolant flushed and filled. When i brought my car into the local pontic dealership, i was informed the engine gasket needed to be replaced, which was close to an $800 repair. This was done in december of 2004. It is now april of 2005, and i am experiencing the same problem . After doing some research on several different sites, it appears that i am not the only one with this problem, as many owners of gm cars with the engine that pontiac used in the 2000 grand am gts are experiencing the same thing. The lim gasket was redesigned after gm noticed this recurring problem, and the newer one is being used to replace the older one. If it's become obvious that this is a design fault of gm, why am i the one who has to pay for the repair?

I have just found out that my intake manifold gasket must be replaced and it is going to cost over $800.i researched the problem to find out what i should pay and found out that many others are experiencing the same problem and that gm used a faulty part for the vehicle even after knowing that the part was faulty.i have an aftermarket warranty and it refuses to pay for any gaskets/seals.as a result, my heat in my vehicle does not work (it is amazingly cold in iowa in the winter).

I bought this car used in the november 2001.with in 31 days the brakes started squealing took in for service was told that the brakes were shot and need replaced.this cost me $86. I went back on the dealer where purchased and he paid the other half.when i bought the car the windshield washer fluid tank had a hole in and had to be replaced this was covered under warranty and was in the shop at the same time with the brakes.they were to order the new tank when they had the car in for brakes and didn't i had to go back to get it installed. There was rear end noise that they told me was the control arm in the back, which the dealership told me that they would replace and it was covered under warranty.there was front end noise that they told me was the control arm on the drivers side and that there was a bushing that needed greased - that was covered under warranty.the molding on the side drivers doors was been put back on in october of 2001 before i purchased the car - the in september of 2002 it started coming off again - when i tried to get it in to be repaired at the dealership that did the work they couldn't get it in before the one year warranty expired - so i super glued it.in march 2003 the front end noises have come back so bad that it sounds like a old bed spring and no mechanic can seem to figure out where the noise is coming from or what is causing it.when my car was in the shop for this one of the censors in the front drivers side went bad and cost me $489.the brakes where also shot and need rotors turned because the dealership that put the brakes on back in 2001 put brake pads on warped rotors.when it rains and you are driving it sounds like the back passenger door is opened or the window is down.6/30/03 the front end noise are still there - the passenger side reclining seat arm has broken off - the knob that turns the heat/air/defrost has broken off.i am the only person who drives this car.i still owe over 11,000.00 on this car.

My 2000 pontiac grand am has left me stranded about 100 times, i have had my car fixed 7 times for the security light problem under warranty but the problem has not been corrected.the car only starts when it wants to because of the pass lock system failure. There are 2 rear brake lights bulbs on the driver side and are specified to be the same, but they can not be.by putting in the same 3157 light bulb, and applying the brakes, it will short out the lamp base and starts melting the light bulb base. In the mean time the brake light on the rear drive side will not work.

I have a 2000 pontiac grand am and while driving at any speed i found the use of the turn signal either left or right were intermittent. I took the car to a dealer and had the problem verified by a mechanic at the dealership . I was informed that even though there had been a recall on this problem for my make and model that my vin was not included . I contacted gm and was told that there was in fact a recall with this problem ,reference gm recall#03043 and nhtsa campaign #03v327000 but my vin was not on the list and there was nothing else they would do for me . The dealer quoted me a total cost of repair of 120.00 even thought the same defect was repaired on similar cars same make and model and year as mine and cost was picked up by gm. This is a safety feature defect with the hazard warning switches.

Grinding noises coming from front end.took to dealer and was told it is a wheel on rim incompatibility.they will not change cause there is no recall on the parts.was told if i bought new tires and rims it would help.spent $1300 on tires and rims to still hear the noise.took it back for the dealer to say they cant help cause of the factory warranty being over and the company that help my extended warranty filed bankrupcy.

This question should be "tell us what happens".my directional levers and lighting to signal right or left does not work most of the time.the light goes on but it doesn't blink at all.i would say this is a problem 97% of the time.this may also happen with my hazard lights.i understand under nhtsa campaign number that she was a recall in 2003, but my car was never recalled under my vin number.this happens either when the car is in motion or when it is still.it happens on city streets, and highways and even in my driveway.this is definitely a safety issue.i have also had the flashers cleaned and the flasher relay replaced by my mechanic.

I have 2 problems. First is my hazard/turn signal switch, which causes my turn signals to work intermittently. I see on your website and various others that this problem involves a recall by gm, however when i spoke to them they tell me that it hasn't been recalled. There was nothing that led up to it, just started being a problem one day. I have not had it fixed yet, as i feel like it's gm's responsibility to fix it. My second problem is my manifold intake, which is causing my car to leak coolant into the engine and making my car overheat. I have seen that this has been a problem for thousands of owners and gm is doing nothing about it. I have spoken to them and they refuse to fix it. Their dealership wants to charge me $1400 to fix it, even though it is obviously a problem. Even though i had already had the problem diagnosed through another repair shop, they said they would not even consider fixing it unless i had it diagnosed through their dealer, which cost me $105 that i don't have. I am disabled, and on state disability and i feel like they completely scammed me, not to mention that now i have an inoperable car and have no way of getting to the doctor. Nothing led up to the problem, it leaks coolant constantly and now overheats all of the time, making it undrivable.

