Since june 2003 (after my warranty ran out) , my 2000 plymouth neon needs to be jumped every 2 weeks.i was told it was the battery, so i went to auto zone where they used their tester and i purchased a battery from them.but since then, i still need a jump every 2 weeks and sometimes sooner (when it's cold or rainy).i took it to the dealership and they looked at it, telling me they couldn't find anything wrong with it, but charged me about $150 for the labor.i had the car jumped on 11/23, drove it around, left it sit idling for about an hour, turned it off and it started right up.but on 11/25, i needed a jump again b/c it was 44 degrees outside.could this possibly be a problem with a component either in the alternator or something else?i am really frustrated at this point being told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle by the dealership that i am seriously thinking about trading it in b/c i am getting nowhere.

I started my car getting ready to leave my house at night, turned on the headlights after starting.then i smelled a plastic burning smell and shortly smoke began to come out of the area around the instrument cluster and steering wheel.i turned off the lights and the car but smoke still came out.i popped the hood and disconnected the battery, then the smoke eventually stopped.later i found the multifunction switch connector melted and burned up, this could have caused a serious fire if i had not caught it in time.

Start to smell electrical burning. Then saw smoke come from steering column. Steering column hot top left. Removed covers. Wiring harness hot. Appears to be the harness for the head lights. Turn off head lights and column cooled down.

I bought the car new which would not start for test drive was told someone left dome light on. After jump, it worked fine for a few thousand miles. Then went to car and would not start one day. Horn is located above the front left tire well.the horn fails when it gets wet.living and working in the low country, it is hard not to drive through flooded areas since it floods everytime it rains.when i go through a flooded area (flooded being not more than 1 foot) water gets into the horn and it stops working.i cannot always avoid these areas, especially if the entire road is under water.i should not have to replace the horn after every storm we get.the car is still under warranty, so i havent had to pay anything yet.i feel that they should move the horn to a safer, dryer area in the car.

Connection between radiator and transmission failed on a busy icy road in rush hour traffic as the car lost power my wife nursed it to a gas stationthe damage was already donewe replaced the radiator only to fine that the transmission needs to be rebuilt.

My 2000 plymouth neon lx lost power at an intersection, i had it towed, found out that a hose (that i believe either connected the radiator and the transmission or was for the radiator only, not sure, wasn't explained very well to me)had fallen out for no apparent reason, causing all of the fluid to leak out. When taken to a dealership, i had to have the radiator replaced, luckily my transmission was ok. About one minute before it happened, i noticed the car was shifting hard, and seemed like it was trying to shift while i was stopped at the intersection. By the time the light turned, most of whatever fluid was already gone.

We have a 2000 plymouth neon and have taken the vehicle in numerous times to dealers in different states for stalling.happens most often when coming to a stop, it is intermittent and they can never find anything wrong with the vehicle.i am afraid that one day it is going to get one of us killed.it has stalled in the middle of intersections, on on-ramps, and other places as well.

Head gasket failure at 40,000 miles. Vehicle only driven 6000 miles by first owner (my grandfather) and is now at 40,000 with my mother as current owner, with a blown head gasket. All maintenence performed as mandated by daimlerchrysler by both owners. Vehicles now has oil leak, resulting from this defect. Repair cost estimated at approximately $1000 by ase-certified kumler automotive in lancaster, oh. Mechanic stated that original dodge/plymouth neon head gaskets (genuine daimlerchrysler parts) are made poorly and often fail on 1995-2000 neons. As the first generation of neon vehicles used the same part, this defect has existed since 1995. As a result of such, daimlerchrysler has worded the warranty statement in such a manner to avoid correcting being required to correct this defect under warranty.

Driving vehicle away from stop sign, engine mount gave and engine fell onto the front axle, crushing it. Previously inspected due to loud sounds when backing up and putting car into gear. Dealer gave car back saying it was "fine". If this had happened going 65 mph i'd be dead right now. Please bring insist on service if you hear any sounds when you back up or start off in gear...this is a serious matter. Dealer refuses to take responsibility for defect.

Consumer states vehicle stalls.

