Started applying abs brakes at 30mph, brake pedal went to floor. Vehicle failed to stop & rearended another vehicle. Neither air bag deployed. Vehicle being repaired at mechanic's.

While driving between 30-35 mph owner struck another vehicle direct frontal impact,and there was no deployment of driver's or passenger's side airbags. Problem has not been indentified by chrysler investigator.

When taking vehicle out of park into drive, the vehicle's throttle stuck, causing the vehicle to increase speed, resulting in an accident. Brakes failed to stop vehicle. No deployment of driver/passenger's air bags upon impact.

Front airbag failed to function in accident with severe damage to bumper and hood.

While stopping at a red lightvehicle was rearended and forced into another vehicle . Upon impact, driver's side air bag did not deploy. There was over $3000 dollars worth of damage tofront end.

While driving, the driver's side airbag experienced false deployment, causing injury to consumer and causing consumer to lose control of the vehicle and crash, the passenger also sustained injuries from the accident, the passenger's airbag deployed during the crash.

While traveling on the highway at a speed of 40mph, another vehicle pulled out in front of the vehicle, and the vehicle broadsided the vehicle that pulled out in front and the driver's side airbag didn't deploy.

Vehicle was being driven across uneven pavement and a small pothole,and the drivers airbag deployed which caused vehicle to run into the curve, and the passenger's air bag deployed.was travelling about 25mph due to construction on the road.chrysler contacted and warranty is expired.

On every plymouth neon in the color of blue, the paint is chipping from the hood to the trunk.also, when it rains, the inside of the car on the floors and in the trunk gets wet and in order to get the water out, it has to be vacuumed.i believe that something should be done about this.after having to invest a lot of money in something that you expect to have for many years, this should not be happening unless it is caused by you.

After this vehicle hit another vehicle in the rear, a 5 month old child's safety seat belt let go and she came out of her seat and struck her head and stomach on the handle of the car seat.

1.every time it rains outside i have a lake on the inside of the car, mainly on the passenger side in the back and in the trunk which is molding the carpet and items kept inside.2.the back up light on the driver side doesn't work properly, due to the moisture.3.the turn signal on the passenger side blinks really fast, and stays on on the inside of the car.4.the turn signal on the driver side has to be manually turned off after turning left.5.the steering wheel has locked on a steep turn resulting me going off road, luckily not hitting anyone.6. Entire instrument cluster ceases to function. Speedometer goes to zero, tachometer goes to zero, gas gauge stops, temp gauge goes to cold.this happens usually while on the highway at 70 mph., or whatever the legal limit for a given area is.a bit disconcerting at times.after a time period, things start to work again, and then they quit again.we have owned this car since new.

First the battery kept draining due to a short within in it and was replaced.second, the transmission failed and had to be completely overhauled.by the time anyone figured out what was wrong it would not go in reverse.third, the head gasket is causing an oil leak and needs to be replaced.other things that just stopped working include the relase for the trunk and back left speaker.this car is a nightmare and something should be done to compensate anyone who still has one.

Going down road at close to stopping, about 10mph and all the needles started going crazy in colunm of dashboard with lights of seatbelt and battery going off and on. Took car to get diagnostic test done on it and found out that the altenator is producing too much output for car and is trying to burn up wiring harness unit in car. Said this can be very dangerous and catch the car on fire. Have extended warrenty but the dealership seems to find ways around the warrenty of the things i find wrong of saying it iss something else doing it. Service lights did not come on to indecate problem with anything in engine nor did the oil light come on to tell me that my car had leaked out all oil. Have a oil leak again. Fixed once already. 350.00 is too much to pay out for a problem occuring every two years. This also dangerous according to mechanic. Why is there no recall if altanenator is not correct size for car?

