Brakes failed, causing accident.

Airbag deployed while driving. Light came on and about 30 seconds later passenger bag went off and blew out the windshield. The insurance company fixed the window but are claiming that this is a mechanical defect and is not covered unless a rider is present on the policy. I feel this is a disclosure violation as i would have had that rider in tact. This vehicle still needs airbags and systems repaired. The driver side has been disconnected to allow for the vehicle to be driven as the insurance company has halted the rental car and are dragging there feet getting an agent to the house to look at the vehicle.

Driver side air bag deployed when car was started, not even in gear,a minute or so later the passenger bag deployed shattering the windshield. I contacted gm to find out why. Gm had me at my expense tow the car to a dealership to have their inspector investigate. The investigation showed that water had damaged the wiring in the module that controls the air bags. Gm concluded that it was a manufacture defect and offered to assist by repurchasing my vehicle at aprox 1/3 its currant market value!they refuse to give me any of the paperwork and i am very angry!!!my car is a complete loss.

My neighbor and i were driving along.................when suddenly without warning, the air bags were deployed from driver and passenger side of my pontiac bonneville sedan.........front windshield damaged due to air bag being deployed. Must be replaced. No injuries.........we are sore from this incident............however, i feel that general motors must know something about this situation.

Driving 1995 pontiac bonneville, passenger side airbag deployed without crash, violent explosion, dash came apart, breaking and bowing out passenger side of windshield. Pregnant passenger was injured by air bag.

1995 pontiac bonneville air bag deployed.the driver's air bag deployed inadvertently shattering the windshield and part of the molding over the dash.there was no impact.

The driver side airbag went off in my 1995 bonneville while driving down the road at about 60 mph. Gm said they would replace the airbag.but they will not warranty the new bag. There seems to be a problem with these cars taking on water somwhere which then gets to the airbag sensor under the passenger seat.this causes the sensor to get corroded and become faulty. I'd liketo know what my options are for dealing with gm on this matter.

Violent deployment of air bags during collision causing extensive damage to vehicle.

Driver's side airbag suddenly deployed without warning while driving down interstate.*la

Air bag deployed at 25 - 30 mph without any cause.no accident at all.shattered my whole windshield and blew apart my dashboard.my daughter was in the passenger seat at the time and she was very upset.

The air bag light came on and the passenger side air bag spontaneously came out while i was driving.this is a very serious situation, in which i could have been hurt, or caused to be in an accident.

The contact owns a 1995 pontiac bonneville. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the air bags deployed inadvertently. As a result, the windshield became cracked.no injuries were reported. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,000.updated 12/17/14*ljthe consumer stated the manufacturer advised the failure was due to a corroded switch in the floor under the passenger seat. The manufacturer considered the failure poor maintenance. The consumer stated the rug was wet because the moonroof malfunctioned. Updated 9/29/2015

Brakes failed resulting in a vehicle collision, violent deployment of air bag, exploding into windshield with no protection to consumer. 532918 dup of 533261; posted on 09-07-1999.

False deployment of driver's/passenger's air bag, also passenger's air bagdeployment was violent.*skd

My 1995 pontiacpassenger side air bag deployed while my car was parked, with no impact! it caused extensive damage and when gm was contacted about the issue there reply was "to bad, its your problem, the car is more than 5 years old". If there had been a passenger there would have definitely been serious injury!

Cruising on the mass. Turnpike at 68mph on a rainy night, the passenger air bag exploded for no reason. The bag shattered the windshield, blew the moonroof up and bent the rails. When shrapnel and dust settled, the driver bag went off. I've owned this car for 17 years and was never made aware of this problem that has been known about for some time.

The car was in park and the car rolled across the highway and hit several signs and the airbag did not deploy. Please describe.tt

My air bags blew up on me driving down the road in the rain and pontiac said its a bad spot on thee carand they want to buy it back for 600 from me plus i have 2500 in chiropractor bills and a window to reimburse my parents that help me i have no air bags and i fill safe with out them.

Consumer was traveling at approximately 35 mph whenpassenger's air bag deployed for no reason.there was no crash as a result from this, anddealership has not examinedvehicle yet.please provide any additional information/attachments/photographs.

My air bags deployed for no reason.i was stopped at the end of my driveway and all of the sudden the air bags exploded in my face.the windshield on the passenger side was shattered.my face got scratched and my hand got scratched.it scared the daylights out of me and there was no reason at all that they went off.

While vehicle was parked on the street both air bags deployed.

Both front air bags deployed while vehicle was parked. The passenger's side air bagbroke the dashboard and the windshield. Dealer notified.

While driving airbags deployed unexpectedly before the crash.also, passenger's airbag cover flew off, hitting the windshield.please provide further information.

While driving 35-40 mph, frontal impact occurred, and neither air bag deployed. Vehicle totalled. Dealer not aware of the problem. Contacted gm -no results.

The contact owns a 1995 pontiac bonneville.while driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the front driver side air bag deployed.the contact lost control of the vehicle momentarily, but was able to regain control.the contact injured her left hand.the failure was reported to the manufacturer and they stated that she would receive a call back from gmc within 48 hours.the vehicle will be taken to the dealer for a diagnosis.the current and failure mileages were 133,060.

