Tire pressure sensor goes off and the tires are good. Airbag sensor also goes off. Indications failure.
When my wife was driving our son to daycare the srs airbag light came on in our 2009 pontiac g8 with only 31k on it. We brought it a local dealer and they read the codes and they came back as u0170 and b0081. Told us it will be over $400.00 for parts and around $300.00 in labor since this is not covered under the powertrain warranty which the car still has as this time. We would be stuck paying for it. These items should not wear out and is a safety issue that gm knows about and has done nothing about it. Since this srs light is on it makes the car unsafe to drive as it shuts the airbags off that are mandatory since 1998. Now with the state inspection coming up soon (not sure if it passes with the srs light on) the car will have to continue to sit here in the driveway as it is unsafe to put my wife & son in until he have a extra $900.00 to fix the problem.gm should have a recall on this as they know of the problem its not a handful of cars its hundreds.
After hearing about fellow g8 owners experiencing an air bag fault light, i was not surprised to see my light come on after starting it last week. I have the dreaded passenger presence module fault codes b0081 and u0170. I know that gm had previous air bag issues and had a recall on the g8 and i had that recall done as soon as i was able to. I would like to see gm look more into this problem because i hear more and more owners are having this pop up with their cars. This is a serious safety issue as now i don't drive my car until i can get this fixed. I called the dealership and found out that this would be totally on me to pay for this correction. I thought safety related issues should be under a warranty no matter what. I have been told that gm knows there is a problem because when i go to order the part that is required, the part number has been changed to a higher/different number than the original. This clarifies that not only does gm know which part to replace to solve the issue, but they created a new and updated module to solve the issue; clarifying that they do acknowledge there is a faulty part.
The srs system is throwing dtc b0012 0d: driver steering wheel air bag deployment loop stage 1 high resistance dtc. This is a known issue with this car and is not a covered repair. Owners of the vehicle should not have to pay to have functioning airbags in their vehicle. While this code is on, the entire airbag system will not function in the car.
I started my car and the airbag fault light is on. I did some research on this and i see mamy mamy people are having the same problem.i am not spending over a thousand dollars on a problem gm supposedly fixed with a recall already--how convenient the warranty is expired. Perhaps since so many people have the same complaints gm will do another recall and fix this for us.
Vehicle will suddenly throw abs/traction control/brake system/airbags failure notices; vehicle then goes into limp mode and the transmission locks into first gear. Has occurred 3 times, dealership unable to diagnose or repair. They have cleared all mil/dtc codes and re-flashed ecm 3 times. The problem has occurred once on the interstate in heavy traffic at 70mph and twice on city streets in rush hour traffic, with significant chance for accident/crash. When the vehicle exhibits this condition, loss of control occurs, as engine delivers no power to transmission and car is limited to 25mph maximum speed.
Onboard warning....air bag fault. When this appears the air bags will not activate during an accident..... Apparently this problem is extremely common in a lot of gm cars, even though a recall back in 2011 was supposed to have taken care of the problem. Perhaps they did not fix the problem properly in the first place. Gm should create another recall to diagnose and fix the problem permanently.
The airbag sensor comes on as soon as the car is started and never goes off. The air bags are deactivated during this time creating a safety issue.they will not inflate if you're in an accident.this seems to be a common problem with the airbag sensor under the passenger seat.a recall needs to be issued.
Started to drive the car and air bag light went on,with a chime sound. Call dealer and was told car was not under recall.
The contact owned a 2009 pontiac g8. While driving 52 mph, the contact crashed into the rear passenger side bumper of a vehicle that failed to yield. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the spine, ankles, neck, and right shoulder, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Passenger presence detection system failure disabling the system until the module/sensor is replaced. Dealer pricing is around $1000 to replace module/sensor.seems to be a known problem that gm isn't covering as a safety defect.
I've been reading through the complaints and it seems to be a broken record of "airbag" issues. Mine just started a week ago at 50,000+. After searching the internet, it appears the normal cost to maybe get it fixed over perhaps several visits is 1k+. How many complaints does it take to actually get a recall initiated? until then, why won't anyone do something to silence the loud annoying airbag alarm? it is very distracting, and i believe more of a safety issue than the possibility of the airbag not deploying. Somebody please help us.
Getting error code b0081 passenger presence module.welp heresme and 20k others thanks gm ur so nice to us.
Airbag light indicates airbag is off, even when 180lb adult passenger is present on seat. This continued for some time until the airbag fault light activated and indicated an issue with the passenger presence module. Gm wants $957 in order to fix the issue.