I am having the same problem as reported to the nhtsa defect investigation # ea02037 and nhtsa recall # 03v327. It just started this year and i called the dealer i bought the car (new) from and i was told it is not part of the recall because the vin # is not included in the report.

The turn signals and tail lights have a short in them.i asked a mechanic that works on gm products about it and he said that he has replaced numerous hazard light switches because that is was seems to be the problem.he told me how to check if that was my problem and sure enough that is what is wrong with mine.when i go to use my turn signals sometimes they fail, and when they fail so does my tail lights.when my turn signals fail if i press the hazard button in the center of my dash several times they will start working again.to me that is dangerous and i shouldn't have to do that.he said he has changed this part not only on grand am but on all of the gm cars that have the hazard switch in the center of the dash from years 1999-2001.

Lower set of back up lights built into bumper, filled up with dirt, water, and mud.this water gets trapped between lens and reflective housing, turning housing black and shorting out bulbs.

This problem isreoccuring and and has caused me to get ticketed for burned out brake lamps twice.also when i am drving i notice that people with the same carhave burned out lamps too.there are two bulbs to the actual brake light itself and they don't burn out at the same time, but, when they do burn out the plastic at the base of the bulb melts on to the contact renedering the bulb useless and also causes damage to the part listed in the report which also means the brake light is not funtional.another concern was the amount of heat given off by the bulbs are enough to burn someone badly, which also may be the cause of the base of the bulb melting.

1st & 2nd fan speeds on climate control are inoperable, hazard/signals work intermittently, intake manifold gasket devolped a leak resulting in antifreeze leaking into my engine oil which caused a $1000.00 repair, as well as both front bearings went resulting in a $1000.00 repair as well.this is on top of the 4 windows severly scratched and loose in their tracks, radio stopped working & brakes/rotors constantly need to be replaced due to warping.i found a few recalls on 2000 grand am's, but unfortunately they keep telling me that my vin# isn't one of the ones included in the recall???...i don't have the money to continue pouring into this "lemon"!

Vehicles turn signals are intermittent and inoperative at times. This is in all modes whether right, left, or hazards. There is a voluntary recall for my make of vehicle and year, but the actual manufactures date involved in the recall excludes my vehicle.i have spent a couple hundred dollars replacing the multipurpose switch in the steering column, but the problem persist. Dt: steering is going out on the vehicle. Vehicle is in the shop due to a recall on the hazard signal. Whenputting on the turn signal to go left or right the steering would sound like it makes awhistling noise. From underneath it sounds likeknocking or rattling sound.

I purchased the vehicle used, from a dealer in north little rock ark, we noticed the recall, dealer said just call pontiac they should honor it. Complaint received via e-mail. Hazard light switch is making very loud clicking noises. Sometimes the hazard switch fails tofunction, which is worse in cold temperature. This could result in a rear end collision. The hazard switch can only be bought at a gmc dealership which is priced between $42:00-$300:00.i have noticed a lot of complaints on this issue, and think pontiac should have a recall on the hazard switch.*tc

When turning only on drivers side the light doesn't blink like a bulb is burnt out i have replaced more bulbs in this car then all the other cars i have ever owned total. If i hit emergency flasher and turn it off it will work what's up with this i have also notice other grand am's on the road that are the same way is this a recall.

Turn signals work intermittently. This started about a year ago and now the hazard signal does it also. It seems to happen after i have driven several miles. I drive 55 miles one way to work and by the time i get close to my job they have stopped working. Also, i have never received any kind of notification on any recalls for this vehicle and i have read that there have been four total.

I own a 2000 pontiac grand am serecently, i had paid out of pocket to get my "hazard warning switch," replaced because the turn signals/hazard lamps become intermittent or inoperative. Nhtsa put out a recall on 08/28/03, recall #03v327000. I took my vehicle to a gm dealer in hawaii in an attempt to get the part replaced under recall.the dealership did not honor the recall request and stated that i must pay out of pocket.i then took my vehicle to an ase certified mechanic repair shop and had the needed repairs done.i paid $98.36 out of my pocket for the part and labor.on 4/18/07 i called gm (1-800-620-7668) to request reimbursement for what i paid out. Gm refused to pay.i am now seeking reimbursement for the monies i had to pay out.are you able to assist me with this problem?

The blinkers and hazard lights of this vehicle fail to work at times. I have almost been rearended a few times. They work intermittenly. I called the dealer because there is a recall and they said that my car isnt eligible. But it is a 2000 grand am, like the others being recalled, its got 115000 miles on it and it is a serious problem.

Turn signals are failing intermittently.they will work again if the hazard switch is pressed multiple times.i'm aware of a recall for this situation for my make and model car (recall 03v327000).however, pontiac tells me my car vin is outside the range of vin's recalled and that i will have to pay for the repair.given this is an obvious problem they are well aware of, i feel my car should be covered by the recall.

Signals not working/ grinding noises heard at any speed and when turning corners.mrthe brakes squeaked when they were applied, the left front strut was replaced, the steering assembly was replaced, the defroster was replaced.

The owner's manual says to remove a backplate to change the headlight bulb.the plate they refer to is welded to the car's frame.once you remove the only 2 screws that are back there (attempting to follow their written instructions) & try to slide the headlight out, it breaks the other areas that the bolts are bolted into in 1/2 & renders the highlight unattached to the car.the entire plastic piece from side to side in the front of the car must be replaced to repair those breaks.

Recurring brake problems with rotors /padsand turn signal failures.

