The air bag light illuminated.
Airbag deployment was violet, causing facial lacerations/right eye injury.
Investigation currently open by nhtsa ea01007.my airbag light would come on and sometimes extinguish during driving but come back on later.finally the airbag light stayed on constantly.over the course of a month, the cruise control and horn quit working as well.i inadvertantly stumbled across this open nhtsa case while looking for a wiring diagram to begin looking into the horn problem first.while the van is 6 years old i understand that dodge/plymouth have replaced over 400,000 clock spring assemblies.the dealership charged me $223.30 to replace the part including labor.it would seem that a fair amount of these assemblies have failed which i would expect to last for the lifetime of the vehicle.i would have been willing to pay for the part if dodge/plymouth would install it for free.not only did they charge to install it, they were ready to charge me an additional $70.00 diagnostic fee if that wasn't the problem.i'm very disappointed that dodge/plymouth is very well aware of this problem which is obviously safety related as i have driven around for 2 - 3 months with an airbag light on which i'm sure others are doing and then they make a nice profit on charging me to fix a defect they are very well aware of. If i can answer any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

I recently heard a news report on a local radio station that the government has launched an investigation into the combined failure of the air bag system, cruise control and horn on approx 3 million mini vans. Unfortunately, i suspect my van currently has this same problem.it has not been examined by my chrysler dealer although i did contact them and they advised they were unaware of this type of problem and claimed to have not received any report from chrysler about this.i also called chrysler customer assistance and they too were "unaware" of any problems and simply documented my concern.i would like to know if chrysler is indeed aware of multiple problems with this same failure or are they avoiding admitting to the investigation. I was quite suprised to read in my paper today about the investigation (ea01007) and how the symptems matched mine exactly. About 6 months ago, the air bag light illuminated apon start up and now stays on for the full duration of the drive. A few weeks after that, the cruise control began a bizzare on again, off againpattern.each time you started the car, it was a crap shoot to see if cruise would be working. A few weeks after that, we noticed the horn no longer works. I'm leary of bringing the vehicle in for "diagnostics" considering some of the repair costs i've heard, associated with air bag system repairs.i would like to be advised as to what chryslers response was and is regarding your announced investigation.thank you.

In march my airbag light stayed on and then the windshield wipers failed to work.i then a burning odor came out of the heating unit. I brought it into a chrysler dealership to get fixed.this is the work needed to repair the car.switch multifuntion, clockspring for airbag.complete replacement of the bcm due to the airbag malfuntion andwiper malfunction.,replaced the multifunction switch.bcm recontroller reprograming and replaced clock spring to repair air bag lamp coming on.the final cost with labor totaled $843.44i called chrysler to see if this malfunction would be covered and i was told no.the service department said it is rare that the system fails in a car with my milage.chrysler was very nasty on the phone and said they would not consider any responsibility towards the payment of the defect.i asked to speak to a manager etc....and i was told that i could not be forwarded to anyone else.i was told by the rep on the phone that the final decision was made.last week i heard on the radio about an investigation on the possible defects of the vehicles clockspring assembly which provides the electricity for the wipers etc....i did not check to see if it had affected the horn or cruise control because i had not used both during that time.it seems the faulty clockspring possible blew out the electrical system which resulted in the need for a replaced bcm component.i am hoping if this is found to be a defect chrysler will reimburse the $843.44 to me.
The airbag light stayed on and the horn failed to work. I took the vehicle to a dealer for an inspection. They said they found the d/s squib circuit open and clockspring inop. They replaced the clockspring{#4687630af} and seal pkg{cbxg8450}. The total cost was $217.18. I also had recall #845 corrected at this time as well. Two safety issues on the same vehicle is not a comforting situation. I am very concerned of the reliability of this vehicle as my wife is the primary driver to transport my children. Your attention in this matter is greatly appreciated.

During hot weather dash air bag indicator light illuminated, horn did not function & cruise control no longer functioned. Certified service center has identified problem is due to clock spring in steering column (ref nhtsa action #: ea01007).air bag light came on first...cruise control still work intermittently. Did not become aware of horn malfunction until needed for collision avoidance (near miss, no damage).reference nhtsa recall # 98v046 for same issue in different make vehicle by same manufacturer.reference chrysler tsb # 08-010-01 may 01 that covers broad range of makes and models. This investigation was opened in feb-2001. Why was a recall issued on wrangler and not minivan when both use same system?
For no reason, the airbag light on the steering wheel came on and has stayed on, the cruise control will not come on anymore, the horn will not work anymore, and the wipers are acting erratically.i contacted the dealer and they said the "clockspring" assembly in the steering wheel needs replaced for ~ $300-$350.they said it is a common problem.i checked online and found numerous reports of this failure so i thought i would report it.as i understand it, this design defect has effectively disabled my airbag and i think the manufacturer should fix it.

Clock spring in the steering column that controls driver airbag, cruise control, and horn did not work at time of purchase, was replaced by dealer.
The air bag light was intermitent for the last couple of months but 2 weeks ago it came on and stayed on. I saw on tv that this was a known problem with the clock spring int the 1996 voyagers and could be harmful if the bag accidently went off or worse didn't go off in a crash. Please push a recall! the wiper blades have come on without activation since new. The dealer replaced the switch once but said they could not duplicate whenever i took it back under warranty.now they come on frequently and it becomes distracting to the point that it could cause an accident. The fuel gauge indicates 3/4 full when the tank is full and the low fuel lite comes on when there is still 5-6 gallons in the tank. This was reported under warranty but i was told there was nothing wrong. Now it's in the tech bulletins and i have to pay to have it fixed. The door locks have been replaced on 3 of the 4 doors by chrysler. The drivers door twice, and sliding door twice. Once we couldn't get out the sliding door. The ignition module went bad this labor day weekend. I parked and the car wouldn't start so i had it towed to hoffman chrysler in hagerstown, md. They troubleshot it to the module no having a ground. The warning code indication the auto shutdown circuitry was activated. What if this happened on the interstate at 65 mph?

Seems to be a common problem with chrysler vans.something to do with a clock spring, that is in the steering wheel column.i have found other examples on the internet and there was mention of a class action law suite.costs around $190 to $260 to fix.my father in laws chrysler van has same problem with air bag light.not sure about horn.

The service man (mac) at the dealership where the van was repaired told us the reason for the airbag light coming on for no reason was because of a bad clock spring.he said that this could cause the airbag to possibly not deploy in an accident and/or even deploy when you're just driving down the road.our thoughts immediately were safety related and contacted daimlerchrysler who sent me an email telling me the recall process.they also agreed to pay for the part only, we paid for labor.we were wondering how a part could go bad that was never used?

Air bag light came on over 18 mos ago and i was told it was a computer chip and was not a defect.it will cost over $500 to repair according to the dealer.i was also told that the driver airbag may or may not deploy in a collision, they did not know.
5/21/96, my son and i were impacted at left front of our 1996 ply voyager van by a 1987 chrysler.when i applied the brakes, they locked up, we slid slighthly to the right side -- the force from the impact was enough to shatter the transmission housing, the starter, damage the rack and pinion steering, and crumpled the front end in such a way that the passenger door could not be opened.the shoulder harnesses locked up, but neither air bag deployed. The car was alegedly looked at by chrysler engineers and it was determined that "the sensor had not been hit"... My son and i both sustained permanent injuries as a result of this accident. My question, with this speed, and this front end damage, why did the bags not deploy? i don't buy not hitting the sensor. I've read report after report identifying the sensor as deploying at 8mph... This accident was serious. Law enforcement at the scene said 5mph faster and there would have been a fatality.( dot number: )

The consumer received a recall notice on child seat belt straps but the dealer cleaned the strap instead of replacing it. The problem reoccurred and the dealer wants to charge for the service but the consumer states the recall was not done and he should not be charged for the service.

