Car wont start

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the engine suddenly caught on fire without warning. The driver and passengers all were able to exit the vehicle without any injuries. The police and fire department were notified, but a report was unavailable. The fire department informed the contact that the fire was caused by an electrical failure. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic and pending an investigation. The vehicle was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 90,500.

Variably the engine stalls without warning, rendering the ps brakes to become inoperable, extremely dangerous for me as i am 78 years old.there have been times when this has occurred there was no shoulder of the road to pull off, leaving the car in whatever lane it stalled in! it takes anywhere from 5 min to 1/2 hour to restart very veryfrustrating and dangerous to other travelers and to me! something desperately needs to be done about this!

I have owned this car for a year and after i got it the security system locked me down so the car will not start. The first incident i was driving down the road and my security light started flashing then the car quit. I pulled over as fast as i could and played with the gear lever and key and got the car restarted. So after that i had to get a new key and have it programed to the car and was told that will fix it. Well it happened 4 more times after that but after playing with the key it started up. Then the last time i was at work and after 4 hours came out to go home it would not start again. Had to have the car towed home and now it is at the gm dealership being repaired. This is not the only car that has done this from what i am reading this is a common issue with all gm's with this security system. It locks out the injectors and starter. Guess what they are the only ones who can fix this issue because their computers can read the computer. This is a big rip-off for private people who cant afford to have their car fixed at the dealer.

On june 17, 2006 the rear drivers side window on my 2000 pontiac bonneville dropped and would not go back up unless pulled up by hand.even then it does not stay up when it rains, the wetness seems to make it slip.just purchased from basil resale in feb. 2006 with 45,000 miles.took it back to them and was told it was not a warranty covered problem and would cost about $400 to repair.from what i have been finding online i thinkgm should check into this problem as it looks like a manufacturers defect.i have not had it repaired as of yet because i cannot afford too.

Delco battery that comes with the vehicle has two outlets with two broken terminals that leak, and the gas that leaks. It is stored under the back seat, which also stores all the electronic relays that will produce sparks and create a hazardous situation, possibly starting a fire.

Battery is mounted under passenger's side rear seat. Consumer feels this is unsafe because one must pull seat up to get tobattery. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

Battery located in the back of the rear seat has gone bad, and causing sulfuric acid fumes to escape into the passenger's compartment, making passengers ill. Dealer contacted.*ml

My car recently failed to start. After a jump start from aaa i managed to drive the vehicle home. The car again failed to start. I diagnosed the problem as a bad battery and after locating the battery under the rear seat i was horrified to find that there was already corrosion under and around the battery area. I found a hole in the bottom of the car. This is a dangerous situation since i had no previous indication of the problem and the leaking battery had obviously existed for some time. The aaa representative who replaced the battery, made by ac delco, suggested it is not uncommon for the battery to fail around the + connection. I think i was lucky not to experience acidic vapors inside the car. I was surprised to find that there is no drip tray under the battery which would have averted the corrosion to the vehicle under the seat area. Batteries, like other parts, fail (this was the original battery) but steps should be taken to prohibit the corrosion problem particularly in an area that is only inspected after the failure. Under the hood batteries are far more visible.

Since i owned the car i have had these things fixed: 1 window regulator, 1 power steering pump replaced, power steering work (after the power steering pump was replaced) hood repainted and ignition switch replaced.now i need to have 2 window regulators replaced at $400 a piece.i'm having some load humming noise when using brakes but i had the brakes replaced and it did not fix the problem.the trunk leaks so i can not use it because everything gets wet.

Upon purchasing vehicle in the year of 2000 rack and pinion has been replaced three times. Coolant leaks, also starter and fuel pump have been replaced.transmission was leaking fluid due to torque converter seal failure. Consumer states vehicle has a noise coming from steering column on turns. Transmission does not shift correctly due to shift solenoid failure. Vehicle makes a popping noise from front end due to steering gear failure.

Driver side headlight socket has shorted out and burned two times since i bought my vehicle. It seems the electrical load going to the headlight is too great, therefore overloading the wires and causing a fire hazard. Plastic socket has melted along with the base of the headlamp( part# 9005).

Electrical connection at fuse box under rear seat was loose and sprarking/caused complete electrical failure

Consumercranked engine to start and heard a loud bang or pop.smoke started coming from under the hood, and vehicle caught on fire. This complaint was called in by the fire investigator.the owner of vehicle was keith ellis, 5708 spring lake dr. Evansville in. 812-423-4822.

Vehicle caught on fire while parked. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.

Was going to dinner with my husband and daughter.after traveling about 1 mile saw smoke coming out of passenger side hood area.due to rush hour traffic husband did a u-turn in the street and quickly stopped car. Before stopping husband lost everything brakes, electrical system. We ran from car tried to open hood engine completly engulfed in flames.fire department called.during the seeing of smoke there was no indication of any problems according to gauges, everything was running normally.this engine had only 20,990 miles on it.insurance company totaled the car.