I have always maintained my car regularly, but i've had so many problems with it.first of all, i've always had brake trouble, second: my turn signals will sometimes come on when i hit the brakes (or sometimes not at all), my defrost keeps breaking (only vent and bi-level will work); my horn died for no reason a few months ago, and today my car won't start (i drove to church, and it worked fine, but when i later tried starting my car, it wouldn't start.it appeared as though the battery was dead <even though i din't leave anything on. So a friend jump-started my car.it started, but on my way home, the odometer, gas gauge, and hot-cold gauges were fluctuating up and down, and the radio kept resetting channels. The seatbeltand battery lights kept flickering on and off, as did the chimes.when i got home, i charged my car, although i felt certain it was not only the battery causing the problem.now, my car won't start at all, and i hear a clicking noise (if anything) when i turn the ignition.the gauges on my dash move up and down (even the spedometer) and yet my car remains still.the dome and dashboard lights flicker on and off, and the radio changes stations, yet receives nothing.it seems like some major electrical or computer problem. My car worked fine (with the exception of the broken horn and usual problems, until today.also, at my 36000 check-up, the " engine" check light came on, but the mechanics said it was no cause for concern.i have had so many problems with this car. Please tell me if other persons are having similar difficulties. Could my dead horn have been caused by whatever is malfunctioning now? also, i hear wierd clunking noises many times while driving, espec when driving over bumps or around curves. My car makes squeaking noises like a bird chirping also. I have taken good care of my car, which is whynow i am convinced that these must be manufacturing problems. An electrical short in the wiring harness caused the vehicle to stall.the consumer received nhtsa recall 96v026000 concerning the wiring harness failure due to an electrical short, but chryslertold the consumer that this recall did not exist.the dealer could not locate the problem but stated that the wiring in the horn needed to be replaced.the electrical short and the engine misfiring caused the vehicle to lose power and sputter after a short drive. *sc

Several visits to two dealers in ft.wayne and indianapolis, in and 6 months later it was finally resolved as being a pinched wire.had to involve owner of the dealership before it was fixed properly. Failure#2:1/97-3/97 the rear defrost switch failed on occassion for first three months of ownership.works continuously now.failure#3:8/97-1998left turn signal would light up when the brake was applied, only occassionally and while it was slowing down, not at a stop. Failure#4:6/99-current power locks failed. Failure#5: 7/99-8/99 power steering failed. Power switch replaced. Failure#6: 3/00-7/00 a/c failed.1/2 lb coolant leaked out and was replaced.

The car was run for 45mins at 10mph following a tractor.the last 2 miles were at 55mph.a few minutes after the vehicle was home and the engine turned off, the engine compartment caught on fire.all wiring and plastic components are a complete loss, hood is damaged, and all light units are ruined.

I bought this used car from a dealer.my fiancee started to notice that theengine temperature gauge was rising fast. She started to hear bubbling gurgling sounds from the cooling system. The car started to lose power. I phoned chrysler to see if they could cover the expense since it was out of warranty and had prior owners. I ended up getting the car repaired and chrysler only offered a 15% discount. They should have paid the whole bill of $1853.03. There is such a thing as silent warranty that i have read about on the internet. I want them to reimburse me and i am going to file several written complaints.

My neon has been intermittently stalling out when slowing for stops, starting the vehicle and intermittently when i am at idle.this becomes an issue when i am pulling off the highway and the car stalls, thus making it difficult for vehicles behind me to stop in time.no crashes have incurred yet, but they are possible.i have taken it in 3 times now to lebanon chrysler-plymouth for repair.11-19: fuel pump and various cables replaced.problem returned.!2-31: idle memory needed to be reset.1-2-02: throttle body and thermostat need replaced...all of these items were completed on different dates for the same problem.my car is currently at lebanon chrysler and hopefully the problem will be fixed completely this time, but it has been a safety issue while i drive.i leave sufficient distance between myself and other vehicles, but i cannot predict how others will drive.thank you for your time and please let me know what you can do to help.lisa brady.

For the second time now my car has a leaky gasket (which has contributed to having to replace the radiator this time as well). I have heard endless stories of this happening to neons-when will a recall be enforced? this is obviously not an isolated problem when it is common knowledge among mechanics and owners of neons that this could happen.

Head gasket replaced once already,and needs replaced again due to a leak,checking on any tsb bulltins avaiable for this on going problem or parts redesigns made.

In april 2000, head gasket blew,was informed by mechanic to call chrysler corp.called them and they sent me to chrysler dealer. Had to pay 195 for diagnostic test.they repaired the head gasket.aslo informed them of water entering the rear of the car thru side windows.they claimed they water tested it and found no water leak.now 26 months later,noticed another leak,took to mechanicwas told head gasket needs replacing.contact chrysler, they said it was not under warranty.when is someone going to look into this.my complaint makes 108 on head gaskets only.that is 108 people who have spent monies on something that should be recalled.if this is not resolved chrylser/plymouth will have lost another customer.does someone have to die in order for something to be done?

