Air bags deployed after there was a crash on july 28, 2000 and the air bags deployed 18 hours after the crash on july 29 2000

1) firewall body seam leaks water into passenger compartment due to rust through. Fills floors beneath carpets with water. Causes air bag control module (sdm) under passenger's seat to fail due to moisture. Activates "air bar" dash light. Gm has issued a letter related to "flood" cars. It goes beyond floods!!!! this is a defective design & build problem.2) water enters every time it rains. The air bag control module (sdm) located under the passenger seat (stupid design) has failed due to moisture under the carpeting. "air bag" light is triggered and gm warns that air bag(s) could deploy without warning!!!3) i have removed the 10a air bag fuse and disconnected both air bags by unplugging wires to the inflators.gm says the air bag control module (sdm) needs to be replaced at my expense. No thank-you, gm should cover replacement and firewall repairs to prevent recurrence, period. This is the 2nd case of firewall water leakage i have seen on the gm "n" bodied cars. The other was an olds achieva with the exact same problem. I have pictures of the rust out areas from both vehicles. Gm should be made to recall & repair these cars - free of charge to the owners.

Driver side airbag malfunctioned in 97 grand am traveling at approx. 5mph no impact or accident occurred. Airbag just deployed resulting in whiplash, cervical spine curvature, severe headaches, dizziness, short term memory loss, 2 sprained fingers, ringing in left ear, broken 1ct engagement ring, physical therapy.*nlm

Weather conditions - snowing, hard packed snow. When driving, the vehicle pulled off to the right. I turned to turn the wheel to the left to gain control, and the vehicle caught some ice, causing the vehicle to spin and lose control. It rolled over on the highway and came back onto its wheels into the ditch. The vehicle then collided with a tree. The steering wheel hit me in the chest with the sudden stop. Neither air bag deployed during the crash and was i believe a manufacturer's defect. No manufacturer representative contacted me at any time since the accident.

Consumer was involved ina 35 mph frontal collision in which thedriver's and passenger's air bags did not deploydueto the vehicle stalling.also, the seat belts did not retract.please give any furtherdetails.dup of827073.

My son's grand am driver's side airbag deployed after the car was driven through a puddle hiding a pot hole.he sustained burns on his right arm and had to stop the car and exit in order to stop coughing from the airbag powder.pontiac customer service was contacted, informed about the incident, digital pictures taken by the repairing pontiac dealer were inspected and, based on paint flaking from the underside of the bumper cover and a dent in the crossmember, they concluded this damage caused the airbag to deploy.however, the service manager to the repairing dealer was very skeptical of this conclusion since this kind of damage should not deploy the airbag and, based on the design of this car, both front airbags should have deployed.further, there have been complaints lodged against this vehicle for the same situation (nhsta web site) and gm of canada has issued a recall for improper airbag deployment.i believe gm is reponsible for payment of the repairs to this vehicle because this is clearly a safety-related defect.

Air bag equipment inadvertently deployed.*mrwhile driving down the highway, both of passenger sideair bags exploded with no apparent reason. As result the dash was completely tornapart, the plastic molding of the cd player had blown off, the driver side door appeared to be sprung, but there was no accident to have cause this explosion and damage. The dealership agreed to fix the air bags and sensors, but nothing more. The consumer is requesting that the vehicle be returned to him in the same state it was before the air bag explosion occured. Please assist in resolvingmatters.

The current and failure mileages were approximately 189,000.updated 02/01/118 ljthe consumer and her passenger were injured due to the deployment of the airbags. Updated 03/18/11

Consumer states air bags deployed without a crash or collision.consumer's insurance company will not pay for the damages incurred to vehicle because this is a factory defect.consumer has a police report and photos taken on the damaged vehicle and the minor scrapes and burns sustained.consumer took vehicle to dealership who refused to inspect the vehicle and advised to contact manufacturer.after failing to inspect damaged vehicle, manufacturer concluded that due to the year, model and mileage of the vehcle, that it was not the manufacturer's responsibility to fix the damages.consumer feels this is unjust and unfair because there is no relevance as to how old or how many miles it had on the vehicle.

While drivingvehicle at 20mph driver's side and passenger's side airbags deployed without reason or warning. Dealer has seen vehicle.

At 45 mph swerved to avoid hitting a deer, went into ditch, androlled over.upon impact, airbags did not deploy.

I hit a deer at 50-55 mph, air bag sensors indicated deployment, didn't deploy

While driving 25-35 mph the consumer's son drove through what was thought to be a puddle, but was actually a pot hole.the drivers side air bag deployed causing abrasions on the driver's arms. The manufacturer and dealer were informed.the dealer found no cause for the air bag deployment.*nlm

The contact owns a 1997 pontiac grand am.in rainy weather conditions, the rear of the vehicle became completely saturated with water.two years later, the contact received a notice advising consumers that the air bag control module could fail and allow water to enter the vehicle, causing unexpected air bag deployment and flooding.the manufacturer stated that the letter was for informational purposes only and that they would not assume any financial responsibility for the costly repairs.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 110,000.

Air bag control module became saturated by water causing it to fail. I replaced it at my own expense but i now understand this problem is known by gm.*la

Driver side and passenger side airbags deployed incidentally. There was no crash or collision.

I have had several problems with my 1997 grand am gt since purchasing it. I have replaced the ignition switch three times in one year, the service costs are $900.00 in total. I can't understand how the same thing keeps breaking every 3 months. My windows get stuck and don't want to roll up, it has power windows.i was rear ended in 2003, but other than that, no damage done to my car.what can i do? just keep replacing ignition switches every 3 months? i have gotten written up at work for my car not starting. I do not have triple a.

The contact owns a 1997 pontiac grand am.while driving 30-35 mph, the vehicle shut off and on three different times.the windows would not roll up and down properly unless controlled by the driver's side control swtich.the fog lights do not work as well and the fuses are charred.the vehicle has not yet been taken to the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 128,728.

Defect within windshield wiper is causing the windshield wiper to act in anerraticmanner, and at times becoming inoperative. Dealer has replaced wiper switch and motor twice and computer chip within board, but defect is still occurring. This is an intermittent problem.left rear window motor failed, 1150 miles later the window switch failed.radio and clock light fail, dealer checked wiring and fuses.left front shoulder belt/retractor belt button damaged, dealer replaced seatbelt.

The ignition on this college students 97 pontiac grand am randomly defaults. It will get stuck in on or off position. Car sometimes continues running. Keyes will lock in the ignition and can not be removed. Lights remain on while keys are stuck in ignition. Ignition gets warm.

