The vehicle was taken to the dealer because the air bag light illuminated and the horn would not function.the dealer's mechanic determined that the clockspring assembly was the cause of the problem and must be replaced.

I own a 1999 chrysler plymouth voyager minivan that appears to suffer from a defective clockspring. The horn and cruise control do not work. The airbag warning light stays lit as well. The vin is [xxx]. The appropriate nhtsa odi# is ea 04-013.updated 07/25/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The airbag illuminated, which caused the horn and crusie control to not to work, also the fuel sensor was defective which caused the vehicle to run out of gas.ts

The air bag light illuminated on the dash board.

The contact owns a 1999 plymouth voyager.he contacted the dealer in reference to recall campaign id number: 04v480000 (air bags). He was advised that the parts were on backorder. No repairs have been made. The failure mileage was 96000. The current mileage was 97000. The vehicle identification number was unavailable.

Consumer was driving on a winding road doing the speed limit whenanother vehicle pulled out in front and caused a collision. Consumer'svehicle t-boned the other vehicle. In a delayed reaction, the air bags deployed. This causeddriver to sustain major chest injuries. Also, two other passenger's sustained injuries.

Air bag indicator light illuminated.dealer indicated there was aclockspring problem.the consumer received a recall letter for a 1997 caravan caravan he owned prior to this vehicle.the consumer contacted the manufacturer to let them know that the 1999 voyager is also having clockspring problems.

Clockspring has failed, causingairbag and horn to be inoperative. Dealer notified.

Defective clockspring that would light up "airbag" light on dash but, only when turning to the left. This condition, i was told by the dealer, disabled my airbag. The dealer left it up to me to decide if i want to replace this defective part or, drive the vehicle without the protection of the airbag. Chrysler customer assistance only recommended i have vehicle serviced. Writesstacie perry, senior staff representative daimler chrysler customer assistance center;" additionally, daimler chrysler recommends that you have the repair performed at your local daimler chrysler dealership." when i responded to the daimler chrysler customer assistance center with the question; "...it is safe to drive with the potential of not having my airbag deploy in the event of an accident. Is that correct?" their response was, "again, if something is malfunctioning on your vehicle, daimler chrysler strongly recommends that you have it repaired." this language, in my opinion, is not strong enough for me to fork over 231.00 dollars for a repair that should not be necessary. The owners manual states that the airbag is designed to be maintenance free. Considering the fact that previous model year vehicles exhibited the same problem, i would suggest that chrysler has a known problem.*nlm

Consumer stated that air bag light came on and stayed on all the time. This affected horn and cruise control, both did not work.

Air bag indicator light was flashing on and off followed by the horn malfunctioning. The problem was due toclock spring failure.

I heard on the news that failure of the airbag/horn/cruise control mechanism has been reported on this vehicle and that no recall had yet been determined.i experienced the same failure.to date, only the horn has been repaired but the dealership inform

I purchased a used 1999 plymouth voyager.when i took it to a dealer in carlsbad, ca.bob baker, i asked about two problems i have with it.the horn doesn't honk, and the air bay light stays on all the time.i was told they'd be fixed free.when they called regarding other repairs, they said the items wouldn't be fixed free, that my particular 1999 plymouth voyager wasn't included in a recall.i objected and also found the repair costs expensive for me, and i was told to go ahead and pay to have it fixed, that "there will be a recall coming up and when it does i can show the receipts and get a refund."why are some 1999 included and others not, when they have the same problems others are fixed for under recall?also the low fuel bell rings after you fill the tank until the tank level gets down to about 3/4 tank. ( it does ring when the fuel is low, too).i want my horn fixed, it's an important safety feature.also the light "service engine soon" came on, and i just had a tune up, etc.i took the vehicle in to a repair shop because the dealership costs so much and it cost me $58.00 to find out that the gas cap wasn't sealing properly.the new cap i bought is imprinted with information about it having to be placed on properly.this new cap i believe is imprinted this way because of a problem that came up.i am disgusted and "broke" after having to pay for such a diagnosis and then 15.65 for the new cap.

Clockspring failure. Air bag light is on all the timecruise control and horn do not work, it started in jan 2004.

