On this sunday at 12:15 pm my 1997 plymouth breeze caught on fire. It was sitting in the driveway with no one around it. My wife noticed it when the horn started blowing. I was across the street at a neighbors. Flames were shooting out of the front windshield. The dash above the steering wheel, the steering wheel it self and the driver side door area melted and blackened the worse. The fire dept. Was called immediately.

Engine: canshaft oil seal fell out, ruined engine, required rebuilding engine. Chrysler refused to pay. I found a tsb that provides a retainer to keep oil seal from falling out.engine has severe vibration at idle. Can not find cause. Front suspension: loud clunk near drivers footwell, many rattles. Found failed front lower control arm rear bushing.while repairing also found both outer tie rod ends worn and left side inner tie rod end worn. Sway bar link was also worn. No help from chrysler at all.rear wheel bearing loose. Tightened retainer nut to specified 185 ft lbs. Which corrected problem.

Leeking oil, had to replace head gasket at cost of $650, found numerous consumer complaints on website, agree this should be factory recall.auto repair shop replaces numerous gaskets on same model and also agrees should be recalled.
Premature wear ofhead gaskets, causing leakage. Dealer has replacedhead gaskets, butproblem still exists.&
The head gasket failed.
Consumer noticed oil leaking from under vehicle. Technician indicated the head gasket needed to be replaced.when the vehicle was under a year old, the same oil leaked was repaired. *ph
Engine head gasket failed causing an oil leak. Had the same problem with1996 dodge stratus we own. This seems to be a common problem with these vehicles. Repair cost is > $700. This is an obvious manufactuers defect given the number of complaints for this defect and the low number of miles this failure happens at.
Blown head gasket. $900.00 to repair. No satisfaction from the dealer or the manufacturer. I was told this happens to all cars. But i doubt it happens to "all cars" with only 37,000 miles!
The oil is leaking head gasket not working. Huge environmental hazard. Mechanics and dealers say they fix too many.neon engine line needs recall. Too expensive to fix and oil spilling from millions of vehicles.
Vehicle leaking oil. Replaced engine head gasket. Consulted 2 dealers. Both said this is a common problem with this model. Should a recall be initiated?
I have owned this car since 1998 . When i purchased the car it had 28,000 mi. On it. Just when the next 36,000 mi rolled over yhe head gasket blew. Now another 30,000 mi it blew again. Original headgasket failed at around 50,000 miles in 3/98 , plymouth offered to replace 50/50.second headgasket failed around 86,000 miles 12/99 replaced as "goodwill" service; 3/01 vehicle has around 119,500 miles and needs another headgasket replacement. Chrysler nor dealership will replace for free. Will cost $750.00. Good evening,i wanted to obtain more information about the class action suit against chrysler. I have a 97 plymouth breeze that has had a head and a transmission replaced at 2 separate times. The head was replaced because of head gasket and the transmission after if overheated on highway use (5, 2003), got stuck 200+ miles away from home. Finally i sent my last payment last month but to my surprise my transmission is acting up again and the only services i get from the shop is for my to drive to them (200 miles away). Other issues brakes do not last and suspension is on the fritz.. Thank you daniel rodriguez [email protected], fl*la
In march 2000, noted a small leak of coolant from radiator.no warning lights or overheating problems occured which would indicate serious problems.vehicle taken to dealer who informed us of head gasket failure causing coolant to enter transmission and oil to enter cooling system.head gasket replaced along with dealer suggested flushing of transmission and raditor and replacement of necessary belts and hoses.in july 2000 another leak of coolant.dealer advised us of complete radiator failure.both dealers state this failure is not linked to original head gasket problem.radiator and all hoses replaced.
Oil leak from head gasket.
Lower control arm is making a popping sound. Also, headgasket blew.
Head gasket oil leak-this has been known as a common problem for this model-why has a recall not been done when it is so well known? it is very costly and inconvenient to have repaired when it seems to have nothing to do with wear on the vehicle. *nlm

