Read complaints for PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER (1999)

My airbag light was illuminated and i lost the use of my horn and cruise control.

1999 plymouth chrysler grand voyager defective clock spring.there was a recall for vans up to year 1998, but for some reason the 1999 vans haven't been recalled because of the clockspring.this may cause a malfunction of the airbag and the horn doesn't work.

Horn started beeping by itself, then stayed on continuously.dealer said it was a defective airbag assembly.i called chrysler to complain and they agreed to pay all but $150 of the $607 bill.i don't know if this is part of the clockspring assembly problems or not. We have not noticed any problem with the airbag light or cruise control.

The air bag lightilluminated.the vehicle's horn and cruise control also stopped functioning.the dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty clockspring.recall 02v293000 is related to this failure but the consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.

There was a recall on this vehicle. I took it to a local dealer to be fixed. Had classic "no airbag, no horn, no cruise" symptoms. Dealer replaced airbag clockspring, but did not fix the problem of "no airbag". The dealer's stance is "we don't troubleshoot, we only replaced the part." they let the vehicle leave their service department in an unsafe condition without notifying the customer of an issue, which was only discovered after the vehicle was picked up. Dealer refuses to replace clockspring, and insists on a diagnostic fee to troubleshoot an issue that i have already diagnosed myself.i ended up having to obtain a replacement clockspring on my own, and fit it to the vehicle. The airbag, horn, and cruise control now work on the vehicle. Chrysler refuses to do anything about it.

Please note an error on my part entering data into odi #10073098:in the description, replace "/pwr. Steering failure" with "cruise control failure".i incorrectly typed 'pwr. Steering' in probably because i was so enraged that i had to pay the dealer one day's pay to fix their (christler's) problem that is an obvious defect and should not be my responsibility.is the $240.00 i paid to them the penalty the average consumer must pay to account for their engineering defects and ignorance?or is the real penalty the potential loss of my or one of my family member's lives for driving defective junk? .

The clock spring failed which caused the light to illuminate, and caused the horn to become inoperative. Dealer notified.*ph

Consumer states that the airbag light came on and stayedon all day. Consumer had the vehicle diagnosed by adealership and they had to replace the clock springsin the air bags,if springs were not replaced it would ofcaused the air bag to malfunction.

Consumer stated the clock spring failed, which caused the air bag light to come on. Dealer notified.

Driving home from minnesota to tennessee the horn and cruise contol stopped responding (clockspring failed) without a horn the vehicle will not allow the driver toalert others to avoid accidents. Vehicle has been parked until i can afford repairs.

Please note the following recall:inivan recall b24, clockspring / warranty extensionhis recall involves dodge caravan/grand caravan, plymouth voyager/grand voyager and chrysler town & country minivan's produced by daimlerchrysler from 1996 - 1998. The clockspring assembly that connects the steering wheel mounted electrical components to the electrical system, on the minivans, may lose the electrical connection to those components. This could cause the driver's airbag, horn and/or speed control system (if equipped) to be inoperative. An inoperative driver's airbag will not deploy and can result in increased injury to the driver in a frontal crash. A failed clockspring will cause the airbag warning light, on the minivan's instrument panel to illuminate intermittently while you are driving. If this occurs, contact your dealer immediately to have the airbag system inspected. If your dealer determines that the clockspring has failed, it will be replaced without charge to you.document id: nogcd123353the problem is in the 1999 model year as well.i inquired about this with the manufacturer but was basicly told "too bad"i find it hard to belive that the exact same problem found in a 1998 model could not exist in a 1999 model.

The subject vehicle has had a failure of the clock spring mechanism.this has resulted in the air bag deployment (along with cruise control and horn) being non functional.chrysler has admitted this problem exists with 1996-1998 vehicles but will not fix 1999 vehicles.your web site exhibits numerous instance of this failure on 1999 vehicles. How do i go about getting a known problem with this failure to be acknowledged and fixed by chrysler?i consider this a serious safety issue that should be taken care of by chrysler regardless of auto mileage.

Airbag warning light on in 1999 plymouth grand voyager...delaer replaced clockspring which was the problem...similar to current nhtsa investigation number rq04001.

This is my third attempt at getting this matter reported!i have called twice before (around 7/17 and again around 8/7) but have yet to receive the form(s) i need to sign!according to your site my report "is the first step" in getting this very definite safety related defect fixed.i have no air bags that work, as far as i know, no horn (definitely), and no cruise control.i know it is probably the clockspring, but cannot afford to have it fixed!

Air bag warning lamp continuously illuminated with failure of horn & cruise control. Previous year models are being recalled for same clockspring not being wound correctly during installation.

When driving the vehicle at any speed air bag warning lightappeared on the dashboard.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determinedthat the clock spring needed to be replaced.