Defective electrical systemcauses the battery to be inoperative, and vehicle tostall while driving.this could potentially result in a crash.please provide further information.
Basically, this vehicle has had several electrical problems since i have owned it ( i am the original owner).the windshield wipers go on intermittently , i have put 3 or 4 new batteries in it.the alarm system does not function properly.i have heard the nhtsa is investigating the air bag, horn and cruise control problem.has any decisions been made so that i wonthave to pay $300.00 to fix this defect. ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****770839
Consumer stated that while driving, the wiper comes on intermittently, battery failed five times, power locksgo up and down, dome light, ajar light, and bell rings on and off due to electrical system failure.
Consumer stated that while driving without warning the electric system failed causing the consumer to lose steering control and brakes. Dealer notified. Ts
We had a 1996 plymouth minivan that has been giving us problems with electrical and engine. It wouldn't shift, the cruise control would stick, the battery would be drained even though nothing was left on. On tuesday, dec. 9th 2008 we moved our van to clear our driveway of snow. Within 10 minutes it started on fire in the dash. Somewhere near or in the glove box. The van is a total loss due to the fire department having to use high pressure water, fire extinguisher, cutting wires and fire/smoke damage.
The contact owns a 1996 plymouth voyager.since november of 2003, the transmission has been replaced three different times.after purchasing a brand new transmission, it failed again the very same day and needed to be replaced again.the contact has had the top half of the engine rebuilt.the vehicle is stuck in drive and will not hold fluid.the front windshield wipers activate without a power surge in the vehicle.in addition, the rear bolts keep coming out of the shocks.the contact has taken the vehicle to have the bolts tightened three or four times.the engine is ticking and smoking.the serpentine belt slips off if it gets even slightly wet from snow or rain.the check engine light sporadically flashes on and off or constantly remains illuminated.the air conditioner was completely serviced; however, it cannot be used because of the transmission failure.the current mileage was 155,000 and failure mileage was 116,250. Electrical problem causes with windshield wipers, dome lights, 'door ajar' light, door locks, and turn signals on dash.
Failure of electical system caused the alarm, electic door locks and ignition to fail.yh
The gas gauge indicator reading is incorrect, the gauge reads less fuel in the tank.the sending unit was replaced.also, when traveling the rear window shattered, causing the glass fragments to enter the passenger compartment.in addition, multiple electrical problems, causing inside/accessory lightsand windshieldwipers to come on by themselves.
Ongoing problem with vehicle losing power and unable to start due to eletrical short. Vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on six occasions, and nothing could be found. Problem occurs in cold / warmoperation.
The power locks go up and down, the dome light flickers on and off, the door ajar light illuminates, the bell sound intermittently, the dealer adjusted the door and secured switch.nlm

Me and my son was driving down the interstate when all of the sudden my speedometer stopped working and the rpms was going uptoa dangerous zone ,i let off the gas to try and avoid a engine blow up and the rpms was still quite high, i manged to get us off with out getting ran into from behind, i went 25 mphgoing home at therate of rpms at 3 1\2 to 4,i have no ideal as to what is going on but a few things i have read so far sounds like maybe emissions or trasmission, i live on a fixed income and disabled ,i wished i knew about all the recalls and the troubles the voyager had before i bought it, well some one wish me luck , thanks
Windshield wipers worked intermittently. The consumer also experienced electrical defects. The lights and radio were sometimes effected. Provide further details.consumer feels this is very dangerous since the wipers stopworking in the middle of a rain storm which leads to poor visibility.
Consumer requested reimbursement regarding the air bag recall. Also all of the spark plugs were replaced.
Recall # 99v216000 daimlerchrysler /fuel pump; van has been serviced under recall campaign twice. The van was serviced first right after memorial day, and serviced again about 4 or 5 days later. Fuel continues to leak from the van. Also has problems with abs and electrical system. *ml
A new battery was installed due to loss of electrical power.
Vehicle had been to dealer twice , would not start, bought new battery. Next day dead again.dealer said headlight stayed onthat causedbattery to be drained. Next night vehicle was burning, flames and smoke from under the hood. Fire department had to cut open hood to get to engine, left side of engine was melted. Vehicle at dealers since then.
This van had electrical problems from the beginning. The transmission was just the final straw for us. Then to see how many other people had put multiple transmissions in their chrysler vans. It's a crime.
Changed battery 3 times don't know mileage/changed starter 2x.second time transmission went - was told i was lucky to get another 30, 000 miles out of it.

This vehicle has had problems ever since it was new.i have had major components replaced and it isnt even paid for yet.the alternator was replaced when it had less than 4,000 miles on it.the wipers still come on by themselves inexplicably - sometimes the key is not even in the ignition!they still have not remedied that problem.the major complaint i have is the engine.i truly believe this is a dangerous vehicle.i had the oil galley plug recall done (supposedly) and in september i had to have a head gasket job done on this van.in the recall it states, and i quote "in certain vehicles, the engine cylinder head oil galley plug does not seal properly and engine cylinder head oil is not adequately retained.well, they tried to tell me the two repairs were unrelated.i disagree.if my recall was done properly, then why do my records indicate i complained of oil leaks after that recall was done?and if oil was leaking from the oil galley plug, wouldnt that cause breakdown of the head gasket over time?it would.now the latest:yesterday, february 26, 2000, the engine began sputtering and the check engine light came on (i had 1/2 tank of gas).i had to have it towed, once again, to have it worked on.this van has been in the shop more than it has been on the road.i could not, in good conscience, ever sell it to someone else.so now i feel like i am stuck with a piece of garbage.i would like reimbursement for the expense of repairs, plus what it has cost me in renting a vehicle to drive while they repaired this lemon.
Dealer refuses to discuss manufacturing defect of transmission. Unacceptable to have total transmission failure at only 49,000 miles!
Airbag light on, horn and cruise control not working either.
Horn failure and cruise control. Dealer says clock spring has failed.dt
Airbag light came on, horn and cruise control stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly.
While driving air bag light came on andremained. This causedhornand cruise control not to be working.