I own a 1999 plymouth voyager.recently, our airbag light would come on intermittently while driving.also, the horn would work intermittently as well.we have a friend that owns a 1998 voyager and she told us that she had the same problem, and it was caused by a defective clock spring.she had her van repaired at no charge by the chrysler dealership, as they had had so many complaints and incidents of this part failing that they actually extended the warranty of the clock spring on the 1998 model to a lifetime warranty.when we took our 1999 voyager in for repair, we were also told that our clock spring was not working.however, the warranty was not being extended for the 1999 models, so the repair cost us $198.00.we were told to keep our reciept "in case" chrysler ever issued a recall or changed the status of the parts warranty in the future, so we could get a refund.of course, i feel there is very little chance of that ever happening. My main complaint is that if chrysler know that this part is defective, why they are not recalling the parts instead of waiting until there are so many complaints that they secretly extend the warranty, which gets them out of the normal notification procedures they have to do during recalls.this is a clear case of knowing a problem exists but doing nothing about it.

The vehicle experienced the same defect as mentioned in nhtsa recall 02v293000; clockspring failure; the dealership indicated that this is the same problembut this vehicle is not included due to the vin. There are instances where i am out and about and after returning the my vehicle i go in and when i start the vehicle it will start and shut itself off. Seems to happens when i use it frequently or on hotter days. Also the panel inside the car that tells you your speed the gas you have the gears all that stuff will stop functioning but the car will still be drivable. That will have i's own time when it too decides when it wants to work and when it will work. These do not happen at the same time. They happen separately. At first i thought it was an alarm issues locking the vehicle but it happens even when the alarm is used properly. Then at a later time the vehicle will start and work as it had once before. Vehicle runs great it just occasionally will not turn on. I took it to the mechanic and they say it is an electrical issue. I got a second opinion and that mechanic also told me it was a electrical issue. Neither mechanic does electrical work. One stated there are so many codes he did not know what to tell me and so he gave me the vehicle back. And said it is working fine now. And that is where when it comes to the electrical parts failing the mechanics want the vehicle when it is not functioning. When they get to it it is fine therefore feel it is best to just leave it at that. I bought the vehicle like this it happened the second day. Then mechanic fixed what he thought was a lose wire. But it continues to happen i have had to have the vehicle towed 5 to eight times with a few of those resulting in the vehicle starting removing from tow or right before going on tow. I usually just go pick up the vehicle at a later time when it has time to rest. I go back and start it as if nothing has happened. Only when starting the vehicle never while driving. The gadgets are the ones that stop working while driving and sometimes when i start the vehicle they are not functioning.

I started engine put it in gear (drive) stepped on gas went about 40mph and i noticed the speedometer was not working and the needle was still at 0. I had to stop the vehicle put it in park turn it off turn it on again put it in drive and then it would work again. Every now and then this would happen, and is very annoying not knowing how fast i am going.

Instrument cluster not working (all gauges flatlined).apparently this is a common problem due to poor solder on the back of the unit.this also led in the past to uncontrolled cycling of the door locks.

$5,975.00 - in the last 16 months the 1999 plymouth voyager van i purchased at courtesy chrysler has been in the shop over 18 times, often for the same problems.i have had to buy 6 new times and 3 new batteries.on average, i have added between 3 and 4 quarts of oil every month and new coolant every 3 months (it over heats a lot).i have suffered verbal and mental abuse from the personnel at courtesy chrysler to the point where i had to jump out of my moving van as my personal service advisor was berating me and told me that there was nothing wrong with my van, the brakes, the engine, etc., during a test drive.when i opened the door to jump out he stepped on the brakes...and they did not work!mind you, they had my vehicle in their shop for the last two days to repair the brakes and my personal service advisor kept saying that the van was fine! after giving me a brand new 2002 chrysler minivan, they said that my van would be ready the next afternoon for pick-up and if there were any problems, they would contact me.

Vehicle caught on fire due to wiring going bad, claim 35-w582-026.

Drain plug is cross threaded and stripped out. Oil change place said they have seen this problem with many chysler mini vans and they have provided me with three related articles that support the facxt that the drain plugs have too short threads which casuses them to strip out easily after normal oil change use. This will end up costing me over $200!! they are claiming that i have to buy a new oil pan, which is probably the same so this will undoubtly happen again the next time i get my oil changed a few times. If this is noted and had been documented many times why hasn't this problem been fixed via a recall?? the easy fix according to the articles is to simply install a longer drain plug with longer threads. Please advise where i can go from here. I am only leasing this vehicle and even bought an extended warrantly, but this is crap!

Vehicle caught on fire due to wiring going bad, claim 35-w582-026.

I have owned 3 chrysler vehicles.each one always has one of the power windows that fail.i had a 1994 grand voyager se; the driver's side window failed and it cost nearly $500 to fix due to a broken piece of plastici have a 1999grand voyager se and the right side powered window suddenly stopped working.i am a disabled vet and i don't have the money to pay $500 to make a window work.the dealer i use is milton ruben in augusta georgia.i recently purchased a 1997 grand voyager with 48k miles with a wheel chair lift on it.even with the low mileage, the engine growls and lack pick up.the right front tire housing suddenlly came loose and is dangling.i hate to ask how much that will cost.