Consumer states that their vehicle air bag clock spring hadthe same defect stated in recall number 02 v 293 000. Vehicle not included cause the recall is for the earlier model. Ph

Airbag light constant illumination, along with horn/pwr. Steering failure.this is the same defect that was recalled in earlier year models (plymouth grand voyager) through 1998, however mine is a 1999 and although exhibets same failure/defect, is not covered.this is reported to be a defect related to an "open circuit" clockspring.see also nhtsa action # rq04001, odi investigation ea01-007, safety recall # 02v-293, technical service bulletin # 0801102, and technical svce. Bulletin #0801001,there has not yet been an accident or incident, however it is unacceptable that such a defect exists and that the manufacturer is aware of it, however will not do anything about it.this is clearly a major safety defect and is not the fault of the operator, nor is it a maintenance issue.

The contact owns a 1999 plymouth grand voyager. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

Air bag light is illuminated, horn and cruise control are not working. Ts

The contact owns a 1999 plymouth grand voyager. While driving approximately 10 mph, the air bag warning light briefly illuminated on the instrument panel and continued to do so intermittently. The contact received nhtsa recall campaign id 04v480000 (air bags). The dealer did not repair the vehicle since the warranty was no longer valid. The failure continued to occur. The air bag service light remained illuminated at all times. The contact also stated that the horn would not function. When she was involved in a crash the air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact didn't mention if there were any injuries. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 125,000.

Head gasket was found to be leaking coolant. Dealership estimated 900.00 plus the cost of parts. My husband then decided to buy the kit from them for 109.00 and proceed to repair it himself. After sitting for 9 days it is almost finished. This van only has 67,000 miles. The clock spring was also replaced earlier in the year as it stopped working causing the airbag light to stay on, the horn not to work, and the cruise control not to work.

'recall campaign; daimler chrysler issued for clockspring.the consumer received the recall notice but cannot afford to have the vehicle sit at the dealer who being replaced.the consumer request a check for the blue book value of the vehicle.

The consumer received a recall notice # 04v480000. The consumer took the vehicle to get it serviced. When leaving the dealer, she noticed the airbag light was still on. The dealer could not determine the problem and told her to schedule an appointment. The dealer told the consumer the inspection would be free of charge. But when scheduling the appointment, she was told that it would be a fee.

Egr system failure (failing airbags, horn, and cruise control system)-as per an article in todays atlanta journal-constitution, you are currently probing plymouth grand voyagers from model years 1998 & 1999 due to 109 complaints regarding failing airbags, horns, and cruise control systems. Therefore, since my van had the same problem, i want to be added to your list.

While driving consumer noticedair bag indicator flashed andhorn stoppedfunctioning.vehicle was serviced, and the technician determinedthat clock springfailed, and needed to be replaced.

(1) normal operation of vehicle led to failure(s) [ i count each time the airbag light comes on when it is not supposed to as a separate failure-my count is approximate].(2) the clock spring assembly in my minivan operates intermittently and thus my airbag (so i'm told) and horn also operate intermittently. I've had some close calls becase the horn does not work; thankfully i've not needed the airbag to deploy.(3) i learned today, to the cost of a diagnostic charge, that the dealer and manufacturer are unwilling to repair under recall b24 as my chrysler voyager is a 1999 model.

The air bag light is on and has caused the horn and cruise. Control to be inoperative .there was a recall regarding a defective clock spring . However my vehiclewas not included in this recall. *nlm

Air bag light stays on and has since first purchased, horn has not worked for about 8 months, cruise control quit working 3 months ago. Reading other complaints it appears there was a recall stating the problem is with the column clock spring. If i could receive a recall for the manufacturer to just provide a replacement column clock spring my nephew would place it on the van.

I recently purchased a 1999 plymouth grand voyager. Immediately i noticed the airbag warning light going on and off while driving, and after searching your site, i've discovered that quite a lot of people are having the same problem. As this issue is still not a manufacturer recall yet for this year model, how do i remedy this problem?

The air bag light came on and would not turn off.also, the horn and cruise control were disabled.*sc

The clock spring failed, which caused the airbags to be inoperative. There was a recall issued for the clock spring, but the vehicle was outside of the remedy scope. *ph

1999 plymouth grand voyager - clockspring here has been a recall on all models from 1996 - 1998 for this problem.am experiencing the same problem in my 1999 voyager.

My vehicle has the same issue noted in recall#02v293000 which is the clock spring failure causing the air bag light to remain illuminated, the horn/air bag and cruise control to be unoperable. The chrysler dealer will not fix under warranty as the recall is for plymouth grand voyager up to model year 1998. I do not understand why the recall does not extend to the 1999 models as the same issue is apparent as reported by several consumers on this site and i'm sure it has not been reported by even more. I consider this a serious safety issue that should be taken seriously by chrysler and recalled regardless of year/mileage.

Air bag sensor light comes on and stays on , horn doesn't work. Air bags might not work if vehicle is in a crash.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision while driving 20mph. Upon impact driver's air bag failed to deploy.

