While driving down highway 4 my steering column caught on firemaking me pull the car over and jump out along with 2 other persons , after that we called the tow truck to have it towed home to see what we were going to do about the problem and who to contact in the mean time the dealership had my car for 4 months and to this day still has it and is requesting me to pay half of the bill to get it fixed and i do not feel i should pay a dime for a recalled car with an open recall on it so therefore i am filing a complaint against the dealership for the car to be fixed and for all the inconvenience in which it has caused me getting back and fourth to school, i am in college full time so therefore i had to do public transportation getting to and from my destinations. And when the car caught fire it was the first time in which it had ever happened. So now my grandfather is going to pay for it to get fixed and would like all of his money back and i want all i can get for all the inconvenience in which this problem has caused myself and all others who were involved and also we need to keep in mind this could have been a much bigger problem if anyone would have gotten hurt do to the fire and or any others damages that could have happened.

1995 pontiac grand am overheating.replaced the thermostat four times and finally the head gaskets warped.paid for the head gasket replacement.continued to overheat and called general motors. Mediator was of very little help.took it back under the repair warranty, then the radiator blew because they had replaced the radiator cap with a higher pressure rating.we took it back and they replaced the radiator, hoses, heater core and numerous other things.it continued to overheat.in general we have spent about $2500.00 and still have this issue.additionally, we now have the abs warning light coming on occasionally and i found some engine wires twisted up over the manifold.i have since moved them back to their original location and had to use electrical tape on another wire connection that the lock (snap) was broke off.since doing this i have not had the car overheating as often.additionally since repairs were made, we now have heavy condensation on the interior windshield, (window wipers on the inside could be a solution...) along with puddles of water on the passenger floor and in the trunk....god only knows what they did to my car after i called general motors, everything just seemed to get worse from there.. Coincidence, i think not.they are now bankrupt so there is no recourse in my case of retrieving money needlessly spent on repairs they should have fixed properly in the first place.and while i'm at it, i wonder if they ever took car of that ignition recall?i am still driving the car when it is behaving but i have been having to hold the ignition switch to get the car to start which i hadn't had to do before...are they waiting for my car to catch on fire due to this ignition problem?the smartest thing would be to take it to someone else but no one wants to touch the car after finding out it was at the other dealership so where do i go now?and a reply on that sure would be a big help!

The combination switch for the head lights/turn signal, and cruise controlfailed. As a result, while driving the head lights shut off without warning.headlights repeatedly went out while driving. *ph

Horn inoperative due to loose wire.

Horn is defective.yh

In early spring of 2000, the horn started by itself.it would start blairing at any time.it happened off and on during the next few months.i would estimate 3-4 times, while i was driving and in the middle of the night.the only way i could stop it was to tap on the horn.in late june, it happened 5 - 6 times in one week.i finally pulled the fuse and took it to stan olsen pontiac here in omaha.they replaced the horn module.i was told it was bent, but they could not tell me how this could have happened.i was also informed that this bent plate was putting pressure on the air bag, and i was very fortunate that the bag never deployed, otherwise, i could have been in an accident which probable would have been quite serious.i paid a total of $692.74 to have this replaced.i have always taken great care of my car, but as you can understand this is of great concern.after receiving the recall on the ignition switch, which i had replaced, i became concerned that maybe this module could have been defective from the manufacturer.

We purchased the car in june of 2001. The car had problems right away with the driver side door locks and the signal lights.the signal lights would not work after using them once each time the car started.the dealer repaired the signal lights.in september of 2001 the car began hesitating to start.it sometimes takes an extra few seconds to begin to start.one day it refused to start after some errands.it also had a very foul smell.that evening it started again.i took it to a mechanic who checked the charging system and other misc. Ideas and couldn't find the source of the problem.it's still hesitating to start most of the time.the electric windows also short out now.

Erls fuse blows, which causes the cruise control to stop working along with the a/c, also the reverse lights stop working, and when driving at 70 mph instead of the rpm's running about 2500 they are at 3500 when the fuse blows. Brought it to dealer to be fixed, they put a 25 amp fuse in it when it only takes a 15 amp fuse and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Of course that blew eventually along with some smoke from the fuse panel.

