Airbag light comes on .horn and cruise controlare inoperable.

Air bag light on the dashboard came on/ cruise control, and horn would not work.dealer's service department investigated and determined that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. Clock spring was not under warranty, and it cost $538.71 for labor and parts to replacefailed clock spring.

Air bag light lit, indicating a problem with the driver's side airbag.horn quit working at the same time.cruise control is inoperative also.this represents a major safety issue - driving without the use of an airbag or horn.

Airbag light comes on, and horn fails at same time on an intermittent basis. Mechanic has advised that he has seen the same failure on other chrysler products recently. Mechanic claims that the wires for the airbag and horn are getting pinched somehow as they come up the steering wheel assembly, and through the device that allows the wires to turn with the steering wheel. Since there is no current recall, we will have this part replaced as it is a safety hazard to drive without a horn and airbag. We have a high mileage vehicle and perhaps this is the start of a problem with this vehicle or maybe this vehicle is a fluke. In any case, i thought you should be aware of the problem.

Intermittent airbag warning. Cruise control failed to disconnect using steering wheel controls. Dealer service shop identified faulty clock spring.

Chrysler knows very well that there is system failure in air bag "clock spring" in the steering wheel.nhtsa should ask chrysler for one simple piece of information:how many driver's side air bag "clock spring" replacement parts" are you selling?because chrysler is selling tens of thousands, it is clear to any idiot that there is a manufacturer's defect in this important safety device.chrysler has a similar problem with fuel tank sender device.they are all breaking.

The air bag light comes on indicating the air bag is not active, the interior dome lights have gone out.it appears as though there is a short.it has been into the dealer and they are unable to find the problem.this seems similar to a recall on the 1995 vans.the airbag makes this issue a concern to me, and the dealer can not find the problem.

Multipel failures of clock spring resulting in fail of airbag and horn.

Clockspring failure caused repeated failures of airbag, horn and cruise control.

The cruise control andhorn does not workdue to the clock spring. Please fill in additional information. Dealer is aware of the problem. Ph

Since approximately 10/01/99, while car is operated, airbag, cruise control, and other electric features controlled via wiring located in the steering column become inoperable, indicated by the trouble lights which come on, on dashboard.for about the past one year the airbags and cruise control have continuously been inactive/inoperable whenever the car is being operated.there appears to be a defect in the steering column wiring system, and recently heard of many other similar failures, ones the nhtsa is even aware of, although i can find no report of it on this web site in either recalls or complaints.i'm very frustrated and anxious about this because i cannot afford to have all this re-wiring work done, but feel plymouth should be responsible for a functioning airbag system at least.

Shortly after purchaseof vehicle airbag light came on, stayed on most of the time.

While drivingair bag light could come on unexpectedly and stay on for a few seconds. Then go off, and once again come on.

I read in the wall street journal, dated march 20, 2001, that the nhtsa is looking into a possible defect in the clockspring assembly in the plym voyager.i just wanted to inform you that i had to replace the air bag clockspring on my voyager mini van a few months ago.i was not in any immediate danger but the airbag light came on a stayed on when the trouble began.my mechanic determined that the air bag clockspring needed to be replaced for which i replaced.i do not know if this is relevent to your inquiry but i thought you should know.

The clock spring failed, three years ago and was repaired at consumer's expense.manufacturer's recall did not include this vehicle.due to vin.a month later, consumer received recall letter ,and was told to send a letter for reimbursement, even though the receipt was lost.dealerlost the records, and the manufacturer purged the records andconsumer could not be reimbursed.

Air bag light is on, the horn does not work and the speed control is inoperative.there are chrysler service bulletins on the clock spring wiring harness but no recall.this is a safety hazard (no horn, no airbag) and should be addressed by a recall.

Air bags are something that should not fail on a vehicle since it is government regulated safety equipment on a vehicle and it is a low wear item.my airbags have failed and chrysler expects me to pay to fix them.they have also tied the airbags into the horn and cruise control.i feel that since this is a safety related item, chrysler should be responsible for the repairs.if these bags fail to deploy or misfire due to their design, i and my passengers could be severely hurt or killed.

Air bag/ horn, and cruise controlwent out atsame time. Contacted dealer, dealer noted that clockspring was the problem.

Clockspring mechanism fails causing no cruise airbag light is lit and no horn. Mr

Airbag light came on, andcruise control/ horn were not working.consumer replacedcoil spring.dealership will be be notified.consumer states replacement of coil spring was $257.00

Air bag safety lightgoes on and off intermittently. Horn does not function when light is on. Confidence in airbag is suspect, but not clear to me what the repair responsibility would be. Does not seem like a normal consumable like tires, breaks or fuses but rather a design defect that should be corrected by chrysler.

This van was purchased off lease with 18000 miles and less than 1 year old.after 1 year the vehicle was out of warranty due to mileage (36000).the wipers would go on and off at will.the dealer replaced the battery for $100.00. The problem continued and eventually lights started to turn on in the interior of the vehicle on their own.the cruise control worked intermittantly.the air bag light came on intermittantly.the body control module was replaced.we didn't leave the dealership and the problem started again.the dealer ordered another body control module.it has been 3 and one half years and now the problems are starting again.the vehicle has stalled on several occassions.the horn does not work.the cruise control does not work.the air bag light is on continuously now.we do not have the $1000 dollars for replacement of the air bag.we understand that there are others with this same problem.is nhtsa going to make chrystler right these electrical problems.i have read about engine fires due to electrical shorts.it certainly appears that we are not the only ones experiencing electrical problems with our minivan.

Airbag readiness light came on and horn and cruise control stopped working simultaneously.cannot get complete ny state inspection without working horn!is this a recall item yet???

Not working are: airbag, horn and cruise control.

Consumerhad front end problems since purchase, noise mostly. While driving 55 mph there was a loud bang, vehicle beganstrut housing bracket that holds the stabiliser link broke off, causing it to cut into tire. No flat. While drivingcruise control light was always illuminating on dashboard.dealer was notified, mechanic statedclock spring was defective, causing cruise control to malfunction.

Airbag indicator light flashes off and on along with horn and cruise control not working at all.. The dealer info provided is from place of purchase . I now get my vehicle serviced at tate chrysler, 7535 ritchie hwy, glen burnie,md 21061, 410-761-1560. I have not discussed problem with them yet. Identified source of my problem via internet inquiry with technical service advisors and persons who have had same problem.

Our clock spring failure was evidenced by airbag light glowing continuously.......we were told that the airbags might or might not work in an accident, so we went ahead with the repair....the airbags had never been deployed or replaced during the life of the car......we wanted to be assured of safety if involved in an accident.........a news report about clockspring/airbag potential defects on plymouth minivans prompted our report today.

Consumer was starting vehicle and noticedair bag lightstayed on.also, triedhorn, andhorn would not operate.cruise control wouldnot engage when she attempted this at 40 mph. Dealership informed her that this was due to a breaking inclockspring.please provide any additional information/attachments.

The airbag light has been coming on intermittently.

During normal operation air bag lightwill illuminate/ cruise control will not function, andhornwould not work.dealership examinedvehicle and determined that clock spring was defective, and had to be replaced.please provide any additional information / documentation.

Air bag light would come on and off intermittently while driving.upon observation after noticed, no particular pattern seen related to driving conditions.did not realize importance of light (meaning probable air bag failure) until taken to dealer to be fixed.repairs were over $200.00.told the problem was in the "clockspring"when asked if this happened much, told a "few."this car required a new transmission at 50,000 miles.i am sendintg this notice in because i read in my local newspaperwith automotive news that you are doing a defect investigation about this topic.i don't know if car dealers are required to notify you of their repairs so i'm making sure my car is included in your count.

Air bag light keeps coming on. Would have electrical failure of horn, radio & windshield wipers.problem is intermittent.

The vehicles clock spring failed prior to recall notice.the consumer has requested reimbursement. The multi function switch also failed. The brake light illuminates on and off. The battery failed.*ph *nlm

The component failure was noticed by the airbag light coming on and the horn not working. A clicking noise could be heard in the steering column and since i did not know the potential severity of the problem requested the dealer to service it. I was not made aware that this part controlled the functional of the vehicles safety provisions like the air bag/ and horn.dt

Speed control and horn stopped working at apprximately the same time.the air bag light came on at approximately the same time. No accident or anything else unusual occurred that would have caused these to malfunction.

Dealer tells me that the clock spring has been recalled in earlier models, but not yet in the 1996.i understand this is not an uncommon problem in this car.

Apparently this is a common problem.airbag light on, horn and cruise control don't work.dealer charged me almost $350 to fix what it obviously a safety defect, given the number of people who are having this problem.

On brakes, had to replace the break drums and completebrake job. In december had to have complete r & r head gasket replaced. Had head replaced thermostat replaced and recall of clock spring, which i had to replace before i received recall notice.

Ea 01 007/air bag clockspring: problem with air bags light remain on while driving. Also, horn and the criuse control are inoperative. Dealer was not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.

Airbag light came on/criuse control stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly. At same time engine check light came on.dealer replaced oxygen sensor. Also, transmission went out at 10400 miles, and emergency brake had to be replaced 3 times.

The air bag light stayed on. As a result, the horn did not work. A recall for the clock spring was issued, however, this vehicle's year was not included.consumer statedvehicle was unable to pass inspection.

I have learned that an investigation is underway for the plymouth grand voyager driverside airbag problem.my airbag has done exactly what was described in the report.my airbag light has come on and my horn no longer works.

There was a recall regarding the clock spring, however no parts were available.

Airbag light on, no horn , no cruise control.wiper on itself sometimes when turning.door lock sometimes doesn't lock.

I have received a recall notice for a radiator fan relay, which is not mentioned on your site.today, i found a new leak of transmission fluid, the red lights are again flashing on and off, there are power surges in the control panels, the engine chokes and shudders.oh, and the a/c is out again.we won't even mention the windhield wipers which have continually gone on and off since we have owned this car, or the airbag alarms, or the incredible amount of money we have put into this maintained car.my 20,000 car has become a 40,000 lemon.there is simply no excuse for this, mileage or not. I have attempted to keep this car because i wanted a "safe" car for my teenagers to drive.now, it appears i have them driving the pinto of the 1990's. I thought i was keeping my kids safe!!when the engine failed, i had the car taken to an non dealer becuase i am fed up with their attitudes...what do you expect at 100,000 miles, etc.when the first diagnostic was ran on the car, a bewildering array of codes came up.after changing the spark plugs, all of the codes dissapeared.however, the electrical problems increased in intensity, and now i'm afraid my daugher will go up in a fireball.i already assume there will be no response from the manufacturer....i am going to consider a suit as i consider these cars dangerous!fuel leaks, static charge buildups?come on!

The cruise and air bag light stayed on continuously.the dealer stated the clock spring was the problem and the signals from the steering wheel were not being transmitted correctly.the clock spring was replaced at the consumers expense.the consumer requested a refund due to recall #b24.mrscc

My husband was driving our van, and he got into a fender bender and was only going 4 to 5 mph, and he lightly hit a pole due to sun glare, and it did not make a impact at all , and both air bags popped out, and i was injury badly. The dashboard that was covering the airbag flew off, and cut my head open, and the bag fractured my nose, and my whole top part of my body is sore and bruised. The air bags went off 30 seconds after the accident, and was very late. I could have been killed. My husband is bruised and very sore from the bag hitting him on the chest.

On saturday, feb 10, 2001, while pulling into my driveway, the air bag readiness indicator lamp came on.monday, feb 12, 2001 i called to make an appointment to bring my plymouth grand voyager se 1996 in to palmen motors in kenosha, wisconsin.on friday the 16th i brought the car in to have the problem diagnosed.i was told that the air bag module had failed and would need to be replaced at a cost of $1,008.30 + tax.i could not afford to make the repair at that time, but was told that the $73.85 i had paid for the diagnoses could be applied to te repair if i was to have the work done in 30 days.the following day saturday feb 17th while driving on the expressway i concluded that my horn and cruise control also did not work.i was suspisious that the diagnoses was incorrect, because of the additional problems.i then went to the net to see if i could get some answers.i found some one who had the exact same problem with a 1997 caravan.their problem was was the clock spring assembly.i was hesitant to go to the dealer with my find.how come they didn't get it righrt the first time???today i read an article in the newspaper that your administration was conducting an investigation into this exact problem.

During front end collision no deployment of driver and passenger air bags.

Dt:when startingvehicle the radio did notcome on , but the air bag light cameon and stayedon. However, and the dash boardlights did not come on. Had to restart the vehicle in order to get the radio to work, the air bag light to go off, and the dashboard lights to register. This happened onjune 2, 2005.