Air bag light stays on, horn doesn't work, cruise control not working also.

Air bags failed to deploy in an accident. Yh

1999 plymouth grand voyager se - airbag light came on at 72000 miles. I found that daimler-chrysler had a safety recall on 1996-1998 plymouth vans because the clockspring was not installed properly in the steering column. Causing the airbag to become inoperable, the horn and cruise control to also stop working. Ifound on a plymouth forum that many other 1999 van owners have had the same problems. When i called chrysler, they said the recall did not cover the 1999 van and that they would not extend the safety recall.*la

Air bags deployed while driving approx. 10 - 15 mphwhen dip in road was driven over.no impact of any sort with anything was made.there was no damage to the vehicle, except the air bag deployment.

Air bag light constantly on, horn failed.clock spring was replaced.i did save the old clock spring and it is available if you want it.*la

Airbag light comes on intermittently.clock spring being replaced today at a cost of $220.was told there was a recall on previous year voyagers with same problem, but mine is not covered.looking at the amount of complaints regarding this, and the current open investigation, i believe crysler needs to include this in the recall.

I have a 1999 plymouth grand voyager. There is couple of problems with my air bag light, horn, and cruse. After blinking of air bag light, horn and cruse control are not working. Air bag light is on and off interminttenly.

The air bag light lit up, and shortly afterwards, the cruise control and horn stopped working. The dealer advisor called me and said that the clock spring would have to be replaced. A couple hours later, he called me and informed me that the wires in the airbag had overheated and the entire air bag assembly would now have to be replaced. The company reimbursed me last month for the clock spring, which they said was recalled. However, i feel that i should also be reimbursed for the airbag assembly, since it was connected to the clockspring. This is a major safety issue that has affected many other consumers with this same vehicle.the dealer advisor gave us the clock spring as we requested, but said that they could not give us the air bag, since it needed to be sent to chrysler for failure analysis.

Consumer complained aboutseveral problems. Recently, the air bag light came on/the odometer stopped reading mileage, and thehorn did not work. The cause ofthese problems had not been determined.

My wife and i own a 1999 plymouth voyager minivan.we have had several failures that cause us concern about the manufacturer's quality control during production of this vehicle.most recently, the airbag warning light began to come on for no apparent reason while we were driving normally.most of the time, it would go back off, but sometimes it would stay on until the vehicle ignition was turned off.on april 27, 2004, we had to have the "clockspring" replaced on this vehicle to correct this problem. The cost of this repair was $180.96. The person in the service department in the chrysler dealership that performed the repair told me that this part has failed on many of these type minivans. Given the large number of failures of this part, it is my opinion that it should have been replaced under an extended warranty by the manufacturer.

I have a 1999 plymouth grand voyager that is experiencing a problem with the clockswitch (horn, cruise control not working, airbag light on). I called the recall line with chrysler and they said my van was not covered on the recall. Only 1996-1998. I noticed when the investigation was taking place all vehicles from 1996-2000 were being looked at. I think chrysler should fix the problem with my clockswitch for free because this is a safety defect.

Clockspring -airbag light stays on horn doesn't work and cruise control doesn't work.this year should be included in the recall.

Air bag warning light constantly on and led to horn failure.almost resulted in accident(s) when we are unable to sound horn when other unsafe driver(s) manuever in a manner which would cause collision with us.

Clock spring was defective. The air bag light came and stayed on, making the air bags inoperable. Also, it effected the horn and the cruise control. Arecall was issued. However, this vehicle was not included due to vin.

The air bag light illuminate on the vehicle, which caused the horn and cruise control to be inoperative. There was a recall regarding the issue, however the consumer's vehicle identification number was not included.

I was driving to the train station on the morning of august 29th when suddenly all of the van's interior lights came on. The lights stayed on for a few seconds and then went off by themselves, just as they had came on. As soon as the lights went off, all of the power door locks, including the rear gate, spontaneously unlocked. I re-locked the doors by using the locking switch on the drivers door. However, the sequence of the interior lights coming on, going off, and then all doors and the rear gate unlocking happened two more times, for a total of three times. It did not happen again after the third time. I called smith haven chrysler plymouth as soon as i got to work and made an appointment for friday, september 1st. The problem did not occur again either before or after i took the car in for service. They could not duplicate the problem when they examined the car. But since the doors unlocked by themselves i wanted to make sure that it was reported. I often have my grandchildren in the van and even though they are always buckled in, i don't want to have to wonder whether or not the doors are going to someday unlock themselves. So far it appears to have been an isolated incident.

