While stopped on a side street (25 mph zone), the air bags involuntarily deployed.the driver was severelybruised and suffered significant & permanent hearing loss.there are 7 other incident reports filed with the nhtsa for the same event involving a 1999 pontiac bonneville.what does it take for a recall?

False deployment of air bag during start up caused injury to driver.

Consumercomplained aboutair bag problem. The air bags deployed without incident. Vehicle was traveling at 45 mph on the time of incident.*la

The driver owns a 1999 pontiac bonneville. The contact stated the driver was traveling approximately 65 mph when the front drivers side air bag deployed involuntarily. The driver suffered minor injuries. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed water was found within one of the air bag modules. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 96,000. Updated 06/24/11

While at a stop, the front air bags inadvertently deployed. The consumer drove home.please provide more information.

Vehicle was parked when consumer stuck key into ignition and the driver's side air bag deployed. Vehicle is a rental by avis 412-472-5200. Consumer does not know if air bag was repaired. *ml

A dear friend of mine had an accident a few days ago deploying the passenger side airbag resulting in the windshield being busted to an extent that it not being able to see through..shouldn't this be a recall....she owns a 99 pontiac bonneville srs.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 35 mph and getting off an exit from the highway, the front driver airbag deployed suddenly without warning.the vehicle did not impact any object on the road prior to the deployment.the driver did not lose control of the vehicle.the airbag warning light was not illuminated prior to the unwarranted deployment.the contact sustained minor lip injuries.the manufacturer was contacted and suggested that the vehicle needed to be inspected at an authorized dealership.the dealer was contacted and after inspecting the vehicle, determined the airbag deployed due to water damage.the dealer determined the heater core caused the computer to get wet, and therefore set off the deployment of the front airbag.the dealership disconnected the airbag.there were no pictures or police reports taken.a repair invoice for the disconnection of the airbag was available.

Upon accelerating onto the highway, after reaching highway speed, vehicle stalls and would not start. Flooding engine, gasoline coming out of exhaust, engine would not restart. After research and replacing leaking lower intake manifold, this was not my problem there was no leak. After more research i replaced more sensors and eventually cylinder gaskets and lower intake gasket again. Still engine would not start. After 2 years of car sitting i unplugged maf sensor and then it started finally. Faulty maf sensor but no way to find out unless it is unplugged because sensor did not give off any pertaining fault code pointing to the problem specifically.

Car stalled while driving home at night. No electrical power what so ever including emergency flashers.nearly had an accident and had no way of indicating to other vehicles that i had a problem.no lights, no power steering, no brakes, no brake lights, no emergency flashers.after slowing down to appx. 25 mph, power came back on. I shifted to neutral and was able to start the car and drive it home.

' takata recall"driving and the car cut off..after i stop the car and turn the key off. Was able to re start the car. This has happen a few times. This is not a safe thing when driving on the free ways ....i was in motion and on the street. There was a recall on this but was not were of it this was in 2009 now it 2016 and the part in my car is not working?

Positive battery terminal corroded out of battery. Previously had problems with positive terminal cables(replaced in 2001). *la

Positive post broke off of battery leaving acid inside engine compartment.

Vehicle would stall when either turning corner or taking foot off accelerator pedal. Took to dealer several times, and mechanic could not find anything wrong. Hadalternator replaced. But, problem still exists.

Vehcile just stalled for no reason. Dealer replacedalternator twice to believe it would solve the problem. The problem wasn't solved. The 2nd timealternator was replaced because they felt it might have been a defect of alternators.dealer really doesn't have a remedy for the problem.

Brakes do notwork correctly.consumer has to stop at a good distant to come to a complete stop. Also, drums have been checked. Last month dealer replaced brake cylinder. Brake problems have caused an accident.brakes failed frequently since the purchase of the vehicle.the rim cracked during the accident.the alternator and rear wheel cylinder failed.oil pan gasket failed causing oil leak.a/c failed four times.

Rf door would not open due to fender interfering with door jamb.at the same time, the engine tended to stall and sputter.car stalled on railroad tracks and passenger was unable to open door.car was restarted and no accident occured, however, this couls have been a serious problem.generator was replaced, but hesitation in engine performance persists.dealer has had car 44 days during past three months.sun roof replaced.door / fender problems repaired twoce.fenders removed so that insulation (sound, heat) could be properly installed.headliner in interior was incorrect size and was replaced.dealer states it cannot ascertain problem with engine but acknowledges problem.