Ea o1 007/air bag clockspring: vehicle experiencing no horn and air bag light remains on. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
Due to failure of clock spring, unable to use horn and airbag inoperative-safety compromised.this part was on the news as a problem but not a recall yet!cost $345.oo to fix.this system should not fail.
Horn would stop working intermittently.finally, it stopped working completely without a warning.
Airbag light came on. Horn and cruise control would not work. Consumer took vehicle to a mechanic, and they replacedclock spring
When airbag light came on, horn stopped working, along with cruise control.reported via phone immediately to service dept.stated common failure.able to diagnose over the phone.told me "not to worry" because airbag would not deploy.light indicated failure.had to pay dealer $295.55 to have repaired.
Airbag indicator is always on, and the airbag will not function if there is a crash. Also horn does not operate so there is no warning device.
Srs light stays illuminated while driving. Also, the horn assembly is inoperable. Dealer has been notified.
While drivinghorn was inoperative. Dealership did not repair the recall because the consumer was over 70,000 miles recall limit.
I needed to use my horn to warn another driver who was cutting in front of me and discovered that my horn would not work.my airbag light also was on.i tried other features and found that my cruise control would not work.i took the van to the dealer who informed me that i needed to replace my clock spring in order to get power to the nonworking features.i am reporting this as a result of an article in the news regarding your investigation of defective clock springs in daimler chrysler vans 1996-2000.
Please help. Air bag light on dashboard is on and my horn doesn't work. Dealer told me minivan is out of warranty and would cost close to $500.00 to fix. I'm a disabled 69 year old vet and i can't afford to fix it.
Airbags lights stays on/ speed control and horn do not work. Clockspring failure.
Vehicle was taken to the dealer because the air bag light illuminated. Also vehicle was taken to dealerfor recall 02v293000 clockspring repairs. Dealer attempted to repair the problems under the recall, but was only able to fix the horn.air bag light was still illuminating, andcruise control did not function.consumer requested a call back.
Failure of this part rendered the airbag system ineffective.also the horn would not work, nor would the cruise control work.approx $230 to fix.t work.
Air bag light flickered then stayed on, cruise intermittent, no horn.
Consumer took a road trip and airbag light stayed on.cruise control went out, and there was no horn. Dealer stated clock spring goes out of adjustment, drops contact, and everything drops down. Repair included removing airbag and steering wheel, cost $375 to fix.consumer states the clockspring was replaced on 25-jul-01 and until it had been replaced the airbag, cruise control, and horn were inoperable.
Airbag light would come on and stay on.hornwon't blow. Whenhorn would start to workairbag lightwent out.
Failure disabled airbag and horn. Very dangerous!! can't blow horn to avoid accident
The van was involved in a head on collision mostly on the drivers' side.neither dual air bags deployed. The owner has just received the recall for the "clock spring" 01-27-2003. Ph
Horn wont blow, cruise control won't work, andairbag light is constantly on.
Air bag light stays, on and horn does not blow. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated itwas not under warranty.
The problem is that the air bag warning light stays on, horn cannot work, and lose the cruise control. This indicates the malfunction in air bag system, horn circuit, and the speed control.
The horn quit working, cruise contron quit working, air bag light remained lit after starting.
Airbag light is on, horn and cruise control not working either.
Airbag light is on, andhorn/cruise control stopped working, clock spring assembly needed to be replaced.
In 1999, interior lights failed. 10/2001 horn failed, and airbag lights go on/off :apparenlty it is the modularthat control all these items and more such as milege, etc. Called dealer. Said chrysler has recall on airbag but not for my year.
Engine light stays on, airbag light stays on, horn and cruise control inoperable. Suspect defective clockspring est cost to repair $250-400.
The clock spring broke on this vehicle.this disabled the horn and power to the cruise control.i know a few other minivan owners and i am not the only person that this happened to.i have never had a problem with steering wheel components with any vehicle i've owned in 30 years.i believe that there is a possible defect in this area.
The air bag/ clockspring was defective and affected the horn, cruise control and automatic locks.this is becoming a common problem for vehicles similar to my make, model and year, according to our mechanic.upon research via internet, its an apparent problem and yet a recall has not been issued.i would like reimbursement since this was defective.thank you for looking into this matter.
Airbag light stays on. Horn and cruise control do not work. Dealer has advised consumer to fix the defect, clock spring would have to be replacd at consumer's expense.
This assembly disables the airbag system. It also disables the criuse control and horn systems.
Horn does not work, and airbag sensor light is on.consumer feels airbag may or may not depoy. Can't warn other drivers. Cause unknown.please provide any further information.
Airbag light came on, horn and cruise control quit working.
While drivingair bag light will come on dashboard. Consumer is concerned for deployment ofair bags.the clock spring failure caused the air bag light to come on and was repaired.the horn does not work sometimes.
The clockspring assembly, the system that provides electricity for the driver side air bag, horn and cruise control. The air bag readiness indicator lamp came on and the horn, and cruise control does not work
Clock spring insteering column has caused airbag lightto come on, horn to fail, and cruise control to stop working.dealership has repaired this defect at consumers cost.please provide any additional information/attachments.

Vehcile will stall without warning while driving.
Transmission stuck in first gear, also abs failure, causing brakes to shake, engine would lose powerwhile accelerating onto freeway; front windshield wipers would come on on their 0wn.
Built-in child safety seat tends not to release occupant when it is being released, also intermittent stalling.
Purchased truck new with a 1,000 miles when driving sometimes the truck stalls. Please describe .
While driving 60-70 mph vehicle will shut down for no reason. Engine check light comes on.also computer and ignition coil have been changed. Problem remains.
Vehcile will stall without warning while driving.
Vehicle has lost power while driving, will stall at any speed.
Electroniccontol unit is bad.this controlls the wipers as well as many other things.only the windshield wipers do not at this time.i thought we would crash into some when we were on the highway and a big rainstorm hit.we could'nt see anything, it was very scarry.dealer estimates $579.00 for repair/replacement.chrysler said "too bad""not our problem".also, the parking brake does not hold.i had that checked @ the dealer, who said it could not be adjusted any further w/o risk of the brakes locking up.they also mentioned, the cable was fine, it was not stretched and did not need to be replaced.when we use the ac system, it gives off a bad smell.i think there is some filter in the system somewhere, but they state at the dealership, it does not affect the interior smell of the vehicle when replaced.in otherwords, it will not make the smell go away.the lugage rack does not stay locked in place when adjusted.the locks will not work to hold the adjustable bars in place.the cruise control accelerates far too quickly from the steering column buttons.it also does not dissengage when i try to use the buttons.thank you for your time and patience!:o)
While going around a curve at about 10 mphvehicle lost all power and cut off without any warning.consumer had vehicle towed to a mechanic, and mechanicreplacedecm system.
Engine failure occurs after driving for 25 to 90 minutes.failure would occur ramdomly regardless of season, weather, or temperature.first indication of failure would be a loss of power and reduction in speed.the engine would not respond to increases of throttle position.the rate of loss of speed would increase till the vehicle was hardly moving.there would be bucking and backfiring through the intake.the check engine soon dashboard warning light turns on.engine stalls and will not restart. Has happened in 2003 4 times and on 1/16/04, 1/23/04 and 1/30/04 the last after replacing ecm (computer).
The vehicle stalls when a/c is turned on due to faulty power control module.yh