A cracked engine head caused oil to get into water of radiator .
Head gasket was leaking on my 97' plymouth breeze. I know 6 people personally that have the same engine and had the same problem. They have breezes, neons, stratuses and all the 4 cylinders headgasket leak. Chrysler needs to do something about this problem in my opinion. Thanks.
Head gasket failed at low mileage.
My 97 plymouth breeze is leaking oil from the head gasket, this repair is going to cost me $250.chrysler notes they don't have to repair this problem because my car is out of warranty.chrysler knew there was a defective head gasket problem with this car, i was never notified of this problem, which should have been repaired under warranty.i understand parts can go bad, but not with this frequent occurance and chrysler acknowledging a problem.this problem not only could possibly be a safety issue due to car failure on a highway, but it is an environmental issue with motor oil polluting roads and driveways, then being washed into the drains.there should be a mandatory recall based on the amount of oil being leaked into our environment.
While traveling at 30mph head gasketblewout, and oil spilled out. Contacted dealer, and dealer was aware ofproblem, but still did not do anything forconsumer.
Vehicle leaking oil while driving. Vehicle taken to the dealer and they informed consumer of a blown head gasket.*jg

Multiple oil leaks and brake problems. Bought car with 14,000 miles, replaced front brakes and rotors at 19,000 miles, replaced cam seals at 32,000 miles, had new brakes again at 39,000 miles, and now at 49,500 having spark plug seals replaced.all major engine work done at newburgh park motors, newburgh ny.this car has cost me more in maintenance than my crappy 1979 gmc pick-up with a billion miles on it!the dealer just shrugs it off and says this is typical and it is the customer's responsibility.i say shame on chrysler for manufacturing a sub-standard product and not standing behind it!you cowards!!!!! *la
Have had repairs done on electronic module and now the head gasket is leaking oil very badly.
Major oil leak from head gasket, dealer says common problem and wants $579 to repair. Found this is a common problem and chrysler is paying 1/2 cost through some dealers. This should be a recall item!
Head gaskets have blown out and are leaking oil into the engine compartment.also, engine check light keeps coming on.dealer has not seen vehicle.
Wheels sounded like they were going to fall off whenever consumer hit a bump. Engine check light was coming on, and consumer was constantly putting oil in vehicle. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said vehicle was burning oil andmaking a knocking noise.left and right tie rods needed to be replaced.

Oil had gotten into the raditor.
February 2000, 60,000 miles on vehicle. Started leaking oil at about 55,000, kept putting oil in it and fixed the seals.didnt take care of the problem. Took it to dealer that i bought it from, they admitted a problem with the make of car. They wanted $800.00 to fix it.after complaining enough we paid only 300.00.now june of 2001.1 year and 4 months, and 30,000 miles later, it is leaking again. Started three weeks ago, and now it is leaking a lot just like before. I will be calling the dealership in the morning. And i will be throwing a fit till its paid for then im getting rid of the car. There needs to be something done about this. People can't afford dishing out this type of money for something that is cryslers fault that they are hiding behind. Please help.

I noticed a whining noise coming from the front end of my 1997 plymouth breeze from a minimum speed of 25 mph and more.the vehicle experienced a noise in the automatic transmission when shifting into reverse and drive.my breeze only has 40,000 miles on it.i took it to a local transmission shop for further diagnosis and they found that a retaining snap ring had broken loose and caused damage to the transmission (metal contamination, etc.).the cost to remove and reinstall the transmission, diagnosis, replacing the torque converter, and replacing the clutch discs and fluid will cost me about $2100.is this a normal thing to happen on a vehicle with only 40,000 miles?is there any other noted complaints or recalls that would help rectify this happening to other consumers?i believe chrysler should stand behind their products and now they offer a 7 yr/70,000 mile power train warranty, but this doesn't help me as that did not exist back on the 1997 model year.i believe i caught this problem early, but could have caused a lot more damage or even a crash, etc.

*la
There have been ongoing brake problems.when applying brakes at any speed, the pedal will go to the floor, resulting in loss of brakes.this happens intermittently.dealer has replaced the rear brake cylinders 4 times, front and rear rotors twice, and the rear drums twice.*scc

I've been having some problems with my '97 breeze since i bought it in april of 2002. The steering wheel and the door panels shake/vibrate when the car is in gear and stopped at a stop sign. Come to find out there was a bolt missing off of the engine compartment and the others were loose and they got fixed but the car still has the vibration in the steering wheel.