The horn doesn't work when pressed as described in owner's manual. You must hit a certain spot on the wheel to honk horn. Dealer says he cannot do anything about it (3 times) because it's how the vehicle is made. Happens on all 1999 bonnevilles i tried.

I believe the horn "button" on these cars is a safety hazard. The manual states that you can press anywhere on the steering wheel pad to blow the horn. This is not true. It can only be blown at the two top corners of the pad, and it takes an excessive amount of force to sound. For some reason, the left side is harder than the right side. I checked this on another car (of the same make and model) on the dealer's lot, and it was the same. In an emergency requiring the horn to be sounded, it more than likely would never be sounded; especially by a woman or older, weaker person. Some sort of revision is needed here.

Horn neverworks properly.

Car stalls while driving.no power brakes, no power steering.car stalled at 3,889 mile, 4,372, 6,108, 8,9127, 11,023, 11,772.clairmont has repaired the a number of times.

The car started stalling and i replaced the plugs, ignition coils (3ea), fuel pressure regulator, took to dealer and their is a seal in the intake that have had problems and it leaked water into the cylinders a little at a time and then let go. They knew they had problems with it, they said so. Est cost $1000.00, then they will see if the engine is still good. So it could need a new engine.

When thoroughly warmed up, from a stop, usually making a turn, the car does not accelerate normally.hesitates and acts just as though starving from fuel.happens a third of the time.anti-knock sensor is retarding engine timing to a negative reading when it should be a positive 20 degrees during acceleration.dealer has replaced two sensors and the same situation still exists.dangerous when merging with or crossing traffic.

I purchased a 1999 pontiac bonneville from manamara pontiac in orlando fl., used our 3 ed one. My wife was driving it to her grands and it started shaking and lunged then quit all of a sudden. The car gave no warning and after a bit it cranked but ran rough. I towed it home and changed the ignition coils, spark plugs and a few other things and it never would run. So i took it to starling pontiac and they said that the plenum that was on the car was bad in fact it had a defect. The service manager told me (roy) that they have had problems with them. Gm called me and said they were closing my case from the bbb because it wasn't a new car from the dealer. I explained that i sent it to you them and others to get it noted. This is a saftey hazzard if it happens on the interstate or in heavey down town traffic. I went to michagan and was told there by gm workers that they had the same thing happen to their new car and the dealer fixed it free and it wasn't wnder warranty. It just seems strange that they don't admit they have a problem.m

Vehicle would stall when either turning corner or taking foot off accelerator pedal. Took to dealer several times, and mechanic could not find anything wrong. Hadalternator replaced. But, problem still exists.

Vehicle is subject to miss/stall while in motion at any speed due to wiring harness burning from spark plugs failing.please describe details.

Engine stalled without warning while coasting or starting off from stop - 3 times. Dealer had a computer program upgrade which he installed after the first two failures. Vehicle is currently at dealer - who, as of this afternoon, has not been able to reproduce the failure.

While driving at 50 engine completely shut off, leaving only dash board lights. Consumer tookvehicle to dealer, and they said that mechanismin the brain shuts offcar ifgoing 95 mph.second time, dealer could not duplicate problem.put a monitor on car which still did not duplicate the problem, on june 3, 2000, dealer found that crank sensor wa s defective, and that it would kill engine.they replaced it.consumer had the same problem on 11 of nov 2000,same problem occurred again.

Dt:the contact stated while driving at any speed mph on normal road conditions the engine stalled, no warning lights iluminate in the dash board.the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined no problems in the engine or electrical systems.the contact continues to deal with the stalling engine.

Consumer went to start vehicle ,and as soon as vehicle started , it backfired, and made loud sound.then, enginecaught on fire, causing smoke damage. Shattered windshield/burnedfront end, and almost melted tires. Vehicle was a total loss.also , there was a hole between accelerator pedal and brake pedal.

Dashboard has signal to show that windshield fluid checked, but there is no a signal to show that doors are open.book where it shows a door checked is page 2-76 in pontiac book, and consumer is concerned aboutsafety matter. The vehicle does not have a door ajar signal on the dashboard.the consumer believes the lack of this signal was a safety problem.

