My complaint is the fact that companies need to track down any owner of a vehicle that their company makes. My dad purchased this oldsmobile van, it was a used vehicle, he did not realize that there had been recalls for problems with the seat belts, and air bags. I shared a mail box with him, and i got the mail every day, so i know he never received any info on this. In 2010 my dad was involved in a wreck that was not his fault, if you looked at the vehicle it was not even as bad as some you see, but it was his front end that was hit straight on. My dad did not live, he died the next day. The person there on the scene told me that while he was wearing his seat belt it hadn't appeared to have held him, and unsure if the air bag completely inflated.he was the only family i had left, no parents, no grandparents, no siblings, and i can't help but think it could have been avoided, and i could still have him here with me, if he was only notified that there was a problem. I don't want others to go through what i have. The neurosurgeon could not believe the severity of his injuries in comparison to other accidents, his were traumatic, he had a severe brain injury, and crushed chest injuries, which goes right along with the fact that the belt nor bag did not work right, and he felt the full force of the steering wheel.

The contact owned a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. While driving at approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to stop without warning. The contact crashed into a parking block followed by a tree. The air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained a fractured right knee that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unavailable.

Consumer's vehiclewas struck on the left side rear passenger door at 35-40 mph, and neither frontal air bags deployed.manufacturer was notified.

While driving 35 to 40 mphhit another vehicle inside.upon impact, airbags didnot deploy.frontal impact. Consumer contacted dealer.

While traveling easton i-40 at 70 mph, consumer was cut off by another driver.he tapped his brakes to take cruise control off and he lost control, the vehicle rolled over, and none of theairbags deployed.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. The contact stated that the key failed to turn in the ignition. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 126,000.

2001 oldsmobile silhouette experienced problems with the battery and the transmission.*mrwhen the consumer entered his garage he smell an acid odor then his eyes started burning.he then attempted to start the vehicle but it would not start.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician determined that the battery terminal was over torqued when it was originally installed.

The ground wire and battery cables were loose causing the headlights to go out resulting in loss of visibility.nlm

Drivers side seat heating pad malfunctioned by burning its wire, which is a heating component. Occurrence caused a fire inside a seat that have burned a part of heating pad itself (heating pad appears to be made out of flammable material) and some of the seat foam stuffing (again appears to be flammable as well).luckily the fire starved itself out of oxygen. The issue was previously corrected twice under the warranty by the dealership.

Strong smell like plastic burning from front area of vehicle after being driven.personal investigation seems to indicate smell is coming from under hood fuse box.

A/c does not cool.rear a/c does not work at all after 4 attemps to fix.vehicle makes a load noise on cold start.interior and exterior lights dim off and on.

While driving, lights including the dashboard and headlights will dim or completely short out for seconds at a time.this has happened since 2001.the vehicle has been checked by dealer three times.

Leaking intake gasket on 3.4l v6 in olds silouette minivan.

Transmission failure-three times in as many years also electrical problems with rear lights and also intake manifold leaking. Both window switches failed. Passenger front wheel hub had to be replaced.

I was driving home from dinner and my engine coolant overheat light came on and the temperature was registering in the red zone. Immediately stopped car. Opened hood, there was no evidence of smoke. Consulted manual. After 10 minutes restarted car with heater on full blast, temperature was in the middle to low drove the last mile home. Warning light was not on. Had car towed to dealer first thing monday morning. Problem was identified as a blown head gasket. This is not a very old car, 4 years old with 66000 miles. Noticing lots of problems in the gaskets on 2000-2002 year models of the van.

Engine knock on cold start-we have brought our 2001 oldsmobile silhouette in several times complaining of an engine knock on cold start.sometimes the knock will go away in a few minutes, other times it lasts much longer.the most recent visit we were told that gm is aware of the problem, but does not believe this engine knock will cause long term damage.we believe otherwise.we purchased the vehicle knew and began reporting the problem when there was only 20,000 miles on the vehicle.we are continuously told that they are aware of the problem, expect the problem, but do not consider it necessary to fix the problem at this time.