We have had numerous other problems with this car, including radio, foglamps, passenger window, rear seat belt latches, door rattles, stitching in leather seats coming apart, automatic temperature control, alignment, tires that cannot be balanced, steering sector bearing, tie rod end defective & rough braking.dealer has fixed all problems, but the warranty is about to expire and now a rear seat belt latch has quit working.i have a national gm claim no. Which was obtained back in january 2002, c06145322.i have asked for an extension of the warranty due to all the problems encurred on this vehicle, but that has been denied.i would have to purchase an extended warranty for over $2,000.we should not have had so many problems with a brand new vehicle.please respond either by email or letter.larry neubauer

While driving the vehicle hit a bump the service stability system warning came on intermittently which could have caused partial loss of steering/brakes and traction control.this system is designed to slowvehicleor to preventvehicle from going around a curb too fast. Contacted dealer and manufacturer.this has happened 4 times.

Trunk area leaks and water builds up in the spare tire storage.clanking noise in steering column while turning either direction during colder weather.front drivers seat heater worked then quit for no reason, push button on & light comes on but doesn't stay on.wipers while in intermittent will stop during a sweep across windshield, when turned on or off also turns on/off the dash lights at the same time, and while in intermittent if blinker is used the wiper will stop during a sweep across windshield.

The service stability system light comes on continuosly, the brakes and steering have locked up while i am driving on two occasions because of the stability system, i have had to have 3 front end alignments and the brakes replaced twice.i have taken the car into bassett pontiac in muncie, in. And in new castle in.. They tell me the problem is fixed and two to three weeks later the same problem is happening.

Intermittentlyabs traction stability warning light illuminated on the dashboard. When this occurred the cruise control mode was inoperative.dealership performed a diagnostic test the failure code indicated, don't drive the vehicle and service immediately abs stability control failure.dealership serviced the vehicle 4 times, only temporary fixes had been done, problem still exists.

Car wont start

Was going to start my car i turned the key to the onposition and heard a very loud explosion and the motor broke out in flames.

Leaking coolant at the plenum and intake manifold gaskets. Replaced the upper plenum and the lower intake manifold gaskets.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville.after exiting the vehicle, the contact noticed a burning odor coming from the engine.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and an oil leak was discovered.the vehicle was not repaired.the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that no compensation would be provided because the vin was not included in a recall.the failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was 115,000.

After car was parked for 5 - 10 minutes fire in engine compartment.

I have a 2000 pontiac bonneville w/ a 3.8 v6 3800 series ll engine. I have noticed oil coming from the intake dripping down onto the manifold. There is a recall on the super charged 3800 series ll for the regal and grand prix. I would like to no why there is no recall on this model. Same problem, just not super charged. What happens if it catches fire like some of the others have? then will there be a recall? i have called the dealership and there is nothing they can do it is all on me. *dt

This 2000 pontiac bonneville 3.8l with approximately 195k miles was operating normally over the last 72 hours. It had been driven approximately 300 miles between 12/16 and 12/18 @ 12:50 pm the date of the fire.that cold morning (8 degrees f) it was driven 10 miles rt @ 9am, 20 miles rt between 10:30 and noon, and then sat for approximately 1/2 hour before it was driven 5 miles to a local store by my son. When he arrived at the store/gas station he parked near the pumps and when he shut off engine to go into store, smelled burning smoke from the front of the car. He opened the hood and was greeted by active flames coming from the front of the engine.the fire was subsequently extinguished and the burned part of the engine was the top and front left quarter (facing the vehicle).the anti-freeze reservoir was melted through.

Fire ignited in the engine compartment while parked in a mall parking lot about 5 to 10 minutes after leaving vehicle completely destroying the front of the vehicle.

I've run into a dex-cool problem with my pontiac 2000. The car has 65.000 mi and the cylinder head gasket is starting to leak, eventually destroying the engine. What kind of recourse do i have after the dex-cool class action law suit is closed? the postmark and online submission deadline to submit a claim statement was october 27, 2008. I did not had any information about this class action suit and deadline. Since this is clearly an oem defect involving thousands of cars and drivers gm should have reacted responsibly and issued a recall.

In may 2003, plastic intake cracked, allowing coolant to leak into oil system of car.intake plenum was replaced, as well as catalytic converter.this happened at approx 56,300 miles.repair cost approx. $970.now covered under recall for screws in plenum cover, however pontiac only refunded $710 of expenses.

Consumer parked his vehicle in the garage, approximately 5 to 15 minutes later the vehicle caught fire.half of consumer's home was destroyed.the next door neighbor alerted the consumer that smoke was coming from the garage.the fire department was called and extinguished the fire.no injuries were reported.

I have a 1998 & a 2000 pontiac bonneville with 3.8l engines. I have replaced 2 intake manifolds on the 98 in 3 yrs and 1 on the 2k with only 30k miles. Ea cost $630 every auto mechanic knows gm put a bad plastic intake manifold on this engine and refuses to recall and replace them.

One nut and bolt on each side of inner panel under the hood in engine compartment were loose. I tightened about 4 to 5 turns on nut (used 18mm open end wrench). After this took it to dealer-ship to know what this two bolt does ? dealer-ship technician said those are the bolts for front motor mount and rear transmission mount. My concern is that those bolts might be started to damage in 4 year of vehicle life(possible shear at the inner panel in engine compartment). Dealer agreed to order this part but waiting for answer from pontiac. There might be more consumer out there who might have same problem, because it is not visible until you check real close. I called pontiac consumer center but they said that they are not responsible for this and i have to paid for the parts. Why consumer responsible for the defect left from manufacturer.

Vehicle experienced ongoing stalling problem at any speed. Vehicle was taken to dealer on four separate occasions, and they were unable to determine the cause of the problem.