I am experiencing intermitant electricl failures with the lighting system. Also, have had failures in the electric windows.

A fuse blew that caused transmission and air conditioner compressorto go out. Took to dealer, and they replaced fuses. But,problem still exists.

This auto has total electrical problems.i replaced the alternator just 4 weeks after purchase.i broke down in the middle of the ocala national forrest with 4 10 year old girls in the car.since then, i have replaced a 4 year old battery at 2 years age and all of the fuses.in 1/00 while driving in a fog white out on top of a 300 ft bridge, i put on my flashers and all my lights went out.a vehicle behind me didn't see me and nearly pushed us both off the bridge.since then every time i put on my flashers, all other electrical things stop.my elect door locks keep blowing fuses and windows don't work all the time.i'v contacted the dealer who told me all these problems began after i bought the car and it was my problem.i purchased a extended warrenty, but this problem is not covered.please help!!

Problems with turn signals/emergency flashers, and dash lights working intermittently.also, recently had trouble starting, as it didn't want to turn over a few times in row.when turn signals didnt work i turned on emergency, and failed to work.almost rear ended!

Had tried to start vehicle, would not turn over, and there was no clicking noise. Left vehicle parked. Earlier had smelled plastic burning. Went and contacted dealership. Heard horn blowing. Checked and noticed windows were dark. Opened driver's door and smoke came billowing out of dashboard and steering column. Flames started to shoot out of column. Notified fire department who put flames out.

The instrument cluster displays the check oil light guage as on even though the oil level is fine.i continue to check the oil but i have always maintained my car in excellent condition.this is dangerous though because the user will not be able to know if the car did develop a large oil leak.the check oil light would be on but it has always been on.the engine could seize or an accident could occur.i do know that there is a technical service bulletin already published which describes this same problem on this year and make of pontiac.

The car was driven for 8 minutes and parked. I went back to the car 3 1/2 hours later and found the passenger side burned up. Apparently a fire ignited in the electrical wiring under the dash while the car was parked. The dash board, controls, wiring, and steering wheel were all melted.the windshield had cracked from the heat. The visor fell on the seat and burned the seat. I have pictures of the damage. I am waiting on a formal report from the insurance claim.

1995 pontiac grand am overheating.replaced the thermostat four times and finally the head gaskets warped.paid for the head gasket replacement.continued to overheat and called general motors.

Clear coat paint is chipping 12.power locks do not work 13.window track on driverside bad 14.seal in trunck is bad leaks

While driving the overheat light illuminated, and engine died.the mechanic stated that the head gasket had cracked.phscc

We have had the crank shaft sensor replaced ,and that cost us two trips to a mechanic to figure that problem out. The timing belt changed twice, another motor put in this year, new altenator, new radiator, fuel pump, water pump, and a new throttle position sensor. We still have an oil leak, we need new struts and we continually have problems with the brakes.not to leave out that when we bought the car we had to have the heater coil replaced.the door lock does not work on the passenger side and the motor mount is broke. I am sure there are other things i have left out but i can not think of everything right now.what got me to the point of sending a complaint is that we just replaced the radiator 08/02/03, and we seem to have to replace something every month or so, and there does not seem to be one part on this car that does not cost a bundle. Is there anyway to get any of my money back for all of this? i'm sure not but there ought to be a way to let other people know about pontiac grand-am quad 4 (2.3)it's a piece of_ _ _ _ !!!!!

Consumer stated the thermostat was replaced 3 times, due to the vehicle overheating, however consumer is still experiencing problems.

1995 pontiac grand am seoverheating problems since i got this car. Also have checked out several complaint web sites and low and behold it seems the rest of the pontiac world has the same problem.my suggestion to pontiac is to stop production of all production of new vehicles and work on fixing the problem before spreading it even more like a virus.

Car bought in 1995. Has been in the shop over 10 times for major repairs. Car is again in the shop due to not being able to accelerate over 30 miles per hour. Entire engine shakes very badly.

