Dt: instrument panel air bag light will not go off. Dealer says the air bag on passenger side is defective. Dealer says moisture gets under floor mats and gets into wires of air bags. Manufacturer said they would pay half to get it fixed. Has not had problem fixed yet. Consumer thinks it is a manufacturer defect and has concerns for his passengers safety or safety to others.*sb

On 01/05/2002 i rear-ended a 1999 cadillac deville going approximately 40mph.upon impact, my airbags did "not" deploy and my seatbelt did not hold me from hittig the steering wheel with my chest.i had reported to the dealer that i didn't think the seatbelts in the front were working correctly not more than two weeks after purchase.he convinced me that these were newer seatbelts that do not react as sensitive as the older model vehicles.i ended up being transported to the hospital with chest contusions, leg contustions and cervical strain.i have searched your sight and found that the 2001 pontiac aztek has reported problems with passenger airbags not deploying due to no excelerant or deploying too hard due to exessive excelerant.i feel that i am lucky to be alive right now and feel that the threat to other owners of these vehicles is very real and very dangerous.,

Consumer was involved in a head-on collision while driving 40 mph, resulting inair bags not deploying, and causing minor body injuries.

Front crashagainst a solid corner of a building, aprox speed crash 45 mph. Gm did not want to repair or replaced, instead faced a trial where they committed a fraud and other felonious, all of them proven, still after nearly 9 years still facing civil and criminal charges.gm dealer with false statement still now a days keeps the vehicle, same that still can beanalyzed now a days because it has not been repaired.lots of damage caused by gm, dealers, lawyers and expert witnesses.regret very much such a poor behavior of gm, i ma ready to supply as much information as needed, photos, reports, and courts documents that proves their felonious.a gm expertwitness submitted to the court a false report, and also bought the official expert witness of the court, these felonies have already been proved bythe court, that is why now they are facing a civil and criminal charges, for gm if not quality good is the fraud!!!!!

The key can be pulled out or fall out of the ignition cylinder with almost no resistance in the run position, and door ajar, keys in ignition chimes no longer operate after first occurrence of key fallout. Key fallout occurs easier as time goes on, i am unsure of the exact date of first occurrence.

2001 pontiac aztec. Consumer states that he has some electrical safety issues with his vehicle. He has replaced the headlamp switch assembly, instrument control assembly, hva temperature control assembly, fuel pump module assembly and turn signal switch assembly.the lights that illuminated the assemblies burned out and the consumer was unable to see the instrument panel at night.due to the sending unit malfunctioning, the fuel gauge would not register the amount of fuel remaining in the tank. Because the sending unit was a part of the fuel pump assembly, the entire unit required replacement.also, while driving at night with the headlights on, when the consumer activated the turn signal, the high beam lights would come on. Upon turning the signal off, the high beams would also turn off.

Electrical system has been replaced 3 times due to the battery light and engine check light coming on. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 20 times. Please provide additional information.

My car started to run hot as soon as the car was drove about a quarter of a mile, but the fluid wasn't hot. My husband replaced the thermostat, hoses, a cooling sensor, and some other things. When none of that worked, we took it to a radiator shop and they told us we need head gaskets. We have a 2001 aztek and when we got the car in 2004, the gaskets blew but it was under warranty. That is an expensive job. Gm needs to recall this vehicle and give us all some reliable cars and trucks!

Bout 3 weeks ago car just keep acting up had it for one year cant read codes on car keep overheating replaced radiator cvl axle brakes oil change transmission fluid car just decided to not pass 50mph be driveableone day driving it went to a stop sign brake car cut off i see check gauges come on service light on cant read codes to find out anything i think the wiring is mess up replaced started as well just to much only had it for a 1and a half

Dt:the car is having brake problems, and the consumer has been fixing the brakes every since she owned the vehicle. The air conditioner has been replaced 3 times within the first year she owned the car.the car was having sensor problems.in order for the consumer to get her sticker for the year, her car had to be in good shape.the place where consumer bought her car is committing fraud. They didn't do a thorough check on consumer's car before she bought it. There is rust underneath her hood.

This pontiac aztek has electrical problems that cause the entire vehicle to shut down while driving. When it occurs, everything stops working including the steering, therefore making it impossible to steer off the road safely. We have been in 3 near accidents since the vehicle electronic system always seemed to shut down while we were driving on busy highways. The result of the electrical system failure has been 3 burned out fuel pumps (each costing $700.00 to replace), an electrical harness needing replacement and continued electronic failures. All the repairs have been done at my expense. Pontiac refuses to provide any assistance or even assist with finding a remedy to the problem.

My pontiac aztec main power control module (a computer unit controlling every electrical functions in the car including starting the car,car keys function, working every car lights, opening doors, controlling battery output, security system, among others), was defective, dead, and out of order .the events leading up to the failure weresome weak clicks you can hardly hear and you don't know where it is coming fromwhen you stop the car and then it dies out. It sounds like the c.d. Player was ejectingc.d. When the failure happened my suv was like a dead mountain, i was lucky it happen one morning while the car was at a stand still. You put the car key to start it and it gets stuck! you try to jump started but it is not the battery. You cant do nothing to it. Plus, although its an unsafe and dangerous problem,or car part, only the dealer can fix it and nobody else. So after you tow it to them you are under their mercy to tell you whatever they like to tell for how much it will cost to be fixed, and when it will be fixed, it is like a monopoly, and it is not fair. What if that module dies while you are driving in the middle of a highway? and what if it dies while doors are looked, you are driving, it looks the driver in inside the car, and you cant get out while it is moving from what ever charge left? it is really a scary feeling? and very emotionally stressful when i am to figure out what to do to start it. But i was lucky it happened in my home garage! please investigate and let the manufacture know they can notbe cheap on that part which control everything as i described above. May be as a solution to this complexes-functioned failure is to diversify the functions on many small and multiple modules so as to be easy to be fixed. Put more warning about what to do if it fails on the road, in their catalogue( i have no clue of what to do)please prevent this unsafe and dangerous failure to happen to another fellow citizen and on the road? please advise. Thank you.

We have had multiple thing go wrong with our 2001 aztek we purchased under 40,000 miles, now has about 60, 000- the front brake rotors were warped- mechanic said that they had to have been like that from manufacturer, as he has never seen anything that bad in a car of that age- air conditioner is not working- went on the web, and it looks like many owners are also experiencing this due to cracked/leaking compressors- also, fuel gauge stopped working shortly after we purchased- needle is very sporadic, and you never know how much gas you have- this also seems to be a common problem- had interior electrical problems as well- this was the only thing fixed by pontiac- i recently contacted pontiac, who was unwilling to address any of these issues.

After arriving home from work, i followed my normal routine: parking in my driveway, cutting off the engine and removing the key before exiting the vehicle; however, i could not remove the key from the ignition switch. No matter what i attempted it would not budge. My adult son also tried to remove the key from the ignition switch with no success. The key was stuck in the 2nd position-- meaning that the vehicle was still "on" just not running. I left it as it was with my key stuck in the ignition. The next morning, of course, my battery was dead because the ignition switch was still in the "on" position. The next day i found a temporary "workaround" on youtube. However, the ignition is still not fixed and i am still using the temporary workaround. I have contacted a local gm dealer and gm offices only to be told that the recall does not cover my vehicle. I knew that before i called them; which wasn't the reason i contacted them. I asked why this particular ignition problem was not issued a recall and i was told by a gm representative that it had to be issued from your organization. I think this should be added to the ignition switch recall that is currently being investigated. Gm did an overall poor job with the ignition switches on the vehicles that were sold to the public and they need to take accountability for it. Thank you.

After starting vehicle air bag light would remain on.electrical system would also fail. Vehicle would act erratically. Had vehicle test driven twice by mechanic before problem was noticed. Mechanic disabled air bag, but could not locate cause ofelectrical system failure.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztek. The vehicle failed to start without warning. The contact charged the battery and started the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that it was not a battery issue. The technician suspected an ignition failure and planned to run a diagnostic test the following day. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 132,000.