I bought my neon used, supposedly by a dealers wife. I really did not have too many problems until last march, when my engine was leaking oil. My head gasket was replaced and still under my factory warranty. Well last month, my engine was profusely leaking oil when my car was idling. I brought it back to the dealership and they diagnosed the problem as the cam seal as leaking. I believe this was one of the things they replaced last year with the head gasket problem. I would like to note that i put about 6,500 miles per year on my car, none of which are highway and i maintenance my car regularly.

I have had repeated incidents of gasket failure (both) with this 1996 neon. I'm afraid to drive my car anywhere and rely on it for work. At this point i'm sick of hearing other neon owners complain about the gaskets cracking and leaking oil, smoke coming from the back of the vehicle, etc. Chyrsler/daimler is endangering our lives. I had my spark plugs changed during a tune up and the mechanic couldn't believe how soaked they were in oil. My car could have caught fire. He said the entire undercarriag of my car is soaked in oil. Chrysler tried to charge me for previous repairs and said they had no inherent problems with the cars. But one of their employees, and former employees, have told me it's a design defect and even replacement gaskets will crack. It's a problem with the power vs. The manifold of the car (this is what i was told). Isn't it false advertisement to sell a car with a known defect to the unwitting public? do we need another firestone where people die from their car having defects? i plan to contact the better business bureau, my congressman, the environmental protection agency (major amounts of oil and smoke leave the car), and maryland state government. I want something to be done about this problem. The cars should be recalled or we should be offered deals on different model cars so we can get rid of this hazard. These repairs take more than one day because the engine has to come out. My mother is sick and lives in new york, i shouldn't have to drive a bus to go visit her because i'm afraid to drive due to oil/smoke problems. Consumers of the neons have been duped and bilked of their money. Please investigate the neon!

Steering knuckles/head gasket/abs brakesfailed.

Manufacturer knows the old style head gasket has failed to seal and they came up with new style gasket.but, owners who do not have a warranty have to pay for the repair.is this right?

Head gasket leaks oil onto hot exhaust manifold, oil leak caused small explosion that blew off spark plugs.

Soon after buying 1996 neon used engine started leaking oil.at firstleaking was not too bad. After awhile it started to get worse. At thismoment vehicle is leaking up to two quarts a week. Contacted dealer, and could not resolve problem.

Reported problem to dealer, they said cars was out of warranty, althought the car was only three hundred miles over the warranty, and now at 90,000 the car needs a head gasket again,.the dealer sell a head gasket replacement kit, so their must be a problem with these neons. Head gasket failed resulting in leakage.

10/11/00-is the second failure of both the headgasket and cam sensor on my neon.

For the second time now my car has a leaky gasket (which has contributed to having to replace the radiator this time as well). I have heard endless stories of this happening to neons-when will a recall be enforced? this is obviously not an isolated problem when it is common knowledge among mechanics and owners of neons that this could happen.

Transmission failure.

There is definitly a problem with 1995-1997 neons blowing head gaskets due to poor design.chyrsler is aware of the situation and doing nothing to recifiy.eventually someone will get seriously hurt due to this flaw in design.i have researched this problem endless and have first hadn experience as i own a 1996 plymouth neon and had to have the head gasket replaced.this needs to be looked into....and soon.....

Head gasket blown and car requires new rotors at 38,500 miles.obvious defect.i called chryslers 800 number for recall and warranties and was advised that "chrysler is aware of the problem and they are dealing with it on a case by case basis".in order for chrysler to even consider paying for the repair, i have to see an authorized dealer and they will determine what if anything chrysler will pay for.i have to wait 4 days before i can even get into see an authorized dealer and then it will take another 2-3 days to repair.the car is undrivable and i have no other transportation.chrysler refuses to pay for a rental car.i call this very poor customer service and i would like chrysler to be held responsible for the repairs to my car.