A month ago my passenger air bag light came on indicating there is an issue with the passenger air bag system. This occurs even when there is no one in the passenger seat. This completely disables the airbag system in my car for my passengers and i can no longer reliablytransport other passengers for fear of getting into an accident and the air bag not deploying. These parts are not normal mechanical pieces that wear and tear over the course of the cars life, and with a quote from the dealership of almost $1000.00 it is unreasonable for me to pay as this is a huge safety issue, not only to passengers but to myself as i am unsure if this will effect the drivers air bag system. I dont think its fair that with the car only being 12 years old that i should have to pay and replace a faulty air bag system, when this is a common issue with the 2009 pontiac g8. This needs to be a recall as it is unfair to ask anyone to replace a vital and important safety feature of the vehicle. This should not be something pontiac g8 owners should have to pay for out of pocket, and the manufacturer needs to realize that this is not a one off issue, but a common issue with owners of the 2009 pontiac g8. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer (gm) to fix this issue as it is a basic safety issue. The car would not be legally sold with this issue from the manufacturer, so why is it the owners responsibility to pay for gm (pontiacs) mistake? either with $1000.00 or their lives?
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that the airbag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that the front passengerā€™s side airbag sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 11v534000 (air bags) however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
My 2009 pontiac g8 gt with 75,082 miles starting having the air bag fault light show up during startup of the vehicle. This fault stayed illuminated at all times. I researched this fault on the internet, including pontiac forums, and found that there was a significant amount of other pontiac g8 owners that have had a similar fault. I found that the majority of the findings on the internet stated that the issue was the passenger presence module and/or sensor. On 6/18-/4, itook my g8 to the dealership for analysis. The dealership found that the failure was the passenger presence module (pn#92225595). The air bags in the vehicle will not function with this current fault.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that shortly after starting the vehicle, the air bag failure warning light illuminated. The contact reached out to the manufacturer and was informed that vin was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 153,000.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that after the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
In early 2015, with approximately 4500 miles on the car, a dash warning light began to illuminate. The icon that appears is related to faulty airbag, as well as, a visual message stating faulty airbag and also a beep to alert me when starting the car. Note, part of those miles on the car did not include a passenger in the front passenger seat.your nhtsa campaign id#11v534000 leads me to file this complaint and the fact that i still cannot find a recall on this dangerous safety issue.i am extremely concerned about this warning message and usage of the car has been limited for fear of airbag deployment. I cannot justify spending hundreds of dollars, as my findings have determined in research and also in conversation with a local gm dealer. My findings also confirm that this is a common issue for the pontiac g8. I feel this safety issue should be handled at the expense of gm.
Airbag fault comes on with a vehicle chime on the instrument panel. The light blinks a few times then stays on the screen for a random amount of time.this is not the first time it has happened. At this time i was driving on a local road around 45mph with no acceleration. I heard the chime and airbag light come on. It went a way after several minutes then came back on again for no reason.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that at start-up, the airbag default warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact proceeded to drive and noticed that the light was no longer on the instrument panel. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
Air bag fault warning on my hud, along with the corresponding light, comes on when it gets cold out. Every time it gets below about 35 degrees this light will come on and disable all of my air bags. This has happened ever since i have owned this car. I have consulted with my local gm dealership and the diagnosis indicated to replace the "passenger presence module". This fault disables the entire air bag system which is a safety critical component that should not fail as it disables the air bag system which could/would be life threatening in an accident. The air bag fault/passenger presence module failure should be considered for a recall, as this is not a mechanical component which is considered wear and tear over the life of the vehicle. This is absolutely required for the safety of all vehicle occupants.
Today i woke up and starting receiving the air bag fault error. Contacted my local gm dealership and was told it's the passenger side module that need to be replaced. They quoted me $1200 for parts and labor. This is a safety critical component that should not fail as it disables the air bag system which could be life threatening in an accident. It is my request to the nhtsa that this air bag fault and passenger presence module failure should be considered for a recall, as this is a costly repair and is not a mechanical component which wears and tears over the life of the vehicle, additionally it is absolutely required for the safety of the vehicle occupants.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 61,698.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. It was unknown if the vehicle was repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v534000 (air bags). The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000. The vin was not available.
When i got into the car to go to work, the srs airbag warning light came on, flashing and did not go off.i took it to the dealer a few days later and was given the codes u0170 and b0081, which apparently point to a defective passenger presence module.the purpose of this module is to sense if there is a passenger or not.apparently, since this module is bad, it threw the above codes and disables all airbags.in the event of an accident, no bags will deploy until this is fixed.i have just found out that this is a known issue with gm vehicles and upon further research, there are many reported issues with this.since this has been a federal requirement since 1998, this should be an issue that is covered under a recall if the car is out of warranty, as the sensors are not a normal wear item.while there has been no accident yet, this car is not safe to drive and with it being a known issue, gm should recall all vehicles with this issue.
The air bag system's passenger presence module failed while the pontiac g8 gt was at the gm dealer being repaired for a different problem.error codes were b0081 and u0170.the ppm was replaced by dealer's service technician with gm part number 92225595.the repair was not covered by any warranty even though this module is known to be a high-failure item due to a defective design.this is a dangerous defect which may cause the passenger-side airbag to fail to inflate in a crash.the vehicle should be recalled.