Had just started vehicle when abs light and chimes sounded. This was an indication abs was not working. Dealer informed vehicle was okay to drive. There were no problems with brakes.abs still do not work, dealer found defective bcm, also replaced blown right turn blinker bulb and replaced right rear stop lamp bulb.

The head lights and tail lights flashed intermittently.the horn was also inoperative.the dealer inspected the vehiclebut was unable to duplicate or correct the problem. *nlm

The front driver side window switch failed due to a bad connection at switch, traction control light illuminates.

Loss of lights, gauges, horn going on, during driving.

It all started with my lights not turning off at night.i would have to disconnect my battery to get the lights to go off.then the chimes would not go off.disconnect battery again.was told to replace key fob battery.a couple of weeks later, door locks, gauges, all dash lights, horn, headlights, went crazy driving down the highway with my 7 year old son with me.i have taken this vehicle to 7 or 8 places including the pontiac dealership and noone knows what to do.noone!!!my horn would blow intermittently sitting at a redlight one day, with two cars in front of me.the car immediately in front of me thought i was blowing at them because the light had changed and started to go, even though the car in front of them was still stopped.this is a seriously dangerous problem with the electrical system of this vehicle. The closest i got to a diagnosis of the problem was that it was a problem with the security system somehow.i just dont know what else to do.ad

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the ignition switch had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage and vin was not available.

The car was park! the keys in, i pulled keys out n the car rolled backwards i hop in the car n turn the wheel and i flew out and the car ran me over tire on my backthe car didn't stop i pushing the brakes nothing!

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztek.the contact stated that the air conditioner was not working.the vehicle also began emitting smoke, but the failure was repaired.the dealer diagnosed the cause of failure as electrical.the purchase date and failure mileage were unknown.the current mileage is 72,000.updated 08/14/07.

Have had on-going issues with electrical system and a/c evaporator drain.have had the drain cleaned twice and repaired once.still have water draining into passenger compartment.have replaced both front hubs, four wiring harnesses, the fuel pump, the battery, and the blower motor twice.most of these failures due to corrosion/melting.another harness now needs to be replaced due to corrosion.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec. The contact stated when he attempted to turn on the ignition, the vehicle would not start. He attempted several times but the vehicle did not respond. The vehicle was towed to his home. He researched online and discovered many other consumers having a similar failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 117,000.

My aztek which has 92,000 miles, suffers from what is sometimes called "the disco aztek" meaning my bcu went out. This has caused the pw, pl, gauge cluster back light, rear hatch, and radio to quit working. This is not only a safety hazard but is annoying. It is estimated to cost around $300 to fix. Good news is that there is a way to manually release the rear hatch, if you've got some tools.

Dt*: the contact stated the electrical system went defective and the contact was locked in the vehicle, and without any lights.the service dealer replaced the ignition switch to resolve the issue.the contact expressed concern of this possibly happening again.the lights, doors and windows failed on a regular basis. Driver and passenger side doorsopen and close intermittently, causing the battery to run down because a light was on, resulting in a short and no lights on at all.

Several trips to the shop, car wouldn't start. Battery light stays on.they couldn't fix it. It's stranded me several times.this time they replaced the battery and starter, this car only has 47,000 miles on it.

Electrical system has been replaced 3 times due to the battery light and engine check light coming on. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 20 times. Please provide additional information.

I was finding antifreeze in my oil. Took to the shop and had to have the intake gasket and the manifold gasket replaced. Also had to have a new thermostat and pvc valve. It cost almost $900.00.this is not the only problems have had to have the front wheel bearings replaced 2 times and brake shoes 2 times.also had to have the heater fixed. Now the ac does not work. Had to have the window control unit replaced on the driver side.had to have computer components replaced because the battery went bad with no notice. And now the windshield wipers do not work. To fix this problem is going to cost me $200 that is just for the whole motor and connecting rods. Because it is a factory only part.all together i have paid almost $2,000.00.the ac is the condenser which is another $300.00.i have had and loved gm vehicles for awhile.but this kind of thing has never been a problem.....something has got to be done.

Soon after purchase there was a clicking noise that began in the rear of the vehicle when applying brakes.the clicking noise then turned into a popping noise that could be felt when applying the brakes.there is wind noise on the left front door post, noise in the front end of vehicle, the right headlight is inoperable, the horn is inoperable, and the wipers do not turn off at times.*jg

Horn stopped working, dealer replacedairbag module 3 times in a 2 month period. Problem kept reoccurring.

Vehicle has lost all power 5 times since purchase.new battery installed by dealer after first incident where car died twice in one day--once upon backing up/once while parked in garage upon startup.problem intermittent -- will run okay for several days then shutdown upon startup.

Electrical and a/c problems:t 40,000 i had to replace the a/c compressor because it had a hole. I paid for the repair as it was out of warranty.t 83,000, the hatch ceased working, couldn't be opened manually or electronically. The driver's sid door lock ceased working ( ipaid to have that fixed, noone could diagnose the hatch) and the a/c ceased working. The battery light was on. Suddenly, the security light came on and the key could not be removed, the car would not turn over. I paid the dealer to replace the ignition switch ($350). Replaced the battery, but still had dead battery within a week. Replaced the alternator beacause it registered a bad diode (($500)battery dead the next day. My mechanic traced the problem to a short somewhere in the electrical system that caused a 12 volt drain on the battery. It would have been at least another $1000 to pinpoint and correct the problem. I have saved my receipts and purchased a new car, not a pontiac.

Car was being driven at highway speed, upon approaching stop sign the brakes failed resulting in near collision with semi tractor trailer.the brakes began to work but without power assist.dealer was contacted and instructed us to drive the vehicle to the dealership.brakes failed again on the way to the dealership.upon investigation compartment housing the wiring harness was found to be filled with water and the wiring harness controlling the abs, brake sensor, fuel gauge, and fuel sender was corroded.*la

After car was services, within one-half hour of driving vehicle the engine caught on fire. The fire could not be put out by 8 police vehicles responding and had to be extinguished by a volunteer fire company engine.

Vehicle has been intermittently losing power completely, and indicating loss of abs system. Replacing fuses returned the car to the road, but happened at least twice more within the subsequent week. Vehicle was brought to a repair shop who eventually found the problem after 3 days. Part of the wiring harness was routed improperly under the top driver's side flex motor mount. Each time the motor mount would flex under driving conditions, the metal would erode the protective shielding around the harness and the wires themselves. Wires and harness were repaired and re-routed over the mount and secured properly.

Consumer had to take vehicle to dealer ship for service onengine light that was illuminating ondashboard. Mechanic stated there was a short inwiring harness, resulting in avehiclefire.

Electrical system is continuously going out. Driver is not aware of the speed due to odometer not functioning, nor how much gas is in thegas tank due to fuel gauge failure.

Purchased my 2001 aztek in october 2000. Every year (winter) since 2001, i have had to take my vehicle into the dealership for repair because i lose my traction control which automatically takes out my abs brakes. The dealership doesn't have a clue as to why this is happening. This is a safety issue, considering where i live.there are 5 incident dates, thus far.

The consumer took the vehicle in to have it serviced for an oil change.the consumer was informed that the head had separated from the engine.

As of yet do not have a problem but i have a 2001 pontiac aztek made by gmi was informed of the leaky gasket when i went in for a oil change.they quoted me $755.00 to fix it.we don't have that kind of money and even though there are serveral other cases in the area gm refuses to do anything about it.after reading about the problem online i am afraid to drive my car because of the possiblity of it stalling out in some random place.i have a 7 month old baby that i want to try and protect.please make gm responsible for there mistake in installing bad parts not the consumers.

