As noted in previous statements this vehicle is difficulty at starting and cranking at various situation. Playing the radio with engine off, must wait ten minutes before attempting to start, then it may crank or you have to start over. Its not the radio its the ignition lock cylinder as done in the past. It doesn'tmatter, stop, or moving it has done all you mention, and with the lights off at night you can injured a pedestrian or ourselves. This car was recall and it was said to have been fix but here we stuck here from 04/07/17 possibly will get help from the nearest gmc car dealer on 04/10/17. Will be driving down the road and horn starts going off, all the electricals flash off and on.windows, door locks, and rear hatch becomes non operational.only way to stop is to pull over immediatly and shut car down but not always effective.alarm will go off all on it's own sporadically.

Can not remember specific date1.the change the oil lamp came on and vehicle was taken to dealership to change oil.shortly thereafter we noticed the change the oil lamp would come on.the vehicle was taken back to hall in hampton roads and the lamp was turned off but the original chiming for signaling the door is locking ceased.when the vehicle was taken back to fix this error we were informed that pontiac technicians could not fix and could not give any reason for this change.2.a portable dvd player was hooked up to the vehicle from the plug in located between the two front seats and the tape attachment was inserted into the tape deck.the vehicle was running for about 1 to 1.5 hours with the portable dvd player when an error code and security code came on.the device was immediately disconnected from the vehicle.thereafter the vehicle when turned off the radio would turn on by itself with out key in ignition, the gages although on full and vehicle running would not move, airbag icon would blink and chiming was dim.upon taking vehicle to dealership it was found that the body control module went bad with no further explanation.3.one week after getting vehicle from number 2 above the vehicles battery worked but would not turn over and the plug in located in number 2 above were not working.it was found that the power tran control module and fuel sensor needed replacing and that a switch in the console area from number 2 above needed fixing.

My tailgate began not opening and then all of my electric panel lights went out, windows locked up, radio locked, security light on. I am told that the wire harness in the dash went bad and there was a cost of over $400 to repair the wiring.

Vehicle dash goes crazy service engine light and change oil light will not go off.many diagnostic tests no popped code nor bad fuses. Now security warning and anti theft turns on my vehicle goes on lock down no ac, windows and doors lock down i can not get out. This has happened two times. Also newest thing is my vehicle shut of in mid drive, good thing i was in my driveway otherwise it could have been very bad accident. This is a on and off thing no warning. Now three time incident, but 1st for vehicle shut off engine.

Random electric issues where doors won't unlock, hatch won't open, security system goes off, radio goes into security mode.dealer identified the body control module shorted.gm will not warranty.

Vehicle has electrical problems. Doors would not open anddashboard lights flickered on and off. Vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6/10/2003.repairs were done to the body control module.on 6/11/2003 vehicle wouldn't start.

Service engine light on. Taken to pontiac dealership, told it was the ecm (electronic control module) had gone bad. The ecm wiring harness plugs into a receptacle on the under carriage of the car (on drivers side, in between the front and rear seats), which is exposed to the weather elements and road debris.corrosion caused the malfunction.no repair available.$934 repair cost to fix/replace entire ecm harness.i went to the aztek owners website and saw several hundred complaints regarding this same item.some complaints were about the ecm and the bcm (body control module).ecm supposedly controls all the electronics with the brain/computer of the vehicle.since a car cannot be inspected with a service engine light on, i was forced to have it repaired$$.two days later, the awd disable light has come on.the repair agency stated the diagnostic reveals that the awd is fully operational, and no way to reset the awd light! also, the awd disable light is not an extension of the recently repaired ecm (according to the repair facility), ironically, the ecm deals with all electronics!!maybe i need a good lawyer? the car performs adequately, but if i want to trade it or sell it some day, i am going to take a "hit" due to the awd light being on.your website shows no other recalls on this vehicle.i hope this information i type does some good someday. *additional note:vehicle was not repaired at dealership, but was repaired by certified repair shop for $825.