The clock spring in the steering wheel was defective and had shorted.replacement was required and completed at the owner's cost.the clock spring is on recall for various other chrysler vans (our model not included in recall at this time)

Dealer wouldn't repair problem other units recalled but not the 1999 model.dt

Failure of this part caused the vehicle to violently shift to 1st gear at 45 mph. The speedometer and odometer did not read. Vehicle had to be towed.dealer stated that this part should not have failed on such a new vehicle.i purcahsed an extended warranty, which covers powertrain, electrical and standard instrument cluster, but was told that this sensor was not covered, eventhough it controls the instrument cluster.i paid $130 for repair.if this had happened in traffic or at highway speed i shudder to think how the vehicle would have reacted, since the sudden, unexpected downshift caused the vehicle to lurch forward violently. The dealer's service rep said that this part did not usually fail, but that in the past month they had replaced more than usual. I have only had this vehicle for 7 months and it has already left me stranded. Overall, my dealer and service rep were very polite and friendly.please let me know your expert opinion about this incident.

Inferior quality oil pan...oil pan leaked thru on 99 plymouth voyager at 5 ys and 84t mile.releasing oil along van frame and brakes ..causing smoke and strong odor in van comaprtment.had to replace oil pan thru chyrsler as no one else had it.per dealer and mechanics this should not have happened at that mileage and year.chrysler corporate refused to help and could care less..letter to ceo at daimler chrysler and fax went unanswered..

Vehicle not wanting to switch gears.it goes very slow until finally it switches over.the oil was leaking out of the van.the oil leak was repaired.as for the transmission, it all started off when it would slow by itself.then it gradually got worse.on 02-12-03 i had taken it in to get checked for a oil leak and the problem with the gears not shifting.i was told i needed transmission service, to replace the valve cover gasket, and to replace the transmission output shaft seal.i did the repair that was supposed to fix the problem but of course it didn't.i took it in to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with the gears.but said a fuel injection cleaning, throttle body cleaning, and a tune up would fix the problem.this was done on march 26, 2003.they replaced the throttle body gasket and spark plugs.they did find a leak in the head gasket.they had to replace cylinder head gasket, water pump and timing belt.in november of 2000 the front pump seal was leaking, pan gasket leaking, side cover leaking, differential cover leaking, and rear main oil seal leaking.they removed the transaxle, removed and replaced the rear main seal. A few months ago the engine light started coming on when gears wouldn't shift.and it got worse everyday.now the engine light is on all the time.i took it into aamco on 04-23-2004 to get it checked out.they said it wasn't safe to drive so they had to tow it to their station.it passed all the equipment testing and was told it may just be the spark plugs.so i replaced the spark plugs that day.it ran well for a little while.then it started again.i had to stop driving my vehicle because it is a potential danger to my family.it would go very very slow when i was trying to cross the road.and with on coming vehicles on both sides we could easily get into a major collision.i have tried to talk to the chrysler but they refused to help me.and at this point i still don't know what is wrong with it.

1999 plymouth voyager caught fire in the engine compartment.ohio traffic crash report.

The front engine head gaskets were leaking at 24,000 miles.the dealer said that there was no recall.

Transmission failed twice, now has leak on left side head gasket.

My vehicle was taken to the dealer once my husband discovered the oil leak. Replacing a head gasket at the current miles listed is unheard of. I feel that chrysler and the dealership knew of the problem but never made any attempt to contact onwers and advise them of the problem. The dealer did repair the vehicle for $333.10 and said in their response that they split the cost with me. This problem if not discovered by my husband could have led to more serious problems and expenditures of additional funds that should have not been. This problem was related to a poor design and defective workmanship at best. My husband has owned a honda since 1987 and has never had any such problem. I feel that chysler and gary mathews motors have victimized honest consumers such as myself. The dealership waited until the problem surfaced and profited from something that i should have been notified of. The dealership seem to think they have done me a favor by only charging me $300.00 for repairs on a vehicle just over a year o

1999 plymouth voyager van, the van got hotit was not out of water, i took it to a shop because i though it might need a water pump, after they ran a few checks they said that water was not correlating and it was a blown head and would need to be replaced if it could not be milled down. I am wondering what caused this to happen since there was water in the motor and radiator, the shop said this may have been a defect in the heads,

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and with no warningvehicle will shut off, causing consumer to pull over, and it will be hard to get the vehicle back started.dealer notified.