I purchased my 2001 pontiac aztek in november of 2003.since then it was diagnosed with a leaking gasket requiring a repair of $750, which i have since discovered is not an usual problem with this vehicle. I have also noticed some very odd things about this vehicle:1.when on an incline, once i remove my foot from the brake pedal the vehicle immediately starts to roll back, which risks me striking anything behind me.this requires me to put my left foot on the brake and my right foot on the gas and simultaneously lift off the brake as i begin to accelerate.i have never encountered this problem in an automatic transmission.2.when on a level surface as soon as the brake pedal is released vehicle will accelerate on its own prior to applying gas.3.steering is very difficult to control in even the slightest wind, and often feels like it will veer off the road.i have not experienced this to that extent in any other vehicle i have ever owned, including mini vans, full size vans, cars or trucks.4.vehicle has an intermittent burning smell as yet unable to be identified by a mechanic, although they have hypothesised that it might be the result of the underside of the car being lower to the ground in some areas and more prone to catch debris on the road, for example plastic bags, which then stick and melt to it.

I have a 2001 aztec pontiac. During a routine visit in a car shop, they told me my car has an intake gasket leak and they cannot repair it. They suggested me to see gm in direct and find a deal with them. How can it be possible since my car has only 60,000 miles ?

I took my vehicle to my dealership(buick, pontiac, gmc) in dublin after my engine started overheating.i was told by the mechanic that the intake valve seal is leaking coolant.my query is this a defect by the manufactuer?

I lost heat in my 2001 pontiac aztek, brought to repair shop, leaking intake manifold gasket was the cause. They said this is a known problem, gm has new service bulletin on it and new design. Cost to repair 794.00 car has 43203 miles. Called gm and they will not help, even though they know its a bad gasket design on and affecting about every gm vehicle with the 3.4l v^ engine. I purchased new and expect gm to cover these costs. And am curious why a recall has not been issued?

Bought aztek used on 6/2/04 46,000 miles. On 11/12/04 when i got home from work, got out of vehicle and smelled antifreeze. Checked under hood and saw anti- freeze leaking from engine. It was coming from head gasket.

2001 pontiac aztek truck. Consumer sent documents regarding work done to vehicle *tgwthe consumer stated the transmission had to be replaced, the window would not go down and the check engine light illuminated

While applying the brake pedal the consumer heard a loud noise and the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably.the consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic determined that the brakes needed to be replaced and replaced them.however, the problem recurred.the transmission felt as if it was falling out, the tire exploded while driving, the power lost, and hatch (rear) would not open. *sc

- the contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec. The contact stated took the vehicle to the repair shop to be serviced and was informed that the head gasket needed to be replaced.the dex coolant used in her vehicle caused the head gasket to deteriorate.the contact then called the manufacturer and was told to take the vehicle to one of their mechanics.updated 03/19/07.

Last fall , 2006,heater wasn't working.taking the radiator cap off, found heavy accumulation of gunk inside radiator.mechanic advised that i have the radiator and cooling system flushed.had that done;. Was not told at that time what caused this to happen.all seemed okay until about march of 2007, heater stopped working again and check engine light came on.took it to dealership this time, for oil change and check up.they changed the oil, did some adjustments to computers ,which cost me over $200 , and said the lower intake manifold was leaking and wanted $913.00 to fix that.after feeling very ill from this news i told them, i did not have that kind of money at this time. It took everything i had to get the computers adjusted.took it to another mechanic to get an estimate on getting the lower manifold repaired, and they told me that they had never seen a vehicle with only 79,000 miles on it with as much gunk"inside the radiator and in as bad a shape as this one was in.they were not equipped to make the repair, so i am now in the process of saving my money and trying to find someone that can fix it for less than the dealership, or get the money to take it back to them.am borrowing vehicles from my children till then.after reading complaints on this website, i find that this is not an uncommon complaint or problem.i had purchased the extended warranty, 5 years or 75000 miles), for my vehicle shortly after i purchased it new, and that was good until june of 2006, before it reached the 75000 mile mark.probably, last fall, it still had not reached the 75000 mile mark, but now i am told there is no recourse from manufacturer to get help in fixing this problem.told this by thedealer.

After starting the vehicle consumer heard a shattering noise, then the motor blew. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Purchased the pontiac 2001 aztek from a dealer used.the first week the check engine light came on. Second week the service vehicle light came on and the thermometer gauge was stuck in cold, took the car to checkers autoparts to diagnose. Was a bad thermostat.another week later the engine started overheating. Stopped checked coolant. Was gone out of the reservoir, which i just had filled at jiffy lube that morning.stopped by them again, they checked the liquids, found coolant mixed in with the oil. Advised not to continue driving the vehicle since it can mess up the engine. Called dealer and had them tow it. They have been working on it for the past 4 days. Stated that it was the intake manifold gasket.wondering if this vehicle is safe after reading several complaints regarding it.and also if pontiac would fix it.

Bought 2001 aztec because i had always liked the design. Had car for four months and brakes were squealing. Took back to dealership and was told they needed cleaning. Didn't help. Took back and then they wanted to replace the pads, which they said weren't original gm pads(even though they were inspected before i bought it) and i would have to pay because that wasn't covered by warranty. Took it 2 service center outside of dealership and brake pads were fine just emitted a lot of brake dust they both said. Head lights somewhat flicker when driving. Dual climate control passenger side light on temp went out. On taillights the finish is coming off(a common problem for these vehicles being cheap grade plastic). The driver side window button sometimes doesn't work and the entire unit fell through and had to get inside of door to push it back through to get window up because it was raining(another problem a lot of people have).it seems these vehicles have defective gas gauges. Mine went out after marathon gas had bad gas and the company had to replace everyone's sensors. I don't think it was the gas. The gas gauge always moves up and down still and when idling goes down. The ses light comes on and the car temp goes out. Had it diagnosed and the comp said temp control modulator plug was dirty. Had plug cleaned and remedied problem. 2 weeks later the same happened again and 5 min after the ses light came on the check engine soon light came on. Now both lights are on and this vehicle never has nothing going right.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec.she stated that the condenser would not blow cold air when engaged.the dealer stated that there was a hole in the condenser.the condenser has been replaced on four occasions.the manufacturer offered her a voucher for a new vehicle.as of august 7, 2007, the failure has not been rectified.the failure mileage was 13,745 and the current mileage was 92,000. The consumer was told that brackets were punching holes in the condenser. After the last condenser replacement, the consumer smelled something burning and noticed anti-freeze leaking only when the air conditioner was on. The consumer returned to the dealership and was informed that a new radiator was needed and there was a problem with the intake. The consumer was then told the intake was ok, but a radiator was still needed. Updated 09/11/07. The blower motor was also replaced. Updated 09/11/07.

The consumer stated she saw fluid leaking from under her vehicle in her driveway.she says she took her vehicle to themechanic, who said it was her radiator.she then took the vehicle to somewhere else to get a second opinion, that mechanic told herthat the problem was the radiator, air conditioning, and the engine intake manifold. The vehicle was leaking coolant into the intake manifold. She says her vehicle is not old enough to have this kind of problem.front brake rotors are rusting and must be replaced.*sc

Sudden acceleration occurred several times in the same day.the problem was noticed on my way to work.after putting my vehicle in park, the vehicle was still revving at 2500 rpms.again, on my way home, i again noticed sudden acceleration.my vehicle would increase in speed on its own after releasing my foot off of the break pedal.i did not need to push the gas pedal at all.i travel an hour to work, and had to ride my brake most of the way home.after reaching my driveway, before turning the ignition off, i had my husband come and witness the issue.the vehicle again in park, was revving at 3000 rpm's.the vehicle was driven to the dealership that evening.they looked at it the next day and told us there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.theystated they completed a diagnostic check on the vehicle and it was fine.i am very concerned that if it happens again, my brakes will not hold and therefore an accident will occur.

2001 pontiac aztek i have replaced the upper and lower intake gaskets as well as thermostat at quite and expense and now the head gaskets are blown. This seems to be a very common problem with the 3.4 l from gm and it still hasn't been recalled or fixed to the consumers behalf?i have read that it was blamed on the dex-cool coolant that gm used from mid 90'5- present if that's the case why isn't gm held responsible if they know their coolant is the cause of gasket breakdown?

Upon starting when engine was cold, vehicle made loud clunking from engine compartment.engine was shut off, dealership called.we were told to drive car to dealer.vehicle was towed to the dealership.upon investigation engine was found to have been manufactured with the incorrect piston rod pins causing them to not be lubricated.engine was replaced.*la

Engine began to leak antifreeze. I was told it was a leaking head gasket. The gasket was cracked and defective. This happened at 80,000 mi. I have the parts.