I purchased my g8 gt brand new in feb. 2009. In 2012 i had my passenger seat air bag light come on. I was aware of a recall and brought it to the dealer where i purchased my vehicle. They said that the problem was not part of the recall but as a one timecourtesy they will fix it. The light went off and i felt save driving my car. Well, march of 2014 my air bag light came on again. Now a different light. The first light said passenger side air bag. This time it says air bag fault. Again, i feel very unsafe driving my vehicle with this light on. I take it to the dealer where i purchased my vehicle again, and they inform me that it is not part of the recall and it will cost me $800.00 to replace whatever module that is broken. How many modules make up the compression of the air bag and how come air bag safety no matter which module or light isn't part of the recall? in addition to the air bag problem i also had problems in 2009-2011 with the sway bar bushings and mounts, front suspension, and a bad harmonic balance, lastly rotors warped often. I paid a lot of money for this car and expected maintenance for this vehicle to be costly at some point but not the safety equipment that gm should make sure is flawless before mass producing a death trap.
Typically on colder mornings when i start my car i get an airbag fault.about 30 to 45 minutes into my drive, the fault disappears.i have been reading that my airbags will not work properly while the system is in fault.this happened to me most recently this past thursday and also happened the two previous days.i have noticed again that it seems to happen during colder mornings.it has happened prior to this week on a number of occasions.the first 30 minutes of my commute is on rural roads but within the first 15 minutes, turns to stop and go driving.
The air bag fault light came on in our 2009 pontiac g8.the car has only 41,000 miles.why would air bag system fail?it has no accidents and low miles. Took to dealer "quality chevrolet in escondido california to have the codes read as my reader would not display them.dealer said they would diagnose it for $115.14.dealer kept it two days as they said they were too busy with gm ignition key recall and didn't have time to read the error codes.the second day, dealer said "bad news", you will need to pay us an additional $1,041.00 to replace the passenger seat presence module.total would be $1,156.14. They said all of the air bag system won't work while you have this error code.this is crazy.a safety system like this should not fail and it should not kill all the other air bags.i asked dealer for error codes and part number.the error codes are u0170 loss communication with passenger presence and b0081 passenger presence system.the part number is gm #92225595.i checked the internet and the price for new module from a gm parts seller with 1 year warranty is $262.50.i checked the web nhtsa and other sites and this failure is very common for this pontiac g8 vehicle.it should be covered by gm for free as a recall or warranty.plus, it should not disable all the other air bags in the vehicle.this is negligent and unsafe.plus, the dealer is taking huge profit on replacement fee.it took me 10 minutes to remove the module from under the passenger seat.why would the dealer "quality chevrolet in escondido california"be so greedy on safety item and charge $1,156.14 for replacing a $262.50 part that takes only 10 minutes to remove and 10 minutes to replace and 10 minutes to calibrate or program?this is pure greed and dealer is simply capitalizing on this major safety issue.
My vehicle was at a complete stop when we were struck from behind by a vehicle traveling at approximately 50 mph.the air bags did not deploy; instead, i received an "airbag fault" light and audible signal and the car filled with black smoke.thankfully, no one was injured in the accident.but if it had been a head-on collision and the air bags failed, i may not be here today to type this safety complaint.i read that many g8s were recalled for air bag faults, but mine was never on the list.
Airbag fault light goes on and off, seems this is not uncommon to this vehicle.light comes on when car is started and completes in safety check.
Went to start my vehicle yesterday, and soundly an airbag failure showed up in the driver info center.went online and this make and model has tons of other vehicles with the same issue, and they want to charge consumers a large amount of money to fix something that has never been used in my vehicle.they are trying to avoid the recall as it will cost them.this is straight unfair that they source cheap modules, and when failure occurs, sometimes multiple times after factory replacement of new sensors and modules, they stick it on the consumer.can you please help us consumers as this is not an isolated incident, and now i have no airbags in my vehicle because i cannot afford the amount they want to fix the module.please help us consumers and make them take responsibility for their decisions. Thank you
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8 gt. The contact stated that he received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 11v534000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. The technicians advised the contact that the sdm module failed and would prevent the air bags from deploying in the event of a crash. The vehicle was repaired under the recall but not for the sdm module. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 59,900. The vin was not available. Updated 02/09/12*ljupdated 02/13/12
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the front passenger's seat air bag system would have to be replaced and reprogrammed. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 11v534000 (air bags) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. While the vehicle was stationary, the "air bag fault" warning indicator illuminated without warning. The contact stated that the air bag sensor and module were faulty. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed where it was determined that the pps sensor and module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,600.
While driving around a curve, a deer ran out in front of the car and we swerved to miss it and ran off the road down into a deep ditch and hitting a drain tile. The entire front nose of the car is destroyed, the hood, and driver side front fender and door. None of the air bags deployed, causing my husband to hit the steering wheel and bust the windshield with his head. I had my seatbelt on but was injured also. Had my airbags deployed the way they are supposed to, these injuries may not have occurred at all. I now have a car that is more than likely totaled and hospital bills where we went to see a doctor the next day.
I was going over tsb and recalls and noticed there was an update for the airbag. Here is where the fun starts! my wife schedules an appointment with our local dealer and takes it in for the software flash. All good right? wrong! the service tech told her she needs to have the airbag module and sensor replaced at the tune of 1200.00 bucks and now a airbag light is constantly on. I told my wife to contact gm customer service, which she did last wednesday (04/02) and was assigned a case id and case worker which she explained the issue too and was told she would be called back with in 24 hours.. Well guess what, haven't heard back yet. She has made numerous attempts to contact them with no calls returned.