Problem started after dealer repair & replacement of a/c compressor and condenser, lower intake gasket leak, & fuel pump replacement. The day after these repairs battery was found to be completely dead. After battery recharge, approx. A week or two later on switching from bright to dims all lights and accessories went off including headlights &dash lights within a few seconds all came back on and instrument cluster id lights as if ignition was turned off and back on again although engine remained running. Since then we have been to dealer 3 times for this repair since june 6, 2006 and have to return for yet a fourth time as it is still an ongoing problem. Dealer has replaced an ignition switch, multifunction switch and main module. Since this happens at random they say they are having problems tracking the problem.

At 51,000 miles engine overheating when stopped at traffic lights.added antifreeze, but did not fix the problem.at same time ac failed.then electrical system started failing.alarm going off for no reason, doors locking and unlocking themselves, rear hatch opening, and all gauges lighting up then going blank for 5 - 10 seconds.took to dealer who stated that i had a failure in the intake manifold gasket,a leaking fuel filter, a shot ac system, and needed to replace the body control module.dealer also stated that they have had to do the same work on many azteks.took to my regular mechanic for verification and repair ($600 less than dealer wanted).paid $1156 for intake manifold, fuel filter, and ac check.mechanic doesn't believe that there is anything wrong with the ac system, but the problem is related to the body control module.can not fix the module at this time - have been given estimate of $800.seems to me that this module is a safety issue and that nhtsa should issue a recall and have gm reimburse those that have already had the problem fixed.this issue has been brought up by many aztek owners both on this site and others.it is really alarming to be driving at highway speeds when suddenly all the gauges go blank, even if just for a few seconds, not to mention doors locking and unlocking themselves and the alarm going off for no reason.by reading other complaints i should look forward to replacing wheel bearings also.please look into this and do something about it.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac aztek. While driving 45 mph, the alarm system sounded, the locks operated on their own, and the trunk opened without being prompted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 180,000.

I have a 2002 pontiac aztek i cannot drive, we believe the problem is the body control module. 3 mos. In shop, technician called pontiac, dealerships, searched online trying to isolate the problem.i stumbled on www.edmunds.com, was stunned by the #'s of azteks with this problem.the symptoms leading to failure of the bcm-back hatch won't open-key nor button. Eventually it begins working again, but the hatch pops open randomly while the car is in motion, the door locks start turning on and off, the air conditioner blows warm air, the fan won't work.allwhile the car is in motion.also, the doors will not lock, the windows will not roll down. The check engine light alternately flashes with a security warning, the odometer quits working.when you turn the car off, all the lights stay on until the battery is drained.none of the dashboard controls work, the only way to turn the lights off and disengage the other electronics is to disconnect the battery.taking it in for diagnostics produces no results, there is no reading from the computer that will tell a technician what the problem is.having this failure is a safety issue, a child could open the back doors while the car is in motion, the inability to lock the car is a safety risk to all, the back hatch opening while in motion randomly is also a safety concern.another issue with the aztek isto open the back hatch with a key requires power to that particular lock, if the lock isn't getting power from the battery, it will not open.i think there are serious safety issuesthat pontiac should take responsibility for.you can read the number of posts on the edmunds.com website...this is only one site, i am sure there are many others.there is a windshield wiper issue, they will quit working, get tangled during a heavy snow or rain storm.

I have a 2002 pontiac aztek and there's a ticking noise in the motor and the oil is good and all the other fluids are good. My a/c stop working andthe back hatch doesn't unlock sometimes and to fix the problem i have to disconnect the battery for about 15mins or longer for it to work , can you tell me what could be the problem and how to fix it .

Numerous problems concerning 2002 pontiac aztek. Brakes, wheel bearings, flywheel and tires.*la

It began with my rear hatch not working on my 2002 pontiac aztek.then the ignition began sticking and culminated with the alarm going off (while driving) and all electrical systems shutting down with increasing frequency.when this occurs, all gauges are shut down, the doors are disabled, headlights (all lights) are disabled.i've looked online and talked to the dealership.it will cost between $400-$500 to repair (gm is aware of the problem).the dealer says that it is not a safety issue, but it seems like non-functioning lights, gauges and doors/windows would certainly be a safety issue.i do like to car, but this is a major problem -- one which i can ill afford to fix right now.we are just struggling to keep a roof over our heads!