I smelled a burning odor in my bonneville ssei.the local gm dealer, on the incident date in this form, told me the cause was oil dripping on the exhaust manifold and that it was a fire hazard.upon further investigation, i found an existing nhtsa action number (ea07008) for the exact problem i am having for the exact 3800 series ii v6 l67 gm engine.there were 2 recalls for cars with this engine, but my pontiac model was not included (even though it has the exact same engine).the nhtsa campaign id numbers associated with the recalls are 08v118000 & 09v116000.i escalated this problem within gm and they told me to take the vehicle back to the gm dealer for another inspection.the gm dealer verified that my engine is the same as the recalled engine and that i have the same problem.gm refused to fix the problem because my vehicle's vin wasn't specifically included in the recalls.i strongly believe my vehicle should have been included in the earlier recalls and now should be considered for a new recall to eliminate this safety hazard.

2000 pontiac bonneville se with 56000 miles. Coolant leak due to defective plenum, pontiac had replaced throttle body nuts 3 each p/n 011517293, 4 each cooling s, p/n012378254 and 58 each cooling e, p/n012377963, at dealership 10/27/03 with 35499 miles on car under customer satisfaction recall, now at 56000 miles plenum is bad and repair at dealership is estimated at several hundred dollars which the dealer claims thatthe above repair done 10/27/03 covered the plenum problems and state that current problem not covered. After some research found that a lot of other owners are having the same problems and that the service done 2003 was not a proper repair because some of the parts used to repair the leaking coolant was to add stop leak pellets to the cooling system to patch parts that are clearly defective and should have been replaced.

Blower motor makes a loud noise when turned on

While driving on the highwaycooling fan malfunctioned, sending shards embedding into the radiator and slicing through the fuel line, causing a fire that consumed the front end of the vehicle.

When i drive my car most of the times, my engine oil leaks onto the exhaust manifold which causes smoke and a burned oil smell. I noticed that gm has had a recall for 1997-2003 buick regal gs and 1997-2003 pontiac grand prix gtpwith 3.8 l v6 supercharged engine (vin1 ? rpo l67). I have the same engine (3.8 l v6 l67 supercharged engine) on my 2000 pontiac bonneville ssei and have the exact same problem.i cannot wait any longer without repaired the unsafe damage. I will be repairing it myself and expect pontiac to reimburse me with the money. This has happened to my car many times.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville.while driving at any speed, oil leaked onto the intake exhaust manifold.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 07035, which states that drops of engine oil being deposited on the exhaust manifold through hard braking causes smoke that can ignite into small flames.once the heat or air conditioning is activated, a burnt oil smell enters the passenger compartment.the failure mileage was 110,000.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning.the contact stated that occasionally the vehicle would start immediately after it was shut off.the failure has occurred approximately twenty five times.the dealer stated that the cause of failure was the manifold.the manifold was replaced, but the failure continued.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.the current mileage is 85,000 and failure mileage was 84,700.the consumer stated the car shut off again on 05/30/07 had to be taken to another dealer on 05/31/07 to be repaired.the consumer provided pictures of the vehicle.updated 06/29/07

Engine fire experienced by consumer on 2000 pontiac bonneville.*lawhile driving the consumer's vehicle caught on fire under the hood.the consumer stated that the government investigated the 3.8 liter engines because 44 owners complained of engine fires due to a faulty intake manifold.

During summer, after driving car and stopping for 10 minutes to 1-1/2 hours, when you restart the car it will spit, sputter, stumble, and vibrate for 10 seconds or so before the engine will smooth out and run normally.

Allow me to state my case.i purchased a highly touted 2000 bonneville [xxx].this car was a gm master ase certified mechanics inspected vehicle.it was advertised as "gm quality certified trouble free", "no worry vehicle".i drove 400 miles to pick it up and was looking forward to a long pleasant ownership experience.the gm 3800 engine has been called "bulletproof", "one of the best engines of the 21st century".after approximately 4000 miles of use, the engine sustained a catastrophic internal engine failure.the pontiac dealer inspected my vehicle and i was informed it was going to need a new crankshaft!the main #3 journal bearing had spun and it was going to need a new crankshaft at a cost of $3500.my other option was to install a new gm 3800 engine, with a 100,000 mile warranty, for $5500.this breakdown had to be an inherent defect in the crankshaft or bearing for this to have happened.if you are willing to guaranty your engine for 100,000 miles, why is it unreasonable for me to expect at least that much service out of my engine??i have owned a bonneville before and it was fine, my father owns a montana, my brother owns a grand prix.we have always considered gm to be the name to beat!!i truly believe that the right thing for gm to do would be to, at least, absorb part of this expense.this vehicle should never have sustained this type of failure in it's young life.even hyundai and kia, korean manufactured cheap vehicles, carry a 100,000 mile engine guaranty!chrysler has a 70,000 mile engine guaranty.why must the biggest us manufacturer not be willing to standby it's product? updated 07/19/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Dt*:the contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was a hesitation, an odor of fuel, and a clicking noise under the seat where the battery was located.the vehicle got harder to start, until the vehicle would no longer start in october 2005.the vehicle has not been seen by a mechanic for this problem.also, while turning, there was a crackling noise and the vehicle did not complete turns. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and an independent repair shop, where the rack and pinion was replaced five times.the problem came back and no further repairs were attempted.