I purchased a new plymouth neon 2000 on 12/11/99. I immediately began to have problems with the car. It was discovered at my first gas-up that i was a quart low on oil. I had also experience a problem with the vehicle losing power while i was sitting in traffic at a stop light. I called the dealership (windward dodge-hawaii)right away. They told me to bring in the car for diagnosis. I was told that they could not find any problems with the car and could not find any leakage. I continued to experience problems with the car. Loss of oil, loss of power and stalling. I went to the local dealer 2 more times before calling the corporation to make a case. I continued to have problems after calling the corp and when i called the dealership a 4th time, they told me that my name had been raised in a meeting and that they would take care of me. When i got there, i surprised to be asked to purchase this new car at an additional $4000. I was told that my model was discontinued and the only car they had was an upgraded model which cost more. I raised holy hell in the place. The service department was ordered to fully inspect my car and pay for a rental for me. Still they claimed that there was no problem. Now, my car began to leak oil in feb 2002. This time, the leak was visable. I took the car to 2 different repairshops, who told me that the problem was the cam shaft gasket. Then we took it to firestone on a military base. They said that it was the same problem and gave us a much better rate so we scheduled the repair. But, on the day that we took the car in to them, we got a call back stating that the problem was not what they had originally thought. It was the head gasket which requires extensive engine work. They told us that 15 cars had come in to them in 1 week with this same problem. They were all plymouth neons. (due to the limitations in this field, i am unable to fill in the details. Please contact me regarding what we have done since).

When viewed from the side you cannot see whether the turn signals have been activated or not.on the 1999 neon the side marker lights flashed in sequence with the front turn signals.i asked the question at the dealer on whether that was how they were supposed to work and the answer was yes.i'm not sure whether that's a safety defect or just poor attention to detail but i thought it should be brought up.

I strongly believe that there is a problem with my multi-function control lever. My turn signals and hazards are not working and this is very dangerous. I contacted william chrysler service dept and spoke with ken the end of december 2000 and he states there would be a charge for this. I don't think there should be a charge due to the fact that this problem is within. It is not the fuses or bulbs because they have been replaced. I want to get this fixed right away because this is extremely dangerous and can cause someone to run into the back of my vehicle.

I was driving to work and this car pulled out in front of me and i pushed the brakes and i slid into the car causing me to spin around and end up on the wrong side of the road.i have replaced the brakes every year and they still squeak really bad. The transmission has leaked for the entire time i have had the car.i have to replace the tires every 3 months and a/c went out 3 years after i bought the car. I haven't fixed the a./c compressor the cassette tape player stopped working after i bought the car and it's still broke. The bulbs in the lens of the light are very dim can't drive at night.i had to replace to rotors this year i still have them.

I have had several problems with my 2000 plymouth neon.not only have i had to replace my brakes numerous times but i have had problems with it since the day i bought it new.from engine lights going off to pcv problems to electrical problems.my newest problem is the car stalling randomly.i will just be driving down the road and then it will begin to act up.i press on the gas pedal and it slows down.i let off of the gas pedal and it speeds up.soon after that it stalls, or dies.i would then put some fuel cleaner in the gas tank and it seems to help for a few miles.then it starts to act up all over again.usually i can get it restarted by sitting for a few minutes but i can't seem to find the problem.some days it will be just fine and other days i can't get it to start.i have had it towed to find out when it gets to my house it starts again.one day it died in the middle of the highway at night with no where to pull over.i was almost hit several times.right now we are still trying to find the problem.

2000 plymouth neon, this vehicle was travel at 65 mph on i-78 in pa. The gas/ fuel that is attach this vehicle by two bolts snap off cause the gas/fuel get stuck under the dash. This cause the engine to race to a high speed. The driver have to move safelythis car shoulder place the car in neutral. And heavy apply the brake. The car have to be tow.

Water is coming in the trunk somehow seeping inside the spare tire area and leaking into the back of the car soaking the back floor boards. /strong gas smell in my car when operating - so bad that the windows have to cracked for fresh air - cannot find any leaks- my grandchildren are being transported in my car daily- was told that this does not sound like a defect and i will be responsible for any cost - problem since around november 2004/brakes squeal everytime i brake -had new rotors and brake pads installed december 2003 -noise is so loud sometimes it is embarrassing.

I have taken this car to charlie thomas service dept. Multiple times for repairs on this throttle body that sticks open and accelerates my vehicle to where i have to slam on the brakes. There is a recall for the injection system that causes the throttle body to become "carboned up" but the service dept will not honor this recall. I am also having problems with the brakes and the service dept says this is normal.they are making a very loud squealing noise when i first start driving, yet they charged me to repair the problem and then tell me that it is normal.who do i contact to see about being reimbursed for those charges.i would like to also report that my car has a water leak that took them almost 2 1/2 weeks to locate and it has ruined my carpet padding.who do i report this to.the leak was coming from the trunk. I would like to report this service dept to the correct organization about their service.i am quite sure it is not normal to have my accelerator stick while i am driving yet that is what this service dept is saying is normal when the car is cold.well it happens when the car has warmed up and been driven for awhile.thank you for reading my complaint and please contact me via email, phone, or mail.