The car key can be removed after the car has been started.the vehicle can be driven without a key in the ignition.

Dt: consumer says body module has blown three times on vehicle. Consumer was on parkway when body module blew out, and vehicle and everything on car shut down. Engine stopped, all lights started blinking, the hatch popped.the body module blew at 7000 miles/at 17000 miles, and again at 27000 miles. Vehicle was taken to dealerthree times and body module was replaced. First two times module blew was at night, the third was during the day. Also, consumer says that she is having problem with fuel tank popping. Tank is contracting or expanding, and nothing is relieving the pressure slowly. So when the pressure changes quickly it caused noise.consumer says this isdangerous and can cause an explosion.

While drivingdoors would lock and unlock on their own, front driver and passenger windows lowered while driving, andheadlights flashed on/off, causing poor visibilitywhen driving at night. Also, dashboard lightscameon and off.

Drove to work no problems, went to start up to go home 8 hours later and got nothing . Towed home and replace the starter and recharge battery(dead after trying to start it) started with a very loud knock sound from what i think is the top end , took it to dealer where bought it 28 earlier from and they sai dmotor was shot. How can this be with no engine light ever coming on , no over heating .i have been paying a year now on a auto i drove for only 28 days please help ...what is wrong with it or what can i do to get it fixed without costing a bundle (don't have alot cause i have to make payment on my "lemon".

Failure of intake manifold gasket as indicated by check engine light and shaking of vehicle when driving.took to dealer and was determined to need replacement of lower intake manifold gasket.replacement cost was $1200.

The failure was the cooling system. Keep in mind i take good care of my cars. All of a sudden it got hot with no warning signs. After only 47000 miles, my pontiac started to leak coolant from everywhere. So i took it to a pontiac dealer were they seen i needed a new thermostat, water pump, and upper and lower intake gaskets and seals. After it was all said and done. I had to pay 1,200 dollars !

Front left bearing & hub assembly replacement at 31,277 miles.front right bearing & hub assembly replacement at 49,482 miles.replace leaking head gasket at 39,931 miles.this car is also on it's 3rd set of tiresi'm not getting any reasons why on this either - the dealership where i bought the car told me "tires are like brakes-some just wear out faster than others." i don't know if the hub problems added to the tire wear or not - the wheel actually wobbled on the car before it was repaired. 1st set replaced at about 20,000 miles. 2nd set replaced at about 28,000 miles. I have called pontiac several times over the last 2 years about car repaires & tire wear. I was told these things are just maintenance!i considered the brake job at 39,931 miles maintenance but not hubs & a head gasket.also, i have had the car in for heating problems. In very cold weather, you need the blower on high & the heat setting on high - even then, you are still cold. There is alot of outside air coming in the front of the car (not sealed very well)

2002 aztek front left wheel bearing and cups needed to be replaced, a coolant leak developed, replaced intake manifold gasket and the engine oil light would not turn off due to broke wire under air cleaner box .***no answer required***. *mrthe rear spoiler reduces visibility through the rear window and power door switch does not unlock the rear door latch, had to be unlocked using the key.

Dt:the caller saidengine servicelight was on. When she took vehicleto the dealer, they said they fixed it. The callersaid after picking up thevehicle thatthe passenger side headlight was missing. The dealer said it was stolen.the callersaid the vehicle will not pass inspection. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac aztec. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the head gasket overheated on the vehicle. He noticed that the vehicle would overheat by the temperature gauge rising on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who informed the contact that he would need to replace the head gasket. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 111,000.

2002 pontiac aztec - 55,000 miles.intake manifold gasket leak found today by local oil change shop.oil residue leaking into coolant system (residue on inside of radiator cap).same problem that canadian residents are currently submitting class action lawsuit for.repair estimate $900 - $1,100 for gm's engineering oversight!

My pontiac aztec uses the dexcool orange coolant and has 60,000 miles.i noticed that the temperature of the vehicle has become erratic and began to research the issue i read an article stating that the coolant become brown and turns to sludge in the radiator after further inspection i have found that this is the case with my 2002 aztec. This is known to cause blown head gaskets and engine damage.