This car was bought used in 1998, it is a 1995. We have replacedheater core and the power window motor. The power window was taken care of by the dealer, once already. It is faulty still. Now we cannot safely drive the car, due to the possible blown head gasket. Two trusted mechanics have told us if we have to repair instead of replace, we really should replace the entire engine, a cost of 5600, with an expected life of 3 years. Haven been taken by the dealer, we still owe 5400. We cannot afford another car, or the repairs. Unfortunately, we have to find a way to afford the repairs and a rental. Thank you for your service.

I bought my 1995 pontiac grand am se,used in 2001, not even a month after having it, i had to replace the radiator. From there went my coolant line, a dealer part i had to pay a fortune for. Then i also have significant water damage that somehow gets into my carand i end up with puddles of water on the floor. My heater core went, replaced that. Then ball joints, replaced that. Then the recall on my ignition that i failed to recieve, was out with my husband and son for the day, got in to start my car and it wouldnt turn over. Took the key out, then all of a sudden the car started to turn over repeditily. Needless to say if my husband wasnt there my son and i could have died, i wouldnt have know what to do. My son was strapped in his car seat and i popped the hood, next thing i know smoke starts pouring into my car from the dash. So i grab my son out quickly as my husband popped the hood, and seen sparks and ripped the power cord off of the battery which stopped the sparks which was in the process of starting a fire. After replacing that, my power steering went, had to replace those lines. Then my coolant was low for no reason at all, the next week, two weeks after an oil change, oil light comes on. No oil in the engine. Put oil in and was fine for about an hour until car suddenly lost power and i had to pull of to the side of the road to find out that i have a blown head gasket plus other problems caused by this that caused my motor to no longer be in running order. I still owe $2000 on my car and was told today by numerous specialists that this car with the blown head gaskets is a known problem in these cars, and for some reason gm fails to acknowledge this and lets these cars remain on the road. You need to do something. So now i have no car with a baby, and a major problem. Like i said you need to fix this problem.

My head lights went completely out while i was driving in the dark and would not come back on.the multi-function switch went out on it.i almost wrecked due to this malfunction.(high/low beam dimmer switch)i now have it in a garage getting fixed.

Loss of headlights due to a dimmer pack failure.dealer/manufacturer were not notified at this time. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

The original headlight switch malfunctioned and i did not have any dash lights or tail-lights. The second switch malfunctioned too and the headlights now go out when i try to cycle them from high beam to low beam or don't come on until i cycle them again.

The head lights keep going out when you turn them on.they also go out while you are going down the road. Might be a defective switch.to get the lights to come back on you have to switch from dime to bright and back to dime.

Headlight switch on these vehicles are of a bad design or have a wire in the wrongplace (causing it to get cut) . The headlights can go out at any time, possibly causing a crash. I have talked to other grand am owners and they too are having or have had a problem similar to mine.

I don't have tail lights/dash lights.

Automatic transmission failed twice, and abs brakes were replaced four times. In addition, engine valve cover gasket leaks oil , and tail lights hold water, replaced four times.

Intake manifold gasket leak. Car had 55,000 original miles.piston slap also begun to occur.transmission had problems, only revs to 4k rpm, will not go higher than 4k rpm.

At highway speed, the vehicle suddenly shifted into neutral.

1. The transmission slipped into neutral at highway speed in close traffic, causing loss of control to escape collision with adjacent vehicles.the car is totalled.we have found a technical service bulletin #677164 feb 1997 from alldata listing this defect but we are not aware of any action taken by the mfg to recall or remedy the defect.2.the front seats in this and other gm coupes of this type have defective seat back locks.this defect prevents the seats from staying locked in an upright position during a collision. Thereby, allowing the driver and front passenger to be propelled forward and allowing anyone or anything in the rear seat to add additional crumpling impact on the front passengers.

A fuse blew that caused transmission and air conditioner compressorto go out. Took to dealer, and they replaced fuses. But,problem still exists.

When driving at 65mphand without any prior warning transmission went out. Vehicle has been in the shop twice, and the vehicle is back in shop again. Dealer can't determine the problem.