If your not the correct organization to report this too, and you know the correct organization could you please forward this to them? this morning on the way to work my 1999 plymouth grand voyager's electrical system cut off and cut right back on again for no apparent reason.the cd player cut off, the door locks activated, the lights went out but the abs light came on afterwards.i was not going extremely fast about 45miles per hour, on a straight road with no bumps or vibrations to shake something loose.i'm concerned because if this had happened while i was passing someone it could have possibly caused an accident.i called the dealer and was told no one else had complained of this problem but thought i should let someone know in case it was a serious, re-call type of, problem

All of the computerized gauges are inoperative while driving. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that this issue was not covered under a manufacturer'srecall.

Dt:contact stated while driving the interior light dimmed, and the abs light on the dashboard came on. The entire electrical system failed and the vehicle stalled. The problem occurred without warning. The dealer has not been contacted yet. The manufacturer informed her that she needed to have the vehicle looked at. The vehicle will have to be towed to the dealer.

While driving along at approximately 65 mph the gas gauge suddenly went from 1/4 to zero. In addition the tachometer went to zero , the temp gauge went to the off gauge and the speedometer went to 120 and stayed there. The abs light also came on and stayed there. This is a major safety defect and my research reveals that it is a known problem and due to poorcold solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board.multiple vehicle owners have reported this problem and many people have paid for repairs that they should not have had to pay for because of a defective printed circuit board problem. If the problem has been in existence since production it seems reasonable that the problem should be fixed at no cost to thevehicle owner. Not knowing vehicle speed, fuel level, engine temp is a major hazard and an accident waiting to happen.

1999 plymouth grand voyager expresso dash panel has flat lined and all service lights remain on. Tach, speedometer, fuel, temp, rear wiper, and mileage no longer work. Vehicle sometimes won't start.

Consumer states the vehicle is experiencing an electrical problem in which the abs and engine lights illuminate and the other dash lights go out completely, the dealer has been unable to remedy this problem.

Serpentine belt on 1999 plymouth grand voyager 3.8l has "jumped" off 4 times in the last year.usually happens under wet conditions.car has had to be towed multiple times.repairs attempted include replacing tensioner, belt and simple reassembling.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the instrument cluster panel gauges failed to illuminate.additionally, the headlights intermittently illuminated if the high beam was engaged.also, the vehicle stalled and operated at a reduced speed.the vehicle was exposed to hurricane weather prior to the onset of these problems.the vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop, who performed a diagnostic test which produced no failure codes.the manufacturer was not contacted.

Like thousands of others my instrument cluster went dead and is dead.

1999 plymouth grand voyager se with a horn defect as described in press releases about your pending technical analysis. The horn requires excessive force to actuate. Chrysler says replacement steering wheel is $900, but will discount to $300 when i complained to corporate offices. I feel this is a design defect and dangerous and do not feel it is correct to be charged and this should be replaced/repaired promptly as a safety issues. Who ever wore out a horn?

I started vehicle to warm up while at our cabin in northern michigan. After about 3 minutes of running i noticed a bad odor coming from the vehicle. Upon inspection of the vehicle i discovered smoke inside of the vehicle.i moved it away from my garage and shut it off. I opened the doors and the left rear speaker next to the seat was on fire! i went into my cabin, grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire.

Headlights dim sharply in cold weather or traveling in wet conditions. If i hit a puddle in the road this will happen also or i might lose them all together, for about 30 seconds. This seems to be from insufficient insulating of wire harness. Could cause a fire or severe accident, especially if traveling on a highway.

The printed circuit board that controls the instrument cluster has failed twice and had to be replaced.the mechanic admitted that this happens frequently with my vehicle and i can expect it to fail agian.there is an electrical problem that the dealership says does not exsist, yet my car constantly fails to operate properly and many electrical faults occur regularly.the headlights stop working, the radio cuts out, the instrument panel goes out, the door locks wont work, the hazzard flashers come on & will not shut off.the dealer insists that there is nothing wrong, yet the problems continue to plauge my vehicle.

Horn won't work and air bag light is on consistent with 1996-1998 chrysler minivan clockspring recall. Chrysler said my minivan was not covered under the recall and so will not replace the clockspring.

Van was bought privately in summer of 2008. During the first road trip with the voyager, the transmission went and was replaced with a rebuild transmission. In september of that same year, fuel pump and battery had to be replaced. Two months later, head gasket blew, was repaired but damage to engine was unknown. In winter of 2008, repeated problems with oil & brake fluid leaking out from calipers. Brakes alwaysneeded some type of work: pads, drums, bearings, calipers.in 2009, water pump had to be replaced, yet van still felt hotter then what it read. Exhaust started coming through the passenger side vents .it was repaired, but started again. Found hoses getting holes burnt through, and needed to be repaired.in 2010, replaced headlights, but night time illumination was still poor, even with high beams on. Battery needed to be jump started more & more, and an excessive amount of battery acid had to be removed from a terminal. The battery actually looked like it had been burnt. More leaks found caused by holes through hoses. Yet again, the water pump had to be replaced in july.then in october 2010, things got very scary, the serpentine belt fell off for the first time while driving about 10km, while turning up into the driveway. I couldn't complete the turn due to the loss of power steering and was almost hit head on by oncoming traffic. The belt was put back on. 2 days later the belt fell off again, & again. Serpentine belt has jumped off tensioner 4 times in past 3 weeks under 2/wet and 2/ dry conditions. Replace tensionr and pully and belt

Head gasket went bad.the car never overheated so our only clue was a puddle of anti-freeze in the driveway.