My car was recalled for faulty blinkers. Which i wasn't having trouble with, but thought i might as well get them replaced to avoid trouble later. Unfortunately, the new replacement has given me trouble. Sometimes the blinkers come on all by them selves or when i do use the blinkers, sometimes it blinks at a very fast rate which i'm afraid it will appear as if the blinker isn't actually on. I can't tell from the inside. I have no idea when this started happening,just that it was shortly after the blinkers were replaced. The "approximate incident date" is a wild guess.

Because they did not have sufficient parts for the recall, they were postponing contacting consumers until the end of the first quarter of 2004. The recall states that if you are currently having a problem to go to your dealer and get it replaced. I did this because my turn signal was not working all the time and i just had a brand new baby in my family and did not want to get in an accident because i was not able to properly signal. After getting the part replaced, i had to pay for it and be out the money until gm "offically" issues the recall. I think this is a terrible policy which endagers motorists. If i had not seen the news on the nhtsa site about the recall, i would never had known to get it fixed right away. I believe gm should immediately refund the fee i paid for the part and labor because it was their negligence that caused me to replace it.

Pontiac hasa recall issued for over 600,000 pontiac grand ams for the hazard warning flasher and blinker signal.in august, i contacted pontiac customer service and they told me a recall notice would be issued for my vehicle but the parts were not ready yet and it would be a few months.i had to replace the hazard warning switch because my flashers and blinkers stopped working and the dealership made me pay for it because they said they had no info on the recall yet.now i am having the same problem with my vehicle again and not only does the dealership deny that there is a recall for my vehicle but pontiac customer service says there is no recall for my vehicle.they had no trouble finding the original recall notice but now they deny it exists.they have never sent me a recall notice, although they have sent a notice to my wife who also has a pontiac grand am of the same year as mine!how can they acknowledge a recall for a defective part on my car, that i have already had to replace once and now have to replace a second time,and then deny the recall exists 10 months later.i believe they are trying to get out of their responsibility to replace the defective part

Had the car for about one year. Bought used, no history of the car. Had to replace the fuel pump, fuel filter less then a year of purchase. Having this gas smell when the ac is on. With the phoenix weather there is not one day you can't live without an ac. The smell gets so bad that your clothes and hair smell when you get out of the car. Fuel pump failed abruptly causing motor to quit while underway, and subsequently complete loss of all power brakes and power steering.this happened at 65 mph in moderate traffic on an interstate.my daughter, driver at the time, had to maneuver the vehicle through two lanes of traffic and off the shoulder of the road without any power steering or brakes...a very dangerous situation.one that could have very easily caused a crash and serious injury or fatality.

While driving down the interstate at 65 miles per hour my car shut completely off on me.only by the grace of god was i able to coast over 2 lanes to the side of the road, avoiding having another car run straight into the back of my car.after taking the car to the dealership i was told that i needed to replace my fuel pump module.they stated that this has been happening quite a bit but that a recall has not been done on this part yet.now, 2 years later i am still having issues with my car now having a gasoline smell every winter because gas is leaking from somewhere and they cannot determine where.

The fuel gauge was misreading fuel level.gauge was showing gas in vehicle when there was none. I ran out of gas 3 or 4 times. I ended up replacing the fuel tank. The dealer explained the cause to me as the direct or indirect result of the ultimate failure of the fuel pump and system. I amdisappointed with this and all the other problems i had with this vehicle. Because of my experience with gm i probably would not purchase or recommend to anyone else to purchase a gm product. This 2000 grand am was purchased in jan of 2003 and and has been in the shop twice in 5 months for faulty fuel injectors.there are six fuel injectors and the mechanic said there is no way of knowing if or when the others may go out.it cost over $500 for each repair.this sounds like a problem with this type of automobile.the mechanic also said that he had just worked on two other grand ams with the same problem.one was brought in twice for fuel injectors and one three times.i read another complaint on this web site addressing the same issue with the same make and year car.there should be a factory recall as it seems this is a widespread problem.

Consumer complained about fuel guage oroblems,not been accuarate. Also, while driving vehicle died when the fuel guage indicator was still showing quater of a tank. Dealer was not contacted at the time of this phone call. Phthe fuel level sensor had to be replaced.

The fuel gauge system on my 2000 pontiac grand am, has repeatedly had the same problem.after initially purchasing the vehicle, after about a year, i noticed that my fuel gauge was reading that it had more fuel than i knew it should have.i took it to my dealer (this was prior to the recall) and informed them of the issue.they had not heard anything.they reset my computer system, and this seemed to work for a while.then i received the recall letter for the issue that i had told my dealership about.they replaced the sensor, and every thing seemed to be fine.then about a year after that, the same thing started to happen.they asked if i had run out of gas, i said no, because i had paid attention to the gauge and knew it was not registering correctly.they replaced the sensor again; this was about may of 2003.now the same thing is starting to happen again.my husband contacted the dealership and he was told they are no longer responsible for this, even though it is a continuing problem, but they will check into it.i feel this should have been corrected a long time ago.the replacement of the sensor seems to be a bandage, not a cure.

My fuel gauge hasn't worked for years. I have ran out of gas on a few occasions but now know to use my trip meter, so when i hit 200 miles i need to fill up soon.i also notice it just doesn't stick at a 1/4 of a tank it sometimes flips back and forth from full to empty to full back to empty.it just goes bezerk.it is the sensor and by now i thought there would be a recall but i guess that probably won't happen.it should for gm sake. Pontiac were always good vehicles not anymore when they won't back up what they sell.