Consumer states that the recall item has been installed but still experiencing the same problem with key, the key continually stuck off and on as the vehicle shut down, recall campaign # 02v070000. Also, the alternator went out twice while driving and once in the yard, the battery has been replaced twice.*yd

When a turn was made, the steering wheel produced a loud rubbing noise. Dealer notified.there were high idle problems.the interior lights and the power locks were replaced.the check engine light had come on and the vehicle had started to run rough, the alternator light had come on and the alternator was replaced. The drivers side seat belt did not retract and was replaced, the lower front control arm was replaced, the blower motor was replaced, the compressor was replaced, when starting the engine cold, there was a knocking sound on the right side until the vehicle was warm ,then the noise would go away, surging would also occur and would worsen when the engine was warmed, the volume on the radio was erratic(had gone up whentrying to turn down), the sensor throttle position shorted and was intermittent, the valve air control was replaced, and the fuel filter was replaced. *scc

Vehicle has been taken to dealer 17 times for electrical problems.horn would stop working, ets and engine lights came on.radio was very hot to touch. Dealer has replacedradio 6 times, and motor of driver and front passenger power windows 6 times. Consumer felt electrical systemwas defective.

Sept. 2005 my 1997 pontiac grand am wouldn't start. The steering wheel was completely locked.couldn't get the key into the switch, tried to shake steering wheel and tried banging on the switch and tried forcing the key in, but nothing worked.had to take cover off under the steering wheel and push a bottomthat i found and it unlocked, then it started.even the dash light stopped working.been driving with no dash light for a while.it started doing it again, but his time the button under the steering wheel wouldn't work. Had to put a toggle switch in, to even start. I turned the key on pushed the toggle switch and it started. That lasted till 6-7-06. That day i turned on the switch and it sounded like the starter was hung.now my power windows wont work, the power door locks still work.found recall online, the code number is 02008b, it says the engine fails to start when the driver holds the key in the start position for a period, high current flows through the ignition switch, and sometimes produces heat to melt internal switch parts. Towed car to pontiac dealer 6-22-06 thinking maybe the recall would fix my problem. I told him to do a diagnostic test on it and it came back the ignition lock cylinder is bad. Then he told me the price and i said, i cant afford that. He said, that it had to be fixed before he could fix the recall. They wanted $222.86 for the part and $275.88 for labor, $7.27 for misc. $14.58 for taxes then he changed it $20.00 for misc. Totaling to $533.32 to fix the cylinder. I told him i found recalls online and even copied them and brought it to him.but he said, that he's got to go by what he has on his recall from gm. I saying if its not on his recall then it should be. This should be a recall on the ignition lock cylinder. So i had it towed to another place that would put the ignition lock cylinder in for $239 including parts and labor.

Electrical defect keeps shortening out alternator / power mirror motors and headlights. Consumer has replaced 5 alternators within 5 years and 9 months. Cause is unknown.

The theft warning system keeps the ignition switch from engaging.the car will not start unless the key is in the "on" position for fifteen minutes and resets the system.

I cannot drive car with out speedometer. There was a service bulletin #66-83-04a i feelthe dealer should repair this at there cost. It is not safe driving it without being able to see speed.the dealer says it cost 450.00 the vss is working fine. I buy a lot of cars.

Rear brakes bind during normal stop and go traffic.upon accelleration the rear of the vehicle squeals and 1 or 2 loud bangs are heard as the brakes release. Dealer was unable to duplicate and unable to detect any brake problems.vehicles alternator failed without any teltale warning signs, stranding the consumer.60 days later the battery dies.engine used to rev to about 1500 rpm while vehicle was stopped and in gear.replacement of 02 sensor cured problem.other minor problems include power door lock bumper failure (repaired) and poor design of the driver's sun visor.(it moves the rear-view mirror) when moving visor from windshield to side window.consumer has already replaced visoronce due to cracks at mounting screws.

Ac/delco battery and alternator failed.

When the battery and alternature failed the car suddenly accellerated at full throttle, systems began to alarm one at a time first the abs then the ets, ect locking up the brakes kept the car from moving foward when the alternator failed the engin finaly stopped. It would appear that when the battery failed the alternator was unable to keep up with the load as the voltage dropped systems begain to become unreliable and either the computer or cruise control caused the throttle to accellerate. A voltage threshold lockout is needed so that when power falls below the level where a system can no longer operate safely the system shuts down.

Consumer received recall 02v070000 forignition switch.vehicle would not start one evening.consumer took car to dealer for recall remedy.dealer stated thatignition cylinder and battery needed to be replaced, and problem was not with ignition switch.consumer believesproblem was with switch, but dealer would not install relay to correct recall first.dealerwas requesting payment for replacement of cylinder and battery.

While attempting to start the car a "clicking" sound occurred and the car would not start. The battery was replaced, and all was well for a week. Then, the abs light came on while driving. Also, all the warning lights came on, the gauges flashed back and forth ,and the car stopped.would not restart unlesswas set for several minutes. When it started the same incidents repeated.warning lights would often come on and off without there being anything wrong with the system that the lights were indicating. Once the car was pulled to a stopping location it would not turn completely off , and the key would get stuck in the ignition. These problems persisted for 2 days until it completely stopped.

The consumer received a recall notice for ignition lock binding. Several dealers were unable to correct the defective recall part. The consumer has spent over thousands of dollars to correct this problem. Battery indicator lamp was flashing.

This problem was reported accurately by another person 0diid 726109/we just purchased a battery to correct the problem, which it did for about 100 miles, then it was ditto, but would like an email as to what the person odiid 726109 found to be the problem.my husband is a master mechanic.

Alternator gone after 2 months of ownership/intake/manifold as stated/power windows defective/air conditioner went out in the middle of the summer - have had numerous problems in only 1 year of ownership!

Abs: steering groans after hard braking or tight high/low-speed turns/warning light comes on; alternator: not charging-replaced twice; thermostat replaced twice

However., dealer can't determine the cause ofproblems.

Electrical system shortened the alternator causing the low battery to illuminate, lights to become dim and vehicle to stall out.manufacturer notified.

Started vehicleand backed out of driveway. Whiletravelingapproximately 500 feet, vehiclesuddenly stalled. Was able to get it started, and took it to the dealer. Dealer indicated that alternator bearing was bad andreplaced it. However, vehicle stalled againon01-sep-99/11-oct-99 and 13-oct-99.

Ac/delco battery and alternator failed.

Numerous complaints regarding a 1997 pontiac grand am for repairs/ replacements of parts.door windows do not function, motor has had to be replaced by former owner, we have repaired motors on door windows several times on our own, windows would not go up and down at all, cost to repair at mechanics was over 400 and was done by first owner at least once.car service engine light comes on, had to replace entire computer system and now same problem is happening again, car idles horribly, sounds like it will be blowing up, and check engine light comes on. Prior to the replacement of the computercar frequently stalled out while driving in mid turn or while going forward, and car frequently was difficult to start, eventually needing to be towed to a repair facility who had to replace entire computer.car has wheel bearings that make a lot of noise, sounds like wheel is going to fall off.car has accelerated all on its own without the driver stepping on gas pedal or doing anything at all with accelerator, car randomly decides by itself to lunge forward and try to drive itself. This stopped briefly after the computer was replaced and is now happening again.