Vehicle unexpectedly caught fire.*phthe consumer stated in 2002 there was an investigation by the government relating to the 3.8 liter engines plastic intake manifold.

We are trying to find out if anyone knows of problems withgm pontiac bonneville's plastic upper exhaust manifold.we own a 2000 bonneville with 83k mileage. The plastic manifold exploded while trying to start the car. We are trying to resolve this with gm at this time.we learned that this has occurred before with other year bonnevilles.

Leaking intake manifold on 3.8 engine.plastic intake cover poor design, not holding up beyond forty thousand miles.

Dt: the contact stated he took the vehicle to a dealership to have it serviced on february 14, 2003. At that time they had to replace the intake manifold and flushed the motor. On october 7, 2004 the contacttook the vehicle to another dealership to have the vehicle serviced. They found anti-freeze was leaking into the engine. The intake manifold needed to be replaced. On december 22, 2005 he took the vehicle back to the dealership to be serviced. Again the intake manifold gaskets needed to be replaced and the repairs were made.the window motor and regulator were replaced. Updated 02/07/06.

Car started chugging in city driving, then stopped. Single hiss and large puff of smoke from under the hood. Pushed car out of traffic and got it towed to a garage. They told us that we had a fire, caused by a/c hose burst spilling freon onto exhaust manifold, causing flash fire which burned through the main wire harness and back bank of plug wires. Car deemed total loss by insurance company as repairs would cost more than $5000.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville.in april of 2005, the air conditioning failed in the vehicle.when the air conditioning was reactivated, it made a loud noise and hot air was dispensed.the contact took the vehicle in for repair and was informed that the motor could not take pressure from the air conditioning being activated.the contact paid for the repair; however, the air conditioning still does not work.in addition, the rear passenger side window and the front driver's side window fail to roll down.the window failure has been occurring for the past three years.the vin and mileages were unknown.

The air conditioning compressor failed and was replaced by dealer.(second unit defective, and third unit ordered/installed).*scc

Rack and pinion steering failed three times due to a klunking sound, with cause unknown, except low pressure in system.rack and pinion has been replaced twice.consumer states that the steering radius was erratic, when veering to the right at minor curves, the vehicle is hard to steer.the air deflector for the sunroof cracked and was replaced.consumer states that water leaks in the trunk mounted lens when the trunk is opened.the fuel filler door actuator failed, the driver side window was binding, causing a clunking noise.2 plastic nut covers were missing from the front wheel.

I have several complaints about my 2000 pontiac bonneville. My car has shut off while i'm driving, making loud noises, sputtering, etc. It occurs maybe every few months. It is very dangerous because i have small children and when my car cuts off i could get into an accident.on friday september 5, 2008 i had my car towed to buick pontiac gmc of south atlanta. I had previously had several diagnostics ran on my car and no one could tell me the problem with it. Although, i knew the dealership would be more costly, i had them tow it to the dealer thinking they would have to know what the problem was with my car.nothing was done to correct my car problems. They could not figure out what was wrong with it and they fixed several parts that did not need to be replaced. I have written the bbb several times.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville. When the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact noticed a fuel odor outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Smell of fuel dumping from exhaust. Air filter checks out. Mild smell just outside engine compartment. Headache producing smell inside can. Wasn't their a recall for part tolerances to correct this? are all gm delphi replacement parts presently sold adequate to address this. Previous owner had new upper and lower intake manifold installed. Hard cold starting can cause and caused my first experience with the excess fuel smell. Yesterday and today driving i am getting the fuel in the passenger cabin smell. I can only hope that this is a fuel regulator issue. And i will put on a fresh air filter to reduce erroneous enrichment. Odd how my code reader can perform a fuel pressure check and remedy the cold hard start condition. These fumes occur from tailpipe when starting, from all over now when driving. After parking the smell remains some at the hood. Some drivers following me stay eight car lengths back.

You cannot open either a door or window if the battery is dead.this happened to us today, and my wife was trapped in a hot car until we could jump the car and open the door.she called the gm dealer, brad fenton motors in ardmore, ok and was told that the "owners manual" told you what to do if this happened.can you imagine trying to look this up in the "owner's manual" when you were 6 ft. Under water or you were trapped inside on a 100 degree day, especially with a child?i think this is totally unacceptable and i want something done about this problem.

1. Right rear window motor failed at 30 months, but 60,233 miles.window had been raised and lowered less than 25 times. Pontiac agreed to 40% reimbursment. 2. After 60k mi check up, car began shifting very rough. Service engine light came on at 63,266 then off,no problem, again at 66237 in shop now, with two trans diagnotic computer msgs.will not know cost until problem found.before dealer did 60k check up was getting 29 mmg on interstate, since check up, getting 23-25mpg on interstates. I believe direct correlation between two, but i know dealer will not agree.

While driving i notice my car "jerks" when it shifts into a different gear.

2002 bonneville with 81,284 miles went into service 2/29/00.transmission failed on 3/15/2007.always serviced at pontiac dealer and no prior transmission problems.pontiac refused any help with the problem, but the service department indicated there was a technical bullentin on this problem.