(1)gas gauge doesn't work, shows still have gas at 1/4 to 1/2 tank full and is near empty or i run out.(2)run out of gas.had to call some one to bring me gas.(it was -10 degrees f)(3) nothing can't afford to get it fixed.

On the date below, i drove to work and parked. My gas gauge read just over 1/4 a tank. When it was time to go home, i got in my car and it wouldn't start. I called a friend and he said it could be out of gas. Luckily, there was a gas station close by, so i bought a gas container and gas. I put the gas in my car and the car started up fine. The gas gauge still read 1/4 a tank. This has also happened to me several times before and it gets really annoying. I will be driving and my gas tank reads 1/8 to 1/2 a tank and my car will die on me. The last time this happened was about a month ago in april 2004. I had to walk 4 miles round trip to get gas. I take real good care of my car as much as i can because i didn't extend my warranty due to lack of money. This happens right at the most inopportune times. I have not taken my car in to have this fixed because i know it will cost me about $500 and i just cannot afford that. I've actually had to replace several completely different parts on my car (sensors, resistors, switches) due to gm's poor engineering and i can't afford this current problem. It's ridiculous that out of all the constant problems that grand am owners have, gm can only send out a recall on a stupid hazard light switch relay. That's my 2 cents.

I purchased my vehicle in june of 2000.in august of the same year i was left on the side of the interstate because my gas gauge read 1/2 tank and was actually empty.i was towed into town and luckily my car was under warranty and repaired at no charge.i was told it was the fuel sender.since then it has happened five more times in the last four years.i'm astonished this problem has not been investigated more thoroughly and a recall engaged.something should be done about this.

2000 pontiac grand am, plastic connector used to attach cruise control to throttle-body broke and became lodged, resulting in the throttle being held open. After turning a corner and letting off the gas pedal the car continued to accelerate. I applied brake which partially slowed the car but not enough to stop. I was able to navigate through a red light at which point i had to put the car in neutral and turn the key off to coast out of the way of other motorist. After fighting to get the car stopped and steering into a parking lot i was able to quickly determine the cause. The plastic fitting used to connect the cruise control was wedged between the brace and throttle holding the butterfly 3/4 of the way open, which was roughly 5k rpm. After fighting with the throttle and plastic i was able to free it and tie the cable out of the way. I spoke with a gm dealership and found that the part # is 22618777. I understand if this was a fluke but wanted to give some information in case it happens to someone else. I know my experience could have been very bad but was lucky to avoid any collisions. I just hope the fact that there were no deaths or injuries that this matter is still taken seriously, my mother has the exact same car and i plan to inspect her assembly this weekend.

Water deflectors warped causing a puddle to form on back floor on passenger side. While driving down the road trunk pops open for no reason but only if it is raining. Windshield leaked causing water to leak down by hood release and under dash causing another puddle on floor. I should add dealer cannot find any reason for trunk to pop open although it has happened 4 times.

I was told by the dealer, that this did not apply to my 2000 pontiac grand am se, . Each bearing is $ 300- 400, but i have not had to replace in other bearings except the left rear. Could the above recall affect that wheel bearing, and how much of a coincidence that it just so happens to be the left rear wheel bearing on my car, could there have been more of a widespread problem with the left rear suspension of this vehicle? also when breaking at high speeds the abs light came on, the new left rear brake shoe cracked in half as a result of the left rear wheel bearing having issues.

The car loses it's power steering randomly when making any kind of turn. The dashboard lights come on and once the car is turned off and back on, it resumes working normally.

Transmission will lose one gear after the other, transmission has been replaced 4 times. At this time, it needs to be replaced a 5th time. Dealer stated there was no code given in vehicle that would explain what the problem occurred.

Rpms kept racing, and dealer said it was a defect in transmission. They corrected the problem.on january1, 2001 engine check light came on, and car started to pull toleft, and flipped 4 to 5 times.

Nhtsa recall 00-v-372-000; vehicle description:certain passenger vehicles equipped with manual trans axles (rpo m86) fail to comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 114, "theft protection."when a driver attempts to shift from 5th gear to reverse, a shift inhibitor causes the transmission to be mechanically in 4th gear even though the shift lever indicates reverse gear. Consumer has the same problem.

The transmission was completely rebuilt twice in 2001. The first time i don't know the date but the 2nd time was 12/01. On may 20,03i took it to sunrise pontiac in memphis because it was leaking transmission fluid. Even thou the transmission has been rebuilt twice they wouldn't honor the warranty and charged me 350.00 to fix the left transaxle seal which is where it was leaking. Nlm

Seatbelt sometimes comes unlatched when pressure applied to belt.

The left rear seat belt will lock intemittently (being used with a child restraining seat).if the seat or the belt is moved, it will unlock itself.the right rear seat belt will not lock.you can keep pulling on the belt and it will not lock down.the dealer said that this body style does not do that.the owners manual states that it does and that it must in order to put in a child restraining seat.i know that it used to do lock because i have owned the car since sept 1999 and have had training classes on how to install child restraining seats in correctly.now, with this problem, i do not feel that our son is safe in my car.i don't know when his seat belt will become lose - if we were to get in an accident - who knows what might happen.