Filled gas tank to full, as exiting the gas station hit small bump car dead stopped. Was stopped immediately by the gas tankslamming to the ground lifting the car.the cars engine immediately shut down. Got out and looked at the car. Gas was leaking on ground (small amount) from the return line. Gas tank fill tube ripped out of car tank wedged in between car and ground stopping vehicle immediately. Had i been going at a faster rate of speed i could have been killed. The 4 corner strapsare no way to hold a gas tank in place.i submit that improper materials and design caused the incident. You may want to look into this before loss of life occurs. Mounting straps should benon corrosive or made of superior material and not thin metal. I also submit that i have never heard of an incident like this before, not on a 15 year old vehicle.

My 2000 plymouth neon felt like it lost power or dropped out of gear.i was able to drive it slowly for about 2 miles to leave it at a safe place.the hose fitting from the transmission to the radiator had completely blown off & the aluminum threads stripped- yet the hose/gasket attached remained in place - the hose had no leaks & the gasket was rusty. The shop installed a new radiator with the fitting attached.once they topped up the fluids, it still was not drivable - and further upon inspection of the transmission - (the filings in the pan) indicated replacing the transmission ($2200).the remain tran from mopar was faulty and they had to put a new valve body on it to keep it from jumping gears too quickly.really odd thing is - another 2000 neon came in while my car was still in the shop, with the exact same blown fitting.we do not know what caused pressure to build to the extent the fitting would blow. I still have the fitting.

When it was time to do the brake inspection on the front brakes, so i had my dad a mechanic inspect them. The squeaker on the drivers side just started to make noise about 1 week prior to the inspection. On the day before i took it to my dad to be inspected the brake petal sank to the floor and the brakes locked up causing us to skid & slide to the right almost hitting anothe vehicle, while we had my children in the vehicle. When my dad took the left tire off to inspect the brakes he discovered that the caliper was stuck and it caused the rotor to becompletley damaged (even the cooling fins on the back of the rotor were almost gone.the right side front brake was only about 70% worn the squeaker wasn't even squeaking yet. I have researche the history of calipers and i have found out that the are supposed to last forever unless it is defective. Peoples chryslerin folsom,ca has inspected car and said caliper is shot. I took my vehicle to midas for brake work and was told there is something wrong with the power sterring and should contact my dealer. When i called the dealer, they squeezed me right in. I bought the car in 1999, it is a 2000 plymouth neon. Since i have owned the vehicle, i have gotten no recall notices. I found out about the seatbelt recall through the newspaper.the dealership called me today stating that the power sterring rack needs to be replaced and that it is going to cost me $820.00. I asked if this was covered underwarranty and was told no. I have never heard of power steering needing to be replaced after 5 years. My 1995 neon's never needed replacing. I have tried to research if this is a recall issue and cannot find any information.

I brought my car to midas for brake work and they told me there is something wrong with the power steering. They advised me to call the dealership. I called, and they fit me in right away. I received a call from them today stating the power steering rack needs to be replaced. They advised me it is not under warranty. They canot find any documentation that i purchased the 7 year, 70,000 mile warranty. The price to replace this is $820.00.while i was trying to find my paperwork, i came across a work order from 11/15/00. I complained then of the same problem and they told me it was a power steering cap. This was under warranty and the cost i would have had to pay was $6.00. How convenient for them. Well, here it is 2004 and the problem arose again. Only, it is $820.00 that i have to pay vs. Their $6.00 that they paid. This seems like it should have been a recall problem. But then again, i have never received a recall notice for anything. I learned of the seatbelt recall from the newspaper.

There was no battery light on or any warning. It has happened 2 more times since then.rear brakes wear out within a few months from replacement.dealer fixed once and i have incured the expense several times since. I can not even afford to do it anymore leaving me to take a risk of driving with bad rear brakes. The most recent of events to occur this morning my drive belts broke.after taking vehicle to dealer to replace them i was told the belts broke because the tensioner pulley had tilted.i was also informed from service tech that they see lots of them come in like that and that they were surprised that there had not been a recall or at least a tsb. The car is paid for and was bought because i needed more reliable transportation than my previous vehicle.sad part is my previous vehicle is still running with minimal repairs made to it since i had it.also i have called daimler chrystler and emailed them on numerous occasions and have been told there is nothing they can do about it.