While driving car on highway it started showing air bag fault warning on the center console screen and corresponding light came on. Consulted with local gm dealership and diagnosis indicated need to replace the "passenger presence module". The cost quoted by gm dealership is $855 (total), for parts and labor. This fault disables the air bag system (passenger air bags for sure, i am not sure about driver air bag system)this is a safety critical component that should not fail as it disables the air bag system which could be life threatening in an accident. It is my request to the nhtsa that this air bag fault and passenger presence module failure should be considered for a recall, as this isa costly repair and is not a mechanical component which wears and tears over the life of the vehicle, additionally it is absolutely required for the safety of the vehicle occupants.
Airbag default alarm light.
While driving normally on highway, airbag system failure light activated at 68000 miles, which disabled airbag system on the car. Gm dealer read airbag fault code which indicated clockspring fault. (p/n 92184056) dealer reported this is a common issue for this vehicle. They replaced with a new clockspring, (with a new p/n 92234063). Cost $800, and any affinity i had for gm. Airbags components should not be wear items on vehicles.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8.the contact stated that the air bag light continuously illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 52,000... Updated 10/27/14
Air bag fault occurred and displayed in two places on my dash when i started my car to go to work. I had not driven this car in a month and just a few weeks prior to the last time it was driven i had another airbag recall performed. Took car to the dealership to find out the passenger sensor module had a short circuit in it. Unknown to me all the vehicle airbags were disabled with this fault per the service tech. It seems terrible unsafe to disable all airbags for a passenger sensing module. It should fail active rather than fail passive for safety. I have also found numerous reports of this module failing near the time of warranty expiration not necessarily after. Though mine was after by date not mileage.
I have an drivers side air bag failure issue, have had it at the dealer and they tell me that a missing clip is causing the air bag to malfunction. I have seen that i am not the only one with this issue. I fear that the air bag could blow up in my face as i'm driving down the road at 65 mph!!the only thing the dealer has to offer is replace the airbag at 1100.00. I believe this is a safety issue and gm should take care of their problem.
The airbag warning light turned on at approximately 55,000 miles in mid-december 2014.my mechanic has determined the problem to be the airbag clock spring, but cannot acquire the part from general motors or local dealerships because of a nationwide parts shortage.my airbag is still malfunctioning, and after two months it still cannot be repaired because gm has failed to stock the part in sufficient quantity.i don't know if this technically falls under nhtsa, but a manufacturer that won't stock a critical airbag component for a vehicle that seems prone to airbag failure is a serious safety concern.
Vehicle sometimes displays airbag fault after system check during startup. A quick internet search reveals this is a very common problem. Also the air bags i'm told are not functioning when the car displays this message. Error does not reappear after vehicle is turned off and back on again.
I have a concern about the air bag system on my 2009 pontiac g8. It has a sensor on the passenger seat which send a signal to the air bag module to deploy if a person is sitting on the seat. If there is no person sitting there,it will not deploy the passenger air bag. The issue is that the sensor stopped working. So now because of a sensor that is under the passenger seat, all the airbags on the car will not deploy if i get into an accident. I feel that such a system should not fail so prematurely. My car has 45000 miles on it, and as you know its not everyday that a passenger sits on that seat. Also, this is not an isolated incident. Many other pontiac g8 owners have had this happen to them. But because it happened early on their vehicles they were repaired under warranty. So did not filed a complaint. Please look into this as i feel my safety is jeopardy.
My 2009 pontiac g8 gt with 71,082 miles starting having the air bag fault light show up during startup of the vehicle. This fault stayed illuminated at all times. I researched this fault on the internet, including pontiac forums, and found that there was a significant amount of other pontiac g8 owners that have had a similar fault. I found that the majority of the findings on the internet stated that the issue was the passenger presence module and/or sensor. On 6/18-/4, i took my g8 to the dealership for analysis. The dealership found that the failure was the passenger presence module (pn#92225595). The air bags in the vehicle will not function with this current fault. The cost to repair the issue quoted by the dealership is $850.00.
At startup, vehicle displays message "airbag fault" and airbags are inoperable. Many others with gm vehicles have similar issues and it has been traced to a failed passenger seat sensor (gm part number 92225595). This is a widespread problem and is a safety concern as the fault causes the airbag to become inoperative.
Air bag warning light is on continuously. I'm sure it's the same seat sensor issue everyone else is having with the g8. This is a serious safety issue that should be corrected via a recall.
"air bag fault" message is displayed in the info center on the dash and air bag warning light is illuminated. Codes u0170 and b0081 were read at dealership.parts #92225594 (module) and #92220398 (sensor) are required at an installed cost of approximately $1100.the vehicle has 70,000 miles on it.entire air bag system is disabled due to this malfunction.research indicates this is a very common malfunction on these vehicles.