I am experiencing repeated problems with the brake rotors.when traveling at highway speeds (above 50 mph), if the brakes are applied, the car, including the tires and steering wheel, vibrates/shakes back and forth.sometimes it shakes so much that it feels like control of the car is compromised.several auto mechanics have told me that the problem is definitely that the brake rotors wear out.the brake rotors have already been replaced twice (the first time by a pontiac dealership), and now need to be replaced a third time, even though they were replaced less than a year ago.

I have tried repeatedly to work with general motors regarding repetitive brake and rotor issues on my 2000 pontiac grand am....according to my research, there have been numerous complaints bearing resemblance to my issues and gm claims there are no problems.

We have replaced the brake pads and front rotors twice on our 2000 pontiac grand am se (64,000 mi) twice.we were experiencing grinding and noise from the brake system. At times the brakes will "stick" or "lock up" for a brief second when applying the brakes. The 1st pad and rotor replacement only lasted a year before the problems began again. After researching on the web and talking with dealerships, i have found this to be a very common complaint among grand am owners. There is something causing these brakes to wear out so quickly. The repairs are costly and if a person can not afford to replace the brakes every year or so... They may just drive the car with the defects. Faulty brakes can result in a crash.

And the repairman looked at it on monday.he advised me that he did not need to test drive it because the caliper was not locked up "now".dealer refuse to fix brakes under warranty but would install new brakes and rotor at my cost.i told dealer to "do nothing" i will pick auto up.when i got to dealer they informed me that they installed new pads at no cost because auto was unsafe to drive.dealer refused to give me old pads.the repair shop i originally took it to ken towery told me that when the caliper locks up it can cause the pads and rotor to go bad.and since he saw that the inside of the pad on the right front was only worn on the inside indicated that this is more than likely what happened. *nlm

A warping of the front rotors may cause the brakes to vibrate during breaking and cause the abs system failure indicator to go on.driver side door window: cable for the power window will bind up behind the pulley and make the window inoperational.in some cases the cable pulled off the pulley and caused the window to drop and smash into pieces.

Every 3000 miles approximately i have had to have the brakes and rotors on the front end replaced due to them warping.the dealrship garage keeps assuring me they are putting on an improved design by gmac and that it won't happen again.but just today when applying the brakes the noise and shaking restarted.

Brakes pulsate when slowing or stopping from a high rate of speed.rotors were turned at 7,000 miles and changed at another date.problem is occurring for the 3rd time now.dealership will not help me with the correction.i was told my warranty will only cover 1 rotor change, but the problem is still there and i believe pontiac should stand behind their product and correct the error.

The brakes, when wet, in the rain, will not stop the vehicle within a safe distance must lift butt off of the seat pushing on the brake to stop when wet, and even then antilocks wont come on, because there is not enough grip. This problem occurred when brand new, and cause me to hit a parking block after washing my car in the new 2001 year. I didn't not recognize the problem was that bad when wet untill rain of the new year pursued. The brakes had always been stiff (hard to use). While it has 28,000 miles on it now, the brakes when dry are a little better, pads are hardly worn at all, and when wet still will not stop the car..and even vibrates (not abs).

The other dealer told me that the front brakes are wearing because the back brakes are not adjusting right, so that dealer fix the back brakes at no charge to me.will here it is 2yrs and 6 months late i'm stilling having problems with my brakes.i feel i can not trust the pontiac dealers to fix my car.i feel that pontiac should fix this problem at no charge to me or recall this cars for braking problems.i can't keep replace my brake pads, rotors, and calipor on the car it is a very costly thing to do.i have called the pontiac customer service department and told them everything and they did nothing.i have resently emailed pontiac direct. I was driving on the freeway and my pontiac vehicle's abs brakes failed.there should have been sufficient time to stop.the brake went all the way to the floor and would not slow the car down at all. The car only had 15,000 miles on it and was recently checked out by the dealer.i almost crashed into the car in front of me because of congestion.luckily, there was a carpool lane open on the left driver's side.to avoid rear-ending the car in front of me i checked my side view mirror and saw a van approaching a little ways back. I quickly changed lanes and the van crashed into the rear end of my car.

I have had the brakes replaced under warranty because of pulsation when braking at high speeds. That was corrected but still having brake problems. The car has an increased stopping distance and the pedal feels too low to the ground. I have to push the brakes all the way down in order to stop. I don't believe that in a real emergency that the car could stop in time to avoid impact. I'm calling the delearship tomorrow to have fixed but i don't believe it will be covered under warranty.

Brakes failed on two separate occasions.the first failure occurred at apprx. 9,000 miles and the second occurred at approx. 25,000 miles.the dealer did a complete overhaul to the braking system at 10,000 miles however would not fix them free of charge on the second visit.the replacement parts were still under warranty but the dealer did not honor the warranty.being a loyal gm customer i expected a lot more from the dealer and gm, they should stand by their products, especially when they are substandard.there is no reasion that the brakes should have failed twice in less than 25,000 miles.i can't say anything positive about my experience with gm and bill rapp pontiac this time around and next time i'm in the market for a new car, gm will be off my wish list.

Vehicle accelerated, 6 times, applied brakes, but would not stop vehicle. Consumer has to shut off ignition. Took vehicle to dealer 6 times, replaced computer twice, could not remedy situation.