Took vehicle to murphy motors, dealership here in my home town. Took to them due to factmy heat gauge kept rising and i didn't want to runcar hot ;went to find out what was wrong. Technician stated that he put the car on the code machine and ran it. Said code popped up transmission. I didn't take car in for transmission.they refused to fix overheat problem. Saidwould have to pay $2,500.00 to replace transmission. Picked up car tookto clifford vine garage. He looked at car and immediately told me the radiator was pouring water out of it.he replacedradiator and cooling fan. He put car on code machine after repairing those two items and did not see a code for transmission.after that alternator went out, and two days later, my computer and fuel injectors went out.murphy motors ran car checking transmission no telling how long and probably ranwithout water since radiator was pouring it out. They didn't mention problem with radiator at all, just transmission codes. I feel they damaged car while running it in their shop looking for more money to get off me, like $2,500.00 for a transmission that has nothing wrong with it.this car was a lemon from the first day i got it. I've had coil housing replaced numerous times by murphy motors and by john hays pontiac-hope ar 71801 when i broke down.car has been towed in more times for coil housing.gm needs this car drove right up their backside for the problems it has caused and continues to cause me.i currently have a $750.00 outstanding shop bill to clifford vines garage in el dorado, ar 71730 for the last 3 times it was towed to his shop for the radiator, cooling fan, alternator, fuel injectors, and computer.i'll never buy another pontiac again, that's for sure.

Seven alternators have been replaced invehicle within four years by a repair shop. Dealer contacted.

I have had multiple problems from this car and, gm does not want to help. I was sent out of the dealer ship with no horn for three days. Dealers are now smart enough to work around the lemon law in wording repair orders. I think with all the motor problems and, safety issues maybe an investigation should be done before a car stalls and someone gets killed.

While driving vehicle and for no apparent reason vehicle would stall; taken to dealer several times; attributes stalling to another problem,2nd time to a different problem and third time replaced fuel pump injector, problem still exists.

In august 2002, we received a recall notice from pontiac saying the ignition circuit thermal events on our pontiac was a problem which could cause spearks or a fire and we should take the vehicle to our local dealer.we took the vehicle to wyatt-johnson, our local dealer and they replaced the ignition switch assembly--or at least that is the part that they said were covered by the recall.just prior to taking the car into the shop for the recall notice repairs, my wife noticed that when she stopped at a local store, the ignition would not turn off and she saw sparks coming from the steering column.we hoped that the recall repairs would fix the problem since the mechanic at wyatt-johnson said it should.however, after the recall repairs were made, my wife again experienced problems with the ignition--it wouldn't stop running after stopping--and she couldn't seem to remove the key from the ignition.and, again she saw sparks from the ignition.my wife took the car to an independent automotive dealer--our local napa garage and they explained that the problem was in the ignition lock cylinder which needs to be replaced.the napa mechanic showed my wife a pontiac tenical bulletin which clearly states that the ignition switch assembly was included in the previous recall and according to the napa mechanic, the gmac dealer should have replaced the part.he said the recall notice number was 97038.we again contacted wyatt-johnson and they again said that they had made the recall repairs and there was nothing wrong with the car.they refused to exam the automobile again without charging for a diagnostic exam of the vehcile.the napa mechanic said it will cost about $400 to make the necessary repairs to the car.yesterday, i contacted a pontic representative at the toll free number (800) 762-2737 and they gave me a file number 1-38785208.the lady told me to take it back to the dealership for another diagnostic screening and if they find a problem. The key gets stuck in the ignition and auxillary lights remain on. The locksmith attempts to fix it and i have to keep having him come out; looks like a replacement core is needed, thee is not a cheap way outof this. The bake pads wear down very quickly.it seems that a bolt on the caliper is not even with the opposite bolt, it's very slight but it's the same on both calipers and seems to cause pads to wear unevenly and often.it is probably cheaper for gm to have cosumers replace pads and rotors often than to retool the machinery to fix all those bolts.

The key gets stuck in the ignition in the auxiliary position.the car has to be started and turned off many times until the key will finally move to the correct position to be removed from the ignition.

The consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as mentioned innhtsa recall 02v70000. If the engine fails to start and the driver holds the key in the star position for an extended period, high current flows through the ignition switch, and sometimes produces enough heat to melt internal switch parts. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.the ignition locked. *sc

The consumer received a recall notice for ignition lock binding. Several dealers were unable to correct the defective recall part. The consumer has spent over thousands of dollars to correct this problem. Battery indicator lamp was flashing.

I have had one problem after another with this vehical and there are others with the same style car that are having the exact same problems.this needs to be looked into seriously.it is becoming to costly. No safety defect mentioned.

Subject:recall # 00v287000 my car experienced the identical symptoms as those outlined in the recall of 1994 and 1995 pontiac grand am's.i contacted pontiac twice about this problem and was told that the recall only applied to 1994 and 1995 model years, and i could not be reimbursed for the cost of repairs to my car.pontiac set up file # 04017251 to show my contacts with them.i have also read letters in your database from other pontiac owners with the same problem of the starter motor failing to engage and the ignition switch begins to smoke.

When shutting off the car, the key becomes stuck in the ignition.i have to restart the car several times and shift from drive to park to get it out.

Ignition key will not turn due to lock up.

I had a total failure of the cluster that operates all the gauges. Speedometer, fuel, rpm, ets and temperature. I had to have it replaced with a used cluster as i could not afford a new one. I just recently learned of a recall of the ignition relay and i wondered if this could be another defect worth checking into. I received no notification of the ignition recall, i just heard about it on the news. So i thought this could be a recall that i had not heard about.

Vehicle parked in garage attempted to start itself at 6:01am (mdt). Key was not in ignition nor was iginition switch engaged. Vehicle cranked for approx. 4 minutes while owner attempted to disconnect battery. Following approx 4 minutes of engine cranking vehicle stopped on its own. Owner then attempted to start vehicle to move out of garage in the event of another occurrence. Vehicle electrical system was completely shutdown and vehicle would not start. Owner also noticed strong electrical burning odor. Vehicle would also not disengage from park due to total system failure. Vehicle was towed to dealer. Ignition switch identified as failure (part retained by vehicle owner). While vehicle is no longer within the warranty period, owner has serious concern regarding fire potential to vehicle and surrounding structures if failure had occurred at a time where vehicle had been unattended or unnoticed.