Started my g8 today and received air-bag fault warning light and alarm.my car has less than 75k miles and has never been in an accident.i have noticed within the past few months that the passenger side airbag indicator on the rear-view mirror seems to go off during system checkout even when there is a passenger present.but now, with the alarm and warning lighti am not sure it is safe to drive.many internet blogs indicate this problem is widespread.the repair indicated costs over $1000, including parts.it seems a recall should have been issued long ago for such a critical system on a vehicle with relatively low mileage.
Our 2009 pontiac g8 gt with 54,000 miles starting having the air bag fault light show up during startup of the vehicle.this fault stayed illuminated at all times.i researched this fault on the internet, including pontiac forums, and found that there was a significant amount of other pontiac g8 owners that have had a similar fault.i also found on the internet that there was a large amount of gm products that has the same fault.i found that the majority of the findings on the internet stated that the issue was the passenger presence module and/or sensor. On 4-22-14, we took our g8 to the dealership for analysis.the dealership found that the failure was the passenger presence module (pn#92225595) and passenger presence sensor (pn#92220398). The air bags in the vehicle will not function with this current fault.the cost to repair the issue quoted by the dealership is $1,193.94.i decided to speak with gm customer representative via phone.gm customer service responded to my concern with a negotiated cost down to $500 + tax.i do appreciate the reduction in cost but feel that this is a known safety issue and that there is alot of history on this issue since 2007 (per the internet research) and i feel that this issue needs to be corrected immediately.

Airbag failure light at 56k miles seems to be a known problem beeps everytime key is turned on and never goes away.
Received notice in the mail for two open recalls on my vehicle. I work in service department of a motorcyle dealership so i am familiar with recall procedure. I contacted the dealership and was given an appointment date.i asked if all parts were in stock and informed that they were. I show up to my appointment and couple hours later while im back at work i am informed that parts were not in and they would have to reschedule me for another appointment.get set up for my next appointment drop my car off head back to work. Hours later im informed car is ready for pickup. I get there and one recall was performed which was the seat belt recall, which still leaves the airbag recall yet to be performed. I was contacted by the service manager some time later and he apologized and that was it still waiting to this day to be let known something about the airbag recall.
Air bag fault light made its appearance. It is an unfair burden to those of us who bought one of gm's 36,000 miles cars.
Air bag fault.
As i turned my vehicle on 07/24/2014 the air bag fault came on haven't called the dealer yet but have read the other complaints and seems there are starting to become more and more problems with this safety issue. Just wonder how many others that don't actually file a complaint and just have it fixed at a very high price as seen on the complaints. Will be calling the dealer today.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph attempting to engage the brakes, the vehicle jerked and veered to the left without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the rotors and calipers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.updated 12/19/14 updated 09/28/2015
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8 gt.while driving various speeds, the contact felt a very rough vibration in the vehicle.the gm manufacturer stated that they were aware of the failure; however, there was nothing they could do to assist at that time.the dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and it was normal for a 6.0 liter engine.the contact was concerned with driving the vehicle in the snow due to the vibrations.the failure mileage was 11 and current mileage was 11,500. Updated 01-26-09 the vehicle also had a rough idle. The consumer stated the vehicle has poor fuel management.the air bag light illuminated.updated 01/26/09.
Took 2009 pontiac g8 gt in for airbag recall to reprogram airbag timing. Two days later the airbag light came on, contacted service department as it cant be a coincidence that they just worked on the airbag system and now the car has a airbag issue. They wanted $149 to re-diagnose a problem that they created in my opinion. Doing a quick internet search of the problem, several others have run into the same scenario of the light coming on after having the recall performed. I refuse to pay the diagnostic fee and still have not had the issue resolved. Gm needs to step up to the plate and issue another recall for this issue.
Air bag fault light is on.2009 chevy airbags were recently recalled.is this the same airbag system?
Seat occupancy sensor does not work properly. When my wife sits in the passenger seat (weight 125lbs) the airbag does not turn on. I took the vehicle into the dealership and the service advisor said it was in normal tolerances and it could be the way she is positioned in the seat. The loaner car i was driving (2011 cadillac dts) the air bag indicator came on and stayed on the entire time she was sitting in the passenger seat. I believe this is a huge safety liability. I have been on the pontiac g8 forum website and other owners have complained about the same thing.

I am the 2nd owner of this vehicle i bought it with 20,000 miles and now it has 41,000. The car has had 5 recalls since i have owned it which i understand is not a bad thing cause they are fixing the problems, but when the problem keeps existing and gm says "ill give you a year free maintenance for the trouble" come on, i have 3 kids that ride in the car,and parts that don't belong on the car because they don't make them anymore,(wiring harness) the engine light keeps coming on and now i have no high beams , gm response to that was "we will put new bulbs in for you to see if that works" hello when both lights go out the same time and the engine light comes oni may not be an expert but i can sayi think there just might be a problem, but not to gm. I put the risk of 3 kids lives everyday i drive the car wondering if the car is going to get me from point a to point b because the wiring harnessis just pieces of other cars put together to make it work. With my car in the shop again now as we speak, gm does not care about safety of my kids or myself, the car doesn't need to be on the road but im not the original owner and they don't want to do anything about it but offer me a year free maintenance, it wouldn't be a bad offer if i needed my oil changed or tires rotated, but that's not the problem, all 10 recalls on the car have been electrical and with the transmission. My question to gm is why sell a car you cannot fix with the right parts or make it right by taking the car back ????i ama very unhappy customer!!!