Driver's side airbag along with horn automatically disabled without incident (have not been involved in any accident or collision).i am concerned that such a safety feature disables randomly to include the disabling of the horn.any information that can be researched into this matter is greatly appreciated.i believe there is a trend in this manufacturer, as i am aware of another such owner experiencing the same problems.

Built in child safety seat locks up to the point of preventing child from exiting seat.

Built in child safety seats lock up when trying to release child.

Dealerships will not repair vehicle unless car is left with them.recall says it is one-hour repair.no transportation is provided.chrysler should bear all expenses of repair.also, door locks are still jamming after fourto five repairs.this repair was requested while van under warranty and service was refused.

We purchased our van used and i guess the original owners switched back seats with someone who had child restraints and chrysler says that ours is not covered under any recalls since they were not originals on the van.many times, these seats do not properly secure my kids in and i think they should be part of the recall, regardless.if they do not take care of the problem, when something does happen, i will have to contact my lawyer to contact them when there is a problem.i would appreciate any help in resolving this matter with chrysler or whoever else that i need to contact that can help me.

Recall not completed (3prior failures before recall) when i noted that the recall had not been completed to dealer they agreed & ordered parts to complete recall. I returned & got paperwork that stated the recall was complete. I let my toddler ride around for 3 weeks in the seat before i found the dealer had disengaged the locking mechanism for the integrated seat(seat belt would not engage in impact). When i confonted dealer they said they didn't know anything about it. When confronted with evidence they state they had ordered another set of parts to fix it but state they didn't know there was anything wrong with the integrated seat.they also said i was overreacting in that i was angry they let my child ride around with no working restraint. I immediately called chrysler corp who opened file & said a dist mgr would call me. A week later(today) no call. I called chrysler & they say the file is closed that the dm called the dealer who says they've handled it. Strange i havn't heard that. They want to "fix" it a 6th time. I don't trust their 6th time will be any better. Are others running around with incomplete recalls & are unaware? even the side that has a locking mechanism that works doesn't tighten on the children. I believe it is a faulty design. I would be glad to send you a video of the problem to help prove my allegations. Help. I bought the van for the integrated seats & now i hate it because of the integrated seats. I feel the kids are unsafe in them & pray for the babies whose parents have no idea. Thank you michelle mahood

Child seat failed prior to recall notice.

The built-in child restraint failed to release seat belt with 1 year old child inside.the more it was pulled, the tighter the mechanism wound, until the plastic shield was up around childs throat.owner was forced to cut the belt to release child.

This is the second time that this integrated child car seat has "locked up".it was replaced by the manufacturer the first time one month after we got the vehicle, and it is doing it again, which i find to be very dangerous for my son.we are forced to put a car seat into our car.i want this replaced by chrysler again at no charge, but they are unwilling to do so.

My 1996 plymouth grand voyager has had numerous, ongoing electrical problems.the wipers no longer work, the ignition frequently does not work.i have taken it in to a repair facility and they have replaced numerous parts and the problem still persists.they believe there is an electrical short in the steering column that they cannot locate.i have two other friends who also own chryslerproduct minivans and they are having the same problems.if this does not become the source of recall you can be sure that i and my friends will no longer be driving chrysler minivans in the future.timothy glesmannwindsor, colorado

I received batteries in 1999, 2000, & 2001 for the same van from the dealer because they all lost power. Now i need a new wiring harness for that van because acid from those batteries leaked into the current wiring harness which will cost me over $1000.the dealer has been doing the service on my van and i have not been informed of the problem of acid leaks into the wiring all of those years.in 2002 i bought a batery from kragen auto parts.i don't know why batteries in the van lose power and have to be replaced every year.van defect?possibly.now the dealer says that because there is so many miles on the van, they aren't responsible.but they must have know that there was something wrong since 1999.i have a 1996 plymouth grand voyager.i feel that the present milage has nothing to do with the battery problem that still exist with the van, and that the dealer was and still is well aware of this problem.

Battery failed. Mjs

Battery blew up when vehicle was stationary in process of starting. The vehicle was sitting in driveway and had been shut down for about 3 hours. The battery blew off part of the top with a large bang. If a person had been working on the engine they would have been injured. No fire occurred but smoke did appear. The vehicle was not abused or otherwise caused to be damaged by the driver prior to this happening. The battery has a chrysler p/n 4727258 and appears to be original. Advise if there is a need to save the battery for further checks by anyone.

Serpentine belt tensioner bolt sheared off, resulting in loss of power steering/ engine cooling/ and alternator function.very difficult to repair as to limited engine compartment clearance.

Engine shuts down repeatedly when decelerating; loss of power steering, brakes; may or may not restart immediately. O2 sensor, battery, ignition cables, belt drive & tensioner, 60k service, 3 service visits: problem still occurs, but less often. Twice, nearly lost control as ps & pbs failed in a turn; engine shuts down particularly while decelerating or braking, as in turns and at traffic lights. Worse when ac was on. Sounds to me as if an ignition controller shuts down under low voltage ("brown-out") conditions.

Airbag light comes on .horn and cruise controlare inoperable.

Clockspring failure caused repeated failures of airbag, horn and cruise control.

Airbag light stays on without prior warning, and there is no horn/ cruise control is also inoperative.

This is definitely a safety defect as the horn doesn't work at all!chrysler/plymouth says is isn't a safety defect.how can this be, when you can't use the horn, the air bag won't work.that's not a safety defect?!the average cost for this repair is $250 - ridiculous!chrysler to date has sold over 124,511 replacement parts for this clockspring assembly.i would say this is quite a profit for a defective part.again, i think this is definitely a safety defect and chrysler should recall it!i'm hoping you can help with this problem.thanks!

Air bag light lit, indicating a problem with the driver's side airbag.horn quit working at the same time.cruise control is inoperative also.this represents a major safety issue - driving without the use of an airbag or horn.

Airbag readiness light came on and horn and cruise control stopped working simultaneously.cannot get complete ny state inspection without working horn!is this a recall item yet???

Multipel failures of clock spring resulting in fail of airbag and horn.

Air bag light on the dashboard came on/ cruise control, and horn would not work.dealer's service department investigated and determined that the clock spring had failed and needed to be replaced. Clock spring was not under warranty, and it cost $538.71 for labor and parts to replacefailed clock spring.

Not working are: airbag, horn and cruise control.

The transmission and belt tensioner failed, the axle had broken, the horn, wipers, and cruise control failed.the a/c had gone out along with the condenser.there was fluid leakage in the power steering rack & pinion, the vehicle had gone dead. As a result the computer was replaced.the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repair costs.scc

The srs light stays illuminated while vehicle is in motion.horn assembly andcruise controlwere inoperable. Dealer has inspectedvehicle.

Air bag light is on, cruise control/hornnot working.dealer has been notified.please add additional information.

Airbag light had come on, also horn stopped working. Had clock spring assembly replaced.

Ea 01 007/air bag clockspring failure: vehicle air bag sensor light remains on while traveling, and horn is inoperative. Manufacturer notified.

Steering column clockspring failed rendered the driver side airbag and horn non-operational.-safety components failed. This is acommon occurrence for 1996 to 2000 chrysler minivans.please require a safety recall.

Srs light stayed illuminated whilevehicle was in motion, andhorn assembly/cruise control were inoperable. Dealer has replacedclock spring.

Air bag light stayed illuminated while driving. Alsocruise control and horn assembly were inoperable.dealer has repairedvehicle. Please provide further information.

Air bag light is on, the horn does not work and the speed control is inoperative.there are chrysler service bulletins on the clock spring wiring harness but no recall.this is a safety hazard (no horn, no airbag) and should be addressed by a recall.

Airbag light illuminated, andwhen consumer pressed horn it did not work. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealerstated that clockspring needed replacing.please provide any additional information.

Speed control and horn stopped working at apprximately the same time.the air bag light came on at approximately the same time. No accident or anything else unusual occurred that would have caused these to malfunction.

Dealer says "clock spring wire broken"horn and cruise control also inoperational.

Horn has failed to work on several occasions.mjs

Airbag light was on, andhorn/cruise control did not work.dealer replaced clock spring assembly.air bag and horn, the two safetydevices faile to work.

While traveling noticed air bag indicator light would stay on. Also, horn would not work. Dealer was contacted. Technician replaced clock spring. Please provide further information.

Ea 01 007/air bag clockspring:vehicle was having a problem withair bag light remaining on while driving, and horn would work intermittently. Dealer notified, and replaced clockspring.

During normal operation air bag lightwill illuminate/ cruise control will not function, andhornwould not work.dealership examinedvehicle and determined that clock spring was defective, and had to be replaced.please provide any additional information / documentation.

Srs light stays illuminated whilevehicle is in motion. Also, horn assembly and cruise control are inoperable.

Airbag light came on, andcruise control/ horn were not working.consumer replacedcoil spring.dealership will be be notified.consumer states replacement of coil spring was $257.00

Airbag light is on/ horn, and cruise control stopped working. Dealer determined clockspring assembly needed to be replaced.

Airbag light came on and horn stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly. On april 5 2001 dash went black, speedometer went to 0, at dealer at this time.

Apparently this is a common problem.airbag light on, horn and cruise control don't work.dealer charged me almost $350 to fix what it obviously a safety defect, given the number of people who are having this problem.

While driving around town, picked children up from school and parked vehicle.when consumerreturned vehicle would not start. Was told by the dealer that the igition rodwas broken.purchased the vehicle 17-jul-99.

While driving car intermittently stalled, once resulting in an accident, when stalling occurs all operations are non-functional,including the brakes.

Ignition frequently failed to start my minivan.after a few tries, it starts.i took the car to my dealer today, and they told me that i needed a new starter motor.the dealer fixed the starter at a cost of approximately $350.00.this is a common problem in all 1996 grand voyager models.why was there no recall from your office to have this problem fixed by chrysler at their expense?we shouldn't have to pay for the manufacturer's defective parts.please advise me on how i could get my money back from chrysler.in addition, i have a fuel pump problem in the same car; the dealer said the fuel pump was leaking, and fixed this problem at my expense.the cost was $200.00.our minivan is only 4 years old, and already there are so many problems with this car.why can't your office have these problems fixed by chrysler at their expense?please contact me as soon as possible.(e-mail: [email protected].

While driving, vehicle would stall for no apparent reason, at various speeds, the gauges drop to zero, look like vehicle was turned off. Taken vehicle to dealership several times & dealer can not locate problem on computer.

Van quit running as i was driving down the road, had to pull offside ofroad. Had lights and everything, it just won't kick over when you turn the key to start. Trys to start but won't.

My car keeps cutting off when i am on the highway.i've had everything done to it but it continues to cut off.i've had the catalytic converter replaced, a new fuel filter put on, a fuel injection service, etc.the problem is not coming up on the diagnostic test and frankly i feel that the car is defective.i will never by car manufactured by plymouth or any of its sister companies.this is truly ridiculous, and i hope this problem will be looked into further.

Engine stalled numerous times without warning after slowing from high speed.in each incident, stalling occurred while slowing after driving at highway speeds for extended periods (1 hr or more) during hot weather (80deg of higher).one incident involved stalling on i-95 during rush hour.traffic slowdown caused speed decrease from approx 60mph to approx 40mph when engine stalled suddenly and without warning.van was immediately put into neutral in attempt to restart while coasting.engine started right up but then stalled again immediately. Had to coast across two lanes of heavy traffic to get van off road. Waited several minutes to restart.engine restarted ok. Kept foot on gas to prevent restalling. After 2-3 minutes, engine ran fine again.latest incident involved engine stalled just after entering turn at approx 15-20mph. Van had been driven at high speeds (50-70 mph) for approx 2hrs prior to incident. Engine stalled suddenly and without warning, resulting in loss of steering.lack of steering nearly caused accident.allowed van to coast off road. Restarted and kept foot on gas pedal to prevent restalling. After several minutes, engine ran ok. Other incidents involved engine stalling while driving into parking lots after driving at highway speeds continuously for several hours. Three dealers have attempted to fix problem by replacing computer, fuel pump, battery, and fuel tank.also tried using premium unleaded gas,yet stalling still persists.incidents occurred approx 3-4 times/year.usually no fault codes indicated by computer when checked by dealer.

While driving, vehicle would stall for no apparent reason, at various speeds, the gauges dropped to zero, looked like vehicle was turned off. Taken vehicle to mechanic & hecould not locate the problem.

Engine shuts down installation of new pcm module did not rectify shut downs.

After being parked vehicle failed to restart.while driving vehicle stalled, did restart after waiting a few minutes.