The van will be going along and just shut down.no advance warning.sometimes it will start after setting for 30 minutes, sometimes it has to sit for 24 hours, sometimes for 2-3 days.the van has been towed to the dealership 3 times and each time the van starts right up and runs with no problems.then a week or so later it starts all over again.dealership cannot find the problem.the van is a hazard because it will stop in traffic and you don't know how long it will take to start.

Head gasket failure under normal driving conditions, engine has never overheated.

I purchased a used 1999 plymouth voyager 2.4l minivan with 54,000 miles in april 2001. Six months after purchase and at about 58,000 miles, the vehicle began leaking oil. The oil leak has become progressively worse over the past 3 years, to where i am losing 1 quart of oil per week. The oil is spraying the undercarriage, including the exhaust system. The van now has 88,000 miles.i took the van in recently and they diagnosed the problem as a blown head gasket. The head gasket should not fail at such low mileage!the head gasket is being replaced, at a cost of over $1000!.although no deaths, accidents, fires, damage, etc. Has occurred, there was the potential for an oil fire from the leak. I have done some research and found that this is a common problem with the 2.4l engines on this model!!! something needs to be done about it!

Engine became very hot when drove accidentally through a puddle after a large rain. Had to replace the serpentine belt, was told by mechanic that this happens alot to this particular vehicle because of the one belt controlling so many pulleys/whatevers in the van.shortly there after the engine had clicking noises & was told the lifters had collasped. The van had plenty of oil & water, all filters were updated too. The van developed an oil and transmission fluid leak. We treated this van like a family member- with loving care. Driving on to see family on easter weekend, our van suddenly lost power. We were stranded. The mechanic told us our engine had seized & didn't understand why since we had plenty of oil.the van is too young & has minimal miles on it to have had this happen!

Feb 2003, vehicle is approx. 4 years old, serpentine belt came off pulley, resulting in loss of power steering.difficulty turning which almost resulted in 5 accidents - head on collision.resulted in 3 accidents by being unable to turn vehicle, hitting snow banks, factor involved is heavy snow storm, approx 3 feet.replaced belts and pump.vehicle is out of warranty, i paid nearly $600.00.

The contact owns a 1999 plymouth voyager.the contact stated that while driving through wet conditions the serpentine belt would detach from the vehicle.the vehicle was towed to a dealer four times.each time the dealer would reattach the belt, the same failure would occur.the dealer was unable to explain the reason for the failure.the current mileagewas 104,091 , and failure mileage was 71,798.

Oct. 2000 during rainstorm the serpentine belt came off all pulleys, resulting in loss of power steering and overheating.took to dealer, they replaced tensioner and belt.jan. 10, 2001 driving in rain again, same thing happened: loss of power steering and overheating.towed to dealer, again replaced tensioner and belt, other vans in for same problem.what if driving on freeway and/or curving road in rain ?could result in loss of vehicle control and lives !am now unable to drive vehicle in rain due to obvious design flaw.

While driving serpentine belt continuously slips off, requiringreplacement of a new belt every 3000 miles. Please provide any further information, andvehicle identification number.

Serpentine belt came off twice in one month.had tensioner replaced.did not help.found that this has happened to many other owners of plymouth voyeger in heavy rain and snow.very dangerous, because of loss of power steering on freeway during bad weather conditions.

Wehave the extended warranty on our car. The van has been into the dealer numerous times as recently as june of 2004. At that time it was a transmission problem. This time the van was not shifting up in gears in the automatic transmission. We thought it was a transmission problem. We got the vehicle to the dealership. The next day they told us it was the emission system, and coincidentally we were 42 miles over the factory warranty of 80,000 for the emission system.we then asked our extended warranty company and they are also hedging. We called chrysler and a person by the name of "joe" answered the phone who was very rude and when we asked to speak to a supervisor he replied he "was it. " and when we asked for his last name he refused. What we cannot understand is if the emission system and the catalytic converter is involved, why then would it not be covered? if this system is failing then the engine cannot run right. And if we were only 42 miles over the 80,000 chrysler should honor it since we just had the vehicle in their for the transmission in june or july. Our van has been almost a lemon from the time we bought it, and we have gone back to the same dealer where we bought the car each and every time. West covina chyrsler jeep. It is on record there how many problems we have had. We are very upset with chrysler not stepping up to the plate and covering this $1600 problem!!