A tapping noise was heard when the engine was running - whether the car was at idle or moving. The tapping would not cease. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they discovered that the #2 valve lifter had collapsed into the camshaft and damaged the camshaft. All 16 lifters, camshaft and associated gaskets were replaced. Had we continued driving the car, more defective lifters would have collapsed, causing the engine to seize. At that point, the engine would have to be replaced. The lifters are defective in all gm cars with this engine (see service bulletin 10-06-01-007d).
Hello,i am writing to you today to inform you of a common and known issue with all gm ls engines that come with active fuel management (afm) or displacement on demand (dod). The lifters in the engine begin to fail somewhere after 40,000 miles - with this particular issue occurring in my own vehicle at just over 61,000 miles. If you were to google "ls dead lifter", "ls lifter failure" or "gm piston slap", the issues arises. I have contacted the pontiac division at gm to complain about this, but they said that there is "nothing they can do since the engine is no longer covered under their warranty". This is a bs and should be considered a recall if it is a known issue and from what i read on a couple forums, gm has even sent a tsb (technical service bulletin) to their dealers in the past in regards to the issue on this engine for several different gm models.symptoms and noise on the "dead lifter" issue: you will hear a ticking or knocking sound coming from the engine itself upon start up. Noise tends to be louder on a cold start up and will gradually soften (but not completely go away) once the engine is warm. The ticking or knocking noise continues during idling and revving, speeding up as you press on the accelerator.

2009 pontiac g8. Auto veers to the right, need to keep pull ing down on left side of steering wheel to go straight. Gm rep claims g8 was made to pull to the right if driver fell asleep preventing head on collisions. Three dealers unable to correct problem. They offered to give us 4 new tires and extended warranty 60,000 add. Miles, for a car that they claim has nothing wrong with it. The car has been in shops for 28 days, since 3-26-09 purchase. Replacing strut bearings, balance & rotated tires, aligned front end, with no change. Took the car to 2 other pontiac dealers drove & found it veered to right and both attempted to correct the problem without success. Also engine lightcomes on, gas cap vibrates loose by itself. Dealer tightened cap and did smoke test which should no leaks. Car requires new gas cap.

Transmission fails to downshift immediately after accelerating, leaving driver in vulnerable position of being slow to merge into traffic as anticipated. This action is a daily occurrence since car purchased.
The transmission on my 2009 g8 (6k miles) is very rough shifting especially when cold.when trying to stop, the transmission frequently hesitates to down shift, remaining in the higher gear. If the driver doesn't pay attention and apply constant pressure on the brakes, the car will continue to move forward into the intersection uncommanded. If the driver lets off the brake before the downshift occurs, the car will accelerate dangerously.the dealer applied a technical service bulletin on this issue before i took deliver, but it has not resolved the issue.* * *this is a dangerous, potentially life threatening problem! * * *

Automatic transmission fails to immediately downshift when accelerating to merge into traffic, leaving car and driver in precarious predicament with today's highway speeds. Transmission also causes a vibration when speed decreases and causes dod to be implemented. Dealer has no solution.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8, with a 6 speed transmission.he can shift from first to second gear only when driving between 15 to 20 mph. Consequently the vehicle would shift from 1st to 4th gear. A technician from the dealer stated that the failure was a normal characteristic for that model type. The pontiac manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 6,000.updated 12/22/09. Ljthe consumer stated the second gear is locked out from about 10 mph to 25 mph. Which is very dangerous when trying to merge from a stop in heavy traffic. There isn't time to figure out which gear to select after attempting to shift tosecond gear. The vehicle looses momentum, the engine rpm's drop to an idle. The consumer was told it is a characteristic of the vehicle. Updated 12/29/09.

Driving up a road and the seat belt stuck and started to pull in tighter and tighter where it left marks across daughters body. Purchased vehicle new on 2/28/2009 from local gm dealer.multiple failures of gm part #92207874.other failures occurred on 8/11/10 (23,629); 10/27/10 (26,082); and, 7/22/11 (35,300).communicated my concerns about multiple failures, other causes, and possible latent defect in design to gm customer service team as early as october 2010 (gm case #71-884084012) and again in august 2011 (gm case #71-979563998).failure of part precludes operator adjustment of seat while car door is closed and if left unaddressed will likely cause chaffing of the under seat wiring harness, shorting out the electrical system.on september 2, 2011 gm customer service team states "gm does not see this as a manufacturer's concern, the seat is designed properly for daily use, and is outside gm factors of control."all replacements have been covered under 3yr/36k mile warranty, but no correction has been made to preclude future failures.similar failure of other g8 owners is evident on internet forum web boards such as:http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23189http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30721currently new car warranty has expired and part is now covered by only 12m/12k mile "repair" warranty.given history of failures of this part i expect other failures to continue to occur.also filed same complaint with texas state attorney general and texas motor vehicle board on this same date.