Vehicle was parked inside of the garage consumer startedthe vehicle an ditback fired, and the caught on fire.consumerextinguished the fire , and a police report was taken.no injuries reported.insurance company had the vehicle totaled.

The contact owns a 1999 pontiac bonneville.in 2003, while driving 15 mph, the contact noticed a huge cloud of white smoke at the rear of the vehicle.the dealer stated that the intake manifold had blown the gasket.the intake manifold gasket was replaced as well as the intake manifold itself.in 2005, the fuel pressure regulator switch blew out and was repaired under recall; however, the failure recurred in 2007.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that this would cause the engine to blow due to leakage of fuel into the engine.also, the rear window defroster switch would not shut off.he had to remove the fuse to prevent it from draining the battery.the failure mileage was 63,000 and current mileage was 104,000. Update 09/10/08 *cwupdated 09/19/08.

Cracked plenem allowing fluid to leak into engine to the point of water locking it. Caused $1200 in parts and labor.70,096 miles on vehicle.

On the morning of 7/15/04 while driving on loop 1604,san antonio tx, at approximatly 60 mph the engine stopped forcing me to try and get off the highway, my steering wheel locked and i only made it partway off the highway.my car engine would not restart and i was stuck halfway into the fast lane.prior this this there was no indication of any problem with the vehicle, no lights came on except just as the engine was stopping telling me to check engine. There were no indicators saying the engine was over heating. I had the vehicle towed to car pro, in san antonio. The extended warranty is covered by heritage policy #hbb 313037, however, the policy states they do not cover emmission controls.heritage insisted that other items be pulled from the vehicle before an adjuster would even be sent out. The adjuster told car pro he did not know why he was even sent out as they know they are having problems with the emmission control over heating and causing the plastic manifold to melt. Which of course leads to the fluids draining out and locking up the engine.so of course the repairs are not going to be covered and i have to foot the bill for even the extra heritage wanted done. Now car pro tells me that they have had problems with other vehicles with melted manifolds due to the emmission controls over heating and causing them to melt.the new replacement manifold has been upgraded and now has a metal area that sits over the emmissions control so when it gets hot it wont melt the manifold.this is a manufacturing problem, they know that and changed the manifold but did not recall it. Thus costing me over $1200.00 in damages and it could have been my life since my vehicle died on the highway in rush hour traffic.*la

The engine's plenum(spelling??) manifold started leaking water. My mechanic said it had "warped". He then told me that gm was having quite a problem with this part. He said he had replaced about 10 of these so far this year. And that his part distributor said there was a nationwide backorder on this plenum manifold. I contacted gm and was told there was no problem or backorders on this part. Would like to contact other gm owners to see if they have had similar problems with this part but don't know where to start. Any help will be appreciated.thanks

Engine plenum cracked. Sucked up coolant/anti-freeze , almost destroying the engine block.

While driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. This caused the driver to drift to the side of the road. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership for inspection. The mechanic informed the owner that the intake manifold had cracked which caused the engine to fail. The intake manifold melted and allowed coolant into the cylinder. *sc

1999 bonneville; 58,000 miles; it had been stalling intermittently for several weeks -- especially during turns.before i could take it to the dealer, the car loses power on hwy 63; fortunately, i was able to pull over.the mechanic reports engine has locked up because coolant has leaked into the engine due to a known problem by gm of coolant leaking into engine and thus destroying the engine. Total costs to replace the engine, the manifold and damaged the starter amounted to a repair bill of $5300 after a 10% existing customer discount plus state taxes.i checked the odi databases for '99 bonneville's and almost a 1/3 of the 111 complaints relate to the same problems i had before my car engine was damaged and similar problems of coolant leaks into the engine.does there have to be a injury before the nhtsa will act? why did the recent recall for the 2000 and newer models not cover the 1999's when gm has known of this issue of coolant leaking into the engine since the 1995/96 model year?please see my website for the analysis of the 1999 complaints http://www.missouri.edu/~ryh352/2003/bonne.htm i, of course, want my $5,300 returned from gm.i also think it only fair that the recall extend to 1998 and 1999 bonneville owners with less then 100,000 miles on their car and gm repair those cars free. *la

After consumer started their vehicle, the engine blew up, without warning.the dealership indicated that the cause was a bad gas regulator valve.please provide more details. Ts

Consumer states that the vehicle water pump has failed.*ph

Consumer was driving when the vehicle started back firing, lost power and stopped.the engine needed to be replaced.