I have had three major problems with my aztek.when the vehicle was only a few months old, the computer system went out and had to be replaced.this, of course, was covered by the warranty, but was a harbinger of things to come.both the condenser and the compressor had to be replaced, neither of which was covered by the warranty; i was within the allotted time, but had a few hundred more miles on the vehicle than what was allowable.very expensive.shortly after that, i began to have trouble with transient overheating.thinking that the thermostat might be sticking, i took it to the dealer, who at first said nothing was wrong with the car.when i went to pick it up, they told me that they had discovered that the intake manifold gasket was leaking and that the car was now inoperable.the remedy due to labor was close to $1000.i was quite upset, and told the dealer that, since they had sold me this car, which has had numerous problems, that i thought they should either fix it or provide me a fair trade.they told me that the car, which i paid $26k for, is now only worth about $6k because of its poor resale value.i really feel like a victim and that the lemon laws should be revised to include vehicles that have multiple system failures.

The air compressor went out on this vehicle with 32,000 miles and at approx. The 38 month of ownership.gm has tsb's that talk about this problem but when your over the warranty period tsb's don't fix things totally.gm agreed to replace the part but left the labor bill for the me to pay.this part is defective and should be documented here by more owners instead of aztek.com sites.the old part has been replaced and is not available.

The intake manifold developed a leak.service tech indicated that this was a very common problem in this type of gm engine.he has done dozens of similar repairs.the local dealer also undervalued my car's trade-in value without knowing there was a leak.it was not visible.they indicated that "just based on the engine i'll almost certainly have to replace the manifold gasket."the sales rep said this was standard because of all the failures they've seen.

5/04condenser replaced under warranty7/05 condenser again ripped not under warranty5 times my hub was replaced that holds the bearings in the wheels.

Battery light illuminated and vehicle started to lose power.*mronce the vehicle was on the shoulder, it completely died. After waiting for 30-40 min. For assistance, the consumer was able to restart the vehicle. The firestone mechanic informed the consumer the failure occurred as a result of the computer failing to communicate with another part. On the other hand, amechanic from the pontiac dealership stated the failure could have occurred as a result of loose cables. The consumer disagreed because the vehicle started up after approx. 30 minutes. The consumer would like to be reimbursed for expenses paid to firestone tire & service centers for diagnoses.*ph

Loud knocking noise in engine. We had it in the shop twice so they could remove and disassemble the engine and replace all six pistons, rod bearings and gaskets.first time at 34,000 miles, second time at 46,000 miles.currently at 51,000 miles and engine noise is back.front left wheel bearing went out at 41,000 miles. Left front wheel bearing went out at 51,000 miles.fly wheel rattles.rear hatch only works intermittently after 2 repairs.

Truck will maintain acceleration, sticking while braking or normal driving.this failure had been checked by dealership which reassured owner problem was fixed. Truck parked in owner's garage not being moved.on three different occasions, the vehicle drives without using acceleration.the brake is used to control the vehicle.after the third repair, consumer is afraid to operate the vehicle.the vehicle also had a fuel gauge fluctuation.the warning bell chimes at different levels before the gasoline is exempt from the tank.the check engine light illuminates.for this matter to be resolved, consumer would like pontiac to buy the vehicle back.*jg

Dt*: the contact stated the temperature gauge on the vehicle rose above normal while parked.the contact filled the water tank, which cooled the vehicle for 30 minutes.however, the temperature rose again.the vehicle was taken to a private repair shop, who determined there was a leak in the intake manifold gasket.there were no immediate repairs made.

My vehicle has repeatedly over heated so that i have to pull over on the interstate, after having the thermostat replaced, the vehicle continued to over heat so therefore i took it to the dealership where purchase. I was told i have a leak in the manifold gasget.while online researching this problem i came upon a website that indicated that a leaking manifold gasget is a commom problem with my type of vehicle along with other types made by gm

Dt: the vehicle was overheating to the point to where consumer actually had to pull offthe road. The dealer told her that there was a internal leak in the intake manifold gasket. She has done research and found that this is was common problem for the type of engine and model that she owned. Also, while doing research she learned that this problem was occurring between 60,000-80,000 miles. She found two websites with complaints from other aztek owners. In addition, when coming to a stop, the heat stopped coming from the dash vents.dealership purged an air pocket found in the cooling system.the consumer and manufacturer was able to come to some sort of compromise regarding the cost of replacing the intake manifold gasket.*sb

Air conditioning condensor leaking, on our 2002 pontiac aztek, heard from repair shop that this is the 4th one so far this week wondered if we contacted the dealership.