About 5-6 weeks ago, the air bag warning light on the dashboard display went on, and it has been on continuously since then.2weeks ago we noticed that the cruise control wasn't working, and in the past week, the horn stopped working.we saw a notice of recall in the business section of the washington post, but we did not receive anything from daimler-chrysler.we contacted darcars of silver spring, md, and they told us that there was no recall for our model and year, and that the repair would cost about $225-$250.today, we did an internet search and learned of the widespread nature of the problem, and of daimler-chrysler's refusal to reimburse owners of vehicles such as ours for this acknowledged failure of a critical part.we do not have working air bags, horn or cruise control, and we urge you to expedite your investigation of this defect and widen the recall, requiring the manufacturer to reimburse us.dt

Minivan lost all power (first noticed power steering) while driving down highway.occurred first in june 1997 and they replaced the master switch (three days earlier they had replaced the multifunction switch because the windshield wipers came on on their own).the windshield wipers are coming on on their own again (intermittently) and we lost all power driving down the road again (9/20/99).was able to turn off into a parking lot however, without power steering - if this occurred on a busy highway or in the middle of a turn it could result in someone crashing into us.two months after they replaced the master switch they replaced the rack n pinion and steering shaft & coupling (8/4/97).we haven't had any more problems with the steering except when we lost all power.

Air bag light keeps coming on. Would have electrical failure of horn, radio & windshield wipers.problem is intermittent.

Turn signal intermittently works and smoke is coming from beneath the steering column when the turn signal is used.turn signal will delay up to 5 or more minutes before coming on.switch has been replaced 3-4 times, andproblem still exists. The dealer was notified.

Consumer is having problems with lights on the dashboard. Dealer was not contacted at the time of this call.

Please respond with detail(s) of previous complaints.thank you. No sa

Lights flash, bells chime, door locks activate repeatedly, dash gauges go dead very distracting and scary for my wife.

Electrical failure of the dash gauges/control panel due to short. Mjs

Complete failure of all dashboard gauges.chrysler and dealer unwilling to admit this is a wide spread problem with their mini-vans.

Various parts on the dashboard work intermittently, currently, engine stalled, and then it would start again. Consumer felt this was an electrical problem, and someone could be hurt.

Door lock failures:repeated failures required new mechanisms, also affected the fuel tank door. Transmission failure: occurred in parking lot fortunately.required $2200 in repair.dealer (hershberger motors in woodburn, or) failed to correctly seal the transmission.when returned to dealer for this, they broke the right bearing hub, another $400 to repair.body control module failure: wipers stopped working - an absolute necessity in oregon!bcm repaired by sending out existing unit by dealer (town & country chrysler, milwaukie, or).did not correct problem ($450 repair costs).presently in for correcitve action.signed - unhappy customer.

Reported steering problem in jul 98. Dealer said they were unable to duplicate failure.dealer was cutter chrysler jeep of waipahu.it has been a problem since purchasing the vehicle and seems to be getting worse.now the steering is locking-up (intermittently) when i go over a speed bump, causingloss of steering control.the windshield wiper problem was corrected by the same dealer on 24 jul 98 as a malfunctioned switch that was on recall and they replaced it as a goodwill repair because vehicle was out of warranty by mileage only.it once agian is failing intermittently.both of these i feel are traffic safety concerns that the manufacturer should research and correct immediately.the power distribution center i believe is intermittently shorting out and causing many small electrical problems like radio works, then doesn't, lights go on by themselves, and things like that.once again i feel that if left uncorrected this may also pose a potential traffic safety issue.all three failures i feel are based on vehicle production line problems that may be affecting many vehicles in the same manner.please advise on what to do.thank you for your time and effort on my issues and concerns.sincerely, louis c. Martinez.

Sub frame of van has cracked causing severe vibration.all motor mounts failed.my 1990 had similar problem.van is barley drivable and unsaleable.throw in two complete ac systems, two multi-function switches(looks like #3 is linings up), a clockspring(recall) and top it off with horrible service.loyalty should be a twp way street!! ts

Although we got our vehicle injune '96, we've had repeated electrical problems. The most serious were the dashboard lights failed several times, the electrical locks on the sliding doors failed several times, the windshield wipers failed seven times!!!, the radio was replaced, the water pump was replaced, the battery was replaced, the body module was replaced 20aug97, sliding doors had to be adjusted to open properly 07oct97 mileage 9502, power distribution center was replaced 11dec97 mileage 10360, had to hold turn signal stalk down to keep high beams on at night due to faulty muti-function switch on several occasions, heater hose had to be replaced 24feb99 mileage 18494.

Windshield wipers go off for no apparent reason.initially thought due to turn signal being engaged, but it doesn't matter.dome lights flicker in front when doors open and then go out for a lengthy time.

Engine would start and run a few seconds and then go dead. Engine would restart and run very rough for a few seconds and continue to go dead. Eventually engine would not start. Checked power at coil and there would be power for a second when switch was turned on and then auto shutdown relay clicks and power is lost to coil. Replaced crank sensor and put a computer from same model van in and still will not start. No codes on scan tool. There is fuel pressure on the fuel rail.

After having the water pump replaced for the third time, while driving home the pulley flew off of the water pump, went into the air, rendering the vehicle inoperable. The consumer was told that the water pump pulley was pressed on to the shaft.as a result of the pulley falling off there was a loss of power steering.*tc

Above are our major problems we recently had with our van. The most serious one that has to do with safety is the body work done to the left side strut tower due to rust - which also included the repair of the suspension. I reported this to daimlerchrysler under concern#11568602 asking them for financial assistance but they refused. We also had a transmission failure and air condion failure; howerver, these were fixed with no charge due warranty (below 100,000 miles), but the air conditioning failed again as noted above. Regarding other costs: these were for the front sway bar bushings and outer tie rod ends. I purhased this 1996 van in 11/12/1998 with an odometer reading of 53,841 miles.

Transmission pump, is out now, speckled paint on hood and top, sides, back, vibration in front end steering, loud noises, creaks and makes lots of noises, back door on right side will not lock or unlock.i need help with all of these problems.the items repaired was by a friend mechanic.

Over a year and 1/2, had multiple (at least 10) incidents of vehicle stalling while slowing down, at turns or traffic lights. Resulted in loss of power steering, brakes, and temporary loss of control onto next lane; luckily, no accidents. Multiple trips to plymouth dealership, all inspections and costly empirical repairs are fruitless, until ais (automatic idle speed) motor replaced (throttle body cleaned, also). The mechanic stated he had seen this problem in his own plymouth! this failure has not recurred in the 3 years since making the ais motor the likely cause of the problem. This is simply a follow-up, hopefully of some use to drivers and mechanics.*la

Abs pump went out

On brakes, had to replace the break drums and completebrake job. In december had to have complete r & r head gasket replaced. Had head replaced thermostat replaced and recall of clock spring, which i had to replace before i received recall notice.

Vehicle caught on fire while parked in a parking lot. Upon exiting the vehicle consumer noticed smoke, then flames coming from the engine compartment.fire department was called, and they extinguished the fire. The fire inspector indicated that the fire may have been caused by an oil leak, but they were not sure. Vehicle wastotaled.

While drivingat any mph engine will overheat without a prior warning.consumer had contacted dealer.please provide more information.

Water pump is leaking.*jg

Vehicle experiences stalling, consumer stated the vehicle stalled on a freeway, the water pump was replaced and there was an oil leak.

Engine cooling system continaully overheating, replacement of the belts, radiator cap and hoses have not rectified failures. Mjs

Serpentine belt tensioner bolt sheared off, resulting in loss of power steering/ engine cooling/ and alternator function.very difficult to repair as to limited engine compartment clearance.

Water pump failed resulting in leakage.

After refilling vehicle with oil many time had taken vehicle to dealer where they found out a leakage onbottom of the engine.please provide more information.

Vehicle lost all power when theserpentine belt sheared off completely. Vehicle started to smoke in addition, water pump leaking . Power steering pump pulley cracked.

Purchased voyager 2 yrs ago, dealer showed us he had rebuilt transmission 2 months earlier. After 2 years, i have replaced radiator, "cooling fan relay" x2, the transmission was rebuilt again, the cv joint broke and cracked the transmission case (after it was rebuilt), the radio went out, the ac is completely gone estimated @ $1800 to repair. Brakes are grabbing and/or soft.is this a "lemon"?

While driving, i heard this noisecoming from the engine compartment, before i could pull over, radiator started steaming. After letting engine cool, i noticed that the radiator cracked. The temperature guage did not alert me to anything. Radiator fans were not working.

Cooling fan relay failed causing battery to drain, recall for component however for the model year of 1998 only.

The engine overheated. Coolant had drained out of the radiator. The technician noticed the heater core hose return assembly had rusted.*

Engine thermostat failed.

Radiator fan would start working, and out of sudden, just stopped working, causing engine to overheat.had contacted dealer.please provide more information.

Due to the motor mounts being mounted sideways, the belt and pully behind the front right wheel causesloss of control of vehicle, especially in wet weather. When belt gets wet unexpectantly, the steering wheel could be whipped out of driver's hands uncontrolablly ,slipping lasts for 1 minute or more at a time. Consumer fells this is common in all of the mini van families, when making right turns. Needs a splash gaurd behind wheel to prevent water splashing.

Camshaft broke.

Vehicle lost power & loud sounds started coming from under vehicle. The ding noise frominside kept ringing althoughvehcle was shut off.battery had to be disconnected.dealersaid that they had to work on the serpentine belt before they could determine anything else was wrong. Bu tit had to be doneat consumer's cost. Warranty didn't cover this component.

Rocker arms replaced.

Head cylinder replaced.

The converter in the automatic transmission has blown up and almost caused an accident.the manufacterer also installed a piston incorrectly.

Valve train replaced.

While driving on highway travelling 65-70 mph all of sudden experienced loss of power.noticed oil light came on.had to coast down to the nearest exit ramp.contacted mechanic and was told that he had a broken engine piston.

While driving at various speeds vehicle stalled without warning. Dealer said this was an intermittent problem, and could not determine the cause of the problem.

Consumer stated that vehicle just cuts off when she is driving between 30mph and 50mph, and the brakes just will not stop vehicle.also theconsumer wants the dealer to pick up the van.

Upon driving at highway speeds of 70-80 mph, my van lost power suddenly. I was unable to steer because the engine cut off. It was a rapid speed decrease, i watched the tachometer drop in speed. I was in the fast lane and at a dead stop. A few minutes later i was able to restart the van and pull to the left shoulder of the freeway. I took it to a chrysler dealer and they pulled 2 codes from the van's onboard computer. However, they tell me that they cannot pinpoint the problem without it occurring again. The same thing happen 3 years ago, again i was on a road trip traveling 70-80 mph in hot weather and the van lost power. Upon reaching my destination, i took the van to a chrysler dealership, which at that time, could not pull any codes. After leaving the van for a week, i drove it back home. The van stopped twice, home is 400 miles from my destination. When i arrived home, i took the van to a local chrysler dealer, and they pulled a code that indicated a misfire in cylinder #5. They cleared the code (don't know why...), and they tried to duplicate the code. They could not.... The dealer charged me $50 and told me that since they could not duplicate the error code the car should be fine to drive again. Now, it happens again in the year 2003... Very concerned.*nlm

While driving at 20mph the crankshaft pully belt came off due to the metal breaking off/due to inferior metal.

Pulling out of parking lot across 2-way traffic, heard loud clunk, then transmission lost power.barely managed to pull off shoulder.no fwd or reverse.dealer states transmission needs replacement ($1957).since out of warranty, chrysler corp. Unwilling to help - claim to not be aware of transmission problems on this yr/make/model.also, dealer states vehicle leaking oil past cam shaft seals.replacement to cost $1200.have paid over $3000 on many other prior repairs on vehicle.

2 occurrences; while traveling hwy speeds, sudden loss of power, engine check light comes on.the dealer hasn't been able to figure it out.this is extremely dangerous since it's only done it at hwy speeds, 60 to 70mph.there is no warning for vehicles behind you and you have to get over to shoulder of the roadway with limited power.

This is an intermittent problem that chrysler so far refuses to fix.my van will at times stall when the weather is hot. It does this when i am not pressing the gas pedal while turning or coasting, for example. The dealer has only been able to duplicate the situation once and does not know what causes it so refused to "throw parts at it." it started when the van was in warranty, about 1 year old with fewer than 15,000 miles, and has continued happening every summer. I have gone through chrysler and their response is the same: "we will not throw parts at it." so, the problem remains. The vehicle has stalled on major highways and on rotaries and is very dangerous. I have to throw it in neutral while still moving in heavy traffic and restart it. I have recorded the problem with chrysler, but they have not done anything.

V-belt broke causing loss of power and drainage of engine fluids.

Serpentine belt shredded due to a mis-aligned pulley.