After starting the ignition, the air bag warning light would stay illuminated.the cruise control and horn failed to work at times.the egr valve failed. *sc

A part has been ordered for my car since oct 2004. At the time the order was placed i was told there were 1500 on back order from chrysler.today i was again told there are still 1500 nationally on backorder from chrysler.i am told by the dealer that this part is part of my exhaust system and that my automobile will unlikely pass state inspection and that the vehicle could also be leaking carbon monoxide.chrysler/plymouth has been less than helpful in attaining this part and does not seem concerned that this is causing my auto to leak exhaust and carbon monoxide.i am told they are trying to get a new manufacturer for the part but they have no idea when the part will be available. If there is some other agency i should contact, please advise. Thank you.

Head gasket failure with suspected cracked cylinder head. This vehicle has 77k miles and is now undriveable. The heater does not work now, so i can't defrost the windshield. Estimated repair costs $900-1,500.mechanics tell me it's cheaper to replace the engine. I can't afford this.

However, the 2000 and 2002, plymouth grand voyagers did have safety recalls for condensation from the instrument panel air conditioning duckswhich may drop through vent holes in the top of the radio, resulting in a short circuit that subsequently sent direct current to the rear speakers.this could result in a speaker firedue to a short circuiting of the wiring that leads to the rear speaker potentially causing a fire." the contact stated that her insurance agentdetermined that the source of the fire was the connector between the radio and speaker.daimler chrysler provided the contact with reference number 15815602 for this complaint.

Failure of this part caused the vehicle to violently shift to 1st gear at 45 mph. The speedometer and odometer did not read. The transmissions dodge is producing will suddenly kick out of gear withoutwarning(no noise, vibration, etc...). This i s exactly what happenned in my case. Traveling in the left lane of the interstate@ 70mphtransmission suddenly began to coast greatly reducing my speed. I then had to try to cross traffic to get to the emergency lane. The automatic transmission on this vehicle intermittently emits a loud clunk (which can be felt) when shifting between gears.the dealership has tried various fixes, including replacing the memory module, yet the problem persists.they now deny that there is a problem, and claim that their "extensive" transmission tests report that the transmission is operating within normal parameters even though the service manager told me he could adjust the transmission some more.he has since denied making this statement, after chryslers head office was brought in to the equation.as well, chryslers regional representative told me that they would repurchase the vehicle if there was still anything wrong with the transmission, yet have also retracted that statement as well.

While taking off from a stop sign the transmission failed and the vehicle would not roll in any direction and ended up having to be towed to the dealer.this is a potential safety problem because it could have happened in a busy intersection.chrysler refuses to admit that the problem is a defect even though dozens of cases are documented on the internet and the guidebook lemonaid lists the transmissions as having problems for these vehicles.

Transmission wont change gear properly.thetechnician replaced two sensors.the electrical system also didn't work properly. Please provide further information.*nlm

Transmission failed twice, now has leak on left side head gasket.

Transmission failed and stopped the car and killed the engine

While coming to a stop the van made a loud noise, jarred as though hitting a large hole then stalled.the van could be restarted but would not engage when put into gear.the differential pin came out of the carrier assembly and broke transaxle case in three places.the repair took 2 1/2 weeks.dt

While driving approximately60 mph transmission went out, and threwvehicle into 1st gear.mechanic has advised consumer that a part broke insidetranmission.

My transmission had a huge bang and completely shut down. The mechanic said that the pin blew from the inside out. This is a common occurence with these minivans, but chrystler is not helpful at all. I believe that this is a factory defect.

When vehicle is being driven at highway speeds a malfunction occurs withintransmission output speed sensor, causingvehicle to go into low gear, nearly resulting in a collision.the transmission output speed sensor failed at highway speed, resulting in a violent, sudden, and unexpected deceleration due to transmission downshift.

We own a 1999 plymouth grand voyager. At approximately 69,000 miles while driving approximately 35 mph the transmission literally blew up and the vehicle came to a sudden stop and nearly left the road. A part had broken off from the inside of the differential and blew a 6 inch by 3 inch hole through the casing between the differential and transmission. The casing debris that blew into the transmission completely mangled the transmission. No one was injured only because of the slow speed of the car at the time.we have photographs of the transmission and the mechanic's report.

Problems with 1999 plymouth voyager expresso transmission.*mrthe pin came out the differential and it cracked the case. *ph

Purchased used plymouth in october 2007 with 5393 miles on the odometer.registered and drove it from december 3, 2007 to jan 2, 2008.noticed significant amount of transmission fluid under the vehicle and film of fluid on back window and hatch area.observed fluid pumping out from under the car.mechanic tells me the solenoid block most likely has failed and will need to be replaced.i am told this is a "common" failure in later model 41te transmissions.