During "cold" acceleration and deceleration, the transmission in the 3.8l v-6 engine in the 2000 pontiac bonneville runs so smoothly that it is almost impossible to feel or hear the transmission shift between gears. However, during "hot" acceleration and deceleration, the transmission shifts so roughly and violently that it is startling to the driver and it seems that the transmission is failing. The shift is very harsh. It bangs, bumps, shudders, slips, and grinds its way up and down through the gears. It is not healthy for the transmission or the rest of the engine. I have seen and heard many similar complaints about this happenstance and wholeheartedly believe that it is the sole responsibility of the manufacturer to recall and repair any and all transmissions that are experiencing this possibly life threatening design flaw and manufacturing failure. (because, in many cases, drivers have actually had their vehicle stop due to the defect in the transmission.) a remedy has been released...fix the pressure control solenoid...which is a manufacturer defect. However, the consumer is billed for this repair and it can cost above $400.00. A manufacturer defect should be recalled, repaired, and paid for by the manufacturer. Don't let the manufacturer get away with charging consumers to fix a flaw and defect that most likely occurred in the factory while the vehicle was in production.my vehicle was "checked" twice by service center at the dealer where it was purchased. I was told"nothing is wrong with it...this transmission is a sport transmission...it was built to shift with a "punch." however sporty a vehicle or transmission, a driver should not feel as if the transmission will fall out as it shifts.*note*in the "vehicle information" section, you will notice that i noted the failure occurred at 10 mph and at 40,000 miles. The failure occurs at any speed. It was occurring when i purchased the car, so i imagine it was occurring before i purchased the car. *la

Transmission drive sprocket support bearing came apart and damaged case and inside transmission; dealer said to drive this from illinois to michigan and if a problem occured someone would handle it, and it was safe to drive. Transmission doesn't fully engage while pulling into traffic from a cold start. High likely hood of being broadsided if car slowly moves 10 feet then stops moving.1st reported june 04, 2001, 17100 miles dealer could not reproduce. 2nd report sep 18 2001. 24167 miles problem had persisted, then transmission failed and had to be towed in for service.dealer found internal damage with carrier bearing.3rd report oct 17 200238739 milescold shudder still occurs. Dealer found damage with torrington bearing out of warranty. Gm covers most of expense owner pays $600.4th report nov 4 200238897 miles problem still persists.dealer replaces selenoids and valve assembly cost is covered by gm.dealer has been responsive to address issues, but i feel that the underlying problem first occured under warranty and i should not now have to share $600 of the repair cost, especially since the problem is safety related with a foreseeable of broadside accident if it occurs again. At this point i feel gm should reimburse me the $600, and agree to replace the car with no financial loss (better than just a normal buy/sell arrangement) if the problem reoccurs.dt

Owner of 200 pontiac bonneville re defective transmission, requesting a defect and recent recall investigation.the consumer was told the front and rear transmission mounts were broken and the left tie rod was severely worn.

I have had the same ongoing problem since the car was bought. The transmission solenoid vale has been replaced 3 times. There was a new transmission put back in the car. I still have the same problem. I have put so many repairs to this same problems. Not to mention all sorts of other repairs. I think this car is a lemon .

My 2000 pontiac bonneville was hesitating slightly when shifting between 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd gears.when it shifted it was jerking slightly.this was not noticeable when car was cold but occurred when warmed up. Transmission shop wanted to rebuild transmission for $2000. 2nd opinion said to take to dealer to have "prom relflashed".dealer said there's a bulletin out to fix problem for $800 due to a design flaw.gm should put out recall to fix this problem if they know about it.it shouldn't cost me $800 to fix their design flaw!

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville.the vehicle was taken to a local technician to have a child seat installed.the rear passenger side seat belt buckle was missing.when she felt down in the seat, the contact could not feel the buckle.the current and failure mileages were 128,000.

The consumer feels that the head restraints are placed too far back on the seat and give no head protection.

2000 pontiac bonneville.river and pessenger head restraints are too far back of neck.head travels back bout 6 inches before making contact with restraint.had a slight rear end mishapand suffered some whiplash. Other model cars have restraits that are much closer to your head. There are no adjustments.

Pontiac file #c02631710.i called the dealership and pontiac customer care within the first two months of owning the car, received a file number, but no follow-up by pontiac as promised.i have a concern that the front seat headrests will not provide adequate protection in the event of a rear-end collision.the headrest is not close enough to prevent your head from tilting back all the way, as if there were no headrest at all.

The heater in the driver's seat overheated and burned a hole through the seat material. Driver was not injured.

Abs brake light came on while driving.dealer installed a new brake module because of corrosion and a new connector because of corrosion.this is the same complaint that has come out with the gm suvs and trucks.it could be the same for the bonnevilles.part numbers for brake module 12226953$438.66, connector part # 12084595 cost $.63.

While driving, the driver noticed that the abs brake, and the track off light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably without warning.the driver was able to drive it to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic replaced the brakes pads, and rotor.the driver informed the mechanic this problem still occurred and has not been resolved.please fill in additional information.

Brakes make squeaky noise all the time, have had problem checked out 2 times, but they tell me this is something i have to live with. For a new car to make so much noise is awfull.

Consumer states the stability system had to be serviced 8 times, consumer stated the stability system is part of the abs.

Between 1-75 mph, rear brakes howl/moan when warm and light press. Applied.talked to dealer here and in denver, they're unsure of problem.no brake loss, just annoying noise!please help.