I found the first problem of vibration around 3000k and there was no forseable problem.around 6000k the shuttering began and the dealer said they were to shave the rotors and pads.around 9000k another shutter and the service manager said they should have replaced it in the first place. While driving, heard a loud noise which came from front end. Took vehicle todealer. To correct the noise problem, the dealer installed new rotors and brakes in the front and back. The noise still continued and the dealer replaced the rack and pinion. Next, the dealer replaced the front wheel bearings. The dealer also agreed to replace the tires with michelin brand.

I have had nothing but problems with my 2000 pontiac.the brakes have been replaced 3 times rotors have been replaced twice.my hub caps had to be replaced because they were all cracked.the buttons on my air conditioner/stereo control are stripped.screws fall out by the dash, the truck is uneven, when it is closed 1 side is higher than the other, there's a gap, my windshield wiper hose is busted it leaks.seat belt covers broke off. I purchased a new car specifically so i wouldn't have to deal with costly repairs for a number of years. Dealer says rotors have been re-designed and should be better. So far that has not proved to be the case. Vehicle had only 23000 miles on it of which e16000 miles was highway. Brakes wore out prematurely and dealer refuses to list this as a warranty item. Nhtsa files show this to be an issue with othe grand ams of the same year. This should be a safety issue, re premature wear out, rotor damage, noisy front brakes, and vibration while stopping. I have had my front rotors replaced after only 9 months (completely rusted) and they still grind and rust from the warped hubs. A relative of mine who is a certified gm mechanic said both the grand am & alero both have the warping problem with the hub & rotors and gm is aware of it but will not issue a recall or notice of defect.without replacement excessive rusting will cause issues with your breaks and possibly complete damage to the hub.

When going around a roundabout in city the steering made loud popping noise then failed to steer almost causing head on collision. The welds broke that hold the steering rack to frame. Infantile failure of the power steering pump.

On making a left turn the steering wheel tightened and i lost control of my vehicle as it was entering on-coming traffic. My vehicle lost all functionality with the power steering assembly.

During routine inspection a leak was found andreplaced by dealer. Vehicle was at dealership in may, rack and pinion steering was loose. Itwas tightened by dealer. Rack and pinion steeringto be replaced at this time.

I was hearing a ratcheting noise coming from gear box/rack and pinion area whenever i made a turn. Sunday night, i was making a left hand turn, i heard the ratcheting sound, turned the wheel a little more to left, heard a pop, then lost control of the car. The car slide sideways into the curb where it rested, shattered spindle, axle, bent rim until a tow truck towed the car to the dealer. The dealer says damage was caused from curb, and call my insurance company, but the system failed before the car slid into the curb. My wife, daughter and i heard this noise before.

We purchased a new 2000 pontiac grand am gt from a dealer in florida, the car had 7miles on it when we bought it. From the first day we had problems with the steering, it pulled to the right always. The dealer attemted to fix the car on several occasions, finally they told us the steering rack was defective. The car had less than 10,000 miles on it, the car would make noise turning the wheel to the left or right, anda bump could be felt coming from the front of the car by turning the wheel while at low speeds. The steering rack went bad again just before 50,000 miles and was once again replaced under warranty, the steering rack that was replaced then has went bad again, around 85,000 miles. It does the exact same thing the first two did, the car is no longer under warranty and pontiac wants over 1,100.00 dollars to fix the problem. This will make the fourth steering rack that we have had to have installed, we feel that pontiac knows that this is an ongoing problem. They have not addressed the problem in our opinion like they should have in the first place. The tires are very weak and are not very "durable." from the experience i've had, i don't feel safe with the tires and wheelson my car. Every time i'm driving somewhere and encounter everyday road conditions, i'm scared to find a flat, popped tire; or blowout.i've had the exterior black lining fixed 2 times and i'm not happy it is happening again! the rear windshield weather strip is separating. The deflector in the door was replaced due to water leak. The consumer stated that the vehicle was in the shop three time for the same problem but the problem is still existing.

When it rains the side door area seems to leak water onto back passenger side carpeting.replacing seals and resetting door doesn't seem to be working.hopefully floorboard is not rotting.

Right suspension squawk / squeak while driving in normal conditions, right front passenger side door glass shattered behind mirror while driving with no apparent debris striking car, right front door not flushed, leaving gap.

Trunk lid will open on its own, consumer has had to clean out the rainwater because of it opening on its own, on one occasion the lid opened when the glove box had been opened, trunk lid has also opened with no occupants in or around vehicle.

In pontiac grand am's, there have been many drivers that have had problems with water leaks. These waters leaks flood the car compartment and can leave 1-4 inches of water in the car. On 5/15/08 @ 4:30 p.m., our daughter was driving our 2000 pontiac grand am, on i-40 west in durham cty, nc.traveling approx. 70 miles per hr, she remembers only a sudden pull to the left on the steering wheel.losing control, she swerved 150 ft. Before crashing into the concrete wall barrier.continuing another 50 ft. The car flipped upside down on the left shoulder.no other vehicles were involved.a witness traveling behind our car reported that the car just started to "fishtail".the tires were inspected by the officer at the crash, and later by my husband and the insurance examiner, and were found to be intact, fully inflated and without excessive wear.a search on the national highway traffic safety administration website brought to our attention a recall in certain models of the 2000 grand am involving the rear suspension trail arm to the left rear knuckle bolt.upon reporting this information to state farm insurance, the adjuster included this component in his findings.he reported that nothing "appeared" out of place. A single snapshot of the rear suspension was submittedin support of his findings.mr. Missing bolt in rear suspension causing loss of control of vehicle causing rollover and console opening up during rollover.*la

Pontiac grand am 2000, loss of control and rollover. The consumer stated while driving, suddenly the rear of the vehicle felt loose and the vehicle swerved which caused him to lose control. Upon inspection of the vehicle, it was found that the left rear trailing arms were not attached to the left rear knuckle. Inspection of the bolts that attached the trailing arms to the knuckle showed that the end of the bolt was broken.