I think there is some kind of wiring problem & am afaid may start a fire or something!
1996 plymouth voyager ;when ignition key is switch to on.front windshield wiper will turn on for a brief period and power door lock makes like a grinding noise.note the engine has not been crank and started yet and all the switches has been off and not touch at all.eventually a few days after incident some switches to the hvac fan has not been working and the factory stereo eventually malfunction.you cannot tune the am/fm tuner it stays in 1 station.the automatic transmission at times wont shift and other times will shift without problem.the minivan has 48.500 miles only.i brought it to the dealer at mall chysler and they recomended transmission fluid replacement and replace clock spring, and repair fluel rail-injection.there is no change in the transmission shift,it still occasionally refuses to shift at times noticing the tach needle going at 4,000rpm with speed of only 30-40mph.the symptoms remains with wiper having a mind of its own turning on when inginition is on.another prolem comes up after i brought van to the dealer.occasionally interior lights will come on when i'm driving.also head gasket leaking.i hope chrysler will help me.
In late june of 2004 vechicle had stalled while driving for no apperent reason and would not start. The emc was replaced. Five months later it repeated the same problem... All wiring has been checked emc replaced, coil pack replaced, crank shaft sensor replaced and the dealership cannot find the problem after 6 weeks.
The design of the lamp assembly allows arcing to occur between the bulb holder and the reflector assembly.arcing caused problem in the electrical contacts, melted and charred the plastic reflector assembly.mfg was contacted but chose to take no action.damage was limited to contact area in reflector.however would expect that fire/charring of plastic could extend in some cases to cause ignition of entire assembly.condition has been occurring for some time based on damage but was only found when lamp appeared to be "burned out".dates and mileage are actually unknown for when event started.mr
Changed battery 3 times don't know mileage/changed starter 2x.second time transmission went - was told i was lucky to get another 30, 000 miles out of it.
Engine caught onfire under the hood while being parked. Owner had smelled plastic melting before hand.
There was no events leading up to the failure. Parked vehicle in front yard and engine caught on fire. Fire inspector said fire was due to electical failure. Insurance totaled vechile. Called daimlerchrysler still waiting for response.
There was no events leading up to the failure. I have had no proablems with thevehicle. I parked the van in the yard and it started on fire under the hood.the fire inspector said the fire was from the wiring. My insurance totaled the vehicle. I have contacted daimlercrysler and i am still waiting for a response.
The vehicle caught on fire under the hood.
Within seconds upon startingthe vehicle it burst into flames from under the hood.fire department indicated that the fire was due to an electrical system failure.

My minivan had a slight jerk and the tachometer and speedometer went to zero, the engine was still running and all lights were on so i continued, when the car was restarted the guages registered correctly.10 days later the same thing happened on acceleration.then the guages all pegged at high end and blue smoke poured from under the hood.the resulting fire burned out my started, battery and wiring harness.a chrysler dealership is repairing the problem, but under my auto insurance instead of vehicle warrenty.this same symptom of the guages going to zero was reported to my by a friend who owns of a 1997 dodge caravan. This fire was extremely scary and i wanted a record of it in case of reports by other owners of similar problems thank you.
A fuse burned out 4 or 5 times, causing the lights on the dash to go out. Dealers can't find a permanent solution.
The engine stalled and would not restart.
Windshield wipers come on by themselves, (they have since i bought the van) and front interior lights flicker. Today the switches began to smoke.
Windshield wiper problem has been fixed at least 2 times by dealer.problems continue on an intermittent basis.we never know when they will activate by themselves.park in middle of windshield.recently problem developed on an intermittent basis.headlights will not always turn on.also dashboard displays goes blank on intermittent basis
All the dash panel lights blinked out, making it impossible for consumer to read guages.dealer has been contacted.
While drivinginstrument panel will start to act up,speedometer will start to jump up and down in speed, and anything else. Then, vehicle will shut off without any notice. Contacted dealer.
Circuit board fails intermittent, causing multiple electrical malfunctions.
We first noticed the problem in june of 1999.the door ajar light and chime would go off intermittently, particularly on bumpy roads.we would check all the doors, they would all be shut.we took the car back to the dealer we'd purchased it from.on 6/28/99 they re-aligned the driver side door to "fix the problem". Everything was ok for awhile.we noticed the problem again in sept of 1999.we returned to the dealer 10/8/99; they replaced the driver-side switch.the problem continued.on 10/21/99 they examined the car and ordered a body control module. At this point it was almost continuous dinging and flashing of the dome lights.they replaced the module on 11/3/99. It was better for a couple of weeks, and then the dinging and flashing started again.we contacted the dealer, they ordered another module, which was installed on 12/29/99.the problem continued.they ordered still another module, which was installed on 1/11/2000.the problem remains.the dealer has instructed me that they will have to replace the module again.i do not feel this will solve this problem.i feel there is something wrong with the electrical system in this vehicle.i am very concerned because it is hazardous to drive this vehicle at night because when the dome lights flash on and off visibility is very poor.my husband drives the vehicle to work at night and has had to pull the fuse for the interior lights on many occasions due to safety concerns.i have been to the dealer on 6 occasions for this problem and they have replaced the body control module three times.each time the problem remains and it gets no better.
The clockspring connector routes the driver's airbag and horn wiring from the rotating steering wheel to the stationary column.it broke, leaving both the airbag and horn inoperative.i noticed an erratic airbag warning light for 6 months and recently found the horn no longer worked.i replaced the clockspring assembly and took apart the old unit to diagnose.it does not use wipers, but rather a coiled flat cable with ~ 6 flat copper leads.since my van does not have cruise control, only 3 of the leads are used.i found that the flat cable is folded back tightly upon itself to secure at the inner rotating connector.all the leads were broken at this sharp bend.a thin plastic sheet is against the cable at this tight fold in an apparently lame attempt at strain relief.thisdesign is guaranteed to fail after so many turns of the steering wheel.tsb 08-010-01 notes many failures, claiming they are due to servicing issues.safety recall 982 for failed clocksprings in dodge pickups.all affected chrysler vehicles should be recalled.i spent $80. For the part and much time fixing mine. Ts
I understand this component is defective and/or under investigation. No safety defect listed.
The contact owns a 1996 plymouth voyager. The contact stated the engine oil leaked excessively from the vehicle, which required oil to be added to the reservoir every four days. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 96v006000 (engine and engine cooling:engine:gasoline) however, the manufacturer informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall, which was expired. I'm having a problem right now concerning the van's ignition or fuel component.since june, 2003 the engine will all of the suddent die or the compression goes down to a minimum that will allow the engine to only run; this has happened four times.then when i let the engine cool down for awhile, i can start it up and it will run ok for a while.mechanics are telling me that they can't tell what the problem is until the problem shows itself; also they say it could be some kind of ignition module of some sort.on two of the occasions, i was on a major freeway with my three kids in tow and we were stranded in the car pool lane. If you have any ideas of what the problem could be please let me know.also, my windshield wipers go on at any time on their own and my paint peels in the back top of the van adjacent to the back hatch.
The consumer has experienced the following problems.transmission failure, fuel rail line and tank. Clockspring, head gasket, and the wipers will come on when not in use.scc ph

My husband was driving his 1996 plymouth voyager van when the engine started racing. He was pulling into a parking spot, and when he tried to stop the van, the brakes could not stop it, and it hit a car in front of it. The engine (long block) had to be replaced because of the oil pump failure causing damage to the heads. We were told that the engine looked like it had never been serviced (neglected). We have documentation of services at the dealerships. In july 1999, engine overheated and the fan relay was subsequently recalled. In oct, 1999, we had problems with an oil leak. The dealership checked it and said it looked like the oil had never been changed in 5 years. The oil was thick like tar. They cleaned out the whole system with detergents and chemicals. The vehicel overheated again a week after the new engine was put in. The fan engines had shorted and the fan relay damaged too. It just seems like we have had to replace the engine, after 5 years, because of overheating problems that damaged it.