Had to replace 5 wheel bearings ac condensers rear latch does not unlatch at times dealer said they put on a stronger spring still only works half the time. Transmission went out at 70,000 driver door gets out of line because of hinge bending.

My a/c condenser coil has a leak. The a/c unit when out at 45000 mile. I call g.m. They said they had no complaints on the a/c unit. They will not repair this a/c condenser because it isn't a safety issue. This is bad bussiness for a truck that is only two year old. This a 2002 atzek. I call the dealership service department and talked to a service tech. He told me that they already had servel pontiac aztek in for a/c repair work on the condenser coils.

Dt: the right air conditioner condensor, near the bottom, is cracked along the bottom. Took to the dealer and he has seen other ones similar on the aztec and the montero.

The air conditioner condenser had to replaced after it corroded and began to leak coolant at 47k miles.mechanic indicated that this was the second repair this week completed on this gm engine type.he has done dozens of similar repairs.

Fourth trip in to fix a/c. Radiator, condenser, etc. Replaced to the tune of $2,000+.finally a/c works but now water appearing on the passenger side floor.two trips in to fix and still cannot find source.

2002 pontiac aztek a/c condenser had a leak and needed to be replaced.***nar***

Will be driving down the road and horn starts going off, all the electricals flash off and on.windows, door locks, and rear hatch becomes non operational.only way to stop is to pull over immediatly and shut car down but not always effective.alarm will go off all on it's own sporadically.

The passenger side, low beam, headlight has stopped working. The bulb, fuses, and wiring connections have been examined and all appear to be fine. Approximately a month later the stereo electronically locked itself as if it had been placed in another car without a matching vin.i have been pulled over by the police for a headlight out.upon entering a search online i see many instances where other owners have reported electrical problems with these vehicles.some include flashing headlights, failure of door locks, stereos and security lights turning on/off.i see from the various posts that some owners have replaced the bcm as well as wiring harness' that have moisture.there doesn't appear to be a solid fix as i see some posts are recurring. Thankfully i have only received warnings from police about my failed light, however, i don't expect it to remain that way.while a loss of a stereo or electric locks are a convenience loss, the loss of and/or intermittents headlights are a true safety hazard.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 45 mph the driver side headlight flew off without prior incident.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the headlight was replaced.

The headlights have suddenly stopped working when the steering wheel tilt is in the lowest 2 positions.i called gm to see if there was a service advisory for this and they said no. They advised i take it to the dealership for diagnosis which will cost at least $90.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac aztek. While the contact was examining his vehicle, he noticed that there was fuel in the garage. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and the contact noticed that he also smelled fuel when he drove the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 60,000.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac aztek.the fuel tank has a crack near the fuel filler neck.the contact smelled fuel outside the vehicle while parked.the pontiac dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in recall number 07v-349.the fuel system was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 80,000.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac aztek.the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for tire service.the technician observed a small amount of fuel spilling from the fuel tank.the vehicle was inspected and a hole was found in the fuel tank.the vehicle has not been repaired.the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v349000 (fuel system, gasoline;storage), although the failures were identical.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 98,000 and current mileage was 98,415.

2002 pontiac aztek.consumer writes in regards to fuel odors and leaks by the fuel tank inlet.consumers internet search found an expired recall bulletin for the same issue, requests assistance with repairs. The consumer noticed the fuel smell was stronger after he filled up.