O rings on air conditioning unit replaced on 6-23-00, evaportation coil replaced on 9-12-00.plug, senor-oxygen, exhaust, wiring pkg-postive cable replaced 10-2-00, temperature probe replaced 7-19-01. Air conditioning failed again in august, 2001.i have also replaced the inner outer left tie rods 4-9-98, head gasket 1-28-00, oil sending unit 3-3-00, rear main seal and bedplate 5-9-00.

Head gasket leak...was replaced twice...finally a different style that was not faulty was released...fibrous gasket leaked, whereas the multilayer metal gasket didn't.

The head gasket blew which caused oil to leak in the cooling system and overheat.

On the engine failures, both the head gasket and the valve cover gasket failed at separate times, resulting in all of the oil running onto the ground. The car was still under warranty, and the dealer repaired both problems. Regarding the brake light problem, the left turn signal often comes on when i apply the brakes. It will go off if i touch the turn signal handle on the steering column. This has gone on ever since i purchased the vehicle. Regarding the wheel problem, the car pulls to the right at highway speeds and the steering/handling has felt loose and wobbly despite having the rack and pinion replaced, a full alignment and having the tires balanced. Also, brake rotors are warped and currently being replaced. And, water leaked into the trunk and soaked items in both the trunk and on the rear floor. This, i think, has been fixed by resealing the rear lights.

I have spoke with numerouse mechanics and neon owners and they have all had the same problem. They comment as saying neons are netorious for faulty head gaskets. I had problems with the one the factory installed. So i went to the dealer and purchased another head gasket and replaced that one and now 2years later it need to be replaced agian. This if rediculous. I have heard that the head gasget that was issued was faulty and they reissued a high preformance one. To my knowledge there has not been a recall. This is a very expensive thing to fix. I would understand if it was basic maitnance. That does not seem to be the case in any of the ones i have came across. If you took the time to speak to neon service departments and owners you would see that it is an overwhelming issue that needs to be addresed and the owners of these vehicals should be compensated. I have a 1996 neon which i purchased used in august of 2001 with only 35,000miles on it.about 3 months ago i took it in for my monthly oil change/lube and was told that my head gasket was cracked and that i would need to get it replaced.they told me it would be a $1200 repair.i began to call around and each place, when i mentioned the problem and the year/make/model of my car, told me that they could have guessed what the repair was that i needed just by me giving them the type of car i drive.i've called 5 places now to get a quote on this repair and prices range anywhere between $700 - $1200, depending on the shop i use.by the way - i lose about a quart of oil per week.i wanted to do a little research to see how common of a problem this is, so i went on the internet and found so many complaints that it blew my mind!i found out that there was a defect in the head gasket design in pre-99 models and chrysler knew about it. It was never recalled, but as far as i am concerned it is a huge consumer fraud issue. I have found that 32% of neon owners have had to replace this part - which is obviously extremely high.it really is too bad that chrysler did not stand up for their product right away by voluntarily issuing a recall or by at least fixing the cars that were affected before the part was redesigned. I cannot afford a repair like this on my car - i bought a neon because i thought they were reliable cars with great gas mileage, which i need for my long commute to work every day.if this is a problem the manufacturer knew about, i feel that they should be paying for the repair.what can i do?!

I have had to twice replace the head gasket due to it failing, causing a major oil leak. Both times parts have been almost impossible to obtain. When checking with chrysler dealers in a 5-state area, all of acknowledged a multiplicity of occurences of this nature. One dealer at one time had 5 different neons in his garage at the same time for the same problem. I have had service technicians with chrysler dealers acknowledge that there does seem to be a defect with the original, but chrysler has refused to look into it. The car was only 18 months old at the time of the first failure, although it did have 45, 000 miles on it. Chrysler did not offer any assitance, even though i was told by numerous mechanices, that this problem should not be happening at that few of miles. I feel that this problem should be looked into. Although my mechanic advised that it does appear that chrysler has upgraded the gasket recently, i feel that i have spent over $800 in repairs that i should not have had to at this point and time with the car. Other than this problem, i have been very pleased with the car. Numerous attempts to obtain satisfation from the dealer were without any assistance. Thank you.

Since the purchase of this 1996 plymouth neon, in march 17,1997 there has been numerous problems. Starting with camshaft seal. Oil leakagearound head gasket many times, radiator recall, multiple cylinder misfire, break repairs,master cylinder seals swollen, rubber trans return cooler line cracked, rebuilt trans and replaced seals, fuel pump replacement, replace rear main seal, replace pan gasket, replace oxygen sensor, and recent trans failure.