My engine has had several problems, and every time they "fix" it, something else happens.it is still sputtering and the check engine light came on again even after i spent 650.00 to have it fixed a few weeks ago.now, yesterday they did yet another fuel system recall, and today (4/15/00) the check engine light came on and it is sputtering again.i am sick of sinking money into this van and it is not even paid for.also, the number of fuel system and engine recalls they have had is dangerous.most of their recalls have had to do with the possibility of the van catching fire.i hate to think about what could happen to my children while riding in this vehicle.they need desperately to put out a recall on the head gasket leaking oil.i had to have a $1,000.00 head gasket job at 60,000.that is ridiculous.i think it was due to improper repair of the oil galley plug recall, but they say that is not related, even though in the recall notice it states that "engine cylinder head oil galley plug does not seal properly and engine cylinder head oil is not adequately retained.inadequate sealing and retention of the plug can result in oil leakage..."how can they say my van leaking oil from the cylinder head was not related?please respond.i need some help on this matter.

Tensioner pulley on serpentine belt system of engine has failed twice since i have owned this vehicle.first failure was at approximately 30,000 miles.pulley had seized on its bearings, and stopped turning.the failure forced the serpentine belt to run continuously against a non-rotating member of the belt drive train.this failure did not cause the belt to break, however it did cause premature wear on the belt.if the failure had not been detected, the belt would have broken due to fatigue and heat related stress, causing loss of power steering assist, and power brake assist, as well as loss of engine water pump function, and loss of alternator function.dealer replaced the pulley assembly at approx 30,000 miles.the replacement subsequently failed somewhere prior to reaching 54,000 miles, and failed in the same manner -- it seized on its bearings and stopped turning.dealer again replaced pulley assembly.two failures of the same subassembly indicates to me that this particular component has an inherent design flaw.undetected failure of this part can lead to sudden loss of the serpentine belt which will cause instant loss of power steering assist and power brake assist, either of which can lead to a serious accident.

The evaporator for the air conditioner has developed a leak and i have lost all coolant.the repair costs are substantial because the front dash has to be removed to replace the evaporator.although my mini-van is less than 3 years old, it is out of warranty due to the mileage.a friend of mine who owns an autobody shop mentioned that he has replaced quite a few evaporators in voyager & caravan mini-vans recently.is this a common problem with these mini-vans?
The air-conditioner failed to work properly during the first hot spell of the year.the dealer diagnosed a coolant leak. Although it was a slow leak that very likely began while the vehicle was under warrenty, plymouth would only pay 70% of the repair bill because the problem was discovered after the 36000 mile warrenty ran out.

The headlight lenses on my 1996 plymouth voyager van are deteriorating. You could say they are fogging up. I looked at them with a magnifying glass and it looks like there are tiny cracks. 1996 plymouth grand voyager se, headlamp lenses turn opaque when they age until they reach a point where it is dangerous to operate the vehicle at night.i called a dealer and he said they are made of plastic and it is up to the consumer to replace them at a cost of $558.00 ($279.00 each).i consider this a safety defect - the lenses should be made out of a material that does not degrade significantly with age.

My family and i have been driving around in this vehicle for three to almost four year with a recall on the fuel pump parts problem which has been stated in writing by the damiler chrysler corporation has caused a under body fire if not corrected. My question is and concern with this is how long have i had this car with this problem of a possible under body fire.my four girls and i have smell some kind of burning chemical smell when driving the car tha comes from under the hood into our car making us all sick comming and going in this car and giving us all migraine headaches. For three years we have suffered with migraine headaches when driving in this car only. My husband has another car and we do not get sick in his car, of course we don't smell the fumes either. It seems that the chrysler coorporation took care to cover themselves with a recall on this part but took no part the fatal driving conditions that they exposed my family to. I am devastated emotionally with the knowledge that i have been driving myself and my kids around in a potential bomb. I am now having to take out the time to get my kids medically checked for any poisonus chemical exposure and myself.my airbag does not work and hasn't for a while and is suppose to be some kind of safety feature. Will that be the next recall? i do not expect to have to treat a corporation that i trusted to sale me a safe car to drive for me and family that they would sale me a leathel weapon, and expect to take off work to get the mistakes they have made corrected on my time.i would like some type ofjustice.......for my and my families health and peace of mind, knowing that our saftey does matter, and that this negligence will have a consequence.

Fuel tank leak occurred at a platisc weld point on the top of the tank where a line went in.this tank is essentially a static component and a leak at a weld joint i consider is a manufacturing defect. I've taken a few autos beyond this amount of mileage and years without any fuel tanks failures of this type.this failure appeared during vacation when parked on a grade with thefront of the van pointed downhill.this caused a rather large pool of fuel to sit on the ground, enough for the local officials to send a fire truck to the scene.when i returned to our van it was determined by the fire offical that it not be driven.the van was towed to a chrysler dealer ship and the next day the leak was found.they could not supply a tank but since the leak was on top said it was safe to drive as long as i filled the tank no more than three quarters full.i proceeded home and had the local moncks coner dealership repair the van.i called the chrysler customer service 800 number to see if this was a covered recall or alert bulletin.it was not.they would not even consider paying for a portion of the repairs.like i said before a failure of this type is unacceptable and can be very unsafe do to the great possiblity of fire.please look into this for me. Thanks leif

My wife was driving our five year old plymouth voyager minivan in town and another driver warned her that gasoline was spraying from the vehicle.she stopped in a parking lot and looked under the minivan.gasoline was gushing from the gas tank at a very high rate.had this ignited, there would have been an explosion that would have enveloped the whole vehicle.my wife called me at work.because of the serious safety and explosion hazard, i told her not to restart the car and i had the car towed to our local chrysler dealer (naylor chrysler in ann arbor, michigan).their service department found that the fuel tank had collapsed and deformed separating the fuel pump and gasket from the fuel tank and creating a large gap.the vehicle is a well maintained vehicle with only normal highway usage and with no modifications, no accidents of any kind, and with all the original factory installed fuel system parts.the naylor chrysler service department replaced the defective fuel tank and associated parts.the cost was approximately $610.i called chrysler corp. Declined to inspect the parts.
Fuel tank:rollover valve located on top of plastic fuel tank is welded into fuel tank at manufacture.first tank failed at 6000 miles on vehicle, tank cracked around weld at rollover valve site.fuel leakage and vapor leakage ensued until tank replaced by dealer (quality chrysler jeep plymouth eagle, albuquerque, nm in aug 1996).the replacement tank developed a leak at the same site, weld of rollover valve to tank body, in december 1998.both tanks failed in similar manner, both failures cause raw fuel and vapor to leak continuously from tank.problem with multi-function switch (turn signals, high/low beam, wiper, washer switch, steering column mounted.when driving, the front and rear windshield wipers will automatically turn on by themselves.first multifunction switch replaced by quality chrysler plymouth jeep eagle, albuquerque nm, late 1996.dealer replaced multifunction switch.problem recurred in november 1998.dealer replaced multifunction switch a second time.fuel tank leak at rollover valve site, and multifunction switch both failed two times in same vehicle.it is apparent that the tank manufacturing process is deficient, and that there is a basic design flaw in the multifunction switch.

I was informed that i would have to replace tank at a cost of $697.02 then send in receipt for review.i feel that since i have seen many cases in your office of defects investigations files ( odi-835261, odi-814712, odi-510678, odi-801764, odi-853149, odi-986406, odi-809874, odi-870842, odi-523381, odi-547150, odi-974927, odi-974005, odi-811247, odi-980479 & nhtsa action # ea97002, pe95053, pe96051,) that daimlerchrysler should step up and replace this at no cost since this is a known product failure.this is a "potential fire hazard" as their recall notification states.the servicing dealer has also perform other safety recalls to this tank # 670 filler tube ground strap (nhtsa id 96v002000) & 845 fuel pump module seal once again all related to a fuel tank concern which does show that this vehicle was effected prior to their cut off date of 8/10/95.
Vehicle leaks fuel from fuel tank in the area of the filler tube. The problem occurs when tank is full, the vehicle has been driven for at least a short distance, and/or is parked on an incline.