While driving our 1999 plymouth grand voyager during a rain storm the vehicle lost power steering and began to overheat.the cause was found to be that the serpentine belt had slipped off of the pulley.belt was replaced and vehicle was driven home.this is not the first occurrence of this failure.

Started overheating 12/20/02. Replaced coolant.coolant leaked out quickly. Taken to mechanic on 12/23-replaced water to drive there, no overheating. Mechanic found badly deteriorated head gaskets, leaking profusely under pressure. Will have van towed to dealership on 12/30/02.

I have a 1999 plymouth grand voyager that i purchased new. I have had a recurring problem with the serpentine belt sliding off or breaking. I have 67,000 miles on this vehicle, and the belt/tensioner has been replaced at least 8 times. I want to know why this has not been a recall by daimler chrysler? i have heard from other owners that this has been a problem for them as well. All i was told by the dealer and mechanics is that this is a design failure. Daimler chrysler should be forced to correct this deign problem for its serpentine belt! thank you.

Egr valve failed.new valve installed, which had been "upgraded" by plymouth to correct fails.i question whether a recall should have been issued for this emission system component.

Fuel line in engine compartment was spraying fuel where the flex line connects to the solid line that feeds fuel to the injectors. As luck would have theres was no fire only a bad smell in the passenger compartment. I was charged by the dealer to repair this leak, which amounted to putting a new clamp on the fuel line. I bought a 1999 plymouth grand voyager. I have noticed the shifter to put it in gear does not lock, meaning the brake does not have to be pressed before shifting into gear.we found out after our 4 year old accidentally bumped the shifter sending it into drive with our 2 year old in the back seat i was able to jump in and stop the van before it hit another car.i checked several other vehicles and found that the brake actually has to be pressed before you can move the shifter.is this a recall with my van?it doesn't seem normal.i need some advice.*la

Was driving on highway and transmission slipped from drive into lower gear. Was unable to get back into drive. Took vehicle to dealer and they relplaced the sensor that tells the trasmission what gear to be in. On 9/27/2000, while driving on the highway at approximately 60mph, the vehicle began to make a rattling noise. Spring of 2003, my 1999 plymouth grand voyager began having problems with the transmission.after i backed out of my driveway to take my kids to school, i could not get the vehicle to shift out of reverse.i was in the middle of the road for several minutes before i could get it to work again.i took the vehicle to a transmission specialist who replaced several parts.i continued to have problems shifting the transmission and returned to the specialist who discovered that chrysler had sent a defective part.my transmission began leaking fluid profusely in april 2004.i took it to my mechanic because i thought it was oil leaking from the engine.however, he immediately transferred it to the transmission specialist, again.i was told that the differential pin inside the transmission is defective and it breaks loose, cracks the exterior of the transmission case, which in turn causes the transmission to stop functioning.the vehicle is suddenly rendered immobile.the 1999 plymouth grand voyager is a safety hazard both to its occupants, and the general public.i transport my young children in this vehicle, it is supposed to be a family vehicle, however, it is not safe.the vehicle could have caused a crash had i been on the interstate or backing out of my driveway into traffic, when the differential pin failed.at the time of the failure, i had less than 60,000 miles on this vehicle.the transmission specialist stated that he keeps twenty transmissions of this type (plymouth, dodge, chrysler) on hand at all times because he fixes them all day long.i have pictures of my defective transmission and would be more than happy to e-mail them as evidence.sincerely, melinda wieland

On february 7 2003 my wife drove my 1999 plymouth grand voyager home just down the street and heard a bang under the floor board drivers side. The long and short of it is that our transmission had a catastrophic failure. Needless to say it cost us as much as we have paid for the vehicle since we acquired it from a very reputable car company.

Have spent four months going through repairs etc for problem they admit exists, and they can't fix.we were offered a new van 8/12/99, corporate told them to replace van same day, and they won't!we went tthrough co's a gand the mtr vehlce lic board, who told us to start civil action, as did their own arbitration case adminstr.since it a nonrepairable issue why can't they be forced to tell consumers?

Transmission failure for the second time!at 33,000 miles my transmission "went out" and the dealership "repaired it'.now at 93,000 the speedometer gear has malfunctioned and i have to replace the whole transmission.this happened while i was driving.the transmission locked in second gear, which was unexpected and surprised me.this action could have caused an accident but i was the only car on the road.*la

On 2 separate ocassions the speed sensors to the transmission stopped working and it put my 1999 plymouth voyager in limp mode and wouldn't allow my vehicle to go above 35mph. Dt*:the contact stated while driving 55mph a loud pop sound came from the vehicle.the vehicle was towed home. Upon inspection the contact determined the roll pin in the driveline differential unit broke.the entire transmission needs to be replaced.no repairs have been made.