Serpentine belt failed due to incorrct pulley design, causing equipment shutdown, including water pump/alternator/power steering, etc.

I have two pages of detailed accounts of my serptine belt being shredded and breaking and tensioners going bad on my 96 plymouth grand voyager.please email or call me and i will be more than happy to provide you a mailed or faxed copy of all accounts, receipts, and details of my numerous visits to local and plymouth garages trying to fix these problems.i have owned the van for only 9 months but have already spent 2,000 dollars in repairs, towing expenses and parts.please provide any help possible in this matter. Thank you

Belts squeak in cold/damper weather.

The original serpentine belt shredded at 18,000 miles on 1/1/1999. The replacement serpentine belt shredded 6,000 miles later on 11/23/1999. The tensioner and belt were replaced and the belt shredded again 12,000 miles later on 4/14/2001.

Vehicle lost all power when theserpentine belt sheared off completely. Vehicle started to smoke in addition, water pump leaking . Power steering pump pulley cracked.

While stopped at stop sign, driver heard loud pop.driver pulled forward but unable to steer vehicle.bolt holding serpentine belt tensioner sheared off, dropping tensioner into engine compartment.vehicle towed to service station for repair.additional damage to flywheel discovered due to tensioner falling into moving engine parts.noted this problem in other nhtsa complaint reports on web.fortunately car was stopped at time of incident.bolts should not shear like this.

Cruise control locked and vehicle accelerated to the speed of 90 mph.the only way to stop the vehicle was to turn the ignition off.also, the serpentine belt fell off in the middle of the road.

While pulling into a shoppiing centersepentine belt tensionerthat bolts into the engine broke and fell off. Van was towed to dealership and corrected at owner's expense. Please provide any further details.

While driving the main belt that runs the alternator/water pump, breaks every two months, dealer replaced the belt and problem still exists.

Serpentine belt tensioner bolt sheared off, resulting in loss of power steering/ engine cooling/ and alternator function.very difficult to repair as to limited engine compartment clearance.

The fan belt and tensioner were replaced three timesin the last two years and need to be replaced again.the belt continued to make chirping noises therefore it was replaced again.

Serpentine belt and tensioner failed several times resulting in steering lock up.

The drive belt appears to be defective.if this is the case, the power steering could go out.occasionally, the power steering has locked up on me. The windshield wipers turn on whenever they want to.several friends said they have the same problem with the plymouth truck, voyagers or with the dodge truck, caravans.

I bought my 1996 used two winters ago and was told by the dealer that the ac worked (and it did blow cold air at the tiem, it was only 6: c outside!!)along came a hot day in june and no ac. I took it into a shop who pressure tested it, said it was ok and recharged it. It lasted 3 hours into our vacation. On my return they checked it out again and said these vans were known to have defected and leaky ac systems. They found a few small holes in the condenser. Summer was over so i let it sit until this summer where i replaced the condenser and took it back for another $150 pressure test and refill. This time it lasted 3 weeks and again died on our vacation. On my return he found more leaks around the compressor and said that the evaporator is also probably leaking because they do just that quite often on this type of van.so far i've invested $500 and have no ac. It would have been triple that but i found a reconditioned condenser and did the replacement myself. Now i'm told the compresser ($600 part and $200 labour) and the evaporator ($500 part and $500 labour) need to be replaced, plus another $150 test and refill. That puts me at almost $2500 to fix an ac system that every mechanic i talk to says is defective.what can i do???

Windshield wipers sometimes activate when turn signals are turned on. Mjs

The turn signal switch no longer operates, so driver cannot warn other drivers that she is turning.

Windshield wipers do not park properly, continue to operate when switch is turned off. Wipers come on when left and right turn signals are engaged and will not stop when turned off.

I have several friends with the same vehicle and the same problem(transmission ruined due to computer failure/malfunction. Also the master switch in these vehicles is faulty(that is the switch for windshield wipers/turn signal) that causes wipers to come on of their own accord. I am afraid to speculate on the problems that could arise if the turn signal portion was to malfunction as well.

December 96,consumer bought vehicle at hank martins warsaw mo. (816-438-5132) where it has been repaired 7-8 times, changing gas tanks and rollover valves each time. Whenever vehicle is driven for approx. 2-3 milesfumes begin to flow. When it is cooler weather fumes are worse; flow inside through vents,as well as through the window. Fumes are heavy when parking vehicle, filling the garage with gas smell.sometimes fumesenter into consumer's home . Ea-97002, is the opening investigation number.

Smell of gas after driving for about 20 min. Lead to a pop sound from under vehicle. Smoke filled the inside of the van and after i brought it to a stop on a median the vehicle was engulfed in flames before i managed to exit. After exiting the vehicle and having the fire put out soon on with use of a fire extinguisher i noticed the evap canister had dropped all of its charcoal. Possible that gas was being directed into this canister and when it popped the fumes and gas ignited from the exhaust system.

The contact owned a 1996 plymouth grand voyager. While driving in reverse approximately 1 mph he smelled an odor of gasoline and the vehicle engulfed into flames. The fire began underneath the hood of the vehicle.the fire department extinguished the flames.the vehicle was destroyed and towed to an insurance lot. The failure was not diagnosed and the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileages were 160,000.updated 01/14/11*lj

The van experienced brake failure while driving at 45 mph.the brake pedal went to the floor when it was applied.when this occurred, the vehicle failed to stop immediately, which resulted in extended stopping distance. The brake failure was caused by the rear brake cylinder bursting and leaking fluid. Also there was a gas smell within the cabin of the vehiclewhen the heat was on. The dealership indicated it was due to a fuel leak within the engine compartment.

1996 plymouth grand voyager had an engine fire due to a leaking fuel rail - investigation revealed the rail was under an open recall that was never fixed and i never received notice of it.

Bought mini van in 09-14-02, clockspring was broke paid to have fixed 10-12-02, found two recalls on vehicle that were never taken care of til i purchased same they recalled vans with less then 70,000 to fix clockspring but i paid myself and feel that it should be included in recall because it was like that already people buying used should have rights when it comes to recalls i'm single and my van cost me $7,500 right paying off nobody never contacted chrysler to let them know they no longer had van so it went from hand to hand til i bought it then i checked recalls and found two with gas line have three kidsteenagers that's why need van but don't need problems rear sliding door on passenger side will not open door once locks have been engaged to open are there recalls on this too and is it possible for company to give me history on this van for my knowledge of past owners. Fuel rail is leaking gas ontoengine.dealer has been contacted. There is a recall forproblem, but this vehicle is not covered due to vin.consumer's vehicle experienced the exact same problem as recall 00v268, however this vehicle was not covered under recall.

Fuel filter line failed causing fuel to leak from the line.

My 1996 plymouth grand voyager mini-van 3.3 liter v6 2 wheel drive broke down.apparently in the transport, loading, or unloading of the vehicle on my trailer, one of the muffler mounts became disconnected and the other muffler mount the bolt into the frame was pulled out.this caused the muffler and exhause to shift.i did not notice this prior to operation of the vehicle after performing the initial repairs that caused the breakdown (water pump / serpentine belt failures).the shift of the muffler caused my fuel line and gas tank to melt and devoloped leaks.the level in the gas tank was low enough that no gas was leaking; however, the fuel line was spraying gasoline on the underside of the vehicle and on the hot muffler.i consider myself fortunate that i did not have a fire in the event.i have yet to repair either of these leaks, and i intent to take photos prior to repairs.i did have to move the muffler to find the leaks, and that is the only work i have done at this time and i will not be driving the vehicle until the leaks are repaired.this could be applicable to other grand voyagers that pass over a large objects that could strike the muffler (i.e rocks, curbs, etc.)

Vehicle had been included onfuel leakage nhtsa recall 00 v 268 000/ and manufacturer's recall # 895 that stated fuel could leak fromunderhood fuel injection fuel rail, could result ina vehicle fire.

Noticed fuel leaking from fuel tank.after researching internet, etc. Found that there was a recall on the fuel rail.took to dealer for recall work on fuel rail.recall work had already been done on o-ring, etc.at dealer, mentioned leaking gas to dealer.informed that valve is leaking and a new tank would be required.after further research found that this problem exists for many, many others!leak only occurs when tank is at least 3/4 full and van is parked with the front on a downhill angle!chrysler must know of the problem?

Vehicle was on a slight slope with the front end slopping downward. Noticed fuel leaking onto ground from the area offuel tank. Had vehicle repaired previously under a recall in oct 2001 for same problem. Had taken vehicle to dealership. Mechanic indicated leakage is from a different location. It's on the intake hose of the fuel tank.

Nhtsa recall 00 v 268 000/manufacturers recall 895 concerning fuel leakage:fuel is leaking from the fuel rail onto the engine. Dealer contacted and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under that recall due to vin.

Consumer smelled a fuel odor.went to dealer, who stated that he noticed nothing wrong. Consumer then found out about recall on fuel rail. Called chrysler ,who informed consumerthat recall notice would be mailed in july 2001. Onmar 30, 2001 consumer filled fuel tank, and noticed fuel dripping from fuel rail.had vehicle repaired, chrysler told consumer they may reimburse her in july.

This van has had the fuel rail leak recall done to it however it has now developed a leak under their fix.their fix does not work - i have fuel running out over the top of the engine, valve cover and onto the exhaust.i found this on the recall web site:the fuel injection delivery system can leak fuel from some of the sealing o-rings or from hair line cracks in the thermostat fuel injection rail. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. 1,163,000 vehicles are affected by this recall.dealers will install a seal on the vehicle fuel rails to prevent external leakage of fuel from the fuel rail crossover tube, should the existing o-rings continue to degrade.their fix does not work, i took great detailed pictures to show your engineers.i just dropped off the van to get fixed, however their recall fix does not work.i am going to demand that they replace everything.*la

There are two problems which are occurring all the time:1.the van smells of gas every once in while.there have been a couple of recalls regarding this matter and they have been performed on the van.still the fuel smell is there.have written to chrysler, they only have one answer for this: you have exceeded the mileage requirement for warranty.i think this is a safety issue and chrysler should take care of it.why do they have to wait for somebody to get hurt before they will pay up?please help.2.windshield wipers:these have been a problem since i bought the van.they come on intermittently.sometimes they come on when i am using turn signal, turning on radio, or just driving.then there are times when the various speeds stop working, and the wipers only work at high speeds.warranty work was performed a few times during warranty period.since then, last fall the wipers stopped working completely.took it to the dealer, they changed the body module unit and it cost me $650 to fix it.it worked fine for a month but since then the wipers are doing the same things as mentioned earlier, except they haven't died yet.once again chrysler gives me a standard response.they know wipers are a problem, and they won't fix them.

Poor design offuel tankwhich was builtunder /against the floorboardin the middle of the vehicle where gravel and road debrisis rubbing, causing a hole in the plastic tank.

Filled the tank with fuel the night before. Next day noticed odor. Checked vehicle & saw a large puddle beneath vehicle. Fuel gauge indicated a loss of fuel. Took vehicle to dealer & was told not it was not their faultthat fuel leaked out. Mechanic checked fuel tank & noticed leak coming from seam at top of fuel tank. Parts would be ordered for fuel tank.

I smell gas leak every time i fill ep upfull tank for last several months.in the morning, the gas smell is particularly strong and i look around. I found gas is dripping down to the ground from the fuel tank. This is a 96 van with only 29000 miles on it.i like to find that if it's problem reported by the manufacturer.

While driving vehicle one of the bolts that holds the fuel tank came loose and fell out. When owner took vehicle to dealers she was told that none of the bolts that hold fuel tank in place had locking washers.

Plastic manufactured fuel tank has developed a crack, and is leaking badly. Dealer has been contacted. The dealer blames the manufacturer for defective design but the manufacture blames the dealer for poor installation.fuel tank cracked due to incorrect instalation.

While travelingthere was a gas smell inside of vehicle.also, gas was leaking. Dealer has repaired vehicle, butproblem has returned.please provide further information.

Fuel tank was leaking all over driveway and garage. Took to dealership which could not find the problem.took to a locally owned garage which said the fuel strap was cutting into the tank.tank was replaced at a cost of $493. Major concern with leaking gasoline into my garage which also contains a gas water heater which could have ignited my home.

After making stops consumer could smell a fuel smell. Had vehicle serviced, technician could not find cause.consumer noticed fuel pouring out of fuel tank while vehicle was parked in driveway down hill. Fuel tank was leaking from seam near the top of the tank, dealer replaced the tank.

Fuel gauge light keeps going off with a full or 1/2 fullgas tank. Also when putting vehicle in reverse, a hard knockwould appear in front of vehicle . Dealer notified, and unable to locate/correct the problem.