Pontiac grand am 1997, on 5/2/00 car would not start after being driven during the day, it turned over once, then nothing saw smoke trail coming from turn signal arm cut ignition switch off, got out of vechile, went into the house, about 3minutes heard the horn of the vehicle sounding, went outside to check , car was on fire at the drivers side, opened up drivers side door, flames were in the steering unit, and on the drivers seat , and steering wheel and top sun visor, ran and got a fire extinquisher, put out the fire, horn still going off, popped hood release and disconnected the hot cable from the battery. Car is now at dealership pending investigation, concerned that this might have happened when driving the vechile, was just lucky it did not happen during use.

This failure is particularly bad because both times the abs light came on about 10 miles before the occurrence (which in hindsight) i see was the only warning of danger and both times were pitch dark outside, first the car seemed to be in neutral in the drive position, in that the engine revved, but had little real power and while in anticipation (fear) that the car would lunge when the transmission finally took hold didn't come to fruition, what occurred could have been as bad.the dash light indicators started flashing but the main dash lights seen freguently (speedometer) disappeared and then i noticed that i was only being guided by street lamps (second occurence, i didn't even have that) and the car died at the same time, making me lose power steering and brakes and have to get this thing off the road.this car has never missed a beat before that, but when this happened the first time, a bunch of city workers out trying to fix a burst pipe in the street at 5:30 a.m. Were watching this happen and came running over and said that the way this car failed should be reported because it could have been bad for any driver to lose car manueverability at the same time as exterior lights.the second time, when i saw the abs light come on, i was prepared.i called my hubby on the cell phone and he came and followed me from there and i had about 10 miles of drivetime before my car became possessed again.it is sitting by the road on an isolated section in indiana and i'm feeling pretty darn lucky.

Passlock security system on 1997 pontiac grand am se will not allow me to start the car at all.

Vehicle will not start two or three times a day.the engine will crank but the anit-theft indicator light will blink and the engine will shut down (it sound as if no fuel getting to engine.)

The anti-theft devices are malfunctioning. They are often leaving codes and popping on my check engine light.

The passlock anti-theft system in my 1997 pontiac grand am gt is a failed piece of junk that never should have been put into any vehicle.gm should be responsible for correcting this situation as many, many individuals are spending too much money not having this situation fixed.most mechanics are at a loss.

Spark plug and wire were supposed to be good for 100,000 miles, but were no good after 47,000 miles, water pump went out at 49,000miles. I have never had so many problems on a vehicle with low mileage. I have had previous gm cars that have lasted over 100,000 miles with no problems. Is this car known to have these kinds of problems? i have spent $700 in repairs because the way the car is put together it takes hours for the mechanic to fix anything.$483 for a water pump!!

Card runs rough, stumbles and hesitates, enginecheck light on. Dealer replaced catalitic converter, o2 censors, egr valve, spark plugs to no avail. Please e-mail me if you are having the same problem at [email protected].

1997 pontiac grand am - power windows - motors both left drivers side and right passenger side. Windows will not go up or down. Once the motors cool down the windows can only be raised .5 inch every 5 minutes. There is no sealant or gasket to prevent moisture to the motor which causes an electrical short to the motor. The pontiac grand am, oldsmobile achieva and buick skylark all have experienced this same design problem requiring millions of hours of service and labor and tons of scrap metal. This has been a design issue for at least 15 years. What a scam. Who's in charge?

The modules in question go out without warning.in fact the day we bought the car one of modules went out, and we were without a car for six weeks.the dealer said the module was on back order. I just don't knowwhat else to do at this point . I have blown apoxametly 25 -30 fuses since the accident .there is no certain time or ocurrence that this fuse blows . This vehicle has automatic headlights on it when it becomes dusk there is a sensor in the dash that tells the headlight switch to turn on the lights.i'm afaid that there will be a problem there which could cause this vehicle to have a fire in the interior of the vehicle.i have taken the vehicle at thr advise of the insurance company and it they told me to only way they can trace this is if the fuse in question keeps blowing one after another then they might find the problem.maybe you might be able to give mr the number of pontaic factory service reps for pontaic if possible to try and getthis matter resolved.

While under warranty swaybar bushings were replaced 4 times.the rear windshield leaked water into the trunk which caused moldy carpet that the dealership refused to replace even though the car was still under warranty.the plastic cover on the instrument panel rattles as well as the plastic cover where the radio and climate control knobs are located.dealer has said that there is nothing that can be done about this.the sidewalls on the two front tires were defective and had to be replaced.the left rear tire had a patch in it before i even received the car.the fuse for the lights on the instrument panel keeps blowing and when the dealership was questioned about this they said that it was nothing.it has now blown 15 times.the water pump "shredded" at 37,000 miles.the car accelerates on its own after being taken out of park and put in drive.the brakes "pulse" at 10 miles an hour.the radio controls work opposite of what they're supposed to (ie turn up and it does nothing, turn down and it gets louder).battery went dead at 40,000 miles.rearview mirror lever "fell off" inside door for no apparent reason.severe paint chipping on front of car.

There are more problems then listed.every time i have spoken with the dealer it has been a waste of time.phone calls never returned.i get blown off by them.i was in royal oak,mi with my friends when the car froze in the middle of the road.every dash light was blinking, and we couldn't get the car out of drive to push it.once we finally got the car moved to a side street, my friends went to look for help, and i got jumped and mased while i stood by my car waiting for them to return.the drivers side key doesn't work, dealer says it's cause of keyless entry, air conditioner kills battery, cruse control kicks out, head lights always are on, and it's not the day time running lights.when stepping on the gas to pass someone, nothing happens, about 5 or more seconds later, it will kick in unexpectidly. This is the second car i have bought from this dealer, the first was a 91 pontiac sunbird, which turned out to be a 90 when i traided it in at another dealer.so i ended up paying way to much for the car, and lost on it when i traded it in.i live 1 hour and 45mins. Away from the dealer now when i took it in for service i found out that they gave me only mechanical on the extended service contract, no electrical, so everything comes out of my pocket.then to find out i have to leave my car there for days up to weeks, with no loaner, and no way to get back home, and the service manager, and dealer both said "nothing we can do for you."

I have taken my car into this dealer numerous times for the same problem with the check engine light, they still fail to fix the problem.

Coolant levels in reserve tank always would drop below minimum levels, and we would continue to add coolant.last oil change in june 2009 review no problem. November 2009, while son was driving home from college (approximately 80 miles) car began to overheat with temp gauge reading in the red.had car towed to local shop and reported that coolant had leaked into core, engine destroyed (estimated repair - need new/remanufacturedengine $2500-3000).seems while reviewing this subject online and w/nhtsa web site that this has been a re-occurring problem with 1997 pontiacs4 and 6 cylinder engines.

Ignition won't turn to the off position. I have to disconnect the battery so i don't drain it. I have to leave my kids in the hot car while i do this. Or pay $200 that i don't have to get it fixed. I have found many other people that have the same problem. I was told it could be the sensor on the transmission that tells the car its in park. Whatever the problem is it happens to a lot of vehicles. I understand that i have to maintain my car but i don't see why so many people have this problem.