While drivingat 65 mphdriver lost control of the vehicle, causing itto roll over. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership; mechanic determined that a bolt from the rear sway bar was missing.

Consumer states at very slow speeds just before stopping, there was a scraping/rubbing sound that would come from the front end, new front disk brake pads were installed along with new rotors, however this did not remedy the problem, the dealer stated that the vehicle was experiencing incompatibility between the standard equipment aluminum sport wheels and the original goodyear eagle rs-a tires, p225/50r16, dealer informed consumer that this was a tire problem and that a new set of tires should remedy the problem.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with the tire.also stated that has called the dealer and dealer stated that there is a problem with the tire separating the rim wich a causes a robbing sound wich it will make it a difective tire. Goodyear eagle. Wich is original equipment.mr

Pass lock system on my 2000 grand am.security light comes on and car will not start for 10 minutes. Problem is getting worse.

When driving my vehicle it will constantly die while driving down the road and i'm unsure of what the problem is and it's starting to cause very many issues and possibly leading to a very dangerous situation. We one day came out to our car to start it and get ready to leave for the day and we had no hazards our blinkers. They do not work at all. So we checked the fuses and bulbs and stuff and they are all fine. The blinkers and hazards don't even work on the inside.

2000 grand am gt1 with 36,127 miles; a/c blower started making a loud vibrating noise on speeds 4 & 5; blower then went out on speeds 1,2,3, and max.diagnosed at dealer and had to replace both blower motor and blower resistor at cost of $229.service manager indicated that blower motor had a bearing fault which could start a fire.

Hi i've been having some starting issues withmy 2000 grand am gt. Sometimes i want to start it and it just doesn't even crank. I took it to a auto parts store to scan it and told me everything was "ok". Today i took it to a shop and said it's the bcm that is reading some error code. Is there some way you guys could help me out???

While driving vehicle suddenly accelerated uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle by pumping the brakes. Vehicle stopped, andthen stalled.consumer was unable to restart vehicle, andvehiclewas towed to the dealer for inspection.but,mechanic was unable toduplicate the problem.

Vehicle accelerated, 6 times, applied brakes, but would not stop vehicle. Consumer has to shut off ignition. Took vehicle to dealer 6 times, replaced computer twice, could not remedy situation.

Rpms kept racing, and dealer said it was a defect in transmission. They corrected the problem.on january1, 2001 engine check light came on, and car started to pull toleft, and flipped 4 to 5 times.

Vehicle experiences sudden acceleration and has almost been the cause of 2 accidents, dealer replaced the computer, however this did not remedy the problem.

Cruise control is inoperable at times.

Dealer still has not fixed throttle prob. Going back for 4th time. Dealer still said- it's safe to drive with the gas pedal sticking at high speeds or even low speed- it sticks period.

My problem started summer of 2008,i was driving on highway12 traveling 55mph. I felt as if my car was lifting itself off the ground several mins later i heard a loud boom. And was slightly blinded by the sunlight. I thought i was hit by another car. But it was my sunroof that came off. It has been well overa year i still have not been able to have sunroof repaired. Most repair shops refer me to the pontiac dealer as they have never heard of a sunroof coming off unless defected. I called the pontiac dealer in stockton, ca twice each time i was told sunroofs fly off all the time, i could take it to any repair shop of my choice or see if insurance will cover repairs. I asked what shops they used or recommend each time agents could not recall anything. I called my insurance they too have never heard of this, since not from an accident or natural disaster i would be responsible for cost of repairs. I have two small children who i transport in vehicle driving without a sunroof was very stressful and not safe for the health of my children nor myself. After the run around, trying to tape down exposed area to no avail, lost of hearing. I decided to go to taps, there, they were able to cut a piece of hard plastic to cover temporarily. I feel as a consumer i have been given the run around and i 'm at a lost for where i can take my car locally to have sunroof repaired permanently. My second issue is with my ignition locks up on me and will not let me drive.a security light that is lit up as well, as i do not have a security system, i called dealer i was told it may have to do with my key remote, i stated i don't have key, i was then told it may be i copied keys and the copy is not being read by car. I informed them i use the original key for car i was given when i purchased car. The dealer did not know why and referred me to have car checked. I had maintenance done, each shop could not find anything out of the ordinary for the problem. I'm disappointed and frustrated.

Resistor which controls ventilation into car interior burned out.this was already replaced by the dealer once under warranty.dt

The fan only works in 3,4 and 5 settings. 1 & 2 do not work. I see this is getting to be a common problem.

The poor enginering of window clips. Being plasic break when cold. Causing windows to fall down while driving. Both windows had same problem. According to parts dealers this happens often to this year car.