Transmission failed because the differential pin shot through the transmission.

1999 plymouth grand voyager with 74,000 milesthe transmission died completely when the differential pin shot through the top of the trasmission, causing us to have to purchase a new transmission at a cost of approx. $2,500.00.chrysler dealers are well aware that there is a problem with these vans.they all knew exactly what i was describing and i was told by the service dept. At team goewey dodge in latham that this is a commom occurence with these vans in particular.all of the other transmission repair shops in the area concurred with this.i contacted chryslers customer service dept. At 55mph the vehicle starts to rattle beginning in the engine.dealer informed the owner that the atf was leaking.replace the transaxle case because a $3.00 pin broke, allowing a rod in the dirrerential to crash thru the case.at 62,000 miles the exact same thing happened again, causing the vehicle to stall in moving traffic.

I saw a fox news report about the gen 3 seat belts in chrysler products. I also did some research on my own. I own a 1999 plymouth grand voyager equipped with these seat belts. Since i transport children, including toddlers and infants in my van, this report has troubled me. I was wondering how many more injuries and deaths it will take to force chrysler to recall these belts.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 20mph.upon impact,rear/ middle bench seat restraint failed to retract, throwing occupant tofront seat. This resulted in minor injuries.

The vehicle's front captain seat's seat belt are being replaced under the recall. The consumer indicates that the rear captains seats seat belts are the same exact style and should be replaced. The dealer will not repair what's not apart of the recall. The consumer indicated owning a grand voyager and the recall is on a plymouth voyager 1999. I've purchased a 1999grand voyager and noticed that the driver side strut tower was rotting out and the passenger side was starting to rust as well , but not to the degree as the drivers side..i looked up and found no recall this situation, but was informed that chrysler ,plymouth , dodge , knew about this since 1996 but did nothing to correct it until 2001. I enjoy my vehicle but the repairs for this problem are a bit too much for me at this time due to my disability ,and the fact that i am on a very limited income. Is there any one that can assist me in getting my vehicle repair?

While driving our 1999 plymouth grand voyager during a rain storm the vehicle lost power steering and began to overheat.the cause was found to be that the serpentine belt had slipped off of the pulley.belt was replaced and vehicle was driven home.this is not the first occurrence of this failure.

The contact owns a 1999 plymouth grand voyager.while driving 25 mph, the power steering became inoperative and smoke was coming from under the hood and under the vehicle.the vehicle was towed by the county and deemed as destroyed.the dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure.the failure and current mileage was 199,000.

We just purchased the preowned van on april 8, 2003 it has 41600 miles on it one time owner previously 1.paint is chipping off of the driver side door handle.the dealer is going to get us touch up paint to fix. 2. The power steering return hose to the power steering reservoir was cut when we looked at it.the dealer had the mechanic look at it and thought maybe the hose got caught in the fan belt and cut it.the dealer repaired it and said no other damage was done.this time they tide down the hose away from the belt.

Serpentine belt has jumped off tensioner 5 times in the past 3 months, all under wet conditions. Replaced power steering pump, tensioner (2x), pulley, and belt.

Safety hazard!!! serpentine belt comes repeatedly off of our 1999 plymouth grand voyager... When driving in rain, snow or standing water.this results in the loss of steering, engine cooling and electrical charging.in researching this problem, it turns out that this is a known defect.it is very possible this has resulted in previous injuries or deaths, but that this was not known because after crashes have occurred, it would not be known that the belt had slipped off of the pulleys prior to the crashes occurring.turns out this is such a common problem that 2 companies have actually produced kits to fix the problem, gates and goodyear.the gates part # is 38342k, and it is for 1996-2000 chrysler mini-vans with 3.0 liter engines.the websight http://www.dodgeforum.com/archive/threads/serpentine-belt-591826-1.html shows several examples of owners that have experienced this same issue.there are various sights throughout the internet that describe this similar situation.when someone drives through even a small puddle or a small snowdrift, the serpentine belt is highly prone to slip off... Causing the lack of steering.since many of these vans are owned by people like my family, who have small children who could either be injured or killed by such instances... I believe it is highly important chrysler order a safety driven recall on these vehicles to install the gates or goodyear fix kits.

The contact owns a 1999 plymouth grand voyager.while driving approximately 35 mph in rainy weather conditions, the power steering failed.the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and roadside assistance was called to the scene.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the serpentine belt was replaced.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer again for the same failure.currently, the vehicle is in the process of being repaired.the failure mileage was 152,000 and current mileage was 155,000.