The contact owns a 1997 pontiac grand am.the contact stated that the vehicle shut off at a stop without warning.the mechanic stated that the electrical system caused the failure.as of october 15, 2007, the dealer and manufacturer had not repaired the vehicle.the manufacturer stated that her vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 02v070000 (electrical system: ignition: switch).the contact felt that her vehicle should be included as part of the recall.the current and failure mileages were 150,000.updated 01/11/08.*ljthe dealer stated engine replaced in june. Engine failed.his car has 58250 miles. My daughter called me at work to inform me that something is making noise in the front of the car, but it goes away once you exceed 20mph. After dinner i pup the hood open and try to start the car. I discover that noise during startup was not normal, and car has great difficulties to start. When it finally stars, i hear knocking noise coming from the left side of the engine. The noise was concentrated on the cylinder next to timing chain. I stopped the engine and check the oil level, it was ok. I contacted local auto repair shop. He instructed me to bring the car to the shop, but to drive slowly and try not to accelerate rapidly. When i got there and parked the car i also noted that my check engine light and oil level light came on during idle. My mechanic determines immediately that my engine completely failed. He also make says that he is not surprised at all once he saw that this is 4 cylinder 2.4l engine. He estimated that the repair cost will be over $3000.00. This is only slightly less then the blue book value. Im driving my friends spare car 1988 mazdamx6 and my daughter drives my other pontiac 1996 bonneville sse, (which by the way just have water pump failure after 48000mi) i search many bulletin boards on the net and found out that this is not isolated incident. Many other people experienced exactly the some problem between 50000 and 80000 mi. Having engine failure @ less then 60000mi should be investigated further. Based on my research this particular engine should be investigated by cpa for recall. By the way i purchased my first car in 1974 it was the buick electra, since then my family owned 9 different cars (all gm) but im 100% positive that this grand am was my last gm car. My next car will be japanese. My friend just clock 250000mi on his honda accord, the only major component that failed was the alternator @ 165000mi. Sorry gm, but there is no more gas in your thank for me.

The consumer noticed that coolant was disappearing from the overflow reservoir.the engine oil was also discolored.the intake manifold gasket was replaced at 35,000 miles and at 65000 miles another one was needed.

Left side steering colum pin fell out steering wheel almost fell off dash

When you run the air, the car stalls and won't start anywhere from one hour to three or four possibly the next day.the horn works sometimes, the raidio works sometimes as does the dispay, the volume goes up and down.the fuel systems shuts down along with the car when the air is running. The power window quit working in april, i replaced the one of the passenger side only to have the one on the driver side to stop working.the brakes went out with no warning.anytime the car has any problems no lights come on to warn you it will just stop working.the shop that put the used engine in still can't tell me why it stared knocking.the ets system comes on and off all the time withoutpressing the button,i have had nothing but problems with the 1997 ponitac grand am gt.

The motors on the windows go out around 97k miles.my drivers window went out a month ago.my right, front window is about to go out, and my back right window went out today.obviously, there is a problem with faulty window motors with this model.the total cost out of my pocket for this incident is about $1000 included with a lot of frustration!

1st. My recall (nhtsa#02v070/gm #02008) started march 2002 and we just now received the letter in march 2004. And my vehicle did everything the letter said it would do except, they're was not a fire but trying to start it caused it to jump time --causung a hole in the piston and broke valve!!much bigger and costlier outcome//in other words i need a new engine since having the piston and valve fixed is costing around $2500.00!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 1997 pontiac grand am is leaking coolant into the oil.i first noticed this problem at around 40000 miles. I would periodically have to add coolant to the vehicle because it was low. I thought it was normal.now the problem is really bad, to the point that i do not drive the car now with 80000 miles. *nlm

Intake manifold gasket warped and coolant leaked.this is the second gm 3.1 l engine which has had to have the intake manifold replaced.also had to replace the water pump at the same time.additionally the alternator has been replaced (again in both gm 3.1 l's i've had).the intake manifold gasket problem seems to be common with pontiac's and malibu's (and other gm made cars).it's expensive to repair at a shop and time consuming and frustrating to do on your own.it's ridiculous that such a cheap part and cheaply made part hasn't been recalled.

Water pump failed. Yh

Dex-cool wasused as only coolant. My mechanic faxed me some information on dex-cool stating that it was starting to cause problems in the 1st cars using it. Everything cooling related is starting to go out.

Coolantis leaking ontorack and pinion, deteriorating the rack and pinion, and making it very difficult to steervehicle when making a turn.also, there is alot of play in the steering wheel andnoise when turning.power steering hose has gone bad. Consumer has contacteddealer. Powere steering hose and water pump leaked causing rack and pinion damage. Front brake shoes failed.

This is the letter i submitted to them:i'm writing you this letter to let you know how disatisfied i am with your product.i bought my 97 pontiac grand am new.i am a strong believer you get what you pay for.that is why i bought new versus a used vehicle.i believe that i should get more for my money than what i have got from your product.i'm very dissatisfied!!!!i am in the u.s.m.c.my family andi do alot of traveling to and from our home state.my wife was broke down on the highway with this vehicle. We as car owners have never broke down on the highway in my 18 years of being in the military.i am very picky about my vehicles andalways have my car serviced as required.i never miss my oil changes.i am a middle class citizen just trying to make a living and make sure my family is safe on the roads.i have had no problems with the car dealership.i believe them to be the best in town.i believe i just picked the lemon on the lot.i have listed my expenses that i have paid out of my pocket and also what was covered under warranty.please fell free to give me a call if you have any questions.i feel that i should be reimburse for repairs and expenses.

Th next year after i purchased my car, i began to lose compression. The car would also accelerate on its own, i noticed that my "check engine lights were on."i immediately took the car back to the dealers and they gave a diagnosis of "using the wrong gas". I am a women, and i don't know much about cars, therefore, at the time, i did not dispute this ridiculous diagnosis. A year later, i had to replace the brakes/disc pads twice. There was loud squelching noises. I also bought new tires after one year. Major problems have developed since 1999, which are: i had to have the thermostat replaced (air condition and heat stopped working), i had to have a new waterpump installed (car was pouring anti-freeze and smoking), and as of february 6, 2000, the car just completely stopped running. I received two qoutes from area repair shops estimating between $3k to $4,500 to rebuild and engine! i have exhausted myself contacting fred jones (spoke to him personally) of fred jones pontiac, and their customer care center. Please help me! also, i read on your site that there was a recall on this vehicle for underhood fires - i never received a recall letter and my car was never taken in! i am very concerned that besides this make of car being a lemon, this may have also contributed to my problems. Please help me!!!

The wheel joint simply broke apart no prior warning. Company did cover that.