I have had nothing but problems with this van. Brakes prematurely wore out.the tires had to be replaced prematurely as well.the door seals on the car have separated a few times.the tie rods were worn and needed to be replaced.next came the rear head gasket that was prematurely worn and needed to be replaced.the driver's seat (heater) broke and needed to be fixed.the most concerning problem is the head gasket.i did not realize when i purchased the vehicle that there has been an ongoing problem with the head gaskets caused to fail early from the dex cool antifreeze fluid.if i had known this i would have never purchased the vehicle.i am concerned that the engine has been compromised.i am trying to get the warranty extended on the car but i do not know how successful i will be.please note this van is less than 3 years old and only has 37000 miles.

Consumer states that the service engine soon light is on on several occasions.

While proceeding from a stop transmission went out, was unable to move forward.dealership was aware of warning since engine check light came onbefore, however found no problem until transmission failed.transmission had noise and slips while driving, dealer fixed the vehicle but consumer is still experiencing transmission problem.*yd

This oldsmobile silhouette has had so many many problems over the past 3.5 years, i have finally had enough. I noticed an occasional engine "whine" or rattle while driving, but it was so sporadic i wasn't sure if it was really happening. Then last week it seemed as though the heat wasn't working well in the van...the temperature wasn't below freezing, but the heat just wasn't warming up sufficiently. I mentioned this to my husband and he noticed it the next time he put the heat on, too. At the same time he noticed that the engine termperature was fluctuating as he drove and stopped. He thought at that point that it might be the water pump and immediately (yesterday)took the van to a firestone center for repair. Turns out the water pump was fine, but the mechanic diagnosed the problem as the lower intake manifold and said it would be a very pricey repair and that there was probably engine damage because of the failure of the lower intake manifold. The mechanic said that it was an inherant problem with this engine. We had no work done at that point. I contacted my local gm dealer and was told that the problem was not widespread and olds/gm was not doing anything to help the consumer with this repair. The van is now sitting in the driveway, unable to be used because of this mechanical problem.

I have leaky intake valve gaskets on a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette van which has ruined the ehgine.gm will not do anything.i have many friends who have had the same problem.there are thousands on the internet who report the same problem in the 3.4 v6 gm engine.

The consumer is experiencing a problem with the vehicle overheating.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a local repair shop and both confirmed that the problem is a leak in the intake manifold gasket.

A/c does not cool.rear a/c does not work at all after 4 attemps to fix.vehicle makes a load noise on cold start.interior and exterior lights dim off and on.

Air conditioning is inoperative.we have had several problems with our a/c. The first complaint was a loud noise during operation.dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.our second trip to the dealership was regarding a foul odor from the a/c.both of these issues hae technical service bulletins. The most recent trip to the dealership was on7/1/2003.the dealership fixed the foul odor smell, but on 8/25/2003 our a/c stopped functioning.on 3/25/2003 the vehicle had 22,000 miles.on 7/1/2003 the vehicle had 58,400 miles.as of 8/25/3003 our vehicle has 62,300 miles.our vehicle came with the 60,000 warranty.i called the dealership yesterday to request a service visit and asked if the inoperative a/c was going to be covered under warranty and of course i received the "you are out of your warranty period" statement.there are currently two technical service bulletins indicating a problem with the inoperative a/c's for this vehicle.i contacted oldsmobile customer service to assist with having the a/c fixed under warranty.palmen oldsmobile already denied warranty service regardless of technical bulletins and history of problems.palmen oldsmobile will not fix under a goodwill warranty.i believe the a/c system on a new vehicle should last more than 2.5 years.

While driving at speeds of 55mph and over vehicle would start to sway. Hard to maintain when it happened. Would start to slow down. Weather was clear anddry. Been to dealership twice for problem. Mechanic could not locate cause of swaying problem. Contacted manufacturer and was informed to try different dealers. Vehicle never test driven.the a/c blower fan fails to work at low speed due to defective module.the consumer replaced 4 tires to correct the swaying problem but did not correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette.the contact observed that both headlights were dimmer than normal.there was frost covering the lens that made it difficult to see the road.general motors issued case number 71-565553437 and advised him to have the vehicle diagnosed by a dealer.the dealer stated that they had never seen frost on the headlights; however, they would replace them at the contact's expense.the replacement would cost $643.the dealer also stated that they would notify the contact on october 23, 2007.the dealer informed him that the vehicle was too old and they could sell him the parts for $465.the current and failure mileages were 64,000.