Despite several dealership "fixes" gas tank shifts and thumps when accelerating or stopping sharply.all electric door locks had to be replaced due to electrical "vibration"-type noises when activating.rear brakes have "hummed" when lightly braking since new.problem evolved into surging.needed a complete brake job at 40,000 miles due, i believe, to lack of dealership fix before hand.

Consumerhad front end problems since purchase, noise mostly. While driving 55 mph there was a loud bang, vehicle beganstrut housing bracket that holds the stabiliser link broke off, causing it to cut into tire. No flat. Struts had been replaced twice prior to this . Stuts have been replaced a total of six times as well as frontcoil spring, also when gas tank was full it leaked onto the ground fuel tank was replaced, steering makes a noise when turning, suspension makes a lot of noise, wheel bearing msking a nosie, rack and pinion was replaced, vehicle pulls to right, swayarlinks were replaced, clock spring was replaced, when a/c is on the compressor engages loud sound, windshield falling apart, rotors were replaced, intermittenly wipers turn on by themselves, engine makes a sever noise, stabilizer bar broke.

Dear officer, i am writing this complaint with deep frustration and stress. Gas fuel tank is suppose to be built to last. It is not a weary type ofcomponent. The problem posses serious and fatal safety issue to our family and others who drive such vehicle. Why should owner be responsible for original mfg. Defect. Problem: fuel gas tank leaks on the seam line. Fuel odor presents around the vehicle. Appear as original mfg. Defect on fuel gas tank. Have taken photo pictures and asked dealer to saveoriginal defect fuel tank as evidence.please contact us immediately for update. Sincerely.wayne hu and she wang

The fuel tank on this van leaks when tank is full or close to full.i have noticed that fuel will drip from the top of the tank when parked and a strong odor when stopping after driving.i have been told that dodge has had recalls on this, also consumer reports issue jan 2000 has listed a recall on this problem.i contacted chrysler/plymouth and they are unaware of any recall for this problem.

Nhtsa recall#00-v-268-000. Consumer received the recall letterbeginning ofmarch.dealer doesn't know when the part will be available.

Fuel tank leaks.gas puddles on the ground and can smell fumes in the van.one chrysler dealer told me it was the rollover valve in the tank, another said it was the filler tube.chrysler refuses to fix the problem at their cost.

The problem with the gas tank is that when i fill the tank up gas starts spilling on the ground. It is leaking from the top of the tank next to the cab of the van. I know there was a fuel pump gasket or some other kind of recall about the tanks on 96 vans and i think it is the same problem. Can you check into this please. I asked the local dealer to check the vin number for recalls and the fuel tank problem was not for my van. Can you check into this problem and see if there should be a recall for my van also?. Thanks.

Gas tank has a crack at the top, resulting inleaking fuel when tank is full.

When i took vehicle into the local plymouth dealer to have the problem looked at, the service manager commented that this was the third gas tank that had to be replaced in the past two weeks.the gas tank on our minivan developed a crack and the gasoline would leak out onto the driveway and also would fill the occupant area with gas fumes.i do not believe that i caused this gas tank failure -- i would like to you look into the possibility of a recall.

Fuel tank was leaking fumes thru-out the vehicle.

A hole has developed in the top of the fuel tank, resulting in fuel leakage.alsofuel smells throughout entire vehicle, cause unknown.please give any further details.

When filling up gas tankit leaks from the top of the tank, and there is also a strong odor of gas fumes coming into the van. The tank is being repaired. Was told by dealer that the part is on a national back order.

Fuel leaks out of the fuel tank.

If the recall for the fuel leakwas suppose to begin in september 1999, why it is that this isjanuary 2000 and still no recall on my vehicle. Talked to my chrysler dealer today and they said that they haven't heard anything about this recall.thank you for your time.

Fuel tank failure.

After the technician brought to the consumer attention, that he smelled gas, they took the vehicle to dealer.dealer determined the fuel tank vent lines were full of gas and the rear gas tank vent and canister was leaking, therefore recommended a new fuel tank. But they declined the fuel tank replacement at this time. Consumer stated that, since there have been two recalls on this fuel tank already, #665 and#845, consumer feels this recent problem is coincidental with the recall #845, and that the tank might be defective.*yd

Fuel tank has developed a leak around the seams. Dealer replaced the fuel tank.please give any further details.

The driver noticed gas under neath the vehicle after filling up because the fuel tank was leaking. Yh

Can smell fumes inside of vehicle after putting fuel into the tank. If the tank was full, the fuel would leak out. Took to dealer & mechanic could not locate cause of the leakage. Has happened at least 8 times & problem not solved. Took it back again & mechanic informed owner the entire fuel tank assembly needed to be replaced.

The gas tank imploded, causing the tank to hold 13 gallons instead of 20.

Fuel tank leaks fuel.consumer tookvehicle to dealer, anddealer replaced gas tank. Vehicle was taken to the dealer 5 months prior totank leaking for other problems, and at that timetank was leaking a small amount of fuel. After the 5 monthsgastank was pouring gas out.currently, dealer does not want to admit thatgas tank was part of the recall that was issued before vehicle was taken in.

Fuel tank is leaking gas. The tank has been replaced at consumer's expense. Dealers are aware of the problem and cannot duplicate the problem.

Fuel tank leakage causing fumes. Mjs

Consumer states fuel can be smelled inside the vehicle, the service department stated that some fuel pumps allow the fumes to gather under the body cavity and enter the vehicle through the heating and cooling system, consumer feels this is a bad design as well as a safety issue.

While the front transmission seal was being replaced, the mechanic warned me about the gas tank leaking gasoline. No visable puncture holes can be seen and the leak appears to come from the seem of the tank. He said this does not appear to be from normal wear and tear and to not drive the vehicle until repaired due to danger of explosion and/or fire.when michael stead chrysler dealership in walnut creek was contacted, i was told on the phone there is no recall on the leaking gas tanks and that the leak is notrelated to the other recall on our gas tank assembly.we have also experienced the windshield wipers randomly comming on while driving. We had the switch replaced but the problem continues. Autoworld dealership told us that the manufacturer for the wipers has not made a replacement part to fix the problem and that if it was replaced we would just have the same problem.

Fuel tank warped. Mjs

Seam failed on top of gas tank and allowed gastoleaks out when tank was full. This condition poses a major fire hazard.manufacturer agreed to pay for the tank, but not for the labor to install the tank.

Fuel was leaking from the fuel tank due to corrosion.dealer has replaced the fuel tank.

Fuel tank collapsed. Mjs

When braking, the driver starts to smell gasoline. Vehicle was taken to dealership & was informed by mechanic the fuel tank was cracked & was not under warranty.

Gas tank cracked resulting in smell of gasoline.

While traveling along the freeway at approximately 60 mph, i struck a piece of metal debris.upon arrival at my home 5 minutes later, i smelled fuel and observed that the fuel tank was ruptured.i took a photo of the leaking fuel tank, which i am able to forward via the internet as a file.jpg if desirable.

Fuel tank is leaking after vehicle was rear ended.the damage to the vehicle was minor and should not have cracked the tank.

While filling up vehicle it started leaking gas, just like it did back in mar.2000 when it was taken in forrecall on fuel tank. Tookvehicle to dealer, and they said it had nothing to do with recall, and that tank broke and needed to be replaced.

Following recall of fuel pump o ring we noticed a stong gas odor following each filling of the tank to capacity. Thought it was just from overflow. Finally took to dealer. Dealer reported vent breather tube cracked on top of tank. Had to replace entire tank due to the tube being molded into the tank. I agreed to have tank replaced, and then kept the old tank. Checked top of tank and could see that leakage occured, but not how. Vent tube was removable contradictory to what dealer stated. Tube not cracked. I filled tank and tipped it to put pressure on the vent tube. No leakage occurred. I'm worried that the problem wasn't fixed by replacing the tank. Now there is a new recall on fuel rail system. Mechanic at dealership said the new tank had a redesigned vent system on the top of the tank. I was charghed $789 to replace tank when tank wasn't the problem, and the dealers explanation of what was damaged was incorrect. It appears to me that there must be a problem with the vent tube seal, although it isn't apparent, or there is a lot of pressure building in the system somewhere, which causes it to flow out of vent to tank connection, although i couldn't get it to leak. If the new tank had a redesigned vent system, that tells me the previous vent system was faulty. Am i responsible for replacement if it was obviously a known problem? please advise what i should do. I'm worried with the new recall that the car may still not be safe.the dealer did not check the fuel rail system of this vehicle before i paid for the new tank on november 1.thanks for your help!

Thedefective design of the fuel tank filler tube, causes the fuel to leak whichmay result in a fire.

The gas cap cover brokewhen the nozzle hit it.the hose would get coiled up.ts *jg

Recall 96v002 was completed, however consumer repeatedly had problems after recall repair, dealer found a leak at the rollover valve and recommended that consumer replace the tank which would not be covered in the recall.

There is a fuel leak at the interface fuel pump module, causing the fuel to leak into the engine. Fuel tank cap/seal has been replaced. Also, fuel vent was leaking.

Consumer states that there is gas fuems in the cab of vehicle.consumer also noticed puddle of gas under the car. Took to dealer and they refused to fix problem with out charging consumer.consumer has a problem with the dealer not responding. Mr

While traveling on turnpike, vehice pulled up informed fuel tank leaking gas, gas sprayed onto windshield of oncoming vehicle, checked, whole underside covered with fuel, tank replaced at time of purchase, repaired 5/14/96 under recall.

Affected component:body control modulethe bcm controls the following:wipers, fuel pump, vehicle power and much more.during a rainy day in oregon ciry oregon, the bcm failed.the car was moving into a parking lot at less than 20 mph.in the parking lot was a police vehicle.when the bcm failed, the vehicle lost fuel pressure and therefore engine power then power braking, power steering and the wiper control went erradic. I managed to get the vehicle stopped, narrowly missing the police vehicle.i had no power brakes, no power steering, and the wipers stopped.the bcm was to blame.had this occurred at highway speeds, i don't like to think what may have happened!!!

While driving at any speed (around 65 miles) my vehicle suddenly shutdown without warning due to fuel pump.i haven't fixed yet. And it has a electrical problems too.

Several items:no interior lights fuse is ok, psngr armrest fell off, windshield wipers occasionally cycle on their own.

Door lock failure/ handle release does not engage from inside vehicle. Mjs

Passenger's side door comes open and latch does not lock.

I have been a plymouth minivan owner since 1989, and our latest one (1996 has given us alot of enjoyment, but not without a 1and 1/2 inch thick repair file that started the very first month we bought it.recently i just experienced my 5th failure of a sliding door, automatic lock mechanism and would like to know why a recall or dsb has not been issued.two (2) locks were replaced under the one year or 12k mile warranty and three(3) were not. Along with all the other problems i've experienced with this vehicle, this has curred me from ever buying another chrysler product, (even though i do like the dodge trucks.

Dealerships will not repair vehicle unless car is left with them.recall says it is one-hour repair.no transportation is provided.chrysler should bear all expenses of repair.also, door locks are still jamming after fourto five repairs.this repair was requested while van under warranty and service was refused.

While driving about any speed sliding door could open without a prior warning.consumer had taken vehicle to dealer four times for repairs.

Sliding door failure; sliding door latch does not always open door, sometimes not always closed as intended, door opens, light indicator comes on with door closed, makes rattling noise as if opened.

Driver's side sliding door locking mechanism failed. Would not unlock to released door for opening.not ableto unlock door with remote control, but can lock it. Currently, experiencingproblem onpassenger's side sliding door.

The windshield wipers go on whenever they want to, and the windshield wiper speed varies when set on low or medium, this has been a problem since the day we purchsed this car.the windshield wiper switch has been replaced 3 times.2 times the car was under warranty this last replacement chrysler paid for the part as goodwill, and the dealer charged me $68.00. The wiper speed still varies (the problem has not been fixed).we have also had the weather stripping replaced 3 times and it is still falling off.the blower motor for the fan does not work on all speeds the fan motor was replaced once under warranty and again on 11/24 for which chrysler paid for the parts and the dealer charged me $102.00.both sliding doors can not be opened from the inside.the door latches have been replaced 6 times, 5 times under warranty, and the last time on 11/24 chrysler paid for the parts as goodwill and the dealer charged $102.there has been other repair work done to the sliding doors in total my car has been serviced 23 times.alltogether it has cost me $352 to fix things that have been wrong since day one and that other voyager owners also seem to have the same problem with.

Sliding door lock/latch fail.ure, unable to open door.

Passenger's side sliding door latch failure, the latch was replaced once and consumer is unable to open the door.

Airbag light came on/criuse control stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly. At same time engine check light came on.dealer replaced oxygen sensor. Also, transmission went out at 10400 miles, and emergency brake had to be replaced 3 times.