We own a 2002 pontiac aztek.on sunday, december 16, our car would not start and could not be jumped by aaa.we had it towed to the aaa-approved service station we use for all repairs.after replacing the starter, they told us that there was also a leak with the fuel inlet seal.it being the week before christmas, we were unable to repair that day.after going on the internet to research the price of the part, we discovered that there was a recall in effect for this vehicle for this specific reason.we called the pontiac number listed in the recall notice.the customer service person looked up the recall (after i gave her the number as she was unable to find anything) and said that it did appear our vehicle was subject to recall but that it would have to be diagnosed by a pontiac/gm dealer.we located one nearby and she put me on hold to call them.when she came back on she said after further review that our vehicle was not subject to the recall because it only affected certain vehicles within the 2001-2004 years whose vins ended with 2s549384 through 2s608951.when i pointed out that my vehicle fit those parameters, she said it was not subject to recall based on gm parameters, but would not or could not give me what the exclusion parameters were.

Leaky fuel pressure regulator caused starting difficulty consistent with symptoms described in nhtsa campaign id number :04v090000, but my vehicle was not included in that recall.problem persisted for a few months in fall 2007 until diagnosed and repaired by dealer.consumer charged $184.85.

Dt*: the contact stated after smelling gasoline and noticing a leak on the driveway, the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined there was a fuel leak in the gas inlet valve.

The contact owns a 2002 pontiac aztec. The contact stated that there was an unusually strong odor of gasoline emitting in the front exterior and interior cabin of the vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate or locate the origin of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an unrelated repair where the mechanic noticed that the fuel filler was fractured and leaking gasoline. The contact was advised that there were recalls on her year, make and model vehicle for the identical failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 07v349000: fuel system, gasoline storage); however, the manufacturer stated that her vin was not included in the recall. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 165,577.

Dt*:the contact stated for six months the smell of gas was present in the vehicle. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway, a gas leak was observed.the dealer determined a crack in the neck of the fuel tank created the problem.

The fuel inlet had a crack. As a result, excessive fuel leaked onto the ground.with no warning, the weld between the fuel tank inlet check valve and the fuel tank failed.part# 10323136 serial# 116864 build date 6/2/02. *sc 8jb

Gasoline leaks from the tank at the junction of the filler tube and tank. Gasoline drips onto the pavement, smells terrible, and is a major fire hazard.

I began to smell gas on or about october 16, 2006.i replaced the gas cap, as i thought it may just be worn.this unfortunately did not solve the problem.the smell became extremely strong-i could smell it inside the car and got a severe headache.i took the car to a shop.i was told the gas tank was plastic, and was cracked!i bought this car in november of 2005 as a "certified used vehicle".i feel it is dangerous to have a vehicle that the gas tank does not last a few years.

Fuel tank filler sprayed fuel onto exhaust pipe while under normal interstate driving conditions. My wife smelled an electrical burning smell about 10 minutes prior to the fire while fueling at a service station. She dismissed it since there was a nearby construction crew that was burning trash in barrels. She thought perhaps it was something they were burning. After a visual inspection of the vehicle, we continued on.

The location of the unsealed fuel tankfiller valve allowed an object to come in contact with it and ripped the connection under the vehicle while driving. This caused fuel to dispense from the tank.

Gas tank is leaking at connector to fuel filler hose.entire gas tank must be replaced.there has been a history of the gas tank making popping noises.

Rear hatchback release does not work properly.requires manual opening while pushing hatch release button.

I have taken my 2002 aztek to the dealer repair shop 6 times with complaints that the rear liftgate/hatch release mechanism does not always work with the remote and interior release buttons, and that it is especially worse in colder weather.repeated attempts to open it have to be made.the first 3 complaints resulted in 3 separately-dated repairs during the first warranty year, but the problem continues.a dealer service agent informed me on april 27, 2004 that a service bulletin by pontiac is out but he did not know the details yet and neither do i.i will follow-up with that information without any assurance.

On august 16, 2004 i purchased a 2002 pontiac aztek from pines pontiac buick in pembroke pines florida, one reason for this purchase was the certified use car sticker and what it meant. Within a few days i went back to the dealer with a complaint of (1) the rear end sounds like it was falling off the vehicle especially when you drove over expansion joints or any thing in the road over a 1/2".the dealership claimed that their was a tsb to replace the ball joint on the rear wheel, i still have the problem today. But of much serious concern is the fact that my vehicle is a veratrak all wheel drive, which was making a moaning noise with every turn left, or right.the car was taken back to the dealer ship numerous times to no avail this was done a few times during the so called warranty period and many times after that. To this day the noise have gotten so bad that it appears on acceleration when i turn into my drive way,any left or right turn.at this point the dealer told me i am out of luck and there is nothing that they can do about it.i am very afraid that soon the rear end will leave me stranded and the dealer have left me holding the bag on what could be a costly repair to me i would appreciate someone looking into this complaint and see if any other owners of like vehicle have experienced the same problem, thank you. Updated 12/7/2005.