The consumer's brother experienced the vehicle backfiring the an engine fire.the consumer is requesting the reimbursement of the deductible for the insurance claim.the consumer feels that there may be a negligence issue, per news article, that may uncover more incidents of this nature.refer to recall#'s 010601008a and 99070.sccreferenced in ea02-030

The upper plenum developed a hole that allowed coolant to flow into the egr.was told this was a common problem by the dealer and could have locked up the engine. *nlm

Enginechecklight illuminates on dashboard due tovehicle overheating. Coolant was draining out the reserve intointake valve. Dealer was notified. Please provide more information.

99 bonneville, in march of 2004 while travelingat 45 mph the car back fired and the engine killed, it was towed to a shop and coolant was in the engine. The upper manifold was replaced and gaskets at cost of over $ 600.00.a year later march 2005 the car was making a noise. The pontiac dealer could not find a problem. On april 2005 the porblem was find, haha , plastic intake was crank, more money. I thing gm sould recall and pay a these defects in there parts. I will fight till the end. I have spent over 1000.00 on there defect, me many many other people.

Dt*:the contact stated the intake manifold gasket fractured a year ago when the car had 40,000 miles. The fracture in the intake manifold constituted a leak and as a result of the leak the engine ran very inefficiently.the manufacturer was contacted 3 times to provide reimbursement for the repairs paid by the contact. Updated 8/30/2006 -

In mid may i had a authorized pontiac dealer replace the intake manifold which had ruptured after a backfire upon initial start of 1999 pontiac bonneville with a 3.8 l engine. On june 1, 2004, i was nearly near ended on interstate 80 in council bluffs as i retruned from a trip because vehicle lost power. Took to dealer and they said lower bearing was gone, meaning a new engine. I know there have been numerous consumer complaints. It's more than the cost of a new engine that i'm concerned about. With my near incident that could have resulted in serious injury to me or another party, i think it's time that gm take responsibility for these issues and a recall is gone to cover the issue.

1999 pontiac bonneville caught on fire in the engine compartment.*mrwhen the consumer attempted t start the vehicle it's engine backfired then caught on fire.recently the consumer came across a recall for defective fuel regulator which caused fires.the consumer contacted the manufacturer is awaiting a response.

The consumer stated the vehicle stalled which made the vehicle difficult to control.*ph the dealer replaced the oxygen sensor, but the problem continued. *scc

My car stalls intermittently, usually in town while braking or turning, or merely slowing down.it lurches when cruise control is set at higher speeds like it's trying to die.it has happened at least 10 times (dying) and 5 times (lurching) in the last 3 days.dealership unable to duplicate more than 1 time and can't figure out what to do next.have cleaned terminals and replaced crank shaft sensor.

There is a recall on gm 3800 series ii engines for years 2000 and above relating to the intake plenum.this defect causes serious engine problems.i talked with more than one mechanic who stated that this exact defect frequently occurs in 1998 and 1999 year autos which use the same engine.my 1999 bonneville has this problem which will probably cost several thousand dollars to repair.i believe this should be covered by gm.currently, they are not covering 1999 models.this is an obvious manufacturer's defect and should be taken care of by them. *ph

Plastic engine intake plenum assy meltdown causing coolant into cylinders of engine.original incident identified to possible damage to 1st cylinder.plenum assy replaced with metal sleeve which mechanic claimed was superior to original mfg part.prior damage to 1st and 2nd cylinders became permanent months later when engine shutdown while driving.researched recall data and found nothing to date.mechanic acknowledges problem is frequent and known by manufacturer for long time.contacted gm and was refused any type of compensation.researched complaints on nhtsa a found an unbelievable large volume of the exact same problem.intend to call nhtsa direct and find out status of large complaint base with no action.intend to contact all others filing complaints for definite immediate class action.