Was fueling vehicle noticed heavy leakage after fueling from tank. The 1st time took to dealer & was tolditwas head gasket. Mechanic replaced the head gasket. The leaking fuel problem has reappeared.
Whenever the fuel tank is full and the van is parked on a slight incline, fuel leaks from the filler neck of the fuel tank. The dealer is aware of the problem. The problem has not been corrected.
Manufacturer's recall notice received concerning fuel tank straps. Dealer contacted, and informed consumer that no part was available. It would beapproximately 11/2 -2 weeks before parts may be received. Will generate a computer report, and start calling for appointment.
Vehicle needed fuel tank straps. Unable to repair vehicle properly because dealer informed consumer that the parts were on national back order. Seeking help from nhtsa in this matter.

The fuel sending unitneedle will jump from side to side and the light will come on/off intermittently.tsthe clockspring was inoperative, the fuel module needed to be repaired, the gas tank indicator light blinked and a tone sounded.the vehicle seemed fine for a while, but the problem had come back constantly.scc
Windshield wipers come on without application, and sometimes cut off during performance. Wipers are very sporaiically working.
Electrical problem causes with windshield wipers, dome lights, 'door ajar' light, door locks, and turn signals on dash.
In 1999, interior lights failed. 10/2001 horn failed, and airbag lights go on/off :apparenlty it is the modularthat control all these items and more such as milege, etc. Called dealer. Said chrysler has recall on airbag but not for my year.
Locks on the sliding door will lock, but will not unlock. Dealer has replaced locking mechanism 4 times over 4 years.

Mis-lead, deceived and possibly lied to in a used vehicle purchase involving a trade. The vehicle door locks do not work and i injured myself while trying to lock them. I consider the locks to be a safety issue as well as an insurance issue. I now just want to unwind the deal and desperately need help in doing this.i notified the dealer in less than 18 hours of purchase of the situation.i no longer trust them or the vehicle. I need to act quickly in order to get my trade back (which i trust).i have learned a lot but do not feel that i should continue to suffer if it is possible to unwind this.i was also mislead on the whereabouts of my trade in attempting to return their vehicle today - they said at first it had already been sold, then changed the story. That drive this morning was 1.5 hours from my house yet 1.5 from their location.i spent several hours in an unfamiliar city (in the rain) trying to resolve this before returning home.as they said they no longer had my vehicle i had no other choice.in order to switch vehicles i (or someone) will need to drive 3 hours one way. I work full time, attend college at night twice a week and am raising a daughter alone.even hearing all this in my phone call to them 1/2 way there this morning, the person i talked to insisted that i was being unreasonable. I understand it is a "buyer beware" world, but after having been deceived do i have recourse? anyway, i could go on and on...please help!!thank you.

On a family trip to north carolina, the transmission of our 1996 plymouth voyager lost third gear traveling in heavy traffic along i-95 south of richmond, va. Luckily my son was able to pull off the side of the road and travel a few miles without third gear to a chrysler repair shop. Since the shop was closed we had to rent a van to complete the trip and return on monday to find out what happened. The repairs were not covered under a warranty because chrysler gave me a 6 year/100,000 mile warranty. Although it has been 7 years since the purchase, the 57,300+ miles on the product does not reflect the 'minimum' mileage the transmission is good for. Needless to say we paid for the entire cost of the transmission repair as well as the cost of the rental cars needed to complete the trip and the cost of hotel rooms necessary to stay over night and to make a 350 mile return trip to pick up the van. The van was not driven extensively or driven harshly during the 7 years i have have owned it. There is absolutely no reason the transmission of this car should lose an entire gear this early its life espcially if the prodcut is sold as a reliable, family-safe vehicle. My question is what further actions can i take to seek reimbursment to defray the repair costs from the chrysler corporation? please advise. Thank you. Linda l. Klinksiek
While driving vehicletransmissionfailed without warning. Owner notes that dealer cannot find cause of problem. Owner very concerned for safety.

Was told by person towing that he tows several voyagers a week for premature transmission failure.transmission repair shop said that daimer- chrysler has a kit that they send out to repair these transmissions.this transmission problem should have been recalled and repaired by daimer-chrysler.
The transmission started slipping at 26,000 miles and at times, somewhat jerking into gear.the problem appeared to be worse when the car was cold and when you were shifting into higher gears, it wasn't as noticeable on downshifting.the problem was supposedly fixed but reappeared in less than 20,000 miles.the problem wasn't as noticeable the second time and we thought maybe it just needed an adjustment.we were informed that there was metal in the transmission fluid and the whole transmission had to be replaced. The van is a low mileage vehicle with easy town and highway driving miles and the vehicle has never towed anything.the vehicle appeared to have a factory installed defective unreliable transmission.

5 days after purchasing from dealership with 70000 miles, drove 400 miles since purchase and while driving on freeway vehicle started jerking and slowed to 10 mph. Revved engine and transmission making clunking noises. Dealership says they can't find anything wrong with van. Test drove 15 miles in city/freeway. Cannot duplicate problem. Only code they pulled was from a misfire. Couldn't explain the clunking noice from transmission. Forward has problems but reverse worked perfectly fine.
Our van only has 65,000 miles. When driving down the street we heard a noise and the van jerked and then made funny noises. We brought it into the shop the told us that we need a new transmission. It exploded inside. There should be a recall on all these vans with bad transmission. I hope some day soon something is done about this problem for the customer.this is not very good customer service providing customers defective vehicles.
This van had electrical problems from the beginning. The transmission was just the final straw for us. Then to see how many other people had put multiple transmissions in their chrysler vans. It's a crime.
Transmission malfunctioned.
Steel pin inside transmission loosened and rotated inside trans case and blew a hole 3 x 6 inches in the trans case losing all fluid and locking the trans up. Call to chrysler dealer confirmed that it was a problem, trans shop said they were averaging 1 a month and that ours was the worst they had seen to date and thatbodily injurywas probable had my wife been traveling at highway speeds chrysler wanted the trans back but said that age and mileage prevented any reinbursement which is exactly what they said when the wheel bearings failed , they were man made parts and man made parts wear out. Every dealer /trans shop i have talked tosays that the trans are good for 80000 miles inthe northeast and are prone to failurethey aren't in the south because of the absence of slippery conditions. I wasn't aware that a 25000 dollar vehicle should be considered disposable after 80000 miles unless you are willing to pay 1500dollars for a trans and 510 for wheel bearings especially since this is supposed to be the most popular vehicle in its class
Transmission and torque converter had tobe rebuilt.

I am one of the many many customers that are experiencing complete failures with the chrysler 41te ultradrive transmissions. In my case i hade a complete transmition replacement at 79,000 miles. At 123,000 miles while pulling into traffic the vehicle stopped moving and the engine started revving very high. I hade the vehicle towed to the dealer that had installed the first transmission. I was informed that the transmission was over its 36,000 warranty and needed to be replaced.i have declined the $2900 estimate and i am currently getting a second opinion on the repair. My concern is that while i was researching the problems of this transmission, i found that most owners of the 41te transmission will experience similar problems at an average of 80,000 miles. I further learned that chrysler knows that these transmissions will fail, as they have been replacing them sense the 1980''s when it was named the a604.we need to get these vehicles off the road until the problems can be resolved. In my case, i just experienced the inconvenience of finding myself stranded. If my timing had been different, my situation would have been a lot worse.