My driver's side power window broke when my car was under warranty, within the first year. I tried to roll it down one day and it started making cracking and breaking noises then it wouldn't go up. It was the motor/regulator. A year/year and a half later, the passenger side window did the exact same thing. I had to pay to have that fixed, it was $400+. Same thing, motor/regulator. I hardly used my windows after my first incident. I was afraid they would break again. Only used in emergencies. 6 months ago, i took my car to the dealer to have an oil change and they rolled down my driver's side window and couldn't get it to go back up. Same thing, regulator/motor. They refused to pay for it. They only offered me a free oil change. This hasn't been fixed. I tried to address the issue with pontiac since it was the third time i had a window break on my car. This was the second time on the driver's side window. Today i heard a strange noise coming from outside so i rolled my only working window (passenger side) down while i was driving and it started making horrible noises and i could hear parts breaking and falling inside the door. The window will not go back up. This is the fourth time my windows have broke. Ever since the first time, i have been hesitant to use them (except in emergencies) because i fear they will break again. I called pontiac today to voice my frustration. 4 times in 5 years in ridiculous especially when it's the same exact thing over and over again. I haven't had the 3rd and 4th time fixed because it will be at my expense and it will probably just break again. I have used my windows (since their first repairs) maybe a total of 10 times. When i called pontiac today they talked to the dealer and the dealer offered to knock $75 off on each window. They quoted me a price of $430/each minus a $75 discount on parts, so $355 for each window. I'll have to pay over $700 to have my windows repaired for the second time each.

I own a pontiac2000 grand am se power windows. It started with drivers side window. Plastic piece that holds window up crumpled up and window fell through. Had it repaired replaced plastic piece. Did not work. This is 4/2009 all the windows have done the same thing. 300.00 dollars to replace each window replacement motor. I have a 4 door.

Dt:consumer stated that within the last four months three of the windowsbroke.they broke while rolling up, down or being up. Consumer contacted pontiac, and they stated that because there was no recall they would not do anything.there wasa plastic piece in the window that guided the wire, that was the piece that broke.

The power window regulators in my 2 door 2000 pontiac grand am. Continue to fail. I have replaced four of the regulators since i have bought the car in 2003. These window regulators cost $112.00 every time they fail.depending on how and when, these window regulators fail there is a possibility of the glass falling into the door and breaking the glass. When the first one failed, i had to replace the window glass, in return made an additional cost of $120.00. I have spoken with other local owners and they all have had the same troubles with these window regulators. I feel that this issue should be addressed and solved with a redesign of the window regulator system at the cost of general motors.

Driver window would not work for 1 year then it started working and worked for 4 months and is not working again.i know 4 other people that have the same car and the same problem with their car.

After moving to tucson in august of 2003, my power windows began falling out of their tracks one by one.i currently have one window left that actually stays up without a door stop and one that i can't get out of the door frame because i can't get the door apart.the front drivers side window is down in the door.the one window that is still in the track is on its last leg.it's making the same sounds the drivers side did before it just fell down into the door.i have several co-workers who also have grand ams and are having the exact same problems.apparently gm used a plastic clip to hold the windows in place and they may have melted in the heat.the dealership wants to charge me $300 per window, but i believe it is a manufacturing defect that should be paid for by gm.

While driving i push the button to lower the driver side electrical window, i heard a popping sound and the glass window do not roll back. Took off door panel and motor does not work, and pieces that hold glass on track broke off.

Power window regulators failed because of substandard plastic bracket that breaks and causes the motor to seize.because of this failure, i cannot roll down any of my windows.i live in the middle of the desert and like to have my windows down.the dealership quoted me $250.00 for each window plus the cost of labor and was told that it would take 2 weeks for the parts and then they would have my car for approx 3 days.i asked about a rental and they said that i would have to pay out of pocket for it if i wanted one.i have researched this and found upwards of 40 some odd complaints on different web sites pertaining to 1998-2004 models with this same issue.i have found after market parts to repair them myself and it will still cost me $400.00 because i have to replace the entire power window regulator and motor for each door.my brother has a 2001 model with the same problem.

My driver's side window fell down inside the door after about 2 months of making a strange sound everytime i operated it.the plastic clips that hold it in place had broken.the entire regulator assembly has to be purchased to repair this problem.mechanic found 3 other sets of broken plastic clips inside the door from 3 previous repairs.i bought the 2000 grand am se in 2001 with only 20,000 miles.now at 53,000 miles this is the 4th time the driver's side window assembly has been replaced.the repair cost me 423.00, and i was told that it was faulty engineering and would probably have to be replaced every year or two!also, the front brake drums became warped recently and had to be fixed.as well as engine plugs and another engine component.

Power window cable bound up in gear in motor box, causing the guides for window to break and piece attached to window to break, called dealer, they said we would have to buy a $ 500.00 window just to get the piece that attaches to the window and complete window cable assemble.

After having to get the wheels bearings replaced in my front wheels, i started hearing a knocking/clicking noise coming from the wheels.i took it back to the same place and they replaced the bearings again, but the noise was still there.the third and fourth time i took it there they replaced cv joints and front controls arms.the noise was still there. I gave up on that garage.i took it to a second place where they pretty much took apart everything under the front end of my car.four months later i still hear the clicking, and i think this current problem is related.driving down the highway last week the abs, service vehicle soon, and traction off light all came on.took it to a repair shop and they have no idea what is wrong (no codes).after i start my car, the first few times i brake, it makes a clanking noise and the brakes lose all pressure for a few seconds.after the warning lights come on the brakes work fine.car is at dealer now.