Automatic transmission failed at the above mileage. The van will shift from first to second, then stays locked in second gear. Further acceleration results in higher rpm with no attachment to a gear.(like you are in neutral). Car is currently in the repair shop waiting an estimate as to repair.

Abs, speedometer, odometer, tripmeter failure and vehilce fails to start.

While driving uphill the transmission will decelerated even when the consumers foot was on the accelerator.it also became hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer notified. *nlm

I bought my mini-van in 1999 with 68,000 miles on it, after looking through the paper work that came with the vehicle i learned that the transmission had been overhaulded by the dealership at 36,000 miles. In 2001 i had about 84,000 miles when the transmission failed again, it cost me $1800.00 to have it re-built. Now i have 142,000 miles on it and the transmission has gone out again and i am looking at either replacing the transmission with a re-built one from chrysler which is $1699.00 just for the transmission not including labor, or $1800.00 - $2200.00 for a overhaul. If these transmission have such a problem why aren't they being recalled?

The transmission and belt tensioner failed, the axle had broken, the horn, wipers, and cruise control failed.the a/c had gone out along with the condenser.there was fluid leakage in the power steering rack & pinion, the vehicle had gone dead. As a result the computer was replaced.the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repair costs.scc

While traveling at about 50 mph, the transmission failed with a very loud noise and dumped transmission fluid onto the roadway.apparently, a pin in the differential had come loose and destroyed the housing and most internal components.i understand that this is a common problem with chrysler mini van transmissions.chrysler has charged me over $2500 for a replacement unit since they will not take the old unit as a ?core?.this should not happen with only 70,000 miles on the car.chrysler needs to recall these units and admit they have a serious problem with this vehicle.

Consumer concerned about possible odometer fraud (rollback).nlm

Transmission failed.

Transmission pump, is out now, speckled paint on hood and top, sides, back, vibration in front end steering, loud noises, creaks and makes lots of noises, back door on right side will not lock or unlock.i need help with all of these problems.the items repaired was by a friend mechanic.

Airbag light came on and horn stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly. On april 5 2001 dash went black, speedometer went to 0, at dealer at this time.

Auto transmission failure? couple of times my van hesitated to drive when i put gear in drive position . Today, it happened again and after itstarted to move, it did not go faster than 35 miles speed. My van is only 5 years old and this should not suppose to happen to any major components. Please advise if this is common problem with all1996 voyegers. Do many owners have same complaints? i have friends told me that this a common problem of automatic transimmision with all 1996 models. If that is so than chrysler should fix it without charge to me.is there any secret warrantyor good wili policy or service campaign exists?please advise soon. Also many times, transmission indicator does not show the positon of d or rwhen shifted to d or r position. All positons stay lit. So its difficult to judge if you are in drive or reverse position. Also the cylinoid makes loude noise. I told many times to dealer during warranty period and they told me that is normal. But i don't think so. I have checked other same model and their cylinoid don't make that kind of noise.what are the facts?

When at the shopping center parking lot traveling at 5 mph transmission went out, and wheels locked up.contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do assist.

2nd time the transmission died, lasted 2 months this time.

Transmission experienced erratic shifting, a hard clunking sound was heard when taking it out of park, dealer found the transmission was leaking.

Originally noted the reverse gear had a delay when purchased new, but was told it was normal.while driving home from airport car slowed and appeared to lack power (clutch slippage), 2 miles later upon deceleration and accecleration heard a grinding sound and noted a sluggish forward motion.made it back to home and shut car down (nite time). Restarted car in morning and noted that car would not back out of garage, also tried putting car in nuetral, but care would not move (appears to be stuck in a gear).vehicle currently unmovable.contacted manufacture and requested assistance with parts (i would pay for labor), but the reps (more than one) i talked with said that they decline to provide any assistance.they also told me that their word was final and that it would be useless to ask to talk to anyone else.since i am in the military they refered me to military sales and service(they said that i might try arbritration). I have many of the same problems listed in the other 72 grand voyager complaints.first the driver side drive shaft failed, which is unheard of and clearly a defective part.a few weeks later the transmission failed.in the process of self destruction, an internal piece of the transmission produce a large hole in the transmission housing.it is not uncommon for the housing to be damaged when the transmission fails.in fact, due to demand, chrysler is now charging almost as much for the housing as they are for the rebuilt transmission.due to the large number of defective vans on the market, chrysler is resisting a recall and any assistance.after all daimler/ chrysler has much larger unethical issues to deal with, such as a federal investigation into price fixing.the $7.50/ hr. Minions on the help line are worthless.the only hope we have is to get the nhtsa to recall these rolling pieces of garbage, and to stop buying chryslers product.

Prior to transmission failure car had been on highway at 65 mph with carload of kids on way home from a swim meet.only off the freeway for 5 minutes and stopped to let a child out of car.transmission "died" when attempted to go forward from having stopped in "drive" with brake on for passenger drop-off.i am so lucky this didn't happen on the freeway-it could have had terrible consequences!!!how can a car used for two years, five months with 52,000 miles need a new transmission??we had the car repaired at dealer.after car returned something in shifting seemed slightly different but unable to define problem as it was "vague" symptom.on 02/15/99(3 weeks later) i attempted to park car in driveway at home after driving and was unable to shift from drive to park-shift lever wouldn't move, finally went down to 3rd.had car towed to dealer and told shift cable was now broken.dealer claims this was not due to prior transmission service.car returned on 02/19/99.shifting lever now seemed slightly loose!!on 02/24/99 car returned to dealer again because shift lever now very loose and shifting gears on speed bumps-ie. Going from drive to neutral after bumps in school parking lot!!car again serviced on 02/24/99 and now seems ok.total bills for service over $2000.

Transmission slipping.nlm

Transmission made a loud bang and then the car would not accellerate, and the transmission dumped all the oil on the road.

I think it is awful to replace a transmission at 50,000, something is just not right!there should be a recall if others have experienced this!

While traveling at about 50 mph, the transmission failed with a very loud noise and dumped transmission fluid onto the roadway.apparently, a pin in the differential had come loose and destroyed the housing and most internal components.chrysler has charged me over $2500 for a replacement unit since they will not take the old unit as a core.this should not happen with only 70,000 miles on the car.chrysler needs to recall these units and admit they have a serious problem with this vehicle.

Vehicle can be placed into gear without applying the brakes first. Dealer has been contacted.

While at a speed of approximately 25 mph the automatic transmission dropped out of gear and the vehicle began coasting in k-mart store parking lot.i pulled the mini-van over to a parking space in the lot.after shutting the vehicle off, i restarted it and tried to engage the transmission in reverse, but failed.i then shut the vehicle off and had it towed to the dealer.

Was traveling about 40mph when, without warning, the transmissionsuddenly died/stalled out. Coasted vehicle to side of road. Had vehicle towed to dealership.

Transmission had 65,000 miles on it and it had to be replaced.consumer has not taken it to the dealer.has personal mechanicand trusted him to do work.it was making a clickingand jerking noise. *ml

Transmission is inoperative when engaging the vehicle, dealer replaced broken weld on a gear.problem still occurs.dealer cannot determine the problem.

Transmission has a hole in it.

Automatic transmission has failed and had to be replaced three times in one year. The last time the service shop blamed the failure on the crank shaft damaged the transmission thus causing it to break.*la

Transmission failed causing vehicle to down shift and up shift uncontrollably.

Transmission needs to be replaced secondtime.

Transmission failed. Mjs

While driving, transmission jumped out of place & would not shift gears-had to rebuild & problem still not fixed, air conditioner completely went out had to replace whole system. Independent front torsion bar- front sway bars broke at bolts-upper strut bearings damaged-completely replaced.very dissapointed in this vehicle< not safe to travel with children in it!!

There is no heat or air conditioning coming through the vents. Vehicle was hesitating, and thegears were slipping. Dealershipwas aware ofproblem.

Final drive gear failed, pieces of gear put two holes in transmission case.had to buy new transmission and couldn't get $500 core charge back because case was damaged.

Told dealer of problem . Said if doesnt do it all the time hard to tell theres a problem . He told me to bring it in so we can test drive van.when it first wouldnt go when i put it in gear , took it to dealer . Service man said to make sure you have transmission fluid . Of coure only had van about a month when happened , which i stated. He said sometimes they forget to check all fluid levels.

The transmission just died.luckily,we made it to our work parking lot and weren't stranded in a heavy traffic situation or in a snowstorm.total cost of repair estimated at $1900. Environmental hazard of leaking oil when transmission case also cracks.coincidence???: my boss just informed me today that his 1996 chrysler product mini-van with less miles than mine had a similar transmission problem some time ago. I believe the chrysler product mini-van transmissions are junk and chrysler knows it,but the transmission defect only causes a true "safety" hazard when it breaks in a situation where continuing speed is necessary (like passing).obviously, the transmission oilgetting dumped on the streets when the transmission case cracks isn't good.but again, why would chrysler care about a little oil?

While shiftingfrom park to drive vehicledid not move.consumer had vehicle parked for two months, andstated that the vehicle would be towed in the near future to the dealer for analysis.

Transmission had to be replaced because pump intransmission stopped working andvehicle was difficult to put into gear. Contacted dealer.

While driving athighway speed transmission lost power, forcing consumer off the road.

While driving heard a noise fromtransmission, vehicle lost power then transmission was stuck in one gear.took vehicle to dealer, and they said that problem wastransmission sensor and had to be replaced.please provide more information.

Transmission failed at 86000 miles, windshield wiper problems, a/c failed 5 times in the last 4 years

The transmission failed without any hint of a problem suddenly and completely.i was stranded on a busy road with a sick child who had just come from the hospital after having surgery.thankfully, noone was hurt, but the outcome could have been much much worse.research indicates that chrylser transmissions are notoriously bad and i do not believe that a well maintained, light duty van should have a complete and sudden transmission failure at only 51,000 miles.neither the dealer nor chrysler believe this problem to be unusual.it is interesting to note that chrysler now offers a 7 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

While traveling onhighway and without prior warning metal parts attached to transmission came apart, and fellonto the ground.

While consumer was drivingtransmission jumped out of place. It jumped into neutral, theninto second gear.contacted dealer, anddealerwas not willing to do anything.the dealer indicated that the transmission problem was not uncommon for these types of vehicle.

While driving the vehicle at 45 mph, transmission failed without any warning at 70,000.vehicle was taken to the independent shop who determined thetransmission leaked fluid.the mechanic determined that the transmission had to be replaced at the owner expense of $2.800.*lathe vehicle has not been repair due to the cost of replacing the transmission. The consumer request financial assistance to have the vehicle repaired.

Airbag light came on/criuse control stopped working. Dealer replaced clock spring assembly. At same time engine check light came on.dealer replaced oxygen sensor. Also, transmission went out at 10400 miles, and emergency brake had to be replaced 3 times.

Transmission stayed in second gear, even when accelerating.consumer states transmission also slipped, transmission was rebuilt due to internal contamination.

We had the transmission rebuilt at 62,000 mile - broke again at 47,000 miles later.

My wife was driving our kids on the highway at 65 mph when the van suddenly shifted into second gear.this nearly caused a huge accident.i then find that the transmission needed replacement.i researched this problem and found that this is not a unique problem by any means.chrysler is aware of this problem, and has not made any significant changes to their transmission.this "safe mode" where the transmission goes to second gear is made to allow the driver to drive to a safe place.if chrysler can't make a more durable transmission, they should be able to at least make the "safe mode" go to nuetral instead of second gear at high speeds.on a more sad note, $2,400.00 later for a rebuilt transmission(the best price i could find), i found out the the van isn't worth much more than that anyway.too bad, because i actually like the van and how it works for our family.i will have to go to another brand after this one completely dies.

The consumer has been experiencing problems withautomatic transmission.automatic transmission went out.the manufacturer has yet to be contacted.

Transmission failure.

My wife was driving my 1996 plymouth grand voyager and the left cv shaft support bearing broke off the differential.

While driving down the highway car started to lose power, and then completely cut off.

While drivingtransmission stopped operating, and the vehicle started coasting. Dealer has vehicle now.

Whenweather is cold transmission will not go into gear.vehicle wouldn't go forwardor backward.dealership mechanic toldconsumer that he had to get a brand new transmission.the internal parts forthe transaxle had failed and was replaced by the dealer.

My transmission ,my starter, air con.,brakes, driver side window, belt, & pulley all have had to have work done on it but now i cant drive my van because of the transmission & i've only had my van since 03/21/2008.