My husband and i both own 2009 pontiac g8s, and the panel that surrounds the power seat button on the side of the driver seat has broken not once but twice on his vehicle and once on mine. The first time we had to pay to have it repaired, it only lasted a little more than a year. We returned to the dealer to be told it wasn't covered because it was 1 month more than the 12 mo. Warranty covered. We have contacted the gm 1-800 #, to be told by customer service ,twice they would not help. Because there was no recall. We feel we should not have to pay again, since this same part has broken 3 times, and in 1 family with exact same vehicles and same broken part. It is a faulty part, there is lot of talk all over the web about it, so i don't know how you cannot admit it. You should help!look forward to your response.

2009 pontiac g8gt with 13000 miles needs all four rotors turned. Unbelievably poor material quality for a high performance vehicle.

2009 pontiac g8. Auto veers to the right, need to keep pull ing down on left side of steering wheel to go straight. Gm rep claims g8 was made to pull to the right if driver fell asleep preventing head on collisions. Three dealers unable to correct problem. Gm rep states that the g8 was intentionally designed to veer to the rightif driver fell asleep, which could cause car to go on sidewalk, etc. And injure people. Gm refuses to repurchase vehicle.
My 2009 pontiac g8gt with 14,000 miles has had a front end shake in it since new. Have had it back to the dealer 8 times to have it fixed to no avail. He car has started to wander back and forth while driving on the highway so i decided today i was inspecting it to see if i could find anything. The last time i had it to the dealer i told them i could her the front strut bushings going bad this was about 1000 miles ago. Today during my inspection i found that both front strut bushings are bad. I was checking a couple of forum boards today and this seems to be a very common problem for this car and pontiac an gm are well aware of it. Why haven't they are anybody made gm step up and fix this before somebody get hurt or killed?
The contact owns 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that while driving between 50-70 mph the steering wheel would vibrate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the wheels were realigned. The contact was also informed that the factory wheels were never correctly aligned, causing the tread on the tires to rapidly wear. The failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where the contact was advised to replace the wheels. The wheels were replaced, but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer where the contact was advised to replace wheels and tires. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 25,000.
Above about 40 mph the steering wheel has a shake and the dealer keeps telling me that they do not feel it, seems like they want nothing to do with it. This is a widespread problem that seems like gm wants nothing to do with. This is a link to a 30 page thread of people complaining about the problem and almost every person that is having the issue has not been resolved. Rear passenger door latch failed allowing the door to open by itself when stopping the vehicle.
Door latches goes out on vehicles and the door don't stay shut. The door will flap open will driving, have to use a seat belt around the inside handle and then connect to the seat buckle to keep door close. I have 2 g8s that these have failed on. I think this is a major safety concern that someone can fall out of the vehicle .
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle pulled to the left and vibrated. The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. While driving at 55 mph, the contact heard a noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the front passenger's side ball joints and control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.
This car clearly has lca (lower control arm) issues. I had mine replaced 10k miles ago. They are noisy again. With just a little research you will find that around 80% of g8 owners have front end suspension issues.why isn't gm recalling this?
While making a some what sharp turn to the left on a freeway at approx 60 miles per hour (legal speed for situation) noted vibration in right front suspension.it felt like the tire was attempting to come off the rim..i backed off and the problem dissipated.i took the car to the dealership and it was determined that the right front rear lower support arm had severe play in the ball joint.the same issue is present with less wear in the front left lower control arm.the play has caused premature wear in the right front tire.tires have been rotated regularly at the dealership at suggested 5,000 mile time frame.the dealership did not detect any problem in the suspension during any of the scheduled maintenances.considering the mileage on the car there is unreasonable wear occurring in suspension part creating a dangerous situation.
Front end knocking noise over bumps
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle wandered out of the lane. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated the failure was contributed to the front lower control arm and loose ball joints. The vehicle had not been repaired. The vehicle was also taken to a dealer who was unable to duplicate a problem. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
I recently encountered a clunking/knocking noise in the front drivers side of the vehicle when going over small bumps, as well as severe shaking/vibration when braking and steering. This made it difficult to control the vehicle, especially at higher speeds and on freeway curves. Since the vehicle is no longer under warranty, i took the vehicle to a trusted local mechanic. They informed me that the front lower control arms needed replacement. After doing some additional research, it appears there were both a service bulletin and a customer satisfaction campaign for issues with the g8 suspension, specifically the lower control arms. These issues included problems with the rubber boot over the front end lower control arm ball joint, which may become dislodged or torn compromising the seal. Moisture inside the ball joint seal could cause corrosion, shortening the service life of the lower control arm. My local mechanic completed the repairs and also did a front-end alignment. They supplied me with the defective lower control arms, which showed evidence of the torn rubber boot on both arms and corrosion. After contacting with gms customer service, they are not even interested in discussing further because i did not take it to a dealership (who charge over $1,000 for these repairs). I even offered to send them the defective parts, but they weren't interested. They used the excuse that the recall only included certain vin's and mine wasn't included, yet i had the same exact part failure and symptoms as other vehicles included in the recall.