*scc

Intake manifold gaskets failed resulting in engine leaking.

I was driving to work one day and the engine started to make a funny noise, and when i shut it off. Tookit to the mechanic , they told me it was the connecting rod.i will have to replace the engine because it is cheaper to put an engine in rather then rebuild the one i have.the engine is still in the car because i haven't got enough money to replace it.

Vehicle would travel 40 mph without applying gas.

Oil pan failed resulting in leaking.

Engine cylinder head cover failed, causing oil to leak.

Vehicle has intermittent noise in right rear, also in the right front of car, cluncking noise whenstarting the car up, sometimes while driving, continues to increase, dealer cannot duplicate the problem.

While driving 80mph driver heard a grinding noise in front end. Then, oil light came on ,and black smoke started coming from tailpipe.fuel entered the engine andbearings failed which caused the oil to become black and the bearing to grind.

When driving and driver presses the accelerator, vehicle will stall and then all of a sudden accelerate and take off. Vehicle was at dealership, and they replaced fuel pump/oil pump and computer analysis were done. Recently brakesseemed to be performing poorly.upon braking, stopping distance exceeded approximately half carlength. Please add vin.#.

Oil leaked onto the engine, which caused the vehicle to smoke.

Transmission not shifting, replacement of the valve body and oil pump necessary. Mjs

If car does not run for 10 minutes or so, it stalls when driven.when restarted, it bogs very badly for a few minutes, then is able to be driven.this occurs in any weather conditions and has been occurring since i bought the car in 1998.it is a 1997.

Car would intermittently stall at any time or any speed, such as entering a highway or crossing an intersection or on the highway. After much investigating, problem was determined to be excessive oil pressure. Very high oil pressure causes the engine valves to operate incorrectly resulting is stalling or rapid power loss. The dealership reported that pontiac was aware of this commom and latent defect but would not repair the problem as a recall. This car was a nightmare to drive until the presure regulator was repaired at my expense.

While drivingvehicle will unexpectedly shut down. Also there is a malfunction within the headlight system. Dealer cannot diagnose the fault. Please give any further details.

Engine idles at 3000 rpm for reasons unknown.alsoonce brake is released vehicle will rapidly accelerate to 60 mph. Dealers hasreplaced computer module which did not correct problem. Vehicle also has brake problems.

While going down ramp, exiting a parking garageengine began to race and accelerate.hitting the brakes did not help, was only able to stop the automobile when it was pushed it into neutral and then drive. Then it calmed down.

Engine has a hesitation when coming to a stop or leaving a stop.oil pump has been replaced twice. Ignition module has been replaced twice.dealer has not corrected the problem on 4 attempts in two weeks.

While driving vehicle stalled unexpectedly which could cause a crash.also, therewas an electrical short in the headlight system.dealer replaced parts, but could not determine the problem.please provide further information.

Car will almost die when pulling out into traffic. It will stumble , fall on its face what ever you call it. But then it will usually take back off real quick. It uses to much gas and the engine light comes off and on along with the coolant light. The blinkers sometimes don't work either.

Car tries to die as attempting to take off in a intersection or from a stop.i've had in the shop 3 times and never has been fixed.parking brake doesn't engage unless pulled to last click. All of the rotors and brake pads have been replaced.power steering pump.and oil pump repaced.service person at bob howard told me my car wou.is car since purchase.i'm planning on taking it back for its 4th time. Vehicle continually stalling, burning smell and noise.

Christmas eve 1999 while driving down the highway access road a loud boom was heard and the car began to lose to power.luckily, we were about 200 feet from a gas station.we managed to get the car into the gas station.at this time i saw an immense amount of smoke coming from under the hood.my husband opened the hood and found the engine was on fire.as he ran into the store to get a fire extinguisher,a man from the fireworks stand next to the gas station arrived with an extinguisher and put the fire out. He had seen us coming down the access road with big ball of fire under the car.our insurance company says that a piston gave out and as the engine began failing oil began to drip onto the catalytic converter or some other componant causing the fire.this is notcovered by my insurance company because the fire was due to mechanical failure. We need to have a new engine.the dealer estimate is $6500.00.this is just the latest mechanical failure on this vehicle.we have had numerous problems with this vehicle and have spent over $4,000.00 in repairs prior to this incident.

This is the third time the power sunroof has failed, each time it fails in the exact same manner, the window is opened slightly to vent and then the unit fails, and it won't open or close.the second time, the car was in the shop for over a week, then i had to wait a month for a part to come in.in the meanwhile, i could not use the sunroof either. The headlights stay on most of the time when the car is on.the sensor seems to work intermittently.on bright, sunny days, the headlights come on.on cloudy, rainy days, when the lights should be on, they don't come on.the dealer couldn't find anything wrong with it.

*scc

Our car decelerates from 65 mph down to 45 mph on the freeway.this has occurred nine different times and we are fortunate that we have not been killed.the dealership has no idea what is causing this and they don't seem overly concerned that we may die if this occurs again.all we are asking is for the lease to be terminated becuase of this problem.please help us before something happens.thank you.

Took vehicle to murphy motors, dealership here in my home town. Took to them due to factmy heat gauge kept rising and i didn't want to runcar hot ;went to find out what was wrong.

Anti lock brakes not functioning properly.

Vehicle is 1997 pontiac grand am. The automatic brake system has never seemed to operate smoothly. The pads have been replaced, the rotors have been resurfaced and also replaced and still brakes do not operate smoothly. When braking at 70 mph a feeling of braking and non-braking alternately can be noticed. When slowing from 20 mph to a complete stop a feeling of braking and no-braking can be felt. It seems like something is out of time or adjustment. At the slow speed the danger is not great; but at the higher speed, control of the vehicle is a problem. Control is a much greater problem when roads are wet, snowy, or icy.

Abd brakes failed. Pedal went all the way to the floor without stopping.

Brakes: when driving and attempting to stop the car, has to push pedal completely to the floor before the car will stop. Beginning to make grinding noise when applying the brakes. In addition, headlights will not cpme on on certain times/seat belt twists all the time and ticking noise from engine area.

When applying brakes there would be a popping noise present, and brakes would lock up.this would cause the vehicle to drift to the right into another lane. Also left rear and right front window was inopartive, also the transmission was slipping.

When braking, the vehicle pulsates as if something is out-of-round.the sensation originates in the front end (maybe from the rotor).

While driving at 50 mph vehicle began to overheat.consumer heard sounds as if some one had dropped marbles in the engine.soon after the vehicle stalled.a mechanic examined the vehicle, and found that the timing chain was defective.also, consumerhad to get a new transmission, andabs system needed to be replaced.

Consumer was driving at approximately 30 mph and slowing down by applying brake pedal lightly when brake pedal completely fell off, causing loss of brakes.consumer had to accelerate quickly and get into right lane to get out oftrafficto prevent accident.then, gradually applied emergency brake. Pontiac dealer stated that 30 cent clip broke which caused the brake pedal to fall.