The service stability system light comes on continuosly, the brakes and steering have locked up while i am driving on two occasions because of the stability system, i have had to have 3 front end alignments and the brakes replaced twice.i have taken the car into bassett pontiac in muncie, in. Steering wheel and floor pan vibrations(5-10hz) at speeds over 60mph. Ride/handling and driver discomfort is affected. Dealer has performed alignment, new brakes, new tires, balanced tires, check tires and rims for defects. Dealer indicates that this is a known problem to gm. Dealer service rep. Will not provide any additional assistance with problem. Indicated "that's as good as it gets". Never had a vehicle perform like this that could not be repaired.

While driving and applying brakes agrinding noise occurs infront end ofvehicle, cause unknown. The consumer states the vehicle was unsafe to drive.

Vehicle shakes badly at 45-60 mph, mostly when slowing down. Dealer replaced brake lining at 15000 miles. Then at 30000 miles the front calipers, brake lines, and rotors were replaced. At this time vehicle is shaking again.there is an intermittant and sometimes violent shudder of the vehicle when slowing the vehicle.consumer has been informed that it is possible there is a problem with the torque convertor.*jg

2000 bonneville brake pedal when pressed goes to the floor after the gear has been placed in reverse.the consumer believed the problem he experienced was related to recall 00v114000, however the manufacturer refused to pay for the repairs.

Caliper rattle shakes entire vehicle 45-65mph.

While driving at any speed brakes hummed whenever they were depressed.also, three of the power windows were not working.consumer found that the regulator system gears were defective.

The brake rotors were replaced three timesfor excessive warping which caused vibrations and a soft brake pedal.each time the pads were replaced the rotors had to be replaced.the engine belt cracked once and was glazed once, both failures caused noise.the steering wheel makes noise when turning, the dealer replaced the steering shaft.the right rear brake light bulb was blown. *mr*nlm

The serpentine belt was replaced twice due to erratic operation.the belt was making an awkward sound and both times the belt was about to break before the dealer inquiry.mrper invoice, the squealing from the engine area-cracked, and drive belt noise-excessive wear-replaced.the consumer states that the brakes shimmey and the pedal is soft-rear rotor were found out of round, and refaced the front rotors.the pulsation in brakes were checked, and had been cut three times due to the front rotors-replaced.*scc

When the vehicle is accelerating there is a substantial amount of shaking in the front end. It gets very bad between 50-60 mph. I have had all the tires replaced because i thought it was the alignment, and i have brought the car to at least 3 different shops and all 3 have no idea what is causing the shaking. I have replaced the front rods, the front hub assemblies, the shocks and the tires all in an attempt to fix the issue. Because of the shaking it constantly destroys my front hub assemblies which i have had to replace 2 times in the past 2 years. It also makes it extremely unsafe to drive as one of the shops told me that the front assemblies were so destroyed from the shaking that i am extremely lucky that the tires did not fold under the vehicle and cause a major accident. I have tried for 3 years to fix this issue and no one has a remedy. I have also read on consumer review that many other people have experienced the same issue with their bonneville in the same year (2000) and again, no shops have been able to find the reason behind the shaking. I do not think that this vehicle should be allowed to have been manufactured with this issue and i do not understand why there is no recall in place to fix this life threatening defect.

Steering column noise.

I have a 2000 pontiac bonniville and when the wheel is turned to the left there is a clunking or grinding noise. This only happens when the wheel is turned left.

Intermediate steering shaft has been replaced twice and lubricated twice in the last four years. Continues to clunk when turning the car. General motors was contacted and admitted there is a problem with the steering and said they are working on a fix. Right now the fix is only temporary and can be costly.

Steering makes pops and grinding noises when turning.this is the second occurrence.first time at 37,000 miles i was told the steering shaft was bad.it was replaced, but i had to pay some labor.the problem is worse when the weather is cold.

I feel the right steering wheel control arm is too close to the steering wheel, on my 2000 bonneville.it is closer and longer that the turn signal arm on the left.i reported to pontiac that any time i rapidly steer to avoid an accident, i hit this arm before the wheel.this slows my response and starts the windshield wipers.i find this is very bad at such a time, hitting the arm slows my response and the distraction from the wipers just adds to the problem.i suggest the arm be shortened about 3/4 inch, withdrawing it from the immediate area of the steering wheel.i had a minor accident a couple weeks ago, and i hit the arm.i can't say i would have avoided the accident without hitting the arm.but i distinctly feel, hitting it slow my ability to avoid the accident, and yes, my windshield wipers were going when the car stopped.i have reported this to pontiac, but each year since, the arm is the same.do you have statistics of how many times windshield wipers were engaged after an accident?has anyone ever tested if there is a correlation of improperly placed control arms or devices, causing or making accidents more severe?i can't believe, i'm the only one who's noticed this safety flaw, and i don't know about other vehicles.but, i hit that dang wiper arm every time it's too close for comfort.and it's the worse time to hit it.if you'd like to test my driving abilities, i suspect you'd find my skills above average at the least.and if i hit it, i doubt i'm alone.

The steering mechanism started to make a very loud popping and growling noise while turning left approximately 4 days ago. I immediately took it to the dealer who informed me that this was a known problem and they would order a kit consisting of a plug and a tube of special grease to repair it. This caused me great concern because i am not sure this is a safe repair andcould just prolong the life of a component before it fails. I viewed this as a potential safety issue. I contacted pontiac via e-mail and phone with out a reply from e-mail and a reply via phone that was unsatisfactory. I reviewed the cuatomer complaints on your web site and find that this problem has caused failures of the steering assembly. My question is why have they not issued a recall for a known problem and how can additional grease solve a problem that sounds like it is in the rack and pinion or steering assembly. I do not want to sound sarcastic, but i hope they are not waiting for injuries and fatalities to fix this problem. I want to be sure they know what is wrong and that a tube of grease is the proper fix. I also do not want a failure of the steering mechanicism while traveling at speed. What should i do.