I have a 1999 pontiac bonneville.the car would not start and i had it towed to dobbs.dobbs investigated and found that the upper plenum had warped.thereby causing the starter to fail and antifreeze to get into the engine.pontiac knew about this problem and corrected it on the year 2000 model.however, they did not do a recall and left us poor saps to have to pay for the repairs ourselves.since my car is out of warranty, they have said that it is my own problem.i am out of pocket $1,046.96 plus $40 towing fee for a problem they knew about and didn't recall.i wish to be reimbursed.

The vehicle stalled without warning, which made the vehicle difficult to control.

A bell sounds and engine shuts off. No power at all, causing very dangerous condition. Had to dealer 5 times, and crank sensor replaced, along with computer. Condition still exists which could cause possiable accident with serious injury or death.

While the vehicle was parked consumernoticed that fluid was leaking from underneath. Vehicle was taken to a body shop for inspection, andmechanicdetermined that the head gasket needed to be replaced due to a defective head gasket.

While driving and would slow down for stop sign/light, vehicle would stall out. A bell would ring prior to vehicle stopping cold. Would be doing speed limit when it happened. Will be taking to dealer.

I've had major problems with my 99 bonneville, costing me over $2,400.it started at 64,000 miles (6/26/02) with a backfire caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulator, which now has a service recall (a little too late); that cost me $300.a week later, the upper manifold plenum leaked causing the engine to flood and die; i spent over $500 on that little project (replacing the manifold and cleaning the engine).it never ran right after that; i had extremely low gas mileage and lack of power, and the engine light kept coming on and off and it stalled on many occasions.after about six months of this, it died again on 3/22/03.this time, it spun the main bearing and the lower half was ruined.i went to three different mechanics before i could find someone willing to touch it, but i found a good mechanic that rebuilt the lower half (versus replacing the engine) for $1,600. I still have the car and it seems to be performing well, but you never know.im going to include all of my repair costs for reimbursement (through the fuel pressure regulator recall notice) and see what happens.my mechanic says that all of this is related to the backfire and the plenum leak.

Engine cuts off while driving. Parts replaced so far: crank position sensor, elect ignition control.

While driving at 50-55 mph, the vehilce engine's abruptly shut off, this happened twice while driving at 30 mph and again while driving at 15-20 mph, the vehilce restarts after a few minutes, dealership at a loss as to the cause of problem. Cj

Engine shuts off unexpectedly.cannot recreate the problem.

Engine exploded while the consumer was trying to start the vehicle. Tried to start two times but the vehicle would not start. The consumer wants to know what caused the explosion.

Vehicle stalls intermittently.

A hole developed in the plastic upper intake manifold where coolant runs next to the egr valve, resulting in the car suddenly stalling and not able to be restarted, because of the coolant being introduced into the air fuel mixture. It is my understanding that this is an ongoing problem that pontiac is aware of.

Vehcile just stalled for no reason. Dealer replacedalternator twice to believe it would solve the problem. The problem wasn't solved. The 2nd timealternator was replaced because they felt it might have been a defect of alternators.dealer really doesn't have a remedy for the problem.

Engine stalls for no apparent reason. It happens under just about any circumstance. The most dangerous time of failure is when turning or pulling out of driveway across traffic because of loss of power steering.

Vehicle shuts off or stalls.engine checklight appeared on/off, and vehicle lost all power steering & brakes.dealer installed a monitordevice to tract other conditions of the vehicle factory related problems.also, replaced the crank sensor in hopes it would remedy the problem. Vehicle operated for a couple thousand miles &problem came back. *ml

When driving at normal speeds under normal conditions, and at anytimeengine will suddenly shut down, causing no power steering or power brakes to be inoperative.dealer has been contacted.

Engine stalls intermittently.mechanic cannot find cause.will stall mostly upon deceleration.

Vehiclehas experienced problem withintermittent stalling.problem reoccurred on eleven occasions, and vehicle has been in dealer's shop on eleventimes. But, problem still reoccurring, will restart every time. Please feel free to provide any further details.

Engine will stall intermittently while driving at various speeds, resulting in a loss of power brakes and power steering. Dealership has examinedvehicle several times, and has been unable to effectively remedy the problem. The consumer stated that the vehicle stalls 33 times and power failure happen when steering becomes difficult.