Uponstarting the vehicle after being parked overnight passenger's front air bag deployed. The air bag shatteredpassenger's window. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

While driving 35 mph, the front passenger air bag inadvertently deployed, causing smoke to come from the air bag and shattered the front windshield and damaged the dash.the consumer managed to pull over to air the vehicle out and then continued to their destination.the dealership has been notified and the problem was not resolved. *ph the dealer would not cover the repair cost due to the vehicle being out of warranty. The service tech's could not check the driver's side without installing a passenger side airbag.*sc

Was driving down the road at 35 miles an hour, passenger side airbag spontaneously deployed, shattering the front windshield and tore up the dash board. Drivers side did not go off.brought vehicle to a gm dealership to get an estimate for repair. Said they would look at it and wait to hear from gm in regards to coverage etc. In the meantime the dealership left the car out in the rain for a week causing water damage to the interior of the car. After many attempts to resolve with gm customer service, they replied a week later refusing to cover any costs in repair. Had to pay for a rental car for two weeks because dealership refused to provide one during interim. Now not only the cost of the windshield, dash and airbag to becovered, there is water damage to car, as well as possible electrical problem due to the water getting inside the dash board. So far everyone i have contacted have refused to do anything, because the warranty has run out. I do see that there have been two other complaints just on your website of the same problem year and make. With the same results.

Failure on the passenger side air bag, consumer was involved in a head-on collision and the passenger's side air bag deployed, also pieces from the instrument panelmaterial /padding came off the dash.

1) defective primer causing white exterior paint to peel on the whole surface of car2) leak in wield around windshield and rear window causing electrical shorts in power door locks and also airbag module under driver and frontpassenger seat.

Windshield and rear window seals leaking in 1995 bonneville corroding airbag sensor module connections, resulting in airbag deployment without accident.

While driving 40 mph passenger's side air bag deployed inadvertently. As a result, windshield shattered.ten minutes later, driver's side air bag deployed, hitting the driver in the face.

While driving 65 mph passenger's side air bag deployed inadvertently. Dealer was notified.

The contact owns a 1995 pontiac bonneville. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vehicle began to stall more frequently.updated 10/21/2015

The contact owns a 1995 pontiac bonneville.sporadically, the head lamps fail, which increases the risk of a serious crash.the contact also noticed that the head lamps could not be turned off or would activate while the vehicle was parked, which resulted in a loss of battery power and the inability to restart the vehicle.she called the manufacturer in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 94v190000 (exterior lighting:headlights); however, her vin was excluded from the recall.the contact would be responsible for the repair costs.also, the paint is abnormally chipping on various parts of the vehicle.the failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 129,000.

Front and rear windows joint welds break leak into the vehicle starts and the airbag module shorts out and can blow anytime this has not been recalled or looked into after i sent in compliant now some kid riding in rain had his blow out and caused an accident with injuries and they wanted to buy back the car for $600 ???? are they crazy my white paint also peeled but they wont fix it. So i have a shorted out moduleleak in my front and rear windows and a two colored car they should go bankrupt.

All of the dashboard panel lights were inoperable in the vehicle.the dealer examined the vehicle and replaced the head light switch and the connectors.the manufacturer is aware of the problem.*mr

Electrical system malfunctioned, causingturn signals/interior lights to go out. Also problems withtransmission system which slowed downat highway speeds/passenger's door lock which won't open.please provide further information.

The contact owns a 1995 pontiac bonneville.on approximately five occasions, the contact has had to change the instrument panel switch.during the first occurrence, the tail lights stopped working and the switch was repaired.during the second occurrence, the tail lights, backup lights, fog lights, and instrument panel lights all stopped working simultaneously.the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 94v190000 (exterior lighting:headlights).the failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 145,000.

I bought my car as a used vehicle and have had trouble since i bought it.i have had trouble withthe motor, the air conditioner does not work, the cruise control does not work.when it was engaged it would jerk hard ( speed up then slow down) i have no dash lights when i turn on my headlights.my radio lights do not work either when i turn on my headlights.it is dangerous to drive.i need to know what to do to fix this problem.there is also a problem with the passenger door lock.you can not unlock it with the power locks.

I purchased tis car in june 1999. I ask the dealer before i drove it outof the yard if this car had been serviced, they stated it had.i drove the car on tues. The 15, and it stopped. And had to be towed, i was told it was the battery. I was out on sat. The 4th of july and it shut off in the middle of b'way. It had to be towed, i was told it was the altenator, i was leaving the mall in paramus n.j. In aug.1999 and it shut off i called for a tow and got boosted toget home.it shut off on me again in later sept. Each time i was told it was a wiring problem. On november the 22, they picked it up again andi was again told it was a wiring problem. On jan, the 25 i was enroute to work and it shut off and had to be towed, at this time i would not pick it up because i told them i was going to court, because i had been sold a beautiful lemon. The swore i wold not hav e another problem ands i brought it home. Only to find the front defogger was not working and i has told them about it before. On march the 21, i tried to start the car and nothing. They said the battery had corrosion on it . They also said the oil pan needed to be replaced. I found after i purchased the car had been in an accident in the front. I was not told this. Now the saleman that sold it to me is trying to offer me some kind of deal. I truly need some legal advise as soon as possible. Thank you.

Headlights go out while driving.sometimes when the lights are on consumer can't turn them off.also, vehicle is on its third battery.