Incident date is an estimate.i had a clunking sound in my steering and took it to the dealer to investigate.they told me it was a known problem and the noise was because of the collapsible steering column, the two pieces are clunking together. Made that was in case of a crash.they said that they could take it apart, grease it and that it might not make any difference and that i would have to pay to have it done.i told them that because they told me it was simply the two pieces clunking together and that it would not hurt anything i did not get the lubrication.now 8-30-2004 my steering howls sometimes.i had my brother-in-law check the power steering fluid and it was low.he is a mechanic of over 25 years and states that power steering fluid does not evaporate and must be leaking and most likely indicate a greater problem.there are no visible leaks on the ground.i read the others complaints on this site and the steering seems to be a common problem.my hope in writing is that pontiac will step up and take care of the problem before someone gets injured.

Complained to pontiac dealership on 3 separate occasions that steering is binding while turning.complaints were at 19,539, 29,736 and 43,686 miles. At 19,539 miles, dealership found bulletin # 99-02-32-007a and removed/replaced power steering hydraulic return outlet and pressure inlet hose.at 29,736 mile, steering shaft was lubricated. At 43,686 miles steering shaft removed and lubricated.at 50,000 the binding is happening again.i will be taking to the shop again this week.it seems the dealership/manufacturer is doing "nickle & dime" fixes under warranty, and not fixing the real problem. I'm concerned there's a real safety issue.

While driving the bonneville the car will just shut down, looses all power. It has happened on the expressway and also just on local city driving.you can be going 30 mph or 65 mph.car will just shut down (which is very scary going 65 mph) and someone on your bumper.looses power steering so its hard to move over lanes on the expressway, we have found you need to immediately put on emergency flashers, shift car into neutral and turn the key. Sometimes it will start on the first turn of the key but sometimes it takes multiple times of turning the key, all this while coasting on the expressway with people buzzing all around you.the one time it happened i was right by the garage we have been taking it to, took it over, they ran a check on the computer system and nothing came up.they are at a loss as to what to do without just start randomly changing parts they think it might pertain to?any suggestions, this isn't safe to drive when it does this, and its just random when it does do it, no warning.

I have a 2000 bonnevile which i bought new, and have had problems with popping in the steering wheel.i have taken it back several times with this complaint and all they ever do is put lubrication in the intermediate shaft.the mechanic where i get my oil changed says that the intermediate shaft is leaking lubrication and needs replacing.the last time i took my car back to the dealership here in franklin, tn back in the spring of this year, they told me there was nothing else they could do to make the popping go away and that i would just have to live with it since it was not a safety hazard.they would not continue lubricating the intermediate shaft without charging for this service.i was just wondering if there is anything else i can do to get this problem fixed without a service charge since i have had this problem all along.thanks for any help you can give me regarding this problem.johnny donegan.

While driving slow and turning left i heard a "clank" sound coming from the left front area of the car. I was told that pontiac had a tech service which indicated a steering linkage part needed to be taken apart and oiled and put back. Gm also has a kit that was installed. *nlm

Owner of 200 pontiac bonneville re defective transmission, requesting a defect and recent recall investigation.the consumer was told the front and rear transmission mounts were broken and the left tie rod was severely worn.

During the tie rod end replacemnt a noise was heard insteering wheel. Dealer was notified, and made some repairs. But, problem is still reoccurring. Dealer notified again, and informed consumer thatproblem was in steering column upper shaft. Feel free to provide any further information.

Here and feel a slight clunking while turning.i am told by my father who replaced the rack on his 2000 bonneville that it is the rack starting to go on my 2000 bonneville.i am not looking forward to the $700(+) for parts only.

While driving at any speed, the consumer heard a clunky noise from the power steering wheel.dealer notified.the power steering pump shaft separated from the power steering pump.a new power steering pump was installed.the clunking noise was found to be coming from the steering shaft in which the steering knuckles needed to be replaced.a new steering shaft coupler was installed.the clunking noise remained and currently the rack and pinion is suspect. *scc

When turning in either direction steering produced a grinding noise. As a result, the steering rack and pinion malfunctioned.

Don't recall exact dates or milage of failure, but steering rack was replaced twice by manufacture at about 13,000 and 20,000 miles.both times experinced hard steering to left, abnormal sounds, and slight jerks transmitted through steering wheel during turning.now have the exact same problem with my 1998 pontiac grand prix which is having the steering rack replaced at a cost of about $1,000.on the grand prix bearings and other components actually fell out of the rack assembly on my driveway.the grand prix was purchased used about a year ago and currently has about 62,000 miles on it.i have never had to replace this component on any other vehicle i have owned.is this a common problem for these vehicles?

Steering very rough and bumpy turning both ways. Noticed in july,2001 fixed by dealer 8/20/2001 by replacing steering gear rack. Same problem back again in november 2001 at about 22,600 mi.