Vehicle stalledin traffic from time to time.dealer has looked at vehicle, but couldn't determinethe cause. Engine shut off while driving.driver has trouble steering and braking when this happens.dealer replaces; pcm, sensor and crankshaft position but the vehicle still has the same problem.vehcile has been in shop five times without solutiion.

Engine stalls intermittently without warning, cause is unknown. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem. *ml

Car stalls when decelerating.it has happened 11 times.it has been returned to the dealer 7 times.minor adjustments have been made but the dealer is unable to fix car or duplicate problem.reported to bbb auto line and local state representative bonnie ladwig.

While driving vehicle will stall and lose all power. Let vehicle come to a stop, and vehicle will immediately start back up. This happens intermittently. Contacted dealer, and dealer could not fine anything wrong.

Dt:the contact stated while driving at any speed mph on normal road conditions the engine stalled, no warning lights iluminate in the dash board.the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined no problems in the engine or electrical systems.the contact continues to deal with the stalling engine.

In normal driving, the intake manifold cracked and caused the coolant to leak into the exhaust system. This has caused extensive repairs and the problems continue. *nlm

While driving, the vehicle will shut off, the dealer replaced the crank sensor.

Two intake manifold failures for my 1999 pontiac bonneville, 3.8 engine.first one was in january 2003.now 15 months later, it has failed again after 35000 miles.the first time, repair costs were just over $800.now i'm looking at a bill of $866.i have read the tsb and many other online complaints that i'm not the only one with this issue of recurring failures.some have even reported fires in the engine compartments or complete engine failure.

I have a 1999 pontiac bonneville and i noticed about 3 weeks ago that the coolant reservoir would not hold any coolant.i took the vehicle to butts motors to have a belt changed and the coolant leak investigated.they informed me that it was the upper manifold and gasket that needed to be replaced.i asked if those parts were part of the emissions system and the gentleman said, "yes it is.if you don't get it replaced you'll be spilling emissions all over the place."he then quoted me a hefty price of almost $900.00 to do the work.i told him that i believed that the upper manifold which he confirmed was part of the emissions system should be covered for 7 years/70,000 miles (federal emissions law). This particular problem is common among gm engines from 1995-1999.it is an issue covered in their technical service bulletin no: 01-06-01-007a, dated july 2001.it states that, condition: some owners may comment on excessive engine coolant consumption, or an engine coolant leak near or under the throttle body area of the upper intake manifold."they continue," cause: upper intake manifold composite material may degrade around the egr stove pipe and could result in an internal or external coolant leak."the egr system, intake manifold, and the throttle body assembly are all covered under emissions.the serviceman at butts motors told me by phone on 31 july 2003, that the throttle body was covered under the powertrain warranty, which was, of course, expired.it is not covered under the powertrain.i want gm to cover the cost of the warranted parts/labor for this repair. The fact that the gasket is made of plastic and that the recommended coolant "dexcool" corrodes the plastic is not the fault of the consumer.this is a documented defect and should be corrected for the consumer at no cost.i sent this exact complaint statement to the california state attorney's office. I want general motors to take responsibility for and rectify its faulty products.

Coolant leaked into the engine.dealer stated the plastic manifold melted which caused leakage.

Dt*: the contact stated while starting the vehicle it backfired and the check engine light illuminated.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop.the mechanic determined the intake manifold was leaking coolant and the gaskets needed to be replaced.the manufacturer has not been alerted.

While running, vehicle experienced a back fire causing the manifold to crack which caused a fire. Dealer notified.tswhen backfire occurred engine died and there was smoke from under the hood. Consumer was able to control the fire with snow. Referenced in ea02-030

I had to have the intake plenum replaced on my 99 pontiac bonneville...started with vehicle hesitating on take off, rpm's accelerating very high but mph not catching up...vehicle then backfired and loss all power...had it towed to dealer...dealer said intake plenum was warped causing coolant to possibly leak into engine...gm would not cover under warranty which cost me $1000 to correct...vehicle was fine for a month or so and started doing it again.i think its ridiculous that gm knows about this problem but refuses to take responsibilty for it as a factory problem..i would like a recall on this and my money reimbursed to me.i also think this problem should be repaired correctly with a part that won't burn up because its made of plastic.i have read on many websites complaints about this same problem but the problem is that they are complaining to the wrong people.i was recently informed that gm does not decide to put out the recall,it's really the nhtsa that is responsible for that.my plan is to post this link on those websites and hopefully enough people will post a complaint here too and maybe we could get some reimbursement for the poorly built cars that all other consumers have purchased.