Noise in the front was reported to dealer on april 27, 2000.car was put up on rack, but no defect was found by mechanic at that time.while turning onto main road from side road, tie rod broke.repairing mechanic ( not dealer) noted excessive wearof tie rods, for mileage on vehicle, and replaced both sides.had i been up to speed i could have been involved in a serious accident.dealer of vehicle supposedly did a safety check before we took delivery.
Ongoing problem with tie rod and ball joint failures.dealer had replaced both tie rod and ball joint three times each, andproblem appeared to be reoccurring.dealership denied recall 97v201 stating that all parts were okay, the initial problem was an ongoing front end noise and vibration.seeking help from nhtsa in this matter. Rack and pinion steering gear crunching noise.45.000 milesdue to lengthy research it appears that there are serious defects in the steering system of many daimler chrysler vehicles. After 27 years of experience with 14 vehicles (mostly gm and ford) i have never had as many drivetrain/suspension/steering failures as with this plymouth breeze.the real problem is that chrysler does not take responsibility (financial responsibility) for potentially life threatening defects.they should issue a recall and pay for the parts and labor and then find suppliers who know what they are doing.i consider the breeze unusable at highway speeds, such as anything over 30 mph.for having such a beautiful design this situation is just sad. Please forward this to chrysler as i am in the process of starting a small claims court case.if you can forward this to chrysler please tell them that we just want reliable transportation, not having our lives at stake.you see - if you hit a tree or something solid - all of the evidence against them is gone.wake up consumers - read the vehicle reports before you buy.beauty must be more than skin deep.

Recall 97v201000/lower control arm. Consumer has contacteddealer on several occasions, and was unbale to get an appointment to repair vehicle.seeking nhtsa help in this matter.
Consumer had bought used vehicle on 6-30-98. She then received recall noticefor lower control arm that was issued in 11-97. Chrysler told consumer that dealership was notified of recall on 12-97. Dealership sold used vehicle to consumer without doing recall repairs. Consumer was notified that this was illegal.
Upon arriving home from work i backed the vehicle into my driveway and found the vehicle would not move and the passenger side front tire was rubbing against the undercarriage. Investigation after removing the tire found the outer tie rod ball joint had separated and collapsed.inspection of the part found no apparent lubrication and rust appeared on the ball section.vehicle was towed to my mechanics shop and the part removed and replaced with a new unit.i asked if the drivers side tie rod was also in need of replacement but inspection by my mechanic apparently found the unit to be intact. The removed part was discarded unfortunately but the mechanic indicated he's seen the same failure on other vehicles of the same manufacturer [chrysler corp]

The head gasket of my 1997 plymouth breeze is leaking oil from the head gasket.this is not a new problem and should have been reported earlier.when i first told the dealer about it he told me it would cost @$200.needless to say it has continued and i wondered if there was a recall dealing with this problem.
Engine check light had came on ,andvehicle kept losing power due to a blown head gasket leaking oil. Dealer replaced head gasket twice before. However, engine is losing power again.
The check engine light illuminates, indicating malfunction within the system cause unknown.dealer cannot identify the problem.
While driving on freeway at about 60mph, vehicledecelerated to 20 mph. Consumer feltit was atransmission problem. Also, enginecheck light came on.
Steering locks up due to floor mat grabbing steering column fromfloor base because it is all open. Dealer notifed, andinformed consumer that nothing could be done because of the design of the vehicle.
Head gaskets have blown out and are leaking oil into the engine compartment.also, engine check light keeps coming on.dealer has not seen vehicle.
In cold morning starts when traveling, the rpm reaches very high and the spedometer is not within the same range. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer unable to determine the cause of the problem.rpms are high when first started, after about 2 minutes, the rmps come down.
Cruise control malfunction.
Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration resulting in a vehicle collision.
The cruise control failed, causing down shift and a reduction of gas to the engine.

I have a '97 plymouth breeze. Suddenly, inexplicably, the heater would not work on the lower fan settings--in the middle of one of the coldest weeks this winter! had it checked out, it is the blower motor. It is drawing too much power and overloading the resistor, which it now also needs.i have been scouring the web for reports of this happening to plymouth breezes or dodge stratuses (strasti?) or even the cirrus. I have found about 3 or so. Not enough to be clear evidence of a recurring problem for owners, and the manufacturer has no recall on the parts.my question is, have you had other complaints about this? i did see some stuff about a mildew smell in the car and problems with the defogger not defogging all the way. I believe there is a connection with this and the blower motor issue. My car had the same issues with the defogger but it was not enough to warrant a repair.please let me know what you have, thanksjeff garrett