Transmission slipping, could not merge safely into traffic because of slip. Would work o.k. Whole van was cold, then would slip and stay in low gear when van warmed up./a.c. Leaking freon causing inadequate cold air. Dealer replaced rear discharge hose only to have it leak out agian, which tells me they didn't even check it. When the compessor finally gave out and after an estimate of allmost $900.00, i had an independent shop tell me the evaporator was leaking. The dealer agreeded they had some bad evaporators and fixed the whole system for $450.00.

While driving, a loud noise was heard and the vehicle stalled. Vehicle was towed to a transmission repair shop, where the transmission was rebuilt, and two driveline axles were replaced.*mr

Automatic transmission had to be completely rebuilt. It all started with just a small oil leak and turned into a major problem. They told us we were lucky we got it there when we did, or we would have been stranded somewhere on the road.

Transmission failed, would not shift. Mjs

I was stopped at a stop light.upon acceleration there was a loud thump.the transmission exploded sending parts of the transmission through the transmission case.my wife and kids were in the van.someone could have been hurt if the parts exploded upward.i see several similar complaints for this model van on this site.

While driving vehicle at 15 to 20 mph the transmission dropped from vehicle without warning. Also notestiming belt popped outwhile driving. Cause has not been determined.owner is very concerned for safety.

In jan of 2000 i had to take my minivan in to have the transmissionoverhauled.i was still under warranty and the dealer wouldntput a new transmission in, theysaid they couldnt do that.now here it is aug 2001 and 20,000 miles later and here we go again,i need a new transmission, upon contacting the dealer and having the vehicle checked now they want me to pay $2300 to pay for a replacement transmission with a 3 year warranty. This is what i asked them to do at 47,000 but was told they couldnt. Had the replacement been done at 47,000 miles as i had asked i wouldnt be putting any money out of my pocket.your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Without any indication, the vehicle started to buck back and forward. The engine lost power, and did not move more than 10 mph.

The consumer stated that the windshield wipers worked intermittently, and sometimes would not shut off.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told that the problem was due to thepower distribution center of the vehicle which was malfunctioning.to repair vehicle would cost approximately $700.00.the wiper problem would occur at startup, while turning and or while in motion.the transmission would become a problem as well. *sc

Transmission goes into neutral, hesitating then banging into 1st gear.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

While driving at 50 mph vehicle died.consumer was able to start vehicle again and drive it inlowest gear. Therewas no reverse or over gears.consumer took vehicle to a mechanic, and they stated that transmission had been replaced before. Please provide any further information.

Leak of prob transmission fluid out of dip stick opening, determined by dealer to be transmission rod assembly. Had to replace entire transmission.previous steering noise corrected by tsb. For about 6 months now, steering intermittently squeals with slight vibration in steering wheel.dealer cannot duplicate.

Gear shift lever broke off.unable to obtain 'new' replacement part due to 'national back order' due to high demand for replacement steering columns due to metallurgy problems in gearshift composition.

Gear shift becamestuck when he consumershifted gear frompark to drive.als,o it made a loud noise.

Automatic transmission transfer case cracked, two holes, upper and lower of the case, causing a loss of transmission fluid and front end to became unusable while driving.

Able to shift vehicle into gear with engine running and without depressing gas pedal. Also occasions of accelerator pedal sticking.

Shift lever can be changed ormoved into any gear from parkwithout applying brakes and without key in the ignition, which could cause vehicle to roll away.

The converter in the automatic transmission has blown up and almost caused an accident.the manufacterer also installed a piston incorrectly.

Problem: transmission will not shift properly.solution: transmission with torque converter and a transmission output sensor had to be replaced at 76,415 miles at a cost of $2041.35. No warranty consideration was given although the van was only 1415 miles/6 months over the 75000/7year extended warranty. This transmission should not have had to be replaced at 76415 miles. I also have a 1984 fifth avenue, 1998 dodge stratus and a new 2003 dodge ram. If this is the type of consideration given to a long standing chrysler customer or any customer for that matter, i can assure you that i will never purchase another chrysler product and everyone i deal with personally and in business will clearly understand my feelings about chrysler.

My seatbelt has unlatched 2 times, and i wasn't sure why until i heard this information.my concern is my two children who sit in the middle bench which have these gen3 seatbelts.i cannot believe that chrysler or whoever is responsible for this product would even take a chance with people's lives when it is such a simple fix.i guess they would rather million dollar lawsuits.they should be ashamed of themselves.

Front passenger seat belt unlatched when a sudden stop was made throwing a mother of 2 into the dash board- this is a general 3 seat belt.

Chrysler says generation 4 seat belts are not available for my vehicle--even if i pay for the expense--i want to replace my gen3 with gen4.

Drivers side seatbelt "d" ring has 3 fractures, all in different places. One fracture is very large and the other two are of good size. The vehicle has never been involved in a collision and no abnormal stress has been placed upon this componet to cause such fractures. It is reasonably new and was not there as of about 2 months ago. I just discovered it on or about 09-05-01.

The seat belt does not tighten properly, doesn't roll in, the design with children's legs straight out causes their legs to go numb.

I was stopped with my foot on the brake. A truck hit me from the rear and knocked me into the car in front of me. My head hit the steering wheel breaking a small bone in my nose and brusing it and my upper lip and gums. I hit my left inside knee which was bruised and hurt. Xrayed, both mouth and knee and neck. The belt did not restrain me. The seat was thrown to a reclining position and i could not, after i came to my senses, make the lever work to upright the seat. The officer had to get in back seat and push it up with his feet. I have a report with that officer's name on it. The report did not mention this problem. Air bag did not deploy, but may have been the kind of hit it was. The van is totaled. Thanks for any information you can shed on this so no one else has this problem. Thank you, jm.

Second seat seatbelt would not release. Consumer had to get a pair of scissors to cut belts loose from child's neck.

Intergrated css plastic bar failed when tightened and wouldn't release 9-month old child, belt harness pressed against child's chest to the point of choking the child, parent literally had to cut child from css to provide child relief.

Both child integrated seats do not unlock properly.the consumer's child could not be release from the seat because the buckle would not unlatch.

9-month old child in seat; seat belt recoiled & pulled against child's chest; would not release; leaned seat back & belt got tighter; t-bar slid against throat; cut straps & released t-bar pressure & got child out. Straps still locked.took to dealer to release straps.

Child seat was not operating correctly prior to recall 95i004.

The intergrated child seat harness straps will not release and retract in tighter position, making it almost impossible to release the child.

Gen 3 seatbelt button releases without much force.

1. Purchased used 1996 plymouth grand voyager in 2006.2. Over 3 month period in 2006-7, drivers side seat back welds began to break as seat back was adjusted for normal driving. Drivers weight was under 200 lb. Seat not reclined or excessive weight placed on back. All welds finally broke.3. Used nylon strap to hold up seat back until frame could be rewelded. Observation - right front seat had been repaired in similar fashion before vehicle was purchased. This was not revealed at time of sale.potential injury/death if in accident or if seat had failed in critical driving situation.

Lever to adjust seat cut consumer's finger.

Seat back frame broke near hinge bracket; hinge bracket spot weld broken also; failed as driver was entering vehicle in a parking lot, with very little weight on seat back. Evidently the seat back frame was progressively cracking for awhile prior to incident. Parts were saved and are available for inspection.

The bench seat release levers failed.

Recall 96v099000/685.brake fluid leakage, every day accumulation, abs warning light went on intermittently. Dealer contacted and statedfour brakes needed repairing. In addition, engine piston seal wore out, causing pump motor deterioration. Vehicle does not comply to the recall because of year. Provide further information...

When the brakes are applied there is a vibration in the front end, caused by the warped rotors.

Light came on for the airbags and brakes.then, windshield wipers wouldn't work.dealership is aware of the problem.consumer states that other electrically related components like the windows failed as well, the dealer could not find what was causing the problem.

This van has had many defects, the service tech. Said all the brake componets were going to be damaged and i had only hear the noise for two days.the shoes were damaging the drums and were attached to the drum, and they had to beat on them for at least a hour to get them off, the shoes were had the rivets missing on most of them.they were causing other brake conponets to come loose, this was way to early for back brake shoes to fail and damage all these parts.it could have caused me to have and accident.

Consumer applied pressure to the brake pedalandit went down to the floor. Vehicle stopped without incident. Consumer checked the brakes, and found thatabs brake system was leaking fluid.

Abs light on.broken wire to sensor although brakes still pulsate.a/c is out of cold air every year before summer is over.no leaks can be found.engine dies when turning, idling, or slowing down without any warning.

Left rear valve block assembly failed for anti-lock brake system. One piston blew out, causing consumer not to have any brakes.

Intermittently while driving the absbraking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance and pedal to the floor, which may result in an accident.cause unknown.please provide further details.

Front brake warning light came on. When serviced found the rear drum brakes were grindingmetal to metal at 44369 miles. Took 20 minutes to pry apart. Dealer contacted and repairwork was done by mechanic at owner's expense. Provide further informaiton.

Vehicle was going 45mph through a tunnel when the brake pedal started boucing back and forth while consumer was accelerating.abs light was not illuminated. Before applyingbrakes the abs seem to have disengaged and back to normal. Vehicle has been in 4-5 times regarding the abs.

While drivingwould step onbrake pedal to stop vehicle, butbrakes will not activate on time.had contacted dealer.please provide more information.

Whenever driving at various speeds, during wet or dry weather, the brake pedal goes to floor when applied. The abs light would come on. Abs would kick in on its own at times. Sometimes, abs brakes would fail when light was on. An intermittent problem. Havs been at dealership 10 different times for problem & it has not been repaired.

The contact owns a 1996 plymouth grand voyager.the contact stated that he has experienced computerized antilock brake failure several times.he replaced the computerized antilock brakes three times.recently, in december of 2007, the contact experienced the failure while driving 55 mph on the highway.there was no braking power, but he was able to coast the vehicle off the road.the vehicle has not been repaired.the dealer estimated that the repair would cost $4,000.the current and failure mileages were 78,000.

While trying to apply the abs brakes, the brakes fail to stop vehicle.

Left rear valve block assembly failed for anti-lock brake system. One piston blew out, causing consumer not to have any brakes.

The incident occurred with my wife driving the vehicle.my brother-in-law and 2 daughters, morgan 9 years old and madison, 5 years old, were passengers.they were traveling west on interstate 78 in new jersey just past exit 11 when they smelled a slight unusual odor.at this location on the interstate is a mountain, known as "jugtown mountain." my wife put her foot on the brake to slow down, concerned about the odor and found the brake pedal went to the floorboard.traveling downhill and gaining speed she panicked briefly, but managed to get to the right lane and used the emergency brake and lower gears to slow the vehicle down.as the interstate leveled out she pulled the vehicle over and contacted myself and aaa for towing service.we had the vehicle towed to clinton chrysler jeep dodge in clinton, nj.after inspecting the vehicle the service manager informed me that this happens often to many vehicles.he was very courteous and helpful, but i questioned his response as i thought it was unusual that a catastrophic failure of the vehicles brake system that could have resulted in a life threatening situation was something that occurred "often to many vehicles."he further explained that material can build up in the calipers and heat the brakes up, potentially resulting in brake fluid evaporating. He asked how long it was since my last brake work and i explained to him the two previous routine brake jobs and when the occurred.he stated that more than likely i would have to have brake pads and/or shoes again and they would check the master cylinder. With this being the extent of my knowledge of brakes i asked for a price quote to repair the vehicle.

Noisy abs brakes. Dealer also replaced rear brake drums and master cylinder springs.

Abs, speedometer, odometer, tripmeter failure and vehilce fails to start.

Vehicle hasbeen experiencing problem with windshieldwipers operating intermittently while in the off mode. Also, abs sensor light remained on. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not coveredunder a manufacturer'srecall, and repairs would only be made at consumer's cost.

Extended stopping distance, brake pedal feels normal. Vehicle has not been examined by dealer.

I've been told 'not to worry' by the dealer since i still have brakes.yes, i have conventional brakes remaining, but i also have a noticable decrease in braking ability, especially in 'short stop' conditions.the issue i have with the windshield wipers seems to go hand in hand with this abs problem.the wipers just 'come on' on beautiful, sunny days.i have made all the trips i intend to make to a service department which tells me this isn't covered by warranty. Either there is a true defect or someone does not have the competence to fix the problems.

Noisy abs brakes. Dealer also replaced rear brake drums and master cylinder springs.

Rear brake shoes are not fully contacting the brake drums which makes the brake pedal stiff. Dealer says it's normal.

The engine compartment caught on fire while driving due to the failure of the master cylinder, claim# 113849935nlm

While trying to make a right or left turn the steering wheel would make a loud noise. Also, loss of steering.please provide further information.

Steering wheel locked up while driving, when turning wheel left experienced the failure.