2000 pontiac bonneville with 32,000 miles. The drivers side rear door window dropped out of track while driving.i do not use the rear windows and it was in the up position and not in use. So far i have taken it to a body shop and had them prop the window up temporarily.they advised me to get it fixed because of fear the side air bag may be affected by disconnecting the power to the window. I called the dealer in our town and asked if there have been others with this problem and they said not that they were aware of. I was told they don't sell the track separately from the whole assembly including the motor and the cost of parts would be at least $350.00.i know of another owner with the same year and model as mine and both of their rear windows did this in a matter of days of each other.he lives in my town and this makes me think it must be a widespread problem.i saw another complaint like mine on this website and would like to have an investigation to see how many of these rear window fixes have been done in hopes of getting financial help from the manufacturer.

I own a 2000 pontiac bonneville & last year the rear driver side window regulator broke & needed to be replaced & a year later the rear passenger side window regulator also needs to be replaced.obviously if both of them needed to be replaced within a year of each other, this is some sort of faulty part. Our rear windows have not been open more than 4 times in the life of the car, so why should they be worn out? do you know of any other problems with this part with other bonnevilles?

There were no events leading up to this failure. Both rear windows just suddenly quit working. We took the vehicle to the pontiac dealership and, of course, they repaired them. $300.00 per window. Gm should absorb some of the expense, wouldn't you think? we have loved this vehicle up to this point.

If you know anybody that has one of these vehicles you can be guaranteed they have had at least one regulator replaced.

I've had 8 failures where the power windows fall down without warning. The first two failures were under warranty. Since then he regulators had to be replaced at a cost of $200 to $250 each. I stopped using the power windows years ago but they still keep breaking. On the last two occurrences i glued the windows closed with construction adhesive. Probably not the safest thing to do but i'm done paying for a factory defect. One broke and fell down when the door was closed, five broke and fell down while driving and two broke and fell down while the car was parked.

While driving the rear passenger window fell down, there were no passengers in the vehicle and the window was not being operated.the window operator had to be replaced at a cost of approx. $300.

Passenger window regulator failed. Two months later, the driver's side failed. Costs of over $400 & over $500. Between these dates the transmission went with only 60,000 miles. Cost to repair was $2400. Called pontiac on it.they had the dealer send a $400 "good faith" check. No moregeneral malfunction vehicles.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville.the contact stated thatpower windows failedto roll down.the dealer diagnosed the failure, but the contact stated that thediagnosis and faulty partwere unknown.the current mileage is 62,000,and failure mileage was 52,000.

The drivers side and passenger sidepower windows were hard to go up and down to a faulty module which cost $400.00 parts and labor.the dealer was notified. *nlm

July of 2005 left front window regulator failed. Replaced window regulator. November 2005 left window regulator failed. December 2005 right window fell down while driving because regulator failure. Car has air conditioning and windows are not used much. Rear window switches are locked out from drivers control because of a child in back seat. Reason for not being used much. I only have fixed the drivers window because of the expense and need to pay tolls. I have contacted gm about covering the parts and i will perform the install. They refused because of the 100k miles. This car is a 2000 pontiac bonneville.

Within a months time i have had to replace both rear window regulator assemblies in my 2000 pontiac bonneville.the first window went down on its own and would not go back up.less than a month later, the other window did the same.i took the car to a local dealership on 2 separate occasions to have this fixed.these parts are very expensive.i find it odd that a 5 year old car with only 60,000 miles should have such a problem, especially in such a short period of time.could you give me some insight on why this could be.

Both rear windows have fallen to their stops. They are currently being held shut with clear packaging tape. Both windows failed within 2 months of each other. The second window failed on christmas eve night 2005 when my son just shut the door. Gm wants approximately $1000 to fix both. The sad part is that we don't even use the rear windows. Gm claims there is no problem.

Bonneville with 37,000 miles. Numerous problems worst being upon attempting to make a right turn car keeps going straight then a clunk is heard from the front end of the car and the car finally goes right. This happened more than once.dealer was also able to get the car to have the same problem.dealer finds some type of metal lodged in between the links on the rack.rack is replace under preferred warranty.car has been in the shop 3 times in the past 14 days for a rear window seal leak, and is currently in the shop for a catalytic converter problem. *ph

Consumer has been to dealer on four occasions regarding a vibrating driver's side mirror, dealer has replaced mirror once which did not correct problem, dealer tried to fix it with weights and that did not work either, consumer states vibrating mirror is a distraction while driving.

All windows have a smear on them, causing dizzy spells and a problem of seeing throughwindows while driving.

The motors for the windows in my vehicle are an engineering defect.the motor for the drivers window went out.i've never had a motor for a window go out before however i know it does happen and i do use this window probably once a week or so.the problem is that i use my car for work only and all my children are grown.both back window motors have also gone out and total for the back to windows they have been rolled down 5 times only by accident when i was intending to roll down the drivers window.at $350.00 to repair the back windows have been made to stay permanently shut.i don't think it would be very safe to have all the windows made to not roll down but it is agrivating that i should have to pay for their poor design.

Wheelrims are corroding. A result, air seeps out all four tires.

The contact owns a 2000 pontiac bonneville.the front and rear driver side power windows fell down.the failure occurred when the vehicle drove over a bump at 25 mph and also when the window was being rolled down.the glass did not break.the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer, but the contact disconnected the regulator.the aluminum rims corroded on the inside and caused the tires to leak air.the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 94,540.