Among other problems, the vehicle's head gasket has had to be replaced 3 times in the last 15,000 miles. All repairs have been performed at the chrysler dealer where i bought the vehicle. The vehicle is again leaking oil in my driveway, and i assume that the leak is again stemming from a failure of the head gasket, or another defective area of the engine. The service manager told me when the vehicle last had a head gasket replaced (approx. 1,500 miles ago) that mopar had recently redesigned the part due to numerous failures. While driving vehicle just stops running, consumer states this has been happening for 3 years, it started right after warranty ended, vehicle has been to dealership numerous times and dealership states there is nothing wrong with vehicle, however the vehicle will barely start at all.

Dash meters were already previously fixed but said i was going to be charged to replace the 2nd time since i wasn't under warranty anymore.the oil leak is said to be found in all neons from the mechanics i took it to.

After having my engine repaired for $570.00, i searched the internet to see if this is a common problem and found it was.this is potentially dangerous, if the engine failed while my wife was driving on the highway to work she could be hurt.after calling chrysler about the problem they were very rude and offered no solution at all, not even a compromise, knowing this is an issue but technically not yet recalled.i believe a recall should be forced as this is a major defect on all these model cars.thank you.

I purchased my 1996 neon in september of 2000.i have not even had it for a year and now it requires major engine work. Daimlerchrysler should be held accountable for this problem, which is a manufacturer's error, although it has not been recalled. I tried to have my car serviced at smith chrysler plymouth (12300 san pablo ave. Richmond,ca 94805)(510-215-4712), a local chrysler dealership, where an employee in the service department took it upon himself to tell me that he would need 400 dollars up front before looking at the car.if he found the problem to be a blown head gasket, the repair would be a total of about 800 dollars plus any other parts that might need to be replaced.this gentleman waited for the tow truck to leave and then preceded with the statement "well, the truck left you...what are you going to do?" i felt that this gentleman lacked professionalism, which reflected the whole service department because when i called back, the manager basically blew me off and told me that i misunderstood his employee, which i know is incorrect.daimlerchrysler knows that 1995-1998 neons blow head gaskets quite frequently, but they refuse to pay for the repairs.entire websites are devouted to head gasket problems on plymouth neons, there is even a rumor of a "goodwill policy" on behalf of chrysler, acknowledging their error by paying for parts of the repair.as a college student, i do not have money to pay for such costly repairs.i feel that daimlerchrysler and the dealership who treated me so unfairly should follow ethical business practices and fix the problem, which is a manufacturer's error.

While driving for longer than 45 minutes to an hourengine stalls. Vehicle has to sit for a couple of hours in order to start back up. Dealer cant find a solution nor can cause be determined.

Consumer is experiencing problems getting her 1996 plymouth neon registered because it allegedly failed to pass a smog check.*mrin september 200 the vehicle passed the test.in september 2003 the consumer received a letter from the manufacturer advising her that her make/model had been recalled because of a problem with the obd self test.the consumer's vehicle was not experiencing the symptoms of the recall therefore she didn't take it to the dealer.in september 2004 when she attempted to register the vehicle and obtain a new smog certificate she was advised that her vehicle failed the mil/check engine light due to failure to successfully complete all obd self test.upon reviewing the vin the dmv claimed that the vehicle had been salvaged therefore it did not receive the recall from the manufacturer.

While driving at any speedvehicle was cutting off and stalling, and sometimes consumer couldn't go over 30 mph. When consumertried to get over 30 mph, vehicle would stall and cut off without prior warning.also, air conditioner had problems, andengine check light kept coming on. Dealer had to change the engine check light,consumer took vehicle in for repair service about 10 times, and the consumner just got the vehicle out of the shop on feb 17th.dealer can't determine the problem.

O rings on air conditioning unit replaced on 6-23-00, evaportation coil replaced on 9-12-00.plug, senor-oxygen, exhaust, wiring pkg-postive cable replaced 10-2-00, temperature probe replaced 7-19-01. Air conditioning failed again in august, 2001.i have also replaced the inner outer left tie rods 4-9-98, head gasket 1-28-00, oil sending unit 3-3-00, rear main seal and bedplate 5-9-00.