Rack and pinion failed, causing consumer to experience control problems, dealer replaced the power steering pump, the rack and pinion, and the tensioner pulley.

Pretty new for the rack & pinion to be going out.no new part available-3 month waiting list to order per mechanic.dealer will not inquire with daimler chrysler on recall status since numerous complaints on steering gear for this year, make & model found on internet.more investigation is needed by someone.forced to get used part at salvage yard (which could also be defective) since unable to drive van until fixed and new part cannot be located anywhere in u.s. At this time (per mechanic).

While turning to pull into the garage, the steering wheel stopped steering.could not steer left or right. Whole rack and pinion needed to be replaced.

While pulling into the parking lot vehicle lost steering control. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop and consumer was informed that rack and pinion steering needed to be replaced. Dealer and manufacturer were notified.

While steering into a parking place at a local supermarket, steering suddenly became very difficult to imposible for left turns.mechanic found that the power steering rack was failing to turn vehicle to the left.replacing rack component ($549.00) was difficult as chrysler would not release the part for seven days and wanted to know if the vehicle had been in an accident before releasing the part.it would seem that chryler is aware of the defective part but is not releasing information about its tendency to fail while operating the vehicle.

Left side strut tower rusted through on 1999 plymouth voyager, i noticed this after we had bought it in 2005 and was told that it would not be covered from chrysler, found out that i was not the only one this had happened too, chrysler made the mistake and they should stand behind it, i was getting maintenance when it fell apart, lucky it didn't happen on the highway.

Strut tower corrosion - 1999 plymouth grand voyager. Strut tower wasrusted through with 65,000 miles on the odometer, asked dealership to look at it and they refused and referred me to a body shop.i received similar answers from other dealers in the area.estimated costs for this repair is $1,600.i called chrysler customer care and the customer care person was very rude and dismissive, and his tone was snide and scathing as i was told that i was over 30k miles out of my warranty and why was i calling their company to get help in these repairs.when i asked for a higher rep i was denied care and again, scathingly was told the problem was not theirs.after looking online i found that this issue was something reported before.

Rusting of strut towers on 1999 plymouth grand voyager.

The vehicle caught fire when i was about to leave my house, i had started it and then was about to put it in gear when it exploded, i had to jump out the passenger side and then there was another explosion followed by another.

Metal fatigue-8 inch crack has been found by me on the drivers side where the mcpherson strut is connected to the body fender mounting area. I have never seen anything like this. Car has never been in a front accident and is garage kept. I have been the sole owner of the vehicle. If this crack continues this car will no longer function and have to be junked. I believe this is a chrysler manufacturing defect. Chrysler should be completely responsible for its repair or alternate solution provided to me.

Both sliding power doors would intermittentlynot open from either side. Vehicle has beento dealer on five occasions, andproblem still occurring.

Strut tower corrosion - 1999 plymouth grand voyager. Strut tower was rusted through with 103,000 miles on odometer.asked dealership to repair - they wouldn't touch it.received similar answers from other dealers in area.only green chrysler-plymouth, east moline illinois would attempt the repair. Cost was $900.00+lack of inspection and support on this issue from dealership network is appalling. There is an inspection port on the strut tower - so the engineers knew there could be the potential for a problem when it was built.yet the dealerships do not inspect. A tower doesn't instantaneously corrode between 99k and 103k.there was a problem prior to the 100k barrier and no one picked up on it. But the interesting thing is that there are so many folks that have the same issue.there were two other cars into the same body shop along with my vehicle with the same failure!please check public forums on the web using google or another search engine.you will find that the problem is prevalent and yet...nothing is being done to alert the public as to problems. Can you imagine what would happen if that strut tower would fail while the vehicle is at speed? how many must die before there is any action taken?

The strut tower on my '99 plymouth grand voyager has rusted out on the drivers side.my dealer has informed me that it is a safety issue and needs to be addressed right away.when looking on-line at this problem, many other people have the same issue.it seems that they should have a recall, or fix the problem.

I own a 1999 plymouth voyager minivan.it has 75,000 miles and the strut towers, an itegral part of the suspension/steering system are failing.rust has compromised therir structural integrity.except for strange sounds from the area of the towers no incidents have occurred thus far.

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 125,000. Updated 08/31/11 updated 12/105/11

The left (driver) side strut tower appears to be split and rusting out, while the right (passenger) side shows no signs of rust.there is also no rust anywhere on the outside of the vehicle.there appears to be something defective with the metal on the drivers side.if the strut tower fails, i will lose control of the vehicle.i spoke with another owner with the same problem who works in a body shop.they have seen this problem on several vehicles.when i took the vehicle to the chrysler dealership where i bought the car, they said there was no recall, but they had seen this problem before.i would like to know if the vehicle is safe to drive as is.if it is not safe, i feel that is a factory defect and should be corrected by chrysler.i do have digital pictures of both strut towers.the dealer wants around $400.00 to fix it and they will not tell me whether it is safe or not.