Battery leaked acid inside the engine compartment. Battery needed to be replaced and the acid cleaned.

I have had this car for just over 1 year, i have had to replace the front breaks 3 times and the rotors 2 times and the calipers 2 times, also the passenger rear wheel cylinder has had to be replaced 4 times and needs to be replaced again, also the drivers side wheel cylinder is in need of repair, all 4 doors will not unlock with the remote and the drivers door will not lock with remote, on third battery for this car and there is still a short somewhere causing a fluxation in the volt meter if the blinker is on, antilock break light will come on and off and breaks have failed several times and make a loud niose if slipping, also have had to replace spark plugs almost every other month and heater blower will come on and off at will.

2 positive electrical battery terminal connectors were held by an unseen bolt. When wiggled the terminals all power was lost.

Problem description:- car dies in traffic at speeds between 5-65 miles/hour.- car will not start- random occurrence.- electrical surges on dash board (momentary lost of electrical power) when car is in motion.- electrical surge accompanies vehicle hesitation while in motion - speed typically 20 mph and above.- cause "seems" to be related to battery cable on positive pole. Replacing battery, but the battery issue still exists.- car hesitation, or dewing in traffic is a great hazard.this has happened about 12 times in past three months - five attempts to remedy and all were unsuccessful.the repair shop reported that a cable issue is a common problem for cable configuration.incident date reported is the last date this problem encountered.*la

The alternator whines loudly at any speed. It functions, but service manager at owings mills pontiac advised me to keep an eye on it.

Loss of complete power on road at turning and speeds above 35 to 40 and at acceleration : passing, etc...computer code reads possible problem with neutral switch atmy mechanics.

While driving, experienced intermittent engine stalling 25-35mph, when turning/crossing intersection, causing power steering, brakes and generator to fail.

Abs brake failure. Also, replaced spark plugs wires.

Vehicle stalls when foot is removed from gas pedal. *aw

Vehicle has been in shop of dealer where purchased, in independent garage, and in local chevrolet dealer's shop. Many parts have been replaced, but problems return. This is very expensive and frustrating!.

While traveling atany speed vehicle would stall. Please provide further information.

My car has developed a cronic problem that has made it unsafe to drive.car stalls suddenly and without any warning, in any driving condition.i loose all electrical and hydraulic power when this happens, leaving me exposed to a major rear-end collision.i have brought it to dealership, even though i am now out of warranty.but even a pontiac dealer can not determine the problem.they have turned the car back to me saying that they can't find problem and that it did not stall for them, only to drive off dealer property and have car stall a mile down road.until this problem is resolved i can not use this car for fear of serious situation.i note that there are a number of instances in nhtsa website of complaints and manufactures service bulliten describing same type of situation.

While driving under any weather or road conditions, vehicle stalls w/dealers not able to duplicate failure with no clue for remedy. Please describe details.

The vehicle experienced the same problem as stated in recall #95 v 204 000, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall, and consequently the vehicle caught on fire. *scc

The body control module that works the door locks and windows.the clutch on the air conditioner.replaced that then the compressor went out.the radio quit .its had a roar in the rear end ever since we got it.they cannot find the problem.the gauges for heat , speed, rpms, oil, etc. Go back and forth when you start the engine then when they stop they don't read correctly.speed doesn't read right. Master cyclinder went out 2 times.

I have 2 complaints. First one would be the ignition itself. I had to have the ignition with microchip key replaced due to broken cylinder and have talked to many people with pontiac who say they also have had that problem. I paid $350.00 to have this replaced so i could operate my vehicle. Second my tail lights, parking lights and dash lights all went out together 3 nights ago while i was driving home. I almost got hit by someone who did not see me and i hadn't noticed my exterior lights out because i was driving but did notice the dash lights go out. My grandfather, father and myself checked the fuses and its not those. We think it may be the dimmer switch that operates the headlights. I will contact pontiac tomorrow to find out if there is some kind of problem with these. Please let me know if there is something so i can have this fixed since i can not drive my car at night for the time being and i have 3 children. Thank you so much!

Engine continually shutting down while driving, replacement of the ecm on final inspection. Mjs

Air bag and power door lock modules short out with puddle of water under front seats caused by leaks in windshield seals.

The wiring harness caught fire.the fire was due to a faulty wire harness behind the steering wheel from the light control switch.the entire switch was melted, especially the wire harness plug hat connected to the wiring harness directly to the switch. *sc

Recall 94v190000/ head lights had not been working, andelectrical wiring had burned.also, dashboard lights did not work.

The exterior lighting did not go off at various times.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who took the fuses out to get the lights off. *nlm

While driving headlights shut off. Checked headlight switch and it had melted.

While driving headlights/ interiorparking, and tail lightswent outintermittently..mechanic took panel off to look at wires, and noticedwires were all melted down.

94 v 190 000/general or unknown component: head lights.vehicle head lights/ tail lights and instrument lightswere going out intermittently. Dealer was notified, and informed consumer vehicle was out of it warranty, and not covered under recall due to vin.feel free to provide us with any further information on this matter.

Recall 94v190000/ head lights had not been working, andelectrical wiring had burned.also, dashboard lights did not work.

I have now replaced the wiring harness (very hard to find!) and had 2 new switches installed for the lighting.i keep losing interior and rear exterior lighting!this is getting expensive to track the problem and repair.help!the car is in otherwise "fairly" sound condition.needs new left front axle.right front axle replaced under warranty.