While driving the vehicle the front suspension shakes and clunks while driving at any speed. Both ball joins have tears in the rubber boots which i'm sure causes water and road debre to enter ball joint and corrode. This is a huge safety concern for me and when a ball joint lets go it can be fatal sending the car in any unchosen direction. Please note this is happening to every single pontiac g8 owner i've come across. This is life threatening, ball joint lets go on the highway and the car will go into a roll.thank you for your time and consideration
Front suspension: control and caster arms: ball joints.
After only 11,000 miles my front right ball joint was bad and a wobble was noticed when braking hard.dealer had to replace the lca to fix it.this is a safety issue with the premature failure and could eventually cause injuries if a more solid fix isn't completed.

The 2009 pontiac g8 has a potential problem with failure of the ball joints on the front end. At 16000km the ball joints were falling out on my pontiac g8. This could have lead to a control failure of the car and a major accident on the highway. This is not an isolated incident as the dealer has stated there have been several other cars with the same problem. I consider this car to be unsafe, and feel it should have a recall on it.
Front suspension: control and caster arms: ball joints.
My pontiac g8 gt has experienced premature and potentially dangerous wear and failure from all four of the front ball joints -- upper and lower control arms.gm has stated that this wear is from a bad "boot design", but there are numerous vehicles with multiple boot replacements and control arm replacements that have then gone bad -- once again.this therefore points to the ball joint design as being the primary cause of the premature wear and failure!there needs to be a recall on all four of the control arms for this vehicle before someone gets killed by a faulty ball joint breaking!
At 23,000 miles my lower front right ball joint went bad and a wobble was noticed when braking hard. Dealer informed me that ball joint was bad and this a common problem and some vehicles have been recalled but my car was not on the recall or campaign list. The ball joint problem is a well documented problem within the g8 community but is not being taken seriously by the dealers or gm. This is a huge safety issue, this problem could eventually cause serious injuries. They have redesigned replacement control arms/ball joints to correct the problem but they have limited inventory. This recall should be made public to inform the consumer of the potential failure and destruction that could take place. This recall should be opened up to all g8's not just be vin number. Obviously there are more cars that have defective parts that are not being included in this recall.

In april 2009 my pontiac g8 began making groaning and cracking noises.observation indicate that noise is coming from the front of the car and is most prevalent when the car is warm.research on the numerous websites indicate that this is not an uncommon problem.unfortunately, the dealers don't seem to understand the severity of the problem and the potential safety impact of losing control of the automobile.so far the most common response seems to be to ignore it or provide a piece meal solution.i believe it is only a matter of time before the steering is effected and an accident occurs. It seems the gt models are most effected with no mention of the v6 or the gxp editions having problems.the gxp has improved front suspension and the v6 is lighter.it may be that the g8 gt version has a engine that is too heavy for the front suspension and ultimately causes a degradation of the suspensions performance.i have had the car into the dealer three different times and so far the only thing they have done is replace a tie rod.the noise abated but now continues.so far there have been no safety consequences because i tend to baby the car because i don't trust the front suspension.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8.the struts have been repeatedly repaired.he has taken his vehicle to the dealer and was advised that the struts insulated on the vehicle were defective and could not be replaced. The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. While driving approximately 15 mph, he noticed a loud noise in the front of the vehicle. The contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection and notifying the manufacturer. After further research the contact was able to determine that the lower control arms caused the failure. The failure mileage was 4,500 and the current was mileage 4,800.
The contact owns a 2009 pontiac g8. The contact stated that the lower control arm ball joints have failed on both sides of the vehicle. The left side was previously repaired and have failed again along with the right side. The dealer stated that there was no recall for his vin and he would have to pay for the repair. The manufacturer advised the contact that there was a total failure and to take the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 3,000.

Since the recall repair, the tire pressure monitor light illuminated constantly. She asked the dealer to reset the tire pressure monitor system for the front tires to 25, and the rear tires pressure to 28; however, the dealer refused to reset the tpms. He manufacturer was notified and the contact filed report number 71-767919699. 2009 pontiac g8/gt. Tire pressure sticker on the door is different from pressures listed in manual which is the reverse of the visual dashboard display. There are considerable differences which could well impact the safety of high performance driving. I have photos available electronically.
Pontiac g8 gt abs/ses/traction control off indicators/messages and or loss of power with the radio turned up.
Bothfront i nside door handles peeling revealing razor sharp material ..which has already cut my wife once if youyr not careful opening door from the inside you will cut you fingers . Also drivers lower outside seat trim falling off seat ..poss scrape & or trip hazzard
The tire pressure monitor continuously shows up even though all tire pressures are correct. These incorrect displays have been appearing for at least 2 years and take a long time to go away before reappearing again. As a result you will never really know if there is a problem with the tires. Our dealer says that other owners have the same problem and gm stopped paying for repairs.