Transmission is shifting terrible!the back door will not open at all,the side door will not open from inside. My lights from the inside of vehicle goes on and off. While driving down the road the van shakes terrible, it feels like the motor shakes.

The vehicle experienced a transmission leak, and a broken air condition clutch.

Left vehicle in park with air conditionerrunning, and about 20 minutes later van suddenly took off and hit a house.shifter was set in park, but indicator set in reverse.please provide any further information.

Consumer's 3 year old son was able to disengagepark gearwhich allowedvehicle to roll back through his neighbor's garage door without the use of a key.

1999 plymouth voyager se purchased new in 99. 82000 miles @ 90% highway. Transmission started slipping badly. Repair cost $2000. Contact at chrysler andrew miller no help.quote from local mechanic " these are know for torque converters going bad." from the looks of the complaints on the net that is true. No transmission should have to be rebuilt this early. We have had all scheduled and reccomended transmission services performed per owners manuel. Defective product without any help from manufaturer. Also had to replace shocks and struts for $500 mrch 2002 with only 65k mile.defective. Had struts replaced once before under warranty!!

Differential came apart and knocked a whole in transfer case, causingcar to stall and die at 70 mph.

Consumer stated the transmissions differential blew causing it to come right through the side of the transaxle case, this incident occured while driving on a local highway, there was an extremely loud noise that came from under the van as it shook forcefully, then there was an oil substance that covered the windshield, consumer is requesting reimbursement from the manufacturer stating this is a possible defect.

The vehicles transmission failed and was replaced. Consumer has continues problem with this vehicle. In february 2001 the vehicle broke down again.

The seat belt buckles in this van are of a dangerous design. They pop open too often. It's worst for the rear seats where we have at least one incident per month where the buckles have somehow released on their own.*nlm

The gen3 type of seatbelt in our plymouth voyager minivan came accidentally undone when it was bumped by one of my children.there was no accident or injury but it could have been on the child seat which would not have been noticed.

How many lives need to be lost until chrysler replaces the gen3 belts? i have a 1999 voyager and i am very concerned about chrysler's lack of response to this issue. Chrysler would not be around if they had not been bailed out by the people they are refusing to help with this problem.

During roll-over airbags did not deploy when bumper hit, son fell out of seatbelt due to its positioning in van

I am making a formal complaint on my 1999 plymouth voyager, it has the gen 3 seatbelts. I am a father of 4 and i believe they are dangerous to me and my family. I am requsting that legal action be taken against chrysler to force them to replace all gen 3 seatbelts.

By a rub on the buckleseat belt unlocks. Concerned because consumer has 3 children .

Rear seat belts do not lock. Dealer notified.

Consumer wasrear ended and driver and passenger seats were broke. Driver lostcontrol and hit another vehicle. Dealer notified.

Consumer was involved in a 35 t0 40 mph frontal collisionin whichdriver's and passenger's air bags did not deploy. Also, upon impact, both rear seats broke away from the seat tracks which caused a child to be nearly thrown fromvehicle.

In a rear end collison 2 front seats,and1 middle seat collapsed.

On june 7th, 1999 i was on my way to work and i was stopped at a light on denton hwy. In fort worth, texas and i was rear ended by someone.my plymouth voyager was only a month old.when i hit my driver's seat went back in a reclining position and the metal part of my seat broke right into.it was a clean break from the way it looks.we still have the seat.my husband and i both feel that seat might have been defective for it to break into like that.it was only a month old.i talk to the guy we bought it from atmeador chrysler the next day after the accident.he had called us.i told him about the accident and that we were concerned about the seat breaking.he said he was sorry about the accident but that it probably broke from the impact of the collision.he said their seats are made of strong durable stuff.he did not give me the manufacturer's number nor offer it.two weeks later i talk to the customer satisfaction dept. Because they had sent us a letter welcoming us to chrysler family and if we had any concerns to call.i called and talk to him and told him of my concern.all he seemed to be concerned about was where i had the van fixed.again, he did not offer the manufacturer's number.neither of these people told me i shouldnt get my van fixed until an investigation was done nor give me the number to report the accident.i finally got the number from the payment center.i called the manufacturer and spoke to a lady there.she was very nice and told me they should have give me the number so i could report the accident and let them investigate the situation and that i shouldnt have got the van fixed.she said they would investigate and get back with me within 3 days.i got a letter from the investigation dept.telling me that i got the van fixed so there was nothing to investigate.he said the seats were designed to recline back to protect you from neck injuries and protect other people in the van that might not be in a seat belt..