Dt: the contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec. Five months ago the exterior and interior lightsmalfunctionedwhile driving. The contact replaced two oxygen sensors; one in may 2005,and one in august 2005.the contact was still experiencing the same problem.the contact went back to auto zone today and their computershowed herthat she needed another oxygen sensor. The car was no longer under warranty. The contact has not spoken to the manufacturer. The contact statedshe had gone to several mechanics, and they did not knowwhat the problem was. The only thing showing up was a bad oxygen sensor.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztek.while the vehicle was receiving a free oil change, the contact was informed that the intake manifold was leaking antifreeze into the engine.general motors advised him to take his vehicle to a pontiac dealer.the dealer stated that they could not work on the vehicle through the warranty and advised the contact to take his vehicle to another dealer.general motors stated that they would repair the vehicle under warranty, but later changed there mind.the reference number from general motors was 71-616597877.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 89,595 and failure mileage was 89,575.

Failure of upper and lower intake manifold gaskets on gm manufactured 3.4l v6 engine.gaskets replaced at expense of owner.

Transmission failed at 56000 miles no indication of any problems , just started making noise all of a sdden. Took it to dealer got $3900.00 estimate for transmission intake manifold & driveshaft.

Coolant leak on pontiac 2001 aztek.the lower intake manifold gasket failed.i did not have an accident, but it could have seized the engine with out warning.the low coolant warning never came on even after i was one gallon low.dealer replaced gasket for cost of $730.pontiac would not help with pricing.i did a web search and found a tsb on the gasket where gm/pontiac aknowledges the problem.i am also a member of aztekfanclub.com and other memebers have had the same problem and have had pontiac help cover the cost of the repair.

A/c quit working in my 2001 pontiac aztec. Gm dealership replaced a line saying there was a hole. After the line replacement, i'm told that there is a leak in the condenser due to a bracket failure. I am looking at about $900 to $1,000 in repairs. I am not the only one to report this issue for this vehicle.

Fuel gauge stopped working, could not tell how much fuel there was.dealer said fuel sensor went out. Notice other complaints of this type at 50,000 miles. Also ac also went out at 50,000 defected bracket gm will not back up.

Twice within 52000 the a/c condenser had to be replaced due to a hole in the condenser letting out the freon.i believe this is a defective part by the manufacturer. July 1 2001 and then may 15, 2003.*nlm

Our air conditioner stopped blowing cold air.compressor or condenser went out.we had it checked for leaks.no leaks just bad parts.

I took my 2001 pontiac aztek in for a/c service on 5/11/04 because the air emitted was not cool.they recharged the a/c.less than 24 hours later, the air was warm again.i took it back to the garage where they ran dye through the a/c and found the compressor needs replaced at an estimate of $1000.00.they said this should not happen at 43,000 miles and could be a manufacturer problem.i checked several vehicle information sites on the internet and found this to be a common problem at the same mileage, but gm will not issue a recall.this is a very expensive repair and is obviously the fault of the manufacturer.it's a shame that gm will lose valuable customers over something like this.

Air conditioner stopped functioning at around 60,000 miles. Ac condenser was replaced. Repair tech said that there was a bracket that was poorly made, and that bracket would punch holes in the condenser. Tech said the parts supplier had sold over 200 condensers in the past 2 weeks. Repair tech had fixed 3 exactly like this one over the past several months.

Air conditioner condenser was replaced in summer of 2003 and again in 2005.mechanic said that both incidents were due to faulty engineering (bracket).the bracket somehow causes a hole in the condenser in the same place.i have saved the old condensers for proof.there is nothing the mechanic can do to prevent it from happening again.

A/c condenser has a leak on the right hand side, bottom corner. Vehicle had just 47,200 miles.it appears this is a frequent failure(6 replacements listed nhtsa complaints and 3 web sites with over 18 identical complaints).one source stated that it appeared to be caused by manufacture process in which insuficent weld process was used causing failure due to normal vibration between 42,000 and 60,000 miles.this is listed as an alert for canadian comsumers as well so i am sure it is a frequent problem.

Condenser broke for air conditioner. I have seen this problem on just about every aztek!

Air conditioning replaced 4 times at my own expense once when it was under warranty.shortly after it broke again due to defect in manufacturing as stated by the dealership.hole is created due to bracket and coolant leaks out.the purchase and install of a new one has cost me $1200 each time it happens and for the past 4 years i've just driven without air conditioning due to the cost factor and knowing it's going to happen again in the next 2 months.everytime it was replaced it was for the same problem a hole in the condenser.i've hear complaints from every atzek owner i've met about the air conditioning and still pontiac refuses to fess us to the manufacturing defect.for the past 4 years i've had to drive around in 90+ degree heat without air because of this.i'm a field technician and i'm traveling year round.i had an 88 grand prix previously and that had issues with the brakes and i spent thousands of dollars on brakes only to receive a letter 2 years after i got rid of the car claiming i can get money back due to a defect in the brakes.i shouldn't have to suffer from heat exhaustion due to a defect in the way pontiac designed the ac.they should atleast be able to design something that won't core a hole in the condenser.they also have issues with the tailgate and rear lights peeling.i have to open my tailgate 2 times and use the key while pulling the tailgate up.i've gotten the parts replaced 2 times and it hasn't solved the problem they tell me everytime i open the tailgate i have to manually adjust the stops so that the tailgate will open again.i shouldn't have to do this.i'm not the only one with these issues everyone is.

Air conditioner condenser developed a hole resulting in need for new installation.

Took my 2001 pontiac aztek in last week 10 mar 04 with a a/c problem.they told me it was low on freon and serviced it back up and sent me on my way.5 days later turned on the a/c and again no cold air.took my aztek back in today and they calledand told me that i have a crack in my condenser on the right side on the bottom.look up on nhtsa web site and find a technical service bulletin and call pontiac but they don't have it on their system so they will not offer any assistance for me.the technical service bulletin on this website says exactly the problem i have and even gives new installation instructions for the new condenser.why have new installation procedures?obviously there is a problem if you have to install it a new way but pontiac won't offer any help.it's obviously a manufacturer deficiency and they are not willing to correct it without wanting to charge me $1000.the way i'm being treated i don't think i will ever own another gm product.

Air conditioner condenser cracked just after the 50,000 mile mark. This car has been driven conservatively in non-extreme conditions with regular checkups.it cracked completely on its own without any help from myself. It was only a matter of a few days before the cold level inside went from cold to hot.the repair required the replacement of the condenser which proved to be very costly for me; $850.00.neither the dealer or pontiac customer service offered any help for my situation even though i was informed by the dealer that this problem is very common with azteks.

When i bought my 2001 aztek in september 2001, i was told by the salesperson that it would be a dependable durable car.it has been anything but.will not keep alignment so the tires have worn prematurely.the seal around the passenger door leaked causing carpet damage which was not replaced by the dealership.air conditioner condenser had a crack and one week after replacement, the car ran hot.luckily, all of this happened under warranty.one week after the condenser was replaced, the car ran hot.one week after the intake was fixed, it ran hot again.the dealership service department added coolant and sent me on my way.the same day it ran hot again (saturday).i took the car back in on monday morning at 35,946 miles.they drove the car 33 miles to see if the car would get hot.it was returned to me with 35,979 miles and they could not duplicate the problem.i have also had brake failure, the transmission is slipping, there is a ticking noise underneath in front and back, and the car feels unstable on the road.overall i feel very unsafe in the car and would like for the dealer to buy the car back at full purchase price.

While driving with the air conditioner on in my 2001 pontiac aztek, there was a strong odor of gasoline (3 days in a row).car was brought in for servicing on monday aug 11, they were having problems duplicating problem.still working on it.

Air conditioner stopped working. I was told that the compressor case cracked and leaked all the coolant.

Air conditioning failure.had to replace condenser because of faulty bracket.

2001 pontiac aztec,you don't have listing for the vehicle...body control module went bad... $ 233.00 part, rest o $ 650.00 labor...