While my 02 aztec is in park and car is started i am unable to take out of park to start driving ,i must push button on gear shift a number of times before it will finally go into gear. This happens randomly with no apparent pattern or reason ,although when car is driven frequently it appears less. There is a clicking sound coming from top of steering column when i am attempting to put into gear.

Had to replace 5 wheel bearings ac condensers rear latch does not unlatch at times dealer said they put on a stronger spring still only works half the time. Transmission went out at 70,000 driver door gets out of line because of hinge bending.

The right rear hub assembly was defective.the vehicle did not brake affectively.when applying the brakes it continued on. . this was discovered whilehaving the tires replaced ,the brakes and hub assembly were examined.

Right front hub failure. Had to be replaced by dealer as non warranty, vehicle started making loud whinning noises that would go up and down when car was going over 25 mph. Dealer said this was common for this car.

I was stopped at a traffic signal behind another vehicle.i was rear ended by another vehicle at approximately 40 mph.i was wearing my seat belt.the back of the drivers seat failed, causing me to fall backward and hit my knees on the plastic panels on the underside of the steering column.when i hit the vehicle in front of me, since the seat belt was now slack, the inertia locks were rendered ineffective and i hit the steering wheel, causing injuries to my chest and forearms.i suppose i should be happy that i was not seriously injured or killed, but thefailure of the seat back caused unnecessary injuries.i have pictures if you are interested.

In a hard stop in stop-and-go rush hour freeway traffic, a corroded steel hydraulic brake line failed.this was the line from the abs module to the right front brake. As such it immediately caused a substantial loss of braking ability - i was in the far left lane and i was able to abruptly move to the left shoulder. Had i been in one of the center lanes there would have been a crash, it would have been unavoidable, the rear brakes were still functional and i still had limited braking ability.at the point that this line actually broke, it was spraying brake fluid directly on the exhaust system.i am not certain whether there was a fire, the mechanic says there may have been.there certainly was a lot of smoke.the line in question is secured to the firewall and is routed close to the exhaust at that point. It appears that over time this combination allows corrosion to weaken the line at this particular point.the remaining lines on this vehicle are in good condition and i believe they will last the life of the vehicle.

Antilock brake system fails at low speeds and stoping distance is longer than whenoperating. No accident yet and after 2 repair attempts its getting worse

I have a 2002 pontiac aztek and all four of the wheel bearings went bad with only 45,000 miles on the car.the anti lock brakes come on when you touch the brakes and we've almost been in quite a few wrecks.i've researched some reviews and there are alot of people that are having the same problems that i'm having.thank you for your time.

I was told at my local garage on a recent service visit about abs brakes that the abs brakes on some trucks in canada have recently been recalled?well, i have a 2002 p. Aztec with an abs problem.this individuals son "also" had a abs problem with his own vehicle.my question is are there any recalls on aztec abs brake sensors?if not, it sounds like gm should make one.this is a serious stopping issue!

The problem began with noisy brakes.then all of a sudden when i went to turn a corner the brakes and tires locked up and would not turn. I almost hit several vehicles while i was trying to get this repaired.when hooked to the computer it would not throw anything telling the computer what was wrong.when it got worse it finally threw a code to the computer and said its the wheel bearings which costs $250 per tire.i cannot afford to fix all 4 tires so i have only repaired 2 at this time.hopefully something can be done about this. Recall or reimburse me my $$ for the repairs.this is a dangerous condition for the vehicle!!!!this problem began several months ago. I have found out that the left front has already been replaced once and is defective again!!!!