Headlight dimmer switch defective causing dash board lights and tail lights not too function. In addtion, the malfunction switch caused an electrical meltdown of the pig tail connector into defective switch. I had to replace at my own expense the switch and pig tail conncector. I my opinion, this is a vehicle safety hazard that should prompt a vehcile recall. I have also notice a few other complaints about such defects. My warranty has expired and i had to pay for the repair of the defecitve part and its components. There should be a manatory recall on this vehcile for defective headlight switches. This defect part is a safety hazard, which could cause and electical fire, motorist safety hazard and in addtion to not be able to pass themassachuestts manadorty safety inspection.

Consumer states thatdashlights are not working. Consumer is not able to drive at night.causeunknown.

We have replaced one lighting switch. The wire harness was melted. We asked about a recall on this 2 years ago when it happened. When it goes out we have no tail lights and no dash board lights. By the looks of other complaints we are not alone. With this many complaints about an electrical wiring default where is melts down like ours did or the cause of a fire why is there not a recall on such a dangerous thing. Would they rather be sued and be liable for deaths if a person is caught in their vehicle when it catches on fire. This is definitely an item that needs to be on the recall list.

Tail lights, backup lights, fog lights, and dash lights did not work.the fault wa s the lighting control module which had a recall issued.pontiac wasnot willing to repair the vehicle under the recall 94v190000 concerning headlight failure.these vehicles were assembled with lighting control modules which can experience excessive current leakage due to damaged surface mounting capacitors. This can cause loss of head lamps and parking lamps. Consequence:sudden loss of headlamps can cause reduced driver visibility which can result in a vehicle accident. Also, the head lamps cannot be turned off, or they may turn on while the vehicle is parked, resulting in loss of battery charge and inability to restart the car. Remedy: dealers will replace the headlamp module. Notes:system: lighting; head lights. Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with twilight sentinel lights. Note: if your vehicle is presented to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and the remedy is not provided free of charge within a reasonable time or the remedy does not correct the defect, please contact pontiac at 1-800-762-2737, or oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537. Also, contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

I was going about 25 mph when the truck ahead of me stopped. I hit the brake pedal hard and the brake pedal seemed hard as if it wasn't moving and my car just kept moving forward resulting in rear ending the truck ahead of me. I checked the brake fluid level after the car was towed home and the fluid level looked okay maybe down a little. Have never changed out the brake fluid and had the brakes recently checked by lew scwab tires brakes new brake shoes front and rear brakes okay

In february 2010, driving at 5 mph while making right turn on bumpy blacktop, the engine fell out from under car causing steering to become inoperable.car was towed from scene.upon investigation it was found that 4 (rear) of 6 bolts holding engine cradle to uni-body frame pulled through rusted retainers.all (6) bolts, retainers, spacers and insulators were replaced.the steering linkage was reattached and the clock spring coil kit was replaced (clock spring was torn when steering linkage separated).this incident caused a lot of concern because it could have happened at any speed.towing, repairs and parts cost $805.14.4 months later the steering rack was found to be leaking and was replaced at a cost of $450.no parts have been retained but photos of the bolts in the frame with the engine sub frame hanging are available.naturally the retainers that failed are gone because they fell off when they failed.the engine did not fall entirely from the vehicle because the 2 front bolts were still intact and the upper engine mount held the engine sub frame 2" above the road surface.

Gm technical service bulletin 01-06-01-007a identifies an inherent design flaw on the 3.8 l engine (vin k - rpo l36) available in the following vehicles: 1995-1997 buick riviera 1995-1998 buick lesabre, park avenue 1996-1998 buick regal 1998 chevrolet lumina, monte carlo 1995-1996 oldsmobile ninety-eight 1995-1998 oldsmobile eighty-eight 1998 oldsmobile intrigue 1995-1998 pontiac bonneville 1997-1998 pontiac grand prixgm minimizes the impact of the problem by identifying one of the symptoms as owner complaining of a small coolant leak. The fact is that in most cases the leak is not visible. The coolant typically leaks internally by the egr stove pipe into the engine's intake manifold where it builds up. Eventually the coolant level in the intake manifold rises to the point where the coolant will get sucked into one of the cylinders. In less severe cases, when it happens at idle or low rpm, this causes the engine to seize and stall. In the most severe cases, when it happens at high rpm, the hammering effect of the engine trying to compress a liquid, causes the affected piston to shatter (my case). This is a catastrophic engine failure caused by a design flaw. When this happens on a highway at 75 mph (my case) there is great potential for an accident and injury to passengers. I was lucky, but i still had to replace my engine with a remanufactured one at my expense. I could not afford what gm charged for a new engine.gm is fully aware of the problem. Gm repair centers are attributing the failure to normal wear and tear and are charging owners to replace the flawed parts with the new design. I spoke with a service manager at a local dealership and he stated that he has seen a lot of vehicles coming in with the same failure, the less severe case being the most common..i believe this problem calls for a recall of the affected vehicle to replace the flawed parts. I also believe that gm shouldpartially reimburse me for my expenses related to the engine replacement.