Vehiclestalled unexpectedly at various speeds when on the road. Occasionally, the left turn signal did not operate, which did not inform other drivers when making turns.cruise control did not operate, as well preventing the vehicle from increasing or decreasing speed.

On the engine failures, both the head gasket and the valve cover gasket failed at separate times, resulting in all of the oil running onto the ground. The car was still under warranty, and the dealer repaired both problems. Regarding the brake light problem, the left turn signal often comes on when i apply the brakes. It will go off if i touch the turn signal handle on the steering column. This has gone on ever since i purchased the vehicle. Regarding the wheel problem, the car pulls to the right at highway speeds and the steering/handling has felt loose and wobbly despite having the rack and pinion replaced, a full alignment and having the tires balanced. Also, brake rotors are warped and currently being replaced. And, water leaked into the trunk and soaked items in both the trunk and on the rear floor. This, i think, has been fixed by resealing the rear lights.

Failure#1:1/97-6/97horn made no noise when pushed. Several visits to two dealers in ft.wayne and indianapolis, in and 6 months later it was finally resolved as being a pinched wire.had to involve owner of the dealership before it was fixed properly. Failure#2:1/97-3/97 the rear defrost switch failed on occassion for first three months of ownership.works continuously now.failure#3:8/97-1998left turn signal would light up when the brake was applied, only occassionally and while it was slowing down, not at a stop. Failure#4:6/99-current power locks failed. Failure#5: 7/99-8/99 power steering failed. Power switch replaced. Failure#6: 3/00-7/00 a/c failed.1/2 lb coolant leaked out and was replaced.

Fuel leaking from the fuel rail to return hose connection caused the fuel vapors to ignite from the sparks which were created during normal operation, resulting in fire and major property damage.

My neon has been intermittently stalling out when slowing for stops, starting the vehicle and intermittently when i am at idle.this becomes an issue when i am pulling off the highway and the car stalls, thus making it difficult for vehicles behind me to stop in time.no crashes have incurred yet, but they are possible.i have taken it in 3 times now to lebanon chrysler-plymouth for repair.11-19: fuel pump and various cables replaced.problem returned.!2-31: idle memory needed to be reset.1-2-02: throttle body and thermostat need replaced...all of these items were completed on different dates for the same problem.my car is currently at lebanon chrysler and hopefully the problem will be fixed completely this time, but it has been a safety issue while i drive.i leave sufficient distance between myself and other vehicles, but i cannot predict how others will drive.thank you for your time and please let me know what you can do to help.lisa brady.

Battery came on, andall dash lights went dim.then consumer heard a houlingnoise, consumer was able to get home.took vehicle to dealer, and dealer indicated thatharness wiring had melted.dealer said it was common in these types of cars. There was a recall 96v026000 on underhood wiring harness, but this vehicle was not included due to vin.

Since the purchase of this 1996 plymouth neon, in march 17,1997 there has been numerous problems. Starting with camshaft seal. Oil leakagearound head gasket many times, radiator recall, multiple cylinder misfire, break repairs,master cylinder seals swollen, rubber trans return cooler line cracked, rebuilt trans and replaced seals, fuel pump replacement, replace rear main seal, replace pan gasket, replace oxygen sensor, and recent trans failure.

First the battery kept draining due to a short within in it and was replaced.second, the transmission failed and had to be completely overhauled.by the time anyone figured out what was wrong it would not go in reverse.third, the head gasket is causing an oil leak and needs to be replaced.other things that just stopped working include the relase for the trunk and back left speaker.this car is a nightmare and something should be done to compensate anyone who still has one.

Consumer 1996 plymouth neon pcm had to be reprogrammed causing comer vehicle to fail emissions. The consumer's vehicle failed state emission inspection because the vehicle's readiness codes were cleared eachtime the key was turned to the off position.the consumer found a tsb which stated that the pcm must be reprogrammed to remedy the condition.after repeated attempts to get the local dealer to acknowledge the problem consumer took the vehicle elsewhere where the pcm was reprogrammed at no charge.