While driving down the freeway, the
Catastrophic failure of transmission at 54800 miles is shows a serious flaw in quality of the component. Failure occurred at city speeds, but wife had just pulled out on to heavly traveled road(hwy 6) with an appropriate distance between her and an oncoming tracter trailer. Failure of transmission caused the truck to catch up to her, an accident was avoided when she pulled to the side of the road. Our 2 year old and 3 month old children were in the vehicle with her. There are numerous reports of transmission failures on this model and related chrysler products on the internet. The failure of the front drive axle occurred on a crowded highway. Although the vehicle was still functioning, the noise required full attention from me to assertain the situation while manuevering at highway speeds. When the vehicle was purchased i noted a continuous pulling to the left. I took the vehicle in for various reasons and always had them look for the problem. The problem was varified but the cause was never determined. Since the new axle was put in the vehicle no longer pulls. Obviously a bad axle was the cause and it was doomed to failure. Inspection of the broken part showed a rusty nonuniform ball and socket while the other ball and socket in the assembly was still metalic and smooth. I would also note that the highly respected repair shop that did the work found that the replacement parts indicated in the maual did not fit the vehical, they checked two different model numbers and neither fit. The third attempt purchased from chrysler did fit.
We purchased the van with less than 50,000 miles on it, and i know that chrysler had a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty at one time.

I believe there is a defect in the design of the "gen 3" seatbelt systems.the release button protrudes too far, and can be inadvertently bumped, causing the belt to unhook.i did not find this a problem until we had a baby and began using an infant carrier.3 days in a row, our baby's seatbelt was mistakenly unhooked, first when i hooked my belt next to hers and didn't realize i'd bumped hers, then twice a dog sitting next to the infant seat stepped on the release button and unhooked the seatbelt.i believe that if the belts were designed to pass the "ball test" which chrysler refuses to use, these problems would not have happened.chrysler maintains that the belts pass all required tests, and that is true.my concern is that my baby has travelled unrestrained (without our knowledge) because of a manufacturing detail that should be corrected before injury occurs that can be linked to this defect.there is currently a lawsuit under appeal in which a man was killed, but chrysler maintains that the belt did not fail; rather, the man was not wearing the seatbelt.his family argues that evidence exists to the contrary.at minimum, i want chrysler to offer belt designs that would not unhook so easily - as an option that customers could purchase - none are available at this time for my vehicle, and there are no plans for production.best result would be recall. Lap/shoulder belt buckle is very sensentive with light touch buckle will unlatch.

Makes me think that there was a defect in materials. I called the dealer that we bought the van from and he was aware of the problem. We were going to drive the van on a 2000 mile vacation and i wanted to be sure that it was safe to drive. He told me that he would look at it but that it was probable safe to drive. I happened to take it to a dealer that was closer by my work. The dealer said that it would be okay to drive and maybe i would want to get it fixed at a later time. The following day i then took it to the dealer i bought it from just to be sure. That dealer said that he had never seen one so bad and that he said that it was not safe to drive. After seeing that dealer i stopped at two different body shops, they both said that it would not be safe to drive. I had the towers fixed at one of the shops at a cost of $500 +. I have investigated on line and am now aware that this is an on going problem with 1996 to 2000 voyager vans. I was very unhappy with the fact that one of the dealers thought that it was fine. I told him that we would be driving to yellowstone park. After having completed our trip i realize that if the tower had failed while i was driving in the mountains it could have caused an accident and the results could have been dangerous to my wife and three sons.
Dt:the consumer states that the strut towers rusted prematurely. Ithas been a problem for about 6 months. The consumer could hear the strut towers falling apart while trying to stop or hitting a bump in the road. The consumer can feel the problem when he is driving.the consumer has taken the vehicle to chrysler dealerships and they can not repair this until there is a recall without charge. The consumer is going to have to buy the strut towers and fix them himself because he can'tafford to have the dealershiprepair the problem. The consumer has called the manufacturer and theyresponded by telling the consumer that there was not a problem with the towers. This is part of the front structure of the vehicle on the sub frame.
Dealer service department stated this is normal wear cleveland area due to salt.rotor warpage, extreme vibration and sway bar bushings failure at such low mileage represents dangerous design flaw which is impractical to compensate for with constant replacing of poorly designed and manufactured parts.this is in a vehicle which is typically used to transport families and children.these defects cause actual loss of control problems on the road should be addressed urgently. ***dimsii ivoq posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****742642

This is no events leading up to this yet. I own a 1996 plymouth voyager se, the strut towers on both driver and passenger side under the hood are rusting out. The tower have not been replaced yet due to chrysler telling me the parts for the fix are back ordered, and they do not know when the parts will be available. If one of struts where to come through, god knows what might happen.this seems to be affecting 96-00 caravans and voyagers, personally seen it and on-line forums.i have had different 96 and 97 with the same problem, have since sold them.
In april 2003, the vehicle was taken to an auto body shop for maintenance on the air conditioning.the mechanic noticed the strut towers were rusting. The consumer then took the vehicle tochrysler, who stated the problem was not normal.the consumer called the manufacturer, who would not cover any of the cost.
Front strut tower corrosion perforating attachment surface on 1996 chrysler grand voyager. Attachment point deteriorates causing the front suspension to collapse making the vehicle unable to steer causing collision with another vehicle or object unavoidable.
Before foss attempted repair in june of 1998, there was front end wobble (scalloping) and steering wheel shake when you recovered from left or right turn, and at speeds between 20-30 mph. This problem was reported on numerous occasions since purchase of the car. Since the attempt to fix it is worse: steering wheel shakes, front end shakes or wobbles from 5-40, it is so bad that the leggs of the driver and front passenger shake during this time (front end alignment always ok), plus loud humming noise from back end. Had to replace stock bridgestone tires at 26000 miles, problems cont. With new tires.
Owner states that the vehicle pulls to the right and that dealer found that vehicle meets specs. Owner is very concerned about this problem.v ehicle pulls to the right at any speed.

When driving there is a cracking noise and when hitting bumps there is more noise intermittently. Dealer contacted numerous times, attempted to repair the vehicle, replaced the sway bar cushion and bushing, and problem still exists. Brakes were making noise from the rear due to shoe and lining, brake assembly failure.rear right or left brake drum worn out.there isa driping noise from engine due totensioner/pulley failure.

Engine light stays on, airbag light stays on, horn and cruise control inoperable. Suspect defective clockspring est cost to repair $250-400.
Cruise control intermittently jumps back into place while driving the vehicle without warning which caused an accident.
Airbags lights stays on/ speed control and horn do not work. Clockspring failure.

Horn wont blow, cruise control won't work, andairbag light is constantly on.
The problem is that the air bag warning light stays on, horn cannot work, and lose the cruise control. This indicates the malfunction in air bag system, horn circuit, and the speed control.
While backing out of a parking space with a foot on the brakes vehicle started toaccelerate in reverse. Was brought to a halt afterfront passenger'side struck a tree. Consumer's four year old child's head hitrear door window, cracking the window in the process.consumer suffered back injuries.seat belts were worn but none of the air bags in vehicle deployed.