1995 pontiac bonneville engine would suddenly shut off anytime, anywhere, at any speed, usually during warmer weather, leaving the driver with no power brakes nor power steering. The car usually would not start for at least 30 minutes, stranding the driver and passengers.after spending alot of time and money trying to diagnose the problem, we replaced a "functioning" yet defective tps (throttle positioning sensor) that did not malfunction to the point of registering a code on the computer.the problem has not recurred.

Failure of the plenum, intake manifold on 3.8 litre engines.

While driving at any speed the engine produced smoke and it overheated. Please provide additional information.

The transmission failed at ~76,000 miles. Replaced at gm dealer with a remanufactured gm unit.06/23/2001. Brake failure - warning light at 81,728 miles. Replaced master cylinder and rear wheel cylinders. Antilock brakes have always behaved strangely at times but have never failed to stop the car in a reasonable distance.09/22/2001. Engine failure at 82,449 miles. Replacement engine installed at independent repair shop for $1400.00.. Repair leaking genuine gm replacement transmission. Side cover leaks severely, dealer advises out of warranty period and repair cost of $300+ for side pan gasket. Problem solved at local transmission shop (mr. Transmission) for $92.95.in addition the following no longer function or function improperly: fuel gauge does not work, refill based on mileage driven. Also the fuel pump whines very noticeably, can be heard plainly in the vehicle over the radio. Cost for repair of both at dealer: $600+ depending on parts required.steering wheel controls for the radio do not function.automatic headlight control will not turn headlights off after turning them on. Result - battery replacement. Now leave the control in the off position.spring loaded center console door latch failed causing console door to remain open. Replaced console door and two vents that had broken for $124.66.console door latch failed approximately one year later (same failure). Removed door spring so door now stays closed.drivers side door lock jams when using key fob, have to use passenger side door. No longer use key fob, door unlocks properly when using the key.within the past year the paint has began to peel on the top of the rear quarter panels and roof.i had a flat tire and went to retrieve the jack, which is located in the passenger side of the trunk. The jack is stored in a plastic case that is bolted to a bracket.only one weld was made during manufacture allowing the bracket to break loose.the jack case now just lies in trunk.

While driving home, the temperature guage suddenly moved into the red zone and a warning bell sounded, consumer pulled over, opened the hood and saw that the coolant was empty, it was then refilled and consumer test drove the vehicle and the same thing happened, vehicle was taken into dealership and consumer was informed that a coolant system pressure check revealed that the upper intake was leaking coolant into the fuel induction system, serpentine belt was also replaced due to it being cracked/worn.

The electonic climate control on my 1995 pontiac bonneville has stopped working....i get no cooling, only hot air all the time whether the control is set on air conditioning, heating and or if i just want to receive fresh outside air.

Vehicle loosing coolant fluid, having to replace fluid on a daily basis, going to take in for repairs and seen a lot of other people with the same issue. No visible leakage.

Engine failure cylinders filling with coolant.talked with several independent garages and they say it's a common occurrence with the 3800 v6.spoke with pontiac dealer in gainesville ga.according to parts/service department there are no tech bulletins released from gm.wanted to know if there have been other complaints re: 1995 pontiac bonneville's 3800 v6's.according to independent garage the intake gasket and head gaskets failures.the car also has a water leak into the passenger cabin and trunk as well, appears to leaked since it was manufactured.i owned an oldsmobile with a similar problem in 1992 and the factory didn't seal the cowl area properly when the car was assembled. Thanks for your input!

Engine failure on numerous occasions due to failure of the crankshaft angle sensor. Mjs

Driving at 65 mph. Exhaust suddenly began spewing copious amounts of white smoke, which blinded many other motorists moving at the same speed. Engine began running very rough. I pulled over and shut it down. Vehicle was towed to mechanic, where it was diagnosed as a blown head gasket. Head gaskets were changed, as were all others needed to do this repair. Upon re-filling the radiator with antifreeze, it began leaking from unexpected places. Upon further investigation, it was determined that this was yet another case of the upper intake tunnel (plastic) having failed. I called the dealer, and was informed that this part has been redesigned, and due to the huge numbers of these needing to be manufactured and sold, the price has been reduced significantly. The old part had to be turned in to the dealer as a 'core' item.

Bearing in crankshaft went out.

The problem was with the plastic intake manifold.the intake manifold leaked water into the motor and caused it to lock up.the part was replaced.the consumer felt the vehicle should be classified as a lemon. *scc

Car stalls with no warning, sometimes the car will start but 99% of time car has to sit for a long period of time before it will start.if car is turned off and then you try to start it back up it won't start.don't have any idea of what is causing the problem.wouldappreciate it if anyone could let me know how to fix.

Car dies while at stop and while driving-first replaced ? and 2nd the crankshaft; brakes feel like locking up when applying for stop; rpms go from 2 to 31/2 after driving a while at about 70mph

I was told by koons that the head was cracked be either a failed thermostat, gasket or a water pump (all replaced by koons in april 2000). Once they found out the replaced all these items - their story changed to a thousand other excuses. I find it hard to believe that a 5 year old car with the proper maintenance being done to it can blow an engine that easily. Something failed to make the car overheat and crack the head.