While driving 72 mph, the driver's seat back collapsed backward, almost hitting the floor, becauseboth rear seats were removed to carry cargo. The driver barely kept a grip on the steering and pulled himself upand was able to maintain control of the van.the driver removed the side panel of the seat and noticed that a plastic piece inside the panel had broke. The dealership has been contacted. The cause of piece breaking has yet todetermined.the following day when the emergency parking brakes was disengaged, the lever broke off in the consumer's hand.

I have had the brakes worked on4 different occasions now. Continual loss of brake fluid. When making a left hand turn brake light will come on. Master cylinder has been replaced all brake shoes have been replace, along with calipers. Two weeks passed and brake light starting to come on again, and there was fluid loss.took van back in approx 3 weeks ago to be worked on, and brake light is now coming on again, and staying on longer each time.

The contact owns a 1999 chrysler voyager.while driving between 5-10 mph, the vehicle would not stop.the failure has been occurring everyday since the vehicle was purchased.the brakes have been inspected each year.the contact stated that the brakes are not grabbing.the current mileage was 204,000 and failure mileage was 28.

I have seen on certain chrysler models, especially minivans, with the 2-pin floating caliper design that the surface of the steering knuckle where the brake pads ride wears away and can cause the affected wheel to lock up either during a stop or after the brake pedal is released. This is caused by the brake pads wedging in the groove. If this were to happen during a brake application, the vehicle could veer into oncoming traffic, causing an accident. I have also noticed that the mounting design (ie: bolts and slide pins,) is flawed. The bolts are too short and do not make enough contact with the threads, especially after routine brake maintenance the holes can become stripped. Chrysler recommends a torque of 119 in/lbs or 16 ft/lbs (source: alldata 2011 llc,) although when torqued to specification, the bolt threads strip out. If the bolts were to be loose or ultimately fall off the vehicle, the caliper will ride on the inside of the wheel, making noise or locking the wheel during any driving maneuver; which can lead to a crash. Correction to the failing knuckle is simple if found early enough. The edges can be ground down to allow the pads to move smoothly, shims can be added to compensate for the removed material and a decent high-temperature brake grease should be used on the sliding surface. Correction to the caliper mounting hardware is thread repair with a helicoil set for 9mm bolts. It would be nice to have extended bolts available (metric grade 10.9,) from the manufacturer. Too often than not i have seen these problems where brake maintenance is almost/over due.

It has been noticed that the brakes (the whole system) have to be replaced every three months.the last time the brakes had to be replaced was on 4/28/2003.

Dt:the contact complained aboutbrake problems.there have been three accidents as a result of the brakes not completely stopping the vehicle.whenapplying the brakes the vehiclelurched forward.the vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the brake problems.

Brakes have been replaced twice since vehicle was purchased. Stopping distance has increased, and there is a noise that comes frombrakes. Contacted dealer, and dealer cannot figure out what caused it.

Whenbrakes were applied the pedal went to the floor, causingan extended stopping distance, and resulting in a collision.driver sustained minor injuries.also, dealer has replaced brake pads androtors.

When applying brakes in a sudden/emergency stop vehicle experienced extended stopping distance. Vehicle had been to dealer on three occasions, and they were unable to duplicate the problem.

I have lost my brakes twice, without warning, master cylinder keeps failing.

When pressing on the brakes van would jerk back and forth. Also, back door latch is gettinghard to open.

When turning to the left, the abs brake light comes on until vehicle is turned to the right. When this happens, it goes off. Had taken vehicle to dealer, and mechanic placed it on diagnostic machine and nothing was found. Problem is getting worse.abs brake light has remained steadily on.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 50mph brake pressure was applied and the vehicle had an increased stopping distance.the vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop.the mechanic suggested replacing the antilock brake booster assembly.although the problem persisted, no repairs were made.

Left rear brake cylinder binding causing the rear brake not to release when placed in gear.nlm

While applying the brakes brake pedal went down to the floor, causinga lossofbrake power. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the master cylinder needed to be replaced due to worn out parts.

I have a 1999 plymouth voyager with a 3.3 l engine. Every time it rains or snow the serpentine belt comes off, making it impossible to steer vehicle.i have 5 children that i take from place to place.the alternator stops charging as well.when this happens i lose all control of the vehicle and i cannot steer the vehicle or control the vehicle.