Windshield wipers come on without application, and sometimes cut off during performance. Wipers are very sporaiically working. Dealer has seen vehicle3 times, and problem still exists.brake shoes and wheel cylinder makes noise. Power window switch failed.gas tank leaks due to defective sending unit.
Windshield wipers would go on/off by themselves. This caused a hazardous problem for driver. Vehicle been to dealership for windshield wiper repairs.since repairs done on wipers, the signal switch failed to work properly.
We bought a plymouth voyager and we have had steady problems with the windshield wipers. Either they stop in the middle of a path and just quit working. Two years ago they stopped working at all, luckily we lived in wyoming with little rain. Last year we moved to florida and they worked for a while and now stopped again. We have replaced the switch ( as the dealership suggested) but it did not help, ( 89.00) then we were told it was a motor so we replaced that at 110.00,no difference, the relays are good an now they think it is the computer. 600.00. Windshield wipersseem trivial, but when you live in florida and cannot safely evacuate for hurricanes ( and we have seen 4 in the last month) because driving the family vehicle in the rain endangers lives either way. One of my big complaints is just that a 600.00 computer is used to control wipers that should be able to be used in emergency, there is no warning or bypass they just will not work. Minivans carry whole families, and can carry them all to their deathsif this happens in a downpour and the wipers stop without warning. It is an outrage that companies like dodge are allowed to produce vehicles like this and not offer support in fixing them or even know what it is for sure. And since we just spent so much paying this van off we have very little left to put into any more repairs and nothing left for the purchase of another vehicle.is there anyone i can write to put pressure on dodge to quit producing these types of vehicles and to maybe come up with a better answer to our wiper problems so that they are not computer controlled and our lives are hanging in the balance of a glitch in something so simple as wipers but something so basic and so needed?i will keep looking for some justice somewhere and see if there is anyone out there who can help make this right before someone dies as a result. Thank you ! tammy kane
Fourth transmission being put in van now. Transmission doesn't go into gear due to transmission fluid leak. Last time it was in they had to put two transmissions in before they could get it to run properly. Windshield wiper will go on all by itself.
Windshield wipers worked intermittently. The consumer also experienced electrical defects. The lights and radio were sometimes effected. Provide further details.consumer feels this is very dangerous since the wipers stopworking in the middle of a rain storm which leads to poor visibility.
Windshield wipers are not reliable while driving.windshield wipers automatically come on when it is not raining. When it does rainwindshield wipers do not come on. Dealer is aware ofproblem. Please provide any further information.
When turning steering wheel to turn a corner, windshield wiper will turn on, and cannot turn off, even with the switch in off position.dealer cannot determine cause.
Intermittently while driving windshield wipers come on without application.van was taken to the dealership for this problem.dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. Please provide any further information.
Electrical problem causes with windshield wipers, dome lights, 'door ajar' light, door locks, and turn signals on dash.
Windshield wipers turn on intermittentlyby themselves, do not turn off properly & often stop in middle of windshield. Engine stalls repeatedly, especially during hot weather or after highway driving.tension pulley has failed/is failing resulting in belt squaling and premature failure, belt has been replaced twice at owners expense.
Intermittent wipers come on at anytime while driving, has been repaired twice and failed a third time, i called chrysler and asked if this was an unusual situation and was told no and that any repairs that i have done now fall outside of the warranty period and i am liable for any additional repair costs.i asked if there are any tsb's and was given the runaround, was told "not handled by my dept"
The consumer has experienced the following problems.transmission failure, fuel rail line and tank. Clockspring, head gasket, and the wipers will come on when not in use.scc ph
Transmission stuck in first gear, also abs failure, causing brakes to shake, engine would lose powerwhile accelerating onto freeway; front windshield wipers would come on on their 0wn.
The wipers sometimes work, sometimes they don't.sometimes they work all on their own.this is a safety defect.chrysler has tried 5 times to repair the problem with no success.the lack of wiping ability could contribute to an accident
Front windshield wipers come on when ever they feel like it. It started out once in a great while like when you use your turn signal or if you just turn a corner. The longer it goes the worse it gets. Now they come on just driving down the road, which can be very annoying especially in heavy traffic. I have also had them come on just setting waiting for my kids to get out of school. They use to go off by them self, but now the only way to get them to stop is to turn the wipers on then off. This is our third time. We had it fixed two other times under warranty. Our daughter is just learning to drive and this is just one more thing she has to deal with and some times she has all she can do to pay attention without this. I hope you can help us.
The windshield wipers have suffered from intermittent operation since the car was new.recently, the windshield wipers failed to operate in the rain.the car has been to two different dealers (we moved to a different state) for a total of four visits.problem hasn't been rectified..
Power steeringwent out when driving through mudd puddles at 40 mph or in car wash. Taken to dealer, belt had come off.repaired it, but had no answer why it happened. This has happened lots of times. Also, windshield wipers came on while driving, switch has been replaced 5 times. The main belt failed.the water pump failed.the transmission was leaking.the a/c compressor went out burning on freeway.
When turning on left signalfront windshield wipers will come on.sometimes rear windshieldwipers will also come on. Took vehicle to dealer about 5 times. Each time they saidthat they had fixed it, but problemreoccurred. This is unsafe because while driving onfreeway and windshield wipers coming on,it willdistract the driver. *ml
Windshield wiper turns on by itself while driving.this is a significant distraction while driving.i am concerned of the potential for accident if we are startled by the wiper starting while in rush hour or other 'tricky' driving situations.
When driving in wet weather and braking activates the abs, the windshield wipers stop working.
Windshield wipers do not funcion effectively; run at will; continue even when car is turned off; also when in use do not shut off correctly.they will stop anywhere on the windshield, but not in the correct down position.have had this looked at 3 times now.they have replaced the same switch twice to the tune of $200.00.the pary # is 5012382aa.still i have the problem.the hard part is that is doesn't do it consistently.i am frustrated and a bit angry, and between the brakes and this hate this van!i feel put off by my dealership, anbd just want information on what i can tell them that will help locate the probelm.please help.

Even though van has been serviced under recall # 99v216000 twice on 2/21/00 & 2/25/00,there is still a strong odor of gas fumes insidevan when fuel is put into tank.odor lasts for about 1/2 hour. Dealer stated that during fueling, gas fumes get under the vehicle which is normal.the windshield wipers come on when turn signals are turned on and sometimes while driving over bumps, the windshield is scratched because of this, this problem has been taken to the dealer 4 times.
Efective components include: spark plug wires/ sliding door motor/circuit board//door handles/battery/ignition switch/multifunction switch, door lock motor/ windshield motor/ latch door lift gate, andrear shock absorber and rear struts. Now,i am being charged $385 for a body control module that must be ordered---more inconvenience for me as well as recharging me for a problem that was supposed to be corrected.
Windshield wipers come on intermittantly.
Windshield wiper switch failed, causing wipers to suddenly come on while driving.
Windshield wipers would come on by themselves, dealer replaced the wipers cowl molding and replaced the multi-switch.
Noise emanating from the rear drums during stopping at times, inspected the brake system.pads/shoes were worn out prematurely specifically the rear drum pad which were worn to the rivets at 35k.because the rear brakes worn fast, the front rotors took over the majority of braking and subsequently warped the rotors.since replacement, the noise has not occured again.also windshield wipers began operating by themselves when driving.they would come on and wipe the windshield 1-3 times without ever touching the control switch.control switch replaced and problem went away, started again sporadically.
Left rear wheel area makes scraping noise.