Brought vehicle in for oil change @ local repair shop. Shop owner states check engine light came on-vehicle stalled. Found plastic intake manifold burned. Entire engine flooded with anti-freeze.estimated engine repair cost approximately $2100.00.

G.m recall # 040v09000 was performed on my 1999 pontiac bonneville on july 2004. Fuel pressure regulator was replaced, the part has failed again and had to be replaced again. I contacted pontiac and asked to be reimbursed for the cost of the part. Pontiac has informed me they will not cover the cost of the part as the car is out of warranty. The car was not under warranty when the part was recalled and replaced in 2004. Is gm only required to replace the part one time?

Fuel system, gasoline:delivery recall for 1999 pontiac bonnevillerecall announced: february 24 2004nhtsa reference: #04v090000number affected: 910,873summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with 3800 v6 (l36) engines and certain delphi fuel pressure regulators, the regulators have a much higher than usual rate of fuel leaks. A leak can allow fuel to enter the intake manifold through a vacuum line. If the engine does not start when cranked, the fuel from the leaking regulator and a mistimed spark can cause a backfire. Consequence: the backfire can rupture the intake manifold. The rupture of the intake manifold can displace a fuel line, pulling an injector out of place, and causing a fuel leak and possible fire. Fix: dealers will install new fuel pressure regulators with improved diaphragms. The recall will be conducted in phased mailings. Phase 1 began on june 30, 2004, and phase 2 began on september 30, 2004. Owners should contact buick at 1-866-608-8080, oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537, or pontiac at 1-800-620-7668. For detailed information & supporting documents, see the official nhtsa page concerning recall #04v090000.

Vehicle has performed perfectly since purchase.my wife experienced hesitation upon entering a busy intersection and almost caused an accident.upon inspection, the intake manifold (plastic) is warped causing a large gap at the interface to the throttle body allowing antifreeze to enter the engine and also causing an intake air leak which is degrading the air/fuel ratio.

There has been a problem with a gas leakage. The fuel supply line fitting at the fuel injector rail was the problem. O-rings were replaced, things seemed fine - no gas smell or leakage. This lasted for appx. 24 hours. I drove about 7 miles to and from work three times, a total of 21 miles, stopped at a library, came out, smelled gas, was driving the car home - one mile - was going to park it and get someone to look at it. I stopped at the mailboxes and heard a slight poof sound under the hood.when i looked up i saw smoke bellowing out from under the hood.i grabbed my purse and jumped out. From a distance i saw 2" balls of fire dropping from the engine to the street, called the fire department and watched my car go up in flames while waiting for them to show up - all because of one small plastic piece under the hood. Also, i would highly recommend everyone to carry full insurance coverage - a lesson hard-learned.

The fuel sensor was faulty, which caused the vehicle to leak gas.

Intake plenium on vehicle is broke.please provide any further information.*mr

Composite intake manifolds on pontiac, buick, oldsmobile, chevrolet with 3.8 l engines are failing and dumping coolant into engine causing repairs to cost from $400 to engine replacement.gm is aware of this problem ( see gm service bulletin 01-06-01-007)

Regulator failure on vehicle has caused the intake gaskets to blow out.*mrthe vehicle has been taken to the dealer twice to have the plenum replaced due to fuel pressure regulator malfunction.the consumer was told that both times the regulator failed causing a backfire, blowing the intake gaskets.this in turns caused the exhaust tube in the plenum to get too hot therefore burning a hole in the plenum.the consumer finally eceived a recall not related to the problem and submitted paperwork for reimbursement.the manufacturer only reimbursed the consumer a portion of what was actually paid in repairs.

Noticed smell of gas when auto parked in garage..further investigation noted that fuel leaking from fuel line..took auto to dealer and dealer stated that both fuel lines have deteriorated, causing the leaks..while i have been familiar with fuel leaks from loose connections, i can not imagine how fuel lines can not been built to last.