Re:strut mounts on 1999 plymouth voyager se- vin [xxx]the strut mounts were deteriorating at a rapid pace and were rusting out to the point that they could break at any time, causing serious injury to someone.upon noticingthis problem i immediately took it into the dealer to have it fixed - to the tune of $1,500. I did a little research on the internet and found the following at the apa website:the apa website stated that the 1996 - 2000 models had rust perforation in the front strut towers (especially on the left side) in the area of the upper strut. It stated that the anchorage seems to stem from insufficient rust protection and the use of thin steel in this area.the mechanic who fixed the struts stated he has seen quite a few with this problem and wished more people would write in and complain.one particular customer was told not to drive his vehicle until he got it fixed as it was that bad. I contacted daimler chrysler corporation about the problem and they basically said there were no recalls for this particular problem. Ford recently recalled some vehicles for a little bit of rust problem on the side of the truck, which in my opinion was only a cosmetic type of problem.the rusted struts pose a potentially dangerous problem and could cause serious injuries or death. I do not have the old part but i do have photographs of them before they were fixed.i would appreciate your immediate attention to this matter.you are my last resort and i hope it will do some good.this problem did not cause an accident for me.however, it might be something to check into the next time there is an accident with one of these vehicles. I appreciate your time and hope it can make a little difference.thank you. Updated 07/17/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

About eight months after i owned my vehicle, the right front tire was showing excessive wear and was told to have the car aligned.the tires were rotated and the car aligned.these tires have a lot of treadeven tho they keeping wearing on the edges.i have my tires rotated according to the manual.in december 2000 i went to the goodyear people and they said one tire had three bubbles on it so i put the spare on.then he proceeded to tell me that all tires had bubbles and should be replaced as soon as possible. They want me to buy the same tire for $113. Each and they will give me a 25% discount, well i wouldn't buy that tire at any price.the massey dealer says it is up to goodyear.now i am afraid to drive the car with these tires on it.i feel that if a tire only lasts 28000 miles it should not be put on a new vehicle and certainly not sold at $113. A tire.(dot number: m6vf hkdrtiresize: p215/65r15)

Federal super steel tire 657, on the right rear, blew out at 70 miles an hour on the interstate, tread came apart, causing the van to spin around twice, into the median backwards, and smashed into the guardwire and support post. Broke the rear bumper, crushed in the tailgate, broke a tail light and crushed the metal below both tail lights. My wife and daughter were in the car at the time.tire had 30,000 miles on it, rotated as required and air pressure checked on all 4 tires in the morning of the day of the accident. Tire had only been on the car a year, but date of manufacture was 08 2004.blacks tire sold and installed the tire, wouldn't do crap about it, charged almost full price (pro rated, they claim), and tire manufacturer won't even comment or do anything about it.

Air bag light stays on and has since first purchased, horn has not worked for about 8 months, cruise control quit working 3 months ago. I have a 1999 plymouth grand voyager that had to have the clockspring repaired because the air bag warning light was on and the horn did not work. I come to find out that there was a recall for 1996-1998 models and because the problem has not been fixed i think they should extend the recall to include 1999 models as well.

Consumer complained aboutseveral problems. Recently, the air bag light came on/the odometer stopped reading mileage, and thehorn did not work. The cause ofthese problems had not been determined.

On two(2) occassions the speed sensor on this vehiclehas gone out. On both incidents the vehicles goes into a protective limp mode which does not allow the vehicle to go over 30mph. .

On 2 separate ocassions the speed sensors to the transmission stopped working and it put my 1999 plymouth voyager in limp mode and wouldn't allow my vehicle to go above 35mph. I has the sensors replaced at a cost of approx. $250 each time.the dealership admitted frequent problems with the sensors but said chrysler has not taken any action to consider it a recall item.

1999 plymouth grand voyager.vin [xxx].the subject vehicle has had a failure of the clock spring mechanism (according to the dealer).this has resulted in the failure of the air bag deployment (along with cruise control and horn).chrysler has admitted this problem exists (via recall) with 1996-1998 vehicles but will not fix 1999 vehicles.your web site exhibits numerous instance of this failure on 1999 vehicles. How do i go about getting a known problem with this failure to be acknowledged and fixed by chrysler?i consider this a serious safety issue that should be taken care of by chrysler regardless of auto mileage.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Clock spring was defective. The air bag light came and stayed on, making the air bags inoperable. Also, it effected the horn and the cruise control. Arecall was issued. However, this vehicle was not included due to vin.

The air bag light came on and would not turn off.also, the horn and cruise control were disabled.*sc

Driving home from minnesota to tennessee the horn and cruise contol stopped responding (clockspring failed) without a horn the vehicle will not allow the driver toalert others to avoid accidents. Vehicle has been parked until i can afford repairs.

Air bag light stays on, horn doesn't work, cruise control not working also.