When traveling in wet weather, when brakes applied, it is like a complete brake failure. Unreasonable amount of time for the brakes to begin gripping...it is as if the brakes are saturated with water.no braking action for what i believe is an unsafe period of time.this has never happened in any other car i have driven.it is as if the discs are completely exosed to water.mechanic says nothing wrong with brakes.

Please help.

While drivingabout 30 mph and whenwhen applying brake pedal to stop or reduce speed, the brakes make noise like grinding metal to metal. Also had replaced brakes rotors four times.

Brake rotors continually overheat and warp due to design flaw (lack of ventillation).

When driving at any speed and applying the brakes there is a squeaking noise, and the brakes are hard. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, anddealer determined that the rotors had to be changed because the rotors wore out.

After approximately every 12 month there is a shudder to the car when applying the brakes to stop. This is the third time taking this car and having new rotors put on. Dealership states rotors keep warping.

While driving in low speed and applying the brakes, the rotors becamewarped, causing the brakes to be noisy.

Have taken this car to dealer four times for rotors.fifth set now warping after 6k miles.have heard all reasons why it could happen (my fault) and all brake components (supposedly) check out as o.k.service manager says he has replaced them "out of the goodness of his heart" and will not replace them again.factory repsays the lug nuts on the 4th set were over torqued (by goodyear) and caused warping.he had new rotors put on when it was proved to him that the dealership did it.i paid to have new pads installed to have everything new.old pads were not excessively worn.feelingthe same surging, lurching in the front end at low speeds - not the pedal - for 2k miles.it's happening again - just don't have it in me to fight the dealership again.paid for an extended warranty and have had to battle to get repairs covered. The most recent of problems is my steering went out on me while turning in to a parking lot. Power steering line replaced due to pin hole leaks, multiplewheel bearings, radiator. Ignition switch, and one of the sensors in theupper back side of the motor somehow came undone and melted the connectorand caused a dead short in my car.

While driving at any speed vehicle suddenly became very hard to steer.also, when making a left or right turnsteering did the same. This has been a problem for about two months.dealership was called about the problem. Owner was told to check withmanufacturer.problem has not been corrected.

Upon delivery of my car i heard a loud sporadic crunching noice from the front right side of my car. After many visits my original dealership could not find the reason i contacted another dealer who diagnosed the noise as the evap system and that it was a normal noise. This is not a normal noise to me and i am very unsatisfied with the noise my car makes it is temperature related and sporatic for this reason i feel that i should have been told about this noise at the time of sale so i had the choice of buying this model with the disturbing crunching noise.i was not informed that the car i was purchasi8ng would make this noise and was told at a workshop in jan 1997 that it was not a normal noise and that i should bring it in to the service center which is when my many visits started. I have made many phone calls wrote a letter and have had terrible customer service. My car still has this noise. Thandk you pat pasco.

Rear sway bar bushing failure.

While drivingat low speeds 30-35 mph or pulling in or out of driveway, a sqeaking popping noise came from the front driver's side of the vehicle. Traveling 35mph when rear of vehicle hit side of road and driver lost control. Hit a ditch & came up on other side. Took to mechanic & informed left rear suspension out of alignment. Had to have bearings repacked. *ml

My son has a 1995 grand am with the same tires, and he experienced the same problem with a goodyear eagle ga, the same size as ours. I just wanted to let you folks know. (dot number: mkt2e2dr12tiresize: p205/55r16)

While driving approximately 55 mph the front passenger's side tire blew out without any warning sending vehicle into a ditch.neither airbag deployed.driver sustained head injuries.dealer has been notified.

Afetr market tires, p185/80r13 size.right front tire explored without warning on the inside wallwhile driving 40-45mph.failed tire was a goodyear regatta, consumer noted that the blowout resulted in a perpendicular cut to the inner sidewall from the rim, after inspection, the other three tires were found to have cuts on the inner sidewall along the rim area, tires were replaced at a prorated cost.

Pe00 020 ; consumer was traveling on the highway, and she was on her way todealership.mechanic told her thatfront left tire had separted.tiresize was p205/55r16.tire was an eagle goodyear.second incident on06-jun-99, while she was traveling on the highwayrear left tire separated.

While driving 65 mph on the interstate 75, the front driver's side tire went flat right away. This was due to a defective valve stem which leaked and caused the tire to be ruined. New tires on a 1997, pontiac. Tire size p19565r15.consumer states the stem leaked at the rim where the stem goes through.

When trying to start the car the steering locks up and you have to move the steering wheel back and forth for it to catch and finally will start like it keeps locking up.my son bought this car as his first car so no sure how long it has been like this doing this as we purchased from a friend and he did say that something was up with the steering when trying to start.

The engine quits running while driving and will not restart.engine check light then comes on and the clock will not show the time.the dealer has serviced the car 3 times for this and say it is something different each time, even though the car does the exact same thing every time.the warranty is almost out and we feel this is rediculous!

While driving 80mph driver heard a grinding noise in front end. Then, oil light came on ,and black smoke started coming from tailpipe.fuel entered the engine andbearings failed which caused the oil to become black and the bearing to grind.

While driving in stop and go traffic a van came up behind consumer's vehicle andrear ended it.consumers had to slam on brakes, passengers had to restrain themselves by placing hands on the dashboard.seat belts were worn at the time, but they didin't catch.this could have caused passenger to go through the window. Took to dealer, and they are did nothing about problem.

Visor hangs to low, misadjusted.

Card runs rough, stumbles and hesitates, enginecheck light on. Dealer replaced catalitic converter, o2 censors, egr valve, spark plugs to no avail. Please e-mail me if you are having the same problem at [email protected].

Engine light and abs light stays on.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact, thedashboard fell on the passenger, breaking her right leg and left foot.dealer has not been notified.

Vehicle accelerates while driving without prior warning. Dealership is aware of problem.

While stopped the vehicle experiences sudden acceleration.

Sudden acceleration, causing accident.

Recently my wife's 1997 pontiac grand am gt has on two separate occasions engaged the cruise control and would not disengage, even if you brake or manually select the off position on the cruise control selector switch.

While traveling at slow speeds (in parking lots, ect.) car will accellerate uncontrollably.applying brakes does not help, put in neutral and rpms rev up to "red zone".

After applying, cruise control failed to disengage, the car accelerated out of control and would not disengage with braking, need to turn off car to slow down while driving on the highway, barely averted crash.

When driiving at any speed vehicle accelerated very fast, causing the consumer to put the vehicle into neutral.butvehicle did not stop, kept accelerating.consumer turned the vehicle off,and vehicle slowed down.consumer almost hit another vehicle. Also, vehicle almost wentinto the garage before coming to a stop. Dealer can't determine the problem.