Steering column clockspring failed rendered the driver side airbag and horn non-operational.-safety components failed. This is acommon occurrence for 1996 to 2000 chrysler minivans.please require a safety recall.

Intermittentlysteering wheel sticks. Dealer has inspectedvehicle, and has not been able to duplicate the problem.

Rack gear box assembly failed.

Power steering assist fails when car is operated in rain.problem occurs during turn and belt gets water on it.dealer contacted and i was told that this is a design defect and that nothing is being done by chrysler at this time.without power assist, the steering is very difficult and could easily result in loss of control if the right set of conditions were present.

Martinez.

On 3 occasions the steering stopped working.i had no control over the direction of the vehicle.it lasted approx 2seconds.the dealership says a drip from the air conditioner is causing this and that the service bulletin tells them to add an ac spout, and auto tensioner and a belt (serp.?).this is very dangerous and appears to be in quantities that makes the service people very familiar with this problem.

Serpentine belt tensioner bolt sheared off, resulting in loss of power steering/ engine cooling/ and alternator function.very difficult to repair as to limited engine compartment clearance.

The drive belt appears to be defective.if this is the case, the power steering could go out.occasionally, the power steering has locked up on me. The windshield wipers turn on whenever they want to.several friends said they have the same problem with the plymouth truck, voyagers or with the dodge truck, caravans.

Vehicle experienced failure of power assist steering system at low speed. Have been told that mfg. Has this problem on a "star list" but not currently on recall. Cost of repair/replacement significant. Possibility of catastrophic/fatal accident due to steering failure significant. Not a happy customer. Manufacturers customer service number not helpful in resolving problem of major equipment failure at relatively early point in life of vehicle. I intend to raise a fuss.

When driving in the rain or when going over rain puddlessteering wheel locks up and makes it hard to contol vehicle. Contacteddealer, and dealer did not remedy problem.

Several items:no interior lights fuse is ok, psngr armrest fell off, windshield wipers occasionally cycle on their own.

Driver side sunvisor came loose.

Severly rusted strut tower on my 1996 plymoth grand voyager. After investigating the problem, i have found that numerous complaints have been filed. There was a recall on the 1998 and 2000 grand voyagers with the same exact problem. Estimated repair $4500.00.

Car leaks at drivers side during heavy rains.delaer been unable to correct the problem.the carpet has been replaced.car is now experiencing electrical defects as a result of a) the leak itself, or b) removing and reinstalling the dash on numerous occasions to try and find the leak.i am allso concerned about long term rust as a result of the continuing leaks.the car is not able to be sold now as a result of the leak and continuing problems.

Driver side sliding door failure.

The fuel pump failure (twice) is not only incovenient and expensive the 2nd time(not under warranty), but it also can be dangerous if it occurs at the wrong time, like during passing.the windshield wipers randomly turn-on is more annoying than dangerous.i do know a few more owners in central wisconsin that have the same problem.my sliding door electroniclock problem is a theft issue--the doors can't be locked when the locks malfunction--and both sliding doors malfunctioned during the last year- again not under warranty.

Rusted strut towers on 1996 plymouth grand voyager front strut popped through almost crashedothercomplaint number found on internet probably a lot more 10090457.

Like sed befor on a few other complants i have a 96 plymounth grand voyager se and my strut towers are rusting out at a fast pase and is very un safe to be driving these vans with this problem... Strut tower failur can lead to crash and death if at highway speed buy causing defent roleover this problem shuld be fixed imeadetly by dcx

Front suspension noise when going over dips and bumps in road. Suspected worn or defective front struts. Front struts replaced and front end aligned. Problem was not eliminated. Suspect problem with upper and lower control arms or defective or worn coil springs. Vehicle has never been driven in harsh or abusing road conditions.

I took my 1996 plymouth grand voyager to my mechanic to help me locate a creaking noise in the front of the van.we finally figured out that it was the sway bar.but what we also discovered was the tower mount (that connects the strut to the body frame) was severely rusted.the rest of the body has very little rust.my mechanic contacted several dealerships to find out about a repair kit for this problem, learned that these dealerships are having the same problem with their courtesy vans.because the tower mount is such an integral part of the working of the vehicle, i feel that this is a safety issue.there should be no way that water can get up and stay in the tower mount and cause the mount to rust out.

Right front suspension strut failure at point of attachment to the body due to corrosion.*ph

During some regular maintenance my repair shop noticed that the strut towers in my 1996 plymouth grand voyager were badly deteriorated and the the struts were in danger of pushing through the top of the tower and consequently the hood. This situation would have rendered the vehicle uncontrollable and presented a dangerous situation if i, or my children, was on the highway.if not hidden under the hood i would have noticed it some time ago, long before the warranty expired. Also this kind of structural failure should not occur in a vehicle this young and is indicative of a design fault. Chrysler has issued atsb number 23-044-02 acknowledging this problem and has a repair kit for it. Clearly they are aware of the problem and uninterested in helping people with a design flaw that takes many years to develop. They will not help customers who have bought a defective product unless your agency forces them to address this issue and i urge you to do so.

Air bag light is on, the horn does not work and the speed control is inoperative.there are chrysler service bulletins on the clock spring wiring harness but no recall.this is a safety hazard (no horn, no airbag) and should be addressed by a recall.

1996 plymouth grand voyager se rusted strut tower.went to check my oil level and could not believe how bad the strut towers where rusted i could push down on front fenders and watch the struts push the surrounding metal up so i typed in google search engine 1996 plymouth grand voyager se rusted strut tower and to my surprise a lot of other people have this flaw in there vans to i cant believe i was driving my kids in this van with this problem i think the band aid that chrysler is offering is pathetic this problem should be fixed right and not at consumers cost please push chrysler to take care of there fault on this issue.

I have a "96 grand voyager with 82000 miles.the towers which support the front struts are both grossly rusted and fatigued.when the strut breaks through the tower it is inevitable that the tire will lock up in the wheel well causing loss of steering and vehicle control.i have contacted chrysler regarding this and they say that there is no recall for this defect.

Front struts failed. Mjs

Strut towers are rusting and pose a safety risk of crash and/or rollover when strutseventually break loose from the strut towers.

When the vehicle was inspected, it was found that the right front strut tower was rusted.this could cause severe damage if it fell out.the consumer was told that this was a common problem with this vehicle.the driver's side (left) strut tower was starting to rust per technician. *sc

Failure of front strut towers on a 1996 plymouth grand voyager found upon vehicle inspection (safety issue).no incident occurred and the corrective action to be taken is the replacement of both front strut towers.old part would be available if you request me to keep them.please advise.

96 plymouth voyager van with 80k miles.both strut inside engine compartment are exhibiting major metal fatigue.both strut towers are shearing away from main frame assembly.dealer states that this needs to be repaired or front of van will collapse.this started to occur several years ago but dealer always stated that this was not an issue.in researching the web, i have seen other complaints of metal fatigue on the chrysler strut towers.i can provide visual evidence if desired.would like to have the nhtsa consider this as a potential safety issue.please contact me and i can provide digital pictures of both strut towers shearing through main chassis frame. *nlm

Rust failure of the rt. Front strut tower with misalignment and tire failure.

Front sway bar found broken at bolt on drivers side of van. Also, upper strut bearings may be damaged and need to be replaced. Mechanic was suprised that the local dealer had sway bar in stock, as they usually only stock parts that are routinely replaced or that are know to fail. Mechanic stated that if sway bar had broken free at bolt, it could have punctured the drivers side tire, or caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

There is a problem with the left and right sway bars. *jg

Dealer replaced front rotors at 50,000 miles and againat70,000 miles.the front brake rotors were pitted and the pads were down and the rear brakes were less than 200 miles.the front brake pads and both rotors were replaced, the drums were resurfacedthe wheel cylinders were bad and were replaced per tsb, andboth rear wheel cylinders was also replaced.there was a bad noise in the left front side and the loudest was in the front wheel bearing and the left front wheel bearing was replaced. *scc

Had a complete blowout on right rear in july 2000.because the tire was destroyed, i assumed the blowout was due to road hazard.the tires are not "branded" firestone.the second blowout occurred with 35psi cold pressure (i had checked them before we left on the trip) after 100 miles of driving at 60-70 mph.the van was not loaded, and it was a cool day.the tire developed a shake, thumping noise, then the tread separated.the tread peeled off the casing like an orange peel, tore out the inner fender and gas filler neck. Tread wrapped around the axle and emerg brake cable, causing wheel lock-up and skid.tire stopped on good tread, so did not blow out.i cancelled the 911 call when i found i could unlock the wheel and install the spare tire.contacted firestone, and they said it isn't one covered under the recall.2 tires remain on the vehicle.waiting for insurance adjustment, estimated $1283 increase in insurance over next 3 years due to this claim, and $500 deductable.

Airbag light came on, andcruise control/ horn were not working.consumer replacedcoil spring.dealership will be be notified.consumer states replacement of coil spring was $257.00

While traveling down hill the vehicle gains excessive speed ,andwill shut down .then, vehicle will restart on its own.

Airbag light is on/ horn, and cruise control stopped working. Dealer determined clockspring assembly needed to be replaced.

Apparently this is a common problem.airbag light on, horn and cruise control don't work.dealer charged me almost $350 to fix what it obviously a safety defect, given the number of people who are having this problem.

This van was purchased off lease with 18000 miles and less than 1 year old.after 1 year the vehicle was out of warranty due to mileage (36000).the wipers would go on and off at will.the dealer replaced the battery for $100.00. The failure mode of the wipers going "on" in the off position has been happening every so often for quite a while.this is not a safety issue, just an annoyance.just recently, the wipers have stopped working when we switch them to the "on" position.this is a safety issue - being caught in a heavy rain without wipers is very dangerous.i think you should initiate an investigation and make daimler-chrysler recall these vehicles from 1996. Has there been other complaints for this problem?

Consumer states wipers do not work properly.*jg

Windshield wipers do not park properly, continue to operate when switch is turned off. Wipers come on when left and right turn signals are engaged and will not stop when turned off.

Airbag light on, no horn , no cruise control.wiper on itself sometimes when turning.door lock sometimes doesn't lock.

While driving on the highwaywhileit was raining windshield wipers worked intermittently. Ifmaking a turn or using the turn signalwindshield wipers will come on.contacted dealer, hewasaware of the problem, but vehicle was not under warranty.

Windshield wipers go on at anytime, drivers automatic window doesn't work valve cover gaskets leak, struts were bad had fixed, starter went out, had fixed,, break lights, fixed, air conditioner unit filled ,freon still leaks out, replaced battery, and wipers, complete brakes replaced in front, and now we are told the transmission has to be replaced, we are very dissatisfied with this vehicle , we have always had gm vehicles but seems we made a big mistake with this one ! also please check our vin # does not match up with anything in your system from my buyers guide we are getting the # [xxx], we checked the # on the vehicle also says this #. Please advise us what to do we do not have the estimated price of $2000.00 to have a transmission replaced we were assured by the dealer this vehicle was gone over buy their mechanic & it was in excellent condition. We don't know where to turn ! [xxx],[xxx] bangor, pa [xxx]phone [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Windshield wipers failed during thunderstorm.rear wipers and front washers continued to work.forced to use front washer/wiper mode to travel to safety. Probable cause faulty relay in front wiper, but forced to replace entire body control module.

This van was purchased off lease with 18000 miles and less than 1 year old.after 1 year the vehicle was out of warranty due to mileage (36000).the wipers would go on and off at will.the dealer replaced the battery for $100.00.

Several items:no interior lights fuse is ok, psngr armrest fell off, windshield wipers occasionally cycle on their own.

Consumer states wipers do not work properly.*jg

The drive belt appears to be defective.if this is the case, the power steering could go out.occasionally, the power steering has locked up on me. The windshield wipers turn on whenever they want to.several friends said they have the same problem with the plymouth truck, voyagers or with the dodge truck, caravans.

The transmission and belt tensioner failed, the axle had broken, the horn, wipers, and cruise control failed.the a/c had gone out along with the condenser.there was fluid leakage in the power steering rack & pinion, the vehicle had gone dead. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle the windshield wipers starting going off by themselves while driving the vehicle.we have had the vehicle in 12 times for repair and the problem still exists!on the high setting in heavy rain the wipers tend to intermittently cut out.personal research has discovered that this problem exists in several '96 voyagers.the chrysler "hotline" has loggged the problem several times but has yet to provide a solution.

Air bag light keeps coming on. Would have electrical failure of horn, radio & windshield wipers.problem is intermittent.

Consumer stated windshield wipers worked intermittently. Consumer had some calls with being in an accident because the windshield wipers failed during rainstroms.

*sc

Martinez.
