My brother's (john sturgill) 1993 pontiac grand am caught on fire and burned to the ground with the ignition off. My brother had just driven the car home from work. He turned off the ignition went into his home. Just 10 mintues later his wife saw smoke coming by the window. They immediately walked outside and saw the car completely engulfed in flames. They called the fire department to put out the fire but the car burned to the ground. The fire damaged the outer vinyl siding on 2 sides of the house, damaged a brand new carport, completely burneda 2 year old riding lawn mower and destroyed a storage building with over $2,000 in personal belongings. I have never seen a car burn that quickly and with that much force. It was the scariest day of my life.if my brother and his wifehad driven 10 more minutes theywouldn't be here with me today.i shudder the thought that somewhere there are people still driving 1993 pontiacs with their lives at risk also.
The engine compartment got fire unexpectedly with no electrical problem before incident.smell electrical burning after the incident.there was no fuel or other leaking.total loss after three minutes of quick extinguished by using fire exhinguishers.insurance declared totaled loss.the parts showed a lot of flammable plastic parts and wirings.this is not proper designed as all the wirings were intergrated in one cable.

After starting the ignition, i noticed smoke coming from fuse box, burning plastic dripped onto the carpet, igniting entire interior.fire department arrived, put out fire.total loss.no previous electrical problems.
A fusable link failed in the ignition system due to an electrical short, thereby ignitingthe cablesleading to the starter, resulting in a fire.

I bought a used 1993 pontiac grand am from missouri motors in poplar bluff missouri.i began to notice that this car was using antifreeze faster than it was using gasoline!i found an article in consumer reports magazine that says 1992 and 93 grand ams have a problem with a coolant leak, and that i can possibly get it repaired for free.i took my car to blackwell baldwin in poplar bluff mo. (the g.m. Dealer)they said that my car matched up perfectly with the cars gm was fixing for free:all exept for the vehicle identification number.this is total bull!my car is the exact same model, and the exact same year with the exact same engine and the exact same problem as the cars g.m. Is fixing!is this legal?is their an attorney in my state who specializes in lemon vehicles?the used car dealer i purchased the car from never told me about the problem, and they had to have known, because the antifreeze ends up in the oil.blackwell baldwin said the car is not safe to drive in this condition, and i want to know what i can do to get g.m. To fix their lemon.

My vehicle has no dents or rust and the body is in very good condition, but it has not been driven for months because i do not want to inflict any additional engine damage.i find an indication of water on my dipstick.

Note:the vin i listed is correct.however, the other information such as engine size, cylinders, etc. May be incorrect).i am the owner of a 1993 pontiac grand am, vin #[xxx].presently, my vehicle has a cracked cylinder head which has caused coolant to leak out over the engine and everywhere else under the hood.there is a horrible odor emitted and the oil light repeated flicks on and off even though there is sufficient oil.the vehicle has stalled out on me and chugs along like it is not getting gas properly when i try to accelerate.the plugs were also getting wet with coolant which was also why my vehicle kept stalling out.the technician who examined my vehicle found a service bulletin (no. 57-61-26a) in which he felt my vehicle should be covered.i then took my vehicle to the dealer, along with a copy of this bulletin to repair the damage.i have now been told that my vehicle will not be covered by the dealer and that the cost for repair is approximately $4,000.i was told that my vin is not included in the series of vin numbers listed in the bulletin.i am looking for help to determine if any other bulletins have been issued, after the original, that would be inclusive of my vehicle's vin.i find it extremely hard to swallow that my vehicle has every thing wrong with it that is listed in the bulletin and other vehicles with the same problems are being repaired at no cost and just because my vehicle's numbers don't match, i have to pay enormously.i would also like to know who determines what vehicle numbers will be included in the bulletins.i hope that someone can help met out.i am presently financially unable to pay forthe repairs necessary to get my vehicle running again.at the same time i cannot be without a vehicle since i have a four-year old that i must transport back and forth before and after i return fromwork.your assistance in any way possible would be greatly appreciated.thank you.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u

Problem occurred after used car warranty expired. Rotors look as though they were dipped in acid, all rusty and flaking. Braking was as though stopping on ribbed pavement. Purchased car used at a dealer in winston-salem nc. It was a trade in from a driver from ny. The dealer gave no admission of seeing the problem, and was no help. Efforts to contact gm went unanswered. We have replaced pads 3 times and rotors once. Rotors now look just like they did 4 years ago, and performance is like stopping on ribbed pavement again. Need to know if there is a recall of defective rotors or such. My wife is afraid to go far with them in this condition. We can't afford right now to go through another rotor/ brake replacement again. Please help. Thank you.

The right side electrical door lock doesn't work at any time. The door lock originally worked when i got the car, however, tore up a few months later.i did not buy the car new so i didn't know if the manufacturerwas liable, but it is worth checking into. I know of several other grand am owners who are experiencing the same problems plus inginition which i have not experience yet. I was just concerned what might happen next that could be more serious than what we are dealing with.i didn't think much about this particular problem until confiring with others dealing with the same problems. So i looked to see if my vechicle and others had ever had a recall and found there was a recall in sept. 1993. I would like a response concerning these problems and if anything could be done about them. Or if it is just for first time owners.sincerely, buford mcintosh