Gm technical service bulletin 01-06-01-007a identifies an inherent design flaw on the 3.8 l engine (vin k - rpo l36) available in the following vehicles:995-1997 buick riviera995-1998 buick lesabre, park avenue.1996-1998 buick regal1998 chevrolet lumina, monte carlo1995-1996 oldsmobile ninety-eight1995-1998 oldsmobile eighty-eight1998 oldsmobile intrigue1995-1998 pontiac bonneville1997-1998 pontiac grand prixgm minimizes the impact of the problem by identifying one of the symptoms as owner complaining of a small coolant leak. I was lucky, but i still had to replace my engine with a remanufactured one at my expense.gm is fully aware of the problem. Gm repair centers are attributing the failure to normal wear and tear and are charging owners to replace the flawed parts with the new design. I spoke with a service manager at a local dealership and he stated that he has seen a lot of vehicles coming in with the same failure, the less severe case being the most common. They commonly just drain the affected cylinders and replace the flawed parts with the new design. I asked him how did he know if the affected piston had been damaged causing a catastrophic failure later on. He did not have an answer.

While driving 35mph vehicle started to vibrate when gas pedal was pressed.engine light would come on & then vehicle stalled out. Coasted to side of road. Contacted dealership. Had vehicle towed. Design flaw with spring loaded screws, attaching exhaust pipe to manifold, creates a loud clunking noise. *dsh

As stated many times here-upper intake manifold leaked around metal heat riser tube, leaking water into cylinders causing a vapor lock in cylinders.this problem is often misdiagnosed as head craked or gasket failure.the plastic manifold melts or chafes around tube causing a small hole in the sealed water jacket in the manifold.water will directly leak into cylinder heads.very easy fix and a good upper manifold from a junkyard will run around 100 as opposed to a new engine!

I have a 1995 pontiac bonneville which i purchased used from jim culligan gm pontiac in 1996. After having the vehicle only one month the intake manifold gasket had to be replaced as there was a bulletin on it. It is obvious the dealer knew of this when it was sold. This gasket also had to be replaced at 39000 and 43000 miles and a history note of it was made. Gm has now refused to replace this chronically defect problem at the 65000 mile and 84000 mile levels. The current gasket needed replacing with only 22000 miles on it. This type of part should not go this frequently and prevents a safety hazard should the oil leak out and cause engine failure while driving. Gm is trying to say that because the vehicle has 84000 miles on it they will not pay. However this part should have been replaced after only 22000 miles on it. It is clear that gm is acting in bad faith and ms desiree richardson at gm customer service and moiz ahmad the area service manager refused to accept this problem. Mr ahmad will not even give me the courtesy of a call to show him the documentation i have and explain his decision. I have spoken to several mechanics who have all advised me gm is well aware of this problem and they replaced the defective part with even more defective parts. I have already to pay approximately $300 out of pocket to replace this intake manifold once and am now looking at having to do it again. This is a financial burden on my family and very unethical on gm's part to not own up to this well documented problem and be responsible. Your immediate attention to this problem would be greatly appreciated.j.pierino.*la

1) defective primer causing white exterior paint to peel on the whole surface of car2) leak in wield around windshield and rear window causing electrical shorts in power door locks and also airbag module under driver and frontpassenger seat.

Electric door locks will not lock or unlock front door with remote or button on door panel.when door is locked the key will not open door either.you must use remote and crawl thru back seat.

Keys will not unlock vehicle doors.keyless entry will only open rear doors.driver must crawl over rear seats in order to unlock front doors.if keyless remote fails complete there will be no access.

When using the remote control to release the trunk lid, it would fly up real quickly an d without warning. The trunk lid would hit an individual if standing too close.

Failure on the trunk on the vehicle, the trunk does not stay down, and the turn signal on the vehicle does not work.

Difficulty of transmission going into gear.

The car was in park and the car rolled across the highway and hit several signs and the airbag did not deploy. Please describe.tt

After driving in third gear ,shifted vehicle into overdrive, the vehicle will not shift unless ignition is turned off. The manufacturer statesthat this is normal for this particular engine and transmission.

Transmission went out when i used the passing gear. Gears began slipping and i could not pass the vehicle. I pulled over and tried to put car in reverse and it would not engage. Was able to drive to next town about three miles in first gear at abot 25 mph.this occurred on a vacation trip to florida. The car was towed to a pontiac dealer in manning sc santee motor co. Inc.452 n brook st.zip 29102 phone 800-948-6080. I doubt that i have used the passing gear more than a dozen times during the life of the car. It hard to bekeive that the transmission would go that easily after only 62,00 miles. I have kept up with the service on the car faithfully having had my mechanic give my car a thorough check before taking this trip even buying new tires although i still had faurly good tread on them.

Transmission failed. *sd

Was driving andfelt as if transmission was kicked out of gear andinto neutral. Shifted into another gear andsame problem happened.shifted into another gear and it was the same. Finally, only gear left waslow gear. Vehicle was coasting. Had not driven or reversed. Managed to get to a parking lot. Had vehicle towed. Was informed thatr transmission had blown andwas not repairable.

Gm tsb describes the exact condition and cure.gm would not help with repair. The problem was a defective part ,the repair was to installapart that has a different maching process and harder valves.

The problem started about 2 weeks ago, car took off and brakes were as hard as a rock, the only way to control car was to put in neutral.this last time i was on a freeway in southern calif. And the car took off again and i ended off the freeway in a vacant field to stop the car. I was afraid of going into a residental area. The first incident was reported and the car was checked out at a local gm dealership, and nothing was found.the car is there now again and they have found nothing.the car has an extended warranty and they have had it for 3 days.oddly enough when i called aaa to tow me out of the field this last time the dispatcher stated that her mom's buick does the same thing.gm is making it sound like this is unheard of and they have no idea what is going on, yet on the internet there seems to be other cases.