I have always maintained my car regularly, but i've had so many problems with it.first of all, i've always had brake trouble, second: my turn signals will sometimes come on when i hit the brakes (or sometimes not at all), my defrost keeps breaking (only vent and bi-level will work); my horn died for no reason a few months ago, and today my car won't start (i drove to church, and it worked fine, but when i later tried starting my car, it wouldn't start.it appeared as though the battery was dead <even though i din't leave anything on. So a friend jump-started my car.it started, but on my way home, the odometer, gas gauge, and hot-cold gauges were fluctuating up and down, and the radio kept resetting channels. The seatbeltand battery lights kept flickering on and off, as did the chimes.when i got home, i charged my car, although i felt certain it was not only the battery causing the problem.now, my car won't start at all, and i hear a clicking noise (if anything) when i turn the ignition.the gauges on my dash move up and down (even the spedometer) and yet my car remains still.the dome and dashboard lights flicker on and off, and the radio changes stations, yet receives nothing.it seems like some major electrical or computer problem. Head gasket blown and car requires new rotors at 38,500 miles.obvious defect.i called chryslers 800 number for recall and warranties and was advised that "chrysler is aware of the problem and they are dealing with it on a case by case basis".in order for chrysler to even consider paying for the repair, i have to see an authorized dealer and they will determine what if anything chrysler will pay for.i have to wait 4 days before i can even get into see an authorized dealer and then it will take another 2-3 days to repair.the car is undrivable and i have no other transportation.chrysler refuses to pay for a rental car.i call this very poor customer service and i would like chrysler to be held responsible for the repairs to my car.

The wiring harness on my 1996 dodge neon has been rubbing on the steering wheel support member.the member has sharp edges.the result was the wiring harness shorted against the steel member, melting a wire to the inside and panel lights, smoking, and causing an electrical failure.none of the fuses designed to protect the system were blown.i traced a melted wire from the light switch all the way to the radio.this is a potential for a vehicle fire.chrysler should recall all neon's and place a wiring tube around the harness where it contacts the support brace under the dash.

Air conditioning failed again in august, 2001.i have also replaced the inner outer left tie rods 4-9-98, head gasket 1-28-00, oil sending unit 3-3-00, rear main seal and bedplate 5-9-00.

Rattling noise under car when driven over bumps.

1.every time it rains outside i have a lake on the inside of the car, mainly on the passenger side in the back and in the trunk which is molding the carpet and items kept inside.2.the back up light on the driver side doesn't work properly, due to the moisture.3.the turn signal on the passenger side blinks really fast, and stays on on the inside of the car.4.the turn signal on the driver side has to be manually turned off after turning left.5.the steering wheel has locked on a steep turn resulting me going off road, luckily not hitting anyone.6. While driving, doesn't matter what type of surface all the gauges on my 1996 neon failed.sometimes if you tap the dashboard glass that covers the gauges they come back on or if you hit a bump in the road they come back on, but this isn't always the case.this has happened approximately 4-6 times over a six month period starting in may, 2004.

My neon has a problem with paint peeling.large spots of paint come off all over the vehicle, but primarily on the back and on the roof.i can't even wash the car, because each time i do more patches of paint come off.i have noticed this same problem on every neon that is the purplish (periwinkle) color i have seen.is there some kind of paint defect with this particular color.the dealership said that the paint was only under warrenty for 12 months, and since it was a 1996 and i wasn't the original owner there is nothing he can do.i realize it is an older car, and i wouln't complain if it was normal wear on a car, but this is more than normal aging.

I have a problem with my paint on my 1996 plymouth neon peeling off. Its not like it on the roof or hood its all over the car the trunk, the doors, the hood and the roof are all peeling. I know i am not the only one with this problem either.

Since the purchase of this 1996 plymouth neon, in march 17,1997 there has been numerous problems. Starting with camshaft seal. Oil leakagearound head gasket many times, radiator recall, multiple cylinder misfire, break repairs,master cylinder seals swollen, rubber trans return cooler line cracked, rebuilt trans and replaced seals, fuel pump replacement, replace rear main seal, replace pan gasket, replace oxygen sensor, and recent trans failure.

A 1996 car with 32,000 miles on it should not have paint flaking off in many different places of the car. Right down to metal the paint that comes off comes off like paper!!very disappointed in plymouth and how they have handled this problem with us!!all the dealers try to pass us on to the next without giving us any information or explaination for these happening!!!