Chunks of rubber are falling out from the center of the tire.door locks and radio don't always work properly. Windshield wipers stopped working. I stopped and shut the car off. The wipers started working again.

Bought the car new, since then: had to replace electrical "memory" twice because the change oil light wouldn't reset and then the service engine light came on; the condenser leaked and the air conditioner wouldn't work; now, my gas gage goes up to full, then the low fuel light comes on, then it returns to full and vice versa.i have no idea how much gas is in the car!taking it in for repair on that issue tomorrow.the whole braking system is shaky - whenever i try to brake, if there is any kind of a bump in the road, the brakes don't grab properly and it takes way too long to stop.they checked my brakes and they are fine.also having the dealer look at my tail light covers and roof brake light cover tomorrow, they are discolored as if acid is eating away the top part of the cover.lastly, the "k" part of the "aztec" on the back window broke off while washing the car!and i only use a sponge!

Both rear tail light lens covers are discolored and are cracking on the top portion of the lens (egg shell type) it looks like spider web type. The cracking is spreading from top to bottom. *nlm

Smelled gas fuel leaking underneath the vehicle. Mechanic determined fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a crack weld...gas gauge malfunction..says tank is empty when full and vise versa..

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed. After refueling the vehicle to full capacity, the fuel gauge would show an empty reading abnormally. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who stated that the sensor in the fuel tank had failed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 89,000.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztek.the contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to indicate the amount of fuel that was stored in the fuel tank after it was refueled.no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel.the manufacturer was not contacted.the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnose that the fuel gauge floater needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was unknown.

In early july, 2008, service engine light came on.dealership replaced gas cap because diagnostic code indicated fuel vapors escaping.service engine light came on next day.returned to dealership, explanation was that the codes must have not been reset.service engine light came on next day.diagnostic codes indicated that fuel vapors are escaping.crack @ fuel fill tube is diagnosed.i had received a letter from the manufacturer (gm) about this in january 2008.the letter indicated that repairs would be made if this problem made it necessary, but not to repair unless indicated (there was no recall).the part was ordered mid-august of 2008.i was told there were no parts in inventory, nationwide.after complaining to gm customer service, i was told that the part would ship on september 19th, 2008.as of october 9th, there is still no part, still no repair.the service engine light is still on, fuel vapors are still escaping from the vehicle.is this safe???

At about 80,000 miles my fuel gauge became unreliable.once the fuel level would get below half a tank, the gauge needle would start bouncing around.it would go from half a tank to a full tank to an empty tank even setting off the fuel light.i dealt with this for about 3 months and then it quit working altogether.now the needle never drops below 3/4 of a tank.

I bought a 2001 pontiac aztek in november of 2001.a few months ago the gas gauge started malfunctioning.the gauge says the tank is full when it's empty and vise versa.it goes up and down continually.my dad has a 2001 gm vehicle also and has the same problem.

I noticed fuel leaking from underneath the car onto the pavement.upon closer observation i determined that the source of the leak was the joint were the fuel filler neck enters the fuel tank.this joint appears to be leaking through the plastic weld.my vehicle was not covered under the recall.but it is my intention to try and get gm to cover the cost of replacement.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztek.the contact smelled gas, inspected the vehicle, and noticed fuel leaking from the tank neck.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 115,000.

Fuel gauge stopped working, could not tell how much fuel there was.dealer said fuel sensor went out. Notice other complaints of this type at 50,000 miles. Also ac also went out at 50,000 defected bracket gm will not back up.

Fuel leak over left rear tire.fill tank filltube pulled loose and had to be replaced at owner's expense.car still under warranty, mileage 20,373.required brand new fill tube assembly and wiring.could have posed a fire hazard.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztek.the contact stated that fuel was leaking from the storage tank in the vehicle.she arrived at the dealer and they advised her to get rid of the vehicle.gm stated that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v349000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage), even though the vehicle is experiencing the same failure.the vehicle has not been repaired and is parked at the contact's residence.the failure and current mileages were 120,000.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec.the contact was concerned that his vehicle may catch fire due to nhtsa campaign id number 07v349000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage).there had been no failure to date.the current mileage was 35,785.

Defective weld on the fill spout located on the fuel tank causes a strong gas smell and fuel dampening around the fill nozzle.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec.the contact noticed fuel leaking from the rear of the vehicle after she filled the fuel tank.the dealer found no visible hole in the tank, but they replaced the tank.approximately three weeks later, the failure recurred and the dealer replaced the fuel tank for the second time.one week later, the failure recurred for the third time.the dealer stated that her vin was included in recall # 07e021000 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly:pressure relief devices), however, the manufacturer of the part stated that her vehicle was excluded.the engine size and number of cylinders were unknown.the current mileage is 69,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.

As i have seen other owners of this specific car state on your site, my fuel tank has developed a crack, and i was told by gm that i am out of luck because it is "out of recall since 2011," even though i was never notified about a possible problem with my fuel tank!so now i am driving around in, essentially, a molotov cocktail, having to spend $800 to replace a gas tank that was supposed to be replaced by gm in 2007, at no cost, because gm failed to notify me.this is vile.to think that gm doesn't care if owners of their cars are driving around in potential firebombs, that they knew about, is sickening.i purchased this car new, and certainly deserved to be notified about problems that are potentially life-threatening, and offers to replace defective parts, that were supposed to be sent to me, as per the nhtsa campaign id #07v349000.

Returned from 1 week vacation and found car was leaking fuel.weather had been unusually hot in our area.conditions sound identical to nhtsa recall 07v349000, however when i phoned the dealer they said that my vin was not covered and refused to take any responsibility. .updated 01/11/08.*ljupdated

2001 pontiac aztek fuel leak. Consumer states that his daughter in law will have to pay for the vehicle to be inspected for a fuel leak problem. He states that this should be a recall or at least be covered by the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec.while fueling the vehicle, the contact noticed gas leaking where the fuel take inlet valve attaches to the gas tank.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.there was recall # 03v454000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage) for the 2004 model.the contact believes that his vehicle should be included in the recall.the current and failure mileages were 90,000.

2001 pontiac aztec, check engine light came on in early april 2007.i took car to american chevrolet in danville, il for service.service department informed me that the code indicated a problem with the fuel system, and a pressure check of the system revealed a defective gas cap.i believe the cost to read the check engine light code was $79.i had them order the gas cap and was to return in 2 days to have it installed. The next time i filled the tank,( about 2 days later), there was a strong odor of gasoline and a puddle of gasoline under the car.i returned to the dealer and informed them of this development.they inspected the car and told me that the fuel tank was now leaking at the filler inlet pipe in the lower part of the fuel tank.i viewed the car and saw gasoline dripping from the filler inlet pipe.the service tech informed me that i would need a new fuel tank.i asked the service tech if this was a common problem for the aztek model.the tech stated that he had never seen this problem before with any fuel tank. Their repair estimate for new parts and labor was about $1000. I told the service tech that i could not afford the repair at this time.then they offered to install a used tank at a cost of about $400-$500 for parts and labor.i scheduled an appointment to install the used tank, but later cancelled it when i started investigating problems with aztek fuel tanks. The fuel tank is still leaking and eroding the asphalt on my driveway where i park my car. I need this car to get to work, but i feel nervous driving it with a fuel tank leak. I have not had the fuel tank replace because i cannot afford the repair bill ($1000), and i believe that since gm changed the design of this tank to correct this problem, that gm should pay the cost to correct the same design flaw on my vehicle. The fuel tank of my 2001 pontiac aztek began to leak at the neck(of the tank).at my dealership (marietta gmc, pontiac) i was told that there is a tsb on this problem and the mechanic stated that the procedure was to replace the tank at a cost of $ 950.00 to me.i feel that this is a safety concern and should be addressed via recall. If my home had gas fired water heaters or furnaces in the garage i most likely would not be writing this letter, because the first indication i had of this problem was with the leakage inside my garage, this could have caused a fire or explosion.clearly this is a failure of materials as there has not been any abuse to the tank in any manner.