While drivingat night headlights shut off without warning, forcing the driver to pull off the road.consumer contacted dealership, and mechanic determined that headlight wiring melted.

Dt*:the contact stated the front indicator lights bulb socket is getting hot that it is smoking and putting out a film that is clouding the inside of the blinder lens, which is supposed to be clear. It is a safety issue.updated on 06/08/2006.

Headlight failure, dimming and flickering of electric system since purchase of vehicle in 2001.the transmission has been slipping since 2003.we have had the vehicle back to dealer about every 3 months for both of these problems but the dealer can not duplicate problem.the transmission continues to slip and the lights continue to flicker.

While driving, lights including the dashboard and headlights will dim or completely short out for seconds at a time.this has happened since 2001.the vehicle has been checked by dealer three times.

The fuel pump loses power due to a faulty electrical distribution block located under the driver's side sliding door.the van is subject to either fail to start, or go dead at any time.it has gone dead on the interstate at 65+ mph

My 2001 olds silhouette van. Back on 08/01/08 experienced the same fuel tank failure as described in recall # 07v349000 for the 2001 chevrolet venture van. After having the tankreplaced i found out about the above recall for the same problem on the chevy van i contacted chevy customer service for repayment of the repair cost. I was informed this morning that since the nhtsa did not include my vehicle in the recall they were not responsible for the repair cost. My question is how can my van go downthe same assembly line as the chevy venture and other vehicles listed in the recall experience the same failure and yet not be included?

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle released a strong fuel odor and the contact noticed sparks coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who located the failure at the fuel tank. The mechanic advised the contact that the muffler did not have a heat shield cover. This caused the failure and sparks, which core a hole in the fuel tank. The fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileage was 150,000.

Consumer states that the dome light would leak especially after coming from car wash.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. The contact stated that while traveling 40 mph, the side sliding door opened independently. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic where it was determined that the unlatch actuator assembly had failed. The contact referenced nhtsa recall campaign id number: 01v067 (latches/locks/linkages), but the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall campaign. The failure and the current mileages were 123,000.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under recall 01v0670000 (latches/locks/linkages: doors: latch). After the repairs were made, the sliding door would not latch and the door would slide open while driving. The contact called the dealer who stated that the repairs were performed once already and would not be done again. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 125,000.

I was told that the recall of my 2001 olds silhouette minivan had been "closed" and the dealer would not repair the power sliding door that we were never informed about in the first place.

The consumer recieved recall notice 01v-264 for the power sliding doors, the dealer was contacted and told the consumer the the parts were on back order, the consumer has waited over two months to have the safety recall repaired. Nlm

08/15/01 the driver side window dropped down al by itself while the vehicle was parked at my house and the alarm beeped 2 or 3 times.on 9/6/01the passenger side sliding door opened all by itself while the vehicle was parked at my house and the alarm beeped 2 or 3 times.

Consumer received recall 01v264, however repairs have not been completed due to parts not being available.

Sliding door on olds silhoulette opened and shut by itself. Child was exiting the vehicle and was almost hit . We are using the door as a manual operation this is going to hurt someone at sometime if not corrected. Both of our doors have acted up.

Passenger side sliding door on our 2001 oldsmobile silhouette stays in locked position. We had a certified olds dealer look at it. They said this was a common problem. They replaced the contacts at 36479 miles. We are still experiencing the same problem at just over 40,000 miles. The door hasn't been able to be used for over a week because it stays locked. I feel this is a safety issue in case we need to leave the vehicle in an emergency.

In september of 2002, the van would not go forward or backward, the van was taken to dealer and they stated that they could not find anything.on december 5th, the van totally quit going forward and backward, it was towed in and the mechanic asked if we had towed anything with the van or did we use it as a "hotrod", that all the gears were stripped.also, upon taking the van back for the recall of the sliding door, we had to take it back twice and the door still does not operate properly.there are times that it won\\'t unlock from the inside and you can open it from the outside.we have been disappointed in the service of dealer in the different times that the van was taken in to get checked out, that is why we chose not to take it to the dealer when the transmission torn up.