While going down ramp, exiting a parking garageengine began to race and accelerate.hitting the brakes did not help, was only able to stop the automobile when it was pushed it into neutral and then drive. Then it calmed down.

The consumer's 1997 pontiac grand am accelerated suddenly.*mrthis mainly occurred when the vehicle was and driven after being parked.

When driving at any speed, the vehicle accelerates. Consumer has tohold foot on brake. Engine will race, and then the vehicle will slow down and come to a stop.

Vehicle continaully experience high rpm's and acceleration on its own without throttle, replacement of o2 sensors and pcm did not rectify acceleration problems. Mjs

Dealer has tried to fixvehicle 5 times forsame problem.vehicle idles up to 1500 rpm's in park and varies in drive. Pcm-vcmwas replaced twice.throttle position sensorreplaced twice, and the throttle body unit was recently replaced.problem had not occurred for a year, and dealer didn't seem to have a remedy.

While traveling on the highway without prior warning.accellerateand shut down.please fill in additional information dealer is aware of the problem.

The engine idles at 2000rpm when turned on.thenbrakes have to be applied so that vehicle does not take off. Dealer can't duplicate the problem.

Vehicle suddenly accelerates whenever vehicle is started or when driving. Vehicle been in/out dealer shop on eight occasions, and dealer was unable to correct the problem.

Car accelerated to 100+ miles, could not brake or slow down for approx 3 miles, and then at five mile intervals it would drop.this was during rush hour traffic.i could not turn key nor shift, until it got down to 10-15 miles per hour.then i was able to shift so it would stop.dealer was called.car was towed to dealer.dealer says there's no sign of anything wrong.but of course there is.this was a horrifying, terrifying experience, and i shook for hours.when i finally got the car to stop, it smoked (black) from under the hood.seatbelt was on.i'm not sure what a 2-point or 3-point belt is.

*scc

Vehicle would surge from a stop light or stop sign when foot was off brakes.dealer notified, and was sunable to correct problem.

Engine idles at 3000 rpm for reasons unknown.alsoonce brake is released vehicle will rapidly accelerate to 60 mph. Dealers hasreplaced computer module which did not correct problem. Vehicle also has brake problems.

While driving 65 mph accelerator pedal stuck, and the vehicleaccelerated upto 75 mph andraced up to over 2000 rpms without warning. Vehiclewould stop until driver slammed on brakes really hard.please give any further details.

On 3 separate occasions when consumer depressed the gas pedal it got stuck.when this occurred vehicle revved.consumer then put vehicle in neutral, andrpms went up to 5. Then putvehicle back in drive andpedaldid not stick.

Vehicle acceleratedwhen shiftingfromdrive to third gear, andwhen shiftingfromsecond to third gear, it alsoaccelerated.

While drivingvehicle surged and idled very high, causeingsudden accleration, which may haveresulted in a crash.dealer could not determine the cause of theproblem.please provide further information.

Engine idles to 3500 rpms without applying the accelerator pedal.the vehicle has to be put into the netural to gain control.dealer cannot identify the problem.please give any further details.

The vehicle idles high when it is first started and while driving. It idles anywhere between it idles 1000-1500 rpm's. The brakes automatically pump themselves when this happens. The vehicle was taken to dealership, where the dealer corrected the problem by replacing a computer chip. The vehicle is doing the same thing again.

While traveling vehicle idled high and ran rough in traveling.*ml

On-going / intermittent problem with sudden acceleration. Whenevervehicle camedown to a slow speed of apprx. 20 mph or less, engine would accelerate. Cruise control was not engaged. Dealer notified, andwas unable to correct the problem. Can nhtsa provide additional information.

While drivingvehicle surged and idled very high, causeingsudden accleration, which may haveresulted in a crash.dealer could not determine the cause of theproblem.please provide further information.

Intermittently when brakes are applied vehicle will accelerate.engine will race and try to accelerate on its own.brakes must be firmly applied or vehicle must be put into park to avoid vehicle taking off.the dealerhas been notified.manufacturer has purchased vehicle back.

While driving vehicle will suddenly accelerate, and the brakes will not slow the vehicle down. Had to turn off the vehicle a couple of times in order to stop.dealer replace computertwice.dealer cannot determine the cause of the problem.occurred3 times.please provide further information.

Windshield and rear window glass distort vision.

Driver side power window goes up and down and gets stuck by it's self.

It was hard for the consumer to roll up/down the front power windows.the dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.both front seat windows require 10-20 short moves in order to close after being opened. *sc

Defect within windshield wiper is causing the windshield wiper to act in anerraticmanner, and at times becoming inoperative. This is an intermittent problem.left rear window motor failed, 1150 miles later the window switch failed.radio and clock light fail, dealer checked wiring and fuses.left front shoulder belt/retractor belt button damaged, dealer replaced seatbelt.

When you run the air, the car stalls and won't start anywhere from one hour to three or four possibly the next day.the horn works sometimes, the raidio works sometimes as does the dispay, the volume goes up and down.the fuel systems shuts down along with the car when the air is running. Driver's and passenger's front windows will no longer operate. Regulators need to be replaced.

I have had to replace the motors in the windows each twice and i am going on the third time for the driver front and rear.this will make 10 windowmotors.when i asked my dealership if there had been any kind of a recall the said no.also, my check engine light will not go off.are these things related to the wiring harness recall.

The motors on the windows go out around 97k miles.my drivers window went out a month ago.my right, front window is about to go out, and my back right window went out today.obviously, there is a problem with faulty window motors with this model.the total cost out of my pocket for this incident is about $1000 included with a lot of frustration!

The windows did not roll up or down.

I have put ten new window motors in my car in the past four years.when i asked the dealership if there had been any recalls they laughed and said of course not.my check engine light is also always on for no reason.are these two problems related to the wiring harness recall.

Electrical defect keeps shortening out alternator / power mirror motors and headlights. Consumer has replaced 5 alternators within 5 years and 9 months. Cause is unknown.

Had the sunroof motor replaced 2 times, left front wheel noise, dealer said there is no problem always makes grinding noise left front after car sits all night , when you first put car in reverse the noise is noticeable, had too have left rear taillght replaced when new,car trunck gets dust into at right side of rear seat where it folds down , dealer says there is no proble, still not repaired ,car is now out of warranty.has coolant leak at the intake manifold ,has been leaking for aprox 15,000 miles again out of warrantythis was my first new car i have ever bought and will never buy another general motors car again, and i work for generalmotors. I have had nothing but problems with this car. I had a salvage buick centry i sold too purchase this new one and it was a very nice car never had the problems with that car and it was wrecked. No more general motors for me .

When applying brakes there would be a popping noise present, and brakes would lock up.this would cause the vehicle to drift to the right into another lane. Also left rear and right front window was inopartive, also the transmission was slipping.