Leaking fuel tank on 2001 aztek at check valve welded on plastic tank. Updated 01/07/08. *ljtraffic crash report. Updated 12/12/07

Defective weld on the fill spout located on the fuel tank causes a strong gas smell and fuel dampening around the fill nozzle.

Fuel tank dropped partially, causing sparks. Please provide any additional information. Ts.

While the vehicle was parked consumer noticed fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle. It was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a crackedweld.

The gas filler inlet pipe connects to the side of my pontiac aztek fuel tank. The tank is plastic and the flange on the side of the tank is molded to the tank. I have a crack on the underside area of the flange. All but about 3 gallons of gas leaked out in my driveway. I asked the service manager at the local pontiac dealer if there was a recall on this, he said no, but this was a common problem.i was quoted $1000.00 to replace the tank.

2001 pontiac aztec leaking fuel from seam of gas tank, first noticed on 9/7/03.brought to davis pontiac dealer in richboro pa (where i bought the auto on april 14, 2001)informed me that since i have 48,400 miles on the car it will cost me 675 for the tank replacement, 100 for overnight shipment.i feel that the tank should never leak during the life of the automobile, and that since shoddy construction was used in manufacturing of the car, i should not be liable for the repair.fuel leaking is a serious hazard, environmentally, socially, and concerning safety. *ph

2001 pontiac aztek leaked gas due to a faulty gas tank.while driving the consumer smelled gas fumes.the fumes were bad enough to burn the occupants eyes and throat.the consumer had to crack the windows to get relief.the vehicle was parked and the consumer still smelled gas.he looked under the vehicle and notice a puddle of gas.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the seam in the gas tank were faulty.

Fuel gauge stopped working/showed full all the time. I was told that the fuel level sensor had gone bad.

Electrical system is continuously going out. Driver is not aware of the speed due to odometer not functioning, nor how much gas is in thegas tank due to fuel gauge failure.

Fuel gauge malfunctioned while driving.fuel gaugeread empty, and the low fuel light came on. The fuel tank was full.

In june of this year this 2001 pontiac aztek failed an emission test. Noted a fuel smell on and around the vehicle prior to the test as well as what appeared to be fuel on my driveway and took it to a localgoodyear repair facility to investigate. They found no code in the system.took the vehicle to the emission test and failed. The code that came up at the ohio e-check facility was a "gas cap pressurization" failure. The service engine light came on june 12, and that first test date was thereabout. I went and purchased a new gas cap, the light went off and i passed the test second time around. A few weeks later the sevice engine light reappeared. Took it back to the goodyear on june 29th. The code they found was a p0440, stating a large evap leak. The mechanic found that the leak was at the tank filler neck connection and was split at the seam. It came apart by hand and it was starting to rot and had indication of stress. (it was a plastic connection piece) the entire assembly needed replacement including the tank, fuel sending unit and fuel filler neck costing us the total of$1, 927.17

Gm has issued a safety bulletin in regards to a broken fuel tank that could cause explosions, or fire. I have tried to get them to perform the repair but they are refusing. The problem is for all years of the pontiac aztek and buick rendezvous. I have a leak from this location, the fuel inlet, and am nearly afraid to drive the vehicle, but at a cost of over 2000 dollars, gm is also inflating the cost because they know the repair needs to be done.

I contacted pontiac regarding a recall on my aztec which includes the fuel tank, this is a safety issue since it can catch fire with just a spark from electrical on my car, well they said that i was out of the recall since 2011 i was not even aware there was a recall until i started investigating my problem online, i did not receive any notice regarding this safety issue i am not the original owner i bought it used but i registered it and never received any notice, my children and grandchildren ride in this car, and all they could tell me at pontiac was we are sorry but you are out of the recall time, and we can schedule you an appointment but we will not pay, so they do not care if someone could possibly die in a vehicle that was a factory default , which is their fault not mine. They are refusing to fix this problem.

Contacted pontiac customer service on monday morning and request they buy this vehile back under the lemon law.it has been 1 week since the last incident and have not heard from pontiac regarding a decision.this vehicle has been in the dealership repairshop for 35 day for this specific problem, as of 19 july 2002.

Chunks of rubber are falling out from the center of the tire.door locks and radio don't always work properly. Windshield wipers stopped working. I stopped and shut the car off. The wipers started working again.

Driver and passenger side doorsopen and close intermittently, causing the battery to run down because a light was on, resulting in a short and no lights on at all.

A prart is missing from rear door security lock.there is no lever to engage locks, only a hole in the steal.service department at the dealer said to use a key to manipulate the lock which would damage the key or internal parts.

Our air conditioner quit working, we thought it just needed to be re-charged, i had it re-charged two weeks in a roll, then it quit working again, i looked on the internet and saw many complains about the compressor leaking in the aztek 2001, i would think that a notification should be sent out to consumers. Of course this all happens after the warranty just ran out. You want to increase your sales and with problems like this many of us get rather weary of gm autos.

2001 pontiac aztek truck. Consumer sent documents regarding work done to vehicle *tgwthe consumer stated the transmission had to be replaced, the window would not go down and the check engine light illuminated

Transmission went out on my 2001 pontiac aztek. When my wife drove over railroad tracks a load sound came from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was driving erratically. She pushed the onstar button and they told her there was a problem with the transmission. We took it to a local repair shop and they had to rebuild the whole transmission and even service some parts for the all wheel drive transfer case. The vehicle only has 80,000 miles, this is not normal!

When i purchased my astek in july 2001, it was brand new since i have hadit i have had brake problems , a wheel bearing has went out, my alignmentwas set wrong, i needed to get brand new tires, and my transmission is now out and its not under warranty due to high mileage. I will be investigating. And now it is sitting until i can afford $2000.00 for a transmission or i can get this resolved.

Mu automatic transmission failed at 43,000 miles. Catastrophic failure- first shook, made grinding noises, then failed to engage and drive.

Transmission failed suddenly and without prior warning in traffic.

2001 aztek with 85,000 kms the transmission blew up.accelerated at highway on ramp, loud bang then no gears.no park, no reverse.transmission totally rebuilt by reputable mechanic, cost $3000 told by mechanic that gm using poor quality parts, not built to last and therefore transmission fails and not built to last.

My transmission gave in after three and a half years of owning this vehicle (purchased april 2001). I became stuck in traffic as a result. However, since the very beginning, the transmission has not been running smoothly at all. My car has been taken in for various types of repairs time and time again (our dealer, lasorsa in the bronx, has all the information on the repairs they've done). It was only a matter of time before the transmission gave in completely, and now that my warranty is up, i have to pay $2500 for a new transmission. I have noticed several other similar complaints for this make, model, and year, and something must be done. This car should be recalled. Our safety is at stake.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec.the vehicle was locked in the park position.the contact read the owner's manual and attempted to release the vehicle through the cupholder as instructed.she could not do so on the driver's side and went to the passenger side instead.she was able to release the lock and was on her way back to the driver's side when the vehicle knocked her down.according to witnesses, the vehicle made an l and struck another vehicle.the vehicle was towed and has not yet been diagnosed.updated 08/27/08.*ljupdated 08/27/08.

I purchased my vehicle on 7-23-04 and have only been able to drive it a total of approx 2 weeks now. The transmission started slipping while changing gears from 2nd to 3rd and after a couple days of this, it finally started slipping real bad taking off from a stop sign or red light. I have taken it to a transmission shop 5 times now and they are now going to just replace the unit.

I have a 2001 pontaic aztek with 39,978 miles on it.my transmission has gone bad already and is going to cost 2,000+ dollars for repair.i feel that this problem has happened far to soon for a newer vehicle.

The car rolls when in gear. Front or back, depending on the pitch of the road. At a stop light, if i took my foot off my brake, it roles back.when putting the car in the garage, i stopped half way in thecar roll out into the ally.the other 35 complaints didn't have this problem, so maybe its not a common problem.there is only 20,000 miles on it.