The transmission on this vehiclewill not hold on a hill it drifts back when on a uphill and drifts forward when on an downhill and the dealer said that this happens with all gm vehicles.we drove other models of olds and they did the same thing i hope this problem can be fixed it is a nice vehicle but we had to return it we paid for a automatic transmission and it feels like we got a standard.i hope to here from you soon about this.

Transmission failure-three times in as many years also electrical problems with rear lights and also intake manifold leaking. Both window switches failed. Passenger front wheel hub had to be replaced.

Whenever at a light or stop sign on a hill with vehicle running, andconsumer takes foot off brakes to press gas pedal vehicle, it will roll back.consumer feels that vehicle should not roll so far back if it is not in reverse. It's like driving a stick shift.consumer has contacted dealer, and dealer wasnot able to duplicate problem. Nlm

On an incline (while in drive wiht the engine running) my 2001 olds silhouette van will roll backwards when my foot is taken off the brake (as it is transitioning to the gas pedal). If the inclince is steep enough, i actually have to put my left foot on the brake and increase the engine speed to around 900 rpm to prevent the car from rolling backwards when my foot is taken off the brake. The dealer tells me they have received a lot of complaints about this, but that is the way it was designed.

Transmission control module replace due to hard shifting of gears.a few weeks after replacement noticed transmission not shifting into 4th gear.found 4th gear shaft stripped.service tech said replacement shaft gm part 24207289 seemed to have a more hardened metal construction.

While proceeding from a stop transmission went out, was unable to move forward.dealership was aware of warning since engine check light came onbefore, however found no problem until transmission failed.transmission had noise and slips while driving, dealer fixed the vehicle but consumer is still experiencing transmission problem.*yd

Transmission would slip when transmission is cold and starting from a stop. Making it difficult to accelerate, in particular uphill.

Front driver and front passenger seats are not stable and lean while parked and in operation.dealer is aware ofproblem. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

The vehicle defect involves poor visibility from the interior of the vehicle while driving. There is hardly any right rear vision ; reduced vision from the front mirror thru the rear window; reduced vision from the drivers seat to the left rear. The problem is present when changing lanes and backing. The problem is caused by oversized headrests on the middle seats which are captains chairs. The headrests are 9" in height and as wide as the seat. The problem is further exacerbated by the blackened tinted windows. When driving you must continuously rely on your side view morrors as ther is no vision to the right rear. I frequently drive with the right middle seat folded up so as to have vision but this is not possible with a passenger. The headrests also obstruct approx. 20% of your rrear vision when backing as well as when driving. The driver's seat headrest also obstructs vision when backing as there is no left field of vision caused by the headrests. The problem can be reduced with smaller headrests or replacing the captains chairs with a bench seat. I have had numerous close calls when changing lanes and backing the vehicle. You simply can't see. This is probably a common complaint with gm mini vans with capt chairs middle seating. In addition the tinted windows are too dark and could be a lighter shade for nightime driving.

Drivers seat had caught on fire underneath the seat when two wires had a short circuit.fire was only under the seat, it did not spread any where else.

Abs and traction controlstopped working and right front bearing defective.wheel would have fallen off and braking was very hard.would have caused an accident, injury, and/or death if continued to be driven before repair. Rightfront wheel hub bearing w/ abs sensor had to be replaced.then again in december, 2006 and now may, 2009.

Third time into shop for low brake fluid warning light.previously replaced wheel bearing and a sensor.

Since april 2004 intermittently, while driving without any warning the vehicle suddenlyaccelerated on its own, the consumer pressed the brake pedal to stop but nothing happened. The dealership replaced the cable accelerator, computer module and the sensor. Please provide further.

Low brake fluid light appeared on dashboard, brake pedal went all the way down to the floor.dealership was aware of problem.

Left front rotors and pads are wearing excessively, causes grinding and vibrationwhen brakes are applied. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.

Left brake excessive wear, rotors below specproblem with calipers - defective.

Dt*: the contact stated while navigating a turn at 45 mph, the steering wheel started turning freely without warning.the vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the steering shaft and driver air bag coil.

This complaint is for a defect in a 2001 oldsmobile-siloutte van.as i was drivingon a main highway at 55mph(cruise set) the van went out of control and almost rolled.the van swerved also in oncoming traffic. I managed to get it under control but was a very scary ordeal! i had the van towed to my car dealer and found out a sensor attached to the motor (approx 2ft long) came loose and got caught in the serpetine belt.the car dealer repair department re-attached this part where it belonged. Luck- there was no on-coming traffic!!