My 1999 pontiac bonnevilleequipped with 3800 v6 (l36) engines and certain delphi fuel pressure regulators, the regulators was found to have a pin hole leak in the diaphram causing fuel leaks and engine backfire.this is similar to safety recall 04v090000, yet pontaic says none of the pontiac bonneville are included why not???sounds like it is also a problem on this car also.

The consumer states that the fuel regulator is leaking fuel , causing the vehicle to have a strong fuel smell.the mechanics told the consumer that if not replaced right away, this may cause a fire, the fuel regulator has been replaced twice since the consumer owned the vehicle.*scc

My 1999 pontiac bonneville exploded when the key was turned in the ignition & fire shot out from under the hood.when the key was turned off, the fire stopped.i had the car towed to a private mechanic who replaced the a fuel injecter & upper intake plenum (which was in pieces from the explosion).my bill was $430.63.in june 2004, i received a recall letter from gm corporation saying there was a safety issue with fuel pressure regulator diaphragms leaking.the letter described the following:"a leak can allow fuel to enter the intake manifold through a vacuum line.in low battery conditions, if the engine does not start when cranked, the fuel from the leaking regulator and aspark can cause a back fire.the back fire can rupture the intake manifold, causing a loud bang.the rupture of the intake manifold can displace a fuel line, pulling an injector out of place, and causing a fuel leak.if there is an ignition source, a fire can result."this letter described exactly what had happened .the lights had been left on in my pontiac which caused a dead battery.a battery charger was connected to the vehicle when the explosion happened. When we tried to start the car again, the fire started again where the intake manifold was located.i made a request for reimbursement to gm.my file # is 1-260698900. I was asked to take my car to a dealer in salisbury for an inspection.when i took the car in on sept. 29, 2004, the fuel pressure regulator was replaced. According to the recall letter, an inspection will be made and, if necessary, the regulator will be replaced. So the recall condition was fixed by this replacement.gm refuses to reimburse me for my repair saying i have no proof the recall condition caused the explosion.i was given no recourse to dispute their decision. The condition described in the safety recall letter was exactly what happened to my vehicle in february. Help.

Request for reimbursement for damage to engine from a pulled fuel injector.*mrwhile pulling into a parking lot the vehicle stalled and would not restart.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that a pull fuel injector flooded the injector, pistons, cylinders, crankcase and engine with gasoline which resulted in a blown engine.a 1998 replacement engine was installed from another vehicle.the consumer requested reimbursement because he believed the failure was related to a recall (recall #03054b).the consumer filed a claim for reimbursement but was denied.

Gas gauge does not read correctly.when fuel will read full until150 miles.also after filling up, will show empty for a long time after. Dealer cannot correct problem.

The fuel pressure regulator failed will driving.when this occurred, the vehicle lurched forward before stopping, lost power brakes and steering.the dealership replaced the part, but the problem recurred within 12,000 miles.*scc

I was on vacation driving into a rest area when the car made a "thonk" sound and the transmission just stopped. I could shift it into any gear, but it would not go anywhere. We had to push the car into the parking lot and have the car towed to a repairman. When the transmission was torn down, it was found that the gears had blown a part. The machanic could not find a used one and it would have taken4 or 5 days to get one from ac delco, so he rebuilt the existing part. The mechanic said he had three other cars with the same transmission come in with the same problem in the month of april 2004 alone. I only had 48,000 miles on the car. We were lucky we were not on the open road when the incident happened.

Over the past few days noticed that the brake pedal was traveling much farther than normal. Since this is my wife 's car, and i do not drive it much, thought that the back shoes were low since they had not been replaced in awhile. Purchased a new set and planned on installing. However the next day noticed that the brake light warning came on and the brake fluid was low. Topped up and light went out. I thought that the low level was do to the worn shoes which would make the level go down. However the level continued to go down as i drove. That meant a leak. Thought perhaps a wheel cylinder.all looked okthe problem : rusted out brake lines from the master cylinder to the abs controller all in the engine compartmentall four lines rusted two or more leaking!!!continued use and hard braking would have cause no brake and surely and accidentall four lines must be replaced these lines also go under the car to the back.will have the dealer dohave called gm and go no satisfaction car is a 1999 bonneville113000 miles this should never happen .