Consumer complaint was while driving on the highway, going into townat 25 mph, accelerator pedal went down to the floor,and vehicle started to accelerate at high speed. Failure#4:6/99-current power locks failed. Failure#5: 7/99-8/99 power steering failed. Power switch replaced. Failure#6: 3/00-7/00 a/c failed.1/2 lb coolant leaked out and was replaced.

Front end makes a clunking noise when turning slowly. Also, heater blower motor failed.

I have always maintained my car regularly, but i've had so many problems with it.first of all, i've always had brake trouble, second: my turn signals will sometimes come on when i hit the brakes (or sometimes not at all), my defrost keeps breaking (only vent and bi-level will work); my horn died for no reason a few months ago, and today my car won't start (i drove to church, and it worked fine, but when i later tried starting my car, it wouldn't start.it appeared as though the battery was dead <even though i din't leave anything on. So a friend jump-started my car.it started, but on my way home, the odometer, gas gauge, and hot-cold gauges were fluctuating up and down, and the radio kept resetting channels. The seatbeltand battery lights kept flickering on and off, as did the chimes.when i got home, i charged my car, although i felt certain it was not only the battery causing the problem.now, my car won't start at all, and i hear a clicking noise (if anything) when i turn the ignition.the gauges on my dash move up and down (even the spedometer) and yet my car remains still.the dome and dashboard lights flicker on and off, and the radio changes stations, yet receives nothing.it seems like some major electrical or computer problem. My car worked fine (with the exception of the broken horn and usual problems, until today.also, at my 36000 check-up, the " engine" check light came on, but the mechanics said it was no cause for concern.i have had so many problems with this car. Please tell me if other persons are having similar difficulties. Could my dead horn have been caused by whatever is malfunctioning now? also, i hear wierd clunking noises many times while driving, espec when driving over bumps or around curves. My car makes squeaking noises like a bird chirping also. I have taken good care of my car, which is whynow i am convinced that these must be manufacturing problems. I have even complained to the dealerships. Please help.

When accelerating the car pulls to the left,when decelerating vehiclepulls to the right.steering wheel replaced, it was vibrating due to being out of alignment, rack and pinion and steering rack were also replaced.excessive shaking while driving, dealer replaced tires, and balanced and rotated tires, however shake still present, dealer stated vehicle had torque pull and could not be aligned, also had bad strut, vehicle continues to pull to the left and right and shakes.consumer noticed oil around the bolts on the valve cover at only 265 miles, dealer can not find any leaks, front motor mount had a lot of play and was replaced, oil is very dark in color, poor power.cv joints bad.dealer lubed and adjusted front windows, they were hard to open and close.windshield wiper blades failed.wrong air cleaner vent was installed on vehicle.emergency brake was stuck on.consumer states vehicle was taken to dealer on three occasions for brake problems.consumer complained of poor gas mileage.

Windows fog updue to some kind of moisture getting inside of vehicle, andcausing windows and lights to fog up. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated this was not suppose to happen.also,dealer called chrysler, and chrysler stated it was a safety issue.

1.every time it rains outside i have a lake on the inside of the car, mainly on the passenger side in the back and in the trunk which is molding the carpet and items kept inside.2.the back up light on the driver side doesn't work properly, due to the moisture.3.the turn signal on the passenger side blinks really fast, and stays on on the inside of the car.4.the turn signal on the driver side has to be manually turned off after turning left.5.the steering wheel has locked on a steep turn resulting me going off road, luckily not hitting anyone.6. Headlights are very poor at night.7. Radio reception is getting worse.stations that used to come in won't anymore.8.car shakes at different speeds and at a light.9.there is glare on the windsheild from dash that causes poor visibility in the day time.

Paint is peeling off my 1996 plymouth neon.is this a problem because the windshield is glued to the peeling paint?the dealer says chrysler will not repaint it.

Front windshield and the rear winsdhield freeze overnight in the wintertime.the egr valve busted open, and the car stalled continuously.it was unsafe and unfit to drive.i had a major oil leak and the engine head gasket needed replacement.

Front passenger's side wheel on two occasions has veered car to right, made loud noise, dealer said nothing was wrong with the vehicle.