Rubbing sound inside steering column when steerring wheel is turned. Dealer claims to have lubed the column but noise is still present. Vehicle has 50000 miles i am concerned of premature steering failure.

Ive owned the vehicle for about 2 years now.friday june 1 2018 i was driving with all 4 of my children in the vehicle and my driver rear sliding door fell off the vehicle completly . All 3 latches that attach the door to the vehicle detached and the door went to the floor. Were were moving state i was going about 15 mph

Power doors are intermittently locking up by themselves, dealer and manfucturer were notified. Consumer stated the problem has been checked 4 times and the dealer states that it is the consumers fault, the dealer reccomended to disconnect the lock mechanism.

Power sliding doorsfail to remain open and will close with force unexpectedly. Dealership stated that vehiclewas not affected by any recall, and can perform no service.please provide any additional information / attachments.

Consumer states that the door opens while in motion, consumer received recall notice #01059 for passenger side power sliding door.

The contact owns a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette. The contact stated that both front hubswere replaced. One year later, the front driver's side hub assembly failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 160,000 and the current mileage was 170,000.

Lower control arm bushings on both sides are worn/not functioning. The vehicle only has 50k miles and under 4 years old. The vehicle has not suffered any accidents, nor has it been abused.

Third time into shop for low brake fluid warning light.previously replaced wheel bearing and a sensor.

Low brake fluid light comes on.1st repair replaced wheel bearing(!),second repair - sensor.third repair master cyl.4th repair 2 calipers, 2 wheel cyl, 4 hoses (all rubber)mech reports rubber seems "attacked"

Transmission failure-three times in as many years also electrical problems with rear lights and also intake manifold leaking. Both window switches failed. Passenger front wheel hub had to be replaced.

Short and sweet, i was in my vehicle, stationary in my yard, not running without the key and i was locked in.it would not let me out.one can imagine many circumstances where this would be death-inducing.(frailer person, no heavy objects to break windows, middle of nowhere, no cell phone, etc, etc, etc.)

Experience engine power surge while backing out of parking space. Foot was on brake, transmission in reverse and engine surged. Firm application of brake failed to completely stop vehicle, had to shift gear to neutral. Dealer evaluation 3/13/03 revealed no problem. Similar occurrence while spouse driving 01/14/03 resulting in broken air dam from parking curb.

The accelerator was applied to enter the garage.after removing pressure from the accelerator it continued to accelerate..the brakes failed to stop the car and it hit an interior storage area.no injuries resulted.

Tires "deflate" daily due to poorly manufactured rims.tires won't seal and hold air. This has been occurring since i have owned the vehicle (6 years).numerous sets of new tires have been installed with the same results.

All four tires were leaking air and deflating. This was caused by corrosion on the inside of the chrome wheel.the flawed plating on the wheels had white oxide on areas where the chrome had spalled. *scc

2001 olds silhouette premiere model has defective wheels. They deteriorate causing flat tires. Outten olds at rt. 61 hamburg pa. Acknowledges gm has developed a method to correct the problem. However a recall should be made as gm hopes consumers wont have the problem until warranty runs out. Continual flats on my car. Problem for possible accidents, getting stuck in bad urban areas, elderly not able to fix flats on roadway getting hit by passing motorists. Outtens web site www.outtencars.com phone 610-562216. Jack williams tie in pottsville discovered my problem. I went to outten my dealer. They seemed regretful that gm refused to address the wheel problem.*nlm

My daughter owns a 2001 olds silhouette, this past weekend, her front wheel became loose causing the wheel secure points to become oval.upon investigation, found that the wheel studs show metal fatigue and one on each side of the vehicles front were broken off even with the front brake caliper.i asked around to a few mechanics they stated this was unusual.the vehicle now has 4 studs on each of the front wheels securing them to the drive line instead of the required five.has there been any other occurrences similar to this?

Olds 2001 silhouette premiere wheels on my car and apparently many others are forming bubbles and deteriorating causing flat tires. Olds secretively developed a plan to resurface these wheels but for cars even recently out of warranty they won't repair this latent defect. They know it is there they know it is a hazard, and they leave owners exposed.*la