Traction control for abs system failed. Mjs

Traction control is turning off whenever vehicle is moving. Traction control off light does not come on when vehicle is at idle and stationary. On off switch will not turn on traction control when it has come on by itself. To turn off traction control off dash light you must restart vehicle. It will stay off until vehicle moves approximately 300 to 500 feet then will come on again.

Traction control turns off when the vehicle is in motion.randomly occurs after traveling several hundred feet.higher incidence at time of automatic gear shift into 3rd gear. Can not be reset by traction control switch - must come to full stop and turn off engine.with rapid acceleration and maintaining speed at 55 mph or above "traction control off" light will not come on. Drop down to ~50 mph and light comes on. Gm dealer claims npf but problem occurs almost each time out for me. Another dealer claims replacement of tc module necessary - service tech tells me it is common problem to 95 & 96 bonnevilles.

Vehicle rolls backwards when put in drive.

Driver's seat belt webbing is shredding where belt goes into retractor.

Driver's seat collapsed into back passenger's compartment when vehicle was at a stop and rearended at 40 mph impact.

While driving and making a sudden stop the driver's seat moves forward which may cause loss of vehicle control.also problems with inner panel which comes out, causing the window to shake vigorously and may break.cause unknown.please provide further information.

I was going about 25 mph when the truck ahead of me stopped. I hit the brake pedal hard and the brake pedal seemed hard as if it wasn't moving and my car just kept moving forward resulting in rear ending the truck ahead of me. Rear left wheel cylinder leaking and was replaced for a second time first time replaced at 19,725 miles, at that time both rear wheel cylinders were replaced under warranty (1/98), now on 9/27/00 the extended warranty only covers replaced the failed part, my concern is shouldn't they replace both wheel cylinders at the same time, especially from a safety perspective, the dealership and gm warranty people are telling me it's not necessary to replace both wheel cylinders, replacing one is ok and doesn't pose a threat for safety. Is this true and i am concerned that one wheel cyclinder became defective again only after 23000 miles were put on the car, this concerns me. Thanks

I was driving with my children and went to make a right turn and the steering wheel lock i had to put it in park then reverse to make the turn went down a ways came to a stop sign as i proceeded it sounded a s though i hit something and the steering wheel became flimsy i couldn't steer at all it just kept going around in circles so i stopped the car a police officer came i had to call a tow truck long story short the bushing must have fell off because it was so rotted which in turn the k frame broke and the motor dropped down.

1995 pontiac bonneville my stsering wheel was making a clunking noise then when driving home i turned the corner going right my lower sub frame dropped out from rusted bolts and lost all control! no steering at all. Still shaking.can't believe theres a recall for headlights recall but no steering urecall .i called pontiac and registered a complaint . For now i have to pay for repairs but what if was my life and not money i lost.these cars should be recalled immediately. The police had to come and direct traffic around my car while i sat there shaking.

The contact owns a 1995 pontiac bonneville. The contact stated that the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal popping noise when making right turns. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the engine cradle bolts were severely corroded. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 143,705.

Consumer pulled outfrom a stop andheard a loud popping noise.the driver had no steering ability, and vehicle had to be towed to mechanic.

I was driving my 1995 pontiac bonneville and was taking a right on to a main street, when i heard a loud bang. The rear body frame suspension on the driver and passenger side drop, causing the steering linkage to disconnect, leaving me with 0 steering capability. After further investigating, the frame had rusted around the bushing and bolts holding up the suspension. This in turn, pulled the steering linkageout from the steering component.

While driving vehicle at 65 mph the steering wheel locked up and owner had to regain control of the vehilce which almost resulted in an accident.

Steering wheel dislodged from steering column/ also heard popping noise.

Have an occasional popping or banging in steering wheel column, can feel vibration/knocking in steering wheel;steering column shaft replaced, problem still exist

Consumer states that when driving the vehicle a pop came from the steering column and the steering wheel felt like it came a loose from the steering column, making driving very difficult. The steering wheel has been replaced.

The bolts that hold the power steering unit to the engine broke off. Dealer alleged brake fluid in unit caused problem. Car repaired at owings mills pontiac. Oil leak looses about a quart of oil per 3-4000 miles. This has been occuring longer than i reported, but outside the 36,000 mile warranty.

The bolts that hold the power steer pump stressed out and cracked, causing steering difficulty, and may have resulted in an accident.please provide further information.

Power steering pump bolts broke. Also replaced serpentine belt.

Power steering pump mounting bolts broke. Pump fell off and lodged in engine compartment. If car had been moving at the timeof failure serious injury or death is likely.

Power steering pump is attached to the engine block on the firewall side, and the front of the engine.attached with 2 8mm bolts which broke off flush with the block.after repair which i performed since the car was out of warrenty.the same failure repeated two weeks later.then after a 3000 mile trip, failed again.the mounting point of the pump was changed in 1995 from on top of the engine to behind and lower on the front.i feel that either the bolts used are not strong enough or that one of them was cracked on original assembly of the engine.if this had happened at speed in heavy traffic, the results may have been different.