When drivingat any speed air bag warning lightappeared. Consumer also heard rubbing, whistling noise when turning steering wheel.dealer said that vehicle is ok to drive.took vehicle to dealer regarding the air bag warning light, it was found out that clockspring was shorted.clockspring was replaced by dealer.consumer called daimlerchrysler and was told that there's no recall on clockspring on the vehicle.*la

Losing power steering from bumpy roads and during bad weather. This happened three times within a 30 day period......first, while changing lanes in city i noticed that the power steering was hard when i made a right turn, had to keep going with traffic, when i made the second right turn i realized that the steering was out...parked at destination...when i came out noticed something hanging under the van, upon further inspection i found out that it was a belt hanging but it was not broken...when the tow arrived he stated the power steering belt came off...at the auto shop he checked all pulleys and replaced the belt as he said it looked to be new still...i was on my way, no problem......second, while raining we went a good distance, 2 hour drive, returned and when parking noticed the hard steering, looked and yes belt off, since we knew what it was brother put back on......third, on the i-90/94 expressway in the snow, after stopping for gas about 15 mins on expressway steering got hard again, i rode trying to get to exit to stop, car began to reeve when i went over 40mph...finally car began to give out, all lights started blinking, motor just stopped...pulled over under a bridge called 911 they sent tow...at the shop he said belt came off probably when i went over snow at gas station (dec. 20, 2012 blizzard in wisconsin at this time)...all pulleys looked fine, he put belt back on...i rode straight 4 hours without stopping for fear this might happen again and it was getting cold and darker outdoors...finally at home to scared to drive any distance......will have it looked at beginning of new year 2013......would really like to know why this is not a recall when the steering can go out at anytime...this is very dangerous, especially for those of us that travel on expressways often...12.29.2012 [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Steering wheeland column broke.

The vehicle experienced the same defect as mentioned in nhtsa recall 02v293000; clockspring failure; the dealership indicated that this is the same problembut this vehicle is not included due to the vin. Elizabeth beach & ms. Jennifer jones of aaa mid-atlantic insurance group.i got no satisfaction from chrysler or from my own insurance company.my insurance company didn't write back to say whether or not they will investigate the matter.my insurance rates will probably go up because of this defect.if i were on a highway doing 55 miles an hour and the car tie rods failed at that time i would have more than likely been injured or killed along with my family members and maybe my grandchildren would have been in the vehicle with us.i'm angry and don't want anyone else to experience this problem because of a manufacturer's defect that they are not willing to admit to.

Complaint received via e-mail. I have a serious concern regarding a rusted cover housing on suspension springs on the front, drivers side of my 1999 plymouth voyager van. I would not have been aware of this defect if i had not had my motor power washed recently. The man that cleaned it pointed out this seriously rusted cover above the suspension ,and told me it could collapse, causing the entire suspension to project up and through the windshield, and cause a serious accident.this was common on plymouth voyagers. I also inquired at a body shop, and was given the same information, and a shown a picture of a car they were presently working on which happened to be the exact same 1999 plymouth voyager as mine! dealersaid that this was common on this vehicle model. I went to the dealership, and they told me to contactchrysler corporation by calling their 800 number. Upon calling t customer service i was informed they would make a note of my concern but there was nothing they could do. Consumerbelieved this was a serious safety factor that should be taken caresooner rather than later, before a life threatening accident would occur.

1999 plymouth grand voyager i bought it on 11-16-01, it had 32739.5/03 it started to squeal under the hood then i was driving and thebelt broke so i had it towed. They replaced the belt. Then about 1 1/2 weeks later the same thing happened so i took it to the bill walsh in streator illinois where i purchased it and they put a new belt on.around 5/10 i started hearing the squealing so they checked the pullies and replaced the belt.the squealing stopped and about 3 weeks later again the squealing started.the same thing as last time, they replaced the belt squealing stopped. It starts squealing again. So instead of bringing it back for another repeat(big mistake) i drove it with the squealing until 2/10/04 when i heard a big clunking sound under the hood and it was half the belt breaking.it wore through so they replaced belts again and charged me $140.86. The clunking started so i called themand they couldn't get the van in for 2 days so i had to miss more days off work because they said they didn't have a vehicle for me to drive. So again they checked everything and said the power steering pulleypump was crooked on the bracket so they adjusted it and put another belt on. Well i was still calm and on3/11/04again i was on my way to work and i heard the thumpingunder the hood so after what happened last time i turned around and went straight to the dealer and nicely asked them to get a car so i could get to work.they did lend me one and they changed the belt again this time they changed the belt tensioner and they tried to make me pay for the tensioner saying they would split the cost with me. I pay for the tensioner, they pay for labor & belt and so i told them no, he said he would talk to his boss when he did call me back he said they would pay the bill under goodwill for customer satisfaction.my van has only 68056 miles on it and its vin # is[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