Also stated thatwhile driving the vehicle and she stops on a light or a stop sign she steps on the brake pedal and the vehicle still moves forward. On 9/4/01 with 3580 milesi went to my dealer of purchase (dallas automotive) to report loud clunking noises coming from the car during shifting and gas engagement.i was told this was normal operation.i was told this again on 12/17/01 by nourse automotive.then on 7/02/02 with 24,769miles the problem was a bad driveshaft.it was replaced, but i was told to drive on it while the parts were ordered.a few weeks later they were installed and the problem persisted, now with strong vibrations coming from the rear.i was told that the bad drive shaft had broken other parts.i am waiting for those to come in and they still have me driving it.yesterday the car suddenly lost power to the wheels.the engine was reving as i pushed the gas, but the car began to slow.at 55mph i suddenly dropped to 40 and could not maintain speed.it did this periodically on my trip making driving dangerous since i didn't know if i would go when i pressed the gas (merging).pontiac was notified and has told me to keep driving it.i feel it is not safe since during a merge or pass i may lose power.the original problem has been looked at 4 separate times by the dealer two of which i was told nothing was wrong.

Car was hit in the passenger side (about the middle)the car then rolled over--when everything stopped one of the seats was hanging by the seatbelt--the only air bag that went out was the passenger side one--i don't believe the car should have rolled over so easily

The car was park! the keys in, i pulled keys out n the car rolled backwards i hop in the car n turn the wheel and i flew out and the car ran me over tire on my backthe car didn't stop i pushing the brakes nothing!

Brake line that runs from the driver's side to the passenger side was rotted out, right in the middle, against the firewall.the other parts of the line are "ok". Seems to be a common thing in this chassis.

Abs and traction control features have never worked properly; abs comes on at slow speeds, and sometimes the system just shuts itself off.dealer and my regular mechanics have dealt with this from 2001 when i purchased the car (a demo) from the dealer (9,152 miles) up to now (2005, 56,925 miles).i have spent a small fortune having this diagnosed and repaired, and pontiac has told me it is no longer their problem.i have had all the front wheel bearings, hub assemblies, pigtales and harnesses replaced more than once; i have new brakes; i have new front struts (monroe); i have no patience.

After the 1st year routine nys inspection, i was required to replace the rear brakes. Dealer and subsequent call to pontiac both indicated that the material used on brake pads wear more quickly since they are no longer made of the asbestos material. Granted at 22000 miles it was sooner than expected. I was also told that due to failure to rotate my tires at the 6000 mile mark, i had to replace 2 tires due to wear. Dealership would not pass the nys inspection without completing the work... Am i to expect a brake replacement yearly?

The vehicle experienced extended stopping distance when the brake was applied.

Brakes failed - the pedal went all the way to the floor while entering us10 in bay county, mi. Why - because the brake line failed. To me, this is a vehicle safety issue and a design problem. The problem was fixed at graff chevrolet, 3636 e wilder rd, bay city, mi. The fix included replacing a section of brake line that was wrapped in heat reflecting tape. The way i see it, the tape trapped water between the tape and the steel tube causing the rusted tube to fail. Poor engineering design. How many more cars are there out there, on this car platform, that will experience this failure? i own a 1958 chevy conv, that has existed in michigan since 1958. It has not had this problem. I'm not looking for money. I want to protect all the people owning these vehicles from be killed or whatever other life altering things that could happen. I was very very lucky when my brakes failed.

Rear brakes faided at 13000 miles gm has had many complants on this could be a problem in the future.

Abs was not fixed properly, rear ended another vehicle at btwn 40-45 mph, none of the vehicles air bags deployed.pictures available upon request.

Consumer states the abs system failed three times. Also the abs light came on four times. The dealer replaced speed sensor assembly. Vehicle continues to have problems.consumer wants a total refund for the vehicle.

Abs light comes on intermittently, numerous brake failures at various speed, with the brake pedal going to the floor. Entire abs system was replaced. Dealer unable to remedy the problem. Please provide additional information.

*sc

The abs light came on while pulling out of the driveway.vehicle was taken to a repair shop, and mechanic determinedthat the problem was a wire on the electronic sensor attachment to the wheel hub wore out. Dealer and the manufacturer were not notified.

When applyingbrakes there is a squeaking noise. Took vehicle to dealer ,and they replaced brake rotors.please provide any further information.

When applying brakes, pedal vibrates.brakes and rotors keep permaturely wearing out.dealer contacted.. Consumer stated the rotors had to be turned on 4 occassions.

Consumer is concerned with the rear brakes and rotors.consumer states, that the rear brakes and rotors have been replaced on three separate occasions but the problem still occurs.

Rear brakes failedd and gmc wont warranty.

Consumer was traveling on highway and heard a ticking noise coming from underneath vehicle.took vehicle to dealership.dealership mechanic toldconsumer that brakes were warped. Consumer stated that the brake drum was warped and rust chips were falling off outside of the drums.consumer states that there was a recall regarding the airbag and she was never informed, consumer had been involved in an accident on 05-oct-2001 from the rear in which the air bags did not deploy.

Gradual loss of braking due to a leak in the brake line.brake fluid from the leaking brake line dripped on catalytic converter causing a fire.the brake line was reconstructed by a licensed mechanic.no damage to any other part of the car.

Lost brakes and engine fire ensued. Dealer said brake line broke ,unknown cause.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztek. The contact stated when his wife applied the brake, she experienced immediate and complete brake failure. A popping and whooshing sound was heard and the brake pedal went to the floor. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that one of the brake lines failed due to rusted through at the point of failure, as well as extremely rusted at every place it was clipped to the body of the vehicle to the back of the vehicle. The mechanic recommended the entire brake line be replaced. . the vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.the consumer stated it was the second time, the brake line failed, due to corrosion.the first time was in 2007, when the vehicle had 65,000 miles. Updated 03/11/15.

While driving at highway speeds, the steering had become inoperative, causing loss of vehicle control.(vehicle rolllover) driver sustained and injury.the driver/passenger seat belts were inoperative and the air bags did not deploy.*scc

The key can be pulled out or fall out of the ignition cylinder with almost no resistance in the run position, and door ajar, keys in ignition chimes no longer operate after first occurrence of key fallout. Key fallout occurs easier as time goes on, i am unsure of the exact date of first occurrence.

Consumer states while driving at highway speed the steering tie rod/drive bar have broken. Causing loss of vehicle control. Resulting in a rollover collision. The driver was injected fromthe vehicle through the sun roof.dealer and the manufacturer was not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.

Vehicle experiencing problems with the rear passenger door and rear hatch, consumer wants dealer to buy vehicle back.

Back door on passenger side is tied into back wheel weld. Consumer states that both back doors shut into back wheel wells, mud froze on the wheel wells and kept the back doors from opening, consumer had to chip off the mud in order to open the back doors.

For past year reported increasing wind noise coming from driver's door. Lead to uneven gaps between door and frame of vehicle and creasing of exterior metal on door. Been in for repair 5 times and each time the hinges have to be re-adjusted. Hinges to hold driver's door is literally coming off of frame of vehicle. Also have creaking in rear of vehicle that was looked at but never repaired properly 3 times. Transmission casing cracked and leaked causing vehicle to be out of service for over 3 weeks. Stereo does not hold preset stations and has been replaced once already, and rear hatch does not open and close properly.

*sc

Front hubs (bearings) wearing out. 2001 pontiac aztek. Currently installing the 4th and 5th new bearings on vehicle. Only 60,000 miles. Technician says that bearing failure could result in front tire & rim breaking away from vehicle.

2001 pontiac aztek has wheel bearing failure.gm says the part is not available and there are over 2000 of these parts on back order.can can't be driven, nor can it be repaired without the part.gm says there is nothing they can do.