My 2002 aztek has only 45,000 miles, mostly highway.the rear brakes are making a grinding noise right before coming to a complete stop.i was told by plaza tire that the brakes are not bad, that pontiac has a problem with its braking system and is aware of it the gentleman to whom i spoke stated that the only way he knew to fix the problem was to replace the rotors, calipers and pads, and that he could not guarantee the problem wouldn't reoccur.he stated i should take it to my pontiac dealer and that they should fix the problem, but he did not know if they would since it is no longer under warranty.if pontiac is aware of this problem, they should fix it.

Numerous problems concerning 2002 pontiac aztek. Brakes, wheel bearings, flywheel and tires.*la

The contact owns 2002 pontiac aztek. While driving approximately 30 mph the anti lock brake service light illuminated as well as the traction light. The vehicle became difficult to stop when the brakes were applied. The odometer also malfunctioned. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or to be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

My rear brakes had to be changed the first time at 13,590 miles and i was told it was not covered under my warranty my brakes then had to be replaced on the rear again at 16,473 and since then my brakes have been pads and rotors and brakes have been like changing oil every three thousand miles . I have also had to have my body control module replaced my security control module and my radio ,fuel sensor and windshield wiper sensor and brakes again i currently have a compressor that needs replacement and a air conditioner and heater that are no longer working i have called the bbb auto lineand filed two complaints with them and numerous complaints to my dealer and gm i have been offeredfree oil changes and tire rotations and extended warranty on a car that isanaccident waiting to happen .my hatch does not work correctly i have the ticking noise in my engine and my dash board lights are on or off depending on the moment . I am amazed at how many of these vehicles and there dealers say they will repair and fix the problem then the moment it is out of the shop it is there again . Ithink it will take a tragic accident for pontiac or gm to realize that these vehicles are very dangerous to the family's who own them i have to small children and this is my transportation i would hope it would not have to takea horrible accident before people listen to what we have to say . I am very concerned for the safety of my self and my children and anyone who owns one of these .

The problem was with the drivers side rear knuckle on the 2002 aztec.the consumer heard clunking coming from rear when hitting bumps.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised the consumer that there was a bushing failure.this caused a forward/backward movement of the driver's side rear tire 1 1/2-3 inches.after further discussion, the dealer would not cooperate in the purchase of the part/labor.the problem is progressive.the vehicle is regularly maintained and service records are available.*sc

Water leaking in under front dash during rain storms; led to mildew and mold growing on seats, floor, shifter, windows, & doors throughout car.happened several times, thought first time was my fault, next time it definitely was not.*nlm

Now that i've had the car a while, i see that the rear spolier hurts visibility too much. I asked gm to remove it, they won't. It blocks view of headlights of cars behind me at night. Very dangerous.

The clear enamel has been coming off my 2002 aztek very badly...it has been for the past year. Is this normal...the engine bonnet is terrible and all above the doors and hatchback.

Water enters the aztek in under the dash and runs down the on the front passenger side. Only during a long hard rain. *nlm

The dealer had serviced the vehicle several times regarding the driver's side door. The door failed to latch properly and could open when driving.dealer diagnosed the hinges were too weak, which resulted in them coming out of adjustment and caused the door not to lock properly.

Had to replace 5 wheel bearings ac condensers rear latch does not unlatch at times dealer said they put on a stronger spring still only works half the time. Transmission went out at 70,000 driver door gets out of line because of hinge bending.

The driver side door sheet metal where the hinges are bolted to are warping outward.this results in the door being loose, and can fall off at anytime.

My tailgate began not opening and then all of my electric panel lights went out, windows locked up, radio locked, security light on. I am told that the wire harness in the dash went bad and there was a cost of over $400 to repair the wiring.

Knocking noise under driver side tire of a 2002 ponitac aztek.two different gmc dealerships looked at my car and this problem.two different solutions were attempted but the problem still occurs.

I am told by my service man that my wheel bearings are going to need to be replaced in my 2002 pontiac aztek with only 109,000 miles.i was also told by several service people and friends that this is an ongoing problem with azteks. Has there been a recall on this? i did not have an accident yet, my service light came on.

It has cost me 300.00 a bearing, times 5 bearings. What is general motors saying about the problem?