Power steering pump bolts broke, causing damage to engine mount, upper strut mount, serpentine belt, heil coil, and engine frame.

While driving bolts that hold power steering pump to the engine broke, causing pump to fall, resulting in vehiclelosing power steering.please provide details.

While driving the power steering pump broke free from the motor , causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle is currently at the dealer.

Consumer had to replace 2 rod kits and shaft for rack and pinion steering. While turning corners vehicle was making a clunking noise that has gotten progressively worse.consumer concerned about loss of steering control.

While driving in a parking lot noticed a problem with the steering.the tow bolts that hold rack andpinion steering broke off the frame.contacted dealer.

The paint started pealing on my car, just for no apparent reason. First the top, then the hood and fendors. Gm said there was no recall on paint or problems?

Air bag and power door lock modules short out with puddle of water under front seats caused by leaks in windshield seals.

The paint clear coat has been pealing onthe car for several years for no apparent reason. Firston the top, then on the hood, and fenders. I have a 1994 pontiac grand prix without such damage, yet has been under identical circumstances.

The exterior paint on the vehicle is "flaking off", something that the auto body shop refers to as "delamination"... Seems to occur a great deal on 1995 pontiac bonnevilles.

The hood release cable broke internally in the cable guide. When this happens there is no way to open the hood. Not just for repair and maintenance, but emergency situations. The cable is routed between the radiator and the core support. Tye only way to open the hood is to pry it up damaging the hood, the upper core support, and possibly the condensor.

In july 2000, the trunk seal failed resulting in substantual water leakage into the trunk. Water was hidden under trunk lining until entire wheel well was full. On october 1st the 1st tail light literally fell out. Upon inspection we found the second tail light was being held by one plastic piece. The problem is the entire tail light assembly tail lights, brake lights, back indicators, are held on by 4 or 5 bolts affixed to plastic housings. Those housings have all broken off and the entire tail light assembly is left hanging. A danger when driving since they are hanging off the back of the car, and a saafety problem should the wiring fail and no illuminate the tail lights, brake lights, and blinkers. Replacement tail lights are estimated to be $250.00 each and still have the plastic bolt housings which will undoubtably break again.

Subframe dropped out, causing loss of steering.

While driving and making a sudden stop the driver's seat moves forward which may cause loss of vehicle control.also problems with inner panel which comes out, causing the window to shake vigorously and may break.cause unknown.please provide further information.

My nephew was driving his 1995 pontiac bonneville and turned into a driveway. At that time, the rear body to subframe mounts failed, as the bolts pulled through the mild steel retainer disks that had been weakened by rust caused the rear of the subframe to drop away from the body of the car, pulling the steering shaft out of its socket.this caused an immediate and total loss of steering. It seems likely that a weakened mount retainer disk might fail under vehicle acceleration at higher speeds.the mounts were replaced with new ones, which appeared to be made of mild steel. The shape of the part is such that it seems likely water and road salt would collect and weaken the part. Stainless or another alloy might be a better choice.

The car pulls to one side during acceleration. Please describe further.tt

Two dealers, & two independent cannot find problem- it is intermittent every 100 miles or so.i have contacted pontiac cust asst four times and ceo of gm - no response.

The paint is in excellent condition except for the right rear wheel well which is very unusual!unfortunately, no one has been willing to assist me with my problem.

While driving 35mph vehicle started to vibrate when gas pedal was pressed.engine light would come on & then vehicle stalled out. Coasted to side of road. Contacted dealership. Had vehicle towed. Mechanic could not resolveproblem. Restarted vehicle & then cut off again. Took to different dealer for repairs. Stalling out or cutting off problem still exists. Been at dealership over a month.

While traveling intermittently check engine light would flash right after engine would stall.after stalling the vehicle cannot always start up immediately.the cause of the problem has not been found and still exists. *ml

The problem with my car is the paint. I own a white 1995 pontiac bonneville, which i bought new on nov23,1994. I've taken the car back to the dealership where purchased and was told that there was a defect in the undercoating process and that my car was going through the process known as delamination of the paint or better known as peeling of the paint. The body shop manager said that my car was in excellent shape and was a car that was well taken care of. I've written to the pontiac customer assistance center and received a reply back from a michael goonan. Spoke to a rep. At the pontiac customer assistance center and was given a service request number: 1-41426281. I even wrote(and sent pictures) a letter to john f smith jr. Chairman/ceo and received a phone call on nov.27 from andrew drucks who says he is an executive assistant from gm in detroit. All three (3) people told me the same response: sorry. Your warranty is up and that there is nothing that they can do for me...that the car is almost 8 years old and has 63,000 plus miles on it. They claim that the warranty is up for paint and that i would have to foot the bill to correct the problem. My question is: why should i have to pay for repairs when gm knew about this problem years ago? how was i to foresee when the paint was going to start to peel. No one could have predicted when this was going to happen. The paint is peeling on the roof of my car and has visible signs that it will happen on the hood, trunk, and spoiler. These are the common areas for this to happen. Paint does not just peel the way this paint is peeling. This car is well maintained. General motors should stand behind their products no matter how long it takes before the paint starts to peel!!!!! thank youjoseph todaro, 169keeganslane, staten islandn.y. 10308(718) 966-7685,[email protected]