I hit a pothole at 25 mph and within 1/2 mile the tire was completely flat. On inspection, the tire had what appeared to be a slash mark on the sidewall, proceeding into the tread. I took the tire to daniels pontiac in geneva ny and was told that this was a roadhazard problem, so there would be no coverage. In addition, there is a backorder on this tire so it may take up to a week to get a new tire. I am forced to ride on the donut spare tire in the meantime. I contacted a firestone rep. Doug hill who would only offer to have the tire picked up and after inspection will cover no more than 50% for the cost of the tire. At this point, the money is the least of my concern for one tire. After reading the numerous complaints on this tire, on both the nhtsa site and other websites, i fear for my safety driving with these tires. Mr. Hill stated that there is no recall on these tires, hence firestone will not cover anything beyone 50% for this one tire. I hope that the reliability and safety of this tire model will be looked at closely, as there is an obvious pattern of problems with it. Obviously firestone will not admit to any culpability, nor take responsibility for what appears to be a defective and unsafe tire, unless forced to do so. (tiresize: 215/70r/16)

Chunks of rubber are falling out from the center of the tire.door locks and radio don't always work properly. Windshield wipers stopped working. I stopped and shut the car off. The wipers started working again.

Air conditioner stopped functioning at around 60,000 miles. Ac condenser was replaced. Was told by repair tech that there was a bracket that was poorly made, and that bracket would punch holes in the condenser. Tech said he had seen 3 exactly like this one over the past several months.

Electrical system has been replaced 3 times due to the battery light and engine check light coming on. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 20 times. Please provide additional information.

I owned a pontiac aztek 2001. I use to notice this car / suv frequently swayed with breeze - more so than other cars i have driven. On a windy day around 10:30 pm night while driving with family on a freeway (us23 s) near fenton mi, we noticed excessive freezing winds causing the the car to sway abnormally. Finallyit swayed with the breeze pushing the car to the next lane ( i was on the fast lane on the two lane freway) but instead of returning back.. It continued the slide.it appears we hit a patch of black ice and with the force of the wind we started slide. The car was sliding nearly at a 45 degree angle diagonally cross both the lanes and continued in this manner for at least 50 - 100 ft. Finally wihtout using the brakes i manaveured it to the median. Moment it hit the median the front tire under me (driver) hit a soft patch and the ar role over twice and fell on the driver side close to the oncoming traffic lanes.luckily all of us i was belted so was my wife, escaped un hurt. My child 3 yrs old was belted on the car seat. None of the air bags deployed. A major dent just over my head where the car rolled over.for all practical purpuses the car was trashed with hardly 7000 miles on it.

Ac stopped working and had to have the condenser replaced for $885.00 with just over 40,000 miles. Was told by personal mechanic that mine was the 4th aztek he had seen in the past few months with the same problem.he said all that he had seen had holes in the same place on lower right where it is connected and suggested i call the dealerto find out if gm was going to take care of thier customers - they won't.

2001 pontiac air conditor stop working at 41,000 took car to dealer there was nothing they could do, warranty was up.i called pontiac and was told that they have not had any other complaints with the air in these vehicles.i talk with someone at the repair shop at dobbs pontiac about the a\c he said they have had several people come in having problems with the a\c unit but there was nothing they could do unless the manufacture had done something wrong when making the unit.i have researched the a\c unit and found out there are a lot of people having problems with the 2001 aztex a\c. Pontiac will not help.they make these vehicles and refuse to take responsibility when something is wrong.if there are a lot of people having the same problem with the same kind of vehicle it must be the manufacture doing something wrong.why should the people who already paid too much for vehicle have to again pay for pontiac mistakes? please let me know what i can do. It just is not right.

39,000 miles air conditioner quit working.called dealer to see if there was any common problems and if repair would be covered.was told no. Took car in to dealer at 59,000 mile to see what was wrong with ac.was told condensor and compressor are both bad.$1800 to repair!!! still broken.

Consumer is inquiring about any recalls listed for the 2001 pontiac aztek and the 2000 ford focus.*mr

I have replace 2 ignition switches, and still having problems..the key will not come out/unlock when switching car off..which kills the battery because i can'tturn off thecar this is terrible ..it's the ignition switch or the steering column, this happens when putting the car in park!!!!key will not turn car off/can't get key out too

Problems removing the spare tire off of the vehicle.*mrthe consumer indicated that it was impossible to remove the spare tire although she followed the directions perfectly.the consumer believes there is a step missing in the process.a tow truck driver was also unable to remove the spare tire.

Consumer had to take vehicle to dealer ship for service onengine light that was illuminating ondashboard. Mechanic stated there was a short inwiring harness, resulting in avehiclefire.

The contact owns a 2001 pontiac aztec.while driving 25 mph or greater, the vehicle would accelerate approximately 10-15 mph.the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated before acceleration.the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a map sensor.the map sensor was replaced and the air vents were disconnected, however, the failure continued to occur.the current and failure mileages were 84,000.

Electrical system is continuously going out. Driver is not aware of the speed due to odometer not functioning, nor how much gas is in thegas tank due to fuel gauge failure.

While driving the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The driver applied the brakes but the vehicle continued to accelerate. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it home.the consumer stated that this vehicle has multipleproblems.the dealer's mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

The odometer light did not illuminate. Contacted the dealer, and was told there was nothing they could do. Also, consumercontacted the manufacturer, and was told the same thing. Problem recurred....consumer maintained that not having odometer visible is a safety violation, an dpontiac should pay for the repairs, which they refused.

While pulling into drivewayaccelerater pedal became stuck in full throttle, causingdriver to hit a wall. Upon impact, air bags didn't deploy.

While slowing down with feet on brake pad , vehiclesuddenly accelerated at a high speed before stopping. *ph

2001 pontiac aztek. During hot days (>85 degrees) truck will continue to accelerate slowly when foot is removed from accelerator at speeds under 42-46 mph. If at speeds above 50 mph, truck will decelerate until it reaches about 42-46mph. Rpm is between 1500 rpm and 2100 rpm when this occurs. Braking is long and difficult when this occurs. Vehicle 'groans' when at complete stop. Putting the truck into park has an rpm of 2000-2300 rpm and a very high idle. No mil or non- mill illuminates when this occurs. Turning the key off will return the car to a normal (500-800 rpm) idle, and each successive key off will lower the idle a bit more if the idle was still a bit high. Has happened at least ten times. Iac was cleaned and did not solve the problem. Iac was replaced and that did not solve the problem.

Five years after owning our 2001, pontiac aztec our inside fan control burnt up and needed replacement. 07/07/2009 i purchased another 2001, aztec at an auction and to find out the fan wasn't working. I brought my vehicle intothe garage for repairs and maintanence and the mechanic said the wires were melted and it will cost close to $200.00 for just replacement parts. The first pontiac had extended warranty which was a good thing. In closing i am curious to know if other complaints have been filed? thank you

I am very disturbed by this vehicle.this is the 2nd "new" car i have bought from tom pedens and it is also the 2nd "lemon"i traded in a 2000 grand prix because of all of the trouble i was having plus i lost $2,000 on the trade-in, but i needed a dependable car, and i chose the "aztec" and received another lemon.now what do i do?the mechanics say that they can't do anything for the rattles, remote, or the latch, so did i spend $22,000 for another car?i work hard for my money and look out for the safety of my children.really how safe are they, when they get in a brand new car that is falling apart?please help me!!!!

Whie driving in a rain storm windshield wiper worked intermittently. They got stuck half way in the middle of the windshield.

The windshield wiper and blades failed.

May 2001 after a days of purchacing vehicle windshield wipers quit had to replace motor on the unit, again same problem happened may 2002.may 2002 horn quit and had to have replacement part.

Chunks of rubber are falling out from the center of the tire.door locks and radio don't always work properly. Windshield wipers stopped working. I stopped and shut the car off. The wipers started working again.

The vehicle has 100,000 miles on it and on top of replacing many "minor" parts as well as the air conditioner condenser, the transmission and computer board, we have now replaced the wheel bearings 3 times. And, while replacing the bearings we found that the half-shaft is bad and has to be replaced. The bearings were on indefinite backorder, with no dealer in the state having any. This once again cost us the use of the vehicle for a couple of weeks. This car is awesome except for it's complete lack of reliability. I hope they've fixed these problems on later models. Gm has taken no blame for any part even the ones that should have been under warranty. The dealer won't replace the rear latch problem without charging for it. How long will it take before gm figures out that saving money at the cost of customer satisfaction does not pay in the long run?