Transmission jerked when shifting from park to reverse at first, then an extremely loud whining noise @ 15 - 20 mph. Had a local garage listen to vehicle which inturn they told me that the transmission was in need of replacement or a complete rebuild. I called airport transmission in rochester n.y and they rebuilt it for a sum of $1,866.24.

Would have knocking under the vehicle when changing gears.also, there would be some loose wires that would need to be placed on the battery to get vehicle to start. The brake lights come on at the wrong time. Vehicle also will be squeaking. The lights fail to work properly because the electrical system is not working. Have taken vehicle to arbitration. The dealership was suppose to do repairs on the problems, but failed to do so. Problems still exist.

Automatic transmission operated erratically.

We have had minor problems with our since we bought it in oct., 1998 then in nov., 1998 our daughter was in a car accident. She was driving down a hill, going through an inter-section when a young man ran the stop sign to her left then she was thrown sideways. There was damage to the front-end. After getting the car back more problems would start but disappear. There was a problem with the car not shifting and making an undiscribable noise. Attempted to have it looked at while we were visiting in another state but they were busy. There has been other times when i felt a strange vibration under myfeet on the passenger side but it would disappear.then act up several other times but once again stop. Last week, my daughter was driving when she heard a loud pop, she stopped and checked to see if she had a flat tire, she couldn't tell where the sound had come from. Everything was fine. She continued to drive a short distance, a couple of blocks, she began to hear a noise that sounded like something was being dragged. She pulled into another parking lot, turned off the car, got out and checked. Nothing appeared wrong. She put the car into reverse , the same noise that was undiscribable from the earlier time began again, it would not change gear type sound. She pulled forward, the noise would not stop. She then completely stoppedand turned off the car and called us at home. When we got the car home, my husband checked all of the fluids and determined something must be wrong with the transmission. The next day he drove it with all of the same problems to a nearby transmission station but due to otherreasons decided to have it towed to our dealership. They test drove it and called my husband at work. They couldn't find anything wrong at first. They suggested tearing down the transmission after talking to my husband. I then received a phone call statingthe two mechanics had never seen so much metal schavings in a transmission. I asked if the accident had caused this?

Brakes failed when car sat all day or overnight and i would just start to move at no more than 10 mph. The first three times it happened i could pump up the brakes until they would begin to hold. The last time the brakes would not pump up, and i had to let the car roll slow enough to bump into a curb and throw it into park. The last time car was undrivable. Dealers service manager came out and attempted to drive the car and brakes failed. After hearing the "clanging' noice i have complained about since january, he diagnosed the problem as the abs malfunction. This was confirmed at the service center and the abs motor pak was replaced at a cost to owner of $160. Gm and dealer picked up balance of repair costs. Dealer confirmed the original problem in january 1999 was the abs and not master cylinder--never was the master cylinder.the warning lights never came on and the sensors never revealed the problem on the diagnostic testing.

I have been having an intermittent problem with the brakes on my 1995 pontiac grand am.occasionally, when applying the brakes i hear a rapid clicking sound and the brake pedal immediately releases and goes to the floor.at that point the car is without brakes, an obviously unsafe and unacceptable situation.i have taken the car to the local pontiac dealership ( master pontiac buick gmc) twice for this problem.they have told me that they cant duplicate the problem and are therefore unable to fix the car.when i spoke with the service manager he agreed that the clicking sound that precedes the loss of braking could indicate a problem with a relay.however he insists that they cant diagnose a problem with a relay until it fails completely.i sincerely doubt that i am the only person owning a 1995 pontiac grand am who has ever had this braking problem.

The brake system fails with the pedal going soft to the floor.when the problem fixes itself the brakes are still soft and then you have the brakes to the floor and the system slams on the brakes. This only happens at speeds less than 15 mph, all abs sensors have been changed and it still happens.abs light comes on dash, but tech's can't find a problem. When slow backingyou can hear brakes working though your not touching them.fell free to contact at numbers listed for additional information or to give insight as to problem as tech's can't figure it out.*mr*nlm*dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*730195

During inclement weather no response from the brakes and anti- lock braking system.

The brake system on this car has had problems from day one, at approx. 3,000 mi. The abs system light came on and was "repaired" under warranty.at approx. 5,000 mi.
